Mary Ann, like you I'm not an elvis fan, but I was very moved by that song. Thank you Amy.

Carol

Sorry to learn of Hal's passing.  He was an interesting poster and really had a good family life.

I always liked Elvis singing gospel.  He started singing in a little church at a very young age.  So, I listen to Elivis gospel, John Denver and a lot of classic music on ALEXA.  Elvis just rocks the house as well as Roy Orbison.  Just a few of the great ones!  I went to a concert in Seattle alone to listen to Nat King Cole.

Denver

GLORIA de, we are so blessed to have three of our grands here where we can be a part of their lives.  It was not that long ago we had all 5 of them here, and I have to admit I do miss those other two boys SO MUCH.  As you know, these days we are able to talk and even video with them, so it is much better than it used to be.  When we lived in Germany we only had snail mail and my parents missed a lot with our kiddos early on.  Same with my dad now...getting to talk to him every day make it not too bad at all.

Thank you, AMY, for sharing the nice Elvis song with us.  I still can not believe Hal is gone!

CAROL, I, too, have always enjoyed Elvis sing gospel songs.  I was never a real Elvis Fan, other than that.  His voice is still a thrill to listen to.  I have a couple of great Javalena pictures, taken at a friend’s home in Scottsdale a couple of days ago, if you or someone else would like to post them. Let me know.  We are getting a much needed snow storm here today, as I am sure you have already heard.

Enjoy your visit with your son in Collinsworth, DON.

I am off to start some dinner.

Amy , thanks for the Elvis song. I always liked Elvis especially as a young man, before "fame" took over his life.

Pat dear, it is so nice to see a post from you. I still miss Geordie. I wish the tears would fall, they just keep piling up in my chest. I am feeling 93 years...shame on me.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Joy

I guess I grew up in the "Elvis Presley" era,  and did like most of what he sang.  But my mother didn't care that much for him, but this is the one hymn that she would play over and over.

And, I  think it is kind of appropriate right now.  This version is especially pretty with the scenery.

well girls my thinker is not what it used to be. but Hall recent location was close to the suburbs of dallies Texas. he was retired form the highway partrole a desk job dispatching, he and i talked on skype often, Nancy and I were making plans to stop by there home sight this coming spring after we get our new to us motor home. If i succeed in making contact with his wife and she likes we still will stop and see her and at least buy her a meal at a nice restraint in there aria. we don't have the motor home yet, but it is still in our plans to sell the farm and retain life time right's to a close friend. I am on the past side of 80 years and part of the time 1 year and part of the time two years older than her. but i still drive and so dose she with reasonable safety. she wont drive in big city traffic but dose a good job in rural or open highway. Like jack prat and wife we make a good Pair. but we put leftovers in the fridge. Nancy still cook's like we have children at home. have a great day everyone.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Knew I had to be up early this morning but did not think I would wake at 5am. Had the alarm set for 6:30. Groceries coming between 8 and 10 this morning. Having some showers now and already 35°

MARY ANN  I always enjoy reading quotes by Will Rogers. We could use a few like him these days in DC. I was 4 when his plane went down but I remember over the years my parents talking about him. They went to visit my sister in Oklahoma years ago and my sis and BIL took her to the Will Rogers memorial. Mom brought back a memorial plate she bought there and I still have it.

LLOYD  all my life I have heard only good things about Will Rogers. Smart man and liked by all.

SHIRLEY  I agree, the way some people treat their pets I would like to treat them the same way. I think Will Rogers would be shocked at the world these days.

DON  when I saw he name Collingwood the first thing I thought of was the old TV series Dark Shadows set in a place called Collingwood. Weird show with vampires, were wolf and witches. Hope you enjoyed your week end. Hal's sudden death is a shock to everyone.

JENNY  we have light rain now but tonight and tomorrow will have more rain. I would prefer snow. Sure glad I went outside yesterday and enjoyed the warm sunshine for about 3 hours. Your Matt must really like boy scouts to aim for Eagle so young, Good for him and I hope he sticks with it.

AMY  I have had those Will Rogers quotes for several years and though I would share. I always enjoy them. I am with him about dogs. I look forward to seeing the ones I had over the years when I get there.

GLORIA de  yesterday was about perfect here, especially for January.

AMY  perfect timing with that song. I was not an Elvis fan but when he sang Gospel songs he was good.

CAROL  way back in the 1940's Nat King Cole had a Saturday afternoon radio show. That was where I first heard him and I always liked his singing.

