Teacher: How do you spell 'crocodile'?

Glenn:    K-R-O-K-O-D-I-A-L

Teacher:  No, that is wrong

Glenn:    Maybe it is wrong, but you asked me how I spell it.

Question:

What five-letter word becomes shorter if you add two letters to it?

Shirley

:2funny: :2funny: :2funny: :2funny: :2funny: Good ones, Bubble!  Graphics are outstanding, thank you. Tom woke me up to go out, he pats the sliding door by my bed. Tiger went out before I went to sleep so was laying on the patio table watching over her domain.  I came to see if any storms around before I go back to sleep, none close.

so_P_bubble

what about answering the question, Shirley?

Amy

Good morning..

Bubble, you made my mind wake up too!! I love the graphics and I am going to say... LESS add ER  to LESSER???

Rain here, not sure if laundry will be hung out yet. Need to pick up meds and  then home to wipe down and label the jars to put away.

I hope everyone is feeling better, Joy is missing so I hope her ailments haven't gotten any worse.

Better scoot, I slept in again and now need to boogie.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!

FIRST....the word SHORT becomes SHORTER when you add  -er.  Is that too obvious?

I got up this morning feeling better than I have in more than a week.  And it rained some yesterday and nothing came through the ceiling into the bedroom.  However, there's still a bucket up there but I opted NOT to go up and check the bucket.

My granddaughter who lives in Texas arrived here sometime late last night for a short visit.  I hope I get close enough for a hug while she's here.

I wish you all a great day.  Grab it and make it your own!

Good morning everyone, first night  seems like months that I had no AC running. Just open window and fan  going in the bedroom. 55° to start. Wonderful. Tomorrow is supposed to be like today BUT on Monday, Labor Day the heat and humidity return. Yuck.

JANE  glad you are taking it easy for a change, taking care of yourself and your fur babies. The way you are always so busy it is about time for a break but not really the way you want to. Hope you are starting to feel better.

JUNE  cannot remember the last time I felt any energy. Just doing what I have to do and nothing else.

MARY ANN  about the only forum I check is the SS. No more checking out any of the others.

JANE  the firemen in this town are volunteers. As far as I know only those who drive the rescue ambulance get paid.

BUBBLE  thanks for starting the month off with a clean slate. Love your frog and his message. Answer--short?

AMY  less is only 4 letters, not 5.

JANE  short is what I came up with, too.

Have a good day. Time for me to get moving.

Short & shorter is what I thought, too..... but we know Bubble has a sadistic streak now & then & messes with our brains..... ;)

Got us moving, didn't ya, Bubble?

Jane, glad you are feeling better but sorry about the rain cummin' in.  Tell those guys the next time they come for one of them to pull a hose up & one guy inside until they can see where the leak is.  Really is hard to figure out unless they can see. In our case it was quite a route the water took to show up where it did inside.

We are waking up to extreme heat, was hot when I woke up the first time so went back to bed & actually, Fitbit is giving me stars & banners for getting a little over 7 hours all together.  Cats fed, Callie came to the back door & sat to wait for hers to be served in the garage.  These cats are pushing their luck with my good nature, yes they ar!   Happy Days Are Here Again....

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another hot and clear summer day getting into the mid-90's.  Finally last evening at dusk I turned on my sprinkler system and watered the lawn as it appears we won't be getting any rain this weekend and if we do all the better.  Only two things planned for today.  This morning I will go to my meeting and then this early evening we plan on going to Pizza Hut.  We have some bananas and oranges we got yesterday that we want to share with Scott and we likely wouldn't see him until next Wednesday.  When I picked up my grocery order yesterday at Walmart they gave me another gift bag and we will give Scott and the girls what is in it.  We finally put some items in the freezer yesterday and will continue to stock it.  I fixed us a salad meal last evening and it was good topped off with an ice cream sandwich.  The day has finally arrived to watch college football and I am ready.

Wednesday night told me about a service the Post Office offers where you can get an email every morning showing the front of each piece of mail you will be getting that day.  If you are interested just search of Informed Delivery USPS and you will the link to set up the service.  It is free.  It also tells you if a package is to be delivered.  I really like the service as will know whether there is anything in my mailbox that is worth braving the heat to get in the late afternoon when our mail usually arrives.

Shirley, I would have trouble operating on only 4 hours of sleep a night.  I just checked and yesterday was the second day in a row where I almost got 2,000 steps in, which is considered a mile. There are some unbelievable nature videos now available for us to watch on YouTube.  I will check yours out later this morning. I know that Pat can still drive but I really don't think it is too safe for her to do so.  Unfortunately, she often doesn't feel like even getting out of the house and isn't shopping in stores anymore.  That is one of the reasons I want to eat out at least a couple of times a week as that gets her out of the house.

Gloria, glad you finally got some cooler weather.  Like you I always dreaded the trip to and back from any doctor I had to see over in Atlanta.  It isn't a problem over here as everything is close and the traffic is mild or very light.  Also there is no payment for parking that was the case in Atlanta and at the main hospital in our county.  I know your daughter is artistic and bet she is doing some great things with the apps on her iPhone.  I don't tinker with the pictures I take but really don't take very many pictures and with this phone camera they are almost always good.  I suppose the people going to the beaches in your area will appreciate the heat on Monday as they have the last vacation day of the summer.

Jane, I see I misunderstood and could visualize you getting in your car and going places.  I am glad you are allowing your back to heal with a lot of rest.  I didn't mean to lecture you about not getting on the ladder and my comments were out of concern and knowing how unsteady I am even standing on a small step stool as my balance isn't very good anymore.  I probably would do the same thing as you did if my roof were leaking. It was so good to see your message this morning that you got up feeling better this morning.

June, you obviously need the extra rest and just glad you are not having any disabling pain.  I sure understand the days with no energy and had three of those the first of this week.  However, the last three have been good and I have felt like being active.

Carol, I am sure today will be at least one load of laundry.  Pat will get it started and I will try to do the rest to save her back.  My sister-in-law has sold things in a consignment shop and just yesterday bought a beautiful garment for $5 that had originally sold for $179 and she said it didn't like like it had been worn more than once or twice. I know you and your family will be glad to get the word that your grandson is safely back at college.

Mary Ann, I suppose we sometimes overprotect those we care about.  I am sure I do that with my wife and she lets me know when I have gone too far.  However, I get joy out of being able to help her.  Glad you listen to Tom.

Bubble, thanks for the new start for September.  That first graphic is very touching and says a lot without words.  I also liked your second one and unfortunately the saying probably has a lot of truth in it. It seems a lot of people don't want to accept responsibility for things. Glen in your first funny is obviously very logical in his thinking. The teacher didn't phrase the question very well.  I don't have a clue on the question and have never been good at those kinds of puzzles.

Amy, it sounds like you got the canning finished.

Amy

Jane , you are right, serves me right for not thinking it out . Actually the answer was in the question. I listened to the music yesterday, you know POP music :) I had thought I would do some salsa but will check out the supply first then decide.

Has anyone ate okra? Is it good? How do you cook it? I have been hearing about this okra and don't know how to prepare or cook it. Some say they put it in soups, have you?

Larry, I was going to get saucy and do tomatoes down but in checking I have enough to get through the winter, along with chili sauce and beets.

Gloria, I put the air back on, oh my is it humid!!  I have to go cut some brush down and then mow the lawn and I am so happy to have a/c!!!

Amy, we love okra deepfried.  It's also good sliced in rounds in vegetable soup.

My husband said his mother would boil it on the stove until it was a "slimy mess" as he put it, but they all ate it as anything "to fill the belly" in those days.

I cut in rounds and dip it in Milnot (evaporated milk) and then in corn meal until it is well coated and deep fry for two to three minutes until it's golden brown.

What a beautiful cathedral we have in Washington D.C.  I wish that I had seen the inside when I lived there for six months. We watched the funeral for Sen. Mc Cain - and I could do the laundry at the same time so that is good.

Bubble: Wishing you could come to the states - we would all love to meet and greet you.

Jane:  Getting your BP down was so important - great news.

June Drabek

Bubble, I would love to hear the story of the woman you picture today. She seems to be in mourning. Did you know her personally ? I love the jokes you posted..neat !!

Jane short is a four letter word. Bubble said to start with a five letter word.

What five-letter word becomes shorter if you add two letters to it?

Amy, have t  o tell you my story about okra. In 1939 we moved to Charleston,SC from NY, As a welcoming gesture, the neighbor  next door (who in later years became myMIL)  brought my mother okra. Well my mother boiled it about 20min. Gave one look at it and put it in the garbage, it was nothing but slime  Many year later I married that boy next door and I ended up frying okra, as he loved it. He was from Alabama. I never did learn to like it, I could always see my mother dumping it out.

First …...yayyy Jan e ,way to go on the BP!!! Do you think it was up because you were worried about the roof??

Thank you Mary, that does sound good deep fried!

Gloria de, thank you, that sounds like vegetable marrow that my Mom cooked.....gosh we hated that mush!! But, we did eat what was put in front of you...or you went without.

I am sitting here giggling, I am sure Bubble is doing the same.. June short is 5 letters...now just look at all the fun Bubble is having over that quiz!

I brought the laundry in, cut the brush that was growing wild  and I should go cut the grass. I have a feeling that will be done on another day or if I find the energy maybe later this evening.

 Good afternoon,

Okra!  IMO, the only way to eat it is breaded in cornmeal and deep fried!  Only ate it at someone else's house when I was growing up.  Learned to fry it after I married a Mississippi native.  My boys would eat it like popcorn.

Whatever pollen count was up this week really got to me on Thursday.  Sinus drainage made the back of my throat feel like it was on fire and I'll bet I've gone through 3 big boxes of Kleenex  :tissue:
Symptoms are almost gone today but I feel as if I've been run over by a truck.

Miss Ellen has had another  New York adventure!   Don't know how she found the web site but she applied and was hired to be an extra in one episode of the series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" that's on Amazon.  Also don't know what kind of scene or scenes she was in but she told her mother she had to wear a girdle and crinoline petticoats.  That girl can surely find interesting things to do!!!!

Amy, color me Red ! I am so embarrassed. I must have counted the word  short half a dozen times and came up with four letters. I think it is time for me to retire. [/

Hi, Mycheal !

I had a pretty nothing day, but it is going to be a very quiet weekend around here. Monday is a Holiday so our administrative offices will be closed. All else will be in normal operation.Weather-wise it was beautiful, and I spent lots of time just enjoying being in our gardens and exercising in the rocking benches.....forgot the name..duh! I am in for the night..supper at home....there is entertainment tonight, songs by a guest performer, but I prefer to relax and read. Oh.....the  rocking benches are gliders. more 'duh.

off to fix a light supper. Have a great evening.Hugs and Love and Prayers where needed. June

mycheal thanks I bet i will. I have been there before to a couple of there  great sales. have to watch it or will go broke there. bu have never been there on such personal level. my heart is at high speed beating, doubt i can fathem how great the Amish weeding will be. to bad they don't let pictures be taken of them selves. but I will not defy their beliefs. I am so proud they invite my wife and I to the weeding. we are good friends as that goes and do business together from time to time. I will do the best I can to tell how it goes. at the adult age they are I suspect they will talk in English. for the most part i think thy past 6 years of age speak English for the most part. have a great rest of the day.

JaneS

CAROL, I think you were the one who commented on THE NATIONAL CATHEDRAL.  I've been there too many times to count.  School kids in this area take trips to Washington and the Cathedral is one of the places they tour.  Also, as a Girl Scout leader for many years, I took troops to Washington for different events and as an Episcopalian, the Cathedral was usually one of the sights to see.  The Girl Scouts used to have a National Center near Washington so it was an easy (and inexpensive) trip to make.

When I first heard of the Cathedral (in my teens) it was called THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL IN THE DIOCESE AND CITY OF WASHINGTON.  It's a lot easier to think of it as THE NATIONAL CATHEDRAL.

I'm off to bed and when I get up, I'll decide about church.  If it had been today, I couldn't have gone but a day has made a big difference in how I feel.

I'd also like to ask everyone's prayers for my brother, Jim.  He's been admitted to the hospital again with what they thought was a stroke but have decided it's a major urinary tract infection.  With everything else he's dealing with, he doesn't need this.  It could make it impossible for him to do his home dialysis.  Please ask God to intercede on his behalf.

Good night, Everyfriend!  Sleep well, wake refreshed with God's blessing!

Janie, prayers have been said for your Jim. May he be healed easily and quickly. God be with you both.

For some reason I took myself downstairs to listen to the entertainment. George Rossi played tunes that got me up on me feet and off to the rear where I danced. Another resident that uses a walker like mine, got up and we danced together with our walkers keeping us on our feet. A young girl that works here came over and danced beside me and we three had ourselves a ball.

So now I am home and I will go to an early bed and book. Cheers everyone !!!! And Prayers where needed. God knows.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Denver

Good evening.  Thank you, Bubble, for our nice new home to enjoy with our friends.

JUNE, I am smilingly like crazy as I think of you dancing and enjoying yourself.  Good for you for for hint yourself to go and partake in the entertainment for the night.

JANE, I do hope you get to have a hug and a nice visit with your granddaughter.  I am happy for you that your bp is down and you are feeling better.  prays and good possitve thoughts for your “brother” Jim.

CALLIE, I am always happy to read that Miss Ellen has a new gig.  I hope she enjoys it.  A friend of mine has a son that has recently joined the cast of General Hospital.  I used to watch GH, One Life To Live and All My Children years and years ago.  I went to work and that was the end of watching “soppies”!  I swore to myself I did not ever want to get hooked on any f them again ever!  Well, I just had to watch GH to see Cameron, the name of my friends son on the show.  In just a couple of days, I got hooked and now I have to watch parts of it to see what is going on......the acting is a trouchous, not to mention the dumb story lines and yet.....here I am wanting to watch.

LLOYD, I was sorry to read about your accident In your van.....happy to read that will be driving your Amish friends to the wedding.  What fun.

SHIRLEY, I hope the heat breaks there soon....it has been a long hot and DRY summer for you.  The trees are starting to tur; quickly here, I am sorry to say.  They say it is partly due t9 the drought, but there is no doubt that there is a feel of fall in the air and a few high peaks have had snow already....you better get her quick!

CAROL, I have watched all of the services for John McCain.  The National Cathedral is indeed a beautiful structure and one that I remember well from our visit to our Nations Capitol.  I am sorry they did not cover the burial at Arlington, but I understand why they wanted it to be private.

I must say good night as I only have 5% of power left in my iPad.

Pleasant dreams to all.
