June Drabek

Just popping in to say I read all your good and interesting posts. We are having an overcast day, and some actual drizzle came down this morning, but that was it.

Had a call from Gary. He and Dori were driving home from their two day retreat. He sounded great...rested. He said our clinic had called to tell him of my fall. No secrets at this place. I still feel tired, so am sticking close to home.

Keep well dear hearts. I love you all, and enjoy your posts. You make my day worthwhile. June

The Lady Dragons lost by one point in the last 10 seconds of the game.  It was a heartbreaker!  The girls all were teary as they went to the locker room and I think my son was, also.  He's proud of his girls and they work hard for him!

Now I'm going to goof off!  It's been an exciting day all round!  I wish you all a restful night and a day filled with love and care, tomorrow!

Oh JANE, I am sad to read The Lady Dragons lost and especially since  it was so close...it could have easily been a win for them.  I can only imagine how disappointed they were, but they can hold their heads high that they played this well.  I am sorry to read about your friend passing away.

CALLIE, sure glad the small leak did not turn into a big issue...I hope it is taken care of for good.

I mixed myself up the potion of lemon, honey and some bourbon.  It sure tasted good and cleared my head up for a bit...felt good on my throat to.  Seemed to only last while I was drinking it though, so will mix another one before I head off to bed.  No one mentioned how much or how often I should do,this!

MARYANN, I think today has been the worse of all, so I am hopeful it has to be better tomorrow.  Feeling like a Mack truck has run over me is a good description!

LARRY, how sad and frightening that the home next to Scott’s has burned down.  Glad he had no other damages other than smoke and the fence.  Glad you appointment went well and your battery is good for a good time longer.  I paid attention to your comment that I am suppose to be getting better NOT worse!  I will do my best to cooperate!  I am SO ready.  So sore from coughing and sadly my throat is as sore tonight as it was when this whole ordeal started!  Very discouraging!

GLORIA de, I am doing the “potion”, and tonight I will slather the Vick’s on my feet!  Can you tell I am getting desperate to get over this BUG?  I enjoyed your “I’ve Learned”!  Thank you.

GLORIA, thank for sharing the info about the SS.  Sad that people have to try to take advantage of us and sadly a lot of people will fall for it.

Thank you, AMY, I do hope to feel better in spite of that hour of sleep I am going to miss tonight.

Pleasant dreams to all.

good Morning everyone. hope you all have a good day. I had a strange happening last evening.  up popped Hal Kelley was trying to call me on Skype?

they process the meat and sell only to restaurant's and grocery stores.
that should help with the budget. top of the day to you all.

Good morning everyone..

Didn't want to get up this early but woke and can't get back to sleep. I see a cat nap in my future.

Jane, the girls tried so hard as did your son. They all should be proud of their accomplishments.

Jenny, hope you feel better, sounds like that cold is in for the long haul. Take care of yourself.

Lloyd, you Angus will through easy calves. They are small at birth but once they hit the ground they grow fast. I had a Black Angus as a 4 H calf.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thanks from the girls and Coach Phil for your condolances.  I'm sure they're happy for what they've done but it still hurts.

I'm off to church this morning.  I've missed a couple and I'm ready to get back.  We're waiting out the boinger for the doggies pill right now and I'm going to go get dressed while I wait.  Enjoy your day!

Good morning , Amy, Lloyd and all the friends who follow.

Amy, I was in the same boat as you......woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. And, I am sure a nap for follow after I eat breakfast.  I usually read for a while after I eat, and that is when I get so sleepy,

We will have an hour longer of daylight for the next 8 or so months.   I, for one, love our Daylight Savings Time....  so nice to be able to sit out in the evening. I think it was Jenny who mentioned something the other day that she didn't know anybody who liked the change in time.  But, I am one who loves it.  I have heard from some people that they wished  the "powers that be"  would just leave the time changing alone.  I don't mind having to change the clocks just twice a year.  I guess it would be nice to have the Daylight Savings Time all year long, tho.  But, that is just my own opinion.  Lol

Although that won't happen for a while yet.  They are predicting possibly some snow, colder temperatures and then turning to rain for the next day or so.  Hopefully,  it will  stay further south of where I am.  I am so tired of this cold weather.  Come on, Spring.

Jenny, I did want to mention that I am sorry that you are still feeling so bad.  That coughing seems to be the main complaint from everyone who has been sick this winter.  My DIL has been coughing now for several weeks.  She is a PT in a hospital and has had to wear a mask while at work.  She said that sometimes she has to leave the patient's room because of coughing so bad.  She said she feels fine, just gets to coughing now and then.  And,, nothing really seems to help. So, do hope that you will have a better day today,.

It is not yet light out, and I am getting hungry, so will go look for some breakfast,

Hope you and Lloyd and all the other friends will have a wonderful Sunday,

Good morning everyone, 27° hope no one forgot to change clocks last night. For the time I have been waking lately this morning instead of 4am I woke at 5am, still rather sleep later, days are so long waking at that time.

LARRY  I heard on the news last night that a RI team- don't remember if it is the URI Rams or Brown Bruins basketball team that won their game yesterday. Big deal here in little Rhode Island. Glad that tech yesterday explained so much to you about the pacemaker worked. Wish more techs and doctors explained what was going on for the patients to know and feel better about.

GLORIA de  seems as soon as something is changing the scammers are on it right away. If I do not know the number of anyone calling I do not answer the phone unless they start leaving a message on the machine. Most of those calls just hang up. For a few years before I smartened up I would answer and someone would say they were from Microsoft and while checking computers they found something wrong with mine and wanted to fix it from there. I told them I did not have a computer and hang up. Who could believe that Microsoft could check millions of computers and know our phone numbers. Odd that most of those callers have an accent, too.  I have copied your I've Learned post. That is a good one, thanks.

MARY ANN  before TV and all the news from the world mostly bad I think there are many copycat jerks who want that 15 minutes of fame. Some are tired of living and want to be killed by a policeman. Personally I think if they talked more about good things people would be better off. Then again we have those video games that kids watch that are full of violence and in the movies or TV there is more of it. Remember when movies were real entertainment and we felt good after seeing them? Like you I have a hard time drying off after a shower. My CNAs could help me with that but I cannot wait till they get here around noon to take a shower. I use my left hand to hold up my right arm to even comb my hair.  No wonder I like to keep it really short now. I always use notepad to type on and then copy/paste to the reply box.

JUNE  I pray you are feeling much better today. Please be careful and keep your rollator close and use it even for 2 steps.

JANE  what a let down for your son and his team. Close score and those last 10 seconds were a disappointment for them. Still they should be proud of themselves.

JENNY  glad that mix felt good while drinking it. Have no idea how often gut as long as you do not get drunk go for it. I am sure there is not that much bourbon in the drink. What gets me is they are finally taking our SS numbers off of that card and other places are taking it off now, too. By now what was supposed to be our private number is out there for every one who wants to steal it.

LLOYD  good luck with that new bull.

AMY  seems like the last few weeks I wake between 3 to 5 every morning. Heck I am retired now so should be able to sleep later. No matter the time I go to bed that is when I wake.

JANE  have a great day.

JOY  I am one who wishes they would set one time and leave it there. Like you I like the longer daylight at the end of the day.

I'm so glad I'm in Israel for the time change. It hasn't affected me at all, I guess because I haven't quite got over jet lag. The clocks change on March 23 in Israel.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone. The morning is started at in the mid-40's and will only get into the low 60's this afternoon and we have varying changes of rain until late this evening when as of now they are saying 100% chance of rain.  I did remember to reset the alarm clock last evening when I went to bed and then the clock on the stove and my wrist watch this morning.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church and think Pat will go with me today as she is up and eating her breakfast now. We will go out to eat afterward, probably back to Ruby Tuesday's as they had a good deal starting today and Monday.  Last evening we decided to go to Dairy Queen for our evening meal and it was good topped off with a mint Oreo Blizzard.  Then I was able to return the phone we had purchased there for Pat that didn't work well at all.  The Dairy Queen is on the outer property from the Walmart so it was very handy.  This afternoon I will rest and watch a little more basketball, which I watched quite a bit of yesterday.

I want to correct something I posted yesterday about the shooter in the California Veteran's Home.  I thought I had heard there were no casualties but learned yesterday that he had killed three of the women nurses or caregivers that had been in the unit he had been treated in for the PTSD.

deAngel, the man whose house burned down was apparently there but got out OK.  They have two children.  Unfortunately they had two dogs that didn't make it out of the fire.  My son parks his car close to the fence that burned but was there and moved it quickly to safety and apparently his home wasn't at risk.

Mary Ann, here is a link of a 5 minute answer the governor of Kentucky, Matt Blevins,  gave to someone who wants all guns confiscated.  I thought it hit the nail on the head about publicizing the shootings as they had one apparently recently that wasn't publicized. https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kentuckynewera.com%2Fmultimedia%2Fvideo%2Fnews%2Fyoutube_c2674705-960f-52ed-b8d8-9d2c34d514e4.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2ab16897fd1542fd56af08d584272a54%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636560226104602793&sdata=jAQ%2BLY5xO%2FsSqroBogrxCMBfICV8GBy8hMzPpsL%2BLoI%3D&reserved=0

Callie, nice that you can play bridge at a restaurant as then you all get a good meal and no one has to be the hostess.  Glad your washing machine is now working fine.

June, it is a good thing that your son is alerted to the medical problems you have been encountered because you might not want to bother him and he needs to know.

Jane, that must have been an exciting game.  No shame is such a loss and tears just show how much they put into the game.  One of the men's games I watched yesterday was very close and one of the men whose team lost was in tears for quite awhile.

Jenny, I was wondering about the portion one should fix for a sore throat.  I mentioned to Pat yesterday I thought I would buy a small bottle of Bourbon to put away to use for such occasions.  Sue hope today finds you feeling better.

Lloyd, it doesn't sound like you are making any progress in selling your farm and taking life easier.  I hope that was a good investment.

Amy, does Canada participate in Day Light Savings?

Joy, I don't like to get up much before 6:30 and this morning I noticed that shortly after that it was beginning to lighten up outside.  So it shouldn't be long before it will be daylight at that time and earlier.  I sometimes will get up in the middle of the night and then have trouble getting back to sleep.  I find that putting on my audiobook using my earphones will usually put me to sleep.  I set a time on it for 15 minutes so don't have to scroll back too far to find where I was when I drifted off.

Gloria, I hope I get the same tech on my next visit for the pacemaker check.  My cardiologist is now in private practice and doesn't seem to have to rush now that she isn't controlled by the hospital rules.  She stays in the patient room and dictates her notes on the visit and then these are made available in the papers the patient gets when they leave.  She also takes time to explain things to you.   I wish my wife would quit putting in the curling things in her hair as it is hard on her and just use a natural style as it looks fine.  However, she doesn't agree with me.

Lloyd Hammond

Joy I am with you on at least a book or a news Paper  I start reading one of them and my eyes go shut fast, but I can read on this computer and do some
better. now on daylight savings time we do not need it,AZ dose not use and a couple more states do not and they get along fine, there are more hours of daylight for work than my boddie can stand now. I will still Love you dear friend

For everyone with pets!

"Pet Foods Recalled, Contaminated With a Drug Used for Euthanasia"

"While pentobarbital is one of many chemical sedatives used by veterinarians to euthanize animals, the FDA's investigation concluded that trace amounts of the drug wouldn't necessarily cause immediate harm to pets. That's not the case when the drug's quantity is increased, however.

"Pets that eat pet food containing pentobarbital can experience drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea, nystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner) and inability to stand. Consuming high levels of pentobarbital can cause coma and death," the FDA's report said."

"After an investigation by an ABC affiliate in Washington DC uncovered trace amounts of pentobarbital (a drug used as a sedative when euthanizing animals) in four different national pet food brands, the Food and Drug Administration launched an inquiry. Shortly after, the pet food brands' parent company, Smuckers, announced a voluntary recall for all of the foods in question.

The recall includes dog foods and treats that you probably recognize: Gravy Train, Kibbles 'N Bits, Skippy, and Ol' Roy brands. The products affected by pentobarbital were distributed nationwide by Big Heart Pet Brands, available to all independently owned pet stores as well as a few big-box retailers. The Ol' Roy dog food, however, was exclusively sold by Walmart in more than 4,700 of its stores, according to the FDA's recall notice."

Patricia, thank you for the heads up..

Larry, yes we do have daylight savings. I wish they would leave it one way or the other . My senior left his clocks on standard time but warned everyone about the time in his house. I am glad no harm came to Scott's home.

The day sped by, I still have that one quilt to finish but need to be on the ball for that one. Instead I cut out another and it will be a camp quilt for kids. The fabric has brightly coloured frogs and dragon flies on it.

Denver

A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I MIGHT be a bit better today......still sneezing like crazy and of course coughing.  One thing everyone seems to agree on is this bug last a long time and the only ones that seem to escape it are the ones that have been to a doctor and started on a Z-pac!  I will see how I am tomorrow.  One would think a doc would not want you to come in their office and spread your germs around....but it is hard to diagnose with out being seen.

Oh my, LLOYD.  Just when we think you are getting closer to selling out to retire you go and buy yourself a bull!  He sounds like a doozie....

ANGELFACE, how scary about the dog foods.  Seems we are reading more and more serious issues with pet food.  Thank you for sharing.

Even though the “potion” of bourbon, honey and lemon tasted good to me and cleared me up for a bit, the effect did not last long.  Maybe the hope is that you drink a lot of it, pass out, and therefore are out of misery for awhile!  Think?  😱🤪

LARRY, I always feel bad for the neighborhood as well as the poor people that are burned out as they have to deal with the mess for quite sometime as well.  Very sorry to read about the doggies loosing their life...so sad.

Hahaha, JOY!  I have taken note to the fact that I DO know ONE person that likes or at least does not mind day light savings time!  😍
Honestly, I really do not mind it as much as I just see no value in it.  Like the old Indian man said....”only in American do we think that if we cut one end off of a blanket and sew it on the other end, would we think the blanket will be longer”!!

GLORIA, thinking about you and hoping you are up and running with the antenna.

AMY, you are quite something.....starting more quilts...they do sound cute!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Good  Sunday afternoon my friends. I have had a slow day, but glad to be here.

Jenny, I think I had your ailment back in January. The cough was uncontrollable even with vicks on my feet. I found that breathing under my covers helped me. The moist warm air was soothing. The clinic here gave me cough syrup. My cough came from my lungs not my throat. Sucking on lemon flavored drops was spicy enough to help with the breathing, but I remembered another one....Ricola drops.Great....they have what I taste is menthol. And i was coughing up sticky stuff to, so they now give me some nose drops that causes the lung junk to come out of the nose rather than the throat. Vicks menthol drops worked well too.

I'm still feeling pretty droopy, so doing a lot of reading and napping. I am going to make an effort to go down for supper tonight. I have been eating at home since my last fainting spell. I know now that it is my heart...it is not pumping enough blood to the brain, hence the fainting. Now I wondering is the peripheral arterial disease is connected to this problem also. The body is a marvelous instrument, and I like learning as much as  possible.

Lloyd you really surprised me purchasing that Black Angus Bull.. so now instead of downsizing you are going to raise more cattle ???????

Larry, I think it is part of the ruling here that the family is notified of any health changes in it's clients. They evidently don't want any surprise deaths or hospitalizations. I'm happy you and your wife go out for meals as often as you do. It is healthful to be among others as well as enjoying food you didn't have to prepare and cleanup later.

Janie, I am so sorry the girls lost the game but they can be proud of the close margin. Losing can be a strengthening thing  too. It makes all of us more determined to try harder when we miss a goal of any type.

Time for book and a nap before dinner time rolls around. The days pass too quickly. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good night Everyfriend!  I'm tired and feeling a bit "puny" today.  Not exactly sick...just not quite well!  I had a lot planned and I didn't get most of it done.  I went to church and then came home and changed my clothes and those pesky zzzzs grabbed me.  They kept coming back and overcoming me.  Now I'm going to bed.  Sleep well my friends and greet tomorrow with new enthusiasm.  I'm going to try to do that!

Good morning everyone, 28°right now. I don't know what has happened to me this month, I seem to wake earlier every morning no matter how late I go to bed. It is not the time change either because this has been going on a couple of weeks now. I fall asleep fast and seldom had a night I cannot sleep. No noise wakes me because this place is quiet at night unless it is snowing and they start plowing or the rescue is called and then they do come in quiet with no horns but the flashing lights show on the sides of the shades. Looks like we are in for another nor'easter starting tonight and all day tomorrow. Guess my CNA will not make it tomorrow. I have told them before not to come if the roads are bad. Stay home. Listening to the news last night there was a fire in town that burned a house to the ground. It was on the street where my grandson and his family live, first thing I did was grab my address book to check his address, the fire was on the other end of the street.

LARRY  I always change my clocks early on the Saturday when we change the time. The time change has really never bothered me. I did not realize until yesterday that 2 local college basketball teams were in the playoffs. I don't follow any sports, just hear about it on the news. Thanks for that link. I agree with what that governor said. My daughter and I were talking about that a few days ago. I our so called entertainment and the media did not show so much about killings and sex our young people would not be exposed to all  of it. For years I used a curling iron on my hair every morning, wanted it loo before anyone could see me. Now I wash it dry it and brush/comb it. Looks OK to me.

LLOYD  like you I wish they would set the time to one or the other and leave it there, no more changing it twice a year. Our ancestors survived without it.

PATRICIA  maybe we should go back like we did years ago and feed our dogs table scraps.

AMY  hope you get that quilt finished this week.

JENNY  one lady here has a cold like that and when she leaves her apartment she wears a mask so she will not spread her germs. Still waiting for my son to come and attach the antenna. I know Sundays are family day for them.

JUNE  hope you made it down for supper last night. You are a people person and enjoy being with others so much.

JANE  I hope you woke feeling better this morning.

LLOYD  hope you got more z's

I have some plans and I hope I can make them happen.  We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies and then breakfast and I'll see if I can get started.  It's the starting that's hard.  It used to be the easy part!  I wonder if my self-starter is defective?  I wonder what the Dr. would say if I asked her that?

I think I'll go get a second cup of coffee and put a load of clothes in the washer.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Hi Everyone. I slept in this morning until almost 8 am.  It is a dark, cool and rainy morning with a 50% chance of more rain throughout the day.  I plan to just stay inside and have a restful day.  When I finish my normal readings and writing on the discussions I think it may be a good day to recheck and perhaps finish up my income taxes for last year.  Pat didn't go to Sunday School with me but I came home and got her and she went back to Church with me.  We then did go to Ruby Tuesday's again and had a nice lunch utilizing the coupon for the free hamburger which made a very reasonable lunch tab for two as it saved $10.

When we got home I laid down for a couple of hours but turned on the TV and watched the basketball games, which all seemed to be very close and very entertaining.  After those were over I turned on the golf and watched the conclusion of a good tournament.  Then I watched on Netflix a Barbra Streisand concert called Encore that she gave in Miami in 2016, which I really enjoyed.  I think that was the last touring concert she plans to ever do and she was 75 at the time. It was almost two hours long and while her voice isn't quite as good as it was 50 years ago it still is amazing and I really enjoyed it. Needless to say I didn't have any difficulty sleeping last night.

Lloyd, you got that right about wives getting their own way. I think the Daylight Savings was put in so that the business owners would have an additional hour of daylight to stay open.  I have had the same problem of the air hose popping out of the CPAP mask.  Hope you were able to get some additional sleep early this morning.

Amy, I have had clocks in cars that were not easy to change so would just leave them set and not change them.  However, my current cars are easy to set.  The Hyundia has a separate button for hours and minutes and I just had to punch it one time to move the hour up.  In the fall it is more punching to get back to the right hour.  Pat just bought some material squares that have frogs on them and she chuckles each time she sees it. It is nice to have a day with nothing on the schedule that controls how we spend our day.

Jenny, is Doctor Dave prohibited by medical ethics from prescribing for family members or is this a type problem something he couldn't treat.  I understand that the Z-Pacs probably need to be started early in disease to be real affective.  My son went immediately when he came down with the flu and was back to work in three days. I have no idea whether Scott's neighbor had fire insurance on his home or not as these are very old houses in his neighborhood although the one on the other side of my son is a brand new home.

June, the month I had the terrible cough my throat was never sore and I coughed up very little.  I have never had anything like it and have talked to several others who have had the same experience. It sounds terrible and just makes you feel awful and tired. I expect most facilities like yours as well as nursing homes follow the practice of notifying family members when there is a problem of some kind.  I know we had with my parents.

Jane, sorry to read that you were feeling puny yesterday. It sounds like sleep was what you needed.  You keep so busy that I am not surprised that occasionally your body tells you enough is enough and now rest me.

Gloria, I sure hope the nor'easter doesn't treat you too badly.   There were some really close and competitive college basketball games over the weekend with some really outstanding players.  I expect one day Pat will fix her hair as you do and it looks fine to me that way but guess it is not pleasing to her eye. On the farm I don't remember that we ever bought dog food as there were always enough scraps that they thrived.

About Daylight Saving Time....I always heard that it was done during the war so that the farmers had more hours to produce food for the military.  Maybe that was just someone's idea of why it was done.  I could never understand why they didn't switch it back if that was the reason.  Now I'm curious!

Jane, that is what I heard also.

You can add me to the list of liking daylight savings time.  I like having the extra light at night.  It has never bothered my "body clock".  Even when I worked and had to get up at 4:30AM which I had to do for 40+ years, when the alarm rang, I got up. Now that I can get up at anytime, the minute Cathie shuts the garage door, Duck (her Black Lab) comes in and bugs me to get up :).

well more daylight is ok on cold or bad days and you are not setting on the couch all day. but on good work days do not need more light. Just like today
we have been on the go all day long and are wore out still plenty day light left.
Have a great day girls.

There is no DST in Arizona.  However, of two large reservations one has a change and one does not.  There are no street lights here except on the main roads so it is very dark.  We can check out stars and planets.

MaryAnn:  Cursor is a perfect name for the little devil.

Two sons and one DIL have fierce colds and our DIL had to take a plane trip yesterday but she was not contagious at this stage.

Thankful today - I was able to plant two sticky cactus (cacti is plural) in a clay pot without re-injuring my hand from the last prickly episode.

Jane:  Overnighting  some Get Up and Go to you!  Hang in there.

Denver

Good evening.  Same old, same old here....cold still hanging in here with vengeance.  I know I must be getting better but it is hard for me to tell.  😩

LARRY, Dr. Dave can prescribe meds for anyone, but I know he will not prescribe any pain meds for anyone other than his patients as that is a gray area.  I have not asked him if he thought I needed any, and he has not suggested any.  Unfortunately we have a family medical need that has been keeping him busy doing research, so I have not been the priority! 🤣   I do hope the neighbor to Scott has insurance on his home....it would be awful if he doesn’t and the mess remains there in the neighborhood.  Not only is it an eye sore but it smells!

Everyone that I have communicated with about the colds that everyone has seem to all have a bit different symptoms.  I have never been congested, but at times have sneezed my head off....yesterday was one of those days.  My throat was very sore the first couple of days then got better but off and on that has returned.  Today I seem to be tighter in my chest and can not cough as easily as I have been with results, and it really hurts to try as I am so sore for doing it for days.

JANE, happy to read you felt better this morning, and I hope that continues.  I feel bad for ANYONE with this bug and would not wish it on my worse enemy! 🤣

GLORIA, it is so sad to hear about a home fire and even worse when it is in your neighborhood.  Sounds like it was too close for comfort being in your grandsons neighborhood.  I do hope that storm you are expecting does not do too much damage....do not want you to loose your power!  After our nice conversation tonight, I am tempted to head out to a paint store and buy me some turpentine!  I just want to get over this bug!

Have a good evening.