JENNY  so happy my daughter and I have Skype so I can see and talk with her every day.

JOY  I liked Elvis singing the gospel songs and a few ballads but that was about it.

LLOYD  after cooking for a family and learning how to cook for 1 or 2 is hard.

HUGS
(Author Unknown)

There's something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart;
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part.

A hug's a way to share the joy
As sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you 'cause you're you.

Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your neighbor,
Or a cuddly teddy bear.

A hug is an amazing thing-
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeling
But can't find the words to say.

It's funny how a little hug
Makes everyone feel good;
In every place and language,
It's always understood.

And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or special parts -
Just open up your arms
And open up your hearts!

Good morning everyone..

They say we are to get freezing rain today. Hubby has an appointment for 9 am  here in town then we can stay home.

Joy I like that song also....thank you for sharing.

Gloria, love hugs one size fits all. Hubby would say a hug without a squeeze is like apple pie without cheese..

Better get a move on here..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  We've had some rain during the night but the temps are above freezing so the only effect it's having is to melt the snow.  We're supposed to get more rain beginning around noon a lasting several hours.  Gonna be a wet day!

I had lots of things planned for the weekend but I didn't do any of them.  I had a short visit with my Texas SIl and my Baltimore granddaughter (father and daughter).  Jim was here for a reunion of his high school wrestling team and to spend some time with his ailing father.  It's his father we've been praying for off and on this winter.  His father is Randall.  He stayed with his brother and Courtney stayed with her cousin so the short visit was all I got.  Then Cathy stopped by later on her way home from errands and we had a nice chat.  I went to church on Sunday and stayed for coffee hour and had a nice visit with friends.  And that's my weekend!

My cleaning dynamo was supposed to be here today but she asked if she could do tomorrow instead.  I'm flexible!  And I have an eye appt. today.

A timer is calling me to go finish making the dog food.  So I better answer before it goes crazy.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend.  Stay warm, stay dry, stay safe, stay happy!

Bubble, I've been looking in the San Antonio newspaper for an obit and haven't found one  yet.  I even looked in Mineral Wells news this morning because Hal had said he was born there.  I'll keep looking.

Gloria, I'll bet Will Rogers would have some pertinent comments if he were alive today.  I was 11 when the plane went down.

Believe it or not, we had a lightning and thunder storm this morning.  It is in the mid-30s now.

Mary Ann

Hi Everyone.  It is a cloudy morning but in the 50's.  I had to make a quick trip to Walmart this morning to get a prescription for Pat and to get a bottle of cough syrup for her.  The medication the PA prescribed for her cough doesn't seem to be working and she didn't sleep at all last night.  However, she does think the congestion is better.  Apparently the coughing goes on for quite a few days.  I have nothing else on my schedule for today.  I did watch the late afternoon pro football game and then the first half of the second game.  The first game was competitive and the second was not.

Lloyd, I haven't had the head injuries you have experienced plus I am several years younger than you.  However, I find my memory isn't quite a good as it used to be.  Just this morning I took my evening medicine rather than my morning medicine.  So this evening I will take the morning medicine.  Fortunately two of the main medications I need for my heart I take both morning and evening so it is no big deal.

Gloria, sure hope you son doesn't have to cut down his apples trees but know it is very discouraging and expensive not to get a crop in a season.  If I couldn't use both hands for typing I would have to resort to dictating what I want to say and then copying and pasting to the discussions.  However, I have never liked to do the dictation.  Thanks for the wisdom of Will Rogers and the thoughts on growing older.

Shirley, interesting experience with LaurenKat.  I have always heard that pets sense when we are not feeling well or when someone is very ill.

Jenny, I bet Luke was excited to win the Pinewood Derby.  Do they get a blue ribbon or a trophy to mark the occasion?  Did he build his car himself or with some help from Dad?  It sounds like Matt is a very dedicated Scout and is on target to become a young Eagle Scout.  If you want to send me the javalena pictures I will see if I can get them posted with a link to view.

Amy, I often buy mandarin or other small citrus fruit.  I also like tangerines as they are so easy to peal.  I have always like Elvis.  It is too bad he had such a sad ending.  His estate still makes many millions of dollars a year based on his songs and his home.

Joy, I also grew up in the Elvis Presley era.  We had a radio in our barn and always listened to the radio while we were doing the milking.  I don't remember whether I ever had any of his 45 RPM records but doubt it as my folks didn't have the funds for such things.

