Jane, no.  There was no evidence, but we did frequently find a live one which had come up through the drain (which I would always drown with hot water) so I believed him.  :D

Jane, I have a friend (my age) and we just had the discussion about "flirting".... we both felt the same way, that it was meant as a compliment when a guy flirted or whistled.  Now the poor guy gets dragged through the courts by a screaming lady ?(really!)  Good for you smiling about it (and congratulations).

I am worn out tonight & nothing to show for my day.  One of my classmates was given 6 months to live about 6 months ago.  Another of our friends went to see him this week & called to tell me I needed to come within the next few days because he was being moved to full care, bedfast, in 15 days.  His mind is clear, we all had an e-mail note from him last week, thanking us for the cards, phone calls & visits since the word got out.  We have called as many of the old "Class of '53" that lives fairly close (275 miles for me) & still mobile, his daughter wants us to gather on Sunday so she can be there.  She lives about 200 miles away.  A sad trip but we will let him know we care. It is comforting to all of us, knowing we will do what we can to make his last days as loving as possible.  As a "class ring-leader" I do need to go.  We had over 300 in our class at one point, but don't think that many graduated.  Never did count them, everyone busy wondering what they would do the next year, wrapped up in our own little worlds.

Callie, I've had 3 nights in a row that "something" woke me about 2:00am.... each night different sounds that I could never identify so went back to bed/sleep.  We have had enough rain to help the lawns (mine nearly 100% weeds) & trees.  I have columbines blooming, iris with big buds and even buds on some blue cornflowers (or bachelor buttons).  The Bermuda grass has taken over everywhere so I won't try to plant anything else.  I hate to use RoundUP or any of the poisons because of the birds (& cats).

Bedtime in Kansas, radar shows the rains are past. One cat (Tom) is out, he stayed in all day because of rain. The others are all inside, Callie in her garage. Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Shirley

Shirley I guess you posted and went to bed your post was just after midnight, and I went to talk to you  it said you were offline.hope it is a restful peaceful sleep. C u  Later.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, looks like another gloomy day here. This damp weather and arthritis sure do not like each other.

CALLIE  goodness that was quite a storm you slept through after that bang. Glad your new plants did not float away. Just saw on the news that Maryland was hit with a bad storm last night with rain and wind and trees down. Don't see much coleus around here any more. At one time every one seemed to have them and I had several different colors as house plants. They did great as long as I pinched off the stems with the flowers on them.

JUNE  I think I have read all of Fern Michael's books and enjoyed all of them. If I remember right Kentucky Rich is about thoroughbred race horses. Like you mornings are best for me, that is after after I have my coffee and breakfast. By late afternoon I am worn out.

JANE  I am ready to put on my nightgown and robe by 7pm. Hard to believe just 2 years ago I would still be either out on the porch in summer or down in the library till 9 at night.

SHIRLEY  last weekend (Easter) we had warnings of fire threats because it was so want and windy with very low humidity, Now we have had enough rais to take that warning down. No happy medium this year.

LLOYD  seems like no one else is around when I get here lately.

Have a good day.

I got this yesterday, good ones to remember when we get annoyed.

Telemarketer Tips

1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money. Ask, "How long can I keep it? Do I have to ever pay it back, or is it like the other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?"

2. If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died . . ." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems.

3. If the person says he's Joe Doe from the XYZ Company, ask him to spell his name, then ask him to spell the company name, then ask where it is located. Continue asking personal questions or questions about the company for as long as necessary.

4. This one works better if you are male: Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy and I'm with Canter and Siegel services....You: "Hang on a second." (few seconds pause) "OK Judy, (in a really husky voice) what are you wearing?"

5. Crying out, in well-simulated tones of pleasure and surprise, "Judy!! Is this really you? I can't believe it! Judy, how have you BEEN?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of terror as she tries to figure out where the heck she could know you from.

6. Say, "No," over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, and keep an even tempo even as they're trying to speak. This is the most fun if you can keep going until they hang up.

7. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up with their Family and Friends plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can muster, "I don't have any friends . . . would you be my friend?"

8. If they clean rugs: "Can you get blood out, you can? Well, how about goat blood or HUMAN blood - chicken blood too?"

9. Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional "Uh-huh, really, or, "That's fascinating." Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you. They get all flustered, but just tell them you couldn't give your credit card number to someone who's a complete stranger.

