Cottoncandy glad you dropped in come back and post with us here. we will try to make you feel welcome. honey is pure an natural is good in and out on your body, all i can tell you now except I know it works fast and safe . don't know where to tell you to research at but will talk to my friend  and try to get back with better info,

Good morning everyone, seems like ages since I was here this early. We will be having a fire department inspection today in all the apartments. They will start at 9am and who knows where ther will begin,Yesterday was the kind of day summer should be, low humidity and in low 80's with a good breeze. This morning the humidity is back.

JANE  now the meat markets you have are what I wish we still had around here. All we have now is prepackaged meat and who know froms where and what the cattle were fed. At least I can get eggs from a farm and milk from a local dairy that claims they do not feed their herd all those chemicals they feed animals these days. Frying chickens are so big these days and even Cornish hens are almost as big as we used to get fryers.

HAL  I am with you, just enough fat for flavor, not so much that one can make a good size burger and by the time it is cooked it lost half the size.

JUNE  glad that my daughter and SIL are enjoying their new life. They are not rushing to get everything done there, doing it as the weather and their mood takes it.

SHIRLEY  they are staying inside most of the time right now in the boonies. Early morning and early evening are when they go outside. She has to go out and water her "experimental garden" twice a day in that heat. A neighbor told them this was the hottest they have had since moving there. I agree, winter cold and snow are better than the heat humidity and drought.

LLOYD  time for you to give up the machinery and enjoy your woodworking. You do beautiful work and I imagine you could sell everything you create.

JANE  I would hate to try getting ready for a week end away from home. Just getting ready for an appointment tires me. I did sleep good but not looking forward to the folks from the fire department and the manager going through my apartment looking for fire hazards. I cannot see where I have any but just having them checking everything to me is like an invasion of privacy.

HAL  for me I would have the tooth extracted. I feel at my age I would no go through all the work and expense to save a tooth.

AMY  slow down and let the grass grow before you wear yourself out. You will need some of that energy when your DH goes home again.

LLOYD  honey is great for healing and so many things. We do need those honey bees for their honey and their pollinating the food we eat.

JOAN  I have been wondering how you were doing with all that rain there.  We are in for some of the rain from the storm. Yesterday was a beautiful day but this morning it is humid and overcast again.

LARRY  I was happy to hear about the spot for a dopter landing.. That couple is their closest neighbors.

Hospital Bill...

A man suffered a serious heart attack while shopping in a store.
The store clerk called 000 when they saw him collapse to the floor.

The paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he had emergency open heart bypass surgery.

He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at the Catholic Hospital .

A nun was seated next to his bed holding a clipboard loaded with several forms, and a pen.

She asked him how he was going to pay for his treatment.   "Do you have health insurance?" she asked.

He replied in a raspy voice, "No health insurance."

The nun asked, "Do you have money in the bank?"

He replied, "No money in the bank."

Do you have a relative who could help you with the payments?" asked the irritated nun.

He said, "I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun."

The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters!

Nuns are married to God."

The patient replied, "Perfect.   Send the bill to my brother-in-law."

Mary Ann

Joan, it is good to see a post from you this morning.  It looks like you have had all sorts of weather the past few days.

Hal, I had the start of a crown at the dentist this morning.  It was almost painless.  I don't agree with Gloria about having a tooth removed at my age.  I am not happy about another crown, but I'd rather have that than a gap in my teeth.

I'm glad to see you post here, Cotton Candy, come back and join us.

Denver

A good Friday HELLO to all.

I woke up to a cool 53* morning.....burrr.  Our high today is only to be in the mid 60's!  Not even sure it will make it as it is nearly 2 PM and it is only 57!

Nice to see you joining us, COTTONCANDY.  I hope you will post again.  It is always nice to have a new friend in our group.

My hubby has been suffering with gout.  He only had this appear once before way back in 2010.  We went to our doc to pick up something for me, and they did see him and prescribed a z pack, so he is feeling much better today.  Those darn steroids sure a magical fix, but sadly they are not good at all for us.  He does not fit the typical thoughts that most think cause gout, so not sure why the flare up.

