Don't Look Back

Don't look back on what has happened,
Disappointments and sad things...
Instead look toward the future,
And the joy that each day brings.

Don't live your life unhappy,
From things already done...
Concentrate on your accomplishments,
Battles fought that you have won.

The chapters of your life are like,
A book you might have written...
Full of fun and many good times,
And those when you were bitten.

Looking back will serve no purpose,
And is a waste of time...
Mere lessons from the book  of life,
That  guide you down the line.

Don't look back upon your failures,
Instead keep moving on...
For life is what you make it,
And too soon has come and gone.

Sun is just coming up. I see some faint pink in the clouds. We had a little rain earlier; doesn't look like much.

Off to get my new glasses this morning and then a stop at the gas station, the pharmacy and UPS.

No the CANDY isn't all gone!  I didn't get enough halloweeners to get it all gone.  Now I'm going to have to eat it and you all know what that means!

We were warned of heavy storms this morning but the sun is a shinin' to welcome the day!  Maybe we'll get it later but it said early this morning.  We shall see what we shall see!

I found out that daughter Christy and Cooper's Mom, Frankie will not be arriving in Maryland until sometime tomorrow.  That means that Frankie will not be back in Lewisburg until sometime Sunday.  And if I know her, she won't be up and about until at least noon!  And since she has to work in the morning, I bet Cooper will be overnight Sunday.  I guess I'll find out.

I hope you all have a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's nice to come in and see all the people who posted.  I didn't stop by the office last night because I fell asleep twice watching Perry Mason.  It was late and I decided it was time to hit the haystack!  And I slept all through the night!  I didn't wake up once until Cooper thought he heard something around 5 and I was already awake anyway so we got up and checked out the house and the yard and then got breakfast ready.  He already ate his and he's now in begging position.

LLOYD, it's so good to see your posts!  We sure did miss you!  Come back often.  And about those apples....one of my daughter Cindy's friends who grew up in a house near us, does those dried apples and every time i see her she has a pck for me!  I love them and I love seeing her even if she didn't have them.  Cindy is my daughter in Oklahoma and sometimes Tamra and another friend of Cindy's will call or just stop by and pick me up to go out for lunch to an Amish place that they know I love!

I guess I better go get dressed before the daylight arrives so Cooper and I can have our first walk of the day.  You all take the day and make it yours!

QuoteI didn't wake up once until Cooper thought he heard something around 5
Jane, that must have been me getting up to feed the cats and have my first cup of tea.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY, our temps are off and running at 30 degrees!  We're below freezing!  I'm NOT looking forward to winter!  My phone clock changed itself overnight.  I'm NOT in favor of that either!  A clock is a clock and shouln't be changing a couple times a year!

I'm watching for light in the sky so Cooper can have his walk.  I'm not looking forward to going out in below freezing weather!  But I guess it's one of the things I'll have to bear if I stick around on earth!  I wish you all a good day.  Make it your own in every way!

This evening I must finish making up my bed, then I will sit down and watch some TV and, maybe, read a little before bed.

Hi Lloyd. I used to regularly eat dried apple slices, along with dried pineapple and banana chips. Haven't had any of them in quite a while. Right now, what I have on my shelf are prunes and dates.

Good Morning Amy and anyone else who shows face in here today.  AMY, with the weather report, I'd almost think I lived next door to you!  We started out at 31 degrees today an are heading for a high of 59!

I'm getting stuff together to make my fruit cake that I donate at my church sort of in my mother's name.  She started baking it for the sales back when I was in high school and when she did, everyone helped.  Even my best friend came over and helped just because she loved being with all of us.  Now I just make one batch in little sizes and I take it to church on the Sunday before Christmas.  Yesterday, a lady asked me after church if I would be bringing it this year!  I have my list made up and Cathy is taking me shopping one day this week.  It will be make and set by the end of next week.  Then it has to age and then be wrapped and packed to take in.  lots of work but lots of good memories too!

I guess I better get ready to take Cooper for a walk.  I'd rather not go out in the cold but he loves his morning walk!  I wish you all a great day!  Take it and make it!

Merry Monday - I think!

Tornadoes are very rare in November and even rarer in the wee hours at any time of year. Nor is torrential, flooding rain.  We've had both in the past two days  :o

Yesterday at 3:00 a.m., I was awakened by a storm alert on my phone. Got up, got dressed and ready to go in my closet (I don't have a storm shelter). Three tornadoes happened about an hour later in a strip along the southeast side of the OKC metro area. They destroyed more than 40 houses/businesses and left more than 9,000 people without power.
My area wasn't affected - although we had steady rain for most of the day.

Had the same thing happen this morning!!! Even though a twister was predicted as heading my way this morning, it faded away before it got here.  I haven't heard of any damage in metro areas today but prediction is for another round later this morning and afternoon. :(

And that's what's happening in my world.

CALLIE, when I saw the news about the horrific damage from the tornadoes on our news I immediately prayed for the safety of all involved and hoped it did not include you or any of your family.🙏

WELCOME BACK LLOYD.  I am so glad your granddaughter was able to get you back to our group again.  Happy to read you and Nancy are doing well.

We finally have our first snow. Not much here at our home but quite a bit in the mountains. The  skiers are ecstatic‼️ I am NOT😆😆😆😆 We need the moisture so badly, but winter cold and weather conditions I could sure live without.

We were to leave for AZ on the 6th but a family situation has presented and we are needed her for a bit longer.

My best to you all.  We are not looking for to the election results as we are fearful of the unrest they have been warning us about.  I want it OVER AND DONE so America can move on, of course.  GOD BLESS 🇺🇸

Have a good day EVERYFRIEND 🍁

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Well, one of those Oklahoma tornadoes hit pretty close to where my daughter, Cindy lives in northern OK.  Thank goodness it missed her and my granddaughter Ali's famiy.  Cindy said it was close but they escaped!  I'm very grateful it missed all my family and friends!

Cooper went home last night and I missed him.  Frankie will be dropping him off soon for the day today and then she's off on Wednesday and I'll be baking fruitcake!  Then it will be set away to age and delivered to my church on the Sunday before Christmas.

Now I better get ready for Cooper's arrival.  I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!

Lloyd, as I recall, the pineapple comes out very, very sweet. I guess drying the slices concentrates all the natural sweetness in them.

Jane, sorry, I forgot you have family in OK. Glad to hear they are okay too.

Today, I have to make a trip to the pharmacy to pick up my med perspiration, so I will probably do a little grocery shopping too. The front room still needs vacuumed, but otherwise most of the house chores are done for a day or two. That means, if I am not glued to the TV set checking out what is going on with the election, I have some time to relax and read.

Saw a new cat down by the tree line yesterday morning, a black (or dark grey) and white. I keep forgetting to check to see if the groundhog is still out foraging in the late afternoon. A squirrel, I suspect, tried to dig in the dirt where I planted my narcissus, but it doesn't look like it pulled any up.

Weather forecast still doesn't show any rain, less than 50%, until Sunday and again next Wednesday.

Oh, no, no, no, Amy. The little bugger has sharp teeth as well as sharp claws. It is a slow process in part because his nails are semi-transparent and buried in long hair. Hard to find and cut before he gets bitey.

I just got a look at the web feed of the wildfire just below Palmerton, across the Lehigh River from the Lehigh Gap Nature Center. It continues to slowly but steadily spread. There don't seem to be many firemen around, nor do they seem particularly well equipped for fighting this kind of fire. The two helicopters that are dumping water can't haul a lot. Their efforts seem for naught. The hill area is rather steep and full of loose scree. Difficult terrain for firefighters on the ground.

Hi, Patricia. Glad you are back.

The PA Department of Conservation has taken over the firefighting duties. The local firefighting teams are now backup. Last I saw before I went out, they estimated the fire is about 20% contained. This fire is very small potatoes compared to the fires out west. Unfortunately for the very popular Appalachian Trail and its hikers, it just adds another obstacle to safe hiking and to completing hiking goals this year. Helene did a number on the Trail last month. Clean-up and reconstruction is underway. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy estimates that about 1,000 to 1,200 hikers complete the entire trail each year, about a quarter of those who start.

I feel a nap coming on. Later, ya'll.

MG ,would a scratching post with sandpaper on it help? I know with the dogs some are ok with nail trimming and others hate it! Jess ,has to be lightly sadated.while our Golden girl would just lay out on the floor and I could cut them. Same with the neighbours dog he would lay still for the nail trim.....then hugs and treats!!!

I don't think I'll see who won the election even if I stay up  all night!  I've been watching the politicians all day and there are still no answers.  I'm having my supper now and then I'm going to give in to the time change and take a nap.

I've also changed my mind about the fruit cake.  I'm going to wait until my cleaning ladies have been here and gon on Saturday and start it then.  That will be sometime Saturday morning.

Now I wish you all a pleasant nights sleep and a happy tomorrow!  Make the day your own in every way!

There is an old, old hack for cats and small dogs, re nail trimming. You put the animal in the shirt with legs in the armholes, hoist them up and trim the nails that way. One guy used two old flannel shirts so he could do four legs at a time. Since then, there have been all kinds of similar commercial products following that same principle.

Good morning..

We are off and runnig this morning heading to the city. Kyle gets his new hearing aids and we both get to pick out our new glasses.

Patricia, another one that the vet told us about but having BIG dogs it didn't work . Take a cloth grocey bag cut holes for the feet and hang it up or have someone hold it. I think I would rather have someone hold it unless one has good means of hanging up.

Better get crackin.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The dried catnip is not likely to help. Shan eats it. Speaking of catnip, Oscar loves it as long as it is fresh. I used to have a volunteer patch at the house (last year it disappeared for some reason). Anytime I went outside to do yard work, I had to make sure I picked a few sprigs for him. He doesn't care for the dried stuff. The shirtsleeve thing I have never heard of.

I'm still alive but have had a couple of not so good days so I haven't written anything but did read what you all said.  My brain worked well enough to find someone to clean roof and gutters next week so I can still function some.  David made spaghetti last night.  He still  doesn't  like  to  cook but does enough to keep us alive.   ;D

Take care,  All.

Time to say Good Night Everyfriend!  It was a beautiful day outside and I let Cooper take me for 3 walks today but I made sure I had plendy of kleenex in my pockets. My nose has decided to make a nuisance of itself and thank goodness, I don't feel this colad in any other part of my boday.  But I don't want to be far from the kleenex box.  It doesn't give me any warning!

I put dinner in the crock pot today and it turned out pretty good.  I started with a hunk of venison and then added some canned tomatoes, canned carrots, canned green beans and some spices and onions and I had the best soup for supper that I've had in a long time!  And there's more for tomorrow!

Now I'm ready for the haystack!  At least my stuffy nose isn't keeping me awake!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Come back and say "hello" to us.  We miss you when you don't!

Phyllis, sorry to hear that your are "under the weather". I am hoping you feel much better soon.

Weather today: It is 44oF right now, to not go above 70o today. Fire hazard warnings are out now. The forecast still predicts some rain Sunday afternoon and night.

The Blue Mountain fire at Palmerton update: The firefighters have brought in the large equipment and have been clearing and doing controlled burns (what I used to know as back-fires) to stop the main fire in its tracks. The news is reporting that the fire is now more than 50% contained. Small potatoes compared to the devastation in CA.

I've seen no news concerning the other fire on or near the Appalachian Trail in Franklin County. The trail as a whole has suffered a great deal of damage this year what with the Hurricane Helene damage and wildfires in several other places. I heard yesterday that NJ is fighting two wildfires, but I didn't check where.

The sun is coming up, I've had my wake-up cup of tea, and now it is time for breakfast.

At least one of those fires in NJ might be one I have seen comments on, on the Palisades, opposite upper NYC. Visible from the East side of the Hudson River. The smell and smoke going Eastward. We have a "Red Flag" warning, and I'm sure we'll be hearing of fires on this side of the river, but more North of here.

Good morning from Colorado where I feel like I am living in an igloo🥶

We have been shut in since Tuesday.....only activity out doors is Bob taking our two granddogs out for potty times and then trying to get the snow off of them when they come back in.  Currently it appears we have around 18 to 20" on the ground‼️

We were to have quite a bit of driving to do but school was canceled Thursday and Friday and most of our granddaughters activities were cancelled as well.  Thankfully.

We, as I mentioned before, had planned to leave on the 6th for Arizona.  How did we manage to pick a date in the future that would end up being a huge storm in CO and New Mexico where we would be driving through‼️‼️ Currently we hope to leave next Tuesday the12th.

Two of our sons were here for a short time on Wednesday....any time my kiddos are here this mama is one happy lady‼️ Our oldest is here from Boston.  He is in Vail at their mountain home.  Dr. Dave had to head out to Florida for meetings.  We hope he can return as planned this afternoon.

I enjoyed reading the comments about clipping nails on our pets.  Surprisingly, our Smokey cat will just lay on Bob's chest and let him clip his nails.  He can be a biter at times but never has during this process.  We are shocked.....of course Smokey knows he gets treats afterwards and he really enjoys that.

I wish you all a good Saturday. I have a big washing to get going on.....so I best get with it.

Good morning

Starting out at 25° and  possible rain day. Laundry dried on the line yesterday and I did get the grass cut. Lawnmower was a bit reluctant to go but after a few tried it hummed along.

Today is a welcomed day of rest. May go play in the sewing room.

Patricia, that is why I go early to shop....less public .  :)

Jenny, please don't share. As beautiful as snow can be I don't mind waiting till the end of March for it.  ;)

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Morning everyone. It is partly cloudy here. Weather forecast still says rain, a wee bit around 9am and then from 6pm to 4am. That is a good thing right now. Wildfires and brush fires have been popping up all over the place in Eastern PA, in New Jersey and even NYC and surrounds. The firefighters sure can use the help.

I saw the fluffy yellow Shan alike out by the woodline this morning. It and the black don't wonder here much anymore, and it appears, no longer together. I saw one black and white early last week, but haven't seen it since. Still no sight of deer, and I have not looked to see if the groundhog is still foraging at the bottom of the field. Most of the birds have gone, and the leaves on the trees have all of a sudden dropped while I wasn't looking.

Shan waited until I ordered more scratch pads (coming today) before deciding to break the cord on the "fish-pole" toy he likes. I think I can fix it, though. So I can probably put off buying a new one.

Today includes a load of laundry and getting the trash gathered to take to the bin. Tomorrow I need to remember to make December appointments for Shan's annual checkup and shots, and for my car's annual inspection.

Good morning, minus 2 and clear, which means the temperatures will be dropping again through the next week.

Nothing new here, other than Farrah also needs to go in next month for her annual checkup and immunizations. Meet and greets and coffee are done, Farrah's off on another nap, and I've also got laundry and a few other items wanting attention today. Also, no Thanksgiving plans this year, everyone seems to be staying close to home this year. Last year with the nine of us was fun, but I don't know if we'll be able to have that many together any time soon.

MG, the only animals I see where I live, in the original part of the city, are ravens and one or two over wintering pigeons. No feral cats as they wouldn't live long with the hawks, eagles, fox and lynx about. A river otter was in the news yesterday, sliding down a river bank onto the ice and going back to repeat for some time yesterday. That's only a block from here, and I used to see them playing when I lived out by the university, but I no longer walk everywhere as I'd done in the past.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!  Good Evening!  and Good Night!  Whatever it is!  I've had a very frustrating day today!  I spent a big part of it looking for things that I put "out of the way" when the cleaning lady was coming and then wondering if my son was going to come by and try raking leaves in the rain.  He didn't and I really didn't expect him to!

Now I'm really worn out, tired, sleepy and ready to relax.  This was a LOOONG, TIRING day for and "old" lady!  I hope tomorrow is a better one!  Bless you all!!!

Liquid sunshine this morning with a temp of 48°. A day of Rememberance here for those that served.

Will package the slow cooked ribs from yesterday to freeze for later. I like it when the meat just falls off the bones.

Work around home today, maybe I can finish sewing the binding on one quilt?? Most of it is done other than the part of joining the two ends. Then I can sit and hand sew the rest on the back.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm ready for the haystack!  Today was "one of THOSE days"!  If it was going to happen, it happened.

first, we've been tracking mice for a couple of days.  Cathy came and plugged all the holes around the incoming pipes and we set traps all over the house.  The first two were found in the waste basket in my office by the  cleaning ladies.  After that, Cathy and I discovered (I think) 8 more under the kitchen sink.  There have not been any since suppertime last night so I think maybe we got them all.

Then, while we were rooting under the sink, we found that one of the pipes was leaking and I called my favorite allpurpose house fixer guy and he came over and found a back pipe connection under the sink.  He fixed it and that was that!.  He cleaned out and dried the pan I had under it, put it back and told me to watch it.  If it started collecting water, call him.  I think it's OK.

Theres under the sink stuff all over my kitchen that I'm not putting back until I'm sure the leak is gone and I'm once again, beat right down to my toenails!  Just going to a dr appt makes me tired these days but all this other stuff really took over.

Now I'm heading for the haystack and praying that tomorrow is a better day.  Oh yes, I forgot, I had 4 loads of wash going during all this!  Good night, my friends!

When it starts to get cool all those little critters try to come inside. Even a 1/4" gap under a door or garage door, is enough room for access. In recent years I have had crickets get in at the back door.

Thankfully a couple of days of sunshine have brought me back to life‼️

The snow is melting well.  We continue to pack things up in preparation for our departure for Arizona.  The roads appear the drive will be easy with no chance of snow🤞🤞

We drove 75 miles north to visit my brother and sil.  He loaned me a small concentrator for me to use if needed in Prescott.  The altitude there is the same as it is here at our home south of Denver.  I thought I could get by without the oxygen but at times my numbers still drop down into the mid 80's😩 Better safe than sorry.  We took them to lunch and enjoyed a nice visit. The drive home was long due to traffic going through Denver.

Tomorrow we will pack the car and hope we can get all of the stuff we are taking in‼️‼️

Thank you for your service if there are any veterans here🇺🇸

Sleep well.

Gosh, Jane, that sounds like a regular invasion.

I think I just missed wishing Jenny a good trip to Arizona.

Sun is just getting ready to peek up over the horizon. Temp is 47o and only going into the low 50s today.

The fires on the East Coast are being just as stubborn to get rid of as in CA. The Prospect Park fire in Brooklyn NY is out. A Sterling Forest fire claimed the life of an 18 year old forest service employee died when a tree fell on him as he was fighting the fire there. There are still at least two fires still going in NJ. I haven't heard a peep lately about the wildfire up by the Lehigh River, but I assume the firebreaks and back-burns should have it just about out. The newest one I know about, is the one very near Reading, PA which is still not under control. As of yesterday, they have been making preparations to evacuate people. If any of you have been through Reading and seen the landmark Pagoda, the fire is across the narrow valley from that. Most of the video footage I have seen so far was shot looking across the narrow valley from there. What little rain we had in Mid-Atlantic slowed down the fires but has not stopped them. For those interested in such things, I found this government website with map that tracks wildfires and smoke distribution. The chart below gives info on reported wildfires between Sept 4 and Nov 8. https://data.usatoday.com/fires/?page=4&anchor=#firetable

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope it's a better morning for you all than it is so far for me.  I'm taking this day off .... pretty much!  I didn't sleep well last night.  I woke up around 3 a.m. sweating so bad that I had to change what I was wearing and finish the night on the sofa.  I think it might have something to do with the sheets on the bed.  They are relatively new and probably made of something I'm allergic to.  This isn't the first time this happened.  But it only seems to be in the winter when the house is all closed up and the windows are closed.  Maybe they're summer sheets.  Anyway, they're coming off the bed today

Seems like when one thing happens, a dozen follow!  I hope you all are having better days.  Enjoy them when you can!  I wish you all well!

Good Morning Everyfriend!

PATRICIA, I sure hope Wednesdays are better on your schedule than Tuesdays!  That didn't look like your day was going very well!!!!

My plan for today is to get the fruit cake baked and in the aging container.  I sure wish I had my Mom's aging container!  But then again, I probably couldn't lift it.  It was one of those old country crocks and was big enough to hold a lot of fruit cakes.  However, I can always feel my Mother's presence when I'm making the fruit cake and that's good!  I know she's happy to know it's still going to church!

I wish you all a good day and I'll check in when I'm finished!

Good morning, minus 13 this morning and meet and greets and morning routines done and Farrah fed and coffee's perked.

Jane, yesterday was yet another day when they yet again turned off the water until evening to try to fix it. If they haven't today will be another between 8-5 waterless day. For the past few weeks, it has remained at either lukewarm or cold.

Today it starts off cold, and you have to let it run a bit to get back to hot. So no laundry nor plant watering until they figure out what they're doing. I do have several bottles of refrigerated water and a stew pot full setting on the counter.

I'm not a fruitcake person, so I've never made it, but a friend makes one where she soaks it in brandy. I don't know whether this is common practice or not. It's been a while since I've baked bread, cakes or made a pie, so I'm woefully out of practice.

Hello Everyfriend and good Night!  I have the fruit cake aging in the crock in the coolest room in the house.  I don't know how your friends added the brandy but my mother always put it in an open container in the center of the cakes with a tight lid on the outside container and no lid on the Brandy.  That's what I do also.  I try to do it the same way my mother always did!  and you know, I feel her in the kitchen with me while I'm cooking and mixing.  And it got to the point where she always called on my Dad to help stir at the end when it was thick.  So I call him too and I feel his presence, too!  Now I just have to get it out and wrap it and put it in the Christmas basket to take in on the Sunday before Christmas.

Cathy is leaving for Texas EARLY Friday morning so she can be there when her new grandson finds his way into the world!  I sure wish I could be there too!  I'll let you know when he makes his way into life!

Christy is coming up from Maryland on Sunday to be with me and make sure I make it to my dr. appts.  They are all so good to me.  My SIL (Christy's Husband) called me tonight to find out what I wanted of the deer he shot.  So that will be along also!

Now I'm going to find my way to the haystack because Cooper will be arriving a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow.  Make the day yours in every way!

It should be. Now we need a bit of rain to wash the pollen into the ground, and away from where the leaf blower guys can stir it up. It definitely feels like Fall is here, and most of the leaves are down.

Good morning, it's minus 19 presently heading for a high of minus seven. Friday, we'll get a modest gain back into the pluses, and Monday will plunge back into the minuses. Winter in the arctic is here until April.

Rick, everything is big and flashy in Vegas, it seems. The lister, I understand, is already quite well off. As is the realtor giving the tour. Personally, I'm with Amy. I don't need to live on the edge of a high-end racetrack. However, I do enjoy looking at real estate's highs and lows around the world.

I need to do several chores or, as Callie would say, domestic duties today that were put off by the last two days' water shut-offs. But first, a foray into the Internet.

I hope everything goes well with Nancy's knee replacement Lloyd. Yes, please keep us updated.

Amy, my thoughts also. Wooly Bears have been scarce around here the last several years. I've only seen one this fall and it was rather small. I certainly don't look forward to driving in sleet and freezing rain or on icy roads. Right now it is 39oF, and it looks like we've had a little light rain.

Yesterday was cold and rainy but today is supposed to be dry and a little warmer.  Banner Elk, a ski resort up in the NC mountains, used to have wooly worm races.  But, they had to stop it because they couldn't find enough worms to race.  ( I  am  not  kidding-- they are a little rowdy at those resorts sometimes!) And, I haven't seen one in a long time here either. We  used to see lots of  them on the highways. I suppose climate change has caused them to all move up North.

Lloyd,  hope Nancy does well with knee surgery and that her knee will be better.

Phillis, your post about the wooly worms got me to investigating. It wasn't long until I found out that they hatch in the fall and overwinter via their ability to survive freezing solid during the winter. Mild winters with a repeated freeze/thaw cycle damages many of the caterpillars. It's scientific name is Pyrrharctia isabella, aka: the Isabella tiger moth.

So, the next question is, is anyone looked into that ability to possibly devise a way for humans to survive long space voyages?

MG, I  am sure that scientists have explored that.  Suspended animation, freezing, induced coma?  SciFi writers certainly have.  Orwell comes to mind and his book 1984.  So far they don't seem to know how to overcome the deterioration of human tissue or the factor of time and aging.

Phyllis I just today watched a clip from a congressional thing regarding what we used to call UFOs. The questions included one regarding secret experimental use of genetic manipulation, including any possible genetic material from aliens, on humans by the government. Of course the witnesses all said they were not aware of any. Same questions, same answers we've all heard for the last 40 years at least. At least the government is taking all these unidentified sightings more seriously again.

Good morning...

Starting out at 32° and it is to be a sunny day. Too much running around yesterday to do what needed to be done here.Today I have a date with Chuck, the log splitter, electric and easy to use.

MG, wooly bears are so cute , pick them up and they curl into a ball. Used to watch the farm animals and when the horses and cows started to get winter coats we knew winter was on its way.

Patricia, :cup:  :hello:

Jane, how are you?

Better get the day on the go........time goes faster than I do lately.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The sun has almost arrived. It is cloudy, but I see some breaks and the clouds are turning purple and pink. It is now 49o. Oh, now the clouds are turning a bright peach color showing through the bare trees of the woods behind me.

I had a little trouble getting in this morning. The site was very slow mode.

I hope today is better than yesterday. I ended up doing very little.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I had overnight company last night.  Cooper stayed with me all night.  Seems Frankie had a date and she didn't want to have to be home at a specific time.

I got a lot done yesterday but don't ask me what.  I didn't keep any record.  My DIL called to check up on me (Cathy is out of town) and she also invited me to go to the high school concert that my granddaughter has a big part in production.  I'm going tonight!

Cathy is in Texas awaiting the birth of her grandson!  She's keeping us involved and I'm getting very excited.  Granddaughter Natalie is in the hospital and in labor!  I can hardly think of anything else!

I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning, back to the plus for the weekend, 7 presently but Monday temperatures will plummet, and we'll have our first 30 below of the season. Until we're forecasted a rapid rise on Wednesday with freezing rain. Climate change is definitely not fun, we've been breaking records right and left, the last three years. One consolation is that we don't seem to be having the frigid temperatures of minus forty and below since 2020.

Jane, I imagine Natalie is in the same mood.

Starting at 20° this morning with rain later on today.

Using the log splitter was fun!! It is electric and once you have the chunk of oood up on it, step on a pat and pull the lever....easy peasy. Got one area done and may work on the cherry later this week.

A day of rest here..we shall see how that goes.

Good morning..

Not going to see any sun today  and starting temp is 29°.

Managed to get our glasses and of course leave  money at Costco yesterday. One lady told me we have a dolar store and a $500.00 store..meaning Costco!

Tying up loose ends today, die to the postal strike here all our bills will be held up but we can still pay them at the bank. That may be a job for tomorrow as I need to fill up jerry cans with high test gas for the snow blower.

Seems someone has been loading up the clothes hamper ,so laundry will also be done.

BarbStAubrey, first welcome to S&F and to the Soda Shoppe.  You did nothing wrong, that is the way it goes when liked. If you look back at your message you will see I "liked" it.

Jane, hope all went well at the Drs yesterday.

Patricia, is your snow still there or did it melt away? I am getting ready for the dance but don't mind if it doesn't happen.

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Hey, Barb. I see you made it. Don't forget to say hi over on the Library Bookshelf. TomeReader sometimes show up.

The sun is just about ready to pop up over the horizon. Temp is 43o and will be in the low 50s today. No rain predicted until Nov 26. Voluntary water restrictions in this area are in effect, but my little water company is not on the list. Veolia is a British company that has been buying or servicing smaller water companies. Apparently I moved into one of them. They are not real good at notifications like Pennsylvania American which is who I had at the house.

The highlight of the day will be getting my monthly delivery from Amazon. Otherwise, it is the usual tidying up and my continuing very slow battle with trying to find spaces for my remaining boxed items. If it would just turn a little colder and stay there, I can change out my summer for winter clothes. I did manage to pull out one sweatshirt for the one really chilly day we had last week. Maybe I can scrape together enough for the laundry for added excitement. The cats will want attention and there are books to read. So, I am not without things to do, just nothing terribly exciting.

Good morning, minus 30 with about three inches of snow presently. Tomorrow we venture back into the pluses and Thursday may bring freezing rain which should turn any remaining snow into ice. Nothing is familiar this winter and freezing rain, which we've had a lot of this year, is a new phenomenon along with warming winter temperatures.

Every time I go outside, I take along my trekking pole. With my weeble wobble movements, it's a winter time necessity. This is my second winter without glasses, as no one will prescribe them for me until I have cataract surgery. Presently in the city, there is no one with an available schedule to do the surgery and I cannot afford to fly out to have it done.

Nothing new here, yesterday morning I spent ferrying papers from one place to another and the day before that in the laundry room. Tomorrow is catching up domestic duties. Thanks, Callie, for that expression, and of course, daily meet and greets and daily routines.

Callie, I wanted to mention that I still have Hoover cousins in Orchard City. I remember we spoke once about it being a suburb of OKC?

Hello to Everyfriend!  It's beem a busy day here also.  Christy took me to WalMart today and I got most of the things on my list.  I took some off and put them on another list because we're heading for the Farmers Market tomorrow.  She loves that place!  I also forgot 2 things I needed so we're going to pick them up tomorrow!

Also, she made dinner for us tonight so I had a chance to take her little doggie for a walk right before it got dark!  He's such a little cutie.  And tomorrow she's going to help me post the pictures of our new baby.  This afternoon, Granddaughter Natalie called while she was holding him and we got to see him move around and open and close his eyes and just be a new baby at home.  I wanted so much to take him in my arms and hug him.  I sure wish they lived closer!!

Now I'm going to head for the haystack so I have some energy tomorrow.  Cooper will be arriving at 7 and we want to hit the Farmers Market in the morning!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.

Barb, I'm in the Oklahoma City area.  We've alternated between wearing shorts and heavy coats most of this month! Trees still have leaves, flowers are still blooming and, yet, a possible freeze is predicted for parts of the state tonight.
Fortunately, my area wasn't affected by the terrible tornado damage but we came close. As of today, the state has had 23 tornadoes with damage in November.

Patricia,  I "Googled" Ocean City, Oklahoma and all I came up with was a neighborhood in an OKC suburb.  Will be interested in what your sister said.

I don't have to get up at any particular time tomorrow morning...so I don't think I will! ;)

Sleep well, Everyfriend, and have pleasant dreams.

Good morning, a late start again today with temperatures warming once more and warmer tomorrow with freezing rain expected.

Callie, thank you, but it is, I believe, Orchard City.

Jane, you are doubly lucky in that all of your family is close and that you have a new precious great-grandchild.

Amy, our postal service cannot go on strike but what do I know, I'll have to look it up. Edit: I was totally wrong. They are in arbitration presently and,"October 19th, Some 200,000 mail carriers have reached a tentative contract deal with the U.S. Postal Service that includes backdated pay raises and a promise to provide workers with air-conditioned trucks."

Did not know postal workers were on strike - that would have had to be national right? My young postal delivery person is a sweetheart - here in Magnolia the outside postboxes are lined up on only one side of the street - this house has a large front yard with a circular drive and since I am, in just the last year dependent on my walker getting to the postbox across the street was a challenge at best - and so he said there is a caveat that most are not aware of that after a certain age or if a physical issue makes it difficult the postal system here can authorize you put a box near your front door and since he has this route rather than going through the system to get approval just do it. And so I've a black rural mailbox 6 feet from the front porch - on top if I do not get out to pickup my mail for a day or two he stops and knocks on Paul's door to check if I'm Ok. Paul is my son who lives 5 streets away. Can you believe!

Paul was the one who convinced me to have all my utility bills paid automatically and to receive all the bills through my email - sure makes it easy and what I love about the electric company billing is they send me a weekly graph showing my use of electricity compared to the preceding week - so different here compared to Austin where everything was on one bill except gas - here the city takes care of NO utilities so there is a separate bill for everything, water, electricity, gas, garbage, I have a septic so the septic people come 4 times a year so that charge, a small HO annual fee on and on it goes and so paying automatically is a God send.

Hope everyone is having a good day - I'm off to plant some herbs in hanging baskets for my front porch

Barb, there's no one national union. There are different postal unions in different areas of the country.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe November 1 , 2024
Post by: CallieOK on November 20, 2024, 03:37:11 PM
Patricia, I'm sorta familiar with Midwest City. Had a good friend (now deceased) there and used to play Bridge at her house. There's a small college there, also, and Great Grandson's mother will graduate there in December; she has taken all her classes on-line.

Barb, we also have "cluster" mailboxes at the end of the block and, when I could no longer walk there and back, my son helped me get a mailbox by my front door. Had to get a doctor's permission, fill out a form for post office and get a mailbox. I wanted it next to garage facing door so I wouldn't have to step outside but HOA didn't approve that.  ::)

I also pay all utility bills and some others on-line through my bank. Get bills through e-mail and, because all aren't the same each month, I do have to go into bank website and type in the amount. I can choose date to be paid as long as it's a day or two before bill is due.
Agree that it's a God send!

Doing desk work today.  "Get busy, Callie"!!!!  :knuppel2:

The answer is yes --- and no. Got real comfortable in front of the TV --- then fell asleep for most of it. But my son saw it all and filled me in. He also watches it as it reruns later. This week it was in conflict with his Hockey Game (Rangers).

Grrr! Got out to clean off the ice on the car and discovered one of my tires is going flat, or at least way lower than it should be. Had to cancel an early appointment for this morning and made one for the tire people to check it out. I expect I can get the less than two miles to my tire store. If, a big if, their inspector has time when I go in I might even be able to get the car inspection done. Otherwise, I will be taking it back on the 5th for that.

We had some actual rain last night. Right now it is about 42o and sunny. We may get some snow showers later this afternoon.

Time to see if I have a load of laundry I can do before I go out.

No snow here either but lots of rain through the night!  Christy went out to meet her long-time best friend.  The always get together several times when she comes up here.  They met in 6th grade and have bee close friends ever since.

They raise chickens at her house and she brought alone a rooster that had to meet his end and we cooked it up for the broth which I will be canning.  When I'm finished here I'm going to out and sort out the best meat and grind it up to make Chicken salad for sandwiches.  I love it when she brings this stuff with her!

I wish you a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way.  I'll be back when I can!

Good morning, Mother Nature's giving us plus seven today, with fog and freezing drizzle. Monday we had minus thirty.

Nothing going on here except an Amazon order due and a last load of wash. Farrah has gotten demanding for her knuckle sandwiches. Lately, every time I sit down, she props in front of my feet, looking up encouragingly. I knuckle the area between her ears while, with my ring finger, I scratch above her eyes.

Meet and greets decided against getting together for Thanksgiving this year, so, I don't plan on more than a hot turkey sandwich. I received a free turkey for spending a certain amount at the grocery, so I'll be having a lot of turkey, perhaps through spring.

Here's hoping everyone is having a good day and enjoying being with family and friends.

I never thought of it that way - but a good thought.  Especially with all the "Medicare" commercials we have been inundated with.

It must have snowed a bit overnight. None stuck on the ground but car windshields had some. Ground is still fairly warm.  Heavy snow at the football game last night off Lake Erie.

Sure was a mess up Scranton way. One of the major routes up around that area was at a standstill with two lanes (northbound I think) closed to traffic. One of those storm chaser video guys was stuck in it. He said it was freezing cold. A concern there was how the drivers might run out of gas trying to keep warm while waiting for the road to get cleared. It seems the first responders and police couldn't get through to the accident itself and had to find a way around to the lanes going in the other direction in order to assist.

My sister was out in it down here. The snow was not laying here but the air was so damp and bitterly cold that she was having trouble warming up. She was still chilled an hour or so after she got home. I, on the other hand, stayed in. I didn't even venture out to the mail box just across the street.

I spent the day on the computer, doing a few clean up chores and the rest of the day reading (with intervals of snoozing) wrapped up in my couch blanket and weighed down by both cats. Shortly, I will be back on the sofa to watch some TV and entertain Shan who has designated early evening as playtime whether I want to play or not. He is pretty insistent.

Time to make my evening :coffee:

Hadn't noticed last year, I guess I was so busy still unpacking but this year can't help notice how the sun is barely in the backyard that cooks during the summer - the house, only one story casts a huge shadow and then where I thought the sun being lower would reach in and shine on my front porch it doesn't - that porch overhang is far wider than I realized - this is the time of year that gives me the creeps - the days are shorter and shorter then Christmas but about a week after New Years all of a sudden life has promise in that I can actually see the sun staying longer and it appears to me brighter -

Ok 7 weeks - I can handle anything for only 7 weeks - Need to stop kicking myself for not accomplishing as much as I think I should and just back off, take it easy and read - yep, that is it read with music in the background - It's easy to order salad makings and this winter I may even order some of the prepared ready to cook meals that our H.E.B. offers - hmm I think I may even do a week long something or other - like a week of walking even with my walker or a home spa week or a week of packing up books I won't ever read again and I've lost interest in the subject matter or even a week of several hours a day learning a new piano piece. Yep, that is it - Seven weeks of a week long weekly focus plus reading and yes, I will find those Gregorian Chant CDs to play, oh oh and yes, pull out my Dulcimer and play some old mountain music.

Ok pulling this together after having only asked for suggestions in the other chat space from those who are alone for Christmas - I've been struggling since I can no longer fly to my daughter's in NC - her boys flying in from Philly and Seattle and my son drives up to Lubbock to be with their boys and Cooper, one of the twins, drives down from Denver - feel a sense of satisfaction to see Son and Daughter make the effort to be with their Children which is what I did as they moved away but now I can't manage the trips and so I need a new way to make the day special that I'm struggling so as not to just ignore the holiday as a time to get through.

I love Gregorian chants. They are so soothing. And the Dulcimer, my fourth grade teacher played one. I remember she brought it into school one day to show us

I got rid of a lot of my Christmas things, but kept the ones I thought would go well in a small space, and I would be able to keep out of the reach of the cats. So, the table that my all-in=one computer (which I have barely used yet) will be temporarily occupied by my table top tree will be decorated with the mini ornaments, the Christmas mugs will occupy my mug tree, and other Christmas themed shelf things will find niches out of harms way.

Sue has organized the annual Christmas get-together with her friends, and somehow I get to participate now. There will be six of us. This year the dinner will be an afternoon affair rather than evening at a restaurant I've been wanting to try. She is no longer keen on driving at night, neither am I, and the others have not objected.

We escaped the snow that upper PA, Maryland and West Virginia got. It doesn't look like it even froze last night. Wonder how that happened.

Hello Everyfriend!  My daughter left about 1 half hour ago and I missed her before she was out of the driveway.  I love it when she comes to visit and this was a longer visit than usual!  We  talked a blue streak while she was here and we remembered a lot of stuff that happened while she was growing up!  I'll be very happy to see her return...whenever that happens!

Now I have stuff to get done that I let go while she was here.  I have the first load of laundry in the washer already.  wish me luck in my catchup.

We were supposed to get snow and freezing rain too but when it came, it only stayed about a half hour and then just turned to rain an then tapered off!  I guess we were among the lucky Pennsylvanians!  I'll try to check back in before I hit the haystack tonight but just in case I don't, have a good day tomorrow!

Glad y'all from Pa. missed the brunt of the winter storm... Still a bit cold for us but the forecast is a warm-up next week...

MarsGal the thought of a small decorated Tree has me thinking - I love natural although I've saved several boxes of really old tree decorations - they are no longer made as the were back before WWII when I was young - I gave some to my daughter when she visited last this fall - anyhow all to say I think I will get a small evergreen that I can plant in the backyard - Only keep it in the house a couple of days which is fine with me and except for a star on top just seeing the green conical shape is what would please me more than a tree with lighting and colorful decorations... What would really be great is if someone in the area sells a bundle of spruce bows - with all our live pine trees they are Loblolly pines with little to no scent as compared to Spruce that grows further north.

Our tradition was not to decorate till the night before Christmas - growing up the front room that was called a sun porch with windows all round and no heat or AC vent was closed off and at night after we were asleep Mom and Dad set the room up for Christmas - a few times I remember waking and hearing a sewing machine that I was informed were the little men - every year Mom made new clothes for our dolls and a new Christmas dress - We did not have a room we could close off and so we did everything Christmas eve getting to bed if we were lucky an hour before my children woke bouncing in - They used to hang their stocking at the foot of their bed and so I started putting a tangerine and a special Christmas cookie in the Stockings to hold them off just a bit before they came charging in because they knew not to go into the living room till their Dad went first to light the Tree and check that all was OK...  ;)

Again, all to say Advent has been an important part of my Christmas and so any decoration won't be going up til the weekend before Christmas -

During Advent the 4th is the feast of St. Barbara where a platter with a cloth and some soil full of grass seed was planted that hopefully is grown enough to be green and then the big one on the 6th is the Feast of St. Nickolas that the night before letters were written and left on the fireplace to find in the morning a small gift like a new toothbrush or a few new pencils or a jar of handcream or a new screwdriver and the biggie the box of Christmas books with a new one always on top - each year a new book added to the pile, that was put back up after the New Year, made quite a pile that I distributed to the kids after they married however, I started my own pile a few years ago so I'm back to quite a large box of Christmas books.

The 8th is the feast of the Immaculate Conception that was a church attending day for us and then somewhere along the way we usually honored Hanukkah with a meal featuring traditional Jewish food that a couple of good friends joined us and finally, we celebrated St. Lucia on the 14th only we did not have the Swedish tradition of the eldest daughter wearing a crown of lite candles dressed in white however, for us it meant all the candle-holders with new candles we used to celebrate through Christmas were brought out - Wreathes on the front door and in the windows happened the weekend before Christmas and so Advent was full and gradually it lead up to the climax Christmas Day when we were young however, as teens, we joined my mother and as teens my children joined me as we attended Midnight Mass and ALWAYS on our return we had bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches on rye bread with a glass of cider and off to bed till Christmas morning - The trick in our after midnight Mass supper was to not wake the younger ones. As a child I was the oldest and my youngest sister is 15 years younger, along with a brother who was 13 years younger so that my sister just 2 1/2 years younger and I had to be as silent as possible on our return from Mass.

Lots of memories - I bet we all have them - they do makeup the fabric of our lives don't they - all that is just memory and now I may not be creating traditions but certain aspects of the past stay with me and keeping Advent is one so... Decorating the house will be gradual with a tree only put up a day or so before - if it is a live tree I doubt it can stay up in the house till the 6th of January which was the end of the Holidays for us - we or rather I should say I packed up everything on the 7th. I was lucky if I could get my husband to take the emptied tree to the curb or tree collection location. In Austin they collected all trees to be chipped into a mulch used on the lawns in the City Parks.

Jane yes, when our daughters leave after a visit it seems so quiet for a few days doesn't it - I'm usually off kilter for a day or two - and yes, eating becomes more than filling our tummy but a nice meal with food cooked that is outside the norm. How far away does your daughter live? If she is driving does she have to spend the night on the road before she reaches her home or can she drive the distance in one day?

Oh yes, P.S. MarsGal - I will only be alone for Christmas - Thanksgiving I have always been with Paul and Sally, my son, who lives only a few streets away - I drove the 9 hours when they were living in El Paso and flew to Beaverton, outside of Portland, then drove the 7 hours all those years they lived in Lubbock - after the boys graduated high school they moved back to Lubbock,(Texas Tech) Paul and Sally drove over to be with me while I was living in Austin.

Just stepped outside to water my porch plants and it is lovely out - warming is upon us - tra la...

Hello my friends!  I'm finished for the day.  The last load of laundry is in the dryer and as soon as it stops, I'll be heading for the haystack!

BARB, the daughter that was here this week just lives in Maryland.  It's about a two and a half hour drive from here and she does come pretty regularly.  I love it when she's here!  However, I have a son and a daughter who live here in town.  The daughter has been in Houston, TX welcoming her new grandson into the world.  And I also have a daughter who lives in Jenks, OK. Until the new little boy joined our family my only 3 great grands lived in OK and that's where they are now.  I get down to visit them about once a year if I'm lucky!  It sounds like you live in Texas!

Now I heard the dryer stop so I'll go fold the towels and then head for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to stop by and share it with us.  We miss you when you're not around!

Good Afternoon,

Re: being alone on holdays:

Both my family and extended family live more or less locally but I haven't been with either one in several years for Thanksgiving. My choice!

When I "got my act together" after my husband died when I was 57, my church was having a Community Dinner and, since one son was married and the other one had moved out of state, I began working that. It was a lot of fun and I was surprised by the number of people I knew who didn't have families and attended.
Then other churches began to get involved and, eventually, the dinner was moved to the ballroom of the local college - which was too big for me.
Son also moved back and we usually went to other family's gathering in a town about 30 miles from here - until that son got married to a girl from the same town.  I continued to drive the 30 miles and tried to split time between families until that became too confusing and I decided to decline both. So I choose to spend the day "leisurely".  ;D
This year, #2son/wife flew to Cancun for Thanksgiving and other son/wife, who are the parents of 3 Grands, two of who are married or engaged, will be dealing with their own split families.

One of the extended family celebrates on Christmas Even and the other one does Christmas morning.  So I always had Christmas "supper" (didn't have to fix a big dinner   ;D)  Since one son/family are now having to share with in-laws, we'll see how it develops.

Hope Everyfriend is having a nice day.

Callie, I found Hawaiian buns finally! They are like hens teeth to find but one store got them in  and now I can make your sliders with them instead of the plain buns.

No news here, still an unusual winter, snow then rain and then more snow.

Meet and greets going well, Farrah has an upcoming annual vet appointment early next month and I need to water my plants. I need to do a quick wipe down of the bathroom and kitchen as well. It seems never ending sometimes.

Amy has been very helpful in one of my latest dilemmas. A woman I watch for packages for had gifted, or more like unloaded, three bags of apples. Unfortunately, the donations' room is closed for repairs and I don't generally carry many baking supplies. Presently I have 16 left out of 48 and have told her again, that I cannot accept food, while appreciating the gesture.

Thanksgiving is coming up this week, and no plans, as no one is getting together this year with all the nasty weather. There will be the annual potluck dinner here, but I think staying home is more appealing.

Patricia 19 for what it is worth and if you haven't already why not cook them down with some honey and cinnamon and put the sauce in a couple of jars or plastic sacks so you could freeze them and pull out some sauce to accompany a meal later this winter - you've too many to do all of them but I like to bake them in the micro wave with some butter and either brown sugar or honey for breakfast.

Will be two years December 1 since I moved into this house and finally yesterday my bedroom is really a bedroom with only the bedroom furniture - not placed yet where I want it but,  finally went to bed last night not feeling I was sleeping in the back storage room piled with boxes, lamps that cannot find the shades, several pieces of art that the movers broke the glass, a couple of chairs and small tables I had not yet decided where I wanted them, an old TV stand that I hate tossing but the sellers left their gigantic wall TV and have not yet decided where to put my TV - hate TVs in a bedroom. Anyhow where there are now all sorts of things to find homes for and more books to shelve I can see the light at the end of the tunnel- What a change even in my disposition -  Feel genuinely happy rather than gritching in my brain studio that I was not accomplishing enough or working hard enough plus, finding one thing after the other either missing or broken had me by the heals till I finally had to realize it is what it is...

Moving late in life is far more time consuming than I ever imagined - when I started I could sling boxes of heavy books around with the best of them and within these two years age caught up and now I can no longer even pickup a box of books... a lot to readjust however, where I was living all my friends had passed and Austin was no longer anything I could even recognize with all its change - so I was leaving a place I no longer recognized moving to another place I have to come to terms with that is also changing before our very eyes. Best thing my son and daughter-in-law only live 5 streets away which is a big plus in many ways including the ease of no longer having a bit over a 2 and a 1/2 hour drive one way to visit.

Well onward - looking forward to an early supper - had a grocery delivery from Whole Foods that included a container of their Butternut Squash soup - theirs is second best - the best I ever tasted was from a small restaurant in Georgetown north of Austin run by the handicapped.

Raining at the moment but it just may get some muscle and turn into snow. There has been snow out west and to the north of us so we do know it is coming.

Better get at it or the day will just slip away..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, we had snow and icy rain most of yesterday so the snow graders and dump trucks were on all night in what is becoming the norm. Temperatures are supposed to plummet this week and rise again on the weekend, so not much different.

I didn't get anything caught up yesterday, wasn't really in the mood to do much. I spent the day online and on the phone. One of our meet and greets ended up falling last night and going to the hospital, but should be home soon. He wears his phone on a loop, so was able to call for help after a short time. He has promised us he'll get a medical alert in case of other issues.

Barb, thank you for the suggestions. Jane, have you received any photos of the new baby?

Hello to everyone, and I'm off to see what has happened overnight.

Here I am, AMY!  I had a very busy day yesterday and I was heading for bed when I realized that I had not been by to greet my friends.  And I was too tired to do anything about it.

About the pictures of the baby, she's sent me a bunch of them but so far, I haven't figured out how to get them to this place to share them.  She's home now so maybe she'll help me do that.  He is adorable!  I want to hug him but I have a feeling that's not going to happen.  Darn!

PATRICIA, please keep the snow and ice in Alaska where it belongs.  I'm not in favor of winter any more!

Now I have to get busy or I'll lose this day, too.  I wish you all a pleasant day.  Do as you please!

Good morning, minus 19 here and minus 33 expected overnight before warming on Friday. Jane, we normally don't have that much snow, with very little humidity, and we've never had freezing rain before this year. So, no promises.

One interesting article, about affecting climate change, is that we're pumping so much groundwater that it's affecting the earth's rotation.

I see Bubble is offering to post any pictures for you if you have them online or in email.

Amy, yes, he's already back home again, and his doctor is arranging a Medic Alert for him. It seems we're none of us that steady anymore, and one of the reasons we keep our meet and greets going. Thanks for asking.

Chilly and overcast here - realize I have a nice lamp I really have no place for and hate just giving it to Goodwill - it is big and difficult to store - I wonder if one of the grandboys in Lubbock would like to have it and if so problem solved Paul and Sally can bring it up with them when they drive up for Christmas -

Looked at the Calendar and Dec 1 is this Sunday - Christmas season is upon us. Well need to get back at it - determined to get this room organized before tomorrow and still have not tackled the closet...

Hope he does so before original movie of "Mary Poppins" (with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke) begins tonight. It's the 60th anniversary of the movie and I've forgotten the details - although I read several of the MP books and remember her as being very stern - not like the musical.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving! The sun is shining, but the temp is only 35o. It looks like the temps are only going to be barely above 40o for quite a few days now, with temps into the 20s at night on a few days. It also looks like, for now, we are staying below the snow line.

We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner at a local restaurant, nothing special, just the basics. What mostly struck me at the diner is the number of people who were in wheel chairs or using walkers. I have never seen so many in one place. Also, there was a large family gathering in the back room. At least four of the boys/men were wearing red/black buffalo plaid including the tiniest of the group. That little fella is an explorer for sure. He kept crawling out the door of the room into the main area. So cheerful, so tiny. Absolutely delightful.

Good morning everyone, I spent yesterday rearranging and tidying my living room. I'm hoping to finish that today, as well as a few incidental household duties I've put off. Minus 26 presently, but we're warmer than the overnight low of minus 30 and heading back into the pluses by next week.

I decided to wait on my turkey and only snacked throughout my day as I was busy with the living room. I needed to move shelves out of the way, so maintenance would be able to get to the nonworking GFI plugins, and, of course, ended up doing more.

Meet and greets went well, everyone stayed home and unsurprisingly, no one cooked a fancy meal. We may get together later next month for a pre-Christmas gathering, if the weather and roads are better, less icy.

Amy, we had a 2020 mid-October snow that deep and ended up having Anchorage snowplows work their way north through some lower mountain passes to dig the Interior out. It must have been quite a sight, that 400 hundred-mile journey north!

Now, we have giant snowplows with accompanying snow dump trucks that look like huge metal outrigger canoes following those plows. Since we aren't getting and staying as cold as years past, we've had more snow due to more humidity and this year's freezing rain has been another concern. Our world is changing faster than anticipated.

Amy that October snow was a record, when normally the arctic winter's dry cold weather inhibits more than two to four inches of snow, now we're getting the same amount as usual but the new to us freezing rain melts it down to rutted ice. We're not used to winter humidity.

Oh lordy our pittance in the 50s can't hold a candle to the winter weather y'all are talking about however, it offers us a challenge in that hardly anyone has winter coats and the young men were here to cut my lawn today wearing 3 hoodies over each other to stay warm. They hustled and had it all done to the last leaf blown in a tad over a half hour

Took down all my hanging plants and sat them close to each other on the porch as if helping each other stay warm - I think they will be OK - it is going down to 39 tonight but that is not freezing and then a bit warmer tomorrow.

Sally packed leftovers for me from yesterday's meal and so today I warmed it up and enjoyed again a full meal including a piece of her pumpkin pie.

Spent hours on Amazon finding appropriate gifts - the delivery on some things is spotty but more, a few items would come directly from China and they give a delivery window into January - I ordered one thing last year from China and never again... the delivery was weeks beyond what they said it would be and then not all the parts were included - ended up sending it back and since I purposely look for things made in the USA. However, I notice some of these Chinese manufacturers now have addresses in California - I've order things and where the delivery is within the usual window of an Amazon delivery time-table again, often there are missing screws or other bits are missing. I understand Walmart delivers now - I need to look into their website and see if they would be a reasonable substitute. Not driving is a pain however, even if I could manage I would be a danger to others on the road and would not be able to live with myself if I ended up causing a traffic mishap all because of a shopping trip.

Tip - on these cold nights a hot drink is nice but coffee is a no no if I want to do any sleeping and so usually it is a cup of tea - well I found the most unusual tea and it tastes grand while adding to my immune system - love that concept - ordered it on Amazon - Traditional Medicinals Tea, Organic Echinacea Plus Elderberry, Boosts the Immune System, 16 Tea Bags price $4.49 - if you are in the mood to try something new it is worth a try.

Good snowy morning...

Seems we were gifted with more snow last night. Now the question is ,is it a dance with Mr SB or a waltz with the shovel again??? I don't think we got it as bad as other areas but it does need to be dealt with.

June Drabek would have celebrated her 100th birhday today. Happy birthday June.

After the snow removal it is household chores if energy is still with me!

Barb, I enjoy different teas and will look for that one. Just finished up pumpkin spice and many others to chose from.

Better get my dancing duds on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Barb,
Be careful ordering from Walmart. I ordered an item from them but received a cheaper package and they charged the higher price. They are hard to contact in regard to mistakes. They put the "error" off on their Vendor. The Vendor (not possible to talk to directly) stated they sent what was ordered. No resolution was made. I will no longer order from Walmart.
