Life has a way of teaching you things.
Humble yourself or life will humble you.
Respecting others or life will make you regret it.
Every choice returns to the one who made it.
Every intention finds its way back to the heart that carried it.

So walk gently in this world.
Be the person who brings peace, not pain.
Be the soul that learns with grace and grows with patience.

   A Friend Like You
by Anonymous

There's lots of things with which I'm blessed,
My problems have been few,
But of all, this one's the best:
To have a friend like you

In times of trouble friends will say,
"Just ask, I'll help you through it."
But you don't wait for me to ask,
You just get up and do it!

And I can think of nothing more
That I could wisely do,
Than know a friend, and be a friend,
And have a friend like you

   A Simple Hug
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr

There's something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart;
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part

A hug's a way to share the joy
And sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you 'cause you're you

Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your neighbor,
Or a cuddly teddy bear

A hug is an amazing thing -
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeli
But can't find the words to say

It's funny how a little hug
Makes everyone feel good;
In every place and type,
It's always understood

And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or parts
Just open up your arms
And open up your hearts

Good Happy New Year Day to all!

The cats are fed, I've had my tea, and I still do not feel completely awake yet. The temp is at 24o, and there is a light dusting of snow on the cars and grass. Looks like we can expect a mostly sunny and windy day reaching into the low 30s. Right now, it is still dark, but I can see just a faint lightening at the horizon.

This morning I need to organize my trash to take up to the bin after the mail man shows up. The dust bunnies need corralled and deported with the trash, too. This afternoon I think I will attempt to get the cats' nails clipped again.

Amy

Good morning and Happy New Year.

Brrr chilly out with a temp of -4 and I do have a dance waiting for me. Not much but it does need to be cleaned up.

A quiet day we will have and too much food will be ate..again.

Bubble, thank you for the new start. I love the Simple Hug...perfect!! Just like a thank you doesn't cost anything but worth more than money can buy.

MG, have you tried Rescue Remedy on the cats? Mellows them out and makes the job easier. Jane, told me about it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning and Hello, 2026!  PLEASE be kind to all of us.

If we had any new year's celebration fireworks last night I sure didn't know it. Went to bed at 10 o'clock, shut down my hearing aid and zonked out.  Didn't wake up until 7 a.m.

No big plans for today.  Think I might let Instacart bring us dinner .  David will appreciate not having to cook.   ;D   I will watch the Rose Parade today,  lf I remember.

Take care,  All

Good early morning, I've been into early to bed and early to rise mode lately and woke up close to four Am. At 5:33, it's minus 46, so I'm glad I don't need to go anywhere until the fifth.

MarsGal

A slight change of plans: Sue called to see if I want to meet her and Dodie for lunch at Lynn's. We haven't been there for a while. Not fond of going out in the freeze, but I am going anyway.

No mailman today. I forgot. Still need to empty the bins and take the trash up to the bin, but it can wait until this afternoon.

BarbStAubrey

Well my flashing Christmas lights on the small front porch tree just hit the dust - lasted lighting the tree to just the right amount of time - hope this is an Oman of good things magically happening in 2026 - Praying that everyone's 2026 is a good one

Amy

Good morning..

Tad chilly out with a temp of -5° and NO snow to deal with until tomorrow. I did get all the dancing done yesterday so a day off is welcomed.

Catch up on a few things today and  try to get to the sewing room.

Better get at the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

We had a dusting of snow. Enough to clean up that on the grass, and leave enough on the cars to let you know that it did snow. It will go when the sun gets a bit higher.

Happy New Year, Everyfriend!

I checked "Show own posts" and discovered it was "last year" since I'd posted. Also - that I've repeated myself several times. Resolution #1:  :-X about same subjects in posts!

The last few weeks have been busy - and sometimes hectic and confusing to me.  Too many things coming at me at one time and house filled with big people (some over 6' tall) frequently.

I'm glad to be on my own schedule and am slowly getting organized.

Need to "leisurely" do today's Project du Jour.

 :hugs:

patricia19

Callie, unfortunately, that's the story of my life! Hope 2026 is a better one for you!

Callie hope the next few days are on your terms - I know what you are saying - I too love the company but it is exhausting plus their eating and sleeping schedule is often at odds with my newer hilter skilter whatever works schedule...

Had to turn on the AC for a bit - in the low 80s and the air is heavy so a bit of AC and breathing is easier - Sun still low in the sky so it is streaming in the windows where as later in the year the porches keep the sun in the yard rather than heating up the house.

Watched the New Year's Concert from Vienna last night - enjoyable as always - this year's guest conductor made it fun - there were smiles on the faces of most of the musicians - He, Yannick Nézet-Séguin is from Canada and evidently is currently the director of the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The PBS host was again Hugh Bonneville, Robert Crawley from Downton Abbey fame. He looks great. Interesting in how Hugh Bonneville was explaining some of the pomp of court-life that was the way of things only 100 years ago and then on the other hand 100 years is a long time that I don't see Austria any better off now then when their King lived in the palace. Of course the second World War was as devastating to the people and their culture as the first that ended the monarchy.

Well Paul will be here in a bit to fix yet again my disposal - probably needs to be replaced but he is bound and determined to fix what is here...

Amy

Good morning..

This is beginning to sound like a broken record...I have a dance to do today. So much for having other plans. Temp is 14° at the moment and snowing. Should be thankful it is not like in other areas where they are dealing with a lot more of snow.

Better get ready for the dance

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, morning routines, meet and greets, and coffee made or in progress.

Amy

   When I went out to clean off the garage apron I realized ,no SB needed , just a waltz with the snow shovel and that light fluffy snow was dealt with. Snow has stopped for the moment but it is a dull cloudy day now. Woodbox filled with another to go in when needed, laundry on the go and now to sew...

Electricity went off this morning - not for long but just enough that everything has to be reset - gave me a hint to clear and check the computer and defragment the disk - now everything is running well at top speed...

I'm having fun looking out my front kitchen window - near the street on the far side of the front yard is a flagpole that I use for 'theme' flags... decided I just could not keep up with the protocol to fly an American flag and so instead there is a flag depicting a holiday celebrated or a picture that highlights the season - well most of the flags I've collected are 'nice', mostly nature themed however, I found and purchased a flag that hit my giggle point that as neighbors drive by I hope it hits their giggle point.

Y'know the small ducks Jeep owners line up on their dashboard to spread a feeling of kindness and joy - well this flag, with a black background has one of those ducklings dressed as a pirate, with a ship from the Spanish Main behind him, wearing a tricorn pirate's hat and wielding a sward. He is about as fierce looking as a little kid playing dress up - I laugh everytime I see the flag flying in the breeze showing this imp of a duckling... I'd love to find another featuring one of these ducks in a Spring like characterization for later but for now this is perfect.

Ciaobella

Happy New Year!!!  I am wishing you all a happy & healthy 2026.

I think I am finally over the stomach virus that hit me the day after Christmas now just to get my blood pressure meds regulated to where I no longer have times, I get lightheaded and feel like I am going to faint. I have talked with so many family & friends who said it took some adjustments in their dosage as well so I will be patient.

Callie and Barb, I know how you feel we get in our own routines and although we love having the company of our loved ones around, we also like to get back into our do whatever we want when we want mode.

Mars, so glad you decided to meet with your friends in spite of the cold. I have a group of high school girls that I get together with for a luncheon several times throughout the year and sometimes I do let the weather keep me from going and then I wish I had gone afterwards.

Rick, I had to giggle at you leaving just enough dusting of the snow on the car to show it was there.  I tell my hubby to please don't shovel so quickly after the snowfalls so I can just appreciate the beauty of it without footprints.  He is such a thoughtful person and goes out and does two neighbors and ours early if the snow has ended.

Amy, so you dance when you shovel or am I misunderstanding you?  lol I mean why not enjoy it while you must be out there. The pic is cute, but I am afraid we are a long way away from Spring.

Phyllis, I missed the Rose Bowl parade this year.  Being a huge Michigan Wolverine football fan and my hubby is an Ohio State fan we always were in front of the tv on the morning of the Rosebowl because most often one of our teams would be lucky to be playing in the game.  Since the NCAA changed things and the Rosebowl's Big Daddy significance lost its status it's never been the same for me.

Patricia, I like your way of thinking "early to bed early to rise" but much like you, if I go to bed too early, I am awake way too early and then I lose steam too early in the day. Although I am a night owl and never turn in before midnight. Hubby and I stayed up to watch the ball drop and then switched channels to the Nashville New Year's Eve celebration, so I think after our dancing in the living room and toasting with our Lambrusco wine (my favorite) we finally went to bed around 3:00 a.m. Oh, did we pay for that the next day. We belonged to a Country Kickers dance club back in the late 90's and we were trying to reenact those dances. Let's just say we were more comfortable with the slow dance.

Barb, we were posting at the same time, and I love the fact you have a flag that can bring a little laughter for you and those who pass by. Defragging your computer...now I haven't heard that in a while.

Okay I need to go get dinner so I will sign off...

Ciao for now~

Good morning

Another chilly day with a temp of 7° but no snow predicted!

A day of rest here, might get into the sewing room and try to finish the quilt .....maybe.

Patricia, watched a show the other day and it showed Skagway. We stopped there a long time ago! Left our trailer at Carcross and really enjoyed our time looking around Skagway.

Rick, birds are queit here, think most are cuddled up in the cedars.

Phyllis, did you manage to get Instacart? I take it this is a food delivery?

Ciaobella....dance...said with tongue in cheek. Although if one gets into heavy wet snow you can "dance" to get out of it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Another dusting of snow here. Just enough to remind us that it is winter. Warming later should take care if it.
Yesterday a pair of cardinals came for a handout. Nice to see them against the snow.

QuoteDefragging - Isn't that done automatically now?

It can be Rick. I think Windows 10 has it and definitely Windows 11. You can set it to automatic in Settings in the System folder under Storage/Storage Management or you can use one of the commercial tune-up programs which include defragging. I don't know about other operating systems, and some people still like and use Windows 7.

Good morning! It is sunny and still a chilly 28o here. Later in the week the weather forecast calls for temps to get up into the low 50s.

RAMMEL

I have a laptop here that still has Win-7 on it. Rarely use it, but it still runs OK. Also still have a computer downstairs with XP on it. I keep that for one particular Program - one that was never upgraded. The 7 and XP are used so little that defragging is not needed.

Good morning everyone,
Happy New Year! Boy, the days got away from me. I've continued carding, spinning and knitting. I have finally completed both sleeves in shades that match the rest of the sweater. Today I begin assembling. Since I had a little time left yesterday evening before bed, not enough to start assembly, I began knitting my new mittens. The ones I'm using are very worn out.
My daughter, SIL and 3 grandkids came to carol me on the 31st. The eldest accompanied the carolers with his tuba, or trombone (12). I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then we exchanged gifts. My husband followed them home for the NY's celebration. Its continued mostly rainy and cold, with temps at or near freezing.

I enjoyed reading what all of you have been up to. Stay safe and warm!

Rick, I have an old mahjong game that I bought years ago on CD. It is either for Windows 7 or XP. The CD must be at least 20 years old. One of the games has moving tiles. I love the thing. Anyway, every new computer or Windows upgrade I get, I usually need to reinstall it, but Windows doesn't even flinch, including Windows 11. If worst comes to worst, I can copy the game onto a thumb drive and use that.

Well, the cats and I are fed. That only leaves a little cleaning up to do. Then I can relax the rest of the day.

patricia19

Good morning, minus 47 presently, and our low tonight is said to be minus 35. Monday is said to be warmer and minus nine. MSN Weather contradicts that and says we're remaining in the minus forties and fifties with dense ice fog. Who're you going to believe?

Morning routines, meet and greets and coffee in hand, here I sit before my laptop, checking out the world according to Garp....remember that one?

Regarding defraging a computer, I have a Lenovo laptop that defrags itself as well as downloading and implementing updates. After so much trouble with HP, Acer, and Dell, I checked around, and the Lenovo was what everyone recommended for least repairs and virus attacks. So far, after a few months, I'm pleased with the brand.

MarsGal

Thanks for the recommendation, Patricia. Sue gave me her old Lenovo all-in-one which is sitting mostly unused at the moment. The only problem I have with it. so far, is that I don't know how to get into administration since she doesn't know the administrator code. She let Jim set up all the computer stuff and networking, never bothering to learn or could not find the codes Jim used to set her up. It still shows her as administrator, and if anything needs confirmed via email, it goes to an email account she no longer uses. The only thing I can think of to do now is to wipe the whole thing and do a clean, new install. Lenovo is supposed to be one of the more compatible machines for Linux based Operating Systems.

Had a nice conversation with my sister in NC a few minutes ago. Cats' Chewy shipment just arrived.
