LOTS OF LETTERS

Mike walked into a post office just before Valentine's day, he couldn't help noticing a middle-aged, balding man standing in a corner sticking "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them.  Then the man got out a bottle of Channel perfume from his pocket and started spraying scent over the envelopes.

By now Mike's curiosity had got the better of him, and so I asked the man why he was sending all those cards.  The man replied, "I'm sending out 500 Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'"

"But why?" asked Mike.

"I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replied.

Dreaming of Gifts

One morning Emma woke up with a start.  Her husband Jim asked what was the matter, she told him, "I just had a dream that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's day. What do you think it means?"

"You'll know tonight," Jim said.

That evening, Jim home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, Emma opened it - only to find a book entitled "The meaning of dreams”.

Good morning everyone..

Wow ,it is melting out ,water dripping off the eaves of the house here. Temp is 30° F . We are off to the city this morning for a CT scan for hubby..neighbour is looking after the girls for us.

Shirley, your post brought back memories to me. When I was 3-4 my Mom and I went to visit my aunt and she had an outhouse. Apparently, I had gone to use it when they heard a terrible scream from me, both of them raced  thinking that I had fallen in only to fine me pointing at a huge spider!!  Latter on when I was married we had an out house, a two seater....great for when you are pregnant and had morning sickness :)

Bubble , love the tree of happiness and the jokes too!! Thank you for the morning smiles.

Jane, hope both your doggies enjoyed their home spa yesterday.

Better shake a leg here..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Amy, at 6:30 am, our temperature is close to yours - 28 degrees F.  Radar does not show any kind of precip for today.

Bubble, I used to cross stitch genealogy samplers and I know I have one close to what you posted this morning.  I no longer do counted cross stitch - arthritis and computing get in the way.

I had the first of PT sessions for my arthritic shoulder with instructions for home practice, which will start today.

Amy, now you too brought back a childhood memory.

I must have been about your age then. The toilet then had a big water tank near the ceiling and there was a chain to pull so as to flush. I would not have reached if I was on the floor, so I used to do it while still sitting. I had not seen there was a huge cockroach on that chain and when I reached to pull, it crawled on my arm.
I too screamed!
My hatred of cockroaches dates from that event.

P.S. Good morning Mary Ann. I also stopped with the counted cross stitch: my eyes are not what they were!

Good morning Everyfriend!  our temp is up to 47º this morning and it's been raining off and on most of yesterday, overnight and will continue today.  I'll be off to Wally World at 10 and then my friend and I are going to dinner at Appleby's this evening.

My outhouse scare was engineered by humans.  It was at my grandparents farm and my older sister and my cousin let me go by myself and then scared me half to death while I was in there in the dark.  But it all turned out OK. The two boy cousins who lived there, saw what happened and they took me back to the barn with them to sleep in the hay loft.  That sure taught me that the only boogy men on the farm were my sister and my cousin.  And I got to do something that Margie never did because on that farm, only boys slept in the barn!

The fur girls loved their spa day at home!  Ashley said she thought they were calmer at home than at the shop and I think so too.  It went well enough that we're doing the same thing next grooming time.

Love the new space Bubble and all the goodies included.  Thank you!

We're waiting for the boinger right now for the doggies pills and then I'll be off and running.  Make today your best ever!

Good morning everyone, Had a great day out with my son and got every thing I wanted ion the stores but wow I was worn out when I got home. Was in bed by 8pm and asleep maybe 5 minutes later. Woke up before 4 am. Now I am ready for a nap. Already up to 46° and raining.

SHIRLEY  wonder ig I like the thorns more than the roses. Cacti fascinate me with all the thorns and the beautiful flowers they have. The Saguaro cactus is amazing how old they can get and how tall they can grow.

JUNE  triple E is a very wide foot and that is what my older son wears.

BUBBLE  love your new graphic.

This is it for now, cannot keep my eyes open. Have a good day.

Bubble, our old church was built in 1900 and had a toilet like you described.  Fortunately I did not reach out to a cockroach.  I don't recall using it often and I was short so I wonder if I was able to reach the cord.  Maybe ours was longer than yours.  My "bugaboo" is revolving doors.  When I was about three, my dad and I were in a store downtown and I think it was a Walgreen store but when I was in my section a man got in the next one and pushed the door and I fell down in the door.  I remember my dad picking me up and holding me and the man was very apologetic; he had not noticed me.  If given a choice, even today, I choose anything other than a revolving door.  I can use the revolving door, I'd just as soon not.

Jane, I never lived in a house with an outhouse, but two of our neighbors had them.  When I played with the girls in one of the houses, I used their outhouse if necessary.  When they wanted to put a bathroom in their basement, the city said 'no' so the people said, 'ok, we'll keep the outhouse'; the city relented.  Later the people remodeled their kitchen and extended it so they could add a bath upstairs.

Gloria, I like the cactus blossoms too.  Having been out west and seen them in bloom, I know what you mean.  I also came in contact with a cactus full of thorns and I did not like that!

Lloyd, I think we're going to be cooler today, too, but no snow - fortunately.

Hi Everyone.  We are looking forward to our second 80 degree day in a row.  It is suppose to stay cloudy all day, howver the sun just popped out for a few seconds.  I have nothing planned for today as was pretty busy yesterday morning.  I did get all of the items on my list attended to although wasn't able to get the Columbarium matter settled as the Church office didn't have the needed paperwork.  I got the name and telephone number of the lady who is handling this and called but haven't heard back from her yet.  Today will basically be a day of rest.

Shirley, I have always been thankful for my upbringing on the farm, although I was really glad to get away from it when I graduated from college and struck out on my own.  It made me decide to make my living with my mind and not my back, which I was able to do.  However, it taught me a great work ethic and my parents taught me good values.    Glad you got your car washed.  I remember how dirty our cars used to get on the farm and even in the Kansas City and other areas where they had to use salt and sand for icy and snowy roads.  That is not a problem here where I now live.  My day yesterday was a busy as I want although I certainly didn't do anything requiring much labor.  It was just driving and getting in an out of the car several times.  I was glad to get back home and have a quiet afternoon and evening.  As I told deAngel, I wish I could share the ice cream cake with you all.

Sandy, thanks for the added explanation on the outhouse situation as that makes a lot more sense to me.  Not long ago I drove by a house that had an antique outhouse sitting in the front yard as a decoration.  I thought to myself they must not have lived where they needed to have one.  It was not attractive as a yard ornament.

June, glad your kids got back from Hawaii safely. Nice that you have a good place to walk inside when you can't get outside although your gardens there sound very enticing for walking.

Bubble, is that a picture of something you cross-stitched in the graphic you shared for this week?  I got a chuckle out of the jokes you shared.  Thanks for getting us started anew.  I wonder if anyone likes cockroaches?

Lloyd, I remember when I lived in Missouri as I was growing up and then another stint of 9 years that we always said if you don't like the weather right now just wait as it may change before the day is over.  I hope you enjoy your day as a couch jockey.

Jane, we haven't been to Appleby's since we moved here but ate at one fairly often before we moved from Georgia.  They always had good food.  We also haven't been to an O'Charley's since moving here.

Gloria, nice to see that your shopping trip was a big success and hope you can rest up today.

Amy, you go from extreme cold to thawing weather in a short period of time.  I hope you have a good trip to the city and don't have to wait too long for the CT scan for your hubby.

The only thing that stands out in my memory of outhouses is the trek from the house in a snowstorm. Snow always made its way through the cracks in the door, and if you never had to  scrape snow off the seat before using you missed one of life's most exhilarating experiences.

Bubble, when we lived in England we signed a lease for a year on a house in High Wycombe.... was a "row house" with the front sitting on the sidewalk.  Every few houses was an arch passage into the back.... with a sidewalk along the whole block of houses.  Back yards were special, some people had gorgeous flowers, we had a clothes line that thrilled me..to not have 3 flights of steps to haul wet diapers down.  When we looked at the house we saw it had a fairly large bathroom upstairs and the agent was busy explaining how to open a door in the fireplace to expose pipes that would heat the water for a bath.  We didn't notice until we moved in that the bathroom lacked an important item... a toilet!  They were out back, that little shed that held a copper boiler for doing laundry (all I understood when the agent explained) had a toilet with the pull chain for the "water storage". The "outhouses" were one building for every 2 houses, not insulated or wall board, separate but a common wall between.  You adjust to anything.  ::)

And, Don, even though we put a round kerosene heater out there, it was freezing cold, I have the burns on my leg from that heater being too close!  During the summer months the little girl next door would sing all the nursery rhymes she knew.  One summer we had only 6 days of not having a fire in the fireplace of the room we "lived" in. Bedrooms & bath upstairs didn't have ANY heat.... good training for going camping.  :2funny:

I'm going to bed.  Been a lousy day of trying to get a job done & seems nobody wants to work anymore.  A panel in the fence around the pool broke out last night & I woke up to 2 large feral cats looking in the sliding door at me.  Got to get it fixed soon, only critters that can get through the wrought iron fence around the yard can get near the house, but that pool fence tends to slow down the skunks & raccoons & opossums.  The fox can get through the wrought iron but don't think the coyote can. Cas used to trap the small critters & when he'd take the trap outside into the grass & let them loose we thought it scared them & didn't come back.

I've checked at least half a dozen places/people & none are in any hurry to work.... I knew I'd have to replace those panels this year, they are getting "smoky" (instead of clear) & cracks showing up.  Oklahoma had a 3.8 earthquake early this morning, news said Wichita felt it, & we had a wind change, went from 75° yesterday to barely up to freezing today.  One fence man said we had super strong winds during the night.... could be anything.... but got to replace them.  27 panels at $200. each... and then the labor will be more than the cost of the panels... Wish I hadn't started thinking about it again  :tissue:.... I'm hoping to find a crew to do the work fast or my son will feel he needs to come help. He has been taking care of his grands since their parents have passed that flu back & forth over & over.  They get over one kind & something else hits.  He also teaches 2 Engineering classes at the college, on Fridays... about 200 students so lots of papers to grade. :crazy2:  I worry about him never slowing down & is at that "heart attack age" (58).

Off to bed, sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

I guess I was tired last night.  I not only didn't come by to say Good night, I didn't even stop by to turn off the computer!  But here I am this morning to say a great big....

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND!  I hope you have a lovely day.  We're supposed to have snow beginning around 4 this afternoon.  Yesterday we had temps up into the 60s and today we're supposed to have snow!  Go figure!

I have no plans for today except to spend some time in the kitchen.  I have to make dog food and I got a recipe off the internet for Pizza Mac and Cheese.  I'm going to try it but I think I'm going to cut it in half.  It looks like it makes a lot.  I'm also considering putting half of it in a disposable baking dish for freezing.  I'll let you know how that turns out.  Also might take some time to go to a craft show in town with my neighbor/friend.

I wish you all a lovely day whatever you do to fill it up.  Take it and make it your own!

Good Saturday morning to all the S & F  .

Jane, we are supposed to have the snow starting about 3 p.m. down here.  And, then back to 70º on Tues and Wed.  It sure is crazy weather.  I will be anxious to hear how you like the Pizza Mac and Cheese.   Hope you will get to the craft show with your friend.  The spring craft shows will be starting soon down my way, also.

It is a pretty sunny morning, but still chilly.  I will be turning the thermostat up a little bit and read for a while, after I get something to eat.

I did go down to get my mail from a couple days earlier.  Week ends are very quiet around here.  Although, there was a resident sitting outside smoking.  I didn't really see him until he got up to come in.  He must be new, as I had never seen him before.  People are asked to walk across the driveway to a little grassy area to smoke.

Nothing special going on, except I do want to try to do some laundry later today.  I find if I wait until later in the day,  I can have the laundry room all to myself.  Most everyone usually get to their's early in the morning.  Since I am not a morning person,  later in the day works for me.

Amy, hope your husband gets a good report from his CT scan.  That waiting is always hard .   Been down that road a lot.

I hope everyone will enjoy their week end, and if you are in the "snowy" area,  please try to stay warm and dry and safe.

Joy

Good morning everyone, I am finally awake. I was so worn out from going shopping Thursday that I laid on the couch dozing on and of all day and then was in bed by 8pm. How we do not appreciate what we took for granted till we cannot do it.

MARY ANN  on one visit to my daughter in the spring they took me to the Desert  where the cacti were in bloom, beautiful to see. I was attacked by one and know how it feels.

LARRY yesterday was another day of drizzle and tonight we have snow in the forecast. Sun is shining now.

SHIRLEY  you are amazing with all you do. Wish I had a bit of your energy.

JANE  snow starts tonight here. They make it sound like a lot of it, maybe 4 inches. Do you remember when we would wake in the morning with at least a foot of snow? Younger people these days would be surprised at the snow we used to get.

A ball of clay
Bob Perks

A ball of clay in your hands. Your life.
A single musical note on a staff.  Your part of life's song.
A finger print.  You touched life and it remembers.
A kind word spoken. Eternal echoes you may not hear.
A gesture, an action done out of kindness.  Action reverberates into the
future even in ways you may never know.
To love.  To live fully.
To be loved.  The reward.
To give without expectation. The truest form of giving.
To receive graciously.  The gift you give the giver.
To laugh.  To see light.
To smile.  To share the light.
To forgive.  To be bigger than the hurt, stronger than the transgressor,
more Christ-like than the sinner.
To fall.  To learn.
To rise after every fall.  To win over and over again.
To be thankful and grateful.
To live humbly and fully aware of the bountiful life you have discovered in the ball of clay.

Just checking in to the new Soda Shoppe.   Not much worth commenting on from my little corner of the world.

Central Oklahoma is slowly moving toward Spring.  Weather still "see-sawing" from heavy coats to tee shirts and back again.

Hi Everyone. We started  with another warm morning here and we will be in the low 70's this afternoon.  Yesterday our area got to 84 degrees and we were able to open a couple of windows to let some fresh air into the house for a few hours.

I just got back after making  a fast trip to Costco this morning to get a few items and to fill the car with gas. I was fortunate to be able to getting a riding cart to use so didn't wear myself out anymore than I was already.  The road in front of our development is being closed next Tuesday for a couple of months as a tunnel is built under the road to make our 6 mile Greenway accessible to the people living off of our frontage road.  Right now they have to cross the road and that isn't safe.  It just means we will have to drive a few extra miles to get to the Interstate entrance and from the exit back home.   The work is just a short distance down the road from our development.  We have decided to go to Arby's for lunch (probably our main meal of the day). I have one other chore to get done today and that is to grate up another pound of cheddar cheese.  It is not a difficult job since I have the appliance that does the grating. The main work in cutting up the cheese into pieces that will fit into the chute of the appliance.  Then the rest of the day will be for rest and relaxation.

Don, I could relate to your comments on the outhouse as Missouri often had a lot of snow during the winter.

mycheal, I expect today's youth might consider having to use an outhouse a child abuse.  :)  Although they might think it was fun since they wouldn't have to do it all the time like many of us did as we were growing up.

Shirley, it sounds like your outhouse in England is like todays rest rooms in public facilities.  At least you had a wall between.  Your fence project sounds pretty pricey.  However, that does sound like a priority.

Jane, I very seldom turn off my computers.  There is no consensus on what is best to leave them on or turn them off so it is basically a matter of choice.  Your pizza mac and cheese sounds good.  Pat made up a big batch of goulash in her Instant Pot yesterday and it was good and we have enough in the freezer for two more main meals.

Amy, hope you can have a restful day today.

Joy, doing laundry on a snowy day sounds like something good to do especially if you have the laundry room to yourself.

Gloria, I so agree with you in not appreciating having energy until we end up not having any.

Callie, are you still having a lot of wind there in Oklahoma?  My memory of living in Oklahoma will always be the constant wind.

Larry,  wind farms are popping up all over western Oklahoma to generate electricity.  Sounds as if some of them will eventually supply electricity to electric companies as far away as you are.  Those turbines are HUGE and built to withstand tornadic winds.  Here are some pictures:

Well  the day didn't turn out the way I thought it would . Hubby said lets go to the fabric sale and it didn't take much coaxing for me to get ready.  I managed to help insulate our home again..prices were great and I picked up Kona cotton for 8.00 a metre!! We stopped off for a lovely lunch then headed on home. Roads were bare and dry, on the way down we saw 5 deer but on the way home nothing.
I have my laundry almost done..just one more load to dry and that is it!!

Joy, I think I would rather do a weeks work than wait but I guess we have no choice on this. His oncologist is so nice , we both think the world of her .

Bubble, to this day I do not like spiders..I am fine with snakes and will move them out of harms way but NO to spiders.

Jane, that is a bonus that both furkids like their spa at home.. how was the craft show?

Better go fold up that last load of laundry.

Enjoy your evening everyone..

A good late Saturday evening to EVERYFRIEND.

I DO NOT KNOW WHY but I had a hard time finding you all.  Seem I did something wrong, but I am here now.

Not much new to report.  Our Boston Son and his family flew into Denver this morning. We have kept their car at our house since Thanksgiving, so we had to go and pick them up.  We had a nice lunch together, then they brought us home and headed off to their mountain house in Vail.  I have looked forward to seeing my boys and the time sure did go quickly.  We will not see them again before they return home. 😢

GLORIA, happy to read that you enjoyed your day of shopping with your son and can understand that it takes you some time to recover.  Thank you for sharing the little tidbits you have shared.  They are enjoyable to read.

AMY, sure happy you were able to get more insulation for your home!  I know how much you love your materials.

CALLIE, the wind farms are quite the sight to see.  I have seen semi’s with parts of the wind mills on them and they are huge.   Thanks for sharing the info.

LARRY, the tunnel they are building sounds like it will be worth the inconvenience of the road being closed.  We have a lot of road construction going on here as they attempt to widen the roads that are so over crowded.

JANE, I was happy to read that your doggies did well having their spa treatments at home.  Glad it worked out well and you will try it again next time.

I enjoyed reading all your comments about out houses!  I have had the joy of using many of them over the years and the number one fear for me was ALWAYS spiders!  My fear of them got me in and out as quickly as possible.  The last one I remember using was at PRoe’s cabin.  It was a fancy one for sure.

I guess I had best get this posted as I keep nodding off and I sure do not want to loose this.

I do hope Our June is OK... I notice she has not posted.....

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning everyone, 30°. Started snowing around 8 last night and still coming down. The trees are all dressed in white and look beautiful. Does not look like more than 2 or 3 inches but is deceiving from up here. The Maintenance man was out with his small plow at 4 this morning clearing the walks and the front of the building in case the emergency truck had to come.

JANE  I agree about the see-sawing. A few days ago my daughter said it was close to 80° and now it had been into the upper 30's.

LARRY  when I try to do anything these days it is hard and I get worn out, even doing the few dishes after a meal. Then I think back to how I was on the go from the time I rose in the morning and get into bed at night. How did I ever do that.

AMY  you are like my daughter about spiders. If one happens to get into the house she calls her husband to get rid of it. With me it is snakes, hate even writing that word.

JENNY  glad you like what I have been posting. They are thanks to Joan because I saved quite a few of her stories.

Have a good day.

50/50
Bob Perks

I am not an odds maker.  I know little about mathematics, still I can add, subtract, divide and multiply.  Sometimes without a calculator! In my mind it comes down to this.  It either is or it isn't.  You are or you are not.

When I met my friend, Steffe Berdy, she said to me, "I always thought that life was black and white then God dragged me through the gray." After she died, I decided to permit myself to see in between the things of life.

That being said, I also decided that gray must be a transition.  One either "is" or on the way to it. Another either "isn't" or on the way to it. Thus the "gray."

I knew I had to share this idea with you after seeing the movie "50/50."  I was in the audience for the first showing of the movie in our area. It's about a young man who is told he had cancer and a 50/50 chance of survival. For me, personally, it was a very powerful movie. Memories of my son, Keith's battle with cancer shadowed every scene.

"Sixty-five percent chance of survival.  Better than 50/50. But not ninety-five to one-hundred percent. That's what the doctor said about Keith.  But it's more than a numbers game.  It's my son and sixty-five percent didn't sit well with me." (From my book, "The Flight of a Lifetime!")

In my "either or mind" he either would die or he would live.  What we did in the "gray" would make the difference.

At the end of the movie, I stood up in the theater and shouted, "Time is a precious thing.  Don't waste a moment of it.  If you love someone don't wait...tell them now!"

Then I walked out.

Whatever you are facing right now, today, "is" the way it is.

Whatever you choose to do about it, is the gray, in- transition phase.

If you feel so afraid that you tremble at the thought of what might be, then God is shaking you to get you to do something.

Not making a decision is still a decision.  Not responding to the challenge only leaves you right where you are without any idea of where you are headed.  You are headed somewhere.  The Earth does not sit still.  The world does not wait for you so it takes you right along on a journey where you have given up control of your destiny.

No one stays in the gray.  You are in transition, evolving without effort on your part, but still changing.

Some choose to stay where they are because they worry that something worse will happen.  They almost become comfortable with the pain, the darkness, the ugliness of their situation.

"Why doesn't God rescue me?" they ask.

My God is the God of miracles, still he calls upon us to "do" His will, not to waste away.

Psalm 106:43
"Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin."

God feeds the smallest bird, but he does not throw the seed into the nest.  That's why He gave them wings.

He calls on you to act upon your faith, not dwell upon your woes.

God is an action God.  He wants you to "do" not just think about, ponder for awhile, what could be in your life.

You are either happy or sad.
You are either healthy or ill.
You are either a believer or not.
You cannot be fifty-fifty.

Like those who profess to be believers and then when faced with a challenge, doubt that God is there in their life.

He is waiting for you to walk out of the gray and into the "Light" of what could be.

John 9:36
"Who is he, sir?" the man asked.  "Tell me so that I may believe in him."

He believes in you!

"I believe in you, too!"

Good morning Everyfriend!  I woke up this morning too late to get ready and make it to church.  I decided that was a decision I made last night when I went to bed.  My left shoulder has been hurting for a couple of weeks, not bad enough to stop me but bad enought to keep me from sleeping well.  Last night, I did something I rarely do.  I took a couple of pain killers before I went to bed.  And i slept soundly from just before midnight until 6:45 this morning.  By the time I was up and attem, it was too late to make it to church at 8 a.m.  Maybe it was better because I don't know how the roads are this morning and I'm becoming very timid about driving in bad weather.  The snow stopped around 10 last night and the temps have been well below freezing  ever since.  Am I making excuses?  Or did someone take a hand in my decision this morning?

Go ahead!  Make today special!  I'm going to do just that!

Good morning everyone...

A light dusting of snow out there this morning and a temp of +20° F.....I just may leave that snow right where it is. Everything is so slick on the driveway , maybe the snow will stick to it and not be so slippery. If not I had better sand the driveway like I sanded the path yesterday to bring wood in.

