Amy, just watch that you don't burn your candle at both ends - as I often tell Tom, who can't say "no" to friends who ask him to do things for them.  He comes in at night exhausted and I let him sleep in the morning.  I have only one appointment next week and that is for a haircut.  Afterward, we go to breakfast at the restaurant next to the hair place and it is my treat so he can relax then and also not have to pay for his meal.

Take it easy!

JaneS

I didn't do much of anything all day except stuff my face, put heat on my back and take care of the doggies.  I thought about walking down to the corner for the mail but I changed my mind.

I had a little phone chat with my cousin in Wisconsin and a text chat with two of my daughters.  I played some games on the computer and took a nap on the porch.  It's been a beautiful day with a high of 79 and sunshine all day!  My kind of day.  Oh yes, I gathered all the stuff to make Amy's mustard and then decided to do it tomorrow.  I kind of took the day off today!  And I'm not sorry!

Now I'm going to watch some TV, catch up with my emails and....whatever!  I hope you all had a day that compares to mine!  Oh yes!  I did watch the news about FLORENCE and said some prayers for the safety of those in her path.

Good Morning everyone. Jane I think most all of us are with you on the prayers
Of those hurting with those in the path of the bad weather. I have been to the beach at Tampa bay. the sand there is white and the water so clear you can wade out stand up right chin deep and see the dirt under your toe nails. I spotted a sea shell pointed on both sides. I scooted my left foot under it and raised it up to where I could hold it in my hand. I went up to the car and put it in it. by the time we got home to bro and Sil's house that evening it was dead and stinking. I got it and went out back in the in the alley and got a stick trying to dig it out (gagging) a little neighbor girl came over watching me. she came on up to me and scooted under my arm backed up to me and took hold of it with one hand and the other thumb and finger reached in and pulled the meat out. see this is how you do it , but before it is dead and stinking. she said we go up under the pear and get them all the time and cook and eat them they are good. I still have the shell in the bath room on the rim of the bath tub. Have a good day see you later.

Hi Everyone. Our area seems to have avoided any direct impacts from the Hurricane.  We had generally light rain starting yesterday afternoon but no big wind gusts that I heard.  Today we may get some more rain but they are saying less than an inch with some wind gusts.  However, it is now moving Northward away from us.  So did feel somewhat better yesterday and, as of now, I do plan on going to Sunday School and Church.  Nothing else on the agenda for today.  I did stay home all day yesterday and rested a lot. I just heard on the Weather Channel that North and South Carolina now have treats of tornadoes in some areas and sections of both I-95 and I-40 in North Carolina are closed in both directions.

Gloria, how foolish to get out on surf boards in seas like they are.  Hope you were able to stay comfortable yesterday.  Maybe we will be in for some nice fall days soon--we can always be optimistic.

Amy, I was glad to see your posting from yesterday afternoon.  I hope you are going to have a reasonable cool day today with the planned power outage.  At least you know what to expect and your generator will keep your refrigerator cold.  So glad you had great news from the oncologist for your husband. These are the kind of reports we hope for.  To this point we haven't experienced anything but a light rain and a few gusts of wind.  I don't know about the Eastern part of our country but haven't heard any serious reports.

Mary Ann, Tom sounds like a very kind-hearted person with lots of friends.

Jane, nice to read you took a day off and basically rested and took care of yourself.

Lloyd, I have seen that beach in Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg as we used to go to a Cousins reunion on my wife's side of the family in St. Pete every year.  Those were fun times but it has now been a long time since we did that.  I never tried to clean out a seashell.

Larry I talked to peter on Skype this AM early , he asked me to ask you to get in touch with him . i do not reamber if he said email or Skype. short term memory you know. best i seam to be able to do.

Good morning everyone, well it is for a few more minutes. Fell asleep about 5 this morning and woke after 11 this morning. Was cool enough for sleeping but was restless.

LARRY  glad you weren't  in the path of that hurricane. I always thought those surf borders were crazy putting their lives in danger looking for that perfect wave to ride to shore on. We have had some bad ones here but mostly the real damage has been along the shore.

Think it is past tine I get dressed for what is left of the day.

Our power finally came back on from 8 this morning!!

MaryAnn, I know burning at both ends just  doesn't work but there are times I forget that! I love the dog next door , he is such a sweetheart!!

Not much was done today, besides it is a day of rest. I puttered in the sewing area putting patterns that I had downloaded but hadn't put away....now they are :)

That was a long time to be without a/c, we do have a generator that powers some lights, water pump, freezer and fridge but not enough power for the a/c. I put a fan on golden girl as she doesn't take the heat well. Zapped some leftovers in the microwave and called that supper with blueberry pie and ice cream for dessert.

Happy to read everyone is safe from that horrid storm....

Enjoy your day everyone.

I finally got some energy today.  I made a double batch of Amy's Hot Mustard.  That will be 5 little jars for Christmas presents and 2 jars and some leftovers for me.  I still need to make one more double batch to have enough to give for Christmas gifts.

My daughter has been telling me that she thinks it's time for me to start looking at apartments or Senior living.  I don't know if I'm up to that.  She says this kind of housing is hard to find and I need to get on some wait lists.  I did look at the listings today and she's right.  There is ZERO availability. I'm not sure if I'd even like living in the housing that is in this area.  It just seems like a lot to think about now.  But I guess if I don't think about it now, I'll never find anything.  I just don't like the idea of giving up my privacy.  What does everyone think about this.  I do value your opinions.

I think I'll put it aside for now and do like Scarlett O'Hara...I'll think about it tomorrow.

Jane, I don't live in Senior Housing or an apartment, but I do live in a condo.  My condo is one of four units in a building; we are side by side with no one above or below us.  I do not feel I have lost any privacy by living in this condo.  I know there are condos where they are like an apartment building and I think I would not like that arrangement.  I am able to stay here because Tom lives with me.  I have a walk-out and he has the lower level.  It works fine for us because I don't go downstairs so he has his privacy too.  Of course all of the outside work is done for us and we do have a monthly fee.  The monthly fee includes water, outside insurance, area lighting.  I own the inside of my unit and can do anything I want.  Outside I would need Association permission.

Good Night and sweet dreams everyone.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Gu ess I finally had enough sleep and was awake at 5 and wide awake. The last few days it felt like I slept the days and nights away, not like me at all. Just hear d local weather, today will be a nice sunny day but tomorrow we will wake to rain. This area might get up to 3 inches of it.  Think I should spend part of the day outside enjoying it, will not go out on Tuesday.

GLORIA de  I have seen that phone advertised, sound wonderful for those with hearing problems. Great that is is free if your doctor says you need it.

AMY  I envy you baking a blueberry pie. Think I will have to try those Pillsbury piecrusts. I am so used to home made I wonder if they are flaky or like cardboard.

JANE  I waited 18 months for this apartment, checking on some of them in the area there is a 4 year waiting list. Those are the ones everyone wants. One thing I like about this one is it has only 53 apartments and 3 floors. They have some that are 10 floors and that is not for me.

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone..

I think things are back to normal here, whatever normal is. Chasing dust bunnies today and finishing off the garden is in the agenda right after I take hubby out for his coffee.

Gloria ,that is a lot of rain for one day! I followed your idea on putting fresh berries in with the canned filling and it tastes so much nicer!

Jane, glad you found your energy. Mine seems to want to go away on me at times when I need it.You will have to make sure it is a pet friendly place, hopefully with a back yard for your poochies.

Larry, I agree, now to get good needs from the cardiologist next month..

Better get moving here.....

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe.

Hi Everyone.  The sky is clear and the sun is shiny brightly on the way to a 90 degree afternoon.  We had light rain but no wind problems yesterday afternoon and evening.  I am watching the Weather Channel and now they are having tornadoes and the flooding is terrible with the rainfall totals exceeding all recorded rainfall of the past.

I did make it to Sunday School and Church and then picked up something for our main meal of the day.  I wasn't very peppy yesterday and went to bed around 7:30 last evening as was aching and not enjoying being in my easy chair.  I have nothing on the schedule for today so will just take it easy and rest. I can find something to keep me as busy as I want to be.

Lloyd, I will write to Peter today.  Perhaps he has lost my email address.  Thanks for letting me know.

Gloria, I have actually been shocked by the lack of impact in our area from the Hurricane but certainly no complaints.  I think of all the people who have lost so much in this terrible storm in the way of homes and jobs and some lives.  Some of the rivers haven't even crested yet and it sounds like I-95 will remain closed for a few more days as one of the rivers has it flooded.  I am sure there will be a lot of restoration work to do here in the Eastern part of South Carolina as well as all the damage in other States.  Good to read you had a good night's sleep last night.  Is the rain you are expecting a remnant of Hurricane Florence?

deAngel, I hope you like your new phone.  Glad your neighbor told you about the special Government program and saved you the $200.  We eat soup the year round.  In fact, I expect that is what we will have for our main meal today as have a couple of quarts of the hamburger vegetable soup that Pat fixed in the Instant Pot a couple of days ago.

Amy, I am glad to see they got your power back on.  Nice to read you have a relatively quiet day.  Do you print out a lot of patterns.  Pat is doing this all the time and then files them away.  I wonder who she thinks will be using them but as long as she enjoys doing it that is all that matters.  Good idea to put fresh berries in with the canned pie mix.  Some of the canned pie mixes have quite a few berries or apples and other have more filler than fruit.

JaneS,  I bet your homemade Christmas goodies are much anticipated and enjoyed.  Will you be making all of that candy again this year?  Only you will know when it is time to make a move to senior living but it sure wouldn't hurt anything to start looking and seeing what is available and putting your name on a waiting list if you find something that you like and would be doable for you.  I know Stacey was on a waiting list for over two years to get into disabled Public Housing in the Atlanta area.  The apartment she finally was able to move to was so nice.  It was an older building that had been completely rehabbed and she was really happy there as it was so much better than the apartment she had that was in a building that was over 60 years old.  Personally I would be willing to make such a move now but know that Pat would not so such is not in our immediate future.  I am finding that just getting Pat's breakfast is leaving me exhausted and sometimes pretty well done in.  I know it is a big decision for anyone.

Mary Ann, with Tom living with you it has given you options some don't have.  Each of our situations is different and I am glad yours has worked out well for you both.  Like you I would have to have Association permission to make any outside changes.  However, I have no plans on making any outside changes.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and on the move for some time.  I wonder if I'm trying to prove to my daughter that I can still do it for myself.  I really don't know.  However, I don't think I want to live in any of the places around here that are available to low income seniors.  I like being able to go outside in my own yard and I enjoy sitting on my own porch.  I like being able to invite people in   I don't think I want to give all that up.  I'll have to see if I can come up with some positives for going.

LARRY, that's what Cathy said...that there are waiting lists but it's not to soon to start checking out what's available.  I suppose she has a point.  And I did look at some them on line.  All the inexpensive ones say "Nothing available at this time".

I've been outside pulling weeds for a little while.  It's supposed to rain again this afternoon and it already looks threatening out there.  I thought I should get some of them out before God waters them and they get some more growth.  Maybe after they're watered the rest will come out easier.

I'll be off to Wally World at 3 today and this is my last afternoon until next summer....if I last that long.

I wish you all a good day.  Grab it and make it your own!

Good morning.

We have been up and moving since 5:45 AM.  DIL Michele had a colonoscopy this morning, so we went to her house to get the grands off to school as she and Dr. Dave had to be at the hospital early.  We are so relieved to hear there were 0 polyps found so she is good now for 3 years.  As you all know, after having cancer we will always be on edge when we have to have these types of check ups.  It has been three years since her colon cancer.

Our Bronco Game yesterday had me on edge....they sure did not play tha5 well but a win is a win, so I have to be happy.....they played our worse enemies....The Raiders!

LARRY, it sure is good to read that the impact of the hurricane has been minimal in your area.  The soup Pat made sure does sound yummy.  Good for you for getting the first shingles shot and your flu shot.  I wish we had thought ahead enough to get our flu shot before we travel this weekend to Boston.  I hate to do it now Incase we would have any issues from it.  We will do both of thos3 when we return in a couple of weeks.

GLORIA de, what wonderful news about you being able to get the telephone for free.

AMY, that is a long time to be with out power that you had to deal with.  Glad you have the generator to run the necessities.

Have a good day everyone....Bob wants to leave for Costco RIGHT NOW!

Jane, have you ever thought of a mobile home or manufactured home?  I am very happy 35 years in my mobile, low rent. we do not own the land. Out here on eastern LI, the places are very very expensive. My place is 22X50 two baths, two bedrooms,  carport and sunroom plus deck, rent under $500 very large back yard.  Hey! the place next to mine is for sale for $85.000

Thanks for the suggestion AND the invitation, LINEDANCER.  However, I'm currently living in a double wide that I own with the bank.  What my daughter is advocating is somewhere that I won't be responsible for upkeep.  I know what she means and sometimes I agree with her.  Especially when the weeds take over or the snow needs shoveling.

Thanks to Jane,  I had an e-mail from her asking about me and if I was ok.

I was in the hospital for a week and then transferred to a rehab center for another 9 days.

Maryilyne and Jane had sent me an e-mail asking about me.  I wrote back to both of them, and then I just now wrote a message on Norm's Bait and Tackle page.  I am having trouble with my ankles and legs swelling, so I can't sit at the computer very long.  You can read more details over on that page, if you desire.

I am overwhelmed with all caring and get well messages from you all.  It is just amazing that our little group of "strangers" can suddenly become almost like
"Family".  I feel truly blessed.

I will try to check in when I can.  Might not be everyday, but I will be in touch.  I am going to be very busy each day with therapy and home care people for about 4 weeks.

Thanks again for all your kind thoughts.  It makes me feel really special to be missed.

OH! THANK YOU GOD FOR ANSWERING THAT PRAYER!  AND THANK YOU FOR SENDING JOY HERE TO REASSURE US.  It's been more than 2 weeks since you've posted here and the thought of you was weighing heavy on my mind.  I'm happy to hear that you are getting the proper care and I'm sure you'll be back among us as soon as you can.

Those of you who are finding it difficult to sit will have to invest in one of those desk top thingies that you can raise and then you can stand at the desk and do your work.  I wonder if those things are really worth the money.

And you are absolutely right, JOY!  We are family here and we do miss those who are gone for long periods of time.  We even miss those who are only gone a couple of days!  I think they call that "LOVE".  And yes, it is amazing that bunch of motley strangers like us can become so close when we've never met!

I'm not as tired as I've been after work.  I got two short registers tonight and it was a slow night.  Seems like everyone who checked out had something that went with the weather...raincoats, windshield wipers, boots, ponchos, large plastic bags, etc.  It was like the ones who didn't need these things stayed home.

I'm gonna go vegetate with the doggies.  Enjoy the rest of your evening Everyfriend!

I'm finally back on line. They no longer have electronic helpers on the week end and Sat. A.M. they had a short elec. failing here...just long enough to close down my computer for the weekend.

Jane, if my memory is correct, I think I was 81 when my kids wanted me to sell my house and move to a care facility.
So I move to Sunwest Village  the opposite end of Hemet, ca. I lived there for 10 years and loved it. As I was still young enough and well enough to have my car, and I got involved in all sorts of good things...started a Fire Monitors program, ran the library, danced, sang,  and lived a new life. Then came illnesses, everyone I had fun with got old and tired and so did I.So I made the move to be just 20 minutes from Gary and Dori, and I will have been here 2 years in January. I can still do a good wiggle to the right music, I sing with two groups, and I feel so cared for,  sincere love from all who are in charge,  and my wonderful friends. So thats my contribution in you trying to make a decision.

This has been a dull day for me, there are good days and there are tired days. Today I am tired. Sunday was good...a nice Chapel service, good dinner with good friends, and tomorrow will be a fresh start. I'm going to have a light supper at home, and then back to bed and book.

I am SO glad  to be back on line with all of you. JOY......my prayers are going out for you my friend. I know you are glad to be back home and on line with those of us who care for you.
Time to eat. Hugs Love and Prayers dear hearts. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, well the rain has started, woke me at 3 this morning hitting the window. Not steady starts and stops and then starts again.

AMY  I have never used can blueberry pie filling but I have canned them yeas ago, now I freeze them. I know I like the Fresh French Blueberry pie I got years ago in a Yankee magazine. Of course I use more than called for cooking some of them and more of the fresh ones to mix with them. Listening to the weather on different channels last nightthe Boston are will get more rain than we will. With the 3 inches we might get makes me glad all my family members live on a hill with no worry about flooding.

LARRY  we have thunder storms in the forecast for today and a CHANCE of tornadoes, too. This is the first year the forecasters have said that. Yes this is all part of Florence. Like you I love homemade soup and usually have some in the freezer. Around here it is never too hot for chowder and clamcakes. My apartment is supposed to be a handicap one but it sure is not. The counters, sink and stove are all too high and only one lady is in a wheelchair and has problems cooking and washing.

JANE  the reason I moved here is because I could not go up and down the stairs in the apartment I had in my son's house. I needed someone with me to help me and carry my rollator on those steep stairs. That house is over 100 years old. At least here I can use the elevator and enjoy going outside when I want.

JENNY  wish I could get around more, Boston is not that far from here and it would be great to meet  you and Bob.

JOY  so good seeing you this morning. I have always felt like the Soda Shoppe is lika a close family the way we worry about each other.

JANE  standing at my computer would be worse than sitting here. After half an hour sitting here I have to get up and walk around a bit with my rollator or my back gets so stiff it hurts even more.

JUNE  where I am living now I am only 3 miles from my oldest son and it is less than 5 minutes away. As long as I am near one of my sons I am content. My other son comes here every week end and he is the really thoughtful one. My daughter is also very thoughtful and we talk on Skype every day.

Guess I will get my breakfast and check email. Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a while.  I took the doggies out and after they came in, Mickie chose to barf on the living room carpet.  While I was cleaning that up I was thinking, "I hope it was something she dug up outside and she's not going to be sick!"  They've had their pills and we're waiting for the "BOING" to have breakfast.

Yesterday, when I went out to go to work, my battery was dead.  Sundy morning I had the headlights on when I was driving to church in heavy fog.  I neglected to turn them off when I got home and they drained the battery.  My good neighbor across the street took me to work so I wouldn't be late and I called my son to see if he could pick me up after work.  He did and he jump started my car and I think I'm back in business.  I let it run for about 15 minutes and then drove around the block (too dark to go very far) and it started up again twice when I got back.

I was so excited to see JOY's posting and her email answer to me that I forgot everything else!  It's been more than 2 weeks since she posted.

We're getting more rain...I wonder what a sunny day looks like?  And it's supposed to continue all day with scattered HEAVY downpours.  Wouldn't you know it?  My 2 friends and I are headed for the Mall to see a movie.  It's about a 20 minute drive and we're all hoping we go between the storms.

I wish you all a good day, safe from storms and pain.  Do with it what you will!

Hi Everyone.  We are to have a sunny day with a high of 93 degrees.  We did get some rain late last night.  I didn't sleep well at last as woke up at 1:30 and never could go back to sleep.  I got up around 2:30 for a couple of hours and then laid back down but couldn't fall asleep.  There are only two things on the schedule for today.  I do have someone coming to the house at 10 this morning to work with me for an hour.  Then Pat and I plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal today as it is National Cheeseburger Day and so today and tomorrow they are offering a free cheeseburger when a regular entree is ordered.  I think the rest of the day will be free so will be able to get some rest this afternoon and hopefully sleep tonight.  Nothing to write about in terms of things done yesterday.  It was just a quiet day although I did finish listening to another John Grisham novel and started another one that I hope is as good.

Jane, I am sure you will make the best decision for yourself.  Other than an expenditure of a little time and energy in checking out what is available and getting information you would have nothing lost. I think most counties probably a Senior information officer or something of that type that can provide a lot of information.  Will you be working only the morning shifts throughout the fall and winter months. I didn't realize you lived in a manufactured home.  I read an article that companies are starting to experiment with those stand up desks.  Personally I wouldn't like that at all.  One of the advantages of a laptop is that you can sit with your feet up and still enjoy the computer.  On occasion I have taken my laptop in to the bed and can put my feet up.

June, sorry you lost use of your computer for the weekend but glad to see you are back online.  I guess that gave you time to read a few more pages or get a few more moments of sleep.

Jenny, glad that Michele got such good news and know everyone is relieved.  I did watch the end of the Denver game.  Did you read that one of the Chargers football players retired at the halftime of their game on Sunday?  I don't think I have ever heard of that happening before.  We did have more of the soup for our dinner last evening and it was very tasty and filling.

deAngel, we lived in a mobile home in both Illinois and Kentucky but our family outgrew it.  It wasn't a double wide but I think it was 16 feet wide with a tipout that made it seem a little bigger.

Joy, you are special just as each of the people who are here in our cyber family are special.  I think this is something that has to be experienced to understand.

Gloria, I see the rain you are getting today is tied into the last of the Hurricane.  Sure hope those tornadoes stay away from your area and no flooding occurs.

Lloyd, it sounds like you have a wonderful neighbor in Bob.  It sounds like you still have quite a herd of cattle to care for.

Amy, I hope you have a good experience with the dentist.  I hate it when filling fall out as it always seems like the hole is large and that is where my tongue wants to go.

Good Morning Everyone from the cool,
but muggy (rain=high humidity) rocky
coast of Maine.

I ordered my tall drive rollator:

https://smile.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-RTL10266-T-Walker-Rollator/dp/B00QFYS3TK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1537271970&sr=8-1&keywords=drive+rollator+tall

from Amazon and somehow it got shipped
from Georgia to California...    I spoke with
the sellers and they are sending one to me.
At least that is what they say that they
are doing.    We shall see.
Amazon had the best price and the shipping
was free...  I will know more when it finally
arrives at my door.

Otherwise all is well... cept the muggy weather,
but I shall not complain too loudly,  as
the fall temperature are beginning to
arrive and they feel soooo good.

Wishing everyone a good day.
Sandy

Just a note, today and tomorrow I will not be available  or online.  It is Yom Kippur - a fasting day for me.  I'll be back probably in another 28 hours.

I think this new dentist and I will get along just fine. What a kind and caring young man he is!! The freezing is now totally out and I have quit drooling.. :2funny:

I checked my hot tub before we left this morning only to find it is not working. I changed two fuses and still nothing so the repair man is coming on Thur to see what is wrong.

We are waiting on VON to come and then I think it will be an early night for me..I hope!!
