G'Morning all, awoke this morning to a small covering of snow !, did not like that one little bit ! but on the 7am news/forecast, they said it would all thaw by this evening, at least along the south coast!, then it should turn milder, again !, thank you Larry and Gloria for your comments about my Granddaughters paintings, she is not a professional artist but, i think a very talented amateur,  i used to encourage her a lot when she was student at college, but she chose another path, possibly a better one.
                                                                                      Cheers.  Roley :).

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it is going to be a very nice Sunday here in South Carolina with sun and getting up to about 75 degrees this afternoon.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church.  I have emptied the dish washer and in a few minutes will fix Pat's breakfast and my own.  Beyond Church and getting something out for lunch my only plan for the rest of the day is to watch some more of the basketball games.  I saw some really good ones yesterday as a number of the games were very close.  It was evening before I started feeling better yesterday and got up feeling OK this morning. However, I was able to finish up and file our income taxes yesterday.

As I am running out of time this morning I will not try to comment to everyone but have read all of the postings and hope all will have a nice Sunday.

Funny thing, Phyllis!  I was getting ready for bed last night and it dawned on me that I didn't remember seeing Phyllis post.  And there you are today!  I'm so happy to see you...and to see everyone else, too.

The spaghetti sauce was so good yesterday.  It's so much better when I make it with home canned or fresh foods!  I wish I could really have shared it with all of you.  I didn't make the noodles.  I got them at the Amish Store but they are the closest thing to my MIL's homemade noodles I've ever had!

Looks like it's time to scrounge up some lunch so I think I'll do that.  Back later to see what everyone got into today.

Bubble, I think I had an e-mail from Norm a while ago.  I think when some of those spams come, there is something different about the address, maybe the extension that calls our attention to it and realize it is a spam.  Thanks for the warning.

Bubble,  I've recently received e-mails from friends who have been deceased for so long that they're no longer on my e-mail contact list or in an on-line address book.
I can see a "preview" of the message without actually opening it and it's always been a weird link to "who-knows-what" but I can't tell where they're coming from.

Clouds are teasing this area with chances of rain.  Weather gurus say "maybe" severe.  I hope not.

Good afternoon everyone..

Poof went the day again. We went for a Sunday drive...thoroughly enjoying the day. Dogs were happy to tag along too. :)

Jane, the sauce would be better with all your home made goodies in it.

Shirley, Cas's birthday is the same day as  son David.

Lloyd, we still have a lot of snow  will have to wait till that goes before we see flowers and flowering trees. I love the lilacs when they bloom.

A lazy Sunday in Colorado.  The morning was bright and sunshiny, but soon the clouds moved in and the temperatures have dropped.  Snow is on the way. But will more than likely present as rai; first as it is not cold enough for snow.  Oh how we could use a good long and soaking rain.  I think I saw that our snow total for the year was just 19+ inches.  That is very concerning for the health of the trees and grasses.

Bob now shares my darn cold😩😖😭😡. I was hoping he would be spared! His body has enough healing to do with out this bug!  I thought I was turning the corner, but yesterday I felt like it was starting all over again.  My cough is getting looser, so that is a good sign.  Over two weeks of this is about to do me in!

Dr. Dave and Family left for a weeks vacation in Mexico this morning.  We are keeping their little Lola, the Doodle Dog.  She is such a sweet doggie, but my Smokey Cat does not like company.  He is all bent out of shape!

PHYLLIS, glad your taxes are done so you can join in more often.  It is always a relief when they are done.  My hubby does ours....thankfully, and I hope the day never comes whe; I have to be in charge!

JANE, your homemade spaghetti sauce sure sounds yummy....I have had no appetite at al” since getting this cold...nothing sounds or tastes good.

GLORIA, I just had a text from my Boston Son and he and the boys went to a parade today in a Irish Neighborhood....they were throwing candy, beads, potatoes and cabbage!  I asked him where the corned beef was but he said there was none of that being thrown.  I said they could knock someone out by throwing a cabbage at them!  He said it was cold there too.  Mama is traveling this week for work so she was not with them as they had dropped her off at the airport this morning.

