I was going to say "Good Morning" but I just noticed that it's 12:01 so I'll say....GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYFRIEND!

PHYLLIS, I like the looks of your kitchen counter.  I even like the hanging apron!  Looks like you're going to eat well for the next week or so!

TOMEREADER, I had two huge trees taken down in my front yard several years back and boy do I ever miss them when the sun is glaring in the front windows in mid afternoon!  I also don't have anywhere to hang my swing.  I'm thinking next year I'll get a stand for the swing so I can go out there and sleep in it like I used to.  I sort of forgot I had it until I cleaned out the closet.

Laundry is taking care of itself right now but I'm sure it will holler when it needs my attention.  It's kind of lonely without Cooper!  I miss him on Frankie's days off!

Better get back to work!  Keep on keeping on!

Been to  the city and back and out of city duds into my jeans.  Kyles check up went well and we did do a bit of shopping. (me)  We each got a good hug from our friend at one shop(fabric) and not knowing ahead of time I got fabric for 1/2 off..that was a surprise and a BONUS!!!

Phyllis, I love your kitchen!!! Would make anyone feel right at home. That is quite a haul from Papa Spuds!! I have to ask what is zucchini caprese please?

Good morning; it's 22 degrees here, cold enough for yesterday's snow sprinkle to be here still. I showered, made coffee, took out the trash, and finished my morning chores. I miss not doing my morning meet and greets, hearing from everyone, and still wanting to pick up the phone and call.

Alan's not doing well; the family is coming up from Anchorage, and that means Dora isn't doing well as they've passed forty years of marriage, and neither has been well since leaving their land and ending up in hospice. Our small group of fellow travelers is getting smaller.

Yesterday's grocery and bill-paying trip went well. There were no issues with anyone; even the waiting on hold for a taxi went fast, as did its arrival. If only that were the standard and not a surprise.

We have all the home grocery delivery services, including taxis, that will pick up your order and deliver for twelve dollars plus regular ride charges and tips. They do a brisk cigarette business for smokers during winter.

The only thing taxis won't pick up is liqueur. Both senior centers also offer rides
for pick up and delivery for five dollars each way. You have to call the day before for home pick-up, and they only do this for groceries or regular standing appointments. However, I would be further isolated if I didn't need to leave home for these, and with my allergies, I need to hand-pick my groceries.

Yesterday, they sent a notice that the building would no longer have carts by the doors for tenants to use for groceries or whatnot. After years of tenants stealing them to hold up microwaves or televisions or leaving them in hallways, elevators, or laundries, they sprayed the building name on new carts, which did nothing to stop the thefts.

The building has a closed camera system in all public areas, which you can subscribe to if you have a television, which I don't. This is why they must know the culprits, but I understand legalities forced their hands.

So now, if you tend to be moving in or out or have large grocery hauls, you must have your own and take it with you. That means hauling my foldup cart to and from here to a store or appointment and back, which isn't ideal, especially in winter or on the bus.

That means calling a senior service in advance and having a set pick-up and delivery time. No more spontaneous mall wanders unless you're scoping out items for a return trip.

Phyliss, are those copper pots? I always wanted some, but I ended up with stainless steel and cast iron.

Amy, my zucchini caprese is grilled tomatoes, zucchini, and mozzarella balls. I haven't made it for a long time. I googled and found these others.

A good October greeting to ALL🍁

We had a wonderful time in Boston with our family. I was able to swim in their beautiful pool for the first part of our time there.  Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate😩😘

Our son has recently built a stone fireplace in their yard....referred to locally as a "chimney"‼️  We got to be there for the inaugural fire‼️ We managed to have a couple more fires that included a rainy mist😘

We were there mostly to enjoy our time together but did manage to go to two different museums. Isabella Stewart Gardner and Massachusetts Fine Arts Boston.  Both were very enjoyable.  We watched a four part documentary on the "heist" of the never recovered art before we went to the Gardner one and we were so happy we did as it was good to know details of the stollen art before we went.

