Seeing as I had the pleasure of watching this page being created I shall take the opportunity to make the first post after our Illustrious Bubble.

I don't mind being #3 after the lovebirds! Good Morning Everyfriend!  Take today and make it as you wish!

It's decided to snow a bit today.  I'm not sure what that means to our trip but if it doesn't get any colder, it won't lay on the roads.  My tires are good and if it doesn't bother Bridget, we'll probably still go.  We'll see what it's like at 2 o'clock.

Good morning everyone...

No new snow here....yet, I think to the south of us they will get the worst of the storm.
Cleaning around the home today, garbage to the dump and while out we will stop and pick up hubby's blister packs.

Jane hope you don't get the snow and you have a safe trip to your sisters. I woke to crows cawing, lots of crows so they are back! I just hope the trees don't start to bud as I am sure we will get hit with hard frosts yet.

Bubble and Don good morning. Bubble thank you for a new start page.

Joy, I just may try that ornament, I do have lots of little scraps to use up . Now to chose which one to try as they are all nice.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Don & Bubble!  Happiness in the air and a fantastic painting with "funnies" to boot.  Thanks for taking care of us, you are so smart with your creating.

I went to bed early (okay, before midnight), much on my mind so I invited Tom & Tiger to join me.  They settled down & are still sleeping, but I wanted to be sure to see if I can open the link to a weight lifting contest my youngest gr-son is going to be in this morning (in Ohio...he lives in St.Louis).  I'm not sure how important this is "in the grand scheme", but is to him so I want to make the effort to watch.

We had a fairly cold night but temps are heading up to low 60s today.  Got to get out my calendar & make my list or I'll forget & double book my "to-dos".  Not used to so much going on.  Saw in the news for aging last night that the AARP 55 Alive class will be near me in March so need to take that 8 hour class again.  Right now I am not getting the discount on my car insurance & it is worth the effort for a 3 year discount.  My church is also having photos taken for the new membership book, think it has increased about 5x over the last time. I really hate photos of moi but love being able to look up names of people I see every Sunday.

My sons are insisting they can fix the tree root that grew into the top of the well... will take some serious digging that one son doesn't mind & the other son installed the new pump motor last year so have no doubt he can take care of the electronics.  There is a whisper of rain this week end & would be worth the delay for a little moisture.  I tried to convince them to let me call the company that fixed the wire break last year but #1 son was upset they didn't come with the equipment he said they would need & cost an extra service trip and was exactly what he said it was.  The other things, getting that pool fence fixed & pool re-painted needs doing as soon as possible (March), so house bound for the duration. ICK!  Choices, choices.... not ready to move!

Ah, two early birds checking in. I do believe our crows are gone and see the cormorants are back, huge flock of them nest about a mile from me so love watching them come & go, Amy.  I don't recall seeing them before we moved to this house 30 years ago, about the same time the egrets and Canada geese started nesting in this area.

Jane, hope the snow doesn't get serious and threaten your trip, would be such a disappointment for you & the family ... and all of us!

I haven't been to read the posts from last night so no comments.  Wishing everyone a great week end.  Sure miss Hal's offer of a cup of coffee while he gives his pup a rub down...

On Hal's behalf.....COFFEE'S READY!  And, if it makes you happy, Shirley, the doggies are under the desk.  I'll give each of them a rub.

Good morning!  I just wanted to stop by for a minute and say hi.

Shirley, house maintenance wears on me, too, but just can't even think about moving.  Guess I'll stay here and do my best to deal with it all.  Right now I don't intend to leave here until they carry me out.

Jane, I hope you don't have to cancel your weekend trip because of the weather.  We had the tail-end of your snow storm yesterday but it was just a lot of rain and dreariness.  Today it is a bright and sunny morning but they are promising winds.  After all, it is March and the wind doth blow!

June, I know it is hard for you to accept that our bodies demand that we slow down.  But your mind is so sharp and your ability to express yourself is so good that I can only hope that I can be like you as the years go by.  Others here have said it and I can just repeat....you are an inspiration to us all.

I delayed grocery shopping until today because yesterday was wet, cold and miserable so that is my chore to be done.  It is not something I enjoy but it will be nice to get out and enjoy the bright sunshine and reassure myself that the world still exists outside my door.

Take extra care today, Everyone.

Good morning everyone, 36° and raining pretty hard. On local news they are saying already wind gusts over 70mph. Almost hurricane force. Some trees down already and this storm will not stop till tomorrow and might end as sleet or snow. Yesterday afternoon the parking lot here was almost empty, people heading to the markets for that bread and milk and snacks in case the power goes out or we get snowed in at the end. Some schools canceled classes for today.

LARRY  this was a mill town and locals worked in them. Mills are all gone, torn down and chain stores built and senior housing like this one built. Some  new ones going up now for low income families and that means people from the cities. There will be some good people and some trouble makers. A new market is something this town needs badly. There is only one  where there were many neighborhood ones years ago. This one is a chain but  small and terrible. I think they send the outdated items from their busy stores here. I went in there once since moving here and wanted some loose potatoes, could not fin one good one, they either had sprouted or had soft spots. The deli counter I wanted some lunch meat but the slicer was dirty. The town bus picks up people in the senior housing places to go there and the CVS store. I feel bad for them if that is the only place they can go. I am lucky I have a PC and can order online or my son picks up some things I need when he comes here every week and I can ask my other son to get something when he goes shopping.

JOY  those Quilted ornaments sound interesting. I feel I am lucky with my hands I can still type here. This morning the weather people are making this storm sound worse than they said yesterday. Hope we do not lose power.

CAROL  my daughter near Kingman, Az. said the mountains higher than them had snow on the peaks.

LLOYD  lucky you to have that fresh honey and know it is pure honey.

JUNE  I am smiling picturing you outside wearing the feathers and beating your drum. Love your sense of humor. Those without it must be sad indeed. It might have been an email from Jenny about the Thomas family. Nadia was married before SN shut us out. Nadia had sent me some wedding pictures to post but then there was no place to post them. Unfortunately I saved them on the computer and not on  my external. I know we all miss Joan so much.

JANE  your do little days still mean you do more than I can do every day.

AMY  not many stores will tell you what to do with those clementines so you can return them. Where I lived it was on the fly path for the geese and they were pretty loud when the went over.

SHIRLEY  glad you enjoy the goodies from Joan that I saved. Will have to ask my grandson how I can hook up my old external to see if I can get the ones on there I saved.

CAROLYN  you are going into my  favorite season, autumn. No more high humidity and cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage.

JENNY  love the Fifth Set. Hope you don't mind but I have copies it to share with others. Thanks.

BUBBLE  thank you for the new page. Good graphic. Like your jokes.

DON  good seeing you the first one here.

JANE  hope the weather cooperates for your trip. Terrible here.

AMY  like you I hope things here do not start blossoming yet. Every thine that happens we get a deep freeze and all the blossoms die. Happened several times to my son's apple trees so no crop.

SHIRLEY  you still get me worn out taking care of that big house, yard and pool no one uses not to mention the critters you feed.

JANE  wish Hal was here to invite us for a cup of coffee.

PHYLLIS  this storm has started here and is supposed to continue into tomorrow. Started raining last night.Good morning everyone, 36° and raining pretty hard. Since the Pledge of Allegiance
And, The Lord's Prayer, Are not allowed in most
Public schools anymore. Because the word 'God' is mentioned.....
A kid  (15 y.o.) in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW School prayer:

