Happy New Years to you..

Good morning..

Kyle had a rough night so I am sure there will be cat naps today. Good job this is a day of rest.

The snow has taken a beating for all the rain we have had in the past few days. The township had gone around to daylight the corners of the roads. One had to really poke their nose out and hope no oncoming vehicle would wipe it for them.

Bubble, thank you for the new start. Aging is a gift that many don't get to enjoy.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Recipe For A Happy New Year

Take 12 fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly cleansed from all old memories of bitterness, hate, and jealousy.

Cut these months into 30 or 31 equal parts.
(This batch will keep for one year. Do not attempt to make more than one batch at a time-many people spoil the entire lot in this way.)

Prepare one day at a time as follows:

Into each day, put 12 parts of faith,
11 parts of patience,
10 parts of courage,
9 parts of work
(some people omit this ingredient and spoil the flavor of the rest),
8 parts of hope,
7 parts of fidelity,
6 parts of open-mindedness,
5 parts of kindness,
4 parts of rest
( leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad, "don't do it" ),
3 parts of prayer,
2 parts of meditation,
And 1 well-selected resolution.

If you have no conscientious scruples,
Add a teaspoonful of good spirits,
A dash of fun,
A pinch of folly,
A sprinkling of play,
And a heaping cupful of good humor.

Pour love liberally into the whole,
And mix with strength.
Cook thoroughly in a warming heat.
Garnish with a few smiles and a sprig of joy;
Then serve with quietness,
Unselfishness,
And cheerfulness.

A Happy New Year is a certainty.

Hello Everyfriend!  It's a beautiful day in Central Pennsylvania today.  When Cooper and I took our second walk of the day, I didn't even wear a coat.  And I saw other people out without coats!  I'd be happy to keep this weather but we still have the rest of January and then February to get through the winter.  Anything could happen!

Courtney is on her way home to West Chester, PA and is probably about half way there.  We spent some time going through my Christmas decorations...the ones I haven't used in the past two years.  She packed up some of them to take home with her and I'm happy she did that.  One of the things she took is a lighted ceramic 16 inch tall Christmas tree that I made many years ago.  She absolutely loved it and I'm happy that someone in the family has it and it can go on taking its place at Christmas!  We also found some extra lights for it and a Santa and Mrs. Santa salt and pepper shaker that she liked!

AMY The local Grocery Chain had hamburger on sale on Saturday.  It was buy 2 and get one free.  Courtney took me over to get some and I spent time today browning it and getting it ready to can.  Tomorrow will be canning day!  Thanks for that idea.  Now chili or soup or a casserole with browned hamburger in it will be a quickie meal!  And I saved a bundle on the burger!

The only thing I have planned for the rest of the day is to throw a load of laundry in the washer and get out the canning stuff so I have no excuse not to do it tomorrow.  I wish you all a pleasant rest of the day.

BUBBLE, I really love your Happy New Year Recipe!  Wouldn't it be great if EVERYONE adopted it?

I am sitting here listening to the "new" rooster..tis funny to hear him trying to crow. I do know that I am not naming him like I did Horacio the last rooster.

Quiet day here..no hustle and bustle just quiet. We had coffee out with the neighbours then home to relax.

Jane, you can add a tsp of beef broth powder to your hamburg. I did some of them with beef broth and others just plain for the furkids. You got a really good deal on the hamburg!!! Can't remember if I sent you the recipe for meatball bean soup or not but if so exchange the spaghetti out and put barley in it and you can can that too. Great to have on hand for a quick meal.

Been in & out many times today but had what I would call "fractured" time.... phone calls & texts that had me waiting for someone to come by or "call later".  I did get outside to do my monthly RV start the engine & let it run until temp gauge said warm (so condensation would dry on tail pipes), start the generator & let it run, put the slide out & awning out to air any moisture in it, then sort a little & bring a few things in. I really hate to part with it but one of these days I will advertise. It has 4 new tires & 2 front only made one trip to central CO & one trip to MO so not 2,000 miles on them, full tank of gas, full propane & new roof... a bargain...haha, sold myself!  ::)

Not sure what the high was but warm, even rolled the little cage thing to pick up the sweet gum balls from driveway to side door. Filled twice & that was enough, ran out of steam and even ran the portable concentrator for oxygen to empty so kinda light headed when I started in. Andy came by later & put food out for any of the kitties that come by and the opossum that shows up about 10:00 every night. Poor thing can't help being ugly~

Had some red winged blackbirds show up & saw a couple that may be mixed breed. Had back & body more like a starling but head & spots of red on wing/shoulders like the rest of them. I thought they migrated south, I've seen huge flocks of them gather in the fall & tried to capture how they fly & turn in formation so all those red spots on wings show up at the same time. Not fast enough with the camera!  Anyway, will see if I can get a better shot of the strange one tomorrow to send Bubble, could be common for this time of year or like a rare animal that is all white. Have another couple pairs of birds, very tiny, that I've never seen before around here. Dart around the feeder so fast I have not gotten any photos of them at all. They are the size of a Junco but distinct black & white markings. Need to clean the window inside & out, too!

So here we are, the end of day 1 of 2023. I need to write some thank you notes & start getting ready for bed, no nap today & only 5 hours & few min of sleep last night. We are supposed to have warmer than normal weather off & on this week, too bad we can't order & plan ahead~~  Take what we get & be happy, huh?

Bubble, you outdid yourself with the great text & graphics!  Thank you so much for all the time you spend keeping us cleaned up in here and things to think about!

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless us Everyone!  Love y'all.........Shirley/Tisie

Hello Everyfriend!  Cooper got picked up and Courtney got safely home!  I have enough beef cooked and ready to can tomorrow to make a canner full. And, no AMY you did not give me the recipe for Meatball bean soup and I already decided to use beef broth in the canned hamburger.  I'll be busy first thing in the morning but I still have some hamburger so could make some of that soup to can...Hint! Hint! Hint!

SHIRLEY, you're so good to the animals around your house!

I slept through the last half of Mannix tonight.  When I rested my head on the sofa pillow, I was pretty sure Mannix was a goner!  Now I'm off to the haystack.  Cooper won't be her until almost 10 tomorrow and I want to at least have the hamburger in the canner when he gets here.  And maybe some of AMY's soup cooking...HINT!  HINT!

Our temps made it to the high 40s today and tomorrow they're supposed to get to the high 50 and then the day after that they're going to the mid 60s.  One could only wish it was Spring on the way but I'm sure we'll have a cold rest of January and then BRR, Februrary!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Sleep was holding me down in bed and I let it!!

Taking garbage away today..and work around home. I see the neighbour's pine tree got topped from all the heavy snow and then wind :( There were a lot of trees downed in this past storm.

Coming home from town yesterday I had to break for a reynard, he was going to cross in front then doubled back and into the neighbours yard. We wondered if he was one of the kits that was born across the road???

Jane, check your email..enjoy!!

Better booogie..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I I recall French II correctly, a Renard is a fox!  Am I right?  I guess I could just go look it up but I sat down here to rest for the first time today.

I have 8 pints of Hamburger finished and another 7 quarts in the canner to be finished in about a half hour.  I also have enough hamburger in the freezer to make AMY's meatball soup.  If Cathy chooses to go to Wengers tomorrow, the soup will be made on Wednesday.  If she doesn't choose tomorrow....there'll be soup for supper tomorrow!

Tonight, I'm too tired to think about it.  Cooper and I will have to get in one more walk and he's a bugger about where we go and how long we stay out!

I guess everyfriend is busy today.  Not much action in here.  I hope you are all having a good day!

Jane, that is a lot of work!!You will enjoy the fruits of your labour for a long time. Between the hamburg, chicken beef ,I do soup and baked beans. Then if I need something quick it is available. Yes, reynard is a fox, I had left out the "y" in my hast this morning.. He looked healthy, not scruffy.

We were lucky enough to see the eagle this morning, highlight of my day going to the dump. :2funny:

Can't believe I did it, x'd out of what I was looking at AGAIN & lost the 2nd post I was working on.  One more try & will go take a nap instead!

Was going on about also missing the Rose Bowl Parade with you, Rick, and back long ago how I helped with floats in high school so loved when during the parade they would show some of the details when making different floats. I just forgot, day lost!

It's misty/foggy but I met son, Andy & his wife & their 2 grands at McDonald's for lunch. The parents are off to Belize for a week.  Another gr-son & wife are heading that way in a couple weeks to spend a week looking around. Daughter is going to come take care of their 3 kids for the week. How times have changed!!!

It is foggy & cloudy today, feels like spring so hope we don't lose a lot of shrubs this year like other times when we get so warm mid-winter they sprout & feeze back. It isn't windy, either.

I also Googled what the reynard was to be sure. Dad & Mom heard a lot of the French & German words growing up since most of their area families were first or second generation immigrants & many had parents or gr-parents that knew very little English.

Nap time!  Y'all behave!

I forgot about the Rose Parade.  When there's no one around to remind me about stuff like that, I just plain forget.  I'll go back and watch PHYLLIS's post when I have a chance.  Right now, I'm tired right down to my shoe laces and that's bad because I don't have any shoes on!

All the jars are sealed and ready to be washed, labeled and put on the shelf tomorrow morning.  Frankie called and asked if Cooper could spend the night so I'll have a bedfellow tonight.  Boy is he ever a snuggler, too!  I love it when he stays over.  I don't miss my doggies so much!

Also, Cathy texted and said she's planning to go to Wenger's tomorrow morning so I won't be making the soup until Wednesday.  Also, I have to remember to call my sister tomorrow.  It's her birthday and she's going to be 89!  I can hardly believe it!  And she's still living alone and looking after herself.  My niece and two grandnieces look in on her occasionally and make sure she has everything she needs.  And my nephew who lives a bit farther away, makes regular trips up there!  But she's basically on her own!  And she still has a garden and cans stuff!

And now I'm going to wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

AMY, one more thing we have in common...a sister with a birthday right at the beginning of January!  I wonder what else there is!

I'm off to the showers and to get dressed just in case it's not as bad out there as they're saying.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Here I am...........Been a long day so ready for bed now! Having kind of a down day, it is Jan.3, this day back in the last year of WWII my pet chicken, Maggie, died. My aunt gave her to me the first trip we made to their house when the war started. I sat out by the big cage that held the feed corn & rubbed corn off the cob so the chickens would hang out with me. The other kids were older, girls whispering in the upstairs, boys out in the barn, Dad & Uncle George checking on the mules so they could talk privately & Mother, Aunt Anne & all the older women were in the big kitchen cooking. The fireplace was big enough to stand up in, big old stone house and everyone worried about the war and who would have to go.

I had blisters on my fingers from the corn & Aunt Anne thought they deserved a pet to take home. Maggie rode in my doll buggy & followed me everywhere, even to school. She had the run of the neighborhood so would come around the front of the house where the windows were low enough she could get Mother's attention by jumping on them... she walked through the house talking to Mom, hop in the bushel basket to lay her egg & go on out the door.

My youngest brother skipped school this day to comfort me, we made a plaster of paris little plaque with her name in alphabet soup letters & he used our sister's nail polish to paint the name red. All was done with few tears since the war going on was so scary with people dying, not a pet chicken. More than 80 years since the war started, I was 6, and she died before it was over when I was 10, good memories and bad.

And now I lay me down to sleep..........God Bless and sweet dreams. Love y'all. Shirley

We had a good day yesterday, lunch with family at Red Lobster when I tucked away coconut shrimp. Today  is catch up day and making turkey soup.

Shirley, loved your story on Maggie......great memories for sure to have.

Jane, I was so tired from town I flopped till bed time then hit it early.Didn't want much supper so it was an easy one to day.

Better get at it.

Well! There you are...at least some of you!  Good Morning to you and whoever else shows up today!  We have our second foggy, rainy day in a row.  Not a good couple days for this time of year.  Yesterday, I did some cooking and today I'm doing laundry.

I made bread pudding yesterday for the first time in YEARS and it turned out pretty good.  I had it for breakfast and for my "not-quite" midnight snack!  Then I made a tater tot casserole for supper because I thought Frankie was going to be here and she just came by and picked up Cooper and didn't stay to eat!

SHIRLEY, I have some special memories for Jan. 3 too.  I think mine might be happier than yours are.  It's my sister's birthday and she's still hanging in there.  I called her and sang "Happy Birthday" to her and then we talked for more than an hour!  Since neither of us drive any more we only get to see each other when someone can drop one of us off at the other one's house.  I think when Christy comes up from Maryland later this month I'll ride back with her and she can leave me at Margie's house.  I'm sure Cathy or Philip will come get me.  She's 89!  And she still lives alone and takes care of herself!  I bet my mother is "thumbs-upping" us daily!  And my dad's just sitting there with an "I always knew it" look on his face!