10. Tell them you work for the same company they work for.

Example: Telemarketer: "This is Bill from Watertronics."

You: "Watertronics!! Hey I work for them too. Where are you calling from?"

Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas." You: "Great, they have a group there too? How's business/the weather? Too bad the company has a policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya."

11. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and if they will give you their phone number you will call them back. If they say they are not allowed to give out their number, then ask them for their home number and tell them you will call them at home (this is usually the most effective method of getting rid of Telemarketers). If the person says, "Well, I don't really want to get a call at home," say, "Yeah! Now you know how I feel." (smiling, of course...)

Good morning everyone.
Overcast here at the moment, not sure if laundry will be hung out yet or not, skies may clear.

Need to corral those darn dust bunnies today, plus do some baking in between doing laundry and cleaning.

Mrs Robin woke me up, then crow decided to chime in with her..very vocal and very loud ,bless their hearts.

Shirley our flowers are gingerly poking up through the ground, my rhubarb is starting to leaf out though. Your trip will be a sad one but one your friend will appreciate very much.

Jane , that old geezer was letting you know, you still "have it". You likely made that mans day for him..

Callie, I was listening to the radio on my way to the vets and they were giving out all the roads that had been closed due to flooding. I know we need Spring rains but sometimes we get a bit too much.

Gloria, yesterday was a hurry up and wait day and when we got home I did a whole lot of nothing.Going to the city really makes me tired. We took the dogs with us and while hubby was getting chemo I would check on them or take them out for a walk.

Hal, glad your feeling a lot better and hope it continues .

Larry, I don't know if the crow won but it amazed me to think he would pick on that big bird. The wild turkeys are getting out of hand here ,they make a mess when they go through a vehicle windshield and it is happening more often now.

June, sounds like you had the perfect day, and you feel much better too!! I agree with you about the ol geezer.

Better get ready to get my work done.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  Yep, I took the old geezer
s flirting as a compliment and he went away smiling.  I forgot to say that I actually hugged another old geezer.  He told me he's 98, lives alone and takes care of his own needs.  His wife passed away 2 years ago at the age of 94.  I just thought he deserved a hug and I told him so.  He went away smiling, too.

I think that God rewards our gathering years with little special events and some people don't even notice them.

Guess I better feed the doggies and put the clothes in the dryer.  I forgot them last night but I want to change the bed today and that means more laundry.

Amy, are those "bunnies" breeding?  I think mine are!  It's a good thing I like bunnies!

Later friends!  Make today a good one!

I forgot to mention my memorable telemarketer call.  She told me that she was calling to help me out.  I asked her how she'd do that and she asked if my credit card debt totaled more than $10,000.00.  I said "NO" and she hung up on me.

Daughter and SIL will visit today.  We have mainly rain but snow in showing on the wooden fence by the ravine in back.  Something is wrong with the thermostat - it was 63 degrees in here this morning.  Maybe Don set it that low - he is from Duluth, Minnesota so he was used to colder morning than normal.

Jeanne:  LOL   - good story.

Larry:  Someone still has the dresser - I forget.  I hope Pat will find a solution for her pain that keeps her awake.

Callie:  I always think springtime is worse for tornadoes - we had a tornado at the end of May (when we lived in Minnesota) that they didn't even give a warning because no one thought it was threatening.  Figure that!  Maybe you should keep your phone plugged in all night long - take care.

larryhanna

Marilyne, I fear I am a pretty talkative person and seldom see a stranger.  This week sitting in the doctors office I struck up an interesting conversation with a lady sitting next to me with her husband.  We started to talk and she shared that she has a rare genetic condition and has to have weekly infusions that cost $18,000 per week.  (The per week isn't a typo.)  I about fell out of my chair.  Sorry to read that you have the paralyzed vocal cord and hope that one day it starts to work again.  I would be in a quandary if I couldn't talk although my voice lets weaker as I get more tired throughout the day.

I haven't read the posting from yesterday and this morning yet but need to go lay down and see if I can get my heart to settle down.  I will be back later this morning or this afternoon.

CallieOK

Good Morning,

I actually have the furnace on this morning!  Crazy Oklahoma weather!!!!

