I thought of Andersonville, too, MarsGal, but I know that Richmond was also notorious.  I started Andersonville some time back but I just didn't want to read it at that time.  I tend to let those horror-filled non-fiction books about terrible times depress me.  I have always been upset at man's inhumanity to man no matter who, when, or where. Think I'll skip the Richmond book, as well, and stick to my British cozies.

Rainy here and we need it.  Also, it means that neither David or I need to do yardwork.

Take care.

Good morning from a dreary Colorado morning. We have been having a wonderful amount of rain.  I am thankful, but due to this we are having issues tying to keep our new patio furniture dry.  We bought one of the garden containers to store the cushions in.  After measuring and looking at many we bought one. Brought it home in a box.  Bob put it together‼️ UGH‼️ it is just slightly too small.  We covered the furniture with a tarp as soon as we felt the cushions we dry enough...tied it all down and the wind managed to get under it and off it came😩 The weekend is to be warmer so we hope to get this furniture dry and back in useable condition.

We have a Bluebird nest in one of our trees and can not wait to see the babies. We have had many Western Tangiers sites recently.  They are so colorful you think someone's parakeet must have gotten loose. We also have been inundated with moth millers😳

I hope EVERYFRIEND will have a wonderful weekend. We will be celebrating Dr Dave's 52nd Birthday on Sunday. Sadly our Michele's Birthday follows, then their 29th Wedding Anniversary followed by the two year date of her passing 😩😢

Good morning; it's sunny at our low of 57, and we're forecast to reach a possible 80 today. I'm not sure about that, but it'd be nice.

Amy, yes, we do have lilacs; those and peonies are two of our most significant seed exports. We must be careful in planting them and putting them in raised beds as there is so much moisture in the soil with all the rivers, creeks, ponds, and lakes.

We had our late-season greening yesterday. Some say they can see the earliest touch of green, but I never have. It will start and be over in less than an hour; all the trees and bushes in sight will suddenly go from brown and gray to green.

I've heard something about that history, Jane, and Joanne, but now I want to look up that book. I believe the account I read was on Slate or someplace similar. Thanks, Jane, for that information! Now I have two books I want to read as I've never heard of the Richmond prison and its story.

I remember my folks preparing seed potatoes; my sisters and I were management's labor in those days with an acre yearly planted.

I wish I knew how or had the determination to can food. I pay for a delivered food share each summer from Calypso farms, and there are several local seasonal farmer's markets and one year around indoor organic and local farmer's markets.

In Delta Junction, ninety-eight miles south of us, there are numerous farms, Russian Old Believers, and other farm stands. But unless someone is feeling generous and drives, I never get that way. There are buses, but that presents other issues.

Phyllis, I often read before sleeping each night, and I've noticed I'm affected by that book's emotions.

Morning Lloyd! It's nice to see you posting here!

Good morning, Jenny! It sounds like this month will be full of ups and downs. I know you will be there for them and yourselves if needed.

Jane, I keep meaning to ask if the flowers she sells are real or artificial bouquets. I had a long ago friend that had a big business of selling artificial arrangements. At one point he met a neighbor of mine at one of the shows they have around the country for commercial wholesalers. They are all dead now. I did a Google & business gone. I used to do a couple art shows a year & sell everything so I had a reason to paint more. My fun was talking to the people. Also liked the money.

Jenny, we have those moths & if bigger would be a plague like "the birds". Open any door & a dozen will come up. So many ups & down in life, but sounds like you have helped the kids to keep on with their world. Haven't seen a photo of that big boy out west lately, how's he doing?  Just thought I'd offer to trade bodies, too bad that they wear out like this, huh? I gave up on my lawn furniture, had covers for it but like yours, wouldn't stay on in this wind. Love to see all your birds. Got a photo of a western bluebird first trip to CO & never saw another. Lots of humming birds at the campgrounds! The southern part of CO had those big magpies, BIG ones.

Patricia, I've wished for a lilac all thru the years & never had one grow for me. Not many around here but see one on my route to the grocery store & think about stopping to see if they would sell me a bouquet. On a hard place to stop so never did it.

I'm one that quit reading because I have to finish the book or can't go to sleep. I have a history book written 20 years after the Civil War, interesting thinking at that time. I started going through the old Reader's Digest condensed books at a book fair one year & got hooked on them for a while.

Hi, Lloyd, we finally got some of that rain Callie has been sending up our way. Think it may hit you later. They say our wheat crop will be bad this year. Careful with those bees, you don't want anyone else to have to do the job for you!

Phyllis, so sorry about the critters in your attic! Is it wrong to have an exterminator spray the attic?  I'm pretty cozy with critters but have my limits!

Got a problem, I left the pool gate open today so Tiger could find some grass to eat & forgot to close it & see a rabbit is inside, better put on the battery pack & chase it out & close that gate!

Love y'all, sweet dreams & God Bless.  Tisie/Shirley

Amy

Good morning.

Woke to the sound of rain falling.  This will help the seeds  and potatoes that were planted yesterday. :)

Since laundry can't be hung out I will do some baking, cookie jar is almost empty!

This is a long weekend here and trafic was horrific yesterday and it may be again today. Will nip into town to pick a few things up and then scurry back home.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jane/Phyllis, just one more Andersonville book. Instead of checking the Gutenberg website, I actually looked at what I do have downloaded. The Maille book is a short one, but this one, published in 1879, is the one I actually have downloaded to my eReader. It is written in two volumes by John McElroy. Titled Andersonville, the title page inside reads "Andersonville: A story of rebel military Prisons. Fifteen Months a guest of the so-called southern confederacy, a private soldier's experience in Richmond, Andersonville, Savannah, Millen, Blackshear and Florence, by John McElroy, Late of Co. L. 16th Ill Cav. 1879." I am getting the impression that these guys were moved around a lot from prison to prison.

Another interesting book note: I just discovered that Bridge over the River Kwai and Planet of the Apes were written by a French author, Pierre François Marie Louis Boulle. I never read the books, and it has been a long, long time since I saw the movies. I would have thought Bridge Over the River Kwai was written by a Brit.

I have been dealing with a cold, an honest to G cold. I haven't had one of those in 20 years or more. Can't imagine where I got it from because I am not out much. Anyway, it is finally starting to subside. Oscar was staying close, but as of yesterday afternoon decided I don't need such close watching. Bless his big heart. Maybe tomorrow I can get out and finish mowing my yard.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cindy and I will be on our way to the Farmers Market soon.

SHIRLEY, Ali's flowers are REAL!  She grows them out in the country on a lot that they are planning to build a house on someday!  She also gets some of them started in a greenhouse that Jim and Cindy had set up in their yard.  So she's here to water and them at least once a week.  In the meantime, the farmer in Jim comes out and he helps her out with that.  And sometimes he goes to the lot with her to tend the flowers.  I think he just can't resist either.  The pictures I posted in the photos look real to to me.  You'd have to back up to see them.  It's been a while since I posted them.

MarsGal, I'm going to have to look up that book about Andersonville.  I copied the name and the auther and wrote some notes so I don't forget why I wrote it down.  Thans for the info!  I wouldn't be surprised if my SIL has a copy of that one too.  He reads a lot!

I have to go get something to eat before we head for the Farmers Market.  If I didn't answer some questions, I'll try to hit them the next time.

JENNY, it's always good to see you in here.  Enjoy the good and remember the good things about your DIL.  I'm sure she is still loved and misses.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Tisie, the critter(s) in the attic problem has been going on for a long time.  Yesterday I called the boss of the removal company that I hired.  Told him I wasn't happy with the fact that the technicians did not show up when promised and only did partial work that had been promised by the company.  I told him that I felt I should attempt to find someone else.
He agreed to cancel the contract.  In fact, I think he was eager to do that.  I think it had turned out to be a job he couldn't seem to handle.  Now, back to finding someone who will complete the job as promised....if such a company even exists anymore.  The lack of trustworthy businesses around here is a VERY big problem.

Now that's a winner & true-ism, Bubble. Got a smile out of me!

Have you been to see the flowers growing, Jane? Love a photo of that field. Like candy for the eyes (so to say). I used to drive past some fields in Colorado that were just flowers, not sure if grown for seeds or what, but all one kind.

Phyllis, hope you find someone with more consideration for the HUMANS than the critters this time! Remind them who pays the taxes on that house!   :tickedoff:  :whip2:  :whip:  :rosegal:

Amy

Good morning..

Mainly sunny today..no rain until Tue they say. Will try and get the rest of the garden in by then but today is a day of rest.

There seemed to be no let up on trafic yesterday and I would imagine tomorrow will be the same way only heading back.

No firecrackers let off last night either!  My friend told me a comment she read on the internet, instead of buying fireworks which cost upto a 100.00 or more buy two bags of dog/cat food and give it to the humane society. Money well spent then. If you want to see something beautful, look up into the sky at night.

Phyllis, I hope you can get ride of your unwanted guests. Here ,it is the lack of help for any business.

Jane ,did you tell Jim that his JETS are being made not just in the US?

Patricia, the all day rain was much needed here. I see the lilacs are about ready to open also the flowering crab blossoms.

Bubble, I passed on your lucky 5y and they loved it. Thank you.

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning; I'm having a late start today because I was up late doing the last of a three-day computer graphics organization. Yesterday we had a large angry purple cloud that passed right over us, spilling no drop! Today we're back to sunny again.

The Lincoln-Kennedy coincidences

Lincoln was elected President in 1860 and Kennedy was elected in 1960 exactly 100 years later. There are seven letters in each name, both Presidents were assassinated on Friday and both in the presence of their wives.

Both were directly concerned with civil rights and both had the legality of their elections contested.

President Kennedy's secretary's name was Lincoln, who warned him not to go to Dallas; Lincoln's secretary's name was Kennedy, who warned him not to go to the theater.

Both of their successors' names were Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Lyndon Johnson. Each name contains 13 letters. Both men served in the U.S. Senate and both were southern Democrats. Andrew Johnson was born in 1808 and Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908.

Booth and Oswald were both southerners favoring unpopular ideas. Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and hid in a theater and Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and hid in a warehouse.

Booth and Oswald were both murdered before a trial could be arranged. Booth and Oswald were born 100 years apart and each name, Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth, has 15 letters.

Good morning..

There were some fireworks last night but they didn't seem to bother Babe and she settled down for the night.

Putzed a bit in the garden, checking things out ,getting it ready to plant the rest of the seeds today. Bugs were bad making it impossible to have tea outside. Need the dragonflies out to put the run on them.

Today, will finish off the garden, then sit back and wait for it to grow. A nice tomato picked fresh, still warm from the sun in a toasted tomato sandwich is worth the wait.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope you all missed me yesterday!  I had a bad day and there's no computer where I spent most of it...upstairs right next to the bedroom!  With a lot of time on the bed!

Cindy is doing her once-a-month thing in Dallas today.  She left yesterday afternoon and does a short visit and an overnight with a good friend then spends Monday at the office and drives back home!  Jim and I are keeping house!

Since Cindy wasn't home, the dogs chose to sleep with me last night.  I've had two dogs in my bed many times of the the years but mine both weighed less than 30 pounds and took up a lot less room than these two.  They're bot upwards of 70 pounds!  Jake got down once but it wasn't long before he was back up and keeping my feet warm!

BUBBLE, like Shirley said I've read that treasure poem before and I loved it but I didn't keep a copy.  Now I will!  Thanks for being so versatile.  You always have something special to share!

AMY, I don't think I've ever wished for dragonfiies in my entire life!  I guess I never put 2 and 2 together and figured out they'd eat the other biters!

DON, I've read that Lincoln/Kennedy writing more than once and it always sends chills down my back!  I'll have a copy of that one too!  Thanks for the reminder!

JENNY, I hope you all have a good time on Dr. Dave's birthday! He sure does deserve a nice day.  In fact, you all deserve a nice day!

PATRICIA, good morning to you!

PHYLLIS, I sure hope you get rid of your "attic residents"!  I've been through that but mine were squirels.  It turns out it was a whole family.  They got them out and closed up the hole.  Then the tree was also trimmed so they couldn't get near the house and NO more squirrels!

I guess I better get moving a get some stuff done before the day slips away.  Yesterday, was a do nothing day for me!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I am sorry that you had a
bad day, yesterday.

I hope that you are feeling better
today and will continue to do so.

come around more now that we are

No fun but right now hopefully
better than the alternative.

Good morning..

The sun is going to have to work to get our temp up, starting out at 39° at the moment heading to 79° today.

Garden is just about done, need to plant garlic and one tomato plant and that is it.

Flowering crab is in blossom and so are the lilacs, just wish they would stay out longer than they do.

Watched Oak Island last night and they left you hanging till the fall! A lot of history in what they are finding..

Jane ,happy to read you are back to feeling better. Jesse is 99lbs and Babe is 83 lbs so I know what you mean. Great for warming the bed though.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 64º and cloudy here heading for a high of 79!  But its supposed to be cloudy most of the day.

We're going to be sitting out on the porch for a while this morning while Cindy's cleaning lady(s) get the downstairs cleaned and I think we can come in when they move upstairs.  I'm glad it's not raining!  I still have to pack up my computer stuff and haul it upstairs to join the "stuff" on the bed until after they leave.

I wish you all a good day...better that yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
