The night didn't diminish the hurt!  I can imagine a bit of how his family feels.  They are such a close knit group! Two of our dearest friends gone in a matter of days!  As someone said (I think AMY) Hal and Jeanne are probably having a hug and will find their way around together.

Today is going to be a "do as I please" day!  I'm not going to do anything I don't feel like doing and I might not even do some of the things I do feel like doing.  How's that for contrariness?

Enjoy your day!  Love your family!  Eat what pleases you! Do what your feel like doing!  Remember our friends!

Jane,  I like all the things you said.

When I first started living by myself., it took me a very long time to realize that I was only responsible for myself.  And, if I didn't feel like doing something,  I really didn't have to do. (That is most of the time)   I have lots of days like that.

Good morning everyone, Looks like it will be a nice day here. Then I do not think any of us here in the SS will be happy today. Got an email last night about Hal. So hard to believe. Last post from him he said something about going home. He asked for anyone to copntacct him on Skype. Lastnight I looked up his eamial address and was going to get in touch with him but thought I would do it this morning. Glad now I did not do it at the time. No more will I get email from him with jokes and laughs. Hard typing with tears rolling from my eyes.

AMY  I envy you and Shirley getting to see an eagle in the wlld. YES chocolate chip dookies and a tall glass of cold milk, anything better? Well maybe home made ginger snaps.

LARRY  how can one get rest in a hospital with all the activity and sleep is almost impossible. They wake you for something when you finally do fall asleep. Glad Pat does not have the flu but sorry your son does.

JUNE  as long as we wake in the morning and can still get out of bed on our own we are OK.

JANE  when my kids were young they asked for some chocolate chip cookies, always made a double batch, got half the cookies made and was worn out so the rest I spread in a cookie‪ sheet and made bars. Now days I laugh at how they have all kind of bars like they are something new. I sure remember Mairzy Doats.

DON  it is a shock to read that Hal died so suddenly. He wanted to go home and now he really is. We will all miss him. His family must be in shock about now.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link. Will check it out soon.

Now if ounly we would hear something about JOAN. I am do afraid because we have heard nothing in much too long.

In my prayers
Terri McPherson

As you make your way
through a fog of tears,
a landslide of heartache
and multiple fears,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

While God holds you safe
in the palm of His hand
and sends His angels
to help you stand,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

Each minute you long
for peace and rest,
courageously fighting
this willful test,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

When a ray of hope
pierces the night
and your faith is renewed
by the heavenly sight,

I'll drop to my knees
and thank the Lord
for the grace of prayer
and your spirit restored.

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be a lovely day getting up to 60 degrees and sunny.  I expect this to be a very quiet day of rest.  For the first time since I started using the oxygen at night I got up tired this morning.  I don't plan to go anywhere.  I think the medicine is working as she seems better this morning and isn't coughing as much.  Unfortunately our son does have the flu but did get to the doctor's office quickly and got a prescription for the Tama-Flu medication.

June, I liked your thoughts regarding giving up driving.  You took a negative and turned it into a positive.

Jane, glad to see you had an easier shift.  I also would not like having to sell tobacco.  Do you have to do other checking out at that counter as well? If you have to go ahead and make some other type cookies besides chocolate chip.  :)  I do remember the song you mentioned.  My mother used to sing it on occasion when I was a child.  You deserve to be "contrary" once in a while.

Gloria, I don't care whether the chocolate chip are in cookies or in cookie bars they are still delicious.  Pat has made them like that in recent years as much easier than standing there dipping out individual cookies.

Don, as I mentioned in Norm's B&T, thanks for sharing the news with us and Bubble for providing additional information.  I am sitting here in sort of a state of shock but as my wife said when I mentioned he was a very Christian man that he had gone home to be with Christ. I am not sad for him but for his loving family and for the many of us that have been his friend for many years.

Lloyd, you are a fine and caring man and nice that you were up to help with the food distribution yesterday and then sharing what you got with some needy folks on your way home.

Shirley

I saw the news last night, about Hal, but too stunned to say anything.  I can only imagine how sad all of his family (including his "pup" is this morning...  he just oozed with love for all of them & not at all bashful about saying it.  Thanks, Don & Bubble for bringing the news.

Larry, glad Pat is a little better.  I checked on my son & brother-in-law, both had that awful cough this week & both too stubborn to see a doctor.  Both cases I suggested they get extra sleep so their bodies can heal faster.  Hope you can get an extra nap today as well, you have done extra duty with Pat being sick and like my mother used to say, "you can't take care of someone else unless you take care of yourself first"....

Hugs for everyone this morning.  Supposed to be nice weather so must get jobs taken care of outside, I'd rather go back to bed.

Denver

I, too, read the shocking news of our Hal’s passing last night, and just
sat here in silence!  I had him at home with his wife settling in for a well needed rest after the hospital stay.  Thank you, Don, for sharing this news, as much as I wish you did not have to!