A day of rest here...just going to enjoy it.

Gloria...I too have to get hubby to move a spider. If I get bit by one the area goes red, hard and burns but I won't kill them.

Jane, I would think someone took a hand in your decision...hope your shoulder feels better soon.

Better get dressed to meet the day, slept in again :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

Thankfully there is no snow here but yesterday was cold, wet, dreary and miserable.  Today the sun is shining....YAY!

My daffodils are blooming and I saw some ornamental trees along the Parkway that are covered with blooms.  Spring is just ready to burst!  I'm ready!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it will be a pretty day but will be in the mid-60's this afternoon rather than the 70's and 80's we have been enjoying.  I am up and ready to leave for Sunday School and Church in a little while.  I doubt that Pat will be up to going today.  This will be the first time in 4 weeks I will have attended.  I plan on watching the finals of the PGA Golf Tourney out in California this afternoon.  I did watch it some yesterday afternoon.  Those are my plans for today.  I am still not feeling up to par so that will be plenty.  Pat and I did go out for our lunch yesterday as she hadn't been out of the house for about a week.

Callie, several years ago we were visiting my sister and BIL in Northern Iowa.  They have a lot of wind turbines and the Community College there teaches about them and has one on the ground.  We were ble to go and stand next to it and it is huge.  I don't think they would work very well in this area as we often don't have much wind.  South Carolina is encouraging solar panel and I read an article a couple of days ago that there are grants from the Federal and State governments that will basically pay the full costs of installing them on your home.  If I were younger and had more energy I might check into it but think I will just leave well enough alone.

Amy, really saying the material you buy is insulting your home is a little too much.  I think you are like my wife in not needing an excuse to buy fabric.  Nice you found a bargain on the cotton fabric.  I don't mind spiders but just hate snakes.  I haven't seen one since moving here but did see some over in Georgia.  I understand that there are snakes in our retention pond but fortunately that is on the other side of the street.  Of course, I am seldom out in my yard so they could be there and I wouldn't know it. I hope you can enjoy your day of rest as you certainly deserve it.

Phyllis, we lucked out yesterday and it stayed dry.  Today we have only a 20% chance of rain.  We saw more trees in bloom here yesterday.

Jane, it sound like you were wise to stay home this morning and not risk the roads or having a fall on the snow and ice.  Glad you were able to get a good nights sleep.

Jenny, glad you got to spend a little time with your Boston son and his family.  Are they staying a week in Vail?  Had the boys grown since you saw them last?  The road that is being tunneled is the frontage road for i_20.  When they built it they put the tunnel under it but not the frontage road.  A lot of homes have been built now on the land on the other side of the frontage road so the tunnel is now needed as there is considerable traffic on it.  The month or so will go by quickly and the inconvenience will be worth it.  We usually go out the other way as that is the way to our downtown area.

Gloria, when the trees are all dressed with the fresh snow it is beautiful.  Where we lived in Alaska there was a wire fence beside the driveway of our duplex and many winter morning it was a show of diamonds due to the hoar frost that had accumulated during the night.  I sure understand getting warm out trying to do anything.  Between my heart failure and now the impact of what every I have had these last four weeks I just have no endurance at all and have to push myself to get much done.  I can't even imagine having to work for 8 hours solid plus do a 2 hour commute anymore and I used to think nothing of it.  That Bob Perks piece is another very good one.  I am printing out a copy of it.

Good afternoon, beautiful sunny day, but windy.  The weatherman is not doing a good job so far this year, A dusting a few weeks ago was over 6inches. Yesterday we had warnings about heavy snow storm 6 to 8 in. not much to the west of us, or on the South shore. WE got a dusting and west if us to NY City, got many inches. this coming week is to be like Spring. Could get up to 70 in NYC. I am still afraid of March.

amy, I agree with you about spiders.  One night when my husband was so sick, and on oxygen  in another room. I walked into the bedroom about 10PM, saw Toby our cat looking up into the corner of the ceiling and there was a wolf spider, I started to scream, the size of it was almost as big as my fist.  I did not want to upset my husband, so I kept quite, got a can of spray, shut  the door and started spraying up.  I almost knocked myself out before he fell to the floor. I scooped him up in paper towels, and through him in the toilet. Never did tell my husband, Now when taffy look up at the ceiling, I still get panic.

Lloyd, we did not have any heat up stairs, just a register in the floor. we had a coal stove in the kitchen and dinning room. WE kept bricks in the oven and hour before bed time, I had to wrap my bick in a towel take it upstairs and put it in my bed, so it would be warm when I got into the bed. Had to remember also to bring it back down in the morning.

Gloria, thanks for Bob P, readings, I agree with the one about Math. I can still add, subtract pretty fast, with out help. I know I have slowed down, that's why I have a house keeper, every two week.My first one Jennie, would do the house in two and a half hours, have her lunch here and go across the street and clean. After her auto accident, she was not able to work, so my neighbor Diana said she would take care of my place. Age does make a difference, as she is nearly 75, and it takes  her 4 hours to do what Jennie did, plus she also did the bath mirror  which Diana has yet to do.  I must admit she does take time to talk more, as she is also my neighbor, so she has to tell me all the gossip.

One of the few times I ever saw a doctor, when I was growing up was when I was bite by a spider on the leg, and it got infected. the other two time, I got bit by a water rat, while wading in the river. Next time I saw the doctor, I had trench mouth, from putting my mouth on the water fountain in school. I was given icecream, so I did not mind.

Jenny glad you got to see your Eastern son, if only for a little while.

Larry, I am not afraid of snakes. Mark had one he keep in a fish tank. When we bought it he told the salesman he wanted a female snake, the man said:" I cannot tell the difference" and Mark said give me the fattest. Would you believe she gave birth to a lot of little ones, but she ate them
Another story when we moved to SC, the first year I was invited to and Easter Egg hunt  at Goose Creek, by the Cooper River. WE were told to watch for ground rattlers. Being from NY, I never thought of looking out for snakes. I was 16 at the time

I think I had better stop I have written a life history.

A good Sunday afternoon to all.

We have been watching the Genesis Open......thought sure my boy Phil was going to pull it out, but once again it was not to be.  I ðŸ'• Lefty!  Taping the Daytona and Olympics.

We are going to dinner at Dr. Dave’s.  We have not spent any time with them since the wedding, as they have so much going on.  Mama and Kate have been downtown since Friday night as Kate has been attending a dance academy at the convention center.  She will be one tired little gal as she has been dancing all day long and it will not end until 4PM.

It has been a beautiful day day, but a storm is coming so we will be cooling down quickly and snow is in the forecast.

MARYANN, happy to read that you and Dot did make it to church and to the Cholesterol Pit.  I can understand your not wanting to have others join you as it is your special time to visit together.

50/50 was appreciated, GLORIA. THANK YOU. I sure wish we would have a visit from Our Joan.  I sent Joe a message awhile back asking for a update, but he did not respond. 😩 I believe he is in Italy right now, so no chance for a update.

LARRY, yes, the family will be in Vail until Friday when they will head back to Boston.  It is a short stay, but that is all the time they can afford with the children being in school. Oh yes, the boys both had grown and are both looking so much more mature.  We have not seen them since Thanksgiving weekend.  They both are doing great in school and seem to have adjusted to their East Coast lifestyle very well.  We are not planning to go to visit them until September, but they will be here in Vail for a month this summer.

Wishing I would see a post from Our June......I do hope she is just busy and not too ill again to get on line.  😢😢

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday EVERYFRIEND.

Hi Jenny, I am finally here, somewhat....here is my story.

" My dear, dear kids,
Gary just called, and informed me he had told you of my latest escapade...or as Gary says, "My attention getter".To start from the onset, I was thirsty, so me and my cart went into the kitchen to get a glass of water, I was drinking it, had a brain lapse, or what I understand in a TIA...like happened when you and Nancy and I were shopping in Hemet, and i collapsed on the sidewalk. Next thing I knew, I was laying on my back, half way from the kitchen to my bathroom floor, with my cart tipped over onto my legs. I pushed my emergency button that I wear at all times. and here were two nurses from downstairs. They are not allowed to move me, and before i knew it my space was filled with Paramedics and nurses with a gurney in the hallway. They found I was rational, and started doing all the usual tests and asking me questions, etc. I said I would like to get off that hard floor, so two paramedics took my hands and whoosh..I was up and sitting on my bed. Then came all the tests..heart, blood, jokes......my choice...and the strictest orders from me that I would NOT go to the hospital. I have been that route and you end up laying on a guerney in the emergency ward for two hours before they find a bed for you...I do not recommend it. So before they left I had to sign a thing that said I refused hospitalization. Now if I were bleeding to death  or unconscious I would have no choice. So I am home where I intend to stay. Nurses from our facility are in and out at all hours, just checking up, giving hugs and happy thoughts…………………………….
Sunday, Feb.18, Third day after my fall and  still feeling shaky and weak and very tired. Staying in, …we'll see how things progress. I do get out and walk the hallways…took books back to the library , so I am operating, but no dancing yet……

They notified my doctor, but she didn't come over.  The female paramedic checked out all my vitals, and did the heart thing with all those things they paste on your chest and back, but no results given..I guess they go to my Dr.So I am more or less diagnosing myself. I have had three TIA's in the past, and they just happen. no warning, I just wake up and find myself prone...no warning at all. So that is my written excuse for being A.W.O.L.

I'm just going to take it slow and easy and let the body settle itself down. And the mind too....my brain is still weary so we rest. Keep well and happy my beloved freinds. I love you much. June :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Sandy....dastardly things is right. No warning...we just wake up on the floor...no warning, we don't even have a chance to get scared. This one is taking a little longer to recover, but it is some years since the last one. and of course at 93 years of age it takes more time to regain what we lost. Thanks for your understanding my friend.

Amy, :thumbup:You are correct. For 93 years this body has listened to me order it around, now it is getting the upper hand, and what devious ways it has to get even. But since there isn't a new body living in my closet somewhere, I have no choice but to let this old one rule. And be thankful.

June, I am happy you are so well taken care of AND had the good sense to push that button.  I'm not sure what happened to me the day I found myself laying on the floor, looking up at the ceiling thinking "I don't remember getting down here".   I had a terrible cough & had been to the Dr the week before, but didn't have enough symptoms of what was to come so think he/they were too busy to work me in again & had me go to an EM clinic a few miles away to let them check to see if I had pneumonia.  I didn't make it clear that I had passed out. After going to the wrong place first, I was too exhausted to go through all their other demands of going to another place to have my head examined.  I just wanted them to listen to my lungs & knew I didn't hurt my head, (they don't "listen" anymore!)  Now I wonder if it could have been a TIA, all I considered was the pneumonia risk.  You do have a great place to be and I am grateful they take such good care of you.  Your happy posts are always welcome (& missed).  God Bless & thank you for checking in.

So happy to see you are back with us, JUNE.  I have to admit that I have been worried because if you are able you always post to let us know you are OK!  As sorry as I am to read what happened to you, I am thankful that you did not hurt yourself in the fall.  Of course you are just going to have to take it easy and let your body decide when it is ready to let you take over again! Hugs and good wishes for you to gain your strength back so you can feel much better very soon.

We enjoyed a fun evening with our kids....now I am off to watch some skating.

Pleasant dreams to all.

The fir girls and I are sitting here waiting for the boinger to let us know it's time for breakfast.  We slept better last night than we have for a while.  Kind of feel rested and ready for the day!

Mornin' Amy!  You kind of sneaked up on me!  We're supposed to have rain later today...beginning around noon and lasting until early evening.  The temps are predicted for the high 30 so I don't think it will freeze...just make mud for the dogs to track in!

I hope you all have a good one!

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting a cloudy day with only a small chance of rain today and a temperature this afternoon of around 75 degrees.  I did go to Sunday School and Church yesterday.  We had only a single Worship Service as probably 100 or more of our congregation were at an annual  weekend family retreat over at a camp ground in Rutledge, Georgia. I spent the afternoon taking a long nap and then watched the last couple hours of the golf tournament, the evening news, and a couple of hours of the Olympics.  It is pretty amazing what some of these ski and snowboard jumper can do in the air with the twists and turn and then land going backwards.  It is a wonder they have survived all of the practices without breaking their necks.  The only thing on the schedule for today is the tech from the Medical Supply company is coming around noon to check out my oxygen concentrator.  This is just a routine visit that will occur every three months as I am not aware there is any problem with the machine.

deAngel, our weather forecasters often experience the same thing as yours. They can anticipate with the information they have but can't control changes that may occur. Like you I don't remember going to the doctor very often.  When I was very young our town had an old doctor and I knew who he was but have no recollection of having been treated by him.  I did have my tonsils out at a fairly young age and almost bleed to death when I got home.  They used ether for the antiseptic and I can still recall that awful experience of the smell of it in my mind.  I do remember getting ice cream when I was able to eat something and that was special as it probably was homemade.  I enjoyed your long posting as I find our experiences in our pasts to be very interesting.

Jenny, Phil has done well in the tournaments this year.  While he hasn't won he has been up there in the prize money this year and he had an opportunity yesterday to win until those last few holes.  I hope you had good time with Dr. Dave and his family last evening.  Sure hope the storm isn't too bad for your area.  As fast as time goes by you will soon be seeing the Vail family on their summer vacation.  Glad the grand boys have adjusted to their new schools.

June, thanks for sharing your message to your son about your recent health experience.  It sure is good read that you came through the TIA without a broken bone from the fall.  Thank goodness for the emergency button that you keep with you at all times.  I am also thankful you live where you do and that you have such good medical care immediately available to you.  There was probably nothing  your doctor could do to treat you from the TIA that the nursing staff can't do.  Keep resting and let your body heal.

Shirley, it sounds like we both had the same type of coughing although I haven't ended up on the floor.  I think after four weeks the cough is pretty well gone and I felt the best yesterday that I have since all of this started. I was also concerned about pneumonia and was checked four time (two of these were from scheduled doctor's appointment).   Do your wear an emergency button?  If you don't please treat yourself well and get one as it is money well spent and they really are not expensive.  My best friend has Humana Advantage plan insurance with Medicare and they have provided him an emergency button that he wear around his neck and he has no monthly charge.  I am sure it would give your family a great sense of relief to know you could summons help wherever you are, even down by the river or while traveling in your motor home.

Amy, I sure hope that flooding stays away from your area.

Jane, glad you had a good nights sleep and woke up feeling rested.

Good morning everyone, finally woke later this morning, just before 6:30. T hat waking up near 4am was getting me into bed at night be tween 8 & 9.Had a lot of snow melting yesterday afternoon, this morning everything is covered with frost. 21° now and Wednesday the weather guessers are saying near 70° on Wednesday. If that happens it would break a record set in the early 1930's.

JANE  when something hurts for a couple of weeks it is time for a break from it. God knew you needed a good sleep and that was needed more that going to church yesterday.

AMY  my daughter will not get close enough to a spider to kill it, she just hollers for Gary, before when he was working she would call one of her sons. She has never been bit by one.

PHYLLIS  hope we do not have anything blooming early here. Every time that happens we get a freeze that kills blossoms and then spring is not beautiful. My son lost his apple crop a few years because of that. I would love seeing things blooming now but will enjoy it more in the right time.

LARRY  my SIL has a few solar panels up and is going to put  more. One of their neighbors used to install them professionally and told him he would help. They also have a windmill to set up, that would be for pumping the water from their well. Every thing takes time. In the little over a year they have moved there they really have not had time to just sit and enjoy. Like you I have a fear of snakes. I will delete an email, shut off the TV just because one is pictured there. Joan would be happy to know that something she posted is still being enjoy ed here in the SS. I have a lot more on my first external drive. If I could get someone to plug it in I would have more of them to post.

JENNY  I wish Joe would understand how much Joan means to all of us and want to know how she is doing.

JUNE  glad to see you this morning but not happy to read what happened to you. Glad you live where you are and get help so fast. Take care of yourself. Just come in and say hello so we know you are OK. Hugs and prayers.

AMY  enjoy the warmer days before we are back in the deep freeze again.

Sometimes I feel...
Bob Perks

Sometimes I feel that the world is too much.  God reminds me that I am a part of His world and He has much to offer.

Sometimes I feel, that as hard as I try I am nowhere near where I wanted to be at this point in my life.  God reminds me that the journey may be long but it will be worth it and I am right where He wants me to be.

Sometimes I feel that there is too much for me to do.  God reminds me that I am not doing it alone.  Take each step wisely and put things in perspective.

Sometimes I feel that there are too many mountains to climb.  God reminds me that He made the mountains so that when we reach the top we are closer to Heaven, we can see where we've been and the beauty of where we are going.

Sometimes I feel that when I am excited about life no one else around me is.  God reminds me that is why He placed me there to bring excitement to those whose lives are weary.

Sometimes I feel like God doesn't hear me.  God reminds me that He does indeed listen and respond.  It is I who blocks out His Voice when I don't like what He is saying.

Sometimes I feel that no one understands me.  God reminds me that He understands and that's all that matters.

Sometimes I feel that the world is closing in on me.  God reminds me that he is there even in the smallest spaces.

Sometimes I feel I am failing,  God reminds me with Him I cannot fail.  Delays and denials are not failures.  There are more choices, better ways to get me to where He wants me to be.

Sometimes I feel at peace.  God reminds me:

Galatians 6:16
New Life Version (NLV)
16 Those who follow this way will have God's peace and loving-kindness. They are the people of God.

Good afternoon, Sunny day, with warm temps.

June, so glad to read your upbeat post.  Sorry to hear about your TIA, but I join everyone else, happy you did not break any bones. I understand you, not wanting to go to the hospital.  Last time, I was in the ER 6 hours, before they found a bed. I also have had 3 TIAs first time I was at work in the hospital.  I could not remember my birth date, when they ask me all the questions, so the doctor sent me HOME for a week. Had to check with her before I could come back to work. Now you take it easy, as others have said, I think you are in a great place, they do look after you.

Larry, at my age, and anyone else living alone should have what I call a panic button.  I have used mine 3 times so far.  My cousin who lives around the corner from me fell on Veterans Day,  When she got up to go to the bathroom during the night. She broke her hip and layed there 12 hours, till someone came to pick her up to go to dinner. She  NOW has the button.

Amy, Happy Family Day. When I was in Iceland Many, Many years ago, they had Family Day on thursday, no TV!

Jane glad you were able to sleep[

Maryann, I woke up during the night and Taffy was sleeping right at my back.   Generally she sleeps on my legs.

I'm pooped!! First thing this morning was start a pot of chicken soup and let it cook on the back of the stove, next make a custard, after vacuuming I washed all the floors. Next was bring some wood to the house and wash both vehicles after lunch I played and played  in my sewing room The quilt  is now done and despite me not liking the border print it worked out perfect.  Going to do nuthin...just plain nuthin, put my feet up and enjoy. Glad I didn't plan my day... :2funny:

AMY, I'm sure glad you didn't plan your day!  If you had planned all that stuff you'd have been tired before you started.  Now for me, I've already done all the "nuthin" I can take!  TLH has been here all day and we've just been goofing off!  All that goofing off is tiring!  But I'm sure glad she still liked to come here!

Too many interruptions here, I did take notes and with all the calls and roofing survey - (we have a leak), I then threw away all my very good and logical notes for each of you.   :D

A meatball soup is simmering and the broth tastes OK - it is my own concoction so there is no one else to blame - Don is used to my experimenting.

Take care everyone.  Don't walk on ice or try to drive on it either.  Goofing off is excellent therapy for peace of mind.

Tisie, when ever something usual happens to my body, I really research the symptoms, as I am ever so curious, and talking to a doctor does not satisfy me. I am only getting his medical opinion. I want to know the symptoms, reasons, results….the whole picture….and and with the computer we can do that. We have the Mayo clinic available plus many other places that are eager to dispense their knowledge.

Jenny, my friend, I surely value your caring, and appreciate you in so many ways. We are so blessed with the deep friendships we form here. Folks that do not have computers are amazed at how we learn to love one another here.

Amy, thank you for caring. You seem to have missed me first this time. I'm not there yet, but inch by inch…..I had a message from our clinic that they have made an appt. for me with my doctor at her clinic this coming Thurs. I didn't want to go, but they contacted my son,and he is for it, so I will do it. I hate being out in the traffic but we have an excellent young man that works for our clinic in transporting patience. My Gary has a dental appt. that day so he is not available.

Janie..stuff happens, and I seem to had an affinity toward TIA's and falling. They just help themselves to us.

Larry, thank you for your concern. We all have something don't we? But the wonderful thing is, we have each other here on this marvelous internet.

Gloria, yes, my Gary found this marvelous place for me, run by the Quakers, and they DO care. It is like family.

Gloria de, no bones broken but some very sore muscles from hitting the floor. I am SO thankful to live here where everyone is so caring. God is so Good.

JUNE, I'm so happy to see that you are feeling "chatty" again and you are right.  People who don't have what we have here simply don't understand.  I think my kids try to understand.  I heard my daughter tell someone,  "she has all these friends who tell her all kinds of things and keep informed about what's going on and what to do in certain circumstances and where to look for stuff.  The share recipes and remedies and information and just plain friendship."  When that person asked where I made all these good friends, my daughter said, "on this really neat website especially for senior citizens."  I kinda think she understands.

CAROL, you are absolutely right!  Goofing off is one of the most important things we can do!  And it is good therapy!

I'm going to bid you all Good Night.  May God's peace be with you through the night.  And may you return to visit us tomorrow!

We are having cooler weather in Ca. now. Our high today was only 58, going down to 38 so I have had my furnace on low today.

I had my supper delivered tonight..didn't feel like visiting. It costs six dollars for delivery and I figure I am giving some young student a part time job as well as enjoying my own peace and quiet. I went down for breakfast this morning, which I rarely do and it was tasty.

Now I am ready for bed and book......an interesting novel..from our Libraries Christian Novels section. A young man in the WW11 serving in the Navy..some fiction, some history. I like it.

So, off I go to get ready for bed and book. Looking forward to being with you, my computer family, again tomorrow. Prayers, Hugs and Love, and God's Peaceful Blessings. June

Good morning everyone...

Well,I tried to stay in bed I was listening to the gentle rain falling but couldn't go back to sleep. I am sure that after Tue Wed a lot of our snow will be gone due to rain.

VON comes today and that is all that is on the agenda. Yesterday hubby had me a bit worried with a BP reading of 78/60 but it did come up to a better reading. I am going to mention that to the VON today.

We hear from June, she had a TIA, now to hear from Lloyd, he usually posts each day but is MIA.

June , a visit with the Dr may find out why the TIA happened and hope to prevent it from happening again.

Gloria, I copied your Bob Perks, it reminded me that no matter what we are never alone.