The washer just went into the spin cycle so I better get going and throw this load in the dryer and another one in the washer.  I don't know if Cathy will be heading to Wenger's today or not.  If she does, I'm hitting the trail with her.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Shirley - this one is for you.  How are your beavers doing?

Beavers are taking over the Alaskan tundra, completely transforming its waterways, and accelerating climate change in the Arctic.

The changes are so sudden and drastic that they're clearly visible from space.

As the Arctic tundra warms, woody plants are growing along its rivers and streams, creating perfect habitats for beavers.

As the furry rodents move into these waterways, they make themselves at home by doing what they do best: chewing and carrying wood to build dams, and clogging rapid rivers and streams to make lush ponds.

A good Wednesday HELLO from one of the very guilty missing posters😩😩

I have read every one of the posts and thank all of you for checking in and sharing your day's activities with us. I hope to do better in the future. It certainly isn't because I do not think about you ALL and hope you are doing well‼️

Last Friday I met with the oncologist who ran all of the blood work on me to see what my blood issues might be?  5
The wonderful news I got was what I was praying for, and I got it🙏🙏🙏. He questioned why I had the original bad report as I did, but he assured me that I am just fine and to move on knowing I do not have any concerns about having blood cancer‼️

Yesterday I met with my cardiologist and she assured me that I am on the right track with improving my health by starting this CPAP therapy and my weight loss and for me to continue to keep up the good work and I do not have to see her for 2 months‼️

As you can tell my days have been pretty much associated with preparing for my surgery tomorrow.  At this time tomorrow I will be being prepped for a 1 PM surgery.  I have to admit my anxiety is high, but I know I have to do this with hopes of a good outcome.  Sadly, it isn't going to be instant gratification.....not many surgeries are😩🤪 I have been doing research on this and the outcome will take month to show any improvement if there is going to be.  All I can do is pray that I will be one of the lucky ones that will have success🙏🙏 My incision is going to be quite large....I don't worry about adding more "railroad tracks" to this shoulder as there are already two good sized ones, but getting this one healed and the limitations of what I can do while it is.  Sadly my only good form of exercise is swimming and that of course is out😩 FORGIVE me for rattling on about this....I think it is meant to console myself🤪🤪🤪

I wish you all a wonderful day and the best wishes for health and happiness in 2023.

Jenny

Not sure if beavers are a good thing or bad, Bubble, but I've enjoyed looking for them and watching how different they react to my being part of their territory.  Sadly I don't get down to the water edge often anymore, only a couple times in the last month or so. I will Google & see what is said about them making a difference in Alaska. Thanks!

Glad you girls, Amy & Jane, enjoyed my tale of Maggie. I came for hugs & found 'em.

So far I've eaten a couple times, fed Tiger a couple times & would love to go back for a nap but have floors to clean before my youngest comes for his weekly visit.  I did clean out the bathroom vanity drain, YUCK!  My daughter brought me the extra strong vinegar & big boxes of baking soda... that vinegar is dangerous compared with normal stuff.  Got the job done & also got the bank set up to take care of all that next week when my daughter is back in town. That's all my brain can handle today! Have a great day!

Oops, you snuck in, Jenny! Saying extra prayers your surgery works & sounds like health is great!  This house would have been perfect for you, original owner put in a small inground pool & with a group of doctors helped a local guy design a cover to swim all winter. The lady across the street loved it because when the owners were out of town she checked out the pool nearly every day to make sure the pool service was doing their job. They had pots of flowers every few feed around the inside & kept the water heater running full time, a door at each end (& they had no worrys about paying for all that service.)

Since we bought the house in spite of the pool Cas couldn't wait to get rid of the cover (they had the cover taken down summer months)so he could use that storage area for things HE was interested in. The cover snapped together like a WWII quonset hut, was a fiberglass that could stand KS winds & hail (I went to the manufacturer for a brochure to sell it) sold to a man for a green house.

This will be a shorty because I can't keep my eyes open or my mouth shut!  I'm ready for the haystack!

JENNY, I'll be praying for your surgery and for your recovery!  I hope this works and you will have better use of that arm!

Shirley, you've been a busy gal!  Still doing the cleaning while you carry that thing all over the house with you!  You just don't give up!

PATRICIA, I loved all the interesting info about Alaska!  I sure wish I didn't have to give up on ever getting there!  It's the only state that I haven't visited...darn it!

I got the laundry all done today, made a shopping trip to Wenger's and started putting the Christmas stuff away.  Some of what I put away was the coconut cups that I make extra for myself.  Does that count?

Frankie did show up and Cooper got his bath and she was here just in time to help me find something on the computer and send it to my sister.  But she didn't stay for supper!  Cooper did but Frankie didn't.

Now I'm heading for the haystack so I can get back to the point where my eyes will stay open and my mouth will stay shut.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

So far I think we have missed the freezing rain! We did get a power hicup in the night but didn't lose power. Making turkey soup today and bread/buns , throwing on a load of washing to get it out of the way.

Patricia, loved the information on Fairbanks, I want to do them all!! We did drive into Skagway from the Yukon but that is as far as we got.

Jenny, prayers that surgery goes well and it will be your last one.

Jane, talked with my sis last night and asked how her birthday went and she got what she wanted for a meal..Shepherd's pie! I like that too!

Lloyd, you may get in a few cat naps today..

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's almost time for Cooper's arrival so I better get myself moving.  I'm on "Slow Start" this morning.  I've had breakfast and made frest coffee.  The bed is made but I'm not dressed and Cooper will want a walk right away!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Nearly 7:30am & very dark out yet. I'm going to make a trip to the store today ... one way or another! I've had 2 of my kids bring me celery and is has a "whang" to it. Each made an effort to pick fresh but let the people in that department convince them "that little bit of dirt will wash off" when all they do is trim off the ends to look fresh cut. That musty or moldy odor creeps on up the stalk & never goes away. I like to cut a stalk or two into bite sizes, tad of water in bottom of the bowl & pop it in the frig when I'm not going to be in the kitchen for a while, keeps it nice & crunchy. Basically no calories but most of all, doesn't need salt to taste good so handy snack even better than popcorn! You really can smell the difference in most fruits & veggies.

Patricia, I guess I will have to give up on seeing Alaska during this life, but in MY Heaven I'll bet I can visit every spot on your links. Maybe even run into Jane while roaming around, okay, Jane?

Amy, I also love Shepherd's pie, in fact, put a potato on the table in any form & I am happy. Since I am having trouble getting enough protein down I think I will take one of my Omaha beef bergers & cook it up to spread into a microwave tub of mashed potatoes, not sure I'll put the green beans cooked in onions into the mix but will have it on the side. Won't even put it in the oven since all will be cooked ahead.... no left overs with that. Not exactly the same & know the oven bake makes a big difference BUT.... glad you mentioned it.

Lloyd, my Fitbit says I got a little over 5 hours sleep last night but only 19 minutes of deep sleep so maybe it's the moon that kept us from sound sleep?  My mother's father was a farmer & also owned a butcher shop but he believed the moon has a lot to do with our earth & she would always point out HIS reason, "look at how it controls the tides". I don't know if it actually does but back in those days they planted crops "by the sign of the moon" and was said some doctors wouldn't plan surgery on some signs because patients would bleed too much. I think they have proved not all was true but something to think about!  ;)

It is light now so better get a move on. I think Tiger went back to bed without her bowl of milk.... bad me........ :-\

Shirley, --- Have you ever had cooked celery? Just plain cooked celery?  My parents did that. At first I didn't care for it, but it grows on you. (still have some behind my ears)

Rick, I have only cooked "potato & celery soup"... the whole heart plus a few stalks chopped up, along with a potato cut bite size & naturally a whole onion...lots of butter and those that like added cheese. While you're at it, make some garlic croutons to add before eating, I don't like mine to get soggy. I do love to eat.

I tried for a nap this morning but phone calls kept me awake so still sleepy & thinking about sneaking off to look for that nap again.

Trees are ladened down with ice...I saw the tops of our pines and I hope we don't lose them.

Soup was made , laundry done and Kyle got his hair cut. Tomorrow more bread will be made and if weather permits we will take some soup and bread to his sister.

Shirley, a lot of farmers beilieved in the moon, the birds, leaves and usually  did predict weather that was to come. I wouldn't cut hay when the dipper was on its end (spilling water) just little things to make life interesting..here is another.

Most families paid strict attention to the phase the moon was in, and they killed on the first cold day they could get when the moon was "right." As one said, "If you kill a hog on th' new of th' moon, slice it and put it in a pan, it'll just blow you 'til you can't fry th' grease out of it hardly. You got t'kill it on th' right time of th' moon. You don't never want to kill it on th' new moon." Another said, "We'd kill hogs on th' full moon, or just about th' full moon. While th' moon was shrinkin', th' meat'd shrink. There'd be a lot'a lard an' grease if it'uz on th' shrinkin' of th' moon. If it'uz on th' new moon, you wouldn't make much lard, and th' meat'd swell up when y'cooked it 'stead'a shrink." Other farmers would kill their own hogs when the moon was shrinking, but they would take hogs to market when the moon was growing so that the meat would weigh more.

It's time to head for the haystack!  And I'm ready!!!!

LLOYD, that little gal knew what was what didn't she?

AMY, I loved that farmer story.  I remember being at my grandfather's farm when there was a slaughter going on but I sure couldn't tell you what the weather was!  And we had good meat all through the war years when it was scarce and hard to get!

I spent the afternoon getting everything ready to make AMY'S Meatball Soup...chopping carrets, turnips, celery, onions and not just for the soup.  I have packages in the freezer ready for the next "whatever" I make that I need them for.  And tomorrow is soup day!  I think it's going to be a keeper!

RICK's question to SHIRLEY about the cooked celery started me thinking since I have a lot of extra celery right now.  So I came to the computer and looked it up and there must be about 20 ways to cook celery.  I ended up copying a recipe for frying it.  Sounds pretty good.  Thanks RICK for putting the idea in my mind!

SHIRLEY, I'll look for you in the "after life" and we'll do Alaska together!  Sounds like fun!

Okay, I'm off to the haystack!  Tomorrow, no Cooper so it'll be "make the soup day"!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and my God bless us, every one!

Amy, I remember when someone warned me to "not try to take the bottle away from a baby or the pacifier when the moon wasn't right or they would never quit crying"....  back in those days a garden was planted by the moon with "root" veggies a different sign than above ground and different types of plants to keep away bugs, etc. At one time I had a lot of the old books from those years but have donated to the historical society, county where they came from, or passed on to my kids. My siblings didn't want any of the old books.

Hope your pine trees don't break off. We don't see many pines around here anymore, that pine disease killed most the last 10 years. We lost a lot of plants some years ago when we had a warm spell in January & deep freeze in Feb....

You snuck in, Lloyd! I'm with Nancy on keeping the kitchen HER way. My kids think I'm crazy for not using a dish washer, was fairly new when Cas died but it takes about an hour to run & I can have the dishes washed & in a drainer in a few minutes & don't have to listen to it run while I'm on the computer. When Cas was alive I spent a lot of evening time downstairs on the computer & he had a big screen TV back in his "man cave" sitting room/bedroom/bathroom area so would be watching sports or those talk shows back there. The dish washer didn't bother either of us. After he died I spend most of my time in this end of the house & do things MY WAY.

Past bedtime but had lots of phone calls today. Got to get more done tomorrow. Sweet dreams & God Bless to all.......

Good morning...

Temp is 31° at the moment, haven't stuck my head out to see if it is raining or not.
A bit of running around to do then home to make buns of bread..instead of making one loaf you put 3 round balls in the loaf pan, let rise then bake. Easy to pull off one "loaf" while you can freeze or refidgetrate the rest if you don't go through bread fast.

Shirley, I agree with the planting by the moon.

Jane here is another pearl of wisdom for you my friend.

Old Farmer's Advice: Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. Every path has a few puddles. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Off to meet the day...slept in and had better make up for lost time.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Well I guess you could say that today started out well.  I've been hearing a beep every so often and especially in the morning when it's quiet around here.  I've tried to track it down for over a week now and it's been driving me up the walls.  Today, I FOUND IT!  A while back when I made a lot of smoke in the kitchen, the fire alarms went off and the only way I could get them to stop was to turn of the switch in the fuse box.  I guess I forgot to turn it back on and it was telling me to get with it.  I turned it on this morning and the beep is gone!

AMY, you have a lot of those old sayings.  If my farming family used them, I didn't remember.  But my grandfather was a lot like my father.  He didn't talk unless he had SOMETHING to say!  And when he did talk, everyone listened!

It's still not "winter cold" out there but we still have the clouds and the off and on rain!

Later on, Cathy is coming over to do some paper work for me so I guess I better get dressed and get started on the soup.  Anyone who wants to try AMY'S Meatball Soup is welcome to join me for supper.  We'll eat around 6 while we watch Mannix on TV.

