http://wxguys.ssec.wisc.edu/2013/10/28/what-determines-the-amount-of-daylight

The amount of sunlight that we get daily,
year round no mater what the season,
is not determined by the if we celebrate
daylight savings time or not.

It is where we live on the Earth and
the placement of our EARTH in relation
 to our SUN.

Click on the red above for a pretty good
explanation .....

Have a nice evening,  Everyone.

This was a day that sorta "was". I woke at 2:30 a.m. and could not go back to sleep, so got on the computer and solved a few problems. I think I stayed awake, but may have had a short nap, I just can't remember.

Anyway…..the day is drawing to a close. I did have a nice fun lunch with friends downstairs, took a longer walk that had me praying God would get me home before I passed out…..he did. This heart of mine is telling me I am living a new life style now, and I have some adjustments to make. This led me to a two hour nap, and here I am. Need to go down to check my mail box…which is just a short zip on the elevator, and return, then I will eat the other half of my turkey sandwich I had for lunch, plus some canned fruit and cottage cheese and that will be enough food for the day. We had no more rain..just clouds, but things are fresh and clean from the rain we had…..looking forward to some more.

Jenny, what cured my problem with the sneezing, mucus, and miseries is a nose spray called Flonase. It was recommended by my doctor and worked in one day. I'm still using it each morning the nurse brings it, but I think I have had enough, as my nose and throat are getting a bit dry. I intend to ask about quitting it now.

Janie, I find that self starters do get old. They still work, but I need to pump mine a bit more in the years that have passed. I'm grateful when I hear it click on and I can start my day.

Amy, isn't it a good feeling when you wake in the morning and realize you have a "free" day. Mine are pretty constant now, out of necessity dealing with an aging body, and I do appreciate each one. There is always a star in the sky, a soft breeze, the sound of people going to work, something to thank God for.

Sandy..good sensible article. The sun has more to do with our well being that we realize.

Time to heat up some supper. Hugs and Love, June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Thanks, CAROL, I'll watch for FedEx tomorrow so I can make use of the "get up and go" you're sending.

I did get some things done today.  I did 3 loads of wash, ran the dishwasher and then put the dishes away and picked up TLH after school.  I also disposed of my trash and paid my taxes.  So today was pretty productive.

And now I'm off to bed.  It's snowing and beginning to lay so I might have a problem getting to work in the morning.  Wish me luck!

Good morning everyone...

No new snow here and +16° F at the moment. Yesterday did not turn out as planned. Hubby looked bored so I asked if he would like to go for a drive and off we went. We enjoyed the day out visiting a little hamlet and had our lunch there as well. All in all a good day and it helped break up his day. He is so used to going all the time and I can only imagine how this new life is to him. When the summer comes we can pack a picnic lunch and go for drives.
I did get the binding done for the frog quilt and more blocks sewn on the other quilt.

Larry, I can't help but smile when working with this frog material, even when I was dealing with their cousin...and I was rippit.. rippit stiches out. Instead of sewing a row on the bottom ,I sewed it on the side!!

MaryTX, love the name of the lab......just like the one in the tv commercial..

Jenny , hope you feel a lot better today.
June, take it easy and go slow, no more falls for you. Do you use a rollator  or cane in your home?

Jane, you accomplished a lot yesterday!! Hope you didn't get a lot of snow.

Gloria, glad the fire was far enough away from your g/son..

Better get at the dust bunnies, VON will be coming today.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  We got lucky!  It only snowed on the grass and the roads and paved areas are clear.  I wonder how He does that?  God works in mysterious ways...!

I'll be off to Wally World but not until 10 a.m.  It should be pretty busy by then because even if the schools are on a delay, the kids will all be in school and the Mommies will be shopping.  I wonder if this is food stamp Tuesday?

I have my ticket to fly to Texas to see the new baby at the end of April.  We are all waiting with bated breath for her arrival.  It seems her name will be Emma...old fashioned and definitely a girl's name.  I like it!  I also have my doggie sitter alerted and I'm going back with my daughter who is coming here for her best friend's wedding.  Then my granddaughter is going to Texas the next weekend and I'm coming back on the same flight she is.  She'll deliver me to my daughter in Maryland and that's the only thing to plan yet... how to get from there to here.  Today I'll put in for the time off and then I'm ready!

Lloyd, I'm sure WM can get along without me but I'm glad they don't have to find out today that they can.  Thanks for the advice!

I wish you all a great day!  Enjoy it!

Hi Everyone.  It was 32 degrees when I got up and suppose to go on down to 30 around 8 am and then up to about 60 this afternoon.  However, we do expect wind with the clear skies.  We will have to leave the house fairly early this morning as Pat had a 10:00 am appointment at the hospital for a bone density test but realized last night that she had taken calcium at noon and then last evening and needed to be off of it 24 hours before the test.  So she has to call and cancel the test. She always takes her days medicine out of the daily pill book for the week and had picked up the wrong day's box.  We plan on eating our main meal out at noon today.   Nothing else on the schedule for the rest of the day.

Rather than work on my income tax yesterday I spent over an hour on FaceTime with my good friend from where I used to live and that was much more enjoyable than working on taxes. Last evening Pat ordered a rollator from Costco.  They had a nice one on sale that appears to have all the things she wanted.  They had it with a $25 off price.  She has realized that she needs to be using it when she is out of the house.

Jane, our discussion on Daylight Savings Time made me want to know more about it so did quick search on it and found some interesting information.  The idea was initially suggested by Benjamin Franklin but wasn't implemented until much later.  It is apparently practiced in many countries of the world as people like the extra daylight available in the evenings and some studies indicate it reduces electrical usage and reduces traffic accidents. Apparently studies show that a majority of folks like it. It sounds like you had a pretty productive day yesterday.  Glad to read your roads are clear this morning for your drive to work.  It sounds like you have a great plan for your trip and only have to do a one way airfare and not do that alone.

Mary, I think we soon adjust to an hour change.  When I worked I always set my alarm for around 5 or 5:30 depending on how far I had to drive to work.  I liked getting to work early and leaving early once we were allowed flex time.  It sounds like you still have an alarm clock disguising as a Black Lab.

Lloyd, I find that more daylight doesn't lessen the time I spend in my easy chair.  :)  I try to get done what is needed each day in the mornings so that I have the afternoon for resting and doing as little work as it possible.

Carol, your DIL having to fly with a bad cold must have been miserable.  I read that planes are really a bad place for germs.

Jenny, are you sure you don't have pneumonia as your cold and coughing has really been around a long time.  I just bet that Dr. Dave would be more than happy to check your lungs as that takes only a minute or two.

Sandy, interesting article on the amount of sunlight.

June, it sounds like you should shorten those longer walks as the walking is putting an additional strain on your heart.  Glad you were able to enjoy a lunch in the dining room with other folks.

Mary Ann, I will have to remember the "perpetual vacation" as that is a good explanation of what I do.

Amy, it is nice to have a spontaneous day occasionally.  Glad you and hubby were able to have an enjoyable drive and a good lunch out.

Today, Don and I will visit the VA for a walk-in appointment. I hope to get to a genealogy lecture this afternoon.  We shall see. He has signed us up for more lectures this fall so we will do the routine of driving home at the end of April.

Jane:  One of my Swedish grandmothers was named Emma - and she came to America from upper northern Sweden at the age of 19 - in charge of two younger brothers. If they have another girl, they can name her Lily - my other grandmother.   :)  Snow only on the grass - heaven!

Larry:  Taking a pill before a test can happen so easily.  It just seems that there are so many "reminders" to answer to these days.

I read that our brains need a full 7 hours of sleep and last night began to take the full sleeping pill instead of 1/2 pill.  I did sleep longer.  For decades, (try raising 4 children, work, and taking classes) I never slept even 6 hours a night.

My neighbor fell at the grocery store - she walked away from her cart and did not take her cane.  She is a sweet woman and lives alone - very independent so we are careful to not intrude but just check on her.