JUNE, with the four sons I learned to be a pretty good nurse when needed.  Dr. Dave still laughs when i remind him of his asking me one day when he was little, “what makes you think a swish of this and a swish of that will make me feel any better”??  Changing this dressing for Bob is not fun for him or for me.  Unfortunately the wound is drying up and not looking that healthy any longer, in spite of me putting Aquafore on it t9 keep it moist, as suggested by Dr. Dave.  I bet that doc is going to have to do a lot of debreading and such before she can stitch it up..... i will never believe this wound being open for a week could possibly be a good idea.  GURRRR.  I hope your Sunday is going well for you.

I guess I will go fix us a bite to eat even though neither one of is is hungry...

Enjoy the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Good evening, been a cold and very windy day.  Would you believe, that we may have another Nor'easter Tuesday and Wed. of course I have a doctors appointment Wed.

Gloria, the only reason I will be able to get through March, is to know we are hopefully going into Spring.  Of course I guess you have the same forecast snow for the first day of spring. Fro St. Patrick Day, we had corn beef and cabbage. I set at the table and gave Keith instructions, on how to cook it in the crock pot. I told him I will teach him how to be a cook.  I think I only saw a doctor a couple of time growing upl. Mom was always ready with the musterole, iodine, macureacom (spell) and of course pour the peroxide on anything. Fullers earth was for a rash

Junee, good to see you posting.

Amy, when I was a kid, we always went for a Sunday drive, and be for we got home, we stopped for ice cream. Mellow roll, any one remember those cones?

Jenny, I know the days are not going to go fast enough till you can get to the doctors. Please watch out for those colds.

Gloria de, Thank you for the card you sent, but it did not open for me. I don't know what has happened...I belonged to Jackie Lawson for years, and now I cannot open what is sent to me. I so appreciate your thought though. And I am thanking God that you have yout nephew staying with you. I hope he can be permanent. I hate to think of you being all alone.

Jenny, I agree with you about that wound being left open that long. What does Dave think about it ? You are a good Nurse, and I can understand your expertise having raised four boys. I was such a rough and touble kid..always a bandage somewhere in the pictures we had. My brother was the opposite. I had this awful cough, sneezing, spitting up mucus, and my doctor had the folks here dose ne with Flonase...a nose spray...like a miracle it cleared everthing up. I'm still taking it, but switched to every other day. I stopped for three days and started the sneezing again, so went back to it. I kept track one day of how often  I sneezed and coughed and spit.....twelve times...so that's when the Flonase started.

I has turned overcast here.....hopefully we will get more rain.

Had a great chapel service today, it felt so good to be back again. Then went for a huge dinner, and slept the afternoon away. I hope I will sleep tonight.

Roley, your Grandaughter will always be an artist. People with that talent must retain it. My son was a commercial artist and made a good living doing it, and now he builds banjos, and they too are a work of art. He doesn't sell them, just enjoys the intricacies of making them.

It's past normal suppertime, so I had better get off the computer and fix something to eat. I am still so full from huge lunch, I am not hungry, but I will do somthing light. I have plenty of food on hand. If I don't get back to say goodnight, I will wish you all a God Blessed night right now. Keep well my hear hearts. I love you all. June

Winter doesn't want to let go here even though it is nearly Spring on the calendar.  It is chilly and rain is expected today but we need it so I won't complain.

Thanks, Jane, for thinking about me.  I think about all of you and check here everyday to make sure my friends are still with us but I don't always have time to post.

I hate doing the taxes, Jenny.  Tom always did them but now it is my job.  For a few years after he died I took them to a CPA but it irritated me that I did all the work of gathering information and deciding on whether standard or itemized deductions was better and traveling back and forth to their office with the information, and so on.  All they seemed to do was enter the info on a form and then charge me over 300.00 plus whatever taxes were owed.  Why was I paying them when I did all the work?!  So, now I do them.  I suppose when the time comes that I don't want to put myself through that anxiety I'll bite the bullet and go back to the CPA.

I watched some of the basketball over the weekend, Larry, but couldn't seem to get very interested so ended up either reading or watching movies on Netflix or Amazon.  Three of the four local teams that were in the tournament are now gone since UNC was eliminated last night.  Only Duke left to uphold the local pride....or interest.  My old Alma Mater, Kansas State, beat the Cinderella team, UMBC, yesterday.  I had mixed feelings.  I was pulling for K State but would have liked to see the Baltimore Co. kids go farther.

I forgot to wear green on St. Patrick's day but I did make a dinner of Bangers and Mash in honor of the day.  It was pretty good.

Back to the usual routine of doing laundry today so Life goes on.  Stay well, my friends

A  quick good morning to you, Amy and all the early morning friends.

Pretty sunshine is peeping out behind the trees, but our area is expecting more messy weather starting tonight for the next day or so.  The first day of spring will not be so "springy".  But, hopefully, it will not last too long.

I have an early appointment to get my hair cut, so I need to get myself moving along.

I will probably be back sometime during the day.  Meanwhile, enjoy your morning!

Good morning everyone. down in the teens again 18°. do not want to think of the windchill. We still have a storm coming in Wednesday into Thursday. Today I will take care  of the appointment I have for Thursday and reschedule. I would not even think of going out on the road when it was snowing anymore. I did not go outside at all yesterday. I looked out and saw 2 people talking and the wind was blowing the material on their pant legs like it was trying to tear it away. It sure was more than a light breeze.

SHIRLEY  you are fortunate that you can still do all you do. Getting so about all I am comfortable doing is sitting.

BUBBLE  terrible when we have to be so careful about our email these days.  The one from your own address from Japan must have been a shock. Wonder if those had a link in them for you to check.

PETER  glad your granddaughter  uses her talents as an artist.

PHYLLIS  always happy to see a post from you.

JANE  I never had and homemade or close to it pasta. One thing with home canned or frozen food is we know what is in it. About the only can foods I buy is tomatoes, then it is fresh or frozen. Even with frozen have to check where it comes from. I will not eat frozen food coming from China. Tje market I used to go to stuck me once and at home I checked and it said product of China. Threw it away.

AMY  after all the snow we had last week it is surprising how much the sun melted it this past week.

JENNY  every year Boston has a big St. Patrick's day parade. Glad your son and the boys enjoyed it. Looks like you better make a big pot of chicken soup.

GLORIA de  I have an appointment on Thursday
and I am going to reschedule it. Who knew we would get another nor'easter at this time and be this cold. Like you I don't think many in our generation saw a doctor, Mom's took care of us. Glad Keith came in here to let us know about you. I chuckled when he said he did not know about computers at his age. I never touched one till I was 70.

I was in a rush to get my power bill payment in the mail today. I pulled my car into the post office parking lot, hopped out, and started quickly walking towards the entrance. Then I saw something green on the sidewalk. I looked down and saw a hummingbird laying on the concrete with her wings spread out. She was breathing slowly in and out but not moving otherwise. I squatted down to take a closer look. She appeared more stunned than injured and I wondered if she had accidently flown into the clear glass window on the side of the building. I was sure of one thing, though. If she stayed where she was for much longer she was either going to be accidently stepped on or end up as dinner for a stray cat. Taking the tiny bird gently in my hand I lifted her up, carried her over to the green grass, and with a few kind words lay her down.

I hoped that the camouflage of the grass would give her time to recover and said a prayer to God for her safety. Then I left her and went into the post office. The next day I returned and checked the area around where I had left her. She was gone. I smiled and imagined her flying happily around and feasting at someone’s bird feeder. It felt good knowing that even if I hadn’t done much, I had done what I could.

So often the things we do seem so small. What we don’t realize, however, is that every single one of them is important in the eyes of God. Do what you can then to make this world a better place. Do what you can to share the love within you. It can be as simple as a prayer. It can be as little as a hug. It can be as tiny as a few coins offered to help another. It can be as small as a kind word, a smile, or a wave. It can be as itty bitty as helping a hummingbird off the sidewalk. In the eyes of Heaven they are all priceless, they are all powerful, and they are all eternal. In the eyes of God they are all beacons of the light in our souls and the love in our hearts.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The sun is shining and the sky is clear but it's COLD!  It was 23º when I got up and it's up to 31 right now looking at a high of mid 40s.  I guess that's about normal for March around here.

I made it to church yesterday but I almost turned around and came home.  I'm finding it very difficult to drive directly into the sun.  I told someone a while ago that I gave up night driving a couple years ago and now I don't drive East in the morning or West in the afternoon.  I'm still ok with North and South.  I asked the gal that schedules the Lectors if she would rather I'd resign that job since it's been necessary for me to back out at the last minute a couple of times this winter.  She said that she enjoys my readings and she'd rather I'd stay and that she'd give me her text number and if I have to turn around, I can text her and she'll find someone or do it herself.  So I'm still in on something I enjoy!

Don't know what I'll be up to today.  The only obligation is one I love...picking up TLH after school.  Other than that, there are lots of things to do.  I just have to see which ones I'll tolerate today.  I'm not worried about not making a decision.  I just found out from Reader's Digest that procrastination is a sign that a person is smart.  So there you are all you procrastinators!

Gloria your post about the hummingbird reminded me of a time in the past.
I walked in through the garage and there was  a hummingbird busing around an circles on a window glass. I walked over an gently gathered it in my hands it immediately flopped over laying still as if dead. in my hand. I walked out of the garage and opened my hand and it flew off fast. I felt very good. we are at 40º
light rain and calling for high of 44º today. I hope it stops for a bit so i wont melt while feeding the cows. you all know sugar melts HA HA HA. have a great day. I got one of those pop up like hall Kelley was trying to call me the other day after his Passing.

Hi Everyone.  I awoke to rain this morning and the weatherman is saying we may be in for some stormy weather soon.  I had a nice day yesterday.  Our Sunday School class has now donated $10,000 toward a needed new church bus.  We were $30 short and we agree to add the other $30 from our Sunshine Fund.  I enjoyed the afternoon and evening of basketball.  There were some good close games and some that were not close at all.  My agenda is clear for today.  I just discovered that our new Ring doorbell has been off line the last few day.  I am going to have to wait until Scott is here unless I can figure out how to remove it from the bracket that holds it.  I am not sure I am strong enough but probably just not doing something correctly.  I will see if I can find a video to show how to remove it.

Phyllis, a good feeling to get the taxes finished.  I filed mine on Saturday and then adjusted my withholdings. I would urge you to check into using Tax Act or TurboTax or one of the other on-line filing tax preparation programs.  I have used Tax Act for several years and it simply walks you through a series of steps and helps you know where to enter your data.  I was really shocked at what a terrible game UNC played last night and I am sure the fans were shocked as well.

Jane, it has been many years since tasting homemade spaghetti sauce.  Pat never got into caning and it has been many years since my mother had a garden and canned tomatoes.

Jenny, sorry to read that Bob now has your cold. I know he must be looking forward to tomorrow to get his incision closed up and get rid of that head bandage.  I seems that the colds and flu are lasting longer this year than some years past.  I hope you are not having a relapse. I would think throwing potatoes and cabbage in a parade could be a bit dangerous.

deAngel, my mother had those same remedies in the medicine cabinet.  I hadn't heard or thought of them in many years.

I haven't commented to everyone here today as this post is really long as it is.

I have no idea whether the following story is true but it is a very touching story. It is a little long but I found it worthwhile and I agree with the beginning that having a tissue handy is probably a good idea.

The Folded Napkin Story
"By A Truck Stop Owner"

If this doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet!

I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy. But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie.

He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade.

The ones who concerned me were the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded 'truck stop germ'; the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks...

I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.

After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers thought of him. He was like a 21-year-old in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and peppershaker was exactly in its place, not a breadcrumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table.

Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto his cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag.

If he thought a customer was watching, his brow would pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.

Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.

He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester getting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.

A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine.

Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news.

Bell Ringer, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table.

Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Bell Ringer a withering look.

He grinned. 'OK, Frannie , what was that all about?' he asked..

'We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay.'

'I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?'

Frannie quickly told Bell Ringer and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery then sighed: 'Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK,' she said. 'But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I hear, they're barely getting by as it is.' Bell Ringer nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables. Since I hadn't had time to round up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do.

After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.

'What's up?' I asked.

'I didn't get that table where Bell Ringer and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pony Pete and Tony Tipper were sitting there when I got back to clean it off,' she said. 'This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup.'

She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed 'Something For Stevie'.

'Pony Pete asked me what that was all about,' she said, 'so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything, and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this.' She handed me another paper napkin that had 'Something For Stevie' scrawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: 'Truckers!!'

That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgiving, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work.

His placement worker said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called ten times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy.

I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back.

Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting

'Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast,' I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. 'Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate you coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!'
I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room.

I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins 'First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess,' I said. I tried to sound stern.

Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had 'Something for Stevie' printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.

Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I turned to his mother. 'There's more than $10,000 in cash and checks on that table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems.. 'Happy Thanksgiving.'

Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well.

But you know what's funny?
While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big, big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table.....

So far this morning has been amazing!!! At the dump I watched the eagle soar, usually he is just sitting in the tree but today he flew around. Then instead of coming right home I took hubby up to the little story to have tea/coffee and treat and on the way saw 6 deer on the hill eating.

Larry, as many a time I have read that, it still makes ones eyes leak .
Thank you for sharing

Larry, Tom always used Turbo Tax and so I do, too.  It does make it much easier both on preparing the taxes and on filing them.  It is just that I am a worry wart and always go through  a lot of anxiety on whether I have all of the necessary information and if I am answering the questions right, etc. and etc.  I adjusted my withholding so it should be less of a tax shock to face next year.

You are right....Carolina just couldn't hit anything last night and their play just seemed sluggish during the whole game.  This morning's paper said that Coach Roy Williams loved his kids anyway but I'm sure he was really disappointed.

Well, so far today, I gathered up my trash, finished cleaning up the land mines in the yard (they left 2 fresh ones for me while I worked) and delivered the trash to the dumpster (no eagles).

Then I dropped my tax stuff off for the Accountant who I do NOT pay.  Instead, I supported him all through his youth and college years and now I do free kid sitting for his daughter (TLH).  I figure he must owe me that much!  But I have to wait until his "Lady Dragons" are finished with their basketball season and he's taken care of a few friends and their small business.  He's done taxes for some of them for almost as long as he's done mine.

I stopped in to see if my favorite hair cutter was working and she doesn't come in until 1 today.  So I came home, let the doggies out, fed them, grabbed some lunch and now I'm going to go back and see if Paula can figure out whether I still have ears.

Then maybe, I'll take a nap before I pick up TLH at the bus.  I did find some stuff to do today!

Larry, I've heard your story before too but I love it...wet eyes and all.  Truckers are the best and I bet Amy agrees with that.

the sun is shining brightly in a clear blue sky. I miss the white fluffy clouds, but all of Gods' art work is stupendous. Just had a nice long walk, and found that I had my directions mixed...I was thinking north was south. what a dummy.

Larry, happy, thankful tears are filling my eyes, reading about Stevie, and the kind hearted folks that still walk the earth. Stories like this makes the world a more beautiful place. Thank you.

They are showing "Easter Parade" on our big screen t.v. at 1:30 today. If I can stay awake I may go watch it.

I started cleaning up paper work today. Down through the years I have tucked various printed things in my Bibles so I have gathered them into a pile to go through and either toss or start a separate titled folder of  them. Make life easier for my kids when I am busy in my next world, or where ever God decides to place me.

Time to go for lunch, always fun to be with special friends at the table, and beyond. I hope to return later.

As long as we are here, let's dance.