Gloria de..not all Provinces have Family day, only Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Must be frustrating for others that are trying to do business  with those that have it.

Larry, it is great to see you posting the way you normally do .Can understand you being tired, you have had a lot of sleepless nights and your body needs to catch up!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  The doggies and I are waiting for the boinger for their pill this morning.  In the meantime, I made the bed and got myself ready for work and I still have a few minutes to spare before we have our breakfast.

I think I'm ready for my Cleaning Dynamo this morning.  She'll be here when I get home from work and the house should be about half done by then.  I hope you all have a lovely day today.  Fill it with things you love!

Good morning, Jane and Amy and all the others who follow.

Good seeing the message from June.   June, I do hope that either your son or Dori will be able to accompany you to your doctor's appointment,.   You should have someone to be able to be with you.  Maybe Gary can change his dental appointment.  Or,  maybe one of the nurses could go with you.   Hope you can work something out.  I am not comfortable going to the doctor's alone anymore.   My DIL has been taking me for a while now, and I am so grateful.

It is a partly cloudy morning here, but, supposed to get sunny and temperature's in the low 70's.  But, it will be short-lived.  Lots of rain by the week end.

I am slow moving this morning. I was able to fall back to sleep when I first woke up around 6.   Need to find some breakfast and then read for a little while before I have to get on with my day.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Hi Everyone.  We have a little fog here in our neighborhood and I expect there is a lot more down by the river.  We are predicted to be in the lower 80's for the next 5 days or more.  The tech came and checked out my oxygen concentrator yesterday morning and all was well.  I called and found out that after about 13 months this piece of equipment will become mine and I won't have a monthly co-pay on it as is now the case.  So by the end of the year that medical expense should be over and that is good news.  The calendar is clear for today.  Last evening Pat and I decided we would go down to Pizza Hut for the evening buffet today so don't have to worry about what we will have for dinner.  I just fixed her breakfast of scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, bacon bits and cheddar cheese.  I think I may try to get started on my taxes this morning although still missing one piece of the puzzle that always comes in mid to late March and prevents me from filing earlier.  I had a very good day yesterday and got up this morning feeling good so think what ever it was that put me down is now over.

Gloria, I am already seeing some of the early blooming trees in bloom and some of the grasses greening up a lot.  Like you I worry about another hard freeze and also what impact this will have on the peach and other fruit trees that produce a lot of peaches and other crops.  Last year we have similar weather and then a hard freeze that did a lot of damage.  I remember when you son lost the apple crop.  I agree with you all that it would be good to hear something of Joan's condition.  That is another really good reading from Bob Perks.  I am copying it and putting it in my devotional readings folder.

deAngel, a few years ago my wife's Aunt in Florida went out into her back yard without her panic button after returning from Church where she had been with family.  She fell and broke her hip and spent the night outside on the patio as no one could hear her calling for help.  Now I know they have these panic buttons that are waterproof and can be worn in the shower.  I know I have written about this event before but is a good reminder why always keeping it with you is so important.

Amy, it sounds like you tried to accomplish a week's worth of work in one day.  No wonder you were very tired.  I hope your day today will be much less stressful.  Like Jane said I felt a bit of weariness just contemplating doing all of the things you mentioned in one day. That was really low blood pressure but the diastolic number was good.  I am glad it came back up for him.

Carol, your meatball soup sounds delicious.  We are eating a lot more soup than we used to as it isn't hard to fix and we have found that Costco has delicious soups, a container of which makes a big meal for both of us.  The last we had was tomato bisque and it was delicious and I am not a big tomato  fan.

June, we are fortunate to have a number of reliable sources for medical information available to us on the Internet.  I also like to research on these recognized medical sites.  I know you don't want to go out to see the doctor but it probably is a wise thing. Nice that you can have your meals delivered when you need them.  Aren't libraries a great thing and especially in situations where you can't access an outside library easily if at all. I am starting to read ebooks again, something I had almost stopped doing before I had the cataracts taken off.  Yesterday I discovered that the Wall Street Journal was offering a special deal to receive 2 months of the digital newspaper for $1.  I have always enjoyed reading some of the articles in it but it is just too expensive to subscribe to.

Jane, I think we have to experience the type of friendships we quickly develop here on these senior sites.  It connects us to people who really do care for each other.

Joy, it is good for someone else to be with us when we see the doctor.  Pat and I find it is hard to remember all that we have been told.  Fortunately they now send us home with the diagnosis and any instructions written out and that is helpful.

Lloyd, it sounds like it will be a good day to stay inside and away from any ice.

Good morning everyone, crazy night. Slept 3 hours and woke. Read for a couple hours and finally back to bed. Woke about half hour ago. Wish I could get back to the way I used to sleep till a couple of weeks ago.  Tomorrow God willing I will get to see my little great grandson. My son will pick me up at 10am so I most likely will not be here. My DIL is going to cut my hair while there. She is not a hairdresser but does a better job than some I have been to. There is a retired hairdresser who comes here and I tried her  twice. Charges $20 and takes 5 minutes to cut my hair. Second time I paid more attention. Same towel around everyone under the cape, same comb, scissors and razor without being cleaned between customers. Maybe others  do not care but to me that is unsanitary.

AMY  I get worn out reading all you do every day.

JANE  wonderful how close you and TLH enjoy each others company. How old is she now?

CAROL  you sound like my daughter, experimenting with food. She will follow a new recipe once and after that is they like it she will add or leave something out and change it. Nothing is ever the same twice.

JUNE  I know people who have nothing to do with computers can understand how a group of strangers from all over the world can come together and feel closer than families. Wish I could afford a place like Gary found for you. Glad nothing gets you down for long. You are missed so much when you do not post.

AMY  like you I have missed Lloyd's posts, hope he did not have another accident and is back in the hospital.

LLOYD  about time you posted. You know how we worry about each other here. Glad you are OK.

LARRY  53°here now and tomorrow the weather guessers say we will get to 70°. Sure far from normal here for February. I have nothing growing outside but know what happened to my son's apple trees a few times with this early warm up and then the freeze. I agree, Bob Perks wrote some very thought provoking stories. I have one of those buttons but only works in my apartment, from my insurance. Not much good because I do not stay in my apartment 24/7. I love soup as long as it does not come from cans.

A Father's Prayer
Edgar Albert Guest

Lord, make me tolerant and wise;
Incline my ears to hear him through;
Let him not stand with downcast eyes,
Fearing to trust me and be true.
Instruct me so that I may know
The way my son and I should go.

When he shall err, as once did I,
Or boyhood folly bids him stray,
Let me not into anger fly
And drive the good in him away.
Teach me to win his trust, that he
Shall keep no secret hid from me.

Lord, strengthen me that I may be .
A fit example for my son.
Grant he may never hear or see
A shameful deed that I have done.
However sorely I am tried,
Let me not undermine his pride.

In spite of years and temples gray,
Still let my spirit beat with joy;
Teach me to share in all his play
And be a comrade with my boy.
Wherever we may chance to be,
Let him find happiness with me.

Lord, as his father, now I pray
For manhood's strength and counsel wise;
Let me deal justly, day by day,
In all that fatherhood implies.
To be his father, keep me fit;
Let me not play the hypocrite!

Amy dear,I am well aware of what causes a tia, and there is nothing to be done for them..
A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a brief interruption of blood flow to part of the brain that causes temporary stroke-like symptoms. The risks for TIA are the same as for heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease, and include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and family history.
I have PAD, as well as age. I was a long time smoker,  a good B.P. reading for me is in the mid one hundred fifties. No diabetes, thank God. I have had a great life, enjoyed it to the fullest, Faith is what keeps me cheerful and thankful.

Joy, I try very hard not to tie my "kids" lives into mine. I was a "kid" at one time, took care of my Mom, and then my brother, she had alzheimers, brother had multiple problems…lungs mostly.  We have a young man here that works for Rowntree Gardens and does driving of patients daily as his job. He is paid through them, and then I am charged his expense on my monthly rental bill. I prefer it . My kids do so much for me, I want to  spare them when possible. We are having sun today but still cool….62 for a high.  I am so happy you have a good daughter to rely on, it really means a lot to us to have good "kids".

Larry my computer has taught me so much. I use it daily to investigate everything from religious faiths, to medical things, to correct spelling and meanings, and of course our wonderful friendships. You have generally good weather all year long, right ?

Gloria, I too wish you could have a place that gives so much care to it's clients, and sincere love and care. It is amazing.

A late night check in....

I lost my post last night and was just too tired to try to rewrite it.

Thought I would get in earlier but have been on pins and needles all day.  Mark and Megan were driving the moving truck and her car yesterday from LA to Paso Robles.  They got the household goods unloaded and turned the truck back in.  This morning they drove her car back to LA, finished packing a few things in Marks truck and his trailer, turned in the keys to that house.  Packed her car with their kitty and hit the road again.  Mark just called a few minutes ago and they are at their new home safe and sound.  Now I can take a deep breath and relax.  Mark starts his new position on Saturday and Megan has two job offers and will decide which one will be best for her.

We had quite the snow storm yesterday and into the night.  It really got frigid last night and did not warm up much today at all, so most of the snow remains.  Temps will be way down again tonight then tomorrow we will start to warm up a little.

JANE, I am happy to read you had the express register today at work, making your day a bit easier then to come home to the cleaners arriving to make your home nice and clean for you.  I always love reading about the TLH being there with you and what you two do when you spend time together.  Such a special time to have one on one with our grands.  I enjoyed reading what your daughter said about your friends in the senior group.  Sadly, I think many of our kids really do not comprehend the special friendships we have with other’s here in S & F.

Thank you! GLORIA, for another good read with A Father’s Prayer.  Happy to read you will be going to your sons home tomorrow to be with the family.  Enjoy the baby and good for you getting yoour hair cut by your DIL.  I do not like the thought of the unsanitary ways of the hairdresser there at your place and having to pay $20 for just a quick hair cut.  I understand and too, wish Joe would realize how much we care and feel the need to have updates on how Joan is doing.  😢

JUNE, happy to hear you sounding good and definitely feeling stronger.  Your temps are a bit on the low side so thankfully you have a control the furnace to warm your place up.

Same thing with you, LARRY.....you are sounding so much better and feeling like you are nearly back to yourself after that terrible cold and cough.
I do not know if you have already made a choice regarding a walker for Pat, but I thought I would share with you that I really like the rollator that I have.  It is rather expensive, but I find it allows me to get around very. well and would be a good one for Pat.

I have been watching the Olympics and writing this.....I best post it before I accidentally hit the key that wipes this post out like I did last night.

I hope you all are sleeping well and will get a good night of rest.  Pleasant dreams, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

Good morning Everyfriend!  it's already 40º this morning with a prediction of 71 for later in the day.  There is also rain in the prediction.  I'm really getting tired of the rain but I like the temps.  These are what I call "teaser" days!  I know winter isn't finished with us but it's a nice change from the winter.  I'd prefer 70 and sunny but we can't have it all.

I'll be off to WM this morning again so wish me smiles and short registers.  Yesterday was a good day.  I met up with an old friend and had time to catch up on his family doings.  We agreed that we're going to keep on going until we can't and we're not giving up!

I wish you all a good day!  Make of it whatever you wish!  It's yours!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will get to 80 degrees this afternoon and it is already 68 degrees as I begin my day.  I awoke at 3:30 this morning and just couldn't go back to sleep.  So about 5:30 I got up and showered and dressed for the day.  Other than dinner at Church is evening and Scott and Jennifer coming out afterwards I expect today to be a pretty quiet one.  I did get most of my income information summarized and ready to enter into my on line tax preparation program, which I will probably start on today.  We did go to Pizza Hut last evening and they were very busy so other than to give our son a hug when we came in and when we left there was no time for him to sit and visit with us for a few minutes.

Gloria, sorry to hear you had trouble sleeping and hope your night was better last night.  I hope you have an enjoyable time with the great grandson.  That is something that is missing in our lives as we just don't have much of a relationship with our great grandchildren and didn't have with our granddaughter until she moved here a year ago and we have been able to spend time with her.  The friend she had visiting for a month or more has returned to her home in Kentucky but plans to move down here soon as there are more opportunities for a job here than where she lives in a small town.  I think she has already pretty much adopted us as her surrogate grandparents.  She is only 19 and soon to be 20, but a very industrious person who I think has had a difficult young life from what she told us.  Pat never makes the recipe the same way twice but her dishes made are almost always very good.  Unfortunately her days of doing much cooking are pretty well past as it is just too painful for her to stand for more than a few minutes.  I am trying to help her as much as I can like gathering the ingredients but I am not a cook.  Glad you have the panic button device that at least works in your apartment.  The one we had for Stacey worked like a GPS and was available to her where ever she went and she didn't stay in her apartment but went all over Atlanta.

Jane, always nice to read you had an express register for your shift.  I hope you had a great time with your granddaughter yesterday.

June, I can't help but being inspired when I read your postings.  You accept whatever life has to offer and find a way to find joy in most of it.  I agree with you on trying to limit what we ask of our son although he is willing to help when needed and I am confident he will take good care of his mother when I am no longer in the picture.  I will also use my computer to find the proper spelling especially of medical words or words that my spell checker doesn't have.  Fortunately, I have always been a pretty good speller and can usually think of some alternate words if I can't find the right spelling.  However, I know that none of us would ever criticize each other over misspelled words or the wrong use of grammar.

Jenny, it sounds like Mark and his wife made the move well and things are working out well for them on this move.  Yesterday I had the feeling I am pretty well recovered as was looking for things to do and enjoying the day.  I plan on resuming my normal weekly activities for the rest of the week.

Lloyd, my sister-in-law sent us a picture of the ice on the trees around her apartment yesterday and said the icing was suppose to continue until around 6 pm yesterday.  It sounds like you are getting some normal winter weather with more snow today.  It sounds like another good day to stay inside.

Amy, glad your husbands doctor was not concerned with his blood pressure.  It sounds like you are getting a little better weather although the ice doesn't sound good.  I think most parents will always be interested and concerned about the welfare of their children regardless of the children's age.

good Morning again I am up for the day this time except for a possible nap while watching T V after feeding the cattle. @t 7:14 A M it is 20º cloudy the clouds are rolling from the north east, so must be AMY and JaneS fault. we started yesterday with rain day and night before and continued most of the day yesterday then switched to sleet  so we have a good coat of ice still. don't get mad ladies we still love you. AmY just keep the warmer temp coming this way.
I am sure ready for spring here. I bet if the old cows and horses could talk they are also. but yesterday when i was feeding both cows and horses were running kicking up there heals and cows were some of the butting heads pushing each other around. fun to watch them playing like young kid's.
Have a great day I best get off here and go eat and get out and feed them.

Janie ,our temp is dropping tis 34° F now , giving the water a chance to get away. We went into town and I noticed lots of puddles in peoples yards.
Now we are missing Shirley, did she go a gallivanting again and I missed it?

Hubby said let's go out for lunch and I didn't need much coaxing...over we went to our favour place and he had mushroom soup and we ordered a sandwich to share. These are on homemade bread cut an inch thick with a pile of meat, tomato, lettuce ,shredded cheese and I had onion on my half  even half is more than enough.

Now to go sew... :)

I've been going through stacks of cards from all occasions, about to take a shower... no brainer jobs so time to think.  Back in my mother's era people had "card showers".  Mom loved sending cards and appreciated getting them and was always a happy day when the postman brought a whole stack.  Now we've all missed Joan, we don't know if she is checking in here BUT, if anyone knows how to reach Joan's kids to ask if she would enjoy cards from us.... how about it?  We would need an address to mail to, either to one of her kids to take to where ever she is staying, or to her room.  How about it?  Anyone care to ask IF she'd like that?

I think the chill index has come up to 1 degree, got more freezing rain/sleet or snow heading our way by this afternoon.  I have not checked the actual temp but talked 2 of the cats into going outside while I take a shower & wash my hair.  Poor babies, they really didn't want me to close that door but I can't trust Callie (mama cat) in alone.  I have to close off the basement & all other rooms when she comes in, so I can watch her  She uses the litter box in the garage but not sure she would if I put one in the laundry room by the garage door, and I don't trust her downstairs at all.  Anyway, got a list of jobs to take care of so be back later.  Better hurry or I will have frozen cats.  Tiger is trustworthy & doesn't want to go out, sleeping on the bed behind me.  I will have to close the door to the bathroom because she loves to follow me & sit on the register (so the room gets cold).

Hi, Amy, I'm just bogged down with "details".  The glasses prescription the Dr gave me this week is not what we talked about so after visiting with the lady about glasses, I will have to have another conversation with the doctor.  I'm holding out on taking a 100' tape out to measure the fence with this icy wind, need to start the generator in the RV to make sure it doesn't get "gunked up" and won't start if needed.  Wouldn't start the last time I waited this long, but I was waiting for a warmer day.  Anyway, nothing serious but just all kinds of little things filling my day.  Your soup & sandwich sounds good, one thing I like about Panera, can order the half sandwich or salad & smaller bowl of soup, just right for me.

Panera is great - I have their rewards card - always like the blueberry scones.  We really like Kneaders - it is a larger bakery and has soup, sandwiches, and salads as well - closed on Sunday.  I say, Good for Them.  People need one day off at least.

Amy:  Terrible news on the possibility  of losing your Maple syrup this year.  Denver had a 72* drop in 40 hours and it is good that they do not grow much in that high desert area.  Tough on any landscaping though.  Blood pressure can be so unstable - sometimes you have to take it three times in a row.  Wishing you a calm day without such interesting shocks.

June:  Your living quarters sound just perfect and with great care.

Lloyd:  Don would tell you to get the place sold and retire so you can enjoy life.  Take care.

Shirley:  I worry about you - when you are going out to fix something on the RV and other things.  Do you take your cell phone?  Just mentioning this because I know no one would hear me if I fell and called out and here you are in the country.  Nice idea - the card shower.

Sandy:  Love the picture of your little one - crossing her legs--- so cute.

I think we will watch one more hockey play-off this week.  We can stream it on the computer - yell at the screen to "Pass", and "Shoot" - I mean, the puck.

Good Morning dear hearts, I have been down for today's Bible Study class. We had Jeff today, and he is such a nice young man, and sure makes Bible study easier.
Soon I will be going down for lunch at our small dining room on the first floor.I will start off the menu with a cup of hot chicken soup.

Our temps for the day are 63/43 degrees. My kind of weather. But rain is still so needed.

Carol I could not ask for a finer place to spend the rest of my days. my son made a perfect choice.

Larry, I was always good at spelling too ..my favorite subject in grade school, but I am finding my mind needs more help now, and of course there is always something new to learn in all areas of life.

I need to do some letter replies to good friends. I am ashamed I have neglected this so long. Now I am off to the dining room.

Good evening, been a Spring like day, To day was the warmest Feb. on record.

Jenny, I know just what you mean, about worrying about our children. I always make the trip mentally with them, Then I go in a panic if I do not hear they arrived, when I think they should. My grandson forgets to call till after they are home a few hours. My granddaughter calls right aways.
I started to use a rollator after I came home from the hospital in Sept. I call it my push mobile. I can go shopping and just put things in the basket, then my nephew come along with  the shopping cart and gathers up my collection, I can also stop and rest in and aile that is not busy.

June and Larry I failed spelling all through school. Later they figured I spelt the way I heard  the word., cause of my bad hearing.

jane, hope you got a good cash register to help you through the day.

Amy your sandwich sounded so good. I got lobster bisque while we were grocery shopping today they have a nice hot soup bar in King Kullen

Don, God be with you as you travel my friend, and give Bubble a happy hug from me. I am so grateful for all she does. Enjoy every minute of your time together. June

Gloria de, I can understand how a hearing problem would cause a problem. My hearing is much poorer now, but one on one I'm O.K., in a crowd I do poorly.

It is past supper time, but I am not hungry. I may have a sliced banana on cold cereal. I had an upset stomach after lunch for some reason so a light supper is the way to go. If I don't get back to say goodnight, let me wish you a blessed, peaceful sleep now. Love and Prayers always and forever. June

Seems you ALL had a good day.....we did too.  Sunny all day and beautiful with all the glistening snow on the ground! However it remained COLD all day.

Watching the Olympics....I love watching the coverage but I must say I am getting ready for it to be over!

SHIRLEY, I have asked Joe to give us an update on how Joan is doing, but sadly I have not had any response from him.  Maybe someone else has a better way to contact him to ask for a address where we could send cards. I have sent a few “penguin” things to Joan’s email with no response, and I know Jackie has as well, so I am afraid she is not being active on line. 😩😢

Safe travels tomorrow, Don.  Godspeed.

Have a good night of rest and sweet dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, had a wonderful time at my son's home yesterday. My DIL cut my hair and  she does a good job. Of course I enjoy her and my son's company but the best part was my great grandson. My son told me that when my grandson brought him in the morning he asked for great grandma but I was not there yet. He was my sidekick while I was there. Funny how he remembers me because he does not see me that often. I was worn out when I got home. Don't get away from home that much and I sure know it. I turned the PC on when I got home and it was almost time for Skype and my daughter. After our more than hour chat I got ready for bed and think I was sound asleep by 7:30. I feel like a baby who goes to sleep that early but here I am now wide awake at 3am and having my coffee with my cyber family.

JANE  glad you had the express register for a change.

JUNE  62° here at this time of year feels like a spring day. We were almost up to 70° yesterday and it was wonderful.

JENNY  we sure do worry when our kids are on the road traveling. Glad they arrived at their new home safe and sound. After our brief warm spell the fore casters yesterday said we would be 25 degrees colder today. Except for the piles left by plows all our snow is gone. Those who never came into the SS and read how we care will ever understand how we worry about each other. They probably think we are like a bunch of kids. Some day they will get to be our age and I hope they find a place like S&F. I bought my rollator almost 8 years ago and now more than ever I do rely on it and am so happy I have it.

LLOYD  after the hard work  you have done all your life you deserve to be a couch jockey.

AMY  I would love seeing birds from my windows again. The witch does not want any feeders in the front of the building anymore. Once again I wish my apartment was in the back of the building with trees and birds, wild turkey and an occasional deer walking through, much better that seeing a parking lot.

LARRY  I know how hard it is to stand and prepare and cook food so I understand how Pat feels. At times it is so frustrating to me. I do not care for prepared/frozen meals with all the additives in them. But putting one in the microwave is the only way I can eat some days. I do try and get outside every day to walk around and get fresh air. Some days I can walk more than others and some days I get to the end of the walk and turn around and sit on the porch before I head back up here. I have been thinking of looking into a better button what will go anywhere. What I have is useless as I try to get out of the apartment as much as I can. I would go bonkers if I could not have the freedom to get out. Main reason why I moved here from last apartment at my son's house. Could not do the stairs anymore unless someone was with me.