Gloria, what a great poem about hugs and so true. Amy, love what you husband says about Hugs.  I have never heard that saying before.

Jane, at least your house cleaner called and let you know she would be a day late.

roley, sorry about the heart attack and hope the pacemaker helps you feel better.  Glad to see you back posting. I have had a pacemaker for quite a few years and in a couple of years will have to have the third on put in as they don't replace the battery due to the danger of infection.

Amy

Roley, glad to see you are on the mend..please take it easy..

Snowing here now, to the south of us they are getting freezing rain..I will take the snow.

Clipped both dogs nails and was going to head on over to the neighbours but she is sick with the flue and I don't need to bring that home to hubby. Will clip their dogs nails another time.

Going to go sew.. :smitten:

Good afternoon, warm for this time of year, and light rain.

Gloria, thanks for hugs poem, I think they are important. I went to Homemakers Friday and there was only 20 people there. the membership is 70.

Amy, I also like your husbands saying.

Roley, good to see your post. Sorry to read you have been ill.  My MIL, got her pacemaker when she was in her 70's and she live to be 97.

Amy, When Elvis sang  Gospel, he would sing with such feeling, and you understood every word.  I listen to him sing IN The Garden, it brought tears to my eyes, as that was the hymn sung at my son Marks funeral Another one that still brings tears is Amazing  Grace, that sung at my sons Dennis funeral.  One of the airmen asked if he could  sing, he was a  black men over 6ft. tall, he sang tears were rolling down his face. I still have that picture in my mind.

What a voice - so perfect to old-time hymns.  Elvis started with singing in a little church.  Fame and lifestyle took him away too young.  Thanks, JOY

Gloria:  I still cannot make "twosome meals" - so many frozen leftovers so they do come in handy.

roley  Take care!  So sorry to read that you had a heart attack.  Keep us posted on your health and happiness.

Please do post the javelina picture.  They are ugly and smelly.  They walked right over the pellets we bought that were supposed to ward off the intruders.

CallieOK

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

The wind is "blowin' down the Plain" today.  (I'd fuss at Shirley but she may be getting a blizzard so I'll be nice  ;D).   I'm doing laundry and what's beginning to feel like Never-Ending desk work!!  Still working on the File Cabinet Project but I think "the boys" and I are accomplishing things that have needed their  :) attention for quite a while.

Lloyd,  my dil had major surgery in San Antonio a few years ago and Hal lived not too far from the hospital.  Nowhere near Dallas.

Larry,  Pat's condition sounds a bit like the pulmonary edema that my oldest son had when he was a teen.  Cough syrup did nothing for the congestion - which turned out to be fluid around the lungs, not in them.
Hope she feels better soon and you can keep your meds straight!   ;)

Jenny,  I still have the Pinewood Derby car oldest son/Dad made when son was a Cub Scout in Leadville. They carved it to look like a hot dog in a bun; the weights needed were the "pickle relish".   I think he won 3rd place.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day - and Good Thoughts for those with health challenges or caring for those who have them.

Carol

Gloria de:  Take care - hugs for you.

Mary Ann

Hal's wife was from England and I wonder if the reason there has been no obituary yet is because maybe someone from there wants to come here for the funeral.  I'll keep looking.

Callie, I knew Hal lived in San Antonio, so disregarded what Lloyd said about Dallas.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

I think that Hal's Wife was back in UK this past Summer. I believe that some of her family did come and visit them and so maybe her brother and wife will come over.
We are having so many deaths here in my town right now that Obits seem to be not getting into the paper until about 4 days after death. Filling 4 whole pages of the Newspaper. So many under the age of 60 these day and lots over 83. Pneumonia seems to be filling the hospitals
JeanneP

JaneS

I didn't find an obituary but I remembered that I had some information stashed away.  A while back I said that I'd be willing to keep some information on anyone who wanted to leave it with me and I have some from Hal.

He lived in a suburb of San Antonio called Live Oak.  I have an address and a telephone number for him.  I also have his wife's name.  I don't think I want to post it here but if anyone wants the rest of the info, please email me and I'll send it to you.

It's been a busy day around here and I'm ready to crash.  I'll check back later to see if anyone has emailed me.  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!

Gloria, I did call Doris this morning to tell her about Jeanne Lee & Hal, & tried to give her a quick run down of others she remembers.  She mentioned she found your phone number & plans to call you (hope it's the same as when you talked last).  She does sound good but her walking keeps her in more this time of year.