Carol,  my land line is always on; the BLARE was on my cell phone.  However, I don't want an automatic warning about anything "yelling" at me from anywhere!
I also have an old-fashioned phone that doesn't require electricity and I plug it in when there's a possibility of the electric power going out.  It, of course, has the same connection as my land line.
DIL told me how to get rid of the Emergency Message warnings on my cell phone....and I did!

Gloria,  I didn't realize coleus had flowers when I first started putting them in.   Soon learned to snip them off.
Most of my windows are on the north in this duplex so I no longer have house plants.

Amy, there are a lot of creeks that run through my town and that means a lot of streets flood during rains like we had yesterday.   Some silly people insist on trying to drive through the water and get stuck so rescue crews are always busy.  The advertised slogan is "Turn around. Don't drown".  Yesterday I heard "A car is not a boat.  It won't float".
The water usually recedes quickly but our red clay soil makes for a lot of icky mud.

June,  I've also read all or most of Fern Michael's books.   The one you just finished is part of a "Kentucky" series.  Hope you can find the others.

My cupboard is beginning to look like Mother Hubbard's.  Better do something about that.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Mary Ann

Callie, I've heard that north windows are good for African violets.  I have only a north slider and I do have house plants there - all on a marble-top table.  Some flower, some don't.

I woke to 32 degrees this morning but it is about 50 now.  With the sun shining, you know it is a beautiful day.

Good Saturday morning my dear friends. May this be a happy healthful day for all.

Bis, what a delight to see you posting again. You are SO missed my darling friend. God is hearing and answering our prayers, and I am very, very thankful. This has been a long siege for you this time Bis, and I'm sure you are eager to have it all over with and back home again. God willing, the rest of your healing will be speedy. I'm sending you love and prayers, always.

Larry, it is hard to believe that anyone can afford 18,000.00 dollar payments every single week. I hope the lady has a great insurance policy and what happens when the income runs out ?
Larry, another bonus for us having the Soda Shoppe to visit with one another…you don't have to use you voice. Do you have arterial fibrillation ? My son has that, but it can be controlled with medication, thankfully. You are wise to know when you must rest and relax.

Amy, thank you for the wisdom of Mother Teresa. She lived what she spoke. My "day" consists of the hours from 6 a.m. till 1 or 2 p.m., then I crash. Book and sleep, but I am thankful I am free to do as needed.

My telemarketer says about six words and I just hang up. It sounds like a recording..always a young woman…so I never say a word.

Gloria, we have a whole bunch of Fern Michaels books at the library so I will plow on through them. I know I have read a sequel to this one, but it doesn't matter. She writes so well it is easy to enjoy, even if it is not in sequence. I switch from light reading to C.S. Lewis, and also we have a section of what is titled Christian fiction, so I am reading Stephanie Grace Whitson's books too. Three different authors, three different styles…all entrancing. I too am getting ready for bed by 7 p.m. Teeth, washing face, medicating legs, then book and bed.

Callie, as I told Gloria, I have read one or two sequels to Kentucky Rich, but it doesn't matter, as the author connects the novels so well. Interesting how several of us like the same author.

Good morning, EVERYFIEND...ESPECIALLY our Joan!

Dreary and cool in Austin this morning.  This coming week it is to get into the mid-ninties!  Yikes!

Snow on the back fence this morning, CAROL?  Our oldest grand is headed to his lacrosse game quite near, behind the PO on Quebec.  It is never that close to us when we are home.  They told them to dress warm, so I knew it must be cool today.

LARRY, I hope your heart settles down and you can enjoy your day.

Thank you, AMY.  Love the Mother Theresa saying.

GLORIA, your solicited quotes are good ones.

JANE, always nice to do something that makes others smile, including you.

Bob is ready to GO....so have a good day.

Turned out to be a lovely day here, I put laundry on the line and in no time was bringing it back in. Wind had it dry in no time. While hanging it out, I listened to a partridge drumming and then a paleated woodpecker hammering into a tree while overhead a Great Blue Huron flew by...Spring is returning here..

Gingersnap cookies, sour cream cake and hot  tea biscuits are in the hidey hole to nibble on. Think I am going to call it a day  and just go play in the sewing room now.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Another treat today, Joanie has posted and is on the mend.  What more could we ask for.  Hurry back Joan, we sure miss you.

Larry, hope you are feeling better this afternoon.  I was up and out to take some stuff to be shredded at the bank this morning, but soon lost most of my energy.  Took a little nap and feel somewhat better.

Amy, any limits on the goodies in the hidey hole?

Like Jenny said it is a cloudy, dreary day and turn pretty cool, but it wont last, as she also said.

Weather is not good for Texas open, but not many named players this year.

Everyone have a great day.

Hal, you did a good chore today, and of course it wore you out. You have been sick my friend, and you are healing. Be glad you got to the bank and back again. Cheers!!

Janie, wasn't that a nice treat to have our Bis pop in on us ?? It made my day.

I took a morning walk, and picked up a couple more books at the library. I like to keep extras on hand, never knowing when I may not be able to get out. Then home for a bit and down for lunch. Ate with a different lady today, had a good chat. Had a salad plate of three different salads, very tasty. Home to nap, of course, and read, then took another nice walk. It is a beautiful day..soft breezes, 84 degrees..could not ask for better.

I have been MIA for a while.   My computer was in the shop and I sure did miss it.

I did not go back and read a lot of the past messages, but was so happy to see a message from Joan a few minutes ago.  I had been hoping that she might have posted something here while I was not on the computer.   Joan, so happy that you are feeling well enough to visit here.  You have really been missed.

Time for me to get off here and get to bed.  Since I am a night owl,  it isn't unusual for me to still be up, but I do need to get some sleep.  Did not sleep well last night.

Have a good Sunday.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have a cold morning today.  it's only 34º right now.  It's supposed to be sunny all day and will get into the low 60s later today.  It's definitely Spring in Central PA.  You can't depend on the weather being anything you expect!  What you can depend on is UNPREDICTABLE!

Joy, I missed you.  I was wondering where you were.  Nice to see you back.  Computer problems have become the bane or our existance haven't they>

I have a busy day today and I really don't feel up to par!  I didn't sleep well for the past two nights and that makes for a sluggish day.  I've decided that God will understand if I don't go to church this morning.  I just don't feel up to getting ready.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  Maybe the sunshine will have a good effect on me.  I'll depend on that!  I wish you all "sunshine".

Good morning everyone.

A beautiful sunny day here, temp is 28 but on the rise. Today is a day of rest, only VON coming today and after that it is a free day.

Joan ,so good to see you in here, we have certainly missed you and pray for a speedy recovery for you.

Jane,I am sure He will understand and you need a day of rest too. When we don't get a good nights sleep it makes us really tired the next day but you have had two nights of no rest.

Callie, I don't understand why people have to test the waters so to speak. We had a 28 year old drown a couple of weeks ago.He was out in a paddle boat and it took on water. The ice has just gone out of the lakes so it is freezing cold..and he did have a life jacket....in the boat not on him!!

Lloyd, good morning, I am glad you liked it. How is your eye coming along?

Better go get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi everyone.  It is another lovely Sunday morning here in South Carolina. I really have nothing to write about yesterday as spent almost the entire day laying in the bed as just couldn't get rid of the dull pain in my chest.  I did get a good nights sleep and got up feeling better this morning.  I fixed Pat's breakfast and emptied the dishwasher and am now having my breakfast.  I am very hopeful that I will be up to attending Sunday School and Church this morning.  Pat will not be attending. I will pick up something for our lunch and that will be it for today.  I plan on watching the end of the golf tournament down in Texas in the late afternoon.

Jenny, after I laid down around 9:30 yesterday morning the severe pain left but I had a dull pain in my chest the rest of the day and was very tired.  I do feel much better today.

Amy, it has been years since I smelled the fresh scent of laundry dried on an outside line.  One of my memories of growing up on the farm where we had three long clothes lines.  Pat saw her first hummingbird yesterday and it was back this morning.  She gets a lot of pleasure from watching them.

Hal, usually if I can go to sleep the discomfort in my chest will go away.  However, that did not happen yesterday.  I am waiting for my bank to announce their annual shredding day as have a large stack of papers to have shredded.  I think it is usually in May they have this event.

June, are you limited to how many books you can check out of your library at a time?

Joy, good to see you back posting.  I always find it a strange experience if I don't have access to a computer.  Now with my iPad and iPhone that is never a problem.  Pat and I each have two computers.  One by our easy chairs and I have a desktop in my office and she has an older laptop in her sewing room.  My wife is also a night owl.

JaneS, you are wise to take a rest day and not push yourself if you are not feeling well.