Thank you, GLORIA, for the good laugh, Hospital Bill.

Sure hope the weather has settled down in your area, JOAN.  That Cindy sure did cause some damages along the coast line.

JANIE, I hope your work day proved to not be too hard on you so you can prepare for your weekend of fun.   Enjoy.

The dryer is calling my name, so off I go.

Have a good rest of your day.

Jenny, I too suffer from Gout and take medication daily for it (Allopurinol).  Some doctors will tell you it is from too rich of food and drink and others say they really don't know.  Some years back my doctor told me:  If it is any consolation people who suffer from Gout "normally" have higher than normal intelligence.  I still don't know what causes mine, some of the stupid things I do leaves me out of the later.   ;D

Mary Ann

Hal, don't short  yourself - maybe some of the "stupid" things you've done or said were smarter than you think!

I was in earlier, but did not post. It was housekeeping morning, but that was no excuse for not posting.....so I have no excuse for not saying something. I know I dove into investigating the medical use of honey, so have tried it on a spot on my leg. I did find that the properties lie strongest in Manuka honey.

Here is more interesting material on the healing properties of honey. I find it fascinating.

Indeed, medicinal importance of honey has been documented in the world's oldest medical literatures, and since the ancient times, it has been known to possess antimicrobial property as well as wound-healing activity. The healing property of honey is due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection. Its immunomodulatory property is relevant to wound repair too. The antimicrobial activity in most honeys is due to the enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide.
Honey is gaining acceptance as an agent for the treatment of ulcers, bed sores and other skin infections resulting from burns and wounds. The healing properties of honey can be ascribed to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound environment that promotes healing, and has a high viscosity which helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection.
The support for using honey as a treatment regimen for peptic ulcers and gastritis comes from traditional folklore as well as from reports in modern times
The antimicrobial agents in honey are predominantly hydrogen peroxide.
The above information on honey for healing are sections I selected from here :https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3609166/
so if you like you can  search farther.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June Drabek

my lower legs are in very poor condition due to clogged arteries, so I am going to experiment with rubbing hydrogen peroxide of the left leg and commercial honey of the right leg and see if it can strengthen the skin against injury. Even a scratch can take a long time to heal, so I will have fun experimenting. [color=blue

Good Luck with the treatments, JUNE.

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

I'm familiar with gout, Cas had a terrible time with it.  He would have it act up every time he drank the Welch's grape juice I kept for myself (since I can't drink OJ)... or when he ate grapes.  Never could convince him not to eat or drink grape anything, but he insisted that "grapes aren't on the list not to eat with gout".  Told him that his big toe didn't read that list!  I don't drink OJ because I get sores on my tongue when I do.... but I can eat oranges once a year when they are in season & picked fairly ripe.  We aren't all alike so best to know your own body, right?  Good luck to all having allergy problems....

I finally got several photos posted over in Photos, not the best but will try to get more off the camera one of these days.  Been working on the pool today, everything out of hand being gone for a week & half.  I think I am getting lazy.  Delivered the baked chicken with potatoes plus a watermelon cut bite size... to my friend.  Her son had just finished putting a "peep hole" in the front door and a son-in-law was putting in a new type lock.  She lives in a gated community but near the gate, & those gates only keep cars out, not the people that break in!  Was good to see the kids & have food appreciated.  The chicken smelled so good I am thinking of making it again for myself.  Not tonight  ::)........I can hardly keep my eyes open.

Joan, listening to the storm news & thoughts of the vacation home your kids have, sounded like they may have had damage.  Do hope I'm wrong.

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless and send a wonderful tomorrow.  Shirley

I'm up and attem!  My suitcase is packed and my tote bag is almost packed.  Just have to add my eye drops after I shower and use them this morning.  I'm going for breakfast at my daughter's at 8:30 or so and then when they leave to go watch the parade, I'll come home, load up the doggies and the fridge stuff and take off for my sister's. I hope you all have a great day

Good morning everyone, cloudy this morning here with rain in the forecast.

LLOYD  my son has 4 beehives. Of course he has the bee outfit he puts on when he has to work at them.

COTTONCANDY  nice seeing you post here.  Lloyd is full of information about a lot of things, learned from the school of life. Hope you post more often here. We are a friendly group.

MARY ANN  it is getting harder to sit in a dentist chair so for me the easiest is having the tooth extracted.

JENNY  53° is cool at this time of year but I bet you slept good with it cooler. I know my daughter would enjoy it. Even in the mountains where they now live it has been in the 100's.  While we boil with humidity she bakes with dry heat. I loved that Hospital bill and glad you did, too.

HAL  you do stupid thing? I don't believe it. But higher intelligence? Hmm I wonder about that.

JUNE  if you can find natural honey from an orchard it is better than the commercial kind that can be mixed with inferior honey. The pure honey is the best. I hope you can find something for your legs like I wish I could find something for my back. The shots are not working so will talk to my doctor on next visit.

SHIRLEY  I think you do too much all the time. You have a big house to keep clean and I know a pool is a lot of work. Yours more so because no one uses it. Like you I was thinking of Joe's vacation house and hoing it withstood that surf.

JANE  safe driving and enjoy your week end.

JOAN  good seeing you this morning. Any word on Joe's house on the island? I sure hope it was not damaged.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it is the weekend and looks as if some of you have a big on planned, like Janie.  I know she and her sister will have some catching up to do on family things.

About the honey on wounds.  how do you keep from getting the sticky everywhere.  I cant even eat a piece of toast with honey on it and not get it all over everything.  So I don't know how June is going to manage without putting a good bandage on.

Well had something really strange happen yesterday afternoon.  The stand I keep my fireplace poker, shovel and tongs, etc on just collapsed when I put the poker back after using to get something behind the entertainment center.  Anyhow I thought something had just worked loose and I gathered up the stand and found the top holder had broken half in two.  How that happened I have no idea.  I didn't do anything to it, just placed the poker back on to the stand.  And the think is cast iron and heavy as can be.  So now I have to figure something out on how to repair, I need Lloyd and his blacksmith expertness.  Larry I also thought, who do I know who has a 3D printer.  I haven;t checked real close, but I don't think there is any company logo or name I can try to find for another part.

Well our weather guessers say 40 percent chance of rain today and tomorrow, which means there is a 60 percent chance it wont rain.  Yeah, that's me the optimist!  But seems like it can rain everywhere but at my house.

Everyone have a great day.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. Hi everyone.  The day is starting out sunny and we have a good chance of some rain this afternoon and evening. It looks like we will get to the low 90s for awhile this afternoon.  I had another good nights sleep of about nine hours and feel good this morning.  Yesterday morning I managed to wear myself down to a nub.  I have a quieter day planned today.  I will attend my 10:30 am meeting and this afternoon tune in to the PGA Golf match.  I did watch quite a bit of it yesterday afternoon.

Gloria, hope the fire department inspection wasn't too intrusive.  I am sure they had a limited area of inquiry and not like a general apartment inspection from management.  Good joke.

Cottoncandy, as several have already indicated, we hope you will join us in our daily discussions here.  A new person is always welcome.

Lloyd, I don't think I had heard that honey is safe for diabetics.

Jenny, your area has many different temperature changes so guess it doesn't get boring.  Here we mainly have hot.  It was already 83 degrees when I got up this morning.  Sorry to hear that your husband is suffering from gout.  Pat has had that a couple of times and so know it is a terrible pain.

Hal, glad to see there might be one advantage from having gout if it indicates higher than normal intelligence.

June, thanks for sharing the information on the medical benefits of using honey.

Shirley, you are a very thoughtful and caring person.  The food you prepared and gave to your friend was a wonderful gesture of caring.

Joan, hope the reports of the dwellings still standing are indicators of not much or no damage.  Is his beach house built up on those stilt type supports?

Hal, I never would have thought of having a 3D printer part made for the poker.  You must have given that poker hard use over the years.  We have no need for that implement in this house as have an electric fireplace but seldom have turned it on other than to demonstrate it.  I don't even remember what we did with your fireplace tools.

Mary Ann

Gloria, getting back to dentists - I went to my first dentist for probably 35-40 years before he retired.  He had a chair with an upright back and I do not recall it being able to be put back so the patient was lying down.  I also recall trying to open my mouth as far as it would go (and I am neither Martha Raye or Joe E Brown - remember them?).  After he retired I went to a new dentist and was surprised to see the "relaxing" chairs now in use.  Also other equipment made it unnecessary to open my mouth so wide and my jaws didn't ache any more.  I have been with this dental practice for 40 years.  My original dentist at this practice died and a young doctor took his place - and I like him.

I think we are to have a nice day today, in the mid-70s.

Joan, I hope Joe finds nothing major was done to his Dauphin Island home.

Mary Ann

halkel

Larry, it wasn't the poker that broke.  It was the stand that holds the fireplace implements.  We don't use them anymore, we have gas ,fireplace.  But set was given to us as a gift when we got this house by my step mother, so has lots of sentimental value.

Joy

Good afternoon.   Pretty sunshine now, after a little rain very early this morning.  By the time I was up around 6,  it was beginning to clear off.  I  think it is supposed to be a little cooler this week.

Joan, so nice to hear from you.  I, too, hope that your son's beach house didn't get much damage.

Larry, I have placed an order with Walmart and have a time frame for tomorrow morning.  Between 9 and 9:30.  Do you get a call or an e-mail telling you it is ready?  I am supposed to get an e-mail about 15 min. before telling me the order is ready.  Then, I will call a special number and let them know I am on the way.  My DIL  is going to pick it up, but I am going with her this first time.  It was pretty easy making up the order and it sounds like it will be easy to pick up the order.  I am anxious just to see how everything is. I did order a few produce items, so I am particularly anxious to see them.  As, I usually don't like Walmart's produce.  But,  hopefully,  I still  will get to go to a produce stand once in a while over the summer.  I have to depend on someone taking me and I don't like to bother my family that often.  My DIL does go by a nice produce stand on her way home from work, so  she does stop once in a while and picks up some fresh veggies.  They only live about 10 min. from me and they have to go right past my place to get to Walmart and another grocery store, so it usually works out pretty well.  Just so difficult when you have to give up your independence and have to depend on other people to do things for you.    I know that Gloria has the same problems.

Time for lunch, so hope everyone will have a nice afternoon.

I lost my crown!  Well, the crown on a back tooth just installed last week - came off while dipping bread in a broth.  Crum bum

Cotton Candy:  Where in SW TX?  We lived in Plano for 9 years - transferred from a tiny town in Minnesota.  Loved the TX attitude!

Lloyd - thank Heaven for your safety.  Try to stay out of trouble.

Gloria:  Good thoughts from you!

Jenny:  Sorry that Bob is suffering gout.  It is supposed to be very painful.

Shirley:  Lazy - that will be the day when you are ever lazy.

Joan:  Always great to see you posting.

We are back from high altitude.  Spotted one yearling moose walking in the pond where we were fishing.  Too many people taking pictures until one man (resident) yelled - "let the moose go where it wants to go" and you could see the little one was stressed.  Finally, people stepped back - the moose was eyeing a small dog and that is not a good sign.   Don caught 3 good size Rainbow Trout and released them.  The trout stole all of my bait.  The morning we left, there was ice on the car so it was freezing.  .

Joy:  Let anyone help you who mentions they would like to run an errand for you. We love to help our neighbors when needed and they in turn have been generous with us.  Hopefully, you will have great veggies to choose.

Joy

Carol,

I have never really run into too many people who very readily offer to help.  Most of the people where I live are all in need of help themselves.   I  have also found people who won't take anyone in their car who have to use a walker or a cane.  And, in the area where I live,  there is no public transportation.  Several county run transportation services, but you have to go on their schedule.  I am very willing to pay someone at times when I need transportation, but that kind of help is very scarce in my area.  There is a one taxi service, and one time,  I paid $60 to go about 6 miles.  Not too many seniors can afford those prices.

I have 2 sons who live close by and they are available if I really need them.  I have 2 daughter-in=laws who do see that I get to my doctor appts.  But, just the fact, that you can't just pick up and go when you want to can be a little depressing.  But, I try to manage as good as I can.  Just not like it was.  However, I am grateful that I can still live on my own and take care of myself and my apartment.  And, I enjoy reading so I spend a lot of time reading and of course,  my computer is my lifeline to the world.  I can go anyplace I want via the internet.  LOL

I, too, liked to help people when I was able to.  For most of my younger life,  it seems my mother was always taking care of somebody.  Had an aunt that lived with us for a while,  and several  sick relatives that she took care of.  I know it gave me a lot of satisfaction to help out at various times.

I know where I live, an Independent Living Senior Apartments, there are many residents who do have relatives that could help, but they hardly come around.   And, there are people here who do not have any family members to help them.  And, some of those situations are very sad. Heartbreaking when they will tell you that they never see or hear anything from their children or get to see their grandchildren.  And, this place does not offer any kind of transportation help.

Thanks, tho, for your imput.

Janie, do enjoy your weekend with you sister. I am so glad you have your sisters. I am the last of my clan, but happy to have my kids and their kids, and their kids, kids. God is Good.

Bis, So very very happy to see your smiling face and post this morning. I am coming in late again..late for all that do not live on the left coast that is.  I hope your stormy weather is a thing of the past. What floor is your apartment on ? This is a shot of my floor plan, much smaller that yours, but it is all that I need.

Gloria, I smeared my right lower leg with honey last night, and put on a paper bandage to keep my clean sheet clean. the bandage fell off during the night and I woke with a sticky leg. Had a good shower, and will just use a small area as a trial test that can be taped on easily. But I will continue with the test. My legs are not curable as the problem starts with the arteries that nothing external will cure, but the skin itself itches and discolors and roughens so the use of the honey is what I'm looking at.

Hal, my  use of honey is explained above. It can be a sticky mess for sure. but if one has a small sore that can be easily bandaged is would be comfortable. From just an overnight test, the leg with the hydrogen peroxide looks and feels better than the honeyed leg. My sister in law cured her gum disease by gargling with hydrogen peroxide.

Larry, in my estimation the honey cure is surely for an open injury that needs to be bandaged. The honey seals the sore and protects it from germs, and the action that honey gives out Hydrogen preroxide heals the sore. I am not a doctor as you all well know…it is just what is going on in my brain.

Time for me to prepare to go down for lunch. I'm going to eat a half serving today and go back down for supper…oven fried chicken tonight….my favorite.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Carol

Joy:  Your note on your lack of transportation conditions makes me feel sad.  It is hard for me to think that there are no people in the area who see the need for transportation when there is a senior living site.  $60 for 6 miles is a disgusting price to pay. My only suggestion is to have the subject brought up in meetings.  Everyone, including groups such as churches or synagogues many not be aware of this issue.  Best to you and all who live in your building.

June Drabek

Here at Rowntree Gardens we have a young man that furnishes transportation for 16 dollars an hour. I have used him for trips to the doctor, and he stays with me at all times. The most I have ever paid is $22.50. He handles my cart, and walks beside me in case I need more help. A very attentive young man. I feel very fortunate living here. They really care.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Adding to your discussion about transportation ~ IT is a serious issue among the aged..... It's not easy to obtain such , especially in Rural America.
$1.00 per loaded mile is the rate here by a  Northland Area Agency on Aging, to assist the Elderly and Poor..... thus to obtain transportation to a Medical Facility where many procedures and specialists are 67 miles away the round trip is $134.00
Most cannot afford such...
So folks Pray for those without medical attention due to .
