“The fireman came down the ladder pregnant,” he answered.
“Umm … Do you know what pregnant means?”
“Yes,” said the boy. “It means ?carrying a child.”

Seeing as I had the pleasure of watching this page being created I shall take the opportunity to make the first post after our Illustrious Bubble.

I don't mind being #3 after the lovebirds! Good Morning Everyfriend!  Take today and make it as you wish!

It's decided to snow a bit today.  I'm not sure what that means to our trip but if it doesn't get any colder, it won't lay on the roads.  My tires are good and if it doesn't bother Bridget, we'll probably still go.  We'll see what it's like at 2 o'clock.

Good morning everyone...

No new snow here....yet, I think to the south of us they will get the worst of the storm.
Cleaning around the home today, garbage to the dump and while out we will stop and pick up hubby's blister packs.

Jane hope you don't get the snow and you have a safe trip to your sisters. I woke to crows cawing, lots of crows so they are back! I just hope the trees don't start to bud as I am sure we will get hit with hard frosts yet.

Bubble and Don good morning. Bubble thank you for a new start page.

Joy, I just may try that ornament, I do have lots of little scraps to use up . Now to chose which one to try as they are all nice.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Don & Bubble!  Happiness in the air and a fantastic painting with "funnies" to boot.  Thanks for taking care of us, you are so smart with your creating.

I went to bed early (okay, before midnight), much on my mind so I invited Tom & Tiger to join me.  They settled down & are still sleeping, but I wanted to be sure to see if I can open the link to a weight lifting contest my youngest gr-son is going to be in this morning (in Ohio...he lives in St.Louis).  I'm not sure how important this is "in the grand scheme", but is to him so I want to make the effort to watch.

We had a fairly cold night but temps are heading up to low 60s today.  Got to get out my calendar & make my list or I'll forget & double book my "to-dos".  Not used to so much going on.  Saw in the news for aging last night that the AARP 55 Alive class will be near me in March so need to take that 8 hour class again.  Right now I am not getting the discount on my car insurance & it is worth the effort for a 3 year discount.  My church is also having photos taken for the new membership book, think it has increased about 5x over the last time. I really hate photos of moi but love being able to look up names of people I see every Sunday.

My sons are insisting they can fix the tree root that grew into the top of the well... will take some serious digging that one son doesn't mind & the other son installed the new pump motor last year so have no doubt he can take care of the electronics.  There is a whisper of rain this week end & would be worth the delay for a little moisture.  I tried to convince them to let me call the company that fixed the wire break last year but #1 son was upset they didn't come with the equipment he said they would need & cost an extra service trip and was exactly what he said it was.  The other things, getting that pool fence fixed & pool re-painted needs doing as soon as possible (March), so house bound for the duration. ICK!  Choices, choices.... not ready to move!

Ah, two early birds checking in. I do believe our crows are gone and see the cormorants are back, huge flock of them nest about a mile from me so love watching them come & go, Amy.  I don't recall seeing them before we moved to this house 30 years ago, about the same time the egrets and Canada geese started nesting in this area.

Jane, hope the snow doesn't get serious and threaten your trip, would be such a disappointment for you & the family ... and all of us!

I haven't been to read the posts from last night so no comments.  Wishing everyone a great week end.  Sure miss Hal's offer of a cup of coffee while he gives his pup a rub down...

Good morning!  I just wanted to stop by for a minute and say hi.

Shirley, house maintenance wears on me, too, but just can't even think about moving.  Guess I'll stay here and do my best to deal with it all.  Right now I don't intend to leave here until they carry me out.

Jane, I hope you don't have to cancel your weekend trip because of the weather.  We had the tail-end of your snow storm yesterday but it was just a lot of rain and dreariness.  Today it is a bright and sunny morning but they are promising winds.  After all, it is March and the wind doth blow!

June, I know it is hard for you to accept that our bodies demand that we slow down.  But your mind is so sharp and your ability to express yourself is so good that I can only hope that I can be like you as the years go by.  Others here have said it and I can just repeat....you are an inspiration to us all.