I have very mixed emotions about it happening at his home.....bless his dear wife and his entire loving family.

LARRY, it is good to read that Pat is doing better this morning.  I am sure glad she did go in and get seen.  Please give her my best wishes that she will continue to feel better.

DON, I am sad that your driving days have come to an end, but know that you have made a good decision.

We are off to attend our granddaughters dance competition today at Denver University.  Unfortunately our grandsons will be participating in his Pinewood Derby for Scouts at the very same time, in the opposite direction.....I do not like to make these choices of what to attend.

One week from today we will be in Sunny California attending our son’s wedding.  The weather is going to be great so we are very thankful as it is a beach wedding.

Last minute change...we are now going to the Pinewood Derby.....

Hugs to EVERYFRIEND today as we all think about the loss of two wonderful friends that can no longer be with us.

Pat, I've been thinking of you as well as Hal & Jeanne Lee today, and am sending a special hug to you for "saving us all" when Senior Net dumped us.  Sadness hurts more when you have not been up to par, so I am concerned for you, the "mother" of Seniors & Friends.  My sincere sympathy for your physical pain as well as the pain of losing dear friends.  God Bless and give you Peace in Your Heart.

And I will echo Janie's "God Bless Us, Everyone!"

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's still below freezing this morning but supposed to get into the 40s today.  I'm going to try to go to church this morning.  I missed last Sunday because of the contrary car!  I wish everyone a better day today than yesterday and one that is not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone...

Our temp is rising 24 ° at the moment. Snow has disappeared off of the driveway and with the rain coming I am sure a lot will go off the field. Today is a day of rest.

Janie, I could use a better day today..wasted yesterday other than doing laundry..no baking done :(

Pat, prayers heading your way for a speedy recovery.

Callie, I will miss your bets with Hal, it was always fun to see who won.

Larry ,glad Pat is feeling better and hope by now your son is also.

Gloria, one day closer to Spring, I hope your son has better luck with his apple trees this year.

Shirley, humans know what has happened but Hal's pup doesn't and will be searching for him for a while .

Joy, hope you are ok???

Lloyd, enjoy your Sunday.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, Amy, Jane and Lloyd.   Not quite sure what it looks like outside my window right now.  Supposed to be in the 40's to low 50's later today.
And not as much sunshine as yesterday.  I did stick my nose outside yesterday and it wasn't too bad.  However, I am still waiting for a lot more warmer days.

Still feeling very sad about the loss of Hal.  I am sure everyone is still kind of in shock.  It was all way too quick.  Thoughts are still with his family. I am sure they are having a very difficult time right now.

I slept in a bit this morning, and now I am feeling hungry.  I plan on fixing an egg and I have a couple biscuits left from Friday's baking.

My DIL did pick up my groceries from Walmart yesterday. I always put the cold things away, but still have some of the other things to find a place for.  I did get some fresh string beans, that I plan to cook with some of the ham that I have left in the freezer from Christmas.  I ordered 2 lbs of beans, but it sure looks like a lot more.  I had my DIL get my bigger crock pot out of the cupboard, as I don't think they all will fit in the smaller one.  I do plan to share some with 2 of my sons.  Have not had any fresh string beans for a long time.  Looking forward to them.

Jane, do hope you will make it to church this morning.

Amy, do hope you have a better day today.

Pat, sorry to read that you are still not doing well.  I really miss seeing your messages.  Hope you will soon be feeling better.   Do you still go to your place down in Virginia?  (I think that was where it was??)

Larry, glad that your Pat is feeling better.

Hope everyone will have a good Sunday.

Hi Everyone. Hi Everyone.  We are expecting a very nice day with it getting into the mid-60's.  Yesterday was sort of a lost day as had no energy.  I am up and dressed for Sunday School and Church this morning and seem to be a bit more energetic and know it will do me good to get out and about. I recognize there is a danger of catching the flu by being around other people but just as likely chance that I won't. I will likely watch the pro football playoff games late this afternoon and this evening.  Pat seemed to be feeling better yesterday and my son texted that he was feeling a lot better but was weak and tired.

Shirley, I wish Pat would have agreed to go to the Prompt Care earlier but it is what it is and hopefully she now is on the road to recovery.  Hope your son and BIL's cough will soon be getting better. You are so right in how grateful we all should be for the kindness and Pat to provide this place for us to meet.

Lloyd, since it is hard for Pat to type with the broken arm I will just tell you that she fell in her kitchen some weeks ago and broke her arm.  She is also dealing with the terrible illness that has had her down for a long time.

Jenny, with your grandchildren getting to the ages where they are involved in a lot of things you will probably have more occasions where you would like to be two places at once.  How did the Pinewood Derby turn out?

Joy, enjoy those fresh string beans with ham.  That certainly sounds delicious.

good Morning everyone. well for the start the day check in. it is currently 51º and cloudy says light rain but have not got the rain as of yet and saying the high is to be 57º for today, but we are supposed to go back clod here this week, for my part it can stay like this for 30 days and then turn off pretty. oh yes i in two hitches slept 8.5 hours. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone, had a good sleep for a change and feel awake this morning. Sun is shining and it is 31° at 9am. Have a grocery delivery coming tomorrow morning so think I should set the alarm to make sure I am up and dressed before it arrives.

PAT  always a bright spot when we see you post. Take care of yourself.

AMY  we have rain in the forecast starting late tomorrow and all day Tuesday. Not as pretty as snow but not as dangerous for driving either. Even the piles of snow from the plows are almost gone. Odd for January. My son was saying a few days ago that  if he has no crop again he will cut the trees down and just keep a few for the family. Too expensive to  get the chemicals to spray the trees against bugs the bore into them.

JOY  I will get my grocery delivery before my CNA gets here and other than perishables she will help put them all away. Big order, I only do this about every 5 weeks or so. Your beans and ham sound so yummy. That is how I cooked them, too.

LARRY  when I had the carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand I learned how to use the mouse with my left hand and using that hand to type took ages to post anything. Not fun.

LLOYD  would love to have 50° here but this is still January and will be a long time before we see it that warm.

Wisdom from Will Rogers

"Never squat while wearing your spurs"

From Will Rogers

Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash, was one of the greatest political sages this country has ever known.

Enjoy the following:
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.

2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.

3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman.
Neither works.

4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.

5. Always drink upstream from the herd.

6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it
and put it back into your pocket.

8. There are three kinds of men:
The ones that learn by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence
and find out for themselves.

9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.

11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.

12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring.
He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

ABOUT GROWING OLDER...

First ~Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers.
Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way.
I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.

Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it's such a nice change from being young.

Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.

Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft.
Today it's called golf.

And, finally ~ If you don't learn to laugh at trouble,
you won't have anything to laugh at when you're old.

Good ones, Gloria.  Will Rogers knew what he was talking about!

My family was at a cottage in Cambridge, Wisconsin, in 1935 when Will Rogers and Wiley Post went down in a plane in Alaska.  I think the plane was never found.

some of the things we reamber from younger days true and correct and some are not, but one thing my grand mother said about (Will Rogers ) sayings was he was setting in a restaurant stiring a cup of Coffey and the fellow next to him was very impatient and hollering at the watrest  to hurry he was in a hurrie.
will slid his over in front of him and said here is mine it is already caserd and bowed. have a great day.

Amy, I totally agree that my heart goes out to the pets that we can't explain to.  I did allow old LaurenKat to go to Cas' room as she always did first thing in the morning.  When she came running out with ... and I don't exaggerate.... shocked look on her face, I knew what was wrong.  She never went into that room again during the 4 & half years she lived.  She did understand because she saw him.  I have explained this to people that love their pets.... they understand what they see, be considerate of them.

Lloyd, we have warmed up and no ice on the river at all.  I'm almost afraid to check to see if things are starting to pop out of the ground, it has happened this early other years & plants get frozen back.  I've watered a couple times lately but the end came off my expandable hose so need to get it fixed or buy another.  It is light weight & I can carry the 75' around on one arm.  The rest of my hoses are the Sears "lifetime" rubber ones & so heavy I have trouble dragging enough to water the young trees.  A tree root grew into the pipe from the well so can't use the sprinkler system.  Gripe-gripe, we are so dry everything will die without water.

Gloria, Will Rogers sayings have always been a favorite & think he was the most honest person ever..... wouldn't you have loved knowing him or being able to watch his reaction with the news media today???  Thanks for posting these!

Denver

A good Sunday Morning from white and chilly Colorado.  The projected the snow to start around 3 AM and it did.  We have nearly 5 inches with the possibility of 10 or so.  We need the moisture so badly.  The last decent amount of snow here was back in October.

LARRY, the Pinewood Derby was a lot of fun!  Luke’s car came in 1st place., and he was one proud little guy!  We went to lunch afterwards and enjoyed more family time.  Kate’s competition also went well.  Her group won 3rd place in their division AND won 3rd place in the overall groups of 27.  It was videoed live, but we did not know it at the time.  It will be available soon on YouTube and we are looking forward to seeing it.  The oldest Grandson, Matt, went to his Scouting badge ceremony in the late afternoon and he is now a Star Scout.   His plan is to be a Eagle Scout in one year from now.  He is 12 years old, and most boys do not accomplish Eagle Scout until they are 17.  Thank you very much for asking.  I do hope Pat feels much better today.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND, what ever you plan to do.  We are planning to stay indoors and keep warm, period!

Don, from what he said, I think Hal lived within the city limits of San Antonio; do you know otherwise?  I have only looked in the San Antonio Express/News for an obit.  Often obits are placed the day before a funeral, so we might have to wait a day or two yet.