Good morning every one, well if you like getting snowed in I guess it is nice. They had said it would be a light snow fluffy snow but the trees are covered and the pine branches are bent down with the weight of it. The windows above the porch have snow up to them.  I can only look out my bedroom window, the one is here  the screen is covered with snow so is hard to see anything. The maintenance man is the only one who has been out so far. I woke at 2 this morning to the sound of him plowing the walkways and he has been out almost every half hour since.

JANE  my self starter ran away a long time ago. About the time my back started acting up.

AMY  have fun with the quilt with a million pieces.

LARRY  I never changed the clock in the last car I had. For 20 years it was an hour off part of the year. I am not happy with the way my hair looks but there is nothing else I can do. I sure cannot afford to go to a hairdresser every week to get it done.

JANE  like you I had heard the time change was to help farmers. They can only work in daylight hours anyway so why bother for the time change.

CAROL  at one time I had several cacti plants and when I had to put them in bigger pots I used tongs to handle them.

JENNY  like I said about that turpentine it was from what would have been my great grandmother, a full blooded American Indian.

JANE  I had a sister named Emma.

Directions to His Mansion Located on "Victory in Jesus Boulevard"
(Author Unknown)

1. Begin your journey by making a right turn onto "Believeth in Jesus Boulevard," also known as "John 3:16 Thoroughfare."

2. Continue traveling North, as you proceed through the green light, leading directly to "Jesus CHRISTreet."

3. From there, you must turn directly onto the "Bridge of Faith," which will pass over "Troubled Waters."

4. As you pass over "Troubled Waters," you will enter into the "Tunnel of Obedience," making a right turn onto "Keep Straight Road."

5. You are now on the "King's Highway," heading Northbound leading directly to "Heaven-Bound His Way."

6. Continue to travel North for three miles: one for "The Father," one for "The Son" and one for "The Holy GHOSTreet."

7. At the first exit, make an immediate right, entering onto "His Grace Boulevard."

8. From there, make another immediate right onto "Gospel of Light Lane."

9. As you continue traveling North, at the next intersection, make a right turn onto "Prayer Boulevard."

10. As you travel, you will undoubtedly end up on "Temptation Road." Do not, I repeat, DO NOT follow or yield any other vehicles while traveling upon this thoroughfare. Many travelers make this common mistake and end up on "Sidetracked Loop."

11. Be sure to avoid the intersecting "Sin Street," as it leads directly to a Dead End.

12. Pass by the following side streets: "Envy Drive," "Me First Lane," "Have It All Avenue," "Hypocrisy Street," "Gossiping Lane" and "Backbiting Boulevard," as each road is full of potholes and will force your journey to slow down.

13. As you proceed down "Long-Suffering Lane," "Persecution Boulevard" and "Trials and Tribulations Avenue," remember to keep your eyes on "The Prize Street," and you will avoid getting lost.

14. Without a doubt, if you follow these directions, your final destination will be "Streets of Gold" through "Victory in Jesus Boulevard!"

God bless each of you in your travels with our Lord Jesus Christ!

I'm home and I drew two long lane registers today so I'm also very tired.  CAROL, the self-starter worked fine this morning.  Now all I need is some of that stuff Shirley uses to keep going.  I wonder where she gets it?

LARRY, I was curious about DST yesterday too and I googled it.  I found out pretty much the same as you did but I was interested to learn that it was implemented in 1918 and 1919 and then dropped until the early 1930s.  I suppose we had enough trouble dealing with the Roaring 20S and all the gangsters to think about staying up later.

LARRY, I'm traveling round trip. The only part of my trip that's on the ground is from here to the airport and then back home from the airport.  Courtney's part is that she lives in Baltimore and will transport me from the airport to my daughter's home in Frederick, MD.

I'm going to do a crossword puzzle and then I'm going to succumb to the zzzzs that are floating around here.  I think a nap is in order.

GLORIA, I like your trip and it's definitely more than a vacation.  It's a life's aim to just stay on the road.

So far so good. We still have power and cable. They just broke into TV programs to report updates. We have 18 inches of snow and it is supposed to keep up a few more hours. Bigest snowfall at one time is several years. I keep waiting for some of the branches on the pine trees on the other side of the parking lot to break. The maintenance man is having a hard time keeping the walks clear. The plow has been here a couple of times. By the time he finished you could hardly tell he had plowed. If I had a camera I would have gone down on the porch to take pictures.  It is beautiful to see how the trees look.