LLOYD  we seldom get wind from the northeast and when we do it is a storm coming from the Atlantic ocean with strong winds with wither rain when it is warm or show in the winter.

AMY  soup and sandwich is a great meal anytime.

SHIRLEY  I would love to send JOAN some cards. I would trust one of my CNAs to have good taste in getting me some cards. I have had the salad and half sandwich at a Panera a few times. Very tasty.
The lady in the apartment next to me has a son who owns one of them. If I knew hi better I would ask him to bring me a bear claw next time he visits and I will pay him for it. Best ones from there I ever had.

CAROL  my daughter was telling me yesterday that a new bakery was set to open in Kingman and will have a lunch counter too. She is looking forward to it since now getting into town 5 days a week for the radiation treatments they could stop for lunch before the trip home.

DON  I wish you a safe trip to Bubble. Now it is counting the hours, not days or weeks.

GLORIA de  we broke a record for yesterday, too. Was set back in 1930. It was 68° and the weather guessers predicted 70°.

Have a wonderful day.

A Mother's Prayer
(Author Unknown)

"Precious Heavenly Father,

Give me patience when little hands
tug at me with their many demands.

Give me gentle hugging arms
to help protect them from rebellions harm.

Give me wisdom from above
to teach these little ones of Your love.

Give me strength, Your love not to spare
that they may obey and live under Your care.

Give me a spirit . . . quiet and meek
let my words show kindness as I speak.

Give me the ability to teach from the heart
to help my children learn Your Word from the start.

Give me the words You'd have me say
to teach my children how to pray.

Give me time, special moments to share
that they may know, "Mommy really does care."

Give me hands that work willingly
a steadfast example that I may be.

Give me courage to stand in Your might
to teach my little ones to always do right.

Give me boldness to do all these and more
that I may not be ashamed when I stand at Your door.

Thank You Father,

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen."

Good morning everyone...

No rain this morning.. too dark out to see if the puddles of water got away yet. Neighbour is coming over to clean the chimneys this morning for us, both rooves are bare.

I am so trying to get another quilt finished so I can take it with me tomorrow, I should know better than to make me rush but I am going to try. I phoned the cardiologist and she said this is a normal bp for hubby..that if he is feeling alright then all is well.

Shirley, thank you for the heads up on Panera, I noticed we do have one in the city but we have not been there. Know that I know one can get half orders ,we may stop for lunch. I would love to send Joan cards if anyone can get her address please.

Gloria, I hope you get rid of the witch, and I hope when her time comes to live in such a place it is run by someone worse than she is. Got to love KARMA. I too am enjoying your "tidbits: thank you for sharing them.

Don, safe travels and give Bubble a hug for us and thank her for all the help she gives each one of us please..

Gloria de, your soup also sounds delicious!! I also like clam chowder too.

Lloyd, hope you can get your machine fixed before tonight!!That would be scary not being able to breath.

Jane, we have a temp of 34° F this morning so any water is now ice..no fun walking.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  AMY, the temp here right now is 37º and that's OK because we also have your rain.  It's supposed to rain all day and the temp will stay in the high 30s so no freezing....just lots of mud for the dogs to track in!

I have no plans for today except maybe to bake some cookies.  I'm not sure if I'll be picking up Kiran or not.  They just changed her piano lesson to Thursdays.  I have to find out what time it is and if I'm picking her up and her mother will get her here or what's going on.

I think I'll go and get dressed before the boinger goes off to feed the doggies.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting another beautiful day here up into the 80's again as we had yesterday.  I have a pretty busy morning planned as will stop on my way to pick up my friend for coffee at a hardware store and buy a couple of light bulbs that are needed for the light panel in our bathroom.  Then we will go to coffee, stopping by the Fed EX store to send back the back massager that Pat had gotten last month as it doesn't seem to be working correctly.  After coffee I will bring my friend home.  From there I plan on going back downtown to the Church and attend the Wisdom Group.  This will be my first time attending in a month.  Finally on the way home I will stop by Walmart to pick up a grocery order Pat placed on line yesterday.  We did enjoy the dinner at Church last evening as had meat loaf, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, biscuit, salad and a small piece of dessert.  Our granddaughter seemed to be the happiest we have probably seen her since she moved.  Her knee is heeling nicely and she said the PT is helping and she is now experiencing little pain.

Lloyd, my wife's sister sent us a picture of the ice on the trees in Independence, Missouri.  Ice can sure do a lot of damage.  Do your cows have a place where they can get under a shelter?  I would also be concerned if my CPAP machine stopped working.  Neither my wife nor I have any problems like that.

Amy, it is hard to beat any place that serves homemade bread.  I always enjoy going to Panera's restaurants as they always bake their bread and it is so good.  They also have some great pastries.  I also like the Costco French bread but can't buy it often as it comes in a two large loaf package and I just eat too much of it.  I especially like the crusty end pieces.

Shirley, I haven't heard of a card years in many years.  It sounds like you are keeping busy as well.

Carol, I have had the Panera soup in a bread bowl and would eat the soup and get to the good part the bread bowl.  As I recall it also came with another little crusty French roll.  We noticed yesterday evening on the way to the Church that many bushes have started blooming here and more will follow with these days of 80 degree weather.

June, nice to read that you were up to attending the Bible Study class and then go to the dining room for lunch.  While I can spell I do seem to make a lot of typing errors like doubling letters that I don't even realize I am doing.  I am really glad that most programs on the computer use the spell check and underline in red if the word isn't correct.

Don, I hope you have a wonderful trip today and it isn't too tiring.   I expect Bubble is counting the hours until you arrive.

deAngel, we will be getting Pat a rollator soon.  However, she wants to contact the doctor and ask him to order it as our health insurance will help on the cost when ordered by the doctor.  I think it will allow her to get out of the house more often.  I am so concerned that she is going to fall using just the cane and after she is on her feet for a few minutes she needs to sit down to relieve her back. She will need a pretty heavy duty one as she is not a small lady.

Jenny, I think I read the Olympics lasts for 18 days.  Last night they were showing the cross country skiing and I find that really boring.  The racing is a different matter.  Apparently the USA isn't fairing very well in a number of the competitions like the ice skating.

Gloria, it sounds like your being worn out was from happy experiences.  How joyful to hear that your great grandson was asking for you.  I see you were posting very early this morning.  I rested but didn't nap yesterday afternoon and was really ready to go to bed last evening when Scott and Jennifer left around 9 pm.  We sometimes fall back on TV dinners.  We find the Marie Callendar and some of the Stouffer dinner are pretty good.  Right now our freezer doesn't contain any.  From personal experience I don't hesitate to recommend the 5 Star Medical Alert Great Call.  It is available at Walmart for around $50 and there is a reasonable monthly fee and a setup fee but they provide great service and know where you are at all times.   Panera also has a great sticky roll with lots of nuts on it and it is delicious and very large.  I don't think I have had one of the bear claws.

Jane, enjoy your day off and have a cookie or two for me.  :)

Good morning.  I have not checked in here for a couple days.  But, I do read the messages most every morning.

Nice to see all of the regular ones here .

Amy, do hope you get your quilt finished and able to deliver it when you go out,

Lloyd, hope you will have a good day.  Your breathing problem does sound like it was a little scary.

Gloria, I am so glad that you got to visit with your great-grandson.  I know it made you so happy that he remembered you.  I know you were tired, but hope you found it to be a "good tired" feeling.  Nothing is better than being able to be with the little ones around.  I don't get to see any of my "greats" very often.
Two of them live in Connecticut and the others are a little closer, but hard to get together with them.  With parents working, they don't have a lot of extra time.

Larry, your church dinner sounds delicious.  I know Pat will probably feel more secure if she gets a rollator walker.  I am not comfortable with a cane anymore, although, I will use it in the house sometimes.  I am using the rollator that had been my husbands.  I bought a new one with the bigger wheels, thinking it would be easier to get over rough ground, but it isn't. There is a nice neighborhood farmer's market in the summer, held on the Fire Department grounds. But it is on a grassy area and there are so many ruts and bumps that I just can't walk that well over that kind of ground. I was so hoping that the heavier walker would solve the problem, but it didn't.    Plus, it is a lot heavier than the one I use. So, it is sitting in a corner, not being used right now.

Jane,  I can almost smell your good cookies.  We are in for 5 or 6 days of rain.  Yesterday, I did sit out for over an hour and the temperature was almost 80º.  But, after the sun left the area, the wind picked up and it got a little chilly.  Came in then, as it was getting to be lunchtime.

Jenny, I, too, would love to be able to send Joan a card.   Be sure to let us know, if you are able to arrange for a card shower for her. She sure is missed.  Just doesn't seem the same place without her around.

Don, sure wishing you a safe trip and I know how much Bubble is looking forward to your visit.  We all will be anxious to see pictures of some of the neat places where you both are able to get to.  Makes me feel happy that you are well enough to make the trip.  What a blessing for you both.

I think that Sunday will be the end of the Olympics.  Like Jenny said, I am kind of ready for it to be over. There are only a coupe events that I really enjoy.  I love all the ice skating events and did enjoy all those fancy ski jumpers.  Hard to understand how they can end up landing on their ski's after so much acrobatics in the air.

This morning, all the excitement was for the Gold Medal for the women's hockey game win !   That had to be exciting to be there for that.

Sad that Billy Graham has passed away, but he sure lived a wonderful and blessed life.  I really enjoyed listening to his talks.  He is again with his lovely wife, Ruth.  Not sure if there is anyone right now who can measure up to him.  He was a special man.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Had a text from my son.  His high school girls basketball team is in the playoffs and the final game is tonight.  He has a ticket for me to attend and my DIL will pick up Kiran and me in time to go.  How exciting!  Kiran and I will have supper together and then an exciting event to watch together!

I guess I better get at the cookies.  I might need them for a celebration!

Jane:  Wonderful news on the playoff game!  Go girls!  Did you notice the USA girls hockey won the gold?  Amazing

Gloria:  Worn out - it doesn't take much for me to take a ten-minute afternoon nap - that is enough to refresh.  Even talking wears me out these days and that is something I love....

Radioman Don:  Have a wonderful time with Bubble!

Lloyd:  glad you are OK after that nighttime scare.

X-country skiing - that is what I wish that I could do again.  However, it was one of my worst falls years ago - my entire side turned purple.  We can't get the Olympics here - we  get one local channel and do have Amazon Prime so that is a nice for a movie or series.  Otherwise, radio/

Jane:  What kind of doggies do you keep?  We have no fenced yard so that is out of the question now.  All the children have dogs - they know us pretty well and we are glorified dog-sitters.  One house has ducks and chickens as well - have you ever tried to herd the fowl?

CAROL, my doggies are Scotties, one black and one Wheaten.  They are 10 and 12 years old and they are what keeps me moving some days.  I tell them that I think they watch and as soon as my bottom hits a chair, they bark to go out or get their water dishes filled or have dinner or sometimes for nothing at all.  And I don't "keep" the doggies.  They keep me!  As long as I tend to all their needs and don't make them take too many baths, they let me stay here.

I haven't watched any of the Olympics but I saw a photo in the paper of the Hockey team.  I cheered for them!

One batch of cookies is cooling and I don't think I'll make them again.  They are falling apart.  I only hope when they are cooled, they are a bit firmer.  I got the recipe off the internet and they sounded good.  I think I'll go for the Amish sugar cookies next.

LARRY, I always thought of myself as a pretty good speller, too but this keyboard is sure slowing me down.  I think I might have to get a new one.  A lot of the keys are sticking and I suspect that's because Kiran eats and drinks in the office after school.  I cleaned it out recently and it was GUNKY!  There's probably stuff down there that I'm not reaching or that is too sticky to come out.  Oh well!  I have to blame the mistakes on SOMETHING don't I?

Good Morning, Everyfriend,

I read all the posts every day but it isn't often that I have things to visit about that relate to anything the rest of you are doing.

However, Oklahoma City had something happen last night that I usually see mentioned only by Mary Ann about the Great Lakes.
The areas around the two large lakes that supply OKC's water actually had Lake Effect Snow!  Radar showed the line of snow reaching about a mile south of each lake.
Two long-time weather gurus said it was the first time they had ever seen such a thing in Oklahoma.

I was able to get out and about on Monday and went early to my regular hair appointment on Tuesday morning.  Everything was fine when I left for that but, during the 40 minutes I was there, my car was covered with slushy sleet.  Fortunately, the streets hadn't yet gotten slick and I was able to get home o.k.
Then the sleet moved in and I've been house-bound since then and am just fine with that!

There have been six pairs of cardinals at my bird feeders and I saw a rabbit scoot under the holly tree yesterday

Pantry is stocked and I have plenty of e-books to read, recorded t.v. shows to watch, Netflix and-of course- the computer.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

CUL8R when/if I find something to talk about.  :)

Callie, I've stayed in as well.... lots of ice up here but so far the trees are not hanging on to it so not worrying about power going out.  I finally got around to washing my little Encore after that last time of icy streets & all that gunk they put on. They closed my fav car wash so I washed it in my own driveway, I don't plan to get out until the streets are DRY!  Plants & trees thought spring had arrived so not sure how much damage the super cold will harm spring blooms.  Don't think we got a lot of moisture but was welcome.

I'll trade you critters.... have had 2 different cats visit lately but only one this morning, sitting by the back door.  He (I think) looks like my Tommy & has been around for at least several years.  He knows I'm a soft touch, I took out a tray of dry cat food & then tossed over the fence a chicken bone with meat on.  He is probably one that recognizes my whistle when I take food down to the river (nearly every night).  Cold & so desperate for food.... I do think he is "fixed" because these girls are not afraid of him like they were of his father.  He looks just like Big Daddy, guessing the father of Tom & Tiger & probably Tommy Two that I fed this am.  Last I saw of Big Daddy was more than a year ago, old & dragging a back leg, a true feral.  Yes, I even put food out for him that last year.   :crazy2:

Don, maybe you are already giving Bubble a hug so give her another for me, please.  Enjoy & post photos, looks like y'all are always having fun.

Lloyd, I would have been afraid to go back to sleep after a scare like that.  Hope you find the reason & get it fixed.

Janie, sounds like you are in for a fun afternoon & evening.  My favorite cookie is the old fashioned sugar cookie & I've never figured what the bakery in our neighbor hood during WWII put in them different, but they were huge & only cost a penny.  The owner's daughter waited on people most of the time and would announce to anyone in the store, "here comes Sugar Cookie"... 'cause any time I found a penny, it went straight to the bakery.

Carol, when listening to the twins names I finally Googled to see how it was spelled.... sounded like my ancestors that came from France... slightly different spelling but that happens all the time with difficult names.  Mine spelled Lamouret with last syllable sounding like "a"........... My gr-grandmother moved to MO as a baby, (from being born in New Orleans) & married a Smith!!!   ;)   Gr-grand lived with my father's family when he was young & insisted the kids speak to her in French, so Dad learned how the French pronounced their names the right way!  Half the little town was French & other half German, I always thought I was related to all of them between Mom & Dad.

OH, forgot all 3 cats in the kitchen, family room.. better check on them!

A good Thursday HELLO.

I enjoyed reading all of your nice posts today.

JUNE, I hope your day is going well.

Thinking about YOU DON, as you wing your way to your BUBBLE❣️

CAROL, Bob has been researching the HDTV antenna’s available now, as we often remember the expenses involved in having cable in both locations when we had our homes in AZ and CO.  I know I am spoiled, but I do not think I would like to get by with only one channel.  I complain about the high price of cable and the fact that we hardly watch a small percentage of the channels that we have, but they are there if we want them. Of course, realize they make you buy them so you can have the few that you want.  Gurrr.  Has Don checked the antenna’s out?

JANE, yippee you get to be with your girl tonight and go to see your sons team!

SHIRLEY, I love reading about all of your kitties!  You do a wonderful job of caring for all of them.

JOY, I am amazed at the snowboarder AND the ski’ers with the flips etc. and do not know how they keep from breaking their necks...
A couple of the falls I have watched almost did me in!  I do hope we can get something going for Joan, but I am feeling pretty let down right now with out getting just a simple response back from her son.  I feel the bigger wheels on the walkers easier for me to get around, but I understand we all find thing that work out better for us.

GLORIA, what fun getting to be with that little GREAT grandson!  Of course you were ready to drop when you got home, as that is a lot of excitement for you.

LARRY, I, too, find some of the cross country skiiing rather too much, but I am sure impressed at the stamina they have to do it!   I have special interest in watching the down hill skiing as so many of the local Colorado ones are in there that we hear about all the time.   I always like to read about your Wednesday night family night.

AMY, I do hope to can get the quilt done!  I do believe you even put Our Shirley to shame in how you can accomplish SO MUCH in one day.  This is meant to be a complement to both of you....oh and we can not forget to add Jane in there....you all are quite the inspiration!

OK, I must get going....I want to go swim, but the cold temp out there sure do not make me happy to go, but I must!

Have a great day, EVERYFRIEND!

Jenny

Jenny, I don't know all about the antenna channels & HD but I do know I can get in the neighborhood of 50 some channels, all 3 of the local stations plus ION, a movie one, ME, MY, & so on.  My son says we get FOX (but I'm not watching news), the History Channel, PBS... too many to name.  If you want to see what is available in your area check this link & put in your zip code & click "Over The Air"... it is the best TV guide of what is offered because it seems that the stations change channels & we have to "search for channels" automatically now & then.  I am more than pleased to have so many OLD shows & movies there is no way I'd go back to what I had before, even if I had to pay for antenna service!  I bought my antennas, a 2 pac, at Sam's Club...https://m.samsclub.com/ip/mohu-hd-tv-antenna-value-2-pk/prod13400079 (https://m.samsclub.com/ip/mohu-hd-tv-antenna-value-2-pk/prod13400079)  ... they cost more at Walmart & didn't price anywhere else.  I can't tell the difference in reception between the small one & large.  The sales guy at Sam's said one antenna can be connected to multi TVs but since I was doing my own install, I just bought an antenna for each TV & it is on the wall (with push pins provided) above each TV.  If I can do it, anyone can!  I guess I've had them a couple years now, still have my Cox phones & internet (costs less than $60 for both) & had been going to $200 a month..... just think what I have saved.   I don't mind spending money if for something I want to do (like gas for the RV), but resented those cable bills for nothing but news & sales stuff.  You can always just buy one (or the pair) to try in your area, I'd think you should get plenty in the Denver area.  When in St.Louis I was a TV junky all night when parked in my daughter's driveway.  I had to sleep in the RV so the cats could get out in the whole RV for exercise.  When I get out I have to close them in the bedroom.  They are happy campers now.

By the way, I have already admitted defeat when it comes to keeping up with Amy or Janie.  Was working on building up steam & oxygen during the warm days last week, taking my iron & extra trips down to the river, but being lazy since winter returned.  I feel NO SHAME because they can out-do the pink bunny!   :bunny: :dog: :dog4:

Jenny I sent you an e-mail that might be helpful in cards to Joan.

Callie, that certainly was unusual for you to have lake-effect snow.  I don't think I've heard of anyone not by the Great Lakes having it.  Will wonders never cease!

Mary Ann,  I just did a Google search to see if I could find anything about the lake effect snow here.  Apparently,  it's made the national news.
Was hoping I could find a video of the tv station radar that showed two distinct lines going south from each of the lakes. No luck. Weather man said each one was a band about a mile wide.

Callie, we're about 35 miles from Lake Michigan and we get lake effect snow here.  Of course, Lake Michigan is a bit wider than your lakes.  When the lake freezes over as it has done recently, we don't get that kind of snow but we do get snow!  When the lake is open and there is wind and freezing temps, that is when we get the lake effect.  It's kind of fun being different, having something few other areas get.

I'm happy that you could join the crowd!

Went in to see my doctor today at her request. The trip tired me out, as I knew it would. She did an E.K.G. and it was not good. She plans to order some heart medicine whatever that will be. She will be coming here to Rowntree next week for her usual monthly visit, so I will find out more then, I will type up a bunch of questions as they occur to me.

so, I will have a light supper at home, and an early bed and book. Have a good night my dear ones. Hope we have news from Don by then. June

Good morning everyone..

We are off to the city to get the results of the CT scan for hubby, pray all is well please. I think that after this one it will only be once a year for the next 5 years.
Yesterday went well, both chimneys cleaned , there was very little in the shop one and a wee bit in the house one. I usually burn a hot fire in the cook stove, not one that just sits and smolders. After having a visit with tea and treats with our neighbour and his dog I headed to the sewing room . The 3rd quilt top is done so now I can take them to my friend to quilt. Told hubby if I EVER try  doing a quilt in two days to really shake his finger at me.

Shirley, I take power naps and don't run as much as I use to.........can't stay up late.If I over do it on one day I do pay for it the next,I too, have to learn to pace myself. My Dr told me one time to just take things slow.........well that not easy for me but think I had better listen.

June ,I am glad you went to your Dr now this problem can be dealt with  and get you tickity boo, right as rain and feeling up to par.  :smitten:

Larry, in a quilting forum I go to ,we have card showers,if someone is going through a rough time we send cards or we have even set quilt blocks and one lady will put the quilt together and give it to the needed person.

Jane, what a great game to be at!!!Will you be able to go to the next game? Congratulations to the team and your son!!

Callie, glad you got home safe and sound!! Not nice driving in that slush though. Today we are to have freezing rain and hope we are home before it starts.

Better get a move on here...

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY, my prayers are with you every day but will be special today.  I hope there's good news to share when you get back!

JUNE, good for you going to the doc.  Now do as she says and all will be well.

When I left the gym last night, two newspaper guys were talking to my son so I'll have to be sure to see the papers today.  He always surprises me with what he says to the newsies!  He's like my father around us.  He just plain doesn't talk much so it's nice to see what's in that mind of his.

We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies and then the day begins.  I'll be off to Wally World this morning.  Wish me smiles and short lines!  And enjoy your day!

Good Morning Soda shop.
I do not post very often in this place but try to keep up to date with news  of friends. Notice  that news of JOAN is missing so will include last email I had from Joe .....
“Hi June, Mum has (some) good days and (a lot of bad days). She generally stays in bed 24 hours a day and hasn’t been interested in anything except her tv. She does enjoy visits from family and when when she receives cards from anyone. Thanks for checking in”

I followed this up and today received this address from Joe (this would be HIS address) and know JOAN would like to hear from old friends.
Joe Lavelle.......24089 3rd Street, FAIRHOPE. AL  36532.

GLORIA, I followed up past news when I read of people wishing to send cards.
So pleased you enjoyed your day with your G/Grandson.   Keep well and like you often look back to the days of Bis’s Nest.

