Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but my guests are still sleeping.  I'm kind of confined to my office for the time being because my daughter is sleeping on the pullout in the living room.  Granddaughter is in the bedroom and if memory serves me correctly, she won't be disturbed if the entire German army, tanks and all, go through her room.

We have quite a collection of wild life in the house.  Since my SIL was going to be away for the weekend, they brought their two doggies along with them.  So we have 4 dogs to love.  This is the first time the animal population has outnumbered the human one in this house.  Well, that's not exactly true.  Mine outnumber me all the time.  I meant when there are guests.  They all seem to be getting along but it takes twice as long to eat and twice as long to go out and if you pet one you absolutely MUST pet all 4.

We have another rainy day predicted.  I'm sure the local farmers are delighted.  It's the perfect rain....soft and steady and soaking.  Just exactly what we've been needing.

I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day filled with whatever you wish for.

PS to GLORIA who beat me to posting:  Pennsylvania also has Farm Produce coupons for Seniors.  We get 4 of them worth $5. each and the farm where I pick raspberries accept them.  That's where mine are.  They have pickup days and different places all over the tri-county area where we can go with our ID and pick them up.  I like this.

I am up except for a nap later on i am up for the day. sun is shining bright.
we missed the rain the weather guesser promised, oh well all is well that ends well, have a great day,

Amy

Good morning everyone..
Cloudy day and I hope it leaks all over us, we sure need the rain.

A day of rest here today.

Jane, with all you did yesterday you made me tired just reading. You're right when you pet one you pet them all and when one gets a treat they all get one.

Gloria, I like a cheese and onion sandwich, sometimes will make it a grilled cheese and onion. Ham is also good in it too. :)

I  stayed in bed longer so need to move it.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Everyone.Hi everyone.  A beautiful day with it getting to the low 90's this afternoon.  We did get another 1/2 inch of rain during the night.  Today will be Sunday School and then expect to come home and get Pat so we can attend Church.  We will not eat out at noon as plan on going out to eat this evening with Scott as he has today off.

Mary Ann, I can't even imagine having a radish sandwich.  I used to like a butter and sugar sandwich when I was growing up.  We are using the multigrain bread now.  Walmart has a fairly small loaf that is only $1.68 cents and it is very tasty.  IHOP ran some TV ads admitting the who name change was a hoax.  They got a lot of mileage out of it but personally I found it in very poor taste.

Carol, the solution to not messing up your kitchen on the day a housekeeper is there is to go out for your main meal.  Pat and I often do that.  We do pay our housekeeper well and she is here for three hours.  She is a gem and is a very caring person.  I have about decided that blocking may be a waste of time as the political and advertising and scam calls use many different numbers.  However, I do still try occasionally to block a number.  Pat laughs but says she believes in the saying that "the one who dies with the most fabric wins" and sometimes I think she is trying to be sure she wins.  However, she gets joy out of getting new fabric and that is what is important.

Lloyd, home grown sweet corn is so good.  My dad always planted several rows of it at the end of one of the fields and we enjoyed it on the ear in season and mother froze a lot of it after cutting it off the ear.  I will pass on the butter and onion sandwich unless it is Vadalia onion.

Jane, that sounds like it was a very nice party.  I hope you will have a nice visit with your daughter and granddaughter although know their time there is short.

June, you do a lot of daily reading as do I.  It is something we can do without having to move around and expend much energy.  Most of my reading is on the computer.

Gloria, we are getting late afternoon or evening rains here although yesterday morning it rained gently for a couple of hours.  That sounds like a nice farmer to bring his produce to your building. I sure hope you don't decide to eliminate your computer as you would be missed here.  Too bad your current computer has been such a dud.

Amy, I hope you get some rain today.  Your comments remind me that it has been a long time since we had a toasted cheese sandwich and often with ham on it too.

Joy

Just want to say "Good Morning" to all then friends .

It was supposed to be raining, but the sun is out right now.  We are supposed to have a whole week of rainy days.  Not looking forward to all those rainy days. We had rain most of  all day yesterday, so I was surprised to see the sun this morning.  I don't think it is supposed to stay out that long, tho.

Nothing exciting here in my little corner of the world.  I need to get something to eat, as I have been up a while.

Larry, do hope you  and Pat will enjoy dinner out this evening with your son.  I spent most of yesterday reading.  Finished one book and started another one.  Will probably read a while after I get something to eat.  I have been reading "actual" books this week.  I must get back to my Kindle, as I just added several more from the Book Bub site.

Larry,  I used to love butter and sugar on a slice of bread when I was young,  and I still will fix myself one every now and then.

Hope everyone will have a great Sunday.

Mary Ann

Amy, I looked at the radar and it seemed to be raining in your area.  We have  had some rain too.  It rained on my new deck furniture but they're a waterproof material - olefin.

Larry, we used to have butter and sugar sandwiches too, also mustard sandwiches.  I think if I had patience to caramelize onions, I'd like an onion sandwich.  The onion, cheese and ham sandwich Amy mentioned sounds good.  I usually have ingredients for that handy so I'll have to try it.

I think the sun is trying to shine, but I don't hold out much hope for a sunny day.  I think I'd rather it rain during the week, then have nice weekends.  I know, I have no say in the matter.

Now I'll see if I can find anything about the British Open in Scotland.  I've missed most of it.

JaneS that just proves we were all living in hard times when sugar was rationed.
in those days the local grocery store had real whole milk. grandmother would pore it in a pan let the cream rise and skim it off, have us children churn it into butter, and that fresh butter and sugar when we had the sugar on biscuits or home made bread was a real treat.

Lloyd

JaneS

LLOYD, I'm not the one that ate the sugar and butter bread.  I felt lucky to have the butter.  I grew up when they came up with the white margarine and a bead inside the bag that you broke and then squeezed to color the fake butter yellow.  I really disliked it and I often chose to eat my toast dry rather than have that "stuff" on it.

My grandparents had a farm and when we were lucky enough to be able to spend time there, we had REAL butter churned by my grandmother from milk that came straight from the cow.  The butter and the milk were the best.

The bad part of staying at my grandparents farm was that the outhouse was waaaaaay out there!

My daughter and granddaughter are on the way home and should be about half way there.  They'll text me when they arrive.  I miss them already!

Right after they got here, we sent out for Chinese food and then this morning we had eggs from my daughter's chickens, toast with real butter and water buffalo sausage for breakfast.  We all sort of skipped lunch and in the middle of the afternoon we had home made noodles the way my Italian MIL used to make them with homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs.  In between we talk and remembered and talked more.  Cathy stopped by for a sister to sister visit and a good time was had by all.  Now I'm ready to loaf!

I hope you all had a day as pleasant as mine!

Janie, I too remember the white margarine with the red button that we had to knead to make it look like butter. It was icky, but all we had at the time. I'm so glad you had such a good time with your family. Those days are just happy memories for me  now. I did have Dori and two other gals come for lunch last week, but lunch was downstairs in the big dining room, but we still had a good time.

How I envy you gals that are getting those gentle rains. We are so dry out here in So.Ca.  I would say many prayers of thanksgiving for some of that wettness.

Radish sandwiches…..one of my favorites, with lots of butter on the bread and salt on the radishes……nice memories.I remember sugar sandwiches too. There were days when that was all we had..

Larry, we have a fantastic library on our premises here, and quite a few authors too.  just finished a book written by one of our residents, and there was a paragraph in it about my Gary….he performed the wedding of this author and his wife. There is another full section of Amish authors that I really enjoy reading about..their life style and their "goodness"
Larry, we still must do some walking though, at least I must. with this artery disease I would lose my limbs if I did not use them, plus our hearts require a good blood flow. I also massage my limbs daily and do exercises while lying in bed.

My A/C is still busy pumping in cool air and it is  going on six p.m. I'll be turning it off soon though. I have a wonderful ceiling fan that takes care of the whole Apt. And I find a cold shower is very refreshing. After the first gasp of shock, it feels great, and does not dry the skin as hot showers do. I think it was our SANDY here that told us about it.

Time to heat up some left-overs from lunch.. Keep well and happy. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Oh, yes, I remember that "butter" that looked like lard to me even after popping the yellow button to squeeze & mix. Like you, Jane, I preferred to have my toast without, or with jelly.  Rationing during the war kept us busy trying to find new foods to replace what we could not get.  I still love toast with sugar & a dash of cinnamon..put under the broiler until the sugar bubbles... and eat with a mug of hot chocolate.  YUM!  You have a great & loving family, Janie, you sure did something right!

I remember getting the whole milk at the store, too, Lloyd.. skimming off the cream to save until we had enough to make butter. We didn't have a churn but would use the hand mixer (remember those egg beaters that you hand turned?)... as it thickened we'd use a fork to keep mixing & shape into a dish.  We all worked together.

I envy you the nice rain, Amy.... I would find some excuse to be out in it.... really.  I always loved rain & can't understand anyone being depressed in cloudy weather.  Would sure enjoy hearing your loons, they sound so sad in a way, kind of like the owl I hear around here some times. Some birds sound so happy. We have one dove whose call is like a broken record... doesn't stop with one round but skips right into another tune, only one that does that.

Larry, I also love a raw Vidalia onion but discovered they are too sweet to use in soup.... they add a whole different flavor to some dishes... like spaghetti.  My son can eat a whole sliced onion saute'd in butter... I add a drained can of French style green beans & he can eat the whole skillet full, just slightly browned, salt & pepper or Mrs.Dash.  I could eat an ear of corn every day but know as long as it is free of worms I will get headaches eventually from whatever they "engineer" into the seeds. I cook an ear, wrapped in wax paper, for 2 min in the microwave, cut it off so my butter doesn't soak into the cob... I use real butter & a dash of salt, one ear makes a plate full ...so good. For a kid that didn't like food growing up, I sure changed & enjoy eating now!

Almost forgot what I wanted to ask everyone........I have a big package of ground beef ..the leanest... want to make a meatloaf but not my usual.  Anyone got secret things they do to theirs?  HELP?  Got to use or freeze tomorrow.  Sam's carries the Angus but such big packages.  Last time I made thin patties & froze separately on wax paper so I could pull apart one at a time.  The cats also love raw hamburger & get their share.  My last meatloaf was not as moist or juicy so not too good after being frozen.

I slept the day away.... had planned for a short nap but woke up after the last Mass was over.  Fed cats every time I woke up & they are ready for their midnight snack before I go to bed again.  At least the back ache is gone.  So this is my world... nothing exciting.

CallieOK

I grew up on a "rural acreage" (160 acres).  Daddy leased the pasture out for cattle but we always had two or three "milk cows".  (Yes, I learned how but never could hit the cat's mouth like our hired hand could.)
Grew up drinking whole milk and having home-made whipped cream and cottage cheese.   Still have the Daisy church we used to make butter.

Shirley, I used my egg beater with a handle just the other day.  It was a wedding present and was "the newest thing" in 1958 - had some kind of "gear" that never got rusty or worn out - and it never has!.

My mother made the best meat loaf but didn't have a recipe - and I don't either.  Mine always tasted o.k. but never quite like hers.  One time, I made it with her standing there saying, "yes, that's right" - and it still didn't taste like hers. Something about that "mother's touch", I guess.

I made one in the microwave yesterday and it turned out just great.  Got the recipe on cooks.com.

Looks as if Everyfriend has had a good weekend.

Sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

(Merry Monday 2 hours early.   ( Shirley)

well we do not have any milk cows just beef cows now. 1 bull and  50 some head of cows and calves, mostly black Angus but a few devean bread red white face. time to hit the hay hope to see you all tomorrow.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

SHIRLEY, I put about a half cup of any kind of grated cheese I have and about a quarter cup of spaghetti cheese (the powdered kind - doesn't seem to matter which) in my meatloaf and it seems to stay moister and softer for sandwiches later.  It might taste a bit different the first time but it's a good different.

I have to go feed the doggies!  In the words of General MacArthur, "I shall return".

Gloria

Good morning everyone, we had rain yesterday, rain and more rain. No booms or light show. Looked like it was going to clear, had a 2 second peek of sun and more rain. More in the forecast for today and Wednesday. Beginning to think we have turned into a monsoon area with the rain we have had lately.
I have an invitationfor my great grandson's 3rd birthday on Saturday but passed. Too many kids running around, more than I can handle anymore. Another contoversy in Providence, a company wants to build a tall weird shape building on land that is empty now after changing a bridge. The building would tower over everything in Providence and be modern when this is an old state (one of the original 13) so would be out of place. Now I heard in Boston they want to change
the name of Faneuil Hall because the man who built it and gave it to Boston was a slave owner. It was built before the Revolutionary
war.  I have been in that building and the stairs are well won in the center. A lot of history there. Are they going to kick out the first Presidents because some were slave owners?

JANE  had to laugh about petting 1 dog and you have to pet all 4 of them. That is so true whether dogs or cats or one of each. the coupons we get are 3  $5 ones but the resident man who is really the witch's gofer more than helping us, for 3 years has somehow has 2 books for each of us in this building, $30. can get quite a bit of produce. My son has mine now and will be getting what I want at the farm. I will get at least 2 quarts of blueberries for the freezer. They have the best corn around, too.

AMY  I was left out with the taste of onions, especially raw. If someone tries sneaming them into food telling me they used celery and I take one bite I head to the bathroom. Love the smell when they are frying but cannot eat them. Just heard on the news about the shooting in Toronto last night. Not just us now getting those mass shootings. Terrible. I like grilled cheese and ham or cheese and tomato sandwiches.

LARRY  I saw that IHOP run on TV, too about the B in their name. Really confused a lot people, almost like an April fool joke that backfired. Not a farmer that co here, the building resident helper gets the coupon books for us so we do t have to go out for them. We can use the coupons at farmers markets or farms. Since I cannot get to the farm I like I give my coupons to my son and he gets what I want.

JOY  like you we are in for rain most of this week.

LLOYD  ever wonder how people today, especially the young ones would react to having every thing rationed like we did in WW2.

JANE  that white margarine always made me wonder if it was lard. We ate different foods way back.

SHIRLEY  like you I enjoy butter and sugar and cinnamon on toast. I have a shaker with sugar and cinnamon near my toaster. How about when the milkman delivered milk in the winter and it would start freezing and the lid would would pop up from the bottle and the cream on top would freeze?

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  I took a letter to the mail box a little while and and it started raining right after getting in the house.  However, it didn't last long and now the sun is starting to shine. We are suppose to have rain and possible storms throughout the day and for the next several days.  Our high is suppose to be 86, not bad for the end of July.

We had a very nice day yesterday.  I went to Sunday School and then came home and got Pat and we attended Church.  Then we stopped at McDonald's for a quick sandwich as we were both tired.  I rested in the afternoon and then Scott came out and we went to a Mexican restaurant for our dinner.  He then visited with us a couple of hours.  Nothing on my schedule for today so will just do a few little chores I see that can be done and probably rest and read a lot today.  I don't plan on going anywhere.  We are planning to have hamburgers for our dinner this evening and a salad and I don't know what else Pat will want to have.

Joy, your weather forecast sounds like ours with the chance of rain all week.  My friend in Germantown, Maryland texted me last night saying they had 8 inches of rain. It has been awhile since I read an "actual paper book" as really enjoy the ebooks that I read on my iPhone or on my Kindle app on the computer.  I still get the Book Bub email once a week and last time took four of the free books.  Since I don't need shelf space nor as I concerned about not getting all of the ebooks read I feel comfortable adding to my ebook library.

Mary Ann, I see that several of us had enjoyed the sugar and butter sandwiches.  I don't remember my mother ever fixing under the broiler.  Have you ever baked a whole onion with butter and cheese in the middle?  We have had those a few times with the Vidalia onions and they are tasty.  I only watched a few minutes of the British Open yesterday as it came on too early.  I looked up yesterday how the prize money is determined when several players end up with the same score for second or below.  If there were three players ending up second they would take the 2nd, 3rd and 4th prize money and divide it into three equal portions.  The same is one down through the last player.  I thought that was probably the way it was done but wasn't sure until I looked it up.

Lloyd, my folks sold their milk for butter fat content so we never made our  own butter. However, our neighbor did make her own butter and we often visited them on an evening and the adults played cards and then a small snack was served and it often included that farm fresh butter.

Jane, I well remember the packet of fake butter (don't remember whether it was called oleo or not) with the color button.  It was great fun to get to mix it up to get some color in the fake butter.  We haven't used oleo for many years and use a lot of real butter.  In the area I grew up all of the farms and the small towns had outhouses.

June, you are fortunate to have a nice library available to you right in your living facility.  The senior center we use to go to where we did live also had a big library and our county had a wonderful library system.  We even ended up with our library in the little town we lived near.  There were a large number of branch libraries.  I am usually getting at least a half mile of steps in each day but like today I will have to do some walking here in the house as won't be out and about.  I sure don't want to take a cold shower as am cold enough as it is.

Shirley, my mother always made her own jellies and jams so we really didn't need the fake butter on the toast.  I don't recall her ever making homemade bread, at least not very often.  I was too young to be much impacted by rationing during the war.  As I think about it I expect my mother would put some cinnamon on the sugar and butter on the bread.  I don't think Pat even has a hand egg beater anymore but has a hand held mixer and a Kitchenaid mixer to use.  I don't think we ever used Vidalia onions in soup.  I just know they are great on a hamburger.  My wife usually uses a pound or so of hamburger and a pound of sausage with some additional seasoning for our meatloaf.  She mixes it up inthe Kitchenaid mixer and it is done in a flash.

Callie, your folks had a bigger farm than my folks who had a 90 acre farm.  We tried to have 20 head of milk cows as this was a major source of income to the family.  I never liked whole milk as didn't like the cream.  I don't think Pat has ever made her meat loaf in the microwave but did make one in the Instant Pot not long ago.  It made a fairly small loaf and I think she will go back to baking it in the oven.

Amy, getting an EKG is really a quick process these days but it used to take quite awhile.  When I saw the new cardiologist a few days ago they did an EKG.  I so well remember the ones where they had to use the gook to keep the electrodes attached to the skin.  Fortunately that is no longer needed.

Gloria, It will be interesting to see if Providence will allow such a building to be built.  It seems that now anything in our past that someone or some group of people don't like must be removed or destroyed or renamed.  We had a controversy here in the Augusta area with a freeway called the John C. Calhoun but the county voted the change down renaming it.  Nice that your son is able to use your coupons for your benefit since you are not longer able to get to the produce markets or farms.  I remember some years ago when you would work some days at your son's produce stand selling apples as I recall.  Does he have any apple crop this year?  One time put put some margarine in a skillet and it cooked so long that it was solid and she realized it was like plastic and we never bought margarine again but butter and it hasn't killed us yet.

Mary Ann

Gloria, I don't understand why people want to remove names and statues of people who made history one way or another.  What happened, happened and removing the names isn't going to change that.  We're going to be so Simon Pure that we won't be interesting to anyone.

It is too bad to miss your great-grandson's 3rd birthday, but I am with you and noise a bunch of young children can make.

Larry, an onion baked with butter and cheese in the middle sounds delicious.  I'll try that sometime.  I also mixed the oleo/margarine with the yellow button.  At one time I was told to not eat butter because of the animal fat.  Gradually, we have gone back to butter.

The way they distribute the golf prize money sounds logical to me.  If I had thought about it, that is the method I would have chosen.

It's a humid day here today, but I think we have not had rain this morning.  I had a dental appointment which went well.  And now I'm going to see what is in the refrigerator for lunch.  There may be a salad and i hope the lettuce isn't too bad.

Mary Ann

Good Morning dear hearts..I feel like something drained off all my energy todayl It is going to be warmer than I iike so I will stay tucked in at home. I plan to go down for lunch soon, but no other plans except books and napping.

They will be showing the movie State Fair at 1:30 and if I happen to be awake, I may go down and watch it. So I do have choices to make...it is up to the body what happens.

Good Afternoon,

Noon weather lady said the Mold count is up and might be causing sinus issues.  I could have told her that the minute I went out to get the paper!!!!!

Jane,  I have a recipe for meat loaf in which the meat mixture is rolled around grated Mozzarella cheese like a jelly roll.   My roll usually splits and the cheese leaks out so now I'm going to try mixing it in with the meat - so much simpler!

Those of you who like onions may have my share.    We found some Vidalia Onion relish once when we were visiting Mississippi relatives.  I did like it but have never found it around here.
We get Texas Sweet Onions but very rarely have Vidalia ones.  Maybe they don't ship well.

Have made my grocery store run so am off to settle in to read and watch harbor and Times Square web cams.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good afternoon, sun shinning.   Justhome from the surgeon, he said my leg looks like it is healing very slowly.

June Ebooks are nice, but I still like to hold a real book

Gloria, my old doctor, told me not to use margarine, but get whipped butter, keep it soft, I did not use as much, and enjoy real butter.

Mary Ann, it upset me that they taken the Laura Ingalls Literary award away,  She wrote the way it was when she was growing up, she didmnot sugar coat it.

Gloria de, I have never read an e book. I have never even seen an ebook. I do most of my reading on the bed, or the recliner, where my eyes can close in sleep when the brain is ready. Since my last fall, I find sitting in front of the computer makes my back hurt. And I just cannot learn the laptop.  One finger does one thing two fingers are necessary for other things..and I am too impatient to learn.

I went down for the movie, but found it dull, so came home and slept. I feel like I could be coming down with something.....laziness ????

Running behind as usual.....

We picked Kurt and the boys up from the airport yesterday afternoon noon.  Unfortunately one of their bags were missing so we had to make a few circles around before we got Kurt picked up.

We all went to Dr. Dave’s for dinner and fun.  Then home to get beds ready for them.  We played games and had a lot of fun today while Kurt was out buying camping gear and grocery shopping before they headed for their quickly.

We had two VERY hard rains this afternoon.....lots of flooding in the area.

Dave and Grandsons Matt are at Boy Scout Camp this week.  There was so much thunder and lightening out where they are, so I have been very concerned.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Well, my day did not go as planned... and the meatloaf didn't happen..... I totally forgot to fix it so tonight I thought I'd better cook it & make spaghetti tomorrow.  My spaghetti sauce is meat held together with Hunt's spaghetti sauce, the original, and I add fresh garlic & extra seasonings.  Not decided if I'll chop an onion to put in, maybe half with & half without.  Thanks for all the meatloaf tips, I have been keeping track & will save.

Guess I'll put my 2¢ in about being "politically correct"..... My mother wrote a book of her early years after I pushed her... gave her the series of Laura Ingalls Wilder books that was pretty much her era (she was born in 1903).  Her mother died when she was 7 so her father hired a black couple that helped in the house, the farm & at their butcher shop.  At that time they did not eat with the family, my mother loved them but lives were separate. I found it interesting, a little uncomfortable when reading, but amazed at how people had changed in her lifetime.  But you can't change history or reality!  Why not be honest about it?

On that same thought, I don't agree with paying off Native Americans because their ancestors either lost or sold their land.  My grandfathers both had quite a bit of money at one time, one lost during the depression, having invested in stocks & bonds, the other bought farms for each of his kids, my mother's was an island that went under the Osage or MO river (don't remember which), when it finally changed course & land was usable again, the state wanted back taxes that weren't worth the land. At any rate, I certainly didn't inherit anything from either & don't understand why anyone believes they deserve what their ancestors lost.

Our news tonight was warning of West Nile Virus in this area... I do hate to put spray on my body every night to go down to the river so sprayed my knee high rubber boots & sprayed lightly over a hat I bought in CO... the back of the brim is extra long to cover the neck.  Didn't hear any mosquitoes until I got back to the house & started scratching my arm but couldn't find a bite, just the thought.

June, I only use laptops but use a mouse with them.  I can't cope with the little pad thing and don't want to!  I cover the pad with a piece of paper.. (actually, it's a used Amazon gift card) because that little arrow moved when my hand passed over the pad.

Got to get to bed, my head is drooping & eyes sticking together.  Sweet dreams and God Bless.... a reminder from Hal.

Do hope all the kids are safe, Jenny... lightning is scary when out camping & not really any safe place. We were camping the year/time when Big Tompson Canyon flooded... we weren't near there but worried everyone we knew. Hugs for you.

G'Morning all.
Thank you all for you comments about the 'Armchair Walks', i enjoy searching them out and it's pleasing to know others enjoy looking at them too.
Well, it's another brilliant day, no sign of any rain at the moment, it's almost three months since it last rained here in the south,at the moment, we seem to have plenty of water but in the north east of the country they already have water restrictions (Rationing) but,for the moment we are being told our water supply is ok in the south, but with these temperatures in the high 20's (in some places it even reached 33+C !, that's hot !, too hot for me anyway !.
Almost forgot, i noticed someone mentioned 'wartime rationing', that reminded me i still have my old ration book and a label that we would have worn had the invasion taken place, goodness knows where i might have finished up !, so i thought these ration figures might surprise you,
Rations for a week : Meat-4oz's. Butter-2oz's, Cheese-2oz's, Milk-3pints, Sugar-8oz's, Tea2oz's', Egg's- 1.+ Egg powder if Available. per person,

                                                                                  Cheerio.  Roley.  :).

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I wasn't as tired last night when I got home but I made the mistake of sitting down in front of the TV and that was "all she wrote"!

SHIRLEY, I agree with your "past history" comments 110% and couldn't have said it better!  Changing things doesn't change history and we make our own way.  No one can do  it for us!

Today is a "nothing" day for me.  I've had flash flood warnings on my cell phone and my land line.  Central PA must have been inundated yesterday and last night.  I'm not going out and drive around to find out.  It's a good day to stay home.  I did all the laundry yesterday and I made dog food yesterday so today will be a good day to deal with some of the garden goodies my daughter brought me.  One zucchini will probably end up in a casserole recipe I lifted from the internet and the other will end up in a batch of Amy's zucchini relish.  It's sooooo good!

Then there are cucumbers and potatoes.  One batch of my grandmothers favorite spring dish....cucumbers and onions.  Anybody have any ideas for the rest of them?

The doggies and I are awaiting the "boinger" for their pills so we can have breakfast.  Then get dressed and get started.

I hope you all have a lovely day filled with whatever you wish for!

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday went well and we did get to see the kids for a bit. I have to agree also with Shirley, we have that here also.

Hubby made the decision to sell his vehicle as he no longer drives. We put it up for sale on Sun and took the sign down on Mon....friends of ours came to look and they want it. They know we maintain our vehicles. So I just took the van to the garage for the safety and our neighbour brought me back home. Bitter sweet  as we both loved the van and it is a good one never failing us.

I too had sugar sandwiches, still do with a little cinnamon on them at times or toast with cinnamon sugar on it.  We were raised with the margarine with the bubble on it. When I farmed we had a Holstein cow that I milked for the house but not really a lot of cream there so I  bought a Jersey and gosh we got half a gallon jar of just cream with her. I made butter, first by hand and then an electric churn, thought I had the world by the tail with that one!! Gave the buttermilk to the neighbour or to the hens or dogs ,never wasted.

Jane , my zucchini plants are just starting to put out the little ones an d I too will be make that one as I am low on it. Have you tried the zucchini marmalade , it too is good. Will send you the recipe .

I need to get going, taking hubby back to the garage so he can talk with the mechanic.

Enjoy your day everyone..

"Amy's zucchini relish"...  I could not find it and I'd love to try it.  Amy could you please give me your recipe?
Marmelade from zucchini sounds like something original.

What do you think of having a discussion opened just for recipes?  If   the subject line acts as a title it will also be easy to find what one looks for.  Who is for? who thinks it is un-necessary?

Hi Everyone. It is overcast this morning but today is suppose to not get aboave 86 degrees with a good possibility of more rain this afternoon.  As I expected yesterday was a very quiet day and today may be the same except a friend will be here at 10 am to work with me on something for an hour.  I sort of expect tonight will be a TV dinner night.

Mary Ann, when Pat first fixed the baked onion I didn't think I would like it but I did.  How many things have we been told not to eat like butter and eggs and then a few years later they "power that be" reverse themselves.  Natural foods have to be better for us than processed things with a lot of chemicals.

June, hope you don't feel so drained today.  I think I somewhat know that feeling as some days I just have to drive myself to do anything and just want to lay down and rest.

Jenny, it sounds like your household has been very busy.  Did Kurt and the boys get to their place in the mountains?  Nice that Dr. Dave took a week off to go camping with the Boy Scouts.  We had some far away thunder yesterday and hard rains in certain locations but other than light showers yesterday morning we didn't get any more rain.

Callie, I understand that they have huge warehouses to keep the Vidalia onions but don't know how many states they ship to and certain stores may not buy from the source having them.  I always look for them each spring and then don't see them in the stores the rest of the year.

deAngel, at least your leg is healing and it sounds like the surgeon was satisfied with what he saw.  I certainly agree with you on Laura Ingalls Wilder's Literary award.  I loved those books and at the one room school house where I attend school until high school the teacher would always read a chapter to two from books like those and your imagination would just flourish.

Shirley, here we have black churches and white churches and they don't seem to get together too often.  I am confident that we would happily accept blacks as a part of our congregation and we have one overall organization of the United Methodists in South Carolina and the Bishop is a black man.  I sometimes wonder how much history is being taught in our schools anymore as certain agendas seem to be pushed. I also agree with you on reparations as the current generation have done nothing to earn it.  We don't use the touch pad on the laptop either but the modern day computers have a way to turn them off so we haven't had to cover them up.  I did use that methods for a number of years and when people complain of their cursor jumping when using a laptop it is almost always that problem.

Roley, I don't think I mentioned having watched the short video of the tour through the cathedral.  That is one impressive building.  Have you toured it?  Were those ration amounts the total for 7 days or per day?  Those are tiny amounts.

Jane, glad you can stay home today.  It sounds like a lot of your State and the whole NE area are really getting bombarded with rain.  We often will have cucumber and onions in vinegar water.

Amy, it sure helps on expenses not having to maintain two vehicles.  We have also given up having two vehicles as Pat really isn't driving anymore and probably won't.  I will take her where ever she needs to go and we coordinate our schedules.  Unfortunately I still own the second car that we have given our son and will sign it over to him around Christmas time although expect to still have to help him with the expenses on it.  We are really enjoying having only one car in the garage as things are no longer crowded.