"New Pledge of Allegiance"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
 Hi Everyone.  We awoke this morning to a beautiful sunny sky and it will be that way all day and will get into the mid-60's.  I have nothing on my schedule for today so will just have a nice quiet and restful day.  I did go to coffee yesterday and then last evening we did go to Ruby Tuesday's to take advantage of the buy one get one coupon we had.  We had another very good meal.  It has been very windy and rainy all afternoon and was still raining when we left but by the time to got to the restaurant the rain had stopped and the wind died down.
Joy, I don't think I have ever heard of "Quilted Ornaments".  I will have to ask Pat whether she has heard of them but would expect she has seen them on some of the quilting sites she visits daily or in the quilting magazines.  I just saw the notice that the Government offices in Washington, DC are closed for business today due to the weather conditions up your way.  I hope you can stay in today and stay safe.
Carol, I hope your daughter had a good flight into Tucson and you all have a great time while she is there.  Thanks for the brownies.  You can never go wrong with those.
Lloyd, did the bees do you well?  I hope you were able to harvest a lot of honey.  I have had two months now not having a house payment and it is a good feeling as it was a fairly large payment each month.
June, you had the opportunity to have a double dose of devotions yesterday and an extra blessing for the day.  Now don't be doing too much "rain dancing" out your way.  I lot mandarin oranges on a salad.  They have them on the big salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays and I always enjoy them. I see that you retired from your choir.  I know that is a hard decision but you have made your contribution over the years.
Jane, do your dogs enjoy riding in the car?  I hope you have just a great weekend with your sister.  Glad you will be staying in touch with us on your iPad where you are away this weekend.  I remember traveling with the heavy laptops and it is quite a change with the lightweight tablets and smart phones.  Glad to read that you are sleeping better.
Amy, it is frustrating to open a bag of fruit and find spoiled pieces.  I have had to return a couple of bags of fruit recently for that reason.  I try to be very careful but with a large bag one can't see all of the pieces in the bag before buy it.
Shirley, are you going to the mountains soon?  Do you have a snow shovel in your motor home?
Carolyn, I sure understand the difficulty of getting up from the floor.  I am very concerned that Pat may fall and I wouldn't be able to lift her.  We have never regretted having a housekeeper come every two weeks to do the cleaning.  We have had this service for quite a few years now.  I have a good friend with Celiac disease and when I lived in Georgia we had a group of men who went to lunch together once a week.  He had to be careful what he ordered and there were some places we just wouldn't go as they wouldn't have anything he could ate for a good meal.  I just heard from another friend that he has had a bad flareup.  I am sure you are good reference for Grace on how to fix foods that you both can eat.  Obviously ChiChi enjoyed all the attention.
Jenny, that was a great piece you shared and it is so true.  I wanted to share with you the name of a group that I have really enjoyed listening to on Spotify.  It is called Collabro.  I have been listening to them this morning as I love that type of singing.
Bubble, thanks for getting us a fresh start for March.  I liked what you shared as well.
Don, Bubble is very talented and I really appreciate her work here and the help she has been to me on a couple of issues.
Phyllis, I hope the bad weather stays North of you.  Are your store now offering on line shopping grocery shopping. We have now used that service from Walmart and it works wonderfully well and they even come out and put the order in your car for you.  We have been very happy with it and only had a couple of problems the worst being a bag of apples that had a couple of bad ones in it.  I did return them and got a refund on a gift card as they couldn't find the order in their computer although I had the order details on my phone including the order number.
Gloria, that is pretty severe winds in your area.  I hope you don't lose power. This little town where we live is also experiencing changes and new businesses opening.  We are just across the river from Augusta, Georgia and that is a much bigger town and easy to access.  I am so glad to be away from the Atlanta area as the pace of life seems much slower.  That Pledge of Allegiance the young fellow wrote seems to pretty well sum of the position we find in our country today.
As I watch the Weather Channel and see  Poor Little Rhode Island covered with snow, I think of Gloria and hope you don't have to stay inside too long.  Not only that, but we are covered in sunshine!  Joy, I hope  you don't get too much snow, either.  Phyllis, are you included in the snow forecast?
I'm not making fun of you ladies because it is early March and I know we'll get more yet this year.
Just stopping by to say "hello"
It is a very, very windy day here in my part of the east coast.  I have a lot of big, tall pine trees right across the driveway from my building and I have been watching them all morning.  At times it is very scary.  We could have wind gusts up to 70 mph this afternoon.  I was thinking if I see one coming my way, I would try to get down under my computer desk.  Don't know how I would get out, but it might help me survive.  LOL
We had a lot of rain during the night and then some snow early this morning.  The sun is half-in and half-out and the snow is all gone, but not this wind.
Larry,, if Pat or you would like to see the "quilted ornaments" , just google  them and lots will show up.  They are very addictive.  I joined a group and am trying to master the art.  Some are very intricate and I need a lot of patience.   But, it is something different for me to try to learn and give me something different to do.  I am sure they will get easier as I go along.
It is getting to be my lunchtime.  I ate breakfast a little later this morning, so not really that hungry right now.   Probably cheese and crackers in a little while.
Hope everyone will have a nice afternoon.
Joy
Good Afternoon, Everyfriend,
This has been a very busy week - with some kind of appointment or meeting every day.  Didn't really need the "drama" that yesterday ended with!
DIL and I got in about 3:00 p.m from having gone OTL and doing various things .   As we were drinking iced tea there was a "tap tap" on the patio door, which I had opened to the fresh air.
A "Safety Services" guy connected with our natural gas company was doing a neighborhood inspection and said there was a leak in the pipe leading from my house, which is my responsibility.  He had called ONG who was sending someone out.
That "someone" arrived at 4:15, shut off the gas, tagged the pipe and told me I would have to get a plumber to fix it before the gas could be turned back on.
My regular heating/a/c/plumbing company didn't have anyone available until this morning so I called one of the popular ones whose trucks I had previously seen working in the neighborhood,
"Jonathan" arrived at 5:15, identified the leak as a tiny one just under the surface that had probably been there for years but was too small to emit odor or affect my bill.
However, he didn't have the right pipe size on his truck - so "Jerry" brought him one at 6:15.
They finished at 6:30 and Jonathon said he would wait while I called the ONG Customer Service number I'd been given earlier so he could tell the rep what he had done.
After being on hold for 15 minutes,  "Sandy" took the necessary information from me and then talked with Jonathon, who told her someone needed to come asap because temperatures were supposed to get down to freezing.
She assured me someone would be here but she couldn't say when it would be.
I settled into the recliner under a warm throw and, of course, dozed off.  I'm sure I would have been fine there all night.    Phone rang at 11:15 p.m. and ONG rep said he was 5 minutes out  He was and arrived very shortly in a company truck, wearing a company uniform and with proper ID .   After inspecting the repair and turning on the gas, he had me turn on the thermostat to be sure the furnace functioned while he checked the hot water heater in the garage.
All worked - and he was gone by 11:45 p.m.
I was VERY impressed with how kind, thoughtful and thorough each and every person was and pleasantly surprised at the bill for the after-hours service call, particularly since Jonathon offered to stay and talk to the ONG rep after he had given me the invoice - which was before he knew how long I'd be on hold.
I was able to get the usual # hours sleep but am still working on feeling "settled" so just skimmed the posts in our new Soda Shoppe.
Glad there isn't anywhere I need to be at a certain time for the next few days.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
My goodness, Callie, you certainly didn't need that kind of excitement, especially lasting so long into the night.  I kept waiting for someone to tell you it was a scam, so luckily it was not.
I am watching the Weather Channel again and I realized I left out Gloria D when I mentioned those in the path of the storm.  It still seems almost unbelievable since we are at 50 degrees with bright sunshine.
I am waiting for the men's golf to come on and I think it will be soon.  It's not as exciting as the storm, but I like to watch it anyway.
My lunch today is an egg salad sandwich and I have enough for another sandwich tomorrow.
Much of the ice on Lake Michigan at Grand Haven has gone out.  Cold weather in the future will form more ice, but it will be thin so no one will go out on it.  I have not heard of any rescues on the lake so far this year.
We did not have the predicted rain in our area…..darn !! It was more like a heavy due that made our sidewalks damp. They keep telling us more "storms" are expected, but the sun  keeps lighting up the sky. So I took the body out for a walk halfway around our property. We are supposedly on four acres of land, and if I went half way around, would that count for two acres ? And if so how many miles in an Acre ??????
I plan to go down at 2 o'clock, and listen to the Singing Good Timers, and soon I will go down for lunch, and possibly supper later on…….decisions, decisions…….in the meantime I seek the skies for rain drops.
Good Morning Bubble and Don. How nice to see you both posting for us.  :smitten: :smitten:
Janie, if the snow allowed, you should be on your trip by now. Bon Voyage…..go with God.
Phyllis, Your kind words overcome me. You have given me sunshine on a cloudy day. Thank you my dear one.
Gloria, I will have to search hard for the feathers and a drum…the dance is always available. What we have had in rain is a mild dew. boo hoo……..
Larry, thank you for understanding…..I do feel badly about quitting Choir, but it is only the fair thing to do. No sense in being a member in absentia. But I cannot regret any thing….Singing can be done in my apt. at any time, any day, and I was doing an oldie this morning…A Tear Dropped, by Theresa Brewer. The computer is a wonderful instrument.
Joy, I am going down for lunch soon….then home to book and a nap…..what a grand life I lead……see you later dear hearts. June
Mary Ann, I'm sorry to be so slow to answer your question about if we got snow.  The answer is, thank goodness, no snow.  We had cold and rainy weather all day yesterday.  It apparently was the very tail end of the big nor' easter that is hitting the upper east coast today and for a couple of days.  Today, as Joy is having up north of D.C., we  are having very high winds.  I really had to fight to stay on course when I was walking across the grocery store parking lot.  The winds are supposed to die down by approx. 10 o'clock tonight.  The really good thing is we have had blue skies and bright sun all day.  That was very enjoyable.
I can imagine that the Lake water is still pretty cold even though the ice is gone......for now.
Phyllis, I'm glad to hear you escaped the worst of the storm.  I looked to see if they were posting the temps at Grand Haven and they're there for the first in a long time.  The water temperature showed 32 degrees, just at freezing, but I don't expect any more thick ice.
I feel guilty with our nice day compared to what others in the East are getting - but I'll take it!!!
On Friday Bubble and I ventured to the jam-packed city square to take part in the Shoshan Purim  celebrations, and what gorgeous day it was! Thousands of people converged on the centre, and Bubble in her Santa hat and I  in full Santa regalia were warmly greeted. Security was, as expected, high, but the security personnel were in good spirits and occasionally posed for selfies. One striking photo I took was of a mom and her daughters, the children in their costumes and she in her army uniform fully armed with an automatic weapon.
Good morning everyone..
Cloudy here and I hope the sun peeks out as I would like to hang laundry out.  We missed all the snow from yesterday ,down south of us they had to contend with heavy wet snow. Not much going on today, hope to get another quilt top done if possible. Jack the ripper) and I had a date yesterday and I hope that is the end of it.
I hope Jane made it to her sisters and is enjoying a good visit.
Don, loved the photos ,you both look to be having a wonderful time.
Better get the laundry started..slow to move this morning.
Coffee and lemon cranberry muffins in the hidey hole .
Enjoy your day everyone..
 Hi Everyone.  Our morning started out in the mid-40's and it is bright and sunny with no wind and headed into the mid-60's this afternoon. I stayed home all day yesterday and will likely do the same today.  I got the dishwasher emptied and the trash out and am just waiting for Pat to get up when I will probably fix her breakfast.  Yesterday afternoon Pat did some cooking and we had chicken from the Instant Pot, friend potatoes and onions and broccoli along with apple pie.  Fortunately there is enough left over to make us a good supper this evening as well.  I plan on watching some basketball and golf this afternoon.  In a little while I am going to order the rest of the pull-out shelves that we need for our lower kitchen cabinets and one for Pat's side of the bathroom sink.
Joy, I hope no trees fell on your apartment building and that the power stayed on.  If your bathroom has no outside windows that would probably make a better and safer place for you than under your computer desk.  I did ask Pat about the "quilted ornaments" and she said she had made some several years ago.
Callie, sure glad you were able to get your heat back on and the gas leak fixed without breaking the bank.  I have no worries about gas leaks in my home or this development as everything is electric and our power lines are underground.  Glad your DIL was with you when the first guy came to your door although expect he had a proper uniform and an id badge.
Mary Ann, I had the same thought about Callie and the gas man and was glad to see that all was on the up and up.
June, remember that a choir needs someone to listen to them and now you can be in that role and that is doing your part.  I did a quick web search on how many feet around two acres and the response is too complicated for me to try to explain, especially since I really don't understand it and it depends on the shape of the two acres. Glad you were able to attend the program and enjoy the Irish songs.
Phyllis, I hope you enjoyed the same type of day we had here yesterday as it was beautiful if not as warm as we have been having.  We didn't have any wind yesterday and none today.
Don, I enjoyed seeing the pictures and it looks like that must have been quite a celebration.  Why the costumes on Shoshan Purim? I really don't know much about Jewish celebrations.
Amy, glad you missed the snow.  Good quilting today and hope you can let Jack the ripper rest if you worked him hard yesterday.
I don't see a new postings from either Gloria de or our other Gloria and sure hope they are in a situation without electricity.
Lloyd, it sounds like you are to have a nice day.
  Larry there is no definitive answer for why they dress up for Purim. The whole celebration is based on deception and disguise. The most notable  example being Queen Esther herself who, although the  queen of Persia concealed the fact that she was a Jew and in so doing by masking her identity, saved her nation from extermination. From this action the tradition of costumes and dressing up evolved.
A good Saturday morning to EVERYFRIEND.
I have been watching the weather and praying for our friends that are having the terrible damaging storms in their area.  I do hope they all are safe and have not had too much damage.
Thank you LARRY and GLORIA, for your nice comments about my shared “5th Set”.  I hoped EVERYFRIEND would enjoy it as much as I did as it is so what many of us are dealing with in our lives right now.
Yesterday was beautiful here, so we had all the doors and windows opened to air our home out.  I guess fresh air was a bit too much for me as I managed to have an issue with being light headed when I got up from my chair, and before I knew it I was on the ground wondering what happened to me.  It happened so fast.....and yet the fall itself was in slow motion from what I could remember.  The only damage done is from a fingernail puncture and a bruise on the top of my hand from Bob trying to hold me as I went down.  I am thankful as my head was an inch from the brick hearth of our fireplace.  Sure glad I missed that.
Last night we spent time with the grands while their parents went to a gala to raise money for Colon / Rectal Cancer Research.  As many of you might remember my daughter-in-love is a cancer survivor.  We sure enjoy our time with them as they are of an age that we can talk and have a wonderful time together.
GLORIA, I am pleased that you want to share the 5th Set.  Thank you for doing so.  I do hope you are doing OK.  I hope to see a post from you today.
LARRY, I did a search on Spotify for Collabro andI have saved a few of their songs on my favorites list.  Thank you for the suggestion.
CALLIE, thank goodness most everything that transpired with the gas leak turned out very well and that you found everyone to be so helpful and caring.  It sure could have been a LOT worse.
Thank you, DON, for sharing the pictures and the explanation of Pirum.  How interesting about Queen Esther and the tradition of why they dress up.  I remember well you and Bubble doing this the last time you were visiting there.
JANE, I do hope the drive to your sisters place was uneventful and that you are enjoying a wonderful visit.
It is another beautiful day so we are going to get out and take advantage of it.
Enjoy your day....
Jenny
Good afternoon, after the wild day yesterday. To day seems calm wind gust only 40mi.
Amy going to be looking for the cranberry muffins.  thanks :)
Callie, glad you got that gas leak straighten up. that was scary
Joy, years ago we made those quilted eggs in Homemakers.  We used a knife to push the fabric in into the egg.
Jenny, so glad you were not hurt when you fell.
Gloria, I like that New School pray you posted the other day. So true
June, enjoy your walks.
What an awesome day out there. Tis cold and windy but nice, bedding blew straight out on the line at times but it is all in and put away now.
I came to check to see if Janie had posted but she must be busy catching up with her sis and family.
Mercy Jenny, you were so lucky..that brick hearth could have done real damage and you are lucky you didn't break any bones. I would imagine you are going to be sore from that fall, take a long hot bath in Epsom salts to see if that helps you.
Gloria de, good to hear from you...did you have any power outages your way?
Larry, you are right about June and we all know she has a song in her heart.
Just have to put borders on the quilt and it will be done!!
Amy, a lot of trees went down, and there is a lot of beach  and dunes lost  along the Atlantic Homes were damage, but I am one who believes they should not be building houses were the dunes use to be. I did not lose power, the new part of the park has the wires underground, the old part, which is over 50 years old still has poles, so they have more problems. We have 580 homes in here, it is called Glenwood Village
At Homemakers we have made crib quilts for aides babies.  If I started a full size quilter, I would be still working on it a year later. My husband Grandmother in Ala. use to quilt all the time, she made my brother in law, on out of Satan. My husband would have been 93 so you can figure how many years ago that quilt was made.  I do not know who has it now.
Hello, Everyfriend,
Thanks to each of you who expressed concern about the gas leak situation.  I never did think it was a scam.  The inspector showed me his inspection sheet, which was from the city and stayed in his company truck parked in front o my house until the ONG rep arrived about 10 minutes after he talked with me.  I was familiar with the company I called to do the repair and the ONG rep who came late never even attempted to step into the house or near the door from the garage when he had to come in there to inspect the hot water heater.
Jenny,  I'm so grateful you didn't hit your head on the hearth.  That kind of dizzy spell needs to be checked out!
Gloria on Long Island,  I had a text exchange with Miss Ellen last night.  She said "there were lots of umbrellas in the streets" of Manhattan.  I thought they might have been from outside seating areas at restaurants but she said they had blown away from people carrying them.  She did make it to work and back home safely but said the high wind gusts were awful.
Today was sunny and warm - and I spent most of the afternoon "leisurely" setting out pansies in all five planters.  I discovered tulips peeking through in two of the back yard planters; had forgotten I'd put them there.
Hope Everyfriend Everywhere has had an Enjoyable Day.
Hello everyone, better late than ever? We did not lose power from that nor'easter but Cox went out. I was watching the evening news and the TV went out. I could only play a few Mah Jong games I have installed on the PC and only outside contact I had was my cell phone. One man here called Cox and was told this whole area was out and they would get businesses running first. I kept pocking up my phone at time but it was still out. I was in bed by 8 last night and wide awake at 3 this morning. Between no TV and no PC boy it was a dull evening and day till now. We had down pouring rain or gully washers as I have heard it called all day and evening. Before I lost cable I heard the weather report and the forecaster said it would turn to snow after 9pm. When it got light out and I pulled up the shades and looked out the tops of cars had a dusting, that was all the snow. We had wind gusts over 80mph. We were lucky no trees down around here but boy those trees were sure moving and swaying. Been having showers on and off all day, no sunshine at all. Had both my sons here this morning. The one here in town brought me some home made baked beans he made yesterday. They are as good as what I made and my Mom did, too, her recipe for them. Only he does it in his crock pot.
LARRY  it is terrible not to be able to say the Pledge and not put God into it. What one atheist did to our country is unforgiving of our politicians.
MARY ANN  we did not get that snow here but some towns did from what what my son told me when he was here today.
JOY  like you I thought of some of the tall pines in the back of this building coming down. The ones on the front side are too far away from my apartment.
CALLIE  you had a good workman there to work on that gas pipe. Seems it is hard to get anyone around here. Try to get a Cox one here and you can wait a day or 2 and then never on time either. Glad that leak was not worse.
JUNE  wish I could have send you and my daughter half the rain we got yesterday.
PHYLLIS  still gray sky here and still windy but not as bad as yesterday and last night.
DON  thanks for the link. Great photos.
AMY  hope there is still one of your muffins left. Anything cranberry I love.
DON  love the explanation of the holiday.
JENNY  we had power but no Cox. Finally came on and first thing I did was get on S&F and the SS.
GLORIA de  it was way worse here than where you live.  Still windy and no sun vur the wind is not like yesterday.
Wow Cox is out again. Will save this for later or tomorrow. At least it was on long enough for a short time here and on Skype.
Three hours later Cox is back. Better get this posted before it is out again. Have a good night.
Good morning everyone..
Looking to be a beautiful day...clear skies ,no snow or rain :)A day of rest here, only have to deliver a quilt later this afternoon.
Gloria, not nice when we lose our internet, we have come to rely on it so much now. Hope the winds have died down now.
Callie, will you get a frost now or is this it for winter for you?
Gloria de, those quilts from the grandmother would be worth something today. People don't realize just how valuable they can be and not just in sentimental value too. I did finish the quilt top and can now move on to another. The top is given to a lady that quilts them on a long arm and then after the binding is sewn on given out to cancer patients.
We are missing June????
We are also missing Lloyd??
Larry ,your dinner sounds delicious. Pat is happy with her Instant pot?
Jane, have a safe trip back home if you are leaving today..
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good Sunday morning, Amy and all who follow.
I am not quite as early as you, Amy,  but I am up a little earlier than usual.  I am finding that if I wake up really early , if I get up, I am not nearly as groggy as when I decide to go back to sleep.  I can always take  a nap later.
I am out of bread, so I decided I would make some biscuits before I fixed breakfast.  I have not made biscuits from scratch for a very long time. I did not have enough Bisquick, so I made them from scratch.  They didn't rise as good as my baking powder was old.  Need to put that on my shopping list.  Since I don't use it much, I just forget about it.  The biscuits taste good, just not as high as they should have been.  But, they will do in a pinch.
My DIL usually goes to the store for me, and she has been sick.  She is better now and went back to work, so I am hoping she will be going to the store sometime today. I will just get her to get me a few things now, and then later in the week, I will make up a list for Walmart.
Larry,  yes, I do have a bathroom with no windows,  but only a shower stall.   No bathtub that I could hide down in.  LOL.  But, that was another option I had thought of,  Thankfully, the wind has died down considerably and we did not have any power outages in my area.  My son, who lives several miles north of me didn't have any power when he came home on Friday and I didn't talk to him yesterday, so I am hoping all is well by now.
There was a lot of damage and many, many power outages all around Maryland.  Lots of trees and wires down.  One 75 year old lady was killed when she was going out for her mail.  Not sure just where that was.  But, several cars had trees falling on them. I think I heard that several out of state power companies were on the way here to help.  They are still saying that there are still thousands of people without power.
The sun is shining brightly and the sky is really blue this morning.  But, just going up to around  50º .   This time next week, we will all be on Daylight Savings TIme.  I love it when it stays light long into the evening.  Now, just waiting for some of those warmer temperatures.
Amy, I have been working on some of the quilted ornaments.  I can see where this hobby can become addictive.  I worked on one yesterday and then had to take it all apart as it just didn't suit me.  I am my own worse critic.  LOL
I am sure Jane had a great week end with her sister and family.  Hopefully, the weather was good for them.  Have a safe trip back home, Jane.
I hope everyone will enjoy this Sunday. I am off to make a cup of tea and enjoy a couple biscuits and some fruit.
Joy
 Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful day.  It is suppose to be down to 34 at 8 am but then be up into the 60's again this afternoon and sunny all day long.  I am ready to go to Church this morning.  I have done the morning chores except to fix Pat's breakfast and decided to sit down an rest a few minutes and eat my breakfast and then will go and fix hers.  She said she wasn't in any rush and I have everything set out so it will be quick and easy this morning.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.  I have nothing to talk about that I did yesterday as stayed home.
Don, that explanation of Purim answered my question very well.  Thanks.
Jenny, you all have such yo-yo weather.  We can't open any windows now as the pine pollen is covering things with that yellow dust.  I had a dusting on the car and on the top of my garbage can but don't yet see any on the streets.  Sorry to hear of you fainting and your fall.  Did you stand up and try to move immediately.  Years ago a good friend in his late 70's or early 80's had gotten up from bed and passed out.  His doctor told him to stand and wait a few seconds to let the blood fully circulate before starting to walk.  I sure hope you don't have this problem again as don't want any broken bones as that would surely interfere with your busy schedule.  Glad you enjoyed the Collabro singers.  I enjoy the Irish Tenors and these types of groups that sing the types of songs I like, ones with tunes and words you can understand.
deAngel, nice to see your weather has calmed down and that you didn't get any damage at your place.  I agree with you in that it really doesn't seem wise to build your house on sand dunes and then be surprised when they are flooded or washed away.  Glad you didn't lose power.  I was worried about you, Gloria, Jane and Sandy but it looks like you all kept your power.
Amy, I remember growing up on the farm and we had outside clothes lines and sometimes during winter the clothes would freeze dry and the sheet and other clothes would be frozen when we took them down.  We often had wind in Missouri so have seen clothes blow straight out.
Callie, I see why you weren't concerned about the people helping with the gas leak problem.  I guess that strong wind in New York will be good for the sale of umbrellas. Glad Miss Ellen was able to make it to work and back home safely in the storm.
Gloria, good to see you didn't lose power and that the Cox service wasn't off too long.  It sounds like there was really bad weather in your area.
Amy, enjoy your day of rest as you deserve it.  Have you kept track of how many of the special quilts you have made so far?  I think Pat is happy with the Instant Pot but really still learning how to use it.  We have only had a few meals prepared in it but they have been good.
Joy, I much prefer biscuit that are basically two crusts and my Dad liked them the same way.   Glad your DIL was able to return to work and will be able to help you with your groceries.  Sure glad you didn't need to seek shelter.  I heard from my good friend in Gaithersburg, Maryland yesterday and he hadn't lost power or had any damage from the wind.  I am wondering about Jane as she had said she would be checking in with her iPad from her sister's.  The extra hours of daylight are nice but I really don't like getting up in the dark.  Guess I will just have to stay in bed later in the morning for awhile.  :)