I had another pain injection last Monday in my S I joint and it really helped a lot.  I am so pleased to gave relief from my lowe back pain.  For differs injections and I can finally say YEA....THEY WORKED‼️

I hope this finds EVERY FRIEND doing well and enjoying a nice fall🍁🍁

Patricia, yes, all copper pots.  I started collecting copper pots years ago....antique and not antique.  I used them to cook in and just to look at as a decoration.  And, then one Christmas my husband surprised me with a whole set of all-copper Revere pots (not just copper bottoms).  I still use them from time to time even though they don't work as well on a glass topped stove. I bought All-clad for daily cooking. When I get in a downsizing mood I look at those pots and then I think I can't let go of them.....at least, not yet.  ::)

Thanks for looking up a recipe for Caprese.  That is pretty close to what I cook except I don't use a recipe and just throw everything into a big skillet and serve it as a side dish instead of a salad.  I was going to do that tonight but David offered to go get tacos.    I didn't argue with him.  <grin>

Phyllis, I'm that way with cast iron, which works on the stove, on a grill, or in the oven. Or, in my case, my convection bake/toaster oven. I have a Lodge six-quart Dutch oven and a Lodge 3-quart casserole, both with red enameled coating on the outside with cream interiors.

I often think about donating them to some children of my friends as they're heavy and awkward for me to move, and I no longer meal prep, but I always talk myself out of it.

I used to have a Hamilton Beach indoor grill I gave away, so I haven't made that recipe in a while. It's close to the one mentioned. I have a cast iron grill pan and was recently gifted with a friend's overflow. I only need the mozzarella, and I could make it again. I also used to like slicing mozzarella in a salad.

I've been purchasing those smaller bagged salad kits perfect for a meal. But I recently read an article about commercially prepared cut-up fruits and vegetables being bad for you due to various health issues and careless practices, so I'm rethinking that.

Good morning...

Another busy day  playing catch up on what needs to be done.

Jenny ,good to see you and hear that the injections are helping you.

Patricia, it is no different in life, the innocent pay for the deeds of the ones that misuse it. They don't realise that those carts cost ,same with our grocery carts/buggy here .25 to use but you do get your money back. Some leave the grocery cart them in the parking lot others take them home then leave them  on the sidewalk. Thank you for the recipe, interesting.

Rick, going to the city tires me out..I think I would rather stay home and do a days work.

Better get going and start the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was so tired last night that I didn't even stop at the computer on my way to bed!  You don't think I might be getting too old for all these activities, do you?

JENNY, so nice to hear from you and especially to hear you say that the treatments are helping you live a better life!  Sounds like you had a great visit with your family in New England!

AMY, I understand about your feelings on getting home from the city.  It's getting so I'd much rather have someone else do my shopping!  However, sometimes I just have to do it myself because they don't understand exactly what it is I need!

RICK, thanks for taking care of the place last night!  I just wasn't up to it!

I have to go put my bed sheets in the washer and then remake the bed.  I'm going to read today's paper and do the crossword puzzle and the word jumble in between washing and drying.  I'm a crossworrd addict.  I think I got it from my Gramma.  She was never finished with the paper until the crossword was done!

Cooper is here, had his breakfast, his walk and a couple of visits on the way.  Also, friend Nancy gave me a bag of yellow tomatoes.  She got a yellow tomato plant by accident and she doesn't like them so ever since she found out that I do, I get some every time she picks them.  That's fine with me.  Cooper also gets treats at her back door so he's started checking to see if she's out on every walk!

We have a cool, foggy morning today and it's supposed to be partly cloudy and cloudy all day but temps will reach the low 70s.  Good walking weather for Cooper and me!  I can see better without the sun blinding me.  I might be one of the few people in the world who like it when the sun hides behind the clouds!

Make it a good day!  Enjoy it in any way you wish!

"Rick, going to the city tires me out..I think I would rather stay home and do a days work."

During my working years whenever I had to go to the City (NYC) for a meeting or something, it would wipe me out for the rest of the day. My brother however did it every day.