I delayed grocery shopping until today because yesterday was wet, cold and miserable so that is my chore to be done.  It is not something I enjoy but it will be nice to get out and enjoy the bright sunshine and reassure myself that the world still exists outside my door.

Take extra care today, Everyone.

Good morning everyone, 36° and raining pretty hard. On local news they are saying already wind gusts over 70mph. Almost hurricane force. Some trees down already and this storm will not stop till tomorrow and might end as sleet or snow. Yesterday afternoon the parking lot here was almost empty, people heading to the markets for that bread and milk and snacks in case the power goes out or we get snowed in at the end. Some schools canceled classes for today.

LARRY  this was a mill town and locals worked in them. Mills are all gone, torn down and chain stores built and senior housing like this one built. Some  new ones going up now for low income families and that means people from the cities. There will be some good people and some trouble makers. A new market is something this town needs badly. There is only one  where there were many neighborhood ones years ago. This one is a chain but  small and terrible. I think they send the outdated items from their busy stores here. I went in there once since moving here and wanted some loose potatoes, could not fin one good one, they either had sprouted or had soft spots. The deli counter I wanted some lunch meat but the slicer was dirty. The town bus picks up people in the senior housing places to go there and the CVS store. I feel bad for them if that is the only place they can go. I am lucky I have a PC and can order online or my son picks up some things I need when he comes here every week and I can ask my other son to get something when he goes shopping.

JOY  those Quilted ornaments sound interesting. I feel I am lucky with my hands I can still type here. This morning the weather people are making this storm sound worse than they said yesterday. Hope we do not lose power.

CAROL  my daughter near Kingman, Az. said the mountains higher than them had snow on the peaks.

LLOYD  lucky you to have that fresh honey and know it is pure honey.

JUNE  I am smiling picturing you outside wearing the feathers and beating your drum. Love your sense of humor. Those without it must be sad indeed. It might have been an email from Jenny about the Thomas family. Nadia was married before SN shut us out. Nadia had sent me some wedding pictures to post but then there was no place to post them. Unfortunately I saved them on the computer and not on  my external. I know we all miss Joan so much.

JANE  your do little days still mean you do more than I can do every day.

AMY  not many stores will tell you what to do with those clementines so you can return them. Where I lived it was on the fly path for the geese and they were pretty loud when the went over.

SHIRLEY  glad you enjoy the goodies from Joan that I saved. Will have to ask my grandson how I can hook up my old external to see if I can get the ones on there I saved.

CAROLYN  you are going into my  favorite season, autumn. No more high humidity and cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage.

JENNY  love the Fifth Set. Hope you don't mind but I have copies it to share with others. Thanks.

BUBBLE  thank you for the new page. Good graphic. Like your jokes.

DON  good seeing you the first one here.

JANE  hope the weather cooperates for your trip. Terrible here.

AMY  like you I hope things here do not start blossoming yet. Every thine that happens we get a deep freeze and all the blossoms die. Happened several times to my son's apple trees so no crop.

SHIRLEY  you still get me worn out taking care of that big house, yard and pool no one uses not to mention the critters you feed.

JANE  wish Hal was here to invite us for a cup of coffee.

PHYLLIS  this storm has started here and is supposed to continue into tomorrow. Started raining last night.Good morning everyone, 36° and raining pretty hard. Since the Pledge of Allegiance
And, The Lord's Prayer, Are not allowed in most
Public schools anymore. Because the word 'God' is mentioned.....
A kid  (15 y.o.) in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW School prayer:

"New Pledge of Allegiance"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
Hi Everyone.  We awoke this morning to a beautiful sunny sky and it will be that way all day and will get into the mid-60's.  I have nothing on my schedule for today so will just have a nice quiet and restful day.  I did go to coffee yesterday and then last evening we did go to Ruby Tuesday's to take advantage of the buy one get one coupon we had.  We had another very good meal.  It has been very windy and rainy all afternoon and was still raining when we left but by the time to got to the restaurant the rain had stopped and the wind died down.
Joy, I don't think I have ever heard of "Quilted Ornaments".  I will have to ask Pat whether she has heard of them but would expect she has seen them on some of the quilting sites she visits daily or in the quilting magazines.  I just saw the notice that the Government offices in Washington, DC are closed for business today due to the weather conditions up your way.  I hope you can stay in today and stay safe.
Carol, I hope your daughter had a good flight into Tucson and you all have a great time while she is there.  Thanks for the brownies.  You can never go wrong with those.
Lloyd, did the bees do you well?  I hope you were able to harvest a lot of honey.  I have had two months now not having a house payment and it is a good feeling as it was a fairly large payment each month.
June, you had the opportunity to have a double dose of devotions yesterday and an extra blessing for the day.  Now don't be doing too much "rain dancing" out your way.  I lot mandarin oranges on a salad.  They have them on the big salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays and I always enjoy them. I see that you retired from your choir.  I know that is a hard decision but you have made your contribution over the years.
Jane, do your dogs enjoy riding in the car?  I hope you have just a great weekend with your sister.  Glad you will be staying in touch with us on your iPad where you are away this weekend.  I remember traveling with the heavy laptops and it is quite a change with the lightweight tablets and smart phones.  Glad to read that you are sleeping better.
Amy, it is frustrating to open a bag of fruit and find spoiled pieces.  I have had to return a couple of bags of fruit recently for that reason.  I try to be very careful but with a large bag one can't see all of the pieces in the bag before buy it.
Shirley, are you going to the mountains soon?  Do you have a snow shovel in your motor home?
Carolyn, I sure understand the difficulty of getting up from the floor.  I am very concerned that Pat may fall and I wouldn't be able to lift her.  We have never regretted having a housekeeper come every two weeks to do the cleaning.  We have had this service for quite a few years now.  I have a good friend with Celiac disease and when I lived in Georgia we had a group of men who went to lunch together once a week.  He had to be careful what he ordered and there were some places we just wouldn't go as they wouldn't have anything he could ate for a good meal.  I just heard from another friend that he has had a bad flareup.  I am sure you are good reference for Grace on how to fix foods that you both can eat.  Obviously ChiChi enjoyed all the attention.
Jenny, that was a great piece you shared and it is so true.  I wanted to share with you the name of a group that I have really enjoyed listening to on Spotify.  It is called Collabro.  I have been listening to them this morning as I love that type of singing.
Bubble, thanks for getting us a fresh start for March.  I liked what you shared as well.
Don, Bubble is very talented and I really appreciate her work here and the help she has been to me on a couple of issues.
Phyllis, I hope the bad weather stays North of you.  Are your store now offering on line shopping grocery shopping. We have now used that service from Walmart and it works wonderfully well and they even come out and put the order in your car for you.  We have been very happy with it and only had a couple of problems the worst being a bag of apples that had a couple of bad ones in it.  I did return them and got a refund on a gift card as they couldn't find the order in their computer although I had the order details on my phone including the order number.
Gloria, that is pretty severe winds in your area.  I hope you don't lose power. This little town where we live is also experiencing changes and new businesses opening.  We are just across the river from Augusta, Georgia and that is a much bigger town and easy to access.  I am so glad to be away from the Atlanta area as the pace of life seems much slower.  That Pledge of Allegiance the young fellow wrote seems to pretty well sum of the position we find in our country today.
As I watch the Weather Channel and see  Poor Little Rhode Island covered with snow, I think of Gloria and hope you don't have to stay inside too long.  Not only that, but we are covered in sunshine!  Joy, I hope  you don't get too much snow, either.  Phyllis, are you included in the snow forecast?
I'm not making fun of you ladies because it is early March and I know we'll get more yet this year.
Just stopping by to say "hello"
It is a very, very windy day here in my part of the east coast.  I have a lot of big, tall pine trees right across the driveway from my building and I have been watching them all morning.  At times it is very scary.  We could have wind gusts up to 70 mph this afternoon.  I was thinking if I see one coming my way, I would try to get down under my computer desk.  Don't know how I would get out, but it might help me survive.  LOL
We had a lot of rain during the night and then some snow early this morning.  The sun is half-in and half-out and the snow is all gone, but not this wind.
Larry,, if Pat or you would like to see the "quilted ornaments" , just google  them and lots will show up.  They are very addictive.  I joined a group and am trying to master the art.  Some are very intricate and I need a lot of patience.   But, it is something different for me to try to learn and give me something different to do.  I am sure they will get easier as I go along.
It is getting to be my lunchtime.  I ate breakfast a little later this morning, so not really that hungry right now.   Probably cheese and crackers in a little while.
Hope everyone will have a nice afternoon.
Good Afternoon, Everyfriend,
This has been a very busy week - with some kind of appointment or meeting every day.  Didn't really need the "drama" that yesterday ended with!
DIL and I got in about 3:00 p.m from having gone OTL and doing various things .   As we were drinking iced tea there was a "tap tap" on the patio door, which I had opened to the fresh air.
A "Safety Services" guy connected with our natural gas company was doing a neighborhood inspection and said there was a leak in the pipe leading from my house, which is my responsibility.  He had called ONG who was sending someone out.
That "someone" arrived at 4:15, shut off the gas, tagged the pipe and told me I would have to get a plumber to fix it before the gas could be turned back on.
My regular heating/a/c/plumbing company didn't have anyone available until this morning so I called one of the popular ones whose trucks I had previously seen working in the neighborhood,
"Jonathan" arrived at 5:15, identified the leak as a tiny one just under the surface that had probably been there for years but was too small to emit odor or affect my bill.
However, he didn't have the right pipe size on his truck - so "Jerry" brought him one at 6:15.
They finished at 6:30 and Jonathon said he would wait while I called the ONG Customer Service number I'd been given earlier so he could tell the rep what he had done.
After being on hold for 15 minutes,  "Sandy" took the necessary information from me and then talked with Jonathon, who told her someone needed to come asap because temperatures were supposed to get down to freezing.
She assured me someone would be here but she couldn't say when it would be.
I settled into the recliner under a warm throw and, of course, dozed off.  I'm sure I would have been fine there all night.    Phone rang at 11:15 p.m. and ONG rep said he was 5 minutes out  He was and arrived very shortly in a company truck, wearing a company uniform and with proper ID .   After inspecting the repair and turning on the gas, he had me turn on the thermostat to be sure the furnace functioned while he checked the hot water heater in the garage.
All worked - and he was gone by 11:45 p.m.
I was VERY impressed with how kind, thoughtful and thorough each and every person was and pleasantly surprised at the bill for the after-hours service call, particularly since Jonathon offered to stay and talk to the ONG rep after he had given me the invoice - which was before he knew how long I'd be on hold.
I was able to get the usual # hours sleep but am still working on feeling "settled" so just skimmed the posts in our new Soda Shoppe.
Glad there isn't anywhere I need to be at a certain time for the next few days.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
My goodness, Callie, you certainly didn't need that kind of excitement, especially lasting so long into the night.  I kept waiting for someone to tell you it was a scam, so luckily it was not.
I am watching the Weather Channel again and I realized I left out Gloria D when I mentioned those in the path of the storm.  It still seems almost unbelievable since we are at 50 degrees with bright sunshine.
I am waiting for the men's golf to come on and I think it will be soon.  It's not as exciting as the storm, but I like to watch it anyway.
My lunch today is an egg salad sandwich and I have enough for another sandwich tomorrow.
Much of the ice on Lake Michigan at Grand Haven has gone out.  Cold weather in the future will form more ice, but it will be thin so no one will go out on it.  I have not heard of any rescues on the lake so far this year.
We did not have the predicted rain in our area…..darn !! It was more like a heavy due that made our sidewalks damp. They keep telling us more "storms" are expected, but the sun  keeps lighting up the sky. So I took the body out for a walk halfway around our property. We are supposedly on four acres of land, and if I went half way around, would that count for two acres ? And if so how many miles in an Acre ??????
I plan to go down at 2 o'clock, and listen to the Singing Good Timers, and soon I will go down for lunch, and possibly supper later on…….decisions, decisions…….in the meantime I seek the skies for rain drops.
Good Morning Bubble and Don. How nice to see you both posting for us.  :smitten: :smitten:
Janie, if the snow allowed, you should be on your trip by now. Bon Voyage…..go with God.
Phyllis, Your kind words overcome me. You have given me sunshine on a cloudy day. Thank you my dear one.
Gloria, I will have to search hard for the feathers and a drum…the dance is always available. What we have had in rain is a mild dew. boo hoo……..
Larry, thank you for understanding…..I do feel badly about quitting Choir, but it is only the fair thing to do. No sense in being a member in absentia. But I cannot regret any thing….Singing can be done in my apt. at any time, any day, and I was doing an oldie this morning…A Tear Dropped, by Theresa Brewer. The computer is a wonderful instrument.
Joy, I am going down for lunch soon….then home to book and a nap…..what a grand life I lead……see you later dear hearts. June
Mary Ann, I'm sorry to be so slow to answer your question about if we got snow.  The answer is, thank goodness, no snow.  We had cold and rainy weather all day yesterday.  It apparently was the very tail end of the big nor' easter that is hitting the upper east coast today and for a couple of days.  Today, as Joy is having up north of D.C., we  are having very high winds.  I really had to fight to stay on course when I was walking across the grocery store parking lot.  The winds are supposed to die down by approx. 10 o'clock tonight.  The really good thing is we have had blue skies and bright sun all day.  That was very enjoyable.
I can imagine that the Lake water is still pretty cold even though the ice is gone......for now.
Phyllis, I'm glad to hear you escaped the worst of the storm.  I looked to see if they were posting the temps at Grand Haven and they're there for the first in a long time.  The water temperature showed 32 degrees, just at freezing, but I don't expect any more thick ice.
I feel guilty with our nice day compared to what others in the East are getting - but I'll take it!!!
Back from our program, "The Singing Good Timers." They were great...all Irish songs today, so we did a lot of singing along with them. Then Rowntree served cookies and punch..yummy. Now I am home and ready for a belated nap. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
On Friday Bubble and I ventured to the jam-packed city square to take part in the Shoshan Purim  celebrations, and what gorgeous day it was! Thousands of people converged on the centre, and Bubble in her Santa hat and I  in full Santa regalia were warmly greeted. Security was, as expected, high, but the security personnel were in good spirits and occasionally posed for selfies. One striking photo I took was of a mom and her daughters, the children in their costumes and she in her army uniform fully armed with an automatic weapon.
Good morning everyone..
Cloudy here and I hope the sun peeks out as I would like to hang laundry out.  We missed all the snow from yesterday ,down south of us they had to contend with heavy wet snow. Not much going on today, hope to get another quilt top done if possible. Jack the ripper) and I had a date yesterday and I hope that is the end of it.
I hope Jane made it to her sisters and is enjoying a good visit.
Don, loved the photos ,you both look to be having a wonderful time.
Better get the laundry started..slow to move this morning.
Coffee and lemon cranberry muffins in the hidey hole .
Enjoy your day everyone..
Hi Everyone.  Our morning started out in the mid-40's and it is bright and sunny with no wind and headed into the mid-60's this afternoon. I stayed home all day yesterday and will likely do the same today.  I got the dishwasher emptied and the trash out and am just waiting for Pat to get up when I will probably fix her breakfast.  Yesterday afternoon Pat did some cooking and we had chicken from the Instant Pot, friend potatoes and onions and broccoli along with apple pie.  Fortunately there is enough left over to make us a good supper this evening as well.  I plan on watching some basketball and golf this afternoon.  In a little while I am going to order the rest of the pull-out shelves that we need for our lower kitchen cabinets and one for Pat's side of the bathroom sink.
Joy, I hope no trees fell on your apartment building and that the power stayed on.  If your bathroom has no outside windows that would probably make a better and safer place for you than under your computer desk.  I did ask Pat about the "quilted ornaments" and she said she had made some several years ago.
Callie, sure glad you were able to get your heat back on and the gas leak fixed without breaking the bank.  I have no worries about gas leaks in my home or this development as everything is electric and our power lines are underground.  Glad your DIL was with you when the first guy came to your door although expect he had a proper uniform and an id badge.
Mary Ann, I had the same thought about Callie and the gas man and was glad to see that all was on the up and up.
June, remember that a choir needs someone to listen to them and now you can be in that role and that is doing your part.  I did a quick web search on how many feet around two acres and the response is too complicated for me to try to explain, especially since I really don't understand it and it depends on the shape of the two acres. Glad you were able to attend the program and enjoy the Irish songs.
Phyllis, I hope you enjoyed the same type of day we had here yesterday as it was beautiful if not as warm as we have been having.  We didn't have any wind yesterday and none today.
Don, I enjoyed seeing the pictures and it looks like that must have been quite a celebration.  Why the costumes on Shoshan Purim? I really don't know much about Jewish celebrations.
Amy, glad you missed the snow.  Good quilting today and hope you can let Jack the ripper rest if you worked him hard yesterday.
I don't see a new postings from either Gloria de or our other Gloria and sure hope they are in a situation without electricity.
Lloyd, it sounds like you are to have a nice day.
  Larry there is no definitive answer for why they dress up for Purim. The whole celebration is based on deception and disguise. The most notable  example being Queen Esther herself who, although the  queen of Persia concealed the fact that she was a Jew and in so doing by masking her identity, saved her nation from extermination. From this action the tradition of costumes and dressing up evolved.
A good Saturday morning to EVERYFRIEND.
I have been watching the weather and praying for our friends that are having the terrible damaging storms in their area.  I do hope they all are safe and have not had too much damage.
Thank you LARRY and GLORIA, for your nice comments about my shared “5th Set”.  I hoped EVERYFRIEND would enjoy it as much as I did as it is so what many of us are dealing with in our lives right now.
Yesterday was beautiful here, so we had all the doors and windows opened to air our home out.  I guess fresh air was a bit too much for me as I managed to have an issue with being light headed when I got up from my chair, and before I knew it I was on the ground wondering what happened to me.  It happened so fast.....and yet the fall itself was in slow motion from what I could remember.  The only damage done is from a fingernail puncture and a bruise on the top of my hand from Bob trying to hold me as I went down.  I am thankful as my head was an inch from the brick hearth of our fireplace.  Sure glad I missed that.
Last night we spent time with the grands while their parents went to a gala to raise money for Colon / Rectal Cancer Research.  As many of you might remember my daughter-in-love is a cancer survivor.  We sure enjoy our time with them as they are of an age that we can talk and have a wonderful time together.
GLORIA, I am pleased that you want to share the 5th Set.  Thank you for doing so.  I do hope you are doing OK.  I hope to see a post from you today.
LARRY, I did a search on Spotify for Collabro andI have saved a few of their songs on my favorites list.  Thank you for the suggestion.
CALLIE, thank goodness most everything that transpired with the gas leak turned out very well and that you found everyone to be so helpful and caring.  It sure could have been a LOT worse.
Thank you, DON, for sharing the pictures and the explanation of Pirum.  How interesting about Queen Esther and the tradition of why they dress up.  I remember well you and Bubble doing this the last time you were visiting there.
JANE, I do hope the drive to your sisters place was uneventful and that you are enjoying a wonderful visit.
It is another beautiful day so we are going to get out and take advantage of it.
Enjoy your day....
Jenny
