A child asked his father, "How were people born?"

So his father said, "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on."

The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now."

The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!"

His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family."

Q. A man is washing windows on the 25th floor of an apartment building. Suddenly, he slips and falls. He has nothing to cushion his fall, and no safety equipmentâ€"but he doesn't get hurt. How is this possible?

Your answer?

So, Bubble, was he on the inside?  Love the graphics & funnies.

This time of year always makes me melancholy, your graphics reminds me one of the reasons.... during WWII, when my brother was in the German POW camp, I'd catch Mother working in a room by herself, crying silently.  Later in life this would be the same period, from Sept., when he was shot down & she went to the hospital for a pacemaker & doctor punctured her lung, until she died, Nov. 25, that all of us took turns, sitting by her bed, day & night, in the hospital, so she wouldn't die alone.  The brother that was released from the POW camp at the end of the war, died about a year after Mother.

Right after he died his wife called my youngest brother to tell him (middle of the night), he called the other brother that lived about an hour away and they decided to wait until morning before calling my sister and me, and telling Dad. Problem with that was my father had a vision at the exact time, that Mother was reaching out to him saying, "everything will be okay, I will handle it"...  Dad thought she meant that he was going to die that night.

He called my youngest brother and said he'd better come right over, he thought something was wrong, didn't tell him about the vision.  The brothers rushed to Dad's house after letting my sister know, she lived less than 30 miles away, I live about 5 hours away. When they told Dad about the oldest son's death, the others had a grin to themselves, that Dad seemed relieved that the vision was not about Mom taking care of him, but their first born. Dad lived several more years, died at 95.

Lloyd, I woke up about same time as you, a cat wanting to go outside. I've never stayed in a truck stop overnight, most of the truckers will leave generators running all night, so I've been told.  Enjoy the drive.... I still don't know what my gas mileage is, don't think I want to know, but "she can sure drink a lot".  ::)  My daughter drove across MO yesterday (from Wichita) and called to say the trees are gorgeous. Safe travels. Been sitting here thinking too long, back to bed for more of those zzzzzzzs.  It's 4:19 my time (central).

Good Morning Everyfriend!  BUBBLE, he was either inside as SHIRLEY said or he was on the balcony outside.  Either way, he was safe.

Today is the day of the INSULATION!  I woke up with a feeling that something good was about to happen and that must be it.  I got all the junk around the "drip" out safely.  I didn't have to carry any of it down the ladder...just dropped it on the floor so I still had my hands to hang on coming down.  And I placed my feet very carefully!

My daily "todo" lists are getting longer and longer but I've noticed that some pretty big items are being crossed off.  I'm not going to panic yet.  I've decided that Saturday is fruit cake day and once that's done and aging, I'll heave a sigh of relief.  Then I'll gather my wits and start the candy.  I'm all set up to spread pb saltines while I watch the Christmas movies.  Incentive, I guess.

Better go get dressed so I can get my day started.

SHIRLEY, I pray this November brings you something to celebrate...ANDY'S RECOVERY!

Hi Everyone. We are predicted to have a partly cloudy day with a high of 81 degrees.  This is going to be a long day as I woke up around 2:30 and was never able to go back to sleep.  About 5:30 I decided to get up and get my day started.  I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee downtown this morning.  Then, as far as I know, we will go for our main meal around 1 pm at the Honey From the Rock Restaurant since we didn't go yesterday due to a change in plans.  Pat and I went to Chick-fil-A for a late meal around 4 pm yesterday.

Mary Ann, I think Scott is finally getting serious about finding another job.  He has lots of experience but I know his age has now become a factor.  However, he plans on working at least 12 more years and in today's work environment it seems most people change jobs pretty often.  It is not like when you and I worked with the same employer throughout our work lives.  I am pretty certain that you do not have fiber optic cable as this is a fairly new technology.

Jane, this is the day you have been waiting for and hope the insulation guy is good to his word and does your work this afternoon.  I am glad to see your work in the attic was safe for you and a good idea to not try to hold onto the container while on the ladder.

Jenny, you must be a good window washer if you had no streaks.  Our outside windows got a good washing with the power washing a couple of days ago.  You must be among the rare group who do not like chocolate.

Amy, I don't remember we ever had more than a neighborhood child or two come to our farm house as I was growing up. All of the houses were at least a mile apart.  The kids would go into our little town where everyone knew everyone else to treat or treat.  I know this may be a very sad day for you and your husband and your other dog.  I know it was not an easy experience when we lost our dog and later the cat.

Lloyd, glad to see you and Nancy have "hit the road".  Glad you have good Internet with the hot spot.  I hope you have better weather to drive in today.  I guess the noise could be a problem with spending the night in a truck stop.

June, glad you were up to attending Gary's Bible study.

Bubble, thanks for starting us off with a new page for a new month.  Those were nice graphics you posted. A cleaver play on words with the countries in the little story.  Was the man washing the windows inside on the 25th floor or on a balcony?

Shirley, what a sad situation with your poor mother and brother.  I know that brought a lot of heart ache.

Have a good day.

Hugs to you, Shirley, for the memories of your family.  I've mentioned that fall is a sad time for me in a way because I've had several family members die from September to December and yesterday was the anniversary of my mother's death - 77 years ago.  I know how you feel on those anniversary days.

Amy, hugs also to you and Golden girl.  I know how you feel too and I remember after our dog died, if anyone said a nice word to me at work, tears came to my eyes.  With an indoor cat now, I am hoping he will outlive me and he can cry instead.

We had no visitors last night, in fact, I didn't hear any kids at all.  I think it is because we live near a busy road and parents don't want their children crossing it.  I didn't hear of any organized activity, but there may have been some.  Just not close.

Today looks rather overcast but it isn't raining.  There is a lot of rain south of us in northern Indiana and I hope it stays there.

Mary Ann

Bubble, you sure posted some cute jokes and I loved the soldier placing the flag on a grave. I would say the window washer was washing the window on the inside, so he only fell to the floor. Correct ?

Bad day for me.....so far...woke at 4 a.m., stomach not happy, so lay awake till after my medicine girl came and left, the later dozed off and on.  At our last dining room meeting I met the main Chef, Chewey. I mentioned at the meeting I missed having pork ribs and sour Kraut. Two days later he met me outside and said what I missed would be on this weeks menu. So. for supper tonight that is what will be served, and I still feel lousy...weak, sleepy, tired. But I will still have my sour kraut and pork ribs. I will order it sent to my room, and if I don't feel like eating it today, I will tuck it in the fridge for tomorrow. Or, if God decides to send me downstairs for supper, I will follow His instructions. Who knows ? I still have to have some sort of lunch here at home.

Llfe always has a surprise for us. Keeps us from getting bored, for sure. Hugs and love, till later. June

I, for one, don't need any more surprises.  I've had my fill of them this past few months and especially today.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for November 1, 2018

Amy, I've thought of you off & on all day.  No easy way to deal with giving up a fur baby, and I think you'd have been back of you had good news. Hugs for you tonight, and your husband, I'm thinking you have a heavy heart tonight.

Jane, what surprise came up today???  Do hope nobody fell through the ceiling.

June, hope tomorrow is a better day.  Sorry about the upset/unhappy tummy.  I haven't had sauerkraut in ages.... my spell checker kept dinging at me until I went to Google to see how THEY WANTED me to spell it... >:(  .... When we used to have a sore in our tongue  Mother would open a can of Frank's kraut & have us eat some pinches of it cold... & the sore would be gone next day.   If it was on the gum she mixed up salt & soda & have us wet a finger, dip in the mixture & pat on... again, be gone the next day.  She had a home remedy for everything & would be at our side, day & night, to help.

An early night for me, cats fed but bet they will show up for more before I turn out the lights.  Word is that Andy is doing okay, they think he might get to come home in the next day or so, but when I saw him yesterday he looked totally out of it.  He had just finished with physical therapy & they were giving him pain pills to make up for it.  By the time I saw him half an hour later (I took his wife to lunch)... he was sleeping or had his eyes closed & I came on home. I hope they keep him over the week end but "they'll do what they need, since beds are full."  Thanks again for your prayers.

Mary Ann, just about every year my daughter & I will remind each other of why we feel sad... she felt so close to my mother (& my mother really did have a special place in her heart for my daughter).  Once I give way to the why of my sadness, I'm okay & deal with it.  My mother was not ready to die and my father was... that's the difference between my grieving for them.

Larry, I hope your son finds a job to make him happy & satisfied.  My gr-son was saying this week that he is checking on a job that will pay him to continue past his Bio-Med Engineering degree, & do research for them,  He is excited and hopes it works out. The company he interned with during college has not kept their promises so he has been working 2 jobs to make ends meet.  He has spent a lot of time with his father at the hospital.... and you can tell he loves being in that atmosphere.  You're right about how people used to work for the same company "forever"... my father worked for Missouri Pacific RR for more than 50 years. He first started as a real young child because his father was the telegrapher.. and then the oldest 3 sons were sent to auto school in Kansas City, their father was determined his kids had the latest training or education available.... even though there was only 8 years of school in the little town where they lived.  Nice to have "the kids" doing well in their lives.  Good luck to your son.

Sweet dreams to all.... special hugs to you, Amy.

SHIRLEY, (and anyone else who's interested).  There's NO insulation in my attic.  The two guys who came to do it were very thorough.  They checked out the attic and discovered two bare electrical wires (thanks to the squirrels, they thought) and the older guy said, "I wouldn't want to cover THAT with insulation." He added that he's not qualified to repair it and that I should call a qualified electrician.  After they left, I bawled for a while, then I worked very hard, then I answered my daughter's text asking if the insulation guy showed up.  Then I call the electrician whose number she gave me.

Now I'm in "wait" mode again.  I got a recorded message from the electrician.  I don't think there is a business in existance any more that actually answers their phone.

At least, the waiting time isn't cold.  The weather got to the low 60s today and was pretty nice after the night of rain.

I did supper for the doggies and me then I took an (unintended nap) and then I mixed the centers for the Peanut Butter Cups.

Now, I'm done for the day and off to bed.  I wish you all a good night and a better tomorrow!

I'm up and attem!  I put away the stuff from mixing the pb centers and then I laid out the stuff to mix the coconut centers when I come home this afternoon...or later in the day.

LLOYD, thanks for the good advice.  I'm taking it and I'm just not going to worry about what doesn't get done.  I'm going to focus on what does get done.  If the electrician doesn't call me today, I'll call him back and if I have to leave another message, so be it!  I'll leave messages until he gets so sick of me he calls me just to get rid of me.

Saturday is fruit cake day no matter what.  It will be baked and set to age before I go to bed Saturday night and that's that!

I slept pretty well and God' answer to my prayer about no insulation for protection was to send Indian Summer this week.  All week the highs are predicted to be into the low 60s so I'm not going to freeze to death while I wait for the electrician and the insulation!  Prayers ARE answered.  We just have to learn to recognize the answers.

I'll be off to WM to greet my public today.  Wish me smiles and short counters.  I wish you all a good day filled with whatever makes you happy!

Hi Everyone. Yesterday we had a cloudy day and then a rainy evening.  This morning is still overcast but 65 degrees.  I see we have a 100% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon so a good day to stay home, which I plan to do.  I did have a very good night's sleep last night but am not feeling up to par this morning as short of breath the feeling exhausted. This is the morning for our housekeeper who will be here in a little while.  Our plans to eat at Honey From the Rock did not happen and we had leftovers for our dinner last evening. I did go downtown to coffee yesterday.

Gloria, like you we had a couple of nice sunny days and now are again having a couple of rainy days.  However, the temperature is nice this morning.

Bubble, that may be about the first time I was able to get the answer for the riddle as I am terrible at those type of things.

June, sorry that you were not feeling very good yesterday and sure hope you don't have to miss out on your pork ribs and sauerkraut.  I don't think I have ever had that combination.  Each day is an adventure in this life, some days better than others.

Shirley, I never heard about having cold kraut to deal with a sore tongue.  It is hard to beat those old home remedies and people were more self-sufficient years ago than many seem to be now. Glad to hear that Andy is doing well.  The insurance company is probably pushing for them to get him released from the hospital.  I am sure he will be happy to get home. I hope the job works out for your grandson.  Are you saying they would pay for more schooling for him.

Lloyd, how exciting that you will get to finally met the twin great grands.

Jane, so sorry you were disappointed in not getting the insulation in but finding the exposed wires may be a blessing if it prevents losing your home to a fire.  Squirrels can do so much damage.  I experienced something similar years ago in a house where we could hear the varmints scurrying around in the attic and gnawing on the wires.  Squirrels also damaged my roof causing a water leak.

Jane, I hope your bare wires can be repaired soon so your insulation can be put in.

Since Amy hasn't posted, I fear the worst for Golden Girl.

Lloyd, if Nancy's legs are swelling, she should get out and walk a bit and if that doesn't help, she should see a doctor - quick!  I'm glad you finally are in Arizona and on the way on your trip.

Larry, while I usually have had hot dogs with my sauerkraut, my mother used to fix pork chops with it and they were so good.  Maybe I'll have to order some of each for a meal one of these days.  I hope June was able to eat them instead of having to postpone eating them.

Mary Ann

Lloyd:  I hope Nancy's leg is healing - hopefully, she can sit and raise it up before you are driving on.  What a wonderful visit for you two - be sure and take lots of pictures.

I will pass on the sauerkraut and instead invite you to eat some Swedish dishes that will curl your toes.  Not exactly delicate fish.

Jane:  It is a blessing that someone found the bare wires - I do hope you can find a friend or at least a reasonable electrician.  I am sorry for this stress.

Hi everyone...

As you might have guessed, it wasn't a good day yesterday but Golden girl is not suffering now. I could deal with helping her up when her hind end gave out but then her breathing was effected.  The long drive up was with some optimism that maybe the vet could give her something.....and the drive back was very quiet.

Shirley, thank you for your thoughts a hugs. ,,and yes heavy hearts still prevail Even Babe keeps looking for her friend.

Jane, thank you and yes, what was done was for her....
I have to say this was good timing on your part on the insulation. If you hadn't put this into motion you might have had a bigger problem. God was looking out for you!!

Mary Ann, I am not moving very fast today and you are right. I do know it was the right thing to do for her.

Carol, thank you for the hugs..they always make things much better.

Aw, Amy, I had to take off my glasses because of tears in my eyes.... Not for Golden, I'm sure she isn't suffering but can't say, "in a better place" because she had the best of best homes ever, with you.  In my world she will be waiting when your turn comes, to make sure you aren't lonely until everyone you love is with you.  My thoughts on Heaven get complicated because whether everyone is with us or not, when in Heaven we can still hug the people we love. It is the people we leave behind that my tears are for.  :smitten:  Poor Babe, I think animals understand better than we do.  When LaurenKat discovered Cas in his bed she knew and never returned to that room as long as she lived. Hugs for you & your loved ones.

Amy,  I am so sorry for your loss.  That has to be one of the hardest things we do - even when we know it's necessary.

JaneS,   sorry the insulation installation had to be postponed but ever so happy the bare wires were discovered before anything awful happened.
Good that you can "take out your frustration" with the candy and fruit cake.  Hope you had an easy day at work.

Lloyd,  you're really "covering ground" getting to AZ!  I can picture you rolling along I-40 across western Oklahoma and the TX panhandle.  Could probably drive that route in my sleep!
Have you run into snow along the way?

Have been out with both sons most of the day....business appointment and lunch.

:hugs:  to Everyfriend Everywhere.

Well there's a new twist to the insulation story.  Last Spring I had two overhanging trees trimmed and when the guy was leaving, he told me, "If those squirrels wanto get on your roof now, they'll need parachutes".  He was wrong!  Mickie has been barking up that tree for a couple days now and I decided that the squirrel was up there even if I didn't see it.  This afternoon she was barking and just as I stepped out the door the squirrel FLEW from that tree onto my roof!  It has to be 6 feet from the tree to the roof.  And he didn't have a parachute or wings or a motor of any kind and he wasn't short.  He could have made it further.

So I called the guy that did the trees in the Spring and he stopped by and now we have problem #3!  Both trees are beyond saving and will have to go.  He gave me a price and I think I must have winced.  And then I told him to deal with the one that helped the squirrel get in and the part of the other one that was in jeopary of falling and taking my storage shed with it.  Instead, he knocked 1/3 off the whole price and said he'd cut the wood and stack it so I can sell it!  I think I'll keep this guy around.

And that's the third bad news I've had.  I hope it's the LAST! Because I can't deal with any more.  I know it's only money and not someone's health in jeopary.  But I'm at my wit's end.  I'm sorry to unload on you all so just ignore me.  I'll muddle through somehow.  Maybe all this rain will turn to coins and I can drag them to the bank.  I'm sure as heck not going to win the lottery because I've never bought a ticket and I don't think the Publisher's Clearing House has ever heard of me!  Oh Well!  That's life!

Good evening.

Amy, I am so sorry to read about your losing your beloved Golden.  It is always so sad when we lose our pets.  But, she is not suffering anymore.

Jane, I am sorry you have had some bad news concerning having the insulation installed, But,  much better to find it out now to avoid a fire starting.  And, then to top it all off,  the news that you will be losing a couple trees.  As the saying goes,  "it never rains, but it pours"

Just to let you all know, my busy day yesterday went along very smoothly.  Didn't have any problems along the way.  Not hopefully will have some good results from all the tests.   Had a nice lunch with my DIL and a good doctor's visit.

I am getting ready to fix me a dish of ice cream and see what movie is on the Hallmark Channel.

Have a good rest of the evening.

Joy

Jane, if the saying "things happen in threes" is true, you should be finished with problems.  I hope so.  You really have had some bad things happen all at once.

So sorry about the flying squirrel & having to get trees cut down, Jane.  What kind of trees (hard or soft wood). When we had all the damage from a storm in Leawood, we let anyone come cut wood up willing to haul it off.  Should have insisted they take some of each kind but didn't think fast enough. The free takers only wanted hard wood (oaks, mainly) so we paid people $250. to haul the rest of the branches to the street so city haulers could pick up.  That was the month we moved into that house & happened on our anniversary.  Looked like a war zone.  Wood is really expensive around here so hope you get a good price.

Lloyd, I've never stayed at a truck stop overnight... do they have electric hook ups or do you have to run your generator for the furnace or AC?  Hope Nancy's leg is better.  When Cas was alive we used to stop every couple hours to walk enough for the circulation... for his legs & mine.  I do get out about half way when going to MO, to stretch, get food & give the cats a chance to use the litter box... they won't use it while rolling...  If you make it to Wichita I'll meet you where ever you stop, I'm located on the northwest part of town.  Right now our street is so torn up I have trouble getting out of my driveway & would not dare try to move the RV.  Hope they plan to coat the whole street because they sure are making a mess of patching.  Good luck with your travels.... one of these time when I go to MO I will give you & Nancy a call to see if you want to meet at the McDonald's in Warrensburg, that's the only place I know where I can pull off without a problem, to meet my sister & brother-in-law ( without going to their house).  Don't like those little narrow streets driving the elephant!

Good night, sweet dreams and God Bless..... (Red Skelton?)  Shirley   Hugs, Amy.........

Feeling really sad for you, AMY. I know how hard it is to make a decision that is for the best, but oh so heart breaking.  HUGS.

JANE, they say bad things happen in threes, so I hope you are done with these terrible situations that have landed in your lap!  There is no need to ask why a sweet lady like you has to have this happen....but one sure does wonder.  I am so sorry.

LLOYD, sorry that you did not get to see the twins today.  I do hope things will work out for you to see them tomorrow.  It is worrisome about the swelling in Nancys leg.  I hope she can get that swelling down.  Hope you are sawing logs right now!

LARRY, I was so happy with my window washing job until today and now I see they already have a bit of a film on them and I see streaks!
Yes, I realize I am a rare breed that does not care that much for chocolate!  I am not much of a sweet eater in general and chocolate is way down on my list.

We have Oliver the Doodle here with us again.  Brian and Cathy are in Santa Fe NM at Cathy’s brothers wedding.  We might have Lola Dog here tomorrow also as it is Granddaughter Kate’s 9th Birthday and she is having a birthday party at home.  It is a cupcake decorating party and Lola might be better off to be away during this time.

We just got a sever weather warning on our cells.....nothing going on yet but best I get this sent before it starts!

SHIRLEY, continued thoughts and prayers for Andy.

Pleasant dreams to all.

good evening everyone. Shirley your motor home is just what you need. you can handle it fine, but it is a pup along side ours I think .ours is 39 feet long
and just a smidgen under 8 feet wide just so leagale in width. it has a 300 horse
cat diesel engine. gets right down the road fine and up the hills as well. it has just two ax-easel rear is dull wheels. it has 80 mph on the speedometer and it will do it in a couple heart beats. I did try it, but I mostly where the roads are suitable 65-70, it has cruse control and it works fine. brakes work fine also.
It also has a exhaust Jake brake works good and is not noisy like to many of the big trucks , do not here it at all but can feel what it is doing. the down side of it is it only gets 7,3 miles per galleon. but it is on air ride suspicion and rides like a dream for the most part. I am going back to bed now and try for some ZZZE'S. sweet dreams one and all and thanks for the well wishes for Nancy and I.

Good Morning all.  I'm just sitting here waiting for the tree guy.  He said he'd be here around 8:30 so I don't want to get involved in anything I can't stop when he gets here

The boinger just went off for the doggies breakfast so I better go feed them or they'll be in here nagging me.  I might not be back much today.  Lots to do.  Enjoy your day.

Good morning everyone...

Laundry day here and I am not sure what else. I know the snow blower needs to be brought over to the garage and the reflectors put in the ground by the walkway. Hubby isn't having such a good day his RA is really acting up. I hope we get a call from the specialist soon!!

Thank you Shirley, June, Callie, Jenny and Joy we all have been through this and many times and each time it doesn't get any easier.

My son sent me this and when I can, I will watch it..just not now.

Jane, that is it for you, no more, you have had more on your plate lately to deal with. Look on the bright side, when all done you will be snug as a bug in winter and a cool cucumber in summer.

Lloyd, safe travels for you and Nancy..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Launder is piling up  and the on board water supply is limited unless you can fiend place to hook up to a water supply. Nancy is saying we are going to fiend a laundry Mat. But i think we will be to my brothers tomorrow and could use his laundry room. Have a great day. see you later.

Hi Everyone. After a very rainy day yesterday we have a bright and sunny morning and suppose to stay sunny all day long but only get into the mid-60's.  I am feeling much better today than yesterday.  Yesterday I was very short of breath and very tired and was having angina.  Pat discovered that the humidity in the house was above 50% and felt that might be contributing to the way I was feeling so we turned on the air conditioning and it went back down. I plan on staying home today although Scott has today off and suggested we go out to lunch, so we may go for a late main meal this afternoon. Other than that I just plan on watching some football and taking it easy. I have fixed Pat's breakfast and the kitchen and morning chores are done.

Carol, thanks for the offer but I think I will pass on those dishes that "curl your toes".  :)

Amy, remember the good times with Golden Girl rather than the sad day yesterday.  I bet Babe dog is really missing Golden Girl. Sorry that your husband is suffering today with the RA.

Jane, sorry to read you still have a problem with squirrels.  Years ago I put a bird feeder out on a wire and one day I saw the squirrel making way on the wire (I think it was upside down) until he got to the feeder. They are also able to jump long distances.  It sounds like you have a good tree man who is trying to be very fair with you.  I also hope you don't get any more bad news for a very long time.

Lloyd, glad to see you are making good progress on your trip and sorry you haven't been able to see those twins.  Glad you and Nancy are having a good time.

Shirley, it is important to get out of a car every couple of hours especially as we get older.

Jenny, I think Lloyd and I will have to worry about you not caring for sweets.  :)  I hope the severe weather skipped you yesterday.

I started to watch the video you posted but I couldn't finish it because I knew what was coming and I don't have the stomach to watch it.  I'm a softie when it comes to pets.  Tears come too easy.

Good morning all. I was having computer problems yesterday, so my girl that fixes computers came up, worked on it and got nothing....just a big black screen. So called Gary and he planned to come over today and take the computer back to the people that he had do work beforel. So I was expecting a weekend sans computer. After I woke up this morning and did all the breakfast/prayers/daily readings etc. I sat me down in front of the computer and decided to check all the plug in connections...wiggled them all, turned on the computer.....and here I am.

I said, "Thank you God".

Mary Ann, I haven't watched it either. In time, maybe but I am like you on the pets. I will keep it though as my son has two rescue Danes and I know one day in the future I can send it back to him. When I was talking with him last night he said Cole was snuggled beside him on the couch and Skye was perched  on top of the footstool trying to get close to him.  You can just imagine how that looked!  Later on in the evening he phoned and while we were talking said that Cole was snoring when if fact it was Skye!!  Cole would have to lower his head to counter surf he is that tall!

June, Amen...….glad you are here :)

Neighbours have gone to see his Mom and I brought Rex over for a visit. He is now laying at my feet quite content. :)

Good afternoon, sun shinning now, but rain all morning

Amy I also am so sorry for your loss,as I sa9id before pets are our family. If I do not feel good in  the middle of the night my Taffy is right beside me.

Oh! Jane so sorry to hear about that can of worms that was open.  As they say trouble comes in threes. At lest it all can be fixed, and those bare wires right away, so glad that was discovered before anything serious happen.

June, smart girl, you got the computer working. Hope you feel better

The fruit cake is baked and cooling.  Later I'll pack it for aging and then I don't have to think about that until it's time to wrap it for giving.

The guys are still here cutting down my trees and my guardian angel is watching over me. I think I have things figured out.  I'm not sure how Christmas will work out but I'm sure God does.

Amy, I asked Cathy about watching the video and she said I should send it and she'd try to watch it.  I don't know if I told you the dog in that video is the image of the one they just lost.

I'm really tired but I can't doze off until the guys clear out of my yard and I'm not sure when that will be.  Cathy said she's going to circulate a memo at work that I have wood for sale because she knows at least 5 people who have wood stoves and fireplaces.  The will help the situation.

We used to sing a song at camp that was based on the "now I lay me down to sleep" prayer and I found myself singing it this afternoon.

All night, all day, angels watchin' over me my Lord.
All night, all day, angels watchin' over me.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
Angels watchin' over me my Lord.
Pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Angels watchin' over me.

If I die before I wake,
Angels watchin' over me, my Lord.
Pray the Lord my soul to take
Angels watchin' over me.

If I live another day,
Angels watchin' over me my Lord.
Pray the Lord to guide my way
Angels watchin' over me.

Then you do the opening chorus again.

I think the angels are definitely in my corner this week.  And watchin' over me!

AMY, my speakers have chosen not to speak today so I can't hear it but it will be badly sung in my kitchen for the next couple of days.  Kumbaya is one of my all time favorite camp songs.

I wonder how Andy's doing, too!  Maybe Shirley will be in later.

Fruit cake is packed away.  Now all I have is the sawdust smell.  That's kind of nice too.

First of all, you are right, Lloyd, your RV is 10 feet longer than mine but my speedometer says 100 on it.  No idea how many miles per gallon, a lot depends on the wind drag.... sometimes I make it to Sedalia with a quarter of tank to spare & some times I chicken out & add before I get there, it holds 55 gallons.... but my gas is cheaper than your diesel so think it balances out for cost. When I put the slide out there is lots of room, but not too bad when I don't want to put jacks down & slide out. King size bed stays a king size bed & plenty room for the cats & me. Not ready to give it up yet.

Thanks for asking about Andy, .... he was released from the hospital about 7:00-8:00 last night, think they needed the bed, one nurse mentioned lots of patients waiting to move from one area to the other.  He called me about 9:30 & sounded exhausted, he had company that brought food & of course his 2 kids & their families were there to make him comfy.  I've been there & know the kindest thing is to be left alone to sleep.  They had only that day taken the drainage tube out from his chest & lungs, still has to go get IV antibiotic every day for not sure how long... left the "picc" line in but still a pain to have to load into the car & drive to the hospital outlet... & someone has to drive the first month.  They are being cautious about this infection (thank goodness).  I feel bad for him because everyone has said, "take the pain pills, why suffer?".... He is like me & could have done better without, as long as my head is clear I can handle things but they take the edge off my stubborn brain & I can't fight as good.  "They say" he's only taking half what most take, but that half would be enough to make me fuzzy & the pain more intense.  But I wasn't running the show so ........  Hope he gets some strength back, they discovered he is anemic, a shock, since he gives blood as often as they will take, & they test each time.

It just started raining, been sunny all day.  I've been day dreaming about a drive through MO next week but see weather guessers are talking about a couple nights below freezing so may need to take the RV out to be winterized & have the pool guy over to shut it down & install a new cover.  I can use the RV anyway, just have to not let water go down the drain & "toss it out" instead, been doing it 5 winters already & no problem in the woodsy campgrounds where I go.

Just have to tell you about my problem.... with a "cat" smell.  Tom walked past the other evening, purring & rubbing against everything... & lifted his tail & marked HIS spot!  I yelled at him & his eyes got frantic & he took off running down the hall to hide.  I quickly cleaned the spot & he came back looking nervous... I talked nice to him & let him go out. Every day since I thought I could smell that odor, have that "miracle" spray that's supposed to eliminate completely but it has an odor I don't care for, too.  I've scrubbed, polished & done everything I could think of, over & over, & finally called my sister because she's had cats all her life.  She sympathized with me & just said, "no cure, it's just awful".

Last night it was stronger & I decided I had gone over cabinets, floors, everything else where that smell could be coming from BUT, what if it was something hidden that was rotten.  One time an onion had gone AWOL in my conversion van & took a thorough cleaning out before I found it.  Sure enough, I found a half of an onion in a ZipLoc bag hiding behind & between the crock pot & convection oven.... been there about a week & guess the zip was locked tight.  The smell is gone today!!!   I often use half an onion & save the rest if I'm going to need more in a day or so, but never put it in the frig for fear it'll taint the milk or something.  Boy, howdy, lesson learned! I called my sister to tell her I can't blame the cat..... I should have taken the crock pot to it's shelf in the basement but plan to use it next week & those steps are SO tough to climb with something heavy, nobody but me to see it's on the cabinet~~ Made a lot of work for myself to save a few steps....

Don't watch the video unless you are ready for a good cry.  Think my self control is off tonight, tears are flowing over but in one sense, the nerves are more relaxed.... I never did panic when my kids got hurt, but after, when alone in a corner, I could cry.  We aren't alone in our misery.

Nobody been here since me.  Don't want to scare you from watching that video, it is so well done, and so like most of us feel about our pet family, I kind of think each will find a sense of peace watching.  I think your son had a good idea sending that to you, Amy.... sometimes tears are healing & mine were peaceful tears. Thanks to him.

I watched the video, AMY.  IT IS nicely done and a loving one that is a real tear jerker.  Thank you for sharing it.

We had dinner out with Dr.Dave and Family for Kate’s 9th Birthday at a Cheesecake Factory, the Birthday Girls choice.  I had a pasta dish, and there is enough left for a couple more meals.

We are to gain that hour back that we lost in the spring overnight, but right now I will need more than one hour to make me feel caught up.

JANE, I do hope the tree cutting went well today.  I sure have thought a lot about you and all the issues you have been facing.  HUGSz❣️

Continued thoughts and prayers for Andy.  It seems awfully early for him to be sent home.  Just hope he gets enough rest.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Good morning everyone..

No snow this morning :) Rained off and on yesterday and made you glad it wasn't snow!

Managed to get the laundry done and the tape residue  from rugs being put down for GG. Thought  would get some baking done so maybe today is the day......later.

Shirley, Jenny, I will watch it when tears behave...I do have Kleenex in the house :) but I am a softie when it comes to animals and children.

Jenny, I too will need more than that hour , maybe we can sneak in some of Janie's zzz's.  Happy birthday to Kate!

Shirley, picc lines are a blessing. Kyle had one for his chemo and it saved him from being stuck every time we went for treatment. We bought Veterinarian's long gloves to put over the line when he had a shower. I made a elastic  wrap with Velcro to close it.

Lindancer..animals are such a comfort to us, no matter what they are. They seem to know when your not feeling good .

Gloria, hope you are feeling better today..all too soon you will look out your window and see a winter wonderland :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi Everyone. It is another beautiful Sunday morning here in South Carolina with not a cloud in the sky.  I did remember to reset the clocks and my watch.  I am responsible for our devotional for our Sunday School class this morning and likely will lead us in singing a couple of the old hymns unless a choir member is there and is willing to do so.  Pat isn't up yet so don't know whether she will feel up to attending Church this morning or not.  If she goes we will likely stop somewhere on the way home to have our main meal and if she doesn't I will pick up something to bring home.  Then I expect to spend the rest of the day quietly.  I do want to try to contact my good friend via FaceTime later this afternoon. We try to talk about once a week.

Yesterday Scott came over and we went to Wifesaver's for a delicious chicken dinner.  We even had a dessert apiece.  He and his mother had the banana pudding and I had a piece of lemon meringue pie and really enjoyed it.

Amy, baked beans always seem to make the house smell so good.  It is hard to think of great danes as snuggling up.  I hope Rex was some needed company for Babe yesterday.

June, have you been giggling the wires and plugs connected to your computer?  Seriously, glad the computer came back to life.

Jane, do you make only one fruitcake?  Glad that job is over for you for another year and you can get back to the important things like making the candy!  Glad you are getting the trees removed before they fell and caused damage to your home.  I hope your wood sells quickly.

Shirley, glad to read that Andy has been released from the hospital.  You are right he needs to rest and visiting isn't resting when you are recovering from serious surgery.  I don't think people realize this until they have been the one trying to recover.  While having visitors is appreciated they need to make them short visits. Glad you discovered the problem with the "cat smell" and that it wasn't the cat.

Jenny, we used to go to the Cheesecake Factory for special occasions and always enjoyed it.  However, it has been many years since we have visited one.

Bubble, thanks for helping Amy share the picture of Golden Boy.  I see why he has that name.

Time to leave for Sunday School.  Pat told me she doesn't plan to attend Church today so won't be making the extra trip out to get her, not that I mind doing that.

Good morning everyone. Finally a sunny day here. Rain and more rain lately with a lot of wind. We lost power Friday/Saturday. I woke early in the morning and it was too quiet and it was very dark. Power was out for 7 hours. Yesterday it cleared in the early afternoon and the temperature went up to 71. Now it is only 37. With all the rain there is now a lot of bare trees. Just something else on this lemon this morning, cannot get the degrees sign after the numbers. Wonder what next.

SHIRLEY  I recently read an article that some doctors are saying that Grandmothers old remedies really work better than the chemical  ones used these days. Took science a lot of years to wake up. My Mother had some remedys she learned from her Grandmother who was a full blooded Native American. These days seems like everyone runs to a doctor for every thing. I pray Andy he ts well enough to go home soon but not too soon that  he has t o go back to the hospital. Sad that the therapy has him in so much pain they have to give him pain pills to overcome the pain.

LLOYD  my oldest son and DIL will be going to Flagstaff this week, They went to visit my daughter outside of Kingman, Az. and they sure have been busy the last few days. One trip to the Hoover Dam and will be going to the Grand Canyon and a train ride near Verde Valley. My SIL cannot enjoy a vacation unless a train is in there someplace. My daughter and SIL will be worn out when my son and DIL leave there and come home.

JANE  I am tired of all the rain we have been having. Just saw the forecast and looks like this coming week we have 1 nice day and then 2 days of rain for the week.

LARRY  seems like we have been having more rainy days than sunny ones for much too long.

AMY  so sorry about Golden Girl, I know how you feel, been there. My son's last dog I always called my Shadow. Every time I drove into their yard she would come running to my door and could hardly wait for me to open it. She would try to get up in my lap while I was still behind the wheel and talking to me so it was hard getting out. When I helped him at the apple stand near the road she stayed near me. She was Australian shepherd and I guess I was her family member or something. We knew her health was fading and when my DIL took her to the vet the last time t o be put to sleep she did not tell me till it was over. I cried for a long time after she told me. Hugs for both of you and Babe, too.

JANE  I remember when I had  a bird feeder where I lived on the second floor, I s tarted seeing a squirrel there and wondered how it got there, I finally saw what it was doing to get there. It would get on the railing of my porch and jump up to it, just about getting the edge of the feeder.

LLOYD  when driving for a long distance my SIL will stop ever 2 hours or so and get out and walk around for awhile. Good idea.

SHIRLEY I could picture Red Skelton at the end of his TV shows with that God Bless. He had a good show.

AMY  will watch your link when I finish here. I remember teaching our groups that song many years ago. That one and Make new Friend but keep the Old. One is Silver and one is Gold. I love the look of snow and always loved being outside in it.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link to Amy's photo.

AMY what a beautiful pup GG was and I bet she was a beauty all her life.

LARRY  only clock I did not change is my alarm clock. Have to get the book out to check how to do it.

Have a good day everyone.

I went to church and stayed for coffee hour and a visit with friends.  Then I stopped at the store on the way home and got the rest of the crackers that I need to do for Christmas.  That's on my agenda for this week.  I'm going to get as many of them spread and dipped and packed as I can manage.

I have an appointment with the Orthopedist on Tuesday morning, work Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning.  Then my friend and I are going to the movies on Tuesday EARLY afternoon and I'm going to dinner with former Pennsylvania House employees (ladies only) on Monday evening.  Doesn't leave a lot of time.

The tree guys ran into dark before they got finished last night and will be back Monday morning...if it doesn't rain which iit is supposed to do.

AMY, Golden Girl is a BEAUTY!  But you already know that!

LARRY, what I make is one BATCH of my Mother's Fruit Cake Recipe.  It amounts to about 14 pounds.  She always made hers in pounds and half pounds.  I make them in much smaller pans and when I wrap them they look all Christmasy.  After my parents were both gone, so many people said that they missed Mom's fruit cake that I made it one year, wrapped it and put them all in a Christmasy basket with a sign telling them that it was the "St. Andrew's recipe" and if they liked it and wanted one, help themselves.  I added that if they felt an obligation to "pay back" they could make a donation to our Outreach Fund.  This is something that helps people locally if they need help.  It went over so big that I've been doing it for almost 20 years.  It makes me feel good, gives others something to enjoy and ends up helping people in need.  Works for me!  I usually deliver them the Sunday before Christmas.

Now I better get started spreading crackers or I'll never finish that chore.  Have a good day Everyfriend!

Amy - WOW!  I noticed there are 58 pages of patterns and I only looked at the first one.  I am not a quilter but my deceased nephew's wife is - or was - and I forwarded it to her.

It is a dreary day and much too cool for me here in the Mile High City!

The Broncos are at home today.....sure glad I can watch them from the comfort of my recliner.

LARRY, the only thing I feel is that the Cheesecake Factory is a bit pricy IMHO.  It is a very popular place.  It was $18.00 for a pasta dish without meat.  Bob had a Cobb salad and it was also in that price range!  Too much I think!  Your fried chicken sounded good to me!  I would take lemon anytime over banana pudding, but to each his own. We never order desert when we eat out.....not that into sweets, but I know many only eat out to be able to order deserts!

Thank you so much, BUBBLE for the clickable to see Amy’s Golden Girl.  What a beautiful little girl she was.

GLORIA & SHIRLEY, I still resort to grandma’s old remedies!  Every time you post one Shirley, I take notes!

GLORIA, happy to read that your son and DIL are visiting your daughter in AZ.  Sounds like they are enjoying the many sights that are available there.  Wish you could have joined them!

I put a chuck roast in the crock pot and it sure is smelling yummy!  No fancy fruit cakes or yummy home made bread here, dern it!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, EVERYFRIEND.

I guess I forgot to post my last message, the mind is not absorbing what's going on.  Andy was released from the hospital Friday evening fairly late, he rested & kept busy yesterday (has to go to the out patient unit for treatment every day), but they were at church this morning.  They went on out to the reception room after Communion because he was short on oxygen in a crowd.  Nobody had told me the lower part of one lung had collapsed....  besides being anemic, lack of oxygen was another battle.  He looked sort of gray to me, said not in pain but having a hard time with a slight cough & lack of oxygen, so another worry.  They don't want to worry me & insist they have plenty people bringing food & doing things for them.  You know how it is, rather be helping than twiddling my thumbs.  Not sure I will run away to MO next week, didn't vote ahead so must be here Tuesday & weather guessers say "we might get snow on Thursday".... so need to get RV & pool winterized.  I can leave the pool pump running overnight to keep from freezing so not critical about that. Anyone want to walk the floor with me?

The talk about fried chicken put me on the path to KFC for a bucket with sides.  Tasted pretty good, along with a fried apple pie, but now I'm sleepy.  I feel like a bum, nothing to show for my week except finding a stinky onion in my kitchen!

Jenny, my sister tried to get me to make a list of Mother's old remedies & sayings one time, but when I tried to, my mind went blank.  They only pop up when in need.  Being 5 years the youngest I did get the benefit of "one on one" more than the others.

Had a phone call so forgot to post this, guess I'd better shut up & go finish up in the kitchen, give the cats their midnight snack & go to bed.

Jane, it warms my heart to read about your "good deeds" with your mother's fruit cake, proud to know you!  No doubt she is smiling from ear to ear as she watches over you.

Gloria, every time you mention your son in law my mind goes to that photo of him standing inside his car with the engine missing.... "shades of the Flintstones"....how funny!

Good night and God Bless....

SHIRLEY, I never thought of it as a "good deed".  I think of it as therapy.  My parents are both in the kitchen with me when I work on the fruit cake or the vegetable soup and I love that feeling.

I can't believe that Andy is out and about!  He must be one strong-willed guy!  I hope he recovers as fast as he thinks he is!  But I also hope he takes care and gets the rest he needs for a full recovery.

I'm also off to Dreamland.  If it doesn't rain all night and into the morning as predicted, the tree guys will be back to finish up their job.  And then I have to work 11 - to 3 and someone is picking me up for dinner with former PA House ladies around 5 or so.  Gonna be a busy day.

I got a bunch of saltines peanut buttered tonight and they will be dipped in chocolate on Tuesday, I hope.

I wish you all a good night and a better tomorrow.  Sleep well and may God bless us, every one!

Once again nature has decided today isn't the day to finish the trees.  It started raining sometime during the night and is supposed to continue into the afternoon.  Maybe tomorrow.  I sure wouldn't want to work outside in the cold and rain!

I'll be seeing to some things before I leave for work so I wish you all a good day.

Good morning everyone..

Today we are off to the city to the hospital for hubby's  appointment. We have to be there an hour ahead of time and once he is able we will head home, taking Babe with us and I can check on her while he is having his procedure.
Just going to take the day as it comes.

Jane, I made those last year and oh my addictive they are!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, another cloudy day with rain this afternoon and rain tomorrow. We are already 2 inches above normal for November. Glad it hasn't been snow.

JANE  with all the baking I used to do I never made fruitcake. I never liked it so never bothered.

AMY  any of that pea soup left? I'll be there if there is.

JENNY  I would have liked being in Arizona, too, but know my traveling days are over.

SHIRLEY  I loved that Gary Fintstone photo, too. Still have it some place on the external drive. He is so quiet most of the time I love it when he lets his humor show through. Prayers continue for Andy.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi Everyone. The weather report says it will be a cloudy day today with a small chance of rain late this afternoon.  One of my coffee drinking friends has been very ill and he passed away a couple of days ago and so plan on attending the Memorial Service at 1 pm.  Scott said he would come over later this morning and set up the new color laser printer that was delivered on Sunday and do a couple of other installation jobs for us. We got the last pull out shelf we need to put in the cabinet that holds Pat's sink in the master bathroom and the longer black out curtain came a few days ago so he will put those up for us. I have a friend who should be here in a few minutes to work with me for an hour.

We did have a very nice Church Service yesterday as it was All Saints Day and the day we remember our lost loved ones and especially the member of our Church who have died in the last year and there were quite a number of them. The service started with a bell ceremony and then later there was a litany in recognition of the lost members and as each name was read a small candle was lit while our bell choir played quietly in the background.

Gloria, nice to read you finally had a sunny day.  It is a pain to lose power and yours was off for quite awhile.  I guess it makes us realize who much we take it for granted and how much we rely on it.  Sorry to read you are having more problems with your computer.  We sure didn't run to the doctor with everything as I was growing up and when we did it was the GP, who seemed to be able to treat us without referral to a specialist and doing a great many tests as seems to be the norm today.  I think lawyers have a lot to do with all of the testing.  Nice your son and DIL were able to visit with his sister and husband. If Amy has any pea soup left to share with us you can have my portion as it isn't something I like.

Jane, I hope you have a great evening out with your Pennsylvania House ladies.  You sure do have a busy week planned.  That is a lot of fruitcake but what a nice thing to do for your Outreach Fund.  There are always those in need. Sorry you won't get the tree job finished today.

Amy, I have copied the pattern link and have emailed it to my wife.  Glad you had a awesome day yesterday.

Jenny, sorry to see that your Bronco's didn't win yesterday.  Fortunately both the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons had wins yesterday.  I agree completely that $18 for just a pasta dish is outrageous.  I just checked and the closest Cheese Factory Restaurant to use in in Greenville and I have no expectation of ever going there much less being tempted to eat at a Cheese Factory.  Do you have one of the Mimi chain restaurants out your way? We paid less than $8 each for two pieces of chicken plus two sides and a roll at Wife Saver's and about $2 for each dessert.  I seldom order dessert out unless it is at Dairy Queen or Chick-fil-A and then I have to have some ice cream.

Shirley, I am very surprised that Andy was up to going back to Church so soon after being in the hospital for those several days and having the serious surgery.  He must have your strong will.  I hope you haven't worn your floor out with all of your worried walking.  I have heard that worrying is like rocking in a rocking chair, you don't go anywhere but it gives you something to do.  It has been a long time since we have had KFC.  Pat now prefers Bojangles.

June, you really had a long day.  I hope you had a good nights sleep last night.

Lloyd, it sounds like you and Nancy had a really fun and activity packed day.  Do you both sleep well in your new motor home?

Good morning all....getting close to lunch time. I feel tired today, but made myself dress and will go down for lunch, then to to do nothing, but write some letters, and read and nap. i am really feeling my age lately, mostly just utter tiredness, and lack of interest in things I could and should do. It makes me angry at myself for allowing this to happen, but when you are tired, you are tired.

Weather is great out here in my area of the States. 74 for a high, low of 58,with sunshine. The  news is awaiting the results of the election. A Mental war going on with the two parties.

Amy, I pray your day goes well for your beloved husband, and your waiting with your loyal doggie will go easily for both of you.

Tisi....our prayers have surely been heard by God. Your son has truly healed quickly. I hope he rests enough though. the body needs a "time out" for a while.

Time for me to close and get ready for lunch down stairs. Hugs and Love to all....all day long. June

June, please don't worry yourself about not feeling ambitious to do things.  You're going to catch up with Gloria De and me at the end of the month.  We've lived a long time and I doubt any of us expected to be here now.  Relax, read, find games on your computer, visit with friends.

You are more active than I am and Gloria De outshines both of us by driving in her mobile home park and being active in several groups.

You are doing fine - and keep it up.

So happy to read you post, AMY.  PRAYERS are answered.

JUNE, you are doing just fine! If you feel tired and want to have a layed back day, then just do that!  You deserve to relax or partake in activities depending on how you are feeling without feeling guilty. Hugs to you my sweet friend.  Oh yes, we do have OUR shared day coming again soon. I hope my new little grandson will be born before OUR DAY. He deserves a birth date  of his own.  GrandBob has one the 14th.....maybe he will come right after that!  This will be our second grandson born in California.  We are so excited❣️

LARRY, my Broncos are really struggling.....I 💓 one of the great players on the Carolina Panthers team......Christian Mc Caffery. He grew up very close to where Dr. Dave and the Family live.  He and his brothers played high school at a private school just a mile or so from us.  They are a wonderful family and still participate in many activities in the community when they are here.  His dad, Ed played for my Broncos at one time.

SHIRLEY, when put on the spot to remember things my mind just becomes BLANK.  I guess when you think of one of the mother remedies you should try to jot them down.  They still seem to be the best.  I hope Andy is having a good day.  Bless his heart for going to church yesterday.  I hope he did not over do!

Tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM, Grandson Matt will be presenting his Eagle Scout Project to the entire staff of the middle school where he attends.  He is so excited and enthusiastic to be getting this done.  It was quite the process to have his project OK’d by the powers that be.  He certainly is a delightful young man at age 13 to be accomplishing  Eagle Scout.  We are so very proud of him.

Oliver Doodle was picked up a bit ago.....it will be rath quite around here tonight without him.

Enjoy your evening EVERYFRIEND!

Jenn

Jenn, I think Andy's son was several years older when he earned his Eagle award.... quite an honor.  He almost didn't go to the ceremony because the "sash" or whatever it's called that has all the badges on... turned up missing.  He had no clue what happened to it.  Congratulations to Matt and both parents, one time I think parents get a little credit for raising such a fine son. My youngest grand is about to graduate with a degree in Audiology... her mother has a "Masters" in Health Care Office Management" so an influence outside of engineering.  I honestly think I've enjoyed the great grands even more, but I'm sure you will be heading west to check out that new baby as soon as possible, congratulations.

Good to hear the next appointment can be spread out to a year, Amy, a roller coaster week for y'all (to say the least).

Thanks again for all the prayers for Andy, he is a long way from being "out of the woods".... with daily injections of antibiotics for maybe months, and the problem with the partial collapsed lung.  He looked gray yesterday, said the oxygen concentrator is helping, but he didn't take it to church or breakfast after.  Larry, I know you understand this is no "walk in the park"... at any age.

June, Gloria de & Mary Ann, I think y'all are about the same age as my brother.... he just called to say they are flying to FL for a family gathering for Thanksgiving.  One son has a place down there (doesn't live there all the time) but their only daughter does live in FL , so they will be there about a week & their 5 kids & families will come for Christmas with them.  They go back to FL for Jan, Feb & March.... so keep busy.  This brother is the one that looks most like our father.... quite a character.  Hope all of you keep up the good work of "keeping up".  June, for sure we've reached the age we can do whatever we want, enjoy every day!

I'm going to bed earlier tonight.  Woke up about 1:30 am from a bad dream & thought about it quite a while.... still in the back of my mind so hope a good night sleep will end that little nagging part.  Sweet dreams & God Bless to all.... Shirley

Gloria, I made a big dutch oven full so yes lots to go round...will put some in the hidey hole..

Good morning everyone. another day of rain here. Fell asleep last night listening to the rain hitting the windows. Yesterday the weather guessers said we were 2 inches above normal for the month already.

LARRY  I have only had KFC once since that new man took over. The taste was different and very salty.

JUNE  like you I feel tired most of the time. I get  fed up with myself because there is so much I can no longer do. You still do more than I do and I have not reached the 90's.

AMY  glad things went so good yesterday for your DH.

JENNY  congratulations to Matt. Isn't that young to become an Eagle Scout?

SHIRLEY  I hope Andy is not pushing himself and doing too much too soon. Hope he is careful being around too many people especially with flu season around.

JANE you start earlier with the making of treats for Christmas. I started the day after Thanksgiving.  Sent the box full well before Christmas to San Diego to make it there before the rush of mailing. My 2 grandsons there always waited for their goodies.

AMY  nothing like a bowl of homemade pea soup. Cannot eat the stuff that comes in cans. Have you ever made the 15 bean soup? That is good, too and freezes good.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  According to our local weather report last evening we may be in for a very stormy short period this afternoon with heavy rain and high winds.  However, he said it shouldn't last more than an hour or so.  Well this is the day I think most of us in American, if we have been paying any attention at all, have been waiting for as it is finally election day. From what I have heard it sounds like this may be a record turnout for a mid-term election.  I will definitely be watching the returns as they come in tonight. I think I mentioned before that Pat and I had voted by absentee ballot and it was sent in a couple of weeks ago. This should be a pretty quiet and restful day.  I do have someone coming to the house and to work with me for about an hour later this morning.  Scott did not make it out yesterday as he had planned but know he was probably exhausted from working both shifts at his job Sunday.

June, live each day the way you want and as you feel up to it.  I always found writing letters by hand tiring and difficult.  You sure do have some nice weather.

Mary Ann, we just lost last week the oldest member of our Church, who was 103.  She had been in the service less than a month ago and didn't even need assistance to walk until a year or so ago.

Amy, happy to read that your husband's procedure went well and now is on a yearly appointment.  I sure hope his RA is doing better.

Jenny, it sounds like Christian McCaffery is a fine man.  I now pay particular attention to the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons although enjoy any of the teams. It is a bit of a shock when we can remember when fathers of current players were playing themselves in the pro leagues.  What an achievement for Matt.  Is this the last step to becoming an Eagle Scout or is he already one?

Shirley, I agree with you that parents are often the vital link in children that do well.  You also have very talented and accomplished children and grandchildren. Will Andy's partially collapsed lung eventually refill?  I am fortunate in that I only use the oxygen concentrator at night.  It sounds like he is doing well and hopefully sees improvement with each day.  His body has been put through a great turmoil and is still fighting infection so it is going to take time, as you will know from your own experience.  Some of our dreams can really be disturbing and frightening.  I seldom remember much about them when the new day starts.

Gloria, my son loves it when it is raining as he sleeps better than than any other time.  I really understand the feeling tired a lot of the time.  Fortunately the mornings are usually pretty good for me so I try to do what I need to do each day during the mornings.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for November 1, 2018

I seldom dream and when I do, I can't remember anything about them.  But somehow or other, I find myself singing old songs that I do remember and can't get fid of.  This morning it is - and don't laugh - Animal Crackers in my Soup!  Another "constant" is Old Shanty Town.

Today should be an interesting Election Day.  I voted absentee but I haven't seen Tom this morning and I have an idea he is at the poll and if so, it's been a long time.  Tom was brought up in this area and I know many people brought up here stay here as they marry and have families so Tom is sure to see someone he knows.  He could vote absentee, but he likes to be in the crowd.  We have a damp day today, not really raining, but wet.  Leaves all over the place.

Larry, I think there are half a dozen people in my church who are older than I am.  One is a woman who graduated from high school the same year I did and she is two months older.  One woman is a couple years older and I don't remember the others, but we're all close in age.

Gloria, I'm surprised there was a change in the taste of your KFC; I thought all franchises were supposed to use the same recipe and ingredients.  Norm's first and former wife used to manage a place near us.  If there was any left at the end of the day, she'd take it down the street to the fire department where it was very appreciated.

Amy, pea soup is not my favorite, but I do like a good hot soup, so I'll take some.  Thank you.  I had some Panera's cheese broccoli soup yesterday - we can buy it at our grocery store.

Good morning.

A really dreary day out today.  It seems like the weather is usually bad on Election Da , for some reason.   I have  a friend who is working all day handing out flyers,. I feel so bad for her having to be out in this mess.  I am not real sure if she is getting paid or not.  Might be worth it if she is paid, but not so good if she is just a volunteer.  I forgot to  ask her if it was a paying job.  I know if you work inside as a judge, you do get paid.

MaryAnn,  I had to laugh when you mentioned the song "Animal Crackers in my Soup".. I have been seeing a commercial advertising a set of CD's for Shirley Temple, and that is the song that she is singing in the commercial.  Maybe you have seen that, also, and that is why  you are remembering it????

Yesterday was a busy day.  Got my hair done in the morning, and then had just about time to get lunch before I went to the exercise class.  I am sorry that it is only once a week, as it is fun.  I think there were 8 ladies there yesterday.   Mostly sitting exercises.

I did not sleep very well last night and today is such a dreary day, that I am sure  a nap will be forthcoming.

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy.  Glad that Shirley's son is getting along ok.  Sure hope he isn't overdoing it.  Men are always so impatient to get on with things, even when they probably know they should be resting.

Have a great day.

Joy

No, Joy, I have not seen that commercial.  I saved the song to my bookmarks when I came across it quite a while ago and even that was not the reminder - I woke up singing the song.  I got rid of it somewhere along the line and I don't have any song going now.  I am sure one will get into my head soon!

It is dreary here too, damp but I haven't seen rain.  Of course, even though I sit by a window, I don't see that much of the outside because I face a bit away from the outside.  Maybe I should go talk to the cat and I would see what the weather is doing on my deck.  I read where we might have snow by the end of the week.  I'm not ready!

Take a look at Grand Haven.  I can see the pier and some of the outer lighthouse, but not the other two lighthouses.  Whitecaps look fierce.  I don't know what the brown spot is unless it is a bug, but it wasn't there earlier today.

Hello Everyfriend!  I see that I never checked in this morning.  I took care of my morning things and then got ready for my 8:40 Dr. appt thinking that if I were ready early enough, I could go by the polls and vote before my appt.  And that's just what I did.

Now I'm waiting to see if the electrician is coming today or if he's waiting until Thursday.  I cancelled my plans for this afternoon when I got a text from my son saying that he was probably going to be bringing him by this afternoon.  I guess I'll find out.  I asked him to let me know if he knew he WASN'T coming today and I haven't heard anything.

Still raining here so the trees are not getting done.  Everything seems to be at a standstill!

I guess it's just as well that I cancelled my plans because I don't feel expecially good today.  I'm trying to get some laundry done because if the electircian interrupts that, I can just turn everything off.

Gloria, I have to get an early start on the candy because I do so much of it.  I have the crackers all spread and I have about 35 dozen of them to dip and package.  Then I have peanut butter cups and coconut, almost the same anount of those to make and package.  And none of that includes the small amounts of certain ones that are favorites of certain family members.  And after that, I have the gum drops to make and package and a small amount of decorating to do.

And this year, I'm trying to do something special.  My grandson who lives and works out of Montreal has a Mexican girl friend.  She and her 8 year old son and my grandson will be spending Thanksgiving weekend at my daughter's in Frederick, MD and I'm trying to figure out how to get there and back so I can meet her.  So far, I have a ride back but that won't do me much good if I don't get there first.

Dryer stopped.  Gotta go fold the clothes and put more in there and more in the washer.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Went to our Residents Community Assoc. meeting and enjoyed it very much. We are doing well as a community, and I appreciate our non profit status.

Soon it will be lunch time, and then I will surely enjoy some reading and nap time.I thank those who encouraged me to live as I like..rest when needed, and not to fuss about what I can no longer do. You make me thankful for your encouragement.

We are such a closely knit group. I find that all my past family has been replaced by all of you, and I had the enjoyment of sharing our friendship with all the members of our community here at Rowntree Gardens. I wish you could all be my neighbors here.

Time to scoot down for lunch, then home to read and snooze. Hugs and love all around. June

MaryAnn,  It is 5 p.m. here in the east and I just went to look at Grand Haven.

WOW !!!   Those are some really huge whitecaps.  You can't even see the long pier.  I am sure there isn't anybody walking on that pier today.

Do you think they are finished working on the pier?   I am assuming they are not going to put the catwalk back up again???    I forget to notice what the temperature was there, but it sure looks COLD !!! n   But, I bet it is really beautiful to look at in person.

Getting time to start looking for some dinner.  I have been waiting for a return call from the doctor's office I called around 10 this morning.   I am so disillusioned with this doctor's office.  It is a huge practice and I am just so sorry I didn't go to a different doctor.  I have to go through with this procedure this time, but I am seriously considering changing to another doctor for a follow-up.   I had considered that earlier, but didn't follow through with my first choice.  I have been waiting over 6 weeks for this appointment and I have some important questions I need an answer to.

I guess I will be watching the election returns tonight to see if our very popular governor is re-elected.  The one who  is running against him is kind of scary !!

Hope everyone will haven a nice evening.   Mine should be very interesting.

Joy

MaryAnn,  I just went back to check the temperature and one place it said 74 º.  Then down below that it said Water Temperature was 50º. I  sure don't think that "74" was right.

There was also a kite surfer who  really was fighting to stay upright.  The kite finally landed on the beach,  but I couldn't see the guy or the kite because the trees were in the way.  I am sure it was a perfect day for the kite surfer.

Joy, they haven't changed that temperature chart since the end of summer.  The water temp could be close because it did get into the 70s and it takes longer to cool down.  The catwalk is scheduled to be replaced next year and I know a lot of people will be thrilled.

I've been watching the election returns.  I don't remember all I voted for but the ones I do remember were ahead last I looked.  State races are much closer.  I just noticed my Senate candidate is ahead and she was not a few minutes ago.  She is the incumbent - Stabenow.  Tom Brokaw is on the screen now but I have the TV on Mute.

Good morning everyone, well we had more rain yesterday but today is supposed to be warm and dry. Will wait and see.

LARRY I am so glad the election is over, so tired of all the phone calls and having programs on TV off because of debates. Record turnout here, too. Thankful for the absentee ballots. The 102 year old we have here was taken to a nursing home yesterday. We will all miss her. Even blind she got around great with her rollator the last 2 years.

MARY ANN  I have had KFC from different places and some were better than others, some very greasy and other dry but since the change in owner I really do not like it and the commercials are stupid IMHO.

JANE  you have a bigger family than I do so you do have to make more. I miss the days when I could do all the baking and candy making. I know everyone enjoyed what they got.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone..

Windy here but the rain has stopped. We are off to the city to finish up on what we didn't do on Mon. Meeting daughter in love for lunch and I am picking up more quilts. I either have more men's quilts when I need ladies or vice versa.

Yesterday, I stopped in at a garage to see if would take us when needed. The garage that we have been going to since '92 is closing, thankfully this one will take us.

Jane ,could it be you have been going 100 MPH and have had a lot of stress on your plate??? I hope you feel better today .

Mary Ann, the neighbour came over to return a plate and I sent him back with a quart of soup. I enjoy nice hot soup also..not just luke warm. If I had to pick a favorite it would be beef barley.....or chicken noodle.but  not store bought.

Joy, I hope you got your phone call from the Dr. so frustrating when you are waiting and they seem to take their time.. Finding a Dr  is like finding hens teeth in a bag of rice  anymore!!

June, love reading about your day and how you are doing.

Oh time is slipping away on me!!

Good morning Gloria!!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're in "wait" mode for the doggies pills and when that's up I'll have to be on the move.  It finally stopped raining here and the sun is supposed to shine today so maybe the trees will get finished and my gutters will be cleaned out.  I have to work 11 to 3 but he's going to finish and he said I don't need to be here when he does.

I've got everything out to do the cracker dipping and if all goes well, I'll be up to my eyeballs in chocolate by this time on Thursday.  And by the end of the day, a lot of it will be packed and ready for giving.  My niece always orders 12 bags for giving to her friends and I have to have that ready by the time the girls go home for Thanksgiving break from the nearby college.  She's the one whose husband is a manager at the  Starbucks plant and we work an exchange deal for Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee which I, in turn give to my kids for Christmas.  Good Deal for both of us!

AMY, have a safe trip and a lovely lunch with DILove.

I hope you all have a good day, free of pain and full of smiles!

I think the rain has quit here for the time being, but radar shows some still in the area.

Amy, I think if you tried the Progresso Chicken and Noodle Soup, assuming it is available in your area, I think you'd like it.  What we've had has rotini (sp?) noodles and plenty of those and chicken.  It is head and shoulders over the Campbell soup which I always accepted - until now.  I don't make soups any more.

Dentist this morning and plumber this afternoon.  That takes care of the day.

I also am so glad the election is over.  I had one call at 4 pm yesterday and that was it.  I think I can rest about six months before the 2020 campaigning starts in full.

Hi Everyone. We have a beautiful sunny morning but suppose to have clouds and rain later in the day and evening. We will be getting into the mid-70's this afternoon.  I stayed up until after midnight last night watching the election returns.  Pat is planning on going to her craft group this morning and so I will take her and then go on down the street from the Church and have coffee with my men friends.  This evening is our normal Wednesday night dinner at the Church and later Scott will be out to spend a couple of hours with us.

I will soon have to leave for the morning so will not try to post to individuals where I made a posting over in Norm's B&T Discussion. However, I will read each posting carefully and if I don't get finished I will return this afternoon and finish up.

Jane, hope that electrician did make it to your house yesterday so you can mark that task off your list.  Sorry to see you were not feeling very well yesterday and hope that is a thing of the past today.  Thirty-five dozen of anything is really a lot.  I hope you can work it out to get to see your grandson and his Mexican girl friend and her son.

June, it is nice to read that you are so happy with your living facilities.  I expect we would all love to have you as our neighbor also, I know I would.

Gloria, I hope you can get outside and enjoy your warm and dry day there.  Maybe things will have a chance to dry out a bit from all of the rain you have had.  Our predicted bad weather missed us entirely yesterday with only a brief shower and no wind that I was aware of.  It was cloudy most of the day. I am with you in being glad the election is over.  I sure hope Georgia doesn't end up having to do a runoff in early December for Governor as that would mean another month of terrible, nasty commercials.  Commercials for a lot of things seem stupid to me and sometimes I wonder what they are advertising as the ads don't have much to do with the product.  I especially don't like those that have a lot of noise in the background.

Amy, I hope you have a great lunch with your daughter in love.  Glad you were able to line up a garage.

I did get through all of the posting so be back tomorrow.

Good morning.

Gloria,  Nice to see your message, as I know you have not been feeling all that great and not posting as much as you used to.  I always enjoyed reading your nice long messages.  Hope you are feeling better.

Amy, I did not hear back from the doctor's office yesterday, so I did call back this morning. I just had a call back a little while ago. And, everything seems to be all in order.

Jane, sounds like your candy making is going along ok.  I used to do all that but just am not up to it anymore.  Last year, I did make some cookies that my family just love,  but not sure if I will be up to it this year.  My son has offered to help, but since I have a very small kitchen,  I  just don't think it would work out too good. I think we would be getting in each other's way.  And, he kind of impatient, so I am sure it just wouldn't work.  I don't have any girls to help.
Your peanut butter  crackers sound like they would be easy.  Last year, I did make the ones like the Girl Scout thin mint cookies. You had told me about the Almond bark chocolate bar for dipping them in.  I still have some of that left.  I can do them  sitting down and I might try some of them.  I guess the peanut butter ones on the saltine crackers would be similar ????

I need to get dressed and get some chores done.  I would like to do down to the library  later on today.  I will get my walking in that way.

Have a good rest of the day.

Joy

Good morning all....nearly noon out here. Cool and cloudy today...a nice change.

Gloria, I too prefer Progresso soups. One can gives me two servings.

Larry, I think you and your wife would love living here at Rountree Gardens, and I would certainly enjoy you as neighbors,

I went down for Bible study today...directed by our resident Pastor. He loves teaching and it is obvious.

Now I have to scoot back down for lunch. will see you all later Jume

Good afternoon.  I wrote a post yesterday but forgot to finish it, so when I got back in late last night, it was not here.  I must stop doing this....too confusing for me and a waste of time.

We pretty much only watched the returns last night, even though I said I was not going to do it!  There is not much to wait on as with early voting the winners are pretty much announced immediately after the polls close.  We had a bond issue for the local schools and it passed by the hair of a chinny chin chin!  It is needed badly but many were against it due to past board issues and too much cream on the top!  I hope the powers that be will utilize this money wisely.  I do not like to have to pay higher taxes but I do want the children to have a good education.

GLORIA, yes, Matthew is quite young to have accomplished Eagle Scout.  You have to do it by the time you are 18 and he just turned 13.  He and his dad are very dedicated to his scouting and chose to do this rather than continue in La Crosse, which he was also very involved in.  He was on a competitive traveling team and he just could not do both at the same time.  This opened up a lot of extra time to get all of his badges done.  It has been a very long dedicated process to get where he is.

LARRY, this is the last step to accomplish Eagle Scout for Matt, but he is not elgeable to be awarded it until he has been a Life Scout for six months and that will early spring of 2019.  He has more merit badges than he needs, but he still has to wait for the time frame to come.  Yes, we do have Mimi’s here, and one is quite close.  For some reason we have never eaten there....guess we better go check it out.

JANE, happy to see that the tree men are going to finish up today.  Did the electrician ever come yesterday?

JOY, glad you finally had a call back from your doctor.....how frustrating when you do not hear from them when expected.  Glad all is well.

CAROL, yes, you do know about the McCafrey Brothers at Valor.  They are a very nice family.  Thank you for the kind words for Matt.  I was one of the folks that knew it was a great accomplishment and was a plus on a resume BUT had no idea of the dedication it takes to become a Eagle Scout.  I thought the same about gettin to medical school....I just thought one would study hard and just got in.  Boy did I find out when it was time for Dr. Dave to apply how much he had been planning for years to make sure he was qualified to be accepted.  Hope you and Don are enjoying being back in AZ.

I miss not seeing a post from Lloyd....I do hope he and Nancy are doing well.

Continued thoughts and prayers for Andy, SHIRLEY.  I hope you have been able to settle down a bit and relax too.

Have a good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenn

We are back from our two-hour weekly class - mostly military history.  A retired 2 star general leads us and he is well-informed - even was a t.v.national commentator plus has a sense of humor.

Weather in Tucson is perfect right now.  It is daily in the high 70's and low 80's ad chilly at night so the entire house cools nicely.

I read all the notes from several days and forgot to write any down - so I just want to wish all the tough issues away for each of you.

Jenny:  Your note just appeared.   Congratulations to your new Eagle Scout.  One of our grandson earned it too and it actually is nice to have on a resume.  Some people know the work that goes into earning that merit.  I know the school - Valor.

Good evening

Mary Ann, I watched early returns, and the more I watched and listen to all those talking head I was getting more confused. I then turned to the local channel and found out more what I wanted to know about our local race.  With in a half hour our governor was giving his  speech thanking everyone. After awhile I went to Hallmark and relaxed. I do have to say at 3AM I was watching ABC again to see all the results

Jenny, I know how proud you are of Matt, at making Eagle Scout at 13. I Know how hard that was , as my next door neighbor's grandson  did it and he was almost 18, I also think it is a great achievement to stay in Scouts that long in this day and age

I guess I was more tired than I thought when I came home from work.  I posted what I meant for here over in Photos.  So if I did it right, I'm going to copy it here where it belongs.  Here goes....

Today was a BUSY day at good old Wally World!  I got two of the worst registers in the store and then I went looking for some things that I need and couldn't find any of them.

The GOOD news is the sun came out today and so did the tree guys and they not only finished the trees and cut and stacked the wood for me to sell, they cleaned out my rain gutter and down spouts.  So I have to count today a good day in spite of the registers and not finding what I need.

Tomorrow is another day and hopefully, the electrician will show up.  I can't even call him because I don't know who he is.  My son decided he's going to pay this part of the job and he's bringing a guy that does electrical work for his store.  So I just have to wait it out.  Hopefully, the insulation will be done next week.

In the meantime, I've had a nice nap and a good supper and I feel much better.

JENNY, I forgot to add my congratulations to the rest for your grandson.  He must be a special person to realize at such a young age that you can't do it all and be willing to give up one thing he enjoys to concentrate on another.  As a lifetime Girl Scout, I can understand the work that goes into achieving merit badges on different levels.  Please give him my congratulations!  And my best wishes for his future.

Good morning everyone.

We had a productive day yesterday. Had a delicious Chinese buffet with daughter in love and then headed home.  Saw one accident on the way in and another on the way home!! The one lad wiped out a mail box and removed part of a fence when he lost control. Not sure what happened to the other, looks like not paying attention to the road and kissed a rock setting the air bag off. No serious injuries on both but I bet it scared the dickens out of them!!

Today I am cleaning out the fridge....was going to cover the front porch swing but still too wet out there. Plus a few other jobs that need to be done....

Joy, happy to read all is in order...

Jane, hope your electrician comes today and that will be one less job to worry about. Hope today is an easier one for you.

Larry, we did have a nice lunch, we both love the shrimp and the rice pudding there. She brought us a sympathy card they both signed for GG and a delicious banana bread she made!!

Gloria, heavy clouds here this morning but just maybe the sun might peek out. Hope you also have a sunny day.

Mary Ann I will look for that as I have noticed that product here but have yet to try it. I am so used to putting a pot of homemade  on the back of the cookstove and just letting it cook. This might be something to have on hand when I don't feel like making a pot.

Lloyd, hope you caught some zzz'ss..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Everyone. WE had some heavy rain with thunderstorms last night after 8 pm.  Today we will get up to the mid-60's with a chance of rain all day.  I don't have much on the schedule for today except going to the Thursday coffee after picking up my friend.  After I return him to his apartment I will stop at Walmart to pick up a couple of prescriptions for Pat and then pick up an online grocery order.  I plan to spend the rest of the day restfully as am tired today.  Scott didn't make it out after dinner at the Church last night so am not sure when he will get here.  It could be later today or later this week. We made our plans for Thanksgiving and will go to Cracker Barrel on Wednesday for our Thanksgiving dinner.  I plan on getting a pumpkin pie from Costco that we can have on Thanksgiving.

Joy, does your living facility have a nice library?  We didn't make candy last year but may break down and made some peanut clusters.  Pat found a great recipe that uses the crock pot.  It is very easy.  The hardest part is dipping them out on wax paper as the recipe makes a lot.

June, nice to see you had some cool and cloudy weather to enjoy as a change.  I am sure we would enjoy living at Rountree Gardens.

Jenny, I was looking forward to watching the election returns as it met we might get sometime off from the incessant political ads on TV, mailers and phone calls.  I am glad your school bond issue passed.  That was one thing that the county we moved from over in Georgia had supported for a long time and they have many beautiful schools although they had a had time keeping ahead of the continual population increase in the County.  From the 1980 when we first moved there with a population of 100,000 it had increased to around 900,000 people by the time we moved 4 years ago.  Most of us don't like paying the higher taxes but it sure makes it more palatable when you can see something tangible from them such as schools, libraries, parks and other public facilities that benefit the whole community.  Thanks for the info on the Eagle Scout requirements.  As I recall on the features of Mimi's restaurants is their delicious muffins and the food was good.

Carol, a two-hour class is a long time for Seniors.  I hope you found the class worthwhile and a little humor never hurts.

deAngel, I sure wasn't watching any of the returns at 3 AM although stayed with them until midnight, much after my normal time to be asleep.

Lloyd, nice to read you are having such a good time.  It sounds like you will have to get home to rest up from your vacation.  At least it is a nice change of pace.  It sounds like Nancy misses her own home.

Jane, it sounds like a bad day at Walmart for you.  Had you made the manager mad to give you two of the worst registers?  Glad your tree cutting project has been completed and the added bonus of getting the rain gutter and down spout cleaned.  It sounds like things are moving along for you and glad to see your son is taking care of the electrician for you.

Amy, it sounds like yesterday was a dangerous day for driving with seeing the two accidents.  We are finding it is great to have food in the freezer for the main part of a meal as often neither Pat nor I feel like dealing with getting a meal.  I expect tonight will be some homemade enchiladas that we had frozen but are in the refrigerator now thawing.

Amy, I think you will enjoy the soup when you try it because it is not all broth, it's a lot of noodles and chicken.  I've been known to eat the contents of the can, but usually there is some left, but not half of it, June.  I don't get two meals from the can.

Still can say good morning.   It is a sunny day, but supposed to be a rainy week end and then get down in the 40's all next week.

Larry, yes, we do have a nice library.  I have been told that it had been the office when it was still a school.  There is also a computer room attached to it.  I think there are 3 or 4 computers, and a printer in there.  I really don't think it is used to much, tho.  They recently started a program for paying your rent on-line and there was a couple times set up for people to learn how to do that.  I am not sure just how many people do that.  Most of the ones that I know do not.  Most of the residents just aren't that interested in working on the computer.  They have had classes in the past for ones that want to learn, but I don't think they had a very good response.

A lot of older people just aren't interested.  I love my computer and, like MaryAnn has mentioned, I. too,  spend a lot of time on it.  But, I love to look up things and I have several other groups that I participate in and of course, I love to look at the webcams.  if I can't sleep, I will come out and get on the computer and that kind of relaxes me and I can usually go back to sleep.   I don't do any banking online, but I do shop on different sites.  And, I do enjoy my e-mails.

I have a friend who is in her 90's and she has moved in with her son and DIL.  They have encouraged her to use an I-Pad, ( I guess that is what it is) instead of bringing her desktop computer.  And, she is not happy about that, as she finds it so confusing.  Sometimes her e-mails come through and sometimes they don't.  I am sure her son would help her more, but she is hesitant about asking.  She said they are so busy with their own jobs, that she hates to bother them.  She will send me an e-mail and then call me to see if I got it.

My son and I are going to my grandson's for Thanksgiving.  My oldest son always has dinner, but if I go to my grandson's I get to see the great-grands  I am not sure who all will still be going to my son's.   I feel bad, but it is hard for the grandchildren to go there, as it is nothing there for them to do.  My other two sons don't have any children,  so they are just not used to having little ones around.  And, there house is not all that child-friendly.  Too many things to break !!!  But, we did the same thing last year, and it all worked out ok.

I am slow getting myself together today.  Have been very lazy so far.  Now, it is almost lunch time, so hopefully, after lunch, I will get motivated to get a few things done.

Jenny, I will add my congratulations to your grandson on achieving his Eagle scout project.  That is a great achievement, especially at 13 years old.  My two oldest boys were in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts but didn't stay with it once they got out of school.  I was a Den Mother and my husband had been a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout leader.  We enjoyed those times.

Hope everyone will have a great afternoon.

Joy

Amy, I have always enjoyed a Chinese Buffet where I can choose my food. I like egg drop soup and shrimp and lobster sauce over rice the best. They also have king crab claws.  Our last RH luncheon was at a Japanese Hibachi that was fun,

Joy our library has what they call kindergarten classes for  folks who know nothing about PC's  I took the class on learning how to use E Bay.  They have a lot of other classes.  I enjoy posting here my email and of course playing games

I think I had better go get dressed its nearly 1PM.  That's the trouble when I come to the computer after breakfast, I lose track of time

, that was fun.

It and my hearing aids both are just a little better than nothing at all. may be like Nancy says I have selective hearing. but brother says they have very bad computer
service out here. sure is good to visit them but I am short of being home sick.
Have a great rest of the day,

Lloyd, if you are almost homesick and Nancy doesn't want to go to Idaho, I think it is time you turn toward Missouri.  That will give you incentive for another trip next year.

Jane, I tried to think of a crack about dipping and dippy but none came to mind, so you're safe.  You put me to shame with all of your baking and cooking.  Even your dogs eat better than many people do.  Keep it up; it's what gets you to 87?  (80s anyway).

Gloria D, we have a Chinese restaurant near us and a meal costs $4.95, maybe less.  I'm not fond of Chinese, but I like what they have and their plates are always loaded, more than I can eat.  Of course, I usually bring half of my order home anyway.

I've been watching freighters go through the Soo locks and it amazes me how those superstructures make it across Lake Superior.  That is the only place those ships go (Great Lakes).  Some of the superstructures are the equivalent of 7 or 8 story buildings, plus the two or three story base ship.  And several are quite old but are kept in shape.

There are people in Lake Michigan and I assume they are body surfing.  The whitecaps are not very numerous today, nor very wild.

Good afternoon, just got my internet back. It has been off all day from the time I turned my PC on this morning. I finally found the Cox phone number and called. I could hear different noises on the phone and then the phone went off. So tried the internet again and it is on. I talked to a few other tenants here and they had no internet either. Odd, the TV and phone worked but not the PC. Glad it is back because it is almost time for my daughter to get on Skype. Do not want to miss that.
No other news so just want you to know I am OK. Sun is out and that makes 2 days in a row. Of course we have rain in the forecast again for tomorrow. We are more than double the normal rain fall for this month. Sure glad it was not snow. we would have had about 7 feet of it and this is only the 8th of the month.
See you all tomorrow morning I hope.

Reading the posts,
AMY  only home made sop is any good, I dislike canned ones.
LARRY 2 days in a row of sunshine here.

JOY  not much happening in my life lately so nothing to write about. No one interested about me complain about how my back feels. That is boring even to me.

JENNY  Matt could have a good career in the boy scouts later in life. Looks like her really enjoys it.

CAROL  my older son has been at his sister's place outside of Kingman and the weather has bee great, better than all the rain here.He and my DIL will be coming home on the 14th and is is supposed to be freezing when they get here.

GLORIA  de  I did not stay up to hear the results of the voting and was disgusted in the morning when I heard the governor here was reelected even after all the lies and messes she has made, but this has always been a democratic state. Very few Republicans have held that job.

LLOYD  a vacation is always great and time away from home and all the work but it is always good to get home again.

JOY  last month we all got letters from the company what own this building that wanted us to pay rent online. I will not do that, and only a few here have computers. We have a library with books on one side of the room and 4 computers on the other side of the room, they all need a tech to work on them, only one is working and only to play games, cannot get online anymore.

Gloria, I would think the computers available to you would not be private as personal computers would be.  We are always advised to watch what we put on public computers.  Those computers may not fall under public computers, but I'd watch it!  I know you said you wouldn't do it anyway.  I might do it with my personal computer, but not a public one.  I do pay some bills by way of my bank.

Homemade foods are always better but if you don't cook and don't like store bought brands and don't eat those, what else can you eat?  The soup I mentioned to Amy is good, almost thick enough to be a stew.

MARY ANN, you could have said that I'm having a "dippy" day.  That's what I told my niece earlier.  Back to the job.  I took some time off to do some errands that were becoming necessary and now I'm making dog food.  Then back to the packing.  I finished all the crackers that my niece ordered for her friends.  The rest of their stuff will be ready when the girls go home for Christmas.

That will be Bridget's last trip to or from school because she graduates in December.  I'm not sure of the date but I'm going to try to go.  It will probably be at night and I won't be able to unless someone goes with me...or I go with them.  We'll see!

Back to work...

Gloria this motor home is as good as home and smaller so not so much to clean.
Only thing I have found I so far i dislike enough i am going to change is the bathroom stool, it is way too short.is hard for us old folks to get up off of it.
It fits OK and is comfey enough other wise just too short. the generator sets up in the very front a good murfferling system on it so dont here it while parked and sleeping. good AC and Heater system both. and when it is not to hot or cold the dash heater or AC keeps you comfey enough. and with the gen up front and
bed in back you can run it and sleep comfey. also when you are parked where you have a electric plug like here at brother or a rv park you can hook up. and i fiend  that even with deisel fuel @ 3:39.9 and 8 MPH per galleon it leaves a little bit of$$$$ in your pocket over motells and you can pull into a truck stop
any time you need to take a rest day or night. good night and sweet dreams all'

Good morning everyone..

Shoot, I thought the clock said 6 but it was only 5 ,I am up to stay now.
Managed to get done what needed yesterday. Swing covered, some laundry, split some kindling  and the fridge cleaned.

Today ,we are picking up our neighbour when he takes his truck in to get a plow put on and I need to deliver a quilt. Plus cleaning but that is a never ending job... and put the plexi glass in the screen door.  I don't need to look for work it follows me around!

Lindancer, would love to go to your buffet, this one has shrimp but no crab legs or lobster, which I thoroughly love.

Joy, I would be lost without my computer I was very nervous at first but now I am good to go! I have met friends from all over the world and didn't leave home.

Mary Ann, a bowl full of noodles with butter and garlic is a meal for me instead of potatoes..I am going to see if the store has that soup today.

Gloria, they are calling for snow today, not much but still snow. We know it is going to come sooner or later..Yesterday turned out so nice, I didn't wear a coat while doing the kindling just a fleece pullover.

Larry, it is nice to pull out a meal from the freezer that you and Pat have put together and not have it full of salt like the store bought tv dinners.

Jane, did you taste test any of these crackers?

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had a gorgeous day yesterday and today....guess what?  We have a 100º chance of rain by noon.  When will it ever stop?  Nothing has a chance to get dry!

You ask if I taste test the candy as I go along.  The answer...only if it has coconut in it!  That's one kind of candy I can't keep my hands and my taste buds away from.  The rest is for others.

I'll be off to Wally World for my shift at 10.  Wish me short lines and lots of smiles.  It will be BUSY!  It always is on Friday!

AMY, you are way too ambitious!  I haven't cut any wood since I stopped camping but I used to be pretty good at it.  I've had a nibble on the wood from my trees.  Someone is supposed to call me this week.  His wife works with my daughter.

I guess I better move on!  I have things to do before I can go to work because when I come home, chances are I won't feel like doing them when I get home.

Are the flies worse this year than every before?   I don't remember having so many in the house at this time of year ever before!  They're like a plague!  They even seem to attack me whenever I'm still.  Maybe I took the doggie screen down too soon.  Or maybe it's all the wet weather.  Or maybe it's just my turn!

Have a great day Everyfriend!  Swat flies!

Good morning everyone, slept great last night for a change and still did not want to get up, I was so comfortable I did not want to move.

MARY ANN  the computers down in the library do not work except to play games on, cannot  get online with them and I will not do any banking online. What is the brand of soup you told Amy about, I must have missed it. My CNA helped me make some chicken stock for soup and I have the containers in the freezer so when I get the urge I will have that to make soup, Have enough to last the winter and I know what  is in it and not too much salt.

JANE  seems like most folks cannot see well driving at night as they age. I can see that in my sons now. Only if they have to do they drive after dark.

LLOYD  know what you mean about the stool being too low. In this building they are all tall enough. At my son's house where I lived before I bought a 3 inch thick seat(?) that fit under the seat. That worked good. I looked online for something but not sure where I got it now.

AMY  when my son gave me his old computer I did not want it. My grandson set it up and was telling me how to use it. I told him to write everything down because I would never remember. I was 70 at the time and now I would be lost without it. Chopping wood you generated enough heat to work without a coat. We have another storm coming in later today with more rain.

JANE  you and I would have to split that last goody that had coconut in it. Like you I never seem to get enough  of it.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone. It looks like we will be having a cloudy day with a good potential for rain. I have nothing on the schedule for today except to take it nice and easy and get some extra rest as seem to be very weary this morning even though I had a good nights sleep.  Yesterday as I was driving home from picking up a large online grocery order from Walmart Scott called and said he would be out shortly and would help get the groceries into the house, which he did and I very much appreciated.  We visited for awhile and then he installed the new Brother's Color Laser Printer and seeing it was connected to all of the computers.  I hope to never ever buy another inkjet printer cartridge.  We will keep the two inkjet printers in place to use for scanning only at least for now.

I am going to ask for a bye today on individual comments as just don't seem to have the energy to do so today.  I have read all of the postings since I posted yesterday.

Gloria, it was Progresso Chicken Noodle soup I told Amy about.  It has a lot of noodles and chicken and the noodles are short which I appreciate.   If you have the chicken stock, you can make your own soup - if you want to go to the work.  You would know how much noodle and chicken you want.  But try the soup.  It is nothing like Campbell's soup.

We have the threat of snow by evening as the temp is only 34 degrees now.  I noticed when looking at the Soo locks yesterday that they had flurries that did not stay.  I haven't gone there yet this morning.

I think I'm not done reading so I'll post this and see what is ahead.  The only message was from Larry and I had responded to that in Norm's Bait and Tackle - I hope you feel more energetic soon, Larry.

MaryAnn,  I like the Progresso soup, but it all has so much salt.  I know when you make your own you can adjust the salt to your own liking.  I never had a problem with salt,  but since I had the swelling in my legs and ankles,  I have been trying to watch the salt.   I tried Mrs. Dash and didn't like that at all.   I have found that Old Bay Seafood Seasoning does not have that much salt in it,  which really surprised me..  I have been using that to season things.  I don't use enough to make anything that spicy.  Just gives a little more taste to things.

Larry, I mentioned over on Norm's page that I am sorry you are not feeling all that "chipper" today. So, I hope after resting today, you will feel lots better.

Gosh, I have been using the computer way back since one of my grandson's grandfather gave him one. He was maybe 10 years old at the time.  He lived with us and after it all got set up, I would fool around on it.  That really got me interested and I got my own not long after.  That was over 20 years ago.  And, Amy,like you mentioned,  I can go all over the world.   And, I,too, have made some very good friends over the years.  Most of my friends are not interested in having anything to do with a computer.  I kind of look at it as being a kind of lifeline for me.  It can calm me down when I am feeling kind of "antsy:".

Jane,  hope this busy Friday will not be too stressful for you.   I so envy that you can get so much done and I  get tired reading about all you do.  I  have to get my act together and look for some of the energy I had a while back.  Just having a hard time getting motivated again.   Hopefully, it will return soon.  Just have to  make myself get moving again.

Hope everyone will have a nice afternoon.   It is kind of a dreary day here on the east coast.

Joy, I learned the computer at work before I retired in 1986.  I bought a Tandy 1000 and printer while I was still working and I've been computing ever since.  I don't remember when I went online but Norm was part of the Aardvarks on Prodigy and I don't recall how I got there, but if I got online in less than a minute, it didn't cost him anything.  I bought the computer because I wanted to put genealogy on it.  Well, I have genealogy on the computer and lots of it.  I don't know how many computers I've had - a few desktops and several laptops.  But 1986 was 32+ years ago.  I bought my first laptop to take to Florida when Norm and Dot were there in the winter and Norm didn't want to share his computer (desktop) for long.  He was driving down then and took the whole outfit in his trunk.  I liked the laptop so much that Norm decided to get a laptop too and that's all he had after that.  It amazes me that we have people in our groups that live in Israel, England, all over the US, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Australia (did I miss a country?).

I don't notice the salt in the Progresso Chicken Noodle soup but I don't use much salt anyway - just a sprinkle on meats.  I am not one who salts before tasting and even then, I may notice the taste is off but it doesn't occur to me to salt anything until someone else salts their food.  Crazy taste buds?

Good Afternoon Everyone,  from the
cold,  windy and a bit wet,  rocky
coast of Maine.

I am learning about pulled muscles
and  how hard it is to deal with them,
and how important it is to deal with
them correctly or they will not heal well.

My problem is minor.   It is my right arm.
(The arm that I broke last year... which has
healed well,  and working fine.   Not as good
as new,  but good enough.)

I did some "hand laundry" here in my
kitchen a couple of weeks ago.    I
hate going down to do laundry in the
laundry room,  so I hand wash things often
here in my apartment.

Well,  apparently .... while wringing out
some of my underwear,   I pulled a muscle
in my right arm... (all the way up to my shoulder)..
It didn't hurt right away but started giving my
trouble about a week later,  and has continued
to do so for the last few weeks.

The biggest problem I believe,  is that
I did not realize just what harm I did to
it for many days.    So many days went by
that I couldn't remember hurting it...  I kept
waiting for the arm to feel better and it
just never has.    Probably because I
haven't been treating it correctly,  not
realizing just what I did.

Dummy,  huh???

Well now I know and I will be very
careful of it  from now on.     When I
read up about pulled muscles/tendons
on the internet,  it stated that it could takes
weeks if not months to get better, if
miss handled because of being unaware of
the problem....

Fortunately,  it is my arm,  and not my
back or my legs....  so I can pamper it
by just being very careful...

I hear  people talking about  other parts
of their bodies that are hurting and I am
grateful that it is only my arm for now....

Best wishes to all who are struggling
with parts of their bodies that are hurting....

As they say  "Getting old is not for sissies!!!!"

Best wishes,  Everyone ..

Mary Ann, we did have Kelly for a long time, from the isle of Man. I think we also had one from Scotland, She wrote a lot about Edinburgh

Gloria, I keep chicken broth in my freezer all the time, I use it in a lot of my cooking, I do not use salt when making it, but I do use  chicken bouillon which I did not check for salt. My next door neighbor buys a lot of roast chicken from BJ's. He gives me the carcass but leaves a lot f meat on the bones. I just cook it up with a lot of veggies

Jane, I hope your day went better n=then a few days ago at work

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm home from work and I was wet, tired and droopy when I got home.  So I took the doggies out, fixed them a little snack and heated up a pint of my "just-made" veggie soup.  Boy! Did that ever taste good.  And now I have on warm clothes, my bedroom slippers and I'm ready for a nap.  I think if I go take a nap now, I might get some crackers dipped later.  (Still having "dippy" days!

I drew 2 of the busiest registers in the store this morning but it didn't get really bad until near time for my break.

I hope everyone who's feeling droopy, feels better soon.  I hope everyone who hurts, stops doing that soon.  I hope everyone who is being rained on gets dry!  I hope everyone who's hungry, eats.  I hope everyone who is lonely, finds a friend.  Anything else that is bothering you....go away!

Now I'm going to sleep if the doggies will allow it.

Dear Dippy Jane - sleep away and I hope the dogs don't bother you.  Here you hoped for easy registers and you got busy ones.  I have a cat that thinks nothing of jumping on the bed, then me, expecting some attention, not caring that he woke me up.

Gloria D, I don't remember who might have been from Scotland, but I do remember Kelly; he's been gone so long that I don't count him now.  I did forget a couple and had to go back to include them.

The winds at Grand Haven have picked up and there are numerous whitecaps and the window by the camera is foggy.

I guess it's almost 2 months since I moved into my retirement cell where I will spend the rest of my days.  I can't remember how many times I have started this post and then cast it aside because it seems full of self pity and that is the last thing I want to convey
The accommodations here at the retirement home are fine and my sons did an excellent job in their selection, so it remains for me to adjust to my new lifestyle. Most of my treasures I was able to retain (including my cd collection), but my books are gone and other items of remembrance; painful reminders that one man's treasure is junk to somebody else.
But let's not dwell on the past. The here at Chartwell the staff are friendly and for the most part, helpful. My fellow residents make sure I don't lack for wheel chair assistance, and when, for example, I wheel up to the dining room, any number will get up from their places to wheel me to my place. These are the gestures that make my new home welcoming. There are ongoing activities in which, I am embarrassed to say, I have not become involved, but will in the future. Most significant will be a visit from Santa coming in a few weeks. I am looking forward to that. Unfortunately, my forgetfullness has not abated, nor has my ongoing fatigue, but I plod on. I will attempt to post more frequently, but I have said that before haven't I, but I mean it. Bye for now.

HOORAY!!!!!!!  DON's here!  It's so good to "see" you!  Come back often!  We miss you!  And you do not sound like you are complaining.  You sound like you are trying to adjust and finding kindness where you are.  Keep it up!

I had my nap and I'm going out and put chocolate to melt and then feed the doggies their supper and get some for me, too.  By the time we finish, the chocolate should be ready to begin.  I'll be back later to let you know how far I got through the spread crackers.  I've decided not to try packing them tonight.  I have a nice container that will fit in the fridge and I'll pack tomorrow.

I've signed up to be a part of RISE AGAINST HUNGER.  They pack meals for school age children in countries where this is needed.  Beginning at 7:30 a.m. with set up (I'm not doing that) and ending at noon, they claim that 40 volunteers can pack 10,000 meals.  I wonder.  They have a gong that is struck every time we reach a hundred.  We have people from our church and following their practice, the entire swim team from Bucknell University will be joining us.  Isn't that neat!  I think it will be fun...also tiring for an old lady but I'm doing it!

Gotta go feed the stock!  Later friends!

Quick note tonight, have been working myself silly trying to get ready for winter around here.  Breaking records tonight so have the pool pump running day & night to make sure nothing freezes.  Pool man will be here frist part of the week, depending on weather.  Furnace man can't get here until Nov.26th & at least, the RV is taken care of and I've brought the rain gauge in so it doesn't freeze.  Got to put the canvas cover over the AC... all these things Andy has helped with the last 5 years so am having to double check with him that these other people do things right.  I paid him what these other people charge, most of the time more because he does extras when he's around, but he did go teach his classes at the college today.  His wife took him & had access to Wi-Fi so she could keep up with her teaching (math classes).  She took off 2 weeks so we'll all pitch in driving him for 2-3 more weeks.  His lung hasn't filled out yet but Dr said it may not for months.  A long way to go but so far seems to be doing okay.  Don't know how long they'll keep the picc line in for antibiotics, but he is taking all of the instructions serious. Thanks to all for the prayers... we are most grateful!

Don, when my father had to go into "assisted living" we had my brother's daughter fly back from the east coast where she lives, to check on his medication.  She has a doctor's degree in geriatric medicine & we were concerned that he seemed to sleep so much.  She explained that the meds he was on was what they recommended for the patients in the 3 clinics she headed up, "so they didn't hate to get up in the morning".  Could be you are having a problem with something they are giving you & maybe could change?  Or maybe they can give you less, we aren't all alike so hang in there, I'm sure you will find a way to brighten everyone's day.  Sorry it is taking so long to feel at home, sounds like a nice place.  Come visit more often, we do miss you.

Amy, we just had a dusting of snow that melted on the streets & driveway as fast as it fell... a little lingered on the grass but was gone pretty quick. Will have to get the snow blower ready one of these days.  Right now it's time to feed cats their "midnight snack".... I do love winter but not quite ready this year.

Sweet dreams & God Bless.... prayers for those in need, especially with the terrible fires in CA.

I'm up and ready to greet the day...I think!  There is snow in our forecast today.  I'm hoping that it won't amount to much because I think my SIL has to do one more swipe of my yard with his mulching mower to take care of the leaves.  And I have to get out there with a rake and rake them in from the fence so the mower can chew them up.

Today is the day my church is doing the RISE againt hunger project and we want to be sure no one stays home due to the weather....including me.

I'm off to get dressed and find a baseball hat to take along.  They said "bring a baseball hat to wear or wear one of the nets we provide.  I really dislike nets!

Have a good day, get things done...or not.  Whatever pleases you!  The day is YOURS!

Shiver me timbers, it is 26° F out there and high winds to help the cold through you!!! Laundry will not be hung on the line today.

We will head north to a wee hamlet to a craft show and to pick up daughter in loves quilts. They are back from the quilter and my friends daughter brought them this way. Then home to do more baking and laundry.

Jane, what a wonderful thing you and other are doing. No doubt there will be lots of laughter  too.
I don't care for nets either but had to wear one when working at the Quaker Oats..happy to take it off at the end of my shift!
Did your electrician come?

Better scoot and get ready to go, first I have to wrap the gift for the neighbours Mom.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Larry, hope you are feeling a lot better today and the zip is back in your step. If this keeps up maybe a visit to your Dr might be in order. Low iron maybe??

Shirley, happy to read Andy is coming along. Just hope he doesn't push himself to the limits. All your work will get done in time..seems over whelming now but one day at a time..

Just a quick good morning.  A pretty sunny day, but very windy and chilly.   Have turned the heat up to take the chill off.

Jane, what a great project you will be doing today.   I know you will enjoy making it a good day.

There is a nurse coming at 11 a.m. to finish my discharge.  Will be a quick visit just to take vitals and finish filling out the paperwork.  They all have been very nice and really have kept up on everything.

I will probably check back in later in the day.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Joy

Hi Everyone. The morning starts out cloudy but we are suppose to get some sun this afternoon.  Our temperatures will get only into the mid too high 50's today and tonight they have a freeze warning posted for our County.  I will have to say goodbye to my blooming azaleas that I have been enjoying for the last few weeks.

I had a totally wasted day yesterday as spent most of it laying down or just sitting in my easy chair. I had another good night's sleep and feel reasonably refreshed this morning.  However, I am going to try to stay in today and will skip my Saturday meeting.  I want to feel up to attending Sunday School and Church tomorrow. I did an online order from Costco for some non-perishables and that should be delivered sometime today. To get the free shipping the order had to equal or exceed $75 but that isn't hard with Costco. This will cut down on some of the big items we need to pick up at the store like paper products and a large box of coffee pods.  I look forward to watching some college football games this afternoon and early evening and later this morning I want to call my good friend over in Georgia.  I had told him I would call yesterday but just didn't have the energy so sent him a text begging off until today. There is nothing else on the schedule that has to be done today.

I have written long replies to several of you in Norm's B&T, which I usually read before coming to the Soda Shoppe so will try not to repeat myself.

Joy, I have used computers almost from the beginning starting with the Atari 400 many years ago.  Several years later Pat decided she wanted to see how the computer worked and she and I tried to share a computer, but that didn't work out well so it wasn't long before she got her own computer.  We set it up in my office but that didn't work out well so soon moved it into her sewing room.  Then the laptops came along and that is now the main one she uses with only the iPad up in her sewing room.  I have never regretted learning to use the computer and now can't imagine life without it. I tried to interest my Dad in it but other than to play a few games on it he had no interest and they never owned a computer.  Like Mary Ann I have long lost count of the computers I have purchased over the years.  I do know that the next laptops I buy will be the lighter weight ones although they will be more expensive.  I am toying with the idea of my next laptop being one of the small iMac's.  I really like the Apple products and no longer have many programs that will only work on PC's.

Sandy, sorry to hear that you are dealing with a pulled muscle.  My wife mentioned this morning that she thought she had pulled a muscle in her shoulder area as it was hurting last night and still this morning but had no idea how that would have happened.  I hope your pulled muscle soon feels better.

Jane, taking a nap if you were tired sounded like a much better idea than dipping crackers.  Do the managers have any idea which will be the busiest registers or is that just something that happens?  Maybe folks so enjoy going through your line that they line up to have you help them.  That sounds like quite a project to pack so many meals.  Glad there are some young people who will be coming to help with the project.

Don, what a pleasant surprise to see your posting yesterday afternoon.  I was glad to read you were able to take your CD collection and most of your other treasures with you so you can continue to enjoy your wonderful classical music. Change can be difficult when you have lived in one place for a long time.  As you said we can't dwell on the past and have to make the best of each day that we can.  It sounds like you have met some very nice people and sure it must be nice not to have to worry about fixing your meals?  I hope you will try out some of the activities available to you.  My father would never take in any of the special activities they had when he was in the nursing home but preferred to stay in his own room.  Will you be the Santa visiting the residents there?  I do understand about fatigue taking away our interest in doing things.

Amy, are you throwing snow balls at someone or just entertaining the idea?    :2funny:  I saw the pictures that Bubble posted for you showing the snow.  I sure am glad I live in the South where we don't have to anticipate snow.

Shirley, glad to read that Andy was up to teaching his classes at the college yesterday.  So glad that he seems to be recovering.  Glad he is taking his medical instructions seriously. My grandparents took the Arizona Highways magazine for many years and I used to like to look at the pretty pictures.  I do think when the humidity gets up about 50% in the house it may have something to do with how I feel.  We have been having a few days where we didn't need to run either the AC or heat, which helps keep the humidity down.  However, most of the tiredness comes from what I may have done that day or the day before and how much angina I have had.  The nitro pills always seem to leave me feeling a bit tired.

I'm home from the church and the food packing.  Not including set up and cleanup we packed 10,000 meals in about 2 hours.  I'm amazed!  And we did have people of all ages there to help.  I think the youngest was about 8 years old and I'm thinking I might have been the oldest at 83.  I had a sitting job and it was pretty much fun and pretty easy to do.

I did learn that all the food this group packs goes to school children or learning centers for the parents of the children.  Also, if you signed up on line to help, they let you know by email when your food is shipped and where it goes.  That's pretty neat!  Kind of made my day today to do that.

Now I'm going to feed me and the doggies a noon snack and put the chocolate on to melt and get in some "dippy" time.   Enjoy the rest of your day!  I'll let you know how many crackers get dipped.  It won't be anywhere near 10,000 in two hours.  That's the amount of time I set myself to work on them.

Mary Ann and Bubble. Thank you both for bringing back memories of those that have gone before us.....I always admired Katie....she had spunk ! And Papa John and Cornelia were so devoted to each other. How I miss them. P.Roe was another one who knew who she was and was proud of it. Good kind folks and I pray we will all meet again in Heaven. I wonder if God has a special corner for those of us that love one another Unconditionally.

I am staying home today.....looking through some old books and memories, and I have a t.v. diner that sounds like it needs to be tried out. It is a Lean Cuisine brand, Parmesan crusted fish with pasta in a fire roasted tomato sauce topped with cheese. Then I will have a light supper of cottage cheese topped with canned mixed fruit.

Tonight at 6:30 we will have Mike Chamberlin playing and singing songs of WW11. If I am not too sleepy, I would like to hear him.

I hope you all have a happy, healthy day with much to be thankful for. Love you all, June

June, I think I have had that fish dish and probably enjoyed it.  I try to get frozen fish dishes because Tom doesn't like fish and I don't know how to fix fish.  I hope you feel like going to the entertainment tonight as it sounds good - our kind of music!

I am watching golf right now but I think I'll take a nap.

Gloria de, no we didn't have to dig out..I left the driveway alone and just maybe tomorrow the sun will do the work of removing the snow.

Snow is so pretty, dresses the pines in a fine lace..

Amy, as long as I don't have to go out in it, I like the snow, especially on the pine trees.  A heavy snow makes them look so beautiful.  But I remember the days of driving 15 miles to work and 15 miles home on snow-covered roads.  The Road Commission does a good job of clearing main roads and expressways and I now leave the driving to Tom.  On the north side of our building there is snow but the sun has done away with what is on the south side - our front yard.

MARY ANN (and anyone else who is interested) I'm not "dippy" any more.  I finished dipping all the crackers today and tomorrow I'm going to become a "bag lady".  I'm planning to get all the crackers packaged and into the cold room to wair for giving.  However, I did put some in the Hidey Hole for all of you to try.

After my morning of packaging food and my afternoon of dipping, I'm tired.  I think I try to get to bed early tonight and I'm not going to do anything that takes energy.

JUNE, your musical program tonight sounds like something I'd like to hear.  I don't suppose you could listen twice...once for you and once for me?

I think I'll play a couple of games and then go watch a Christmas movie through my eyelids.  I wish you all a pleasant evening, a good sleep and a great tomorrow!

Good morning on this 100th anniversary of  Armistice Day !  That is what it was called when I was growing up.  I remember my mother talking about this special day.  Now, of  course, it is called Veterans Day.  A day to remember all the Veterans.

Amy, I should be getting rid of some dust bunnies, also.

Jane,  I was watching the Hallmark movie with Leanne Rimes, and never did see the end.  I woke up and it was 2 a.m.  Never did get back to sleep.  Finally got up a little after 6.  So, I know a nap will be forthcoming.  Glad you got all your crackers dipped.

I do hope I will be able to stay awake to watch the  movie tonight on the  other Hallmark  channel that shows movies and mysteries.  It is called A Veteran's Christmas at 9 p.m.  EST.

June, hope you got to the music program last night.  Sounds like ""our" kind of music .

Have a good Sunday.

Joy

Hi Everyone. We have a bright and clear morning sky and it is 44 degrees here at my house on this Veteran's Day.  I am pretty sure we escaped the light freeze last evening. Yesterday was a quiet day although we did get out around 2:30 and went to have our main meal at the Monterrey Mexican Restaurant downtown. I came home and watched football until about 10:30 last night with Georgia and Clemson winning but the University of South Carolina losing to Florida as although it was a good close game.  Today is Church Day and as of last night Pat planned on attending Church.  However, her Fibromyalgia has flared up in her neck and shoulders so know that will be a factor in her final decision.

As usual I am a bit rushed on Sunday morning so probably will not make comments to those I commented to in Norm's B&T.

Jane, glad you were able to sit down for your job in the 10,000 meal packing project.  Many hands make short work of major projects.  It sounds like it must have been well organized.  For a couple of years Pat helped with a pillow making project that the Church Circles do each year and they made many pillows in a couple of hours as it was very well organized.

deAngel, is it each homeowner's responsibility to keep the walks clean of snow and if so does a neighbor do that job for you?

June, I had the opportunity to met Katie, P. Roe and Kon as well as Papa John and Cornelia plus quite a few of the other Seniornetter's back at the Atlanta Bash in about 1998.  I hope you were up to attending the Chamberlin program and hearing those old songs is always enjoyable.

Mary Ann, we probably won't watch much golf until after the first of the year as I like to watch football and now the college basketball programs have started.

Jane, at least you can be a bag lady in your own home and only for a short time.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

Amy, BRRR!  Those dust bunnies have to spend the winter somewhere and you wouldn't want them to be cold would you?  :)

Joy, I see that our President is in France to help observe Veteran's Day (Armistice Day) along with several other world leaders.

Happy Armistice/Veterans' Day. Remember all who served and did not return and those who came home wounded and those who survived.

Good morning everyone, a cold morning with windchill feels like mid 20's but it is sunny for a change. A little rain overnight and on TV they are telling drivers to beware of black ice. Yep winter is showing up already. As Joan would have said, time to get the "Geemagotchees" out. Had another day of power going out at  times. Happening too often lately. The power company tells us nothing so don't know what is going on. This section of town has it's own power, not part of the National Grid. Never had so much going out before.

Terrible fires again in California, don't have to worry about my daughter there now but am relieved that my 2 grandsons there are  in San Diego and not near the fires.

LLOYD  know what you mean about the low stool. When living where I was I had that problem and went online -maybe to Walgreen, and bought a 3 inch Styrofoam thing that fit under the toilet seat. Made a big difference.

MARY ANN  with the stock I have with chicken in it I can make either rice. noodle or vegetable. What ever I am in the mood for and not too much sale and no preservatives.

JOY  like you I have Old Bay seasoning in my spices. I never liked anything too salty but like flavor.

GLORIA de  there is quite a bit of salt in bouillon cubes, that is the first thing listed in the ingredients.

DON   it is wonderful to see your post. I am glad you have your CD collection. At least you can always listen to them. Books do take up more room. I know I had to get rid of a few thousand of then when I moved here. Glad there is a library here but I cannot reach the 2 top shelves to see what it up there. I have been here more than 4 years now and it took time for me to feel Comfortable and get used to the others in the building. At times we have to push ourselves to keep going. Take care of YOU and post when you can. We all miss you.

AMY  OK want to have a snowman building contest?

SHIRLEY  Andy must be like you, will fight to get better. Still hard to believe he is back to work already. Prayers continue for him. Gee you had snow before we have here. Getting cold though.

BUBBLE  thank you for the link. Beautiful snow but glad I no longer have to go out in it.

LARRY  sunny here but might not get lighter than the low 40's. When I need paper or heavy items I order from PeaPod and pick the delivery time. My CNA can pick up smaller things at  the market for me. She loves to shop.

JUNE  sounds like my kind of songs, the music I grew up with in WW2.

Have a great day.

Gloria, our snow is somewhat melting, on the driveway anyway. No doubt we will get a lot more before winter is out.

Jane, I managed to get 4 more gumdrop cakes done  and one banana loaf that is in the oven now. I had a dab of pineapple leftover and some bananas so put the two together into a loaf. I was going to make some Moose Farts but that is for another day.. A no bake  cookie  that makes the young ones giggle  :2funny:

https://www.rockrecipes.com/moose-farts/

Larry, happy to read you are feeling a lot better. I looked out this morning and there was a robin all fluffed up, I thought maybe he was hurt but when I went near he flew into the tree. Hope he makes it through the winter. We have crab apples for him to eat and if he is still around tomorrow I will put out cranberries will google and see what else I can put out. He was into the birdseed I put on the ground for the coves so maybe there is something in that they eat??

Good afternoon  sunny but very cold.   Yesterday we had snow for about 5 min.

Gloria, if you had snow I am sure you had to look fast as I did.mmIy got very black over the sound, toward your way.

Joy at my age I still say: Armistice Day, also Decoration Day

Sandy, You know people have to have a reason to go shopping

Amy, now that is too cold for this old gal :o

Larry  Management owns the land, but we still have to pay the tax on our part.  winter is rough on us as we are expect to kep walks and driveways clear,  Even though their trucks come by and fill the drive way in again. I still watch golf, Matt K. is looking good today. Did you read where  Saudi Arabia offered Tiger  3 million to come over there and play golf, and he refused

HAPPY VETERANS DAY.  🇺🇸🇺🇸  Thank you to all who have served this great nation of ours, and to the families that supported them❣️

It is a snowy Sunday......not that much snow on the ground here at our home, but other areas did get quite a bit.  It is very cold and will be for a couple of days, then we will warm up a bit.

Thinking about all of the poor folks in California that are faced with the awful fires.  All of our family are safe at this point, but it is really frightening how much area has burned, and sadly may continue to burn.  The smoke is very bad in Paso Robles where Mark and Megan are.  It is just frightening.

Incase I missed thanking you personally for all of your very kind and supportive comments about our soon to be Eagle Scout, I thank you very much.  We are very proud of Matt and the project he chose, “stop the bleed”, for his service project.  He will be working now to get all of the emergency kits in his school supplied with all of the needed items to accomplish this task. The feed back he has received from the staff at his school has been phenomable.

DON, it is good to see your post.  I think of you often, especially on Sundays, when so many of us used to always enjoy your radio program so much!  Glad to read you are settling in and am happy that you were able to keep your CD collection.  I think you are making the best of your situation.  None of us are ever ready to make that change in our lives, and yet, in most cases we are blessed to be in a nice safe place, just the same!  You take care and know that we love to have you join in here anytime you feel up to it.  Hugs, dear friend.

JANE, I am glad we no longer need to refer to you as “Dippy Jane”!  Wow what a job you had of getting all of your treats made.  I enjoyed tasting them, so thank you for sharing.  I did enjoyed them but was rather glad AMY did not share any of her “Moose Farts”! Just kidding, of course, Amy🤪🤪. You did a great job of helping to pack the 10,000 meals yesterday.  When you have enough volunteers a task like that can go pretty smoothly.

SHIRLEY, why am I not surprised to read that Andy went and taught his class?  Sure glad he is feeling strong enough to do this.....but I do hope he is not over doing it.  You have so much on your plate as you  to prepare your place for winter!  Speaking of over doing it!

LLOYD, I do hope you are enjoying your time on the res visiting your son and his wife.  I look forward to hearing how you two are getting on.

No Bronco Game for me today, LARRY.... we have a bye week.  They sure would not want to be playing here today as it is really cold out there.

MARYANN, I have to agree with you in that it is beautiful to look out and see the snow on the pine trees, especially since we do not have to get out in it and drive like we used to have to do.  I do complain about the cold, and know that I shouldn’t......but, I do.

I hope EVERYFRIEND has a good  rest of your Sunday.

Jenn

Wouldn't you love to be so wealthy you could refuse a mere 3 million to "play" anything?

Been watching for the rain turning to snow but not here yet.  At least the wind isn't blowing leaves into the pool like yesterday. I couldn't get the skimmer basket out to empty one time, suction so strong, so had to turn the pool pump off to get it out & then it didn't want to get pressure so had to lube the big "O" ring in the pump... hands were frozen by the time I got back in.  Looking out back the view went from bright yellows & reds to brown so fast... several months & the trees & ground will have that light green haze of spring.  Guess we all heard "the older you get the faster the seasons go".... they are zipping by for me!

Anyone in here make the German chocolate cake from scratch?  I was shocked to find none of the Baker's German sweet chocolate bars (in the green wrapper) but had several other types... found the empty box that held what I wanted. And my store no longer carries the Baker's Angel Flake cocoanut.... what's this world coming to?  I've checked online with Target & Walmart but finding little "Out of Stock" notices with them, too.  I've been baking this cake for about 50 years so upset MY stores are not offering what I need.  One more place to look, off my beaten path but have found things there that aren't available at the bigger stores.  Will have to work around the pool man coming because that cake needs to be in the oven on Thursday so the Turkey can roast on Friday to finish up with noodles on Sat.  Nobody really interested in the turkey, just the flavors one needs to go in the turkey/noodles.  I put a little of every herb & spice used to make Pheasant Under Glass, along with fresh garlic, onions & celery.  The broth is SO yummy.  Bought a turkey breast yesterday & am going to get a turkey since the breast doesn't have the giblet package... that I boil & chop to go into either gravy or noodle dish.

Looking dark & threatening out right now... hope we don't have an ice storm with the trees in my yard still full of leaves, will break limbs off, for sure.  I picked up 4 of the biggest bags of leaves & dumpster full for the trash pick up this week & yard is totally covered again & trees don't look like they are missing any.... Most of the neighbors don't pick up but one time, I've often thought of hauling the bags to their yards since my trash service limits me to "4 bags or bundles plus the big dumpster".  The way this house sits, leaves from the west just stop at my front sidewalk & stay.  (gripe-gripe)

Amy, when we have robins come too early or stay late, I fix the ones that knew us some scrambled hamburger & egg... since they can't get worms or bugs.  When we first noticed a robin eating from the snack tray (on the ground) where I fed the baby ducks, it was eating cooked rice & just about anything I put out for the ducks. I put water in the tray since the ducks slurp up food along the river edge... bread, etc.  Started keeping track of that robin & sure enough, it was hanging around to share. She came back for 8 years (I went back through videos & still photos), such a neat thing....  I'm laughing so hard at your "Moose Farts" I can hardly type.... pray tell, what are those ingredients???

You do keep busy, Jenny, & think Matt chose a good project. Andy's son organized a place in the county park, to sit & listen to lectures on the surroundings, etc.  Paths that led up to it & all the wood chips, etc. & benches to construct.  Turned out nice & they do find out it is a job to "organize" all that helped.  Someone said, "like nailing Jello to a tree"...

Well, I'm all finished being a "bag lady" for today!  While I was working on bagging, my daughter stopped by and while we talked she helped so the bagging went a little faster.

On my way home after church, I stopped at the Farmers Market looking for Crook Neck pumpkins and couldn't find any.  This was my last hope.  They make the best pumpkin pies on the face of the earth.  My parents and grandparents swore by them.  There have always been lots but not this year.  The man who runs the stand walked by and I said, "What's with the crook neck pumpkins this year?"  He said, "we can't get any.  They're rotting in the fields."  I must have looked crestfallen because he asked me if I'm from around here.  I said I was and he directed me to a farm stand where he'd seen some.  He said it was self serve so I could go on Sunday.  I went right over and they had 2 left.  So now I have some to send to Texas.  I've been sending them to my daughter ever since she moved there and couldn't find them.

So tomorrow, I'll be a BOX LADY!  One to my daughter and one to my granddaughter.

Also, tomorrow is a work day so I'm hoping to make it to UPS before I go to work.  They used to be right across from WM but they moved and it's a little harder to get there.

SHIRLEY, I'm sure glad I don't have your projects to do this winter.  You make me tired just reading about it!

AMY, I copied the MOOSE FARTS recipe.  They sound good but I wonder if I might end up giving them an American name?  What do you think about Country Snowballs?

Jane, can you post  a photo of the crooked neck pumpkin please. I have never heard or saw one. Are they like the crooked neck squash, which are so delicious!![

LOL, you may call them whatever you wish, just bear in mind they are rolled in graham wafers so they would be dirty snowballs  ;D/size]

Hi Everyone. I am going to post this evening as expect to be pretty busy tomorrow morning.  We are expecting a pretty rainy day tomorrow.  I have an 8 am meeting with a friend who will be here for an hour or so.  Then later in the morning it is time to get my toenails trimmed again and the doctor's office is about 25 minutes away.  I am glad to see the appointment occur as a couple of the toenails have been hurting my toes.  I should be able to wear my house shoes again after the appointment.  Pat wasn't feeling like going to Church this morning so I went to Sunday School and stayed for the Church service.  We had a presentation of the American flag and a later recognition of our Veternan's and their spouses.  It was a nice service.

Sandy, Pat and I were talking today about how when we were young it seemed there was a long time after Thanksgiving before Christmas arrived.  It doesn't seem that way anymore.  Rather it seems like we just celebrated those holidays as the days go by so quickly.

Gloria, it must be frustrating to losing power so often.  We don't every often have power outages here and we can call and get an idea of when the power should be back on in our area and it is usually before the indicated hour.  I have two cousins that live somewhere around the San Francisco area so sure hope they are safe from the fire.  I know what you mean about having to push ourselves to keep going on certain days.

Amy, it sounds like the robin could have a rough winter.  Is it normal for them not to migrate for the colder times.  It sounds like you are baking up a storm.

deAngel, I did not read about Tiger being offered such a large amount to just come and play golf there a few days. I am sure three million means nothing to him since he is so rich.  There is an unbelievable amount of money in professional golf and much more available in endorsements and advertising some of the players do for various companies.

Jenny, you all have such varying weather from cold and snowy to much warmer days.  Glad your area avoided any heavy snow.  That sounds like a very worthwhile Eagle project that Matt has undertaken and sure his Dad had some influence of his choice.  The football teams don't seem to let the cold and snowy weather keep them from playing.  The weather is probably harder on the fans in attendance although getting slammed to the frozen ground can't be any picnic.

Shirley, it sounds like winter is coming your way quickly.  Your job with the pool sounds awful.  It sounds like you have a lot of cooking ahead the next few days.

Jane, nice to read that your daughter was there to help with the bagging of the crackers and helped shorten the work involved for you.  .

Each year, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month,

we come together to remember and honor those who have answered the call in defense of our nation.

These American brothers and sisters often see the worst

conflicts in world and have to look evil directly in the eye,

but somehow never lose sight of the principles they fight for.

Pause to pay tribute. We pledge to never forget.

This Veterans Day, and every day,

we will keep those who made the ultimate sacrifice, their families, our veterans.

Larry, he refused because of the situation over there.  A few other athletes have turned down offers also because of the murder in Turkey, I just happen to be reading a sports column

Mary Ann and Gloria de, The fish dinner was very tasty. Gary does my grocery ordering now, and he chose that particular dinner.

I did go down to listen to Mike Chamberlin and loved it. I went with my mind made up to NO'T dance…just sing along as we are invited to do.  HAH ! toward the end of the program he played and sang the Tennessee Waltz. My body took me off to the side and my cart and I did waltz. This body rules  and over-rules my good intentions. However, after the program Mike came over, gave me a huge hug, and thanked me for dancing…he said it added to the  program. WOW…was I surprised. I did have trouble falling asleep that night….mind wouldn't close down.

Went to Chapel services this morning, had a good ham dinner with friends, and then just crashed. slept, woke, slept again, and that was my day.Now it is supper time, and I have no appetite at all. I will have a carton of peach yogurt and call it supper.

Janie, your family and friends are so fortunate to have you making all that lucious dipping you do. Besides going to work away from home, you certainly don't spare yourself at home. I feel like a big zero for the little I do anymore.

Joy, the entertainer we had last night has quite a background. I typed in Mike Chamberlin on my computer and enjoyed reading his page. We all did a lot of singing along with the favorite songs of that era….brought back many memories.

Larry, I have never personally met any of our "family" members here on The Soda Shoppe, but i feel like I really "know" most all of you. I have even forgotten what we were named way back then…..aha…I have paper work from 2002….we were Bis'Nest. And I also have pictures..a collage of 24 members. I wish I knew how to share it. It is just a printed paper…..not on my computer.

Time to decide to have a bite to eat and on to an early bed-time. Sleep well dear hearts. I love you all. May God give you peace in your lives. June

I finally found a box to fit the second pumpkin.  The first is packed and ready to go and I'm going to do the other one in the morning.  I'll have to get started no later than 9:15 in order to get to work on time.  I think it's doable.

AMY, I couldn't remember how to post so I sent the pumpkin picture to you in an email.  That one will make about 4 pies so she can have them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

JUNE, it sounds like you show was a hit...at least with you.  I hope you were able to listen twice...once for you and once for me.

LARRY, it was nice to have help with the candy packing and all it cost me was one cracker for her to eat when she was finished.  But even nicer was the visit with my daughter.

Now I'm off to Dreamland.  I wish you all a Good Night and a very GOOD Tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm up and attem and both boxes are ready to go.  Now I have to go get me ready to go.  I'm kind of like Alice In Wonderland's white rabbet this morning…."No time to spare, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!"  Well I'm not late yet but I better get moving or I will be!

Enjoy your day everyone!  Ours is COLD!

Cold and overcast here this morning..snow is still on the ground.

A day of catch up here ,nothing planned...yet.

Jane, I have never seen a squash like that, I should look for seeds for next summer. I bet the pies are tasty from that squash!!

June, makes one so happy to read you had a good day and a great dance to the music..

Larry, hope you don't make yourself tired with all you have to do today..

We should soon hear from Lloyd I would think.

Shirley, the recipe is with the post..and he has a lot of other great ones there. I am going to try the cherry cake next .

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a warm? 24 this am at  8:30. The cars and roofs I can see are all white. Go t an email from my grandson yesterday and he said he will be here with my greatgrand this afternoon to check out this lemon again. Yippee.

AMY  I got side racked right off when I got here with the link you posted. Hope you don't mind if I send the link to my daughter. I really had to check those recipes and my mout h was watering over some of them, the snowballs looked like what I used to  make but mine had dates inside gut with the fudge I bet it is wonderful. Nothing like home made fudge. My son had robins in his orchard all winter.

GLORIA de  we had no snow yet. Yesterday was a bright sunny day but cold. Like you with me it is Armistice and Decoration days too.

JENNY   seems like we feel the first cold of the season a lot but as winter gets here we do kind of get used to it.

SHIRLEY  I used to bake the German chocolate cake but no longer bake much is anything. Sad how they stop making things we love.

JANE  gee from a bag lady to a box lady. Hope you keep warm in that box. When I used to send the boxes to California I collected containers all year to have enough to fill for the 4 of them.

LARRY  I could call the light company to find our about the power but it would no help the power come on any faster.

JUNE  glad you had an enjoyable time and even got a dance in.

Have a good day, stay warm.

Good chilly afternoon. I just wish the wind would die down

Gloria, it was 26 this AM. I use to like German Chocolate cake. I remember when I was little, I would go to the cemetery on Decoration, and she would put pansies on my grandfathers grave.  Also there would be a couple of flags on the radiator cap on the car. I do not know if it was a clip on or a special cap.

Amy, good to read you had and easy day

Merry Monday while watching four bright red cardinals and their ladies at the bird feeder - making bright spots against the wintery sky and "sloppy" snowfall (hasn't covered the ground and would be rain if the temperature were a few degrees higher).

Have been spending my time reading e-books, playing Bridge, watching t.v. and generally being "leisurely"..  This week looks to be about the same.  Ho Hum

DIL had successful knee replacement last week and is doing well with P.T.  Wish I could be of practical help but it would be the "lame leading the lame".

Yesterday,  I enjoyed  phone chats with Miss Emily and Sir Carson as they were on their way back to their respective schools after a weekend at home with their Mama - as well as  a nice text exchange with Miss Ellen in NYC.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Hello Everyfriend!  And Merry Monday to you, CALLIE!

I had one hard register and one easy one today so I was only half as tired when I came home.  My daughter met me in the driveway with the local newspaper with an big artical and pictures about our food packing on Saturday.  It really was a fun morning and much easier than I thought it would be.

I've had a short nap and now I'm waiting for the pesty dogs to tell me it's time for supper.  They can tell time, you know.

After supper, my plan is to make up the rest of the centers for the cups so that once I start, I can keep going until I finish that.  And after that's done there isn't much of the candy left to do.  I kind of said that like the pb cups etc. wasn't much of a job but it is.  However, it goes pretty fast once the centers are all sectioned.

I sent Ali and Cindy pictures of their pumpkins and asked them if they were ready.  They both answered with a big "YES!!!"  The one to Dallas is to be there Thursday and the one to Tulsa on Friday.  They must both go the same way just like my plane was going to go when I was thinking about flying to Tulsa.

The doggies are on the prowl.  They just went out so I expect when they come in they'll be telling me it's supper time.  Enjoy your evening or your late afternoon or whatever it is where you are.

Parked the RV in the drive and left the generator running to keep it all warm so we can take our time tomorrow un packing it. we woke up this morning with it raining , but it turned to snow. did not get slick and the traffic and salt soon had the highways clear. sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone.
Welcome back home Lloyd. Going to make this a quickie as I have a date.. Remember the dances I had last winter??Well, they have started back up again and I need to to a waltz with......hmm not sure if Mr SB or Mr Shovel with get the first dance. Be back later.

Enjoy your day everyone.

I'm up and attem for a bit but had things to do.

AMY is waltzing with SB and Shovel.  I've been having a session with BILL...you know, that guy that wants all my money.  He sure is greedy.  I'd like to show him the door but when I do, he finds his way back in anyway.

AMY, all your snow showed up here as rain.  While I've had my fill of rain, i think I still prefer it over snow.

Sorry, the boinger went off to feed the doggies and when that happens they get all excited and I drop whatever I'm doing to tend to their needs.  I'll be out and about doing some errands today and then I'm going to deal with a container that I took out of the freezer because it wasn't labeled and it turned out to be cut up chicken in broth so I'm going to turn it into Chicken Corn Soup for supper.  Then I'm going to get a start on rolling peanut putter cup centers.  I wish I could think of some automated way to do that but so far I've come up with a big NOTHING!  So I still do it by hand.

I hope you all have a good day doing whatever suits your fancy!  Enjoy!

Good morning everyone, 20 degrees warmer than yesterday but of course it is raining again. Wind is supposed to be bad later but mostly along the shore. Once again the forecast is for 1 to 2 inches of rain.
I had visitors yesterday, My grandson and great grandson. Loved it. My grandson worked on my PC once again and I now have 1 drawing on my fridge and one with different shapes glued onto a paper from my sweet little one. Been many years since I had things like that on the fridge.

GLORIA  de  my family moved so much there were no family graves where we lived when I was growing up so we never went to cemeteries and my father never had a car to go anyplace.

JUNE  nice to see they celebrate everyone's birthday like that.

CALLIE  I have not seen a cardinal since I moved here and I miss their bright color. Have seen few birds since the witch will not allow any bird feeders in the front of the building anymore. In the back it is different, feeders and big pine trees and many other trees down to the river back there so  more wild life, even deer at times and wild turkeys.

JANE  I envy you still making all those goodies for Christmas. I enjoyed doing that knowing my family enjoyed them and looked forward getting them.

LLOYD  glad you are home safe and sound. Hope you slept good last night.

AMY  if possible enjoy your dancing today. Just heard on the news that we might see the first flaked Wednesday night into Thursday morning. What a welcome home to my son and DIL.

Have a great day.

I'm impressed, Lloyd, back home & no terror tales of things going wrong or falling apart on your first long trip. That man you bought the RV from must have taken care of all the warranty work as needed.      I was concerned that you would be caught in the snow in Kansas... the whole state was covered yesterday & night before, with temps in the teens & feels like in single digits.  Wrecks all over Wichita but worst on the overpasses & highways.  I'm surprised at you leaving the generator on overnight, I have a heavy duty long extension cord that plugs in the garage & just open the little side panel & back to having power for frig, etc running until I am ready to unload.  Guess you will be looking forward to more trips soon, most around here go south to the Gulf for several months, have all that fresh fruit & veggies.

Jane, glad you are so far along with your Christmas cooking... I'm still trying to get through the Thanksgiving bash here.  Must get out today for a whole list of supplies but gave up on finding that Baker's German sweet chocolate bar (daughter is flying it in on Thursday) & will check one more place for the Baker's Angel Flake coconut.  Need to get the turkey, & case of bottled water & must make at least 3 stops to get everything.

Radio just said the "streets are snow packed & black ice", so think my shopping will come a little later in the morning.  I'll give the people that have to go to work a chance to wear the icky stuff off.  Youngest son said he got a couple miles on his way to work yesterday morning & so many cars off the road he turned around & went back home to work from his computer until noon, then it was no problem getting in.  The strong winds keep blowing the snow across the roads so until they warm up or get a chance for the melt stuff the city spreads (our side streets don't get treated), we have to tip toe when moisture hangs around.

Mama Callie spent the night in the house last night, didn't move away from that furnace vent under the kitchen sink. I got up at 2:00 am to make sure all was well, all 3 closed in the east end of the house.  Nobody had used the litter box & no smell of anyone having an accident, so I'm going to take them out for a visit to the big grassy litter box in back!  Callie is cleaning herself up.... I fed them salmon about 2:30 before I went back to bed, fixed myself an egg & 2 pieces of toast & fresh pot of coffee.

Amy, when the pool man comes to winterize & gets the new cover out of the storage shed, I must remember to get the snow blower out where I can get to it if we get a bunch of snow.  Need to move things around in the garage to make room.

Everyone used to be surprised that my father would drink coffee & go to bed & right to sleep.... works the same for me.  My sister couldn't drink coffee in the afternoon & go to sleep at bedtime, she finally gave up coffee completely because "it made her so nervous".  Think I'd better stop & take the cats out, want to make sure they know the routine so will wait & watch.  Have a Terrific Tuesday, everyone!  (Thanks to Callie in OK)...

Hi Everyone. We are in for another cloudy and somewhat rainy day.  My main activity for today is a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription and to get a few items we need so we can delay our next trip to Costco a couple of days. The person I was suppose to meet with this morning had to reschedule until tomorrow morning.  So it should be a pretty quiet day.  Yesterday I did get to the podiatrists office and had my toenails trimmed and also met earlier with the friend who came over.

mycheal, that was a very nice and appropriate tribute to our military and their families who have and continue to sacrifice so much for our country.  I was angry yesterday when I heard that the President of France made the comment about the European nations needed to arm to protect themselves from Russia and from us.  I guess we have been such a treat to them in the past only fighting two World Wars to save them and then help them rebuilt.  GRRR!

deAngel, thanks for the followup info on why Tiger turned down so much money to play golf over there.

June, nice to see that Gary is now doing your grocery ordering for you.  Glad you liked the fish dinner.  I remember we used to get frozen fish sticks that were always tasty.  Now Pat fixes Tilapia, which we like a lot and it doesn't have the breading on it like the fish sticks. It sounds like you made a hit with Mike Chamberlin.  I can still hear Patti Page singing the "Tennessee Waltz" as well as a couple of other singers. We don't need to meet in person and sure each of us has an image in our heads of what the other folks must look like and the avatars helped in that regard. I hope you were able to enjoy your birthday supper last evening.

Callie, it sounds like you have been enjoying your activities.  Nice to have the time to be leisurely.  Joint replacement are really something anymore and your DIL should see great changes when she complete her recovery.

Lloyd, glad to read you have arrived safely home and that you had a good trip even if you did arrive home very tired.

Amy, sure don't envy you going to those dances this winter.  Please be careful when you are out in the ice and snow.

Jane, isn't it expensive to ship pumpkins?  You wouldn't spoil your family members would you?  :)  Pat fixed an acorn squash with stuffing in the middle for our dinner last evening.  She had a really had time cutting the squash in two.  It was quite tasty.

Gloria, sure hope your grandson was able to get your lemon fixed up again.  After many rainy days we really do appreciate those sunny ones even when it it cold.  You are right about our inability to speed up the return of electric service by calling.  Those pictures on refrigerators are really special.  Like you it has been many years since one adorned our refrigerator and not likely it will ever happen again.

Shirley, I never like to hear of wrecks due to snow and ice. Be careful when you are out today as you have a lot of work to do in preparation for the holidays.  :)

well we did have a good trip all in all, but i was filling water tank and left it filling too long and ran it over had a valve in the wrong position and it split water on the power converter and burnt it out ( changes the power from the genrater to 120 volt or 12 volt where it is supposed to be, it cost $585. and some change a holder for the indignation came loose and shorted some wiring but I got it backed off with out doing damage. a $100 labor got them put back in shape.
a total of $685 all together. all we spent except fuel. Nancy hasent added it up yet to see how much we spent. but I think we spent less on fuel than we would have spent on a motel every day if we would Ben traveling in car. got up this morning and had cows out and helping them selves to hay. not what they eat that way but damage to it. I seen where the went back so I have to go repair the fence. we are very cold here down to 11º last night. sun is shining and no wend so docent feel so cold. I think I am going to go take a nap for a while before fixing the fence. I un roiled a big bale of hay for them
so don't think they will be bothering for a while. Nap time see you all later.

Pumpkin is all cleaned and cooking.  I always cook before peeling.  It's easier on the hands that way.  I have some time to myself so I thought I'd see what everyone is up to.

I see LLOYD decided to check out the zzzzs.  I'm pretty sure that's somewhere in my future today.  I did the outside errands and once the pumpkin is cooked and packed, I might close my eyes for a bit.  Tonight I want to start making PB centers while I either listen to music or  watch a movie.

Still wishing you a good day!

I'm off to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night's rest and a happy day tomorrow.  If I'm the first one here in the morning, I'm not talking.  I'll wait until you all have your say!

Good morning

Ok Jane , you can speak now :)

We are picking our neighbour up this morning, he is taking his truck in again to see if they can put a plow on it again. They have to modify the mounting harness somehow..lets hope it works this time. I need to wash and vacuum our vehicle as he may use it to take his Mom to a Dr appointment. He did try to rent a vehicle but nothing at the time was available yet.

I also need to "fix" what the road crew didn't, they left a winrow of gravel along the side of  the road and can you just imagine me hitting that with the snow blower? It would be like buckshot going off!!

After removing the snow yesterday I tackled a long awaited job, putting recipes that were either given to me or I had downloaded into plastic sleeves and finally into a binder.....that job is done...….now to tackle quilt patterns next!

Larry, seems you had a nice quiet day and hope today is also a restful one for you.

Shirley, there are so many things to do to get ready for winter and somehow it sneaks up on you. I still have to put the markers out along the one walkway. Today I will try and remember to do that!

Gloria, I didn't hear anyone say they didn't like the snow yesterday......we were all saying just how beautiful it is!

Lloyd, hope you found more zzz's

June..missing your posts.

Joy ,hope you are ok and feeling better.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Amy and Jane, (when you get here)..

Amy, I am doing good. I am here early, as I have an medical appointment this morning and got up early, so I don't have to rush.

Hate getting up when it is still dark out.   They are calling for a "wintry mess" tomorrow, so I am glad my appointment is today.

Still need to get a shower and get dressed.  Couldn't eat any breakfast this morning, so that gives me a little extra time, also.

Amy, good luck with all your errands today and  Jane, hope you have an easy day.

Will try to check back later on in the day.

Joy

Well!  There you are!  At least SOME of you are around and talking.  I was very lonely yesterday!

I'll be off to my post at Wally World this morning but not until 11.  I have an errand to do and I'm going to try to do it before I go to work.  I'm not sure how the timing will work out but maybe it will have to wait for tomorrow.  We'll see.

LLOYD, you are very lucky to have Bob for a friend!  He seems to show up at just the right time whenever you need him.

AMY watch out for those stone piles.  It seems that road crews really don't give a hoot about the people along their routes.  They just do their job and that's it!

It was down in the mid 20s over night but it's all the way up to 34 right now.  I do believe winter has arrived in my part of the world.

I hope you all have a good day!  Take it and make it your own in every way.

AMY I did and a couple of friends came over yesterday and drained all of the water and liquid lines and holding tanks on the R V . they are coming back today and put the safe antifreeze in the lines for the winter, wish I had a heated garage for it. I could park it in the shop but not heated there. and I would have no place to go play. I did catch up with Peter on Skype this AM. we had a good chat even chatted with Gene, she came in and took Peter;s head phones put them on and visited. well it is time to go to couch and fiend a good movie and maybe a short nap. too bad I don't do a better job of sleep at night any more.
Too much abuse when I was driving a truck in my younger days I guess.
Have a great day just as you like.

Shirley when we were coming home we wanted to jog up your way and see you but it was snowing too much at the time so we just came on home. Nancy was too un wound. so we decided we would get the RV home and put to bed for winter, we will in the spring take another jaunt and try to make it happen then.

Good morning everyone, loo like winter in on the way. When I pulled up the shades and looked out I thought I was having eye problems seeing a bit of white flying by at times. Just heard on the news we will be having snow flurries at times before it turns to rain. At 30 I would rather see snow than rain. Rain would freeze on the road. My son and DIL will be leaving Arizona tonight and landing here at 1:30 in the morning and then driving home. They left their car in Long time parking at the airport so no one has to go pick them up. I pray the weather folks are wrong once again.

SHIRLEY  I used to be able to drink coffee and sleep but now after the morning coffee I do  drink any more after that.

LARRY  if you put an acorn squash in the microwave for about 1 minute it will soften it just enough so it is easier to cut, When I get one now I wait till one of my sons come and cut them for me. I was surprised when as soon as my little one came in he handed me 2 papers and told me they were for my fridge. Love it.

LLOYD   now you know what not to do with the water on your next trip.

JANE  when I made those PB balls and dipped them in chocolate I had a special spoon I bought for the dipping, worked great and better than the toothpicks I used at first. The recipe I had called them Buckeyes.

AMY  hope you have better luck than me getting those recipes into the binder. I have so many old ones and new ones that I want to do that with but they keep piling up and I have the plastic sleeves in the binders already but never seem to have time to do it. Just lazy mostly. I still love looking at the snow even if I no longer get out to enjoy it. Too scared of falling now.

JOY  I am lucky, all my medical appointments are in warmer months with no snow. I have a problem putting on winter coats. Too heavy not for me to handle.

Have a great day.

Hi Everyone. We are in for another cloudy and rainy day with 100% chance of rain this evening and a fairly high percentage chance throughout the day.  This will be a relatively busy morning as between 9-11 the man is coming to check my oxygen concentrator for the normal 3 month checkup and at 10 am a friend will be here to work with me for an hour. I have completed all of my morning kitchen duties including just fixing Pat's breakfast.  Now it is time to rest awhile sitting here at my desk. This evening is our annual Thanksgiving Day Wednesday night meal at the Church with turkey and dressing and all the trimmings.  This is the one evening a year we have several veterans from the VA hospital, usually in wheelchairs, join us and also the rescue or comfort dogs will be there again this year as they were a big hit last year with not only the vets but also all attending the meal. Later Scott will be out to spend a couple of hours with us.

Lloyd, sorry to hear your little accident with the water was a pretty expensive one.  At least you know why it happened.  Were the cows glad to see you back feeding them or were they indifferent as long as they got fed?  Nice of your neighbors to help you get the motor home ready for winter.

Jane, I suggested to Pat that in the future she cook the squash before stuffing it since it was so hard to cut.  I have no idea whether that was a good idea or not.  How did you cook the pumpkin?  I hope you were able to get some of your PB centers made last evening if that was what you wanted to do.

Amy, you sounds like the type of neighbor we all would like to have as always there to help when needed.  Good luck with your sorting.  I did organize Pat's printed out recipes sometime ago but she keeps printing them out and haven't gone back to update the index.  Yesterday was a restful day for me.

Joy, I hope your medical appointment this morning goes well and it doesn't tire you out too much.  I also hate getting up when it is dark but found I could turn the light on in the little alcove before we go into our master bedroom and it provides light to get dressed by and see what I am doing.  It doesn't shine in Pat's eyes so doesn't wake her up.

Gloria, I bet you will be glad to see your son and DIL safely home and I sure hope they don't experience any bad conditions from the airport.  This will be a long day for them as that is a long flight.  Thanks for the info on the softening of the acorn squash and I will certainly give this information to my wife.  I had hoped that my medical appointments were over for this year but think I am going to have to go to the prompt care facility to have them listen to see if they can hear any accumulation of fluid around my heart or lungs as have been coughing quite a bit and wheezing, almost like gurgling at night when I go to bed or lay down in the afternoon.  I had occasion to talk with my cardiologist's nurse yesterday afternoon and she encouraged me to have it checked out.  I plan on doing that tomorrow morning after I take my friend back to the assisted living facility as the care clinic is right up the street from where he lives.

Good Wednesday Morning,  Everyone from
the very cold and windy, rocky coast of Maine...

The wind chill factor here is 13 deg F.... and
windy,  which means that I have to dress warmer
inside,  and put on my Lasko  Cyclonic Ceramic Heater..

This along with my insulated black out window
curtains,  helps me maintain the heat
in my apartment when days are cold
and blustery.        Winters is here!!!

I had an appointment yesterday with my
Urologist, and am pleased with results,
which turn out to be pretty normal and
uncomplicated for  a gal my age...

This ends many checkups that I have had this
Summer with good results.     (YEAH!)

So now on to the process of continuing to age
and dealing with the normal obstacles that
are found on  my journey into old age.

I am in "great shape for the shape I am in",
and hanging in there!

Which I am very grateful for!

Have a good day,  Everyone
Sandy
:D

GLORIA, I don't make peanut butter balls and dip them.  I make peanut butter cups like Reese's only better!

Gotta get a move on or I'll be late for my show at Wally World.

LARRY, I cut my pumpkin in large pieces and then steamed it and let it cool then peeled it.  Then I stuck it in the food processor.  It's a lot easier now than it was back in the old days but it's still time-consuming.

The furnace came on early this morning - it is cooler in Tucson now - but much colder at home in Colorado.  We are this year going to be home for Christmas and first a birthday party for Don (a December baby).

Congrats to the young Scout!  Good for him!

A shout-out to our Don Reid!   :grouphug:  We care about you.

We are invited to a younger couples home for Thanksgiving - it is so sweet of them to include us.  I try not to think about how different it is being away from family and it will be so nice to be home for two weeks at Christmas.  Am under orders to not do any kitchen work, etc. and they are planning our lives now from the moment we arrive.

Amy:  Moose Farts are in the Pinterest site so I saved the recipe (I think it is saved).  Thanks.  Stay well, how is hubby?

Sandy:  Sorry about your pain with the muscle pull.  Would a sling help your arm?  May each and every day help heal your arm.

Gloria:  I hope your family in Kingman are doing well.  Wondering if they have smoke from the CA fires.

One son is in San Francisco this week an he tells us the air quality is really poor from all the smoke.  There are so many sad stories from these fires and more to come I am afraid to hear.

I baked two loaves of pumpkin bread yesterday and plan to make 4 more this week.  Also, made a pumpkin pudding (it wasn't anything to write home about).

Happy Birthday, Don, may you have many more.   I also hope your health will improve to the point you can fly to Israel again.

I'm home and glad to be away from WM today!  I hadn't heard the weather report but someone told me the prediction is for up to 8+ inches of snow tonight and into tomorrow.  That's why we were so busy today.  It was worse than any Friday with the possible exception of Black Friday

I managed enough energy to pick up the odds and ends on my list after work but now I'm beat right down to my sox.  I'd say I'm all in but my shoe strings but I'm not wearing shoes with strings.  I think I'll go grab a nap and see how I feel after that.  I might mix up something after supper tonight.  I'm playing it by ear.

I'm also a bit confused.  Whose birthday is it today?  I thought Carol was talking about her husband, Don's birthday in December and all at once, we're wishing our Don, aka Radioman a happy birthday.  Please clear the air.  I don't want to miss anything.

Sandy, I'm sorry if I missed something about your arm.  I thought it was on the heal.  If you are having problems, I'm so sorry.  Do whatever you have to for relief and don't worry about what doesn't get done.

Later, friends!  You all take care of YOU!

I hope you had a nice day.  Best wishes for many more.

Today is my Bob’s 75th Birthday.  He has talked to all of the family but we did not get together with any of them today.  It is so hard for the families to do things during the week.  Hopefully we can celebrate this weekend.

It was a bit warmer today and it sure was welcomed.  We went out to lunch to a Cuban Restaurant.  It was interesting, and I doubt we will go back.  Nothing bad, just not something we enjoyed that much.

CAROL, our family in Paso Robles are dealing with the smoke as well.  Those fires are just so frightening.  I knew it was cooler down your way, but nothing like it is here, thank goodness.  Happy you have a younger family to share your Thanksgiving Meal with.  We plan to be in Vail to be with Dr. Dave and Family, if the weather will allow.

LLOYD, I have to be honest to tell you that I am shocked you are already back home.  I thought sure you and Nancy would want to spend more time in Arizona enjoying the warmer weather.  Happy your good friends can help you out with getting the motor home winterized.  I wish I had a motor home as I sure would rather be in Arizona than here in the cold and snow.

I hope EVERYFRIEND has a good evening.

Jenny