My son graduated from Stonybrook Univ. and made lots of friends from the City so when he moved to Manhattan he already had friends there.  He enjoyed New York and lived there for more than 29 years but he lives here now and says he is glad to be away from the hustle and bustle.  He worked on Varick St. for years and when his company changed owners he worked for a data company down on Water Street, right off of Wall St.

I liked going down for shopping and events at Lincoln Center or the Garden but I never wanted to live there.  Too busy and too many people everywhere!

Amy, the Caprese that I make is roughly this:  sliced zucchini, yellow squash, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and sometimes Italian sausage all sautéed in olive oil in a large skillet and at the last minute, shredded cheese melted over the top.  Also, I'll sometimes shred some carrots and throw those in.  It only takes a few minutes to cook and I'll serve it with a green salad and fresh fruit and whatever kind of bread I have on hand.  One of our favorite go-to dinners.

Take care, All

Phyllis, thank you for the recipe. What is really funny is that I have been making that for years with an abundance of squash from the garden. I just didn't know what it is called. All one needs a slice of bread to mop up the delicious juices from it!

Floors are washed, some laundry done and tomatoes picked.

Need to do a few things while Kyle is in the shop as it is his birthday tomorrow. Then we have Thanksgiving on Mon..a busy time!

Rick, I guess your brother got used to the travel back and forth.  I was glad to hear a lady (much younger) at the bank say she also tires out when heading to the city!

The birds have stripped the Mountain Ash tree of its berries here. Didn't take them long to do it as there was a steady stream of birds going back and forth to it.

Good late morning, almost nine thirty now and 24 and cloudy outside. Those forecasters said more expected snow on Friday and Tuesday, perhaps two to three inches per day.

This morning, they're prophesying, "Special Weather Statement issued October 05 at 12:34AM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks

...Snowfall Expected for the Central Interior and Eastern Alaska Range Thursday night into Friday...

Snow is expected to move over the Interior from the south Thursday night into Friday, including the Friday morning commute.

Looking at widespread 2 to 3 inches of snow over most of the Interior, including Fairbanks through Friday. The Eastern Alaska range, including the Richardson Highway, could see at least 6 inches of snow and a Winter Weather Advisory from noon Friday to noon Saturday is in effect."

Either way, the trees still hang onto their leaves, but autumn has officially left the area.

Jane, I can't see you slowing down. You seem to have a built-in Energizer bunny that many of us lost out on!  :)

Amy, I agree. I noticed yesterday on my way to see a friend on the first floor that several carts were sitting in the hallway, seemingly materializing out of the ether. On my way back, they were gone.

There are so many problems with losing maintenance and security staff after Covid. Maintenance issues are being deferred, and we're learning to live with them reluctantly. The stock answer is there are seven buildings and fewer maintenance and security. No one believes it anymore.

Phyliss, I have a friend who lived in Brooklyn near Stuyvesant Heights. After retirement, she moved close to her son in Connecticut. She wishes she'd moved sooner. She says it's nothing like it was. I think we all say that looking back, no matter our circumstances.

Your recipe sounds so good that I've added the ingredients to my phone's grocery list. I'm one of those who can't strictly follow a recipe without improvising. Some of my favorite meals came from that improvisation.

Amy, a good slice of sourdough bread would be good for that!

patricia19

I have a question about Amazon orders. I've noticed an odd trend. I live in Alaska, but lately, my orders go first to a place further away before making it back. This is the third time I've noticed this.

For example. I ordered one item Tuesday that originated in Phoenix, then was shipped to Kentucky, and went to Portland before being shipped to me.

JaneS

PATRICIA, thanks for the plug but sometimes that Energizer Bunny takes a nap!

Today is a better day.  Cooper arrived as usual and the day went by getting things done.  I think I've done enough that I deserve to take an evening off and watch some TV.  I might throw in a few extra steps on a short walk when the sun dips behind the trees and roofs.  It wasn't supposed to be sunny today but apparently no one told the sun so it got up there and shone!

I liked hearing about the recipes and I might try that one sometime too.  I made some notes!