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for our 7th 80+ day in a row today.  We are enjoying the nice weather although the humidity is fairly high.  We are to stay in the 80's for three more days and then will be in the 70's next week.  Our schedule is fairly light today.  The housekeeper will be here around 10 am and shortly thereafter we will leave for a medical appointment for Pat.  I plan on staying in the car and reading my ebook while she has her appointment.  We then plan on stopping at our new IHOP for our main meal of the day.  Scott and Jennifer have both eaten there and said they had really good meals.

Joy, thanks for your words concerning the rollator.  I don't think there will be an occasion where Pat would be using hers other than where there is pavement.  She certainly wouldn't be walking in our yard as it is very uneven and rough.  Unfortunately they did not prepare the ground very well before putting down the sod. I am a bit concerned about the weight of a rollator as I will be the one lifting it out of and into the car.  I had to change the tennis types on the back to legs of her walker last night and found they go on much easier than they come off.  I was able to find these especially but for walker and school chair legs at a dollar store.  Those ski jumpers and snow boarders must have fallen many times during practice to acquire the ability to flip and turn like they do.  At least the ice skaters wouldn't appear to be in danger of landing on the tops of their heads like the acrobatic moves of the skiers and snowboarders.

Jane, congrats to your son and his team for their win.  Glad you and Kiran were able to be in attendance. It sounds like your dogs have you well trained and are really good for you in keeping you active, not that you probably need much of a push as you always seem to be very busy with your work and other activities. It sounds like it is time for a new keyboard.  While I eat my breakfast and lunch in my office I sit back far enough that I don't get food on the keyboard.  I have and old IBM keyboard that is still going strong.  IT is hard to clean out a keyboard.  Fortunately they are inexpensive.

Carol, I sure with a ten minute nap revived me in the afternoons.  My afternoon rest periods usually will be two hours or more and that sort of ruins the afternoons for doing much of anything else.  I have never been on skis.

Callie, that will surely be a memorable weather event and I wonder if it is happening around other lakes.  Glad you didn't experience bad roads due to the sleet.  It sounds like you are well stocked to ride out the weather until the roads get better.

Shirley, it sounds like the message has gotten out in your neighbor and area that you are an easy mark for the cats to get food.  You have a very kind heart.  My favorite cookie the chocolate chips although I do like sugar cookies.  The truth of the matter is I just like sweets.

Jenny, I agree the cost of cable or satellite TV is outrageous.  We have 250 channels on the Dish but only because Pat likes the Hallmark and some other movie channels that are only available in the 250 channel package.  If it were just me I would be happy to have just the HDTV reception and Netflix and Amazon Prime Video but we will keep what we have as Pat gets a lot of enjoyment out of it.  I am finding that the older I get the less TV I want to watch.  Where do you go to swim?

June, there is some really good heart medicines available now and I hope whatever your doctor prescribes will help you start to feel better.

Amy, it is always an anxious time when we await for medical results from tests and scans.  I did say a little special prayer just now for your husband.  He has certainly been through a lot (as have you just being there to take on the responsibilities and keep everything going:.   It sounds like it is time for some Amy time as you have really been pushing yourself.  Nice of your quilting forum to do the card showers.  What quilting forum do you participate in?  I will share the info with my wife and see if that is one she always follows as know she keeps track of several of them.

Junee, thanks for sharing the contact point for getting a card sent to Joan and the info on how she is doing.  Sure glad she can enjoy TV.   I have put the information in my contact for her and will send her a card and note.

Good morning everyone, from breaking a record for a warm day yesterday it got cold and late afternoon started raining and then some snow. 27° now and the little snow that fell is on the cars, roofs and grass areas. That's New England for you.

LLOYD  I am not at this lemon of a computer much. I get here in the morning  and check email after. Then I get back when it is time to chat with my daughter and check email again. Not much else during the day. I have more problems with this HP lemon that I just cannot enjoy it at all. Must have scared you when that machine stopped working and you couldn't breathe. Hope the VA can fix it or give you a better one.

AMY  it is overcast here this morning and makes me want to go back to bed. I wish the company would wake up and fire that witch. She is supposed to work 8 hours a day but most days she is here about 6 or 7. Nice when you get a 2 hour lunch break.

JANE  yesterday we had brief showers all day and have no idea what today will bring.

LARRY  I agree about the Panera pastry, especially their bear claws and the wonderful almond flavor in them. Had to laugh at you and the crusty ends of that French bread, I am like that with a loaf ot that or the Italian bread we get here. I would buy a  loaf and when I got groceries home I would either cut of pull the end off the loaf and butter it. So yummy. A lady here with a rollator must weigh close to 300 pounds so the do make them for heavy people. Only problem is having to take a rollator with you when you go anywhere. Have to fold it up and put it in the car. I know I cannot do that.

JOY  it was a good tired the other day. Just getting away from here  no matter what it is for I am exhausted when I get home and it takes a couple of days to recuperate. Glad I do not have doctor and dentist appointments too often.

JANE  a day late but I hope your son's team won and you all had an exciting time watching it.

CAROL  I find I have to lay on the couch a few times a day to give my back a rest. Even posting here I have to get away from the PC for a few minutes. Takes me a long time to get through the posts.

CALLIE  I envy you those Cardinals. I so enjoyed watching them at the feeder I had.

SHIRLEY  those cats really know you have a soft spot for all critters.

JENNY  I have asked around to find someone in this area who has cut the cable. I do not watch any of the shopping, sport or foreign language channels but have to pay for them and many others. Mostly I watch local channels and MeTV. Enjoy those old shows. After the morning news I shut the TV off till evening news.

JUNE  great to have a doctor who cares for you. Prayers and hugs for you.

JANE  HIP HIP HOORAY.

AMY  I was one who always did every thing fast either walking or cleaning or what ever but now I slow is all I can do.  Hate it, too.

JUNEE  those days in Bis's  Nest and the Missouri discussion were fun times. I had a fun time Wednesday with my great grandson. Yesterday my son called and tole me that when the sweety woke from his nap he went looking for me and was not happy that I had come home. Nice to know he missed me.

LARRY  they ave little runners that can be put on the legs of the walkers. There was a couple who had them here when I moved here. I have no idea how much my rollator weighs but no one who has taken me in their vehicle seemed to have problem with it. Heck these days I cannot even pick up a half gallon of milk.

A PARENT'S PRAYER

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my sanity to keep.

For if some peace I do not find,
I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.

I pray I find a little quiet,
Far from the daily family riot.

May I lie back and not have to think
About what they're stuffing down the sink,

Or who they're with, or where they're at
And what they're doing to the cat.

I pray for time all to myself
(did something just fall off a shelf?)

To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
(Oh no, another goldfish dead!)

Some silent moments for goodness sake
(Did I just hear a window break?)

And that I need not cook or clean
(oh well, I've got the right to dream)

Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my wits about me keep,

But as I look around I know,
I must have lost them long ago!

Hi Junee, Just yesterday I looked up Joe's address and sent it to Jenny (Denver).  I don't know if she's seen it yet because she doesn't post until later in the day.

As I type here, there is a picture of Norm, Dot and Beverly in my Random Image place.  What a coincidence.  It was 25 years ago today that they were married.  Also, my dad was born 123 years ago tocay.  Dot is doing fine and keeps very busy with her family and church contacts.  She picks me up for church on Sunday, then we go out for breakfast afterward and try to solve the world's problems!

I hope you are well.

Amy, I had two long sleeps after the Drs. visit yesterday. One long one in the afternoon then and early to bed and a hard sleep at night. I think I got up twice for the bathroom, but back in bed without opening my eyes. Today I am feeling "tickety boom" !

I will be going down for lunch soon..I weighed 110 yesterday and the doc said I should be sure to eat three meals a day. My normal weight used to be 138. But at 93 years of age, I don't need to be wasting energy draging along excess fat. I'll start my lunch with Potato an onion soup with bacon crumbles..sounds good to me. See you later, June

My lunch was delectable and I ate every bite of it..still full, so I will have a light supper at home. Came home, lay back down in my recliner, and woke up three hours later. I recall stirring when the medicine girl brought in some vitamins, and right back to dreamland.

The computer told me our high for the day is 62, but it is much colder than that. Strong cold wind from the south-west.

Junee, thank you so much for posting Joe's address.  He is a wonderful son to his mother, so we can be assured our Bis/Joan is getting the very best of care. She has gone through so much illness in the past ... must be what ??three years now ? I know there is a reason for everything, but it sure hurts to have her suffer so long. We know our Lord loves her and is with her at all times, thanks be to God.

Good evening.....another weekend has rolled around again!

MARYANN,  I am happy that you found the address for Joe so that those of us that want to can send a card to Joan and know she will get it.

JUNEE, thank you, also, for seeking out Joe’s address.  I think it will help us all to reach out to Joan to let her know how much we care and miss her being active in this special group.

AMY, I am so happy for you and your husband....this news from the MRI is wonderful and now you both can take a breath knowing that everything is good.

GLORIA, my hubby purchased one of the antennas and we are shocked at how many channels we can pick up on it and they all have a wonderful picture.  We definitely get all of our local channels and METV....so you would be very pleased with it.  The cost $35.00.  It was very easy to install and would probably fit the need of many of us on here.  Thank you for posting THE PARENTS PRAYER.

Thank you, BUBBLE, for the update that Don arrived safely to your loving arms.

LARRY the Highlands Ranch Community where we live, as do Carol and Don, has approximately 97 thousand people living 22 thousand acres.  We have 4 community centers that have various amenities in each.  It cost each household around $50 a month to utilize these facilities.  So we go to the facility that has a therapy pool that we enjoy working out in.  Children are not allowed in this pool unless they are accompanied by a adult and there is no horse play allowed.  This facility has a lazy river as well as a hot tub that we enjoy.  They all have exercise equipment and walking paths, basketball courts.  We feel it is a bargain for all we get.  We, in my immediate community are not required to pay to belong to theses facilities as we have our own pool and rec center, but it is only a outdoor summer swimming pool, so we choose to belong to the other.  It is my understanding that Carols area would be required to belong, but I am not positive.

We had a doozy of a storm roll through here yesterday afternoon....a couple of inches of snow fell in about 45 minutes.  It was a total white out and man car accidents happened.  It took our DIL who arrived in Denver at the airport about the time it started over 4 hours to drive home last night.  Very slippery and crowded roads.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning everyone...

I am having a lazy morning but got caught in my jammies by the neighbour, I ran and got my housecoat on before opening the door. He had gone to the MTO yard and got us a bucket of sand,

Laundry day today and tidy up..still riding on a high from yesterday. :smitten:
Better get a move on here.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, just watching on TV about all the flooding in areas of the US. Makes me glad all my family members live on high ground but none in the flooding areas.

BUBBLE  thanks for the news of Don's safe arrival. A long flight and the time difference will make even a young person tired. Enjoy the time he is there.

JUNE  I weigh now what I did when I got married 68 years ago and I wish I had the appetite I had then.

AMY  wonderful news for your hubby and you. I am happy for the both of you. Glad you made it home before the freezing rain.

JUNE  wow you sure did sleep good. I lay on the couch every afternoon but never fall asleep.

JENNY  wish I had know that Wallmart had those TV antennas when I was there last week, I didn't even think about it then, all I wanted by then was to get home and rest my back. All the things I have been posting are items I saved that Joan posted. Glad I have them now. The snow you had I can imagine, had it like that here at times over the years.

AMY  thoughtful neighbor you have.

A Little Inspiration

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once  seemed so important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought but what you built,
not what you got because what you gave.
What will matter is not your success but your significance.
What will matter is not how many people you knew,
but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.
What will matter is not your memories but the memories of those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident
It's not a matter of circumstance  but of choice.
Choose to live a life that matters.

Hi Everyone.  Our day is starting out overcast and a bit foggy in places although I don't see fog here in our neighborhood.  I have a light schedule for today.  I do want to attend my 10:30 meeting as have missed the last four weeks, which is the longest period of not attending a meeting in the years I have been involved with Al-Anon.  I will probably watch some golf this afternoon and a little bit of the Olympics this evening.  Otherwise it will just be a restful day.

Yesterday Pat's appointment didn't take very long and so we came home for awhile rather than going to eat.  A little after one we went back downtown and returned a couple of items from our on line grocery order that I had picked up on Wednesday.  The bag of apples had cut out places or cuts on three of the apples and were not acceptable and there was one other item Pat decided she didn't want.  I went into the Walmart and got in line with 6 people ahead of me only to find when I got to the counter that this was a separate money transactions section and the service desk was in the next area over.  I felt rather dumb as when I got there I didn't have to wait at all.  They were not able to find our order in their computer even though I had the Order, with the number they assigned, right on my phone.  So he gave me the refund on a gift card, which was fine as we shop at Walmart a lot.  We then went over to the brand new IHOP and had a very nice lunch.  I had their +55 breakfast special of one scrambled egg, one sausage, one bacon strip and one small piece of ham, plus hash browns and a pancake.  It was all I could eat and the price was very reasonable at $5.99.

Gloria, it doesn't sound like the witch gets much supervision from the owners.  I don't even bother with butter on the fresh French bread.  The last French bread I got at Costco was still warm from the oven when I put it in the grocery cart.  We would plan to leave the Rollator in the car just to be used when Pat isn't in the house.  There is no way she is going to be walking off of sidewalks and into our yard.  I know how heavy wheel chairs and other medical equipment can be as used to have to get a wheelchair in and out of the truck for Stacey although the transport chair is much lighter.  Pat needs to contact her doctor to get a prescription for the rollator.  She recently saw both the pain doctor and the GP but didn't mention it to others.  However, she has decided that she needs to have it and I totally agree.  I have seen the walker with the little runners but with our wood floors the tennis ball type leg protection is better.  If you have an order of over $35 from Walmart they have free two day shipping.  Perhaps that would be an easy way to get the antenna.  I liked the Inspiration piece you posted and what it says is so true.

Bubble, so glad that Don is safely with you and that long trip is over.  I expect it will take a bit for him to recover as air travel is very exhausting and the time changes don't help a bit.  I look forward to seeing the photos.

June, did your doctor prescribe new heart medications for you when you saw her on Thursday?  Nice to read you had a good nights sleep Thursday night and I hope the same was true last night.

Amy, what great news with the answered prayers for the diagnosis your husband received from the doctor.  Glad your got home before the freezing rain.  Amy, you have a thoughtful neighbor and I know from what you have said that you are likewise a very kind and helpful neighbor.  Is this the neighbor with the dogs that you trim their nails?

Jenny, glad you are happy with the HDTV Antenna.  If you use the pool facilities a lot it is sure worth the $50/month.  Highlands Ranch sounds like a very nice community.  When we were in Denver one time I believe we stayed in a motel out near there.  That would be some snow storm.  What a nightmare for your daughter-in-law getting home from the airport.

Amy, I was so relieved to see your happy post this morning..... funny how it matters so much even when we've never met.  A day to celebrate, for sure.  And to do laundry for me, too.......

Gloria, I keep getting rushed & neglect to tell you how many of your "sayings" I copy & send to family & friends.  Thank you.  I usually have cards for all occasions on hand but nary a one when I looked yesterday.... well, birthday ones but that won't work.  I will be out today & pick some up for Joan.  So glad someone had Joe's address (okay, short memory these days)... Thank you... maybe it was Junee....

I am still drooling over that image of warm bread, can almost smell it.  Will have to pick some up when I get out today & bring on the butter ~  :smitten:

Janie, congratulations to the boys on their win... so much fun to share joy with our loved ones.

Larry, these computers aren't as smart & reliable as some say.  The lady at Sam's Club couldn't find a trace of me ever buying glasses from them & I know I've bought several pair, they made the last pair that I was wearing when I went in!  I am a little uneasy of her lack of experience & hope she got the paperwork right.  Your iHop breakfast/lunch sounds like a winner to me, every bite of it. YUM...

Bubble & Don, you are the sweethearts of Seniors & Friends.  I think all of us feel your joy, thanks for the smiles.

Jenny, I check Monarch Pass viewcam every day & happy to see the snow they've had this week, should help the surrounding forest.  Was a white out there for a while, too.  So many of the big pines in the campground near that camera had to be taken out because of the disease so moisture is important to grow the little ones fast.

Super Saturday to all.... drizzle but above freezing this morning so I'm off to measure that fence.  Still not sure what I want to do, we could always fix everything ourselves, frustrating.  I was the "extra pair of hands" and go-fer for most of my life, first for my father & brothers and then for Cas.  Never realized how good I was at taking orders & not having to do that part of the thinking.  :crazy2: Don't get me wrong, doubt if anyone ever considered me a mouse.   ::)

Jenny, a few years ago when we were missing posts from one person, I found her address and posted it here.  I was thoroughly chastised for posting her address where everyone could see it.  So this time, I sent Joe's address to you, hoping you would advise others to contact you for the address to send cards.  In the meantime, Junee posted the address and it may be because I posted a member's address and Junee posted a relative's that no one said anything - thank goodness!  Maybe if you wait a few days, like into next week, you can post Joe's address again for those who might have missed it.

Janie............. :booboo: :booboo:  : :dontknow:

Mary Ann, when I first got on Senior Net my husband was horrified that I even mentioned the state we lived in & not at all happy when I posted my avatar.  As years rolled by we realized "nobody is invisible if you use the internet.  After he died I don't have any qualms about using my real name & where I live.... But I do feel bad you were chastised....  I think time has made a difference.  I was shocked the other day when I Googled my name after someone suggested doing that, & up popped every post & thing I'd ever done online.  I don't do Facebook, Tweet or any other site but this, but since I sign my real name when leaving a sympathy note on Obituaries.... ALL of them showed up.  Much to think about & I don't see a solution.  Shirley

The sun is trying to peek through!  :cheer:  :happydance:

Good Saturday morning to EVERYFRIEND❣️

CALLIE, I am sure glad that obit was not yours!

MARYANN, I understand totally your not wanting to post someone’s address.  Sadly, sometimes we do things to help others and it comes back to bite us, and I am sorry you found that out the hard way.  I just appreciate you taking time to find the address to make it available for those that want to send a card to Joan.  I am still feeling sad that Joe did not respond to me when I asked....I need to get over it!

GLORIA, it would be very easy for you to order one of the HD Antennas on line.  I do believe it would do a good job for you.  The one we bought was very highly rated, as Bob found out when doing his search.  I could help you with it if you would like.  You realize that different areas have more channels to offer, and I bet you would be surprised at all you can get. They are very simple and not at all offensive to look at.  They do not look like an antenna like we all know them to look like.

SHIRLEY, the mountains have had quite a bit of snow, however we are still in the negative regarding the amounts that are needed.

Enjoy your day.....

Jenny

Jenny - and others - you can see the chastisement did not faze me as I am still here.  But I did learn my lesson and oddly enough, people who are still here are some who criticized the post.  I do think the fact it was a member's info I posted as opposed to a relative's name had a lot to do with it and I knew I would not go that route again.  I am none the worse for wear!  Thanks.

Gloria, I can't believe how many hours I must sleep..I'll have to add them up as an average. I must give credit to the Lorazepam I take though. It works well for me. I take one about 9 p. m. and one after lunch, hence a full nights sleep, and a two hour, or more nap. It is an addictive drug, but I don't worry about that. I never go over two a day, and they are Dr. Prescribed. Gloria, your post, "A little Inspiration" fit me just perfectly today. I had been thinking of all the many, many things I had given away when I moved here, and feeling a bit regretful for what I did in haste…then I scolded myself, realizing that in my heart and my mind I still retained the good they did me, and so the "things" were not needed anymore. Hopefully they are doing someone else some help now.

Larry, no, I have no medications for my heart, but I will discuss that with her when she comes here on the 28th. To tell you the truth, I was so tired, and so surprised at learning I had heart problems, I just wanted to get back home and into my bed.

Don, I love the picture of you and your beloved. You both look so at peace, as if you have finally finished your time apart, and life is back to normal again. I wish it were possible for it to stay that way.

Tisie, It was Junee, from "down under" that shared Joe's address. I wished Junee would post here daily……she is a darling woman.

I have always taken my name off "junk" mail I receive, like catalogs and advertising, etc. but my son told me I am wasting my time. That our name and address is all over the place. I still do it , but think I'll quit. why waste my ink.

I just woke up from a three hour "nap", and was not happy about having to get up.Now it's time to get my mail, and decide if I want an early supper so I can get to the hymn sing at 6:30. I think I'll give it a try or I will have a long nothing evening ahead of me. Maybe a long walk is essential too………

It had win.7 and I never knew it at all. we had bought it at best buy on our way to the airport to fly to A Z. a lady friend of our son knew how to. and she even
had a hard getting it to take my email address. when it took it it loaded litterer
thousands of emails all i had ever sent and received on every computer i ever had. it took her 5 - 6 hours to delete them off of it. the government spy's on us all. relax and continue having fun or just be afraid. I recommend having the fun. good night and have sweet dreams.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And welcome back to you Carolyn!  Did you post before as "Carolyn"?

I'm waiting for the boingr for the doggies pills and I'm going to go get ready for church while I wait.  I missed it last week and I don't want to take that chance today.  It's still raining ans supposed to do so all day today. I'm REALLY ready for some sunshine!

I don't say much here but I always read what is happening to each one of you.  I'm happy and relieved for the good news and worried and concerned for the not-so-good news.  And I enjoy very much hearing how each of you spend your days.  It's like reading a really good book and feeling as though I'm actually a part of what goes on in your lives each day.

Warm, muggy and cloudy here today but back into rainy and chilly tomorrow.  The ups and downs of Spring weather can keep me guessing.  My daffodils are in bloom and the cherry trees and magnolias and all of the other ornamental trees in the neighborhood and around town are in bloom.  I watched a brown headed  nuthatch pair working very hard to build a nest in a hollow tree down in the woods yesterday.  At least she was working hard.....he seemed to spend a lot of time just looking around and basking in the sunshine.   ;D

Carolyn, are you our lovely lady from NZ?  It is so nice to have you back after all these years.  I love when old friends come back to visit with us!  I hope you will stop by often.

I'll watch the last of the Olympics today....or at least some of it.  Other than that, I have no plans.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone..

Liquid sunshine here Jane, freezing rain warnings still in effect. Managed to get all the laundry done and put away yesterday, tried to straighten up the sewing area....ha ha ha. When we make cancer quilts the fabric has to be washed  so I did some of that also yesterday and ironed it.

Today is a day of rest here..

Carolyn, welcome back!

Lloyd, hope you had a good nights sleep.

June, enjoy hymn sing.

Roley, gremlins have a way of sneaking in on you and your computer. I think we all have had that problem.

