The old man had died.  A wonderful funeral was in progress and the country preacher talked at length of the good traits of the deceased, what an honest man he was, and what a loving husband and kind father he was.

Finally, the widow leaned over and whispered to one of her children,

Good Morning,

Looks as if I'm the first one in the new Soda Shoppe.  Love the graphic.

Family and I are going to Tulsa to see Miss Ellen in Theater Tulsa's 95 Anniversary "Epic Celebration".   I've been told she's in a duet, a quartet and the Chorus.  That's all I know about it.
Ellen is in her last week of a 3 week visit before returning to NYC.   I've only spent time with her once but we covered a lot of conversational territory.

Good morning everyone, beautiful one here, the humidity is gone and it is cooler and refreshing.

JOAN  that is good news that the houses on Dauphin Island are still standing. Bining on piles helps water go under and not through the houses.

HAL  guess you would put a thin coating of honey on a wound and keep clothing away from it. Could have been a flaw in that stand to make it break in half? Right now I am happy to see a few days without rain and the dampness that goes with it. Wish I could send the next storm your way.

LARRY  that fire department inspection was a joke. Supposed to start at 9am and one fireman showed up at 11am. He, the manager and the maintenance man got to my apartment atout 11:30. All he did was check the fire alarms in the apartments. From the notice the manager sent to all of us she said he would be checking stoves, outlets to make sure they were not blocked and light switches. Her way of making sure we had everything perfect. Have yet to talk to anyone in this building who likes her.

MARY ANN  being short they always have to put a pillow under my head in the dentist chair. They also know I cannot lie flat so they put the chair down and will wait for me to say OK. I just cannot sit anywhere for long before I start moving, always trying to find a spot where my back feel OK.

JOY  I send my CNA to the market for me with a list of what I want.  If I put a brand name for something she knows if they do not have it not to get a different brand. Younger son comes here on a weekend and always calls and asks if I need anything. He will get the fresh produce for me. He knows what I like and how fussy I am about it.
I still miss being able to do things for myself.

CAROL  sorry about that crown. Who would think bread would make it some off.

JOY  like you there is no one in this place who could pick up the rollator to put in their car so I have to call Logistic care for rides but only for doctor appointments. Last time they picked me up so early I have an hour wait while the doctor and staff were on their lunch break. One time I waited 2 hours for them to pick me up to come home. This town has one car to take seniors to doctor appointments and they are always booked. I now call them as soon as I get an appointment. I am lucky that I have them booked for all my appointments in July. No getting places too early and they stay there so no waiting to come home. They do that 3 days a week. The other 2 days they drive a mini bus to go to a local market on Wednesday and a nearby mall on Friday. There are 2 drivers and both are very nice. Same here, they do not do much to help the residents and there are some who never see family members. That is sad.

CAROL  as far as I know this town is the only one who has a car to help seniors get to appointments.  There is 4 senior housing places here and only the one car but when we can book it it is great. One time when I called Logistic care the girl I talked to wanted me to walk to the corner and get the public transportation bus. Even with my rollator I would not be able to walk that far. She was the only nasty one I ever spoke with there. Some of their drivers are polite and others I have my fingers crossed to get home safe.

LLOYD   glad you stayed away from those big machines yesterday.  Now if you would learn to stay away from them all the time you might avoid so many accidents.

AMY  with all you have going on do not apologize for not talking to everyone. We understand how very busy you are. As long as you come in for a few words so we know everything is OK that is enough. Prayers for both of you.

HAL  the only way I will eat a hard boiled egg is in a salad or deviled eggs.

JOAN   I wish you a wonderful Sunday.

LARRY  yesterday I woke to rain and it rained till noon, real downpours at times. Even with rain the sprinklers here are timed to run every morning.

JOY  the CNA's and housekeepers that come here from different agencies cannot take anyone in their cars.  If needed they can go with the client on a bus or whatever to an appointment. It is something about the company's' insurance even if the helpers have their own insurance.

Dot and I went to church this morning, but we did not go OTB together.  She was expecting her granddaughter and twin great-grandsons about the time we would be out, so I went OTB with Tom.  It turned out that Dot's granddaughter and family were detained in Chicago because of a flat tire so they had not made it here by the time we were out of church.

If I eat boiled eggs alone, I like to put mayo on them, not much, but gives them a bit of flavor.  I also like deviled eggs. 

Amazon has just bought Whole Foods.  We don't have either store around here, but we do have Total Foods(?), but they are kitty corner in the county from us so we don't go there.  We do have a large farmer's market near here but if we would go there, we might buy two ears of corn and a tomato at a time, maybe more another time and it isn't on the beaten path to either of our supermarkets.  i have not been disappointed in the produce from either supermarket, so i think we'll continue to shop the way we have been.

Grand Haven is getting busy today and there are lots of whitecaps on the lake.  I wouldn't be surprised to see some kites later in the day.

Joan, I think most of us would want you to just show up so we know you're getting along OK.  As far as graphics and chuckles are concerned, I do enjoy them, but I can exist without them as long as people post often enough to let us know they're here.

A good Sunday morning HELLO to all. 

I enjoyed reading all the posts.  Appreciate the comments regarding gout...seems it is well know that it can sure be miserable.  Bob is so much better.....and very thankful that the Meds worked so quickly. 

HAL, my Bob will like to hear your thoughts on more intelligent people having gout!  At this point, that would be one of the only things that match up to him rather than the food/drinks that the medical books tell is what causes it.

Friday night, Dr. Dave dropped Grandson Luke, and Lola dog off to spend the weekend with us.  They spent the weekend in Vail with friends and Luke said he would rather stay with us.  He is a good boy and we always love having him here.   

Yesterday afternoon we went to our local recreation center to swim.  There are four of them in our community.  The one we go to is more for children and seniors.  Each one of centers has a particular themed area.  I was walking in the lazy river with Crocks on my feet to give more stability for me and to have some resistance in the water.  Unfortunately, I managed to pull something in my right knee, so spent the rest of the day hobbling around. It bothered me quite a bit in the night.  It is somewhat better today.  I will just have to take it a bit easy today. 

CAROL, good to read that you and Don enjoy your time at the lake.  I am sorry to read about your new crown coming off!  It is nice for you to get away, and especially when it gives you time with your son.   We hope to get up to Vail soon.  Not sure when, as we have a lot going on the next couple of weeks.  Brian will be driving one of their cars with Oliver, the Australian Laberdoodle.  He will stay with us while Brian flies back to Austin to have their household goods packed, and drive the second car up.  Then our Boston son, who owns the home in Vail, along with our two grandson's will be driving out just after the 4th to spend the month of July at their place.  July is a big month for us, with our 50th Anniversary celebration being at the end of the month.  Yesterday we had a conference call with all of the sons and DIL's on the call, telling us the plans they have arranged for our anniversary celebration, and it is EXACTLY what we would like to have them do for us, so we were smiling from ear to ear after we heard the news. 

GLORIA, I am sorry to read it appears the shot is not working as well for your back.  You need the little steroid pack my hubby got for the gout, as he is moving around like a spring chicken as his back is not hurting him like it normally does.  Those darn steroids are magic!  Sure is a shame they are not good for us. 

JOY, your telling of the issue you have not being able to get out and about, along with others sharing their thoughts is a very worrisome situation.  Sadly, many elderly people never have visitors or family that bother to come to help them out.  Make me very tearful.  We try to help those in our community if we can, as we are still able to get out and do things. 

SHIRLEY, I must admit that I worry about you as much as we all worry about LLOYD, as you just push yourself much too hard.  You have way more on your plate than you need with all the property, pool and the needy kitties.  You always have so much to do.  Please try to take it a bit easier.  Oh how I wish you could just spend the summer out here in CO with your kitties and not have all the responsibilities of your home. 

JANE, I am thinking about you as you and the doggies are off visiting your sister.  Safe travels. 

JOAN, I, too, have been thinking about Kate and Joe's place on the island, and hope they will find no significant damage.  Boy the water on the gulf coast sure was rough in the news coverage I saw.  The beach was packed full of people on Panama City Beach, but no one was allowed in the water as it was as rough as could be.  I agree, we do not need your wonderful goodies you have had for us over the years....we can get by very happily with just the needed maintenance that you and JEANNE LEE, can do to keep us going.  Someone posting a little tidbit now and then is just a fun thing, and that is all we need.  Just so happy to have you back posting again. 

CALLIE, happy to read the family will be going to watch Ms. Ellen.

Larry, when I lived in charleston, I found everyone friendly, As far as I know it is still considered The Friendliest City in the US. Of course that is where I met my future husband.They were our neighbors, when we moved to the Navy Yard.  The first thing His mother came over and brought my mother fresh okra, of course my being from the North had never seen or heard of it, so she boiled it.  What a mess. Needless to say it went in the garbage

JeanneLee, thank you and Phyllis for the beautiful graphic.   You are a dear for still help Joan..  That is what this forum is about.

Amy, I am still keeping you  and your husband in my prays.

MaryAnnn, I now have eggs boiling, one for and egg sandwich, and one for breakfast to morrow morning.

Joy, I have kept my car, so now I still can ask one of two neighbors to take me to, appointments and shopping. Other neighbors take me to club and luncheon affairs. The town bus, does stop at the office, also the senior bus takes you to appointment, mall and to lunch at the center.  they will send a town car for me as I am over 90. so I guess we are lucky.  This park, has 580 homes, and there are quite a few other senior parks around here.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers Gloria de and Jenny. Hubby seemed to be a bit better today and as usual we took off after lunch to explore the hospital and just to get him out of the room. One can't say our lives are boring as today wasn't!! We went on the elevator to the 5th floor to look out at the rain and hail falling..after a bit we decided to go back to his room. The elevator doors opened ,I pushed his wheelchair in ,turned him around to face the doors and the lights went out!!! Thankfully they soon came back on but that was all that came on, the elevator would not move or the doors open. Apparently the hospital had been struck by lightning causing to elevators to not work.......and we were in one of them! Pushing the help button got me a nice lady explaining help was on the way and would be there is 30-40 min...Do you know how long 30 - 40 mins is to a person with claustrophobia??? Eventually we did get going and I must admit I was so thankful to get out of that elevator!!!

I had a slow start today, so didn't get in to say Good Morning, It truly is a VERY good morning, when I see not just One But Two post from our beloved Bis/Joan.

I did get to Chapel, though I felt sort of "iffy",and oh my, our guest preacher did go on and on and on. He is a very good and devoted man. He does prison ministry. I am proud of him and his work, but a full hour of preaching was a bit much. He has a very bad heart…claims they put a zipper on his chest…so his
true devotion to his work is very evident.

It is now time to go down for lunch, so I will "do it", and come back to converse with you on my note pad.

Had a vegetarian lunch, by choice, then came home and guess what ? I fell asleep in my recliner. Then my doorbell rang and it was my son Gary and my DIlove Dori. What a welcome surprise. They leave tomorrow for a two and a half week vacation to their kids and Grandkids in Idaho.

Jeanne Lee, what would we do without you ??? You are our life saver for sure.

Amy, I live on the third floor and our elevators sometimes get tired and quit, so because i have a cart with me, with a basket under the seat, plus a small cloth bag which contains water, and hard candies and other things, plus a cell phone in my pocket, and a book, I do not fear a short failure. At least I don't think I do. I may find I am claustrophobic if I ever have an experience like yours.

Sandy, I am assuming it is very windy on the rocky coast of Maine. Hang in there girl.

Gloria, I enjoy warm hard boiled eggs chopped up in a bowl with butter and salt and pepper…for any meal. Trouble is, a microwave cannot make a good boiled egg. I have no surface cooking here.

Callie, I know you are going to be delighted to see Miss Ellen when you attend the program in Tulsa. You must be very proud of her.

Phyllis, what a delightful portrait  of a little girls tea party. I was never dressed so delicately when I was that age. Alas.

I am try to decide if I really want to go downstairs for supper, or if I would rather get into my nighty and fix something at home…..I'm not really hungry….I will stay home. But I will take a walk around the gardens first. Hope to see you later. June

Have a great rest of the day. oldest daughter and husband and grand daughter and husband and two of there children came and had noon meal with us, great get to gather. we visited and watched a movie ( girl of the Limberlost)

June, I bought an electric egg cooker some time ago... it will hard boil eggs & has several different parts to cook eggs other ways.  For lack of counter space, it sits up high in a cabinet.  But if I didn't have a gas stove & pans to boil eggs, I'd find it handy.  I just Googled on Amazon & they have a lot of different types.  I love hard boiled eggs, will quarter & salt & they go down great with toast that has lots of butter on.  Yum......... 

Been out working on the well with my son, has sand in it & clogging up the sprinkler heads.  Hope to get the pump back in tomorrow & want to hide before anything else goes wrong. 

Cooled down already this evening so plan to open the house for fresh air sleeping.  Having to keep my eye brows raised to keep my eyes open as it is.  Sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

Tisie, I'll check our elec. egg boilers on google, and see what it says. I have very little counter space too, but could tuck it away in a cupboard when not in use.

I had a good time staying at home after my walk, fixed a lettuce salad and added a small can of white chicken meat....went down nicely. Now it is time to get ready for bed. Hugs, Love and Prayers all around. June

Good morning.  It is supposed to be a cooler, low humidity day here and I'm all in favor of that!

Thanks, Jeanne Lee, for posting the tea party graphic.  I'm glad that you have a lot of my old graphics saved.  I lost most of them when my computer crashed a couple of years ago.

When I was 3 or 4, I think, my dad built a little table and some small chairs for me so I could have tea parties with my dolls.  Alas!  I wasn't really a doll and tea party kind of child.  I was more of a run, jump and climb trees kid.  I wanted to do what my older brothers did and they certainly did not do tea parties!  But, I still have that little table and use it as a side table to the couch in my family room.  It is a treasure to me.

Joan, I agree.  We just want to hear from you and know that you are doing ok.  Don't worry about the Sunday Stuff!  It always was a lot of work for you.

I, thankfully, am not claustrophobic, Amy, but can sympathize with someone who is.  That was a long time to spend stuck in an elevator!  Glad you finally escaped.

Lloyd that is really cool weather you have early this morning.  Wished we had some of it.  Rained, again, lots of places close by but none at my house.  Got one more day of scattered showers, hopefully......

Phyliss, I can believe that table is a treasure.  I used to have a few items made by Grandfather, my Dad wasn't much of a handyman, the last one was a toy box made by an uncle.  I refurbished it into a hope chest for my youngest daughter and she gave it to her boys for the original use, a toy box and they destroyed it. 

Joanie, good morning to you.  Hope you are feeling up to snuff this morning.  How you liking your new digs.

Coffee is ready, who wants to join me on the patio.

Good morning everyone, had a brief shower late afternoon yesterday. Cooled it enough to sleep good with just the fan in the window. Sky is beautiful blue and I see no clouds.

JOAN  it is YOU we want to see every day not all the goodies you always found for us.

JENNY  the first cortisone shot worked in my back but the last 2 did nothing after 1 day. The more I read about those shots the less I want anymore of them.

AMY  I am not claustrophobic but I would not getting stuck in an elevator.

Have to get moving, my CNA is here already and I have to finish my shopping list for her.

Hi everyone. We have a nice clear morning with little chance of rain today but getting into the high 80's.  Other than a quick trip to Aldi's to pick up a few groceries and produce my day is clear.  I am glad of that as even after a good nights sleep I woke up tired this morning so will plan to have a quiet and restful day.  We did make it to Sunday School and Church yesterday and then ate lunch at Ruby Tuesdays. 

About 3:30 yesterday I tuned in to the PGA Men's golf tournament and it ended up being an exciting one with a playoff required.  Jordan Spieth, who had led throughout the tournament made a spectacular shot from the sand bunker right into the hole to come out the winner.  This was his 10th win on the PGA and he is only 24 years old.  It looks like he is headed to a great career.

Joy, I was pretty confident that you would be pleased with the online grocery ordering with the set-time pickup.  It sure beats walking or riding on cart thru those long aisles.  Glad to see you are happy with the produce.  It would be bad business to not try to send good produce.  I found that if you haven't heard from them it is good to call.  A few orders ago we hadn't heard and I went ahead to pick up the order only to find it hadn't been prepared yet.  However, all the other orders have been ready on time.  We have six pickup spots and haven't seen more than one or two other cars there to pickup when I was there.  I see they usually have young folks working in that area and I expect they also fill the orders, probably in the early morning hours.  Sometimes after getting to the pickup point I have had to wait a few minutes but never too long and better sitting in the car than walking those aisles.

Jeanne, thanks for starting the new week and sharing the nice graphic that Phyllis made.

Callie, I hope you enjoyed your trip to Tulsa and the "Epic Celebration". 

Gloria, always good to have the fire alarms checked and next time you will know what to expect.  Do your apartments have sprinkler systems installed for fire safety?   Glad your town provides alternative transportation sources for its senior citizens.  I suppose it is easier to just let the sprinklers run automatically on a daily basis than to turn them off and on.  I prefer to save the water and the cost when we did rains that soak the yard. 

Joan, knowing that most of us probably don't remember what we read last month or last year why not recycle from the archives or the older discussions.  We enjoy the repeat graphics and you have found such a wealth of information to share that you would no longer have to work so hard finding hew material.  At least for me the old would be new again.  However, I agree with Mary Ann and others it is seeing you post that is most important.

Jenny, hope your knee is feeling better today.   Is the lazy river area just a shallow pool? Nice that your children shared their plans for the 50th wedding anniversary.  When we had ours it basically went unnoticed as we didn't do anything special for it as neither of us were feeling up to it. I am sure we went out to eat for a special meal and that would have been it. 

deAngel, I think the first time I saw okra was at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and it was fixed with tomatoes and just looked disgusting.  I don't mind okra in soup but that is about it.  I hope you are feeling less tired today. 

Amy, did they have an emergency light in the elevator or were you in total darkness when it stopped.  That must have been quite a storm for lightning to hit the hospital. 

June, I have a tendency to tune out someone who goes on and on like your guest preacher did.  It sounds like he didn't really take his audience into consideration. Do you keep a small flashlight in your rollator bag?

Lloyd, one reason we enjoy Netflix and Amazon Video is the lack of commercials.  The loud so called music often accompanying most commercials really gets on my nerves  and I about wear out my mute button on the remote. 

Phyllis, I still have memories of the little table and chairs  my sister and I had and also the one we had for your children.  Of course we no longer have either table.

My dad taught woodshop when he taught in West Virginia.  He made me a little dish cupboard that also had a drawer at the bottom.  When I outgrew it, Norm took over and pasted pictures of airplanes on it.  I think when I had it, it was blue, but now is grey.  One door came off, but I still have the door and the hinge is on the door.  I have often threatened to paint it but I've never gotten around to it.  Right now it stores kids' books and is ready for the new generation.

Dad also made a gateleg table and a blanket chest in WVa, both of which I still have.  After one of his students cut off a finger, Dad decided woodworking was not for him and when we came to Michigan, he switched to printing presses.  I took one semester of printing and printed the tickets for home basketball and football games. 

Larry, Daniel Berger is only 24 years old too and I think he and Spieth will be good competitors in years to come.  I find I don't have a favorite player, but I love to watch the new, young players come up and develop.  Of course, I like some of the older players who are proving they're still able to compete with the younger ones.  It was a great tour this past weekend.

I wonder if it is possible to go back to the beginning of S&F and repeat the graphics and chuckles and we'd never know the difference.  However, I can get along without them too just being able to chat and/or listen to what is going on with everyone.

Norm's first wife was claustrophobic.  When I had a cottage, she'd take the boys there and it was necessary to go in the crawl space to prime the pump to have water.  The space was wide enough, but not high enough to stand.  She mastered the priming by standing in the access to the crawl space before she got down to get things going.

Of course we can revive past Soda Shoppe offering!  One drawback at this point is that when we had the last major site crash in January everything before that was lost.  So we now start SS at January 15, 2017.   I do have some graphics that had been intended for SS (that's what I've been using) and some laughs I've saved as well, and when Joan is ready to take over I'll gladly provide those for her, as well.

Jeanne Lee, that's kind of what I had in mind, but I didn't know the date of the crash and our "revival".  It's the end of June now so going back nearly six months would not be too bad.  I really don't care.  While the graphics and chuckles are nice, it is the contact with everyone, finding out what they are doing, how they are feeling, that is more important.  So as far as I'm concerned (my opinion only), if things are left as they are, it's OK with me.  It won't drive me away (you'll have to find some other method!).

Larry,  shame on the Tinker Air Base cooks who served you okra and stewed tomatoes instead of good ole "Suthren Fried Okry"!  No wonder you didn't like it.
My family used to eat fried okra like popcorn.

The trip to Tulsa was nice but the show was "ho-hum".   I think the theatre had "suddenly" decided to do something for the 95th anniversary of its founding and just threw together a bunch of songs from musicals they'd done.
Ellen had solos in a duet of "I'll Know When My Love Comes Along" and a quartet of "It's Too Darn Hot".   It had been a very long time since I'd heard her stand at a microphone and just sing.  Her voice has certainly matured.

Not much going on in my little part of the world this week.

Well, I tried the Walmart pick up, too.  Overall I'm pleased, but unfortunately they don't accept food stamps, so I still need to make a few purchases at another store.  But I can at least make sure the food stamp purchases are for the lighter weight and less bulky food items.

Hello Everyfriend!  I got home about 20 minutes before my cleaning dynamo was finished with her weekly do.  We agreed not to start on the cupboards because she still wasn't feeling well and I was really tired.  As soon as she left, I got some lunch and then took a short nap.  I feel pretty good now.

JEANNELEE, I want to clarify something.  WalMart DOES accept food stamps.  They just don't do them on line. I'm thinking that it won't be long before they devise a way to solve that problem so keep asking.

I'm not going to comment directly to anyone else since there are so many entries.  I just want to say that it's good to be back among friends.  I'll "see" you all later.  I had a great visit with my sister and brother and a nice birthday celebration for Bethany and a pleasant afternoon at my niece's home.  It was a beautiful day to be out on the deck.

Good morning all, A quiet day so far, went for a walk in  the garden, then stopped in to read todays menu, joined an exercise class that was already in progress, stopped and got some lettuce and celery to bring home, then turned on the tv…a lot of nonsense, so read  a bit instead.

Phyllis, what a good Dad you had. I'll bet he cherished his little girl. I was not a tea party girl either . Lived in a neighborhood with no girls my age, just boys.

We are starting our deck work and readying it for a grandson to stain all.  Don and I moved everything but the big BBQ.  Whew - resting a bit and off to buy plastic sheeting for any dripping, lots of bleach to use before staining, etc.  This may be the last time we ever do this job - so we vow but we break our vows of stupid things all the time. 

Joy:  That pickup is really nice.  Inside our store there are sometimes two but mainly one human checker.  Then, the little automatic checkers freeze when they see us coming near.  At our WM, they put things in the wrong places and they stop selling the item we want - we are not considered average shoppers I believe.  Irksome - so we have to go to several stores and especially another one just for produce. 
I didn't mean to go on and on.

Gloria:  Your manager seems to have a sour attitude.  I hope she changes and someone better takes the job. 

Joan:  You are doing great.  Always nice to see you posting - we consider your time off like a drought.

Jenny:  What are your anniversary plans.  We'll keep it secret.   ::) 

Don has big ideas on visiting family all over the country - we shall see.

Good morning everyone!!!

Today is going to be the best day..hubby is finally coming home.!! Dr was in last night and said he would release him this morning.I have made a call to the pharmacy to get the meds ready for pick up and everything else is in order. Physio has been set up and will be phoned for appointment times. I will admit I won't miss the daily drive to the city :thumbup: Will have to put the dogs outside first before he comes in or they will be all over him.

Hi everyone. We are suppose to have a partly cloudy to mostly cloudy day and will get up to around 90 degrees this afternoon.  I plan a very restful day today as still feeling weary.  I don't plan on going anywhere today as did get to Aldi's yesterday. 

Last evening when I went to brush my teeth my electric toothbrush bite the dust.  I changed the batteries but that didn't solve the problem so it is time to just get a new electric toothbrush.  I will order it from Amazon and probably have it tomorrow. I have folded a load of laundry that Pat did yesterday and put it away and emptied the dishwasher.  Pat fixed her own breakfast this morning and that was a help.  She seems to be feeling a lot better and not requiring as much help as she did for those many months.

Mary Ann, with so many good young golfers now there is going to be stiff competition every week.  Since golf is generally played solo and not as teams they are really competing against themselves.  It is nice to see that even the best golfers make some terrible shots and that has to be encouraging to amateur golfers. 

Hal, we have some winning golfers living in South Carolina, including several from Augusta and also Aiken County (where I live) here in South Carolina.  Glad to see I am not the only one who discover things in places and don't even remember that I had it to begin with. 

Jeanne, I had lost site of the loss of files prior to January 15, 2017.  When Joan gets back to where she is up to her wonderful postings daily we could lend a helping hand sometimes by sending her via email nice humor or thoughtful pieces for her consideration that she wouldn't have to dig through the Internet for. Glad you had a positive experience with Walmart and too bad they can't accept food stamps with the online ordering service. 

Callie, I have eaten fried okra and it was doable for me but not that crazy about tomatoes and can still see in my mind those big pans of slimy looking tomato and okra in the cafeteria line.  UGH!  Nice you could hear Ellen sing some solos or solo parts of songs.

Jane, those cabinets will wait another week or so.  Glad you had an enjoyable trip.  Did the dogs enjoy the trip and the extra attention they undoubtedly got. 

June, do you ever get well trained dogs coming to visit the residents of your facility? If your elevators don't have emergency lights, which they probably do, having that flashlight handy would be nice to have. 

Carol, it seems I usually get in a checkout line where their is some kind of problem for a customer in line ahead of me that requires a manager or a price check.  However, that doesn't seem to be a bad as it used to be. 

Amy, glad today is the day for your husband to return home to continue his recovery.  I bet those are going to be happy dogs and wise to be sure he is sitting down when they first see him so they don't knock him down.

Good morning everyone, I think I almost slept the clock around. Went down to the mid 50's last night. My kind of temperature for sleeping. Overcast this morning, rain due late afternoon.

LARRY  the grocery delivery I use also has a place where people can pick up their orders. That must be great for those who work all day and can pick up their orders on the way home.  I am glad they deliver. Only thing I was not happy with was I had ordered some lunch meat and picked the thin sliced but what I got was not thin so I never ordered any again.  Every month or so they check the fire alarms on each floor but this is the first time they have checked them in the apartments this way. There are 4 sprinklers in each apartment.

MARY ANN  my FIL printed the high school yearbooks and diplomas being the only printer in town. My 2 sons learned how to run the presses there and my daughter did the printing for the school where she worked.  I did a lot of proofreading for him.

JEANNE LEE  I was surprised to see some of the old graphics after everything was lost. Did you save any of the graphics you made? I know I have a lot of mine, hated to delete them. Like the Walmart pick up, PeaPod does not take food stamps and that is where I order heavy and bulky items.  When I order from Schwans they do take food stamps and that helps. Other than that I send my CNA to the market and when my son comes up on the Weekend he always calls and asks if I need anything.

JANE  glad you had a good week end with family.

JUNE  I was never one to play with dolls. give me a book or a jigsaw puzzle and I was happy. I have a small flashlight with a lanyard that I keep in the pouch on my rollator and at night I hang it on the right handle. I have several flashlights around in here.

CAROL  every once in awhile someone will say everyone here should get together and get in touch with the building owners but nothing happens. Many are afraid of her, if they get evicted they would have no place to go.

AMY  that is good news. I am happy for both of you.

Gloria, my dad's shop in the school did not print the yearbook, however, in his last several  years, he was the advisor for the yearbook.  He took our old coal cellar and made it into a darkroom so he did print many of the pictures that went into the yearbook.  One thing the older students printed was a weekly school newspaper.  I had only one semester of printing before some boys got in trouble at another school in the foods classes so girls could no longer take shop courses and boys could not take home ec classes.  But I printed the football and basketball home tickets for three years and it was a way of earning money.  The yearbooks were printed by a commercial printing company. 

Today being Tuesday, we are going to lunch with Jan, her parents and Dot.  I think Tom had not wanted to eat out today as he had a doctor's appointment but he was not gone long.  Jan probably called to see if we could do it and they are coming to our side of town.  When Tom is away from home, he is not working and he doesn't like to be gone too often.

Joan, we are warming up a bit, it's 73 degrees now and yesterday we never got up to 70 degrees.

taken your advice and tucked a little flash light in my travel bag. I even keep a small bottle of water in there, and hard candies.

Mary Ann, in my area the high will be 81, but the third floor gets very warm so I'm sure I will need the A/C.

Bis, I have been at Rowntree for nearly a year and a half now, and I am still getting used to where I put things, and my desk drawer still needs to be sorted through. Do you get meals where you live or are you cooking ?

Gloria, when I lived at Sunwest, I started a Council and it worked fine. As a group we had more "say" it what was wrong, and folks were not afraid to speak up. Your manager should realize she is a paid employee, not the owner. If you know who owns your place you could write an anonymous letter and let them know how unhappy most of your people are with the management. Even advise them of what she is doing wrong.

June, when the outside temperature is 80 or above, that is the signal to turn on the a/c.  Today is beautiful and 70 degrees; I can live comfortably with that.

Lunch today at Russ' an area chain.  The meals are more simple; for instance, a salad does not cover a 10" plate, but is much smaller.  I had a chicken salad with fruit plate and it was more than I needed.  I don't care for cantaloupe and told the server if that was the fruit to forget it.  She suggested strawberries and grapes and I also had half a banana.  I brought home the strawberries and grapes, also the muffin that went with the meal.  The salad was a large scoop of salad, just the amount I like.

OK, this is mostly for JeannLee but also for anyone else who is interested or has friends or family members who are interested.

I went in a bit early today and tracked down our Store Manager who is unfailing helpful when you have a problem or a request.  I told him I have a Senior Citizen friend who doesn't drive and used WM's on line shopping service for the first time.  I told him that she was pleased with the service and the products but was disappointed that she could not use her Food Stamps Card.  He agreed that that is a problem that needs to be investigated.

Now, my mother told us that you don't register a complaint unless you can suggest a solution to the problem and I was prepared.  I asked him if he thought they might look into having Senior Citizens and Disabled persons visit the store one time and register their card so that when they order on line, it can be used.  They would have to establish some sort of ID but maybe it would solve the problem.  My manager said, "You know, that sounds like something we should consider.  I'll pass it on." 

So i hope I've set the wheels in motion.  Maybe not this month and maybe not next month but I'm betting someone will come up with something that will work and then we'll be off and running. 

KEEP ASKING!  If people ask, WM usually listens.  They kept the fabric departments in most of the stores because of a write in campaign and I started that with my sister.  She did it and passed it on.  You don't get anything if you don't ask these days.

JeanneLee, if your up to it, write a letter to corporate headquarters.

If that's WM you're talking about I know the answer to that.  If you have a WM credit card, there are levels that can be charged for different times with no interest charges but if you lapse, they charge the full interest from the time you charged.  There are different levels for different charges.....for instance, if your charge is $200. you have 6 months to pay it interest free.  There are 6, 12 and 18 month levels interest free.

There are also on line items that offer a discount if you are willing to go to a store and pick it up instead of having it shipped to your home.  These items are also shipped free.

There are lots of perks.  But you have to look for them and most of them must be charged to your WM Master Card.  If you have more than one, they are listed separately on your billing.  And the one thing you do have to do if you have more than one, is call them after you make a payment and tell them that you want the payment divided on both charges.  They are very nice about it but you do have to call every time.

Janie, it was for someplace I never heard of.  I know lots of places will waive the interest if the balance is paid in a certain time and I'm OK with that.  But my question is:  it says "no payments, no interest if paid in full."  How can it be paid in full if there are no payments?  :D  Seems like it needed to be proof read before posting.

Bis, here too, we get so much food in a serving  that I can take home half for supper, so even tho we are entitled to three meals a day, I just go for lunch. Today I ordered half serving, as my appetite is nil some days so I just had a handful of ritz crackers and a container of ensure for supper and I am content. I am vey glad that Joe's beach home is all O.K. And I am so happy Bis that you are near to your family now. It means so much to me being near Gary and Dori.

MYCHEAL, when you order on line from WM the payment is made on line.  When you go there to pick it up, it's already been paid.  There is nothing in place for processing the SNAP cards by phone.  Their rule is "in person only".  There is no payment that changes hands when the order is picked up.  With Schwans, you pay on delivery so they can process the SNAP card face to face with the customer.

Not sure when I posted last, but did want to say HELLO tonight. 

My knee is much better, thanks to those of you who asked.  I am treating it very gingerly. 

I had to do a 24 hour test with urine, so finished that this morning and had to take it to,the doctors office and get a blood test done.  Got that taken care of, then we decided to drive up to Black Hawk.  Beautiful drive, lovely lunch, but  way too much $ given to the slots! 

Brian drove from Austin early this morning with Oliver the Doodle and arrived here about 6:30PM.  It is a 15 hour drive.  Sure was happy to see them drive in.  Brian goes back to Austin on Friday as the house goods will be packed after the 4th of July.  Then he will drive their second car up. 

I must get to bed.  So happy your hubby will be allowed to go home tomorrow, AMY.

Good morning Everyfriend!

I'm here to report no bad repercussions from my crazy accident yesterday.  When they redid the front end (cash registers) at my WM to include self checkouts at both ends, two of the posts that used to be on the outside of the registers moved to the inside of the registers.  When it's necessary to go around the registers to shoot something large, the post is right in the way.  I've bumped it many times but yesterday, I really whacked my head bad enough to see stars in every color of the spectrum.  Everyone was telling me to sit down and they brought me an ice pack.  I didn't sit but I did use the ice pack and the large lump went away and I never did get a headache.

Management came by and wanted me to fill out an accident report and I said it wasn't necessary.  All through all of this, I was being thankful that my daughter didn't know because she would have alerted all my kids.  Unfortunately, a young guy that used to work for my son saw it all.  Of course, he called my son who called my daughter who called both other daughters so they all knew before I ever got home from work.  My daughter stopped by to see "how I was doing".  Nothing ever happens quietly or personally in a small town.  Everyone knows!  However, I'm fine today and I slept well last night because I didn't allow myself to sleep during the day and I was tired buty the time I went to bed.

All's well that end's well!

I'm sure this was more than anyone wanted or needed to know but there you have it.  Make your day the best yet!

Tis so nice to have hubby home, no running daily to the city!!! Now our house is a home with him and his rollator... :smitten:

Have home care calling today and I am not sure what they can do, if they pile wood then I will order the 3 rd load but I do doubt it. :2funny:

Better go get ready for the day....both dogs are sticking right to hubby, making sure he stays put .

you have to have something up there to ace. I don't know what your excuse is you have plenty good since seams to me. now I have too much up there but not all good. I have headaches regularly.mostly wake up with one keep it all day and go to bed with it so must have it all night also.  lately I take Excedrin
Migraine ( doctors ) recommendation seams to help quite a bit. careful or folks will be calling you knot head. have a great day.

 Amy I know what you are saying about Home. and from when I had the knee replacement and the home care giver's came they are great things they do and teach you to do. they gave me things to make things easier to do.two things I remember is device to put your sock on and poke your foot in it  while you can't pick foot up or bend far enough & and a 2 foot long shoe spoon. put it in the  back of your shoe and help put your foot in the shoe. I still use it. God bless you and keep you patent  with him. we humans when we are recuperating can be short on patent's our selves so you have to have more.

AMY, I didn't fall.  I ran full tilt into the post.  I hit my head so hard it bounced off the post like a soccer ball.  Maybe I rearranged everything and I'll be able to remember more stuff. 

It sure must feel good to have your guy home again!  And even if those people don't pile wood, I bet you'll find the time to do it now.  You're very resourceful!

I'm off to take some stuff out of the dryer and put more stuff in.  I don't know who is around here making all this laundry but I wish they'd learn to wear their own clothes and then take them home with them.  I certainly have a lot of laundry for one person and a couple of sloppy dogs.

Hi everyone. We are headed for another day weather wise like yesterday with a lot of clouds and a high temperature around 90 degrees.  Today is going to be a pretty busy one after a couple of quiet days.  This morning I am taking my PT Cruiser in to have the A/C repaired.  I don't use it very often but when I want to drive it I want it to be cool.  Pat will pick me up there and I will take her back to the Church for her crafts group and go on to coffee.  At 11:15 I have my doctor's appointment with the lung doctor related to the use of my CPAP machine.  Then I will pick up Pat and come home.  This evening Jennifer and Scott will be over for dinner and to spend the evening.

Joan, I am trying not to allow myself to think about being tired this morning as have commitments to attend to.  By the time I get things ready for Pat's breakfast on scrambled egg day and then empty the dishwasher I am pretty exhausted but fortunately can sit at my desk, as I am now doing, and recover a bit.  It takes awhile to get settled into a new place and then trying to remember where you put things. 

Gloria, someone was just not paying attention to your lunch meat order.  We have not tried to order lunch meat in the online ordering.  Glad to see you have sprinklers in each apartment as that is certainly a safety precaution.  We also have numerous flashlights located about the house.  Scott gave me a very nice bright and small one for Christmas and I keep it on my night stand right in front of my clock with the large numerals, which I can see without my glasses.

Hal, when does your wife and daughter leave for England and France?

June, it sounds like you are prepared for an emergency.  Good idea to keep a bottle of water with your other supplies. 

Mary Ann, that salad you have yesterday sounds delicous.  I like fruit on a salad or fruit anytime. 

Joan, it sounds like you are well taken care of in the food department.  Sure glad that the beach house wasn't damaged and hope the group enjoys their weekend at the beach house.

Jane, I always tried to have a suggestion for my boss as to how to solve a problem when I talked with him.  I wasn't upset if he didn't agree with me but felt I had done my part in giving him an out if he had no better ideas or knew why such an action would not be appropriate.  Walmart accepting food stamps with online ordering would probably be very good for their bottom line. My wife wasn't happy when they took out the fabric department in Walmart either.  Sorry about your accident and it sounds like some foam could easily be put around those posts to prevent that in the future.  However, it is a good idea to fill out the forms with an accident as sometimes to consequences are not known for awhile.  Glad to see you are OK.  Your kids concern for you just shows the depth of their love for you.

Jeanne, I think the no payments would mean that you could go until right before the six months were up without making a payment then pay the full amount and not be charged interest.  I see Jane has provided a better explanation of what I was trying to say.  I didn't realize that Walmart had that feature.  I have used a similar plan for my dental work but have always made monthly payments and think maybe the CareCredit I use requires the monthly payments at a set minimum amount.

Lloyd, that was good service from Walmart.

Jenny, isn't leaving too much at the casino's just what they expect and want?  :)  Glad you enjoyed your day out.

Larry, you're probably right about filling out the accident form and I have to report to them when I go in this afternoon.  I'd been thinking that I might go ahead and fill it out at that time. 

I have a Care Credit card that I only use at the Vet for the dogs and you are correct.  They do require a minimum payment every month even on deferred interests charges.  Now, how many dogs do you know who have their own credit card?  It sure is a convenience when I have a large bill for them.  I don't have to hesitate and wonder how I'm going to pay it. 

One load of laundry is done, ironed or folded and put away.  The other is almost ready.  I think I'll check how close it is.  Later friends!

Good morning everyone, we had a humdinger of a thunderstorm last night. Rain was hitting the windows so hard I thought one would crack. The air was refreshing after it was over. This morning everything looks washed. Just heard on local weather there was some hail reported last night and in some places the temperature dropped into the upper 40's,this are was one of them.

HAL  so you will be living the life of a bachelor for a few weeks. Your wife have a freezer full of home made dinners for you? Then again you do know how to cook so you will survive.

MARY ANN  my FIL had a print shop with several employees. He did all the printing needed in this town and some for the state, too. He sent the yearbooks for the seniors out to be specially bound.

JOAN  the manager is worse than a sourpuss. The company must like her work though to keep her. If they were to come here and talk to the tenants they would get an earful. Two of the new tenants already had run ins with her. I stay as far away from her as I can.

JUNE  like you I have some hard candy-mostly life saver individually wrapped and a sandwich bag with Canada mints. If everyone here would stick together perhaps something would get done.  There are only 52 apartments here and a few who are always traveling someplace so are not here often.

JANE  would be great if your suggestion to your manager gets tossed around and gets put into action. Wow you are lucky you did not pass out from that bang to your head. Used to be like that in this town, any kid that did something wrong the parents would know before the kid got home. Now there are so many city people moving in that it is not the same quiet place it was.

Gloria, no homemade dinners in the freezer, will have to do with store bought.  I will more than likely eat lots of sausage and eggs or bacon and eggs.  You know how it is to try to fix for one.  And weekends I will always get a decent meal at one of the kids house, hopefully.

Cloudy and warm here this morning.  Rain keeps missing us......grrrrr

Wife has lost her cell phone somewhere here in the house and battery is down so can dial it to find the ring.  So things are been in a turmoil.  Checked AT&T websute abd cheapest shown is over 300 dollars.    double grrrrrrr.  I do sometimes get a little aggrieved and upset.  But I will survive.  Always have.

Larry did you ever get your PC up and running with the new HD? My HD is old and I should get it replaced before something happens.

Online grocery delivery companies throughout the country accept EBT as a payment method. You can check the USDA's FNS site for mobile grocery companies listed as SNAP providers in your area. The company must be equipped to process EBT cards from their its trucks. You'll swipe your card and enter your PIN, just as you would in a store.

I was in earlier today, but I think I went back to sleep, then had to rush to get downstairs for Bible Class at 10  a.m, home for more rest then down for lunch, then on to an early appt. with my doctor, and so it goes. This body does not do well at keeping schedules. If it says rest and nap, it means it.

Now it is time to have some supper, then on to bed.

Bis, our housekeepers are supplied by the management too, but they are trained to follow s strict schedule. Sheets and towels are changed once a week and bathrooms are cleaned. The following week the same happens again ,with vacuuming, scrubbing and dusting added to  it. I have a regular girl all the time, unless she is on vacation. I trained her to NOT tuck in the sheets at the foot of my bed..I want to have my feet free to move about. Your housekeeper is still hired by management and if you are ever unhappy, tell management, and if they agree with you they will see you get what you want. We are paying big bucks for what we get, so we have every right to be satisfied.....or move. I am not demanding or bossy or expect more than I would do for myself, and I am sure that makes a difference. You and I are not the unreasonable type of personality.

Mycheal , I deal with my grocery store..Von's-Safeway..as I did with Amazon. They have my credit card on record so all I do is place an order, and it is delivered.

It's going on 6:30 our here on the left coast, so I am going to have a light supper and get ready for a quiet evening at home. I love you all. God keep you in His loving care. June

I'm obviously not explaining this correctly.  WalMart's on line service is directly from the customer to the store by phone.  A credit card can be used on the phone.  However, it is not delivered to the customer, only to his/her car by a store employee or to a friend's car on behalf of the customer.  At this time, the order has been paid for by a credit card at the time the order was placed.  No money or credit cards change hands when the order is placed in the customer's car.  The phone in order is where there is no acceptable place to use the assistance card since (at least in PA) one of the rules is that it must be done in person.  This is where the problem lies.  If the customer was paying on pickup, one of those little swipers would work on both the credit card and the SNAP card.  Unfortunately, the order has already been paid by phone. 

I'm sorry.  I guess I'm not very good at explaining this and now I'm going to quit trying.  Either you understand or you don't and I don't know how else to explain it.

I'm very tired tonight.  No run ins with posts but I'm going to go to bed early tonight and maybe get a few things done tomorrow.

Jane, I guess I opened a can of worms with my comment about food stamps.  And it was just that - a comment about a situation that I understood, not a complaint against Walmart.  It certainly makes sense to do it this way, it was just something I hadn't considered ahead of time.   :)

Good Morning everyone . it is 4:56 A M here now I have had another short night. tried to  play on the computer and get tired enough to sleep with no luck. two or three treys. so I am going to the shop and put some running boards on my truck. it is a 4 wheel drive and too tall to just set down, I have to sort of lean again the seat and pull my self up in it with the steering wheel. then later when the sun gets up where i can see without lights i am going to the bulldozer and put the track tightener seal in it,so I can keep the track tight enough to not try to come off. then try to get finished with the job for the neighbor. the next day or so fix the lowboy truck so can move to bobs and finish what we have started there, then I am going to line up dosser and one track Howe and other not needed any more tools and machinery and have a sale and slow down.

Liquid sunshine here this morning and for the next 3-4 days they say. I did manage to get the grass cut and weed trimming done yesterday and had planned on weeding the garden but that is not happening. I do have lots to do inside and one is phoning to get answers on one of hubby's meds.

Hal, all the wood has been piled but we will order one more truck load 4 cords  to finish it off.

Gloria, what if everyone signed a petition and send it into head quarters,would they listen then?

Jane, hope your bump on the noggin is much better today.

Lloyd, maybe tonight you will get a decent sleep. Now to bring honey back into the conversation ,I was told to take a tablespoon of honey (or two) at night and that would help you sleep. I have not tried this yet.

Joan, I am so happy to see your posts. I hope each day your strength comes back.

Amy you have My couries up Talking about wood.How much do you have to pay for a cord. I presume it is cut and split to your specks. Before son got killed, he and I used to cut and split wood about 18" 20 " long and round up all we could put on the regular Pickup bed and deliver it to K C MO. for a $100.00 per load short cord, and stack it for customer. I had lot more energy then. I mostly could not pick up and through a stick over the side of truck now let alone any distance..Have a great day. glad you have Husband home and hope he continues to improve. several years I had a stroke and refused to give up and mostly overcame it. some times when I get very tired my tong gets a little laze and I tend to slur some words. but that is all the after affects i notice.

Hi everyone. We are starting off with a nice warm morning but expect to have another cloudy day.  However, the temperatures are suppose to stay in the high 80's this afternoon.  I had a good day yesterday as I felt better than I had the two previous days in terms of having some energy.  Everything worked out well with the timing yesterday morning and was in an out of the doctor's office in about 30 minutes.  After I picked Pat up at the Church we stopped at Chik-Fil-A for lunch.  I did leave my PT Cruiser at the garage and told them I wasn't in a hurry to get it as don't use it very much.  They thanked me saying they were slammed with people getting ready for the 4th of July holiday.  I expect a lot of people would take Monday off from work and add it to the weekend for a nice 4 hour holiday.  Today I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee, then I will take him home and right now plan on going back to the Church for the Wisdom group, which I missed the last couple of weeks.  That will pretty much be it for today. 

Jane, filling out that incident report protects you and that is why they carry insurance (or perhaps self-insure since they are a huge corporation.  I know the Care Credit card can be used for any medical situation whether human or animals if the doctor's office has it available.  It certainly saves them from having to carry people on credit and I am sure the cost to them is built into the costs they charge the patient.  I have used it for a number of years

Gloria, that is pretty chilly for this time of the year.  I like that newly washed look after a storm.  Too bad you have such an unpleasant manager and is certainly doesn't improve your living conditions.

Jenny, your cat is used to having all the attention and doesn't like sharing you with the dog.  They will probably soon adjust to each other or at least tolerate each other.

Hal, do you still have a cafeteria available to you close by.  I always liked those because I  could a balanced meal.  The Golden Corral is about as close to a cafeteria as we seem to have around here in our Ryan's Steakhouse closed.  Of course, we do have the Cracker Barrel and they have good food.  Glad your wife has found her cellphone as they sure aren't cheap anymore.  Yes, I did get my PC up and it is running well.  In fact, it is probably faster than the old hard drive I had.  Of course, I haven't loaded it up with programs and will add them only as I need them. My son installed it a week ago when he was here and I had already put the Windows 10 program on a memory stick and once it loaded it was fine.  The license is automatically transferred as Microsoft keeps track of other components in the computers so can tell it is just a replacement of a part and not a different computer.  It is getting very sophisticated.  I was concerned that I didn't have the license number for Windows 10 on this computer but that turned out not to be a problem and didn't have to re-buy a license. 

Joan, it sounds like you have some training to do with your housekeeper to let her know what you expect.  Perhaps you need to speak to the manager to find out what is suppose to be done by the housekeeper.  Moping floors would seem to be a fundamental task, especially bathroom and kitchen areas. 

Lloyd, sure wish you could get rid of those headaches.  I had migraines for many years until I was in my fifties and then they stopped and I sure don't miss them and seldom have a headache anymore.  You sure have a lot of work on your schedule for today and following.  I hope it all goes well.

mycheal,  that is interesting information to know about the food stamps and online grocery delivery companies.  I bet it won't be long before Walmart also provides that service for the store pickup of online shopping orders. 

June, like you I want my feet to have room to move so always pull the sheet out at the bottom a bit, leaving it still tucked in under the mattress as don't want any air on my feet.  My wife is just the opposite and doesn't mind having her feet out from under the sheet or blankets. 

Jane, your explanation of the Snap Card usage is very clear and easy to understand.  Enjoy your vacation and we will look forward to your return. 

Amy, maybe the rain will give you a break from all of that outside work.

Larry, we still have the remnants of Luby's cafeteria chain here, owned by different owners, but they are very high in price and consequently not many eat there and the food sits and gets stale.  They used to have great food.  We have a self-serve restaurant, which is a cafeteria company, Furr's and the food was good when first opened but now not so good and very expensive and sometimes the serving tables get very messy from customers who seemed to disregard the fact others will use the same area.

Don't know where we will go after I get out of the doctors office, I will just let Steve, my SIL, pick a spot and I will pick up the tab.

Good morning everyone, have been reading but not enough energy to remark. Did not sleep good and the humidity is going back up.

JOAN  some of the help I get really do not know how to keep a place clean and unfortunately I cannot do it myself. My insurance pays for the help so I really cannot complain. They do not move anything and I can see the dust on the floors around the furniture legs. They do not get dust bunnies under the bed either. I do miss the CNA I had for over a year, she spoiled me.

HAL  your family will not let you starve while your wife is over the pond.

They have tried getting a petition going before I moved here about the manager but too many were afraid to sign it. I try staying away from her so she has not really picked on me much. I see some of my friends out in the smoke shack and will go in and chat with them. Then the witch will come in and tell me I have been smoking in my apartment. The smell is on my  clothes, does she want me to strip before I bring the smell in?

AMY  wish you could slow down some. With your DH home at least you do not have that long drive every day.

LARRY  that cool temperature yesterday morning is more to my liking. I have said before, I do not like summer weather.

Almost noon so think it is past time to get dressed for the day.

I had a good check up with my Cardiologist
yesterday.    Tests are all normal and I don;t 
have to go back for another Year!

Unless,  I have issues, and if so "call for and
appointment"...   

This means a lot because I am always in "afib",
but the Coumadin keeps me safe...
For many years I hope.

Another lovely day in Stanton, CA. It was cloudy earlier but now at nine a.m. the sun is shining brightly. 73 degrees is predicted for today. My kind of temperature.

My Dr. has switched on of my meds around. I spoke to her about metoprolol..I have my doubts about it. so she cut back the strength, and I will take it at night instead of in the morning. So far so good. Had my blood drawn this morning, and went to make my bed about an hour later and found that elastic band they tie around the arm lying on the floor on the opposite side of the bed. So called downstairs to let them know I had it.

Lloyd, there you go again…making plans to do the things you should not be doing. You were going to quit that earlier in the game as I recall, now you are talking about risky labor again.

Amy, if the Lord didn't send down rain, I doubt you would ever rest. You and our Janie…we will have to call you the go-go girls……you never take a day off. I'm so happy you have your hubby home again, and I hope he enjoys the freedom his cart/rollator gives him. I would be lost without mine.

Janie….oops…I see you are doing the good thing and taking a bit of a rest. I will miss you dear heart.

Gloria,do you have any other places you could move to that would not be run by a witch ? Here is So. Calif. we have hundreds of options on care places. Even private homes have been licensed to care for the elderly.

Lloyd, we pay 380 a truck load which is 4 cords...40.00 of that is for delivery and they don't pile we do :)

The people we buy from are so nice, he phoned the other night just to see how hubby was doing. When things slow down a bit here I will order another truck load. He cuts it to what we want 14 inches and fine for the cook stove. We used to buy logs and cut and split it but not now. I sold my chain saw a few years back......just to make sure I wasn't tempted to cut wood again.  :thumbup:

Amy that is good thinking. that is what I am doing but I see I am not doing it fast enough for some of my friends. but I can not quit all together as I am still too deep in debt also because I have seen too many people do that and die soon and I enjoy most of you people most of the time to do that. I am going to sell the bulldozer one track Howe and lots of other machinery and duplicitous of tools. hope that pleases everyone.

A good June 29th HELLO to EVERYFRIEND. 

I am in my height of glory getting to spend my "babies" 41st Birthday with him.  I can not believe it has been that many years....it truly feels like no time ago. 

We are going to meet Daughter-in-love at their favorite Mexican Restaurant for a nice Birthday celebration.  Normally we would pick a fancier place to go, but they have been missing what they call "REAL" Mexican food while living in Austin.  As we all know, Texas is Tex-Mex, and they have missed what we think is good Mexican Food here in Colorado.  No matter what....we are going to really enjoy it.

I hope you all have enjoyed a good Thursday.  I sure have.

Yes in my area of the Country Walmart is diligently  working out a plan to take food stamps... with todays technology it can be done. Here you can pick your order up or have it delivered.

However yes many carriers are not equipted with many machines to accommodate all cards even EBT.

Good Morning everyone. it is 3:32 am woke me up with rattling the tater bin and liquid sunshine. Instant weather says 71 º and thunder storms. they hit right on the head they most likely looked out the window and seen it also heard the thunder as I did.
Denver when I was in the service I was stationed at white sand N M. and lived in Las cruses NM. we learned good Mexican food , the real food is not hot just spicy enough to have great taste. they could fix it hot for the gringo's but except for a laugh now and then did not. most Mexican restaurants in this aria do the mess up for the gringo. we are fortant here to have a good restraint close to us, ran by a good Mexican Family. they know how to do it correctly. have a great day.

we how ever getting the rain here one to two inches every day for several days now starting to get the ground soaked up. our gumbo and shallow black dirt is getting soaked up full here. un like your sandier soil holds moisture better.

Rain overnight and more today..so inside work it is. Spent most of yesterday setting up appointments and visits from nurse and physio. Soon all our duck will be in a row!!

Lloyd, I do understand what your saying and easing out of all your work is the way to go. You have so many irons in the fire that you could just keep one going when you semi retire.

Good morning everyone, yesterday was an overcast and cool day. Today will change that with the humidity returning and the heat going up. It was nice to not have the AC running for a couple of days. Might have some rain on the weekend. Glad I will not be traveling anywhere over the Fourth. With all the traffic these days I find I like staying close to home more than ever.

JUNE  there are several other senior housing places but they all have waiting lists, some as much as 4 years. My name was in this place close to 2 years. I would never think of going into the cities in a high rise building. I choose this place because it had only 52 apartments instead of the few hundred in other places.

AMY  my oldest son heated with wood for many years. All trees cut down on his land.  It cleared the area where he now has his orchard. When he finally got tired of chopping wood the wood was almost gone so he bought a pellet stove. Lot of heat but little ash to get rid of.

LLOYD  you have too many interests to just sit and do nothing if you sell all that big machinery. You would never be content to retire and just sit and do nothing. Those are the ones who do not live long.

JENNY  your youngest is 41 and my oldest grandson is 41. My oldest son will be 66 on Sunday. No wonder I am feeling ancient these days.

SHIRLEY  we had a big boomer storm a few nights ago, first big one in the 3 years I have lived here. In a way we are happy with all the rain we had this spring, something about the rain that kills the gypsy moth caterpillars. Last year they defoliated way too many trees here. For a small state we have a lot of woodlands but almost half had no leaves last summer.

Well I woke up with a backache this morning.  But it is going away since I got up and started moving around.  I went to bed at 830 last night, I was bone tired.  We went out to the Texas road house and I split a chicken friend steak with my daughter and ole dad picked up the tab.

I swear I don't know what I am going to do with the wife.  She lost her phone again yesterday and we looked the house over and couldn't find it.  Any old how, when we got back from eating our neighbor across the street told us the neighbor on the corner came up looking for us.  My wife went down and guess what she had found her phone laying in the road, no one had run over it.  Obviously she had left it on the top of the car and it fell off when she turned the corner.  Shhhhhhheeeesh....

Jenny, many moons ago we were traveling through your part of the world and stopped stopped to eat.  I saw they had chili on the menu and sounded good so I ordered a bowl.  Waitress warned me it would be spicy hot, but since I lived on the border of Mexico that didn't bother me to much, well she brought it out and it was like water, no flavor at all to me.  So much for spicy definitions in different parts  of the world.  Along the border the always bring you two small bowls of salsa, one is green and the other red, they are to spice up your food, the red is the mild and the green is the hot, both very good tasting.  They also have what is called Pico Del Gallo which is made with veggies, finely chopped, and mildly spicy and I love it on food. But I think it takes so much time to make and now kinda expensive too boot you have to order it but it so good.  Lloyd Mexican food has to be served hot, stove hot or the flavor just doesn't come out.  And like all restaurants some are better than others.

Coffee is ready, who wants a cup?

Hi everyone. We had some heavy rains during the night and it is was raining a little while ago with good opportunities for more throughout the day. 

This is the day for the housekeeper and we plan on eating out later this afternoon for our main meal and then picking up the PT Cruiser.  The repairs cost a lot more than I expected, around $900, but the car should be in good shape with the A/C problem fixed and a problem with the radiator also repaired.  I also had them do an oil change.  Needless to say I was shocked when he told me the amount.  I think this is a sound car and all cars require periodic maintenance and it is certainly less expensive than replacing it. I may watch some golf later this afternoon.

Hal, I guess cafeterias are probably pretty much a thing of the past for the general public other than those run in hospitals and other business buildings.  You can run up a pretty large bill easily by picking up this and that and they always displayed the food so appealingly.  We have a Texas Roadhouse fairly close and we always enjoy our meals there. That was a close call with your wife's cellphone. 

Gloria, hope you were able to get more rest yesterday.  I understand your comments about lacking the energy to post (although I seem to end up with long postings). Our housekeeper does move small pieces of furniture to be sure the floors are clean.  Of course my wife has eagle eyes and can usually see something that could have been done better.  However, we are most thankful for our housekeeper as she does a good job and is ever so dependable. 

Sandy, great report from your cardiologist.  I wish mine would say come back in a year rather than every 4-6 months.  Normal test results are what we all want. 

June, a 73 degree day sound delightful. 

Amy, your selling your chain saw sounds like a wise decision.  I didn't have to sell mine as it was taken with a lot of my tools in a house break in we had during the 1980.

Lloyd, I had a chuckle at your comment about "enjoying most of you people most of the time".  We are all just concerned about you and are not trying to tell you what to do as that is a decision we each have to make for ourselves.  Liquid sunshine is often most welcome.

Jenny, sometimes eating in a place that may not be as nice as others but have enjoyable food is the thing to do.  We just had a new Tex-Mex restaurant open called Diablo's and we all like it as you go though a line and tell them what you want and how much of it on whatever your order.  I think it will become one of our favorite places.  I may have never really eaten real Mexican food.

mycheal, I am confident that we will soon have grocery stores that will off a delivery service since it is available in many parts of the country.  However, just having the online ordering is a big step forward. 

Amy, I have always wondered who it was that got to decide what are weeds and what are not weeds.  My mind works in strange ways.  :) 

Joan, may I suggest you get a bluetooth keyboard to use with your iPad.  It works beautifully and there are no wires as it works on batteries.  I think I paid less that $15 for mine.  It is very lightweight.  It sure beats typing on those little keys on the iPad for phone.  I got mine from Amazon and if you are interested just let me know and I will look up what I ordered and provide you a link.

Bis, it is SO good to see your posts pop up. Do you have a washer and dryer in your apartment ? Mine is down the hall but it is one washer and dryer used by all the units on my floor, plus some from the first and second floor come up here. I am going to enquire about the price of having it done, which they do here...for $$ of course.

I better go fix some breakfast, my housekeeper has been in and changed the linens and will be back later for "deep" cleaning. So, see you all later.

Hal ,I had to come in and post when I read about, your wife's phone. Not funny, but had to laugh.  In to days paper, was a story about a women here, that is getting married in Ohio  She arrived in Ohio, and did not have her wedding dress.  It seems when she was packing the car, she put the dress on the roof, and drove off.  A women drove by a house and saw a dress in a dress bag hanging on a fence.  she thought it a give away.  that night she saw on facebook, the women told of losing her wedding dress in that in southampton.  Sorry, I cannot make this story any shorter.
Next morning she went back to the house  where she saw the dress, and ask the people about the it.  Seems they found it in the road, put it on there fence, it was going to rain, so they bought the dress  inside, and was going to give it to Goodwill.

They called the bride to be in Ohio, To make a long story end, she now has her dress, for July wedding.

Bis, you are far more well equipped than we are here. Even the two bedroom apartments are not that spacious, and I have a studio...no bedroom. But for my age and more and more lack of ability, I am content. I think our age group here are older than those where I lived before, but the exercize classes are all well attended, the clinic downstairs is staffed 24-7, which is a great benefit. We have a t.v. gal here that is a whiz on computers and t.v.s. Our computer connections are through Rowntree as is the t.v. Almost a city within a city.

Gloria de, I had purchased some glasswear at a yard sale one time..put them on the roof my my car, and took off. I was tootling on home and someone honked and motioned toward my car, so I stopped, got out, and there was the box of glassware safe and sound. I'm so glad the bride to be recovered her wedding dress.

There are some really nice over the shoulder purses,  that
are perfect for cell phones .     (with space for extra also... like money, credit cards
tissues etc etc.)     

When I am out of the house my cell phone is always in one of these purses,
and next to body.    At home, I keep mine on the desk or next to my bed. 
(or in the bath room) ....    In other words I keep it pretty close to
where ever I am .

A Good Friday to EVERYFRIEND! 

Wow, here we are starting another holiday weekend.  I saw so many campers packed up and headed out of town.  Kind of glad I am not! 

We had a wonderful meal last night at the Mexican place.  I had two crispy chili rellanos with rice and beans smothered in green chili.  It was delicious. 

HAL, I have unfortunately had watery chili in the past as well with no flavor at all.  Hard to believe the waitress would tell you it is very spicy as clearly it was not.  I think New Mexico has some of the best Mexican Food.  They consistently use Hatch Green Chilies and they are very flavorful.  Mexican Food that is extremely hot has no flavor...it just burns so badly.  I want a nice spicy taste with flavor. 

LARRY, most Mexican Food that we have eaten in other parts of the states is pretty Americanized.  That is not necessarily bad....it can be quite tasty.  A lot of Tex Mex is delicious, it is just different than our Mexican Food here in the Southwest.  Sorry the repair is that high on the PT Cruiser.  Seems everything is so pricey these days.  Our 30K check on our car was $400. and I could hardly believe it.  Oil change, rotate tires and a couple of other things...seemed like highway robbery to me.

Smokey and Oliver are getting better each day accepting each other.  In time I bet they will be the best of buds.  I sure hope so!

We drove Brian out towards the airport this morning and met up with Cathy.  They are now winging their way back to Austin.  They will finish things up and will plan to drive the last bit of stuff up in the car a week from tomorrow. 

GLORIA, it is kind of funny to think your grandson is the age of my youngest son....and yet, age in here really doesn't seem to matter. 

JOAN, happy the guys stopped by and ordered the part you need for your computer.  Yesterday Bob and Brian went and bought a new router as ours was so slow.  Brian hooked it up in no time and the speed is ten fold faster.  Bob needs a new mouse and keyboard and I think he is going to go with wireless also.

Sandy whom has any Money ? my wife has several purses And any one of them has lot more room than we ever had money to fill. Have a great day counting your Money. I am getting too old to every want another lady but if Nancy dies on me I might get another for her Money, I sure do not have any of my owen , I have any always been able to spend all I get. Nancy keeps telling she Love me But I am not sure of that she Keeps fixing all this fattening food to make fatter and maybe cause a heart trouble and kill me off.

Gloria:  It really irks me that you have that mean woman in charge.  It sure isn't healthy to have someone so negative "in charge". 

We have stayed home all day because our neighbor needs help when a delivery truck delivers outdoor furniture and she cannot open the boxes that must be looked at right away for any defect.  She is a dear friend and we want to help - the fault is these delivery people are not always kind enough to give a heads-up on delivery time. 



So, I baked 2 batches of banana walnut muffins and froze most of them.  Yesterday, I made a large pot of beef stew and froze that meal - for whoever comes next week.  My cousin isn't sure they will be here or stay overnight. 

Hal:  we were given a phone from daughter and the bill came with an extra $75 tab because they had to change the name and number.  Now, how fast can they do that job?

Jenny:  Which Mexican restaurant did you mean?  I certainly hope your son's dog and your kitty get along.  ---- I met friends at Michel Pierre's bakery/cafe this week.  Yum but I don't even think about the thousand calories.  Take care.

Lloyd, a while back you asked if "we owned the land to the river"... answer is, No, not sure if it's owed by the Corp of Engineers or the city Park Department, but we were told that "they learned their lesson about people owning land joining the river".... and don't allow it inside the city.  That's okay with us, as long as "they" don't make it so people can wander around like on the other side, where the city built a bike-path that goes from the zoo west of us to downtown & all around town.  On this side it is more private but we can't fence it off.  By the way, my husband liked fried green tomatoes, something I never tasted. I tried to fix some for him, like he said his mother made.  Such a mess, I told him if he ever wanted any more he could go home & let Mama fry them!!!  I like fried onions & fried green beans, but had no clue what those fried green tomatoes should taste like... NOT what I cooked, I'm sure!!!   :crazy2:

I finally called the Fitbit tech help to get this new HR charge 2 so it would tell me how much I sleep.  I know I don't get enough but has been shocking to see how little (when the old one was working right). My resting heart rate gets super high without enough sleep. 

Need to get out & check, think it is cooler this evening.  Been taking a B-1 vitamin to keep the mosquitoes away but guess I'll have to spray tonight, takes about half an hour for the vitamin to go through my system so the mosquitoes don't like me.  Been one of those days of doing odd jobs, just stop and do them!  Had to call son & wife to show me how to empty the new Shark.... and how to fill water in the new iron.  Then I stopped & did a hem job on a towel that was raveling on the sides.... just when they get soft & no lint & the seams get stringy.  Need to find something else to eat, had some roast & those "steamer" veggies, too lazy to go get carry out.

Jenny, I love good Mexican food & agree, you have tasty places in CO.

 Shirley well as you know I have a good wife ( maybe trying to get fattening up for Market ) I do not know how to tell you about the taste Just Know I love it.
you need a bowel with milk in it another with flour and some salt and pepper in it. and another with egg's beat up and another with bread crumbs in it. I am sure you know how to toast the bread in the oven and crumble it. hot skillet medium heat then dip in milk and then in flower and then in the egg's and then in the bread crumbs and fry slow  turning a couple times until well browned.
I ate most of a large green tomato. oh yes slice it a short 1/2 " thick. I am full as a tick but telling me think I need another. But will Waite until tomorrow. And try again. have a grate rest of the evening. Hope you sleep well tonight.

It has been a good day here in CA. at least in my area. From what I have read you are all doing fine and I am thankful for that. Tomorrow will be July with one BIG holiday that I hope will be safe and sane for all. I will spend another quiet day at home waiting for my delivery of groceries from Von's. I give them a four hour delivery window and save six dollars. Same day delivery is over 12 dollars. The bring it right into my apartment, I sign for it, and off they go.

Have a peaceful night dear friends. I send you prayers for your health, and a happy tomorrow. June

Muggy here with the threat of more rain.Need to gather up garbage to take to the dump today then I am in for the day...I hope! VON is coming for the next few days to check on hubby. Thank goodness for rollators , he is using his,not all the time but more than I thought he would.

Good morning everyone, we are back in humidity again.Chance of thunderstorms again. One thing good though, my grandson emailed me that he will come and check this computer this week end. I knew he would but when he was ready. Guess when one is on call 24/7 to solve computer problems when you have free time you do not want to look at another computer. Of course most of his work in done online from his office and little hands on. Had a nice surprise yesterday. My oldest son came here and stayed a few hours. Unusual for him. I did enjoy it. Then his son going to come to check my PC and second son will be here later today. He comes here most every week end.

JOAN  no more computer for you? My daughter uses her iPad for every thing since they moved. That and her iPhone sure get a workout now.Hope you did not tire yourself doing your washing.

HAL  some nights I am in bed by 8:30 and others close to midnight. Glad your back felt better after moving around.  I do know that feeling. I think I am going to cancel my appointment with the pain doctor,those shots in my back are not helping. For 1 day it works and then it is the same old thing. I can no longer eat hot spicy food and at one time I loved it.

LARRY  some of the people I have had here and see what they did or did not do I wonder what their homes look like. One place I will not let them near is the computer area with all those wires I am afraid they would mess something up. I had one, and older one mid 50's and I called the office and told her to please not send her again. I had to go over everything she did and for me I was worn out for a couple of days after.

JUNE  only 1 washer and dryer on each floor? How many live on a floor? We have 4 washers and dryers on the main floor and only 2 people wait till they have so may things they use all the washers. Some are beginning to complain to the manager about that.

GLORIA de  seems like that bride would have been more careful with her wedding dress. Glad it worked out good for her.

SANDY  I have a pouch under the seat of my rollator, it has a little net place on either side and I keep my cellphone in one side and my keys in the other. Always check before  I go out my door to make sure I have both.

JENNY  when I think of the age of my 3 and the ages of my grands I feel so ancient. Other times it is hard to believe I am 86 and have been retired for 21 years.  We have 1 lady who is now 100n and another who will be 100 in a few months, several in their 90's, the youngest is almost 70 now. We do not think much about ages here. I love the wireless keyboard and mouse.

LLOYD  just because Nancy is a good cook does not mean you have to keep eating all she cooks. Never mind going back for second or third helpings of something very tasty.

CAROL  we had a nice few days. Manager left early Wednesday and will not be back till next Wednesday. She gets paid for a 8 hour day 5 days a week. This time she took a very long week end. We all like it when she is not here and we all behave and are happier.

HAL  the tomatoes from your garden sound good but I really do not care for fish.

SHIRLEY  you do too much and are too tired to get a good night's sleep.

JUNE  where I order groceries online once in awhile they give us a pass that is good for 6 months and deliveries are free, no matter how much you spend. Other than that over $100 most time is is free delivery and under that it is $6.95 no matter what time you pick for delivery.

AMY  I believe that rollators are one of the best things to come along for those like us who need one to get around, mush better that the old type walkers.

Now that I wrote a book I better get moving.

Hi everyone. We are having another overcast day with still chances for more rain.  However, it is going to be hot and humid as well. 

I am going to attend my Saturday meeting this morning and afterwards stop at Walmart to pick up Pat's online order.  That will save another trip downtown.  Other than watching some golf this afternoon I have nothing else on my schedule.

Yesterday garage called and said our car was ready for pickup.  So in mid-afternoon we drove down to get it and it was sitting outside.  So I told Pat to just go on and meet me at the Church parking lot as we were going to eat our main meal of the day before coming home.  I pay the bill and get in the car and start it and try to put it in gear and the gear shift just moves around without going into any gear.  So I go back in the garage and the service person comes out and checks and has the same experience.  Apparently in the repair work being done the shift cables were disconnected so I had to leave it.  I was going to call Pat but the garage said no they would take me where I needed to go so the owner young son took me to meet Pat.  We then went out to a BBQ place for our meal.  We hadn't been there before and we found the food very good.  It may be after the 4th of July before I can get the car but told them I wasn't in a hurry as seldom use it.  I have never had an experience like that before where the repair garage broke my car.  :)

June, it sounds like a good plan to have your laundry done for you.  With only one washer and dryer available it must be difficult to find a time to do it yourself plus it takes away your time from other things. 

Joan, glad your son had already helped you out.  I read a lot lying down and I am finding holding my iPhone to read is difficult and may have contributed to my painful knuckle on my left hand.  So last evening I order a little adjustable stand for the iPhone that has I think 10 different slots to adjust the angle and I have a book stand that I can sit it on and I hope it will work well.  If so I will probably order another to use at my desk. It also folds down flat so will fit under the book stand pillow on my night stand where I keep my iPad.

deAngel, that bridge must have had a lot on her mind but all's well that ends well as the old saying goes. 

Sandy, like you I keep my cell phone in a belt holder on my bedside table at night and have it on the charger there. 

Jenny, I love chili rellanos if made with the right peppers.  Mexican food is always very filling and usually relatively inexpensive. That does seem very expensive for those services on your car.  Was this service on your Lexus? That is a fairly long way to the Denver airport isn't it from your house?

Lloyd, my wife keeps a lot of other things in her purse besides money, which takes up just a little bit of room.  I bet Nancy fixes that good food for you because she loves you and knows you enjoy it.  You can have my share of the fried green tomatoes and the fish.  Fish is OK if it doesn't have a real fishy taste. 

Shirley, I had never heard of friend green tomatoes until we moved to the South and they serve a lot of them around here.  I have started taking a B-1 vitamin but have never heard about it keeping the mosquitoes away.  We don't seem to have much of a problem with mosquitoes around here but think that is because the city sprays for them and also because we don't spend much time outdoors. 

Amy, that rollator could well prevent your husband from a fall as I am sure you know.

Gloria, I hope your grandson gets your computer back in top notch condition.  Nice of your sons to come and see you often.

OK Gloria I got your message Loud and clear please don't hit me again I will try to do better. I have enough cuts and bruises for a while. I sort of have the laze's today but am nearly dressed and have in my head to go to shop and careful work on putting the ruining boards on the truck. Nancy nor I can step up as high as is the floorboards of it. I can get in it by backing up to the seat and grabbing the steering wheel and pulling my fat bode in it.  cant jump anymore either. Good Morning Everyone.
It looks like tomorrow is going to be hot,
but  otherwise for the 10 days or so,
it isi going to be warm but not too hot.
That is unusual for July, which tends to be hot  and humid.

Kelly's two girls,  Maeve and Maggie have joined her
in Switzerland....   (The two of them will be travelling
around  Europe and the UK for the nexti six weeks,   

Kelly will spend this week with them,  then they
are separating and the girls will be on their own
for the next 5 weeks.        WOW

Kelly and I traveled Europe in the 80's,  and now her
and her girls are doing the same.   

Life is funny sometimes .   
"What goes around seems  to come around, 
sometimes. 

I have been spending time watching them fly away
and of course worrying about them all.     

But I am glad that they are happy and able to
enjoy life.    (still)

 JaneS I do not know how you do it I sure can't do it any more. I went to the shop and swept a very little spot and i walked around looking for a tool about 20 min. , finely found it right in plain sight. I put ma chop saw in the truck and a can of gas for it to take down to bob's and have him get it tuned up and I am wore to a frazzle. not trying to tell age but I think you are a bit older than me.
must be Nancy's fault keeping me so fat..

Good Saturday to all! 

Don is taking his walk before it gets too hot.  I was on a treadmill this morning but then did feel a little weak.  Then, a phone call came that a good friend was in ER and diagnosed with an ulcer.  We don't know if she will have surgery or not.  She is full-time caregiver for her frail husband.  I have two friends who care almost total caregivers to husbands. 

Lloyd:  Stop blaming Nancy for being "too fat" as you always write.  Nancy is a saint  ;)  When I can't "see" something that should be right there - I walk away and come back to look again and sure can finally see the missing thing.  If it is a black color, I have to look twice as much. 

Gloria:  So nice that your sons are in the area.  We have one grandson spending a day with us next week and he will be re staining the deck - which we cleaned and dried two days ago.  Nice that the Wicked One is away for a while - you need a break. 

Jenny:  Was that El Senor Sol for your crispy rellanos?  The one closest to your house?  Yum.

Good afternoon all. It has been a busy morning for me. I did two loads of laundry, so had to rest a bit more after getting all things folded and put away. And I have reserved the 11 to 3 window for my grocery delivery, so I will be "at home" the rest of the day, unless later I need to take a walk, and maybe go down for supper..that is all 'iffy". Right now I am here to listen and converse with all of you…….

We are having an overcast, cool morning. Just the way I like it.

Gloria, there are currently 30 or 33 people on our third floor, with one washer and dryer. I don't know what the original plan was to have so few appliances, but I suspect there are some pretty wealthy folks here that send their laundry out. There are about the same number on the second floor with the same style laundry room. I know the lady that lives below me brings her laundry up here to the third floor, and there are no appliances on the first floor where more folks are not up to doing laundry, and those that can come up here. Hence the crowding. We are not to launder till 7 a.m. , till 7p.m. Next community meeting I plan to bring up the problem of overcrowding in the laundry room

The sun just peeked in my window.

Larry, that must have been a very frightening experience starting the car and no shift control. I am surprised they hadn't checked it our before releasing it to you. I intend to find out the cost of having laundry done…it just personal things, the linens are done for us, but they do a lovely job on the clothing. The weekend is not the time to get this information, so I'll learn more Monday

Janie..lucky you, having a berry patch available. We had one in the neighborhood where I grew up in Mn. but not out here in the different cities I have lived in.

Sandy, I am so happy your girls are getting to do the same style of seeing Europe as you did.

Carol..good advice you gave Lloyd. We don't have to be food-a-holics. We have choices we can make.

O.K. off I go before Lloyd thinks I'm picking on him. Perhaps I do, but I would pick on all my loved ones if I felt they were harming themselves.

CAROL, I answered your question about the Mexican Restaurant last night, but I do not see it!  When I logged in today it was on POST but it was blank....I guess I forgot to post and then it timed out.   Anyway, it is El Tajado Mex Restaurant on S. Broadway, just N. of Yale.  It has been there for years. 

Yes, LARRY, it was the 30k maintenance service on my Lexus.  I am sorry to read your problem when picking up your PT Cruiser.  I discovered that my power seat is not returning to it's place since I picked my car.   Bob has looked at it and can not see what the problem could be.  Gurrr.  The drive to the airport is about 30 minutes barring no bad traffic issues. 

SANDY, how nice that your girls are enjoying the tradition that you and your daughter started.  What a fun expierence they will all have. 

GLORIA, live it up with the old bag away!!!

JUNE, that is way too many units to share two washer and dryers.

My missing post was right after your post last night, SHIRLEY.  I know I commented something to you as well as CAROL, but I sure do not remember now. 

Dr. Dave just posted a picture on FB of a bear walking through his backyard.  The other night when we were there there was a bob cat in the neighbors backyard.  She yelled down to us to be careful with the doggies.....
When we left his place the other night we saw a HUGE Elk standing on the side of the road....it was spectacular to see.  They and we, have a lot of wild life around in our areas, so it is mandatory to not let our pets out of our site.  There have been many pet lost and pets found this week in particular.....

we just tease do not throw rocks or get out weapons of valance. we just got home we went over to Bobs moms shed and had a very good forth early meal. must have been 60 70 people there. problem is I ate too much. you know me

Good morning everyone..

Another day of liquid sunshine here..

Yesterday was a lost day for me, I did get the garbage to the dump but no baking done. VON came and went and I went and laid down got up at 12.20 made lunch then went and laid down again till a bit after 3 pm. I think I am caught up on my sleep now :)

A day of rest here.. will see how that days goes  and may bath the dogs.

June ,I am so glad you didn't fall!!! Hope you have a better day today.

Lloyd, you made me laugh when you mentioned your sea food diet...I assume you're the one in control of your fork so you can't blame Nancy dear man.

Gloria, he has to do exercises the physio lady gave him and maybe down the line he can put the rollator aside but for now it sure is a blessing to have!

Jenny, we also live in an area of wildlife and I love it.On my walks I see deer,moose a wolf and lots of different birds. Someone said they saw a bear just up the road from us.

Carol, it has been a while since I have had a date with my sewing machine, of course that also means no date either with Jack the Ripper too. :2funny: Maybe today I can get some sewing done.

Larry, oh boy good job you have two vehicles and don't have to rely on one.

Hal, where are you??? Hope everything is alright.

Jane, when you pick berries do you eat a few also? :)

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, yesterday was kinda a nothing day.  The ladies of the family all got together and went shopping and I just kicked back here at home and did absolutely nothing.  I am also watching my back.  "I think" the shots I got Thursday are working this time.  I have had very little pain in my back and walking is not bothering me too much.

The wife and daughter leave tomorrow for their trip to the UK and France.  But I will be pretty busy, I have to go to the dentist on the 5th for a consult on my tooth to see if a root canal will save it, if not then to a different dentist to get it removed.  I told my dentist, and will tell the one I see on the 5th, no guessing if there is any doubt I want it removed.  I don't want to spend, and I don't have that kind of money, a 1000 dollars on a tooth.  I still have one I need capped other than this root canal.

JaneS, you berry picking sounds like one I would like.  And the ratio is about right, 2 for you 1 for the bucket.

Weather here is hot and humid, no rain in sight. Temps in high 90's.

Hi everyone. We had a hot, humid and dry day yesterday.  Today may be the same although showers are possible this afternoon and evening.  We expect this to be our normal Sunday with attendance at Sunday School and Church and then getting something to eat before coming home for a restful afternoon. 

About 2 pm yesterday the garage called saying my car was ready.  They offered to send someone out with it that I could then return to the shop.  That way Pat didn't have to get out again as we had been out yesterday morning.  That worked out well and all seems to be well with the car.  It now shifts well.

Lloyd, that sounds like a very large truck.  You are not alone in not being able to see something right in front of me.  Sometimes I look in the refrigerator or pantry for an item, can't find it and Pat will look or I will look again and there is was right in the front. 

Carol, I feel for anyone who is a full-time caregiver.  At least an ulcer for your friend can be treated and she should be OK. 

June, glad you are going to check on having your laundry done.  It sounds like your laundry situation for your building is one that needs to be addressed by management.  I wasn't frightened with the car situation as just as the car wouldn't move and it was sitting right outside of the garage.  I didn't worry about it as knew they would fix it and that it shouldn't cost me anymore as it was shifting fine when I took it in.  I just wonder how they got it out of the garage bay. 

Jenny, surely the dealer would fix your car seat problem under warranty.  Too bad you will have to make another trip to the dealer to have it fixed.  That sounds like a great feature to have on the car.  I sure wouldn't want to see a bear or bobcat in my backyard.

Amy, sometimes we just need some extra rest and you have been on quite a merry-go-round for quite awhile.  Glad you allowed yourself to take that time for yourself. 

Hal, nice to read that the new shots you have may be helping your back.  Perhaps those with the PT will help you feel much better. 

I hope all have a nice Sunday.  Time to leave for Church.  I will be by myself today as Pat isn't feeling like going and so decided to stay home.

I am sure you all would be great neighbors, never a dull moment. straight forward as I think I am. No fools no fun, do not make a lot of money but do have lot of fun. Have a great day. Bob's mom has one of several property's on the one mentioned here she has a building for a store and place to milk cows and sell her milk and produce and meats. beef chickens pork and  turkeys all farm raised and with no chemicals in feed just clean pure meat and such. it has one large room where will be display room and meeting's we have get togather's there we had a big feed there yesterday.

Good morning everyone, I am really fed up with Cox cable. Watching the evening news last night and once again the TV went black. This happens so often here that one time with so many complaints the manager had a Cox rep here to talk about it. and saying they would check all the wires in the building. Still going out. I was so disgusted yesterday I called Cox and of course they try fixing it from there. Still nothing. Then the gal told me to unplug it from the outlet. I cannot move the tv stand to get behind it. Well someone will come and check it out late Monday afternoon. Great.  Then I went to check my email and they already sent one, will cost $75 unless it is their equipment. This morning I turned the TV on and it is working. I am not the only one who has loss of picture and sound like this and we all complain. They must be paying the owners of these building a good kickback to keep them here. We cannot get any other cable company in the building. Hope my grandson does get here today, at least that would get me in a better frame of mind. Today is his Dad's birthday so he might spent the day with him. Enough of my gripes and complaints.

LARRY  that garage should knock off some money from that bill for not having your car up and running when you were told it was ready.

LLOYD  you know we all worry about you and all the dangerous machinery you have. We want you to start doing what you really enjoy and is not dangerous. Now I would never hit you, you have had too many hard knocks already.

JANE  my son stopped at the farm yesterday before coming here and got me a quart of their strawberries. I have been picking on them since, so sweet and juicy. These will never make it to the freezer. I already asked him to get me another one next week. Every year in this state seniors can get $15 coupons good only at farms and farmers markets. I will sign mine and he will get me blueberries from that farm when they are ready.

CAROL  it is always a quiet and happy building when the "witch" is not here. We do not jump if knocks on our doors

JUNE  no times when no laundry can be done here. Those who have trouble sleeping do theirs in the middle of the night.

JENNY  we cannot "live it up" too much, there are cameras in the hallways and she could see and hear us.  We wonder at times if she has hidden ones in our apartments.

AMY  sunshine here and an ozone warning is up for the whole section of New England. Makes me glad I do lot live in a city where it would be felt more. The rollator will give your DH more confidence in moving around now. Hope the exercises work for him but he has to do them.

JANE  of course one has to taste that is being picked, have to know that they are tasty, right?

HAL  I have picked blueberries and strawberries peaches tomatoes but to me the easiest to pick are apples. Have to taste one from every tree to see which is the best.

Think it is past time for me to get dressed for the day. Being really lazy, heck at this time in my life I think I deserve a lazy day, we all do.

Good Morning dear friends, I'm up and ready for Church. Have read your messages, and you all make me happy. You are an eager, optimistic group of loving people. I miss our Bis, but she may pop in later, I pray all is well with her.

There is some flu going around our building..haven't talked with those in the Acacia building yet, but there are signs on some doors, warning us those of  illness and telling us to wash our hands thoroughly.

Amy,it makes me happy to know you are rained in. You need this time out to recover from all the tension and worry you had there for a while. It makes me think God knows you need to recover so he sends the rain. When I get a bruise Amy, it really is a bruise. This one is just above the wrist, about three inches long and goes half way around my skinny old arm. I think the auxiliary veins the body sent out to compensate for my poor clogger arteries are so near the surface, that the slightest bump causes a big bruise. I am thankful my bones are strong.

Gloria, I am so glad your sons help you out with some shopping…..the berries sound SO good, and I can't have any.  I can have the juice, but not the seeds in berries. And a professional computer Grandson…..that is truly a blessing. My computer is my life-line to the outside world, and especially to all my dear friends and relatives.

Other than Church and dining room and clinic, it is very quiet here on Sundays. A real holiday for all those who labor six days a week. Which is as it should be. Management is very considerate of their employees, and that is why most everyone that is hired makes it a life-long job. One lady has been here 32 years, and most of management are of the Quaker faith.  I am more than content.

Nearly time to get downstairs for Church, so I will plan to see you later. June

A good Sunday HELLO to all. 

Beautiful morning here in the Mile High City, but it is going to be a hot one.  It is awfully dry and we sure could use some rain.  Folks continue to shoot off fireworks at night even though they are banned due to the high fire danger.  Sure wish they would not!

GLORIA, your fresh fruit sounds yummmy, happy your son gets it for you.  I had cantaloupe for breakfast and it was very tasty.  Your cable issue sure sounds annoying to say the least.  Makes one afraid to even have them come out when you have to pay that exorbitant price if it is on your side.  I do know that occasionally we have to "reboot" our cable box, and Bob can get back there to do it, but I sure would not be able to.  I hope your grandson can help you. 

JANE, I love reading about your berry picking....what could be better than one for the bucket and two for the picker?

HAL, it appears you have way too much to have to attend to while your wife is away.  I wish them a safe and enjoyable trip.

I love that graphic. It seems like little girls don't have Tea parties anymore. We all use to have little tea sets. and I brought one home from one of our trips back to UK for my girls and they would use them. But we brought a beautiful set back for the Grands and they still in box.  Maybe it is more a English Thing.  Sure will not do it now as they never get off their phones or tablets to do anything.  I have now 4 great Grand Daughters and that is all the do.  None know how to knit, Crochet. reads books. anything. Do have one though. the Eldest one. Such a great artist. Hope she keeps it up. Loves books also. Times a changing.

Back from Church and good to be home. One of our residents gave the homily today, and he was very interesting. Not preaching to us, but talking to us.He is described as a lay preacher and has been doing it for 29 years. He was a former aerospace engineer, and is still at that as a consultant.85 years of age.

Jeanne P. I too hope your Gr. Grandaughter continues as an artist. My oldest son was a graphic artist and made an excellent living that way. He worked at home for big companies. He retired at an early age. I doubt if there are many young girls anymore that play with dolls or tea sets. I doubt if many young people now have an "imagination". Everything is right out there for them to read...no need to "think".But they are far more learned than we ever were.

Jenny, I am going down for my main meal soon, then I will come home, put on comfy clothes, and just settle in for the day. I will bestir myself to go out for several walks before bed time though. I have got to keep the blood flowing, or lose it.

Good afternoon, a quite a hot and sticky day.  the AC is going full blast, but I think I will go out on the deck and read,  there is a nice breeze.

Gloria, seniors get $20. in coupons to shop at the farmers market. It is down by the river.  Yes you deserve to be lazy, this was my day, i did not get dressed till after 12 noon. Has a bad night went to sleep at 6. woke up with Taffy hit my face to wake me up.

June, I also say reading and posting in here is my life line to the outside.

Larry, I hope Pat feels better.  I went grocery shopping yesterday, I enjoy walking up and down the aisles. to day I know I did extra exercises. My legs really hurt, but like June, I have to use them, because of such poor circulation.

Amy, I think you just need to put your feet up and just rest for a day.

Gloria de, Good night dear. I'm sorry you have the artery problem as I have. But it could be worse. We are still able to get on our feet and walk. I use my rollator/cart all the time as my balance is so poor too. And it gives me a place to sit  when the legs cramp up, while out walking.

Now it is time for bed and book, and we can look forward to a new day tomorrow. I wish you all God's peace, hugs, and much love. June

Good morning everyone..

Another overcast day here...hope the rain holds off till I get the rest of the wood ashes to the dump today. Not sure what else is on the agenda,need to clean out the fridge and VON is coming in the afternoon.

Bathed both dogs yesterday and they smell so nice and their coats are soft and shiny. Need to make an appointment for the Border to get her needles. She is not fond of going to the vet ,even though our vet is an awesome lady and loves animals to pieces. She doesn't get the dog up on a table she gets down on the floor with them.

Good morning Amy and Everyfriend!  My kitchen cupboards are empty but the counters are loaded.  My cleaning dynamo is coming today to clean the cupboards and a lot of what's on the counters isn't going back in them.  I've been in touch with my daughter to stop by and point out anything she might want for herself or her kids before I start putting things back.  There are still two cupboards to go but I'm going to let Tami do the ladder to unload those. 

I better get moving.  I have to run by the ATM and WM before Tami arrives at 10.  I wish you all a great day.

Hi everyone. Hi everyone.  I am getting off to a slow start this morning as didn't get up until a little after 8.  Pat beat me up this morning and had fixed her own breakfast.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to go down to our Kroger store and pick up an online order that Pat placed yesterday.  This will be our first time to use this service at Kroger.  It is going to be another hot and humid day with a halfway chance of rain this afternoon.

Lloyd, Bob's mom sounds like quite an interesting person and a good neighbor.  Life is too short not to try to enjoy each day. 

Gloria, you certainly have a good reason to be frustrated with Cox cable.  Glad your service is back on.  Are they the only cable company in your area?  All of my connections to our big TV are in a recessed area above our fireplace.  So I had my son plug in an extension cord that I can reach from under the front of the TV to unplug when necessary as cannot move the big TV by myself. Pat keeps a little flower like row on the ledge so the wires and cable boxes are not visible. In my office I have my computer desk set out in front of my storage closet so that all the wires are accessible.  The wires are visible but I no longer have to get down on the floor under the desk to access them.  A friend at Church yesterday gave me a big sack of homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers. 

June, certainly hope you don't experience the flu.  I haven't heard about it being a problem in our area.  That must be a good place to work if there is little turnover of staff. 

I am not going to comment to everyone today as my energy level seems low but enjoyed each and every posting.

Janie, yep, and I think I have it all figured out now.  That is why my back has been hurting so bad.  Not easy twisting around to see it...... ;)  I may have bragged to soon, it is bothering me a little this morning, of course I have been doing lots of walking.  My ladies just left for the airport  Anyhow, I have the water on this morning in the front giving my lawn a little drink.

When I went out this morning a grass snake was crossing the driveway heading to the back of the hedge in front of the house.  Just a couple of feet long.  I didn't bother him and he didn't bother me.

Good morning everyone, beautiful morning here, sun is shining and humidity is down, for now. My grandson was here yesterday and fixed a few things on this machine. Now to see if everything works like it should.

JUNE  like you my computer is important to me. I cannot think of life without it. I am glad I can still enjoy summer fruit.

JENNY  odd thing with the TV this morning I automatically turned it on and it was working. Now I will call and cancel that appointment.

GLORIA de  I always liked checking all the aisles in the market but I have not been in oe in over a year now. Have no idea what new items they have that might tempt me.

HAL  wow that is some reading. The name for RI, Stephen Hopkins, there are so many Hopkins in this town, wonder if they are descendants of his.

LARRY  Cox is the only service allowed in this building. Both my sons and grandson have changed to Verizon and they find the service much better.  From what I heard from different CNA's Cox is in all the senior housing.  We have no other choice. Tomato plants here are just about starting to blossom. Most people here do not plant till Memorial day, seldom have a frost after that.

Time to turn my AC back on before the sun hits my windows.

Good mid day. well I went to the sawbones and got the stitches out would been better off to have did it my self. he took little scissors and started chopping away got the stitches and scabs  and all started bleeding and opened up deep.
so i will get out the peroxide  and clean it up and put honey and a clean bandage on it and start over with the healing. wont trust him again.
Have a good day. see you this evening after I get home from the heart doctor.

Good morning ..9:30 in Stanton, ca. and the sun just broke out. I woke up….wide awake at 3:30 a.m. so this will be an "iffy" day for me. I will play it hour by hour.

Amy, I am a dummy…what is VON.  sounds like Veterans or Visiting Nurses ??? Two dogs bathed yesterday, so it sounds like even if you have bad weather you still have plenty to keep you busy. I remember those days…and it felt so good to accomplish things. Nice memories.

Larry, I do not need the Flu, so I am being very cautious..no hugs with anyone, and keeping my hands washed more frequently, and I use a commercial disinfectant wipe made by Lysol to wipe the handles of my cart, as our service people handle it daily, as they do many others. Yes, our staff is very happy and very loyal.

Hal…EEEEK ! A snake ! I haven't seen a snake since I left Mn. many moons ago. I hope your ladies have a wonderful trip and stay safe. Will your good son in law still be near by and available to you ? I hope so.

Gloria, Rowntree has a t.v. company called Direct  TV. I had never heard of it before. But I pay my connection fee to Rowntree, as I do my computer connection fee. It is included in my monthly rent statement. But the servicing is done by our Rowntree employees.

I must get down to our Library. two books to return and more to pickup so as much as I like to stay comfortable, I have to put on some "walking" clothes and be decent. See y'all later. June

maryAnn, I have been taking my paper outside on the deck, and having my coffee. Just like to get the fresh air. The chip monk come up and eats out of the feeder I have on the porch.  To day while I was watching I wondered how small  there babies, must be when they are born.

Larry, we only have cablevision.

Gloria, right now that is my exercise, walking up and down the aisles, holding fast to the cart.  the only trouble, I see and buy something I don't always need. This last time I should not have checked out the bakery, first time in a long time I have done that. Would you believe? I bought one hard roll, one cranberry muffin and now hear this  a piece of Tiramisu cake. :smiley6600:

Hal, that was a lot of reading.  Someone sent me a list of all the movie stars that were in World 2, it is long list and lots of bronze , sliver stars plus purple hearts among. In those days every one seem to be patriotic.  On the 4th. people drove with flags on the radiator cap.  I remember our car, had a set of 4

The cleaning dynamo was here this morning and all my kitchen cupboards are clean.  Some are even empty.  I chucked a lot of stuff and I have a box ready for Goodwill.  My daughter stopped by and took an armload home with her.  BOY! am I every tired!

GLORIA de  in the bakery department at Stop & Shop I could never pass the Kaiser rolls or a slice of cheesecake.

JANE  some one must be cleaning closets here. Lot of things on a table in the laundry room that if anyone likes they can take. Good place to put something good you can no longer use. The table gets pretty full when someone new moves in or moves out.

 Jeanne Lee some times I seam to be blind in on eye and can't see out of the other,so may have missed something but why are scolding Gloria for posting a link about the forth ( so beautiful ) on the third Here. well I am tried Made two doctors calls today. first early at 8: A M . seen a male nurse he cut the stitches out of my wound also cut all the scab off and opened it wide open. and put 3 tapes over it called it good. just a while ago I took them off boiled it out with peroxide and put honey on it and covered it with a sterile bandage. so good night and sweet dreams.

Just a quick note to tell Everyfriend I have been in in ICU at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alalabama since a week ago Saturday.using a Cpap mask.  Today I had a thorostensis and they drew two liters of fluid off my left lung.  They hope then I can again use regular oxygen.  I will have to go to a rehab facility if I ever get out of here, and then have home health care.  Prayers would be appreciated.  I miss you all.

Joan, you have really had a time of it!  :yikes:  And it looks like it will be a while before things will be back to "normal" (whatever that is!).  You are certainly missed here in S&F and the subject of many prayers.