Have a good day, better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Phyllis: got a full blown cackle out of me, thank you very much!

Amy,, I love the clip from the Almanack, I don't think to buy one every year but save them to re-read over & over, I swear somebody adds to it over time!

Jane, my father was like yours, few words but when he said something every head turned his direction to hear what he had to say. My mother was a walking cliche'. My sister tried to talk me into making a list of her sayings but I couldn't ... spent too much time trying to remember because they just came out of her mouth when called for! Had to be there.

Gotta get a move on.

A Good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

My surgery was yesterday and overall I am doing good.....unfortunately there was too much scar tissue around the Axillary nerve so they were unable to proceed with the transplant 😩  I am very disappointed and have a little pity party now and then but know that I at least had the opportunity to try to fix it, and it was not meant to be. I am sad that Bob will have to continue to help me every day to meet my needs, but it is what it is😩. The best thing I can say is that my surgeon did his best to accomplish this but knew when to call it off so I would not loose any of the ability that I currently have.  I could tell that he was equally disappointed that he had to tell me this news as I was to hear it😩😩

Now I am wondering IF that full moon had something to do with this outcome? 🤪. I loved your stories AMY, and I will be giving more thought the moon in general before I proceed ‼️🤪🤪🤪

I thank those of you who have given me your total support....through out all of my trials in life....it means the world to me that our friendship on here can help so much.  I wish there were a way for you to transport over the net some of the delicious food you make...I could really go for that potato soup and the fresh homemade bread you are making AMY.  I sure hope your pine trees survive the heavy ice and will not break.  We had so many big branches broken off by our last heavy snow.  So sad.

I wish you all a good day and I thank you for sharing your day to day lives with me.....

Jenny

Jenny, I am so very sorry about your shoulder.  I agree with Phyllis that your Bob will lovingly help you and I am confident that you'll be able to adjust to the "new normal" with time.

All of the fresh bread sounds delicious! I made "quick breads" but never had the patience to make yeast breads.  (Of course, I never had the patience or desire to do the kind of cooking that Amy, Shirley and JaneS do at all. :))

Patricia, was it here that I read you no longer have a slow cooker or crock pot?  Have meant to mention that I got a 1.5 quart slow cooker that's just the right size for "doing something" with a package of pork chops or chicken breasts or ground beef and then package and freeze in individual servings.

It amazes me that both sons are really good cooks because the only things I taught them to make were frozen Fish Sticks/boxed Macaroni and Cheese and my Mother's "Quick Spaghetti" (ground beef/a can of Spaghetti/a can of tomato sauce/a package of dry Spaghetti Mix).  #1 son loves to try new recipes and bake bread.  #3 son makes up his own recipes.

Slow Days around here.  I'm basically caught up with Domestic Duties and desk work.  Spending most of my time reading e-books of various types and playing various kinds of Solitaire on my Tablet.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Wonderful Weekend.  Stay warm and stay well.  :smitten:

Post by: patricia19 on January 06, 2023, 05:49:27 PM
Callie, yes, I did get rid of my microwave, slow cooker, and many other cooking devices that I didn't or no longer use. I do have a large Convection/toaster oven that I might also be going to donate. I no longer meal prep, and so much of what I formally used was now excess.

I looked at the smaller slow cookers, but since I'm home to cook many of my meals, I felt buying one wasn't a good idea.

I do have an enamel-coated cast iron six-quart dutch oven, and a large casserole dish, both from Lodge, and I also have some size graduated cast iron cookware that I don't use but keep thinking I might in the future. I have a six-quart stainless steel stock pot and several 7 to ten-inch cast iron or Teflon fry pans.

However, an oversized manual wok and my coffee press get the most daily use.

Soup's On!  The Meatball soup is just waiting to be eaten.  I'm going to be eating and serving during "Mannix" if anyone wants to drop in and joing me.  It smells tantalizing!  AMY, I'll let you know as soon as I eat some!

JENNY, I'm so sorry to hear your news but you do have a good guy in BOB.  He just seems like he's ready to be there for you.

I've got to get finished cleaning up and kind of watch the canner.  I canned the extra soup so I have 8 pints for later but the canner is waiting to cool off enough to get them out!

CALLIE, isn't it strange what our kids can do that we'd never have been able to handle?  I have 3 accountants out of 4 kids and math was my "Holy Horror" when I was growing up!  I still don't lie it!  But I'm grateful that my oldest daughter has decided to be my personal accountant.  I even have her on my bank account!  And my son runs a business that he inherited from his father and he improved the finances and is doing better than his father ever did!  The other daughter is the one in Okla. who now works from home.  When they were moving there from Texas, she told her boss she would either have to quit or start working his accounts from home.  His answer, "I don't care where you work from! I'm NEVER letting you go!"

O think I better go check out the canner.  It's probably time to remove the lid and take out the jars.  I'll be watching for you to show up for dinner at 6!

Good morning...

Now we are getting back into seasonal weather with a temp of 20°F.

Will do a delivery this morning then home to do laundry with hopes of putting it on the line. SIL was to get her lifeline set up for home safety, I hope she won't need to use it but it is a God send as she has fallen twice now.

Jenny, I am sorry that your news was not what you wanted to hear.  You are so lucky to have Bob by your side and you know he doesn't mind filling in. No difference if the shoe was on the other foot as you would/will help him.

Shirley and Rick , glad you liked the "quote" many old time saying still hold true today.

Callie, my son loves to cook and he is amazing at it. They now make their own bacon in the smoker and won't buy bologna as the one they make is better!

Jane, you did a great job on the soup....enjoyed someone else making it!Better get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but not really "attem" yet.  I'm going to take today as it comes.  I think I wore myself out the last few days and I'm just going to work on going through the Christmas decorations and packing away the ones I need to save and getting rid of the ones I don't need to save.  Some of them will go to family members but I've a feeling they won't want a lot of them!

Frankie doesn't work until 10 this morning so Cooper will be a bit late.  And he'll have had his breakfast already when he gets here.  I've a feeling he'll be ready for a walk by that time!

I've had a chirping noise for about 2 weeks now and this morning I found it.  It's one of my smoke alarms and it needs a new battery.  I managed to figure out how to open it and how to get the old battery out but I can't get the new one back in.  I guess that'll be one of my projects for today.  I might have to prevail on my good neighbor for help with this one!

AMY, I have a lot of celery left over from the soup and the discussion of cooked celery started by RICK prompted me to look up "cooked celery".  I found a recipe for "Fried Celery" that I'm thinking of trying.  I really don't like plain, raw celery and I usually end up tossing some when I buy it for a recipe.  And since the surgery in my cheek, I really have an excuse for not eating it.  I simply can't chew it any more.  So, I'm going to try frying some!  Has anyone ever done that?  And if you did, was it good?

Now I'm off to get my day started.  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

OK AMY, I apologize!  I did read your entry yesterday!  I just missed it when my eyes were on shut longer than open!  I'm off to get ready for church.  Cathy is dropping me off and one of my good friends will bring me home!

JaneS, --- Soda Shop and Bait & Tackle are so similar that in my opinion they should be combined (and maybe a new name to keep everyone happy) so that posts are not missed. We are shrinking severely and too many places to post makes it look like no one is here.

Rick, I do think that's a good idea, to combine the two. I was also wondering if there is a way to identify some of us that changed names when we crashed a few years ago, by adding the old name under our avatar. We had a lot of Shirleys when I first ajoined & after trying a few others I settled on my mother's nickname (Tisie) & was pretty sure no other like it. Not sure if any remembers Tisie, but that used to be ME.  I catch a name now & then that rings a bell & think, "I didn't know that's who that was!"  Oh, by the way, I don't think I remember how to get in & add that old name. :-[  ;D

Combining and/or changing Discussion names would no doubt involve Admin work.  But you (each individual) can put and/or change the things under your avatar.  Off hand I don't recall the procedure, but if anyone needs it I'm sure one of us would help (including me).
And YES, I do remember Tisie, and I think I like it better than Shirley (for a couple of reasons).

I like coming into Soda Shoppe...reminds me of times past. Remember when you could get a milk shake full of flavour, bubbles and so cold on a hot summers day? I meet many friend here Gloria, Joan,Hal, Larry, Joy Jeanne Lee,Linedancer and  our sweetheart June Drebek.  I think it is because of the holdiays that post are slow...but they will pick up. In the mean time we can ask others to join.

I believe that combining and changing formats would lose more members as others may not want to post in a combined forum. I also believe wholesale deletion of past posts and members passed on would lose more of what brings those posting now.

I also believe that you snuck in before me Amy or I would have simply posted a "What she said," comment.  :)

Thanks, Rick, for remembering & I will think about adding when I figure how.

EDIT: Both good points, Patricia & Amy, and I'm okay with whatever helps.

For right now I ran across something I copied quite a while ago, do not recall from who/whom (big deal about that long ago & don't recall that verdict, either), even if I copied from here or got e-mail, but this lady has been my hero ever since. She comes from the same area of France my gr-Grandmother did so maybe I am ;)  related to her.
**************

Jeanne Louise Calment had the longest confirmed human lifespan on record: 122 years and 164 days. It seems that fate strongly approved of the way Madame Calment lived her life. She  was born in Arles, France, on February 21, 1875. (My grandmother was born in New Orleans in 1871).  When the Eiffel Tower was built, she was 14 year old. It was at this time that she met Vincent van Gogh. "He was dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable," she recalled in an interview given in 1988.

When she was 85, she took up fencing, and she was still riding on her bike when she reached 100. At the age of 114, she starred in a film about her life; at age 115 she had an operation  on her hip, and at age 117 she gave up smoking, having started at the age of 21 in 1896. Apparently, she didn't give it up for health reasons, but because she didn't like having to ask someone to help her light a cigarette once she was nearly blind.

In 1965, Jeanne was 90 years old and had no heirs. She signed a deal to sell her apartment to a 47-year-old lawyer called André-François Raffray. He agreed to pay her a monthly sum  of 2,500 francs on the condition that he would inherit her apartment after she died. However, Raffray not only ended up paying Jeanne for 30 years, but died before she did at the age of 77. His widow was legally obliged to continue paying Madam Calment until  the end of her days.

Jeanne retained sharp mental faculties. When she was asked on her 120th birthday what kind of future she expected to have, she replied, "A very short one."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm not sure what to talk about today.  The only things left in my life are my Great Granddoggie, my kitchen, the weather, my house, my family and my dear friends.  I love this place and I like to hear different things.

MYCHEAL, we are really interested in what ANYONE posts even if it's something we don't do ourselves.  If you read books, tell us.  I like to read and if the library has it in large print, I'll check it out.  if you just sweep the front porch or you stay out of the cleaning lady's way while she cleans the kitchen or the bathroom, tell us.  If the sky looks odd or different this morning, tell us.  If the sun was brighter than usual, tell us.  I really don't want to lose this place!  And I really don't care what everyone does.  If it's different from what I do...HOORAY!

Today, I have to wrap some long-time Christmas ornaments that I'm giving to my granddaughter for her birthday.  It seems my grandkids like to inherit old family stuff!  I found my dad's pocket knife and I gave it to my grandson for Christmas.  He can't stop talking about it.  You'd think I gave him the moon!

Just come back and say anything that enters your mind.  Friends are friends...even if they're different.  Maybe even ESPECIALLY if they're different.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

We will see the sun today so they say then snow , snow,  snow for a few days.

Kyle has an appointment at the Dr then on to drop off a Christmas gift.

Mycheal, Jane hit the nail on the head. (good aim Jane) Even if you pop in just to say hello.

Jane, in our gift to granddaughter I included a bag of pure garlic. She had asked her Dad where does Grandma get her garlic it is really the best. Apparently, dispite all that was in the box the garlic was a hit!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

It's more of a treasure to him than you will ever realize...........
Upstairs, in the attic, I have most of my parents Christmas tree dec's. I don't put up a real tree any more so haven't used them in a while. Among them are the old light strings, where if one went out, they all did. My dad always added two more lights to the string, which made the bulbs last longer and not burn as bright or hot. Some of the older bulbs are shaped and painted like fruit, and there is a Dumbo bulb. I recall a couple of "Japanese Lantern" bulbs. The boxes are now all dried and crisp, and I wouldn't be surprised if the wires were too. But all the bulbs should be good.
With no family left except my son, who lives here with me, I suspect these old things will go their merry way when I'm gone.  Sad to think of it - but life goes on and ,,,,,

RICK, my sister inherited those old light strings and her daughter still uses them on the tree.  They put up a tree in the living area in the basement and one in the living room.  They use the old lights on the one in the basement because that's where they spend ta lot of their time.

Don't you love the memories!

Ten Little Tips to Feel Happier Right Now

1. Smile. Raise the corners of your mouth. Soon your smile will become genuine. The smile that begins as an effort and a pretense quickly grows to become genuine, And given time, a habit of happiness.

2. Breathe deeply and slowly. Focus your entire attention on each in-breath and out-breath. Imagine drawing in new clean energy  through the top of your head on each in-breath, and expelling old stale energy out the soles of your feet on each out-breath.

3. Take a quiet walk by yourself. Focus on each step and on your breathing. As stray thoughts enter your mind, thank each one, and quickly release the thought and return to a focus on your breathing and your steps.

4. Count your blessings. Make a gratitude list. You have thousands of reasons to be thankful. Be thankful for those who serve you. Make a list of those you depend upon. Everyone has many people who help along the way. Don't forget those who grow and deliver your food, keep your electricity and telephone running, provide emergency medical care, and protect the safety of your community and your nation.

5. Forgive someone for something right now. Release the resentment and anger. This practice is for you to become happier. Telling the other person that you forgive them is completely optional, and is merely a bonus.

6. Stretch your body. Do yoga, do qigong, or just stand and stretch. As a simple stretch, stand and hold your arms out to your sides forming a cross. Gently bend each hand back at the wrist until the fingers point straight upward. Twist each hand and arm in a wringing motion as if you were operating a screwdriver.

7. Turn on happy music and dance. Don't stop 'til you're tired. Dance with someone or dance all by yourself. Choose music that makes you want to move and keep moving.

8. Spend some time with a furry friend. If you don't have your own, borrow a cat or dog to love today.

9. Be of service. Find someone who has worse troubles than you and do something nice for them today.

10. Have a conversation with God. Approach the conversation with an attitude of gratitude rather than neediness.

May the world be kind to you,  and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.

Hello!  I got a new computer last summer and it has 11 on it.  I do not like it.  But I can't go back so I'm stuck with it!

BUBBLE, thanks for the suggestions.  If I did all of that every day. I'd be busy all day.  However, some of it is automatic.  I just do it as the day goes by.  And I'll try to add some of what you suggested!  It might make me a better person.  Do you think?

Today I had a pretty good casserole for supper.  It was one of those COTF casseroles.  (Clean Out The Fridge)  It had a little of this and a little of that a some of the other stuff in it!  It was pretty good and I'll have the rest of it for lunch tomorrow!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I didn't have Cooper today and it was a pretty quiet day but he'll be here tomorrow morning around 8:15.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I have one old computer that will still do a few Paint Shop Pro things (all I know how) that started out as Vista & stayed Vista... no updates for it! This last HP I bought on sale when camping in CO (good ole Walmart), touch screen & all the perks & has caused me headaches every time it does an update, but it started as Windows 10 & only cost $250 so I do threaten it with a float down the river when it gets contrary. I have to get out of Google/DuckDuck/Go & use Edge if I want to click on coupons for my Kroger store.... I do hate to be bullied. Never like anything new.

Nice to see you post, Don, I check out your fantastic photos now & then & am always amazed at the traveling you must do to all those locations.

Hey, Rick, we had some of those Christmas lights & after the wires wore out we rigged up ways to hang the bulbs as ornaments. Sadly I didn't get any of them.  I am in the process of giving all my Christmas stuff away but keeping what my daughter wants & getting rid of what nobody wants.

Putting my daughter's name on the title to the house & car so it will be hers & the boys names are on the jumbo CDs so "right of survivorship" rules. The bank was a little uneasy & warned me that "co-owners could cash & run" so I told them I wasn't worried, just want to keep it simple.  I do feel lucky to not be in pain & able to take care of me (yet), and have even giggled when the doctors & people I've talked to with Medicare & BlueCross catch their breathe like I just grew horns to say the word die! But we will ALL do it!

All 3 will end up equal, this way I don't have to rush to clean out the house! Guess it's a gamble no matter how we die. Be nice if someone would write a book of instructions on what to expect with the process. Didn't plan to talk about this again but got lots to do before I run out of steam!

Funny part is I have no credit because we never bought anything we couldn't pay cash for, don't owe a dime except for cremation & was not going to pay up front for that in case a bear got me in CO!  The urn & niche' I paid for when Cas died. I'm not giving everything away, never know but I might out live everyone around me. Take it day by day & enjoy all we can, right?

Sweet dreams & God Bless.... I really am grateful to come visit with y'all every day, and I do learn from how different each of you deal with your worlds.

Mycheal, nice to see you pop in, have a feeling you are happy in your own skin & don't need anyone to entertain you. I am happy in the woods with nobody around but will visit with anyone that stops by to talk.

Bubble, so much truth in your Tips, thanks. I really did sail through the house dancing to the old music of the '40s & '50, knew all the words. Not so easy with a 50' oxygen hose that loves to snag on everything & when it does my ears get pulled to the floor (almost). Don't think about that. Life is still good.

I did not update and Microsoft keeps telling me "your computer is ready to have Verson 11 installed".  It may be - but I'm not!!!!
I don't have an I-phone or a Fit-Bit, either.  Do have a perfectly serviceable cell phone but do NOT want something around my wrist giving me advice/directions/contacts/ete. etc. every 5 minutes.

Wondering if Microsoft will "stop servicing" Windows 10 at a certain date as it did with earlier versions.

Donklan, did you update?  If so, what do you think?  Are there any advantages for those of us who don't use computers for everything we do?

Sunny and supposed to be 72º in central Oklahoma.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Well, my day didn't go as planned but that's ok. Between phones calls and doing things around here the day has scooted on. The parts didn't come in so rescheduled for Thur, hopefully they are in by then.

Lloyd, thank you but our travelling  days are over. We have had many good years travelling across Canada and the US in the past. Would love to do a few more (back to Montana and to Alaska) and go back east to Peggy's cove but its ok.

Jane, have you made Lithuanian Bacon buns? Years ago I tasted these and think I would like to make some.

Patricia,we are to get snow Thur and Fri here. The snow that is left has a hard crust on it. How much snow do you have there?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1 , 2023

We have about two older inches on the ground that has been largely plowed and scraped off. There is a lot of ice and a fourth promise of forecasted 01.10 inches of snow starting on Wednesday at noon. We will either get none as usual or be hit and submerged. I'm betting on the latter and not the former.

I've fobbed off daily chores to play on my new computer. However, it's starting to bother me, so I guess I'll get busy this afternoon and implement a clean.

Regarding computers, yes, Microsoft will cut off W10 at some point. From what I've seen, W11 has stopped several functions, such as moving files to an external, for example, only copying to an external rather than moving as was done in the past. I've resorted to copying twice to be sure appropriate files were moved.

If you want to check the number of items or files in a folder, that number is no longer automatically at the top. You can select all files and move them slightly to see the number of items or count them yourself. All automatic functions before W11 are now listed under show more options at the bottom of the current options list.

Many older programs no longer work or only partially under W11. Programs redesigned to be on W11 are missing many of the older features we've gotten used to. I find that to be current, Microsoft is pushing its programs or styles of programming, VPNs, or password keeper over other brands. This is my take, and I'm sure others may have other opinions.

Good morning..

We are sitting at -3 °F ,not a day to run about in shorts!

Working around home today. Have a couple of new recipes I would like to try and maybe sew a bit.

Friend emailed me and said she can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Told her to be careful it could be a train coming . Covid knocked the socks off of her and it will take a while to get all her energy back.

Watching the news and seeing all the devistation in CA is heartbreaking. That is going to take a long time to clean up and repair.

Jane, you must have been all in last night as you didn't post.

Patricia, one can only play so long with a new product . When you come back to it , it it with "new eyes" and renewed intrest.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  AMY, you called it!  I was beat right down to my socks last night!  I'm not only working on putting all the Christmas stuff away.  I'm trying to get rid of some of it and I'm working on the "Junk Room" to get rid of a lot of stuff.  If the kids don't want to take it now, I'm starting a box with each kid's name on it and they'll get it when they don't don't have to look after their old MOMMY any more!

Back when we lost our kid sister at the age of 56 (that was almost 26 years ago) I told my other sister she has to outlive me because I'm NOT going through that again!  So far she's doing her part.  She's the one who just celebrated her 89th birthday!

If you know anyone who collects the buttons that stores pass out for different occasions, I have a box full of Wal-Mart buttons that my family doesn't want.  And if you wonder what I mean by "boxful", there
are more than a hundred in the box!  They were all collected over the years that I worked at Wal-Mart.  If you tell anyone about them, be sure to tell them that I've told my family at the same time and they're thinking about it.

BUBBLE, I took a picture of them and when I'm finished here, I'll send it to you and you can post it somewhere so people can have a look!

Now I'm off to get something else done.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

At present he is collecting pop dolls and can't have enough of them.  He already has two shelves full of them in his room.

Good morning; today, it's six degrees at eight am, and it's very dry out, so I'm not counting on snow today, even if forecast.

W11 is 64-bit, and the older 32-bit apps or programs either don't work with it or will have issues.

Bubble, what is a "pop doll"? The latest music icon made into a doll?

Thanks, BUBBLE!  PATRICIA, pop dolls are a collectible vinyl toy made by a company called (I think) Funko!  There might be a button in that box advertising them.  Whenever anything new came out, we got a button to wear to advertise it!.  There's a bunch of Harry Potter one's in there.  And a lot for new movies that came out!

Good Morning!  It's raining out there and a bit on the chilly side but not cold enough to freeze the rain.  Cooper spent the night with me and I'm pretty sure he's ready for his morning walk.  It's not really light out there yet but by the time I get dressed and ready, it might be light enough to see.  I wish everyfriend a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  I'll be back to see what Everyfriend is up to today!  Please stop by and tell us!

Good morning...

I am also up,vehicle goes in today providing the parts are there. Have some hamburg to deal with that was on sale the other day.  Snow is being called for and we did get a bit last night but more is expected today.

I made the Lativian buns and oh my they are good. Will be making them again but will make them smaller. Easy to do once you get on a roll...pun intended. :2funny:

Friend called and she did well in the morning, managed some sewing but by the afternoon her steam was running out. Covid makes it home in your body for a while it seems. :(

Better get busy..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Thanks, Jane; I looked up Funko, and it reminded me of both the troll and the bubblehead dolls of past crazes.

We were at plus six most of yesterday and evening, and today we've dropped to minus three, and no new snow arrived, and none is expected now. The coming forecast is for clear skies and colder. The weather report says under activities, dust, and dander will be high, and sinus pressure will be too. Ironically they added that fishing would be poor.

Bubble, at one time, I believe I was perhaps nine and had quite the troll collection myself.

Amy, Lativian buns sound good. Do you make the ones with bacon? With the weather we've had, all I want these days is to make it hot and keep my plate coming. My slowly increasing waistband more leisure reflects that.

I hope your van is easily and less expensively repaired with all the parts in.

Dora and Alan are sick with either Covid or the flu; they're all vaccinated and prepared. The roads leading up to them are too slick and icy to go anywhere. Dora has been knitting and Alan reading, but like your friend, they're doing more sleeping.

Patricia, van is in now and parts are there! Neihbour will take me back to pick it up when done.

Yes, bacon and onions chopped fine ,cooked then cooled then into the dough. I made them too big so next time less than the size of a golf ball should work out . The dough is easy to work with and tender when cooked, I wouldn't mind just using it just for buns!

We had about 2 inches of snow and now a fine drizzle making the snow heavy to move. Leaving it there as tomorrow we are to get a good snack of snow so might as well wait.

Well, I made a GIOOTF meal in the crock pot today and it's really good.  In case you're wondering the initials are for "get it out of the freezer".  I'm trying to use up stuff that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.  My plan is an empty freezer by summer when it's time to put fresh stuff in there.  I did have one empty shelf and then I chopped some onions, carrots, celery, turnips and "something else I can't remember" and put it in half cup size containers for quick use and there went the shelf!  Oh well, that will get used fast!

Now I'm ready to loaf for the rest of the day.  It's time for Mannix and supper!  I hope everyone's day is going well.  We have a rainy one here.  Thank goodness it's not cold enough to be snow or ice but rain is cold for walking dogs in the winter months.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and partly "attem".  I have to prepare for Cooper's arrival at 10:45.  I'm pretty sure Frankie said she works at 11 today.  Then I might have someone to come look at the WM pins today and hopefully, she'll want ALL of them.  She told my daughter she remembers me from work.  I don't know her name but I bet her face will be familiar!  And there's another one interested in just one pin for her daughter so I rooted that one out.  I think she might be coming today, too.

And with that in mind, I better get dressed!

AMY, I guess Van "Gogh" is Van "Stay" today!

Is a $2 ticket worth the risk?

Obviously, there's a debate on whether buying a $2 Mega Millions or Powerball ticket is "worth" it – especially since the chances of taking home a jackpot are nearly impossible.

"Imagine you write the letters to 'Mega Millions' on individual pieces of paper, mix them up, and let your cat randomly select letters. Your cat is five times more likely to correctly spell 'Mega Millions' than you are to win," Kovach said, adding that you are also more likely to be struck by lightning twice in your lifetime than win the lottery.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was so tired last night that I just climbed into the haystack and let the eyes clump shut!

AMY, your snow didn't make it over the border!  We had rain most of the day yesterday with temps in the low 40s.  It was cold out there and wet but no snow!

I'm not interested in buying lottery tickets.  And now that I know the odds on the bit ones, I'm even less likely to waste my money!  And what in the heck would you do if you actually won!

LLOYD, it's been busy around your house.  You must have a very smart teaching/counseling "granddaughter"!

I forgot if Frankie said she works this weekend or she's off.  I guess I'll find out when Cooper either shows up or he doesent.  I'm still working on my "Junk Room" and I'm beginning to think it looks worse now than it did when I started!  Christy and I are planning a "Driveway Sale" this Spring!  My neighborhood usually has one around Memorial Day.  or as my Gramma always called "Decoration Day"

Now I'm off to get dressed and get SOMETHING started and maybe even done, today!  I will you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good, barely afternoon at 12:34 and presently minus 13 and going down to downright frigid. I'm finally back online and hope to stay that way. I'm also looking for a new internet company. I did finish all my chores and even invented a few more, plus I finished reading two books, so I guess there is life other than the Internet.

Lloyd, that is horrible for that child; I agree with Amy about the mother not killing her child as well as many seem to do.

My sister and I have a sourdough starter that dates back to the 18th century, you continue to replenish, and it lasts forever. The past sourdoughs of the Yukon and Alaska would carry their starter pouches under their shirts to keep the starters warm during their travels.

Amy, none of that snow made it west to us, but then our weather travels east to west with Anchorage and southeast Alaska on the other side of the Alaskan Range traveling south.

Jane, it's so easy for clutter to accumulate. My two tables comprising my "office" on the other side of my living room are the worst as I tend to lay something down with the mistaken idea of returning to it.

PATRICIA, my office is such a mess that if I have something that I REALLY need to deal with, I lay it on the dining room table...until that pile gets so big it embarasses me.

Now I'm off to the haystack.  I have to be up and ready for church when my son comes to pick me up.  And my DIL (who works at Starbucks) is dropping off my free bag of coffee sometime tomorrow.  I think she said she's finished at 2 and will drop it on her way home!  They do look after me!

I have to remember to ask them if granddaughter Kiran got her learner's permit.  She turned 16 a week before Christmas.  Now I think my son knows how it feels to have a kid behind the wheel!  He's the last of my kids to go there!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Where's LLOYD and PHYLLIS and JENNY and EVERYFRIEND?

It is near bedtime and I finally woke up from a nap!  Goodness, doesn't take much to wear me out these days.  The wind has had the flags next door stretched out like they are  starched so even tho warmer, not a comfy day out. My daughter is spending the next week taking care of her 3 grands while their parents are off to Belize. They are going to a different area than their cousins visited last week.

Patricia, hadn't thought about how the "old sourdoughs" in early years kept their starter warm. Still think of Alaska as the one place in the world I regret not visiting, but not a time for regrets when so much to be grateful for, right?

I was talking to the neighbor about her husband's sour dough starter this week. He was an engineer with one of the aircraft plants but loved to bake cinnamon rolls for everyone at Christmas time, died a few years ago. Don't think I want to be tied to baking that often. I do cook a lot these days, but just what sounds good to anyone around. I used to bake yeast rolls & would create one loaf of cinnamon bread by braiding the dough & loading it with brown & white sugar & cinnamon as I braided. It would raise nicely on a cookie sheet instead of loaf pan and with a powdered sugar & butter icing, was really good.  A lot easier to bake my cinnamon biscuits, don't have to let them raise!

Sweet dreams and God Bless, love y'all.  I'll turn out the lights, Jane. Shirley/Tisie

Sheepishly coming in to say HELLO to EVERYFRIEND🥰 The days just seem to be flying by and not a one of them do I not say "I must post today".  I read the posts and start my own, and somehow I never finish😩😩

My incision is now in view after the dressing started coming off yesterday.  It feels good to have it off and so far there has been no issue.  I will be seeing Dr. Dave today and he being a would care specialist will recover it if needed.  It itches like crazy, and to me that means healing‼️ I will see my surgeon this coming Friday.

We were busy this week checking out and purchasing a cruise for us to go on.  I am SO EXCITED‼️ We go in three weeks.....sailing from San Francisco to Hawaii and back to SF.  I have to admit I am a bit concerned about the awful weather pattern that the Pacific is currently under. I hope for all involved that this crazy rain will stop!

My best thoughts to ALL.

Good morning, it's 9:49 in the morning, and the temperature has gone back up to the previous six degrees. However, the skies are clear, and there is no snow in the forecast, so that it won't be warming that much further.

I've vacuumed the place, done a load of laundry, and in the dryer with a second load being washed. Yesterday, I found more cookware for donation and a two-pound coffee can of green split peas.

We have a hoarder here who also has sticky fingers. He will take anything and everything at the donation table, even women's or children's clothing. He doesn't sell it because security does bimonthly apartment checks with his sponsoring agency in his apartment. They take everything not reported missing to the Salvation Army.

Dora and Alan had a friend come by who lives close and is a retired nurse. They don't have Covid; tests were negative, but they had a nasty bout of the flu. Other than that, all is well in the local call, text, or email daily group. I'm not the only one who suddenly got the itch to clean or declutter; people are either preparing to downsize, sell, or look to clean things up a bit.

Well, PATRICIA, I've been at it, too.  I'm working in my junk room and once the recycling stuff goes and the tossed stuff get...well...tossed, there'll be a lot of space in there!

When my son was driving me to church this morning, he said his family was going to make supper and bring it over to my house so we could all have it together.  So I don't have to think about supper/  Sounds nice, huh?

Now I better get back to work.  I think they might be taking the recycling with them when they leave.  And I'll be able to see the floor!  The more that goes, the better for me
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1 , 2023
Post by: patricia19 on January 15, 2023, 05:25:38 PM
Jane, it seems to me that once you start an activity, it's hard to stop, such as my deep cleans and the recycling of your junk room. Last month was a serious deep clean for me, all the window casings,  baseboards, air vents, and window treatments. Originally due to my computer dying and a December structural inspection by the folks from the Juneau office, I had the time and focus.

November saw a mass declutter of all my dumped papers from six filing boxes. That netted four 33 gal garbage bags of shredded paper and the remainder into an empty milk crate. I've tentatively scheduled next Thursday to sort, pile, and move the various items into labeled folders.

Last week when I was temporarily offline again, I decluttered and donated ten coffee tins full of excess dried beans and yellow and green dried split peas and rice. Hopefully, I now have only fresher and smaller supplies. I no longer meal prep or eat as much as I used to and no longer have a place or inclination to store the food if I did.

I wish I could join you and your family for that dinner! My family is in Idaho, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Northern California. We stay in touch, but it isn't the same.

Jenny, I'm so happy for you; a cruise sounds lovely if the weather cooperates! When I was fifteen, my family took the Malaspina ferry, cruised off the Alaskan coast, and on to Vancouver, then the US. I still remember seeing whales, hearing about places on shore visits, and exploring the ferry with my sisters.

Amy, fresh hot bread sounds so good!

Looking back over my post, it seems as if I've been swamped. However, if you look over the timeframe, you see I've done a tiny bit here and another later. For example, this week, I will organize, pile, and put papers that I decluttered back last year in November in folders before collecting them in my filing cabinet. I still need to order the printed labels after I've organized the folders.

You're right PATRICIA, it is easy to get involved in one job and keep at it for a long time.  But not only did Phil and Sarah bring supper, they took the recycling!  I have S*P*A*C*E!
Now I can move some other stuff into that space and maybe find more stuff to toss!

And I don't have to cook for a couple of days because Sarah left me some of the supper and Frankie was working on a new recipe today and she said she's going to bring me some tomorrow when she drops off Cooper!  So I'm set!  I probably won't cook much until Christy gets here from Maryland on Thursday!

And now I'm heading for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Still no LLOYD or PHYLLIS!

I envy the closeness of your family Jane. My sister wants me to move to Vancouver, WA. when she can finally sell her Idaho house and relocate. I don't see how that's possible financially, but at least we'd be closer or would be. Personally, in my dreams, I would settle in Vancouver, Canada, but I know the regular Canadians wish we Americans would stay home.

If I were African American, I would have an almost free ride to move to the African country of Ghana as its president is actively seeking Americans of African descent to move there. Portugal, Switzerland, and some parts of Scandinavia also don't mind Americans if they're young and educated and wouldn't be a drain on their economy. They do have expensive, drawn-out citizenship requirements, however.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold one here, today...23º and only supposed to hit a high in the low 40s.  But that's winter in PA!

LLOYD, there's no post from you on this site for the past 3 days.  I guess youve been posting on another site.  I'm glad to hear you're OK

Now I wonder about PHYLLIS!

I'm partially into the work for the day but I need to go get dressed.  Sarah is planning a grocery shopping trip and she's going to take me with her.  Since Kiran was fighting the flu yesterday, she wasn't sure whice day she'd be going.  I told her to just give me a half hour's notice so I could either get dressed or change my clothes and wash my face!

PATRICIA, I'grateful every day for the closeness of my family.  Two of the the just stayed in Lewisburg and Christy is in Maryland.  She's about 2 1/2 hours drive away and Frankie is her daughter so she has 2 reasons for visiting here!  Unfortunately, Cindy is in OKLA. and I don't get to see her as often, but she texts about every day and calls at least once a week.  And she sends pictures of my greatgrands! And when the kids are at her house or she's at their house, she face times me on the phone.  That's one of the times I LIKE my cell phone.  However, the are more times that I'm inclined to toss it in the river!  I guess i'm a bit old-fashioned...ya think?

I took time out to get dressed and get my second cup of coffee.  Now the day begins.  I hope you all have a good one...better than yesterday but not not as good as tomorrow!

There are two similar Discussions", Soda Shop, and Norms B&T. It is my opinion that people are inclined to post in the one they see action in, and may not even realize they missed something in the other place. I suggested combining the two discussions but that went over like a lead balloon The names of the discussions don't help much. There's one called "What's for supper" that has become a Recipe posting discussion, and the one for recipes doesn't get used.

Rick, the one Called "What's for Dinner" originated in SeniorNet, and people didn't post recipes but discussed what they had for dinner. When SeniorNet dropped their discussions, and Pat started this one, it became a spot for recipes. Last year, the other recipe discussion was launched, but people tend to post where they were used to.

Pat also started the Soda Shop for a discussion site when she originated S&F. Still when Norm came aboard, and he brought his old discussion with him, the one he and Papa John had brought into being back in SeniorNet and as a separate group before bringing it under the S&F umbrella. They serve different interests and styles. And there's room for both.

In my opinion, renovating and condensing the site loses its uniqueness, discards the past and those gone before, and won't gain any users. Discussion groups like ours are not what's in. Even Facebook is becoming an anachronism. Streaming, & TikTok seems to be the newer styles. Many don't want to post here because it's not inclusive.  I think, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

That's what you got out of all this? With a few notable exceptions, this site features white Christian seniors from the Midwest to Eastern US.

It has been a busy day here. I did manage to get some done but not all.....another day perhaps.  Friends are popping in for a visit tomorrow  in the afternoon., so work has to be done in the morning.

The weather is beautiful but I did notice the smoke going to the ground...not a good sign I am afraid. If all we get  is snow thenthat's ok.There is an old saying that says, 'when chimney smoke descends, our nice weather ends.' The saying is catchy, there's no doubt about that, but is it true? The answer is yes.

Rick I use both. Larry was the one to catalogue the ones in the recipes and you can go chose from a list what you would like the recipe for. What's for dinner is being used and anyone can post their favourites in there.

I also agree "If it ain't broke ,don't fix it."

That was the part I didn't understand.
Who has been turned away?    Seniors are here understandably, because of the name of our site. I know we have some from California and the P. Coast. As far as other Countries we have had many. I believe those of other races and religions have been here and welcome too. The participants do it voluntarily not by appointment.

I wasn't going to add anything more to a conversation that was going in circles, but I guess I need to clarify my remarks.

This site, S&F  is not inclusive...other than some notable exceptions

The posters to S&F are almost uniformly white, Christian folks Who live primarily in the East US.

That is not to say, see exceptions...that there are not folks in other states, or rare incidences, primarily England, from other countries.

Now Bubble, who is our primary caretaker, is not a US Christian, and Amy, whose religion is private,  to the north in Ontario, are the only daily posters not from the US.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Amy, Jane & Patricia.... has been a busy day for sure!

Weather was warm for this time of year. Three of my great grands came over to clean up the little sweet gum balls in the front yard. Didn't know that tree did that or would never have raised it in a pot & watched Cas plant. Had 3 big trash bags full. I was shocked & surprised how hard that youngest worked, she picked up as many as the older ones did.

I've been on line trying to find motorhomes like mine or as near, to come up with a price that is reasonable, seems this is almost one of a kind. Hardest possession I have to part with but no place to park in Heaven. We won't talk about that again tonight~~~  I am grateful to have had 9 years to enjoy it.

Must get to bed, dread trying to get these stretchy pants off, the legs are so tight they are like compression sox but seat & waist is loose... I may have to cut them off as swollen as from knees down is. Should have thought about that but was in a hurry to dress, down to having to try on anything I put on each day.   Sweet dreams & God Bless, love y'all.  Shirley/Tisie

Good morning...

They say snow is coming and I sure hope they do mean snow and not the freezing rain for the next few days.

Yesterday was the first time since fall that the doves have come to feed, good to see them again.

Ok Jane, Patricia, are you both on your way here? I need direction or is that dedication to do the jobs you both have done. I have papers to be thrown in the fire (country paper shredder) and clothes that need to find another home. Need to get at it so I can play in the dirt this summer.  While at the grocery store yesterday I picked up some garden seeds. Can't believe they have them out this early but maybe they think there will be a run on them and have time to order more in??

Jane, it is every body for themselves when bed time comes......good luck on getting a good spot though.

Better get a move on, my friend wants me to pick up some groceries for her and I want to get out and in before the weather says "stay home"

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

WOW!  Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's nice to come in and see the Soda Shoppe full of friends already!  There will be dishes to wash today!

Cooper and I are up and attem!  He's already finished his breakfast and I'm working on mine while he watches to make sure I save him a bite of toast.

Don't know what I'll be up to today.  I actually have SPACE in the "junk room" but I'm in no way finished yet and when (or should I say "IF") I ever finish in there, I have the office to do (thanks for the reminder, PATRICIA).  And then the closets.  I don't think it ever ends.  I'm thinking I might end before the "cleanout" does!

Now I've finished my breakfast and Cooper is ready for a walk.  Cindy put a thing on my phone that measures your steps every day and on the days that Cooper is here, I'm averaging a mile a day.  It counts everything...our walks, a trip to the mailbox, back the hall, into the kitches for coffee and out to the paperbox.  If I just run from the office to the kitchen to refill my coffee cup, it counts.  I had no idea, I walked as much as I do and I guess that's good that I do walk!

And speaking of walking, I better get going.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  AMY, please be sure it's Canadian Snow when it starts coming down!

I am so late....that seems to be my natural state these days....but, I want to wish you a belated happy birthday, Shirley, and I know you will have many more.

We have those dratted gum ball trees here, too.  They just grow naturally here and I don't think anyone plants them on purpose.  Just be careful walking near them because if you step on one of the gum balls it could roll under your feet and cause a fall.  I had 2 of them cut down a couple years ago but we still get them on the driveway.  David hates having to clean up the gum balls.

Take care, All.

Jane, snow is falling at the moment. The white fluffy snow has changed into wet snow...

Managed to pick up flour for my friend but no 1 lb packs of yeast in the stores. Will share what I have and pick us both some up when we go to the city.

Seems no one corralled the dust kangaroos so I had better get at it..

Phyllis, going to look up gum ball tree..

editied to add....hokey teddy bear....they look awful. Can't imagine stepping on them in bare feet!!! Do animals eat the gum balls? Can the gum balls be used for anything? They look like a burr only bigger and more menacing!

Jackie, I laughed so hard at the grumpy cat I had tears rolling down my face. Looks exactly how I feel this morning!  Thank you for waking me up!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Phyllis, never too late. My son found a "gatherer" for those gum balls at Ace Hardware, just roll it along the ground & they hop into the cage & there is a lever to push to open the wires to dump them when it's full. The 3 kids had a ball filling it & also used different size rakes that piled them up & those big plastic scoops to pick up big piles to dump into the bags. I stood & watched for a while since it was above 40degrees. Even with oxygen I struggle to move much so didn't get to play with them.

Amy, tis true that they can flip you over just stepping on them. Would not think of stepping on bare foot. I was never around these trees before this house so no idea what a mess they are.... grow fast & nice shade... so always a trade off.

Have a great day, daughter on her way so better get moving!

The snow has now turned to rain..not a welcomed sight for sure. Doves landed for a fill up before tucking themselves into the pine braches..out of rain and into warmth.

Shirley, those gum balls look deadly if stepped upon. Looks  like they have hard spines/prickles on them???

I was talking to my cousin, who grew up outside Oklahoma City before moving to Colorado Springs, about gumballs. Her folks used them around the garden to protect the young plants from pests. She also said they were suitable for wound care but didn't remember the hows and whys.

I spent the morning scrubbing down the doors and walls of my bathroom after cleaning it. Alan was airlifted to the hospital last night as his flu became pneumonia. Dora followed with a neighbor who had a truck able to traverse the slick roads, and he, his wife, and sons would look after the place and animals while they were gone.

Alan's in his late eighties, so this is concerning, and since I cannot do anything, I tackled the painted walls and doors of my bathroom but still feel frustrated.

Thanks for that link. I read, saved, and sent it to my sister and cousin.

I admit to not wanting the other families and Alan wanting to sell at this time to have to sell, but I would love to be able to see everyone more often.

I read link about the sweet gum trees and I know ours didn't take many years before the little balls showed up. Cas was looking out the window over the sink where the tree is planted & got all excited when he saw the first spikey ball at the top. We have two trees across the street in different yards (another house between) and both of their yards are covered with the little balls so guess all sweet gums produce them. My yard is covered with little trees every spring & I used to take a sharp knife & wiggle the dirt around & pull the plants up & then into a clay pot to transplant when they got bigger. Couldn't count how many I gave away.

Thanks for the tip & card, Bubble, sure looks like my Tom!

I looked up the sweet gum trees when you first mentioned them because I knew I'd seen some at a place I was and now I think it might have been near Cindy's place in Texas or maybe when she lived in Maryland.

I spent the day doing paper work today.  All my bills are taken care of for this month and my bank account is up to date.  I do hate that job.  I like to spend the money but I don't like to account for it!  I don't know how I managed to give birth to, and raise two accountants!  And two others who are very good at math!

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  No Cooper tonight so I'll have the whole bed to myself!  I kind of miss the snugglers!  I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one.

OOPS!  Forgot to say "HELLO, PHYLLIS!  I missed you!

Friends didn't make it here yesterday but will later today. I am going to make raisin bread and hope to have it done in time to send some home with them.

Jane, it is nice to have the whole bed to be able to strecth your legs but also nice to have a cuddle bunny in bed with you. Both these lay at the bottom of the bed so my legs are curled it seems up to my chin. If one leaves then I get to strech out.

Patricia, hope Allen is feeling better today..

Better get crackin'

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

edited to say GOOD MORNING JANE.

French nun Sister André, the world's oldest known person, died on Tuesday in the southern city of Toulon, France, her spokesperson announced. She was 118. Born as Lucile Randon on February 11, 1904, Sister André dedicated most of her life to religious service and was the oldest nun to ever live, according to the Guinness World Records.

Well, Bubble, your post prompted me to Google my old lady (Jeanne Louise Calment) and the tale is really true about her (I thought maybe I had fallen for fiction). Found much more to read about her on Google, interesting life she led, as well as the one you posted about. Sadly, I truly did think I might beat the record but not as I am now. Still a good life with no regrets.

Lloyd, all those things we used to do are not OUR real world today, but the desire to do them is still in our head. I completely understand so am now trying to find someone that will love all these things we worked so hard for, difficult job.

Youngest son comes by for a visit on Wednesdays so I got out some old letters & papers for him to look out. All these things must be saved for the next generation and I want to make sure they will go to the right person. Have the original passports that came from France in 1855, have some old land grants, letters from my father's cousin from during World War I... some letters from my gr-mother's cousin that lived in Nebraska, her father was captain of a river boat & was fairly well known in the old days. Lots of things saved from Dad's side but a few from Mother's as well.  And I also have old cameras (35mm) & the original digital cameras that no longer are used. How sad, nobody interested in any of the cameras with the phone cameras that work so well.  Such is life.

Good morning; we're back at the sixes again today, except today's six is a minus when the others were all pluses. The following forecasted snow will be in February, although all the expected January snows went elsewhere.

Lloyd, I have enough money to do what needs to be done rather than what I would like to have done. Each time I get a little ahead, something else crops up with its hand out!

Amy, Alan's doctor, will see if he can breathe independently in the next few days. Dora will be getting supplemental oxygen, they're setting it up today, and she will move temporarily into guest quarters attached to the hospital for patients' families.

I don't think I would be able to de-clutter with friends as my style is to get everything out, clean the entire room, and then blitz through what's trashed, stays, or gets donated. If I had company, I would do more socializing than cleaning.

Jane, I know you're having a good time today! Enjoy your time with Cooper.

Shirley, mom, and dad didn't have much to leave to us as most was sold for medical bills and care during the mid-nineties. I'm sure it would be several times more expensive now.

Patricia, that is encouraging news on Allan, good that Dora is close by to keep an eye on also. Not as nice as home but a safe place to be in. Something else always crops up and has its hands out.

Almost to scared to say it but the snow has held off for now. I saw to the south of us they are getting rain.....just rain not freezing..yet. Noticed the birds are in hiding, not coming out for the seed.

Good morning..
We did get a mixed bag of weather yesterday, rain, snow then ice pellets but nothig really to worry about. More snow on the way today they say. Not enough snow out there to warrant a dance.

Friends stopped yesterday and we exchanged goodies. We now have a huge bag of fresh garlic about 5-6 lbs of it!! I think I will try planting some come Spring.

Not sure what will happen today, nothing planned and will take the day  as it comes.

Patricia, I had to look up the species  and found that snook is very tasty fish ,what a great catch for that man!

Jane, does your WM still sell fabric by the bolt? Ours used to but doesn't now.

Better get going ,day is moving faster than I am.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I have a minute or two while Christy is on the phone with her husband.  Cooper and I just got back from our morning walk and I'm having a little breakfast and seconds on the coffee.  I'm off to the showers when I'm finished here.

AMY, I don't know if our WM still sells bolts of material.  I haven't tried to do that for a long time.  In fact, I had Christy go through the material that I have stashed around and take whatever she wants.  I think my sewing days are over.  I can't see what I'm doing when I'm doing it!  Darn eyes!  Of course, I can find out if you're looking for something to send David to pick up for you!

LLOYD, I've also met Sam Walton face-to-face!  He visited our store and he made his way around and introduced himself to each employee!  It thought that was pretty special!  Then when I visited the first WM store they said that I had just missed him.  I told them to tell him that one of their best workers in the Lewisburg, PA store said "Hello"!

Now I'm off to the showers!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but but not as good as tomorrow!

We're going to try to do a meeting for lunch with my son...Christy's twin brother.  Sunday is the only day he has off since he has an appliance store in town.

I picked up a "dog lifter" for Babe but the way it goes on it will put pressure on girlies cancer..so it goes back. Kyle has built a ramp that hooks onto the side door of the van that makes it easier for her to get in. Getting older is not for sissies, including  dogs. Taking it one day at a time..

Good morning! It's minus 17 and sunny now, but yesterday afternoon until midnight, we had 2.4 inches of snow. Unfortunately, while it's supposed to warm again next week, no other snow is forecast.

Alan and Dora are both doing somewhat better; however, it will be slow with this flu and their ages. Alan has pneumonia, but it's not a severe case.

Jane, I know with Christy visiting, you will be so happy with her and Cooper!

Amy, my mother, had a room with three sewing machines and her loom. We donated a ton of fabric to a group that sewed for children and those in need. Then sold two machines and donated the older Singer from the second product assembly group, plus her loom, to the Pioneers' museum.  Everything went to her care; even with insurance, it was not enough.

We got the snow, not a lot but it does have to be dealt with. Will see what does and doesn't get done inside after the dance.

Patricia, when I was working my friend and I would hit the fabric sales and we did that quite often. :) So I do have a wee bit of a stash plus my machines..each one has a purpose. Your Mom's fabric went to a good cause .

Better get my dancin duds on..

Just a quick Good Morning Everyfriend!  Christy is in the shower and then she's going to her long-time friend's new house to help her get something done.  She has trimmed my hair and saved me a trip to the "haircuttery".

After she leaves, I'm jumping in the shower and getting other clothes on for the day!  We're going to Cathy's for supper today!  And I'm washing some bathroom and kitchen rugs.  While I took the one in the bathroom out to shake out the hairs, Christy swept up and her sweeping took her down the hall and into the kitchen.  So maybe after she leaves I'll got out the swiffer and wash up a couple areas.  The kitchen in in dire need and I'm sure the bathroom and hall can take it!

I've had breakfast, took Cooper for his morning walk andI'm having my second cup of coffee while Christy is in the shower!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Farrah makes sure I'm up at her breakfast time, and we both had showers afterward so I can have my coffee and a visit here.  My life is so full these cold days...It's hard to find time to fit all the joy in.  ::)

My day was not of dance....since there was a mist falling we decided to leave well enough alone. Had I taken the snow away it would have turned into a skating rink and that is not really needed in the driveway. Wood brought in and waltz with the vacuum cleaner chasing dust kangaroos and now bread on the rise. Will go fold laundry in a few minutes. All these fun chores , it is really hard to contain the excitement :))

I did manage to get a vet appointment  for Babe on Wed....sure hope the storm stays away..

Amy, I didn't realize Babe was having such health issues...  I am so sorry, they really are our babies even if they don't look like us!  We are being warned again that bad weather is on the way, think it's been promised so much nobody believes.

Jane, I've cut my own hair since at least 8th grade, let it grow out a few times for special reasons but always so thick & coarse it had a life of it's own. Love having the kids around but takes days of R&R after they leave to get over the rush-rush.

Farrah really gets a shower, Patricia?  I'd love to clean up Tiger but think she'd pack her bags & leave me. She is between 14-15 years old, her mother weaned her in our back yard so not sure how old when we first saw them.  She doesn't go out much these days, just sits in the pool area to watch her world. All the years of rolling in the dirt she didn't sleep on my bed but I would love to clean her up. Do you use a special cat shampoo?

Rick, been dark & dreary quite a bit here so the lights everyone has outside that should re-charge during the day do not stay on long after dark. I have lots of candles if the power goes out, always stock up after Christmas when they are half price or less, who cares if they are red or green in the dark!  ;)

Lloyd, I also carry a debit card & have been letting my daughter pay the utility bills for me before SHE takes over the house. One utility charges extra if using a debit card so the bank advised using the other method/ don't remember the term (routing number?). Have a checking account with another bank but have never used it so trying to keep things as simple as possible.  At least I don't have to write the checks & put postage on. She is starting to feel like this is "home", not where the kids grew up but we moved in here in Sept.1988. I think we have paper work all done except for selling the motorhome & I have not advertised that yet. My head keeps thinking we need "one more trip".  :-\

So here we are, another week of winter. Daughter got home to flowers popping out of the ground! Have a new bird at the feeder so think it may have lost it's way during the migration. If I can get a photo of it thru the window I'll send to Bubble. That window needs to be cleaned inside & out, OUT may not get it but I'll work on IN tomorrow. I may need another nap before bedtime!

Shirley, I apologize for not being clear. Farrah managed her own bath. However, in the past, with cats particularly smelly or dirty, I have used special pet wipes by Petkin; they make both body and ear wipes. Ingredients are pure witch hazel, aloe vera gel, chlorhexidine Gluconate, and botanical extracts.

There are various pet shampoos on the market and in veterinary offices. A fellow long-term foster parent massages his cats, and they love it, purring and flopping to get their treat!

Chlorhexidine gluconate for humans is a germicidal mouthwash that reduces bacteria in the mouth. Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse is used to treat gingivitis (swelling, redness, bleeding gums). A dentist usually prescribes chlorhexidine gluconate. Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse is not for treating all types of gingivitis.

This is an animal version for cats and is used on their coats and not teeth, altho you can buy toothpaste for a cat or dog. Some folks use Johnson's baby shampoo on their pets.

Farrah is used to me handling her. I've been at this for twenty years since November and have special holds for pets, so she accepts it while letting me know it isn't preferred. We've been together since 2016, and she'll be eleven in September, so she knows what battles are and aren't important.

Good morning..

No new snow overnight but it is coming in the next two days."A Texas low is expected to bring snow to southern Ontario late Wednesday into Thursday," reads the statement. "Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are possible, with locally higher amounts of up to 20 cm."

Environment Canada warns that there will be reduced visibility while driving and rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.  We are to head north on Wed then south on Thur for appointments but we shall see.

Nothing planned but lots to do here.

Shirley, growing old is no fun for our furkids either. Babe has lots of "bumps" on her but the one growing back of her front leg is a concern. With covid we have only been able to pass our dog over to a vet tech and wait outside for the results but this time I am going in. There are too many questions I want answers for so that has been arranged.Did you picture both Patricia and Farrah with shower caps on? :2funny:

Time to get the day started....

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Haha, Amy, I did picture Farrah going into the shower with Patricia, my son's cats do that now & then with their people slaves.  Our German Shepherd got those bumps all over her during the last few years, vet said "just fatty tissue"... I guess the best we can do for our furbabies is to hope for less pain and see the love in their eyes as we talk to them every day. Hurts the heart watching them suffer, hugs to you.

Patricia, I think I will just let Tiger do her own clean up... been yelling at her to quit doing so much because she coughs up furballs & usually only after eating the dry indoor food that is supposed to have everything they need. I did find a good use for all those political cards mailed out before any election... make great scoopers & just drop the cards & mess in the trash!  Works great on these hardwood floors, but still have to do a lot more scrubbing on the rest of the house white carpet!  I've got more brands of carpet cleaner than I knew they made a few years ago, but the "elbow grease" is missing.

Lloyd, I check my Fitbit first thing in the morning to see if I got any sleep, it does tell me how my oxygen level was all night, heart rate, & other stuff. I've never known anyone that gets as much amazing care from doctors as you do.

Haven't had breakfast yet, am thinking the bears have a good plan, just eat enough to sleep all winter and come out hungry!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Well, here I am alone in my home with just little Cooper for company!  Christy is probably about 2/3 of the way home right now and I missed her before she cleared the driveway!

I've got most of the stuff put back to where it belongs and a load of laundry ready for the washer.  I still didn't get the swiffer out and do the hall and kitchen but it's on my list.  And it's almost time for my second walk with Cooper.  I'm going to put the laundry in first!

I told you before that Christy trimmed my hair.  This morning, before she left, she trimmed my toenails!  So she has attended to the top and the "way down there" parts of my person!

I think I might get some reading done later today...maybe not until Cooper goes home with his Mommy around 4:45 but we'll see.  I'm reading a book I borrowed from Christy's husband about the escape of Union prisoners from a Confederate prison in Richmond.  It's really interesting and it's a true account.  There are notes from prisoners that are recovered from their journals.  Unfortunately, it's not large print so it's taking me longer.  I can't stay with the regular print as long as I do with the large.

AMY, we're supposed to get that snow here beginning early tomorrow morning.  It's predicting 8 to 10 inches.  I hope they're wrong and they change their minds before that!

Now, I better get back to work and get something accomplished!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning, its minus three at 7:55 am and snow is here,

FireShot Capture 044 - 99701, Fairbanks, AK winter weather map - Microsoft Weather - www.msn.jpg

I can just see Farrah with a shower cap, I'm picturing yellow butterflies on the cap. Some cats like water, and some don't, depending on the breed or mix. For me, it depends on what they've been into. My worst problem with Farrah is also why all my plants are inaccessible on top of a six-foot shelf with no close launching furniture. Most indoor houseplants are poisonous to cats and or dogs.

My daughter has two cats and numerous indoor plants.  She carefully researches each plant before she considers buying it. They do like to dig in the vases or containers.  Every now and then she finds toothprints in a leaf, but obviously they didn't like the taste or would have eaten the whole thing! They both like to shower with her, and each of them has a weird penchant for "tastes" of human food.  The calico loves spinach and cheese, the other one likes a bit of butter served on a fingertip!

oops, missed the break point for the size, color, etc.

Heading to bed early, or plan to.  Still have some dishes to wash (can you believe I hate waiting on the dish washer & haven't used it for so long I'm afraid to use now. Think my daughter will be doing a whole kitchen make over, at least that's why I didn't bother doing a half way job. I just didn't want the mess.  Had the hardwood floor put down right after Cas died & that was not a fun couple weeks!  The crew that installed wanted the wood in the house for a couple weeks before installing, said they wanted it to adjust to the humidity.

No snow on the ground but supposed to hit & miss all night. I do hope we get enough cold weather to kill the bugs, but afraid this might be a year with things that come up too early & freeze back. My surprise lilies didn't bloom this year so they may not come up at all.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. She was born at a military base in South Ruislip, England in 1956. Seems like yesterday, turned out to be a pretty nice person. :smitten:

Good morning..

We did have a light dusting of snow during the night, now if it would only hold off till after the vet appointment. Will fill in the morning with putzing about, then on the road for an hour to the vet.

Shirley ,we also asked clients to climatize the wood flooring  when doing a job.

Jane ,we are also to get a gift of snow but hope it holds off!!

Patricia, I will take your 1 - 2 inches and may have our 8+ inches. One can only hope the weather folks are wrong.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Today is going to be wash and change the bed day and stay home!  I might not eve get dressed!  Oh well, I guess I better get dressed, just in case!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Don't hear that term much any more.
The long predicted snow for this morning has been un-predicted. Looks like the day will warm up too much before the rain gets here to make it snow. That's good because I have to go out later. I'm to the point where I no longer like snow.  :(

Good late morning from the Interior at minus ten and 9:09 am. Jane, we had snow yesterday and expect more early on Thursday, which has and will cover that dangerous ice out there. I can't tell you how many people report falls, slips, and slides and how many fender benders we've had.

Not much is going on here; I did a lot of cleaning again yesterday late afternoon. My house has never been this clean for so long, and I need to find something else to take my frustrations out on.

We are also getting the snow and lots of it!! The vet appointment went better than thought...Babe has lipoma , not just all over but in clumps. The one I was concerned about is behind her front leg and about 7 inches long and 3 inches wide. I asked if it was cancer and vet said no,just  lipoma (fatty tissue.) Phewwwwwwww

Driving wasn't too bad but must admit I am glad to be home and off the roads. Snow has picked up and I do bellieve 8-9 inches will be looking at us come morning..just hope it is light and fluffy to dance to.

Rick, my putzing was  to prepare vegetables for supper tonight, fill up the wood box in house, go get another load of wood to have here close by and fold some laundry..

Amy, --- Several years ago my son and I went into a hardware store where he knew most of the employees, and they him. On the way out the girl at the checkout off handedly said "what ya been doing?". My son said "Oh just putzin around". The girl responded "I didn't think anyone did that any more."  Funny how some terms just seem  to come and go.

I still putz around and I still describe it that way.  My one daughter says she putzes around but she never does.  She's always accomplishing something.  Sometimes my putzing gets absolutely nothing done and makes me very tired!

I'm off to the haystack now!  Our snow lasted about 2 hours and then turned to rain so there's not a lot of it to deal with.  The roads have been cleared so traffic is moving again.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good snowy morning...

Well Jane, we are looking at 10 inches of fluffy snow this morning and it is still coming down. Thankfully it is not the wet snow to move. Talked with David last night around 7 and they had 6 inches of snow at that time, goodness knows what they have now. They are to the south of us and they were to get hit harder.

You know what my job is today, can't go out in my running shoes to do this one. Kyle made me a boot jack to get my winter working boots off as they are a stinker to get off.

Better skedaddle and get to work.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

A pot of pea soup is simmering on the cookstove and custard cooling in the fridge..not sure what else is going to happen.....need to find some energy first.

I'm heading for the haystack soon.  It's been a long, busy day.  Cooper and I took 3 walks today!  And I made a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys" so breakfast is ready!

I have 3 pints of my chicken rice soup made from the leftovers.  Frankie wants to take one home with her tomorrow and that's good.  I had one for supper tonight so that leaves two.  Anyone want to try it?  This is probably the one and only time this soup will be available because I used up a lot of leftovers to make it and I probably will never have the same leftovers again!

I also have three meat loaf and scalloped potato dinners in the freezer for later.  Th's more of the leftovers from company!

Now I'm getting excited about my new great grandson's birth.  My granddaughter is scheduled for a Ceasarean Section on the 31st.  Please include her in your prayers that everything will go well!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I almost forgot...the snow is almost all gone from here.  The only part the rain didn't do away with is the part the snow plows made hills of!

Good morning..

Starting out a tad chilly this morning at +7°F. Working around home today, nice there is no new snow to deal with but Sat and Sun may have snow.

Jane, rarely do I follow a recipe for soup. Whatever I have on hand hits the pot.Your sound sounds delicious, you can say one of a kind. :) We have pea soup for today and I had better make raisin bread, Kyle is down to the last little bit on the loaf!!

Patricia, any more new snow your way? Our banks are getting a bit high here and one has to be careful when driving out onto the road or you will get your nose wiped!!

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

AMY, is the recipe for raisin bread in the recipe folder?  I've been looking at bread recipes for a couple of days now and that's the first one to tempt me.

We were supposed to be getting a bit more snow overnight but it didn't happen.  That makes a happy start for the new day!

I'll be getting a call from Frankie any minute that she's on the way so I'll wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning; another late start for me today. Amy, we had another two inches, which makes four total from the two storms, and I'm not sure what amount, if any, stuck. It's minus 12 and clear with some warming, plus snow and ice due on Saturday.

Nothing new here; the only news with Alan and Dora is they're not getting any worse. Their son has arrived from Iowa.

Patricia, good to hear that Alan and Dora are not getting worse. When we get up in years it takes us a big longer to get out pins back under us. They are in a good place and close to each other.

Lightly snowing here, and more to come in the next few days..oh boy.
Raisin bread is cooling and will tuck some in the hidy hole...grab your choose of beverage, tea, coffee, milk and enjoy.

Good morning..

Dancing today, so far 3 more inches and more snow to follow today. Windy, making snow drifts to play with.Laundry will have to wait till the dance is done.

Shirley, I would take your 50° as we are at 23° and I would imagine Patricia is in the minuses.

Lloyd,good to see you.

Jane, to me the best part of the bread is the heel. My friend got me eating the crust, buttered with green onions on it and salt and pepper.  Could make a meal out of that!! Has to be the crust though.

Patricia, I have first dibs on Shirley's 50° :2funny:

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

We're at plus 13 for now; however, this week and next will bounce between pluses and minuses. Sunday will be hosting a chnook wind and then,

Snow has been cleaned up but not without problems......I broke not one.......not two.. but three sheer pins. :knuppel2:
One was an easy fix but the other two(same place) were a stinker to get at. I have no idea how a man with large hands could get in such a tiny space to fix it. The last one was because someone (Jesse) in this family didn't bring the stick of wood in but left it on the path to which the snow covered it up. Oh well tis all good now..

Patricia, we are still in for more snow and on Sunday  also..
Not sure I can hang my laundry out now with all the snow!

I just gobbled down a Raisin Bread roll made in my large muffin tin.  And the raisins I had were not usable...too old (just like me!)  So I used the fresh dried cranberries.  I guess I didn't eat raisin bread!  I ate Cranberry Muffin.  Whatever it was, it was scrumptious and I'm going back for seconds!

I have one regular size loaf, two small loaves and 6 muffins!  And if you're lucky (and I feel generous)there will be at least one loaf in the bread box at The Soda Shoppe for you all to try!

Now I'm off to the kitchen for seconds.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

PATRICIA, I have something on my mind besides the weather!

P.S. to SHIRLEY...Cindy wants to come up and take me to OKla. again this summer but she says "earlier".  If she does, I'm thinking about asking her to make the trip pass through Wichita around - breakfast, lunch, brunch time.  If it works out, could you recommend a place we could stop and could you join us?  She mentioned April.  Think on it and let me know if it might be a possibility!  Seems a shame to go so close and not get a hug!

AMY, I'm going to try that with the raisins and then just eat them.  They're good for me!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1 , 2023

Jane, much as I'd love a hug I don't think I will be around. Not sure how long this phase lasts, I don't see my doctors often 'cause I won't let them do what they want & can't take the meds....so they just ignore me.  Sure not offered the care my mother or Cas' mother got! I was told that Hospice here doesn't do any "physical" care but they can talk or visit, run a load of clothes or go to the store... kinda useless in my opinion!  "You can hire private nurses", I was told. I am trying not to say anything as insulting as I feel about the medical help in this city! This has been a bad day. I do hope you get to visit your kids in OK and will enjoy thinking about seeing you, but reality is setting in. If here I will have something cooked for you to try, that's a promise!

Amy, I used to fix everything like you & enjoyed doing it. Now I'm happy to get through the house without my oxygen hose tangling on something! Need to get a bite to eat & go back to bed.

The temps are going down & wind blowing, thank goodness for storm windows & doors. Sweet dreams to all.

Well, my dance partner wants to continue today..there is snow falling on top of the 3 inches that fell during the night. So much for a day of rest..
I guess I should be thankful that I can deal with it and it is not freezing rain.

Supper will be a bbq chicken from Costco ,caulifower with cheese sauce and salad. That much is thought of but not the dessert???? Maybe a pineapple upside down cake with a scoop of ice cream...will see how it goes with the dance if the dessert is made.

Shirley, dig your heels in  and get a Dr that will listen to you! Giving in or up is not an option. I am told Jane gives good hugs......just ask my son!!

Jane, now you have me really wanting to try the crasins, I am going to tell Bri and my friend about using them instead of raisins.

From December through January, we've managed with icy surroundings and little to no snow. Several times we've been promised snow, and each time it was a no-show, and the ice and cold continued. Last night was supposed to be three to five inches, and it went somewhere but not here, so the slips and slides continue.

The dance is done, easy to move and all trails are cleaned for the dogs also!!

Patricia....no-show, you mean no-snow :)) I really dislike the slippery conditions. Be careful out there!

Jane, now you have started something. Told Bri about your crasin bread and she told me you can get blueberry and cherry craisins! What a mixture that would be to throw all three into the bread.

Shirley, this is too early for the robins. What will they eat? Do you have mountain ash with berries or crab apple trees around that they will eat?

My feet are going to be put up...

Amy, all the bushes that had berries are gone so I've been Googling to see what else I can put out. Could eat the holly berries but haven't checked to see if any still on it.  I will put out some raisins next time I see it, so it knows I am offering.  I forgot that Rick mentioned playing catch with his robin... with raisins. Hope it/they have a warm spot for tonight, with our wind it is brutal. Had a whole flock of starlings for a while & think the robin may have come with them. Only got ONE photo of the robin in the tree, the starlings were checking out the food on the ground I put out for other critters but robin didn't even come down to check. They all enjoyed the bird bath warmer so will need to fill that big clam shell on the ground again tomorrow.

I plan to go to bed early in hopes of more deep sleep. SO, sweet dreams & God Bless all.

Shirley,  there was a big flock of robins around my yard about a week ago. Maybe they've flown to your area.
I didn't put anything out for them but they were busy pecking around in my yard for several days. I have no idea where they spent the nights.

The past several weeks have been "one thing after another" - mostly pleasant but time consuming.

Car wouldn't start one afternoon and AAA had to replace the battery. The repairman had the correct battery when he arrived because of the dispatcher asking me details about the make/model/etc. of the car. He was also here within 40 minutes of when I called.

#2 son had his 3rd back surgery to remove all the hardware that had been put in with the previous one because the bones had knit together like they were supposed to. Doctor said a screw on one side of the old set was a bit far out and probably causing the terrific pain down his right leg.  He is now pain free and his recuperation is mainly not lifting, stooping, reaching, etc. because of the incision.
I made three casseroles and two desserts for them.  Discovered that the cartons for the Bob Evans mashed potatoes are a perfect size for that sort of thing.  Plus -- they're microwave safe and can go in the top rack of the dishwasher.  I'll begin saving them for such occasions.

My church furnishes two apartments at a home for abused women/children and, when they are able to be on their own they get to take everything with them.  The January mission project was to furnish supplies for these apartments.  I notified sons and the parents of The Grands brought over three big boxes of household items from the Grands having moved into their own places.  I had a complete set of bedding for twin beds I no longer have - so we made quite a haul to the church one afternoon.

Miss Emily invited me to go with her/her mother to shop for bridal gowns. I didn't realize there were so many styles! 3+ hours in two shops about wore me out but it was fun.

Also had a nice visit from Sir Carson and his girlfriend.  I had met her at family gatherings but this was the first time I'd had a chance to visit with her individually. She's a neat gal and we all hope this leads into something permanent.  She has moved to Texas with him and is working at a branch of the company she worked for here.  Guess I made a good impression because shortly after they left she "invited" me to become her friend on Facebook.  Of course, I accepted.

And that's what's going on in my world. Stay warm, stay safe and Enjoy your Days, Everyfriend.

I loved all the postings!  CALLIE, lots going on in your neck of the woods!  You do have an active family.  And it was so nice of them to take you wedding dress shopping!  What fun that must have been!

AMY, thank you for keeping the snow on your side of the border.  And thank you for the idea for my next bread baking.  I gave Cathy one of the small loaves when she picked me up this morning and she texted me around 2:30 that it was very good but it was all gone!

PATRICIA, than you for keeping all that ice in Alaska!  I'd find it hard to walk my Great Granddoggie if it decided to come here!

Today wasn't a particularly busy one.  I was doing stuff all day but if you asked me what, I'd be hard-pressed to say exactly what!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  My eyes are beginning to enter the "clunk shut" stage.  I had to keep them open to watch a movie on TV tonight so they're ready!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I'm up but I'm not sure if I'm ATTEM yet!  I didn't sleep well last night.  I must have been awake 5 or 6 times during the night.  I can't remember when the last time was that I slept all night!

AMY, have a safe trip to the city and back and a good report from the dr.

I'm having my breakfast in front of the computer (Jim's Egg Thingy and coffee)  Cooper was supposed to be here by 7 this morning but they changed Frankie's shift to a later one so she said that she might spend the night here since tomorrow is still an early one!  Sometimes, when she spends the night, I get a bedfellow!  We'll see about that.

It's 39º already this morning an heading for a high of 51.  I think I can take that!  And it means that Cooper will spend a lot of time in the yard!

I wonder what's on my agenda for today!  Have a good day, Everyfriend...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Lloyd --- To make the fonts BOLD, click on the B above and to the left. Do it before you type.
You will see [ b] and [ /b] in the box you type in. The cursor  should be between them when you start typing.

Hey, Rick, I was trying to remember how to "dump the cache". using duck-duck Google Chrome, what else do I need to tell you?  Can't remember when I did it so not sure if necessary these days, is it?

Been meaning to ask why is says "Show IP address" below Location: Kansas.  How/why is that there?

Hello Everyfriend!  I've been busy again and I don't know what I did all day.  Some stuff got done because I have a basket of clothes to go to the used clothing collection and there's stuff for the recycling and food in the fridge...  I guess I did that stuff.  I don't think Cooper did it and he's the only other one who was here all day!

Frankie is here overnight and will be off to work tomorrow to be there at 7 a.m.  Cathy is picking me up sometime for a trip to Davy's and I have my list ready to go.  So tomorrow will be another day!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

Another chilly day -16° out there now. Working around home today but first need to nip into town to pick up sheer pins at the Cub Cadet dealer.

Yesterday was a long day but all went well. I had to really work at staying awake so I could watch Beyond Oak Island and then Oak Island. Both are so intersting and I enjoy watching.

Janie, thank you for safe travels, we had reasonably clear roads, noticed on the way home the highway worked were high winging the snow banks(taking the tops off) so more snow to follow would have a place to go when plowed.

Time to get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Oak Island shows here on Tuesdays. So tonight is our turn. My son and I will be on it at 8:00 and 9:00.

Good morning everyone!

We've had no real snow but lots of ice for most of January. This is despite numerous doomsday snow forecasts and warnings of violent clashing storms of highs and low pressures. Through all of this, we had frigid temperatures, clear skies, and perhaps 0.1 inches of snow.

Yesterday was the latest doomsday forecast of a two-day snow of five to seven inches. It did warm up into the plus twenties and gave us cloudy skies to hold the warmth in, but only 0.4 inches of snow.

And February, normally our coldest month is now forecast to remain in the teens and twenties and to snow almost every day. I'm going to be digging out my most arctic gear.

Patricia, we are to get -39 ° on Fri......doesn't that just warm the cockles of your heart! One good thing about it may not get more snow

Rick , I enjoy both shows, another one I watched was about the Bermuda Triangle and what went down in that area. Haven't watch that one in a while, they may have taken it off the air???

Jane, did you have a good time at Davy's?

Amy, it would be about all it warmed!

I spent the day roaming around the internet as it's too icy to roam around town.

Alan and Dora were moved into a recovering patients' house that is attached to the hospital near the patients' family building that Dora was at initially. They probably will not be able to go home so his son is looking into in-town housing while his nephews are making plans along with a local friend to pack, clean, store items, and renovate the property prior to listing it for sale. The animals remain for now at the neighbors and the cats with his son.

Hello!  While Cooper and I were out on our morning walk a large V of geese flew over.  They were going in a Northwest direction.  I wonder if they know something we don't know about the coming weather.?

We have a new baby!  He's healthy and strong and Allison is doing fine!  I think he looks a lot like his brother Mikey when he was born!

The trip to Davy's was good.  I filled in the gaps in the cupboard and fridge and Cathy says she's planning a trip to the Amish grocer on Thursday.  I think I'll go along.  There are some things I need that Davy's doesn't carry...like klenex, paper towels, ice cream ( REALLY NEED that).

Tomorrow is a day off.  Frankie doesn't work so I won't have Cooper.  I think I'll work on the kitchen cupboards.  YUK!  I don't think I'm going to like that job!

And now, I'm going to head for the haystack!  My eyes have already entered the "clunk shut" stage!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one.

But before I go to bed I'm going to look up Oak Island.  I don't think I've ever seen it.