Phyliss, what a lovely sight that must be with all the blossoms...at the moment our trees are getting a coating of ice :(
Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Everyone.Hi Everyone.  We are to have another nice day with a 50% chance of rain this afternoon.  I am going to Sunday School and then plan on coming home to get Pat so we can go back to Church.  We will either go out to eat or pick up something to bring home to eat.  Then will have a quiet and restful remainder of the day.  I do plan on watching the golf tournament later this afternoon.

Don, thanks for sharing the picture.  Glad you are safely at your destination.  You both are looking good and I see the little grandchild in the background.

Shirley, I was really surprised that they couldn't find our order in the Walmart database.  They sure don't have any trouble getting the bill sent in for what you buy.  I am finding that a lot of places are using our telephone numbers to find us in their computers.  Glad your drizzle yesterday wasn't of the freezing type.  I remember how concerned family members were when we first started posting on SeniorNet.  My first email address was so complicated that I couldn't remember it much less expect anyone to have any idea of who my emails might be from.  I quickly decided it made more sense to just use my name in my email address.

Callie, when I first moved back to Georgia over 20 years ago there was another person in the area with my same name and we would get called asking if we were that person.  As far as I know we were not related.

Jenney, I checked our area and the antenna would just give us the main networks.

June, if I had a choice I would rather sleep than not be able to sleep.  Your medicine must contribute to your sleepiness and probably your age may be a factor.  :)  Many of us live many years with heart problems so I hope you are not unduly worrying about the EKG results.  I think your son is right about the futility of trying to hide our name and address from the junk mail.  I don't worry about that much anymore.  Glad you got to go to the hymn sing and hope you will be up to attending Church today.

Mary Ann, I feel we have given up our privacy as we are being tracked from so many different sources and the satellites can even beam down to see a person.  I feel I live such a routine and probably uninteresting (to others) life that why would anyone bother.  I take what precautions I can to protect banking and credit card information but now we have even had that broached by the Equifax security breach and who knows how many other places.

Lloyd, computers have the capability to keep track of a lot of different information.  Emails can really accumulate quickly.

Roley, sure hope the ice and snow miss your area.  At least at this time of the year it probably won't stick around very long.

Carolyn, glad to see you back with us.  Unfortunately we had lost a number of folks who were active participants.

Phyllis, like you I have always liked to read books where characters continue in that authors other works and you sort of feel a kinship with the characters.  Every job needs a good supervisor and that must be what the male bird was doing.  :)

Amy, Pat always washes her fabrics before using them. Like Phyllis said we also have many blooming trees and bushes and some of the grass has really greened up.  We noticed that some of the blossoms are now being replaced by new leaves on some of the trees.  It is nice to see nature being revitalized for the new season of growth.  Hope the ice doesn't break down your trees and that you can stay inside and safe from any falls on the ice.

Good morning everyone, 35° and raining lightly. Supposed to continue most of the day.

LARRY  this is the first time since the Olympics came to TV I did not watch any of it, especially the ice skating. The summer ones I only like the diving and swimming but like most of the winter ones. I would not be able to get anywhere without my rollator. Remember all I have been posting are things that Joan posted. Don't know how or where she found all of the things she did.

DON  great photo, thanks for the link. Looking at you in that pose you remind me of Burl Ives-actor-singer. Remember him? He was also the snowman in a Christmas animation. Bubble looks happy in there and her grandson, too.

SHIRLEY  as I told Larry above, those items I have posted were originally posted by Joan and I do not know how many I have. Yes it was Junee who posted Joe's address. The one big thing I dislike about the information on the internet is our personal information. It is out there for everyone to read so I try to be careful with personal things I post.

JENNY  Could you send me the name of the one you have? I have to do something, Cox has just raised the cost again.

MARY ANN  I must have a short memory because I do not remember you posting a members information.

JUNE  at times I think of the things I left behind in my life but I have the memories of them so they are not really lost.

ROLEY-PETER  I keep waiting for more snow at this time of year. Instead we have had more rain and warmer temperatures.

CAROLYN  welcome back. There are some who used to post here that just dropped out suddenly and we never knew what happened to them. Sad.

JANE  like you I am ready for sunshine even with cold temperature. Any thing right now to brighten the days.

PHYLLIS  normally it would be the end of April early May before things start blooming here.

LARRY  like you I cannot see where my life would be interesting to anyone else. I feel like my life is just boring.

A little more kindness
Joseph J. Mazzella

I was running a few errands in my car the other day. The sun was out, the radio was playing, and I was singing along. The song was a joyful one and even my weak voice sounded good singing it. Then it happened, however. The sweet sound of the music ended and was replaced with the dreaded news break. I drove on while the announcer droned on. Gas prices were going higher again because of the competitive speculation on Wall Street. The race for the Presidency was getting nastier and nastier.  Rioting had broken out when fans of a sports team had gone wild, celebrating their team’s championship.

Finally, I could take no more and turned off the radio. Silence seemed preferable to listening to anything else about the crazy, competitive society we live in. I slowed down as I entered a local town and watched the people as I drove by. A tall muscular man was helping an elderly lady out of a car and helping her position her walker so she could go into a local store. A smiling woman was tossing birdseed into her backyard while a dozen Robins flew down to enjoy the feast being laid out before them. A young man was walking along, carrying his two year old daughter safely in his arms. He tickled her gently when she pulled the hat off his head and they both laughed. I laughed too as I looked at all of this kindness. It felt like a glimpse of Heaven. The radio may have been off in my car, but in my heart I was still singing.

In truth, this world could use a little more kindness and a lot less competition. Kindness makes us all winners in this life. Kindness reminds us that we are all God’s Children. Kindness shows us that we don’t have to beat others in this world. We just have to love them. May all of your moments here then be full of kindness, love, and joy. And may your only competition be with yourself: to be the best possible you that you can be.

Good afternoon, It has been pouring rain all day, and night. Flood conditions around, but nothing like the mid west.

Larry, I am looking forward to IHop, we use to stop in one on Cape Cod.IHop is just rebuilding in a building, that  started out as Boulders Steaks, then Crab Shack and now pancakes. I cannot see them open 24 hours here, as this is still a small town in winter.

Amy, I am late in saying this, but I am so glad to read about your good news.  We were all on the pray list.

Welcome Carolyn back.

Gloria, I was always a fan of Burl Ives, have all his albins. Guess there will never be another singer like him.

Have to go, as my across the street neighbors age taking me out for my birthday dinner.  They were in Aruba, when I had my bash.

June, happy to see you posting and you are getting around. My doctor told me a YEAR ago my heart my heart was getting weaker, but here I am a year later, taking all the meds. for my condition.

Thank you for posting Jo Lavelle's address.  I know of a family in Minnesota with the same last name.

Jenny:  We have an antenna here but it isn't as strong as we would like.  Could you send me the brand you bought - I am sure Don paid less.  I should go and exercise there when I get home too.

Mary Ann:  123 years ago - that would really be a different lifestyle.

Gloria:  The year we had 4 teenagers - I drove through the garage door backing out - worked full time too.  It was organized confusion.  ----do what your body tells you - rest well and often.

June:  Always good to read your posts.

Jane: Congrats to the winners.  Two Scotties - cute little ones.  I wish... but we have critters in the area.

Back from an excellent Church service. Our Pastor gave an excellent sermon. I don't think he intended my particular thoughts. He dwelt on folks like Thomas Jefferson..his good deeds and wisdom and several other notable folks and the wonderful things that they have done for Christianity. Wonderful people...good news. All through history we have had wondrous things take place.

My mind kept thinking about my own life. How needful I was down through the years..even in my child hood, and how very GOOD God was to me. Even though I hadn't done any thing notable or great God still stepped in and made me "me". He strengthened me, and made me know I was special, because he made me. He knows every muscle, vein, and thought of me. I am nothing, but I am something, because God did it, as he did ALL OF US. Thanks be to God.

A good Sunday HELLO to all......especially you, CAROLYN! Welcome back.

GLORIA and CAROL, I will send you the info on the antenna.  We saw the exact antenna at Home Depot yesterday for $60., and we paid $35.

LARRY, we would not be happy with just the channels available to us on the antenna, but for others it would be perfect.  Even though we get 71 of them, they would not satisfy us at this time.

JUNE good to see you are out and about enjoying yourself today.

PHYLLIS, it is always good to see you post.  Happy you enjoy keeping up with us.

We are headed out to get some fresh air....enjoy your afternoon, EVERYFRIEND!

Carol, when my dad was born in 1895, my grandparents lived in Elba, a small town in SE Minnesota.  I don't know the population then, but in 2005 when Jim and I drove through, the population was 200+.  When Dad was ready for high school, they moved to Plainview MN.  There were two other children alive at the time.  My grandfather was at times a farmer, shoe maker, photographer.  They lived a rather Spartan life.  Grandma wrote about her life when she was 85 and told about having a Christmas tree that was not pine - it was one my grandfather went out in a field to get - and it filled the room where they put it.  They had to stoop down to go from one side of the room to the other.  Cotton batting on the branches represented snow.  Of course there were candles, lit and quickly extinguished.  It was, indeed, a different way of life.

Hello everyone. So lovely to see familiar names.

Update on the two not so little ladies

Brooke is in her third year at Auckland University and is a true academic. Her dream job is to work in a Museum or Gallery which specialises in Maori and Pacific Island Art. To get there she will have to do Post Grad studies. For the Post Grad course she will need to get A Grades in her studies this year.

Grace is now 17 and in her last year at high school. She is an accomplished artist and excels in English too. She's also an amazing Art Photographer. She will go to Auckland University of Technology next year as an Applied Arts and Psychology Student. She hopes to do a Conjoint degree and her dream is to become an Art therapist.  She's a lovely girl. Neither of the girls are party goers and are utterly focused on their studies. Grace is doing Scholarship exams this year which are really hard and the amount of work is astounding. She also alongside these exams has to sit her University Entrance exams. She has a unique schooling program. She only attends two classes at her private school and the rest of her studies are done under the auspices of our NZ Correspondence school. The school is called Te Kura. So she's totally self motivated. She sits all the exams that every other child sits and has a Dean who oversees  her progress. The Dean coordinates her education.

I'm plodding along. Arthritis has got the better of me. I still walk my dog but it's not the 5k a day like before. I go to our local cafe/coffee roasters every day. We have privileges and ChiChi is allowed inside the cafe. I was the first customer the day the cafe opened. It's a hub for the hood and a 5 min walk from my home. On Saturday at 4pm they had a soirée. People had to bring a musical instrument or recite a poem. The owner is Argentinian. Ours was his first cafe but now he has 3. The owner is a Greenie and a campaigner for human rights and social justice which is right up my street! One of his Cafes is called "The Activist"

Just had a nice walk half way around the outside of our compound. It felt good to be out after a ham dinner and a two hour nap. I didn't work up an appetite, but I intend to go down for a tuna salad supper anyway.  I can always bring part of it home for a late snack.

Gloria de, I too will live with a bad heart..I'm just anxious to see my doctor when she comes here on Wed. I was so tired from my visit to her clinic I didn't stay to ask questions..just wanted to get home.I had a good education on the computer reading about heart and TIA's and how they are easily mistaken one for the other. The body is a wonderful thing and you have been doing fine with yours, my dear. I'm proud of you girl.

Carolyn, I do hope you will keep coming back in, so we can get re-acquainted again....it has been a long time, and we need you.

G'Morning all.
Gloria,Larry : That dreaded 'white stuff' has finally arrived !, for a week now the temperature at night has been around the zero mark or below and just a few degree's above during daylight hours but, now it has just started to snow and the temp is going down, the forecaster said it would reach the south coast (here) by Tuesday !, and looking at the sky now,i would say by the time Tuesday gets here, it will be quite thick on the ground, which, for us southerners is most unusual !, normally the snow does not reach this far down south, or if it does it is only a light dusting !, as you say Larry, it should not hang around for very long, perhaps it might all be gone by next weekend ?.

good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a balmy 41º here this morning/!  Almost feels springlike and the highs are predicted to be in the mid 40s to mid 50s all week.  Skeptic that I am, I know we are in for more cold weather before Spring really is Sprung!

Today I'm going to lunch with friends from my old job at PA House Furniture.  After that, I have an appointment for a checkup with my dr. and then I pick up Kiran.  Going to be a busy day!

I made some arrangements for the weekend with my grandniece who attends a nearby college.  I'm meeting her at her dorm Friday afternoon and she'll drive both of us in my car to my sister's where I'll spend the weekend and then she'll drive both of us back to her dorm on Monday.  I haven't had a visit with my sister for about 6 months and I'm looking forward to it.  I wasn't looking forward to the drive and now I don't have to.  I love that kid!

Waiting for the boinger for the doggies pills and then they'll have breakfast.  I don't think I'll eat anything since I'm eating an early lunch.  Enjoy your day everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, no rain this morning at last. Well the ax is starting to fall. The witch tool the lady down stairs under me to court on Friday, she is being evicted for smoking in her apartment.  She keeps telling me I am, too. I stop in the smoke shack and talk to my friends that smoke so of course the smell gets on my clothes, too. Now I better stay away from them?

LLOYD  glad you are enjoying those posts, just remember they were originally posted by Joan over the years. Glad I saved some so can share them now.

GLORIA de  the younger folks might only think of Burl Ives as the voice of the Christmas time cartoon snowman.

CAROL  I had 3 teenagers who had to go here or there. I was glad when they finally were old enough to drive and get their own cars. They were all in the school band  and scouts. I was the one who had to drive them all the time.

JUNE  I think I have felt needful most of my life. Then just take it one day at a time and think-this too will pass.

MARY ANN  the thought or real candles on a tree is scary.

CAROLYN  your daughters sound like wonderful young ladies who know what  they want  to do with their lives. You must be proud of both.

AMY  glad you finally had a lazy day. I went down to our library to look for a book to read, think I have read most of the ones that interested me on the shelves I can reach. Top shelves and bottom shelf I cannot get to.

PETER  weather has been odd all over the last couple of years. Living in the north east here winters used to be very cold and a lot of snow. What this year has been does not feel normal.

JANE  have a great lunch with your former co-workers. Wonderful that you will get to spend the next week end with your sister.

LLOYD  now that would be a sight to see, wonder how cold he was.

Afraid, still
Bob Perks

"There's no need to be afraid," I said.

And yet, he was afraid, still.

"It's only noise.  It can't hurt you."

Still, he acted as if it could.

Fireworks.  Off in the distance or close by, what he could not see scared him.  What he did not understand made him hide.  It was what he heard,  like the thunderstorms that rock his soul, the explosions were upsetting.

"I won't let anything happen to you.  Look at me.  I'm not afraid," I said.

Still, it made no difference.

"Oh, God in heaven.  I'm scared sometimes, too.  I come to you for comfort.  I hear your voice and you tell me, "It's alright.  There's no need to be afraid."

Still, I am.  What is it that takes away my fear?  What do you do when I call your name and tell you I am afraid?

I need to know, you see someone has come to me for comfort from the noise that life makes and I am lost in trying.  I don't know what to say or do.

I have said all I can.  I have done all I can and yet...he is afraid, still.

God, what do I say to him?"

In the silence of a prayer, in the ending of a worship comes a moment when God's wisdom washes over you and in that moment you are at peace.

"I am here."

When logic fails in the face of fear and wisdom falls short of healing one's soul, there is only one thing that helps.

Just being there.

Some things in life defy explanation.  They just are the way they are.  Fear comes from not accepting that.  Fear rules over logic like trying to see in the dark.

"I am here" says you are in this together.  I will be with you until the light and all you could not see is finally revealed.

God, thanks for always being there even when I was afraid, still.

Hello everyone!

Carolyn, good to see the update. Brooke and Grace are really continuing on the path they started so many years ago.
They were already very talented and clear thinking then. Was it Grace that was drawing so well then?  I wish you would show some photos. I remember Brooke looking quite serious but Grace had a mischievous glimpse in her eyes LOL.
Your cafe sounds an interesting place to spend some time there.
Do you have many Argentinians in Auckland?

Lloyd, I bet that created a sensation. Was he drunk?

Jane - enjoy your visit with your sister.  These moments are getting more precious as we age.

Peter - Yes, my son in London also said it was snowing this morning and under 0C. He even sent a picture of the flakes dropping on the garden table. Brrrrrrrrrr!!!

Hi Everyone.  Our day starts out rainy and is to continue through noon and perhaps afterwards.  We will stay in the 60's all day.  We had the most folks attending our Sunday School class yesterday that I have seen since we moved here 3 years ago.  We did not go out to lunch but I stopped at Firehouse Subs for a big sub that Pat and I shared for lunch at home.  I have fixed Pat's breakfast and put out some stuffed peppers to thaw that we will have for our dinner along with a salad and there is still banana pie so we will eat well this evening.  I struggled with weariness yesterday afternoon and went to bed around 8 pm.  I am still weary today so don't plan to do anything after I finish with the discussions and have decided not to put in a reservation for our monthly Senior luncheon at Church tomorrow.

Gloria, are you familiar with a singer named Roger Whittaker?  I have always liked his singing and would call him a balladeer sort of like Burl Ives.  I don't find any of the postings in our discussion boring.  I think that at this time in our lives we don't have a lot of opportunities for new and exciting things but mainly settle into a routine that is comfortable or necessary in terms of how we feel or are able to do.  I think our joy on these discussion isn't so much what we say but that we say something that keeps the links of our friendship strong.

June, thanks for your thoughts on God and me.  We each are alike but also very unique.

Jenny, it pays to shop around.  A couple of days ago I needed a replacement light bulb for our bathroom and when I looked for the bulb on Amazon it was over $19.  I checked on the Walmart site and the exact same bulb was just over $6.  Fortunately, my wife is a very careful shopper.  I also try to do some checking before buying.

Carolyn, thanks for the update on Brooke and Grace.  It sounds like they are outstanding young ladies and very good students.  I know you have suffered a lot with Arthritis and have to be careful about using certainly ingredients in your food, if I remember correctly.  Are you still living in the cottage where you had moved when you were posting here before.  I have forgotten some of the details.  I need to ask for an explanation as to what your reference to the "hood" means.  Here in the USA it refers pretty much to gangs and usually isn't a very good thing.

Roley, enjoy the snow.  Your area sounds like ours in that some years we don't get any snow either although did get a little snow on one day a few weeks ago but it never covered anything and the streets and walks were too warm for it to stay on them.

Lloyd, at least the ATV rider gave the news media something to talk about other than politics.  It sounds like the action of someone on drugs.

I haven't tried to comment to everyone today as don't seem to have the energy but have enjoyed all of the postings.

Hello Bubbles, yes your right about the snow in London, fortunately for us, it seems to have eased off after reaching down as far a Gatwick, at times the 'South Downs' comes to our rescue and holds a lot of the rough weather back but, like the forecaster said, Tuesday may be a different story for us!.
It is nearly 4 - 15 pm here and the sun has started to set !, already you can feel the temperature has started to go down,  bed-Socks again tonight methinks !.

LARRY. Roger Whittaker was very popular here a few years back, he made his fame and fortune here in the UK, i think he died two or three years ago
                                                                                               Cheers.   Roley.  aka Peter.

Mary Ann:  I found Elba, Minnesota.  It is very close to the Mississippi and a 2 hour drive from St. Peter (where one grandson goes to school).  We have a lot of relatives all over the state and last year spent time in 4 separate areas.

June:  You wrote a very nice message.

Jenny: We have exactly the same one ($35) and it just doesn't bring in all of the channels.  We can see the mountain with the tower and it still does not work as well as it should.  But - this is more than we ever had years ago.

Carolyn:  What is happening in your part of the world?

Good morning.

It is a bright and sunny day here in the Mile High.  We are going to warm up some for a couple of days then another snowstorm is projected on Wednesday.

CAROL, I am sorry your antenna does not work that well for you in that area.  I know the ones that are NOT ampufied do not get good ratings.....but the amplified ones sure do.

LARRY, I have always enjoyed listening to Roger Whitaker ..... I have to admit I would not find life quite as fulfilling if I did not have access to music.  It is a part of my daily life.  I am a hummer.....drive my family crazy at times, so when music is playing my mind is very happy.  I, too, am a bargain seeker, so I always check around before making a purchase.  At times the ease of buying on Amazon makes it worth the cost of a item, if I have to pay extra for shipping, etc. and of course the convince of getting it delivered in two days.  You do have to be careful though as they are not always the cheapest.

GLORIA.....AFRAID STILL.....thank you again for saving and sharing.
I feel bad for the lady that is being evicted, but rules are rules and she should have lived within them.  As for you having to stay away from those that smoke when you are with them....of course you are going to pick up the smell, but she would have a hard time proving that you smoke in your apartment when of course you DO NOT!

YEA, JANE, your Friday plans sound wonderful.....I am happy for you.

GLORIA de, happy the rains in your area have not been too bad....hope it stays that way.

Enjoy your day.

Jenny

Good morning everyone.

Even though it's only February the nights are getting cooler which I must say pleases most of us as we have a very humid climate.

What is happening here? We have had mass immigration over the last 9 years which has resulted in born and bred kiwis being displaced in the Housing market by wealthy migrants who have pushed the value of our Real Estate Sky high. For instance my little house is worth almost $800,000 on the current market. We have a lot of homeless people now because they cannot afford the rents which have also skyrocketed because of demand. There is not enough social housing for the people on lower incomes. I feel sad that this is nothing like the Country I grew up in.

In my city we have a huge Asian population now. If you went into the CBD you could be forgiven for thinking you are in HongKong. Amongst all of us it is our indigenous people who are suffering the most with the overblown Housing Market.

Then we have Peter Thiel who bought his citizenship. He now owns prime NZ Real Estate. The Global Elite have decided NZ is their bolthole in case of an Apocalypse of some kind. Prime land is being bought up by these Elites. This is not welcomed by the majority of the population.

So that is Aotearoa (NZ) in 2018.

My suburb is very built up now. A lot of Townhouses, Apartments, Mews Developments. There are more Multi Dwelling Developments in the pipeline. When we moved here 44 years ago we had cows across the road. Orchards and vineyards in the Hood. It has all gone.

I live very close to all amenities. 5 mins from Medical Centre and Hospital. 5 mins from many shopping outlets, Malls etc. 12 mins by car from the City Centre in off peak traffic. 5 mins drive to the Station. Brooke uses the trains and buses a lot. Her Campus is in the City Centre. There are 35,000 plus students at Auckland University. Thousands more at AUT which is also  in the City centre. Streets teeming with students. Most Auckland kids live at home because they are so close to our Foremost University.

Our waterfront is crowded now with Apartment buildings, bars and restaurants. I never go into the City. It's expensive to eat there and we have lots of cafes and eateries out here where I am.

We still have our Wild West Auckland beaches for which I am thankful. I hope future generations will keep this area as a Regional Park as it is now.

I hope everyone is well today.

 Fascinating Story, from WWII !

