Amy, by the time I made it through all the posts you are home & with good news!  SO happy to hear good news!  I think we all deal with lack of peaceful sleep when dreading tests the next day..... get so sound zzzzzzzzs to help ward off any germs you were exposed to!

Okay, y'all know I am jealous of your snowfall, but want you to check out our temps today (after days of below freezing & chill index of below zero.... )   I haven't even been out to enjoy but will trek down to the river when I get off here.  We are supposed to be near 60 by Sat... so will get out my hose & try to get some of the sand/salt gunk off the RV before the next freeze.  It is totally black from all that stuff the morning I came home from the lake, they had just done all the highways & streets so the elephant looks like it rolled in the mud.

Larry, I understand letting Pat decide without nagging..... I sure didn't like Cas pushing me to do anything & never voiced an opinion (okay, maybe I hinted strongly when I thought he should try something different  ::) )....  my best wishes that she feels better soon.

My son sounded awful when they were all here the other night.... and he will never admit he is sick.  He is the one that will have to be dragged to the hospital if it turns to pneumonia.  Have no idea where he got that stubborn streak.  :-[

Thanks for the tip about the almond oil... and CVC, Phyll.  I read that it was sometimes call sweet oil & had never-ever heard of almond oil before.  I went through the park along the river where your brother lived last week, always think of you & wish we could have met long ago.  That street has one of the prettiest views in the city & now a "roundabout" at the east end of the park to shoot off to downtown, into the park or where ever that other turn takes, plus the one leading along the river.

Jane, my eyes are useless when bright sun hits the windshield.  The last glasses I got were tinted very dark & whatever they did, it is much worse than the sunglasses I had before.  They asked if I wanted something that was to take glare off... I didn't understand, but I think that is what is causing my eyes not to switch back between bright sun & shadows.  I don't need glasses for reading or the computer... & what they need for driving is too strong for inside a store or church, so I wear 30 year old prescription glasses for those times/places.  No wonder my eyes are confused.  :crazy2:

Hal, been stalling in hopes of a note from you that you got sprung.  Bet you are more than worn out being in this long.  Hope they come up with something like June got to cure you.

Carol

I am hoping everyone is super careful on the ice/snow.  May you all be safe from the flu and colds too.

The yard is open here and a herd of javelina came though sometime in the night and wreaked havoc.  They broke a pottery bird bath - where I had put a block of quail seed.  Also, they scratched and shredded cushions on our two rockers.  ACE hardware had a solution and we bought some pellets that smell like coyotes (they are the enemies to javelina.  Other solutions would be to fence the yard (to expensive) put in motion sensor lights or sit outdoors and point a stinging gun (they animals do bite).  We shall see how this works.

A crock pot is simmering with split-pea soup - ham bone is in it to make it more ham tasty.  We will have a lot to freeze for quick meals later.

Amy:  Great news.  Now you can breathe.

Shirley:  I made a mistake with our youngest son and his little finger was really broken - he could bend it when I proclaimed it was Okay.  Dreadfully shameful for that mistake.

I lost a dear friend last year when she waited much too long to go to the ER - she was told to go home and put affairs in order.  Be careful about "toughing it out".  Miss her and her family misses her big time.

The driving part of my life is starting to wind down, The insurance company just paid me $7700 for my car, I'm getting $200 refund for my license plates and $200 for my drivers license. That will definitely buy me a lot of taxi rides. And I am relieved to free of the burden of driving.

Shirley

Thanks, Patricia, I left you a message "over there" & won't repeat.  Nice to see you again.

Don, glad this ordeal is over for you & sounds like a good deal to me.  I'm surprised about the $200 for your drivers license.... no reward for turning ours in that I know of.  I hope you have plenty of public transportation or convenient cab service.  Won't be long before you will be heading to your other homeland ... for how long?

