Good Morning All, warming up out here, high of 86 today and sunny.

I will be going down for a Coffee Klatch and a movie of the last missionary trip one of our young man was one.

Just remembered.....I forgot to do my arm and leg massage and exercises this morning, so maybe I will go down this afternoon for the Balance and Mobility class. Gotta keep the old body mobile. I wonder if there is an exercise to make the brain remember things?

Carol, I have read several of Jan Karon's books and liked them. She is a fine lady.

Gloria, I pray you will feel better today and keep feeling better till you are fine again.  Did you run a temperature ?

Hal, you don't sound too "perky" today my friend. I keep Christian Bros. brandy on hand to put in a cup of hot tea and honey. Works for me.

Mycheal, glad to see you popping in on us now and again. What are you up to these days? Any snow yet ?

Time to get the body downstairs for the meeting. See you later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Shirley

I am over my "bug".... about 36 hour one but sure was having a pity-party for myself.  Can't remember when the tummy felt so awful and all I did was feed cats & snacks for myself & sleep.  So far this morning I cleaned leaves out of the pool & switched the well from sprinkler system to add water to the pool so I can leave it running overnight, supposed to get down to 22°  tonight & the electronics of the filter we put in last year are at risk if water not kept moving.  Don't have time to drain down & open up that filter for winter storage this week, but this is a solution.

Amy, I'll say what everyone tells me when I have to give up an old appliance, "Don't expect the new one to last like the old one did..."  Would you believe I am still using a gas dryer that we bought for the new house we built back in 1967?  It is an awful avocado green & we've put several belts on it during the years, but none of the ones my kids ever had dry as fast.  As long as it runs I will keep it, son says he can put a new belt on when time comes.   By the way, I'll be checking out the hidey hole for some hot bread, nothing can taste as good as hot bread with butter melting down through.  YUM!  Hey, my little Encore has a heated steering wheel, never appreciated it as much as this winter already.  I've had the car 3 years but old "arthur" has not been as painful as this year so heat feels good.

Wishing all of you a happy day, this is one busy week around here.  I'm going to bake a turkey tomorrow to have all the giblets, drippings & chunks of white meat to flavor the broth for the turkey/noodles.  I have a stainless steel stock pot so will put all those juices in it & put in the little apartment frig in the basement.  Cooking the noodles the next morning won't be any problem to get them to the dinner on time.  I used to do the noodles the day before & Thanksgiving morning I'd have another turkey in the oven along with a spiral ham.  I even made refrigerator rolls & peeled a 5 lb bag of potatoes & mashed along with the veggies & fruit salad with real whipping cream.  Don't know how I did it without any help, but everyone loved it.  My recipe for refrigerator rolls makes enough to use 1/3 of it to make into a loaf of cinnamon twist bread with icing on top.  Couple hours later we'd have the birthday cake, back then only 1 birthday, now so many to celebrate I have to get out the calendar to count.

Thanksgiving comes with lots of memories, remembering the best times makes it all more meaningful.  Enjoy whatever your day/week brings.  While you are remembering those good old days give yourself a grin when you go to bed at night because you aren't as tired as those busy old days!  Enjoy today!  Love ya' all.   Shirley

Good Afternoon Everyone from the
seasonally cool but sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.

I am doing good with no complaints except this is the
season that I hunker down and "lay low" until after the
new year.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving..
I am going over to Kelly's for "Turkey Day".

We are going to have Lobster's etc,  for a change!!!
Funny!

Enjoy,
Sandy

Carol, I am not sure I'd trust the driverless car and I think they will not be the "norm" before I am no longer around.  I think I would risk a ride in one just to see how it goes; I'm not a serious risk taker, but I do dare on tame risks.

Larry, I asked Tom if he used distilled water and he said he does not.  Tom always has an explanation for everything and had one for why he doesn't use distilled water but I don't understand enough about them, so just know he uses tap water.  Our water isn't too hard so if we still lived in Belmont, he probably would not use the water.

We will be going to Holland for our Thanksgiving and Dot is going to be with her SIL's brother and family.  The brother is married to a woman from Fiji who is an American citizen.

I'm in for the day!  My shift was pretty easybecause I had akk short registers most of the time I was there.

I came home, had lunch, saw to the doggies needs, sat a spell then I went out to do some errands.  One of them was to track down some lard for pie crust making.  I had a little trouble there.  The last store I went to the meat department manager said, "I usually have it but I don't have any this year."  I looked him in the eye and said "Why?"  And being an honest man he said "because I forgot to order it">  Before I left he had my name and phone number and I had a promise of lard by tomorrow afternoon.  Nice guy!

Then I finished two other things and starte another but I have to wait for some input from my son.  Unfortunately, he was out of the store!

Gloria, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.

Larry, it sounds like you and Pat shop like my sister and BIL.  For many years, They've each bought their own Christmas gifts.  They wrap them and put them under the tree and on Christmas, Margie sees what she gave Jim and Jim sees what he gave her.  They have the fun of surprise but they each get exactly what they really wanted.

I have to start thinking about supper pretty soon.  It's going to have to be microwave or stove top because I have all the candy making tools stowed in the oven so I can use the table to roll pie crust.  Hmmmm?

Hope you continue doing well   ~
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Yours.

June, I use to drink, back in those days one was too many and 25 wasn't enough.  Loved beer and scotch and playing golf, the so called 19th hole.  Anyhow, I do on a very special occasionill have one.  More than likely Christmas day I will have half glass of wine.  I respect those that enjoy a drink and stop with the one or two.  Hey there isn't anything wrong with a drink, even Jesus made water into wine, right.

Off to bed, tired, guess from doing so much of nothing.  I will try to catch up tomorrow by picking up where I left off.

Nite, nite, God bless and sweet dreams.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Well, my new dance partner arrived yesterday and the fellow gave me the run down on it, said it blows snow that good I can put snow in the neighbours yard!! VON came and to make a long story short I ended up running hubby to the Dr,he is back on antibiotics  again.

Today I need to run into town and pick up 2  4X8 sheets of coroplast this is then cut into 6" X 12" pieces that I wrap my fabric around and store in cupboards. One sheet is for daughter in love...since I caused this sewing infliction on her :2funny:

Shirley, happy to hear you're not buggy anymore. 36 hours is way too long to be feeling under the weather.I agree with you on the new appliances  too I have  older Maytag washer and dryer and they work like a charm. They are not as old as yours maybe 20 years old. I had a repairman here when one wasn't working right and he said hang on to these the new ones won't last like these.

Gloria , glad to see you are also feeling better, take it easy and stay warm.

Sandy, love the photo of Fe!!!

Jane, happy to read you had short registers yesterday.I used Tenderflake lard for years and then it bothered my stomach and switched to Crisco shortening..it is ok but I prefer the lard.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's supposed to be sunny and a bit warmer here today.  By warmer I mean in the very high 30s and very low 40s

I'll be off to Wally World again this morning.  So far, the customers are not grumpy.  It's still Thanksgiving prep.  Im not sure what will happen Thursday and Friday.

Have to let the doggies out one more time and get ready for work.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

Wow Amy!  That's a powerful snowblower!  What do you think your neighbor will say when all that snow comes in their yard?

Good morning everyone, looks like that was only being over tired because I wokefeeling OK yesterday and I slept good last night so feel much better today. Would hate to miss tomorrow at my grandson's. Fell asleep last night listening to the wind howling and woke to rain. Some places have had over an inch of it already.

LARRY  like you I did not know the answers about the singers on Jepardy. That is one program I hate to miss.

CAROL  it tiik years for me to get comfortable in the passenger seat and not behind the wheel so doubt I would ever relax in a computer operated car.

JUNE  no temperature, just worn out with chills and then sweating. Not something I ever felt before.

SHIRLEY  the GE fridge I bought it 1978 for under $400 is still running at the apartment I had at my son's house. It is still better than the GE one in this apartment, had more room inside, too. I sure miss the big freezer in it. I agree, home made bread hot from the oven and butter  melting into it, a taste of heaven. My days of cooking the big holiday meals are long over and at times I wonder how I did it all.

SANDY  ahh lobster instead of turkey  would be wonderful. Miss the days we spent at Ferry Beach when we had lobster often.

JANE  do you use lard for your piecrust? I can still remember the taste and flakey crust my Mom made.  Glad to read that now "they" have found that lard is not so bad for us.

HAL  1 drink is OK but being a drunk is not.

Hi Everyone. I got up early and started working on Pat's computer to restore some bookmarks on her Chrome Browser. It was not a big job. Today I have work to do on her computer that I have been using that I will put back up in her sewing room. Jennifer will be coming to share supper with us tonight and then she and Pat plan on playing some Farkle.  Scott has to work tonight.

Yesterday I did go to Costco and came home with a new Acer Chromebook that has a 14 inch HD screen.  They had them on sale for $90 off the regular price. It also came with a new wireless mouse.  This one has access to the full Android Play Store, which is literally millions of applications for Android tablets and phones.  I had a bit of a time getting that feature set up but I finally found all the steps to take.  The first Chromebook computer I had didn't have this feature and had only a few apps available to run on it.  It also came with a hundred gigabytes of online cloud storage for two years, which is a big plus. So Pat has her Christmas shopping done for me and these computers don't break the bank.

Carol, I would want driverless cars to be used and tested for a long time before I would want one.  I would like some of today's features such as the one that prevents you from running into the back of someone.  We bought most of the Jan Karon books of the Father Tim series and really enjoyed them.  Hope your cooking and baking goes well today and doesn't tire you out too much.

June, that is a nice temperature you had yesterday.  Not too warm but not chilly.  I would say your mind is pretty nimble.  I hope you enjoyed your exercising yesterday.

Shirley, glad you are over the "bug" as know that can be miserable.  That pool sure sounds like a lot of work.  You certainly have gotten your money's worth with that old dryer.  My son recently had to replace his gas dryer and was going to install an electric one, which was delivered, only to find there was only a gas line available.  When we got the new LG washer it removes so much of the water that it takes our dryer very little time to dry the clothes compared to our old washer.  We have heated seats in our car but not a heated steering wheel.  Glad yours helps your arthritis. Have you ever used a wax bath for your hands?  We have one but Pat hasn't used it for a long time.  It sounds like you are doing a lot for Thanksgiving.  Pat is going to fix the turkey breast in the crock pot this year.

Sandy, you may start a new Thanksgiving tradition with the lobster.

Mary Ann, maybe Tom was told it wasn't necessary to use distilled water with his CPAP machine.

Jane, was that one of the 15 or less type register lines you worked?  Hope you get the lard.  Your pie crusts must be a treat in themselves.  I haven't had a piece of pie with the crust made with lard for many years.  For big items for Christmas I much prefer doing my own shopping.  We do not wrap the item up as, like the new Chromebook, I start using it when I get it.  I did surprise Pat last year with the old Singer sewing machine.  I have no idea what I will get her this year as she hasn't indicated what she might like.  Our main gift to our son this year he got early as he needed a new bed.  It was by far the most expensive Christmas gift we have ever given him but he is now getting decent sleep.

mycheal, I expect it won't be long before you see some snow up your way.  I hope you also have a great Thanksgiving.

Hal, it is interesting how sometimes doing very little is as tiring as doing quite a bit.  I hope today finds you feeling better.  I looked forward to getting up today as had some specific computer related things I want to get done.

Amy, would your neighbor appreciate the extra snow in his yard?  :)  Sorry to read that your husband has to be back on antibiotics again but hopefully the problem was noted early.  It seems antibiotics really makes a person feel tired.  It is a shame that appliances are built to not last.

Jane, do you have to work on Thursday and Friday.  At least you would have your own space behind your register rather than dealing with the big crowds in the aisles.

Gloria, glad to see you are feeling better and getting decent sleep.  We have a pretty large side by side refrigerator/freezer and it seems there isn't much room in either as the shelves aren't very wide.  However, it serves our needs.  I would like to have a little freezer in the garage but don't think it is wise to get anymore major appliances at our age. Isn't it amazing how many of the things we were told were bad for us have now been evaluated. Thanks for the Thanksgiving card.  Wouldn't it nice if the cooking did itself.

larryhanna

Hi Everyone.I had to come back and post the following as it seems to be a good Thanksgiving eve reminder of what is really important in this life.  I hope you enjoy it:

Whether we wear a $300 or $30 watch - - - they both tell the same time.

Whether we carry a $300 or $30 wallet/handbag - - - the amount of money inside is the same.

Whether we drink a bottle of $300 or $30 or $3 wine - - - the hangover is the same.

Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3,000 or 30,000 sq. ft. - - - the loneliness is the same.

And we realize our true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world.

Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down - - - we go down with it.

Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane reaches its destination - - - everyone arrives at the same time.

Therefore . . . we should realize that when we have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, with whom we can chat, laugh, talk, sing, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth -- that is true happiness!

Six Undeniable Facts of Life:
1. Don't educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy, so when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the price.
2. Best wise words: "Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise you have to eat medicines as your food."
3. The one who loves you will never leave you because, even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find one reason to hold on.
4. There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few folks really understand that.
5. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage!
6. If you just want to walk fast, walk alone; but, if you want to walk far, walk together!

Six Best Doctors in the World:
1. Sunlight
2. Rest
3. Exercise
4. Diet
5. Self Confidence
6. Friends

And, finally:

The nicest place to be is in someone's thoughts,
the safest place to be is in someone's prayers.

Great words to ponder and live by,

Thanks for sharing them!