Starting in 1940, an increasing number of British & Canadian Airmen found themselves as the involuntary guests of the Third Reich, and the Crown was casting about for ways and means to facilitate their escape...

Now obviously, one of the most helpful aids to that end is a useful and accurate map, one showing not only where stuff was, but also showing the locations of 'safe houses' where a POW on-the-lam could go for food and shelter.

Paper maps had some real drawbacks -- they make a lot of noise when you open and fold them, they wear out rapidly, and if they get wet, they turn into mush.

Someone in MI-5 (similar to America 's OSS ) got the idea of printing escape maps on silk.  It's durable, can be scrunched-up into tiny wads, and unfolded as many times as needed, and makes no noise whatsoever.

At that time, there was only one manufacturer in Great Britain that had perfected the technology of printing on silk, and that was John Waddington Ltd.   When approached by the government, the firm was only too happy to do its bit for the war effort.

By pure coincidence, Waddington was also the U.K. Licensee for the popular American board game Monopoly.  As it happened, 'games and pastimes' was a category of item qualified for insertion into ‘CARE packages', dispatched by the International Red Cross to prisoners of war.

Under the strictest of secrecy, in a securely guarded and inaccessible old workshop on the grounds of Waddington's, a group of sworn-to-secrecy employees began mass-producing escape maps, keyed to each region of Germany, Italy, France or where ever Allied POW camps were located.   When processed, these maps could be folded into such tiny dots that they would actually fit inside a Monopoly playing piece.

As long as they were at it, the clever workmen at Waddington's also managed to add:

1.    A playing token, containing a small magnetic compass

2.    A two-part metal file that could easily be screwed together

3.    Useful amounts of genuine high-denomination German, Italian, and French currency, hidden within the piles of Monopoly money!

British and American air crews were advised, before taking off on their first  mission, how to identify a 'rigged' Monopoly set â€" by means of a tiny red dot, one cleverly rigged to look like an ordinary printing glitch, located in the corner of the Free Parking  square..

Of the estimated 35,000 Allied POWS who successfully escaped, an estimated one-third were aided in their flight by the rigged Monopoly sets.  Everyone who did so was sworn to secrecy indefinitely, since the British Government might want to use this highly successful ruse in still another, future war.

The story wasn't declassified until 2007, when the surviving craftsmen from Waddington's, as well as the firm itself, were finally honored in a public ceremony.

It's always nice when you can play that 'Get Out of Jail' Free'  card!

Some of you are (probably) too young to have any personal connection to WWII (Sep. '39 to Aug. '45), but this is still an interesting bit of history for everyone to know.

Carolyn, thank you for the most interesting post. Your area can be easily confused with various places in the U.S.Not as many wealthy areas here, than in New Zealand, but homes the average American can not afford. to the best of my knowledge, unless they go deep into debt. I am situated in a care facility of which we have many here is So.Ca. I now live nearer my son and Daughter in Love. I moved here two years ago, and I love it. It is run by a Quaker religion, but all faiths are welcome. I could not be happier. Fifteen minutes from Gary and Dori.

We started out with sunny skies, but clouds are forming now, so hopefully the forecast of rain will come true.

I had a big lunch downstairs today, so I will stay home and have a light supper in my Apt. and a nice quiet evening.

I'm still suffering pain from my fall of 10 days ago...these old bones and muscles do not recover as quickly anymore. I see my Dr. again on Wed., so I will have a list of questions for her.

My house plants are sending me mental messages that this is watering day, so I had best get busy with that.

Today was an all around GOOD day!  The sun came out after many days of rain, I got an excellent report from my Dr. visit (she says I have another 20 years to look forward to....we'll see about that) and Kiran and I had a good visit.

Now I bid you all GOOD NIGHT; I wish you a peaceful night and pleasant dreams!

Good morning everyone...

Had a great visit with son, daughter in love and Skye the Dane :) They took us down to where a movie company is changing all the face fronts of the stores to make another movie of Anne. Streets that were paved are now red sand from PEI and the sidewalks were made of  wood.

Today is VON ,not sure if we will head to the vets to pick up pills today or leave it for another day. I do have lots on hand but one never knows what the next day will bring and of course weather has a bearing on it too.

Jane ,happy to read of your fantastic day..nice to catch up with old friends and top it off with time with Kiran.

Lloyd, I found that very interesting to read.

Better go chase the dust bunnies before VON gets here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, it is cold this morning back in the lower 20's again. The forecast for the end of the week does not sound good. Rain and very strong wind. Still not as bad as what has happened in the middle of our USA.

LLOYD  I pray your hope of traveling around the country and meeting some of our “family” happens. I am a home body and only went to California because my daughter moved there.

LARRY  I enjoy coming here and reading what every one is doing. As long as I have my computer and some books to read I am content. I seldom go anywhere, mostly for appointments.

JENNY  it is not just the smoking but we cannot open and widows. The baseboard heating runs below the window and the pipes will freeze and break Then also the particle board window sill will warp and need replacing. Goodness we all like to get a little fresh air in on the days when it is above 40 and the sun is shining in. Of course we are all old and feeble and our minds do not know what to do any more. Grrr. I am glad I saved so,e of Joan's posts and thought of posting them again. I am not trying to take her place, no one cam ever do that, but I can share again those I saved.

CAROLYN  the last place I worked we Americans were the minority, some Asians but mostly Latinos. At least they all learned our language. Those who move here and want all the traditions the left behind and expect us to cater to them. Like the town I live in, when I moved here it was really country, self contained town with all the stores and things needed. Then the elderly started passing on and their homes were bought by city folks who wanted the conveniences of the city. It brought too much change but is still better than the noise and traffic and every thing else of the cities. Now we have only 1 market in town where we had about 8 before in different areas. Now everyone has a car so they head for malls and the stores here are gone.

LLOYD  wonderful story from WW2. I have copied it to share.

JUNE  I only have 3 plants left and one is looking sick.

JANE  not everyone is told by  their doctor they wee still be here at the age you will be in 20 years.

Attitude
Charles Swindall

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude to me is more important than facts.

It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what other people think, or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.

It will make or break a company, a church or a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing that we can do is to play on the one string we have and that is our attitude.

I'm convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful day that is going to be in the high 60's by late afternoon.  I woke up feeling alive this morning after two days of being exhausted.  So am looking forward to the day.  We need to get Pat a new phone as hers started acting crazy yesterday.  She uses the small phone that isn't a smart phone and the last one we got at Walmart so guess that is likely to be where we will go today.  Then we will probably have our main meal out today.  I am thinking Ruby Tuesdays sounds look.  I have nothing else pressing the rest of the day.

Roley, I didn't realize that Roger Whittaker had died.  He had such a nice voice.  Hope it didn't get too cold last night for you.  Bed socks sound like a good idea.

Carol, when I watch some of the TV shows made years ago and see the quality of the picture it makes me realize how far the industry has come to give us great pictures.  At the time of those old shows one didn't think anything about them not being good quality.  Now the picture is great and often the content isn't.

Jenny, I have loved music all of my life and listen to it almost every day.  For several years I have had a Spotify Premium account and can find almost any artist and get a great many of their recording.  There are no commercials with the Premium account so you just get music one song after another.  I used to like to whistle until Pat asked me not to do so as her father had done that and she didn't like it.  I agree with you about Amazon and buying from them. I understand that the man who started Amazon is now the richest man in the world.  The other day due to the Amazon stock going up he gained a billion dollars of worth is one day.

Carolyn, I had sort of forgotten that your season are just opposite of ours and as we approach Spring in about three weeks you are approaching your autumn months.  Your housing prices are really something.  Our world is certainly changing.  The first home I bought in Oklahoma in probably 1963 was $14,000 and it was a nice little three bedroom with garage starter home.  We have housing development in our area where the home are now starting at $150,000 and they are reasonable nice home.  We have a lot of investment by China.  I read recently that a Chinese company just bought the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and they own huge amounts of property in many other places.  It sounds like you live in a very good location.

Lloyd, that was certainly an interesting story about WWII and Monopoly and thanks to Roley for sending it to you and your sharing it.  I have sent it to a number of my friends.

June, hope your area got some rain yesterday as know California needs the moisture.

Jane, that is the kinds of doctor's report we would all like to get.  I am hopeful for at least 10 more years.  Glad you had a nice day yesterday.

Amy, when we first moved to Georgia and went into the small town nearby they were in the process of making a horror movie on the one street and temporary signs were in place of the actual ones.  Local citizens were being used as extras in the movie.  It was an old, old town.

Gloria, I see your sharing of the things your saved that Joan had found and posted for us as a real tribute to her hard work.

Almost Noon here is So. Ca. and no rain in sight. Bright sunshine this morning but dimming down now, so I have hope.

I am due to attend a Food meeting with our main kitchen staff this afternoon, but I may not attend. This is the 12th day now since I took that nasty fall, and I am still suffering pains from the waist on down to my toes. My Dr. will be here tomorrow, so she is going to get an earfull from me.

I will be going downstairs for lunch pretty soon, then home to read and nap. In the meantime, I will call the lady that heads the food committee, and give her my regrets.

See you later my friends......keep the faith. June

Just a bit of advice..

As the old saying goes

I would raise my voice and not stop

Even though I know how hard that is,
for you to do....   Just do it.

IMHO,  you are paying for services that you
are apparently not getting.

So be strong and advocate for your self.
You have earned this right.

Good morning to Amy, Lloyd, Sandy, Jane S, Goria, Larry, Jenny and June. Are there 2 Janes? If I've missed one of you I'm sorry.

Very windy here in Tamaki Makaurau ( Maori name for Auckland) this morning. Much cooler and Autumn seems to be infiltrating the air.

The dog and I went went for a walk as usual and stopped off at the coffee shop ( as usual). Before I left I bought enough coffee to last me until Tuesday. ( Ground beans) The coffee shop also roasts coffee for all the branches and the online store. On roasting days the whole hood smells delicious.

The neighbourhood where I live has gradually become gentrified. The entire World seems to want to live in Auckland so the influx of newcomers has changed the demographics. There are many million dollar homes now in this suburb. It's demand. You can't get anything even a small apartment under $500,000. Australia and Canada have the same problem in cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Vancouver. You would pay much less in cities in the USA with the same populations. People are paying to live near the Ocean and the Hauraki Gulf. So for the person who thought I must live in a good area it's not that,  it's just ridiculously overpriced for very modest Real Estate.

We have a lot of trees in the Hood, lots of bird life and lots of ducks because the estuary is just a few mins walk from my house. The ducks have their babies in the next street and then they move to my street because over generations they have learned it's easy pickings for food. They get worms from our lawns and beg for hand outs. In breeding season we all take to turns to protect the ducks and ducklings as they cross the road. They do this several times a day.

The ducklings from last Spring are now fully grown ducks. They wander the street in gangs of around 12 ducks. If I leave the gates open they come in and sleep on the front lawn. When I want to let the dog out I have to herd the ducks back on to the pavement ( sidewalk to you).

We don't have any predators in my Country only cats which of course were brought in by early settlers. We don't have any native mammals only birds. We have an ancient reptile called the Tuatara which has remained unchanged for millions of years. Scientists say it's a miniature kind of dinosaur. We have native bats and lots of harmless native creepy crawlies.

June you really must ask for the health care you obviously need. Sandy is right. You deserve it.

I'm going to have a hot lunch today. Left over curry. Tonight I can just make myself a toasted sandwich. I love days I don't need to cook.

Take care everyone

Carolyn

Sandy, thank you for your kind thoughts. My doctor will get an earful tomorrow. There is not much they can do for me though when I refuse hospitalization, or a bunch of tests that would just wear me down some more. The most she can do for me is prescribe pain medication, and I don't like to fill my self up with that stuff either. I have a suspicion that a lot of the pain I'm feeling is due to the PAD…my  arteries are full of stuff, and the veins are trying to take over what the arteries can't handle, so pain…..

Carolyn, I think what I said to Sandy will help you understand my attitude. I'm 93, had a great life…nothing outstanding, but I lived it to the fullest. What the medical folks do now is run all kinds of tests, and it shows them what the  problems are…and how they are increasing, but there is no cure. I know there is no cure, because I have studied it all on my computer. My body has unfixable problems and that's it. So I grump now and then, but I'm really a happy person and very thankful, and I love all of you folks who care. What breed of dog do you have Carolyn ? This is the first time in my life I have no pets, and I miss them. But they need care that I can no longer give.  My oldest son lives in the small town of Santa Cruz, Ca., and real estate has gone crazy out here too. They have a small two bedroom home, and if they sold now they could make a tremendous profit, just because there is no land available there. How long have you lived in Aukland ?

Evening is settling in here. I was planning on going downstairs for dinner…I have never eaten crab cakes which is being served, but changed my mind and pulled a Pizza for one out of the freezer and I will eat at home. Hope to return to say Goodnight later. June

I''ve had a lazy day since I came home from work.  I made a few phone calls and settled some business and cleared my upcoming weekend so I can enjoy my visit with my sister.

CAROLYN, when I joined the old Senior Net, there was another person who posted as Jane, and one who posted with an initial so I became JaneS.  The "S" represents my last name but I think I might be the only Jane who is currently posting here.

The more you post the better I remember you.  It's all coming back...especially the girls.  I remember them as little ones so you must have been gone for a while!

I'm going to be off to bed in a little bit.  I slept better last night than I have in a long time.  It was probably a combination of my good Dr. visit and the fact that my daughter had arrived home safely from her visit to Texas.  Also partly because I did as the Dr. suggested and took 2 Ibuprophen before I went to bed.  She suggested that I try this for a couple weeks until I feel. rested.  I'm thinking it might be a good idea.

Good Night my friends.  Sleep well and I wish you sweet dreams!

Good morning everyone..

After my appointment with the chiropractor we are off to pick up pills for Golden Girl. This is a 40 min drive and if I time it right, can treat hubby to lunch  I just hope the rain and /or snow holds off till we get back home. The snow really took a beating yesterday another day like that and there would be little snow left. We know we are not that lucky to think no more snow as I am sure we will get a couple of doozie snow storms yet.

Yesterday I did get my work done and managed to sneak in a nap after VON left to go see a 103 yr old lady..Started working on another quilt and am anxious to see it done.

Jane, have a great time with your sister, I would imagine you have a lot to catch up on. So nice to be able to sit back and let someone else drive.

Jenny, enjoyed the mistakes..I remember one I had read before. Dog for sale, eats anything, loves children.

Gloria, any word on your son's apple trees?

Joy is MIA ??

Better  get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone on the last day of February, mid 30's and the sun is shining.

JANE  glad I am not the only one who saved some of the goodies Joan posted.

LARRY back in the mid 1950's my FIL bought a duplex with each side having 7 rooms. Large front porch and back porch. We had one side and a sis in law the other side, he paid $3,500. for that house. That house was better built than this one I live in now. Posting some of Joan's old posts is my way of saying we will never forget her and I really miss her, thanks.

JENNY  are you still in contact with the Thomas family? Cannot remember the daughter's name but she had sent me some of her wedding pictures to post but then SN shut us out so never did.

JUNE  I have been in pain with my back for more years than I want to think about. Nothing can be done, had PT and pain pills that hardly take the edge off. Very little I can do for myself so I have an idea how you feel.

AMY  too early yet to know if there will be an apple crop this year. He did say the trees look better than the last few years.

Have a good day.

Angel on My Shoulder
By Marya Morin

When I was little, I was taught that everyone has a guardian angel assigned to him or her from the moment of birth. I even believed that if I turned around quickly enough, I would catch sight of mine. Of course, that never happened.
I retained my faith over the years, but eventually stopped believing in the existence of an invisible winged being protectively hovering over me to grant my every wish. The cliche "angel on my shoulder" became just that, an outdated expression that belonged in hymns and childish dreams.
I grew up, married and had a child. Although blessed in many ways, life was a constant struggle financially, hitting an all-time low three years ago. My husband lost his job of thirty-five years. We had managed to buy our first home only a year before, and although the mortgage was low, it quickly depleted the small settlement he received as compensation for all his years of hard work.
Jobs were non-existent in our rural area. We maxed out our credit cards within months just trying to survive. Our outlook was bleak, forcing us to face the harsh reality of our situation; we would have to put the house up for sale and rent a small apartment.
We had no equity in our home, so there would be nothing left from the sale to pay off our other bills. Declaring bankruptcy was inevitable, and we began to plan accordingly.
"We need to get the house market-ready," my husband stated sadly. "We'll clean the chimney, empty the septic tank and repaint. We'll also have to file our income taxes so we can declare that debt along with the rest," he added, rubbing his tired, red-rimmed eyes.
I nodded quietly and got up to get the paperwork. We'd filled out income tax forms several months earlier but never filed. Due to the lump sum settlement, we knew we owed thousands of dollars. Now there would be interest and late filing fees as well. I handed him the thick forms with all our other bills and called the chimney sweep to come the next day.
"Don't forget, we still have the chimney sweep's coat he left here last year," my husband reminded me, and I retrieved that too, tossing it on the back of the chair. As it landed, a crumpled piece of paper fell out of the pocket. I bent to pick it up and saw it was an old twenty-dollar bill.
"Wow â€" that's ancient!" my husband remarked.
"It's still money," I pointed out bitterly, my hands shaking from the temptation to keep it. It was a small amount, but to me, it was a windfall.
I looked at my husband and saw the same thought in his sad eyes. Surely, the owner would never remember it was there, and if he did, well, what proof did he have?
We were silent for a long time. Always of one mind, we reached the same conclusion. I tucked the money back into the jacket. We resumed our discussion of what needed doing, glancing longingly at the coat every so often, but the money remained there.
The next day, my husband went to see a tax accountant to recheck our forms. I waited for the chimney sweep. His fee sat neatly on the table in embarrassingly small bills and change.
He arrived, did his job, collected his money and thanked me profusely for keeping his coat for so long.
"I'm sorry. I meant to come by several times to get it, but just never got around to it." I waved him off with a forced smile.
After he left, I went to make coffee. It would be weak, since I was scraping the bottom of the can to collect the last grains. I reached for the milk I'd been so sparing with, hoping it would last until we received a small check we were expecting. I'd been too stingy! The milk made a glopping sound as soured lumps fell into my coffee.
It was the final straw! In a rage, I threw my cup across the kitchen into the dining room where it shattered against a mirror. Diluted coffee streamed in rivulets down the wall and pooled with the glass shards on the floor.
"Why?" I screamed at a God, who I felt had abandoned me. "We're good people. We're honest, work hard, and this is our reward?" I railed. "I know you're busy. I know we're not important, but can you at least send one of those angels you want me to believe in to help us out a little? I'm not asking for a fortune! I just want to keep what little we have!" I screamed, tears saturating my face.
I breathed shakily, trying to compose myself. Grabbing a dustpan and a rag, I bent down to pick up the broken glass. As I did so, I felt a gentle, comforting touch on my shoulder. Startled, I whirled around to see a reflection in a small piece of mirror â€" a beautiful woman's face surrounded by a bright light. She had the bluest eyes I'd ever seen, and she smiled reassuringly, as if to say, "Everything is going to be all right." A moment later, the image was gone, replaced again by glass shards dotted with coffee splatter. I sat back, filled with a warm sense of peace.
I was still sitting on my heels in a daze when the phone rang. I got to my feet clumsily, reaching for the receiver.
"Hello?" I murmured.
"Honey, are you sitting down? You need to sit down!" It was my husband, his voice raw with emotion.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong." He laughed. "Everything's right! I made a mistake on the taxes. We're getting money back â€" lots of money!"
He went on to explain his error. His jabber made no sense. All I wanted to know was how much our refund would be. When he told me the amount, I gasped. It was more than enough to pay off all our debts, and still leave us with money to buy food and wood for the winter. I was stunned.
I was replacing the phone when it rang again. It was the chimney sweep. He replied to my cheerful hello with an exuberant one of his own.
"I just called to thank you for your honesty," he began. "I found something in my jacket pocket that I thought I'd lost forever â€" a twenty-dollar bill my mother gave me forty years ago for my Confirmation. I never spent it because it was the last thing she gave me before she died a week later."
"Well, I'm glad you found it," I told him, guiltily remembering those few ugly moments when I was tempted to steal it for my own needs.
"May angels always watch over you, ma'am," he told me softly, and I smiled, my eyes filling with tears.
"They do," I whispered as I hung up the phone.

Hi Everyone.  We are going to have a rainy and relatively cool day in the low to mid-60s.  We plan on going to the Church this evening for the Wednesday night dinner.

Yesterday it was a beautiful day outside.  We did enjoy nice petite steak dinners at Ruby Tuesdays.  I had the salad bar for one of my two sides. There salad bar contains over 50 items and is really good. We then went to Walmart to get Pat a new cell phone as hers has become unreliable.  Now I just have to figure out how to get it set up.  I thought I could just change out the SIM card from her existing phone to replace the one in the new phone but that didn't seem to work.

Late yesterday afternoon I noticed two boxes had been delivered to my neighbor, who is out of town this week.  I had told him I would keep an eye out and if anything was delivered I would bring it over and store in the garage until he gets home.  I have a refrigerator type dolly so took that over and got the boxes on it.  As I started back I noticed the name was his and the address was up the street.  So I started up that way and went two or three houses when I discovered the house numbers were getting smaller and I had gone too long.  I turned around and found the right address.  By the time I got home my heart and arm were complaining but calmed down when I had relaxed in my easy chair. Overall Pat and I had a great day yesterday and enjoyed being out.

Jenny, I liked the crazy signs and dumb typos.  The lack of a comma or a missing word or place of words can really make a difference in how something reads.

June, sorry that you are still suffering from the results of your fall.  Hopefully time will ease the aches from the fall. I hope your doctor will have some suggestions for you when you have your appointment today.  As you said sometimes we have problems that the doctors can't fix or really treat and it sounds like your PAD fits into that category.

Carolyn, it is nice to see you are able to get out and walk your dog and enjoy a cup of coffee at the coffee shop.  Do you see the same people there or have a group that meets?  Is the hood a reference to your neighborhood?  Those prices are staggering.  Obviously Auckland is a desirable place to live. One year when I was growing up on the farm my folks and ducks and geese and what mess they made of the yard.  They ate every spear of grass from the yard and left many calling cards so you really had to watch where you stepped.  It is interesting that you don't have any predators in your Country.

Amy, I hope you were able to enjoy your lunch out today.  It is a nice treat and a change of pace. The best part is that you don't have to fix it.

Jane, is this your last day of work for this week?

Gloria, incomes have gone up a lot but prices have kept pace.  There were so many houses being built in our area of Moore, Oklahoma that we were not able to sell the house when we left for Alaska but were able to sign it back over to the mortgage company.  I think we had put down only $400 so really didn't lose anything as we lived there for two years.

Good morning.....

