Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Phyllis, it was good to see a post from you.  Please keep coming back to share your days with us.  With you and Joan posting occasionally, our crew is complete (I think).

Dot and I did not go to brunch today.  We had a guest minister who didn't know when to quit.  Our services usually last about an hour and the one today was 1 1/2 hours.  By the time we were on the way home, I felt uneasy.  I felt fine, just uneasy, so I begged off today.  It's my turn to pay so next week we'll have the Tuna Melt and a cream pie of Dot's choosing.

Today was forgetfulness day for me as I forgot my hearing aids, Kleenex and money for our Noisy Sunday (every second Sunday is Coins for a Cause where we throw our loose change into a coffee can and make a "joyful" noise.  The money goes to various non-profits around town.)  I did have some loose change that I could put in, but I save quarters for the cause.

It is such a nice day, I think the temp is about 80 - here it is early October.

Grand Haven has been active the last few days; not with people but with whitecaps.  With the warmer weather, I am sure there will be people there today.

Happy Thanksgiving, Amy.  I am sure you'll eat well.  We will have ours in Holland MI this year with Tom's son, wife and twin girls.

Hi Everyfriend.  It is so good to hear from ALL of you.

We lost power about 1 a.m. And the generator kicked in quickly.  Linda is staying at Joe's because the area around their house is flooded - Joe and Kate are OK but their place at Dauphin island has flooding.

Good Sunday afternoon, all you good people.

For those who remember me, I'm back. :)   I recently lost my little best canine buddy, Rocko...was lost myself for awhile, and still miss him like crazy, but now I am not taking care of anyone or anything for the first time in 13 years.  It feels so strange.  I figured I needed to find a good way to spend some time, and thought of you.

It's so good to see some of the same people who have been here all along.  I've been reading and reading.

I don't know what happened, Joan, but I'm really glad to see you here.  Looks like I picked a good time to stick my nose back in the Soda Shoppe.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, been raining all day, I feel  bad as the Riverhead Country fair is to day they close the main roads in town and all along the river there are booths set up, also the boats dock all decorated.

Joan, good to see your post, but sorry to read about flooding around Joe and kates place.

Amy Happy Thanksgiving.

Phyllis, so glad to see you posting.  Some days I just come in and read all the post.  My knee is very sore, and has a couple of cuts on it and my leg also stays very still, I am using a rollator to get around.

Joy, I also have watch Sunday Morning for years.  Otherwise I watch GMA during the week.

JeanneLee I am watching the weather also, as my DIL lives on the panhandle of Fla., my g. daughter is intenn. and my other DIL live on Cape Cod. My furnace was 35 when I got a new one it was a Coleman, when they put the new one in the fellow this one will not last that long.

Jean, I guess the coffee has got cold, I was just too slow to get over to your house.

Welcome back NitaH

Nice to see you back posting, Nita.

Kate and Finlay were here to visit but couldn't stay very long.  Her sister and family, who live in Mobile, lost power because of the storm, so were on their way to Kate and Joe's to stay until power is restored.

Here is something funny JoanFL  that you should
get a kick out of.

I was watching a creepy moving (written by Steven King)
tonight on Netflix  tonight  called "Gerald's Game" ..   and low
and behold what they show near the end is a Court House in
"Fairhope Alabama"

I laughed and laughed thinking "That is where Joanie lives!!!

Sandy - That's right.  That is exactly where I live.  However, that court house is not exactly where I live.  HA, HA.

What a beautiful day this has turned out to be ! More messages from our beloved Joan/Bis. My heart is so happy. Bis, I am happy the family is doing O.K. I think we have to expect Dauphin Island to get the lions share of water, but as I recall last time it drained quickly. I figured the place you are in now is very well prepared for any disaster, thanks be to God.

This has been a blah day for me. I did get down for Church services but our new Chaplain preached for about an extra half hour, and it was a little much for many of us. He is a good man and very sincere, but this congregation is much older that he is. I hope he will not be discouraged with his new post.

I ordered my Sunday dinner to be delivered to my room. Just too weary to be with the others. I have so much food I have saved half of it which I may snack on later. A whole half of a cornish hen plus vegetables, etc. But my little refrigerator keeps things very well.

My Gary will be leading Bible Study this coming Wed. and I look forward to that. He is well liked by many.

I ordered a large print book in which I will have a section for email things, another for regular addresses and phone numbers, and a section for just "names". I need to identify with some of our workers, what they do, like our Nurses, cleaning gals, extra assistants, etc. I love them all but need to add-in what makes them special to me.

It's a great, good life even though I feel a bit worn out, every minute of every day is a gift, and I am thankful. And I love you all..my dear Seniors and Friends . :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June, I know what you mean about long sermons.  We had a guest minister today and our one-hour service went to a 1 1/2-hour service.  I kept wishing he'd quit but he went on and on and on.  Most of my trouble was that I had forgotten to wear my hearing aids and I could not hear the man much of the time.  So that part was my own fault.  Then my nose kept running and I had forgotten to take a pack of Kleenex with me.  Things go in threes and the third thing was that I forgot my loose change for our second-Sunday-of-the-month collection.  I had change in my billfold and will have to replenish that.

Other than that, everything is fine!  No complaints.  Beautiful day here today!

Mary Ann, we have had so many good and wonderful days in our lives, I guess we are tough enough to tackle a few disappointing ones, right ? Have a good night dear lady.

Good morning Everyfriend!  We're in pill wait time for the doggies.  I have no plans for today except to pick up Kiran after school lzter this afternoon.  Wonder what I should get into the rest of the day?  Oh yeah!  I could deal with those two piles of laundry I have sorted.  And I suppose I could change the bed and I bought the stuff to try those recipes.  I guess I'll find something.

It started to rain sometime around 3 z.m. and is still raining.  Weather says it's going to rain until mid afternoon.  That's OK.  We really need it.  It's been so dry here.

Lloyd, I like your plans.  Either one of the possibilities will work nicely.  I hope you are able to work it all out.  You and Nancy deserve some good times in your lives.

Now I'm going to go do my jigsaw puzzle and my crossword puzzle while I wait for the doggies pills to work.  Take today and make it yours!  Do great things even if you don't leave your room or your home.  God loves you!

Good Morning Everyone!

One of those nights, woke about 330 and never went back to sleep, well that I know of.  Finally about 20 mins ago said to myself:  self, go put the coffee on and get yourself dressed, this old night is over and was for you several hours ago.

Weather guessers say cold front coming and front MAY bring some rain and it may not.  But it will cool things off for a couple of days.

Two of my girls will be up today from Del Rio to take care of some doctor apmts and will get to see them for a little while, which will be nice.

Hope everyone has a good day and week.

Joy

Good Monday morning to all the early friends.

A very rainy, dreary, windy morning here.  We really need the rain.....just don't want a whole week of it.  The weather man says it will be a warm week with a nice weekend ahead.

I, too, had another sleepless night.   I was still awake at 4:30 , and did doze off for a little while.  Since it is such a dreary day,  I am sure a nap is not too far away.  If I start to read,  I know I will fall asleep.  Happens almost all the time.

Nothing special on this Monday Holiday.  I know there is no mail and our office staff here is off.   My son's 53rd birthday is on the actual Columbus Day, the 12th.  We will all go to dinner on Saturday.  I should have put his card in the mail on Saturday, but I wasn't even thinking about today being a holiday. It  won't go out until tomorrow, so do hope he will get it by Thursday.

Jane, by now you have taken care of your little doggies and I am sure you probably have had your breakfast and done your puzzles.  I think you mentioned that you go back to work tomorrow.   It is a shame that it is not a very nice day for your last day of vacation.

Sorry, Hal, that you also had a rough night.  Enjoy the visit with your daughters.

Lloyd, hope your traveling plans will work out for you.  It is a  great way to see a lot of the country.  We traveled for a good many years....... with kids, when they were younger, in a pop-up camper and then, when my husband retired, we graduated up to Class A motorhome and ended up with pull-along travel trailer. We had a lot of great trips and I really miss those days.

Hope everyone will have a good day and stay dry, if it is raining where you are.

Joy

Good morning eve4ryone..

Another rainy day here...love the sound of a gentle rain.

I am sure going to miss this spare dog, what a joy he has been, gets along great with our girls too. I will take him home later this evening as his owners will be back late tonight.

Need to throw some apple pies together and tidy up some......then off to sew I hope.Finished the one camp quilt  and started another last night. While I am downstairs I might as well throw a load of laundry in also.

Jane, enjoy your last day of holidays, my they sure went fast. I hope you are back on your regular day hours now.

Hal, not nice being able to sleep the  night away.

Joy, a nice nap later on may just fit the  bill for you.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, another rainy day here. Cannot complain as we have had a stretch of very warm sunny days. On local TV this morning they showed one parade where they were marching in the rain and few people with umbrellas watching.

JOY  you really did have a long day Saturday.

JEANNE LEE  we may get some rain from Nate, too, so say the weather guessers.

JANE  you said it all to PHYLLIS. We do miss and worry when a regular poster does not post. With 2 days of rain I would like to turn the heat up to get the dampness out but I would have to turn the thermostat too high and then it would get hot in here.

AMY  enjoy your TG meal today.

JOAN  glad your place had the generators kick in when needed. Glad your family is OK and hope not too much da,age to Joe's place on Dauphin Island.

NITA  welcom to the Soda Shoppe. Sorry I do not recognize your name but there are many other forums I never get to.

GLORIA de  between parades, October fests and a big Art Festrival this week end and all this rain wonder how many shoiwed up. Thank goodness for rollators, only way I can get around.

JUNE  like you I feel worn out all the time lately.

LLOYD  hope you make that trip around our beautiful country. That is something I always wanted to do.

HAL  ok Bozo, hope you slept good last night.

JANE  wondered why Kiran would have school today with it being a holiday then remembered that Columbus day is a state holiday here.

New Alphabet:

A is for apple, and B is for boat,

That used to be right, but now it won't float!

Age before beauty is what we once said,

But let's be a bit more realistic instead.

The Alphabet For Seniors:

A's for arthritis,

B's the bad back,

C's the chest pains, perhaps car-di-act?

D is for dental decay and decline,

E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!

F is for fissures and fluid retention,

G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.

H is for high blood pressure - I'd rather it low;

I for incisions with scars you can show.

J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,

K is for knees that crack when they bend.

L 's for libido, what happened to sex?

M is for memory, I forget what comes next.

N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;

O is for osteo, bones that don't grow!

Alphabet
P's for prescriptions, I have quite a few, just give me a pill and I'll be good as new!

Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?

R is for reflux, one meal turns to two.

S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears,

T is for Tinnitus, bells in my ears!

U is for urinary, troubles with flow,

V for vertigo, that's 'dizzy,' you know.

W for worry, now what's going 'round?

X is for X ray, and what might be found.

Joan, it's nice to see your posts and you can post like the rest of us do - whenever we can and/or feel like it.

Hi Everyone.  We had some really good and soaking rain yesterday, low chance today and a much better chance tomorrow for more rain.  I think the antibiotic I am taking because of my toenail removals is really doing a number on me in terms of just wanting to sleep and feeling very tired.  It was 9 am before I got to the kitchen this morning, almost unheard of as I usually get up early.  Fortunately it is a stay at home day.  Pat already got out and went to the lab to have a blood draw in preparation for her appointment with the doctor on Thursday.  I will probably post late tomorrow as have a 9 am appointment with the eye doctor to start the cataract removal process.

Gloria, I know it is frustrating to lose your bookmarks.  I have been using a Chrome Extension called Speed Dial 2 to keep track of my bookmarks.  I can export the code and email it to myself and then if I happen to lose my Chrome setting all I have to do is go to the email, copy the code and then in the Chrome setting open the import feature and paste that code in and I am back in business.  I had to do this just the other day when things got all out of order with Chrome.  Currently I am having a problem first thing in the mornings when my computer seems to lock up for five or ten minutes and after that time it starts working again.  I can't find any program working in the background that may be causing that but there has to be something.  It is very annoying.  I am a big fan of many of the Google apps such as documents and the Keep memo function as everything is available to be regardless of what computer I am using.

Jeanne, sure hope they get your new furnace installed before you need it.  A crack in your furnace sounds worrisome.

Amy, hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal today.  Very often we celebrate special days such as Thanksgiving with our son and granddaughter on a day when he is off work rather than the designated day.

Joan, sure a relief to see that you are OK and that the generator worked as needed.  Sorry to read that Linda's place has flooding and sure hope it didn't get into her house.  Too bad about the place on Dauphin Island.

Nita, sure nice to see you post again and hope you will visit with us regularly.  I wish that many of the folks who stop by to read the postings would join in the conversations.  As we all know this is not a closed group and newcomers or returners are always more than welcome and newcomers don't stay that very long.  I would hate to think that anyone would be hesitant to joint in our discussions thinking they wouldn't be welcomed.

June, it sounds like you and others may want to drop a subtle hint to your new Chaplain that shorter is much better than longer.

Lloyd, it sounds like you have big travel plans ahead.

Gloria, I liked your new alphabet.

June Drabek

I want to see how "lime green" posts, so bear with me folks.

I had a good solid nights sleep, but sure don't want to wake up yet, and it is past mid morning. Finally made myself rise...no shining...at 9 a.m.
Hal, I'm sorry you are waking in what I would consider the middle of the night. You need a full nights sleep, so I would suggest you ask your doctor for an aid. My Grandpa would suggest a cup of tea, laced with bourbon.

Gloria, I don't know your age, but at nearly 93 maybe I am expecting too much out of this aging body. How ever I phoned my downstairs neighbor this morning, and sang Happy Birthday to her..96 years for her today, and she gets out and walks the gardens like a 40 year old. She needs her rollator, but she sure steps it off sprightly. and her mind is as crisp as her walk. So I'll not give up yet.

Larry, I am sure our new Chaplin is going to get some suggestions about shorter sermons. It's sad, because he is so sincere in sharing his love for the Lord. He just has to be told his congregation is in some cases, twice his age.

Time for me to wander downstairs and see what's happening. They have Columbus Day posted, but I don't see any activity.

Good morning everyone.  I was going to pop in earlier, but forgot. lol   I'm on my second day with no morning coffee.
Two cups before anything else has been my morning ritual for a long time.  I have been having some acid reflux, so trying to see if not drinking coffee helps.  So.........my mornings the last two days have been here and there.  Funny how habits can set our tone.   What do you drink instead of coffee?  I think tea would be too acidic too.  Maybe I'll just drink warm water. haha

We are having some sunny days here, but I hear rain is coming this week.  No little wet paw prints this time.

June, sometimes pastors can talk a little too long. :)  I haven't been to church in a long time (can't sit for long), so I go to You Tube and watch the service where my daughter and her family attend.  I'm grateful he uploads each service a day after.  It's nice having a pause button too. :)

...and I didn't see your lime green post.

I need something to do with myself, so have decided to start from square one with Paint Shop Pro.  I found some beginners lessons, go at your own pace, on Yahoo groups.  When I get caught up, I might post something in the psp group.  Or not. lol

Have a blessed day, everyone.

Nita, I do remember your name from days long past, and I am happy to see you posting again. Old friends are essential in our lives as the years go by. The lime green didn't work so I'll try green. That was our Bis' color in days past.

Our Blessed Firefighters have done it again. Our Orange Co. skies have cleared again...at  least    from where I sit. From what my television has shown me, once again beautiful big homes were built in a remote area.  Hundreds of them ,  in an  area that would be difficult to protect. Man will do what man will do, buy Nature has plans of it's own.

I am thankful to see blue skies once again rather than the brown of disaster.

Shirley

I have been in to read so many times & don't think is posted since I made the trip to MO.  BUT.... I do want to welcome back Nita, I do remember the name ... in case you don't remember me as Shirley, I used to be Tisie.  Welcome home!  Life does bring changes so we have to learn what is good & what is not so easy anymore.  Gathering here is a good thing, we all recognize what others are dealing with and can encourage, sympathize or give hugs.  After all these years I think most everyone here will tell you that "belonging" truly is like having another real family.  I'm glad you found your way back and hope you will fill in what you've been doing the last few years, please?

Joan, it is so good to see you posting again, you gave us all a scare.  You seem to be in a great & safe place, smart planning!  Sorry about the flooding so many are dealing with, such extreme problems with weather lately.  My little red head broke her arm this week & had to wait for the swelling to go down before putting a cast on until today.  Broke both bones so she gets a "cast with sparkles that everyone can sign".

I drove to MO Thursday for a high school luncheon on Friday, was cloudy & rainy all day, I love to drive in rain.  I found on the last trip to Colorado that the cats seem calmer when I play Glenn Miller, so this time it played almost the whole trip, cats behaved better than any other trip!  I did try other 40s & 50s CDs but Tom started to get sick so Glenn Miller went back in to play fast.

Had an uneasy moment when I went to my favorite campground, the site I usually try for was taken so the camp host assigned me to a site HE thought was even better.  Had I realized where it was I would not have agreed, was just across the road to "lake level", where I knew the "boys club" camped together, the boaters that partied all evening & got up early to get those speed boats out on the water.  Not a place I every wanted to be.

My uneasy feeling was justified when a big RV across the road from my site pulled out well after dark, not something that ever happens.  About midnight the largest truck I ever saw pulled into the next site across the road where a camper was already in place. 2 men got out & started walking around from truck to the plug in post, then a 3rd man joined them from the camp site next to me... the light was turned off & on as they talked & walked back & forth from truck to post.  The cats were laying on the dash of my RV so I got up & watched out the window with them.  (No lights on in mine so they could not see I was watching).

All of a sudden I happened to think that "this might be a drug deal so what if they get angry..."  My Ruger came out of it's case & kept it in my hand until I felt comfortable the guys were just trying to fix something & weren't a danger.  First time EVER that I was uneasy in a campground.  I will be going back toward the end of the month, for a family reunion.  The camp host will be gone for the winter so I will park where ever I please, I am okay with this.  I usually pick a site where there are no other campers around, quiet, good TV reception & great sleeping.  If it is a nice week end it may still be crowded, my other option is a Walmart parking lot.  The cats love the activity in a Walmart parking lot but I'd rather have electric plug in to watch TV or play DVDs.

The most convenient spot/ campground I've found on the east side of Kansas City will be closed from Oct.1 for crews to set up Christmas lights, so my options are limited as long as I have to take cats.  I love the drive, no problems with altitude in MO so that's a good thing.  We had a fair turn out for the reunion but some missing that were there last year, kind of sad.  I did tell my old friends that "I wouldn't want to change one thing about the past for fear it would mean a difference in this stage of my life, and I am very happy today".  Life isn't perfect but we might as well appreciate, be grateful and enjoy what we can of each day.

Today we had a big change in the weather, temps lower, been watching for rain & storms.  I had a look at the Colorado view cams & they are having near blinding snow on Monarch Pass and in St. Elmo.  Some of the snow to move into northwest Kansas, but looks like we will go back to 80s again next week end.  I'm hoping for the COLD weather when I go to MO, I'd rather put on coats & UGGS and be comfy than deal with heat & hot sun!  What does the Farmer's Almanac say for this winter.... all I've heard is "colder" than last winter.  We hardly had winter... didn't even get to use the snow blower.  Actually, we didn't have the "over 100s" this summer so not at all a normal year for Kansas.  God Bless All, sweet dreams.

Now, Gloria, I promised myself I would keep this short ... but gotta tell you how much I enjoyed your new alphabet!

Denver

Good evening......it is nearly bedtime, but I just wanted to say HELLO.

WE are in Vail at our Boston Sons mountain home.  Dr. Dave and Family are here for the week, so they invited us up to spend some time with them.  We woke up to devistating news of the terrible fires in N. California. Dave had a private surgery practice in Healdsburg for a few years, so he (they) knows so many people in the area. Many of their friends have lost their homes and vineyards.  It is heartbreaking.

JOAN, I am sorry to read that Joe had damage again on his beach home.  It is wonderful to see you posting now.

SHIRLEY, good to hear your MO trip went well.  I would have been a bit uneasy with that activity going on in the camp ground also.  Had to chuckle at the kitties behaving better with Glen; Miller playing!

Welcome back NITA.

LARRY! good to read that the toe issue is going well....it sure seems like it would be more painful that it seems to be.

We had a big snow in Denver today.....we are expecting to have limb damage on our beautiful trees as they were still full of leaves.  I think we will head home tomorrow......

Pleasant dreams to all.