Good morning everyone, still gray sky and windy 35°. I am tired of waking as early as 3am lately so this morning when that happened I laid on the couch and slept another  4 hours.Just watching local news and there was a lot of damage from downed trees and wires.  Trees falling onto houses and in driveways crushing cars. At the shore they have roads closed off because waves are crashing over the storm walls and onto the roads. The usual places are flooded and soon we will be hearing from those who built there wanting the government to buy them out. As bad as those who build at the ocean front and then get washed out in a hurricane and are stupid enough to rebuild in the same place after.
AMY  we have snow in the forecast for tonight and again a winter storm on Wednesday, but then we know these weather guessers are seldom right. Now we get winter weather after hardly any all winter.
JOY  I lay on the couch in the afternoons but never sleep, wish I could. I used to wish they had small cans of baking powder since I no longer use much of it either. I did find a small can in the market and was glad to know they finally have them. I dislike throwing so much of it away. Like you there are no windows in bathrooms here either, no heat in there either. If I had another outlet in there I would buy a heater. Only outlet is over the sink.
LARRY  Cox was out  much too long for those in this building. For me it was the internet and the TV for most here just  the TV. Not many have computers. My daughter is happy now living in Arizona, they do not change the time. I would like that, too. There has been talk here that if the neighboring state agree to do so we would stay one time all year.
LLOYD  I would have no place here for a bread machine but wish I could make my own like I used to.
A Speech Every American High School Principal Should Give.... By Dennis
Prager.
To the students and faculty of our high school:
I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling
than to teach young people.
I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school.
I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that
have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against
your teachers and against our country.
First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care
less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could
not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or
European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave
ships. The only identity I care about, the only one this school will
recognize, is your individual identity -- your character, your scholarship,
your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is
American.
This is an American public school, and American public schools were created
to make better Americans. If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or
religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will
end all ethnicity, race and non-American nationality-based celebrations.
They undermine the motto of America , one of its three central values -- e
pluribus Unum, "from many, one." And this school will be guided by America
's values. This includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs
that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language,
religion, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in a
society divided by political correctness.
Your clubs will be based on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic,
racial or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate
narcissism -- an unhealthy preoccupation with the self -- while the purpose
of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have clubs
that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy,
languages you do not already speak, carpentry and more. If the only
extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those
based on ethnic, racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside
of yourself really interests you.
Second, I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My
only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking
and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united
America 's citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school.
It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of immigrants has always
come to be one country. And if you leave this school without excellent
English language skills, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you
will be prepared to successfully compete in the American job market. We will
learn other languages here - it is deplorable that most Americans speak only
English - but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than
in English, this is not your school.
Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this
school will reflect learning's elevated status. This means, among other
things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in
our society dress more formally for Hollywood events than for church or
school. These people have their priorities backward. Therefore, there will
be a formal dress code at this school.
Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school's
property -- whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you
can't speak without using the f-word, you can't speak. By obscene language I
mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission, plus
epithets such as "Nigger," even when used by one black student to address
another black, or "bitch," even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It
is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the
few your age to instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the
degraded, the holy and the obscene.
Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem
will be attained in only one way -- the way people attained it until decided
otherwise a generation ago -- by earning it. One immediate consequence is
that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.
Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from
politics and propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about
smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global
warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and teaching
you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue. There
will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you
are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual or not Christian. We will
have failed if any one of you graduates this school and does not consider
him or herself inordinately lucky -- to be alive and to be an American.
Now, please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of our
country. As many of you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them
out to you.
Good morning.
It is a bright and beautiful morning here in the Mile High City of Denver.  We have high wind warnings and that is always a concern for grass fires as it is so dry.  It will not be as warm today as the past couple of days, so no window opening and airing the place out for us today.
GLORIA, I so wish we could have all of our schools run like the one you have shared with us this morning!  We would not have the hate that seems to have taken over our country like it seems it has.  It would not be that hard to follow these thoughts IF only we all would try!
AMY, I have been looking at the site that you shared.  I did enjoy the Texas Hill Country and it brought back so many fine memories of our time of being there. I still have a hard time grasping that Hal is gone.  Thank you for the memories and for the continued ones as I plane to visit this sight often and enjoy the beauty of what this person has made for many to enjoy.
LARRY, the pine pollen is one part of spring that I do not look forward to.  We have many pine trees around our home and it is truly a mess.
Yes, is the answer to your question about my fall.  Bob had taken my iPad from me to go plug it in, so he had it in one hand, and used his other hand to give me a pull up.  I told him I felt dizzy and I was attempting to sit back down in my chair, but before I knew it I was on the ground.  Unfortunately because he had the iPad in one hand he only had ahold of one of my hands....but I do believe it would have been much worse without his holding on to me.  Hence the reason I have a big bruise on that hand.  Looking back, there were several other ways it could have gone....some better and some much worse.  Falls are something we all have to be so careful of.  Thank you for your concern and good insight to making sure to not be moving to9 quickly when we stand up.  I, too, love listening to the Irish Tenors.
JOY, I wish I could have had one of your home made biscuits this morning with you.  They sure sounded good.  So many of you in our group do things that I USED to do, and it sure does make me feel lazy!
CALLIE, I will definitely seek help if I have anymore of these dizzy spells.  Thank you for your concern.  I was so lucky to not have something further happen.  Of course, I have the soreness that comes after a fall, but I could have had a big ol hole in my head! 😱
I thought of table umbrellas as well, and had to laugh to myself do the thought of it being the umbrellas that people were carrying❣️
I love reading about all the quilts and quilting that many of you do, without mentioning each name....my only retreat is that we can not see the fine work that you do.  I have many quilts and knitted blankets that have been handed down to me and I cherish each and every one of them, knowing the hours of hard work and love that go into making them.  Sadly, I am not sure anyone beyond me will cherish them like I do and I wonder what will happen to them?  It makes me sad.
I hope you all enjoy your Sunday......I am thinking about Our June and hoping she shows up soon.  Also, keeping good thoughts for Jane, that she and her niece make it home safe after the weekend visit to her sisters.  She did say she would. check in.....maybe she was just having too much fun to be thinking about us.
Good Morning,
Well, I "paid the penalty" for planting 18 pansy plants - even if they were in planters and not in the ground.
I could barely move when I got up this morning and, when I did,  it HURT!
Can't take aspirin on an empty stomach and have to wait an hour after first morning pill for breakfast - so it was too late to get to church by the time all of that clicked in.  Bleah!
Amy,  we could have another freeze or two but not the ice, etc.   Oklahoma has quite a few "regions".  Here's a link https://www.travelok.com/article_page/oklahomasdiverseecoregions (https://www.travelok.com/article_page/oklahomasdiverseecoregions)
The general Oklahoma City area, where I live, is known as The Crosstimbers because it's more or less the dividing line between the High Plains of western Oklahoma and the heavily timbered eastern Oklahoma. (Think Interstate 35 as a dividing line).
Jenny,  seems we have to "think" about so many more movements, etc. as we "age".   >:(
Re: quilting:    I'm reading some novels by Jennifer Chiaverini called "The Elm Creek Quilt series".  The main characters are quilters who get together at a "quilt camp" once a year.  The plots always center around quilt patterns but the author works them into historical events.
Just finished "The Runaway Quilt" that's about a quilt pattern used to signal the location of "safe houses" for slaves escaping to Canada.
I didn't realize there are so many named patterns.    There are diagrams of all the ones mentioned in the stories.
OMT about the gas leak situation:    The plumber and the ONG rep both knew about the Safety Inspection company.  Apparently,  they check neighborhoods at random - basically for leaks in the ONG pipes leading from the meter  - but also checking the pipes coming directly out of the house to the one coming from the meter, which are the homeowner's responsibility.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
Good afternoon, cloudy, some roads are still closed near the ocean. Still, a few power outages,  Last night people had to be evacuated from the South shore, as the tides came way up into their streets.  Maybe snow later to day, and other  Nor'easter by Wed.
Joy, my MIL from Ala. started making biscuits when she was 5, and still was making them once a day when sh was 90. she had a wooden bowl she use, and I think it was almost as old as she was. Over 600 trees blew down or was damage in Queens, and a lot of erosion out here, ocean still coming over the homes and dunes on the beach.
Larry, I remember hanging out cloths.  We lived in and apartment and I had to hang out the window and use a pulley  cloth line. I had to wash every day, as Dennis was a baby and in those days you had to wash the diapers every day.  I would hang them out and bring them in like cardboard they were frozen stiff.
gloria, I wish we had more principles to day, like that one you posted.
Loved those scenes of Texas, a field of Blue bonnets must be beautiful
Jane hope we hear from you soon.
A strange Sunday. I was all ready for Chapel, right down to the last sprits of cologne, ready to walk out the door, but God said NO. I felt a little buzzing in my head, so I lay down on my bed before I fell down. Who knows why or how these things happen, but it is best to heed the warning. After a while I changed to "loafing" clothing, and was just falling asleep, when my son and daughter in love walked through the door. They had finished up at their Church and stopped for lunch then popped in to see Mom, and showed me wonderful pictures of their trip to Hawaii. What heavenly scenery !!
I did accomplish one thing today. I spent almost two hours ordering my months supply of foodstuffs to be delivered tomorrow. And glad I am to have that done. Still want to place another order with Amazon, but that can wait for another day.
I pray for all those that are having wicked weather, and Jenny, don't treat that fall lightly. It may be a warning signal for future problems.
Lloyd, you have been pretty quiet lately. I hope all is well with that breathing machine you need for restful sleep. And I miss your friend Peter too...he was doing well for a few days, so I hope all is well in his corner of our world.
To all of you...keep well and safe. We need one another. Hugs and Prayers, June.
Good morning everyone..
Hubby has two appointments today both right here in town. I saw a few flakes of snow falling ,hope they don't get the idea of mobbing us!
Joy, I can imagine once started it would be like trying to eat just one potato chip! Are you going the ball or pine cone one?
Larry, I have brought the clothes in off the line in winter and you could stand the jeans up and then watch them slowly collapse as the frost came out of them.
June , that was a wise choice and it was so nice of your family to stop in and tell and you of their vacation. Hope you feel a lot better today.
Gloria de wouldn't it be nice to walk through a field of blue bonnets? I can't help but think of what might lay hidden in them though as I know there are rattlers there.Glad you didn't lose power.
Callie, thank you for the link, that was very interesting.
Jenny hope your aches and pains today are small. After a fall like that we have so many places that hurt!
Gloria, thank you for the read.  So sad that "some" don't want to include God yet when their time comes God will include them.
Hope Jane is home safe and sound and ready to share her weekend with us :)
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning everyone, 31° and snowing and windy still. So far only grassy areas cars and roofs are covered.  More snow forecast for Wednesday but only 6 inches then. Shouldn't say "only" because I am elderly and remember when getting snow that was always more that 12 inches.
AMY  what a wonderful link to start my day. Beautiful pictures and nice music. Thank you. Makes one think of Hal and his stories of camping and fishing.
JENNY  would love to open windows for even a few minutes but that will not happen till it reaches 60° so the heating pipes will not freeze. The witch can run the AC in her office but we do not have them up here yet. Hers is in the wall under her window. I agree, schools run like in that story are a dream these days. I do not remember so much stress about color and race when I was in school and we had all colors and races and all got along together.
CALLIE  oh what you do to enjoy planting flowers to enjoy. Been a long time since I had a place to plant flowers in a yard. Hope those muscles aren't as sore today. I will read more about y our state after I post. Sounds interesting. Arizona is the only western state I have been through and that fascinated me with the variety there. In this state you have this area and the ocean front, no mountains but lot of trees and too many buildings. The highest point in this state is 812 feet high and on private land.
GLORIA de  there is still areas here with no power. Most of the state is covered by National Grid but this town has it's own power and seem to get power back much faster. Those working for the power  company live here and want their power. Glad I have no appointments this week with these storms. I think these days principals are afraid to speak out like the one in that story.
JUNE  you were smart to listen to your body and stay home. Glad that Gary and Dori visited you with pictures of Hawaii. When I was young I wanted to visit there. Take care of YOU.
LLOYD  as long as you come in here every day and just say hello we know you are OK.
AMY  I remember those winter days of hanging clothes out and then prying the ends off the line where the clothes pins held them. The joys of dryers now but that fresh air smell is missing. Like you I will be glad to see a post from Jane.
Do You Feel There Is No Hope?
(By Christine Chipman)
In your times of deep despair,
Do you feel there is no hope?
As the darkness closes in on you,
Do you feel you cannot cope?
As you struggle on through every trial,
Do you say "When will it end"?
As you cry yourself to sleep at night,
Do you wish you had a friend?
When your body's racked with aches and pains,
Do you feel you are alone?
When you think about the future,
Do you fear the great unknown?
There is someone who really cares,
And He hears your every cry.
His arms are reaching out to you,
And on Him you can rely.
When things close in around you,
He sees your fear and doubt -
He wants to hold you in His arms,
And He will never cast you out.
As you stumble through the darkness,
He will be your guiding light.
He wants to wipe away your tears,
For you are precious in His sight.
Reach out right now to Jesus,
And let Him take complete control -
He'll take that heavy burden,
And He'll touch and make you whole.
He's reaching out His arms to you,
And He wants to be your friend.
Let Him take you in His loving arms,
For His love will never end.
im not home yet. I'm waiting for Bridget to pick me up. She has to be back to college by 10:30. Had a great visit. Even got to see my nephew when he showed up unexpectedly.
My sis and I got a lot done that she hasn't been able to do because she can't see to drive. And we talked about anything and everything.
AMY, I have walked through a field of blue bonnets. My daughter lives in Texas and I went down one spring and we did the bluebonnet trail. We got out lots of places and took lots of pictures and we had a lovely two days together.
My grandniece just texted that she's on the way so I have to pack this up and be ready when she gets here. Have a good day.
 Hi Everyone.  It is a another beautiful day here although it is quite chilly this morning, down to around 34 but again will get to the mid-60's.  I have a light day planned for today.  This morning I will drop off a return package at Fed EX on my way to Aldi's to pick up a few items.  From there I will go to Walmart to pick up Pat's big grocery order and come home and unload it and help put it away.  That will probably be it.  I think we plan on just having a salad supper this evening with chicken for Pat and tuna for me.
Yesterday morning when I plugged in the old toaster oven it made a sizzling noise and then started to burn around the plug with fire shooting out.  Fortunately I was still standing there so could grab the cord and unplug it.  It went immediately into the trash can. I bet we have been using it for 25 to 30 years.  So now Pat gets to pick out a new one. We are also going to have to return the new phone that Pat got as the conversations are garbled and the battery doesn't want to stay charged.  I ordered her a new and better phone last evening.  There really aren't too many choices available in an old fashioned basic flip phone.
I did enjoy watching the golf from Mexico City yesterday and it was a pretty exciting finish.  The old guy beat all of the younger ones as Phil Mickelson won the $1.7 million dollar prize.  Of course the runner up also made over $1 million dollars.
Lloyd, we have a bread machine but haven't used it for many years.  The bread always smelled so good while it was cooking and tasted so good when it was ready to eat.
Gloria, I also wish we didn't switch the time twice a year.  I doubt that a High School Principal would have a job in a public school these days were he to implement such a program as the speech shows although it would be a great thing.  Perhaps that could be done in a private school. Unfortunately we have been encouraged to have class warfare.  I try to treat all people the same until they give me a reason not to do so but even then a smile is always non-aggressive.
Amy, those pictures in the link you shared are beautiful.  I sent myself an email so I can download them on my laptop as they will make beautiful and somewhat challenging jigsaw puzzles with my Brainsbreaker Jigsaw puzzle program.
Jenny, I agree that losing Hal was a great loss to our Soda Shoppe family.  I noticed more pine pollen on my
car when I got into it after Church yesterday.  I am always glad when the season is over.  I am sure glad Bob was able to help break your fall and the bruise will heal and much better than damage to your head.  I keep after Pat to write to her doctor asking for a prescription for a Rollator she could use when we leave the house.  She walks very little without the walker here in the house. Like you I sure hope we hear from Jane today.  I fear she may be where there is no power.
Callie, hope the aches are much better today. I sent Pat a quick email with the author and series of books you mentioned.  I expect she is aware of her as know she has listened to books about quilting groups. A number of years ago we went to one of those quilting groups up in the North Georgia mountains for a three day retreat.
deAngel, did you watch the golf yesterday.  That one shot on the 18th by the man who ended up coming in second in the playoff was really something and he was as surprised as the spectators.  Sure hope the snow didn't arrive in your area yesterday.  Now that you and Amy mention it I also remember that the jeans would stand up when taken down from the clothes line until they warmed up.  I also remember the old diaper pails and having to wash diapers a lot as we had two in diapers at the same time for awhile as our two children were 15 months apart.
June, glad you avoided another fall yesterday and were close to your bed.  Hope that "bee" in your head stays away from you.
Gloria, thanks for that Christine Chipman piece.
Jane, so good to see your post this morning and it sounds like you and your sister faired well over the weekend with the storms.
Merry Monday, Everyfriend,
Larry,  please tell Pat that "The Quilter's Apprentice" is the first book in the Elm Creek Quilt series.  It sets the scene, so to speak, for the rest of the books.   There are currently 20 books in the series.  I can get most of them in e-book form from my library.
Gloria,  the highest point in Oklahoma is 5,239 feet on the Black Mesa in the Panhandle;  the lowest point is 284 feet in the southeastern part of the state.   It's 503 miles between them via turnpikes/interstates.
"Squeaks and creaks" are better today.   No rain fell at my house yesterday so I will need to water the "pot garden".  I don't think that will be as hard as putting in the plants, though.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
I'm home safe and sound.  Everything is put away and the dogs are dozing in their usual spots.  I must say that Bridget is  and excellent driver and did not give me even one anxious moment.  However, she talks a blue streak and I'm afraid my ears fell off on the way home!  I love listening to her.  I hear family things and school things and get all caught up.  She's such a sweetheart and so smart!
I think I'm going to take a shower and put on some comfortable clothes and take a nap this afternoon.  Now THAT sounds like a plan!  I hope you are all having nice weather and enjoying your day!
Good afternoon, it is now cloudy and quite cold and very windy. The shore line is still having trouble with extra high tides.  Big storm again for Wed. and another to follow on Sunday.
Amy when we lived in a house in Ronknonkoma. My husband 2nd job in the lighting Co. was resident Sub Station Operator, the sub station was in the yard, about 10 ft. from the porch. Well that house had and open floor furnace. I had a portable wooden dryer which I put put over the opening and finishing drying the frozen cloths. On a real cold day, even I would stand on the grate. One word brings up such memories.
Gloria, Linda (DIL) was out of power 2 days on the Cape. She had only the fireplace. As I wrote above my husband worked for the Lighting Co. nearly 40 years.  Started out as grass cutter, the week Dennis was born, making 95cents and hr. Worked up to Sub Station Insp. for . all of Eastern Long Island. After we moved here, we had a couple of hurricanes, and we would get power after a few hours, even before the rest of the park, and all the neighbor would say: Cy's lives here that why.He would say it because two sub station were about a quarter   of a mile from here the line went by our road on the way to connect to the hospital. I guess thats more then you wanted to know.
Janegood to see you safe home.
Larry and MaryAnn, that was good golf yesterday.  glad to see Phil win. I felt bad for the fellow from India, he had done so well the first two days. He had been listed as 465 on the list of golfers.
Happy Friendship week
     I've learned
     that no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone need a friend to act goofy with
     I've learned
     that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand
     I've learned
     That walks with my father around the block on summer night when I was a child did wonders fr me as an adult.
     I learned
     That  life is like a roll of toilet paper
      The closer it get to the end, the faster it goes
     I've learned
     That money doesn't buy class
There is more, but I will finish to morrow
Gloria d, the young man from India (Sharma) is only 21 and I know we'll hear more of him in the future.  He led for quite a while.  His father was in the crowd.
I think the things you've learned was written by Andy Rooney, if not, he wrote something similar.  Very wise words.
We've enjoyed such nice weather the past few days, but radar looks as if we'll be getting snow for a couple of days starting tomorrow.
A good evening.....this day has passed so quickly!  They all seem to do that anymore!
GLORIA de, I like the Andy Rooney quotes as well.
GLORIA, Sharma  is quite the golfer....I think he will be around a lot in the future.  I was elated the my boy, “Lefty” pulled it out.  I have pulled for him since his college days at AZ State.
Welcome home, JANE. happy to read that you had a nice visit as well as safe travel both ways.
WOW LARRY, the fireworks show from your toaster sounded frightening!  The nerve of the old thing to go out of service with such a show!  Glad nothing was hurt....nice that you were standing there and could get to the plug fast.
AMY, I remember those frozen jeans standing up on their own as well....I still love the smell and softness of lined dried clothing.
Regarding daylight savings time....I do not know of one person that says they like it!  There are statistics tha5 prove there are a; increase of accidents at both times of the year that we change!  I do not care which way they leave it....but I sure wish the6 would leave it alone and let us deal with it!
JUNE, I am happy that you had a surprise visit from your son and
diðŸ'—.  I know you enjoyed looking at th pictures and hearing about their Hawaii trip.  Hope you had a better day today and are feeling stronger.
I put a chuck roast in the crock pot and it sure is smelling good.  My plan was to try it in the  pressure cooker,  but I love the way it turns out in the crock pot....so that is how I did it.
I wish you all a good night....
Hello everyone.
It's still very humid here. First summer people keep saying they wish Autumn would actually arrive. The South Island is a lot cooler than here. They have even had light snow on the Mountains. Up here in the North of the North Island it's more like summer.
Nicky ( my eldest daughter) has taken a months leave from work. She has a rare medical condition poor girl and she's been under the weather. She's on some new meds and hoping it will help. We are going to take the dogs to the beach for a morning next week. Take a flask of coffee and sit under a Pohutukawa tree and just look at the waves. So lucky to still have our unspoiled West Coast beaches with lawn and lots of Shady trees right down by the sand. The rainforest is just across the road from all the beaches. Being an island the beaches are so close. Where I live I can reach beaches on both the East and West Coasts within 20 mins. The harbour is only a few minutes away but there is no decent swimming on the nearest side of the Harbour.
Jenny I'm glad you didn't get serious injuries from your fall.
June Like Jenny I'm anxious for you to check in.
Lloyd my trusty electric coffee grinder blew up a couple of weeks ago. I haven't yet bought another. Just been buying freshly ground coffee from the coffee roasters on the corner. It gave me a fright too as it went off with a blue flame and a Big Bang.
I'm sitting here procrastinating about getting in the shower. I like to get into jamas about 9. I never go to bed until about 12 as I find I sleep better then. Generally wake just before 7am. Go to bed too early and I'm awake at 3am.
There is another Cyclone forming down here in the South Pacific. Weather service is watching and waiting. Hopefully it won't follow the path of the recent Gita. Tonga and Samoa got a real hammering. We got damage further down the island and on the West Coast of the South Island.
Take care everyone.
Carolyn
Good morning everyone..
A blanket of clouds covering the sky with a temp of 20° F this morning calling for a chance of flurries. We are off to the city for hubby's cardio appointment today.
Larry, glad you were right there when your toaster went kaflooey...scares one to think what might of happened if you weren't!
Gloria de ,that was some furnace ,great to have when drying  laundry and standing over to get warm. Did it have an ornate grate on it or just a basic one? I too, loved the quotes.
Jane, bet the pups were glad to get home and in their own beds. David is now fostering a Great Dane .he is black as coal and they have named him Cole. He is also bigger than their dane. Bet this fostering bit will turn into another dog for them!!
June, as you said it will work out. Not worth losing good sleep for either.
Lloyd, hope you managed to get more sleep. Can you take that mask back and get a better fitting one?
I had better get moving...where is Shirley ,Joy and Sandy???
Enjoy your day everyone.
Morning Jane  :)
Got this in my mail and suited the topic we were talking on yesterday.
Remembering Mom's Clothesline
There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.  I can hear my mother now.
THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:
(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)
1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.
2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.
3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes -
walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.
5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail!
What would the neighbors think?
6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend,