I've lived in the a small town in the country most of my life.  I did spend a year at school in Harrisburg and the only thing that made that tolerable was that my married sister lived in an apartment about 12 blocks from the school and, since her apartment was so tiny that she didn't have room to put me up, she found me a room to rent right around the corner from her apartment.  I had lots of dinners with her and Jim!  And I even had some meals with the lady and her mother who rented out the room.  Things were sure different in those days!

Gonna go turn on Perry Mason and think about what I want to have for supper a bit later!  Have a good rest of the day!

Reminds me of a saying we had at work, - "Trouble left here OK.
Otherwise - I live just North of NYC. I've ordered from New England and the package travels to New Jersey (going past us), then back North to White Plains (North of us), and then here. Pre programming rather than common sense.

3.Good Night Everyfriend!  I'm heading for the haystack...the nice. clean haystack!  I washed the "hay" and remade the stack so it wouldn't smell of perspiration andy more.  And I must tell you that tomorrow or the next day, the cold weather will be back in this area!  As soon as I added a nice, warm blanket to my haystack, the weather warmed up.  Now I've left the blanket off so I'm pretty sure the cold will be back!

Have a good night and a happy tomorrow!

Good morning..

We had an all night rain and now the ground is sighing with relief. I am sure if it had of been a pounding downpour the rain would have stayed on top of the ground but this gentle rain is slowly soaking in. I get out of watering the morning glories and tomatoes  also. I did pick a basket of tomatoes yesterday with the intent of pulling the plants but there are more tomatoes on the plat so in a bit they will be pulled.

I hadn't noticed the strange logistics going on at Amazon, although I have noticed lately that packages that are supposed to arrive on a specific day are often delayed or not delivered when they say they will be. I've seen a number of my recent Amazon packages, marked "out for delivery", not arriving that day at all. If I look at the location map, I noticed that they were getting really close to my house, but not delivered until the next day.

Speaking of deliveries, my order of pet products from another company did the same thing yesterday. It was out on delivery, but never arrived. This monthly delivery almost always is here before 11am on its' designated day. The only thing I can think of is that the delivery (FedEx) driver couldn't park near my house yesterday morning and didn't want to carry a heavy box any great distance. Don't blame him.

The guys were here yesterday to fix a leak at the top of a kitchen window and put in some missing flashing(?) at the corner of my back porch. However, the last guy out the basement locked my basement door even though I told him I would take care of it. Now the lock is jammed - AGAIN. Well, at least they discovered where the bees are getting into my house. Looks like they are either nesting in the soffit, or in the gutter itself. Oddly, they don't seem to have gotten into the attic. It think they are bees and not wasps only because the legs are shorter and they don't appear to be making a hive like wasps do. Unfortunately, they are at the corner of my roof two stories up. If my pest control guy can't reach the nest to spray, I will have to find someone else who can. The company dose not allow them to climb onto the roof. Apparently their insurance does not cover being on rooves, ladders or what not.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My day started off with a bang!  Jumped out of bed, had my breakfast, met Cooper at the door, gave Frankie a hug and off we went.  Cooper had his breakfast and took me for the first walk of the day!

I came back and did my word games on the computer and then checked in here!  Had a message from Cathy that she's going for groceries later today and do I need to go or can she pick up for me!  I'm thinking on that.  Only a couple little things to do today...some cleaning and some putting away or throwing away!

MARSGAL, don't you hate it when you tell someone who is doing work NOT to do something and they do it anyway!  It drives me crazy!  Hope you got the door open when you needed it.

AMY, I hope KYLE's sister heals quickly!  Not being able to do the normal things can be frustrating.  She's lucky to have you there!

Gotta get going!  Have a great day Everyfriend!

That's often the case here too. We must be at the end of their route. Deliveries are often a 8:00pm or later.  Got a delivery last night that was out for delivery the day before. A much needed item. So a day late really annoyed me.

The door lock is working now. He had no trouble getting in without doing a thing. He thinks the humidity is most likely to blame. I don't. It was stuck yesterday afternoon.