JANE  that trip would be very hard to keep up.

Goodness no one but Jane has posted since this morning. Hope no one is snowed in with no power.

Another update we are now up to 20 inches of snow. Falling 2 to 3 inches an hour. Just a snowfall like we used to get years ago.

Hi, Hello Bubble...
This is Keith, Gloria Hanson's (Lindancer) Nephew.
She want's me to make a post to everyone. Telling them that
she is in the hospital after experiencing a mild heart attack.

Gloria is resting well and they are trying some new medications
to improve her condition. They will observe her for another 24
to 48 hours and if all goes well she will be coming home,
so that she can express herself to everyone directly...

Hope that this is the right way to get the post to everyone.
Thank you,
Keith

Gloria, I'm glad you are getting the snow instead of us.  We are getting flurries but nothing serious - yet.

Keith, thank you for the message from Gloria.  She has had too many of those heart attacks and I hope the doctors can find something to prevent them.

Please know that we are missing her and we hope she will be home soon.

I have been a bit preoccupied as my hubby is in surgery getting a melanoma removed from his forehead.  I am in the car waiting as I can not go in and sit in a waiting room with this cough I have.  When he was first told last Friday we were very concerned, but Dr. Dave got a copy of the pathology report yesterday and explained it better to us than the doctor did, so now we feel much better about it.  He does not want me to share this, but I want your thoughts and prayers, so I am.

GLORIA, I checked earlier and you had not posted, so I am sure glad to see you have now.  I talked to my Boston son and he said they can not see out of the windows at their home as the snow is caked on the screens and the snow is really coming down.  Stay safe and I hope the power stays on so you can be warm.

Thank you, KEITH, for keeping us informed about GLORIA de.  My thoughts and prayers are with her and I hope she does well on the new meds and will be able to get home soon.

Hoping I will see my hubby come out soon.

Take care everyone, especially those of you in the storm.

Keith,  thank you for the news about your dear aunt.  Good wishes to her/

Jenny,  hope Bob's surgery has gone well and that your cough is better.

Jane and Gloria,  you've had more than your share of snow!!!!

We've had at or below freezing temps the past few nights and the panhandle might have had snowflakes last night.
Pansies are still blooming and the Bradford Pear trees have blossomed.   However, yellow pollen from cedar trees is a real nuisance!     :tissue: ACHOO!!!

Keith:  Thank you for taking time to send a message on your aunt Gloria's condition.  We wish her a quick recover and send up prayers.

Jane:  Lily is such a lovely name - for a wonderful dog.

Gloria:  Colorado could use that heavy snow.  The powers in the state want to have winter Olympics - I say, you cannot count on the snow.  The powers are blind to reality anyway and usually financially benefit from any of their "ideas".

Jenny:  Bless Bob!  With all the good news about his skin cancer, it is a wonderful thing that it can be removed.  Hang in there!  No one promised us a smooth road in our lives.

Callie:  You have a pear tree?  I sure miss the one we had in our yard when I was growing-up.  Mom used to can a lot of pear and we would just climb the tree and eat one right there.

We have taken the bird feeder in the back yard down.  The javelina knocked it over and spilled seeds on the ground.  About two dozen quail are dancing in the desert right now and the other birds are baffled.  Don took a long walk after our time spent at the VA and we are just going to have a quiet evening. I left a long-winded lecture early - it was on genealogy.

Good Afternoon dear hearts. I had a good sleep last night, and this has been a nice quiet, comfortable day. Lots of clouds and a few drops of rain.

Amy, I have been using a rollator for years now, so they do not help me when I faint and fall. In fact twice the rollator has fallen on top of me. My falls are caused by the heart not sending enough blood to the brain. So it's a sort of no-win situation. I am not complaining..have had a fun, active life. Lots of dancing, singing, gardening having children and a good marriage. And now in a secure, caring care place, run by the Quakers. They accept all denominations, and we are treated with loving care.

Larry, I am so glad your wife is "knowing" that she needs a rollator. Too many folks go into denial and run into trouble. She is a wise lady. And you are a wise man, knowing that you need your rest too. You can get a carrier for the rollator that fastens to the bumper of your car so you don't have to fight to get it in the trunk, and I'm sure you know that You should not even try to be that strong. Investigate carriers  before you buy the rollator, so you will know what you need.

I think daylight savings time is dumb. I managed to change two clocks forward, the cell phone and computer change automatically.

You easterners are really having a snow storm back there. I have been through that type of weather...born and raised in Minnesota, so I know it is really treacherous, so keep safe my dear ones.

My prayers are with our dear Gloria de. and I am so thankful for her good nephew that is available to her. May God Bless them both.

I am all talked out, so will close for now and give all you "readers" a rest. I love you my friends. Keep well and healthy. We need one another, for sure. Jund
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning.
Where is everyone? I know I am late, I slept in again...getting to be a habit! Hope Gloria, Gloria de and Mary Ann are alright this morning.
I need to wash the vehicles and clean the insides today..both are in need of a good thorough cleaning.
We did get a bit of snow but not enough to worry about, it is still snowing but it is very fine snow.

Now I really have to boogie and get things done.

Hope everyone has a great day

Amy, thank you, I'm here.  I had several folders (not on S&F) to visit and I leave this one until last because there usually is more to read.  But not this morning.

We don't have any new snow, and not much of the old snow, and radar shows us clear for a while.  Your area looks as if it is on the fringe of the snow which is heading east.

I've been working a bit on my income tax and I'll do more today.  I have no idea whether I'll pay or get a refund.  My unfixed income is rather up-and-down each year, so it's always a surprise.

Good morning everyone, don't know wht time the snow finally stopped but just heard on TV we ended with 27 inches in town, most in the state. This is a time I wish I had a camera to take pictures. It is a beautiful white world. All trees ad bushes are covered in snow and the sun shining on them makes them sparkle. The windows over the porch roof has snow about 1/4 of the way up it.

KEITH  thank you for letting us know about Gloria. I am glad you were there for her. My thoughts and prayers for her. She is a dear member of this cyber family of ours.

MARY ANN  I would have loved going out when it was snowing yesterday but with the rollator I was leary of walking on the walks here incase it was slippery. The maintenance man must have been wornout by the time he quit last night. He does a wonderful job keeping the walks and path incase the rescue truck has to come.

JENNY  I can only imagine how worried you are about Bob. I will add my prayers for him. Glad your son could rest your mind some. My DIL's Dad had some removed on his face at different times. He had a charter fishing boat for many years and he had light skin. He was in his late 90's when he died. I did post yester day we did not lose power or cable either. Best part was no witch was here either.

AMY  not even a blink in power of cable yesterday. The snow was pretty heavy too and the pine trees have branches bending to the ground with the weight of it. I kept thinking one of them would break.

CALLIE  it used to be snow fall of 14 inches and more was normal here. This is the most at one time is years, maybe since the blizzard in 1978. With that one storm we had 60 inches of it and huge drifts. I lived at the end of a dead end street and it was 5 days before a front end loader cleared to so we could get out.

CAROL  several years ago in Alaska they had to bring in snow for part of the Iditarod race. Who ever thought not enough snow there. I think Angelface could tell you more about that.

JUNE  lately people panic when snow is in the forecast and run to the store for that milk and bread and we end up with under 10 inches of it. Now the one we just had used to be normal when even my 3 were young. No plows back then either.

JANE  did you get snow from this lastest storm?

AMY I am here. Nothing here yesterday though.

MARY ANN  on this morning's forecast we have some snow for tomorrow Enough now.

No Larry this morning?

Gloria, on the Weather Channel they showed a picture of a street in Boston and I think it was snowing at the time, just beautiful with snow on the ground and on the trees lining the street.  I don't think we ever had 27 inches at one time, but we had blizzards in late January/early February in both 1977 and 1978.  I had to be shoveled out and fortunately my neighbor had a riding plow to get me out.  In 1978 someone had driven up our road so one vehicle could get out and there was little traffic for two cars to meet.  I walked the block to a main road where a company employee picked me up to take me to work.  Those were the days!  NOT!  I would not have wanted to walk in deep snow either, rollator or not.  I have had two snow falls, that anyone could have had, and I stay inside.  I let Tom get the mail, regardless of how late it might be.