or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!
7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y'know!)
8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... clothes would "freeze-dry."
9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pegs when taking down dry clothes!
pegs left on the lines were "tacky"!
10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item
did not need two clothes pegs, but shared one of the clothes pegs with the next washed item.
11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.
12. IRONED? Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!
  And now a POEM...
A clothesline was a news forecast,
To neighbors passing by,
There were no secrets you could keep,
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link,
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped by
to spend a night or two.
For then you'd see the "fancy sheets",
And towels upon the line;
You'd see the "company table cloths",
With intricate designs.
The line announced a baby's birth,
From folks who lived inside,
As brand new infant clothes were hung,
So carefully with pride!
The ages of the children could,
So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
You'd know how much they'd grown!
It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a dressing gown too,
Haphazardly were strung.
It also said, "On holiday now",
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged,
With not an inch to spare!
New folks in town were scorned upon,
If wash was dingy and grey,
As neighbors carefully raised their brows,
And looked the other way.
But clotheslines now are of the past,
for dryers make work much less.
Now what goes on inside a home,
is anybody's guess!
I really miss that way of life,
it was a friendly sign
when neighbors knew each other best...
by what hung on the line!
My mom had one of those long poles, too, Amy.  It was used mostly on the line that held the sheets so they wouldn't drag on the ground.  I used to run and hide among the freshly washed sheets (until she would tell me to stop!).  I loved the smell!
Glad you are home, Jane, and so good to hear that you enjoyed your weekend so much.
Gloria de, my dad had a floor furnace installed when I was somewhere in my teens.  Standing on the furnace and letting that warm air blow up under your skirt was wonderful!
Cloudy here this morning and in the 30's.  Rain expected but we won't get the snow that I'm afraid will be hitting you all up in the northeast again.   Old Man Winter just doesn't want to let go!  Stay safe.....and warm!
outside cloth lines and a little out house out in the back yard. as a child we in town a two holier when we moved to the farm it only had one, that was ok as
you could run around the barn and take care of business. and Like AMY we have clothes washers and dryers in the house,also have two dish washers I bought one and married one. HA HA HA . oh yes when we moved to the farm the close
line and privy were both out of sight from the road, no worries about busy bodies. have a great day.
 Hi Everyone.  It is raining this morning but 53 degrees and will stay in the high 50's through out the day.  It is suppose to continue all day long.  I have a busy morning as have a dental appointment for teeth cleaning at 10 am so will leave around 9:30 as it takes about 20 minutes to get there.  Then as I come back home I will come but up by Costco and stop and do some shopping for some things we need.  I am hopeful I can get an electric cart as walking the aisles there today won't be fun and I will really have to go slow.  That will be it for today.  Yesterday I did get the shopping done at Aldi's and then picked up our on line grocery order at Walmart but when I got home Pat realized the luncheon meat we had ordered and been charged for wasn't there.  I called and they checked and found they had left it in the cooler.  I didn't feel up to making another trip and told them it would be later in the day before I could make another trip there and pick it up.  However, Pat decided she could drive down and get it, which she did and which I appreciated as had pretty much used up my day's supply of energy.
Callie, Pat told me that she knew of the author and had read most, if not all of the quilter series books by her.  She may have gotten some of them from the library and probably listened to most of them as audio books form the library.  Do you have one of those expandable and very light weight garden hoses?  They are great.
Jane, glad you are safely home and hope you were able to put your ears back on.  :)  Glad you had such a nice time.
Amy, the pictures in the link yesterday are even better for the puzzles as won't be quite as hard with the various colors as some of the ones from Texas where the patterns are repeated over and over with the flowers.  I did capture those yesterday on my laptop to use as future puzzles as I will these. I found that site and will set a bookmark so I can refer to it when I need puzzle pictures.  Thanks for putting me on to the site.
deAngel,  while many of our memories of past time and events are fun to recall I sure wouldn't want to go back  to that way of living other than maybe a quieter pace.  You never provide too much information as always enjoy yours and others postings.  It brings back my own memories when you recall past events and situations.  I bet the young man from India moved up on the ranking of golfers.  I read an interesting story about him and how he would stay up into the early hours of the morning in India to watch the golf tournaments and dream of becoming a good golfer.  I look forward to your finishing the "I've Learned" piece tomorrow.
Mary Ann, hope you don't get goo much snow and that you will be able to stay inside until it is cleared away.
Jenny, a couple of weeks ago they said that Mickleson was playing for the 28th or 29th time in that particular tournament.  He has had an outstanding career.  I was able to pull the plug before too much of a show and no fire damage other than to the cord of the toaster oven.
Lloyd, sorry to read that you continue to have problems with your CPAP machine.  I see you were able to get more sleep last night. My machine reports to the company that makes the machine and the lung doctor can access the information when I see her. I can also go on line and see the daily results but seldom do that as the little screen will show me a smiley or frowny face when I turn it off and I get very few frowny faces.
Carolyn, so sorry that your daughter suffers from a rare condition and sure hope the new meds will be of help to her.  Going to your beaches sound like it would be a lot of fun.  Is the sand firm or the sugar type that your feet sink into?  There must be an lot of appliances going bad all at once.  You are the third instance that I know of in the last few days.  There was a pop with mine and some fire but it stopped when I unplugged it. The sparks were back of the actual plug in so am pretty sure it has nothing to be with the wiring for that outlet but just an old appliance.
Amy, my mother followed those clothes line rules to the tee except for number 7.  Since we lived in the country and the clothes lines couldn't be seen from the road as they were behind the house I don't remember concern about where the underclothes were hung.  She never left the clothes pins on the line and we did have a pole for propping up sagging lines.  As I recall we had three or four fairly long lines as all the washing was done on the same day.  Now my wife does loads of wash often several different days of the week.
Phyllis, I can still remember the smell of clothes dried outside and you sure don't get that smell form the dryer.  Maybe our rain is headed up your way.  We are getting just a nice gentle soaking rain.
Good morning everyone, looks like it will be a nice day, 31° and sun is shining. Of course, the calm before the nor'easter for tomorrow. This time the forecasters are saying heavy wet snow. More trees and wires down and not all the power is restored around the state yet. Companies from other states and even Canada are here working on restoring lines. Some might stay here to see if they are needed for the one on the way. Maybe I'll send my CNA to the store today for that milk and bread? In Providence they have installed new traffic cameras and yesterday they had a record number of people in traffic court questioning the tickets-cost of $95.-. Judge threw a lot of the tickets out, could not read what was on so threw them out, others the plate numbers were so blurred he could not make them out. Some were clocked at 1 mile over the speed limit. That is really a mess.
JANE  good seeing your post from yesterday. Glad you were able to help your sister with things she can no longer do. Do not remember where I saw a picture of a little girl sitting in a field of bluebonnets and the grandmother who showed the picture said after that was taken and the child was out of them she realized there could have been or was a rattler not far from her.
LARRY  new toasters are not as good as the ones the age of the one you threw away. I had one about 30 years, a GE, and since that stopped working I have had 4 or 5 new ones. I have a simple flip phone from Tracfone. I have 2 smart phones sitting in the boxes they came in, one an android and the other an iPhone, just could not get the hang of them. That principal is someone we all wish was real.
CALLIE  from the talk at times we might have a higher point than the one I mentioned , that would be the state dump site.
JANE  someone who talks a lot at least keeps both of you awake.
AMY  wow what beautiful pictures and love the song, too. Thank you.
GLORIA de  I still think this town is lucky to have it's own power station. All the workers live in town so want their power back and work pretty fast. Your Friendship week is so true. Thanks.
MARY ANN  I loved listening to Andy Rooney. He made a lot of sense.
JENNY  at one time a chuck roast was the cheapest and suddenly people discovered it had a great taste and now it is up in price. Always my favorite cut.
JUNE  you know how we are here, we love and care for each other and worry when we do not hear from someone.
LLOYD  hope you can get that breathing machine fixed so it will work the way it is supposed to.
CAROLYN  I always loved being by the ocean and watching the waves, especially after a storm when the really rolled onto the ledges or sand. Something very soothing about them. Hope the cyclone misses you.
JANE  have a good day at work.
AMY  I have read that poem about clotheslines a few times and I always love it. brings back a life time of memories. Thanks.
PHYLLIS  I was knocked out by a clothes pole once. I was hanging clothes and the pole slipped and hit my elbow and knocked me out. I woke with my 3 around me and I was laying on the ground. Weird.
LARRY  you are like me. every time I come across beautiful scenes I save them and add to Brainsreakers.
Be thankful
Author unknown
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
  If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
  for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
  During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
  because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
  because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
  They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
  because it means you've made a difference.
It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
  A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
  Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.
I will just say good morning to all the early morning friends.  Just wanted to let Amy know that I am up and about.  LOL    I had a long message written and "Pooff" it disappeared.  Just do not know what I do to make that happen.
It is sunny right now, and cold.  They are calling for snow to start later today and go into THursday.  I am not looking forward to more snow.   I am so waiting for SPRING !!!
I loved the article about hanging the laundry out.  I can relate to all those things.  I can still picture my mother walking up and down the yard hanging the clothes and then checking on them to see which ones were dry to take in and put more up.  We had a long yard, and she would string the clothesline all the way down the whole yard. And, we also had the wooden poles to prop the lines up.  And, when I married and had my own place, I pretty much follower the same way she did the laundry.  I do remember it took her a very long time to decide to get a dryer.  I think she still had the wringer washer  at that time also.   She would take the lines down each time she did the laundry.  Never left them up from week to week, although I do remember some neighbors would.    Those were some of the good old days.  Most places now do not allow clothes lines.  Supposed to look "tacky".  But, used to love to be able to put the sheets right back on the bed after being outside in the air.
I need to do some straightening up and get on with my day.
Hope everyone will have an enjoyable day.
Joy
Good morning dear hearts. I could not go to sleep last night, so got up, turned on the computer..took care of some stuff that was keeping me awake. Transplanted a few African violet stems from a plant that was giving up the ghost. Finally took a couple of tylenol and went right to sleep. Morning arrived too soon. However I must stay up as I am expected to be at a meeting this morning...two meetings really, but I can't cut myself in half so I will go to one.
I loved hearing about how we hung our clothes, and we really did all follow the same pattern of how to hang things and where and why.  How I miss that chore. I do not miss the ironing though. Ed wore white shirts to work,and the kids had school uniforms for a few years.
I am so sleepy.....my afternoon is free, so I will snooze away for sure. Have a great day my friends. I will see you later. June.
Good afternoon, sunny, windy and quite cool.  Tomorrow the big Nor'easter again and another one maybe Sunday. I had said before, Watch out for March.
Carolyn, I go to bed about 11 and read till 12:30, I average 3 hours sleep. All my life  I have had trouble sleeping. Hope your daughter is feeling better soon.
Jenny, I do not look forward to changing the clocks again.  Now, I have to tell you a very funny story about a senior moment.  One of my friends wrote me she was wondering what was wrong with the radio time and also the TV Sunday morning.  Until she realized it was not the weekend to change the time. Which she had done.
Amy, good luck to your hubby with his cardio test. I went the other day and the doctor said come back in 3 months. I felt better right away. WE had a plain grate on the furnace, It was a coal furnace, after a few years my husband put and oil burner in it. So no more coal dust through the house when coal was delivered. The post about the cloth line was the story of my life, I learn to hang cloths the correct way, at   a very young age.  Monday night my mother would set the wash tub up and soak the cloths, next day the scrub board would come  out and and she would be bent over the tub washing.  Tuesday was ironing. Then there was sewing day (always darning socks, my grandmother made my school cloths) Friday she did her baking. She made a lot of pineapple upside down cakes. She had a coal oven to bake in, so regular cakes never came out well. Pies were better.
Here in the park we are allowed umbrella cloths lines, but you are not suppose to hang out cloths on Sunday.
Jane, happy to see you posting and that you were able to be of help to your sister.
Gloria, I am perfectly happy with my Tracfone. Again we are having a snow storm and high tides.
Joy, yes the sheets and pillow cases smelled so fresh. Some people ironed there sheets.  Quote my mother: It's a poor body that can't iron its own  sheets.
June, glad to see you out and about.
My mother hung clothes outside too.  Our clothes line went from the garage to the house, back to the garage, across the lot to the neighbor's garage.  She had frogs to anchor the lines and when I sold the house, I took down the frogs and still have them.  I was able to hang clothes outside where I lived before coming to the condo, but here, of course, no outside lines.  Mother didn't have a dryer, but I did where I grew up.  Like everyone else, I loved the smell of freshly dried clothes.  In the winter, my mother had lines strung in our basement; she did not hang the clothes outside then; at least not that I remember.
We are getting a little snow now.  The ground was covered this morning, but the snow is gone and I have an idea we will be white again in the morning.  The weather report is for no more snow this week and we'll be in the 40s by then.
The best laid plans sometimes go astray. I dressed for the meeting but my mind and body was not willing. I kept feeling I would fall down or pass out or some kind of disaster would occur. So I called the desk and told dear Denise how I felt. She said, "I'll take care of it. Just lie down and relax."So she canceled me out on the program, she sent a Nurse up to take my vitals...they were all fine, but she said it may be the start of something, so she ordered lunch and dinner to be sent to my room, and I am to stay home and rest.
Lunch just arrived, so I will go and eat and back to bed. What a Life. :thumbup:
Home, tuckered and more than ready to do a whole lot of nothing now. I did fill the wood box and get another load of wood ready to go as I am not sure how tomorrow will be. Dr. decreased one med and wants to see him back in a month ,he has to wear a holter monitor  and will get that on the 21st.
I am glad everyone enjoyed the clothe line story and yes we all have been there done that. :) I still have a scrub board but happy to not use it . I liked the wringer washing machines I do think they got the clothes cleaner and remember putting bluing in your rinse  water to make whites white?
Larry, here is the main site and you can enjoy a lot of her work....I just sit back and enjoy each one.
Gloria there is even one on Rhode Island. :)
June, at our ages we just can't do everything we think we want to do.  You were wise to not go to your meeting.
I had been going to PT for an arthritic shoulder; I have had six sessions.  I just decided today that I could not finish what the therapist had planned so I told him today was my last visit and he understood.  I doubt he has had many, if any, 93-year-old clients.  I have three exercises I can do to try to gain strength in my arm but I'm not going to try any of them until the current pain subsides.  Actually, the pain will not go away but from some of his pressing on the arm, the pain has increased.  That is the pain that must lessen.
So both of us must slow down and take it easy so we can gain another year.  Gloria de is there already as is Junee.  I never thought I'd be here this long.
Amy, I liked Whister and I save it.  The only thing I looked at now was about New Hebrides and I crossed the Isle of Mull to get to Iona in 2010.  It was fascinating and i thought those pictures were beautiful.
Oh my gosh just had to pop in and comment on clothes lines. Where I live we can still hang clothes in the sunshine. In the older established areas we have no shame about putting clothes out to dry in the sun.
Some people put their clothes on stand alone drying racks out on their decks and balconies. Down in the town centre ( not the city centre) there is a massive retirement complex. Many of the residents have clothes drying on racks on the balconies of their apartments. These are expensive own your own apartments.
I have a rotary clothesline in my back yard. In the summer and on sunny winter days the laundry is dried there. In winter I have indoor racks and a dehumidifier with a clothes drying function. Most people I know no longer use driers as we are very conscious of energy consumption. Electricity is very expensive here. In winter some families are paying $600 a month to heat and run a large home. These are families who use clothes driers often and have their heating turned way up. I have mine set to 21C in winter which is healthy and I wear a light sweater indoors.  Luckily our maximum heating period is only on an average three months of the year in the Upper North Island where I live.
Coming in to say goodnight.
I am nursing a bug for sure and have not felt good all day.
Bob had a dermatology appointment this morning.  He had three spots taken off and sent in for biopsy’s and one thing frozen off. I really wanted to go with him, but I belonged at home.  Having grown up on a beach, needless to say he had burn after burns year after year, and we feel blessed that he only had these few things....seems like a miracle to me.  We are very thankful.
I, too, love all of the clothesline stories.  I always took so much pride in preparing my line...making sure it was double rubbed to make sure it was clean.  The clothespin bag was hung and ready for use.  Every item was shaken well and made as neat as it could possibly be and then hung to dry.  Each item alike were hung together.  I really miss those days, but to be honest I am not sure why as it was many times very cold and the items froze right in your fingers.... and at times, particularly when we lived in Colorado Springs, the wind blew so hard it was nearly impossible to get the sheets on the line...but I did and boy did they smelled oh so good and were oh so soft.  I hung sheets here in this house in the garage until just a couple of years ago before I gave it up.  No clothing allowed to hang outside here in this community.  Sorry to go on and on, but it was always a wonderful memory for me, as it seems to be for many of you.
MARYANN, it sounds like you made a good decision to stop the PT on your shoulder if it is causing you that much pain.  Just let it rest for a few days then slowly start your exercises again.  Good luck.
AMY, I plan to continue looking at your sight of the past whispers....it is so well done and so very enjoyable.  Thank you for sharing it with us.
JUNE DEAR, you clearly know best what you should do and when you just shouldn’t, so just keep that up.  Participate when you feel you can.  Hugs.
GLORIA, you are right....the chuck roast is no longer a less expensive cut of meat.  This smaller roast was nearly $10. and that is a sale price.  It sure turned out tasty though, and we will get at least two meals out of it.  Not a good thing to be knocked out by the clothesline pole...bet you scared your three little ones good.  I have to say that I remember quite a few people being “clotheslined” while playing and forgetting the lines were there and landing on the ground before they knew what happened.
I hope you all are having a good night of rest....I am heading that way right now.  Sleep well.  Pleasant dreams.
Jenny
 Hi Everyone.  After a very rainy day yesterday we are in for a nice clear sunny day which will only get up to about 57 this afternoon.  My plans for yesterday changed as by the time I left the dentists office I know I needed to wait until today to do the shopping at Costco.  Unfortunately at the dentist they found a small cavity that I get filled next month.  Yesterday evening Pat made a delicious French Onion soup for our dinner.  It called for a cup of wine but we didn't have that in the house so she used a cup of my breakfast cranberry raspberry drink and it made a delicious soup.  She used homemade croutons and three different cheese on top of the soup that was put under the broiler to melt the cheese.  This morning Scott is coming over to go with me to Costco and he is a big help and will carry in the purchases from the car when we get home.  This evening we are having fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and a dessert at our Wednesday night dinner at Church.  This is always a favorite meal.
Today we are going to have delivered the 7 new slide out shelves that will complete our lower cabinets and one for under Pat's side of the sink.  Hopefully Scott will feel up to installing part of them this evening when they come out after dinner.  We are also expecting delivery of the new telephone I ordered for Pat.  I put on a nitro patch this morning for the first time.  I am hoping it will help with the chest and arm pressure and discomfort and not give me a headache as the patches have when I used to have them applied while in the hospital.  Those were always applied on my upper chest and my cardiologist told me to apply them on my upper thigh so will see how that works out.
Gloria, I read or heard on the news that a lot of the electric company linemen from other States were staying over due to the new storm hitting you all today.  They tried the traffic cameras in the County we moved from and found they were not cost effective and were in fact dangerous as people would slam on their brakes to avoid being in the intersection when the light turned red and people would rear end them.  I think they have now removed most of them.  I remember the monthly cost was pretty high. I  think there are only a few things made as well as they used to be, certainly not appliances.  I am sure you remember that fish used to be economical and now is really a premium item cost-wise.  I recently bought the Brainsbreakers 5 jigsaw puzzle program and it has some nice new features.  Is this the one you have?
Bubble, thanks for sharing the jigsaw puzzles sites.  I copied and emailed them to myself so I won't lose track of them and can check them out the evening.
Joy, my wife didn't want a dryer until she had two infants and we got one and then she seldom used the clothes lines we had in our back yard in Oklahoma.  We never had the type of lines that you took down when not in use.  We didn't worry about tacky as everyone had the same type of lines.
June, sorry to read that you weren't up to making one of your planned meetings but you are wise to not push and get the medical attention you need.
deAngel, I don't think I could operate on only three hours of sleep a night.  I like to get at least 8 and also several hours of resting each day.  However, this morning I work up about 4 am and couldn't go back to sleep for got up around 5 am and started my day.  While my mother had a washboard I think she always had a wringer washer that was located in the smoke house (read storage building) but had to heat the water in the house and carry it out to the washing machine.  How times have changed. My grandmother had a mangle in her little storage room in her house and she ironed about everything, including sheets and dish towels.
Amy, I am always encourage when a medicine dosage is eliminated or reduced a dosage.  I have looked at the Whisper site and downloaded a series of 35 pictures for puzzles.  I also set a bookmark to be able to go back to that site for new pictures.  I should be well supplied now with that link and those furnished by Bubble. I just now sent myself another email so I can check out the Jigsaw Planet site this evening.  Thanks.
Carolyn, this new home we have is all electric and my bill runs just a few dollars over $200/month and we use a lot of electricity.  Those electrical usage charges sound terrible down your way.
Jenny. sure hope the test is negative from the biopsy.  I had my first spot burned off just last years but don't have any other spots.  I am fortunate in that I grew up on a farm and was outside a lot but usually wore a cap.  I am now getting old age spots but they don't need to be removed.  Sorry to read that you are fighting a bug.  I sure hope it isn't the flu as that seems so hard to get rid of this year.  The last time we were at Costco Scott and I saw a piece of steak in the meat counter that cost over $100.  Needless to say that will not be residing in my refrigerator or freezer.
Lloyd, kind of chilly out your way.
Good morning.  We had several inches of snow, but none is sticking to the roads.   The ground and trees are covered , but luckily, the roads are not a problem.   Most of the schools are on a 2 hour delay.   Haven't heard anymore about whether they closed.    The reporter for our local TV station said it was a great type of snow for making a good snowman.  A really wet snow.  The  kids who stay home today,  will have fun.
Larry,  your church dinner tonight sounds good.  I love that kind of supper,.
I have an order for Walmart made up, but waiting for my son or DIL to be able to pick it up.  They both have been sick.  I am out of a lot of things, but have been making out ok.  I ordered take-out from our local Chinese place the other night, and ordered pizza last night.  I won't starve.  LOL
Good morning to you, Amy and Lloyd.
And, Jenny, hope you are feeling better this morning.
I have had breakfast and now need to decide what to do with my day.  I am sure I will come up with something.
Hope everyone will have a great day.
hello again.
like I have said a bad piney returns  here i am. about 35 miles from us is a small town Clinton MO. last evening a domestic disturbance a police officer was shot and killed.  7 months to the day another young officer was shot and killed.
so sad so many think the gun is the answer, I think we need to follow the bible
and do as it says spare the rod and spoil the child. I think some good thrashing on the bottom makes the head work better. adults and children with this shooting has gotten out of hand. god help us all.
Good morning everyone, a dark one here waiting for the storm. latest is up to 8"his area. People already in a panic. Wonder what the younger generations would think if with no warning they woke in the morning with 15 inches of snow. I am sure some of you remember the days that happened. No plows to clear the roads or snowblowers to clean driveways.  Manual labor did the clean up. Some areas still do not have power and this time I think there will be more trees/branches and wires down with the heavy wet snow.
BUBBLE  thanks for those links. I always liked making puzzles, my older sin still does, too.
JOY  I remember the lines zigzagging across the back  yard. Taken down when the clothes were dry.
JUNE  glad I do not have anything planned for the next week or so. Dislike having to go out in bad weather now.
GLORIA de  we are really getting the March winds. Not supposed to be as strong time, 25 to 50mph. Of course there could be gusts higher than that. My Mom ironed just about every thing, even towels.
AMY  when I first got a ringer washer I do not know how many buttons I broke till I learned how to fold the clothes right. Will have to check out that RI one. Always the pictures look much nicer than the sites are.
JENNY  I liked bringing in sun and wind dried sheet and make up the bed with them. That night they smelled so good getting into bed. I do miss that. There are clothes lines in a section of the back yard here fehing a stor age shed where they cannot ge seen. I would make use of them if i could but cannot reach the lines anymore.
LLOYD it is 33° here and do not expect it to go up much more.
LARRY  yes there are some linemen here from other states and staying through this storm. With heavy wet snow I am afraid there will be more wires down and more without power. I have Brainsbreaker 4. Maybe I will look into the new one you mentioned.
The bravery of winners
Nancye Sims
It really takes a special boy or girl, man or woman,
To make it to the starting line,
Or play in the game.
For to get there
They first had to defeat a host of inner foes,
More formidable than any visible opponent..
From the little voice of doubt inside them that whispered you can’t do it,
To the voices who had no faith in them.
So just to show up at the starting line,
And put yourself on the line for all to see,
Either your success or failure,
Takes incredible courage,
Incredible strength,
Incredible character,
Incredible determination,
And an incredible dream.
IT TAKES A WINNER!
What makes a winner?
Winners take chances. Losers refuse to.
Winners try to win. Losers watch others try.
Winners insist it is possible. Losers say it’s no use.
Winners challenge life. Losers challenge nothing.
Winners don’t give into fear. Losers fear everything.
Winners see only success. Losers see only failure.
Winners give the most when it’s hardest. Losers give up.
Winners vow to make it work. Losers walk away.
Winners go after what they want. Losers wait for it to show up.
Winners ask questions. Losers know everything.
Winners have goals. Losers don’t want to go anywhere.
Winners have character. Losers only care about themselves.
Winners take action. Losers just complain.
Winners give all. Losers take all.
Winners have hope. Losers feel hopeless.
Winners live by faith. Losers by fear.
Winners accept uncertainty. Losers run scared.
Winners overcome obstacles. Losers are overcome by them.
Winners have dreams. Losers dismiss them.
Winners are Champions
Because they are brave enough to try.
Because they reach for their dreams.
Because their heart is bigger than their fears.
Because the challenge is greater than the obstacles.
Because self respect is more important than failure
Because winning means more than anything,
And quitting is not in their vocabulary……
Gloria, those days of 15" of unexpected snow were before the days of sophisticated weather reports.  I used to tell of walking to grade school in snow to my waist.  Even given the fact I was short then, that amount of snow today would be up to my knees, so it still would be a lot.  We lived in the city so I think we had plows, but I walked up an alley and alleys did not get plowed.  Weather people may be wrong today, but still we know something is coming even if it isn't as much or as little as predicted.
My mother's first washer, or at least the one I remember, was a spinner washer, not a wringer washer, because my dad was afraid my mother would get her arm caught in the wringers, as some women did.  That washer lasted many years and when that gave up the ghost, I bought another one - used - and used that until semi-automatic washers came in.  By that time I was working in the appliance department of our electric utility.
When I moved to this condo in 1981, I bought a washer and dryer and they lasted until 2016 when the washer refused to spin.  We bought a Sears pair and Sears went out of business the next year!
There are whitecaps on Lake Michigan.
Good Afternoon,
Remember when I said we could have a freeze this time of year?  Well - last night was The Night and the wind chill today is in the 20's!
Fortunately,  the newly planted pansies didn't freeze but I just about did when I went out to bring in the trash/recycle bin without wearing a coat.
One bin blew over twice after the housekeeper put it out yesterday so I brought it back in the garage.  Took it back out when the wind died down at sunset and then checked before I went to bed to be sure it was still standing.  it was.
At that time, I noticed several solar lights in the flower beds were unlit so Plan A was to go out this afternoon and replace the batteries.
Was also going to put out another set that I'd gotten on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond - as well as a cute solar lit small figurine of 3 gnomes behind a "welcome to the garden" sign".
However, I'm now sure there are plenty of Things To Do Inside so I'll wait until a warmer day to do all that.
Off to see if I can find one of those TTDI.....or not.  ;D
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
 Mary Ann in 1948 was the worst year I remember for snow. now for getting caught in the wringer. My mom did but it wasn't her arm. she was leaning over the side reaching over the wringer catching clothes and running them through twice. it ought her right besom and pulled her down where she could not reach the switch to reverse it. I was close and she yelled loud enough to get me in there and reverse it. by verbal i was told it turned it black and blue. every accident happens by one or someone else carelessness. Have a great day.
Lloyd, the worst winter I remember was 1951-52 when we had over 130 inches.  Average is 75 inches.  Norm was in Germany that winter so missed out on it, however, being in Germany, he was able to ski and he liked that.
Knowing why my mother had a spinner washer, I never wished for a wringer washer.  Tom does our laundry now because I don't go down the steps to the lower level.  I do miss doing the laundry, but I also like having it done for me.  Your poor mom, I can guess that she'd be black and blue.
That sounds like a mammogram without the exam, Lloyd!  I remember the one Mom had on her old Maytag washer was a hand crank type.... at one time Maytag was trying to find "the oldest model still in use" and Mom was sure she had it~  Don't know if she got the serial number to send in but she hated to part with it.  Many years later (she kept it stored in the basement), Dad decided it would be a great walnut washer.... they had a walnut tree in their back yard & Dad would save half the walnuts for the squirrels & other half he would take hulls off & then wash, had a metal lathe that he set to a certain strength to crack the walnuts to get whole nuts out.  A lot of work but they enjoyed doing things like that.
They added a garage on one side of the house & bedroom with bath on the other side (for their old age).  Dad insisted on garage doors on front & back so he could drive through to park in back.... had gravel from the garage to a work shop a few car lengths back.  Great idea, and they had screens made to cover both doors so they could put up long tables in the garage for big parties... (family reunions).  He discovered that putting the walnuts on the ground & driving over them got the hulls off very easy, but cleaning them out of the gravel was not so easy.   :crazy2:
Callie, our wind gusts were 50-60 mph yesterday, absolutely drove me nuts, a little calmer today but will wait & hope for better day tomorrow so I can water the grass & hope it actually lands in MY yard.
I would put my clothes out on the line at night, when we lived in England, because the neighbor said "if they freeze they will be whiter".  I had not turned 20 when I got there so when the first baby came 2 years later I really appreciated the advice.  Sometimes I would haul wet clothes (had to wash baby things in the bathtub & sent OUR clothes to the cleaners in the first apartment) down 3 flights of steps (our apartment was the original attic)... over & over because of the weather.   We had a little 8x12" electric heater built in the wall in the living room and bedroom, no heat in the kitchen or bath, but I did have to get a wooden rack to hang baby things around to dry, long before the diapers of today.  I was thrilled to have my very own lines in the next house in High Wycombe! Sounds like we all had the same experiences with living, a good life but I am grateful for the advantages of today.
When we lived in western Kansas and the last baby was born, hanging diapers & sheets in that wind was a constant battle, and even after we moved to Wichita & built a new house, hanging sheets on the highest road around the city limits was a challenge to not end up on the acre next to us.  Some days I would start hanging and by the last thing up I could start taking down. I got my first (gas) dryer at that house, guess in 1967, and would you believe, still using it?  Cas put on 2 new belts & think it is about to need another. Son, Andy, insists when it needs one he will fix.... 50 years & still drys faster than anyone else's that I know of.
I have to go feed cats, they are outside and I don't want Tommy to go catch his own supper.  This morning he brought me breakfast to the pool door.  A full grown rabbit that he ate part of the head, body still warm.... YUCK!  Don't know how he gets them over the fence around the pool, has to climb the posts & over the more than 5' sort of plexiglass (Lexan) between the posts.  Normally he brings them in alive but one got away from him & drown in the pool last year.... it was about as big as he is.  He looks so sad when I gather the body into trash bags & put in the dumpster.... "all that work and SHE doesn't appreciate it".
Such is life in my corner of the world. Shirley
Good evening....here I am just getting in here late again.  I haven’t been worth a darn all day long.  I thought maybe I was getting better but as the day progressed I started feeling much worse.  More pressure in my head, coughing more and my ears are bothering me too.  I guess it is just the meaness coming out😩😱
We had a terrible fire in downtown Denver this afternoon.  It was a new apartment complex with just the wooden structure showing...they think it was started by a cigarette from one of the workmen.  It was such a big fire that it caused many other buildings to catch fire plus vehicles.  Even car windshields were melting.  There were several injured and at least two fatalities.  They were sayiny how thankful they were that we did not have the terrible winds today as we have had the last two days.
LARRY, the meal at church tonight sure sounds good to me.  I am glad Scott is going to help you do the Costco shopping and hopefully to install the slide outs for the kitchen.  We were at Costco a couple of days ago and I saw a sign in the meat counter saying take $10. off each package of some steak item...well 10$ was nothing.....the price on them was well over $100. That steak must have been filled with gold.  I do not think I could enjoy eating something knowing it cost that much!
LLOYD,  I knew a lady that also had the same expierences with her wringer washer and it sure made me be VERY careful to not get near the wringer with any body part.
I, too, broke a few buttons like you, SHIRLEY.   One did have to learn the tricks of the trade didn’t they?  Oh my, I am sure glad my kitty is not a out door boy as I am sure he would bring me a rabbit out two occasionally.  Between the squirrels, birds and rabbits he is driven pretty crazy and would sure like to get out and chase them.
Growing up in a small town in southwestern Colorado, (Cortez), we never had snow equipment to remove snow from the streets so many times when walking to school I had snow well above my knees to get through.  My brother had a paper route and I would go with him when the weather was bad and it required us to stop many times to clean the snow out of the spokes and fenders.  Now you know why I wanted to move to Arizona to get away from the cold winters.  And WHY am I back here again?  To be near FAMILY, and of course being retired we are not required to get out if we do not want to and we live in a community where we have snow removal.
I wish you all a good night of rest and I hope those of you that are having storms will not be too put out by it.  Hope your internet, cable and electricity stay on.
Jenny
How I have enjoyed reading about your day. You are all so special, and I am so happy to be able to share our days together. I had a very good day.....Up early and into a nice warm shower, then into my recliner to use my first dose on the breathing machine. I use it twice a day..early morning and at bedtime. Then I get that first cup of coffee, and do my morning devotions and sing a hymn, just because I want to. Then breakfast and a bit of t.v.  Today was Bible study with Jeff..a young man about my son's age. He and Gary take alternate Wednesdays, teaching us. I love it. They both have eager personalities, that brings the Bible alive.
Had a big lunch downstairs..soup and a BLT, and banana cream pie. Had a couple of good walks,  Right now it is 6:30, and time for me to have a light supper at home.
May God Bless us all with a refreshing nights sleep, and a happy tomorrow.
The temperature is heading for the low 90s today and we are heading to Acco, or Acre as it's sometimes known. This was a base for the crusaders way back when.
Then its back to Haifa, especially the B'hai shrine and the shrine at Mount Carmel.
Good morning everyone. Snowing hard still and looking out the window everything is white. Does not look windy but the trees and cars and everything are covered. The maintenance man is already out with his little plow clearing the walkways. I fell asleep with the sound of it and heard it again when I woke. Have my first cup of coffee and the local news on. Weather man said we have 6½ inches of snow and 30° and roads are very slippery. One man is out clearing his car and I can see that sometime during the wee hours the plow had been trough the parking lot. Lights blinked once so now I am keeping a flashlight hanging on my rollator. Maybe I should post this anfd then get back to reading the posts.
LLOYD  always good seeing you here but I would not call you a bad penny. I know  lady who baby sits a great granddaughter. That  is one 4 year old wh should have he hands or bottom spanked. When she was born the parents told everyone to never scold her for anything. She is a terror, even throwing things and this woman.
MARY ANN  a few of us were talking about years ago when there were no forecasts like today and you looked out in the morning to see what the day was like. These days when snow is in the forecast people panic at the thought of even  inches of snow. Heck a snowfall of at least a foot of it was normal in the winter. Even my 3 remember the roads here before plows. Then they would have dump trucks loaded with sand and 2 men in the back shoveling sand from the back onto the roads. Where we lived when I was young was a mill town. If the weather was really bad at 7 in the morning they would all blow their whistles once  but if it was really bad they would blow it twice, that meant no school.  That did not happen often. My MIL had one of those spin dry washers, better than the wringers.
CALLIE  things to do inside are better than going out in the cold and freezing. I know my son will go to work this morning and how I wish he would stay home. Then a snow storm never kept me out of work either. Glad other son is retired and does not have to get out. My grandson works from home so he will be OK, too. Having a job working on computers the company has cut back on office space and some of them work from home now.
SHIRLEY  glad the wind was not bad with this storm, about 20mph tops so that might help to keep power running.
JENNY  I saw about the fire in Denver on the news this morning. Huge one.
JUNE  glad you had a good day yesterday. Wish your days could all be good.
DON  reading of the places you go in Israel and the history  there makes me wish I could see those places, too.
LLOYD  latest update on the TV is we now have 13 inches of snow. One channel was 6½ and now the other one says 13. Crazy.
Think I have been up long enough now for breakfast. Have a great day.
Broken...still beautiful
Bob Perks
My wife, Marianne, loves hummingbirds. I've watched her sit on our deck for hours waiting for one to come by.
We get the magazine, "Birds and Blooms" and in it are pictures of people hand feeding these magnificent creations of God.  I also see photos of many gathered around colorful feeders in back yards.
We get one.  Just one bird flies by the three feeders we have placed in the proper location in our yard.
Still, waiting for that one is a thrill.
Like the one I ordered from my friend, Don Merrell.
The hand blown glass ornament delicately crafted by the master craftsman arrived today. I was so excited.  It was a surprise for my wife.
I carefully opened the box and cleared away the styrofoam peanuts to find a box inside the box.  Like a kid at Christmas, I was anxiously awaiting to see the gift inside. Opening that box, I found dozens of soft, thick tissue wrap cradling the treasure. As I unfolded it I could hear a "clinking" sound.
"Not good!" I thought to myself.
One after another I unfolded the wrap until I discovered that this incredible glass ornament was broken.
So was my heart.  Not just because I wanted to give it to my wife, but because so much work went into it.   The colors were beautiful.  The intricate detail of the bird must have taken hours to perfect. But there it was in three pieces.
I immediately took a picture of it and emailed it to Don and followed up with a phone call. Within a short time he returned my call.
I had never spoken to him before, you see he's one of my "friends I've never met."
"Don, I am so sorry!" I said immediately.
His calm, deep voice began to sooth my spirit. I was more upset about it than he was.
"Bob, it doesn't happen often, but it does happen," he assured me as he chuckled a bit.
It came all the way from North Carolina, from the hands that made it, wrapped it, carefully boxed it and shipped it to arrive here in three pieces.
"Don, I'm sending the piece back to you today," I said. "Maybe you can reuse parts of it for something."
Later when he replied to my email, he wrote, "You were right.  It really took a hit!"
He kept apologizing to me.  It wasn't necessary.  I know firsthand that these things happen.  I've shipped many of my mugs to customers and over the years a few arrived broken even though I, too, packed them carefully.
"I have another in that color.  It will be sent tomorrow," he said.
We talked for a few minutes and when I hung up I felt better about the whole thing.
But here's the most remarkable thing about this.  Even though this fine piece of art work was broken, it still was beautiful.  I mean, in three pieces, it was stunning, so now I can only imagine what it will look like whole.
There's a deeper story here.  You know there always is.
There's another Master Craftsman.  His handiwork is undeniably beautiful.  He painstakingly creates it, too, and sometimes as it travels through life it gets damaged and broken. But these pieces cannot be replaced.  They are much too valuable, unique and created not just to add to the world, but to be a reflection of the Creator.  An art work with a purpose.
They can't be sent back for repair, He does it right where they are.  Some are slightly chipped.  Some broken in two.  Sadly, others are broken in a million pieces, but that does not mean it can't be whole again.
Come on, you know what I am talking about.  You!
You've been broken.  You've been whole and broken again.
But just like that glass ornament you were still beautiful.
Give the Creator a call.  You'll hear a calm, deep, voice. He'll tell you "it's okay, it happens.  You really took a hit!"
Then if you permit Him, He will begin to repair your brokenness, but He can only do it if you trust and believe. Like my friend who creates from glass, it will take time.
In the mean time remember...you may be broken, but you are still beautiful.
Good morning everyone..
Where is Jane???
Woke up to the ground covered in snow, not a lot maybe 2 inches so Mr Shovel and I shall waltz.  Yesterday was long and so was the drive but now that is over with for 6 months till hubby has to go back. Today is back into town for more blood work for hubby, he is to not take his meds till after the test is done. Then home to chase dust bunnies.
Joy I am glad we didn't get several inches of snow.
Gloria hope your power doesn't go out on you.
Lloyd, hope you caught more shut eye.
Better get dressed and outside to clean the walks and driveway.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning to Amy, Lloyd, Gloria, and Don.   Nice to see you all here early this morning.  And good morning to all the friends who will be here later.
Don, your travels today sound very interesting.  Will look forward to some pictures.
It is a pretty sunny morning, but still so cold.  And, now they are talking about another storm next week.  I am so ready to just run away.  SO, tired of the cold and messy weather.
Nothing special on my plate today.  Just trying to get moving.  I am just so slow and lazy in the mornings.  I was up early so that I could go down and get my mail from yesterday.  I was expecting a package, so wanted to pick it up before today's mail came.   So,  I am sure a nap will be on tap for later today.
I have an on-line order ready to be picked up at Walmart, but I told my DIL that it can wait until Saturday.  She is feeling better, but still coughing.  It is good that I can just keep adding to my grocery list, and don't have to check out until I know when it can be picked up.   My pantry is almost bare, but I can make do until the week end.
I hope everyone will have a good day.  Stay warm and dry if you are in one of the colder or wet areas.  I know everyone is ready for spring.
Joy
 Hi Everyone. We woke up to a really chilly morning and we had a freeze last night.  Today we will get only into the low 50's but it is a nice sunny and clear day with no wind.  The only thing on the agenda for today is to go to coffee.  The old fellow I pick up to go to coffee with me celebrated his 88th birthday last night and everyone at the dinner sang Happy Birthday to him.  His daughter had brought in cupcakes and he called me over to his table and shared one with me and one for Pat although Scott actually ate here.  Later today I think Pat and I go and both have hair cuts. We did have a nice dinner last night at the Church.  The fried chicken was very tasty.
Scott has a new tenant for his apartment at the back of his house and I invited him to come and have dinner with us and then he came out for the evening and played Farkle with Pat and Jennifer while Scott put in a couple of the shelves.  In the other cabinets the top shelf is removable which makes putting in the bottom sliding shelf fairly easy.  However, the ones he worked on last night had the top shelf permanently attached so the bottom shelf was very difficult.  After he had installed it we found that it was too wide and I should have gotten one not as wide.  So that one will come out and we will use it in the bathroom.  Pat did get her new phone and it is really nice as has big numbers and a larger screen on the front.  She can also answer and end a call without opening the lid and it has three present numbers.  I think she is really going to like it and it is red, which is what she wanted.
Joy, glad your roads stayed clear from the snow.  My son was a huge help to me yesterday at Costco and he says he will go with me anytime I need to go in the future to do any shopping.  I think our pantry and refrigerator/freezer are pretty well stocked for the rest of the month.
Lloyd, I guess the size of a town has little to do with the dangers to our policemen.
Gloria, I sure do remember seeing the snow come down and wondering when would it quit.  I remember a few times we had very deep snow.  I also don't remember our school being called off very often as the kids all walked to the one room country school house and could wade through pretty deep snow as there often had been no traffic on the roads since the snow.  I hope your area is OK today.  Brainsbreaker 4 still works well for the jigsaw puzzles.  Pat and I had used it for many years and I finally decided to get the version.  The changes probably aren't worth the $20 it cost but that helps support the man who created it and continues to maintain the site.  I really enjoy sitting in my easy chair with my laptop working the puzzles as does Pat.
Callie, why do the solar lights need batteries?  I thought the sunshine recharged them.  It sounds like you are chilly down your way like we are here. It is cold enough here this morning for my leather coat.
Shirley we had a walnut tree out in one of the pastures that produced many walnuts and in our yard there was a hickory nut tree and I loved to eat the nuts from both.  I can't even guess how many quarts of walnut halves my grandmother must have prepared over the years.  I think cats like to reward their owners with gifts that they have caught.
Jenny, have you seen the doctor.  That sounds like pure misery you are enduring.  I did need Scott's help yesterday with the shopping.  I was able to get a riding cart yesterday at Costco as not sure I would have done very well walking the aisles and had several things to get.  I especially appreciated his putting the things in the car and then unloading them and getting them into the kitchen.  I suppose there are a lot of people who wouldn't think anything about the $100 steaks.
June, always pleasant to read that you have had a good day.
Don, I hope you and Bubble have a great day and don't get too hot on your outing.
Gloria, hope you don't lose power today and get too much more snow.  That poor child you spoke of with no discipline in her life will have trouble when she grows up and find the world is all about here and what she wants.  All children need to know the rules and learn the boundaries.  Working from home certainly has an advantage during bad weather.  I did that for 18 months before I retired and it worked very well.
Amy, I hope your roads are good as you go for the blood work to be done for your husband.  I hope those dust bunnies aren't too ornery today.
The Centipede
A single guy decided life would be more fun
if he had a pet.
So he went to the pet store
and told the owner
that he wanted to buy an unusual pet.
?
After some discussion,
he finally bought a talking centipede,
(100-legged bug),
which came in a little white box
to use for his house.
He took the box back home,
found a good spot for the box,
and decided he would start off
by taking his new pet
to church with him.
So he asked the centipede in the box
"Would you like to go
to church with me today?
We will have a good time."
But there was no answer
?
from
his new pet.
This bothered him a bit,
but he waited a few minutes
and then asked again,
"How about going
to church with me
and receive blessings?"
But again,
there was no answer
from his new friend and pet.
So he waited
a few minutes more,
thinking about the situation.
The guy decided
to invite the centipede
one last time.
This time he
put his face up against
the centipede's house and shouted,
"Hey, in there!
Would you like to go
?
to
Church with me
?
and learn about God?"
YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS
......
This time,
?
a little voice
came out of the box
,
"I heard you the first time!
I'm putting my shoes on!"
Lloyd:  Cute joke - Shirley is still laughing.
It is so interesting to read notes from around the world.  Different living conditions, weather and all sorts of news.
A chicken carcass with a lot of meat is simmering in the crock pot for soup.  The weather is beginning to warm a bit in Tucson - Jenny:  You would like this temperature as it doesn't get as hot as Phoenix.
Don just returned from a walk - he met a javelina scooting by and that is a bit unusual in daylight.  Both son and DIL have rough colds - so far no flu.
We are all different:  we are all the same.   :)
:snowball: Both dogs just came in with their backs covered in snow. It has been snowing most of the day, lightly, but now it is getting serious! I shovelled this morning  and I think I will do it again tomorrow morning . While out this morning I heard a robin and hope it will find enough to eat!
Jane, is having trouble trying to get in S$F but she said she will keep trying.
June, loved the punch line and couldn't help but think if the centipede has any tap shoes :2funny:
Carol,hope your son and dil feel better soon...lots of fluids and chicken soup helps :)
Carol I am lost I have no clue as to what you think is a joke. Shirley was not relay laughing ,I think she was just lightening up a true fact about my mother leaning over the wringer of a wringer washer and getting her bosom caught in it and I had to reverse it and get her loose. true story. Shirley was comparing it to getting a mamagram you ladies have to do getting tested for barest cancer. hope that clears things up.
June, I join Shirley in laughing, that was a cute one. :2funny:
The sun is in and out to day, more snow on the ground, it is very heavy, two trees when down in the yard next to me. As of this morning 38,000 people are without lights. Some as much as 5 days.
Larry, yes pets do catch things thinking they will make you happy.  Taffy one more laid a mouse next to my chair, where I was going to set and have my breakfast. Larry, think I wrote this before my mother never had a washing machine,  When Cyriel and I got married and moved back to Long Island when he got out of the service.  we went on a waiting list first for a refrigerator we had a ice box this was 1946, after we moved to the Lighting Co, Dennis was 6 mos. old and we went into Jamaica to Macy's Dept. store and bought a Maytag ringer.  When it was deliver out to Ronkonkooma I went to plug it in, but there was no cord.  My husband checked the machine out and there was no motor. It took over 6mos. to get that straighten out, no one would believe us.  the store even threaten me when I would not make payments.  Now people think I am a little crazy if I look something over and check for a motor.
The first washing machine I remember my mother using was a round galvanized tub that she has setting on two kitchen chairs, with i big scrub board sitting inside with Hot soapy water.  I don't recall how she rinsed anything...I was probably about four years old. My brother and I were bathed in this same tub.....together. Wash day was usually boiled white beans with pork for supper. How times have changed. My Mother lived for 90 years, in spite of the labor she had done in her life time. She remarried in her late forties, to an oil driller and they moved to the Persian gulf for about 7 years, where she had house servants, and she played golf on the desert sands. Compared to my mothers life, mine was dull. Elec. everything, but no servants.
We had a memorial service at our Chapel this afternoon. It was quite a new experience for me. The lady had been a resident here for four years, but the Chapel was filled with other residents and family and friends. a beautiful service with three different Ministers speaking.
I am making a light supper at home...something new....I am trying out hard boiled eggs in the microwave. I found out "how" on the computer. So I had  better go eat them while they are still warm........
June, you reminded me of a setup my mother had for washing.  I've told that she had a spinner washer.  She also had two galvanized tubs that sat on a rack and Mother would take the clothes from the washer and put them in one of the tubs of hot (warm?) water for a first rinse, then put them in the second tub for another rinse.  She would put the clothes in the spinner section of the washer and she may have  put additional water in there and all of the water would spin out.  I think it wasn't as hard a procedure as I've made out.  I still have one of the galvanized tubs and I have the stick that my mother used to get the clothes out of their various tubs.  I don't know what happened to the second tub but I seem to remember someone filled it with water softener salt which didn't do the tub any good and it probably was disposed of.  The salt may have been wet.
Good evening.....
Still suffering with this cold.  Did not sleep well at all with the coughing and horrible sore throat.  It was a beautiful day here so around noon i got dressed and we went the Zoo to get some fresh air and some sunshine.  I did not feel any worse being out than I did sitting here in my chair.  Tonight I am no better....same issues.  I really do not think I need to see my doctor, but I will see how I am on the morning.  Not sure what a doc can do for me....to be honest.
I have the worse irritation on the outside of my throat...under my chin.  It itches and is so irritated...I have put Benidril lotion on it and it hardly helps at all.  Not sure I have ever expierences this before....it is very strange and extremely annoying. This is in addition to the horrible burning and itchy throat....
Maybe I do need a doctor😢🤣
MARYANN, is your arm feeling better now that you are not doing the PT and irritating it?  I hope?
Cute joke, JUNE.
Enjoyed your Broken...still beautiful, GLORIA.
GLORIA de, you need to tell us the rest of the story about that washer with no cord and no motor!
Pleasant dreams to all.
I am pretty sure I am older than you so i will keep on running and you can keep on following. just so we stay in touch. Have a great day I am going to get another drink of water and go back to bed, the tattle tail on my breathing machine said I have only had 6.33 hours of good sleep with no mask leak and good humidity. see everyone Later.
Good morning everyone. Once again Cox was out yesterday. After posting I was watching the news and suddenly The TV went out. Came back late afternoon before my date with my daughter. Power stayed on so at least that was a bonus. Yesterday was a cold damp day with no sun, this morning I was happy when I pulled up the shade and saw the sunshine. Hooray but only 25° and the sky tp the west is dark so maybe flurries as the day goes on. Woke too early again, just 3am when I looked at the clock.
JOY  do not mind the cold as much as the dark dreary and damp days. Just wish the snow had happened more in January and Ferbuary. Time for it to warm up now. Like you in the mornings I think a turtle moves faster than me. Yes another ocean storm on the way.
LARRY  I would not get rid of Brainsbreakers 4. I have added so many different photos and graphics to it I would not want to do that over again. With Cox being out so much lately I am glad I habe that installed, gave me something to do along with my MahJong games. I think when that little girl gets into school the teachers will have their hands full with her. If she does not learn that she can do every thing she wants she will have a miserable life. My grandson only has to go into the office every couple of weeks. The downside is he is on salary so those with problens get him 24/7 even holidays. It is a worlwide company with all the different time zones.
JUNE  must take me as long to get moving in the mornings as the  centipede took to tie his shoes. Good one, thanks.
GLORIA de  after WW2 companies were too anxious to get back to business and guess they goofed many times. I had a sis in law whos worked in a dress shop and knew what some of the sewers did to make their quota procuction for the day. When she went to buy clothing she checked everything, even all the seams before she tried anything on.
JUNE  there has been a few Memory Gatherings-their term- for those from this building who have died. There 2 that left here for nursing homes before they died.
MARY ANN  my Mom had one of those tubs, too. As a child I would go into the kitchen when I got up ro see it full of what here are call bullheads-like snall catfish. My Dad and 2 brothers had gone fishing during the night and those were what they caught. Only fish that would still be alive hours after being caught. The tub would have water in it and the fish would be swimming in it.
JENNY  the maintenance man's wife has had a cold that has lasted a month so far. She has that terrible coughing, too. I remember my Mom having me gargle warm water with salt and vinegar. I have had best results with a spoon of real honey to sooth a scratcy or sore throat. Don't swallow but let it melt and trickle down the throat.
LLOYD  the sun has pulled up its cloud blanket and now I can see some snow flakes floating in the air.
AMY  enjoy your sewing.
JANE  hope you can make it in here again when you get home from work.
Busy
Sorry, I don’t have the time
To talk to you today
I’m too busy with my life
To hear what you’ve to say
I’ve got this thing to do right now
And it can’t wait a sec
But maybe if things do ease up
Can I get a raincheck?
Not sure when that will be though
This thing is so high stakes
I’m so invested and full-blast
I can’t put on the brakes
I wish I could put it on hold
And ask what’s new with you
But you have to understand
My spare moments are few
I’ve barely got the time to eat
Or make a change of clothes
Or watch the playoff game tonight
Or other favourite shows
Sorry, I wish I could help
There’s so much going on
I’m so tied up in my affairs
I’m just a bit withdrawn
With what is going on around
The world outside of me
Hopefully I’ll have time to
Open my eyes and see
That the greatest purpose in
Life is to serve others
Maybe once things calm a bit
I’ll have time for my brothers
I’ll tell you what, this thing I’ve got
Could hold on just a bit
It’s not the end of the world if
We take the time to sit
And now that I think twice about
This other thing I’ve got
It won’t take as much time as I
Thought that it would allot
And since there’s times I’m really bored
And have nothing to do
I’d feel like such a hypocrite
To have no time for you
When I stop and ponder how
The word “busy” is used
I realize I’m just asking
Myself to be excused
For only having time for me
And my selfish affairs
It’s not a word that’s ever used
By anyone who cares
So strike what I said earlier
I’m not busy at all
My stuff can wait ‘till later on
I’ve got time for your call
It’s funny how despite how busy
Every day would seem
I didn’t realize that time’s
Passing was not extreme
There’s always moments to step back
From our busy day’s work
Service is the one job that
We shouldn’t ever shirk
Jenny, thanks for asking, but the pain will always be with me.  I just hope the non-use from the therapy will lessen the pain to some extent.  The hope with the therapy was that my arm would strengthen enough that I could raise it above my shoulder.  For instance, now I can only put a cup or water or a plate into the microwave with my left hand.  When the cup or plate comes out of the oven I can brace it with my right hand.  It is something I will have to live with.  I doubt if I never moved a muscle in my right arm or shoulder that the pain would leave.  It's arthritis, by the way.
I'm curious about the itching under your chin along with your sore throat.  I have no magic cure for either so I won't give advice but I hope both problems leave you soon.
 Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful sunny day here and headed into the low 60's this afternoon.  I have an eleven am appointment this morning for my semi-annual pacemaker check.  It is a very quick check.  On my way I plan on stopping off at Costco to drop off the ink cartridge to have it filled and then will stop back by on the way home from my appointment to pick it up.  I will grab a bite to eat while there.  This is the day for the housekeeper so we might go out for our main meal sometime this afternoon. I did get a haircut yesterday and Pat is going this morning and the stylist she likes wasn't there yesterday but it today.
I watched a lot of basketball yesterday afternoon late and last evening.  I plan on doing the same today.  This is the weekend for the Conference Playoffs.  I see our South Carolina University team lost their game.  It was a late game so I didn't watch it. I just fixed Pat her breakfast and used our new toaster oven for the first time to make a piece of toast.  Initially I couldn't understand why it wasn't heating and then realized I hadn't plugged it in.  We don't like to keep this type of appliance plugged in all the time so usually unplug it after use.
June, cute story. I have thought a lot lately about how hard my parents and grandparents had to work most of their lives. While I have always worked hard I determined when I was young that I would make my living with my mind and not my back.  When my father passed away in the Lutheran nursing home we had a service done there in the chapel so my mother was able to attend and other residents came in also.  We then had the actual funeral and burial back where they had lived all of their lives.  When my mother passed we just had the funeral and not the service at the nursing home as she had been in the special care unit the 18 months or so she had been in Iowa.
Carol, glad the javelina wasn't aggressive towards Don on his walk.  Sorry about the rough colds.  Here a lot of people are now suffering from the pine pollen and other pollens in the spring air.
Amy, do your dogs like being out in the snow?  Hope you didn't get too much so the clearing of it today isn't too big of a job.  That was a lot of quilts.  How many years have you been doing these special quilts?
Lloyd, refer back to June's little story in Post #110 and you will see why we are commenting on the funny story.  Good idea to have your own beef as we have no idea what the beef we buy in the store may contain.
deAngel, I have only a vague memory of the ice box my folks use to have and dad putting the big ice blocks in it.  By the time I was in school I think they had a refrigerator and do remember how the freezer part would ice up and have to be defrosted.  What an experience you had and what poor quality control that Maytag must have had at that time.
Jenny, it is time for you to get to feeling better.  At least getting out probably took your mind off of the suffering a little bit.  It has been years since I visited a zoo and think it was the zoo in San Diego.
Jane, glad to see you found your way back.  I was sitting here thinking how I could help you get here through an email.
Gloria, good to see that once again you didn't lose power.  It is great to have the internet and TV but better to have the heat if there is a choice.  Sorry to see you are in for another storm.  It must be tough for your grandson to be on call 24 hours a day.
  Lloyd:  Sorry, I meant June's story.  This is what happens when I get interruptions.  I never sleep a full 7 hours - wishing you very good health and look forward to your interesting stories from home.
We are awaiting a roofing company check - there was a leak for about one day over the back bathroom.  This is a tile roof and we don't know how to fix something so different.
My mother's dad lived in a small village on a lake in Minnesota.  Every winter, they cut blocks of ice and kept all the loads covered in hay.  This lake is so clear that the ice has been used for the winter carnival in "the cities" - Minneapolis, St. Paul.  I have cousin who cut ice just for the carnival and they have been featured on t.v. and newspapers.  It is a tough job.
Larry:  The colds around here have lasted longer than normal and have been tough to handle. So far, Don and I have kept away from some gatherings and now doors and windows are open so fresh air can cleanse the house air.  Best wishes for your pacemaker check. We unplug a lot of things just to help reduce electrical cost but for safety as well.
Amy:  Have you been asked to resew hems for anyone?  Once, a woman I had only met at church came to my door with a stack of her slacks and asked me to hem them - I didn't take the whole stack.
Now the temperature is averaging almost ten degrees above normal and we are wondering just what is ahead this year.  I am still allergic to something in this air.
Way to go Jane!!!Hope you get back in after work and let us know how your day is going.  I am getting some sewing done and just when I think I have enough blocks, I am short!! I will get this one done.......slowly.
Carol, yes people do ask and I have this posted by my desk for all to see....hope it posts. Would they ask Picasso to paint their house???.
Larry ,hope your check up went well.Both dogs love the snow the golden loves to roll in it,all you see is four feet flailing in the air when she does. I have been at quilting for 7+ years and thoroughly enjoy doing the cancer quilts.
Good Morning,
Busy day yesterday.....playing Bridge   ;D
Larry,  the sun does recharge the batteries in the garden lights and they stay on for about 8 hours.  However,  they're regular AA size and, just like flashlight batteries, eventually won't charge any more so must be replaced.
I don't have enough new AAs  to do all the lights that need them (2 batteries each) but am hoping the ones I took out of the solar lit Christmas lights have enough "oomph" left to do the job until I can get more.
I remember my mother's wringer washer and how the wringer arm swung around to be used between the two rinse tubs and then over the clothes basket.  Also remember the laundry flapping in the breeze on the outside lines.
I didn't have a dryer when we first moved to Leadville and remember the snow being deep enough for me to reach down to hang the clothes outside.  Either had to fold the sheets "long-ways" or ask hubby to shovel an area long enough to hang them folded "hem to hem".
Today is sunny and warm(er).  I slept in and am kinda letting the day happen "as it will".
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
I wrote a long post this morning, then my cursor hit an icon in the Task Bar and away went my message.  My shoulder hurt so I didn’t type it again, but I did look for the message and ended up with today’s posts and a yesterday post of Jenny’s at the end with no way to get to the top.  I restarted my computer and all was well.
The subject is now long past, but I’ll mention my folks’ refrigerator in the early 30s; it was an oak box with a door at the top for ice and a door at the bottom for food.  We had a card for the iceman that was divided into four sections with 25, 50, 75 and 100 in the sections to indicate how much ice we needed.  No one locked their houses during the day, so, of course, we left the back door open so the iceman could walk in and put the ice in the top compartment.  If we were lucky, the iceman would find some chips for us kids to suck on.  We also had a card for the Colonial man (bakery).  He'd come to the front porch with his basket tray of goodies and we always bought something.
In the late 30s, my uncle put a separate motor in the basement with a cord going up to where the ice box was and we had electric refrigeration.  We had to buy our neighbor’s old ice box which had two compartments at the top so my uncle could convert the ice box to electric.  Our ice box and refrigerators were all in the back hall of the house I grew up in.
That made me think of an incident I had regarding the refrigerator in late years.  I had the electric service upgraded to 200 amps and thought all was well.  The washer and refrigerator were on the same circuit, along with an outlet by the refrigerator.  One day I was mowing (electric mower) and washing when the refrigerator went on (plugged the mower into that outlet).  That was too much for the circuit and everything quit.  I turned on the washer, got the refrigerator started again and finished the mowing after the washer was finished.
Another time lightning hit our TV antenna (before cable) when we were at the cottage and we came home to no TV and a refrigerator full of spoiled food (it was summer and hot).
One memory triggers another, doesn’t it.
Mary Ann
I think I'm good with getting in but I'm REALLY tired today and my eyes are buggy.  I had to do CBLs (computer based learning sets) today and I don't like them.  I was on the computer for almost an hour and a half and an hour is my limit..  Otherwise, nice people in line, short lanes and lots of smiles.
However, I locked myself out and had to go in town to get my daughter's key since my neighbor with a key wasn't home.  Since tomorrow is Cathy's birthday, someone brought sticky buns for her birthday "cake" and I got to bring one home.  That was my lunch.  I'm sort of glad I locked myself out.
Now, I think I'll grab a blanket and see if there are any zzzzs stuck to it.  I'm sure the dogs will wake me in time for supper.
Just checking in to say goodnight. I took the day off today, because last evening I took another fall. All ready for bed, started across the floor, had that "feeling" in my head and woke up on the floor. Nurses came piling in, but I had been able to get myself up and into bed. I was only "out" for moments. It is enough to make me feel quiet for a day or so. So......I have had supper and will finish getting ready for a good nights sleep. Tomorrow is a new start.....will see you alll then. June
The cough is much worse now and my chest and stomach are so sore and my head hurts from all the pressure.  I have tried the honey GLORIA, and it is soothing.  I sure hope I can admit to feeling much better tomorrow!
I wish you all a restful night.
Good morning everyone.
Dull dreary day out there and it is not snowing :) Laundry day today, plus I hope to get back at the sewing.
June, hope your not sore after your fall ,you have been lucky in not breaking any bones dear lady.
Jenny, hope you feel better soon.
Callie,hope you had good hands in cards. Don't you love having days that "just happen" and not have to keep a schedule?
Jane, maybe a key hidden outside of your home but then you don't do this often and the neighbours are usually there. The treat was well worth the trouble. Happy birthday to Cathy today.
Lloyd, good morning ,did you get a better sleep last night?
Gloria, I am minding the cold more each year and don't care for damp days either.
Better get a move on here
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're waiting for the "boinger" for the doggies pills and then I'll be feeding them and me and then getting dressed.  I think I'll have time to get my hair cut this morning and then the day begins.
One of my classmates passed away this week and his funeral service is today.  A couple other classmates and I are planning to attend.  I've always said that if someone asked me who was the nicest boy in my class in high school I'd have had to pick Roger.  And he stayed that way through his life.  He will be missed!
Then this evening, my son's girls (The Lady Dragons Basketball team) plays their first game in the State playoffs.  If they lose they're finished.  If they win they go on!  My DiL, TLH and I are going to the game together.  Wish us luck!
JUNE, I'm praying that you and the floor have no more fights.  I hope you can stay upright!
JENNY, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling better and I'll second Lloyds remedy.  My father used to give that to us and I remember it helped.  I'd forgotten until he mentioned it.  If you don't want to add the bourbon, the honey and lemon also help.  I've done that one many times.  You need to warm it slightly in the the microwave.
Enjoy your day Everyfriend, whatever it brings!
I have just posted a series of photos from my most recent excursion which you cab see here: https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/photos-and-more/photos-old-and-new/new/#new
It was not a good day for pictures. A misty fog permeated the atmosphere which wasn't so bad because most of the shots were indoors anyway. The first shot is of the prophet Elijha taken in the grotto where legend has it he slept and from whence he ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire. This prophet is much venerated by Jews, Christians and Muslims, and in fact at the Seder table at the begining of Passover there is place set for him on the off chance he might drop in.
The grotto is in the Stella Maris Cathedral on Mount Carmel and is located underneath the main altar of the cathedral.I posted a picture to try and illustrate the layout.
I posted a few pictures that will give you a visual idea of the story. It's at this site.
Good morning, Very early for me. Sun is shinning no wind. Now the reason I am up and not back in bed, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE  While I was in the bathroom, Taffy has brought a dead mouse beside the bed.  I am waiting for my nephew to get up and remove it.
June, I am so sorry to read that you fell again. But happy to see you could pick yourself up and no broken bones.  Maybe you should also use a cane in the house. That is what I have to do, as my balance is very bad. My knew will just buckle once in a while.
Jenny, I am also worried about you.  My son drove home late one night from the citadel (SC) and had and awful cold and fever. I called the doctor as it was nearly Midnight. She said give him  a shot of whiskey with lemon and honey, but do not tell anybody I told you that. She was one of the doctors I knew well from working at the hospital. My cardiologist also told me to try Vicks on the bottom of my feet, with warm socks. That was last fall
Jane, I am also routing for your sons team.
By the way, I had pictures of my house posted in Photos & things I am now going to have a cup of coffee. Will have to wait before I go back into my bedroom.
Good morning everyone, was just watching the early news about the shooting at that veterans home in California. So much of things like those shootings in the news.  Terrible seeing so many sensless killing.
Sun is shining now 28°  and another storm for Monday. Some areas still without power. This town is lucky to have it's own power station. They are right there when power goes out they move fast.
MARY ANN  my left shoulder is like what you have. I cannot raise that arm above my head and the right one I had replaced is not working as good anymore either.
LARRY  last zoo I went to was the one in San Diego when they first had 2 Pandas on loan from China. I had never thought of their size seeing pictures of them but they are big. They also took me to their Wild Animal park in the mountains. Beautiful with different animals having settings like their natural habitat. Yes times my grandson had to tell someone from India to check the time and not call in the middle of the night and wake him. Good pay though.
CAROL  we cannot open windows here till it is 60° outside. No fresh air coming in so it does get stuffy. Manager says turn the heat down and turn  on a fan. That does not help.
AMY   that is a great picture.
JANE  good seeing you made it in again. We are not allowed to have a key made for our apartments but if we lock ourselves out "they" can let us in once after that they will charge $35 to let us in. I did have 2 made, one for my son and one in my wallet.
JUNE   so sorry your fell again. keep using your rollator to walk in your apartment with every step  you take. I have not fallen in many years and am very careful I do not again.
JENNY  hope you feel much better today. Only once many years ago did I have a cough where I just could not stop coughing.
JANE  good luck to your sons team tonight.
DON  wonderful photos. So much history there.
GLORIA  de  yikes I would have been on the bed yelling for help if I had a mouse near by, even a dead one. This building is good for not having anything. there is a steep bank in the back of the building and at the bottom is a river running by so it is surprising. Then there are several feral cats around so that could be the reason we do not see any.
We know we are getting new SS cards this year. About time they take our social security numbers off, kind of late after everyone has a way to see that personal number everywhere. Scammers are already at work with it.
Got this in an email.
It is true that the new cards will be sent out from April 2018 to
April 2019. Medicare has also warned on scams. They do not charge for
Cards or want your personal information over the phone.
This is pretty important to get to people with Medicare, their
Families and friends or adult kids who help parents with Medicare
Have just gotten word about the newest Medicare scam from an
Organization I educate for, Texas Senior Medicare Patrol, a division
Within the Better Business Bureau
Here's what you need to know to protect yourself, family and friends
Throughout the US.
Starting 4/1/18 Medicare will start a year long project to replace all
Current Medicare cards for beneficiaries to convert to alphanumeric ID
Numbers. Currently the ID number is your social security number. This
Is starting to hit the media.
Scammers are opportunistic
First of all the new Medicare card will come to you in the mail.
You don't need to request it or do anything. It will show up.
WHAT'S THE SCAM?
Somebody from "MEDICARE " will call to tell you you are getting a new
Medicare card. But until it comes you will need a temporary card. Fee
For the card is between $5-50 dollars. They want personal information,
 Hi Everyone. The morning is starting out very nicely with sunshine and the temperature in the 40's.  I expect we will get to 70 this afternoon but the forecast says mostly cloudy all day long.  The only thing I plan on doing today is attending a meeting this morning and then sometime this afternoon or early evening Pat are going to go out for our main meal.  We got a coupon yesterday for Ruby Tuesdays that if you bought one entree at regular price you could get a free burger.  That may be an offer too good to  pass off up we won't make that decision until it is time to go to eat.  I had a very busy morning yesterday as I stopped at Costco and dropped off the ink cartridge and then drove to the doctor's office and got there just at the time of my appointment.  However, the tech didn't call me back until about 11:30.  All was fine with my pacemaker/defibrillator.  The tech, a very pleasant young fellow, took the time to explain and show me on the monitor what they look for and what it means, which really was never done before in the 13 years I have had one of these devices.  It showed I still have 2.4 years of battery life before the device will have to be replaced.  When I left there I went back to Costco and picked up the ink cartridge and then went over to the food court and had lunch.  After resting I spent the rest of the day and early evening watching the college basketball games.  Today is the semi-finals of the tournaments so will be watching more this afternoon.
Yesterday Scott sent a text saying the house next to his was burning to the ground.  Other than getting some smoke in his house and losing part of his fence between the properties his property wasn't bothered.  I was sure glad the wind wasn't blowing yesterday.
Carol, it must have been very difficult to cut those big   blocks of ice and lift them.  I have never seen an ice carnival other than in pictures which are pretty amazing what they can do to make such artistic creations from ice.
Amy, I copied that link to the pictures and sent it to Pat. That would make any man shutter.  :)  My checkup was fine yesterday and it only takes a few minutes although I talked with the tech for a little while as I was the last person on his schedule for the day.
Callie, playing bridge is a tough job but someone has to do it.  :)  I now understand about the batteries now.  I guess it takes a special battery that is rechargeable.  We use rechargeable batteries in all of the things here that require AA or AAA batteries.  I had forgotten about the wringer arm on the washer swinging around and the tubs of rinse water that mother used.
Mary Ann, I expect you know this but if the tab is still opened even though it loads a different site you can often hit the back arrow and go back to the page where you have written your message and not lose it.  If the tab actually closes then the message is lost.
Jane, how often do you have to do the computer based learning sets?  Glad you had short lanes and lots of smiles the rest of your shift.  What a great idea of having sticky buns rather in lieu of a birthday cake. It is never a good day when we have to attend the funeral or memorial service for a long time friend.  Enjoy the game tonight and hope your team wins.  Cheer loudly!
June, so sorry to see that you have experienced another blackout and fall.  I hope today finds you feeling better but be ever so careful.
Jenny, you are suppose to be getting better and not worse.  I hope you were able to get some relief via sleep last night and it is better today.
Lloyd you have about convinced me that I need to buy a small bottle of bourbon to have available for a cold.  I think I have only purchased one other bottle in my entire life and that was for a party we were hosting for my employees since they had all worked very hard on a really big and difficult project that was finished.  I knew most of them drank but not a drop was used out of anything we had and I was completely shocked and ended up with several bottles of alcohol that sat on the shelf until I put them down the drain several years later.
Don, thanks for sharing the pictures from your day out.  I have several friends who had made trips to Israel and saw many of the sacred places over there.
deAngel, that dead mouse wasn't going to bother you.  Did you praise Taffy for her kindness in giving you a gift?  My wife walks very few steps in the house now without the walker and uses a cane when she leaves the house.  For some reason she hasn't yet written to the doctor about getting a prescription for a rollator to keep in the car.  She also has a knee that wants to about give away every once in a while and is pretty unsteady on her feet now.
Gloria, I read that the shooter at that Veterans home had been a patient there but think he had been dismissed. Apparently no one was hurt during the standoff.
Gloria, thanks for putting that message in, as the park also sent it out warning us about the Medicare scam. People must set up all night to think of these things.
Don, Tom’s lady friend is leaving for Israel today on a two-week tour.  She is so pleased she will visit Petra.
Amy, I have turned three clocks ahead this morning already; the most important one is the one beside my bed that I can see by opening an eye.  I think I would get up in time for church anyway, but I don’t want to take a chance, so I set the alarm too.
Gloria, I wonder if we stopped publicizing the shootings if they would lessen.  I think sometimes it is “monkey see, monkey do” but shooters seem to get their ideas from what is on TV or phones and they want their 15 minutes of fame too.
Gloria, my shoulder hurts a lot this morning.  I just finished my shower and I’m now in my house coat drying off.  Toweling off is difficult.  I find my left arm doesn’t want to do some things alone and my right arm is not much help.
Jenny, years ago I had a bad cough and it seemed I’d cough up my toenails.  The cough lasted several days and one day I felt really good and before the day was over I felt like a truck had run over me.  I did go to the doctor and found I had bronchitis.  I haven’t had any experience like that again, but if I did, I will seek help sooner.
Gloria de, Kendrick has not gifted me with a mouse, but he did go after a baby bird and brought it into the house.  Tom used a napkin to take it outside where I am sure it died.
Larry, I was in “Reply” when I wrote that message.  My cursor hit one of the icons on the Taskbar and the only icon I use is the one for Firefox and that is not the one I hit.  After I lost the post, I tried everything, going up, down and sideways.  When I got back here, the last post was followed by Jenny’s post of the previous day.  I couldn’t get to the top by clicking on Go Up because there was nothing there.  So I restarted the computer.  And that is why I am typing this on MS Word!
Mary Ann, Petra was on my agenda last year but I backed out following an attack by Isis terrorists where they killed several tourists. If it were in Israel I would go, but it's in Jordan and I don't feel safe there.
Good Morning,
Larry,   ;D at your comment about "somebody has to do it (play Bridge)".   I consider this a contribution to the economy since we play at a local restaurant and, therefore, provide them income for 8 lunches.   :thumbup:
Don,   enjoyed your pictures.   Israel was on my travel "bucket list" but I had to stop traveling before I could get there.
Mary Ann,  One time, I set my alarm "for the next morning" sooner than I usually did and was surprised to have it go off that evening!  Forgot there was no a.m./p.m. setting on that clock.
Yesterday was going fine until I came in from chatting on my neighbor's patio to find a small trail of water on the floor in front of the washer.
I had set the washer to "tub clean" so figured there was a clog in the drain.  I had some bath rugs in the hamper so was able to soak up the small amount of water after turning off the washer and no more came out.
Son came over late yesterday afternoon, moved the washer out and found nothing amiss.  He used the drain thingie on the front of the washer to collect 3 buckets of water  - poked around a bit in the drains inside the tub and that solved the problem.   Not sure what was keeping the water from flowing out as it should - but it's working fine this morning.
Since there was no soap in the water, he took each bucketful outside and watered the three planters.
How's that for recycling?   ;)
I found 3 e-books to add to my TBR list.  Guess what I'll be doing this afternoon.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable day.
Don, I'll tell Tom about your message.  His friend leaves this afternoon from Newark.  Since she is part of a tour, I hope the powers that be have investigated the possibility of ISIS.
Callie, I try to check with present-day clocks to see that I have AM time earmarked.  I have set the clock back in the Spring instead of Autumn.  One of the joys of "old age" - forgetfulness.
Just popping in to say I read all your good and interesting posts. We are having an overcast day, and some actual drizzle came down this morning, but that was it.
Had a call from Gary. He and Dori were driving home from their two day retreat. He sounded great...rested. He said our clinic had called to tell him of my fall. No secrets at this place. I still feel tired, so am sticking close to home.
Keep well dear hearts. I love you all, and enjoy your posts. You make my day worthwhile. June
The Lady Dragons lost by one point in the last 10 seconds of the game.  It was a heartbreaker!  The girls all were teary as they went to the locker room and I think my son was, also.  He's proud of his girls and they work hard for him!
Now I'm going to goof off!  It's been an exciting day all round!  I wish you all a restful night and a day filled with love and care, tomorrow!
Oh JANE, I am sad to read The Lady Dragons lost and especially since  it was so close...it could have easily been a win for them.  I can only imagine how disappointed they were, but they can hold their heads high that they played this well.  I am sorry to read about your friend passing away.
CALLIE, sure glad the small leak did not turn into a big issue...I hope it is taken care of for good.
I mixed myself up the potion of lemon, honey and some bourbon.  It sure tasted good and cleared my head up for a bit...felt good on my throat to.  Seemed to only last while I was drinking it though, so will mix another one before I head off to bed.  No one mentioned how much or how often I should do,this!
MARYANN, I think today has been the worse of all, so I am hopeful it has to be better tomorrow.  Feeling like a Mack truck has run over me is a good description!
LARRY, how sad and frightening that the home next to Scott’s has burned down.  Glad he had no other damages other than smoke and the fence.  Glad you appointment went well and your battery is good for a good time longer.  I paid attention to your comment that I am suppose to be getting better NOT worse!  I will do my best to cooperate!  I am SO ready.  So sore from coughing and sadly my throat is as sore tonight as it was when this whole ordeal started!  Very discouraging!
GLORIA de, I am doing the “potion”, and tonight I will slather the Vick’s on my feet!  Can you tell I am getting desperate to get over this BUG?  I enjoyed your “I’ve Learned”!  Thank you.
GLORIA, thank for sharing the info about the SS.  Sad that people have to try to take advantage of us and sadly a lot of people will fall for it.
Thank you, AMY, I do hope to feel better in spite of that hour of sleep I am going to miss tonight.
Pleasant dreams to all.
Good morning , Amy, Lloyd and all the friends who follow.
Amy, I was in the same boat as you......woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. And, I am sure a nap for follow after I eat breakfast.  I usually read for a while after I eat, and that is when I get so sleepy,
We will have an hour longer of daylight for the next 8 or so months.   I, for one, love our Daylight Savings Time....  so nice to be able to sit out in the evening. I think it was Jenny who mentioned something the other day that she didn't know anybody who liked the change in time.  But, I am one who loves it.  I have heard from some people that they wished  the "powers that be"  would just leave the time changing alone.  I don't mind having to change the clocks just twice a year.  I guess it would be nice to have the Daylight Savings Time all year long, tho.  But, that is just my own opinion.  Lol
Although that won't happen for a while yet.  They are predicting possibly some snow, colder temperatures and then turning to rain for the next day or so.  Hopefully,  it will  stay further south of where I am.  I am so tired of this cold weather.  Come on, Spring.
Jenny, I did want to mention that I am sorry that you are still feeling so bad.  That coughing seems to be the main complaint from everyone who has been sick this winter.  My DIL has been coughing now for several weeks.  She is a PT in a hospital and has had to wear a mask while at work.  She said that sometimes she has to leave the patient's room because of coughing so bad.  She said she feels fine, just gets to coughing now and then.  And,, nothing really seems to help. So, do hope that you will have a better day today,.
It is not yet light out, and I am getting hungry, so will go look for some breakfast,
Hope you and Lloyd and all the other friends will have a wonderful Sunday,
Joy
Good morning everyone, 27° hope no one forgot to change clocks last night. For the time I have been waking lately this morning instead of 4am I woke at 5am, still rather sleep later, days are so long waking at that time.
LARRY  I heard on the news last night that a RI team- don't remember if it is the URI Rams or Brown Bruins basketball team that won their game yesterday. Big deal here in little Rhode Island. Glad that tech yesterday explained so much to you about the pacemaker worked. Wish more techs and doctors explained what was going on for the patients to know and feel better about.
GLORIA de  seems as soon as something is changing the scammers are on it right away. If I do not know the number of anyone calling I do not answer the phone unless they start leaving a message on the machine. Most of those calls just hang up. For a few years before I smartened up I would answer and someone would say they were from Microsoft and while checking computers they found something wrong with mine and wanted to fix it from there. I told them I did not have a computer and hang up. Who could believe that Microsoft could check millions of computers and know our phone numbers. Odd that most of those callers have an accent, too.  I have copied your I've Learned post. That is a good one, thanks.
MARY ANN  before TV and all the news from the world mostly bad I think there are many copycat jerks who want that 15 minutes of fame. Some are tired of living and want to be killed by a policeman. Personally I think if they talked more about good things people would be better off. Then again we have those video games that kids watch that are full of violence and in the movies or TV there is more of it. Remember when movies were real entertainment and we felt good after seeing them? Like you I have a hard time drying off after a shower. My CNAs could help me with that but I cannot wait till they get here around noon to take a shower. I use my left hand to hold up my right arm to even comb my hair.  No wonder I like to keep it really short now. I always use notepad to type on and then copy/paste to the reply box.
JUNE  I pray you are feeling much better today. Please be careful and keep your rollator close and use it even for 2 steps.
JANE  what a let down for your son and his team. Close score and those last 10 seconds were a disappointment for them. Still they should be proud of themselves.
JENNY  glad that mix felt good while drinking it. Have no idea how often gut as long as you do not get drunk go for it. I am sure there is not that much bourbon in the drink. What gets me is they are finally taking our SS numbers off of that card and other places are taking it off now, too. By now what was supposed to be our private number is out there for every one who wants to steal it.
LLOYD  good luck with that new bull.
AMY  seems like the last few weeks I wake between 3 to 5 every morning. Heck I am retired now so should be able to sleep later. No matter the time I go to bed that is when I wake.
JANE  have a great day.
JOY  I am one who wishes they would set one time and leave it there. Like you I like the longer daylight at the end of the day.
A Simple Prayer
Today,
For what I am that I ought not to be,
Forgive me.
For what I am not that I ought to be,
Forgive me.
Be with my mouth in what it speaks
Be with my hands in what they do
Be with my mind in what it thinks
Be with my heart in what it feels
May I reflect You. Change me.
And work in me
...through me
...for me
...in spite of me
 Hi Everyone. The morning is started at in the mid-40's and will only get into the low 60's this afternoon and we have varying changes of rain until late this evening when as of now they are saying 100% chance of rain.  I did remember to reset the alarm clock last evening when I went to bed and then the clock on the stove and my wrist watch this morning.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church and think Pat will go with me today as she is up and eating her breakfast now. We will go out to eat afterward, probably back to Ruby Tuesday's as they had a good deal starting today and Monday.  Last evening we decided to go to Dairy Queen for our evening meal and it was good topped off with a mint Oreo Blizzard.  Then I was able to return the phone we had purchased there for Pat that didn't work well at all.  The Dairy Queen is on the outer property from the Walmart so it was very handy.  This afternoon I will rest and watch a little more basketball, which I watched quite a bit of yesterday.
I want to correct something I posted yesterday about the shooter in the California Veteran's Home.  I thought I had heard there were no casualties but learned yesterday that he had killed three of the women nurses or caregivers that had been in the unit he had been treated in for the PTSD.
deAngel, the man whose house burned down was apparently there but got out OK.  They have two children.  Unfortunately they had two dogs that didn't make it out of the fire.  My son parks his car close to the fence that burned but was there and moved it quickly to safety and apparently his home wasn't at risk.
Mary Ann, here is a link of a 5 minute answer the governor of Kentucky, Matt Blevins,  gave to someone who wants all guns confiscated.  I thought it hit the nail on the head about publicizing the shootings as they had one apparently recently that wasn't publicized. https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kentuckynewera.com%2Fmultimedia%2Fvideo%2Fnews%2Fyoutube_c2674705-960f-52ed-b8d8-9d2c34d514e4.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2ab16897fd1542fd56af08d584272a54%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636560226104602793&sdata=jAQ%2BLY5xO%2FsSqroBogrxCMBfICV8GBy8hMzPpsL%2BLoI%3D&reserved=0 (https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kentuckynewera.com%2Fmultimedia%2Fvideo%2Fnews%2Fyoutube_c2674705-960f-52ed-b8d8-9d2c34d514e4.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2ab16897fd1542fd56af08d584272a54%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636560226104602793&sdata=jAQ%2BLY5xO%2FsSqroBogrxCMBfICV8GBy8hMzPpsL%2BLoI%3D&reserved=0)
Callie, nice that you can play bridge at a restaurant as then you all get a good meal and no one has to be the hostess.  Glad your washing machine is now working fine.
June, it is a good thing that your son is alerted to the medical problems you have been encountered because you might not want to bother him and he needs to know.
Jane, that must have been an exciting game.  No shame is such a loss and tears just show how much they put into the game.  One of the men's games I watched yesterday was very close and one of the men whose team lost was in tears for quite awhile.
Jenny, I was wondering about the portion one should fix for a sore throat.  I mentioned to Pat yesterday I thought I would buy a small bottle of Bourbon to put away to use for such occasions.  Sue hope today finds you feeling better.
Lloyd, it doesn't sound like you are making any progress in selling your farm and taking life easier.  I hope that was a good investment.
Amy, does Canada participate in Day Light Savings?
Joy, I don't like to get up much before 6:30 and this morning I noticed that shortly after that it was beginning to lighten up outside.  So it shouldn't be long before it will be daylight at that time and earlier.  I sometimes will get up in the middle of the night and then have trouble getting back to sleep.  I find that putting on my audiobook using my earphones will usually put me to sleep.  I set a time on it for 15 minutes so don't have to scroll back too far to find where I was when I drifted off.
Gloria, I hope I get the same tech on my next visit for the pacemaker check.  My cardiologist is now in private practice and doesn't seem to have to rush now that she isn't controlled by the hospital rules.  She stays in the patient room and dictates her notes on the visit and then these are made available in the papers the patient gets when they leave.  She also takes time to explain things to you.   I wish my wife would quit putting in the curling things in her hair as it is hard on her and just use a natural style as it looks fine.  However, she doesn't agree with me.
For everyone with pets!
"Pet Foods Recalled, Contaminated With a Drug Used for Euthanasia"
"While pentobarbital is one of many chemical sedatives used by veterinarians to euthanize animals, the FDA's investigation concluded that trace amounts of the drug wouldn't necessarily cause immediate harm to pets. That's not the case when the drug's quantity is increased, however.
"Pets that eat pet food containing pentobarbital can experience drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea, nystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner) and inability to stand. Consuming high levels of pentobarbital can cause coma and death," the FDA's report said."
"After an investigation by an ABC affiliate in Washington DC uncovered trace amounts of pentobarbital (a drug used as a sedative when euthanizing animals) in four different national pet food brands, the Food and Drug Administration launched an inquiry. Shortly after, the pet food brands' parent company, Smuckers, announced a voluntary recall for all of the foods in question.
The recall includes dog foods and treats that you probably recognize: Gravy Train, Kibbles 'N Bits, Skippy, and Ol' Roy brands. The products affected by pentobarbital were distributed nationwide by Big Heart Pet Brands, available to all independently owned pet stores as well as a few big-box retailers. The Ol' Roy dog food, however, was exclusively sold by Walmart in more than 4,700 of its stores, according to the FDA's recall notice."
Patricia, thank you for the heads up..
Larry, yes we do have daylight savings. I wish they would leave it one way or the other . My senior left his clocks on standard time but warned everyone about the time in his house. I am glad no harm came to Scott's home.
The day sped by, I still have that one quilt to finish but need to be on the ball for that one. Instead I cut out another and it will be a camp quilt for kids. The fabric has brightly coloured frogs and dragon flies on it.
A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.
I MIGHT be a bit better today......still sneezing like crazy and of course coughing.  One thing everyone seems to agree on is this bug last a long time and the only ones that seem to escape it are the ones that have been to a doctor and started on a Z-pac!  I will see how I am tomorrow.  One would think a doc would not want you to come in their office and spread your germs around....but it is hard to diagnose with out being seen.
Oh my, LLOYD.  Just when we think you are getting closer to selling out to retire you go and buy yourself a bull!  He sounds like a doozie....
ANGELFACE, how scary about the dog foods.  Seems we are reading more and more serious issues with pet food.  Thank you for sharing.
Even though the “potion” of bourbon, honey and lemon tasted good to me and cleared me up for a bit, the effect did not last long.  Maybe the hope is that you drink a lot of it, pass out, and therefore are out of misery for awhile!  Think?  😱🤪
LARRY, I always feel bad for the neighborhood as well as the poor people that are burned out as they have to deal with the mess for quite sometime as well.  Very sorry to read about the doggies loosing their life...so sad.
Hahaha, JOY!  I have taken note to the fact that I DO know ONE person that likes or at least does not mind day light savings time!  😍
Honestly, I really do not mind it as much as I just see no value in it.  Like the old Indian man said....”only in American do we think that if we cut one end off of a blanket and sew it on the other end, would we think the blanket will be longer”!!
GLORIA, thinking about you and hoping you are up and running with the antenna.
AMY, you are quite something.....starting more quilts...they do sound cute!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Good  Sunday afternoon my friends. I have had a slow day, but glad to be here.
Jenny, I think I had your ailment back in January. The cough was uncontrollable even with vicks on my feet. I found that breathing under my covers helped me. The moist warm air was soothing. The clinic here gave me cough syrup. My cough came from my lungs not my throat. Sucking on lemon flavored drops was spicy enough to help with the breathing, but I remembered another one....Ricola drops.Great....they have what I taste is menthol. And i was coughing up sticky stuff to, so they now give me some nose drops that causes the lung junk to come out of the nose rather than the throat. Vicks menthol drops worked well too.
I'm still feeling pretty droopy, so doing a lot of reading and napping. I am going to make an effort to go down for supper tonight. I have been eating at home since my last fainting spell. I know now that it is my heart...it is not pumping enough blood to the brain, hence the fainting. Now I wondering is the peripheral arterial disease is connected to this problem also. The body is a marvelous instrument, and I like learning as much as  possible.
Lloyd you really surprised me purchasing that Black Angus Bull.. so now instead of downsizing you are going to raise more cattle ???????
Larry, I think it is part of the ruling here that the family is notified of any health changes in it's clients. They evidently don't want any surprise deaths or hospitalizations. I'm happy you and your wife go out for meals as often as you do. It is healthful to be among others as well as enjoying food you didn't have to prepare and cleanup later.
Janie, I am so sorry the girls lost the game but they can be proud of the close margin. Losing can be a strengthening thing  too. It makes all of us more determined to try harder when we miss a goal of any type.
Time for book and a nap before dinner time rolls around. The days pass too quickly. June
Good night Everyfriend!  I'm tired and feeling a bit "puny" today.  Not exactly sick...just not quite well!  I had a lot planned and I didn't get most of it done.  I went to church and then came home and changed my clothes and those pesky zzzzs grabbed me.  They kept coming back and overcoming me.  Now I'm going to bed.  Sleep well my friends and greet tomorrow with new enthusiasm.  I'm going to try to do that!
Good morning everyone, 28°right now. I don't know what has happened to me this month, I seem to wake earlier every morning no matter how late I go to bed. It is not the time change either because this has been going on a couple of weeks now. I fall asleep fast and seldom had a night I cannot sleep. No noise wakes me because this place is quiet at night unless it is snowing and they start plowing or the rescue is called and then they do come in quiet with no horns but the flashing lights show on the sides of the shades. Looks like we are in for another nor'easter starting tonight and all day tomorrow. Guess my CNA will not make it tomorrow. I have told them before not to come if the roads are bad. Stay home. Listening to the news last night there was a fire in town that burned a house to the ground. It was on the street where my grandson and his family live, first thing I did was grab my address book to check his address, the fire was on the other end of the street.
LARRY  I always change my clocks early on the Saturday when we change the time. The time change has really never bothered me. I did not realize until yesterday that 2 local college basketball teams were in the playoffs. I don't follow any sports, just hear about it on the news. Thanks for that link. I agree with what that governor said. My daughter and I were talking about that a few days ago. I our so called entertainment and the media did not show so much about killings and sex our young people would not be exposed to all  of it. For years I used a curling iron on my hair every morning, wanted it loo before anyone could see me. Now I wash it dry it and brush/comb it. Looks OK to me.
LLOYD  like you I wish they would set the time to one or the other and leave it there, no more changing it twice a year. Our ancestors survived without it.
PATRICIA  maybe we should go back like we did years ago and feed our dogs table scraps.
AMY  hope you get that quilt finished this week.
JENNY  one lady here has a cold like that and when she leaves her apartment she wears a mask so she will not spread her germs. Still waiting for my son to come and attach the antenna. I know Sundays are family day for them.
JUNE  hope you made it down for supper last night. You are a people person and enjoy being with others so much.
JANE  I hope you woke feeling better this morning.
LLOYD  hope you got more z's
Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thanks for the good wishes, GLORIA.  I do feel better today...not 100% but better!
I have some plans and I hope I can make them happen.  We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies and then breakfast and I'll see if I can get started.  It's the starting that's hard.  It used to be the easy part!  I wonder if my self-starter is defective?  I wonder what the Dr. would say if I asked her that?
I think I'll go get a second cup of coffee and put a load of clothes in the washer.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!
I slept in, glad I didn't have somewhere to go this morning . Nothing on the agenda  today. Think it is a great day to clean out some cupboards and get that job done.
Jane happy to reads you are feeling a bit better, don't over do it today in what you tackle.
Gloria, I did finish the 4 patch quilt I started yesterday, tis an easy one to do. Now back to the one with many many pieces.
Lloyd, hope you found more sleep..
Now I had better put my running shoes on and get busy!
Enjoy your day everyone.
 Hi Everyone. I slept in this morning until almost 8 am.  It is a dark, cool and rainy morning with a 50% chance of more rain throughout the day.  I plan to just stay inside and have a restful day.  When I finish my normal readings and writing on the discussions I think it may be a good day to recheck and perhaps finish up my income taxes for last year.  Pat didn't go to Sunday School with me but I came home and got her and she went back to Church with me.  We then did go to Ruby Tuesday's again and had a nice lunch utilizing the coupon for the free hamburger which made a very reasonable lunch tab for two as it saved $10.
When we got home I laid down for a couple of hours but turned on the TV and watched the basketball games, which all seemed to be very close and very entertaining.  After those were over I turned on the golf and watched the conclusion of a good tournament.  Then I watched on Netflix a Barbra Streisand concert called Encore that she gave in Miami in 2016, which I really enjoyed.  I think that was the last touring concert she plans to ever do and she was 75 at the time. It was almost two hours long and while her voice isn't quite as good as it was 50 years ago it still is amazing and I really enjoyed it. Needless to say I didn't have any difficulty sleeping last night.
Lloyd, you got that right about wives getting their own way. I think the Daylight Savings was put in so that the business owners would have an additional hour of daylight to stay open.  I have had the same problem of the air hose popping out of the CPAP mask.  Hope you were able to get some additional sleep early this morning.
Amy, I have had clocks in cars that were not easy to change so would just leave them set and not change them.  However, my current cars are easy to set.  The Hyundia has a separate button for hours and minutes and I just had to punch it one time to move the hour up.  In the fall it is more punching to get back to the right hour.  Pat just bought some material squares that have frogs on them and she chuckles each time she sees it. It is nice to have a day with nothing on the schedule that controls how we spend our day.
Jenny, is Doctor Dave prohibited by medical ethics from prescribing for family members or is this a type problem something he couldn't treat.  I understand that the Z-Pacs probably need to be started early in disease to be real affective.  My son went immediately when he came down with the flu and was back to work in three days. I have no idea whether Scott's neighbor had fire insurance on his home or not as these are very old houses in his neighborhood although the one on the other side of my son is a brand new home.
June, the month I had the terrible cough my throat was never sore and I coughed up very little.  I have never had anything like it and have talked to several others who have had the same experience. It sounds terrible and just makes you feel awful and tired. I expect most facilities like yours as well as nursing homes follow the practice of notifying family members when there is a problem of some kind.  I know we had with my parents.
Jane, sorry to read that you were feeling puny yesterday. It sounds like sleep was what you needed.  You keep so busy that I am not surprised that occasionally your body tells you enough is enough and now rest me.
Gloria, I sure hope the nor'easter doesn't treat you too badly.   There were some really close and competitive college basketball games over the weekend with some really outstanding players.  I expect one day Pat will fix her hair as you do and it looks fine to me that way but guess it is not pleasing to her eye. On the farm I don't remember that we ever bought dog food as there were always enough scraps that they thrived.
About Daylight Saving Time....I always heard that it was done during the war so that the farmers had more hours to produce food for the military.  Maybe that was just someone's idea of why it was done.  I could never understand why they didn't switch it back if that was the reason.  Now I'm curious!
Jane, that is what I heard also.
You can add me to the list of liking daylight savings time.  I like having the extra light at night.  It has never bothered my "body clock".  Even when I worked and had to get up at 4:30AM which I had to do for 40+ years, when the alarm rang, I got up. Now that I can get up at anytime, the minute Cathie shuts the garage door, Duck (her Black Lab) comes in and bugs me to get up :).
well more daylight is ok on cold or bad days and you are not setting on the couch all day. but on good work days do not need more light. Just like today
we have been on the go all day long and are wore out still plenty day light left.
There is no DST in Arizona.  However, of two large reservations one has a change and one does not.  There are no street lights here except on the main roads so it is very dark.  We can check out stars and planets.
MaryAnn:  Cursor is a perfect name for the little devil.
Two sons and one DIL have fierce colds and our DIL had to take a plane trip yesterday but she was not contagious at this stage.
Thankful today - I was able to plant two sticky cactus (cacti is plural) in a clay pot without re-injuring my hand from the last prickly episode.
Good evening.  Same old, same old here....cold still hanging in here with vengeance.  I know I must be getting better but it is hard for me to tell.  😩
LARRY, Dr. Dave can prescribe meds for anyone, but I know he will not prescribe any pain meds for anyone other than his patients as that is a gray area.  I have not asked him if he thought I needed any, and he has not suggested any.  Unfortunately we have a family medical need that has been keeping him busy doing research, so I have not been the priority! 🤣   I do hope the neighbor to Scott has insurance on his home....it would be awful if he doesn’t and the mess remains there in the neighborhood.  Not only is it an eye sore but it smells!
Everyone that I have communicated with about the colds that everyone has seem to all have a bit different symptoms.  I have never been congested, but at times have sneezed my head off....yesterday was one of those days.  My throat was very sore the first couple of days then got better but off and on that has returned.  Today I seem to be tighter in my chest and can not cough as easily as I have been with results, and it really hurts to try as I am so sore for doing it for days.
JANE, happy to read you felt better this morning, and I hope that continues.  I feel bad for ANYONE with this bug and would not wish it on my worse enemy! 🤣
GLORIA, it is so sad to hear about a home fire and even worse when it is in your neighborhood.  Sounds like it was too close for comfort being in your grandsons neighborhood.  I do hope that storm you are expecting does not do too much damage....do not want you to loose your power!  After our nice conversation tonight, I am tempted to head out to a paint store and buy me some turpentine!  I just want to get over this bug!
Have a good evening.
Jenny
The amount of sunlight that we get daily,
year round no mater what the season,
is not determined by the if we celebrate
daylight savings time or not.
It is where we live on the Earth and
the placement of our EARTH in relation
to our SUN.
This was a day that sorta "was". I woke at 2:30 a.m. and could not go back to sleep, so got on the computer and solved a few problems. I think I stayed awake, but may have had a short nap, I just can't remember.
Anyway…..the day is drawing to a close. I did have a nice fun lunch with friends downstairs, took a longer walk that had me praying God would get me home before I passed out…..he did. This heart of mine is telling me I am living a new life style now, and I have some adjustments to make. This led me to a two hour nap, and here I am. Need to go down to check my mail box…which is just a short zip on the elevator, and return, then I will eat the other half of my turkey sandwich I had for lunch, plus some canned fruit and cottage cheese and that will be enough food for the day. We had no more rain..just clouds, but things are fresh and clean from the rain we had…..looking forward to some more.
Jenny, what cured my problem with the sneezing, mucus, and miseries is a nose spray called Flonase. It was recommended by my doctor and worked in one day. I'm still using it each morning the nurse brings it, but I think I have had enough, as my nose and throat are getting a bit dry. I intend to ask about quitting it now.
Janie, I find that self starters do get old. They still work, but I need to pump mine a bit more in the years that have passed. I'm grateful when I hear it click on and I can start my day.
Amy, isn't it a good feeling when you wake in the morning and realize you have a "free" day. Mine are pretty constant now, out of necessity dealing with an aging body,and I do appreciate each one. There is always a star in the sky, a soft breeze, the sound of people going to work, something to thank God for.
Sandy..good sensible article. The sun has more to do with our well being that we realize.
Time to heat up some supper. Hugs and Love, June
Thanks, CAROL, I'll watch for FedEx tomorrow so I can make use of the "get up and go" you're sending.
I did get some things done today.  I did 3 loads of wash, ran the dishwasher and then put the dishes away and picked up TLH after school.  I also disposed of my trash and paid my taxes.  So today was pretty productive.
And now I'm off to bed.  It's snowing and beginning to lay so I might have a problem getting to work in the morning.  Wish me luck!
Good morning everyone...
No new snow here and +16° F at the moment. Yesterday did not turn out as planned. Hubby looked bored so I asked if he would like to go for a drive and off we went. We enjoyed the day out visiting a little hamlet and had our lunch there as well. All in all a good day and it helped break up his day. He is so used to going all the time and I can only imagine how this new life is to him. When the summer comes we can pack a picnic lunch and go for drives.
I did get the binding done for the frog quilt and more blocks sewn on the other quilt.
Larry, I can't help but smile when working with this frog material, even when I was dealing with their cousin...and I was rippit.. rippit stiches out. Instead of sewing a row on the bottom ,I sewed it on the side!!
MaryTX, love the name of the lab......just like the one in the tv commercial..
Jenny , hope you feel a lot better today.
June, take it easy and go slow, no more falls for you. Do you use a rollator  or cane in your home?
Jane, you accomplished a lot yesterday!! Hope you didn't get a lot of snow.
Gloria, glad the fire was far enough away from your g/son..
Better get at the dust bunnies, VON will be coming today.
Good morning Everyfriend!  We got lucky!  It only snowed on the grass and the roads and paved areas are clear.  I wonder how He does that?  God works in mysterious ways...!
I'll be off to Wally World but not until 10 a.m.  It should be pretty busy by then because even if the schools are on a delay, the kids will all be in school and the Mommies will be shopping.  I wonder if this is food stamp Tuesday?
I have my ticket to fly to Texas to see the new baby at the end of April.  We are all waiting with bated breath for her arrival.  It seems her name will be Emma...old fashioned and definitely a girl's name.  I like it!  I also have my doggie sitter alerted and I'm going back with my daughter who is coming here for her best friend's wedding.  Then my granddaughter is going to Texas the next weekend and I'm coming back on the same flight she is.  She'll deliver me to my daughter in Maryland and that's the only thing to plan yet... how to get from there to here.  Today I'll put in for the time off and then I'm ready!
Lloyd, I'm sure WM can get along without me but I'm glad they don't have to find out today that they can.  Thanks for the advice!
I wish you all a great day!  Enjoy it!
 Hi Everyone.  It was 32 degrees when I got up and suppose to go on down to 30 around 8 am and then up to about 60 this afternoon.  However, we do expect wind with the clear skies.  We will have to leave the house fairly early this morning as Pat had a 10:00 am appointment at the hospital for a bone density test but realized last night that she had taken calcium at noon and then last evening and needed to be off of it 24 hours before the test.  So she has to call and cancel the test. She always takes her days medicine out of the daily pill book for the week and had picked up the wrong day's box.  We plan on eating our main meal out at noon today.   Nothing else on the schedule for the rest of the day.
Rather than work on my income tax yesterday I spent over an hour on FaceTime with my good friend from where I used to live and that was much more enjoyable than working on taxes. Last evening Pat ordered a rollator from Costco.  They had a nice one on sale that appears to have all the things she wanted.  They had it with a $25 off price.  She has realized that she needs to be using it when she is out of the house.
Jane, our discussion on Daylight Savings Time made me want to know more about it so did quick search on it and found some interesting information.  The idea was initially suggested by Benjamin Franklin but wasn't implemented until much later.  It is apparently practiced in many countries of the world as people like the extra daylight available in the evenings and some studies indicate it reduces electrical usage and reduces traffic accidents. Apparently studies show that a majority of folks like it. It sounds like you had a pretty productive day yesterday.  Glad to read your roads are clear this morning for your drive to work.  It sounds like you have a great plan for your trip and only have to do a one way airfare and not do that alone.
Mary, I think we soon adjust to an hour change.  When I worked I always set my alarm for around 5 or 5:30 depending on how far I had to drive to work.  I liked getting to work early and leaving early once we were allowed flex time.  It sounds like you still have an alarm clock disguising as a Black Lab.
Lloyd, I find that more daylight doesn't lessen the time I spend in my easy chair.  :)  I try to get done what is needed each day in the mornings so that I have the afternoon for resting and doing as little work as it possible.
Carol, your DIL having to fly with a bad cold must have been miserable.  I read that planes are really a bad place for germs.
Jenny, are you sure you don't have pneumonia as your cold and coughing has really been around a long time.  I just bet that Dr. Dave would be more than happy to check your lungs as that takes only a minute or two.
Sandy, interesting article on the amount of sunlight.
June, it sounds like you should shorten those longer walks as the walking is putting an additional strain on your heart.  Glad you were able to enjoy a lunch in the dining room with other folks.
Mary Ann, I will have to remember the "perpetual vacation" as that is a good explanation of what I do.
Amy, it is nice to have a spontaneous day occasionally.  Glad you and hubby were able to have an enjoyable drive and a good lunch out.
Today, Don and I will visit the VA for a walk-in appointment. I hope to get to a genealogy lecture this afternoon.  We shall see. He has signed us up for more lectures this fall so we will do the routine of driving home at the end of April.
Jane:  One of my Swedish grandmothers was named Emma - and she came to America from upper northern Sweden at the age of 19 - in charge of two younger brothers. If they have another girl, they can name her Lily - my other grandmother.   :)  Snow only on the grass - heaven!
Larry:  Taking a pill before a test can happen so easily.  It just seems that there are so many "reminders" to answer to these days.
I read that our brains need a full 7 hours of sleep and last night began to take the full sleeping pill instead of 1/2 pill.  I did sleep longer.  For decades, (try raising 4 children, work, and taking classes) I never slept even 6 hours a night.
My neighbor fell at the grocery store - she walked away from her cart and did not take her cane.  She is a sweet woman and lives alone - very independent so we are careful to not intrude but just check on her.
Good morning every one, well if you like getting snowed in I guess it is nice. They had said it would be a light snow fluffy snow but the trees are covered and the pine branches are bent down with the weight of it. The windows above the porch have snow up to them.  I can only look out my bedroom window, the one is here  the screen is covered with snow so is hard to see anything. The maintenance man is the only one who has been out so far. I woke at 2 this morning to the sound of him plowing the walkways and he has been out almost every half hour since.
JANE  my self starter ran away a long time ago. About the time my back started acting up.
AMY  have fun with the quilt with a million pieces.
LARRY  I never changed the clock in the last car I had. For 20 years it was an hour off part of the year. I am not happy with the way my hair looks but there is nothing else I can do. I sure cannot afford to go to a hairdresser every week to get it done.
JANE  like you I had heard the time change was to help farmers. They can only work in daylight hours anyway so why bother for the time change.
CAROL  at one time I had several cacti plants and when I had to put them in bigger pots I used tongs to handle them.
JENNY  like I said about that turpentine it was from what would have been my great grandmother, a full blooded American Indian.
JANE  I had a sister named Emma.
Directions to His Mansion Located on "Victory in Jesus Boulevard"
(Author Unknown)
1. Begin your journey by making a right turn onto "Believeth in Jesus Boulevard," also known as "John 3:16 Thoroughfare."
2. Continue traveling North, as you proceed through the green light, leading directly to "Jesus CHRISTreet."
3. From there, you must turn directly onto the "Bridge of Faith," which will pass over "Troubled Waters."
4. As you pass over "Troubled Waters," you will enter into the "Tunnel of Obedience," making a right turn onto "Keep Straight Road."
5. You are now on the "King's Highway," heading Northbound leading directly to "Heaven-Bound His Way."
6. Continue to travel North for three miles: one for "The Father," one for "The Son" and one for "The Holy GHOSTreet."
7. At the first exit, make an immediate right, entering onto "His Grace Boulevard."
8. From there, make another immediate right onto "Gospel of Light Lane."
9. As you continue traveling North, at the next intersection, make a right turn onto "Prayer Boulevard."
10. As you travel, you will undoubtedly end up on "Temptation Road." Do not, I repeat, DO NOT follow or yield any other vehicles while traveling upon this thoroughfare. Many travelers make this common mistake and end up on "Sidetracked Loop."
11. Be sure to avoid the intersecting "Sin Street," as it leads directly to a Dead End.
12. Pass by the following side streets: "Envy Drive," "Me First Lane," "Have It All Avenue," "Hypocrisy Street," "Gossiping Lane" and "Backbiting Boulevard," as each road is full of potholes and will force your journey to slow down.
13. As you proceed down "Long-Suffering Lane," "Persecution Boulevard" and "Trials and Tribulations Avenue," remember to keep your eyes on "The Prize Street," and you will avoid getting lost.
14. Without a doubt, if you follow these directions, your final destination will be "Streets of Gold" through "Victory in Jesus Boulevard!"
God bless each of you in your travels with our Lord Jesus Christ!
I'm home and I drew two long lane registers today so I'm also very tired.  CAROL, the self-starter worked fine this morning.  Now all I need is some of that stuff Shirley uses to keep going.  I wonder where she gets it?
LARRY, I was curious about DST yesterday too and I googled it.  I found out pretty much the same as you did but I was interested to learn that it was implemented in 1918 and 1919 and then dropped until the early 1930s.  I suppose we had enough trouble dealing with the Roaring 20S and all the gangsters to think about staying up later.
LARRY, I'm traveling round trip. The only part of my trip that's on the ground is from here to the airport and then back home from the airport.  Courtney's part is that she lives in Baltimore and will transport me from the airport to my daughter's home in Frederick, MD.
I'm going to do a crossword puzzle and then I'm going to succumb to the zzzzs that are floating around here.  I think a nap is in order.
GLORIA, I like your trip and it's definitely more than a vacation.  It's a life's aim to just stay on the road.
So far so good. We still have power and cable. They just broke into TV programs to report updates. We have 18 inches of snow and it is supposed to keep up a few more hours. Bigest snowfall at one time is several years. I keep waiting for some of the branches on the pine trees on the other side of the parking lot to break. The maintenance man is having a hard time keeping the walks clear. The plow has been here a couple of times. By the time he finished you could hardly tell he had plowed. If I had a camera I would have gone down on the porch to take pictures.  It is beautiful to see how the trees look.
JANE  that trip would be very hard to keep up.
Goodness no one but Jane has posted since this morning. Hope no one is snowed in with no power.
Hi, Hello Bubble...
This is Keith, Gloria Hanson's (Lindancer) Nephew.
She want's me to make a post to everyone. Telling them that
she is in the hospital after experiencing a mild heart attack.
Gloria is resting well and they are trying some new medications
to improve her condition. They will observe her for another 24
to 48 hours and if all goes well she will be coming home,
so that she can express herself to everyone directly...
Hope that this is the right way to get the post to everyone.
Thank you,
Keith
Gloria, I'm glad you are getting the snow instead of us.  We are getting flurries but nothing serious - yet.
Keith, thank you for the message from Gloria.  She has had too many of those heart attacks and I hope the doctors can find something to prevent them.
Please know that we are missing her and we hope she will be home soon.
I have been a bit preoccupied as my hubby is in surgery getting a melanoma removed from his forehead.  I am in the car waiting as I can not go in and sit in a waiting room with this cough I have.  When he was first told last Friday we were very concerned, but Dr. Dave got a copy of the pathology report yesterday and explained it better to us than the doctor did, so now we feel much better about it.  He does not want me to share this, but I want your thoughts and prayers, so I am.
GLORIA, I checked earlier and you had not posted, so I am sure glad to see you have now.  I talked to my Boston son and he said they can not see out of the windows at their home as the snow is caked on the screens and the snow is really coming down.  Stay safe and I hope the power stays on so you can be warm.
Thank you, KEITH, for keeping us informed about GLORIA de.  My thoughts and prayers are with her and I hope she does well on the new meds and will be able to get home soon.
Hoping I will see my hubby come out soon.
Take care everyone, especially those of you in the storm.
Keith,  thank you for the news about your dear aunt.  Good wishes to her/
Jenny,  hope Bob's surgery has gone well and that your cough is better.
Jane and Gloria,  you've had more than your share of snow!!!!
We've had at or below freezing temps the past few nights and the panhandle might have had snowflakes last night.
Pansies are still blooming and the Bradford Pear trees have blossomed.   However, yellow pollen from cedar trees is a real nuisance!     :tissue: ACHOO!!!
Keith:  Thank you for taking time to send a message on your aunt Gloria's condition.  We wish her a quick recover and send up prayers.
Jane:  Lily is such a lovely name - for a wonderful dog.
Gloria:  Colorado could use that heavy snow.  The powers in the state want to have winter Olympics - I say, you cannot count on the snow.  The powers are blind to reality anyway and usually financially benefit from any of their "ideas".
Jenny:  Bless Bob!  With all the good news about his skin cancer, it is a wonderful thing that it can be removed.  Hang in there!  No one promised us a smooth road in our lives.
Callie:  You have a pear tree?  I sure miss the one we had in our yard when I was growing-up.  Mom used to can a lot of pear and we would just climb the tree and eat one right there.
We have taken the bird feeder in the back yard down.  The javelina knocked it over and spilled seeds on the ground.  About two dozen quail are dancing in the desert right now and the other birds are baffled.  Don took a long walk after our time spent at the VA and we are just going to have a quiet evening. I left a long-winded lecture early - it was on genealogy.
Good Afternoon dear hearts. I had a good sleep last night,and this has been a nice quiet, comfortable day. Lots of clouds and a few drops of rain.
Amy, I have been using a rollator for years now, so they do not help me when I faint and fall. In fact twice the rollator has fallen on top of me. My falls are caused by the heart not sending enough blood to the brain. So it's a sort of no-win situation. I am not complaining..have had a fun, active life. Lots of dancing, singing, gardening having children and a good marriage. And now in a secure, caring care place, run by the Quakers. They accept all denominations, and we are treated with loving care.
Larry, I am so glad your wife is "knowing" that she needs a rollator. Too many folks go into denial and run into trouble. She is a wise lady. And you are a wise man, knowing that you need your rest too. You can get a carrier for the rollator that fastens to the bumper of your car so you don't have to fight to get it in the trunk, and I'm sure you know that You should not even try to be that strong. Investigate carriers  before you buy the rollator, so you will know what you need.
I think daylight savings time is dumb. I managed to change two clocks forward, the cell phone and computer change automatically.
You easterners are really having a snow storm back there. I have been through that type of weather...born and raised in Minnesota, so I know it is really treacherous, so keep safe my dear ones.
My prayers are with our dear Gloria de. and I am so thankful for her good nephew that is available to her. May God Bless them both.
I am all talked out, so will close for now and give all you "readers" a rest. I love you my friends. Keep well and healthy. We need one another,for sure. Jund
I need to wash the vehicles and clean the insides today..both are in need of a good thorough cleaning.
We did get a bit of snow but not enough to worry about, it is still snowing but it is very fine snow.
Now I really have to boogie and get things done.
Hope everyone has a great day
Amy, thank you, I'm here.  I had several folders (not on S&F) to visit and I leave this one until last because there usually is more to read.  But not this morning.
We don't have any new snow, and not much of the old snow, and radar shows us clear for a while.  Your area looks as if it is on the fringe of the snow which is heading east.
I've been working a bit on my income tax and I'll do more today.  I have no idea whether I'll pay or get a refund.  My unfixed income is rather up-and-down each year, so it's always a surprise.
Good morning everyone, don't know wht time the snow finally stopped but just heard on TV we ended with 27 inches in town, most in the state. This is a time I wish I had a camera to take pictures. It is a beautiful white world. All trees ad bushes are covered in snow and the sun shining on them makes them sparkle. The windows over the porch roof has snow about 1/4 of the way up it.
KEITH  thank you for letting us know about Gloria. I am glad you were there for her. My thoughts and prayers for her. She is a dear member of this cyber family of ours.
MARY ANN  I would have loved going out when it was snowing yesterday but with the rollator I was leary of walking on the walks here incase it was slippery. The maintenance man must have been wornout by the time he quit last night. He does a wonderful job keeping the walks and path incase the rescue truck has to come.
JENNY  I can only imagine how worried you are about Bob. I will add my prayers for him. Glad your son could rest your mind some. My DIL's Dad had some removed on his face at different times. He had a charter fishing boat for many years and he had light skin. He was in his late 90's when he died. I did post yester day we did not lose power or cable either. Best part was no witch was here either.
AMY  not even a blink in power of cable yesterday. The snow was pretty heavy too and the pine trees have branches bending to the ground with the weight of it. I kept thinking one of them would break.
CALLIE  it used to be snow fall of 14 inches and more was normal here. This is the most at one time is years, maybe since the blizzard in 1978. With that one storm we had 60 inches of it and huge drifts. I lived at the end of a dead end street and it was 5 days before a front end loader cleared to so we could get out.
CAROL  several years ago in Alaska they had to bring in snow for part of the Iditarod race. Who ever thought not enough snow there. I think Angelface could tell you more about that.
JUNE  lately people panic when snow is in the forecast and run to the store for that milk and bread and we end up with under 10 inches of it. Now the one we just had used to be normal when even my 3 were young. No plows back then either.
JANE  did you get snow from this lastest storm?
AMY I am here. Nothing here yesterday though.
MARY ANN  on this morning's forecast we have some snow for tomorrow Enough now.
No Larry this morning?
Gloria, on the Weather Channel they showed a picture of a street in Boston and I think it was snowing at the time, just beautiful with snow on the ground and on the trees lining the street.  I don't think we ever had 27 inches at one time, but we had blizzards in late January/early February in both 1977 and 1978.  I had to be shoveled out and fortunately my neighbor had a riding plow to get me out.  In 1978 someone had driven up our road so one vehicle could get out and there was little traffic for two cars to meet.  I walked the block to a main road where a company employee picked me up to take me to work.  Those were the days!  NOT!  I would not have wanted to walk in deep snow either, rollator or not.  I have had two snow falls, that anyone could have had, and I stay inside.  I let Tom get the mail, regardless of how late it might be.
 Hi Everyone.  We have a sunny and clear day ahead with it getting into the mid-50's.  We had freeze warnings out for our area last night but I don't think it got that cold.  Last evening Pat and I went back to iHop for our dinner meal.  I had a Belgian waffle with a scoop of ice cream on top rather than syrup (and it was delicious) along with two scrambled eggs and two sausage links.  The combination was very good and I will have that again.  Pat had a bowl of their chicken noodle soup and found it very good along with spicy chicken Quesadillas.  There is nothing on the schedule for today until this evening when we will be having our dinner at the Church and then Scott will be coming out.  Jennifer advised us yesterday that she was uncertain about being able to attend either the dinner or coming out later as she thinks she has another kidney stone.
Carol, I see the genealogy lecture wasn't pleasing and you were wise to get up and leave if you weren't enjoying it.  For many years my wife didn't sleep more than 5 or 6 hours a night.  However, she now is sleeping a lot in the afternoons and then having longer periods of sleep in the bed.
Gloria,  27 inches is a lot of snow storm and sure glad you don't have to get out in it. It sounds like your maintenance man had an almost impossible job and very little rest during the night.   However, it sounds like very few people would be able to get out until the roads are cleared.  At least this time of the year it shouldn't stay on the ground very long.  I liked the reading you included for yesterday. I am always amazed that someone can be that cleaver to put something like that together.
Jane, sorry to read you got long registers yesterday.  Interesting background on the DST you found.  I hadn't researched enough to know how long it had been used in the USA.  I misunderstood about your traveling plans.
Keith, thanks for giving us the information on our dear friend Gloria de.  She is keeping that hospital busy the last few months.  You are doing her a great service by staying with her and helping her.  Please keep us advised until she is back home and feeling up to being on the computer.  We care a lot about each other and many of us have known each other for a very long time.
Jenny, sorry to hear bout the melanoma on your husband's forehead.  Glad Dr. Dave was able to somewhat relieve your minds and hopefully they will be able to remove all of it with this procedure. Were they able to use the MOHs procedure?  I am glad you let us know and I will remember you all in my prayers
Amy, you did that quilt in quick time.  Was it a difficult pattern or did you just not like the pattern?
Callie, we have also had a couple of early mornings with frost and a light freeze.  I think our yellow pollen is about over and it really wasn't too bad this year as we had a couple of rains that I think helped rid the air of it.
June, always good to read that you have had a nice comfortable day.  I don't think I will have any difficulty putting Pat's rollator behind the seat as it apparently folds up to allow that.  It will weight only 17 pounds and I have no back problems so can lift for short periods of time without it seeming to tire me too much.  I remember that before we got the transport chair to use for Stacey that I had to lift an old heavy wheelchair into and out of the truck of the car and it must have weighed 40 or 50 pounds.  Thank you for the information about the attachment for the back of the car.  I doubt that I could use it and still get my car in the garage, which is a must.
Hello again everyone,
This is Keith, Well... I guess that I did something Right,
as you guy all answered with warm wishes for Gloria De
and it surely will perk her up if I can figure-out how to
show her your replies while she is still in the hospital.
I will try to do that today, March 14, before evening.
Gloria De is doing well & is giving me lots of good
instructions on how to use this site correctly to
communicate with all of you. I'm still a virgin to
this, at age 63 and I am amazed by all of your
deep friendships here. What a wonderful site.
Today Gloria De was informed by the doctors
that it is a good possibility, that she will be
coming home tomorrow (Thursday). They
gave her some new medications now and
will adjust the Meds as needed. So that
is why they want to keep her there to
observe her for another day before
letting her go home... but I think
it's because she is such a good
patient and so sweet that they
do not want to let her leave...
That's my Beautiful Aunt.
Best Regards to all...
Gloria D's Nephew,
Keith "Cheers"
Good morning.
WOW, GLORIA,  27 inches is a lot of snow!  Sure glad that you never lost your power.  Haha...no witch around!  I had pictures from our Boston Son this morning of the two boys with their snow shovels standing in very deep snow....it appears they got a similar amount as you did.  I could see the sun was shinning and it looked beautiful.  Thank you for your kind words.
LARRY, with melanoma they say they can’t use the MOHs.  He will have the basil cell one done next Wednesday and they will do MOHs on it.  The doc took out a large amount yesterday, but did not close it up.  She waits now for the pathology report and will take more if needed or will sew him up on next Tuesday.  We did not expect to have it be this long of time before we would know.....so he has a big wrap around his head.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
CAROL, you are right....taint fun dealing with all the stuff that life throws our way!
CALLIE, I love blossoming fruit trees....they are so pretty.  We had pear trees when I was growing up, and my mom would can them....they were yummy.  Sorry you are dealing with that yellow dust from you cedar trees....now that we sure could live without!  My cold is somewhat better, but still coughing.  Thank you, and I appreciate your kind word for Bob.
AMY....AMY.... please do not let ANY grass grow under your feet today, as you might not be able to accomplish all of your planned tasks! 🤪🤪. You are quite the inspiration, lady!  Thank you for your kind words and prayers.
JANE,I hope your day at work is easier than yesterday.
Thinking about you, GLORIA de, and praying you are resting easy this morning and feeling stronger.
JUNE, I hope your day has started off well and you will enjoy the day.
Sunshine and warmer temps today, so I hope to get out and soak up as much vitamin D as I can!
THANK YOU, KEITH for the update on Gloria.
Have a great day, EVERYFRIEND!
Jenny, if I let the grass grow I would only have to mow it!!! :2funny:
I did get both vehicles washed, dried and tidied up...having two dogs that always love to go can make a vehicle hairy!
Larry, the nesting of the seams were a problem on this one. Pat can explain how we like to have all the seams nest right. I have 3  kits coming to me on Fri so I am not sure if I shall start another quilt today or just tidy up my sewing room. Mercy it is a mess!!!
Keith, you are doing fantastic  on the site and you just may want to join us if you have time. Give Gloria de a BIG hug from us all please.
Need a cup of tea.....
Keith, thank you so much for your message.  You are doing fine in posting the messages - keep them coming.  It is so good to hear Gloria may go home tomorrow.  She's quite a trouper.  Give Gloria my love and best wishes.
Jenny, I did not realize how serious Bob's skin cancer was.  I see I was very lucky with my skin cancer because the doctor could use the MOHS method.  I had the first two types of cancer and I can't remember the name of either type.  I hope all goes well.
I'm home and I'm tired.  I got a short register for the first half of my shift and one of the worst possible ones for Friday for the last half.  It was non-stop full cartloads but it did have a redeeming feature.  3 of my favorite customers came through my line and another couple came through who said, "We're going to look for you every time we shop".
Keith, I'm so glad to hear that Gloria de is getting such good treatment and so much love from you!  She's very special to all of us.
Jenny, I didn't realize that Bob's problem was so big either.  I must intensify my prayers on his behalf.  Tell him that we all care and are pulling for him.
Now I'm going to go check out the zzzzs.  Maybe I can absorb a few.
Good Afternoon,
Carol and Jenny,  Bradford Pear trees are decorative and do not have fruit that can be eaten. (I'm not sure they have any at all).  They have beautiful white blossoms in the spring and red leathery leaves in the Fall.
At one time, every unit in the complex had one in its front yard and another in the back.  Most of them have weakened over the years and have been replaced.
My son replaced the one in my front yard with a Cleveland Pear, which also blooms in the spring but isn't nearly as pretty.  He replaced the one in the back with a holly tree - shaped kind of like a Christmas tree - has shiny green leaves that stay green all year - and is a good hiding place for the birds that come to the feeder.   It would have red berries if the birds didn't eat them all.
This was "double meeting" day and I'm glad it was sunny and not-quite-as-cold.  Time to go down and get the mail and do my Recliner Radish thing for a while.
Hope Everyfriend Everywhere has had an Enjoyable Day.
/Keith, thank you so much for keeping us informed about out precious Gloria de. She is one special lady, as you know. And you are one special Nephew to her. I wish there were more caring young men like you in this world.
Larry, yes, putting the rollator behind the seat of the car will be much easier than in the trunk. I had forgotten you had handled your daughters wheel chair. You are a good man Larry, and I'm glad you and your wife go out for meals more frequently. You certainly deserve the ease of no cooking or clean up.
My son was here today to give us Bible studies. He is very popular and I am proud of his devotion. I came home after class only to find a workman shampooing my carpeting. No one had informed me this would be done, but it looks great. I had to stay out of the Apt. for a couple of hours, but no problem..went for lunch and some wandering of the grounds, then home to a nice long nap.
Jenny, my prayers are with you and Bob during this surgery. My Ed was prone to skin cancer and had special surgery on his temple. It took two hours of taking minute areas of skin till the doctor was content that it was clear. Both of us were worn out from the tension.
Tomorrow they are putting new lighting in our patio dining room downstairs, so we will have lunch and dinner brought to our rooms.That will be a pleasant change. I am getting lazier as each day passes. I must do a grocery order, so tomorrow would be a good day for it.
I found an easy way to boil eggs in the microwave so I will have a couple of eggs and toast for a llight supper tonight.  Had a big lunch downstairs, so the eggs will be just fine.
Gloria I have so enjoyed the description of your snow fall. Being a native born Minnesotan I could actually picture what you were seeing.A rare and beautiful scene.
Janie, I am sure you are having a good and well deserved rest after your busy day at WM. I wish I could work like that again, but my days of labor are definitely a thing of the past. Taking care of me is a full time job.
Time to go eat my boiled eggs and get ready for a quiet evening at home. Good night all and God Bless you. June
