Phyllis: got a full blown cackle out of me, thank you very much!

Amy,, I love the clip from the Almanack, I don't think to buy one every year but save them to re-read over & over, I swear somebody adds to it over time!

Jane, my father was like yours, few words but when he said something every head turned his direction to hear what he had to say. My mother was a walking cliche'. My sister tried to talk me into making a list of her sayings but I couldn't ... spent too much time trying to remember because they just came out of her mouth when called for! Had to be there.

Gotta get a move on.

A Good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

My surgery was yesterday and overall I am doing good.....unfortunately there was too much scar tissue around the Axillary nerve so they were unable to proceed with the transplant 😩  I am very disappointed and have a little pity party now and then but know that I at least had the opportunity to try to fix it, and it was not meant to be. I am sad that Bob will have to continue to help me every day to meet my needs, but it is what it is😩. The best thing I can say is that my surgeon did his best to accomplish this but knew when to call it off so I would not loose any of the ability that I currently have.  I could tell that he was equally disappointed that he had to tell me this news as I was to hear it😩😩

Now I am wondering IF that full moon had something to do with this outcome? 🤪. I loved your stories AMY, and I will be giving more thought the moon in general before I proceed ‼️🤪🤪🤪

I thank those of you who have given me your total support....through out all of my trials in life....it means the world to me that our friendship on here can help so much.  I wish there were a way for you to transport over the net some of the delicious food you make...I could really go for that potato soup and the fresh homemade bread you are making AMY.  I sure hope your pine trees survive the heavy ice and will not break.  We had so many big branches broken off by our last heavy snow.  So sad.

I wish you all a good day and I thank you for sharing your day to day lives with me.....

I'm so sorry, Jenny.  I had hoped, too, that you could have a better outcome.  Your Bob helps you because he loves you.  How many times through the years have you helped him?

Jenny, I am so very sorry about your shoulder.  I agree with Phyllis that your Bob will lovingly help you and I am confident that you'll be able to adjust to the "new normal" with time.

All of the fresh bread sounds delicious! I made "quick breads" but never had the patience to make yeast breads.  (Of course, I never had the patience or desire to do the kind of cooking that Amy, Shirley and JaneS do at all. :))

Patricia, was it here that I read you no longer have a slow cooker or crock pot?  Have meant to mention that I got a 1.5 quart slow cooker that's just the right size for "doing something" with a package of pork chops or chicken breasts or ground beef and then package and freeze in individual servings.

It amazes me that both sons are really good cooks because the only things I taught them to make were frozen Fish Sticks/boxed Macaroni and Cheese and my Mother's "Quick Spaghetti" (ground beef/a can of Spaghetti/a can of tomato sauce/a package of dry Spaghetti Mix).  #1 son loves to try new recipes and bake bread.  #3 son makes up his own recipes.

Slow Days around here.  I'm basically caught up with Domestic Duties and desk work.  Spending most of my time reading e-books of various types and playing various kinds of Solitaire on my Tablet.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Wonderful Weekend.  Stay warm and stay well.  :smitten:

Callie, yes, I did get rid of my microwave, slow cooker, and many other cooking devices that I didn't or no longer use. I do have a large Convection/toaster oven that I might also be going to donate. I no longer meal prep, and so much of what I formally used was now excess.

I looked at the smaller slow cookers, but since I'm home to cook many of my meals, I felt buying one wasn't a good idea.

I do have an enamel-coated cast iron six-quart dutch oven, and a large casserole dish, both from Lodge, and I also have some size graduated cast iron cookware that I don't use but keep thinking I might in the future. I have a six-quart stainless steel stock pot and several 7 to ten-inch cast iron or Teflon fry pans.

However, an oversized manual wok and my coffee press get the most daily use.

JaneS

Soup's On!  The Meatball soup is just waiting to be eaten.  I'm going to be eating and serving during "Mannix" if anyone wants to drop in and joing me.  It smells tantalizing!  AMY, I'll let you know as soon as I eat some!

JENNY, I'm so sorry to hear your news but you do have a good guy in BOB.  He just seems like he's ready to be there for you.

I've got to get finished cleaning up and kind of watch the canner.  I canned the extra soup so I have 8 pints for later but the canner is waiting to cool off enough to get them out!

CALLIE, isn't it strange what our kids can do that we'd never have been able to handle?  I have 3 accountants out of 4 kids and math was my "Holy Horror" when I was growing up!  I still don't lie it!  But I'm grateful that my oldest daughter has decided to be my personal accountant.  I even have her on my bank account!  And my son runs a business that he inherited from his father and he improved the finances and is doing better than his father ever did!  The other daughter is the one in Okla. who now works from home.  When they were moving there from Texas, she told her boss she would either have to quit or start working his accounts from home.  His answer, "I don't care where you work from! I'm NEVER letting you go!"

O think I better go check out the canner.  It's probably time to remove the lid and take out the jars.  I'll be watching for you to show up for dinner at 6!

Here to say Sweet Dreams & God Bless, but first a hug to you, Jenny, for the disappointing news. I've met your Bob and know you make a complete team and will do for each other till your days end, know the rest of the family will be there when needed.

Gonna keep this short tonight so wishing everyone a great day tomorrow, sleep tight & don't let the bed bugs bite....   :smitten:

The soup was great and it was nice having company for supper!  I hope you all enjoyed your share.  Now I'm heading for the haystack.  I'm beat right down to my socks!  Good night and sleep tight!  Don't let the bedbugs bite!

Good morning...

Now we are getting back into seasonal weather with a temp of 20°F.

Will do a delivery this morning then home to do laundry with hopes of putting it on the line. SIL was to get her lifeline set up for home safety, I hope she won't need to use it but it is a God send as she has fallen twice now.

Jenny, I am sorry that your news was not what you wanted to hear.  You are so lucky to have Bob by your side and you know he doesn't mind filling in. No difference if the shoe was on the other foot as you would/will help him.

Shirley and Rick , glad you liked the "quote" many old time saying still hold true today.

Callie, my son loves to cook and he is amazing at it. They now make their own bacon in the smoker and won't buy bologna as the one they make is better!

Jane, you did a great job on the soup....enjoyed someone else making it!Better get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but not really "attem" yet.  I'm going to take today as it comes.  I think I wore myself out the last few days and I'm just going to work on going through the Christmas decorations and packing away the ones I need to save and getting rid of the ones I don't need to save.  Some of them will go to family members but I've a feeling they won't want a lot of them!

Frankie doesn't work until 10 this morning so Cooper will be a bit late.  And he'll have had his breakfast already when he gets here.  I've a feeling he'll be ready for a walk by that time!

I've had a chirping noise for about 2 weeks now and this morning I found it.  It's one of my smoke alarms and it needs a new battery.  I managed to figure out how to open it and how to get the old battery out but I can't get the new one back in.  I guess that'll be one of my projects for today.  I might have to prevail on my good neighbor for help with this one!

AMY, I have a lot of celery left over from the soup and the discussion of cooked celery started by RICK prompted me to look up "cooked celery".  I found a recipe for "Fried Celery" that I'm thinking of trying.  I really don't like plain, raw celery and I usually end up tossing some when I buy it for a recipe.  And since the surgery in my cheek, I really have an excuse for not eating it.  I simply can't chew it any more.  So, I'm going to try frying some!  Has anyone ever done that?  And if you did, was it good?

Now I'm off to get my day started.  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

JaneS, --- Soda Shop and Bait & Tackle are so similar that in my opinion they should be combined (and maybe a new name to keep everyone happy) so that posts are not missed. We are shrinking severely and too many places to post makes it look like no one is here.

Rick, I do think that's a good idea, to combine the two. I was also wondering if there is a way to identify some of us that changed names when we crashed a few years ago, by adding the old name under our avatar. We had a lot of Shirleys when I first ajoined & after trying a few others I settled on my mother's nickname (Tisie) & was pretty sure no other like it. Not sure if any remembers Tisie, but that used to be ME.  I catch a name now & then that rings a bell & think, "I didn't know that's who that was!"  Oh, by the way, I don't think I remember how to get in & add that old name. :-[  ;D

RAMMEL

Combining and/or changing Discussion names would no doubt involve Admin work.  But you (each individual) can put and/or change the things under your avatar.  Off hand I don't recall the procedure, but if anyone needs it I'm sure one of us would help (including me).
And YES, I do remember Tisie, and I think I like it better than Shirley (for a couple of reasons).

I like coming into Soda Shoppe...reminds me of times past. Remember when you could get a milk shake full of flavour, bubbles and so cold on a hot summers day? I meet many friend here Gloria, Joan,Hal, Larry, Joy Jeanne Lee,Linedancer and  our sweetheart June Drebek.  I think it is because of the holdiays that post are slow...but they will pick up. In the mean time we can ask others to join.

I believe that combining and changing formats would lose more members as others may not want to post in a combined forum. I also believe wholesale deletion of past posts and members passed on would lose more of what brings those posting now.

I also believe that you snuck in before me Amy or I would have simply posted a "What she said," comment.  :)

Thanks, Rick, for remembering & I will think about adding when I figure how.

EDIT: Both good points, Patricia & Amy, and I'm okay with whatever helps.

For right now I ran across something I copied quite a while ago, do not recall from who/whom (big deal about that long ago & don't recall that verdict, either), even if I copied from here or got e-mail, but this lady has been my hero ever since. She comes from the same area of France my gr-Grandmother did so maybe I am ;)  related to her.
**************

Jeanne Louise Calment had the longest confirmed human lifespan on record: 122 years and 164 days. It seems that fate strongly approved of the way Madame Calment lived her life. She  was born in Arles, France, on February 21, 1875. (My grandmother was born in New Orleans in 1871).  When the Eiffel Tower was built, she was 14 year old. It was at this time that she met Vincent van Gogh. "He was dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable," she recalled in an interview given in 1988.

When she was 85, she took up fencing, and she was still riding on her bike when she reached 100. At the age of 114, she starred in a film about her life; at age 115 she had an operation  on her hip, and at age 117 she gave up smoking, having started at the age of 21 in 1896. Apparently, she didn't give it up for health reasons, but because she didn't like having to ask someone to help her light a cigarette once she was nearly blind.

In 1965, Jeanne was 90 years old and had no heirs. She signed a deal to sell her apartment to a 47-year-old lawyer called André-François Raffray. He agreed to pay her a monthly sum  of 2,500 francs on the condition that he would inherit her apartment after she died. However, Raffray not only ended up paying Jeanne for 30 years, but died before she did at the age of 77. His widow was legally obliged to continue paying Madam Calment until  the end of her days.

Jeanne retained sharp mental faculties. When she was asked on her 120th birthday what kind of future she expected to have, she replied, "A very short one."