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope all is going well with your Thanksgiving prep.  We have changed plans for tomorrow, we are staying home and eating with oldest daughter here in San Antonio.  My sleepless nights are just not conducive to staying in someone else's house.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Mary Ann

I just had an experience I have not had before â€" Tom helped me make the pies, or maybe I helped him.  I think he feels that at my age, I’m not capable of it any more because while I was getting things together for three pies, he came upstairs and took over.  I did give the instructions, however, because I have not forgotten how to make pies.

I had two cans of pumpkin so we mixed the two cans and ingredients together.  I found a glass pie plate I did not know I had but I could not find two other glass plates and I have no idea where they are â€" in the storage room, perhaps.  Anyway, the pies are in the oven for the first 15-minute baking and when my timer goes off, I’ll lower the temperature and let the pies finish.

I also had a can of cherry pie filling so Tom put that together.  We will take one pumpkin and the cherry pie with us tomorrow and leave one pumpkin here for us.  There will be five adults for dinner in Holland.

The pies are done and I put the oven door ajar and turned off the oven.  Tom will come up when convenient and take the pies out of the oven.  They’re too hot right now.

I haven’t made a pie crust in years.  I learned how after my mother died in 1941 and I did make them for years  until crust mixes appeared on the market.  After Pillsbury came out with their crusts that you roll out, I never looked back.  I think I did not ever make a crust with lard, so I don’t dream about such crusts.  Some times I eat the crusts and other times I do not.

As for Larry’s post, I am comfortable as I am.  I am neither rich nor poor and I’ll take life as it is.

Gloria, thanks for the Thanksgiving Day card; I had not seen that one before.

I expect to browse here in the morning, but I don't know if I'll post or not, so I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day. It is my favorite holiday because it is a family day regardless of the fact stores are making it more and more commercial.

Another day has come and gone. Did some errands in town then home to do some laundry and cleaning. Friend just left, she brought me a panel with a moose on it, beautiful!!! I can't wait till the company brings out the wolf panel, have the fox and bear and ordered the elk panel.
Tomorrow is vet day for golden girl.....she just takes it all in,no fuss with her.

Larry, I agree with those Drs in your story.

Carol

such an exciting time of the year....

Sometimes, it is nice to have a "feel good" story - I read too much history.

Sandy:  Lobster - yum  ---remembering out drive to Maine one year.

Lard:  My mother used lard for pie crusts and we always used lard for making doughnuts.

Mycheal:  snow?  It will come soon enough - where are you?

Amy:  My daughter does not sew.  She cooks and bakes up a storm though and has a busy job.  Always in motion.  I tell her that quilting is therapeutic.  Our granddaughter likes to sew a bit.

Gloria:  Thank you for the nice video.

Amy:  Is that panel a quilted one or made out of wood?  I do hope your hubby is feeling better. When you have time, could you post pictures of the panels?

My dressing  and a sweet potato dish is ready.  It is in the fridge and will be warmed before we get in the car and drive to a Phoenix suburb.  (Sure miss a normal cold and snowy Thanksgiving but too many memories of driving out to farms on ice just to be together with relatives).

Amy

Carol, it is a fabric panel and these photos do not do the panel justice....
Hope this comes up for you.

Mycheal, thank you for your thoughtful Thanksgiving wishes. I'm sure that every single one of us that post here will be very Thankful in their individual  Thanksgiving Day. We are SO Blessed.

Hal, I am thankful that you will be celebrating this special day by staying snug at home. You can remain relaxed and do what is necessary to remain secure and happy. Many of our residents here have asked me if I will be with family, and I happily say "YES...right here with this family of loving friends".

Mary Ann, you and Tom have done well with your pie bakings. I know you will have a festive day tomorrow.

Larry, I truly enjoyed your posting of what is truly important in our lives. All very true and helpful. Thank you.

I just finished a carton of macaroni salad while reading your messages, not it is time for some dessert, and then off to prepare for a quiet evening at home. Gary did our Bible study for today, and it was inspired. I can just feel his relationship with our Lord and it is so rewarding to this mother's heart. Then I had an appt. with my dear doctor and she finds I am doing well. Thanks be to God.

Whatever you do tomorrow, may it be a very Blessed day for all of us, we have SO much to be Thankful for.  I love you all. June

Mycheal, the gift of life is certainly the most wonderful gift one can give.
Unfortunately some don't realize the responsibility that goes with that gift.
It seems here in our city, San Antonio, we have so many children murdered by parents or their live in partners

We are going to get one of our coldest nights of the year, down in the 30's.  So guess we will have some frost on the pumpkin come morning.  I will throw an extra blanket on the bed.  Normally just a sheet and bed spread.

So I will bid you all a Good Night, Sweet  Dreams and God Bless.''