Peter, sorry to read you've had a heart attack and glad you are doing better.  At our age most of us are familiar with heart problems of one kind or another and can sympathize.

Callie, we have wind about to puff the house down, sounds like a freight train running constantly.  Had a little misty rain that changed to flakes of snow off & on, nary a flake hit the ground, but bet overnight it could be slick.  Take care.  I have a new expandable hose due tomorrow, the other one popped off at the faucet connection & can be repaired but my little trees need a drink or they won't survive.  The wind sucks any moisture out of the plants & ground, sure dry.

Mary Ann, it took a good week for me to get Cas' obit in the paper, had to take the photo to the mortuary & they handled putting it in the local paper & his home town one.  I kept it simple as he would have wanted, but the delay was the mortuary sent the death certificate that had to be signed by one of his doctors.... to the wrong address.  They couldn't have the cremation until it was signed so when they talked to me & I asked where they sent it, they were mortified to not have realized the cardiologist had moved in with another group of doctors & hand carried the paper for him to sign.  Caused delays that nobody appreciates at that time, hardest on our kids, one even went to make sure his body was being respectfully "stored".  Even though we expected his death for years, it is a shock when it happens, all has to tie together with services, private or public.  Nice of you to check for us.  Thanks.

We had some of the Elvis records on the old Sun label.  Cas gave me a little radio, record player (German made) when we were in England & Elvis in Germany, and he bought a stack of the "35s" (is that the size of those little records?)... from a guy coming back to the US & didn't want to bring them.  I kept them when we came back, until the kids were in their teens.  I caught the boys rolling them to each other one time... not in the best shape, we did have a big player that they used those years. When we moved to Kansas City I gave the records to the youngest son (only one willing to take them) & not sure what he did with them.

Oh, my, had several phone calls since starting this & now is past time for cats to eat.  Crazy day.

June Drabek

Another day will soon be closing downMuch I have left undone, but that seems to be a common thread with me.

I bought a paper back book today from the author...a friend that lives here. She did Prison Ministry with her son for many years So I know I will enjoy reading it.

I am wondering about Hal's beloved dog. How she is taking him not being there for her. And I'm wishing Hal's son in law that loved him and cared for him would know us and share his feelings with us. Lots of wishing and hoping but we have to accept what is.

We had a cool but sunny 70 degrees today. I wasted a good portion of my morning on the computer. I had typed in a medical  program to learn something about albuterol and something at the end was an addition spoken by a doctor, titled "three food we should never eat", it went on and on and on. Diet soda was the first thing listed, along with wheat bread and down the line of MORE than THREE was yogurt. After an hour or more I shut it off.

I don't know why I let myself get suckerd into this stuff.

Nothing more of my day to bore you all with, so I will say that I dearly love you all, and hope you keep well and healthy. God is with us so who or what can harm us. He is ever faithful to help us in our many needs. He Loves us. Amen.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

Denver

Good evening.

I am watching the Denver Nuggets / Portland Trailblazers Basketball Game tonight as son and grandson are there and we can see them very well in their seats.

The family tried all morning to get HAMILTON tickets purchased.  Dr. Dave was the only one that got a low lottery number and was able to buy tickets.  They have 4 tickets and I would love to go, but not sure what their plans are for the 4 they were able to buy.

We had sunshine today but the temps were not really warm enough to do much melting.

GLORIA, you HUG Poem is wonderful....I really love it.

SHIRLEY, the record sizes were 78’s, 33 1/3rd and 45’s.

CALLIE, I had to chuckle about your son’s Pinewood Derby car being a hot dog, bun and pickle relish!  Cute!  Luke’s car won first place also last year!  Guess his dad has figure out the secret to get the little nail pins and the plastic tires to roll well!  The two of them have enjoyed the time together getting the cars carved and then painted......

LARRY, it is definitely a father and son project on the Pinewood Derby car.  Years ago, my Bob helped one of the single mom’s with her son’s and she was so appreciative.  Dave helped one little guy this year as his wheels kept falling off during the race. Last year they awarded trophy’s after the derby, however this year they will be awarded at the weekly pack meeting this Tuesday Night.  Thank you for your kind offer to help with posting photos.

JUNE, your LARGE print was no problem at all...made it quite easy to read as a matter of fact.

BUBBLE, I thank you, as well, for the offer to post pictures.

ROLEY, sorry to read of your heart attack, but sure happy to hear that you are doing much better now with the pacemaker.

Best get this posted before I accidentally loose it.

Pleasant dreams to all.
