A  young son declared, “When I grow up, I’m going to marry you, Mommy.”

“You can’t marry your own mother,” said his older sister.

“Then I’ll marry you.”

“You can’t marry me either.”

He looked confused, so I explained, “You can’t marry someone in your own family.”

“You mean I have to marry a total stranger?!” he cried.

My mother was standing on the bus when she noticed that a
man holding on to the same pole was staring at her.

Finally, he said, “Excuse me. This is my stop.”

“Well,” she said, “go ahead.”

“This is my pole,” he said.

My mother was confused until he added, “I just bought it at a store to hold up my shower curtain.”

Good morning everyone..

Happy May day to you also Don and Bubble. Bubble thank you for the new start page and the giggles to go with it...loved them.

Today is VON and then will decide how to take/make the day. I am so happy to have the internet up and running again. How did we manage before internet?? I tried to get my mail moved to another mail system but to no avail so it stays.

Shirley, the worst area I had to help him up was when he fell between the wall and the bed but we did manage. Another time when he fell out in the kitchen on the ceramic floor I ran and got the step/box he made for the dog to get into bed and got him sitting on that and then stand up.

Larry, thank you, I never thought of google to see what they say but will. I am sorry you have so many funerals to go to.

Jenny , have a safe trip today.

Joy they called for snow or rain on Sunday and we got a beautiful day, so off we went for a drive. Nice when the weather guesser is wrong.

Gloria, I can't do all that I once did either and it is hard to accept that. If I put a 100 lb bag of feed over my shoulder now I would likely go with it! I have found "helper" when I need to do things and so far they are working for me. Instead of carrying the laundry basket downstairs now I let it slide on the steps and then pick it up at the bottom.

June, hope all is well your way..

Better get a move on here

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone 38° this morning  to welcome May in. According to weather forecast we will be getting to 80° tomorrow. Late yesterday felt like winter and I turned the heat  up and tomorrow is to feel like summer then thnderstorms on Thursday. Crazy, what  happened to the wonderful spring days we used to have?

LARRY  I have the heat on now but I expect it will be turned off after the witch gets here later. She has a big heater in her office so she could be warm. Last fall when i t s tar  ted get ting cold the maintenance man argued with her that the heat  should be turned on and she told him it was too early. He told her tha t seniors cannot  take the cold we had. He won that one. I love the Me channel. I like Grit, too. Al west erns on that one. In the afternoon they have several of the old Death Valley Days series. Love seeing some of the old act ors on those, even Ronald Reagan at  times.

GLORIA de  I made a mistake when I started posting Joan's old posts and did not check them off so would not repeat them. Now I do check them so I do not repeat them.

JENNY  you do know me and how I love seeing different places, especially mountains and beautiful scenery. Enjoy your travels and being with son and DIL.

BUBBLE  thank you for the new month and beautiful graphics and jokes.

DON  Happy May Day to you, too.

AMY  I have been independant for so many years it is hard to accept that I can do so little now. I am used to the help I get and thankful for it but some days it bothers me to watch as they do my work.

Seems odd not seeing Jane here this morning. Hope she is enjoying her stay in Oklahoma.

Have a good day.

When all that you can say...
Bob Perks

When all that you can say is, "thank you!" it is better than saying nothing. People long to be appreciated.

When all that you can say is, "I'm here if you need me," it may be more than anyone else offered.

When all that you can say is, "I'm sorry!" it may be exactly what they wanted to hear and what you needed to say.

When all that you can say is, "Forgive me?" it touches two people, you and the forgiver.

When all that you can say is, "I need you!" you can't imagine how good it is to be needed.

When all that you can say is, "God, help me!" it is the most powerful prayer.

When all that you can say is, "I love you!" it has the power to break down walls, melt hearts, re-unite, bring peace, transform, bring joy, strengthen a relationship, console, comfort a child, restore a marriage and confirm your commitment to a friend.

"I love you, my friend!

l'm here Gloria but it's earlier in Texas than it is in Pa and I'm not changed over yet. We're not going to OK until Thursday when my granddaughter (Emma's new auntie) gets here.  Today I' making Pa Dutch pot pie and I've been instructed to "make enough to bring some along to OK". We've also been told not to eat it all until Courtney gets here.

Jim just got back from the store so I guess I'll get started on the potpie. Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

Hi Everyone.  It is another sunny but chilly morning in the 40's but suppose to get up to the mid-80's this afternoon.  The main thing on our agenda today is to go to vote on a $90 million dollar bond referendum to allow for building some new schools and renovating some that need a lot of repair and upgrading.  Two of the new schools are in North Augusta where I live and certainly can't hurt our property values as this is a growing area and I will vote iin favor of it.  It may raise my property taxes up by about $40 a year.

I did attend the funeral I mentioned yesterday and there had to have been between four and five hundred people in attendance.  It was the biggest funeral I have ever attended or expect to attend.  Jennifer and Elizabeth got here shortly before I had to leave and Elizabeth got busy right away and took out and cleaned the drain pipes for the five sinks we have in this house.  She then washed down the three columns on our front porch to remove the mildew and they sure look better.  She will paint them for us a little later.  Finally she washed our car and cleaned it out inside.  This young lady is a very capable person and is willing to do what needs to be done.  We paid her well for her work.  The rest of the day was spent resting and working more on my laptop.

deAngel, it is nice to have friends drop by to visit but it can be very tiring as one feels they have to keep the conversation going.  The friend that visited us last week sent us a beautiful Calla Lilly plant yesterday that is in bloom with a blue/purple flower.

Jenny, you are very wise to do all the traveling you can now as the day may come, as it has for Pat and I, that you may not be able to do so.  Elizabeth is the worker.  I told her yesterday that God has been good to us in putting people into our lives when we have needed them such as the young Nigerian "grandson" in Georgia who helped us get ready to move and now Elizabeth, who is our new "granddaughter" and is so willing to do whatever we need done and seems to know how to do it.

Bubble, thanks once again for getting us off to a great start on this month of May with the beautiful graphics.  I have not heard or read the Mother poem for many years.  That was a funny story of the man and woman on the bus.

Don, Happy May Day to you as well.  These months are really flying by.

Amy, it sounds like you have several techniques to help your husband get up.  I sometimes wonder how we put up with the old slow dial up when we first got the Internet but know at that time it was amazing.  I sure hope I am through attending funerals for a very long time.  When our daughter was still living with us and we had our upstairs bonus room fixed into a bedroom with a closet we had a laundry shoot put in from her room to a corner of the garage with a door at the bottom that kept the clothes from falling out until you wanted them to do so.  Our laundry room is on our main level since we don't have a basement.

Gloria, it was chilly here in the house this morning but didn't want to turn the heat on as it will be getting hot this afternoon and we will need to use the AC.  We don't get the Grit channel but there are plenty of Western type series on ME TV.  It seems the older I get the less TV I want to watch as just enjoy the peace and quiet or listening to music.

Jane, nice to see you are safely in Texas and have a day or so before you go on to Oklahoma.  For some reason it is hard to beat mother's or grandmother's cooking so sure it is a treat to have you cook something while you are there.  We had a Marie Callendar's Chicken Pot Pie for our dinner last night.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for May 1st, 2018

LARRY the chicken pot pie I make has the accent on "pot" not "pie". It has no crust and is made in a pot with chicken, broth, dough squares that I mak and potatoes. It's a Pennsylvania Dutch dish. My grandfather was German and I've been eating it since I was old enough to remember. My whole family loves it!  And if you're not from Pennsylvania you probably never heard of it.

I better get back to my job or we won't have it for our supper.  Hope you are all having a good May 1.

Can't say good morning anymore,  so I will just say "Hello".

I was here earlier and wrote a long message and then hit "something" and lost it all.  Didn't have time then to rewrite it, then.

Jane,  I had written about the kind of pot pie you were probably making for your family. Living not too far from Amish country, I am very familiar with the type you are talking about.    Years ago,  I guess it was the first time I had the Pa. Dutch Pot  Pie it was at a pot luck at a campground when we were traveling.  I thought I was eating some kind of a "scalloped potato dish". Thought those  big pieces of soft dough  was potato. It might also had pieces of potato in it.   Turned out to be the "slippery pot pie.  Lots of times,  I have seen the different fire companies up in Amish country where they advertised the "baked chicken pot pie, or the slippery pot pie.   I think the chicken and dumpling dish that the Crackle Barrel restaurant serves is just about the same thing.  I love anything that is "doughy"  .  I know your family will enjoy your cooking while you are there.

Now, Texas, where you are now, where the new baby is???   I was a little confused, as I thought you were just going to Oklahoma. Anyway,, I know you are having a great visit.

Gloria, I, too, turned the heat up a little bit this morning, but didn't let it run long.  Just enough to take the chill off.  I am hoping that I can turn it off completely until next winter arrives.  I know how hard it is to have to realize that we can't do the things like we used to do.  But,  I just  try to do the best I can. I am so careful walking, as I have this fear of falling and I sure don't want to have to got through that.  My walker has to be very close by.

Amy, glad you were able to get out for a nice ride.

Larry,  I  am sorry that you have had no many funerals to have to go to lately.  The older we get, I guess we all experience more funerals.   Last year, there were over a dozen residents that passed away here where I live in just a little over several weeks.   It was kind of a depressing time.

Bubble, really enjoyed your "MOTHER" tribute. I have always liked that poem .   And, the jokes were cute, too.  Thanks for the new page.

Time to think about getting a little lunch.

Wishing everyone a pleasant afternoon.

Joy

Nearly time to go down for lunch, but I wil get a start on my dull message anyway. spent a third of the morning with the massages and  exercises then half an hour on the breathing machine, then some breakfast, washing body and teeth, theN a quick trip down for our monthly community members meeting, then home to water my plants, and now HERE I AM ! Pooped out and ready for a nap, but first I have to travel down to the dining room for my main meal of the day. Which is right now........

Another day on it's way downhill. Had a delicious lunch.. slice of fried chicken breast, fr. fries,a big lettuce and veg.salad, started with Italian wedding soup, and ended with a variety of cookies and coffee. Back was aching by then so took a couple of pills and a nice nap.

Still a cloudy sky, so I feel it is time to take long walk and get the needed exercise. I shall return, Godf willing and the creek don't rise.

Gloria de, it seems like I spend more of my life sleeping than anything else I do. After todays snooze I took a really long walk through the three floors of the D building, which is about three times larger than my C building. It was too much though and I won't do it again. I stumbled three times before I got home. Fortunately I had a good grip on my rollator. Now I am home for the rest of the day.Have plenty of food on hand, and started another new book today.

I will be happy when those of you still doing winter weather will have Spring arrive. We are so fortunate out here on the West coast. It was overcast all day, and we badly need rain, but otherwise it's great climate wise.

Time to have  a bite to eat then into sleeping clothes and just loafing the rest of the day. I love you all. June

It's 9 pm here (EDT) and I feel I haven't done anything (as usual) but I was busy this morning.  I had my hair cut, then Tom and I went to breakfast, then we went to the clinic where I had blood drawn prior to a May 23 doctor's appointment.  I usually don't have that much going in one day.

The association is having pesticide put on the lawns which makes it necessary to keep the cat in the house.  He is an inside cat anyway, but he escapes sometimes.  We have to be on the alert to see that he doesn't dart outside.

It was very warm here today - officially 84 but closer to 75 at my condo.  It has been warm inside but I don't want to turn on the a/c yet and the next week is to be cooler which I will appreciate.

Good morning everyone..

Dogs seemed to think I should get up. I let them out and I know they will both head straight back to bed!

Not a lot planned today other than head in town to pick up clementine's, the store was out yesterday but said a new shipment is in today. Weather has been lovely and today will be no different, 40° F at the moment. We did notice how high the water was in town and soon it will overflow the banks.

June, I would say you did a lot yesterday.

Joy, I didn't bother putting a fire on this morning as the temp in the house is 70° we may have to use the fire for a few mornings and damp days but I think the full time burning is over for now.

Just realised I do have another job to do today and that is cut the dogs nails. I did do the neighbours dog on Fri so he is alright for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning.  I didn't make it in here yesterday.  It was a day that my body and my head just said slow down...so I did.

I'm sorry, Lloyd, for your accident yesterday and so glad that you didn't break anything.  Please slow down and take it easy.

Sounds as though you are having a wonderful time with your Texas/Oklahoma family, Jane.  I'm sure they are enjoying your cooking and doesn't it feel good to do something for those you love?

Lovely morning here again and supposed to be quite warm.  Stay well, everyone!

Good morning everyone, 55° to start my day. Going up to 80°. Winter to summer with 1 spring day inbetween.

JANE  don't know why I thought you were headed right to Oklahoma. I remember the first time I went to San Diego that 3 hour time change really got me mixed up. I always came home on a Friday to give me a couple of days before heading back to work. Gee you are on vacation and they put you to work baking? Shows no one can make that pie like Mom does. Don't forget to give Emma a hug for me.

AMY  been almost 3 years since I got to hold my great grandson. He will be 3 in July and now I get hugs back from him.

LARRY  your Elizabeth sure knows how to work for a y oung girl. So many of the younger CNAs I have had only want to sit and play on their cell phones or tablets. At first I let them but read over their rules again and if they took one or the other out I would not let them. Most of the young ones thought it would be an easy job and there were only 2 that were good. The ones I have now are from mid 30's tp mid 40's and know their jobs. They are not supposed to wash windows but one of them has washed mine a couple of times. On Grit it is mostly all old Western movies. The Death Valley Days is about the only old TV series.

JOY  like you I have a fear of falling, I would never be able to get myself up anymore. My rollator is close to me at all times. I might ask my son to come and put my AC in. Just heard that it will be humid and 80° and humid will do me in.

LLOYD  yes time for you to get rid of the machinery you have. Every time you work on it alone you get hurt. Feel better and PLEASE be careful.

JUNE  there was a time I would have enjoyes all the food you had for lunch yesterday but now just a few bites and I would not be able to eat anymore. Wish I knew the name of what Lilias  took to give her an appetite then Mare took it too. Around here doctors know of nothing to give me an appetite.

GLORIA de  like you I have the time to travel but even being in a car for half an hour I want to go home.

MARY ANN  the official temperat ure here comes from the TFGreen airport and that is at the shore. At times between there and here there can be a 15 degree difference. Colder here in winter and warmer in summer, ocean breezes do not reach here.

AMY  you are lucky you know how to clip dog's nails. I know the groomers here charge quite a lot to do that job.

PHYLLIS  like you I have days where I want to do something and the body will not let me.

Time to make my breakfast and then shower and dress for the day. Hafe a great day.

Old Folks

Dear Pastor:

Don't ever forget about us old folks. We are worth a fortune. We have Silver in our hair, Gold in our teeth, Stones in our kidney's, Lead in our feet and Gas in our stomachs.

I myself have become quite a frivolous old gal since I wrote you last.
As a matter of fact, I'm seeing five different gentleman every day.

When I get up in the morning, Will Power gets me out of bed. Then I immediately go see John. A few minutes later, Charley Horse comes along.
When he leaves, Arthur-itis shows up and finally I'm so tired, I go to bed with Ben Gay.

As you can see, we all need your prayers.....

Hi Everyone.  Once again we will be enjoying a nice sunny day with it getting into the mid-80's this afternoon.  Pat has a doctor's appointment  this morning and then we will have our Wednesday night dinner at Church.  Tonight is Taco night with  ice cream and all the trimmings for dessert.  Scott and Elizabeth will be joining us and I thought Jennifer was also but she changed her mind.  About all I did yesterday, besides my normal work in the kitchen, was to go to vote.  The school bond referendum did pass.

Jane, thanks for explaining your chicken pot pie.  That sounds like a hefty meal in a pot.  It does sound good but you are right I have never heard of it.  Hope you are getting a lot of visiting done while you are with your family.

Joy, it is frustrating when we spend time writing a posting and then lose it but it seems to happen to most of us.  I have never heard of slippery pot pie.  All we can do is the best we can.  Glad you are very careful not to fall.  I also try to be careful but so far other than occasionally losing my balance but recovering before falling is about all that happens to me.  My fear is that Pat will fall.  When so many of our friends are all older people we have to expect that we will be attending more funerals.  However, two of the three I have attended here recently were for relatively young people who had cancer.  I did attend quite a few funerals of my coffee drinking friends where I lived over the about 20 years I participated in that group.

Lloyd, I think Nancy is going to have to wrap you in cotton when you work with your equipment.  Glad your leg wasn't broken and sorry it is so painful for you.  Mary Ann gave you some really good advice.

Amy, I liked your suggestion of bubble wrap for Lloyd better than the one I suggested.

June, it sounds like you had a pretty busy day yesterday.  That was really a nice lunch. Sure glad you didn't fall and you now know what your limits for walking are.

Mary Ann, we just saw the lawn man in our back yard spreading fertilizer.  I do remember those signs put in our other yard when it was sprayed or fertilized to not let pets on it for 24 hours.

Amy, we often buy clementines and they are so easy to peel.  At least you know you will be getting fresh ones.  Is your town subject to flooding?

Phyllis, glad to see you felt up to posting today.  You did the right thing to slow down yesterday if your body was telling you to do so.  We are having nice weather here on the East Coast.  I just saw the weather report on TV that the mid-section of the country is in for bad storms and tornadoes today.

Gloria, glad you are finally getting some warm days.  I bet that cooking pot that Jane is using is just filled with love as well as the food items.  I agree that Elizabeth is a jewel and seems to know how to do a lot of different things.  I hope she soon will start work on college courses so she can look forward to a bright future.  A lot of truth in your "Old Folks" posting.

deAngel, I always felt we didn't have the money to do much traveling so for many years our annual vacation was done with trips back to visit our folks.  Now, when we can afford to do some traveling neither one of us are up to doing so.

Good Morning Everyfriend. We're going up to Tulsa tomorrow. That's when I get to hold Baby Emma. My granddaughter her auntie is arriving this morning. I already told Courtney that I'm going to be selfish with her. She (Courtney) will be back many times. I might not be.

JOY. You're probably right about the"slippery potpie" being the kind I make. I never heard that definition. And, yes, there are potatoes in it.

SHIRLEY AND AMY, I was telling my daughter some of the things you both do and she was smiling and nodding and I finished with "they're a couple of human dynamos!"  She nodded, smiled and sai "so are you!"  I'm not in your league but I try.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

Jane, your daughter is right!! You are not only in the league you lead it!!!

Going to go rake the garden beds, it is so love3ly out that I doubt I will be wearing this fleece top for long..

Larry...

Regarding fertilizing  with out
warning of the dangers???

There was a time with the United
States Environmental Protection
Agency  was there to protect us ....

I don't think that is the case any longer....
Good management is now in the toilet.

(Just a thought) ...

I THINK  that now we have to
be  particularly careful with what we eat,
and  where we breath these days...
JMHO...of course!

The weather here in Maine is starting to
look better and better.   Lot's of
sunshine today...     Hello Spring time!

Have a good day,  everyone.

Good After noon all.I am running a bit late today. Had a very inspiring Bible study today. Left me feeling good inside. Then I couldn't make up mind if I wanted to eat downstairs or at home. "Home" won out so I have a Banquet dinner heating in the microwave. Gary does my shopping for me, so I have surprises in the freezer. What a good "kid" I have.

I woke up sleepy, and if it were a normal day, I may have stayed in bed, but I never want to miss Bible studies. So the rest of the day will be mine…..napping and reading, and I may go down for supper. What a life…….so many lovely choices.

Phyllis, I understand your need of taking the day off….me too. And it is wise to listen to the body. I wanted one like that today, but didn't take it and I can feel the need very strongly now, so I will quiet down for the rest of today.

Well, I lay down on the bed after checking radar, TV on & raining pretty hard.  I woke up to Stalag 17 so knew immediately it was bedtime... not for me but most folks.  9:00-10:00 pm.  Checked radar and all storms are way east so will feed cats & see if they want to venture out.  Callie has not been seen since yesterday evening so a little concerned about her.  She has done this before so think she has another place to call "home" if I don't spend enough time talking to her (seriously) I think she would like to be in a one cat house since she discovered how nice people can be after all.  Makes me sad I just don't have enough time to "love on" each of these fur babies as much as they need..... but my 2 legged family has kept me busy the last week.  Such is life in Kansas, I think we missed the worst of the storms, at least power is on & so is the roof!  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless..... from me & Hal.

Good evening.  I am really late getting in here today.

I had a long day, getting blood work done, a PET scan, mammogram and several other x-rays.  I left home about 7:15 a.m. and got back after 2 p.m.  My son dropped me off on his way to work, and, I called my DIL, who came to pick me up.  It was able to have everything done at the same place and they just walked me from one department to the other.  Went very smoothly, but was a very tiring day.  I stopped and picked up some lunch, came home and ate, and then settled in my recliner to read for a little while, and fell asleep, and didn't wake up until after 7 p.m.  I really needed that sleep.  So, now I probably will be up most of the night.

Jane, here is a link to the "slippery pot pie".  Being familiar with the Amish, I am surprised that you never heard that term.  As I mentioned before,  lots of times when the fire departments have "pot pie suppers".  that is how they distinguish between the kind with a crust and the kind with the noodles.  I am sure you have seen the "Bot Boi" noodles in the stores.

http://homejoys.blogspot.com/2012/02/slippery-pot-pie.html

I have not checked out all the messages and boards here in S & F tonight.  Will get back here tomorrow.

Right now, I am going to watch the late news and hope I can get to sleep.

Have a good night.

Joy

Yummm, Joy, that sounds good.  I bookmarked & will copy it tomorrow, may find a time to give it a try when one or more of my bunch is coming by.  I may be up for a while tonight, too.  Suzy Homemaker has not been around here lately, plenty to do.  :-[

Wanted to tell y'all that Callie Cat was waiting at the front door when I walked through the house right after my last post.  She came dancing in, her little white feet really do twinkle.... was happy to have their usual "midnight snack" of canned Friskie's pate... all 3 ate good & decided they needed to go out for exercise since Tom & Tiger had been inside all day.  All's well... didn't think any of you would lose sleep over a missing cat, but no sense wasting anyone's worrying, right?

Thinking of all of you east of Kansas and hope the storms don't do too much damage in your area.  I expect Lloyd is getting hit about now.  Heard one tornado was on the ground for miles here in KS.  I looked out front & back and didn't see any damage in my yard.

Good evening from California.

We had a wonderful day.  Mark took today and tomorrow off to spend time with us.  We drove all over Paso Robles today and plan to drive to the coast tomorrow.  Megan had to work, but we did go and do more looking around after she got home. It was very pretty today, but the winds became a bit stronger this afternoon making it a bit too chilly to sit outside to watch the sunset like we had planned.

Our drive up from LA yesterday was a delight.  It was a bit rainy and cloudy some of the way, but the coast is beautiful no matter what the weather.  We spent quite a bit of time in Slovang, a Danish style architecture community.  I must go back there on our drive back as I liked it so much.  We went in one of the many bakeries in town and bought a Apple Strudel that was SO good.

We had lunch in famous seafood restaurant in Malibu.  What a treat that was.  We arrived in Paso just before Mark closed up the club, so we got a nice tour of the facility.  The setting is spectacular.  It sure is good to see him.

Megan is doing wonderful and I am so happy to be able to tell now that she is expecting a bundle of joy the first part of December.  She and Mark called us Easter Sunday to tell us they were pretty sure she is pregnant, as three pregnancy tests showed positive, and her first visit to her OB /GYN confirmed that yesterday. They are both extremely happy but quite surprised this happed so quickly, as they anticipated it would take a couple of months or more.  The BEST news of all is they now do a blood test to tell the sex of the baby and that will be done in a couple of weeks!  It used to be by ultrasound at a couple of months or so, and of course in our day one had to wait for the delivery!

I must get to bed....sweet dreams to all.

JANE, I know you are so excited to see and hold your baby tomorrow....safe travels....and enjoy!

Good morning everyone..

What a night we had last evening, I was sitting watching tv and out went to power, no idea why? Phoned the 1800 number and they said it would be back on by 11:15 pm...rather precise I thought. We opened up the garage and hooked the generator up for a bit. Shut it down around 9:30 and went to bed, power came back on at 10:00 pm.

This morning I am taking Kyle to the Dr. he has a cold and with all his problems he needs antibiotics to get rid of it.

Not sure what the rest of the day will bring..

Shirley, I am glad Cally Cat made it back home and I know how worried one can be when they go AWOL.

Jenny, congratulations!!!How exciting to have a new baby coming..
Slovang must have been just beautiful to see. I love the architecture of old buildings.

Jane , have a safe trip to OK, take LOTS of photos please.

Joy, that sounded like a tiring day. Thank you for the url I too saved it. :)
June, nice that you have a buffet in your freezer that Gary picked out.......you're right he is a good son.

Roley/Peter, you are right!! Time is not in the upper end of the "egg timer" most of it had slipped by and now is the time to enjoy life.

Gloria,it is easy enough to do and yes I know it can be pricey, one vet here charges $27.00 to do it. Our neighbour is a blessing to us plus I love their dog and cat that I don't mind doing the dogs nails for them.

Larry, I did manage to get the oranges, they are so easy to peel for hubby. Our town has had flooding in the past ,all depends on the snow amount and rain. So far it is not too bad. One year the water crept up over the banks and onto the main street!

Lloyd, hope you are feeling better this morning and all went well at the VA.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the warmer, but overcast,
rocky coast of Maine...

Good to see things are going well this
morning around Seniors and Friends.

I am just getting prepared to return some
more items from Women Within,  as
the ones I received were too big....
Way too big!

It is not always fun packing up stuff
to ship back....  but I must do what
needs to be done.

I hope that everyone has a good Spring
Day...

Good morning.  Another pretty morning and supposed to be a warm day. I am hoping I can go outside and sit for a little while today.

Surprisingly, even after my long nap yesterday,  I did sleep pretty good.  I was really expecting to be up and down all night.  I have had my breakfast and now need to decide what I can get into.  Need to put some dishes in the dishwasher and clean up the kitchen.

Jane,  I know you are so anxious to see your new little great-granddaughter.  Hope we get to see a picture of GG and little Emma.

Lloyd, hope you have an easy day today and not get into any more trouble.  LOL   Take care !!!

Sandy, that is one of the reasons I hate to order clothes on-line.  It is so easy to do, I know, but  when you have to return the things,  it can be a big pain.  It does make it easier when they include a return label and you can just put it out for the mailman to take back.  I have a terrible time getting shoes to fit, and I know in the past couple years,  I have had to return at least a dozen pair of shoes.  I have ordered things from Women Within, and get a lot of catalogs from them.  I do like most of their things.  And, they do have shoes in my size, but don't think I have ordered any shoes from them.

Hope everyone will have a pleasant day.

Joy

Good morning everyone, 68° already and overcast. Today I will call my son and ask him to set my AC up. I cannot go through another night like the one just past. Too warm for sleeping even with the fan going.

LARRY  I am glad I went to San Diego every year till I retired. Now a half hour trip in a car wears me out.

LLOYD  I will hold you to that being more careful. As we age it is hard to accept that there are things we can no longer do.

JANE  your daughter is right about you bing up there with Shirley and Amy. I get tired just reading what the 3 of you do. Now don't forget those extra hugs for Emma for us. Every thine I see her name I think of my sister.

ROLEY/PETER  Lloyd is too stubborn to listen to us.

JUNE  every day is a lazy day for me.

SHIRLEY  thunder storms in the forecast later today. Hope not, that is time for my daughter and I to get together.

JOY  glad every thing was in the same building but still very tiresome.

JENNY Happy day for Mark and Megan. First baby is always a miracle. Wonder if I would have wanted to know what my babies would be all those years ago.

AMY  rather lose power when I am sleeping and not when I am onine or watching a good program.

JOY  I nave narrow feet and never find them in catalogs. Only one shoestore aroung here that has them and they are expensive.

What's Truly Valuable
(By Michael Newnham)

I'd been gone all day and as I pulled up to the curb I could see Miss Kitty waiting in the driveway.

As I approached the house she loped toward it in front of me, eager to get in and glad I was home.

I assumed I'd forgotten to fill her dish and she was celebrating the arrival of her waiter/chef.

I retrieved a can of Fancy Feast and emptied it into the dish...dinner is served.

She just stared at it, then stared at me.

She was evidently not in the mood for Fancy Feast...

I grabbed a new dish and some fine Whiskas (with gravy) and presented it to her.

She stared at it, stared at me, and began to yowl.

I admonished her for her finicky ways, talked about starving kitties in Africa, and got yet another dish which I filled with a fine Friskees pate and set it before her.

Two blank stares and a yowl were my reward.

I plopped into my chair in exasperation and frustration.

"Stupid cat! What do you want?"!!!

She lept into my lap, and bumped heads with me, purring like a vintage Harley.

She curled up in a big ball of cat and was sound asleep by the time I figured it out.

It wasn't about the food.

She wanted me.

She was waiting for me to come home so she could be with me.

She didn't need any food, she needed my lap.

She appreciates the food, but she loves my presence.

Most of the time I measure my worth to my loved ones by what I can do for them.

Most of the time I measure God's worth by what He can do for me.

Most of the time I measure my worth to God by what I think I'm doing for Him.

Most of the time I'm wrong about all these relationships.

What's truly valuable to those who really love you is you.

The rest is all Whiskas with gravy...

Hi Everyone.  Once again we are to have a beautiful day but we will be getting up to 88 this afternoon.  Other than picking up my friend and going to coffee there is nothing else on the schedule for today.

We did enjoy the dinner at Church last evening although Scott was the only one joining us and he passed on eating the meal as he didn't think his stomach could tolerate the taco meal.  He came out after dinner while Pat and I went to Great Clips and we both got haircuts.  When we got home Scott was talking with his grandchildren, as he does each Wednesday evening, and we also got to talk with two of them.  This was the longest conversation over the phone he had ever had with them and was delighted.  It lasted almost an hour. The little 7 year old had a new game he was playing and was excitedly telling his grandfather all about it as he played.

Jane, I know you are excited about getting to see that new great grandchild today and savor every minute of it. The nice part is you don't have to change the diapers and just get the enjoyable part.  I remember when I first held my first great grandchild, who is now 15 years old, and it was very special.  I also got to hold the second one when she was just a baby but not the other two.  In fact, I have never seen the 7 year old in person.  However, he was the chatterbox on the phone last evening.  If you are not in the league with Shirley and Amy then I don't know who could be since you seem to be working all the time.

Amy, it is that time of the year where gardeners want to get their hands in the soil.  I got a cute little video yesterday of my 7 year old great grandson covering up seeds in the garden that he had just planted.  He lives in upstate New York. When do you start your planting?  Sorry to read that Kyle has a new problem with the cold.  I expect his immunity to things like that isn't too high.

Sandy, the trouble with ordering things over the Internet is when we have to return them.  I know this from experience.

Sandy, We have little way of knowing what is really in our foods in terms of pesticides and hormones in meat.  Glad you are finally getting some Spring time weather.  Enjoy.

Peter, good advice in my book that you encouraged Lloyd to do.  Hope you are doing better now.

June, always nice to have surprises in our freezer.  Sometimes they are surprises even when we fix them ourselves.  Pat and I sometimes forget what we have in the freezer.  Glad you could attend the Bible study.

Shirley, I keep an eye on the radar yesterday and saw the bad weather had moved East of you and Janet, who lives in Ulysses.  However, saw that the Kansas City area was right in the eye of it and Pat's sister lives in Independence, Missouri.  I just looked at the Kansas City Star website and see that tornadoes and strong gusts of wind resulted in 10,000 power outages and damage in the KC area.

Joy, that sounds like a lot to get done in one day.  However, nice it could all be done in the same facility even if you had to go to different departments.

Jenny, nice of Mark to take time to show you around.  I know there is a lot of beauty out in that area.  Nice you could tour where Mark is working.  Is he enjoying his new job and location.  Another grandchild on the way and I so remember who you fretted about whether you would have any grandchildren.

Gloria, it seems odd to hear you speak of being too warm after the Spring and cold weather you all have had up your way.  I hope your son will get your AC set up for you today.  You gave me a good chuckle today with "I have narrow feet and never find them in catalogs".  Of course I know what you mean that may be the only chuckle I get today.  I am not making fun of you but just enjoying your phrasing.  That was a good reading you shared for today.

Gloria, your piece about the cat fits my cat to a tee.  He only wants me and sometimes it seems he is glued to me.

We had rain overnight and it is still raining but it is a gentle rain.  The timing was good because we had pesticide put on the grass a day or two ago.  I won't even let Kendrick out on the porch stoop because he might decide to go on the grass (he usually does not).  One year a resident did not read the message about pesticide, let her dog out and the dog died.  I don't want that!

Good Morning,

Jane, etc.  may have a stormy drive to Tulsa!  The weather system Shirley mentioned stretched from Kansas to Texas - with OKC right in the middle and has moved across eastern Oklahoma. Radar shows heaviest area is right along Highway 69 - their best route!
Weather gurus here were busily playing "my radar is better than your radar" from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and storm chasers were reporting on every cloud movement.  I think 3 smallish tornadoes touched down here and there but it was mostly heavy rain and straight winds.
There were 1.5 inches in my rain gauge this morning but no wind to speak of at my house.  Sons also missed the heavy stuff.

Miss Emily is coming for lunch.  She is at the end of her two-week trimester break.  Last week she and 2 friends were in NYC for 4 days.  Miss Ellen was able to spend quite a bit of time with them but not 100%.   She did go with them to a Yankees baseball game.  (Apparently, these gals are not "5th Avenue shoppers".   ;) )

We're either having lunch "catered by Arby's" or having Fridge Fallout.  Off to the kitchen to see what's available there.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Callie, when I saw the radar this morning I wondered about Jane's drive to OK.  I hope she doesn't meet up with the storms that show up on my radar (not in competition with anyone!).

We were threatened with a storm, but it went sideways and is in eastern Ohio now.  We are getting occasional showers.  Good for the grass and flowers.

Yard men just left & the estimator for pool work right before that & all of a sudden it is dark, lightning & pouring rain... just one red & yellow blob on the radar wrapping around Wichita.  Warning says "hail to start in 25 min"......... A solid sheet of rain against the windows in this room and I forgot to attach the "extender" for the downspout that I take off before mowers come.  Tom has been hiding behind the bed because of strangers in "his" pool area and the mowers, now this storm has him buried somewhere.  Not sure where Tiger is, but she is fearless but no patience with strangers.  If I'm not going to sit & pet her she can't be bothered.

Gloria, that article must have been written by someone that knows cats, like Mary Ann said, "fits my cat to a tee"... these, too!  Callie opted to stay outside last night & so did Tom & Tiger.  I made the mistake of opening my sliding door in the bedroom about 3" so Tom & Tiger kept coming to check in, let me know they wanted in.... had a snack & wanted back out.  After a couple times each I marched them to the other end of the house & closed off the door to the hall so they couldn't bother me, inside or out!

Congratulations to the kids, Jenny.... isn't it neat how every FIRST baby is the ONLY baby ever born & got to be the most special in the world.