Hi Everyone.  We have a sunny and clear day ahead with it getting into the mid-50's.  We had freeze warnings out for our area last night but I don't think it got that cold.  Last evening Pat and I went back to iHop for our dinner meal.  I had a Belgian waffle with a scoop of ice cream on top rather than syrup (and it was delicious) along with two scrambled eggs and two sausage links.  The combination was very good and I will have that again.  Pat had a bowl of their chicken noodle soup and found it very good along with spicy chicken Quesadillas.  There is nothing on the schedule for today until this evening when we will be having our dinner at the Church and then Scott will be coming out.  Jennifer advised us yesterday that she was uncertain about being able to attend either the dinner or coming out later as she thinks she has another kidney stone.

Carol, I see the genealogy lecture wasn't pleasing and you were wise to get up and leave if you weren't enjoying it.  For many years my wife didn't sleep more than 5 or 6 hours a night.  However, she now is sleeping a lot in the afternoons and then having longer periods of sleep in the bed.

Gloria,  27 inches is a lot of snow storm and sure glad you don't have to get out in it. It sounds like your maintenance man had an almost impossible job and very little rest during the night.   However, it sounds like very few people would be able to get out until the roads are cleared.  At least this time of the year it shouldn't stay on the ground very long.  I liked the reading you included for yesterday. I am always amazed that someone can be that cleaver to put something like that together.

Jane, sorry to read you got long registers yesterday.  Interesting background on the DST you found.  I hadn't researched enough to know how long it had been used in the USA.  I misunderstood about your traveling plans.

Keith, thanks for giving us the information on our dear friend Gloria de.  She is keeping that hospital busy the last few months.  You are doing her a great service by staying with her and helping her.  Please keep us advised until she is back home and feeling up to being on the computer.  We care a lot about each other and many of us have known each other for a very long time.

Jenny, sorry to hear bout the melanoma on your husband's forehead.  Glad Dr. Dave was able to somewhat relieve your minds and hopefully they will be able to remove all of it with this procedure. Were they able to use the MOHs procedure?  I am glad you let us know and I will remember you all in my prayers

Amy, you did that quilt in quick time.  Was it a difficult pattern or did you just not like the pattern?

Callie, we have also had a couple of early mornings with frost and a light freeze.  I think our yellow pollen is about over and it really wasn't too bad this year as we had a couple of rains that I think helped rid the air of it.

June, always good to read that you have had a nice comfortable day.  I don't think I will have any difficulty putting Pat's rollator behind the seat as it apparently folds up to allow that.  It will weight only 17 pounds and I have no back problems so can lift for short periods of time without it seeming to tire me too much.  I remember that before we got the transport chair to use for Stacey that I had to lift an old heavy wheelchair into and out of the truck of the car and it must have weighed 40 or 50 pounds.  Thank you for the information about the attachment for the back of the car.  I doubt that I could use it and still get my car in the garage, which is a must.

Hello again everyone,
This is Keith, Well... I guess that I did something Right,
as you guy all answered with warm wishes for Gloria De
and it surely will perk her up if I can figure-out how to
show her your replies while she is still in the hospital.
I will try to do that today, March 14, before evening.

Gloria De is doing well & is giving me lots of good
instructions on how to use this site correctly to
communicate with all of you. I'm still a virgin to
this, at age 63 and I am amazed by all of your
deep friendships here. What a wonderful site.

Today Gloria De was informed by the doctors
that it is a good possibility, that she will be
coming home tomorrow (Thursday). They
gave her some new medications now and
will adjust the Meds as needed. So that
is why they want to keep her there to
observe her for another day before
letting her go home... but I think
it's because she is such a good
patient and so sweet that they
do not want to let her leave...
That's my Beautiful Aunt.
Best Regards to all...
Gloria D's Nephew,
Keith "Cheers"