Carol, have you ever gotten a photo of those javelina?  I'm going to google when I get out of here.... are they like wild pigs?  My son was surprised to get photos of 2 fox in his back yard this week.  They are all over this side of the city & do okay in the city limits.  We see them in our yard every so often, haven't seen the coyote lately but a neighbor did.  I do have motion sensor lights in the back as well as some that come on & stay on all night.  The last one I put in (from Menards) comes on at dark but if anything moves in the pool area it comes on brighter.  I have LEDs on all around the house, here when we bought but I put in the LEDs last year, that come on at dark.  I'm planning on them lasting for at least 18 years & bright as they are, they don't use a lot of electricity.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

This is to be the start of another January thaw , temp is +17° at the moment. I left what little snow that fell on the driveway with hopes it won't be slippery when it rains.

Work about the house this morning catching up on a lot of little jobs that didn't get done.

Larry, hope Pat is feeling better.

Patricia, thank you for posting Jeanne Lee's obit. Difficult to believe she won't be in here anymore, but she is now watching over us.

Carol, your soup sounds delicious!!!

Don, know you will do fine without your license and I am sure your friends will give you rides to where you need to be.

Shirley, it seems we worry about the worst happening and when we got the good news yesterday it was like a weight had been lifted off of us. Still rejoicing here :)

Gloria, hope you don't mind but I also borrowed your poem. Are you going to get the thaw or nasty weather this weekend?

June, may today be a great day for you.

Gloria de, hope the ice is all gone now. I would rather have a lot of snow to deal with than ice!!

Phyllis, my son is headed for SC and loves to tell me how nice the weather is there, I think he is in for a surprise this trip!!

Jane, any cookies left? :)

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's colder here than it is where Amy is.  We are registering 14º!  BRRRRR!

I'm glad for your good news Amy and since you said everything to Everyfriend that I would have said I'm going to be lazy and say "WHAT SHE SAID GOES FOR ME TOO!"

The plain old chocolate chip cookies are in the hidey hole.  The fancy once will be there this weekend.  Help yourself.  Coffee's fresh!

I'll be off to WM at 10 this morning and I'm going to refuse to do the long belt both halves of my shift.  It's exhausting!  I hope you all have a cosy warm day full of love and good cheer!

Gloria

Good morning everyone, hope one and all are fine and dandy on this day. Well I woke up and got out of bed so I am.

JANE  I have a finger on my left hand that is starting to feel like the trigger finger I had fixed on my right hand when I had the last carpal tunnel surgery. Glad you liked what I posted yesterday. I have had that for years and thought it was time to share it.

HAL  you trying to look like Phyllis Diller? Remember her and that hair of hers? Hope you do get to to home. I think one gets more tired in a hospital than at home.

PHYLLIS  wow you got more snow than we did here with the last snow. Weather people kept telling is this area would get 7 inches and we got less than 2. For your are that is not used to a snowy winter I know that is too much for you.

LARRY  hope Pat is feeling a bit better today. Glad she has you with her and not alone. If I had the flu a shower would be the last thing I would think of.

MARY ANN  I would not think of having surgery on my back, ever. I know what you mean about the pain in your shoulder when you turn a different way, or fast.

GLORIA de  I dislike all the pills doctors have us take. I rather take 2 aspirin for most things but have been told to stay away from them. I would never take them on an empty stomach though.

AMY  great that you got good news for a change. It has been much too long since we hear from or about JOAN. They say no news is good news but not in this case.

JANE  smart lady. That is why I stopped driving. I did not want to be an accident waiting to happen.

SHIRLEY  of course you have no stubborn streak at all, do you? I think every one is blinded riding into the sun. I hated to drive at those times.

DONKLAN  glad you liked what I posted yesterday. It sure fits most of us that post here.

PATRICIA  thanks for the link to Jeanne Lee's obit.

DON  it took me a long time to relax with someone else driving. I sure pushed my right foot on that “brake” on the passenger side. Now enjoy letting someone else put up with traffic and enjoy the view.

SHIRLEY  my daughter has LED lights in her house.

AMY  I got that poem in an email years ago and always liked it so saved it.

JANE  all of 19° here now at 8:30.

 A dog's Life

I Just Realized Something Profound.......

It just hit me!

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.
He has his food prepared for him.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again during the year, if
any medical needs arise.
For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he
needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.
If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who earn a living.

I was just thinking about all this and suddenly it hit me.......

My dog is a US CONGRESSMAN!

Carol

Gloria:  "My dog is a congressman" - or woman.  You can add that they live on our money for the rest of their lives.   Enjoyed your newsy post.

Radioman-Don:  Very interesting note on you turning in your car.  We are finding that wherever we go, the population has increased much too fast and the speed LIMIT means nothing.  It would be worth the absence of stress - good for you.

Shirley:  Tucson has a law against too much lighting and it is observed much more in the north end of the city (here).  There is an observatory and lack of lighting helps to see the stars.  It may move some day because they are complaining about more and more lights are interfering with their studies of the stars - too much building and everyone wants to put in outdoor lights.  Did you find a picture of the ornery varmint?

Amy:  Soup turned out alright.  I froze one container and have two quarts in the fridge.  Having a ham bone is the secret - I am sure you know that.  Are you begging cookies from Jane?

Amy

Drizzle has started, so we went into town to pick up meds, milk and fruit. Stopped at the dump on the way in and saw the beautiful eagle again!!!  Have the wood box filled and another load to go in .

I am worried, Larry should be here by now and Lloyd is also missing, Hal has not said hi yet either but maybe they are doing tests on him.

Carol, sent you a photo of the puppy quilt, tried to post it here but no go :(  Now I am doing a kitten/cat one. Thought I would do something for me but when this pattern came through I am doing another camp quilt for kids. I can wait to do mine. YES!!! Janie has delicious cookies and chocolate chip are one of my favorites....with a tall glass of cold milk please?
Making turkey pot pie so I had better get back at it..

Hi Everyone. Hi Everyone. It looks like our really cold whether, for us, is probably over for a few days at least.  We should get up to around 60 degrees this afternoon.   However, she seems to be feeling better this morning and last evening ate a decent meal.   Update:  Just back from the Prompt Care and then going to the Walmart Pharmacy.  The good news is that she apparently doesn't have the flu but just a bad case of bronchitis.  She was given three prescriptions and the PA said she should begin to feel a lot better tomorrow.   I just now spoke with my son and he does indeed have the flu and had seen the doctor this morning.

deAngel, Pat has taken gyfenasin everyday for many years as a treatment for her fibromyalgia and I think that has helped keep the chest congestion loose.

Amy, glad your husband got a good report from the doctor.  Hope you had a good nights sleep last night.

Jane, it sounds like you made a very wise decision.  Sometimes I think some of these follow-up appointment are really uncalled for and maybe this was one of those. Pat and I have cancelled several appointments that were follow ups  with specialists as our GP is able to prescribe the medicines we need and keep and eye on us.

Shirley, I just had a notification on my phone awhile ago about a new winter storm to hit the Midwest but perhaps it will miss your area.  Enjoy the warmer weather while you can.

Don, you are right about the reimbursements playing for a lot of taxi rides and you also eliminate the expenses of upkeep and fuel for the car plus the insurance.

Jane, I would much rather than a chocolate chip cookie than a fancy one any day of the week.  They are my favorites by far.

Gloria, a few years ago when I was in the hospital I watched a video on their closed circuit TV and the lady acknowledged you don't get much rest in a hospital.

Amy, I was in the process of doing the posting here when Pat said she was ready to go to the prompt care.  I am fine and just a little weary from my lone day yesterday and this morning's activities.  I will go and rest as soon as I finish posting here for today.  If you want to send me the picture of your quilt I will upload it to the gallery here and post a link in this discussion.

June Drabek

Don, I felt exactly as you have explained about not driving anymore. I had had three minor strokes. My son said, "Mom, what if you should have one of these attacks while driving your car ?" That did it. I sold my wonderful Oldsmobile 88 (the last of it's line) and found a wonderful freedom. No more tests for a licence, no more pumping of gas and hoping I did it correctly, no more washing my car, no more taking car in for check-ups, tires, other problems. No more concerns of harming others. Freedom ! I congratulate you Don !!!!!!

Amy, dear, dear caring friend. Every day is a great day. Folks like you make it so. We do worry, we complain, we share things here, and the day turns out GREAT. Thank you !!

Janie girl, Good for you (I'm going to refuse to do the long belt both halves of my shift.  It's exhausting!  ) You are a long time employee that has done more than required of you, and management is aware of it, I'm sure. They will bow to your request in order to keep you for sure.

Gloria……me too. I woke up, I was alive, and so I am. Hi JUNE.  Aren't we the lucky ones ???

Larry, I am so glad your Pat is feeling better. God is Good.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I didn't do the long belt both halves.  I got to do the other register that I detest but that is much easier.  I had to do the Cigarette counter for half my shift.  We check out other things there but it's the only place they can buy tobacco.  I dislike selling tobacco but it's a much easier counter to work.

I really am less tired today.

LARRY, I prefer the chocolate chip cookies too but there are some family favorites that I feel deprived of if I don't make a few.  That's my plan for tomorrow.  Get your milk ready Everyfriend!

Now I'm going to finish checking my email and goof off a little!

And little lamzy divey
A kidddle-ee-divey, to. wouldn't you?

If the words sound queer and funny to your ear

I just got a call from Hal Kelly's wife.  Hal died at home this afternoon shortly after returning from the hospital. I have no details nor did I press for any..I spoke to him at great length this morning and everything was fine, so I'm a bit of shock as as well.

Amy

Oh my gosh, tears are making it difficult to type.

Thank you for letting us know, not the news we want to hear...we have lost another fine member.

Prayers and condolences for Hal's family.

Just to keep you up to date, Hal Kelly died this afternoon. His wife called me to let me know,
I am so sorry to hear that Hal passed away...
I understand from the postings that he had a heart attack?
He is certainly going to be missed as he has be a regular poster and SN/friend for years...
My goodness,  I  miss Hal,  already !!!.

I just can't quite accept the fact that our Hal will not be leaving us messages any more. Tears are piling up inside, and they hurt. He had such a loving family, my prayers go out to them. And his son in law too....he was Hal's right hand man. May God be with them.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

CallieOK

I am stunned at the news about Hal.  My sympathy and prayers are with his family.
Since there will be no more "Yankee Dime bets" on TX/OK football games, here's one last  :-*  to a winner in every way.  He will be missed.

June Drabek

Callie...thanks dear, I can picture Hal with a big grin as he reads your message. And Yes, I do like the thought that our departed can still "know" us. I hope that is not sinful.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I'M SPEECHLESS!  And I can't see through the tears.  I came in expecting to see some good news and our friend is gone!  I said it before and I'll say it now....It never ceases to amaze me at how much it hurts to lose someone I never even met face to face.  Even from this distance, it was easy to see he was loved and he loved his family.  I'm sure he is with God.

Lloyd Hammond

Good Morning everyone.
I went to the harvesters food disturbing program yesterday , but did not just drive through the line receiving free food, pulled out of line before they started
giving out food and before the truck got there with it. I went up to the manager and signed on to help. Made me feel good to help. I picked up a healthy load also and drooped most of it to some very needy folks on the way home. I will shruley do that again soon at other drop off stations soon. so sad to here about Hall. we had plans to stop by and meet him and his wife on our trip this coming spring. I hope to see him now in heaven but not too soon. I enjoy most people most of the time. living loving and teasing.

Good morning everyone...

The  night didn't take the hurt away and the heavy heart remains. Callie, I smiled at your post and yes he will certainly be missed by many.

Laundry day here, temp has warmed up to 30 ° so I may hang it out. Pot pie was delicious last night, I almost followed a Kraft recipe called for cream of  chicken but I used mushroom. Plus before you put the crust on you sprinkle cheese first. I had better make some oatmeal cookies  and chocolate chip too. Janie has my mouth watering for some.

Bubble, thank you for the post on Hal  and Jeanne Lee in Tranquil Cove. I would imagine they are giving each a hug .

Tea is made ,fire is on ,dogs fed and now to get laundry started.

Enjoy your day everyone..

It was very late last night when I read that Hal had passed away , after just getting back home from the hospital.   What a shock that has been to his family, most of all, and to all his friends here in S & F.  He will be very much missed by all of us.  I was another one who always enjoyed his messages.  A very sad week this has been for this group.