Callie, glad to hear from you, reporters made it sound like OK was being blown off the map.

Larry, my brother & wife live in Overland Park & have nephews & nieces all over the area, sister in Warrensburg & "home" was Sedalia all those years ago. I keep getting tale end news reports of damage in the KC area so think I will call & check on everyone.

Think I'd better go fix that downspout, reason it's removable is the extension takes water off the roof to the other side of the sidewalk so it doesn't get too deep & flow into a basement window.  This is some rain coming down right now!  I didn't take time to empty the rain gauge this morning but did see it had about 3/4" from yesterday.  I hear the wind starting again.... better check radar. Will report in later if we have power~~

Good morning everyone..

Liquid sunshine here this morning, birds are singing especially the robins
The Dr said to keep an eye out for certain symptoms  and gave hubby a repeat on some meds.  His fever broke by 2 am and is fine this morning. Need to take his script in and I would imagine some cat naps are in store today.

I listened to an orchestra of frogs singing last night, first time this year.....the old time sayin g is that they have to be froze in 3 times before good weather is here to stay. Not to be out done the geese on the lake added to the music.

June, love seeing your posts, no matter what you report as long as you say hi :)

Hope everyone is out of harms way from the storms...

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning every one, 68°, We hit 90° the last 2 days. My son came and pu t my AC in for me. Could not figure out why it was not cooling. Loo at the hose in back of it and the hose came out of the AC. I cannot fix it and was too late to call him. Finally fell asleep with both fans running in the bedroom. Could not open window because it was raining. Still misty  and if I open window it will only bring the dampness in. Guess you know I am not a happy camper this morning. One good thing yesterday I got my summer clothes out and the winter ones put away. Going to go lay down and hope to get a few more ZZzzzs.

Unwanted house guests
Joseph J. Mazzella

Have you ever had unwanted house guests? I am talking about the ones who wear out their welcome in the first two minutes yet plan to stay forever. I am talking about the ones who trash the place, eat all the food, sit in your favorite chair, and take over your bed. I am talking about the ones that even your dogs avoid. I am talking about the ones that take everything and give back nothing. I am talking about the ones that only brighten up a room when they leave it.

I had two guests like this for years. Their names were Fear and Hate and they seemed like permanent squatters in my soul. Every time I would try and toss them out, I would look around a few days later and find that they had snuck back in. They also invited their friends Worry, Doubt, Jealousy, Envy, Frustration, Depression, and Despair to stay as well. It made for a miserable home and a miserable life.

Finally one day I could take it no longer. I cried out to God to help me get rid of these unwanted guests once and for all. It was then that I heard a gentle knock on the door of my soul. When I opened it I found Love there smiling at me. I invited Love in and watched as my unwanted house guests fled out the door and through the windows. They couldn’t leave quick enough. Then Love asked his friends Peace and Joy over to help straighten up the place. I soon realized too that Love was a guest I never wanted to leave. Every now and then Fear and Hate will try to sneak back in, but when they see Love sitting on the couch they run.

God loves us so much and He wants us to love as well. He wants us to choose love, share love, and fill our lives with love. He wants us to love each other as He loves us. He wants us to make Love our permanent house guest and best friend. Open your door then. Invite Love in. Let Fear and Hate hit the highway. Make your home a happy one now and forever.

Hi Everyone.  It is a sunny morning and we are headed up to 87 degrees this afternoon.  This is the day for the housekeeper to be here.  This evening we have our annual Sunday School class spring social.  This will be where it has been held the last two or three years and will be catered by the same BBQ Restaurant as previously.  There is always plenty of food served buffet style and a nice time to visit with some of the folks one may not know as well as others in the class.  This morning I have to make a trip back to the place for the CPAP supplies as when I went yesterday all but one of the employees had been called to a meeting and the man left to keep the office open couldn't help me.  I hope I have better luck this morning.  Then I will stop at Walmart to pick up our grocery order.

Mary Ann, the signs the landscape company always put up a sign saying to keep pets off the lawn for 24 hours and then apparently it was safe.  Here they don't put a sign in the yards but I don't see any pets running wild so apparently it isn't a problem.

Lloyd, glad to read you are obeying the instructions you got regarding your leg.  Hope your area escaped the bad weather that was in the Missouri area again last night.

Callie, glad to see you escaped the brunt of the storm. Sometimes the weather watchers can overdo the bulletins a little too much but I suppose better safe than sorry.  That is a nice amount of rain.  Glad you could spend time with Emily as know those are precious moments for you and also for her.  Arby's has added some new food items but I still almost always get the classic roast beef and put a lot of Arby's sauce and horseradish sauce on it.

Shirley, sure hope you escaped any damage from the bad storm and you didn't get the hail as that can do so much damage.  Hope your family doesn't get any damage in the Kansas City or Warrensburg area either.

June, sorry to see you didn't have a good day yesterday and hope you will be feeling better and more chipper today.

Amy, nice to read that your hubby is feeling better this morning.  I hope you can find time for some cat naps and have an easier day.  It has been long time since I heard frogs as haven't lived close to water for a long time.

Gloria, you all were warmer than we were here in the South.  Something wrong with this picture!  Sorry that your AC failed you last evening.

I am taking a break after trimming the queen size quilt for g-daughter.  It is ready for me to sew the binding on it - one entire side of the binding by machine and I will finish the back side on Sunday afternoon with the quilt group - the old-fashioned way by hand stitching.  It is therapeutic and quiets the soul.   :)

We had an entire day of rain here in Denver and that was so refreshing.  Snow in the high country but not much.  We can see the results of a mad house on the roads here - so many people moving here that this house could be sold in a half day - any house, really.

Tomorrow, our group is going to a quilt show and one of the group is showing her fantastic quilts - she is mid-80's and still designing.  She has even written books - my group is way beyond my lowly skills and they are awesome.  I do not use the word awesome lightly.

Take care all.

Got to tell someone .... can't believe I did this just now but my ears are still ringing & "picture it".... my eyes are spinning in opposite directions, and I am laughing my silly head off.  Most of us try not to answer those darn phone calls with no human on the other end, (no satisfaction slamming the phone down), but some of my phones don't have caller ID.  My husband planted phones in every room & 2 portables & one wall with 25' cord in the family room). Sometimes when I'm expecting someone to call I will just pick up & so angry if a robo call, but the last few days the ones about security systems pauses to give the person time to say if they are interested in a FREE system... so yesterday I shouted "TAKE THIS NUMBER OFF YOUR CALLING LIST!!!"  Didn't work, got same voice today (just as I was closing my eyes for a quick nap).... so I walked over to my purse in the hall, portable phone in hand & pulled the pigtail of the personal alarm attached to the purse, put the alarm next to the speaking part of the phone & enjoyed the moment.  It nearly stops my heart, ears hurt so bad I feel like "tossing my cookies"...  I had not thought this through & forgot I had to put that pigtail back in the little hole to shut it up!  Took a little while, did notice the phone had been hung up fast so someone must have been monitoring.  I will do it again but will have a light on so I can plug it up faster.  Hey, this doesn't happen every day in Kansas. :bonk:  :dizzy:

Shirley, you  have me giggling like crazy here, what a great idea!!! I have just set the phone down and walked away from a telemarketer but never thought to use the whistle......thank you!!

Hubby spent most of the day in bed getting up only to eat and get something to drink. I do hope tomorrow is a much better day for him. He is using his rollater too!!

High wind here with speeds up to 100 k..put both vehicles in the garage out of harms way I hope.
Carol, that is the part I also like doing, sitting at night and hand  sewing the binding on, Today I have all the blocks done for a rail fence quilt so maybe tomorrow I might put it together, will see how the day goes.

Hope Jane is ok..

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Amy, since your husband sounds like such a trooper with all his medical issues, I will worry with you that he is staying in bed and even behaving (so to speak).  My mother always said the changing weather (cold to hot or hot to cold)... is a difficult time for the "elderly or sick" because the blood doesn't change as fast enough as the weather.  Extra prayers for you both.  At least with a whistle you can quit blowing ... my head is still ringing and I'm still laughing at doing something SO DUMB!

Another terrible situation in Hawaii, the videos are so dramatic and so heart breaking for everyone.  My kids have all loved visiting the islands, wonder how long it will go on and affect the tourist industry.  Sure seems like we have had one disaster after another in the last few years, more than the rest of my whole life.  Maybe just because the news media covers things non-stop these days, you think?

hi all. I'm just a bit busy what with all the holding and feeding and cuddling. And then there's the visiting and reminiscing with my two granddaughters while Emma sleeps. She's absolutely beautiful and she does look like her mother did when she was born.

I'm not doing a lot of communicating because I left my eye drops in Texas and my eyes are really bothering me. My daughter is bringing them tomorrow.

There was a lot I wanted to comment on but I'm beginning to see double. So ill wait until later.

Goodnight Everyfriend. God be with you.

Good Saturday morning.   Just a quick good morning to all the early morning friends.

Jane, so happy that you are finally able to enjoy seeing little Emma.  I am sure that it is very happy time for everyone.

Sorry that you are without your eye drops, but hopefully, when your daughter brings them to you,  you will be able to enjoy your visit even better.

Keep on enjoying holding and cuddling that sweet little Emma.

I am on my way to the dentist this morning.  And, then, hopefully a stop at the Amish market.  That will be a nice treat, as I haven't been there for a good while.    Lots of goodies are on my list.

Hope everyone will have a special Saturday.

Good morning everyone..

What a nasty night!! High winds knocking out power all over..Babe was so scared she shivered. I ended up taking her to the other end of the house where the noise of the wind wasn't so bad and sleeping on a bed chesterfield. This makes the 3rd time we have lot power this week, never has this happened before that I can remember. Hope that is the end of it.

Joy, good morning, enjoy your time at the market! Nice to poke around and see all they have.

Jane, enjoy your time with Emma, drops or no drops hugs feel the same.

Shirley,I agree with you, he has come through so much and now this darn cold.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, cooler this AM at 56°. the last 2 days of summer heat has left and rain is due later. One of my neighbors cam in yesterday to check my AC. My son in his hurry did not  get the hose in right Thursday so that is why it was not working right. Slept great last night because it was cool enough in here.
The landscapers that come here put up signs when they ferilize the grass warning to keep animals off but one man lets his dog walk where she wants and pays no attention to the signs. Not a good time to visit the big island in Hawaii with the eruption and then in New Zealand where that huge sink hole is. Crazy things going on in nature.

LARRY  glad the humidity did not jump up along with the heat.

CAROL  I can no longer hokld a needle to sew anything. Do not apprecoate what we do every day till we can no longer do it.

SHIRLEY  I would love to do that with those darn unwanted phone calls. If I did here someont would be banging at the door or calling 911.

AMY  hope your hubby feels like being out of bed longer today.

JUNE  hope today is better for y ou.

JANE  no fun when your eyes give you problems. Glad you are enjoying Emma and family.

JOY  I would love to go to an Amish market but none in the area.

Have a great day.

Unhealthy Anger
Rosemary Renninson

Striking out in anger and frustration NEVER brings an agreeable healthy solution between peoples.

Most often it DIS-EASES situations.

Best to step back when losing our peace.

We can excuse ourselves for a few moments.

We can take time to pray. We can call on Jesus for His Peace, and politely wait until we are filled with His Peace before responding to people, or returning to any conference table.

Let Jesus’ Peace first be in ourselves in all our doings and sayings.

When we don’t say those things that we may angrily think and feel, and when we do say only those Peaceable, Loving, Truth Words of Jesus’ Spirit we will be gratefully Blessed by Him, as well as being a Blessing to others in any situation.

Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame! Benjamin Franklin

When anger enters the mind wisdom departs. Thomas à Kempis

Anger is a wind which blows out the lamp of the mind. Unknown

Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured. Unknown

NOTES

By repeatedly allowing free reign to the venting of strong, adverse emotions, we literally, physically produce damaging chemicals which are released in our bodies! This causes unpleasant, even painful knotting nasties in the tummy, which also causes us the many other discomforts, illnesses, even the diseases, suffered in our lives; the more especially when accompanied by unforgiveness, resentment, envy, jealousy, withholding godly love, grace, good manners, and the like.

EVERYONE IS OUR NEIGHBOUR

All the above, works against ourselves and our relationship with our Lord as well as against our neighbour(s).

It is much wiser and healthier to allow the Holy Spirit to work with us in letting things go in favour of Holy Spirit led Truth and Peace, and our Lord’s Justice and Righteousness, for our own Spiritual, Emotional, Mental and Physical Health’s sake, as well as obeying and pleasing Jesus our Lord, which also makes us a blessing to others.

Hi Everyone. We expect to have a mostly cloudy day and a temperature in the uppper 80's.  Nothing on the schedule for today other than to fix Pat's breakfast when she gets up.  We had a very enjoyable Sunday School class Spring party last evening.  The food was good, the accommodations were great and the spending time with friends over a good meal was what made the evening.  They had enough food left over after everyone had what they wanted so most of us were able to put together a nice box to bring home and that will be our dinner tonight.  I don't have any plans to go anywhere today as wasn't feeling up to par yesterday and it started again this morning so will just take it easy and rest.

Carol, I sure don't envy you and that traffic situation in your area.  Glad you got some needed rain.  I hope you enjoy the quilt show today.  I have attended some of them with Pat over the years but I know we won't be going to anymore of them.  Do you subscribe to the Missouri Star Quilting company magazine.  It is a bit pricey but has no advertising and they use very high quality paper and printing with beautiful quilts and related information.  Pat has received it since they started it and really enjoys getting each issue.  I think they put it out every two or three months.

Shirley, you answered a concern Pat raised about the volume of the alarm on your safety device.  Pat had watched a video about it and was concerned as it didn't seem to be very loud.  I reminded her she was controlling the volume of the sounds on the computer.  I loved your description of how the sound left you.  I have tried blocking the numbers but these call centers obviously have many numbers to use so that really doesn't stop them.

Amy, I either don't answer the calls from unknown numbers or if I think it might be a local call based on the number and it is a call center call I just hang up.  Sorry to read that your husband didn't have a good day yesterday and hope he is able to be up and around today.  That sounds like a miserable weather night you experience last night.

Gloria, glad you finally had a cool night to sleep.  Did your neighbor fix the problem with the AC?  I saw the news about the volcano in Hawaii but haven't seen any pictures showing the damage.  I am sure the news this evening will cover it for the normal 15 seconds or so.  I liked your piece about anger and the quotes are so true.  I remember so well a saying I learned from my Grandfather and that we are taught as a Mason.  This is if you cannot speak well of a person you can at least remain silent.  I have tried to apply it throughout my life and it has served me will.

June, sure hope your upset stomach is back to normal today and that you were able to get a good night's sleep.

Jane, you have your priorities right in spending as much time as you can with the new great granddaughter.

Joy, I misunderstood an earlier posting from you as thought you had the dentist appointment yesterday.  I am surprised your dentist works on a Saturday.

Lloyd, you have to give your body time to do the healing.  That gives you more time to watch Westerns.  :)

Lloyd:  May you recover from all the pain!!!

Jane:  Such a sweet time you are having  Good for you and so good for the family.

Gloria:  There are a lot of things I no longer attempt - so it goes.  Hugs to you!

Amy:  My neighbor and I are going to look at a few quilts being shown by a gal in her 80's - she has many ribbons, written and designed patterns & books.  Glad to call her a friend.  We are going to Golden, Colorado to the Quilt museum.  June (the quilter) is showing her quilt - I don't know which one.  Privileged to know her and in this group so much talent.  I an way beneath their skills.  but - I make pretty good desserts when they come over.   ;)  You would be welcome.

Larry:  The crush of people has happened so fast - we see too much impatience and actual anger out there - some always have to be in front and weave in and out - it is a sad situation. You would think that there was a Gold Rush - not so.

I will check out the Hawaii news for an update - fire from the ground, that looked dangerous.

We just bought a new charger for the phone, etc. and 1/2 of it doesn't work.   Wonder where that thing is made?

A new day…..same old lady. I feel like I want to just stay home laying on my bed with a book, but I am going to make the body go down for lunch. I am tired of washing dishes.

My typing is acting up too.My fingers get lost on the wrong keys. After  years of touch typing I am getting things all confused. I guess age likes to play these dirty little tricks on us.

Jane, I am seeing double at times now. another new thing. If I close one eye it is a singular object…two eyes at times doubles things up. I'll have something new to tell my doctor.

Larry, I think it may be a good thing for us to have a blah day now and then. Makes us appreciate the good days that come along. And I am so thankful that the only pain I have is because of that pratt fall I took. My back is still objecting.  I have learned the importance of locking the wheels believe me !  Stomach is fine today, thank you !

Carol, I too am un-talented….in all areas. To the best of my remembering….Joy is our famous quilter.

Time for me to close down and get ready to go downstairs for lunch. No walking planned for today. I am just eager to go eat and come back home to bed and book.

hello my friends!  I have my eye drops and my eyes feel better.

We,all the girls and I went to the biggest garden center I've ever seen today. My daughter bought some things yo take back to Texas and my granddaughter bought a bunch of stuff for her house.

LARRY, that saying has been part of my life forever. My mother said it a bit different but it means the same. She always said "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

I used it with my kids too.

Gotta go!  It's my turn.

Good to see a post from you, Jane.  I have a near neighbor who I try to tell that too, He finds fault with everyone.

Carol, I think all little towns have changed, and not for the better. We live in Glenwood Village, very large mobile park.  A new section was built, about 80 home will go in. They want a different name. When we moved in 35 years ago everyone was so friendly.  Everyone would wave, say Good morning, now the walker look straight ahead, if you wave driving by, they just look at you.  Years ago if the garbage man left the can out in the road (which they make a habit) a walker would take the time to set it off the road.  When my husband was sick he set on the front porch, when the weather was nice, folks would say HI, or take a moment to chat.

OK sorry, think I have said enough

June a big hug.  Just keep posting, we need to see you

Gloria, also thank you again for taking the time to print such interesting articles

Wow, what a shock!  I started a post on WordPad, had quite a few comments & decided that bed looked good enough for a nap.  I was up in the wee hours with charlie horses in both legs, painful enough to keep me up a couple hours.  Anyway, had my nap & got on the computer to check weather before heading off to find cats to feed.  Seems Microsoft had updates & restarted my computer and LOST MY WORDPAD I was working on~~~It saved the one that was open & named.  Not fair. :tissue:

Janie, I also heard Larry's quote growing up but since my father was a 32nd Degree Mason (Mom a Catholic) I thought they just taught it to each other.  I did make a comment to a long ago neighbor that was full blooded Apache, we talked about her saying something was "the old Indian Way" and I started laughing and said, "my mother always said that "is the Old French Way".  I guess we all heard much the same growing up and believed their "Golden Rule" teachings were right, you think?

Larry, I do believe we all were taught the same love of family and home growing up, especially in the midwest, other areas of the US had their own personal quips, but with this international family I kind of think we hang together because we still carry on the same love of kindness and desire for peace and caring that carried us through wars and life.  Thanks for the reminder. I have one saying my father wrote in my "autograph" book back in grade school days.  Don't dare quote without getting it out, you'd think after 80 years it would have stuck in my mind, but I have a mental block when remembering something so dear to my heart.  I will get it out & see if you heard it as well.

Right now on TV the Kentucky Derby is on, loading the horses into the chutes and one of my favorite few minutes.  Still gives me a thrill to watch those graceful monsters strut their stuff. One year we drove through that town on Derby Day on our way to visit my husband's mother.  He was upset with the traffic and I was taking it all in and wished we could have stopped to watch.  I am concerned for their welfare with that track so muddy today, risky for breaking a leg in their rush to win, not to mention danger to the jockeys.  My daughter & I used to watch the line up and without telling each other, wrote down the name & number of our pick... we did pretty good, too bad we weren't betting  ;).. but a couple years a horse was injured and that is so sad.  Great race & that owner never seems to age from one year to the next!

June, your comment "I am going to make the body go down for lunch. I am tired of washing dishes" cracked me up, can't think of a better reason for going out to eat!  My eyes have done a complete switch this past year.  I used to be a little near sighted & a little far sighted, my glasses were like binoculars that magnify when you look through one way and turn them around and everything looks smaller.  Because I need the long distance for driving, my eyes finally adjusted to let me see the speedometer without taking glasses off.  This year I talked the Ophthalmologist into putting a less strong distance prescription in the bifocal and it works like a charm on the sunglasses.  No bifocal in the transitions that I use on gloomy days (I don't drive at night).  I don't need glasses to read. Our eyes change like the rest of our body as we get older, I guess.  Good luck with yours and have a better day tomorrow.  EDIT: a thought, do you suppose our eyes get wrinkles like the rest of our bodies?   :crazy2:

Better go feed cats, they will leave home if I don't shape up.  Love y'all.

GloriaDe, our neighborhood has changed, too, but I have been pushing the waving & just go ahead & start talking when a walker gets close enough to hear me.  I decided it was time to take control & lead the way to being friendlier... may be thought of as the "crazy little old lady", but have had a chance to visit with several neighbors that seemed to be as glad as I am, to share our lives. You do have some very caring neighbors, thank God for them.

Janie, Do you use prescription eye drops ? I have two types that are over the counter. One is Visine, and then someone recommended Liquid tears. I'm thinking I should talk to my Dr. and get her opinion.

Gloria de....thank you Sweetie. I needed that hug just now. I am getting to be such a "stay at home", there is not much to relate. I'm so grateful that I have nothing to complain about. Our temps have been going up the past two days....too soon for me. I like it cooooool. :-\

Good Saturday evening to EVERYFRIEND.

I have been so busy talking and taking in the beautiful things around here that my posting has suffered.  I miss you all when I do not get in here.

Thank you for the nice comments about our new bundle of joy that is on the way.  You are right SHIRLEY, there is something very extra special about the first new baby.  I am very anxious to find out the sex.....and believe it or not I am not really wishing for a girl!

Today we drove to Cambria, San Simeon, Hearst Castle and to see the  MANY Elephant Seal’s.  No chance to go further up the coast as the 101 has been washed out and will not be open again for a good long time😢!  We did not do the tour of Hearst Castle as we have done it before and I am not sure I could handle getting around there.

CAROL, good to see you and Don made it home.  I am very pleased at the amount of rain we received in our area.  I hope we can get together one of these days in the near future.

JANE,  I have been thinking about you and your joy of being with the family and Baby Emily.  Sorry about your forgetting your eye drops.  Enjoy the rest of your time there.

It is getting late so Mark should be getting home here pretty soon.

We all got up at 4 AM this morning to watch the launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base of the rocket headed for Mars.  That was quite the view to see!

Enjoy your Saturday night.

Good morning everyone..

A lovely sunny day here with a temp of 42° at the moment. Still a lot of people over the province without power 375000 as of yesterday. My friend thought they would have power back on last night but have now been told it will be Tue! They are one of the lucky ones as they do have a generator. My son hunted high and low for another generator as he had lent his to his friend . He had to do some travelling but he ended up with one and so did his friend Now David can leave one at home and take the smaller one on the road. His friend needed it to get the water out of his basement.
I can't imagine how people are doing, thankfully it is not that cold but a house would cool down during the night.

Roley, good morning to you.

Carol, what a fun time you all will have  and oh my what eye candy you will see. Hope you had a great day looking at all the wonderful quilts. I would love to come over! There was/is a quilt show this weekend but with the power outages I don't know if it was on or not.

Gloria, thank you, he is feeling a bit better this morning. My friends also have this crude and she said they too were feeling better. So far I have avoided it and hope my luck stays with me.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Get Out of The Car!
(purported to be a true account recorded in the Police Log of Sarasota, Florida)

An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her voice, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!"

The four men didn't wait for a second invitation. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then it dawned on her why. For the same reason she did not understand why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12 packs in the front seat.

A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed.

Moral of the story? If you're going to have a Senior Moment, make it memorable.

Hi Everyone. We in for a sunny day with it getting only into the low 80s.  I am ready to go to Sunday School and Church but it will depend on how I feel when the time comes.  I didn't feel well all day yesterday until last evening when I started feeling better.  So far this morning it is the same.  I just got back from taking my PT Cruiser out for a short trip to be sure the battery stays charged up.  I seldom drive it and haven't all week.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.  I stayed in all day yesterday and took it easy (of course I take about every day easy so wonder how I can tell the difference).  We did enjoy the leftovers for our dinner last evening that we brought home from the Friday night party.

Carol, having been to the quilt museum in Paducah, Kentucky I have an idea of what you probably experienced at the one is Golden.  The gold rush involved the idea of a pot of gold but today it is a pot of another kind in Colorado and other places.

June, I was glad to read you were going down to lunch yesterday.  My mother was seeing double and the eye doctor was able to treat that with a prism in one lens of her glasses.  Is the problem affecting your reading? I agree about the blah days and appreciating the good ones. I wish I could be near enough to give you a big hug but will just send some cyber hugs your way.

Jane, glad you got your eye drops.  That sounds like quite a garden center and they are probably pretty busy at this time of the year.

deAngel, it isn't fun to be around people who are negative all the time.  I always feel they must be terrible miserable and that isn't a good way to live life. Just now my neighbor came over to use my phone as she had locked herself out of her house.  Fortunately, she has family nearby that have keys.

Shirley, I sometimes use my Google Mail compose function to write something I don't want to lose as it automatically saves things as a draft.  After I no longer need it I can just delete it.  Your Yahoo mail may do the same thing.  I sure hope those charlie horses gallop away and don't return to your legs.  I agree that saying about not speaking ill of someone goes back to the "Golden Rule".  We who have grown up in and now have very loving families are very blessed.  It breaks my heart to hear of situations where that is not the case and the children are not wanted to given the love they need.  There are a lot of hugs at Al-Anon meetings to express our care for each other.  However, in this day and age I would never give anyone a hug who hasn't given me permission to do so.  I don't recall anyone at a meeting ever declining one although I do know of some men who are really not comfortable with it.  I am not one of those.  I didn't watch the Kentucky Derby yesterday.  I think you may be like me in never really seeing a stranger. I also find most smiles I give are returned.

Jenny, it sounds like you are going to need a vacation after your vacation there in California as you sure are keeping busy.  Years ago we saw a space mission launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida when we were staying at our time share.

Good morning Roley.

Amy, sure glad you have your power back.  That must have been some storm. Glad your friend has a generator.

good morning Everyfriend! It's a beautiful day in Oklahoma....at least where I am. Later today we'll be heading back to Texas and then tomorrow Courtney and I will dead east.

JUNE, 3 of my eye drops are prescription for glaucoma and the fourth is a moisturizer. My granddaughter had a moisturizer that she shared with me and that helped somewhat. But I was glad to get the others.

If I don't answer someone please forgive me. I really don't like typing on this iPad. I wish you all a good day. Our big plan for the day is to take a four generation picture.

Good morning everyone 59°. Yesterday turned into a perfect spring day. In the mid 70's all day and a nice breeze. Not even a fan on last night. Overcast this morning but might be sunny by afternoon.

LLOYD  hope you pain is a litte less today. Amazing your leg did not break with the hit it took. This is one way to get you to do nothing but not a nice way.

LARRY  not nice when one does not feel  up to par. That was how I felt Friday. I even called and canceled my CNA for the day.  For more tha 2 weeks I was getting a call several times a day from different states about getting a reduction on my student loans. Something I never had. I never pick up my phone if I do not know the number of the name, let the machine pick it up. Yes my AC is fixed. A neighbor looked at it, the conneter at the end of the hose was backwards. My son is not used to these portable ACs. This neighbor installs many  for the residents here. A real handyman to have living here.

CAROL  bet you saw some awesome quilts at the Quilt musuem.

JUNE  hope today is a better one for you.

JANE  there is only 2 people I cannot say anything good about. Imagine it was your turn to hold Emma. ;)

GLORIA de this town has changed since I first moved her 68 years ago. Everyone friendly back then. Now too many move here from the cities and some are trouble makers. All those stories I have posted were some I saved that JOAN posted over the years.

SHIRLEY  these days not many believe in the Golden Rule.

JENNY  on my many trips to San Diego I did not see much of California. I mainly went just to be with my daughter and her family. In the week they took me to Arizona I saw more of that state than Ca.

ROLEY  hope you are feeling good.

AMY  it is not OK when we lose power, even for a short time. Hope you do not get tha "crud" either. Seems caregivers seldom do until everyone else feels better. Thanks for the giggles.  Love that story.

JANE  have a safe trip home.

Good afternoon, cool and waiting for rain.

Gloria, as I wrote yesterday, I spent most of the day out side. Last nigh for the first time in months I slept all night and woke up about 7,  Guess fresh airs made the difference.  Hope you are feeling better,   When we visited Calif. we took a bus to Lake Tahoe for gambling.  So we saw a lot of the Rocky Mts.  We did spend a day in San Francisco

Shirley, would you believe I still have my autograph books (4)

June. my eye doctor told me to use  Systance  eye drops 4 times a day. I have the starting of macular degeneration BUT not to worry at my age

Jenny, nice to see you taking the time to post.  enjoy your stay. By the way I set all my golf equipment to my Grandson Luke in Vermont.  I just wish he would become a golfnut like his Nana. He does play once in a while.  I have a neighbor who is like me,we played on the golf course that stays open all winter.  Of course we use colored balls :) in the snow

haha ...Oh, Amy, that really was NOT MOI but my kids would swear it "could-da been".   (Get out of the car).....

Gloria, I wondered if the term "Golden Rule" even showed up on Google, it does and to be honest, I really didn't know who to credit it to.  Interesting... The "Golden Rule" was given by Jesus of Nazareth, who used it to summarize the Torah: "Do to others what you want them to do to you." and "This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets" (Matthew 7:12 NCV, see also Luke 6:31).

GloriaDe, got out my auto-book & will post a few of my favorites.... The date was Christmas 1946, my oldest brother was home, released from a German POW camp at the end of the war in 1945.  Hope you come up with some to share!

Larry, from my father:
If a task is once begun,
Never leave it til it's done.
Be the labor great or small
Do it well or not at all.

Funniest of all, this from a kid I went to school with for 12 years and only saw at a couple reunions after graduation.  Always had a great sense of humor but we heard later he took his own life.  "On my honor I will do my best, To help myself & cheat the rest."

Again I have a cat looking at me because it is past time for our walk to the river.  Can't believe how many HUGE catfish are waiting for the bites of bread.  I tried getting photos last night but water too mucky & I can't focus & toss bread at the same time.

What fun it is to read again and remember the names.  I even took it with me when I went for treatment to the States and many of the doctors and interns signed it.
I wish I could know what became  of them all, since I uprooted so far away.

Good morning everyone..

Sitting here listening to the loons call...love it!! Going to be a beautiful day here. We are off in a bit to the city, hubby has another procedure to day, he is not looking forward to it either.

Yesterday I looked out the kitchen window and thought one tree was funny, went out and wiggled it and it had rotted on the bottom . Took all three pieces down and the neighbour took it with him to the dumb. I had brought the original from where we used to live, this was an offspring of it. I enjoyed watching the birds in the fall eat the mountain ash berries from it.

Shirley , I do hope you can get some photos of those catfish!! What fun you must have feeding them. I agree with the saying if you are going to do a job ,do it well or don't do it at all. We have followed behind other carpenters that we have had to repair their work so we could do our own.

Jane, safe travelling...can't wait to see all the phots of the new baby and you!!

Larry, I have heard so much about that quilt show but know I will never get there. You were at the cream of the crop for quilt show.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Amy, be careful taking down a tree.  Sometimes they just don't fall the way you think they will.  In 1996 Hurricane Fran went through here and we had so many trees down or leaning dangerously in our yard.  The price quote from tree removal companies was astronomical.....many were gouging because soooo many trees and limbs were down all through this part of NC from the storm.  We refused to pay their unreasonable price so Tom and I bought two chainsaws...his was gas powered and mine was electrical.  It took us more than two weeks but we cleared all of the downed trees, limbs, and debris from around the house and clear down through the woods to the creek.  Tom called me "Chainsaw Granny".  We were so proud of the job that we did together.

Pretty day here and a little cooler than the last couple of days have been.  David (son) is off to downtown Raleigh for jury duty today and for however long they will require him to come in.  He is not looking forward to dealing with the downtown traffic and all of the state government workers that are down there but he will manage.  As for me....it is Monday so it is wash day.

Good morning, girls (boys aren't up yet)........

Phyllis, I was about to mention that Cas & I took down more trees that you can imagine.  When my sons & I started going to the mountains in CO, Forest Rangers explained to us that "orange rings around a tree meant it needed to be cut down."  Did that ever please the boys!  We rigged up a rope, had a rather heavy metal "pully" left over from some odd job, tied to one end of the rope so we could throw over a large branch at least 3/4 to the top.  The pully would drop the rope down to us so one could pull both ends to make a tree fall the direction wanted.  First they would chop a notch on that side and then one pulled while the other chopped.  Works like a charm and that rope & pully is still in a plastic tub, along with hatchets & still travels.  No more trees to take down in the campgrounds, but we have used it quite a few times since living in this house.  Many years ago Cas bought me a Stihl chain saw for Christmas (he got lots of laughs at the Petroleum Club for that!!) I had wanted it to cut slabs of tree bark at a logging place in MO. I painted raccoons inside a hole I would dig out of the round part of the bark &  sold at arts & craft shows I went to spring & fall. Still have the chain saw but now have a smaller electric one that is easier for me to use around the house.  A certain satisfaction in doing something we didn't know we could do, huh?

Amy, so sorry about losing the tree.... I have a flowering almond bush that came from the first house we owned when we got back from England in 1957, starts have moved a number of times, & a start went to my son that was born when we lived in that house. I have other plants from my mother that are special.

Bubble, Janie, Gloria & anyone else that has those old autograph books, pull them out & share some of the funniest or best.  I have a lot of the "roses are red, violets are blue, if I had your face I'd join the zoo"..... we were about 11 when my was dated.

:hb3: Happy Birthday, Joy... Hope it is one of the best ever!    :hb3:

I had an interesting experience returning returning from a walk to the beach this morning: I was attacked by a crow(s). They were assembled in a tree making a lot of noise and as I passed by I felt what was like a sharp smack on the back of my head. As I stood there wondering what hit me there came another attack and this time I just got a glimpse of my assailant; a large crow perched defiantly on a nearby limb hurling imprecations on me and my ancestors.  Seeing as I had come in peace I left accordingly.

Hi Everyone. The sky is clear this morning and we are to have a sunny 85 degree day.  My calendar is clear for today so expect to stay home all day.

We had a big turnout for Sunday School and once again I led the hymn singing as none of the choir members were present.  I did meet two new families visiting the Church yesterday who were sitting beside me (an older couple who had moved here to be near their daughters) and a young family.  Our new youth minister was introduced.

I did watch the end of the golf tournament which was won by Jason Day, who is from Australia. A few moments ago I spoke briefly with my old coffee drinking friends at McDonald's where I use to have coffee with them several times a week. Video calling is great.  They hadn't changed much in the three years + I have been away from there. It was a nice way to start the new week.

Jane, hope your trip back to Pennsylvania is a pleasant one.  I bet those dogs will be happy to see you when you get home.

Gloria, glad you had a nice day yesterday.  We had a bit of a breeze yesterday and it didn't get too hot. While some of the young people today may be our age before they get their student loans paid off that is not a problem for our age group.  I remember my folks paid $70 a semester for my college and the books were free if returned at the end of the semester.  I lived at home and took my mother to work in the town where the college was located so only had the added expense of meals.  Nice you had a resident who is a handyman and I bet he enjoys helping others.

June, nice to see you were feeling up to attending the Chapel service yesterday.

deAngel, many years ago I attended a two-week training course in San Francisco and had time to do sight seeing, including riding the cable cars, after work and on the weekend.  The only other time I have been in San Francisco was to attend a SeniorNet board meeting to be one of the representatives of the online folks.  It was an exhausting trip but it was a nice experience but they spent a lot of money bringing in several people from over the country for a three hour meeting.  One of the board members was an executive of one of the big software companies and he and his wife hosted an evening get together in their beautiful home in Marin county.  It overlooked the Bay and had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We have the cedar chest in our bedroom that my father gave my mother as wedding present.

Shirley, I agree with the adage of your father about doing tasks.  I follow that same principle and once I start something I want to see it completed. I wonder why I am not surprised at Cas buying you a chainsaw. That is about the last thing I can imagine my wife ever using.  You are indeed a very interesting person.

Don, I never heard of someone being attached by a crow.  I hope the peck didn't hurt you.  You must have invaded their territory.

Bubble, it was a custom for our high school students to write in our yearbooks.

Joy, once again I wish you a very Happy Birthday.

Amy, I feel for your husband.  It seems once we get started with the doctor appointments there is always another procedure or appointment.  I hope it all goes well for him.  Over the years Pat and I have visited many quilt and fabric stores.  The biggest one is a place called G Street Fabrics in Rockville, Maryland.  https://gstreetfabrics.com/ The nicest quilt store we ever visited was on top of English mountain in Tennessee.  There was a beautiful view and it was a large and interesting place.  That is where Pat bought the whole cloth king size off-white pineapple pattern that she spent two years hand quilting.  We have it displayed on the wall in our entrance hall.  It is beautiful.

Phyllis, you two must have made quite a site with the chain saws.  I had an electric chain saw when we first moved to Georgia but it was stolen out of our garage along with other tools that I had.  I never replaced it.  I bet you all saved a lot of money doing the work yourselves.  Is David's jury duty just for a week or the duration of the trial if he is selected for a jury.  Over the years I was called to jury duties several times and was selected to be on three juries.  The first one was the worst and we were sequestered for a couple of days.  It was a murder trial. It was an eye opener. When we lived in Maryland my wife was called to be on a grand jury in Montgomery County and that term was for six months. I don't remember how often they were called to meet but know it was fairly often.

The 7-Ups of Life
(Author Unknown)

1. Wake Up - Decide to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice & be glad in it." Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up - The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart." I Sam 16:7

3. Shut Up - Say loving things & learn to listen. God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. "He who guards his lips guards his soul." Proverbs 13:3 "Gossip betrays confidence, avoid men who talk too much." Proverbs 20:19 "Listen to advice, accept instruction and in the end, you will be wise." Proverbs 19:20

4. Stand Up - For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good..." Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up - To the Lord. "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up - For something higher. "...press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

7. Lift Up - Your Prayers. "Do not worry about anything; instead pray about everything." Philippians 4:6

I don't recall having an autograph book at graduation as most signed the yearbooks.  I do have an autograph book of my mother's cousin and how it ended up with me, I can only guess.  I'll look into it one of these days and if there are interesting posts, I'll post them here.  What is interesting to me about that book is that so many of the people who wrote messages were family members.

Happy Birthday Joy, may you have many more.

Stopping to catch my breath.... pool person coming this morning for half payment to completely re-do the pool, tile & all & new cover for winter.... that I understood could be walked on!  Cats may do that.  At first I thought prices being quoted were a joke (from all companies), hopefully have chosen the best, was recommended by a neighbor's father.  We didn't pay this much for our first house! If I don't get it done the hit will come when I leave the house so may as well spend now & have the benefit of less work!

Mary Ann, my autograph books were in elementary school, and we did all sign year books that most of us bought every year from 8th grade thru 12.... (long before middle schools).  We had 7 elementary schools that dumped into one high school, Think our class started out with about 350 (8th grade) in a 3 story building.  Back in those days there was a separate Catholic school and separate Negro school.... was before the term "black" was politically correct.  Some kids dropped out to work, the draft years were before me, not a whole lot went on to college unless they wanted to be teachers.  Had a business college my sister went to, but a friend & I went to what had been designed as a "basic training" school for control tower operating, teletype, reservations, etc. in Omaha. The things I wanted to do were not "proper" and I had no ambition to be a teacher, secretary or nurse, much less get married.  Life happened & I didn't fight the hand I was dealt, honestly.... and no regrets because any other direction would not have led to this point, and I am satisfied with my choices.  Lots of things I would have loved to do, still don't admit I can't still do them but probably not likely.  :crazy2:

By the way, Larry, thanks for the kind description of me, sounds much better than "strange person you are".   :2funny:

Not getting the job done, have towels in the dryer to fold & much to do have the house & me "presentable" before pool man comes.

Gloria, hope you feel better today, this hot & cold weather is hard on us.  I've been saving about everything you post to send on to my kids or a friend that doesn't check in here.  Thanks.  Have a question for you, does PSP 9 work on Windows 7?  That was the version Glenn Curtis recommended because it came with Animation Shop. When I had Win.7 on this computer (upgraded from XP) I thought I read it would not, so bought 2 other versions that I can't understand how to use.  The one thing I want most is to keep PSP working, & have my son-in-law adding new memory & working over my little 12" laptop instead of buying a new tablet or whatever they are called.  I know he'd put 7 on but since my son put it on this computer & Windows 10 sent a message that they were installing 10 that evening ... even tho I had been saying NO day after day... so son was here when they installed to answer the questions "they" asked.  I can't organize photos like with XP or even 7.... with 10.  It has a few features I like but mostly don't like 10 & don't want MS to force feed me 10 if I have SIL upgrade me to 7.  I hate being bossed around.  >:(

Shirley, I remember having an autograph book, probably in grade school.  If I looked seriously for it, I might find it, but I'm not going to look for it; too many boxes in the storage room.  I know, or think I know, where the other one is.  I wonder if kids do that today.  I have no idea how many grade schools we had when I was young but we had four high schools, one vocational high school, one Catholic high school (several grade schools) and one Christian high school.  The high school I went to has been turned over to a City High School where advanced students from all over the city can go.  There is no north end school now and the south end school was closed years ago so there are now two high schools, no vocational school, two Catholic schools, two Christian schools.  Of course, surrounding the city, there are other, newer high schools, including the area where I live - I do not live in the city, but just outside.  Except for a sign, you'd never know when you went from City to Township.  The suburbs have Grand Rapids City surrounded so it is impossible for GR to grow.  Each suburb has its own high school.  We never had a separate school for black students, however, most of them lived in the south end.  Later some of those students were bused to other schools and it amused me one day to read a house ad that mentioned the house was in the Aberdeen school district.  The house was in the south end and I lived in the Aberdeen district in the very north end.  I did not go beyond one semester at Junior College, my mother died that fall and a year later I started work and stayed with the company nearly 44 years.  By July 1, I will have been retired 32 years and while I won't say I'm still going strong, I'm doing OK.  I loved my job for many years and tolerated it for the last few years.  'Nuf sed!  All I ask of the company is that they get my pension check in my bank the first of every month - and they do!

I've been watching the weather channel while I talked to Dot a few minutes ago and viewing the lava flow; it's almost unimaginable.  How horrible.

The quilt show was at a large church.  June R. talked about each quilt, big and small and the entire show took over 2 hours.  That is because she had a ton of quilts to show and there were many given to charity and friends which we did not see.  It was amazing that someone could design so many patterns and she had done this in the last 35 years, she is well into her 80's now.

Sunday afternoon, I brought my quilt project to our group - they had an all-day work shop.  I couldn't take the time and had my morning with a bible study.  We had a wonderful lunch and I feel so good after listening to the real experts and their ideas.

I should call the high school that is blocks away - to let them know the darlings are out speeding and whipping across lanes on their lunch hours.  No one cares about the chaos they cause - I remember the tree in Texas near our home - 4 teens died when they were racing to get back after lunch and crashed into that tree.  Still, the school never banned outside lunchtime.

Shirley:  We can't believe prices either.  I hope you have a lot of enjoyment using your pool.

I am going to check on the lava flow - it sounds so devastating.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

We continue to enjoy our time here in California.  Tomorrow we will have to say goodbye and start our drive south for our flight back home to Colorado on Wednesday.  We are sad our time is nearly over but I am also very thankful we had the opportunity to be here.....it has been fantastic!

Today we drove to The Mission San Miguel Arcangel,  just a few miles North of Paso Robles.  Very interesting tour.  We really did enjoy learning the history of this place.

There are many, many wineries in this part of California and we sure have enjoyed looking at many of them.  The grounds, buildings and vines are lovely to look at.

JANE, I was sure hoping we would be able to see a picture of your little Emma, but guess we will have to wait a bit longer.

GLORIA de, you and my Mark would sure have a good time chatting.....he ðŸ'•ðŸ'• to talk about golf!

We just enjoyed eating a bowl of Clam Chowder....I do believe it was the best I have ever had.....so delicious and full of clams, and I have had some mighty good chowders on the East Coast!  Yummm.

I wish you all a good rest of your day.

Jenny

Joy, it sounds like your Birthday was just about perfect. I am  so happy for you.

It was a quiet day here at Rowntree. There were things to do but I didn't get involved. A cloudy day mostly, but pleasant. I finished a book and enjoyed it. And had a really long deep nap. When I woke up I thought it was morning. I pray you all have a peaceful night. Love, hugs and prayers, are all coming you way. June

Good morning everyone, 45° and light fog this morning.  Did not beel to great yesterday and of course my CNA was not feeling well so took the day off. Will see if I get one today. The one who comes on Tuesday and Thursday was in the hospital with double pnuemonia. She was OK last Thursday. I jad a couple of autograph books fron school but they were thrown away years ago.

I left school at 16. My Father had a massive heart attack and was lucky to survive it. He could no longer work and since I was the last one at home I went to work. I was the only one from a large family that liked school and wanted to graduate. I wanted to be a teacher back then.

SHIRLEY  yes PSP 9 works in Windows 7. I had 8 installed plus 11 and 12 Ultimate all at one time. Now I cannot  get any installed so cannot do PSP anymore. abd I miss it. I would ask my grandson to try installing but he is always so busy I hate to bother him. Those here doing PSP are using 10 and say it is OK. I am using 10 now but still would have preferred 7.  My grandson installed 10 when he hac my PC at his home in December.

MARY ANN  there were several primary schools where I lived and from there we went to the closest Junior high and from there to the one high school. There was a vocational school and several Catholic schools. I always wanted to go to Hawaii but seeing what is happening now on the big island I am glad I am not there.

CAROL  when they built a new high school I was awazed at the size ot the student parking lot. 2 times as big as the teacher one.

JENNY  all good vacations have to end but you can take pictures and memories home with you.

JOY looks like you had a wonderful birthday.

JUNE  have a good day.

LLOYD  glad the swelling is going down on your leg. Think it will be some time before it stops hurting.

Have a good day.

Two Days We Should Not Worry
Author Unknown

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance; Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today.
Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities
Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad,
it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened
Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.
Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful morning and we will be in the low 80's this afternoon and party cloudy, although it is to be sunny this morning.  I have a busy morning planned as have an appointment with my podiatrist to get my toenails trimmed.  I should get a discount as only have 8 nails left to trim but sure that won't happen.  I then plan to stop at Lowe's to put some painting supplies so that Elizabeth can paint our front porch columns, which she prepared last week.  Then I hope to stop at Costco for gas and a couple of items and finally at the strawberry stand to get another half gallon of strawberries.  That will be plenty for today.  I did wake up around 3:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep so finished listening to an audio book and then got up and ready for the day.

Gloria, was sorry to read you weren't up to posting yesterday but nice to see your posting today.  However, those were good pieces you posted especially "The 7-Ups of Life".

Sandy, Jason Day was pretty much in control all day long although a couple of others did provide some challenge.

Shirley, hope the pool redo turns out great and that you will have less work to keep it up.  I went to a Teacher's college, Northwest Missouri State, as I wanted to be a teacher.  However, that was not the way my life turned out and I also have no regrets about it. I don't think you are strange at all but just a great and interesting person.

Carol, that was a long quilt show you attended.

Jenny, you all have had a busy, but obviously very enjoyable time in California.  That clam chowder sounds great.  It has been quite awhile I have had clam chowder.

June, do you ever wish when you come to the end of a book that there were just a few more chapters to read?  I like books that feature a main character is continuing series.  I hope you had a good night and will have a good day today.

Lloyd, glad you are getting better and how the pain when you walk will soon lessen and go away.

Shirley,  Oh!  you are NOT strange at all.

I, for one, just enjoy your stories so much............whether it is about the cats, your cooking, your adventures down to the river, your travels out to Colorado, and whatever else you write.  I just wish I had 1/2 of your energy to do all you do!!  It boggles my mind sometimes when you write all you can do in a day.
LOVE IT !!!

I still tell people about the day you stopped your car to help the little ducklings across the road.  You and my DIL would be good together. She would have done the same thing.

Thanks so much for sharing your interesting life  with us all.

I woke at five this morning and stayed awake as my meds come in at six.  Then I took an invigorating shower.....luke warm. Sandy says she takes cold showers..I tried it and liked it, til the weather turned cold. I will work back to the cold when summer arrives.

Larry, Many times I have wished the book had another chapter, and some of the authors have written three and four following books as the 'family' grew.
Right now I am reading something different and enjoying learrning. It is titled,"Making your emotions work for you." by Harold Sala. I am learning, and enjoying.  The cover says, 1. Coping with stress. 2.Avoiding Burnout. 3. Overcoming fear...and  more.

It is going on 10 o'clock so time for my morning stroll.  see y'll later.  June/

I'm all the way home and sitting in my own office chair!  Traveling is nice and spending time with family is about as good as it gets.  Holding and cuddling Emma was tops!  But the trip home was tiring and I'm glad it's over.  I just really wish Emma, Allison, Dan, Cindy and Jim lived closer because I'm thinking that this could very well be the one and only time I get to see Emma.  I thank God for his kindness in making this possible.

I told Allison that she needs to send me at least on picture a week until I'm gone and that she needs to tell Emma several times a day that GG loves her every day of her life.  She promised she would.

SHIRLEY, I think they are all wrong about you.  You are strange!  So am I!  So is Joy and Sandy and both Glorias and Larry and Amy and Lloyd and...well, you all get the picture!  If we weren't all so strange and different what on earth would we talk about?  Now there!  I've said it and I mean it!

I've got a load of wash in the washer and one in the dryer.  My suitcase is unpacked and put away and I've had a lovely meal.  I found two Susquehanna University Food Service meals in my fridge with a note from Bridget saying, "I can't eat either of these and I usually just don't take them but I thought you might be tired and not feel like cooking so I took them for you!"  Isn't that a sweet thing to do!  She took good care of the doggies and loved the chance to be off campus for a while.  She sent me pictures and messages all the while I was gone.

Washer stopped and as soon as the dryer does, I'll make the switch and then I'll do whatever.....

I MISS EMMA!

Jane, I know travel is tiring, but just think, you were able to travel to see Emma.  Maybe in a few years, her family will be able to travel to see YOU!

I think I've mentioned it here that I expect to take one last trip to Indianapolis June 1 for a few days.  My deceased cousin's family lives there and they have been my second family.  I am looking forward to the trip and visit, but I'll be glad to be home after that.

Janie,  glad you're home safely and had a good trip.   Hope it didn't storm while you were in Tulsa.

Hot, windy and sticky outside today.   Weather guru said "10% chance of showers" later today.  He didn't mention "storms" and I hope he's right.

Hummingbirds are humming, flowers are blooming and I'm alternating between "productive" and "leisurely" days.

There is a large pan of fudge brownies cooling and it is for the last Wednesday meeting for women at church.  We feast and talk on this one day each year.  Just great!

This was my 2nd afternoon on hand-sewing the binding and I think I am half finished.  Listening to an audio book - I like history and this is about Patten - Don's uncle fought through Africa and up under General Patten and never said a word about it when he returned home.  He refused to talk about that time.

Jenny:  That was a wonderful trip for you and Bob!  Nice for you to have time to visit with California son as well.

Janie:  You had a memorable visit as well - I hope they have a lot of photos with your family and especially with newborn Emma.

Mary Ann:  How are you going to travel to Indiana?

Well, I don't know if I'm dumb or the camera's are too smart.  They've all sent photos to my email and I've tried twice to forward one to Bubble to post for me but it only goes as far as my "sent" box.  And then I keep getting a box that wants to know what I want to do about the mail in my "sent" box.  How the heck do I know what I want to do with it.  I don't know how the heck it got there in the first place.  And, of course, none of the people who sent them are here to bail me out.

So I guess you won't be seeing any pictures of Emma. DRAT!  Now I'm going to go do something physical to get over my MAD!

Carol, I have unique transportation to Indianapolis - Friday my nephew Tom and I will drive to Merrillville IN where we will meet my cousin's son Tom.  We will have lunch - my treat - and my things will be transferred to the IN Tom's car and Tom Tock will head back home.  Monday Cousin Tom and I will head for Merrillville IN again where we will meet Nephew Tom, have lunch - also on me - the two Toms will switch my belongings from one car to the other, Cousin Tom will head south and Tom Tock and I will head for home.  We've done it this way for a few years now, ever since I decided I did not want to drive or fly to Indps.  Including lunches, each trip is about six hours, but the lunch is a break so it isn't a constant six hour drive.  I used to drive to Jim's in about 5 1/2 hours and I made one stop at the intersection of US12 and US131 near the MI/IN state line.

More than you wanted to know!  Ha!

Oh, Jane, I'm so glad you realized we are ALL strange (in our own way).... I really wasn't hinting for approval, honestly I have reached the age/stage that I am comfortable with just being me... as someone said, "warts & all".  Cas was so reserved I did kept ME under control all those years & for the rest of my years I'm going to just enjoy each day.

Not sure if it will help, but when I get photos from others I usually have to download them from my mail & send instead of forward.  I don't know how to do it on the phone.  Right now I have a ton of photos taked this week that everyone sent to my phone & getting them to my computer is really out of my ability with a tracfone.  I tried to convince them to send to my e-mail but nobody llistened. They are on my e-mail ON THE PHONE.

Just talked to my daughter & her daughter that brought the 6 month old last week was diagnosed with shingles today.  She is on that awful crohn's medicine that shuts down her imune system & guess the baby got shots/vaccination for chicken pox & ...bad news, mama got the other version of "the pox".  Not supposed to happen, but it did.

Larry, my husband got a degree to teach industrial arts & math from Mo.State Teacher's  College (different name now) in Warrensburg, MO....  I could not imagine him being a teacher, no patience at all ... he even sent the Principal's son to the office his first day of student teaching.  Made such a gasp with all concerned that he was offered job after job from schools that "needed a tough teacher for troubled kids".  Thank goodness he had an offer with an oil/gas company to start in as a draftsman & a whole different world.  It takes a special type person to be a good teacher, more now that 50 years ago.  As calm and accepting as you seem to be, I think you would have been a great teacher.

Sandy, I happened to see that one of Willy  not long ago, sure changed his looks, didn't he?  The friend I used to camp with in CO bought his house "up in the canyon" outside of Denver. It was on about 20 acres.   They kept buying houses that needed TLC to give her something to do...  It was completely restored by the time I saw it, she said it had been "partied in hard and neglected" so they probably did okay.  They were having to have the hillside of pines sprayed because CO was being hit hard by that pine bug.  Guess it was about 1975 when I saw it, not too long after that Crazy came out....  My friend died after years with Alzheimer's.

Mary Ann, so glad you have found a way to visit family you love and I do the same, find a way to pay when anyone does something special for me.  Enjoy your visit and I'll bet it really won't be the last.  I've said that about my trips to the mountains the last few years & always  ..ONE MORE TIME.

Oh, my, it's getting dark & I still have to go to the store.  Don't like to drive after dark...

Janie, how happy it makes me to see you posts popping up again. There must be someone here that can help you out with the picture sharing….don't give up. Go to photos and enquire.I want to see that baby girl too !!!!!

Amy I was so curious when someone had posted about the call of the the Loons, I found it on the computer and there is so much loveliness in their "song", but it strikes me as Loneliness too.

Phyllis…I'll bet a search on the computer would find information on pruning branches safely. I think it would suggest two various cuts to get the branch to fall just right.

Or here is our Tisie who has done just about everything I can think of. You
"Go" Girl"

Thought I better call in and let you know I haven't forgotten you. Lots been going on. Nicky my eldest has been very unwell. She has an auto immune disease which has forced her into part time work.

I've been miserable with my neck problems. An old injury from a car accident has come home to roost. Arthritis. Pain almost constantly.

Then two weeks ago I got a call to say Nikolas my grandson aged 18 had been involved in a serious car accident. He was hit at 5.30pm head on by a 20 year old driver who had strayed over the centre line. Apparently he fell asleep at the wheel. It was school holidays and Nik was driving one of his dad's Company work vans. He'd just dropped off another employee and taken the turn onto Highway 22 when it happened. He was trapped in the van in a critical condition. The emergency services had to cut him out. Lift him through the roof.

He was rushed to our foremost hospital for orthopaedic surgery. He was  stabilised then they did MRIs. He had a broken pelvis both sides. A badly fractured femur, a broken foot. Concussion. Cuts over his arms and head. No facial injuries. They operated on him approx 15 hours after the accident. It is truly a miracle he survived. The vehicle he was driving is just a mass of crushed metal. He had an angel on his shoulder.

He is already home in a wheelchair. Main thing they have to watch for is infection. He's had a rod put right through the bone marrow of his thigh. I saw him on Saturday. He is thin and very pale. The head injury makes him very tired. A nurse is visiting. Luckily they have walk in showers etc at home. He has been given special equipment for the shower and toilet. The pelvis they leave alone to heal naturally. He won't start intensive rehab until the pelvis heals properly.

We are just so thankful he was spared. We could have lost him.

Haven't read all the posts here yet so will comment on another post.

Carolyn, I'm so sorry to hear of all the bad things happening to you and your family.  My nephew's widow had a similar accident with their van, broke her pelvis, had a chest injury where she hit the steering wheel and I don't remember what else.  She was in the hospital for a week or so, then went home and after about six weeks could return to work.  I hope your grandson recovers as rapidly as my nephew's widow; I know it is hard on everyone.

Good morning everyone.

I thought I had posted yesterday???
Good news from the test all is well for another 6 months. The weather has been so nice that everyone is thoroughly enjoying it. Took my vehicle in to the body shop as I have a piece of moulding that is lose and they will fix it for me.

Today we need to go to the feed mill for dog food and I need to bag up more pine needles. Just general work about the house.

Phyliss, this was a small tree that a sew and axe and a good push knocked it over. I sold my Pioneer chainsaw many years ago. The kids and I would take off to the back fields and cut trees down then cut them up for firewood. I enjoyed the work .

June it is a lonely call, a haunting one too. I love it at night when two loons are calling back and forth across the lakes. Enjoy seeing them swimming on the lake with their babies on their back.

Carolyn, I wish a speedy recovery for your grandson. and hope you feel better too! That happened to my son, he was stopped behind a vehicle that was turning ,it turned in front of a on coming vehicle which crashed into my son.He ended up with a broken leg and minor injuries.

MaryAnn, I laughed at all the Toms!!Enjoy your trip.

Jane, glad you are home safe and sound with a heart full of memories. Hope you figure out how to post the photos.

Gloria, I am enjoying these warmer mornings also, but did put a wee fire on just to take the chill out. We won't need one for the rest of the day.

Larry, waking up that early makes a day long. Hope you could grab some cat naps.

Made a strawberry rhubarb crisp and put some in the hidey hold for you.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'll be off to WM this morning to see is anyone missed me while I was gone.  Then I have to stop by my church and pick up some things that I need to work on for the youth awards ceremony later this month.

Working on the awards is the only thing on my agenda other than work today unless I try sending a photo to Bubble again today.  I'm trying to decide if I want to frustrate myself further with that.  I'll let you know later.

Carolyn, it's nice to see you again but I wish you had returned with better news.  I'll keep your family in my prayers.

I slept well in my own bed last night.  I wonder why it always feels so good to come home?

Enjoy your day, my Friends!

Good morning everyone. Think I was in bed before the chickens last night and awake before the rooster this morning. 44°. Had a different CNA yesterday. She was very nice. Some don't seem to want to do anything but this one couldn't do enough. Not a big talker either. The fog here burned off fast here yesterday but along the other end of the state it lasted till noon time. On the local news just now the showed the south shore again and it is a thick fog again. 0 visability in Newport. Clear here.

LARRY  Elizabeth sounds like a very busy young lady and not afraid ot work. That is a treasure these days.

JOY  I am with you about all Shirley does. Even on my good days I would never have been able to keep up with her.

JUNE  woke this morning with birds chirping. Been a long time since I heard them here.

JANE  know what you mean about never seeing family again. I fel t that  way when my daughter got married and left for San Diego. Then every time I went there when I left there and had all I could do not to start crying. After more than 40 years I am glad for all the times we have been together and thank God for Skype and our daily visits on it. She sent me pictures of my granndsons often and I have so many of them now. I look at them often.

CALLIE  one of the tenants jung a humming bird feeder off the front porch but have not seem them yet. Maint enance man's wife used to hang one there but no longer does. Love watching them.

CAROL  looks like that last meeting with the church ladies is a fun time.

MARY ANN  glad you can still make that trip.

SHIRLEY  I often wished I could get into mountains. Highest place here is only Jerimoth Hill 812 feet and is on private property and you have to get perission to cross their land to go there.

CAROLYN  prayers for your grandson and a full recovery.

AMY  darn I am too late for your strawberry rhubarb crisp. I do like rhubarb and used to make a pie with it, nice and tart.

Have a good day.

Tomorrow is not promised
Author Unknown

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, they serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are and who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be: your neighbor, child, long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you and at the time they seem painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential strength, will power, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul.

Without these small tests, whether they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be like a smoothly paved straight flat road to nowhere, safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life and the successes and downfalls you experience create who you are, and even the bad experiences can be learned from, In fact, they are probably the poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart...

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again...

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen, let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high...

Hold your head up because you have every right too. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself... for if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either. You can make of your life anything you wish.

Create your own life and then go out and live in it! "Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last...Tomorrow is Not Promised".

Good morning on this beautiful sunny morning.  Supposed to be a nice warm day.....  warm enough to go down and sit outside for a while.  I did sit out a little while yesterday,  but it was chilly when the sun went in.

Ha !  Ha!  Ha!  Jane ! I loved what you wrote about us all.   Yes, sometimes I think the whole world is crazy. !  That really make me laugh.  So happy that you had such a nice visit with your family and got to spend time with little Emma.  You will eventually figure out how to get the pictures in here.

Sandy, thanks for the links for the song "Crazy".  That was always a favorite of mine.  Loved Patsy Cline.  And Willie sure was a good-looking guy when he was young.  Hard living can really  change a person.   Still love him, tho.  He is a real legend regardless of his lifestyle.  And, Patsy was gone way to soon.

Carolyn, so sorry to hear about your grandson.  Sure hope he has a quick recovery period.  I guess he feels very fortunate because that serious an accident could have been a lot worse.  He is young and I am sure will do well with his therapy.

Good morning to all the early morning friends.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Joy

Hi Everyone. It looks like it well be another nice day here in the mid-80's.  Pat has a doctor's appointment this morning and then we are going to pick up Elizabeth to come out to do some more projects for us.  I picked up the paint and brushes yesterday for the porch columns.  Then we she will install the two remaining slide out shelves we have for our bathroom.  There are several other things we will ask her help with as well.  It was such a relief yesterday to get my toenails trimmed and my toes no longer hurt. This evening is our Wednesday night dinner and then visit with Scott.

June, no cold showers for me.  In fact I want the water to warm up before stepping into the shower.

Jane, glad you are safely home and hope you have a day or so to rest before having to greet your customers again.  I see you are back behind your counter today. Have you thought about using Skype or one of the other computer video calling apps so you can see Emma and she can see you.  It is the next best thing to being in the room with someone.  You make a good observations about us all having our unique characteristics.  That is another good example of why we each bring our own personalities and "strangeness" here because we are each unique.  That was very considerate of Bridget to leave you something in your fridge for your meal.  Were your dogs happy to see you?  If your email is in the sent box it would appear that it was sent and now the program is asking whether you want to delete it or do something else with it.  On Gmail they just stay in the sent folder until I go in and delete them.  I did this a few days ago and cleaned out a lot of folders.  Since I have very few occasions to refer back to most of the emails or other things I have saved I deleted about 10,000 files the other day.  I plan on just keeping things for no more than a year.

Sandy, I don't think I knew that Willie Nelson wrote that song for Patsy Cline.

Shirley, I learned early on in our marriage that I wasn't going to chance Pat and shouldn't try.  I have always wanted her to do whatever she wanted to try and tried to be supportive.  Forward those emails on your phone to yourself and you should be able to open in your computer and save the pictures.  So sorry to hear of granddaughter having to endure the shingles and trying to take care of a 6-month old.  I probably wouldn't have done well in the classroom as am too soft hearted.  My brother-in-law taught math at the high school level for about 40 years.  I don't think he had any trouble with discipline as he was a Marine.

Mary Ann, your trip will be here before you know it.

Callie, your area has had enough storms for awhile.  It sounds like you have a nice balance in your life.

Carol, I accuse Pat of just going and chatting when she is able to attend the craft group.  I think the actual work is done by the ladies at home.  Those brownies sound good.

Carolyn, always good to hear from you.  It sounds like life is dealing you and several of your family a rough time with pain.  That was a terrible accident and so glad your grandson survived.

Amy, sure glad your hubby had good news from his test.  I can't say I ever enjoyed working with firework when I was growing up.  I remember the cold cast iron heating stove and how hot it could get.  In my later teen years we heated with oil and then with propane as no natural gas lines in the country where I lived.  I was able to sleep until about 4:30 this morning and then just rested until about 6 when I got up and started my day.

Gloria, the Internet has certainly been a big help in terms of staying in close contact with family members when we aren't able to visit with them physically.  I think our elevation here is just a little less than 400 feet.

Joy, hope you get to sit outside today and enjoy the beautiful weather.  In a day or so we are going to be in the 90's for an early taste of summer.

Dearest Carolyn,
My eyes are filled, feeling the many griefs that have come upon you recently. I pray all of you will recover and continue on with new hopes chasing out the griefs.

I'm just back from my son's Bible class. He is a good teacher, and very well liked. I asked several questions as he spoke and he thanked me later.  So I guess it was O.K. to interrupt.

Now it is time to go down for lunch, and all I want to do is go take a long nap. I woke at three a.m. and never did go back into a real sleep…..so    you know how   my
afternoon will be spent…..zzzzzzzzzzz

Weather is perfect.76/58

Hope our Lloyd is healing O.K.

I'm off to Dreamland.  I don't know what's happening with my email.  I don't seem to be receiving any.  I'm going to try sending one and see what happens.  I've never before gone 7 hours without receiving something.  Tomorrow's another day.

Good night Everyfriend!  Sleep peacefully and wake to a happy tomorrow.

Good morning everyone.

Nice gentle rain this morning and we could get t storms..which I think is close by judging by the actions of one dog.

Got a lot of lose ends tied up yesterday plus a cat nap too! I am not sure what is happening today, I can work about the house but we will see what hubby would like to do.

Going to make this short as I don't want to lose my post if we lose power.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Have a good day.

Trouble

If Jesus were to do His same ministry on earth today, He would be in trouble with:

the FDA for turning water into wine without a license,

the EPA for killing fig trees,

the AMA for practicing medicine without a license,

the Dept. of Health for asking people to open graves, for raising

the dead and for feeding 5,000 people in the wilderness,

the NEA for teaching without a certificate,

OSHA for walking on water without a life-jacket and for flying without an airplane,

the SPCA for driving hogs into the sea, and
the National Board of Psychiatrists for giving advice on how to live a guilt-free life.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This is my resting day.  Aside from picking up a couple things at the grocery store and picking up Kiran after school, I have no plans.  This is my "resting" day!

All the talk about autograph books reminded me that I do still have mine from my pre-teen/teen years.  I probably can't lay my hands on it right now but I do remember on that comes to mind whenever I think of autographs or Girl Scout Camp.

As foreground, my GS Camp was named IOKA and when I was a Program Aide we had a handy boy (someone to do chores and keep things going) that all the teenage girls had a crush on...me included.  His name was Mickey.  And one day, I took my courage in hand and asked him to write in my autograph book.  He did and this is what he wrote...

"May your moccasins make tracks on the paths of IOKA for many moons" and he signed it "Love, Mickey"  I was the envy of all the girls who didn't ask him to write in their books.

We're supposed to have rain all day beginning about 10 a.m.  Enjoy your day whatever you make of it.

Hi Everyone. We are to have a sunny day getting into the low 90's this afternoon.  I guess summer is here.  Yesterday was a very busy day.  While Pat was at the doctor's office I made a quick trip to Aldi's.  Her appointment took quite awhile.  Around noon we picked Elizabeth up and she came out and had lunch with us and then went to work and painted the three columns on our front porch, put the bug spray barrier around the outside of the house and did a couple other errands.  I took her home around 3 pm and then at 5 we went back to the Church for dinner.  It was just Pat and I at dinner last evening.  This morning I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I have to get some money at the ATM and want to stop at the Dollar Tree after I have taken him home to pick up some sunglasses and toothbrushes to donate for our mission team that will head to Bolivia early in June.

June, glad you were up to attending your son's Bible class.  I think most Bible teachers welcome questions.  I remember just one Minister who conducted a Wednesday Bible Study who seemed to prefer just to lecture and not have the group raise questions and that may not be an accurate assessment but was my experience.

Jane, hope you got your email straightened out.  It is nice we can send an email to ourselves to check things out. Glad you will be able to have a restful day today.  Enjoy your time with Kiran.

Amy, pets seem to sense the approach of rain or other bad weather.  Hope you don't lose power today.

Gloria, sorry that you are feeling worse with your back this morning.  That is not a good way to start the day.  Do you ever use ice on your back.  Pat starts out each day with the ice pack to her back and it seems to help.  That was a good piece you shared this morning and is a reminder of just how regulated our lives have become and more rules and regulations are passed each year at the various levels of government.

I'm not sure what news, if any, you are hearing about the middle east, but all is quiet here. Iran attacked Israel from Syria and were repulsed with remarkable ease. The Israelis then took out major Iranian installations rendering them impotent for now, so the major concern for the moment is the cherry harvest. That takes place on the Golan Heights which could be a major battlefield if hostilities break out. For now it's business as usual and the harvest is going full speed. So, in short, everything is good and almost normal.

Amazing messages in here this morning.

Mary Ann:  That sounds like a nice plan for a drive - it is interesting that you have two Tom's in the family.

Carolyn:  Very good to see your post--- so sorry for your son Nikolas and I send up a prayer for his recovery as well.  I hope he has the best care and recovers completely.  I had neck surgery years ago and it finally mended - sure hope you have great care.  - Please keep us posted on Nikolas and yourself.

Amy:  What do you do with the pine needles?

Gloria:  Glad to hear you had a decent CNA - you deserve a gentle caring person.  Yes, the "rules" continue to grow - we even had more freedom years ago.

Radioman - Don:  Thanks for the personal update on Israel.  Stay safe you two!

Thanks Sandy - I always though Patsy Cline had such a different and good voice - perfect for her time.  They all seemed to live pretty rough lives and it comes out in the songs.

Back to visit with the vacuum cleaner - such a stubborn varmint!

Carolyn, sorry I've taken so long to tell you my prayers are also heading your way for your gr-son. I do know the fright y'all have had and sincerely pray that he recovers completely.  No doubt (voice of experience) he will be watching for other drivers the rest of his life.

I've stopped to read 3 times so far & interrupted before a chance to post..... Gloria, I'm taking you to the mountains with me.  I will send you photos one way or the other, of my favorite spots.  This will probably be my last time to go so have been checking camera batteries.  Last few years I've sent each son off with a camera to bring me back "paintings"..... They hike miles and find beaver ponds that I would love to see, we do drive & get to see a lot, & I do get off the beaten path near the campground.... but not in shape for serious hiking like they do.  I bought my last camera about 6-8 years ago but had 2 before that I still like.... each had a longer zoom so I take a "wide angle" & standing in the same spot, zoom in on details, can't put that brush of oil paint if you don't know what it is.

This was a work in the yard day & I still don't like yard work!!!  Got a yard full of weeds that don't look so bad after the mowers come.  What's so great about fescue anyway?   ;)  My husband loved working in the yard and I had no problem giving him all the pleasure.  He never cooked a meal or washed his clothes in all the years we were married.... we shared the work.

Don, thanks for the update, sad the most sacred soil in the world has to be soaked with blood, isn't it?  The country has been fortunate to have leaders "with guts" enough to protect it.

Carol, I noticed your question about pine needles.... around here we used to gather them to put around the holly bushes & azaleas, but rarely see a pine needle anymore.  That pine needle bug killed them everywhere, like in CO.  The campgrounds hardly have any shade because of them.  The Monarch Pass campground was closed last year because so many trees needed to be cut down. Pine trees don't have good roots so when they die they are dangerous.

I'm late, I'm late.... not for a date but to feed cats & catfish.  I'll take a camera down with me to see if I can throw bread & not the camera~~~

Gloria, ever since my last fall, the only time my back does not hurt is to lay flat in bed. Even sitting, it hurts. No fun ! I sure get a  lot more books read though.

Radioman…..your area does not sound too peaceful, and I am sorry about that. It is so beautiful , it must hurt to have bad things happening.

I am off to an early bed, so I bid you all a very good night…..Peace, health, hugs and Love. June

I have done it AGAIN....... started a post this morning...then got busy and forgot.  Came back in a bit ago, added on to it and then did the terrible “what ever” and it is gone.

We got home from our trip last night.  We are still in awe of the wonderful time we had.

CAROLYN, I am so sorry to read about your Grandson Nickolas’ serious accident.  He was so blessed to have lived through it and I will certainly keep him in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope he will have a complete recovery and that he will not have too deal with unbearable pain.  I wish you and Nicky the best also.

AMY, so good to read that your husbands tests came back clear and he is good for another 6 months.  That is wonderful news.

LARRY, it is sure nice that Elisabeth is able to help out with some needed tasks around your place.  I am sure glad she is willing and able to do most everything you need her to do.

GLORIA, I sure hope your back is feeling better tonight....is there any chance you could ask for the CNA you had yesterday to be your permanent one?  Sounds like you were very pleased with her.

Neighbor came over for a visit, s9 I had bet post this before I loose this one!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

I wrote a long post then went to check on something and poof away it went!
Yesterday hubby wanted to go for a drive so off we went to a wee village to have our lunch then home again.  Love seeing all the new growth on the trees so many shades of greens and red! Today he would like to go get some light cotton slacks so we will head out in a bit. We are going to the place where I have a BIG problem...a chocolate factory and a quilt store

Carol, I put the pine needles on the blueberry bushes one year and now I just use them along the outside of the vegetable garden to keep the weeds down. We used to have a row of pines between us and the neighbour but he cut down about 20 of them ,we still have our 2 out front. I miss the sound of the wind in those pines but don't miss the needles in the eaves.

Roley, Lloyd was here a few days ago and posted this...swelling is slowly going down. but even with pain pills I can barley walk on my left leg. the blisters have burst on there Owen. no signs of blood posing. hope to be able to see you all tomorrow. good night. I sure hope he is alright too. Miss his posts.

Larry, that was the only blurp in the power...on our drive yesterday we noticed a lot of trees down .

Gloria, I hope your back feels a lot better today..I hope you can get the same CNA back as she seems to be a good worker!

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I just realized that I never said Good Night!  I was really tired yesterday and last night I fell asleep while Perry Mason was arguing a case and woke up with TJ Hooker apprehending a criminal.  So, since I didn't understand how Hooker got into the Perry Mason courtroom with his crook, I went to bed.

The rain that was predicted didn't really materialize except for a few minutes while I was waiting at the bus stop for Kiran.  It had stopped by the time the bus arrived.  However, we had some thunder in the distance for some of the early evening so Annie was plastered to my thigh for quite some time.

Going to work today.  Wish me smiles and short lanes.  Enjoy your day and make it a good one!

Good morning everyone. 55° and a beautiful spring day in the forecast. My CNA gave me a wonderful back massage yesterday and my back felt much better after. If they do any thing else while here the back massage is what I really like best. Wish I could start every day with one.

JANE  glad you had a day ot rest yesterday. When I used to go to San Diego I came home on Friday to have a day  to get rested from the time change before going to work on Monday. First time I went I did not do that and had a very long day at work on Monday.

LARRY  don't know how many of JOAN's stories I have left to post. If I could get my firs t external plugged into this PC I know I have more on there, more older ones.

DON  I just saw on the news about that attack. Thank God you, Bubble and family are alright. Cherry harvest? Yum, would like picking some, would eat most of what I could pick. Like picking blueberries or strawberries. Have to taste some from each plant to make sure they are good, right?

CAROL  I have 4 Kevins in the family, one in my family and 3 in the inlaws. 2 were the same age and when they would call I had to ask which one they are. Had another Gloria, too, but everyone called her Becky -her last name Beck. I agree we did have more freedom in our lives and were happier before the smart? politicians came up with all their rules.

SHIRLEY  would love seeing scenic photos. Jenny sends me some at times and I save them to the externa. I have (traveled) many places since I got a computer. If my daughter had not moved to San Diego I never would have gone out of the New England states. I chnge the wallpaper on the PC with a different scene often. On a hot summer day I start putting winter snow scenes up.

JUNE  it has been years since I fell so cannot blame it on that. With so many suffering with arthritis wonder why they still have not come up for helping, then again they still have not cured cancer either.

JENNY  I am glad that Oscar from Bis' Nest told me about notepad and copy paste. Have not lost many posts since then. Yesterday's CNA  was a fill in for a regular one who was out with double pheumonia. I have 2 regular ones and they are both good. I cannot be picky about who i get becaus it does not cost me anything, my insurance covers the cost.

ROLEY/PETER  we all worry about Lloyd whe he does not post. I pray he is alright. How are you doing these days. Nice blue sky here this morning.

AMY  naybe you better wear blinders on when you head out so you do not see the quilt stor and especially the chocolate factory. Now that is a place I would love to go into.  There has only been a couple of CNAs that I asked the office not to send anymore. Most are good but some I like better than others.  The one who was on sick leave does a much better massage with the right pressure. The young ones are the ones who do not want to do anything.

JANE  I watch Perry Mason at 9am. Cannot stay up for the night one. Have a smiley day at WM.

Have a good day everyone.

Threw it out
Author Unknown

Last Week I threw out Worrying,
it was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me;
I couldn't do things my way.

I threw out those Inhibitions;
they were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
started reading it today.

I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
threw out the one from long ago.

Bought in some new books too,
called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD,
Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
and added some thing's Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE and FAITH,
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing
and placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT - its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
there just isn't any place.

Its good to do a little house cleaning,
get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter;
maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

pThank you all for your replies, Thanks Gloria, your reply much appreciated, health wise, 'More up than down' i'm pleased to say but, having a heart attack then a pace maker fitted while fighting this dreaded PPS is something i would not recommend to anyone, lol, but there you go !, that's life, and i do have brilliant wife too, she has now become my carer, in her mid eighties, and after Sixty one years of marriage 'to me' she is priceless!, much like Lloyds wife 'Nancy' i suspect.

Hi Everyone.  We are in for another summer like day with us again reaching into the low 90's this afternoon.  My schedule is clear today so plan on just taking things slowly and easily.  Yesterday morning was very busy and I came home tired.  We cancelled our plans to go to the shoe store and then out to eat.  Pat baked a loaf of banana nut bread using her Instant Pot for the first time and it turned out very well.  I just had a slice of it with my breakfast this morning.  I do have tentative plans to clean out my closet and bureau drawers.

Don, thanks for the insight on the situation in your area.  From what I remember seeing on the news we are getting a different slant on the situation.  Glad to hear that things have calmed down over there.

Carol, it seems every year more of our freedoms are chipped away.  It is a bit like the proverbial nose of the camel getting in the tent.  I often wonder how any of us survived as we were growing up as were not protected with all of the safety things and all of the warning like a hot stove will burn you. Our housekeeper brings her own industrial strength vacuum cleaner so ours is very seldom used although we have a very light weight one if we do get it out.  With the wood floors we use a very light broom and a long handled lightweight dust pan and it works well for us to pick up crumbs.

Shirley, I hope you will share your photos from the mountains with us all.  I know I would like to see them.  Have you considered getting a landscape company to take care of your yard?  To us it is worth the money we have paid over the years to have this service as well as the housekeeping service.  We have pine straw put around our trees and bushes each Spring as there are still a lot of pine trees in our area.

June, glad your bad pain stops when you are laying down.  When my energy tank is about exhausted I find laying down such a comfort and a good nights sleep, as I had last night, very restorative although it doesn't seem to last very long when I start doing things or have to be out.

Jenny, glad you are safely home and that you had such an wonderful time.  I don't think we have anything to will likely need to be done that Elizabeth can't do.  Of course, we pay her well.  She working full time at her first job at Taco Bell for minimum wage so some extra dollars is helpful to her.

Roley, the last I remember seeing from Lloyd is that his leg is still very painful and he is taking it easy. Glad to read you have such a wonderful wife.  My wife tries to take care of me and I try to take care of her.  We will soon have been married for 56 years.

Amy, the beauties of nature are certainly a wonderful gift that God has given us.  I am glad to see your husband wants to get out and do somethings.  What a bonanza with a quilt shop and chocolate factory both on your agenda.

Jane, I hope you get many smiles and short lines today.  Walmart sure goes through a lot of those plastic bags.  However, we do make good use of them in our wastebaskets.

Gloria, my wife is considering trying massage as nothing else is working for her.  Sure glad the massage made your back feel better.  Perhaps you can get your son to plug in the USB cable from the external hard drive and plug the electrical line in and you would be set as it will automatically show up as another drive in your file manager.  (I expect you already knew this.)

This is Teal color:

I can't decide, but teal or aqua is my favorite color.

My cousin called and left a message that somehow I dialed her number on the old cell phone and she listened for a while then hung up.  Don't you ever wonder what you have said when it is private?

We have a new cell phone, a flip top just like I wanted because that crazy open one would dial anyone anytime.   The first call today was - a ROBO call.  Don says one of those robo call companies was just fined really big time --- I say hooray.

Thanks for all the pine needle information.  It is all over this state because of the Pine Beetle infestation.  Very sad to see - but the green is making a comeback.  Nature figures everything out.

Oldest son is stopping by today and taking us to lunch before he heads up to their cabin. He is coming from the airport - he and our DIL like to spend nights at our house before their flights so we call it the family hotel.

roley:  You are doing well after your health scares - great that you have a good and caring wife.  Are you having a mild and sunny summer?

Don hung a bird feeder out and we shall see how much it is used.  If it attracts a messy crowd, it won't stay hanging on the porch.

Jenny:  We are most likely going to the Rio for lunch.  sometime, we want to go to the one you mentioned a long time ago.  One of these days when all of us are free.   :)

This might be my one and only posting for the rest of the day because I'm extremely tired tonight.  I still have to make a quick trip to the grocery store before it gets dark and then I'm not going to do anything!

Carol, my sister lives within an easy drive to either the Harrisburg Airport or the Baltimore Airport.  For many years, when any of our family had occasion to fly from one of them, we spent the night before with them.  I always called in advance and asked if there was a room available for (whatever date) at Chez Wolfe Motel.  My sister, always glad to see family, answered that there was and how many would there be.  We then asked the price of the room and she would answer, "The usual and breakfast and transport to the airport are included also as usual".  The usual price was....nothing!

I'm going to assume that everyone is as well as possible and striving for "better" and then I'm going to get comfortable.  Enjoy your evening.

Jane, the house I grew up in was "staffed with love" like yours.  We lived where the MO State Fair was held so never spent the 10 days of the Fair without wall to wall pallets on the floor filled with cousins or friends. The older people got the bedrooms.

Larry, my lawn crew spends about 15 minutes with one riding a speedy machine & the other weed whipping & blowing the sidewalks. A neighbor timed them, not the best but the cheapest at $40. I haven't found anyone that will even pull a few weeds for less than $20. an hour & if they price by the job, it was $600 to clean up the berm, no planting or anything but weed whipping & cutting out the little trees that volunteer to grow everywhere (mulberry, elm, redbud & sycamore).

If it lasted I would consider, but a week later in summer, the bermuda grass has overgrown the rocks & plants again and impossible to pull.  I don't like using chemicals because of the cats & birds & other wildlife that suffer if they walk across it or eat the insects that are poisoned. For the little they do, my lawn guys get a check for $120- $160 a month. Several older couples in the neighborhood have searched over the years for house & yard help but were not successful finding anyone willing to really WORK. The retirement villages are filled with people that can't keep up with maintenance on their homes and I'm hanging on for me & the cats.

I think the pay is extremely high here because people always earned more than average with the aircraft industry and oil companies. Those of us that grew up in other areas found it less than honorable when workers would show up on the golf coarse during the week using "sick leave" and get double pay to work overtime on week ends because the job didn't get done during the work week. Off my soapbox, it is what it is and I could move, always "choices", right?  My first time at getting old & not being able to do everything! :crazy2:

Yesterday I took a camera down to the river with me, posted a couple photos of the catfish that come when I whistle.  They don't show as big as they are in real life, nearest comparison I can think of is the largest is longer than the calf of my leg from foot to knee & rest maybe an inch or two shorter. The water is contaminated from chemicals that run off lawns & fields and even a dump miles up stream, I would not eat the fish but no harm playing with them.

Gee, I sound negative about where I live, too critical of me.  Life really is good, guess not perfect but tis what it is.

Kia Ora everyone.

It's a wet but warm day in Tamaki Makaurau ( Auckland). We are having unprecedented warm weather. I have a pot of pumpkin, carrot and Kumera soup simmering on the cooktop. We regard Pumpkin as a vegetable. We grow the green variety which is great roasted, steamed or boiled. Kumera is a type of sweet potato. You make the soup with chicken stock. I always sweat the vegs with a knob of butter in the chefs pan before I add the stock. Sweating develops the flavour of the vegs.

I managed to walk the dog without getting wet. We stopped off at the cafe on the corner for coffee. The owner of the cafe roasts and blends their coffee himself.  They are becoming well known and have an online shop now.

In 9 weeks Brooke will turn 21. Can you believe it! She is a very serious student at Auckland University and is hoping to get into a Post grad course after graduation. There is only 15 places in the Course she wants to enter. So far she has got all A Grades this year. She has a part time job on the weekends in a Store that sells work from local artists. Paintings, prints, ceramics etc.  Maori and Pacific Art History, Sociology are her main areas of study. It's a specialised field. She hopes to one day be a Curator. There are 3 career paths from her study but that's her first choice.

It's good to see you all posting. June you weren't well last time I was here so I hope you're feeling more stable these days.

Tomorrow I will have to take my books back to the library. I don't enjoy driving any more because of the volume of traffic we have. Guess that's the downside of living in our biggest city. Only consolation is it is a very green city. Lots of trees everywhere.

Take care everyone. I realised its almost 20 years since I joined the old Senior net. How time has flown!

Carolyn, at 93 years of age, I have good days and bad days. Every day I am thankful, so just do what I can when I can. Mornings are best as I usually have a good nights sleep. Lots to be thankful for.

Good morning everyone..
Another beautiful day here, great for hanging laundry out! We enjoyed our day out and hubby did get 2 pairs of cotton slacks. I managed to avoid the chocolate factory but made up for it in the fabric store .

Running behind and need to get ready to hang laundry out.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's a rainy day in Central PA.  I'm hoping that's not the prediction for the day.  I haven't taken time to look at it yet.

The doggies have had their pill and while we waited for the boinger, I made dog food for the next couple of days.  Now we're all set!

I'm hoping that, since my daughter didn't call a say she was going to the Amish store after work yesterday, that she has decided to go today.  I need some things desperately and if I don't get there soon....

Carolyn, New Zealand has always been on my "bucket list" but I'm quite sure it's out of the question.  However, I'm always avid over any news I hear from there so I'm happy to see a post from you any time.  It makes my day to read about your family and your area.  Keep coming back!

Amy, I came home to a special surprise in my mail.  I'm sure you know what it was since you sent it.  Thank you!

I think I might be hatching a cold.  My throat hurts and my eyes burn last night and this morning.  I think it might be all the air conditioning in the southwest.  They all grew up with a/c and are used to it.  I tend to keep mine much lower if I turn it on at all.

Shirley, I like your excuse about this being the first time you "got old".  I'm going to use that one.

Now I'm going to go work on the ribbons for the youth awards ceremony at church.  I have a week but I'd feel better if I had them done to take in tomorrow.  You all have a good day.  Feel better and enjoy!

We've jumped right into summer with the forecast saying it will be 93 deg. today and up to 95 for the next two or three days.  Humidity is up, too, but that is summer in the South and to be expected.

Like you, June, I feel better in the mornings, too, so try to do all the necessary things then.  After lunch I usually nap and spend the time reading.  We managed to get the weekly shopping done yesterday so I was really tired last night and slept well.

I would love to go to the Downtown Farmers Market today but probably won't make it.  Parking and walking is kind of a problem for me since they changed locations and parking is not right next to the market.  I bought some local strawberries yesterday.  They are the smaller ones right off the plant and they have such good flavor.  Actually taste like strawberries.   I intend to make a pound cake today and have strawberries over it for dessert tomorrow.  Darn!  I forgot to get some Cool Whip!  I must go over to Walgreen's to pick up my medicine today so I'll see if they have some Cool Whip in their dairy case.

I am wondering about Lloyd, too.  He is usually so good about posting every day.

Hi Everyone.  We are in for a very hot day as expect the temperature to reach the upper 90's with no rain sight.  The only highlight from yesterday was that Jennifer stopped by for about 30 minutes.  We hadn't seen her for several days so good to see her.  We got to wish her a happy birthday in person as we won't be seeing her tomorrow.  If Pat is up to doing so we plan on going to breakfast at IHOP and then attend a meeting.  Scott plans to come over briefly to get something before he goes to work this afternoon. This will be plenty for us today.  I plan on watching some of the golf later this afternoon.

Carol, I wish all of the Robocall places would be fined and shut down.  At least you get to see your son and DIL when they come to spend the night.  Hope you enjoyed your lunch with him yesterday.

Jane, you had great rates at the Chez Wolfe Motel.  I hope you have today off so you can rest up a bit.

Shirley, that is pretty expensive yard work.  At our house in Georgia we had a big yard and by the time we left it was costing me around $50 every two week for the lawn care, which was just mowing, edging and when needed trimming bushes.  A few minutes ago I turned our sprinkler system on manual for the first time this year.

Carolyn, I guess you are all in your Autumn season so will probably soon have cooler weather.  Glad you explained what Kumera is and have never heard of it.  I remember you speaking of stopping at the coffee cafe.  Hard to believe that Brooke will be 21.  I hope she is successful in getting into the post graduate program she wants.  We got an invitation to our great nephews graduation and he is now 18.  We haven't seen him for close to 15 years and he has grown into a very tall and handsome young man.  He lives in Minnesota.

Amy, you have willpower if you could pass up the chocolate factory.  Apparently the dark chocolate is very good for us.

Jane, hope you will make it to the Amish store today.  Sure hope you didn't catch a cold from your trip.

Phyllis, you are getting some of the very hot temperatures we are experiencing.  Today is to be around 97 and tomorrow around 98 but back into the 80's next week.  Pat has been enjoying the fresh strawberries and last evening we had our first fresh peaches of the year and they were delicious with a little vanilla ice cream on them.

Gloria, so sorry you are not having a good day but thanks for doing the posting to let us know you are still with us.

It is so nice to see Carolyn posting once again -

Jane:  We have a walk-out basement with large bed, a trundle bed, fireplace and two sofas.  A little kitchen area and a bathroom.  It has its own patio too.  However, most people only stay one night - except the family who visits my neighbors.  My neighbor/friend has a lot of family so one group stays here and we can't even tell anyone is in the house sometimes.

Carolyn:  We only see canned pumpkin until the months to October and so forth.  The combination of pumpkin and sweet potato sounds nice.

Gloria:  Stay warm and toasty.  It is damp and cool here for the next five days.

Last night, there was a crash at the local commuter airport (nearby and also I think is the busiest in the country).  I was on the deck trying to spot the multi-colored flashing lights of a drone searching the acreage.  An engine fell onto a house.  They never fly over our way -- we get the Air Force Academy planes once in a while - a tremendous sound near the mountains. Just sending their greeting :)

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

It is a bit dreary looking out today, but so far no moisture.  They say it will be soggy tomorrow for Mother’s Day.  We must never complain about moisture even if it does sometimes not fit into our plans.

CAROL, I was sure happy that the plane did not crash into any of the homes, as it sure could have easily.  When I saw where the engine imbedded itself in the wall of that home, I was thankful it did not go into the close window as it surely could have caused more issues as the people were in the home at the time.

SHIRLEY, I am sure sorry to read that your granddaughter has the shingles.  Bless her heart.  I do hope she has a mild case of it like I did.

GLORIA, sorry to read you continue to suffer more pain with your back.  Please take it easy and I hope that pain will ease up for you.  I appreciated reading I THREW IT OUT again, however my mind go to wandering again last night and I lost sleep cuz I forgot I threw it out!

JANE, the changes with the Boy Scouts is sure causing a lot of controversy these days.  I do not want to put you on the spot but do you mind sharing your thoughts on this?  I do not have any strong opinions however, I can certainly understand why many are up set about the changes.  I feel that the girl scouting program does pretty much everything as far as I know as the Boy Scouts do....camping, etc., so 8 guess I do not see the need for girls to be able to join the boys.  I know you have been very involved for years and would have a good thought on this.  I know that many feel the Boy Scouting program will suffer with out the support of the Mormon Church.  I am hoping you were able to get to the Amish Store today or that your daughter pas able to get you the things that you need.

LARRY, I knew that you would pay Elisabeth for the chores she does for you, and I am sure she appreciates it.  It is just wonderful that she is will do help you out.  Happy you had a visit with Jennifer.

SHIRLEY, I love reading about your adventure down to the river with the kitties and critters.  I did see the pictures this morning of the cat fish.  I a: anxious to know when your trip is planned so if you will please send me a message so we can see if we can get in a visit this time, I sure would appreciate it.

CAROLYN, continued thoughts and prayers for Nikolas.  I do hope he is feeling better.  I can not believe Brooke can possibly be 21 years old, and yet, we have been friends for a good long time and we have enjoyed watching the girls grow up.  I wish her the best in getting into the post grad course that she prefers.  She is a very dedicated student so I have ever faith that she will be successful.

PHYLLIS, I do wish you were able to get to your farmers market easier.....I just wish we had good farmers markets here to go to.  Maybe I am just expecting too much, but ours just do not meet up to so many that I have been to in other areas.  If we lived in other parts of the city, like out east we might have something more to choose from.

GLORIA de, I a: sorry you are not feeling too well today either....just watch The Players Golf Turney and take it easy!

Oh my, AMY.  I sure am glad to read that you accomplished all that you did already today.....m6 goodness, you are something else lady!  Enjoy the rest of your da6 and if I were to bet, I would not be surprised if you ended up baking the pies!

We are heading out to run a few errands.  Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, and I want to wish all of the mom’s a very

🌹HAPPY MOTHERS DAY🌹

Good morning.

Seems between robin singing his/her heart out and dogs wanting out they thought I too needed to be up.

Not sure what is on for today other than a day of rest
Jenny, as Jane would say I was all in but my boot laces yesterday so the pies didn't get put together.

Mycheal, nice to see you. We had frost yesterday morning but none today.

June, glad to hear all is well in your next of the woods.

Better go feed the dogs..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope your day portends better than mine is.  Back when I was in school we used to say, "I've a little horse.  I got a colt!"  Well, I've got one dilly of a "colt" and I've got nothing left in the house to take for it.

I've decided to try going to church and then making a quick stop at the grocery store on the way home for Yogurt for the doggies, and Mucinex and Cranberry juice for me.  Then I'm going to pamper myself the rest of the day.  I'm a mother.  I deserve to do what makes me feel good....right?

I sure hope you all have a good day.  On top of my aching body it's supposed to rain all day again today.  Rats, Bats and Cats!

Good morning everyone,45°. Feel better today. My DIL was going to come and cut my jair yesterday and I called and cancelled it. Something I always look forward to. I laid ont the couch with the TV on most of the morning and the afternoon I spent in bed sleeping. Got up and met with my daughter on Skype and she cut it short because she could tell I was not up to it. Slept good all night and do feel much better this morning.

LARRY  I am waiting for the fresh strawberried here but that will not be till next month.  A lady I worked with hears ago went to Georgia one year and brought me some peaches back and I never tasted any so good. Makes a different tree ripened and what we get in the markets.

CAROL  I turned the heat up yesterday and finally seemed warm. Rained all day and no sun showing yet but walks are dry now.

GLORIA de  hope you feel better today.

JUNE  no book yesterday, mostly sleep, must be what I needed most. Very unusual for me to sleep most of the day away. I never could lay down and read.

AMY  I don't  remember ever being too tired to backe some pies. All kinds and loved all of them.

JENNY  I renenber when Joan posted  I Threw it Out. I would like it  if I could throw arthritis out. Wish they had some med t o get rid of it or really calm it down when it is damp weather. This town has a farmers market close to where I live but those who went say  prices are terrible. I rather go right to the farm I like, prices are higher than markets but still less than the farmers market.

JANE  no rain is in the forecast for today and by afternoon the sun is supposed to wake up. Rest today, something you have not had time to do since your trip.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers among our special family here.  Hope your day is special, like all of you are !!!!

It is not a very pretty morning outside. Have had thunderstorms and off and on rain since last night.   The weatherman has said today will not be a complete wash-out, and not to cancel any plans.   Big change in the temperature from yesterday.  It was almost up to 90º. and now this morning, about 20º cooler.

I will be going to my oldest son's, along with the rest of my family.  Looking forward to a nice special dinner.  Since he is a wonderful cook, it will be something delicious !

Gloria, I like  "The  7-Ups of Life ".  Something that is easy for us all to practice !

Enjoy your day, everyone !

Hi Everyone.  We headed for another day of mid-90's.  It was about that hot yesterday.  I did water the yard yesterday morning.  Pat and I went to IHOP and had a delicious breakfast and then to the meeting.  We came home and stayed in where it was nice and cool the rest of the day.  Pat wasn't able to get much sleep last night so is sleeping in this morning and I will attend Church by myself.  Since this is Mother's Day we will not be eating out but will have some roast beef sandwiches.  I fixed Pat a couple of peaches (they are small) and had a couple myself and they were so juicy and good.  I did watch the golf yesterday afternoon and plan on watching the finish of the tournament this afternoon.  It looks like the winner has already been determined as the leader is seven strokes ahead but who knows.  They are playing on a really tough course.

Carol, nice that you are willing to share your spare rooms in your basement.  That sounds like a good use for the drone as it could fly lower than a plane.  Why are the roads closed in SW Minnesota?  Are they having flooding?

deAngel, it is not nice to have your doctor not happy with you.  I hope your blood count goes back up and the blood pressure down.  Nice of your grandson to honor you on Mother's Day.  The chocolates sound good.

June, nice to see your posting from yesterday and it seemed much more upbeat than the last couple of days.  Hope you enjoyed your lunch and the good walk.

Amy, hope you can enjoy the gazebo.  I remember last fall when you said you took it down.  Enjoy that big chocolate bar.  You deserve it as a reward for all of your hard work and the good care you give to your husband.

Jenny, glad the people in the house weren't hurt beyond the damage to their home and to their nerves.  That was a strange dinner guest.

Mycheal, where do you do your volunteer teaching?  That is certainly a worthwhile endeavor.  I expect it will soon be warming up in Iowa.

Jane, sorry to hear that the cold has attacked you.  I hope you can get a lot of rest as you deserve it.

Gloria, glad you are feeling better today.  It is amazing what sleep can do for us.  Wish I could have shared the peaches we have had the last few days with you.  I finished up the remainder of them this morning so there is a dish of them in the refrigerator ready for Pat to have with her breakfast. They were so juicy I ate my two small ones over the kitchen sink.  I really liked the "7-Ups of Life".  I am printing it out and putting it in my devotional folder for our Sunday School class.

Joy, that special dinner at your son's sounds great and nice to be with the rest of your family.

Good Sunday afternoon, on this cool and raing Mother's  day. Hope you all have a great day.

I did very well, I now have two boxes of candy, flowers, telephone calls from DIL's and grands Keith gave me and orchid plant. My breakfast brought over by neighbor, along with a qt. of Bloody Marys.  Boy! what better way to celebrate

June, nice to see you are getting around a little, sorry about your back still hurting. Enjoy your family visit.

Jane, I am sorry to hear about you cold.  They say summer colds are the worst.  I know you want to hear me say that   Sorry

Gloria, I toast you with my glass of 7 up.  Now I have say I also enjoyed that post.  Was that summer that went by last week, when it got to 90???  Glad to see you feel a little better

Larry,

I have for years for Community Action.

There are so many unable to balance a checkbook or maintain a budget for the month, so we go step by step.

As a Volunteer I so enjoy It and run the course about 3 times a year.

Good morning everyone..

Another beautiful day here, sun is shining and temp is climbing.
Have a few things to do this morning ,then I had better get at another quilt.

Jane, I hope the "colt"  ran away and didn't leave you hoarse. Kyle also has a colt and this is going on 3 weeks for him. I hope it soon goes as he doesn't need this on his plate!

Lloyd, finally!! Glad to "see" you in here, hope your leg is healing for you.

Larry, since yesterday was a day of rest, I did exactly that. In the afternoon I took pillow, blanket and dog out on the verandah and had a wee snooze on the swing.

Gloria, any word from your son on his apple trees?

Joy, hope you have a nice sunny day today.

Gloria de.....90's is a bit too hot for me...a/c would be running here .

Enjoy your day everyone..

I'm up....not sure if I'm attem yet.  The "colt' is still hanging around but he's not growing into a "hoarse" yet.  I slept away yesterday.  Now I'm going to take some pills and sleep some more.

Hi Everyone.  After a very hot day yesterday it is suppose to only get to 89 this afternoon.  If Pat feels up to it we will finally go to the shoe store and then probably to Honey on the Rock for our main meal of the day. The only thing I did yesterday was to attend Sunday School and Church and then came home as we had food in the refrigerator for our lunch.  On the way home from Church I stopped at CVS and got Pat a Whitman Sampler of chocolates as knew she wouldn't be getting any presents from the kids.  They did send her e-cards and called and she appreciated that on Mother's Day.I did watch the last several hours of the golf tournament.

deAngel, you were well honored by those who know and family that love you. I bet you will have a little more summer before fall arrives.  :)

Mycheal,  thanks for the information on the class you teach.  I am not familiar with the organization called Community Action but it sure sounds like a worthy endeavor.  I did a quick search and apparently we have that same program in our County.  Volunteer work is very gratifying.

Lloyd, glad to see your posting as have been concerned about you.  Customs we use to follow in terms of family get gatherings often change after years.  It is sad but a fact of modern life.

Amy, glad you were able to have a restful Sunday afternoon on your verandah.  It was too hot here yesterday to be outside any longer than necessary.

Jane, sleep is a wonderful cure for colds that have to run their course.  Glad to see your condition hasn't worsened.

A neighbor spotted a cougar in the ravine behind our houses yesterday - am on guard here.  Creepy.

We are meeting our granddaughter in Golden for an early lunch - thankfully, I wrote the time down as I was thinking it was an hour and half earlier and pushing Don to "get on with it" - my mistake.  I made a crock pot of clam chowder yesterday and we have enough for leftovers tonight.

Jane:  Sending you hot chicken broth with a dash of tabasco sauce.

Gloria:  So true that worrying is useless.

Joy:  We had all our children and two of their spouses. It is so special.

Larry:  It was a snow storm and probably ice on the roads - knowing Minnesota so well. It sure is getting hot fast this year -

Mycheal:  Your teaching basic money matters is so worthy.  I commend you for your volunteering.

Amy:  you had a well-deserved snooze on the swing.

Jenny:  This is the 2nd. cougar seen in the ravine since we have lived here.  No deer around this year.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
from the overcast,  but warm, rocky coast
of Maine.

Our weather is going to be pretty much the
same for the next 10 days...  pleasantly warm
with not so much sun but many clouds and
some showers.

(Fine with me!)   :knuppel2:

I heard from my kids yesterday...  and
this coming weekend,  I will see Kirk,
Magaly and Keiry.       Now that they
live in Boston and North Berwick Maine,
we get a chance to see one another more
then ever before.

It is nice to have all of my kids
around these days.    For that I
am very fortunate ...

Everyone is doing well...    My GRand
Daughter Maggie graduated from
Art School this past weekend...

Wow are they all growing up FAST.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

(That is creepy about the Cougar !!)

Still feeling a bit like death warmed over but that's better than yesterday.  I'm not going to work tomorrow.  Just can't face it.

Carol, thanks for the chicken broth with tabasco.  It hits the spot!  Back to the couch!