JANE, I am happy to read you are resting better, and it probably is due to the ibuprofen you are taking.  I do hope you are eating something with taking them as they can do damage to a empty stomach!  Glad to read your daughter arrived safely back to her home.

JUNE,  I wish you well today when meeting with your doctor.

Thank you, DON, for the link to your pictures with Bubble.  So happy for you both being together again.

CAROLYN, it is good to read the updates in your life.  I know you continue to be so proud of Brooke and Grace.  How are the grandson’s doing?

GLORIA, I do keep in touch with Eugene and Nadia Thomas.  They come to Colorado to visit the son and family that live here in Breckenridge, and we try to get together when we can.  Sadly, the last visit of Eugene’s our schedule just did not allow it.  Nadia is no longer married.   I remember ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER, but I enjoyed reading every word of it again.  Thank you.  I am holding good thoughts for your son and his trees.

LARRY, you did a good deed getting the boxes to the right person, in spite of it almost doing you in! I forgot to mention that I, too, have Spotify Premium through our youngest son and I love it.  I have made a playlist of songs that are special to me and enjoy listening to it daily.

A storm is headed our way, but we are hoping to go to the Denver Zoo today to see our Giraffe Dobby on his FIRST Birthday. He was a surprise birth, and he had a shaky start but has done well and is now a healthy and happy boy.  Two new baby giraffes are due to arrive soon and the Colorado Springs Zoo.  They have a large habitat there and have many giraffes.

AMY, I hope you and hubby have a nice outing today.....enjoy your lunch!

Enjoy your day.....EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

Good afternoon, sun is still shinning and above average temps.

Well, I wrote two post yesterday, and lost both of them, hope I do not make the same mistake as yesterday. I just put in a new avatar. Picture was taken Sunday, when my neighbors took me out to dinner. Ernie ordered a Pink Lady for me, as my husband use to make me one at Christmas and my birthday. the bartender had to get his book out. It was delicious, after dinner he ordered Irish Coffee, now that really topped  the dinner off. Away to end all my 94th BD celebrations.

Jenny, I am still laughing. I guess proof readers, need the help of more proof readers. After all the news we need a good laugh

Larry, our first 3 bedroom house in 1947 cost us $8500. with a 30 year mortgage
, and it was not a development house,it had a Calif. window about 6ft. long and ceiling high.

Carolyn, I live on Eastern Long Island, NY in the Town of Riverhead. when I lived in Southampton on the southshore we use to come here shopping. St that time Riverhead had 2 movie theaters, 3 5 & 10's, 2 department stores (when you shopped in Swezeys, the clerk would asked if you wanted the gift wrapped, that was free) many other stores on Main St. The parking fields are by the water, there is a long River walk, with benches, and a few tables. In the summer all the festivals  are held in the parking lot.

Gloria as I wrote before, we had people move out from the city, because they liked the country, then they complained to the village board, about the noise the farmer made early in the morning, and going slow on the roads with there tractors. Now 30 years later we have two  apartment house going up.  then they moved out here to get away from apartment living.

I'm home from work and...No, LARRY, this isn't my last day for the week.  I still have Friday morning to go.

Thanks for the warning about Ibuprophen, JENNY.  My doctor also mentioned that and I told her I usually have a late nite snack before I go to bed.  She said that would work.

I texted my son on my break to wish him and his Lady Dragon Basketball team good luck in the District playoffs tonight.  He thanked me and asked if I could call him right now.  I did and he needs me to meet Kiran's bus today.  He also asked if I want to go along with Kiran and my DIL to the game.  I do!  I thanked him and he thanked me.

Radioman and Bubble...love the pics!  Keep 'em coming!

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

What a perfect day!!! On the drive up to the vet's we say a pileated woodpecker. he flew right in front of us, a crow with nesting material in his beak and a doe on the way home. We had lunch at wee restaurant and it was delicious.

Cleaned up the yard of land mines from the dogs, filled the wood box and kindling and got another load of wood in. Temp is 48° F right now..

Jane... good luck for the Lady Dragons tonight..

Don, thank you SO much for the delightful pictures of you and our beloved Bubble. I love the two of you  so much……you two are inspiring !!!!!!!!!!!!

Jenny, my sweet friend,I have my note to the Dr. all printed out to hand to her, and then we discuss. She really likes the method we use…..I would forget 90 percent of what I wanted to discuss if I didn't type it out.

I'm just back from my son's Bible class. This is a special treat for me. He is a good teacher….takes questions…he and Dori were in Hawaii for two weeks, so he had some catching up to do. He draws a good crowd , so it is not just a Mothers pride. And I got TWO hugs from him today. And he requested a statement of the Drs. meeting today, and I will comply.

We are having a mild day, 61 for a high, 46 for nighttime. Rain predicted for later in the week. They keep teasing us with rain that does not occur. Boo Hoo.

Time for me to get the body down for lunch, so off I go………..

Good morning to everyone.

Just back from my walk. Today is grocery shopping. I'm off in an hour or so to spend a lot of money. Housing is not the only thing that is super expensive in my Country. This despite Agriculture being 50% of the GDP.

Jenny you asked about the boys. Josh is in Year 2 of business studies at Auckland University. Nik is in his last year of High School and keeps changing his mind about career paths. He is very popular and a bit of a social butterfly.  Liam is doing his first external exams this year and is mid way through his high school learning. He's a representative cricketer. Taine is the Youngest and in his second year of High school. He plays Rugby. After this year he has three more years of High School. There are 5 years of High school. Kids. Start High school at 13 and leave at 18.  The last year of High school is run as a dry run for University. It's hard work and self motivated.

I like hearing about the neighbourhoods where people make their homes. You won't ever bore me.

It's very humid today. A lot of people are saying that they look forward to the cooler weather as a relief from our tropical summer.

Larry I hope you get the phone sorted. Smart phones are so inexpensive now in our stores. I saw one the other day for $59.
I inherit all my devices. Currently I have Cenks old iPhone. Cenk is Vanessa's husband. Vanessa is now a CFO for an energy Corporation. Their Head office is in the Bay of Plenty.  At present she is working there Mon - Fri and coming back to Auckland at weekends. Cenk is still at the Accountancy firm in Auckland. He's looking for a position where he can live in the BOP.  They have bought a rural property up here but it's leased out and Cenk is staying with Graham and his partner. Graham has a very large home so there is plenty of privacy for everyone.

I always buy chocolate with the Grocery shopping so I'm looking forward to that. I don't buy cookies or desserts etc so that's my weekly sugar fest.

I had better run and get ready to go shopping.

Take care everyone and if you have ice and snow be extra careful.

Carolyn

Yea, JANE is going to the Lady Dragons National Playoff game.  I can’t wait to hear all about it....I do hope they won!

CAROLYN, thank you for the update on the boys.....it sounds like they are all doing well.  Also the parents.

GLORIA de, I love your new avatar with you Pink Cadillac cheers pose!  Sounds like your 94TH birthday celebration was very nice for you.

AMY, your outing was sure special for you and your hubby today.  Glad you enjoyed your lunch.

We did not go to the zoo......the storm clouds were moving in quickly.

JUNE, happy your list is made for the doctor visit...a very smart way to do it.  Happy you got a couple of hugs from your Gary today at the Bible study.

Enjoy your evening.

JENNY, it's not NATIONAl.  It's just DISTRICTS but that pretty special and.....

THEY WON!!!

This was the second game in the District playoffs.  There was another game after theirs and on Saturday, they will play the winner of that game for (I think) the District Championship.  If they win that one I think the States are next...or maybe regionals.  I forget what the order is.  But we need good thoughts for Saturday.

I am back from a very good visit with my Dr. Le. Now I know that my problem is my heart, not my my brain. My heart does not send enough blood to the brain, which causes the brain to close down momentarily, which causes a faint. So I have learned a lot. the other main problem is the arteries in the legs that are 90 per cent clogged in various areas. Other than that, I am fine, and still willing to keep dancing as long as I'm here.

I'm tired though. The doctor is so popular with patients. I took up about 20 + minutes of her time, but she taught me a lot and made me happy to learn.

Now it is time to go reheat what was left from my huge lunch downstairs, and get ready and relaxed for a quiet evening.

Carolyn..you lucky girl.....you have a fine family. I am so happy for you.

Jenny.......hugs and love girl.

See you all tomorrow. God willing and the creek don't rise.  ;D

I would imagine they will soon be gone. We are to get snow either today or tomorrow, let's hope it is tomorrow.

Jane WAY TO GO FOR THE TEAM!!!! Let's hope this winning streak continues. Your son is a great coach!!

Better get a move on.

Good morning Everyfriend!  Thank you, AMY for the cheers for the Lady Dragons.  You are right!  My son is a good coach and teaching/coaching should have been his vocation.  He does well with the store but his heart is with the kids.

Todaay is a "do-litlle" day for me.  I'm going to make dog food and pack my suitcase for my trip.  That and picking up Kiran at the bus are the only things on my agenda.  I hope you all have a good day doing whatever suits your fancy!

Good morning everyone. Sunny and 39° to start this first of March. Tomorrow wind and rain, along the coast will get the worst of the wind 50+ mph of it. Not saying what the gusts could be. Once again I am glad I am not living along the coast.

DON  great photos, thank you for the link. You both look very happy.

JENNY  too bad Nadia's marriage did not last. I remember their visit here and they nice people they are.

GLORIA de  there was a dairy farm here in town  that is no longer that. The family still owns all the land there and refuse to sell any of it for house lots. Some people had horses and at times we could see them riding around. City transplants made life miserable for them and some moved away.

JUNE  we are to get to 60° today and will feel wonderful.

CAROLYN  between drought and floods the price of food keeps going up here.

JANE  WONDERFUL! Hope Saturday will be another win for them.

JUNE  glad you are feeling better after talking to your doctor.

AMY   cute greeting for March.

JANE  if I don't get here before you leave for  your trip, safe travel and enjoy the visit.

Hi Everyone.  After a somewhat rainy day yesterday we are seeing a little sun this morning but suppose to be cloudy all day with a fairly high chance of rain tonight.  I will go to coffee this morning after picking up my friend at assisted living.  I told our minister last evening at dinner that I am going to have to give up the Wisdom Class and why.  I just fixed Pat's breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen and that is becoming almost too much.  We got a coupon yesterday from Rudy Tuesdays for a buy one entree and get one of equal of less value for free.  That is too good to pass up so we will be going down late this afternoon for our main meal.  That will be it for today.

Last evening Scott was able to install the new Ring doorbell we got for Christmas and it is really neat.  Anytime someone approaches the house I get a ring on my phone and can see video of who it is.  I can also speak to the person without having to go to the door.  He also got his mother's new cell phone set up and working.

Don, thanks for posting the pictures of you and Bubble.  I enjoyed seeing them.  Hope you are beginning to feel rested up from your trip.

Jenny, I have set up many play lists for the individual artists and then added the same songs to a number of combined play lists when I want to hear a variety of music.  I often click on the Discover box that shows suggestions of music like I have put into my play lists and have found some great singers and other music to add to my play lists.

deAngel, the price of housing has certainly increased over the years.  I remember when I bought a house about 30 years ago for $100,000 and had very large house payments.

Jane, congratulations again to your son and his basketball team.  Glad you got to attend the game and hope you get to see the game on Saturday.

Carolyn, those young folks grow up way to quickly.  It sounds like you have very studious grandchildren.  It sounds like Vanessa has a very find and responsible job.  Does she have to fly back and forth each week.  Do you still suffer from the food allergies or conditions that you used to require you to prepare your food in a special way and stay away from certain foods or ingredients?

Lloyd, always a good feeling to get through with taxes each year.  I am still awaiting some documents with final figures on them before I can fill.

June, I can relate a bit to what your doctor explained.  Sometimes I think I am not getting enough blood to my brain and by the end of the doctor to the rest of my body which causes me to get so tired so quickly.  My cardiologist told me this was what was happening to me.  Fortunately, I haven't yet passed out as you experienced.  I am glad your doctor took the time you needed to answer your questions.

Amy, enjoy your trip to Costco.  I have had their mandarin oranges also and they are good.  I try to get my apples from them as well.

Gloria, I think most towns continue to change.  I know ours is experiencing a growth spurt and more is expected.  Several new housing developments are underway and we have a huge development downtown at the riverfront with a new ballpark to open for the farm club of the baseball giants team.  They are building a new Crown Plaza and apartments and business in the same development.  We are also close to Fort Gordon that is having an influx of new people due to bringing the Army Cyber security function here.

Good Thursday morning.

Thanks, Amy, for missing me.   I have kept up with the messages, but just been busy with a new project I have started.  I know you are a quilter, but I am wondering if you have ever done anything with the Quilted Ornaments.  They are made on a styrofoam ball and you pin little squares of fabric on the ball in different designs.  I had seen them several times and thought it would be a something new to try to maybe get me motivated to keep my hands busy. I have gotten so lazy.  They are very addictive.  You can google "Quilted Ornaments" and lots will come up or  look for them on Pinterest.

June, glad that you got to talk to your doctor and hope you will start feeling better.  You are still an inspiration to us all.

Jane, I know you will have a nice week end with your family.  Hope the weather isn't as bad as they are predicting.

It is a kind of hazy, still morning right now, but supposed to be a bad storm coming up the coast. And, here I was so looking for a nice spring week end.

At least, we will be pushing the clocks forward on the 10th and that always helps to feel like spring is almost here.

I need to get dressed and go downstairs to put some mail out and pay my rent for the month.

Carolyn, happy to see you back with this group again. I remember you from the Fibro group that Sylvia had started a long time ago in the old Senior Net group.     Almost at the very beginning of the old Senior Net.  Sadly, Sylvia passed away a couple years ago.  She and I had become very good friends and corresponded for a long time. I do remember you had a couple Bischon's and we talked about them when I first got one.  I had to give her up when  I after my husband passed away and I moved into a Senior Housing complex.  She went to a nice family who had another little bischon.   I was happy that she went to a good home.

I wish you all a very pleasant day.

Joy

It is so good to read your notes - kudos to Carolyn for returning.

Joy:  I will google your ornament site.  Still need to finish some other projects - we visit a lot here and go anywhere at the drop of a hat so not much gets accomplished.

We will pick our daughter up at the airport in about an hour.  She visits here once a year and of course, often when we are home.  There is some snow on the Tucson mountains and it sure will not last long.  It is a beautiful sky and wonderful winter view this morning.

Coffee is hot and I baked brownies.  Help yourself!

I get confused very easily. This morning when I did my early devotions, my book showed me on the 29th day of Feb. So I accepted that. Then I came to my computer, to find we are celebrating March 1st. Oh, Well…….my brain still adjusts even though it gets easily confused. :D

The Vampire visited me this morning and withdrew four vials of my blood. I asked the nurse how long it takes to replace that blood…her reply was three days. So I will drink some extra water to help it along.

The computer tells me we are to have rain on Friday and Saturday…I HOPE !! Perhaps I should gather some feathers and a drum and go out there and do a Rain Dance, like the Indians might do. Maybe not….have to build up that blood supply first.

Amy, have a good shopping trip. They serve a lot of canned mandarin oranges here at Rowntree, and I like them. so tender, but they do use a lot of sugar in the syrup. My son is a member of Costco and does a lot of shopping there.

Janie, I can't picture you having a "very little to do" type of day. How long are you going to be away from us ? I miss you already. Are you taking the four legged family members with you ?

Gloria I searched for Jenny's letter when you wrote of Nadia's divorce, but I could not find it. It seems the last time I heard any thing from that family, Nadia was engaged. Then I heard that her mother had died, and nothing since then. They were such a nice, close, family. I'm so glad your weather is warming up. I know you like to be out walking each day when the weather permits. We are having choir practice today…getting ready for an Easter performance,so I will be getting out for that, even though my body wants to stay home…close to the bed.  As I read the prayer you printed, I prayed it with our Bis/Joan in mind. How I miss that inspiring lady.

Larry, I keep thinking I should    quit Choir too, as you are planning to quit your Wisdom class. I get weak and tired so quickly now…just walking to the kitchen makes me short of breath. I know the body must have some exercise, but at the same time, if it tires so easily, it needs rest too.  We are caught between a rock and a hard place.

It's going on ten o'clock and I am still in my night gown, so I have to close down and move these bones around. See y'all later. June

JUNE, when I have a "do-little" day, it just means that there's nothing I really HAVE to do on that particular day.  I started off today making doggie food to take with me tomorrow to my sister's and along with that, I straightened up the kitchen and started to gather the other things I need for the doggies to travel.  As you may have gathered from what I said, YES, I do take them with me.  My sister and I have always integrated our doggies and we love each others pets like our own.  She has a Westie that gets along fine with my two.

Also, I won't be incommunicado while I'm gone.  I'm taking my Ipad and I can read what you are up to and tell you what I'm up to.

The other major thing I've done today didn't involve much physical activity but it did involve a lot of mental activity.  I paid my bills and balanced my accounts.  That's a real chore for me!

Now I'm going through the papers on my desk to see if there's anything I missed and then at 4 I'll go pick up TLH.  She usually spends some time on the computer right after she gets here so I'll finish up my kitchen chores until she's ready for action!

I guess, if I wanted to be technical, it wasn't really a "do-little day" after all!  Maybe I'll go catch a few zzzs before I get Kiran!

Bubble, thank you for your help.

We had a good day, got the repeats of meds then headed onto the city. Picked up clementine's but when we opened them some were rotting. I phoned down to tell them to check them and she said to put them in the freezer and bring them back!! Can't get much nicer service than that as I was not going to drive the distance again just for a bag of oranges. We have to go back on Tue for the cardio appointment so that will be soon enough!.

The weather is awesome despite the weather guessers are saying we are in for a terrible snow storm . On the way to the city we knew that Pepe Le Peewww was out as he left his calling card. The man at the gas station said they have robins there so I would imagine in a couple of weeks we may have them also. I heard a goose honking this morning and when we left here we saw him on the open water near by. Hope he finds enough to eat!

Jane have a great time at your sis's, are you taking her any mustard?

AMY, I'm taking her a jar of mustard AND the recipe (if you don't mind) and a jar of mustard for my niece also.  I forgot to tell you that I took a wire whip to Cheri's mustard and it was fine.  I told her that and she said she'd try it.

Have to tell you all, I'm following the dr.s orders and taking my two Ibuprophen before going to bed and I am sleeping better.  It's amazing how much better the day goes when I feel rested.

I'm going to do it for two weeks and then stop for a week and see how I feel.  I really don't want to become dependent but I need the sleep.

AMY, there are geese on the pond over there.  I heard them first and then I saw them on the pond and then I saw them overhead.  I hope they're not premature!  But I sure am glad to see them!

Janie, here is another GO TEAM for the girls (& your son).  I am so tempted to try your sleep cure but I take aspirin & don't think my tummy would approve of that much (even with a snack).

This old gal is tired tonight, been working at building up steam for the trip to the mountains with my sons.  Lots to do before then.

Gloria, I do enjoy all the goodies you & others are providing...

Joy, I Googled your ornaments & they are so neat!  My daughter has given me some hand made ornaments (she buys) and the "sort of" quilted Christmas stockings for the cats..... I'm hoping now that she is retired she will get interested in creating things for her grands.... she has 5 already.  Hand made gifts are SO much better!

Cats are all fed & sleeping so I'm going to head to the bed, knowing I'll get calls from one or more of my kids before they go to sleep. I appreciate they call and know this is the only time of day the boys have to themselves so wouldn't dream of telling them to call earlier.  Now that my daughter is retired she often calls a couple times per day...... during the day, she keeps so busy.

I have read all the latest messages, and enjoyed the chatter from you dear loving friends...... make that family, as that is how I feel about all of us. Since I wrote this morning, I have had a rather quiet day. Retired from our Choir and intend to retire from the Food Commitee, and not get involved with anything more that I have to be counted on as an active member. It is time. Hopefully I will get some very neglected personal letters answered in my quiet time. I already have written to my four "kids". Two sons and their wives. Just a chit-chat letter, but I enjoyed it.

Now it is time to fix a light supper and get ready for a quiet time with my bed and book.

See you all tomorrow. Till then God be with you. I Love you all. June[/s]

I'm in a different time zone, so here as I type this, it's Friday 4.32pm.

How nice to see Joy and Carol posting. It's lovely that I know most of you because of Senior net and the early days of this website.

It's autumnal here. Still warm but quite a bit cooler than last month. When the winds are high the leaves are falling from the elms.

June you don't sound a bit confused. That brain of yours seems as sharp as ever.

Lloyd I find things like kneeling to clean the floor almost impossible now. I can get down but it's difficult to get up again. I visualise myself stranded sometimes. Mopping just isn't as efficient. I could get a cleaner in but I'm resisting this for now.

I still have to keep on my diet. After 15 years it's second nature. Grace has been diagnosed a few years ago with celiac disease so she and I eat the same foods. Nicky pretty much keeps their home gluten free for Grace. Grace and I are very good gluten free bakers. Grace made chocolate lamingtons last night and brought me one over for dessert.

It rained on our walk today. The dog and I both wore our raincoats. Called into the cafe on the way home. Other patrons made a fuss of ChiChi and she was very unwilling to leave for home. She dug her toes in and made everyone laugh.

The wind has come up this afternoon and the weather doesn't look promising for the weekend.

I'm procrastinating about what to make for dinner. I feel lazy. I may settle for an omelette. ( ham cheese and mushroom)

Take care everyone. You're probably all snug in bed as I post this.

THE FIFTH SET

READ SLOWLY!

You know ... Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all.   I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is.... The 5th set of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast?   Where did the years go and where did my youth go?

I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only in the first set and the end of the match was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now.   Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change....Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day!  And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so...now I enter into this last set of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!!   But, at least I know, that though I made it to the fifth set, and I'm not sure how long it will last.. I could get lucky and take this match into overtime . . . . but this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over..   A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets.  There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.

It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in the fifth set yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think.  So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly!  Don't put things off too long!!  Life goes by quickly.  So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you're in the fifth set or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life....so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a gift to you.  The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after.  Make it a fantastic one.  LIVE IT WELL!   ENJOY TODAY!  DO SOMETHING FUN!  BE HAPPY!  HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver."

LASTLY, CONSIDER THIS:

~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!

~Going out is good. Coming home is better!

~You forget names...But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!!

~You realize you're never going to get any better at anything like tennis....you just want to keep the ball in play a little longer.

~The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore, but you really don't care that you aren't as interested.

~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed.   It's called "pre-sleep".

~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..

~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"....???

~You notice everything they sell in stores that’s your size … doesn’t fit anymore"?

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.

~You have several sizes of clothes in your closet....most of which you will never wear.

~~~But Old is good in some things:  Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!"  It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter!  That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN; YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS
