Good morning everyone..

Put a fire on this morning...feels good to get the chill out...yet by Fri the temp is to rise.
Yesterday was a quiet restful day and I even grabbed some zzz's! Today I have phone calls to make and set up appointments.

Larry, I didn't put in a lot of potatoes, maybe 7-8 hills just enough for a feed of fresh potatoes. I like the little ones washed and cooked with their skins on.

Gloria, I had plans on what I would like to do yesterday  brain worked but body told me to go lay down,so I did:)I have found myself slowing down this year, and I just take each day as it comes. What doesn't get done will happen another day....maybe :)

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend.  It's still raining!  That's Saturday night from around 11 pm, all day yesterday and all night last night!  But the good news is....MY ROOF ISN'T LEAKING!

AMY, about those things that don't get done...I tell my kids, "If I don't get it done, it means I'm saving it for you to do after I'm gone.  I know how much you like to help!"

I've developed the attitude that if I don't feel like doing it now and I don't get charged up for doing it later, it wasn't meant to be done!

As soon as the boinger goes and the dogs get fed, I'll see what my day brings besides going to work this afternoon.  Enjoy you4r day, Everyfriend!

JaneS good to see and glad your roof is not leaking. we have now had two night's and one day with out rein. when we went to Kalona Iowa we drove in rain every day and night. not a day or night with out rain. mostly easy so good for the gars.

Jane, I'm with you about wondering about two more decades, but I'll take what I am given.  My cardiologist in May told me to come back in a year.  That made me feel good and I hope I make that.  At your age, I was happily retired and driving yet.  I was about 90 when I quit driving because Tom was using my car, then I sold my car, so no more driving.  I'm astonished you are still working and I know if you were not, you'd still find plenty to do - if you had the money.

So, keep on keeping on - as long as you can and want.

Good morning everyone, bad enough we had 3 days of overcast and damp days now we are in for at least 3 days of rain. If the heat was on here I would turn it up just to get the dampness out. Oh well cannot  fight Mother Nature. Must be our Father telling us he is not happy with this world he created. Floods, droughts, fires, extreme heat terrible storms all over the world.

SHIRLEY  I seldom order anything and mu grandson only lives 3 miles from me and orders things for friends all the time. He always tells me if I need anything to let him know.

GLORIA de  Last night I put a blanket on the bed and slept good. This morning I have my warm winter robe on again.

JUNEE  so good seeing you. Like you I never thought I would live to the age of 87 with all the aches and pains that seem to go along with it. Glad you are getting used to your new home. After 4 years here I still miss having my own place where I could do what I wanted. Take care of yourself.

AMY  I am glad I have help  4 times a week to do what needs doing to keep this place clean because i cannot even sweep the floor or dust anymore.

LLOYD  glad so far I do not need hearing aids. Bad enough my glasses keep getting stronger.

Enjoy your day.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful, clear and soon to be another very warm day.  We do have a higher percentage chance of some showers this afternoon.  They were in our area yesterday afternoon but missed us completely.  South Carolina has declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the oncoming Hurricane.  Exactly where it will hit is still uncertain but it sounds like the coastal areas will certainly be impacted.  At this point we are not expecting any impact from it in our area here in the West of the State.

We enjoyed a nice hot day here yesterday (we have had 15 days in a row with it getting to 94 degrees or above).  Pat did go to Church with me and afterwards we stopped at Zaxby's and had a good lunch.  We tried something new, which was a sandwich with three large chicken tenders with a hot sauce and a creamy sauce on them.  Pat had French fries with hers and I had coleslaw.  It was a quiet afternoon of resting, then watching football and finally reading for a couple of hours.  My friend loaned he a fairly new John Grisham book called "The Testament", which is a real page-turner and I am more than half way through it and might finish it up today.  He is such a good story teller.  I sort of hate to see it end.  I also put out a container of Lobster Bisque for our evening meal but need to grind up some cheddar cheese later this morning and a couple of other tasks.  Yesterday morning AT&T put out door hangers saying they would be working in our neighborhood digging and upgrading facilities and installing something called "gigapower".

Gloria, nice to read you were getting some weather more to your liking.  I hate to admit it but I also don't have much strength in my hands anymore.  You might try using a pair of needle nose pliers to grasp the little blue plastic tab to remove your batteries from your mouse.  I have also used a very small screwdriver bit to dislodge stubborn batteries.

Shirley, we put our Prime membership in Pat's name (and did the same with the Costco Membership and it's Citi credit card) so that Pat could build a credit history if needed sometime in the future.  She added me to the Prime membership and I have my own account and order in my own name.  I had the same experience when we first got the Prime in  download a Prime book and ended up being charged.  I called them and they removed it on a one time basis.  If wanted to download a book now I would sign in as Pat but have never tried it. Amazon will gladly charge your credit card at the time of purchase.  I don't tie up any of my money in their gift cards although have received them for gifts in the past.  I can't see letting them use my money before I am ready to use it.  I did read this last week that Jeff Bezos, who founded Amazon, is now making something like $11 million dollars a day since the company became only the second trillion dollar company along with Apple.  We have always tried to be frugal but have decided we might as well spend what we want as we earned it (within reason). When my folks were considering their final wishes as to their estate they called both my sister and I and asked if we would prefer they split their estate with the grand kids.  My answer was no and I think my sister said the same.  They followed our recommendation and I am hopeful to be able to pass on a reasonable inheritance to our son as he is going to need it. I never felt my folks owned me anything after giving me a good upbringing and helping me get a good education but I had worked hard on the dairy farm for a long time before I left home. I wanted my folks to use their money for themselves but they had lived through the hard times and were pretty frugal. I also know that I have always tried hard to do what I felt was best at the time.

deAngel, we keep our house at 73 degrees day and night and never sleep with a window open.  I sleep under the same covers all seasons.  We have gotten little gift totes three times from the Walmart online grocery pickups.  Twice they have contained one of those little cartons of apple juice that the kids like.  I never could get it opened to put in the little straw and wondered how the small children were able to do it, but obviously they are.

Junee, it sounds like you are doing well and on your way to 100.  We have four ladies I know in our Church who are in their late 90's and one of them is over 100 and still comes to Church most Sundays.  Only in the last year has she started using a walker as she walks.  It is always nice to anticipate the start of Spring.  Things are beginning to look pretty drab here as we approach fall and winter.

Jane, if your daughter still have open slots for family on her account there wouldn't be a problem in adding you and you could benefit from the 2-day shipping.  You do have to watch the prices as often Walmart is now beating them on the same item.  They also change their prices often and they will go up and down in a few days time.  Pat is a careful shopper and keeps an eye on that.  I am not such a good shopper and am not patient so will often just go ahead and order my item from Amazon. It sounds like you might be on your way to being the oldest cashier for Walmart if you are around for a couple more decades.  (Just joking as I know you are looking forward to the day you can retire.)

Jenny, Carolina also won their football game yesterday as did Clemson and Georgia on Saturday.

Amy, glad you had a restful day yesterday  as you deserve it.  For some reason I pictured you having a bushel or two of potatoes.  As I was growing up we always had that in our garden and Dad would plow them up and we had to pick them up but they made good eating as they kept well in our ground cellar.

Lloyd, it sounds like you will have a very pleasant day there in Missouri.

Mary, I see you use the Prime as I do.

We shopped at the small store with bins of all sorts of things - called Sprouts.  They are in several states.  So, there are small containers here ready for the quilters to sample and of course, their favorite ice creams.  The wind is picking up today per usual afternoons - foothills are quite a bit cooler but still smokey.  Dreadful year and terrible loss of life on the western slope and beyond.  '

Sandy - predicting hurricanes can be tricky some years - I say get out of town if it even looks like it might come.  My folks remember (I was a toddler) when Boston was flooded and the National Guard pulled cars out of water.  Also, Don and I took the ferry one October over to Nova Scotia from Portland.  It was a wild ride and everyone grabbed any stable chair to sit - leftover waves from a hurricane to the south.

One of our sons drove to the high country to check on his cabin.  There was hail damage plus squirrels had tried to get in the house and eaten parts of a vent so there is another job.  The roof is a total loss to hail damage and only temporarily fixed by one grandson.  They need the pros to re-roof everything.  Winter is coming and in that part of the country, these things take a long and frustrating time.

I'm sort of "out of it". I did an ouchie on my right arm yesterday. Scraped my arm on a sharp object and it bled all over the place. Was taken down to our clinic where a good nurse taped the skin back together and put a big bandage on it.It was late afternoon when it happened, so I have been 'at home' since then. Have plenty of food on hand, and I can always order meals sent up if needed. I just don't feel too great, very short on balance so I have to watch every step I take. Not many posts lately, so I am praying that all of you are in good condition.

That storm on the east coast looks like a mean one, so we have more folks to pray for. Weather out here is the same...nice. I want some rain !!

Have a peaceful night dear friends, God watches over us.Thanks be to God !

Good morning everyone..

Rain during the night and the temp is rising back up again. I am off to the dentist this morning and not very happy about it either. My dentist retired I was told and will see a new one. We shall see how the appointment goes.

Larry, thank you for all your hard work in indexing all the recipes, that was not an easy job but you did it!!

June, oh my.. hope your ouchie heals fast for you!!!

I had better move it, as it takes and hour to get to the dentist and the way is under construction.

As Sandy said, stay safe everyone..

Enjoy your day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We've been up and out and the doggies got their pill.  Now we're waiting for the boinger and, more immediately, the coffee pot!

I wish everyone on the road safe travels; everyone near the storm, safe havens; everyone with illnesses (or ouchies) safe healing;  and anyone in need of God's blessings, may you have them in abundance.

I got a birthday card from my youngest daughter on the occasion of HER birthday.  She thanked me for providing her with a birthday and for being her "MOM" all those years.  She always does this on MY birthday but this is the first time she's done it on HER birthday.  I get tears in my eyes every time I think about it!  I often wonder what I ever did to deserve them.  Sometimes it seemed so hard to be MOM and sometimes life was just plan too busy to even think about it, but the rewards are well worth it!  I'm sure you all feel the rewards, too.  It's nice to be appreciated for "just doing our jobs" the best we know how.

It finally stopped raining here.  We had steady, non stop rain for almost 40 hours!  Creeks were filling up and flood warnings were out.  I think a lot of people are breathing easier today.  Now it's time to Grab this day and make it yours!  Do what you want with it.

Good morning everyone, still rain here and 62°. Last Friday they started power  washing the back of the building getting ready to paint. Of course with all this rain they cannot do much. The maintenance man said that on Friday when the men were up the staging or whatever the call that thing they have for the washing they discovered that some of the gutters are all rusted out. Of course the back of the building is the north side.

LARRY  the lobster bisque is something I have not had in years. I have a niece and her husband who had plans to vacation on the outer Banks like they do every year but looks like they will not go this year. Last night on the news they showed cars leaving with the forced evacuation. Glad I do not live near the coast, hurricanes seldom get this far inland but when they do it is bad. I have used needle nose pliers for years already for many things I do.

JUNE  sorry about your arm. Ordering your meals delivered to you is a good thing. Wish they had something like that here but they do not provide meals. Would love to send some of the rain we have been getting to the western states.

AMY  hope my dentist never retires, she is still pretty young and the best one I ever had.

JANE  one year my daughter sent me flowers and wished me a happy birth day on her birthday. She made sure they had birth day as 2 words and not one. Talk about crying when I got that. First thing I did was call her and we both were crying.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  What an evening we had last night.  There was a severe electrical storm and we had a little over two inches of rain and I don't think this had anything to do with the approaching Hurricane.  This morning is bright and sunny and we should get to 92 degrees this afternoon with the chance of more rain.

Pat wants to make a visit to our local Dollar Tree store this morning and perhaps we will eat our main meal out at noontime or mid-afternoon. Ruby Tuesday's is once again offering their great salad bar for $5 today, which is half its normal price.  A friend will be here to work with me for an hour this morning and the rest of my day is free.  I have only about 100 pages of the John Grisham book I am reading and another couple of hours to finish the audio book I am listening to, which has also been good.

Carol, we have a new Sprouts store that opened near us over in Augusta a few months ago.  We had shopped at one several times where we moved from.  They have nice produce and often have some good sales on produce but some of their other prices are rather steep.  I don't anticipate shopping at the one here.  Sorry to hear of the damage to your son's cabin.  It seems it is always something that needs to be done.  I hope he can get it reroofed before winter sets in.

June, sorry to read of your new injury as know these things take a long time to heal for you.  I hope you are feeling better today and have a good supply of books on hand.  Are you limited at how many you can take from your library there at one time?  Do you have to check them out or just take them and return them when done? I am concerned for Johann and Wendell that live in Myrtle Beach and their families living on the coast.  I hope they have a safe place to so and don't have to go to a shelter.  I hope we hear from her soon.

Amy, I hope your dental appointment goes well today and that you like your new dentist.  I didn't keep track of the number of hours it took to do the recipe indexes but it was quite a few over quite a few days.  I was happy to have the project completed and now it will be easy to add any new entries when needed.

Jane, what a nice gesture from your daughter to send you a birthday card on her birthday.  I don't think I have ever heard of anyone doing that before.  She obviously loves you very much and appreciates what a good mother you were to her as she was growing up.  I fear that your area is once again going to get a lot of rain from the outer bands of the Hurricane.  They are saying it is likely to stall when it comes inland and South Carolina is certainly anticipating a lot of flooding again.

Gloria, those rusted gutters will impact the profitability of your apartment building.  I wonder if that will be a markdown for the "witch"?  We enjoyed the lobster bisque and have one more container with another meal of it.  However, I am not sure we will buy it again as like some of the other soups better.  It doesn't appear this would be a good time to plan a trip to the outer banks as they expect they will be hit hard. I see you already were aware of how helpful those needle nose pliers can be.

Good morning.

It is hard to believe it has been 17 years since the terrible happenings of 2001. I wish we Americans could be as kind to each other today as we were back at that time after that horrible day.  The patriotism was so heart warming to see.  Now we do nothing but mud sling at everything.  So very sad.

We are enjoying our beautiful weather.  We broke a record yesterday for a high of the day.  It is to be warm and above average all week.

My thoughts and prayers are with those that are in Florence’s path.  This hurricane is a BIG one and will definitely do some sever damage.  There is also a big storm headed for Hawaii.

CAROL, I am sorry to read that your son had so much storm damage at his place in Estes.  We know the damage that the hail can cause.

JUNE, I am sorry to read about your new “boo-boo”!  Take it easy now and I hope you can be out and about again soon.

LARRY, I do know that Johann and Wendell are right on the coast, but could not think of anyone right off the top of my head.  We have some friends in the area as well that we know are in the process of getting out of there.  They seem to be doing a lot of good planning like making all interstates open to go away from the coast, to help ease the traffic.  We only had to run from one hurricane while at our place on the Florida Panhandle and the traffic was awful.  We do quite a bit of shopping at Sprouts but only fruit and veggies for the most part.  Some meat and dairy but never much else as it is more expensive.  We have a Whole Foods very close to us, but I rarely shop there as it is much too expensive for me.
I just saw your indexing of the recipes and it is fantastic....I know that had t9 be a job, but you sure did do it well.  Thank you!

JANE, that was very sweet of your daughter to send YOU a happy birth day card.  I often wish my DIL’s and friends a happy “birth” day.  My sons all call me on their and their siblings birthdays too.  I find it very sweet.

I wish you all a good Tuesday.

This hurricane looks so dangerous.l l I am thinking Johann and all her family are near the water in Myrtle Beach.  Hopefully, we will hear from her..

Jenny:  It is Grand Lake - but still you know how the hail gets so large in this state.  He is there right now and has appointments with several contractors but I have no idea when they are going to actually fix the problems.

Quilting is at my house tonight.  My project is on hold --- there are too many things going on in this family.

June:  I am glad that you had the pro nurse put a bandage on your arm.  It certainly isn't fun having purple marks every time there is a little bump.

Denver

Oh CAROL, I knew his place is at Grand Lake....not sure why I put Estes!  Me cRaZy brain!  Guess I can’t even blame this one on our spellchecker function! 🤪🤩🤣  have fun with your quilting group tonight.

We are getting storm alerts on our phones, but it doesn’t look like any storms are brewing and I sure do not remember them saying anything about one on the weather report!

We are going to go sit with the grands tonight as their dad has business people in from out of state and they are meeting them for dinner.

I started a cabinet clean our project and I have the biggest mess you can imagine all over the place so I have to get back and get it finished.  Whoa is me when I attempt these tasks.

Just got back from having my bandage changed. It stuck so a little more bleeding. No one told me when to return after the initial injury, so I waited 48 hours..bad me. I am to go down daily.

Gloria, it costs six dollars to have a complete meal brought to our room, and it is worth every cent. We have three meals a day as part of our rent, but the delivery is an extra charge……worth every cent !! And it gives these young students a job.

Larry I always take two or three books at a time, but return each one as I finish it.
we do check them out, but they are using a new system now, and I don't like it. It is electronic, of course. You run the back of the book thru the back of the machine and it records the  information..I already have a library card and that info is in the machine. Sometimes I have to problem with it, other times it drives me up the wall. There is no librarian on duty to help. I have been feeling so droopy and weak lately, that I have just taken the book or books without notifying the machine and when I return it I replace it exactly where I removed it. My conscience bothers me a bit, but having been the librarian in my former facility, I don't feel too guilty. Mother Nature
is not too kind, so I pray those in the storm path will be safe. At least there is a few days of warning so folks can prepare. In our earthquake country, there is no warming, but this is where we chose to live. I read so many of John Grishams books years past. now I am into more mild stuff, Christian fiction is what our Library titles it. I am reading City of Angeles. A novel by Tracie Peterson and James S. Bell.

Jenny, I can be out and about, but this injury seems to have affected my balance too. Several times I have felt myself tipping over. so I grab the nearest stable area…mostly my cart, and I am learning to put the brakes on it when I stop. life can be quite a challenge as we age, but with care and good sense we can still enjoy every day.

Gloria de, Healing does take much longer at our age, but every day gives us old gals a challenge…stand tall and fight back, or go lay in bed and quit. I do not intend to quit. If I can stand up to good music and wiggle a bit I do it. If my body says lay down and rest, I obey. I think God is always leading us, and God already knows what is to come, so we follow His leading. And be thankful. Hugs to you my friend.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Hello Everyfriend!  I had a great experience this afternoon.  I went to the movies with two friends to see "GOD BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD".  It was great!  A bit of a tear jerker but a real story to tell.

JUNE, this movie came from a book and if you like Christian books, you'd like this.  The next time you go to the library, ask if they have it.  If they don't, maybe they can get it.  The REST of you, if you go to the movies at all, go see this one.  You won't feel like you wasted time OR money!

Now I'm off to Dreamland!  Tomorrow morning is a work day and I need to be bright eyed and ready for anything!  I wish you all a good, safe night and a happy tomorrow.  May God bless us, every one!

I have to be to work at 8 this morning so I better get on my horse!  If I was wearing boots, I'd put an egg in one of them and beat it!

Good morning everyone..

We are back to the muggy weather , I have a feeling the a/c might be going on just to get the humidity out of the house! Yesterday went well, the new dentist is so nice, so young too!!![ I went in and the receptionist said that my appointment is for Wed, I thought it was for Tue, she said because I had come a long way they would squeeze me in..Came home ,looked at my calendar and phoned right back to apologize….yes it was for Wed!!

So many little jobs need doing today, I had best knock them off one by one.

Shirley, I always warn folks to just take a wee bit and try it before they put too much on whatever they are eating. We really like that mustard and a little dab will go in potato or macaroni salad ,even a bit in egg salad.

Jane , have a great day at work ,lots of smiles through your till.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe!

Good morning everyone, just watching the news and it looks like this hurricane might stall and it could drop up to 40 inches of rain. Hospitals in the area are sending patients to hospitals further inland. Thank God for the information these days. When the 1938 hit up here there was no warning and people did not know what was coming. So many died in that storm. I still have a booklet my Mom bought after the storm and showed a ship blown out of the water and sitting on a road in Fall River, Mass. Down town Providence was flooded and on some of the buildings there you can still see where the watermark was. Since then they have build a hurricane barrier and they can close the gates so the water cannot rush in like that again.

LARRY  my niece and her husband have already cancelled their trip to the Outer Banks as soon as they heard about the hurricane.

JENNY  I was happy to see so many flying our flag after 9/11 but that did not last long. They have one here on a flag pole in front and leave it up but it is not lighted at night. They have a light near the pole but it goes straitgjt up and not on the flag so they do not turn that light on. There are a few vets living here and it surprises me that they do not gripe about that.

CAROL  ny daughter says we have so much information in our brains it takes time to pull up what we mean to say.

Have a great day everyone, feel like going back to bed but the noisy landscapers are here with their mowers and leaf blowers.

Hi Everyone. We are in for another day with a heat index of 100 degrees or more with a good chance of late afternoon rain.  People are still evacuating from the coastal areas of South Carolina.  It appears we could be in for quite a bit of rain depending on how far North the Hurricane goes.  Just a lot of uncertainty.  Our school were reopened today as they decided they probably would not be needed as shelters.

Pat is planning on attending her Gifts group at the Church this morning so I will take her and go down to coffee while she is there.  This evening we will be going to our Wednesday night dinner at the Church and then spend some time with our son.  Yesterday we did go to the Dollar Tree store for a few minutes and then went to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.  Yesterday evening I finished reading the John Grisham book and will return it to the man who loaned it to me either today or tomorrow.

Jenny,  considering the divisions in our country and the intolerance of people to one another that exists it is hard to recall how we all came together after 9/11. It is a shame it took such a terrible tragedy to bring us together.  Glad you are having some nigh weather. Gloria de has talked with Johann and she and Wendell are evacuating Myrtle Beach so they will be safe.  Yes, Interstate 26 is one way inland on all of the lanes.  I see you shop at Sprouts like we used to.  I enjoyed seeing some of the other merchandise they had but don't think we ever bought any of their other groceries.  Thanks for the comments on the Recipe Index.  It was a lot of work but I did enjoy doing it.  I had wanted to make a table but this software will only allow a simple listing type table with no links or other coding (at least as I understand the instructions I found) so had to do the long lists that could have the links.

Carol, as I am sure you have seen we have heard for Johann and Wendell and they should be fine.  Hope you were able to enjoy your quilting group last evening.

Jenny, hope you had a great time sitting with your grands last evening.  Cleaning out cabinets is a tough job.

June, glad you have the option of having the meals delivered to your apartment.  You don't eat out in restaurants anymore and that would cost a lot more.  June, sorry you have trouble with the machine to check out your books and I am sure you are very careful to return the books where you found them.  Our libraries have those electronic checkout systems.  I also like christian fiction.  Pat used the transport chair yesterday when we went to the Dollar Tree store but experienced a problem in that the handles have no brakes.  She sees the doctor on the 25th of this month and will ask him for a prescription to get the Rollator so she can feel more in control.  When she sits in the transport chair it has brakes down by the back wheels but she had forgotten about them and called me to come and hold the chair so she could sit down yesterday while we were out.  One way or the other she will have a Rollator probably by the end of the month whether the insurance company will help with the cost or not.

Jane, nice to read that you had a great experience at the movies.  I had not heard of that movie but must admit I pay little attention to the movies as am not much of a movie fan.  It sound like it was a nice change of pace for you.  I think you will likely be getting some rains from Hurricane Florence.  It appears our area is now likely in for more rain than expected as the forecasts are now showing rains clear over into Georgia with all of South Carolina now in the cone as it extends on past us.  Fortunately we are not in any danger of flooding here at our house as far as I know.

Amy, last year and the couple before it we were having a terrible time with humidity in the house until I bought the dehumidifier and we ran it all summer.  This year the humidity has stayed in the mid-40's in the house and I haven't had to turn it on so guess we got the moisture out of the house.  Glad they were able to squeeze you in at the doctor's office yesterday.  With all the appointment you have to keep track of that little slip up is certainly understandable.

Gloria, we certainly have good weather forecasting now and people get advance notices of the Hurricanes and have time to prepare and evacuate is needed.  Of course, there are some who refuse to evacuate and put others at risk in trying help them after the storm hits.  It sounds like it will be awhile before the Outer Banks are ready for tourists again.  I agree with your daughter about having so much information in our brains that it often takes sometimes to call it up.
