“Give me a sentence about a public servant,” the teacher instructed her second-grade student.
“The fireman came down the ladder pregnant,” he answered.
“Umm … Do you know what pregnant means?”
“Yes,” said the boy. “It means
carrying a child.”

Good morning Everyfriend!  It was only 35º when I got up this morning!  And it's only supposed to get into the low 70s but it should be a sunny day.

Bubble, I love that joke but it always makes me wonder how that teacher explained things to that child.  She'd have to, you know, or she'd have an entire class believing his definition.  Teachers don't have it easy!

I feel rested this morning....still a bit of residual "tired" left over from the weekend activities but I have no plans for today until I pick up TLH at the bus after school.

I wish you all love and laughter!  Take this day and make it yours!

I am following the news on CNN - I am in shock.
Why, oh why???
No amount of security could have stopped or prevented such an insane act. My heart hurt for all those mourning families, all the hurt people, the trauma of those in the audience who just congregated for a fun evening.  :'(

Dear friends, please take care.

I read that article, too.  My heart aches for everyone involved.  I worry for the younger generation!  What senseless taking of precious lives!

Good morning.

I see that there is a new page to start the new week.   I did write a message last evening,  I was late getting in here yesterday, with my account of the family party I went to on Saturday,  so it is on the last page of last week's messages, if anyone is interested.

It is a pretty sunny morning here today, but temperature is only in the 40's.  I did turn the furnace on for a little while.   I need to get dressed so that I can take my rent check and some mail downstairs.

Hope every friend will have a wonderful start to the new week.

Joy

For those of you who are not aware of what Bubble is talking about:

More than 50 dead, 200 injured in mass shooting on Las Vegas Strip

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/oct/01/reports-active-shooters-on-las-vegas-strip/ (https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/oct/01/reports-active-shooters-on-las-vegas-strip/)

Sad.

Good Morning Everyone!

Not really a good morning, is it?

Hi Everyone.  We have a cool morning with a clear sky and low humidity.  Yesterday was truly a delightful one weather-wise with a nice breeze and low humidity.  I ended up going to Sunday School and Church alone yesterday as when Pat went to get ready her back was hurting a lot and she said she was feeling a bit nauseous. I picked up  lunch and brought it home.  Our main activity for today is an appointment with the back surgeon so Pat can get an evaluation of whether surgery would help her back problems or not.

Lloyd, I have never lived where I had to contend with rattlesnakes.  I leave all snakes alone.

Jenny, I caught the end of the Broncos/Raiders game and know you would be happy with the outcome. That is quite and honor for Cathy to ring the closing bell at the stock exchange.  Is this something related to her company doing something new?

Hal, getting a ticket does put a damper on the day.  I have been tp Pikes Peek twice but don't remember anything about the condition at the top other than as with most places there was a gift shop.

Jane, what a blessing to have all four of your children together at the same table and to be included in their activities during the weekend.  Now you can take a couple of days to recoup since you are on vacation.

deAngel, we don't have any channels that show the Carol Burnett or Johnny Carson shows.  I will occasionally watch a YouTube video of Carol Burnett.  I did see a brief news bit showing the three presidents at the golf match.  I  thought the Presidents in the title probably referred to the President of the PGA.  I didn't watch any of this weekend.  I hope the USA team won and see from Mary Ann that they did win.

Joy, that sounds like some party and glad you had a good time and were able to stay warm.

Bubble, thanks for getting us started on the new month and that was the perfect graphic.  I loved the little story you shared.  The logic of a child. The shooting in Las Vegas is apparently the worst massacre of civilians in the nations history at an event like the parade. There are some very sick and deranged people in this world that must hate everyone.

[size=10pt Very sad news from Nevada.  I am so impressed with the quick response of so many people - offering trucks and helping wounded.  A lot of brave people in that crowd.  Such twisted mindset to even plan this tragedy.

Larry, I get Johnny Carson, Carol B, & lots of the old sit-coms & westerns... SO much plus the local stations for news, etc... on my little antennas that cost me nothing after initial expense of buying (2 for either $40 or $60 ...less than one month of cable).  I don't get HGTV and don't get the Hallmark channel... but most cost extra on cable anyway.  No "talk" that drove me nuts & not all the sports (still mre than I like).

I heard the news on the old Sony that I still turn on when I wake up... this morning before 4:00 am.... I'm getting by with 3 hours & 14 min. sleep so far today.  Totally frustrated that the dome over the skylight in the shower has a big saucer size hole in it... from a low hanging tree branch.  I had no idea they were so fragile, have 3 different vents with fans that are okay but not raised as high as the skylight.  WHY would they put a skylight in a shower?  It doesn't give more head room like the skylight in the entrance of the Rialta.  Ah, well, on with the phone calls & frustration.  Got to find some way to patch that hole that will withstand 75 mph winds as I roll down the highway for a reunion in MO this week end.

My problems are nothing compared with those poor people in Vegas.... Wonder what will be discovered about the shooter, some kind of nut, for sure.

Oh, and on a good note, how about those high school football players running out with the big American flags... warms the heart!!!

Thank you, Bubble, for keeping us neat.... love the joke & also enjoyed the other one.  My kind of funnies...

Thanks to all of you for sharing your days, even the bad days brighten mine, sharing misery, you know.

I'm off... and truly am this morning.... hope all of you have a great day with lots of happy thoughts.  Better stay away from radio & TV, that news is awful.   Shirley

Merry Monday, Everyfriend.

Haven't had the t.v. on this morning so don't know anything about the news. Am quite sure I'll hear all about it several times in great detail with interviews and pictures of the worst scenes over and over when I do turn it on.

Hal,   Sons/Spouses were at the TXTech/OSU game.  Son commented it was a typical game between the two...."Last one with the ball wins."

DIL coming for lunch.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Janie, my counter is alive with the sound of music  Went to the Mennonite market and bought another peck of pears and some Crispin apples to can. May put off the apples until tomorrow, this way I shall be able to go sew.

Listening to the news anymore makes me sick, how can one take out so many innocent lives?? Prayers for the families of these people.

Think my canner is calling me......take care everyone..

I just accidentally hit the back key and erased my entire post!   :tickedoff:

When will I learn? Of course,  I feel totally ill!

I could try to rewrite it, but being the over yakkity yaker that I am... it is a bit overwhelming to me right now.  😤😩

I do want to thank you, BUBBLE, for our new SS.  I LOVED THE GRAPHIC AND YOUR STORY!

HAL, I just wanted to say, “I am sorry” for the unfortunate happing yesterday as you tried to hurry when you were late for church.

We have been watching the terrible news out of Vegas.  So sad for all the families that are involved.  One can only try to imagine how the mans family must feel as they try to understand how their loved one could possibly do this to the unsuspecting victims.  😩

We are awaiting the closing hour of the Nasdaq.  We are set up to hopefully watch it live to see our Cathy.  It is quite the honor that she is there.  The heads of the company was to be on several talk shows this morning but was preempted, of course, due to this terrible tragedy. 😩😩

Bubble, thank you for keeping us all together. There are not enough words to express our thankfulness to you. I for one, would be completely lost without all of you....our special family... How I do wish we would hear some news from Kate and Joe as to how our Bis/Joan is progressing.  It has been a long and difficult path for all of them, but what a treasure to have that last picture of her and Finlay.

Now more horror in Las Vegas. A quiet, joyful party, and one mad man goes berserk. No sense in it at all.

Here in my little spot on the map, all is well. I finally did get my grocery order placed, but it was a late to bed for me.  Groceries delivered and put away, but small chores really leave me brainless now. I think I need a "keeeper" to help me wander some of  these "off" days. I'll choose to be thankful for what God does allow me muddle through. He is a great and gracious Godl

For those of you who lose your post try clicking on the "back arrow" if you use Firefox.  I have hit the wrong thing or whatever and lose my post, but I find that in many cases you screen has advanced on space.  I don't know if this will work with IE.

Callie, I am ashamed to admit I don't even know what the score was in the OSU/TT game.

Well the big one is coming up.  The Texas state fair opened in Big D and OU/Texas will have their Red River shoot out.  I am sure we are on.

June I am like you.  Wish we would hear something from Joanie or her family.  Miss that lady.

Hal, Our Bis is a very special lady. I feel she really loved us all, and enjoyed giving us happy thoughts. Some illnesses are very cruel, and they strike some of the finest people. And so we learn from them Hal. When I think of the Love that has passed through these pages, and how we have been strengthened through our associations. And now Bubble has stepped in to fill a gap. Thanks be to God. I am very confident that with a bit more time our Bis will return, and we will rejoice.

I hope your back is giving you the peace and pain freedom it was meant to do.

AMY I have some questions for you.#1 what part of the world do you live in?
#2 is your phone long distance to USA?we have free long distance in USA. If we do to you and you  are willing to give us your phone # wewould call and visit with you (phone or skype) #3 do you have skype? hope you do and you are willing to talk to us on it like peter and i do. I am getting Nancy interested in using the computer. she is a very nerviess person. afraid she will mess it up I keep telling her she can't do any thing to it that can't be fixed. have a great day.

I talked with Nancy about quilts but she thinks all old quilts along with the bedspreads I made got burnt up when the old house burned. as you may know Nancy and I were devourced for a few years and then got back together.
we both have mellowed some what. oh yes I am a jack of all trades Master of none. when I drove a truck over the road, I first knitted, but the retainers kept cumming off the needles, so a learned how to crochet.could tis a knot in it and not loose stitches and wind up with holes in work piece.

Good morning everyone.

Another cool morning here  temp is 30° at the moment. Will get apple pie filling canned today if all goes well. Have to take hubby in for blood work first and VON will be here later today.
Gloria, I bought Mutsu/Crispin apples to use  for pie filling. Hope it turns out alright.

Jane, enjoy each day of your vacation!!

Lloyd, good morning and yes I am long distance here in Canada. I don't have Skype sorry. I was sad to read that all of Nancy quilts were lost in the fire, all that hard work gone. Tell Nancy I was a nervous as a cat with a long tail in a room full of rocking chairs when I first  got a computer. Tell her she can do it and we would all love to hear from her.

Enjoy your day everyone..

will ck and see.  also we do not have passports Now required to come there.i several years ago when not required hauled horses with a friend to grinvill Canada . you are tougher than I. I did not like your 40º /50º below 0º . If we go ahead and sell our place retaining life rights to G D and hubby, we could get a passport and come see you in summer time. sure not in winter had all that when we were hauling horses up there. S I L has kin up there some place. maybe we could come up there and crash you all,and go fishing up there as our cousin did. they never knew you so they just went fishing.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I got up earlier with the doggies, let them out and then gave them the pills we have to wait for.  Since I didn't sleep well and I still have a little residual tiredness from my busy weekend, I slept out the hour of wait time.

LLOYD, tell Nancy that if the rest of us can do the computer thing, she can, too.  When it frustrates me, I yell at it.  It doesn't help but it relieves me.  I also threaten it with being thrown on the trash heap if it doesn't cooperate.  That doesn't help either....or maybe it does!

I'm not sure what I'm going to get into today.  AMY is making me hungry with her apples.  I might go see what the orchard stand has for sale and get started on some applesauce.  I think I might have 4 small jars left but I use it for "thank you offereings" for my daughter when she picks up things for me and won't let me pay for them.  Tuesday is Senior Citizen day at this stand and I qualify for the 10% discount so it's a good day to go.  I like a combination of Jonathon and MacIntosh apples for applesauce.

Take today and make it yours!

Good morning,  Jane, Amy and Lloyd.   You are all such loyal posters every morning.

It is a pretty sunny morning, but still a little chilly.  Supposed to go up to the mid- 70's today.

Yesterday, I went down about 9:30 to put some mail out and just peeped out the door to see what the temperature felt like.  I was so surprised that it felt so warm that I went out front and wound up sitting out for almost 2 hours.  It was just such a beautiful morning and the sun was actually "hot".   I was waiting for the mailman as I was expecting a package, but after sitting there so long, I was getting tired of sitting that I came back in and didn't go back down until later in the day.

I did watch a lot of the news from Las Vegas.  It is just so heartbreaking to watch that horrible tragedy. I just don't know where this world is coming to.

I need to get some breakfast and then see what the day will bring.

Have a great Tuesday.

Joy

Hi Everyone. We are in for another beautiful day with the high around 80 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday Pat saw the surgeon and he told her surgery would not solve her back problems.  I think she was relieved as now doesn't have to make that decision.  Unfortunately, she will have to live with the back pain treating it with medication.  After her appointment we went to Walmart to pick her prescriptions for her.  Then we stopped at the Dairy Queen and had a good and filling lunch/dinner.  It was 3 pm before we got home.

The only think on my calendar for today is a routine appointment with my cardiologist.  I have two doctor appointment on Thursday and had them mixed up in my mind thinking the two were today and the one I have today on Thursday.

Carol, there are so many good people in the world that will help their fellow citizens in times of need. I wonder if the motives for the Las Vegas killings will ever be known.

Shirley, if it were only me I would certainly cut way back or eliminate the satellite TV.  However, Pat spends many hours with the programs on and so we keep paying the high bills each month.  You are not getting much sleep.  I got 9 hours of sleep last night and am still wiped out as the last few days have been busy it seems and tiring. A skylight over a shower certainly isn't a good idea today with all the drones that are now being used.

Callie, both NBC and CBS had extended newscasts last evening devoted to the Las Vegas situation.

Amy, hope you got to sew yesterday and got the pears worked up.  Wow, a talking canner.  :)

Jenny, the shooters family are also victims of his actions as their lives were changed instantly.

Gloria, I had a similar problem with a mouse and discovered it was the mouse as when I replaced it the problem went away.

Hal and Lloyd, you give good advice on trying to recover something lost in posting.  You can also right click the mouse and see if the undo function is available if the posting was highlighted and thus erased.  However, that doesn't seem to always work.

June, your post #21 expressed so well what these discussions and our cyber family relationships have met over these many years.  Glad you got your grocery order finished.

Lloyd, Nancy's concern of messing up the computer is certainly a common one among older folks as they begin to use it.  I was involved with the SeniorNet Learning Center in our previous county for several years as the seniors in the class expressed that concern over and over.

Joy, glad you were able to sit outside for awhile.  I could have done that yesterday afternoon as it was so nice here but opted for laying down and resting.

Jane, your computer doesn't care if you yell at it and it probably helps relieve your frustrations.  I expect all of us have those feeling on occasion.

JaneS she says she would want it when i do and that would not be good. she is a penny puncher so when I said we could buy another one she said O NO. I told her ok after we get going  one of us can use the one hooked up to T V with H D M I. we have one laptop hooked up to the T V and get good movies on you tube
or type in a title.that gets movies up about one year or so old. we also use it to play cards like free cell. we coach other, sometimes her and sometimes I have the mouse. we have wireless mouse and keyboard for it. works pretty good except no exercise getting up and down. not too bad.

LLOYD, that sounds like a plan to me.

LARRY, I'm pretty sure the yelling relieves something inside me!  And it isn't really yelling.  It's things like, "OK, just sit there doing nothing and see if I care."  or "If you don't wanna work, neither do I."  Once in a while I growl a little.

Good Morning Everyone!

Here it is, a brand new day for us to use anyway we desire.  Hopefully I put it to good use.

Well I finally got my cataract surgery all scheduled, although, not to my liking.  My first one is on the 29th of December and the second one is on the 22 January.  And I wont even go into the followup dates.

They emailed my meds in to pharmacy that I will need after the surgery and my wife picked them up and also got her flu shot and then walked off and left the meds.  Fortunately they found them so I will pick them up this morning and get my flu shot.  More to this story, since wife made a trip to store and they couldn't find them.
It was panic time since they are pretty expensive and insurance wont pay twice.

Suppose to rain here this afternoon and tomorrow, so I am going to move trash can to front so it will be ready for pickup tomorrow morning.  Didn't put it out last week and it is smelling pretty strong.

Larry, as you know there is many ways to do many functions on computers and break one isn't one of them.  You may freeze it or mess up a function but you aint gonna break it and if you do it enough you learn how not to mess things up.   ;)

But strangely the older I get the less interested I am in getting involved in the operation of the thing.  I think that facetime and other "social" boards has caused part of that.  Used to the family would send out emails with family goings on and lots of pictures of the family, now we get zip.  I used to save all the pictures and make little video's of them (Jackwv taught me a lot).  I haven't made a video is years, it seems, and not sure I could anymore.

Well hope everyone has a great day.

P.S.  Amy and others, would love to visit on Skype
only way will ever get to meet face to face.

I have a call into the patients advocate at my doctor's office.  They are dropping my insurance company as it has been bought out by another larger one.  A larger one that will not cover me unless I enroll - but here is the sticker. It is only in this area and I wouldn't be insured in, for instance, Tucson.

Don is working on this --- hooray, he is the only one who understands this and he could advise some politicians but they ignored his warnings of going into default.

Bubble:  Truly, a beautiful picture.  Thank you so very much our cyber pal!!!

Good Afternoon,

I've caught up with the tragic news from and about Vegas.  Local stations met incoming planes at the airport and interviewed Oklahomans returning from there. Also, the OKC mayor was there for a conference.  However, his hotel wasn't near the Mandolay so he wasn't affected (and didn't know about it until he turned on the tv) - other than that the conference was cancelled.

A carton on the Op-Ed page this morning showed a very sad "Uncle Sam" dragging a trail of papers with headlines listing the number of massacres in recent months.
This is way over the "very serious" limit.

Hal,  I suggest we put our OK/TX bet on hold until your health issues have been seen to.   Prayers and good wishes for better days ahead.

Hard to believe it's October and we're still wearing summer clothes.  Haven't even turned on the heat in the mornings, yet.

I'm being useful today...................by staying out of the way of the housecleaner.  Here she comes; time to switch locations.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day and Feeling Gooood.

Good evening, just finished Supper. Sun is starting to go down, and I started this before 2, just kept getting interruptions.

Joy glad to read you had such a nice time with your family.

Jane, I think you were what I call happy tired

Bubble, thanks so much for our new page.  I like the graphic and joke.

Gloria, I hope you are able to get back soon.  I look foreward to your daily post.

Lloyd, my husband was afraid he would do something to mess up the computer. He like to play the casino games always had me turn it on and off.

June, always glad to see your post, and you know how to use word beautifully. You make everyone feel good.
Larry, maybe it was just me, but it was a thrill to see the 3 presidents
laughing and talking to each other and the visiting with the players and some of the crowd.

Hal. I hope everything get settled with you.I know how we get days we are not happy with.

I'm here..had a good day I think, I can't remember what I did, but here goes.....Woke up at six, had the first meds and the patch. Did my massage and arm and leg exercises. A lapse here...I know I did NOT do my daily reads and prayers. God must be frowning on me for sure. I did get the body dressed and down for our monthly residents meeting. It went very well, so I stayed down for an early lunch. Ate outside...delicious bacon/hamburger, salad, waffle fries. Good company. Our new Pastor sat with three of us. He is so open and warm and human...as was our last Pastor. Arrived home about 1p.m.. opened book, closed eyes and came back to life around three p.m., so went downstairs for coffee and book outside on glider...getting legs exercised...then home by 4:30 to do some pedicure work on toenails......are you bored yet ??.....Now I will have left over lunch, and I am "in" for the rest of the day.

Hal, I do hope those expensive meds turn up. I did my husbands eyes after his surgery so when the time came of "widow-hood" I managed to do my own medications. My dear doctor said if I used too much medicine accidently not to worry about it, so I managed fine. Even drove myself home after surgery...very carefully, and very thankful when I pulled safely into my own driveway. God is so kind the way He takes care of us.

Now he is telling me to go feed myself and get ready for bed and book. Unless I think of something else I need to share...it is hard for me to say Goodnight.

I went for zpples todzy znd the roadside stznd is closed for the season.  Their mzin store is open yezr round but it's about 20 miles away out in the country at an area with which I'm not familiar.  So I went to another farm store and I got the one kind of apples that I like for applesauce but I like to mix them and they didn't have the other kind.  So I'm going to the Farmers Market tomorrow to see if I can get the ones I like to mix.

I did get a crook neck pumpkin for pies....one for me and one for Cindy.  Cindy's is all packed up and ready to take a trip to Texas.  Seems they don't grow the kind we like for pies in Texas and I've sent her pumpkins every year since she moved there.  We drove all over in the years that I spend in Texas looking for pumpkins and no one has them.  At least, we never found them.

Now I'm off to bed.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

June, no doubt about it: you have a little Angel blood in you.  Thank goodness we get to share you.

Oh, I (the pharmacy) found the meds and while I was there I got my flu shot.

Janie, see your "a" key came up missing for a short while, but the "Z" filled in very well.  ;)

Nite everyone, God Bless and Sweet Dreams.

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold morning in central PA....way down in the high 30s overnight.  I'm not looking forward to freezing temps.

HAL (and everyone else who notices) My A key is perfect.  It's a problem with my little finger.  Something is drawing it in towards my palm and if I'm not careful, I type a Z instead of an a.  I wasn't being vigilant last night.  If I'm not czreful, everything comes out with zs.  I'm going to hzve to have it fixed but it doesn't hurt and I'm putting it off until after Christmas.  Too much to do not to have the use of one hand.

Come to think of it, the zzzzs hzve been in short supply on the sofa lztely.  Maybe this is where they've gone!

We're currently waiting out the doggies pill and as soon as they are fed and I'm dressed, I'll be off to look for apples.  Then home to begin cooking for applesauce.

I hope you all have a great day.  Just visiting the Farmers Market will make my day!

Good morning. Pretty sunny day out today.

I will be without any electric from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. today.  The power company is doing work in our area, so we received a notice about the electricity being off for that time period.  Tomorrow they will be flushing the fire hydrants, so we will have the water turned off for most of the day.  So glad this only happens once a year.  I have to remember to have some buckets of water ready to be able to flush the commode.  I have a walk-in shower, so no bathtub to fill up.  I will survive, I am sure.

I have had my coffee and checked my e-mail and have my Kindle all charged up, so I will spend most of that time reading.  I won't be able to go outside as the elevator won't be working.  Hopefully, it won't be off as long as they are predicting and I will be able to go out to enjoy some sunshine a little later.

Jane, hope you find lots of goodies at the Farmer's Market.  And, Amy, hope you succeed in "playing catchup".   You sure can finish up a quilt fast.  I still have a lot of unfinished tops that I can't seem to get back to.

Hope you and all the other friends will have a wonderful day.

Joy

Hi Everyone.  It is another nice and beautiful day here in South Carolina and it isn't suppose to get out of the low 80's this afternoon. I had a long morning at the doctor's office as my appointment was for 10:30 but it was noon before the doctor made it into the room.  She apparently had an emergency that required here presence in the cath lab.  I don't mind the wait as I realize that someday it might be me who needed her immediate attention.  With my iPhone I something to keep me occupied.  When she got to me she spent probably half and hour with me. After my last appointment with her she had ordered an overnight oximeter test and it showned my oxygen level at night had gone down to 69.  So she is contacting my lung doctor and wants me to start using oxygen with my CPAP machine.  She also wants me to suspend using the Renexa medication to see if it could be part of the problem why I am so weary and have shortness of breath when I do anything.

Today will be a day of stay home and take it easy to try to recover from the last three days that were pretty busy, at least for me.  We do have dinner at the church this evening and then Scott and Jennifer will likely come out for a couple of hours.  Pat will go to the Church this morning for her crafts group.  Their bazaar is coming up later this morning so they are meeting every week until that is over.

Lloyd, we all would have been healthier if they had never invented the remote control. I have never hooked my computer up to the TV as don't mind watching the videos on my computer or even my iPhone using headphones.

Hal, I will see my eye doctor next week so maybe after that will have a better idea of when I will have my cataracts removed.  I am ready to have them removed. I hope I can get mine scheduled before the end of the year. I plan on getting my flu shot tomorrow after my 9 am medical appointment if I have enough time before picking up Pat and going to another medical appointment. Unfortunately we have to keep our trash cans in our garages in this neighborhood.  I do have a good sized airtight container next to the trash can where I can put any scraps that will likely become smelly.  That good old reboot or turn off and restart ability on the computer fixes a lot of problems.  Often the problem may have nothing much to do with what we have done as programs can get a bit mixed up.

Carol, that sounds like a terrible situation with your health insurance.  Medical costs are way to high not to have health insurance so hope you can find insurance that covers you both places.

Callie, there really isn't a way to keep an individual from harming others if they decide to do so.  If not guns they can use other things as weapons.  You sound like me in staying out of the way of the housekeeper.  I stay in my office until she is ready to clean it and then vacate to another part of the house.  She usually starts with the master bedroom so after I eat lunch I will often go to lay down for the afternoon even before she leaves.  Sometimes Pat and I will leave to have lunch while she is still here. She is very trustworthy and locks up the house when she leaves if we aren't here.

deAngel, I never could get either of my folks interested in the computer.  I agree with you in that we may disagree on ideas but we sure don't have to be disagreeable to other people.  Life for most of us is a lot more than politics.

June, I bet God didn't mind you missing one day of your daily reads and prayers. It sounds like you had a pretty full and enjoyable day.

Jane, I hope you can find the apples you want today.  Texas climate must not be right for pumpkins.  As I type I often duplicate a letter.  Guess my hands must shake a little bit.

Amy, nothing wrong with sleeping in on occasion.  I slept late this morning and then after my shower I needed to lay down and rest again for several minutes so it was much later than usual when I had breakfast.

Joy, the utility work is being done all at once.  At least it will soon be over.

Good Morning Everyone!
Well the rain return late yesterday afternoon and we got a couple of brief showers an then stopped until this morning and it has been raining ever since I got up.  Wife had an early dentist apmt 8 AM and she just got bsck.  I baked some breakfast rolls, pumpkin and the looked great but not alot of pumpkin flavor.  They changed packaging and it is a mess to get into the rolls and the rolls themselves didn't come apart very easily.  Oh well finally got them apart and baked.

Amy how do you catch up on doing nothing.  That seems to be my problem any more.

We have a cold front on the way but don't know when it will get here and this time of year they don't have much affect for very long.

Janie, I was just rattlin your chain, wasn't making fun, sorry if I offended.  I didn't intend to.  I get my fingers on the wrong keys sometimes and you should see the mess I make.

I had plans to get car inspected and new registration but the rain changed that, unless it clears up this afternoon.  I need to go down and pick up some meds and that is about it.

Everyone have a great day.

By gosh, howdy, folks!  Had quite a start when I clicked to come here.... took me to a MAY post.  Not sure how it happened but had Joan's avatar smiling at me & took my brain a few seconds to realize "something's wrong~~"

Been raining off & on all night/day, we need it but not exactly at this moment.  I am working on the RV to be ready for a trip to MO, have 2 in the works for Oct & don't want to miss either.  Think (not sure) I mentioned finding a football size piece of the dome over the shower missing.  So far haven't found a trace of water inside but very likely it is running into the "head lining" like it did with the Rialta when that dome had a tiny crack.  Bought a replacement from the place I bought the RV, wrong size/type.  Took it back next day & a very nice man at the desk offered to make it "leak proof" for the trip (new part has to be ordered).  Just now when I was taking some of the clean linens out, I noticed the patch he put on (inside & out).... was laying on the top of the skylight NOT stuck to the inside of the dome.  I'll have to climb the ladder again to see if the outside (he promised it wouldn't leak).... looks like it can take the 75+mph wind driving across Kansas.  Top that with weather can't decide to be hot or cold, rain or shine & y'all know what I mean about taking clothes for every type weather to be comfy!

My little redhead gr-grand broke her arm yesterday.... both bones.  just running at day care, happy.  Grandad (my son) says they have to wait a week for the swelling to go down, bones are clean break & cast will give her more freedom to play.  She isn't crying & doctor says the cast with have "sparkles" and everyone can sign.     All the gr-parents may need R & R to get over the calamity.

I love rainy weather, great for sleeping, but so many jobs to do I'm seriously thinking of catching some zzzzzzzzzzzs first.  Oh, got to
tell you about "my" fish down in the river.  Been feeding them off & on again lately & was so tickled when son went down with me a couple days ago & showed total surprise at how many big catfish that came when I whistled.  BIG ones, heads bigger than my fist.  They came right to the bank & flipped & splashed to catch the bread.  They hang close if I whistle now & then and talk to them.  The cats watch as they splash, don't think they realize what they are.

Jane, I broke down & bought a big apple pie at Sam's Club a few days ago.  Then I had to buy ice cream to go on it.  Not sure what kind of apples they use but I always bought golden delicious, didn't take as much sugar to sweeten like I like.... and they are soft when baked.  Somewhere I read that Mussleman's applesauce is made with golden & think it may be true, only applesauce I eat.  I am not a born cook like you & Gloria & all others in here.  My mother had applesauce on the table all the time, or a big bowl of prunes.  Had some kind of fruit every day, as well as plenty of veggies, meat ... Mom was a big fan of Adelle Davis "You Are What You Eat"... plus my father's mother grew all their veggies, including celery, okra, kale, grapes, etc.  They even ate dandelion greens along with the spinach & endive she grew.  Talk about growing up with the best foods available, in spite of war years....  I am totally running the wrong direction these years! It really isn't fun to cook for one............ such is life.

Got to get busy, hope every friend finds something to smile about today.  God Bless!   Shirley

Ah, Don..... brought tears to my eyes.  Always reminds me when I spent about 3 years "overseas", back in the day when we didn't call home .... and my brother & sister-in-law were on the dock to meet us in New York.  Took a long time to get off that troop ship & I had tears streaming down my face the whole time.  During WWII when my brothers were in the service it was a rule to not tell about any family death when they were away, but "call home" before coming, so no shocks.  I really feared my brother was there to tell me bad news.  Was not why, they had planned to pick us up and drive back to Missouri in time to have Easter all together.  Still get tears thinking what a fantastic family that made it happen.  God Bless America & thanks so much for the link.     :tissue: :tissue: :tissue:

My plan for the day is to finish the applesauce and get it canned, make a quick trip to the store and pick up TLH after school.  Right now we're waiting out the doggies pills and the coffee pot just stopped so I'm going to go get some and then get dressed so I can get started on the rest of the apples.  I should have a cannerful of applesauce in pints when I'm finished.  Anybody ready for coffee?

Good Morning Everyone!

Yep Janie, I will have a cup of your coffee while I wait for mine to finish.

I have men's breakfast and bible study this morning and I forgot to plug in my IPad last night but it is half charged and I will charge it for an hour so it should be good to go for this morning.

We got rain yesterday but don't know what is predicted for today since I was asleep when the weather came on last night.  I wish I could quit waking up at 4 AM so I wasn't so sleepy at 9.  I stay in bed but sleep just will not return.

My wife and I went out for supper last night, Cracker Barrel, and had a decent meal.  But it is such a mess to go out any more early evening, so much traffic.  I just cant believe the Farm to Market highway that runs in front of our area out here.  It used to be a little two lane road now it is five lanes and packed bumper to bumper morning and evening rush hour.  I can believe we are now the nations 10th largest city.  And our prices are moving right up there to.....shhhheeeesh.

Anyhow enough griping, Janie will throw me out.  Everyone have a great day.

Good morning.  Another beautiful day starting.  I can hardly believe we are still having such nice weather going into October.   Supposed to be like this through the week end, maybe with a few showers coming the first of the week from that new tropical storm down in the Gulf.  We really do need the rain.

Well, our power outage did not happen yesterday.  No answers why!!!  I did not chance using the elevator all day in the event that the power went off before I got back.  But, it turned out to be an uneventful day with really nothing getting accomplished.

There was a number to call on the notice that had been sent around to see if the outage was cancelled and when it was to be rescheduled. I called that number this morning and nothing has been rescheduled.

And, then our water was supposed to be turned off late yesterday and remain off all day today and, so far, we still have water.   I honestly don't think the right hand knows what the left hand is doing anymore. lol

So, I will just get on with the day and see what happens.

Jane, sounds like this will be another busy day for you with finishing up the applesauce and then getting to spend time with your little grand daughter.  I know you are looking forward to seeing her.   Aren't you supposed to be on vacation???   I know you enjoy what you are doing, though.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

It is not even 11 a.m. here in Ca. and leaning toward afternoon already on the East Coast. And I see I did not get in to say good night yesterday. Woe is me.

So to back up a bit....I went down for our morning Bible class, only to find that our new Pastor had preferred we do a memorial service for the tragedy in Las Vegas. It was very well done, and he inviited all who wanted to add a prayer to do so. He carried a portable mike and there were about a dozen others that had a prayer to share. I found it gave me a day of quiet at home.

Some time later in the day I found my Cell phone was absent...AWOL...so I had to go out and cover the areas I had been in case I left it on a bench or chair or.....someplace. Unfortunately it was missing. So I notified the main desk, the clinic, where I had visited and searched the apartment...no luck. I called my son and he said not to worry about it..give it a few days to turn up, and if it didn't he would cancel it and get me a new one.

So my day was a bit disturbing. I woke at three a.m. with a message on my brain...."go to your closet and look in the pocket of your warm robe". I did, and there was the cell phone. I had taken an early shower, and since it was cool I grabbed the warm robe, and of course the phone went in the pocket...as natural as breathing, right ?

Now my eyes are wanting to close, but I have a choir program to participate in at 1:30 so the body won't relax into a nice nap, knowing a nap may turn into a deep sleep.

Hopefully a quiet weekend will happen so I will get some letter writing done. I hope you are all having a happy, relaxing day, with Good Health being my main wish for you .

Applesauce is finished!  There are 8 pints and 7 half pints sitting on my kitchen counters.  Everything is cleaned up and put away and I'm basking in my accomplishment!  I still have enough apples to make an apple crisp for me and one for Cathy and Craig to thank them for everything they do for me!

I'm going to get myself cleaned up and make a quick trip to the Amish store and back in time to pick up Kiran after her outdoor exercise.  Gotta run!  Well, I'm not really going to run but I will try to walk fast!

Gloria de, what a great shot of you girl friend !! You look so relaxed and lovely, I'm so glad you had that time out , and what an interesting coastline! Were those rocks formed by the sea, or were they brought it in to protect the coastline. Your part of the U.S. is so different from the places I have lived.

JeanneLee, thank you for posting my picture.  that was my happy day at the INlet that I wrote about. I wish we had got a picture of the ocean rolling in also.

June, I am sure the rocks were brought in to protect the inlet, which if a North east wind can be very dangerous to day it was calm. You read in the paper all summer, the coast guard rescuing  boaters.

Enjoyed my Red Hat luncheon, but very tired, even fell asleep watching my soap opera GH

Gloria de,  What a great picture and I see where it was taken on the day your friend took you to the inlet.  Looks like it was a lovely day.   I am so happy that you got to spend the day at that beautiful place.

Thanks, Jeanne Lee for posting it for Gloria.

I'm home and in for the evening and what a nice face to come back to!  Gloria De, I can see your joy in that day all ovr you.  You look so happy and relaxed!

I'm in for the night and I'm "plumb wore out" as my grandmother used to say.  I'm all in but my shoe strings and if I had any shoe strings, I suspect they'd be in, too.

I am with you Jane on that.......going to just put my feet up and relax now.  I managed to get all the pine needles raked up and put away. Did a bit of sewing too so that makes a perfect day for me.

Gloria de ,loved the photo and could feel the breeze off the ocean. You must have had such a wonderful day at the beach!!!

Tomorrow is hubby's birthday and it is also the first day of looking after the neighbours dog and cat for them. I have a sneaky feeling that Rex will be over here with the girls for a while.  :smitten:

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Amy if you or a neighbor have bees, you can gather up the pine needles to use
in your smoker when you are working them. they produce smoke that will make them go down in the hive but is not too harsh. just thought i would throw that point in.

Well what a nice, no. a great. surprise to find a post from Joanie.  We miss you and anxious to see you back on here on a regular basis. Just keep working with your rehab folks and get back soon.'

Well along with the good comes the bad.  We got a call from an old friend in Del Rio tonight and another good friend was found dead in his home.  His wife is in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer and he had not been to see her for three days and he was faithful in visiting her morning and evening everyday.  They called this friend (the nursing home) to advise her of this and she got hold of the police who went to the home and found him.  Sad and depressing.  But God knows best.  God bless them both.

We didn't have but three of us for our bible study this morning but we had an excellent study and discussion.
One verse reminded me of "us":

50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

I am curious how you interpret this verse.  I will give you my view after reading some of yours.

I am off to bed.  God Bless each of you,  Sweet Dreams and good night.

And God bless and comfort Diane and RIP Bill.

So happy to see that Our Joan popped in to say hello to us.  You are certainly missed! JOAN, and we look forward to the day you can return on a regular basis.

CAROL, the same thing happened to me when I was a patient of Dr. Baker’s.  I sure miss not going to her for my care! But we travel too much also, so their preferred plan just would not work for me.

Son Mark met my Dad for breakfast this morning before he drove out of Phoenix for his new home in California.  Mark FaceTimed me and I got to see and talk to my dad.  Love these iPhone so much at times.

I have had a bit of a slight cold the past couple of days...I hope to be rid of it soon.

Loved seeing your picture GLORIA de.  Thank you Jeanne Lee for posting it for us to see.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Good morning everyone, I have something new, the PT that has been coming here ordered me a belt with pads that run with a TENS and pulsate on the spots on my back that bother me. Tried it yesterday and it did feel good. Now to get to do it by myself and get the pads in the right spots. I think my biggest problen is all the velcro, have trouble pulling the straps apart.

AMY  we got into the mid 80's here yesterday. Glad my AC is still set up because I had it running again.

GLORIA de  been many years since I had roast duck. I used to roast them and we all enjoyed them.

JUNE  only one time I could not find my cellphone. I called it and could hear it is the broom closet.  Found it on the floor. I hang my winter jacket there in cold weather and it fell out of the pocket.

JANE  nothing better than home made applesauce.

JEANNE LEE  thanks for the link.

GLORIA de  wonderful photo. Beautiful day to be at the ocean and enjoy it. The Atlantic is deadly in an Nor'easter. On TV they keep telling people here to stay off the ledges and rocks along the shore but there are always some who think they know better and will be swept off into the water. Then those who rescue them are in danger of loosing their lives. Even on a calm day some of those waves come way up.

AMY  Happy Birthday to your husband.

JOAN  Wonderful to see you show up. You are so missed by all of us. Prayers and hugs, hope each day you feel stronger.

Hi Everyone.  It is another clear and beautiful day but no rain in sight.  The housekeeper has arrived. I don't think we will go out to eat as we often do on the day she comes since we ate out yesterday.  I plan a quiet and very laid back day today as only got about 4-5 hours of sleep last night.  I was really tired after a very busy day but just couldn't go to sleep even though I wasn't in any pain.

Yesterday was one of those days that I don't want to repeat, at least not very often.  It got started when I came to my office and found my computer monitor had a blank screen.  I had to reboot it several times and it seemed that many things had changed.  I had a doctor's appointment at 9 am with my new GP.  It was just to get established and I liked him and his office is in North Augusta rather than about 30 minutes away.  I got right in and out so decided to stop at Publix for my flu shot as they were offering a $10 gift card when you got your flu shot there.  I had another appointment at 11:15 with my foot doctor and so came home and picked up Pat so she could drive home after the procedure.  I was in an out of the Podiatrists office in about 30 minutes.  He removed both of my big toe nails.  I couldn't believe it was so quick and painless.  My instructions were to come home and put my feet up as much as possible for the rest of the day.  He gave me a couple of prescriptions and so on the way we stopped at Diablo's Tex-Mex Restaurant and had our big meal of the day and then went on to Walmart and Pat went in and got the prescriptions.  I came home and laid down for a while.

When I got up yesterday afternoon I went to use my Chromebook computer only to find I had apparently in getting the desktop working yesterday morning messed up the Chrome browser settings.  It took me about 4 hours trying to get everything back the way I wanted them but finally succeeded.  I did come back in my office and make the airline reservations for Pat's sister to come and visit with us later this month.  Then last evening she called Pat to tell her she had been broadsided in her car and thought she might have a broken ankle.  However, later she called to say it wasn't broken but just a bad sprain.  We haven't heard from her today but sure she must be pretty sore.  Fortunately she wasn't at fault and her nephew was able to drive her car away from the accident.  I purchased trip cancellation insurance with the plane ticket so if she isn't able to make the trip I hopefully can get my money back on the tickets.  My SIL insisted last evening she still plans to make the trip.

Joan, what a treat to see your posting.  Glad you were able to get back on line.

Amy, happy birthday for your husband. Hope you have a delicious meal out today.

Since I have been so wordy in my posting about I am going to pass on other comments today.

Good afternoon, I this beautiful warm day.

First off Joan, what a nice  happy surprise to see your post. As everyone has written you are so missed.

amy, Happy birthday to your hubby, both of you enjoy your dinner.

Gloria, it has been a few years since I have had a good roast duck dinner and this one was good.  Long Island duck use to be so famous ,but now I think there is only one duck farm left.  The people came out from the city, and would complain about them, when they built next door to a duck farm.

Well I did it to day, I went to Homemakers for the first time, had a great time, seeing all my old friends after the summer off. Came home, and saw the outside cat was hungry so took him some food, after that I do not know what happen, but I was laying on the deck, I came down hard on my left knee and side. Right now as I set here and write, I feel things hurting more.  I was lucky my nephew was here, to get me up.

 :cheer:  There's Joan!    :hello:, Joan!!!!

Up until now, this has been a discombobulated day!

First of all,  I woke up for the "usual reason" about 4:30 a.m. and could not go back to sleep. Sorta cat-napped in the recliner until 6:00, tried to go back to bed, gave up and got up to stay at 7:00.

Stumbled around trying to get out the door to do errands by 10:00 and had a business call that slowed me down until 10:30.

Errands were all around town and #1 son was coming for lunch at 12:30.   Got home at 12:00 and alternated bringing in groceries and putting left-overs in the oven to heat.

Son arrived a bit early and so did the business caller, who was supposed to come at 12:45 p.m.

Finally got son fed, business taken care of and both of them out the door shortly before 2:00.  Then, of course, I had to clean up lunch things and put away the groceries.

I'm going to be a Recliner Radish for the rest of the afternoon....probably with some :sleepy:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

A Good Friday HELLO to all.

We are at Son Brian’s home.....Bob is helping him hang a few things.  Yesterday he came to our home to help Bob with a couple of projects.....it sure is nice to have him here.

Good to see your post, JOAN.  Things are starting to feel pretty good around here with you checking in.

Oh goodness, GLORIA de.  I am sorry to read about your fall, but sure happy your nephew was there to pick you up.  I really did enjoy your seashore photo.

LARRY, sorry to read about your computer mishaps, but happy that you got them all back up and running.  Having both big toe toenails removed gave me a painfull thought, but it sounds like so far you are doing well.

GLORIA, good to read that you enjoyed the new belt that connects to the TENS machine, however I can understand that getting it secured around you is not an easy task.  My Boston Son took the boys on a train ride to pick apples and pears somewhere and they really had a good time.  It is a family farm that has been in business for many, many years.  Made me think about your son and you when the years were good and he had apples to pick😪

MARK arrived safely at his new home yesterday afternoon and I just got a text saying his lady and the kitty arrived there safely this afternoon.  Now they can get settled in to their new California life.

CALLIE, sounds like your house was a bit hectic with a quick lunch with your son and the business caller both there.  I hope you can have a peaceful afternoon.  I suppose you have been watching the news from Leadville about the welcome sign coming down?  We are all pretty sad this happened, but guess you ca; not stand in the way of progress!

Grand doggie Oliver and I am going to go out in the yard and enjoy some rays.......enjoy the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND!

Gloria de, I am so sorry to hear of your fall.  We nonagenarians have to be extra careful with our footsteps.  I nearly fell by the mailbox today and I don't know what I would have done.  I hope you don't have too many bruises, aches and pains.

Callie, I've had early mornings like you had where I haven't been able to get back to sleep.  It is nothing unusual for me to be on the computer at 4 am or 5 am.  I often go back to bed and sometimes can go back to sleep, but not always.

Mary Ann

Jenny,  actually, I asked the business person to come while son was here so he could be in on the conversation.  Would have preferred to have had the groceries put away and lunch more organized....but it was o.k.  Business person politely declined eating.

Yes, I have seen the Facebook pix and video about the "Leadville Wall" welcome sign coming down.  But I've never seen the reason for doing so.
Not sure everyone considers this "progress".    Have also read various posts complaining about "outsiders" buying up houses for vacation homes and making it difficult for locals to afford to buy one.  Things have certainly changed there - and I'm glad I'm not there to experience it.

Mary Ann,  if I hadn't been determined to get out and do my errands, I could have slept until time to fix lunch.  Have been sleepy all day but not particularly tired.   We're supposed to get thunderstorms between midnight and 4:00 a.m.  I'll bet I sleep right through them.

Gloria de,  I'm so sorry that the good time with your friends ended with a fall.  Hope you're feeling better.

Gloria RI,  love the picture of you on the beach.  I think I've told about driving over to Rehoboth Beach when we were in D.C. Spring Break of 1976 so our sons could see the Atlantic Ocean.  Wish I'd known more about the history; we would have done some sight-seeing.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have Pleasant Dreams.

I am late coming in today. I will try to catch up….Hal, I am puzzling over how  to make salt "salty" again. I wonder, was saltiness a terminology  used in Christian behavior ? Like Pride or jealousy or greed will change a Christian behavior. so we must be aware that we can fail, lose our "saltiness" , by failing to be honest in our Christian behavior. But if another Christian recognizes our failing he can help us by kindly showing us our failure, so we can become "salty" again….flavorful, believable, kind, etc. What say you, Hal ?

Bis…another nice message from you ! I'm sure Jeanne Lee will take care of the password for you. I LOVE you dear lady.

Gloria, I had done the same as you in the past..dialed my cell phone.  Sadly to say, I did not copy down my cell phone number. Now I have it copied loud and clear.

Gloria de. I pray your fall did not cause any prolonged pain or problem for you. At our age a fall can cause  a lot of serious things to happen. May God be with you and keeping you safe.

Larry, my Gary had to have a large toenail removed too, and said it caused no pain. I could not have it done if needed, as any minor injury takes forever for healing to occur due to the artery disease. I hope you heal quickly and safely.

I went down for lunch with friends today, then back down at two p.m. to enjoy the "Singing Good Timers". It is a group of people our age that come here frequently and entertain us with our style of music. So with two "outings" I am weary now so will stay at home the rest of the day. I brought home half a sandwich, and some veggies and dessert which I will go enjoy now before getting ready for an early bed and book.

Hope to be back to say "goodnight" if anyone is still up. June

Hee I am thanking you all again, for concerns about my fall. About 4 PM I could not bend my knee, so I went to the new walk in Clinic. they were so kind to me when I went in.   The doctor had the same name as my OB gyN doctor year ago. Seems that was his father, and he had worked in southampton Hosp. ER for 20 years. He knew a lot of the doctors and nurses that I knew. Long story short, they took x rays of my knee and hip.  I had 3 open bleeding wounds that he took care of.  My knee looked OK, but he saq  a spot on my hip, he wants me to check out in a day too.  He gave me my x rays and said check with the er, if I am not getting any better.

Good morning everyone...

Raining out now so no hanging laundry out this morning. Thank you Larry and Gloria for the birthday wishes for hubby...he also had phone calls from the kids and a visit from his sister.

I brought the neighbours dog over for a while and will do that again today...if I thought he would be content to stay overnight I would try that.

Gloria de
Sorry to read about your fall, hope you're not too sore today from it.

Phyliss, have a Happy Birthday ...

Jane, yesterday I worked a lot at nothing, did a bit of sewing but the rest of the day was just putzing about.

Better go let the neighbours dog out.
Enjoy your day everyone..

June, I too have thought a lot about Jesus statement on Salty.  I think he is talking about life be the salt and as we all know you can get pretty fed up with life at times.  That is where the second part comes in.  When we become fed up with life, unsalty, then we must become "salty" again.  That is, immerse ourselves in the activities of life.  And when we have someone who is "fed up" or "unsalty" then we must try and help them to become "salty' again.  And the key to all this: accepting and giving the help peaceably or with good humor.  No dramatics or anger.  I think Jesus wants us to have a good full life "salty".  Not go around down cast and out of sorts.

Re-reading what I just wrote I don't think I did a very good job of explaining myself.  I mean life is salt, being fedup or giving up on life is unsalt.  Jesus was trying to tell us that when we reach or meet someone has lost their flavor for life we need to try and help with good humor, love and compassion.  And accept help from others in the same vein.

Well that certainly cleared that up, didn't ti..... :(

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning everyone, still dark out and I am awake early for a change.

LARRY  sorry about your SIL and the accident. Glad she is alright. I have been using GoogleChome as my browser but suddenly I just have Google and all the bookmarks I had are gone. Now to figure out how to get things set the way I had it. Gmail did not change and still have my contacts there.

GLORIA de  same thing happened in this town. People from the city moved here and built near farms, dairy and egg farms and then complained about the smell. They also wanted all they had in the cities so got into local politics to change every thing. Sad. Hope you are not hurting too much from your fall yesterday.

JENNY  I think I have finally learned how to get that belt on. So much Velcro that keeps sticking where it is not supposed to. It does seem to be helping and relieves some of the back pain the rest of the day. Looks like your son is learning of some of the great New England traditions. Going to an orchard at harvest time is one I do miss now. My son has gone to an orchard in Conn. to pick apples this year and he brought me some that I have enjoyed.

CALLIE  looks like you  had a busy day yesterday. Your errands were enough to make one worn out without your son and the other person getting there earlier than planned. Wish I could walk on a sandy beach again. I can say I have been into the Atlantic often and even got my feet wet in the Pacific when visiting my daughter.

JUNE  I have my cellphone number written down in several places but think I finally remember the number now.

JENNY  at one time I had a list of the birthdays of those in our group, back when I made the cards but I no longer remember anyone's special days. It had been a long time since Phyllis posted and  miss her and pray she is OK.

LLOYD  I woke very early for me this morning so hope I can get some Zzzz's this afternoon.

AMY no rain here but might have some on Monday, a holiday with parades and things going on so hope it does not rain then.

Well, I'm certainly glad to see all of you!  The first time I came here this morning, it told me the site was "not available" and to try again later.  The funny thing was, I had just been looking at it on my phone while I waited for the doggies on the porch.  I had that "UH-OH" feeling!

I've done a few things while I waited and I have the dishwasher running and the laundry sorted.  I'm still not dressed but that's next on my agenda.  I have to mzke a quick trip to WM and then I have to go over to Cathy's and let her doggies out and make sure the younger one does his thing.  She sayss the old guy can hold it and he will but the younger one isn't so fastidious.

When I come back, I'm going to make the apple crisp stuff.  I keep putting that off and I think it's time now to get going.  I wish you all a great day!

Joan, it's good to see a post from you.  I thought of you when I read that Gulfport was under storm or hurricane watch.  Maybe you have more in Alabama than you did in Florida.

I've wondered about Phyllis and checked to see when her last post was - and it was the morning of the day I checked.  Only it didn't say where she had posted.  Anyway, Phyllis, Happy Birthday and may you have many more.  And please come back.

Hi Everyone.  It is a cloudy morning and a little bit ago we had a very brief rain.  There is a small chance of further rain today and a better chance of rain tomorrow.  I found out early this morning why my foot doctor prescribed some pain pills as one of my big toes started having very sharp and throbbing pains.  I was very slow getting started this morning but finally got my shower and medicated and put the dressings on my big toes.  It is going to be a quiet day as think the antibiotic I am taking for a week is leaving me more exhausted than normal.  Pat plans a quick trip to Aldi's this morning and I plan on resting and watching college football this afternoon and evening.  I am hopeful I will feel up to attending Church tomorrow as we are having a special guest organist.  He is the principle organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir but I won't make that decision until in the morning.

deAngel, sorry to hear of your fall.  You must have had a fainting spell.  Glad you were able to see your friends at your Homemakers group.  Sure glad your nephew was there and I bet you gave him a terrible scare. Glad you had a doctor check you out.

Happy Birthday Phyllis.

Callie, you had a good reason to be a Recliner Radish yesterday.  I think you may have sent your discombobulated day down my way as that is sort of the way I feel this morning. My wife's cousin ran a bed and breakfast in a big old house about a block from the beech at Rehoboth Beach.  She sold it a year or so ago and now lives in an assisted living place near her daughter in Virginia.  We went several weekend at the B&B when we lived in Maryland and always enjoyed it.  She ran the place for over 50 years and had many loyal return guests.

Jenny, a couple of days of discomfort with my feet is sure better than many days of pain from the ingrown toenail.  Glad to see that Mark is safely in his new home.  When does he begin his new job? Is Leadville taking down its welcoming sign permanently?  I remember visiting Leadville many years ago.

Mary Ann, are you aware that you can have your mail delivered to your door if you have your doctor sign the form indicating you are no longer able to get to your box?  We had this done for my folks years ago.

June, years ago I had just one edge of my left big toe nail removed and it wasn't suppose to grow back but it did.  I do remember that as being a bit painful.

Amy, sometimes a putzing day is just what is called for.

Hal, I think you did a pretty good job of explaining salty.

Gloria, I think Google must have made some changes to their browser that caused the problem.  I think I finally got things back to normal.  I am having Velcro problems with the walking boots they gave me at the Podiatrist as there are Velcro straps everywhere and it seems to stick everywhere but where I want it to be.

Jane, it sounds like you have a busy Saturday planned.

Joan, glad your facility is taking no chances and have checked the generators as know you are dependent on that oxygen.  I sure hope you don't lose power.

It's a beautiful sunny day in central Oklahoma.   Not even any wind, Larry.
We had rented a car for our stay in D.C. and wanted to do a Day Trip out from the city.  Since the boys had seen the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico,  driving over to an Atlantic beach was a perfect way to let them dip their toes in that ocean.  We very much enjoyed seeing Annapolis and the countryside between D.C. and Rehoboth.  As I recall, we stopped at a grocery store and bought things for a picnic lunch at the beach.
Great trip in every way.

While eating breakfast, I watched a bright orange butterfly land on the hummingbird feeder. It went away when a hummer came to feed but came back when the bird left.
The other side of town is in the migration path for Monarchs but I've only seen a stray or two here.  However, I do notice a lot of other butterflies around this time of year so migration must be in progress for several varieties.

The Laundry Leprechaun filled all 3 compartments in my laundry cart.  Naughty Imp!!!!  So taking care of that is my Project du Jour.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

A good Saturday morning HELLO to all.

LLOYD, I do hope you were able to get back to sleep after your middle of the night post!

JOAN, I have been watching the reports of Hurricane Nate from Orange Beach this morning.  I see it is now a cat 2 storm.  My prayers for your safety as he comes on shore.

GLORIA, glad you are beginning to get the hang of that Velcro apparatus!  I picked it up on FaceBook that it was Phyllis’ bday.  I do hope she is OK and able to come in and join us soon.

LARRY, I sure assumed you would have pain with the removal of your big toenails!  Hope it is not too much of a discomfort for you.  I forgot to mention your SIL’s accident.  I sure hope she will be able to make the trip to visit you and Pat.  Mark starts his new job assignment on the 13th.  Yes, they are permanently removing the welcome to Leadville sign to build what I heard is to be affordable housing.   Endless to say!MANY are quite upset over this.  They plan to make another welcome sign somewhere, but expect it to be a much smaller version.

HAL, I think you did a fine job of explaining your thoughts on “salty”!
I thought of you last night as Bob and I enjoyed our meal at TX Roadhouse.  My goodness that place is quite something!  The food is very tasty and of course they give you WAY TOO MUCH of it.  I was nearly stuck in booth, as I certainly ate way too much and even brought home over half of my chicken fried chicken!

CALLIE, now I understand the plan you had for your son and the other man being there at the same time!😻 All we have heard here is the Leadville welcome sign land has been sold to a developer that plans to build “affordable” housing!

Snow is in our forecast so we will be moving all the patio furniture into the garage......😤😪.... I am NOT ready for winter!  We have all of these beautiful painted lady butterflies that have stopped here on their way south and I am afraid if they do not move on today that they will meet their demise!  There are so many of them migrating south they have shown up on the radar looking like a mass of birds or the like....it has been quite the news story around here.

I am off to get something done.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND,

Jenny

I made my "Apple Whatever-it-is" and it's delicious.  I'm taking one over to Cathy and Craig to have for dessert....and breakfast....and lunch...and whatever.  And aside from having to peel and slice apples with a dog pitifully begging behind me, it was very easy to do.  I'll put some in the hidey hole for anyone who wants to try it.

Good morning everyone.
Just got back from taking spare dog over home, he was so good last night you wouldn't know he was in the house. Will bring him back over later to stay the  night again.

Raining here and it thundered during the night,  doesn't look as though we will see the sun today.

Hal, my putzing and traveling yesterday  was fun ,even managed to get all the blocks together for a camp quilt.

Larry, I hope your toes feel a lot better today.

Jane, I enjoyed your Apple What-Ever It Is...you can do that again for the hidey hole please.

Joan it is so good to see you posting...dear lady you have been missed so much..

A lot of Canadians will hold their Thanksgiving today, we are having a quiet one here .All the kids are scattered. Son is in SC with temps of 90° and said he is going to BBQ today. ..

Better go get myself ready for the day..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!

No rain here, just lots of cloudy skies and thankfully some cooler temps.  You folks up in the North and East are in for some rainy weather for the next few days.  And some much cooler temps so our weather guessers tell us.

Happy Thanksgiving Amy.  One thing I remember about my days in Canada was the bank holidays in summertime to give folks some time off when the weather was "suppose" to be nice.  I remember on summer that it seemed to rain every weekend and holiday that summer.

Got to get myself in gear and get ready for church.

Everyone have a great day.

Thank you so much to all of you who say you have missed me.  I have checked in here a few times but haven't had anything to say.  I haven't been physically unwell but just haven't been in a "good place" for awhile and I didn't want to whine about it particularly since some of you meet bigger problems than I do and always with a cheerful attitude.  I have missed all of you, too, and have felt bad when things have not gone well for you.  I was so relieved to see you posting, Joan, and know that you are improving.  I have my fingers crossed that Hurricane Nate will not give your area too much of a problem.  See if you can transport some of the rain up here to NC. We are really dry.  My newly seeded lawn is already dying.   :(

Thank you for the birthday wishes.  It meant so much to me.  I actually forgot my birthday until my son reminded me.  At my age I tend to not want to think about birthdays too much.   :tissue:

I got up very early this morning to catch the latest episode of Outlander, Jane.  Did you watch it?  The newest episode is always made available sometime during Sat./Sun. night here so I am generally up early on Sunday morning.

Take care, Everyone.  Stay well, (no more falls, please, Gloria de!) and I'll try to be better about posting.

Hi Everyone.  It is a cloudy Sunday morning and have a 90% chance of rain this afternoon.  We will be leaving for Sunday School and Church in just a few minutes so will be very brief this morning.  I had a good night and had no toe pain yesterday.  No shortness of breath this morning other than the usual.

Callie, for some reason we seldom see butterflies down this way.

Joan, am looking forward to see you post that you weathered the storm without incident.  I saw on the news last night that many people were ignoring the shelters and just staying in their homes.

Jenny, I have been surprised by the lack of pain in my toes and after that little incident early yesterday morning I went through the day and night without anymore pain and good so far this morning.  My SIL is planning on making the trip.  I heard from her yesterday that she has aches in places she didn't realize she had as I guess I pretty normal with a car wreck.  She hasn't seen her car yet as her nephew parked it at his mother's home.  The Texas Roadhouse I one of our favorites and we have one close by here as we did over where we moved from.

Amy, Happy Thanksgiving up your way.  We have to wait several weeks for ours but our granddaughter has already asked Pat about what we would be having.  Hope you son enjoys the BBQ here in South Carolina and it doesn't get rained out.

Phyllis, good to see your postings and your problems are every bit as important as any of ours so please come and share with us.

Thank you all for your postings.  I don't have enough time to make many individual comments this morning but I bet you all will survive without them  :)

Good morning everyone, had the AC running all night again. Will be happy when it is put away for the winter. When I pulled up the shade and looked out was surprised at how windy it is. We will have rain later according to the latest weather report on TV. This will be from the latest hurricane Nate

JOAN  it is so wonderful to see you posting again. We have all missed you so much.  Good to know that where you are they have had the drills so everyone knows what to do in the storm. Stay safe. Hope Joe's place on Dauphin survives with no damage.

LARRY  hope your toes are not as painful today. I was wondering if I could put something on parts of the velcro on that belt so I can place it where it needs to be and not have to use all my strength to seperate it. All my bookmarks on Google are gone but at least the contacts on gmail are still there.

BUBBLE  nice seeing you here in the SS.

JOAN  prayers that the building you are in stays sturdy and the generators work to keep your oxygen going.

JENNY  I also hope Phyllis is OK.  I am on my own with that belt now, the PT that got me going with it signed off on Friday.

JANE  last week with help -she peeled the apples and I sliced them- I made an applecrisp, can no longer make a piecrust so the crisp was the next best thing I could do.

AMY  Happy Thanksgiving to you and all our Canadian friends.

PHYLLIS  great finally seeing you post. Remember this family here always worries about those who are missing.

LLOYD  glad you slept great for a change.

Good Sunday morning.

I did not get in here yesterday at all.  I was gone pretty much all day to a wedding.  Had to leave early, as the wedding was at 11 a.m. and it was about an hour away.  My daughter-in-law picked me up around 9:30 as we weren't sure just where the church was.  And, then we didn't leave the reception until after 4, so it was after 5 when I got back.  I was tired as I had  been awake since about 4 a.m.,  Went to bed early and didn't sleep very well.

So, now I am up, but not sure if I am "atem" yet.

I have had breakfast and have the morning show "Sunday Morning" on, as I like that show and for some reason, always seem to forget turning it until it is almost over.  I did remember it this morning, tho.

Yes, it is really nice to see messages from Joan.  Hopefully, soon, she will be back with us full-time.  Hope the latest hurricane doesn't affect her area too bad.

Jane, it looks like it is trying to rain here, but so far, only cloudy skies.  The weatherman predicts it is on it's way, tho.

I have no plans today, except for a nap, I am sure, later.

Phyllis, I am sending you belated birthday wishes.  So nice to see you back with us.  Hopefully, you will have better days ahead.

Hope everyone will have a nice restful Sunday.  And, if you aren't  resting, I hope you are doing something  that you really enjoy doing.

Joy

It's so good to see Joan posting again, and starting to sound more like herself.

Dark and dreary and kind of showery here in the Adirondack Mountains this morning.  But summer just doesn't seem to want to let go.  Temperatures staying near 80 dring the day and only down to around 60 at night.  But that's OK with me as I wait for a new furnace to be installed.  I can still use the old one (only 25 years) for a while if really necessary, but there is a crack in a small part that may make it burn hotter than normal - not really a good prospect.

Looks like Nate is pouring the water down on my daughter this morning in Asheville, NC, but he has lost a lot of strength already.  Next I'll be watching for my son in New Jersey, then see if we catch a little of the outer edge here.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I've been to church and stopped at the grocery store on my way home.

I forgot who it was who asked me about OUTLANDER but I don't see the new one until Sunday evening.  I'll be right there ready and waiting this evening.

Phyllis, we don't look on it as "whining".  We look at it as learning how our friends are doing.  If your day goes well, you don't have any problem sharing that with us.  If it's so-so you'd probably tell us that too.  If it's bad and you need a hug, you have to let us know that part, too.  Nobody's days are all PERFECT!  We miss our friends!

I've heard from both Cathy and Craig and they both liked the Apple Whatever.  Cathy wants the recipe.  It's so easy, I'm almost afraid to share.  But I will.

Amy, how nice that the doggies all got along.  You must have felt like you and Kyle were living in a "dog house" with the population increase.  You better treat them well or they'll toss you out one of these days.

It's 75º and rainy here today but the humidity is 87% and that makes it feel a lot hotter!  Have a great day!

Thank you for the Thanksgiving  wishes...we had such a big lunch that neither one of us wants a big supper tonight. So tomorrow we will have our TG meal.

Jane, Rex is so special to us.when Kyle was feeling better he would throw out wee dog cookies by the tree....cookie tree we called it. Now he doesn't get as many as I don't always get them there but Rex is also allergic to wheat!!

Phyliss ,what Jane said ....we miss you when you don't post.

I have been doing some sewing while everyone else was upstairs sleeping! Almost done, then I can move on to the next camp quilt :)

Phyllis, it was good to see a post from you.  Please keep coming back to share your days with us.  With you and Joan posting occasionally, our crew is complete (I think).

Dot and I did not go to brunch today.  We had a guest minister who didn't know when to quit.  Our services usually last about an hour and the one today was 1 1/2 hours.  By the time we were on the way home, I felt uneasy.  I felt fine, just uneasy, so I begged off today.  It's my turn to pay so next week we'll have the Tuna Melt and a cream pie of Dot's choosing.

Today was forgetfulness day for me as I forgot my hearing aids, Kleenex and money for our Noisy Sunday (every second Sunday is Coins for a Cause where we throw our loose change into a coffee can and make a "joyful" noise.  The money goes to various non-profits around town.)  I did have some loose change that I could put in, but I save quarters for the cause.

It is such a nice day, I think the temp is about 80 - here it is early October.

Grand Haven has been active the last few days; not with people but with whitecaps.  With the warmer weather, I am sure there will be people there today.

Happy Thanksgiving, Amy.  I am sure you'll eat well.  We will have ours in Holland MI this year with Tom's son, wife and twin girls.

We lost power about 1 a.m. And the generator kicked in quickly.  Linda is staying at Joe's because the area around their house is flooded - Joe and Kate are OK but their place at Dauphin island has flooding.

Good Sunday afternoon, all you good people.

For those who remember me, I'm back. :)   I recently lost my little best canine buddy, Rocko...was lost myself for awhile, and still miss him like crazy, but now I am not taking care of anyone or anything for the first time in 13 years.  It feels so strange.  I figured I needed to find a good way to spend some time, and thought of you.

It's so good to see some of the same people who have been here all along.  I've been reading and reading.

I don't know what happened, Joan, but I'm really glad to see you here.  Looks like I picked a good time to stick my nose back in the Soda Shoppe.

Good afternoon, been raining all day, I feel  bad as the Riverhead Country fair is to day they close the main roads in town and all along the river there are booths set up, also the boats dock all decorated.

Joan, good to see your post, but sorry to read about flooding around Joe and kates place.

Amy Happy Thanksgiving.

Phyllis, so glad to see you posting.  Some days I just come in and read all the post.  My knee is very sore, and has a couple of cuts on it and my leg also stays very still, I am using a rollator to get around.

Joy, I also have watch Sunday Morning for years.  Otherwise I watch GMA during the week.

JeanneLee I am watching the weather also, as my DIL lives on the panhandle of Fla., my g. daughter is intenn. and my other DIL live on Cape Cod. My furnace was 35 when I got a new one it was a Coleman, when they put the new one in the fellow this one will not last that long.

Jean, I guess the coffee has got cold, I was just too slow to get over to your house.

Welcome back NitaH

Nice to see you back posting, Nita.

Kate and Finlay were here to visit but couldn't stay very long.  Her sister and family, who live in Mobile, lost power because of the storm, so were on their way to Kate and Joe's to stay until power is restored.

Here is something funny JoanFL  that you should
get a kick out of.

I was watching a creepy moving (written by Steven King)
tonight on Netflix  tonight  called "Gerald's Game" ..   and low
and behold what they show near the end is a Court House in
"Fairhope Alabama"

I laughed and laughed thinking "That is where Joanie lives!!!

What a beautiful day this has turned out to be ! More messages from our beloved Joan/Bis. My heart is so happy. Bis, I am happy the family is doing O.K. I think we have to expect Dauphin Island to get the lions share of water, but as I recall last time it drained quickly. I figured the place you are in now is very well prepared for any disaster, thanks be to God.

This has been a blah day for me. I did get down for Church services but our new Chaplain preached for about an extra half hour, and it was a little much for many of us. He is a good man and very sincere, but this congregation is much older that he is. I hope he will not be discouraged with his new post.

I ordered my Sunday dinner to be delivered to my room. Just too weary to be with the others. I have so much food I have saved half of it which I may snack on later. A whole half of a cornish hen plus vegetables, etc. But my little refrigerator keeps things very well.

My Gary will be leading Bible Study this coming Wed. and I look forward to that. He is well liked by many.

I ordered a large print book in which I will have a section for email things, another for regular addresses and phone numbers, and a section for just "names". I need to identify with some of our workers, what they do, like our Nurses, cleaning gals, extra assistants, etc. I love them all but need to add-in what makes them special to me.

It's a great, good life even though I feel a bit worn out, every minute of every day is a gift, and I am thankful. And I love you all..my dear Seniors and Friends . :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

June, I know what you mean about long sermons.  We had a guest minister today and our one-hour service went to a 1 1/2-hour service.  I kept wishing he'd quit but he went on and on and on.  Most of my trouble was that I had forgotten to wear my hearing aids and I could not hear the man much of the time.  So that part was my own fault.  Then my nose kept running and I had forgotten to take a pack of Kleenex with me.  Things go in threes and the third thing was that I forgot my loose change for our second-Sunday-of-the-month collection.  I had change in my billfold and will have to replenish that.

Other than that, everything is fine!  No complaints.  Beautiful day here today!

Good morning Everyfriend!  We're in pill wait time for the doggies.  I have no plans for today except to pick up Kiran after school lzter this afternoon.  Wonder what I should get into the rest of the day?  Oh yeah!  I could deal with those two piles of laundry I have sorted.  And I suppose I could change the bed and I bought the stuff to try those recipes.  I guess I'll find something.

It started to rain sometime around 3 z.m. and is still raining.  Weather says it's going to rain until mid afternoon.  That's OK.  We really need it.  It's been so dry here.

Lloyd, I like your plans.  Either one of the possibilities will work nicely.  I hope you are able to work it all out.  You and Nancy deserve some good times in your lives.

Now I'm going to go do my jigsaw puzzle and my crossword puzzle while I wait for the doggies pills to work.  Take today and make it yours!  Do great things even if you don't leave your room or your home.  God loves you!

Good Morning Everyone!

One of those nights, woke about 330 and never went back to sleep, well that I know of.  Finally about 20 mins ago said to myself:  self, go put the coffee on and get yourself dressed, this old night is over and was for you several hours ago.

Weather guessers say cold front coming and front MAY bring some rain and it may not.  But it will cool things off for a couple of days.

Two of my girls will be up today from Del Rio to take care of some doctor apmts and will get to see them for a little while, which will be nice.

Hope everyone has a good day and week.

Good Monday morning to all the early friends.

A very rainy, dreary, windy morning here.  We really need the rain.....just don't want a whole week of it.  The weather man says it will be a warm week with a nice weekend ahead.

I, too, had another sleepless night.   I was still awake at 4:30 , and did doze off for a little while.  Since it is such a dreary day,  I am sure a nap is not too far away.  If I start to read,  I know I will fall asleep.  Happens almost all the time.

Nothing special on this Monday Holiday.  I know there is no mail and our office staff here is off.   My son's 53rd birthday is on the actual Columbus Day, the 12th.  We will all go to dinner on Saturday.  I should have put his card in the mail on Saturday, but I wasn't even thinking about today being a holiday. It  won't go out until tomorrow, so do hope he will get it by Thursday.

Jane, by now you have taken care of your little doggies and I am sure you probably have had your breakfast and done your puzzles.  I think you mentioned that you go back to work tomorrow.   It is a shame that it is not a very nice day for your last day of vacation.

Sorry, Hal, that you also had a rough night.  Enjoy the visit with your daughters.

Lloyd, hope your traveling plans will work out for you.  It is a  great way to see a lot of the country.  We traveled for a good many years....... with kids, when they were younger, in a pop-up camper and then, when my husband retired, we graduated up to Class A motorhome and ended up with pull-along travel trailer. We had a lot of great trips and I really miss those days.

Hope everyone will have a good day and stay dry, if it is raining where you are.

Joy

Good morning eve4ryone..

Another rainy day here...love the sound of a gentle rain.

I am sure going to miss this spare dog, what a joy he has been, gets along great with our girls too. I will take him home later this evening as his owners will be back late tonight.

Need to throw some apple pies together and tidy up some......then off to sew I hope.Finished the one camp quilt  and started another last night. While I am downstairs I might as well throw a load of laundry in also.

Jane, enjoy your last day of holidays, my they sure went fast. I hope you are back on your regular day hours now.

Hal, not nice being able to sleep the  night away.

Joy, a nice nap later on may just fit the  bill for you.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, another rainy day here. Cannot complain as we have had a stretch of very warm sunny days. On local TV this morning they showed one parade where they were marching in the rain and few people with umbrellas watching.

JOY  you really did have a long day Saturday.

JEANNE LEE  we may get some rain from Nate, too, so say the weather guessers.

JANE  you said it all to PHYLLIS. We do miss and worry when a regular poster does not post. With 2 days of rain I would like to turn the heat up to get the dampness out but I would have to turn the thermostat too high and then it would get hot in here.

AMY  enjoy your TG meal today.

JOAN  glad your place had the generators kick in when needed. Glad your family is OK and hope not too much da,age to Joe's place on Dauphin Island.

NITA  welcom to the Soda Shoppe. Sorry I do not recognize your name but there are many other forums I never get to.

GLORIA de  between parades, October fests and a big Art Festrival this week end and all this rain wonder how many shoiwed up. Thank goodness for rollators, only way I can get around.

JUNE  like you I feel worn out all the time lately.

LLOYD  hope you make that trip around our beautiful country. That is something I always wanted to do.

HAL  ok Bozo, hope you slept good last night.

JANE  wondered why Kiran would have school today with it being a holiday then remembered that Columbus day is a state holiday here.

New Alphabet:

A is for apple, and B is for boat,

That used to be right, but now it won't float!

Age before beauty is what we once said,

But let's be a bit more realistic instead.

The Alphabet For Seniors:

A's for arthritis,

B's the bad back,

C's the chest pains, perhaps car-di-act?

D is for dental decay and decline,

E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!

F is for fissures and fluid retention,

G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.

H is for high blood pressure - I'd rather it low;

I for incisions with scars you can show.

J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,

K is for knees that crack when they bend.

L 's for libido, what happened to sex?

M is for memory, I forget what comes next.

N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;

O is for osteo, bones that don't grow!

Alphabet
P's for prescriptions, I have quite a few, just give me a pill and I'll be good as new!

Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?

R is for reflux, one meal turns to two.

S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears,

T is for Tinnitus, bells in my ears!

U is for urinary, troubles with flow,

V for vertigo, that's 'dizzy,' you know.

W for worry, now what's going 'round?

X is for X ray, and what might be found.

Hi Everyone.  We had some really good and soaking rain yesterday, low chance today and a much better chance tomorrow for more rain.  I think the antibiotic I am taking because of my toenail removals is really doing a number on me in terms of just wanting to sleep and feeling very tired.  It was 9 am before I got to the kitchen this morning, almost unheard of as I usually get up early.  Fortunately it is a stay at home day.  Pat already got out and went to the lab to have a blood draw in preparation for her appointment with the doctor on Thursday.  I will probably post late tomorrow as have a 9 am appointment with the eye doctor to start the cataract removal process.

Gloria, I know it is frustrating to lose your bookmarks.  I have been using a Chrome Extension called Speed Dial 2 to keep track of my bookmarks.  I can export the code and email it to myself and then if I happen to lose my Chrome setting all I have to do is go to the email, copy the code and then in the Chrome setting open the import feature and paste that code in and I am back in business.  I had to do this just the other day when things got all out of order with Chrome.  Currently I am having a problem first thing in the mornings when my computer seems to lock up for five or ten minutes and after that time it starts working again.  I can't find any program working in the background that may be causing that but there has to be something.  It is very annoying.  I am a big fan of many of the Google apps such as documents and the Keep memo function as everything is available to be regardless of what computer I am using.

Jeanne, sure hope they get your new furnace installed before you need it.  A crack in your furnace sounds worrisome.

Amy, hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal today.  Very often we celebrate special days such as Thanksgiving with our son and granddaughter on a day when he is off work rather than the designated day.

Joan, sure a relief to see that you are OK and that the generator worked as needed.  Sorry to read that Linda's place has flooding and sure hope it didn't get into her house.  Too bad about the place on Dauphin Island.

Nita, sure nice to see you post again and hope you will visit with us regularly.  I wish that many of the folks who stop by to read the postings would join in the conversations.  As we all know this is not a closed group and newcomers or returners are always more than welcome and newcomers don't stay that very long.  I would hate to think that anyone would be hesitant to joint in our discussions thinking they wouldn't be welcomed.

June, it sounds like you and others may want to drop a subtle hint to your new Chaplain that shorter is much better than longer.

Lloyd, it sounds like you have big travel plans ahead.

Gloria, I liked your new alphabet.

I want to see how "lime green" posts, so bear with me folks.

I had a good solid nights sleep, but sure don't want to wake up yet, and it is past mid morning. Finally made myself rise...no shining...at 9 a.m.
Hal, I'm sorry you are waking in what I would consider the middle of the night. You need a full nights sleep, so I would suggest you ask your doctor for an aid. My Grandpa would suggest a cup of tea, laced with bourbon.

Gloria, I don't know your age, but at nearly 93 maybe I am expecting too much out of this aging body. How ever I phoned my downstairs neighbor this morning, and sang Happy Birthday to her..96 years for her today, and she gets out and walks the gardens like a 40 year old. She needs her rollator, but she sure steps it off sprightly. and her mind is as crisp as her walk. So I'll not give up yet.

Larry, I am sure our new Chaplin is going to get some suggestions about shorter sermons. It's sad, because he is so sincere in sharing his love for the Lord. He just has to be told his congregation is in some cases, twice his age.

Time for me to wander downstairs and see what's happening. They have Columbus Day posted, but I don't see any activity.

Good morning everyone.  I was going to pop in earlier, but forgot. lol   I'm on my second day with no morning coffee.
Two cups before anything else has been my morning ritual for a long time.  I have been having some acid reflux, so trying to see if not drinking coffee helps.  So.........my mornings the last two days have been here and there.  Funny how habits can set our tone.   What do you drink instead of coffee?  I think tea would be too acidic too.  Maybe I'll just drink warm water. haha

We are having some sunny days here, but I hear rain is coming this week.  No little wet paw prints this time.

June, sometimes pastors can talk a little too long. :)  I haven't been to church in a long time (can't sit for long), so I go to You Tube and watch the service where my daughter and her family attend.  I'm grateful he uploads each service a day after.  It's nice having a pause button too. :)

...and I didn't see your lime green post.

I need something to do with myself, so have decided to start from square one with Paint Shop Pro.  I found some beginners lessons, go at your own pace, on Yahoo groups.  When I get caught up, I might post something in the psp group.  Or not. lol

Have a blessed day, everyone.

Our Blessed Firefighters have done it again. Our Orange Co. skies have cleared again...at  least    from where I sit. From what my television has shown me, once again beautiful big homes were built in a remote area.  Hundreds of them ,  in an  area that would be difficult to protect. Man will do what man will do, buy Nature has plans of it's own.

I am thankful to see blue skies once again rather than the brown of disaster.

I have been in to read so many times & don't think is posted since I made the trip to MO.  BUT.... I do want to welcome back Nita, I do remember the name ... in case you don't remember me as Shirley, I used to be Tisie.  Welcome home!  Life does bring changes so we have to learn what is good & what is not so easy anymore.  Gathering here is a good thing, we all recognize what others are dealing with and can encourage, sympathize or give hugs.  After all these years I think most everyone here will tell you that "belonging" truly is like having another real family.  I'm glad you found your way back and hope you will fill in what you've been doing the last few years, please?

Joan, it is so good to see you posting again, you gave us all a scare.  You seem to be in a great & safe place, smart planning!  Sorry about the flooding so many are dealing with, such extreme problems with weather lately.  My little red head broke her arm this week & had to wait for the swelling to go down before putting a cast on until today.  Broke both bones so she gets a "cast with sparkles that everyone can sign".

I drove to MO Thursday for a high school luncheon on Friday, was cloudy & rainy all day, I love to drive in rain.  I found on the last trip to Colorado that the cats seem calmer when I play Glenn Miller, so this time it played almost the whole trip, cats behaved better than any other trip!  I did try other 40s & 50s CDs but Tom started to get sick so Glenn Miller went back in to play fast.

Had an uneasy moment when I went to my favorite campground, the site I usually try for was taken so the camp host assigned me to a site HE thought was even better.  Had I realized where it was I would not have agreed, was just across the road to "lake level", where I knew the "boys club" camped together, the boaters that partied all evening & got up early to get those speed boats out on the water.  Not a place I every wanted to be.

My uneasy feeling was justified when a big RV across the road from my site pulled out well after dark, not something that ever happens.  About midnight the largest truck I ever saw pulled into the next site across the road where a camper was already in place. 2 men got out & started walking around from truck to the plug in post, then a 3rd man joined them from the camp site next to me... the light was turned off & on as they talked & walked back & forth from truck to post.  The cats were laying on the dash of my RV so I got up & watched out the window with them.  (No lights on in mine so they could not see I was watching).

All of a sudden I happened to think that "this might be a drug deal so what if they get angry..."  My Ruger came out of it's case & kept it in my hand until I felt comfortable the guys were just trying to fix something & weren't a danger.  First time EVER that I was uneasy in a campground.  I will be going back toward the end of the month, for a family reunion.  The camp host will be gone for the winter so I will park where ever I please, I am okay with this.  I usually pick a site where there are no other campers around, quiet, good TV reception & great sleeping.  If it is a nice week end it may still be crowded, my other option is a Walmart parking lot.  The cats love the activity in a Walmart parking lot but I'd rather have electric plug in to watch TV or play DVDs.

The most convenient spot/ campground I've found on the east side of Kansas City will be closed from Oct.1 for crews to set up Christmas lights, so my options are limited as long as I have to take cats.  I love the drive, no problems with altitude in MO so that's a good thing.  We had a fair turn out for the reunion but some missing that were there last year, kind of sad.  I did tell my old friends that "I wouldn't want to change one thing about the past for fear it would mean a difference in this stage of my life, and I am very happy today".  Life isn't perfect but we might as well appreciate, be grateful and enjoy what we can of each day.

Today we had a big change in the weather, temps lower, been watching for rain & storms.  I had a look at the Colorado view cams & they are having near blinding snow on Monarch Pass and in St. Elmo.  Some of the snow to move into northwest Kansas, but looks like we will go back to 80s again next week end.  I'm hoping for the COLD weather when I go to MO, I'd rather put on coats & UGGS and be comfy than deal with heat & hot sun!  What does the Farmer's Almanac say for this winter.... all I've heard is "colder" than last winter.  We hardly had winter... didn't even get to use the snow blower.  Actually, we didn't have the "over 100s" this summer so not at all a normal year for Kansas.  God Bless All, sweet dreams.

Now, Gloria, I promised myself I would keep this short ... but gotta tell you how much I enjoyed your new alphabet!

Good evening......it is nearly bedtime, but I just wanted to say HELLO.

WE are in Vail at our Boston Sons mountain home.  Dr. Dave and Family are here for the week, so they invited us up to spend some time with them.  We woke up to devistating news of the terrible fires in N. California. Dave had a private surgery practice in Healdsburg for a few years, so he (they) knows so many people in the area. Many of their friends have lost their homes and vineyards.  It is heartbreaking.

JOAN, I am sorry to read that Joe had damage again on his beach home.  It is wonderful to see you posting now.

SHIRLEY, good to hear your MO trip went well.  I would have been a bit uneasy with that activity going on in the camp ground also.  Had to chuckle at the kitties behaving better with Glen; Miller playing!

Welcome back NITA.

LARRY! good to read that the toe issue is going well....it sure seems like it would be more painful that it seems to be.

We had a big snow in Denver today.....we are expecting to have limb damage on our beautiful trees as they were still full of leaves.  I think we will head home tomorrow......

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

I have to confess i do not reamber but I am lucky to reamber my Owen name now day's. after the head knocks in 014. we went and seen a Lawyer yesterday to set up a trust, think that is better than a will at least in MO. it is. can't fight in court as easily, judge usually tells the fighting parties to hit the road. we also went and picked about four bushels of pares. so today I will be pealing and coring pares. love those pare cobblers and or pare halves in a side dish with meals. have a great day one and all.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I just realized that I didn't stop by to say Good Night last night.  I hope everyfriend slept well and that you all wake to a bright and beautiful day!

We're in "pill wait" time for the doggies and then I have to get ready to go back to work.    The beeper just went off for dog food.  I'm in the middle of making a new supply so I better get that job done or they won't have breakfast.

Take today and make it your best yet!

Good morning.  It is very warm and muggy here today.  My thermometer on the porch said it was 79° at 5 a.m. It was a kind of an uncomfortable night.  The AC came on several times.  We're not getting as much rain as we need but there is more than enough water in the air.

No plans for the day except the usual household laundry.  I am still finishing up my last supply of library books.  I kind of went overboard last time I checked out of the library and came home with nine books so I need to work on finishing those up before I go back to the library tomorrow.

Stay well, All.

PHYLLIS, we're having those high humidity days this week, too.  The temps are only in the mid to high 70s but the humidity is up into the 89 and 9o% area.  It kind of beats me down.  I'd rather have hot and dry.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we could be in for a stormy day later today.  This is finally the morning when I get to see the eye doctor.  The paperwork said to allow up to two hours for this appointment although find it hard to believe it will take that long.  I have my paperwork already filled out as they sent it to me.  That is all that is on the schedule for today.  I will have to be brief this morning as we must leave in about 15 minutes.

June, maybe your new Chaplain was just extra nervous and let the time get away from him as he delivered the sermon.

Nita, hope you aren't having withdrawal symptoms.  I remember when I dropped drinking caffeinated coffee year ago as had a bad headache all morning long for 5 or 6 days.  I doubt that the coffee did much to keep the acid reflux away.

Shirley, nice to see you are safely home from your trip.  Too bad about your camp sight but glad all turned out well.  Nice to see your cats like Glen Miller.

Jenny, hope you are enjoying your Vail outing.  Too bad about Dr. Dave's friends losing their homes and vineyards in the terrible fires.  I have been surprised at how painless my toes have been.  Just one pain pill needed.

Lloyd, you will have saved your family lots of headaches and potential problems, much less hundreds of dollars, by having your estate in trust.  My folks did that and it was certainly a blessing for my sister and I and made settling their estate very simple and quick.

Amy, nice of you to help your friend with her medical appointment today. Glad your son found someone to share his Thanksgiving meal with him.

Good Tuesday morning.

Pretty sunny morning with no wind and temperature is already up near 70 º.  Rain and cooler tomorrow, but then back to the warmer weather for the week end
It can stay like this for the whole rest of the winter.  I am not looking forward to winter.

I talked to my grand daughter over the week end and she moved up to Connecticut from Myrtle Beach last fall, and she is looking forward to the colder weather.  She is anxious to be able to go skiing again.

I have nothing special going on today.  I will probably read for a while.  I did not sleep all that well again last night, so if I start reading, I usually get so sleepy so that will result in a little napping.

Shirley, glad everything went well with your camping trip after you finally discovered that there was no suspicious activity going on across from you. That would have been scary.

Jane, hope your first day back to work after your vacation will be a good one with lots of  "welcome back" smiles.  I am sure you and your pleasant greetings have been missed.

Hope all the friends will have a good day.

Joy

Good morning everyone, we have sunshine this morning and it is so welcome. This is supposed to be our last summerllike day, into the 80's again. I will welcome autumn temperatures. A 13 year old boy got a gun and shot a boy who had been bullying for 2 years.

JOAN  it makes it really feel good coming here in the morning and seeing you. Feels like "home" again. On local news last night they showed several Columbus statues that had geen spray painted. Seems like Columbas was horrible to the local Native Americans and suddenly some people want the statues taken down and the holiday thrown out. Crazy.

MARY ANN  there was a Y & Z maybe when I copied it I left them out? I should check better before I post.

LARRY  you are much smarter than me with computers. Things have to be simple for me or I do not understand. I did get my favorites in IE imported into Google Chrome again. Somethings I like kept in the bookmark bar. Last time my  was here and checked out this machine
he saw that bar and scolded me for having so many things starting when I got online. Guess he never used that bar and now he has a Mac. He told me to save up and get one, too. Heck I had all I could do to save up for a PC.

JUNE  we have a lady here who just hit the 100 year mark. She is almost blind but is outside waling around the parking lot every day. Her mind is sharp and she is fun to talk with. Glad your lime green did not show up, disgusting color to my eyes.

NITA  been thinking, were you active in PSP before?  Your name is familiar for some reason but yesterday it did not ring a bell. I used to get acid reflus often, no fun. Had that scope dowm my throat and was prescribed Prevacid. Was told no eating at least 2 hours before bed but nothing ever said about coffee. What about decaf coffee?  OK just saw you mention PSP now I do remember you. At one time we used to email each other.

SHIRLEY  your cats know good music when they hear it. Listening to Glen Miller would not be hard to take on a long ride. Oh you and I think alike, bring on the cold temperatures and even beautiful snow. Not normal weather here either this summer. PLEASE keep  your posts the way they are. Always interesting. Glad you liked the alphabet.

JENNY  was wondering how much snow you got in Denver. On the TV I heard possibly a foot of it.

LLOYD  that is a lot of pears and I know all the work is worth it when you can enjoy them on a cold snowy winter day.

PHYLLIS  I have 1 book to bring back to the library downstairs and hope I can avoid bringing more back up with me, still have 3 more to read.

JANE  I am with SHIRLEY, rather have cold.

"OLD PEOPLE" PRIDE

Old People are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old People remove their caps, cover their hearts, stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.

Old People remember World War II, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy, and Hitler.. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mentionVietnam

If you bump into an Old Person on the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Person on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old People trust strangers and are courtly to women and treat them with great respect.

Old People hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.

Old People get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies.

Old People have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children, grandchildren or their animals.

It's the Old People who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.

This country needs Old People with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country, and decent values. We need them now more than ever.

Thank God for Old People....

Good Morning Everyone!

Seems like old times, Joanie is back among the fold.  Welcome good lady.

This morning has a chill in the air.  Real Fall weather even if it is just for one or two days.  Possibility we wont  get over 54 degrees if it stays cloudy.

I need to get down and get my car inspected and get new tags for it.  I keep putting it off.  I also need to get my ears lowered or get some dog tags for me.  Looking pretty shaggy.

Other than that I don't have a lot going on.  Laughed at my pup this morning.  She was feeling her oats with the cool weather.  Running all over the back yard, guess she was feeling like a pup again.  Bless her old heart, she is a real sweetheart.

got to go get cleaned up..... C U Later

Hello, all.  Got S&F bookmarked on the Kindle so I can visit more easily without having to sit at my computer very long.

I was watching the news earlier about the fires. Such destruction..Sad to think of so many losing everything.
2017 has not been a good year for lots of people.

Well, my coffee fast didn't last long.  :crazy2:  I did !imit myself to one cup, and it was ahhhh-good.  And no heart burn.  I really, really didn't want to give up my coffee.

June, I saw your lime green text. :). If you keep it, I will easily recognize your posts.  I'm reading all the posts and trying to remember who said what. I remember when I was herd before, I was always so impressed at those who addressed each friend's post.  I think someone said you opened two windows and did it that way?

I have no plans for today, but need to cut more berry vines coming over the fence from the neighbor's. Sometimes, if I don't have my clippers with me, I'll just direct them back over the fence.  :) There's always some thing to do outside..I like having a project, no matter how small.

Tisie…did you ever find out the mystery  of this??

Phillis, I too did laundry this morning and it wore me out . I think I am home for the rest of the day. I am reading another Jan Karon book. She was a favorite for a long time, and now in coming back to "Somebody safe with somebody good," I'm finding it a bit confusing. I confuse easily these days it seems.

Larry, I think an hour is normal for most Churches, but we are a group of much older people, and we tire physically much faster than those under 90 years, plus we have a group from the care facility that are all in wheel chairs and lose a train of thought early on. 45 minutes seems to be a comfortable limit of time.

Joy, my youngest Grandson took a Ministerial
position at a church in Idaho, and he and his your family are delighted with the area..the little ones are learning to ski and skate and the scenery is outstanding. They  love it.

Gloria, I find that age can not be numbered in years. We have some folks here that are still youthful in their late 90
's. some, like your 100 year old that could run circles around younger folks, and then those of us in early 90's that just hang on in there, do a  mean wiggle if the music grabs us, and then take time to  do some deep breathing to keep going. Life is a ball, and I love it.

Hey Bis…….my buddy is back posting in GREEN again. Yay  ! Now it  feels like  the good old days again. Thanks Bis Girl.!!

Nita, To me, the Green belongs to our Bis/Joan. I was just missing her so much I had to post it.  I'll go back to blue again. What kind of berries are growing on your side of the fence ?My  Mom had Mulberry vines, and when my kids were young the were in Berry Heaven, eating right from the vines.

It is past lunch time, so I had better go raid my fridge. To late to eat downstairs, but I'm loaded with goodies..I"ll start with macroni salad and go on from there.

Joan, I join with the rest of our group, to say so happy seeing you posting.  Also pleased that you are happy with your new home, and close to your family

No, June, I am only guessing that those guys were not a threat but just working on something.... but bet they were "feeling no pain" since they were working with bright lights on & past midnight, in all campgrounds it is "quiet time" at 10:00 pm.  Having that big RV pull out after 10:00 pm was another first since check out is between noon & maybe 2:00 pm at the latest.  Actually, I stay away from the type campers that go to drink & boat, they can get pretty wild.  I was not afraid but cautious.... never know what can happen these days.

Nita, was thinking about your trying to cut down on coffee & remember that I did the same think about 25-30 years ago when all of a sudden I was having heart burn so bad I explained to the Dr that "I could start a fire across the room the burn was so hot".  After a while I decided that since the only time in my life I had heart burn was when I was pregnant, I would see if the cure I used then would work again. It did!  I started taking iron & bone meal vitamins and was no time the heart burn was gone.  Bad part was that by the time I found the cure I already had osteoporosis. After years of bone scans my osteoporosis is no worse than the first scan & all I've done is take the vitamins.  I do take the 1000 mg Tums on the days I don't take vitamins, seems to help/work.  I didn't stay off the coffee, tried the decaf & half caf but it was the acid, not caffeine.  Hope you find a solution that works for you.

Time for the cats midnight snack so better round them up.  They aren't thrilled with the cold weather.  Sweet dreams and God Bless.

Good morning everyone...

Yesterday was a fun but long day. My friend doesn't have to go back until next year. We shopped at a few places first ,then Dr, then home.

Need a fire on this morning to chase the chill away.one of these days it will be on to stay.

Gloria we stopped at a road side stand and they we charging 1.00 per apple  and .50 each on Royal Galas!! I think our Mennonite market is cheaper than that! Copied your Old Folks, thank you for sharing.

Jane , I hope you had a good nights sleep, first day back is a long one.

Hal, isn't it fun to watch our old girls run and play like a pup again. Tis 40° here this morning..

Larry, good luck at the eye Drs. today.

Joy ,hope you slept better last night. Some nights I lay awake and when I finally get to sleep it is time to get up :(

Jenny, I hate to see trees damages by snow or ice. I know we will get snow next month and that is soon enough for me.Watched the fires on the news and can't imagine the loss for the people.

Joan, great to see you posting,Hope each days makes you feel stronger.

Better get a move on here.

Take care everyone and enjoy your day.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and moving this morning.  We're in pill wait time for the doggies and since I have to be to work at 8:30 this morning, I decided to take my shower and make the bed while I was waiting.

I can't say I slept well last night but I do feel ready to meet the day and whatever it brings.  I was a little upset with the miscommunication between associate (me) and management (my immediate superior) yesterday and I think that added to my tiredness.  But I did a lot of thinking and I think I might have come up with a solution to that particular problem.  We shall see!

I'm having my coffee while I wait and when the buzzer goes and I feed the doggies, I'll have breakfast.  My day is off to a good start!  I hope all of yours are doing the same.  Make it the best!

Good morning everyone, finally had lower temperatures last night, no AC for a change, just a fan in  the window kept me cool enough to sleep.

JOAN  glad Joe brings you a good breakfast. At times I would love to have bcon and eggs for breakfast bu about all I can make then is oatmeal. Glad I like it. I think we can all recognize us or someone we know in "Old People"

HAL  we are starting in the low 60's here this morning and that is cooler than it has been.

NITA  those fires in Ca. are horrible and so many lives lost already. This morning on the news they showed one vineyard all ashes, that is a big loss to them. I have S&F on half my screen and notepad on the other. Works for me. When I first got to SN I would jot notes and then tried to read them to write in the post box.

JANE  is retirement looking closer?

JUNE  the 100 year old lady here is livelier than I am.

SHIRLEY  years ago we used to go camping near Provincetown on Cape Cod. Nice family campground with lots of kids and they had things in the evening to entertain them. Lat time we went we found the place had been sold to a young couple. We only stayed 2 nights and left. Too noisy with a lot of drinking, not family friendly anymore.

AMY  that stand sounds like it charges market prices. I know one orchard here that charges different prices for different varieties. My son charged to same price for all of them. Where He goes to pick apples now does what he did. He is ready to cut his trees down and just keep a few for family.

Ode to Old Age

Just a line to say I'm living
That I'm not among the dead
Though I'm getting more forgetful
And all mixed up in my head.
I got used to my Arthritis
To my dentures I'm resigned
I can manage my Bifocals
But dear God I miss my mind
For sometimes I can't remember
When I stand at the foot of the stairs
If I must go up for something
Or have I just come down from there?
And before the fridge so often
My poor mind is filled with doubt
Have I just put some food away?
Or have I come to take something out?
And there's a time, when it is dark
I stop and hold my head
I don't know if I'm retiring
Or am I getting out of bed?
So, If it is my turn to write to you
There's no need getting sore
I may think that I have written
And don't want to be a bore
So remember that I love you
And wish that you were near
But now it's nearly mail time,
So I must say "good-bye dear"
Here I stand before the computer
With a face so very red
Instead of emailing you my letter
I went and saved it instead.

So I must say "good-bye dear"
Here I stand before the computer
With a face so very red
Instead of emailing you my letter
I went and saved it instead.

Here I stand before the mailbox
With a face so very red
Instead of mailing you my letter
I went and opened it instead.

Good Morning Everyone.
It is another cool morning and it feels pretty good, but knowing that in a couple of weeks the leaves will be falling and turning and then nothing but bareness, well that isn't completely true, the live Oaks will still have their leaves and of course the Cedars.  But grasss will be brown from the frost until the winter Rye starts to come up.  But the Rye is patchy.  I don't know if the wive will put any Pansies out or not this year.  I am not able to dig up the flower beds and we only have one young man in neighborhood and he may not want to earn any money.   Young guys don't look for jobs any more, it seems.

Amy, yes it is fun to see the pup enjoying life as a puppy again.  She is mellowing out and becoming so affectionate as she ages. She like lots of petting and loving and that I can give her.  She is a loving gentle old soul.

Janie, hope things work out for you at work.  Work and home are two places it just plain makes things mieserable to get cross ways with someone.

Shirley, yep, you gotta wonder what those guys were up to.  Obviously they were not going to a parts store at that time of night.  Were they in their slot the next morning?  Or still gone.

Well I got half my job done yesterday.  Got a haircut and my car inspected.  But both took longer than I thought and I decided I would put off getting my sticker for my license plates.  Will do that this morning before it gets busy....beautiful dreamer....

For all our folks on the West Coast I hope things are settling down along with the fires.  I swear, for the life of me, I cant understand why they don't cut that undergrowth out to stop these fires.  How many lives and how much property has to burn up to start using some common sense.

Well I have written a book this morning, hope I didn't bore too many.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi Everyone.  We have another overcast and muggy day.  Yesterday was very humid but last evening, after dark, we did finally get some more rain.  It is to be in the upper 80's today.

I did see the eye doctor yesterday and will have my cataracts removed in the coming weeks.  I have another appointment on Oct. 20th at 8 am so they can take more measurements and then schedule the first cataract removal.  Three weeks later I will go back for the second eye.  I am pretty sure this is the normal procedure.  The appointment yesterday took about two hours and I have never had such a thorough exam of my eyes.  It seemed to take forever for the dilation of my eyes to pass.  It was lunchtime when we finished at the doctor's office so we decided to have one of the $5 lunches at Dairy Queen for our main meal.  The main thing on the schedule for today is the dinner at the Church this evening, when we are having fried chicken as our main item with a vegetable, salad, bread and dessert.  Scott plans on joining us and then will come out to the house for awhile. Jennifer has decided to pass on the dinner and coming out this week.

Joy, I find that listening to audiobooks is a good way to get to sleep.  Sometimes I don't realize I have been asleep until I start listening to the book again and realize I don't have a clue as to what they are talking about and then have to go back until I find where I must have gone to sleep.

Gloria, how sad that young people get pushed so far with bullying that they kill that person or sometimes commit suicide.  The only knock down fight I ever participated in was with a cousin who was bullying me and I had finally had it.  I think I was in the 7th grade in our little one room school house.  I am having a computer problem that is baffling to me so far.  Each morning my computer freezes up for a few minutes and then will start working again.  There must be some program running in the background that is causing it.  I need to do some exploring.  It has been going on for a week or two.  I would like to have a Mac for don't expect to ever own one as don't want to shell out that much money.  However, I spend almost as much for the iPhone and have never really regretted doing so.  I might have a weak moment someday and get one but I doubt it.  That piece about Old People is so on target.

Joan, glad Joe was able to bring you something you liked for breakfast.  I have always found that after a day or two the meals in hospitals seem to taste the same and become less appealing.  It is so good to see a posting from you now each day for several days.

Hal, I could share some of our warmer weather with you but sure you wouldn't want the humidity that is accompanying it. I am sure glad I can stay inside all day.  In South Carolina, at least in our area, car inspections are not required.  They were required in a number of other States where I have lived, including all the years in the Atlanta area as the smog was bad in that area.

Nita, the tablets like the Kindle are so much easier to use even when one is reclining.  I do a lot of my computer work on my iPad or my iPhone.  Glad you were able to enjoy your coffee.

Jane, glad you had a good first day back at work after your vacation from the job.

June, Pat and I both enjoyed the Jan Karon books about Father Tim and all the people he was involved with.  I have heard our minister say he tries to keep his sermons to 18 minutes or so and we almost always are out of our eleven o'clock service by noon or just a few minutes after.  He is aware that the Baptists across the street may beat us to the restaurants for lunch.  :)

Shirley, always good to be cautious, especially when you are alone.  I take 1200 mgs of calcium daily as have osteopenia and sure don't want osteoporosis.  I have done this for a number of years now.

Amy, it is shocking to pay $1 or more for a single apple.  Fortunately red delicious apples are my favorite and they are usually the cheapest around here.  I have been getting some really beautiful ones at Costco. We don't have any Mennonite or Amish markets around this area.

Lloyd, hope you can get in to see the VA doctor about your foot.

Sandy, sometimes I think all the doctor appointments and trips to the drug store have taken over our social life.  Hope you enjoyed your morning outing.

Just getting around to say Good Morning.  And, I see that it is nearly noon time.

I did sleep better, but was up early to take the trash across the hall to the trash room.  And, then since it is a cloudy, dreary, misty morning, I went back to bed and sleep until around 10.  So, I have had some breakfast and checking some sites here.

Hope everyone will have a great Wednesday  !

Good day all.  We are still working on some electronic issues here in Tucson.  Daytime heat is in the 90's and that is a bit overwhelming for both of us so we plan our time accordingly.

Jenny:  I read about the California area of Hearldsburg (sp) and the fires.  So glad your son moved away.  It is beautiful county but the Santa Ana winds create fire problems.  I hope you did not have any tree damage.

there are so many set-up issues to be dealt with when we take these winter moves - and my brain is not quite ready so this has been slower to  adjust.  This too shall pass!

It is really nice to see some of the regulars returning and posting a little news.

A good Wednesday HELLO to all.

We enjoyed our drive home from Vail yesterday.  Not much evidence of the snow storm that we had.  We did have one tree in our yard that did not fair too well....three big branches were dangling, but we were very thankful to see the tree in our front yard was just fine.  Email from the HOA said there were many branches broken and the clean up could take as much as a week.

CAROL, once again we missed getting together with you and Don.  Happy for you to be back in Tucson to enjoy the warmer winter.  I remember well getting things up and running in the other location when we were snow birds.  It just takes time.  The hard freeze took toll on all of the beautiful yard plants.  😪  I am NOT ready to have winter😤

Stories continue from our friends in Sonoma County. We just feel so bad for them as everything is gone....even the fireproof safe and all the contents are gone....money, jewelry and important documents.  Guns in a gun safe! Etc.  our dear friend said she at least had the clothing on her back....one lady was in Target shopping with her bathrobe and slippers.  They had minutes to get out....no warnings at all, just woke up to embers flying past their bedroom window.....they were out in less than 7minutes!

LARRY, they say the cataract removal is an easy surgery, and I certanly wish you the best on both of them.

It is much later....many interruptions, so I had best get this posted RIGHT NOW.

ENJOY the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND.

JENNY

GLORIA, I thank you for sharing your two oldie stories with us.  They are very true.

JOAN, bless your boy for bringing you breakfast.....

My computer has been misbehaving. I have been having problems with Jacquie Lawson card for weeks now. And there is no way I can contact them by phone as far as I know. I leaves me frustrated, angry, disappointed, and after years of paying for the service.

I did have a very good morning. My Gary did the Bible class today. Of course I am biased, but he is a great speaker and teacher. Keeps me on the edge of the pew.

Do you ever get the feeling that you have taken on too much and sort of painted yourself into a corner ? It is not a good feeling. Each morning I plan to finish at least one thing I have started. From where I am sitting, I find seven things waiting to be taken care of...mostly paper work....oh....I just noticed another one....I feel I would like to put on my pajamas, close the blinds, take some sleeping pills, (which I don't have) , cover up my head and let the world go on turning while I take a time-out. And putting all that in print makes me realize what a hypocrite I am. So very much to be thankful for, so many of you loving, caring, God loving,  wise people out there. So I will cease moaning, and go tackle one of those waiting Piles of "things to do".

Jenny, glad to see you got home OK, and not as much tree damage you thought you would have.

Weird stuff is still happening with my computer, so if I don't get in, you will know why. I'll call for my girl helper tomorrow and see if she can straighten things out. I may have to turn to my lap top....which is hard to see the print. Maybe she can fix that up too. Whatever, time to fix my left-overs for supper. Love and Hugs dear hearts. June

I met a lady today that you would all be proud to call a friend.  She came through my line and I thought she was probably about my age (82).  We chatted as I checked her out and she told me her husband had passed away about 3 years ago and she sometimes gets so lonely for someone to talk to.  She said she wished we lived near each other so we could share a cup of coffee and a chat now and then.  Then she told me she's 92 years old and still living alone and taking care of her own needs.  I swear, I would never have thought she was 92.  She still drives herself, does her own cooking and cleaning and cares for her home.  And the only thing she admitted to suffering was a touch of lonliness.  I should be so lucky!  I won't forget her very soon.

And I'm going to say my Good night now so I don't forget it later like I did last night.

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

June, I am another with so many things piled up to do that I can't imagine ever getting everything done at once.... by the time I take on a couple jobs there is a trail behind me starting to build up again.  I need to get rid of "stuff"..... discouraging but we can't give up!

Jane, I met a woman like that in the store one day, not that old but that lonely.  After getting home I was sorry I didn't give her my phone number to call sometime, when she wanted to talk.... but I didn't.  (((hugs to you)))

I finally called my cousin today to ask permission to post his analogy of "SAD".... he is a retired journalist & does have a degree so not surprising when he produces something that hit home like this piece.  Mind you, I read it after spending a few days missing old school friends & so many family members my home town seemed empty.  I know my cousin wrote it after losing his wife in a freak accident, he was devastated and put into words how he felt.  When I asked if I could post it because "we had all lost so many loved ones I thought everyone could relate".  He said he would be honored.  Hope y'all know what axle grease is like.........
********

Sad Sticks Like Axle Grease...   by John Oidtman

Sad sticks like axel grease. It wakes you in the night. Sad is there in a photograph or a recipe for beef stew. Sad is in the front seat of the car--you check your passenger not there. It's on the other side of the bed or in the empty chair at the table.

Sad can leave for a while and reappear in a slow rain or the long-ago sound of a songbird. You find ways to brush it aside for a time--friends or family visit, projects busy your mind and your hands.

Sad rides back on a sound from years past, a vision, a smell or a dream. You try to once again figure it out, to get on with life, to justify or make sense of the hole in your existence.

There should be something to fill the void. You wonder if you should work extra hard or not at all. Should you read a book, watch TV, or clean the house. It doesn't seem to matter. Sad is stuck to you like axle grease.

In the end you know there will never be another--such a special, beautiful, caring soul to fill the sad and make it go away.
That's what makes it all so sad.

Tisie, your cousin is ever so right.  Now, I wish he could write about "little secret smiles" that those who have passed on gives us.  And even make us laugh out loud when your memory is tickled about some long forgotten memory.  I once told someone who had just lost his father that his lonesomeness and grief would eventually pass and be replaced by his great memories of times past.   Of course "sad' will always have its place there in your memories.  I guess what I am saying is that sad will always be there but happy thoughts will eventually push sad to the side and in a side passage of your mind.  But, you know what, you and everyone of us know all that I have said.  Because we have all lost one or more of someone very close.

Well once again it is the close of another day.  Just to complete my day I got my property taxes in the mail.  Now that is SAD especially when you know how your tax dollars are being spent.  You know, like, the police having to guard a statute of Columbus in one of our local parks.

Good nite Everyone, God Bless and sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone...

Temp is right on the 0° this morning. A day of playing catch up here, dust bunnies corralled, laundry folded and if the gazebo cover is dry enough taken down and put away for another year.

Shirley, thoroughly enjoyed the Axle Grease, how true that is!

Gloria, enjoyed Ode To Old Age and can relate to it. Many times I have gone down stairs to get something only to come up empty handed,so back down I go again. I think it is Gods way of giving me exercise!!

Jane ,what a delight to have that lady go through your line.Maybe next time she shops she will look for you?

Better scoot ..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm late coming in this morning.  We slept in a bit (until 630 this morning) and then we waited out the doggies pills on the sofa.  I slept pretty soundly for another 45 minutes and now we've had breakfast and I'm having coffee while I visit with friends.

I could use a few extra prayers tomorrow morning for my SIL Craig.  He's having bowel surgery.  I've already asked for a skillful surgeon and a speedy recovery.  I think my daughter will have her hands full.  I suspect he's not going to be an easy patient.  Like most men, he doesn't like being sick or dependent.

Amy, I hope you're right about the nice lady looking me up because I regret not having exchanged phone numbers.  If I hadn't been so busy I'd hzve thought of thate before but I had a line.

The only thing on my agenda today is to get my desk cleaned off.  I wonder where it is?  I bet it's over there under that pile of papers!  I'm determined!  I'll find it wherever it is!

The rain has stopped but it's not supposed to get above 60 today.  That's not as cold as your temp, Amy and I sure hope you're quoting in Celsius. 0º F. would be way too cold!

I wish you all a good day. Take it and make it your own.

Hi Everyone.  This morning is starting out to be foggy and muggy and we will once again get into the high 80's that afternoon.  We have to get around fairly early this morning as Pat has a doctor's appointment that is about 30 minutes drive from the house and we will need to leave a little after nine this morning.  That should pretty much be it for the day.  I won't be going to coffee nor to the Wisdom group, although it we get home early enough I might go downtown to the Wisdom group.

We had a very delicious meal at church last evening as we had Southern Fried Chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad and a nice dessert.  After dinner Scott came out and spent the evening with us.  While here he put in a couple of light bulbs and changed the furnace filter and we had a lot of good visiting.

Joy, nice to be able to sleep in on occasion.  Since Pat is now fixing her own breakfast I don't necessarily have to be the first one up but still usually am up before her.  Last night she had to spend most of the night in her easy chair as her head was so stopped up she couldn't get comfortable laying down.

Carol, do you use a swamp cooler for your day time cooling or do you have an air conditioner?  I hope things are soon in order down your way so you can relax and enjoy each day.

Jenny, does your HOA take care of the broken branches?  It doesn't sounds like some of the fireproof safes were very fireproof.  Those fires are certainly a terrible disaster.  I saw a headline yesterday that now more than 3500 structures have been burnt and that number is probably higher today.

June, the Jacquie Lawson company is British if I recall correctly.  We like the site and have had an annual subscription for two or three years.  We just forget to use it very often.  Do they not respond to your emails?  I would think there should be a way to reset your password as almost all websites have that capability anymore.  I see Gloria has indicated the same as to the location of the company.

Jane, it is so sad when someone suffers from loneliness.  I take it she doesn't live in your area.

Shirley, thanks for sharing that piece by your cousin.  He certainly captured the feeling of loneliness that can overcome us at a moments notice.

Hal, you are so right in that we do ourselves great harm when we dwell in sadness for extended periods of time. Those tax bills seem to come around often.  After living in South Carolina close to three years I finally got notice that my homestead exemption had taken effect and had reduced my property taxes by almost $200.  That will help offset the upcoming increase in health insurance premiums.  That must really be a boring job for a policeman to have to guard a statue.  Tolerance to another viewpoint seems to be a diminishing thing in our society.

Amy, those dust bunnies can really get a head start on us at times.  I hope you are able to get your gazebo cover put away before bad weather hits your area.

Lloyd, I liked your comments to June.

Jane, sure hope the surgery for your SIL goes well. I don't think men do pain and suffering very well.  :)  Hope you can have a restful day.

Good morning everyone,  53° to start the day and it was a good sleeping night, no AC running.  If this keeps up I might get the AC put away and get some space added to this room. Still rather have a window one than a portable one.

HAL  California had a lot of rain earler this year and that meant a lot of brush growing. I feel bad for all those people who lost every thing they owned and all the lives lost.

JOAN  so good seeing you the last few mornings, like old times. I have recieved a few good emails lately that I could share here. Not like the goodies you always found but better than nothing? This morning I was awakened by the landscapers here doing their job. Seems like they always start under my windows at 7am sharp.

LLOYD  hope you got help with your foot.

LARRY  my grandson cannot figure out what is wrong with this PC but I just do not enjoy using it. He did mention reformatting it but the thought of having to install evrything again is more than I can face these days. Lost track of how many times I have done that with this machine.

Just heard on the news that the first lawsuit against the Manadaly hotel in Los Vegas has been filed. Bound to happen I guess. This country has become too sue happy IMHO. Not enough security and someone should have seen the shooter bringing all those guns in and seen him setting up cameras in the hallway.

JENNY  you and I differ because I look forward to winter.  SHIRLEY and I both do not care for summer.

JUNE  like you I have been having problems with the Jacquie Lawson cards. I do not think I will join again but I do so love all their creations. I have emailed them so many times and get replies to do this or that but nothing helps. I would not want to pay for a phone call to England.

GLORIA de  right, JL is in England. They must have changed something there or they have gotten too big and do not know how to handle it.

JANE  there are several ladies here in their 90's and are so lively, a still drive and go out almost every day.

SHIRLEY  your cousin said it all about Sad. Thanks for posting it.

HAL  having problems with Columbus statues in Texas, too? After all these years just one more thing for jerks to riot about.

AMY  for me now it is going down in the elevator and remembering something and coming back up. Maybe I like going up and down in that little box of an elevator?

JANE  prayers for Craig for a successful surgery. May God guide the surgeon's hands.

Good morning. :)  Here on the Oregon coast we're are supposed to have rain today.  Sure wish I could send some to California.

I'm another one who likes Fall and Winter.  I've always liked the sound of rain and watching it on the windows.  My sisters fights depression in the winter, so did my mom, so I used to feel guilty about enjoying it so much.  SAD is real, but I'm glad it doesn't effect me.

Jane, that special woman you met sounds absolutely beautiful.  I would hope I can still be as independent as I am now when I'm 92.  I have family near, so I don't get lonely.  I'm such an introvert, anyway, so being alone as never bothered me, as long as I have things to do.  Of course, I do miss having my canine kiddos, but I won't have another pet.

speaking of clutter and getting rid of things.  I did that awhile back....for about a week I daily found things to let go of. Some things I'd held on to for years and years....just in case....and I'd forgotten why I ever kept it in the first place. Anyway...after letting a lot go...I can't even remember what it was, and I've certainly never needed it since.  I think I'll do it again.   My initial reason was that I'd hate for the kids to have to go through all this stuff when I'm gone.  I don't want it.  They won't want it.  Why keep it?  I think this winter would be a good  time to do it again.

Have a blessed day, everyone.

Good Morning Everyone from
the sunny but cooler rocky coast of Maine!

Hi Nita,  good to see you are posting.
I know how you feel about loving animals but
choosing not to have them again.

Animals take a lot of care and work.    And so don't
we as we get older.   I am always trying to
get my apartment organized and freed up from the
clutter.      Today just happens to be the day that
the inspectors come to check out our apartments.

Not everyone,  but  a few that they choose to
check up on.   I am ready for them, as usual.

I wish everyone a good day.

Good morning Everyfriend.  I hardly slept last night, so my activity today will be limited.  Linda and Ed have much more damage than the originally thought - around 50 thousand dollars according to a contractor.  That is what happens when you live on the water.  Joe and Kate were finally able to access their beach house at Dauphin yesterday - only the driveway washed out.  In past tears they have had to completely rebuild if you remember.

Later getting in here today.

The morning took me longer to get moving.  Had a bunch of junk mail to go through and either shred or black out my name and address.  Had to order some new checks and found out I had to do it either over the phone or through the bank's online ordering.  It went pretty smooth until it came up that I would have to pay $28.14 for postage.  Just as I was about to cancel the order, that amount was for expedited mailing.  I don't need them for a while, so I sure didn't want to pay that kind of money for postage.  After checking down the page,  there was another option for standard delivery that was no charge.  It also came up where they was a charge for the checks, and I have never had to pay for my checks before.  When the final page came up,  they had deducted the charge and I wound up not owing anything.   I am glad that I kept scrolling down the page before I clicked on the order box,  Certainly could wind up being very confusing to some people. It was a lot easier when they just included a re-order slip in with checks and all I had to do was take it to the bank.  So many companies just cannot keep things simple.

it is just so nice to see messages from Joan, now.  It just seems like the old times now, with her checking in each day.  Sorry that the hurricane caused much more damage than was thought at first.  But, as she said,  that is the perils of living on the water.

The devastation from all those fires in California is just so heartbreaking.  It just must be such a terrible feeling when they finally realize the people have lost everything.  Jenny mentioned about her friends and then the lady that was shopping still in her bathrobe and slippers.  But, some of the people I heard  interviewed on TV were determine that they would rebuild.  So sad for the people affected and for the fireman trying to put out the fires.

With all the devastation that has been happening over the past few months......hurricanes and the fires....  it seems like "somebody" is really trying to "tell us something". Thoughts and prayers go out to all who are affected.

It is a dreary, cloudy misty day here and the temperature sure has gone down.  I think out summer temperatures have probably  began to go away.  I know there are a lot of you that like the cold, but I sure am not looking forward to it. But, will have to deal with it when it does come.

Hope every friend will have a nice rest of the afternoon and a good evening.

Joy

Hi everyone!  Been a kinda busy day.  I didn't sleep well last night and then up early for bible study and mens breakfast and then a small task to handle and then back to my house.  Visions of a quite afternoon, having the house to myself, wife and daughter out shopping.  Instead a relative dropped by to visit and finally  they left so on the couch I flopped and of course the phone started its thing.  I finally got a very small nap in and after wife came home we went out to eat at the Texas Road House, nice ribs for both my wife and I.  And I picked up the tab since the kids are always doing something nice for us.

Now I am "fixing" to climb into bed and put me to sleep.

Joanie, I second all those that say it is so nice to have you back, it really is.

Nite, nite; sweet dreams and God bless.

Good morning everyone...

Dogs decided that I should get up...their decision..not mine! I can see a cat nap in my future today.

Yesterday was productive, managed to put away all the patio furniture, take the gazebo down and I did get some sewing in. Also fixed my hot tub, to have the repair man come out is pricey,so I phoned and told Mike he is going to talk me through it. Thankfully it was just a fuse that needed replaced and I now know where they are and how to replace them saving me 100.00 +

Not sure what today will bring, still need to put the run on some dust bunnies.Plus my desk is in dire need of a cleaning!

Lloyd, hope you got your flat fixed, did you pick up a nail in your tire?

Sandy, our pets come first, they have us well trained. :smitten:

Joy ,glad you kept on reading and now have your checks at no extra cost!!

Nita, I too love the rain, sound, smell and one can almost hear the dry ground sigh with delight.

Gloria, you have more patience than I would have with that computer. HP should be ashamed at what they have put you through with it. Going to make apple crisp with the remaining apples today, vanilla ice cream should go well with it for supper.

Larry, your church dinner sounds lovely. Hope your toes have healed for you.

Hal,someone said to me that our dogs are spoiled, told them no,just well loved the way they should be. But they make me mutter when they get me up before my time  :2funny:

Joan, happy to see you getting stronger each day, slow and steady wins the race here.

Jane ,yes that was C not F it is 10C here this morning. I am sitting on the fence here about my geraniums.  I want to try and keep them over, in the past I haven't had much luck but maybe this time. They are still blooming and it is a shame to see them get killed by the frost. Prayers for Craig this morning that all goes well and a speedy recovery on his part.Prayers for you also as I know you must be worried also.

June, hope you had a restful sleep last night, ready to meet the day with vim and vigor :)

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  Thank you, Amy for the prayers for Craig and for me, too.  You're right!  I'm am worrying about him.  But he's a good guy and God will be with him!

I've developed a new routine for the days I need to work.  When the doggies come in and have their pill and we go into wait time, I take my shower and make the bed and then I come to the computer.  It worked well on Tuesday and Wednesday and today's another day.

They're coming up to get my grandniece from college this afternoon and my sister is riding shotgun with my niece.  They're coming a bit early so we can exchange hugs.  I love it with they do that for the old ladies.  It will only be a short visit but it sure beats nothing!

Lloyd, do you use pear butter like a spread or is it more like applesauce?  I don't think I've ever had that.  You and Nancy sure won't starve when the snow flies!

I wish you all a good day and I'll let you know the results when I hear from Cathy about Craig's procedure.

JaneS Kinda sorta both. we cook it down until it gets thick enough to heap up on a spoon,at least after it is cool. we like to make toast and use real butter spread it while the toast is hot so it will melt in good then put a good layer of the pear butter on it.hope if this makes your taste buds water you have something close to fix them. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone, first thing I did this morning was turn the thermostat up, got down to 32° and cars have frost on them.About time we start having autumn weather, love it. Just realized that today is a Friday the 13th. Glad I am not supersticious.

NITA  I have always loved snow and not that I no longer have to drive in it or shovel it I still love it and can sit in a window and watch the flakes coming down. I got rid of many things when I moved here and have tried going through boxes of pictures to get rid of some I know my  kids will not want but it is hard to throw them away for me, all have good memories attached to them.

JOAN  sorry Linda and ED had that much damage to their home but glad Joe only had the driveway washed away. I do remember when they had to rebuild on Dauphin. Hope you can get a restful nap later.

LLOYD hope the tire holds up till you can drive into town to get it fixed.

JOY  sound like a lot of postage for your checks. I will have to order some soon, too. I saw where some fighting those fires lost their own homes while they were elsewhere.

HAL  hope today is a quiet one for you.

AMY  I think that no matter how many times we clean our desks the next day every thing is a mess again. I still have a bag of apples and think I will make more applesauce. Easiest thing I can think of. Believe me, I no longer enjoy my computer but right now I cannot afford to replace it. As long as  can get here to the SS, check my email and Skype with my daughter every day I am almost content.

JANE  prayers for Craig today.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well I got a decent nights sleep, thank you God.  And really wanted to lay in a little longer but my old nose decided it needed to start running and get stuffy.  If it isn't one thing it is another, guess I just need something to gripe about.

Lloyd did you get the tire fixed?  I was trying to think if I even had pear butter, lots of apple butter growing up but not for years.

Not much going on here today.  I have to do a little research on a defensive driving school course so I can get my ticket dismissed, HA, that's a joke, for all the fees they charge it is not cheap, but cheaper than the ticket.

Amy, about the Geraniums.  I know we don't get anywhere close to the cold you do, but i used to cover mine on frosty nights and they would do just fine and bloom their hearts out.  a little tip, real cold nights and days, in you case, put christmas lights on them, not LED but regular lights and turn them on and in most cases it will keep them above freezing.  a friend of mine used to keep his tomato plants going in the winter using the christmas lights.  One of our local radio experts on flowers and gardens claims spraying plants with sea weed helps to raise teir freezing point.  I have never tried it.  But  Geraniums will live forever here if protected.

Gloria, go to this site and look it over, https://www.hellotech.com/geek-squad-isnt-best?phone=18009952131&gclid=CPL00v3Q7dYCFQGraQod3RgOaA (https://www.hellotech.com/geek-squad-isnt-best?phone=18009952131&gclid=CPL00v3Q7dYCFQGraQod3RgOaA)
You can subscribe to it for 7 bucks a month and they will access your computer remotely and fix it for you.  Or for more money, naturally, they will send a tech to you for so many visits a year plus the remote access.  I don't get paid by these folks, but I do subscribe, the 7 bucks a month, and they have worked on my computer several times as well as help me install a new printer. Go to the website and talk to them they have a chat line.  They also have one time service but it is pretty pricey.

I go to get off here.

Gloria, I just checked prices:

https://www.hellotech.com/plans (https://www.hellotech.com/plans)

and looks like they have gone up 2 bucks on their service.  But still, I think, a bargain.

Good morning Everyfriend.  Joe and Finlay were here to visit late yesterday afternoon.   After they left, during supper, Ed came with treats for snacking and stayed until about 7 p.m..  Linda had a 14 hour work day - from home - so was not able to come.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we are in for a cloudy but cooler day with it only to get up to the low 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a pretty productive day for us.  Pat had her doctor's appointment.  Then on the way home she wanted to go to a particular department store called Roses for something and while she was shopping I went to the Bi-Lo grocery in the same shopping center and bought some groceries we needed.  It was around 1 pm before we got home and after a quick lunch I rested.  Then last evening at 6 pm we had a Homeowner's Association meeting for about an hour.  It was very informative and was glad I went.  We have an Association Management Company so our board of directors makes decisions but the lady who we hire to do the actual work does the rest.  We actually had several people volunteer to serve on the board.  Following the meeting I had to make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up some medications for Pat and also to get some fire ant killer as we have some in our back yard and I don't want them to spread.  I got home and ate supper and before long was in bed.  I had a very good nights sleep and now looking forward to a quiet day at home as we plan to stay home all day.  This evening I want to watch the Clemson/Syracuse football game and fortunately it starts at 7 am so should be able to stay awake to watch the entire game.

Gloria, I seem to have solved the problem I was having with my desktop after I went through and uninstalled a number of programs and did more maintenance and updating.  It was fine yesterday and seems to be fine today.  I guess I fail to see how a hotel can be responsible for the terrible things that happened there in Las Vegas.  However, I certainly don't have the facts that may exist that could justify law cases.  I hadn't thought about this being Friday the 13th until I read your posting this morning. I liked the humor you shared.

Nita, glad you are not affected with SAD as your mother and sister have been.  I have no trouble in keeping myself as busy as I want to be.  However, I do like being around other people.  I think I got that from my mother.  Like you I have things I don't even remember I have so certainly won't miss them.  In fact, I often find that when I look for things I do remember having I can't locate them.

Sandy, I remember over the years how often you have spoken of the de-cluttering process you often go through.  The next time I read you are doing it I wonder how you have managed to reacquire enough stuff to have to do the process again.  :)  Since you were ready for the inspection your apartment was probably not one of the ones chosen to be inspected.

Joan, that is a lot of damage that Linda and Ed experienced.  Was this damage to their main home or a vacation property.  Glad that Joe and Kate didn't sustain damage to their property.

Lloyd, hope that tire stayed up until you could get to where it could be fixed.  I hope the medication helps your foot problem.  Every time you write about your canning of things brings back such good memories of the many meals at our family table as I was growing up.

Joy, just how many checks were you ordering if the postage was going to be that high.  Glad to see you found standard postage would be no charge.

Hal, sometimes our nice quiet days don't turn out as planned.  I guess that is what keeps life interesting.  I hope you were able to get a good nights sleep last night.

Amy, glad you accomplished what you set out to do yesterday as well as save yourself money by replacing the fuse.  I hope your dust bunnies didn't multiply too much during the night. Maybe you won't be so busy today after all you accomplished yesterday.  My toes are doing OK.  I have decided today to leave the bandage off and let my toes get some air as won't wear socks.  I put my special shoes that the foot doctor sent me home in back on today to protect my toes and so I don't have to walk barefoot.  I finished up the antibiotic yesterday morning so hopefully will begin to feel a bit more energetic than the last few days.

Jane, it isn't going to help Craig one iota by your worrying about him.  You know that God is going to look after him and it sounds like he has a very positive attitude that will serve him well as he heals from the surgery.

Joan, when someone works from home as Linda did it isn't easy to get away from work as the office doesn't shut down as a regular office most often does.

Amy, my climate is much like yours and I have wintered geraniums for many years.  Long ago I tried hanging them upside down in a grocery sack and that worked for some, but I had to replant them in the Spring.  What I've done recently is bring them inside to be with my house plants.  They don't always look too good during the winter, but come Spring, blossoms appear along with more foliage.  I have one I'm going to bring in Saturday.  Actually, I put all of my houseplants outside about a month ago.  We had a nice rain earlier this week so now I can bring them inside.

Now that I can talk, I don't know what to say.  :2funny: We are celebrating our Centenarians today. We have eight of them..seven ladies and one man. I personally know three of the ladies. Two of the ladies use rollators as I do, and one uses an electric cart, altho she can walk a bit. She is also an artist and makes greeting cards to sell. Very inspiring ladies.

Joan/Bis, I called downstairs for help, but my girl hasn't arrived yet, but all is well."It" even affected my lap top. Miracles never cease. You my girl are another one, it makes me SO happy to see your green message pop up. Tell Tom I feel he is a very special son.....you and are both blessed Bis.

Another early morning here.......dog wanted out and now I am up to stay. No hanging laundry out unless the weather clears up some.

Larry, loved the video and I sent it on to my sewing friends to look at. Amazing young man he is!

Lloyd, all the hard work of doing pears down will taste even better come winter.

Jane, how is your SIL?

Mary Ann, thank you, I just may try that. I have done the one with putting them in a bag but no luck. I have 4 pots of them and they have lots of blooms on them yet!

Better get a move on.....

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  The good news is that Craig is home.  The bad news is that they did not do the procedure due to a problem in his blood.  I think I might have misled you to the wrong problem.  This was a heart problem and because his blood was not the right consistency they put him on blood thinners and sent him home.  This is what my daughter was hoping they would not do because she's seen what the blood thinners have done to some of her clients at the Agency on Aging..  I haven't had a chance to talk to them yet because they were both tired and talked out with their two kids and Craig's twin sister.  I'll see Cathy today or tomorrow as usual and I'll get the full story.  For now, all's well!

I slept better last night than I hzve in z long time!  Today is going to be a good one.  Todzy znd tomorrow are supposed to be warmer than this past week so I'll take that and enjoy it.

We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies pills znd we hzve about 10 minutes to go.  I wish you all a good day, full of whaterver you wish for.  Take it and make it yours.

Amy, thanks for asking about Craig.  The rest of you...thanks for the prayers.

we have I think 24 quarts of pairs canned and think same # of pints of pairbutter. have about one bushel of them left to work up. boy Picking was the easy part. but will taste good this winter and good Christmas presents. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning everyone, looks like a warm day again with possible showers.

HAL  did you get a ticket for speeding or get in an accident? Did I miss a post about it? I will check that link. My grandson never has the time to really check out what is the problem with this thing. Heck even HP did nothing the 2 times it went back to them. Thank you.

JOAN  makes me happy to know your family visits you often. My older son was here yesterday and brought me more apples that he and mu DIL picked a few hours earlier and a container of applesauce he made. Second son will be here tomorrow and of course I chat with my daughter every day.  I am happy they visit as often as they do.

LARRY  I checked the control panel and checked what is installed, especially by date and found nothing there I did not recognize or install myself. My grandson did check for updates when he was here a few weeks ago. Wonderful youtube. Such a caring youngster is rare. Thanks.

LLOYD  Nancy and you will enoy all the canning come winter.

AMY  one thing I like about where I am living, very little dust and dust bunnies.

JANE  Hope the blood thinner helps Craig. Warmer here, too, but with rain.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, I got my recycle bin out and brought the paper in and coffee is made and the dog has been out to take care of business.  I glanced at the paper and it has the same old junk.  Local politician is in trouble over money, prostitues and corruption, they are fussing at Trump for cutting money off to instance companies, neglected to tell folks it wasn't authorized to begin with.

Gloria a week ago Sunday my wife had greeting and messed around here at the house until it was time she was suppose to be there and then she panicked and was "kinda" fussing at me to hurry up and I did and busted a stop sign, just three or four blocks from our house and the local Constable was in the area and gave me a ticket.  So I have to sign up for a defensive driving course or pay the fine, fine is 265.00 DDC is 117.00.  Politicians have discovered a great new source of revenue.  But it is my fault, I busted the stop sign, cant really blame anyone but myself.  Like I told the Constable, well we were running late and now I am going to be really late.  And we were.

Guess I will watch some college football today and that will be about it.

Janie I am not sure what your Daughter was saying about thinners.  They can cause internal bleeding, but nor aware of other problems.  I think it happens in folks with valve replacement.  At any rate I hope they fix the problem.  Also the new thinners are very expensive.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Hi Everyone.  It is an overcast morning with just a very light mist falling.  We will get to the mid-80's today.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning and then spending the rest of the day quietly with some college football games on the TV.  I did watch Clemson lose their football game to Syracuse last night.

Yesterday evening I spoke to one of my first cousins that just this week moved to Oregon to go into an assisted living facility where she could be about 5 minutes from where her daughter lives.  She told me that her two sisters lived in the Napa Valley and both had evacuate their homes due to the fires but she didn't know whether they had lost their homes or not.  She still has her home that is not in the fire area and both of the sisters had gone to stay at her home.  I had not realized that they lived in the Napa Valley.  I also have a first cousin that lives in Oakland, who is the brother of these three sisters, and am going to call him as it has been a long time since I talked to him and perhaps he will have a current status of things out there.  I have quite a few first cousins on my mother's side of the family but we are not close and seldom communicate.  A number of years ago I put together a family reunion that was held in Denver and all of the first cousins and a number of their children and grandchildren attended.  That was a one and done event as no one else was interested in taking on the responsibility.  We had a great time and think everyone enjoyed it.  I hadn't seen most of my first cousins in 50 years or more at that time.

I had to take a quick break from posting and go to the store for some chili beans.  Pat is making chili to freeze and donate for the bazaar along with a lemon pound cake. She was going to do the Aldi's shopping this morning but that would have done her in for the day and it was a quick trip for me and after my meeting will stop and do the Aldi's shopping on the way home.  I know where things are located and it only takes a few minutes.

Lloyd, glad your tire was fixable.  I think I will soon need new tires for my Hyundai as notice the tread is wearing down. A couple of days ago on the Weather Channel they showed that some severe weather could hit your area over the weekend.  I hope it is just rain and no damaging winds.  It sounds like you and Nancy have done enough canning for one week.

Mary Ann, Pat has a couple of house plants that she has had out on the patio most of the summer.  We used to have plenty of room for them in our little sun porch but that has become her quilting annex and her downstairs office area.  I am sure we will find a place for them.

June, that doesn't sounds like a problem with your computer and glad to see you are now able to post.  I have seen that same message on my iPad from time to time although I don't use the Safari browser.  There may have been a short problem with the Internet connection to this website. The fact that your laptop was also impacted by the problem is further indication it is not a computer problem with your computers.

Jane, hopefully Craig's blood will soon be thin enough that the needed surgery can be performed.

Gloria, the problem I was having with my desktop seems to have been solved when I did the removal of some programs and ran the various diagnostic programs.  You might try downloading a program called Advanced System Care and letting it scan your computer.  There is a free version that I have used and now for several years have used the paid version. It is a product of a company called IOBits and I use several of their programs.  If it doesn't help you can always just uninstall it.  You are lucky to get freshly picked apples as they are much better than those that have been held in cold storage.

Hal, how many hours is the defensive driving course?  That is an incentive as the fine would cost quite a bit more.

Good Saturday.

It started out as a dreary, misty day, but it looks like the sun is trying to show it's face.  It is supposed to be up in the 70's today and reach the 80's again tomorrow.  Summer just doesn't want to go away, yet.  Next week will be somewhat cooler.

I was missing yesterday, as it was kind of a lost day.  Didn't get much done,. and about 2 p.m. started to read on my Kindle, and fell asleep and didn't wake up until almost 5:30. I just couldn't believe I had napped that long.  And, I did sleep good last night.

Larry, you had asked me how many checks I had ordered for the postage to be so much.  I had only checked 1 box.   Luckily, I checked out the rest of the page and saw where I could use the standard rate and it was free shipping.  I don't know why some places have to make what used to be a simple process, more confusing.  I think the next time, I will just check with the bank, as I am sure they could provide the same service as they always did.

Jane, do hope your son-in-law will be able to have the procedure he needs, once they get the blood problem stabilized.  Always something to make you worry.

Amy, as usual, you were here early.  Hope your day clears up.

I am hoping to get to a local farm market today to use a gift certificate that my son gave me for Mother's Day.  I think he forgets when he gives me things like that,  that I really still need someway to get to the places.  I love getting gift certificates, but also need a way to get to use them.  This particular farm market will close up for the winter the end of October, so I am hoping that they still have some late produce.  I am sure there will be some nice fall flower arrangements that I could get.  Lots of pumpkins, also.

Joan,  so happy that you are feeling well enough to send your greetings each morning.  It is just so nice to see your messages.  I am so glad that you are close to your family now and they can visit more often.  I know your enjoyed the warm doughnuts.

Hope every friend will have a wonderful Saturday.

Joy

Good afternoon, it is cool and raining all day. I had to put the heat on yesterday.

I am getting around a little better, but very slowly, and still have to use the rollator. that still upset Taffy. It was a week yesterday, that I fell on the porch. My whole left side is black and blue, my hip is still very sore, but I am lucky it did not break.

Jane, I am sorry Craig could not have his procedure, as that is such a let down, when you get yourself all prepared. My husband and I had bad results with Coumadin I now take Plavix. Two weeks ago I did have a nose bleed that last 6 hours.

Gloria, how nice your son brought you apples. I still like Macs

Lloyd,  That was a lot of canning. I wish I was on your Christmas list.

Joy, I also liked it when you just walked into the bank and handed in your check order.

I'll let JUNE or SHIRLEY get the lights.  I'm going to make it an early night, too.  It's been a frustrating day here today.  I bid you all a pleasant and restful night.  And may God bless us, every one.

Okay, Jane.  I came in to check radar to see if the cats will want to be out or stay in tonight.... they seem to enjoy a night out but have lately seemed to be just as happy to stay inside.  I've had to close Tommy in the other end of the house because he objects to Tiger planting her body on my pillow (that I don't use) and while she will sleep sound except when I move, it irritates him that she took over old LaurenKat's place so he keeps pestering her.  They are 7 years old now so maybe ready to become house cats.  Callie claims the garage and will come in to eat with them and go back to the garage door when it's too hot, cold or rainy.  I have no idea how old she is but think she had a rough life before moving in here.  You have no idea (yes, bet you do) how bad I feel when going off leaving Callie standing in the driveway.  It is not an option to take her, can't be trusted to use the litterbox and would be afraid of the moving.  I have one neighbor that feeds her but they are gone a lot so it is a worry.

My thoughts for tonight & I am also weary so will turn out the lights now.  Had to reset clocks all over the house because the power went out just long enough to stop them.  Had quite a bit of thunder & lightning but not much rain.

It is late, but I will still leave a post.

It was a busy day....getting all the laundry caught up and ready for packing tomorrow.  We are flying to Boston to visit the family on Tuesday.  It was rather a last minute decision.

Today I made potato soup and boy did it hit the spot.

JANE, I do hope Craig can get his blood in order so they can continue with the surgery.  Maybe, he won’t have to have the surgery if the blood is thinner...that would be even better.

I hope the thunder storms will not keep you awake, LLOYD.

SHIRLEY, you are right, power outages are a pain when you have to reset all the clocks.

JOAN, I guess Linda was a welcomed visitor bringing donuts for all.  I am sure sorry they had so much water damage in their new home.

The situation continues to be concerning in N. California.  Dave’s old neighborhood is on alert to be ready to evacuate.  The winds have died down a bit so maybe it will be saved.

Our family friends have found a home to rent, so hope that will allow them to start to rebuild their new life.  I did read that FEMA is getting set up so they all will soon be able to get more help.  I am still just in shock of how bad the situation is.....then of course the continued concerns for the folks in Vegas and the flooding and devistation from all the hurricanes.

I wish you all a good night of rest.  I am having a hard time staying awake.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny
