Good morning, 17 degrees and we're told to expect three to six inches of snow today, overnight and tomorrow. However, expectations don't always equal reality.

Nothing new here. I'm walking less like Chester and more like a shuffle. I don't have plans to go anywhere, no Amazon parcels coming or going, and meet and greets are more of a check in than a planned excursion or two.

MarsGal

It is a wet morning and about 44oF. Today, my car goes in for inspection. I will be looking at new cars while that is happening. Still not sure if I want to buy or rent.

Yesterday's trip to the ENT was successful. She did a major ear wax cleaning in one ear which resulted in the disappearance of the migrating tooth pain I was getting. In its place I found what looks like a piece of tooth broken off and sore gums. ??? Another trip to the dentist on Monday.

Have a Super Saturday Everyone!

Amy

Good morning

Starting off at 21° no rain today! Grocery shopping then home to do laundry, would be nice if some could go on the solar dryer.

Jane, we still have snow in some areas here. Thankfully no ice to content with when walking.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I don't know how to feel....our weather here is strange.  It's supposed to be in the 70's today!  I don't know how many layers to put on?  take off?  Not really complaining.....just confused.   Is it summer or winter?

Whatever kind of day you are having...make it  a good one.

Good noon time,
The fog is just lifting. I've finally battled the indoor humidity down to 49% in the RV. Still spinning. Still recovering. Expecting several pkgs of fabric for various projects.

MG, so sorry to hear about your tooth! Glad the wax removal helped!

Good snowy morning..

Looks like everything has been dusted with icing sugar outside!
A day of welcomed rest sort of if I don't have to deal with the snow.

Phyllis, I will take your 70° we are at 29° at the moment. Have you tried baked beans in the IP? No soaking just throw everything in and 1 1/2 hours later baked beans!!

Patricia, did you sent the snow this way??? Have to admit though it is so pretty on the trees. Our lakes are just starting to freeze over and a friend saw a man walking on the ice on one!! Doubt there is a 1/2 inch of ice!

Better skedaddle.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

[/b]Good Morning Everyfriend! Right now, it's 33 degrees in Central PA!  It was in the freezing zone overnight!  Cooper and I took a walk and he was in a bit of a hurry.  It was still cold out there.  Now I have to go get myself ready for church.  I wish you all a great day.  Make it your own in every way!  And pop in here and tell us how you did that!

Good morning, 12 degrees presently and while still as foggy as it's been all week, I doubt if we got more than an inch of that white stuff. Tonight we'll dip back into the minuses, where we're remaining for a spell.

Amy, it's possible you'll see some of it as it's passing into the Yukon Territory now. Weather Report says, The overall band of snowfall will slowly shift east and southeast tonight through early Sunday. While a few additional light snow showers will be possible prior to noon Sunday, any additional snow accumulations on Sunday will be negligible.

Colder and drier conditions will begin to filter on Sunday, with below normal conditions expected for much of next week.

Phyllis, if we shot to plus 70, that would be the news of the century in the Arctic! We'd be much more likely to hit minus seventy, or colder, as we've done in years past. The older I get, the more the cold gets to me.

I'm feeling much better, knee wise. Morning routine, meet and greets, and breakfast and brewing coffee finished and next week I have three Amazon orders. I'm finding it much easier to have the necessities brought to my door than going out for them. Since I had that major fall in February and this last one last month, I've become more wary on getting out on my own in the winter. Out of the group, only one of us is still driving.

They're having a Thanksgiving dinner here in the main cafeteria, but I'll be having mine the day before with friends, and the library comes on their monthly visit early on the 26th.

Amy

Good morning..

Starting off at 31° with just a cloudy day ahead. No snow so they say. Played in snow yesterday cleaning the driveway and walk ways. One of these days I will have to dance with Mr SB.but so far shovel will do.

Working around home today. Better put more feed out for the smaller birds or they will come knocking on the window!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The temp here right now is 34 degrees and heading for a high of 50 this afternoon!  Sounds like a nice day for the season.  I'm waiting for the arrival of a truck and at least two guys from my son's store later this morning.  My washer died after a lot of years!  And he was here yesterday and decided it can't be repaired.  I hope he decides that's my Christmas present from him and his family.  It's not something I can afford right now!  If it's not one thing, it's another!

Today will be a busy day!  I'm getting ready for Christmas guests all the way from Mexico.  My oldest Grandson and his wife and their son will be here a few days before Christmas and stay for the holiday.  I'm looking forward to this because I've only met his wife and her son once on their way through here!

I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to let us know how you did that.  We need to know everything!

Good morning!
Jane your expected company sounds wonderful! :smitten: The washer dying, not so much. :buck2:

It startd raining yesterday evening and poured all night. Currently 43°F. Ron got his slab (auto shop) pour ready to be able to pour yesterday. Its alleged to not be rainy today. Then rain most of the week.  Don't know if thats going to get done this week. He'll call the cement plant to schedule today.

I was pleased to be able to get several more loads of heavy laundry done yesterday. Wiped me out. Did mending and more spinning. Spoke with my daughter, my 3 grandkids and my SIL yesterday. My granddaughter (8 ) has started piano, my middle grandson (10) violin, and the eldest (12) plays tuba and trombone. My eldest also regaled me with the progress of his "pets." He has fish, frogs and a "Flame Knee'd Tarantula." Its the size of a quarter at present and hasn't gone through enough molts to achieve the red-orange knee patches yet. My daughter's "Green-Blue Bottle Tarantulas" have molted enough they are now yellow orange... apparently they progress though several colors. What can I say, "Thats nice dear."😝 At least his frogs aren't the poison kind. My daughter's are. She is a PhD Entomolist.... i.e. Bug Dr.🤓 And teaches high school science. The students love her and her menagerie. Apparently when she first got the tarantulas they had more than a dozen. They don't ship well. So they had 12 little tarantulas in small plastic boxes on the dining room table for several weeks until the numbers sorted themselves out. My SIL was not happy. I sided with him. 😬

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, minus six with an expected high of minus three. We didn't get that much snow, perhaps an inch, and "they're" saying we'll be back in the pluses by Tuesday.

It simply isn't getting that cold, nor humid for snowfall as usual, and hopefully that means no real cold dips into minus twenties or minus thirties. Of course, February will be a deal-breaker either way. From my window, everything looks like a crystalline fog anyway. And I keep everything closed and drawn as the air still seeps around the panes.

Meet and greets, morning chores and all that is done for the day with a large Amazon order due today and the rest tomorrow. One of the expected items is a 38 pound box of kitty litter. It lasts me three months, and several people use it on snowy walkways and driveways to add traction.

Here's to everyone staying happy, safe and sane, this holiday week. I'll be going out on Wednesday for my friendsgiving as they say now, otherwise my days will be strictly inside.

Amy

Busy day here!! Got a lot done and purging of unwanted items to go to SA..

Rick, I have mixed bird seed, cracked corn doves like that one and black sunflower seeds. My hairdresser had  all kinds of birds at her feeders plus she had a heated water dish for them!

Jane,I saw a wringer washer for sale and was so tempted.but know the age  that maybe no parts could be had if it broke. I have a new washer and the dryer is  28 yrs old. I keep my fingers X that it holds out.

I think Amy and Patricia may be particularly interested in this clip. I had no idea there was a tick such as this one currently devastating Maine's moose population.

If I heard the guy right, he said that temps in Maine have been gradually rising since 1889

Good morning.

Off and running this morning with multiple stops to make. Have quilt tops to take in, shirts to exchange (I hope) ,drop "stuff" off at Bri's, drop my computer off to get W11 and I bet I will flop when we get home!

Temp is 34° and calling for rain/snow later in the afternoon....hope we are home before that.

MG, as Rick said interesting but also sad. We do have ticks here and some are also bad for humans causing Lyme disease. Safety precautions like tucking pant legs in socks and checking your dog after a walk in the woods.

Better get the day started..

Yipee! It only took three trips in a month to the dentist and one to the ENT for the dentist to finally discover the molar right next to my tooth implant had cracked, and that was only because a   piece broke off on Thursday. Because the dentist doesn't have office hours on Friday, I had to wait until Monday to get it looked at. Now it will be off to the dental surgeon for extraction and probably another tooth implant. So, not buying a new car on Saturday like I had hoped, turns out to be a good thing. A new car will have to wait.

OUCH - Many years ago I had a tooth crack. Must have gone right down the middle because the pain was terrible if anything touched it, like even a well cooked pea,  I still remember the pain, and the problem with treating it. Long story.
Hope it doesn't hurt too much.

Oddly enough, Rick, the tooth is not painful, but I did start getting gum blisters and pain. The migrating tooth pain I was getting for months went away when I got the ear cleaned of the all the accumulated wax. I can't get an appointment with the Dr. that did my implant before until the middle of January. That is too long for me to trust the temporary glue job my dentist did, so I have made an appointment in the second week of Dec. with another Dr. in the group.

patricia19

Good morning, 2 plus degrees presently before we slip back into the minuses. MG, as Rick and Amy said, that was both violent and unsettling. These are the same whales that are attacking and sometimes sinking smaller ships and watercraft by going after rudders.

We don't have ticks here because of the arctic winters, although information otherwise is contradictory. One source says the state has six native types that feed on small animals and birds during the summer months, but another says Alaska has no native tick species. Here is the most recent, comprehensive info I found.

" Ticks exist in every state in the US, though they are less common and diverse in the northern states and cooler climates.
Data focus upon ticks that can transmit diseases to humans. Tick species that do not transmit diseases to humans are excluded.
Alaska is the only US state with zero native tick species that can carry disease to humans (though it does have at least one native species, Ixodes angustus, which is common on hares and squirrels). However, several species can survive and even overwinter there if introduced on animals (typically dogs) from out of state."

It's our colder winter temperatures of minus thirty, forty, sixty or seventy that deter most pests such as ticks, fleas, and even rabies in the arctic parts of the state, including snakes and some plants such as ragweed, and poisonous ivies.

Amy, I never heard back from you about the quilt pictures you showed.

I've also never had a tooth crack, sounds painful, but my teeth have always been what one dentist termed soft, so I've had a lot of issues.

OnLonelyMountain

Good morning,

OLM, sounds good. Just about the only crafting stuff I brought with me when I moved was all my knitting/crochet/crewelwork yarns, as well as embroidery and accessories. Unfortunately, I have yet to do anything with it. I was in the middle of making a pocketed shawl, so if I ever get back to it that will be the first thing to do.

Patricia, what is this about whales? It sounds like what an Orca would do. They seem to be the aggressive thugs of the whaleverse. However, I always thought of them as member of the dolphin family. But then, they've started adding something called a clad which I don't know much about. Cladistic ordering apparently began around 1901, but wasn't called such until the 1950's or 1960's. It wasn't taught in any of my college biology classes. Anyway, I don't recall mentioning anything about whales.

patricia19

Orcas are a species of whales. Here is a page of links on the subject, plus it shows that they're being taught by others, (orcas).

Good morning

We had a nice rain in the night. Starting temp is 38° with more rain or snow in the forecast.Yesterday went well, dropped off the quilt tops ,dropped off items for the kids then dropped off my computer. Working on my laptop now and not familiar with it as I prefer my pc. Will go on Mon/Tue to pick it up.

Catch up day here plus pay bills.

Patricia, they are all cetaceans. Orcas are, according to this article, more closely related to dolphins. But then it also says all dolphins are whales. It looks like they got named whales because they are toothed and because early mariners called them "killer of whales". https://wildlifeinformer.com/is-an-orca-a-whale-or-a-dolphin/ I am a little surprised that all dolphins are considered whales, regardless.

At any rate, the clip I posted was about moose in Maine, not whales. Someone else must have originally mentioned whales in one of the forums. It wasn't me.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  There's a NEW Washer where my old dead one was once located!  My son and a young guy who works for him installed it yesterday!  When they were ready to leave, I mentioned a bill and my son reached out and hugged me and said "Merry Christmas, Mom!"  What a nice thing to get for Christmas!  Now I have to teach myself to use it.  I tried last night after they left and I bombed!  The directions that came with it are awful.  I mentioned this to my son's wife and she said that as soon as she can get away from the store, she'll be by and give me some lessons and write it out on paper for me!  I do have a nice family...even the marrien in ones!

Now I'm going out and make a batch of egg thingys and put them in the freezer for when my house is full of company over Christmas!  Anyone want to help?  I know, everyone is too busy so I'll just do my own thing.

I wish you all a great day today and a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.  AMY, you can pretend you're with us!

Good morning, I hope everyone has a nice Thanks or Friends Giving tomorrow. I'm having mine this afternoon and have made both mincemeat and an apple pie to take. The Library stops by just before that so I can drop off my books prior to leaving.

MG, I mentioned orcas because of your video and also because of the boat ramming. I said yesterday, with regard to the video, These are the same whales that are attacking and sometimes sinking smaller ships and watercraft by going after rudders.

"Species in the oceanic dolphin family
The orca, or killer whale, is a toothed whale and the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family. The only extant species in the genus Orcinus, it is recognizable by its distinct pigmentation; being mostly black on top, white on the bottom and having recognizable white eye patches. A cosmopolitan species, it inhabits a wide range of marine environments, from Arctic to Antarctic regions to tropical seas, but is more commonly documented in temperate or cooler coastal waters."

From your information, "So first let's get a couple things straight. Both whales and dolphins are known as cetaceans, which is divided into two groups; baleen whales and toothed whales. All dolphins are considered whales, but not all whales are considered dolphins.

Orcas, or killer whales, are considered "toothed whales" along with about 75 other species. However, as we mentioned above, they are more closely related to oceanic dolphins than whales."

It sounds as if no one really knows for sure what an orca is or what species it belongs to.
