Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Amy, I am getting some metal rails but its going to be a good 4 weeks before they get fitted...

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I feel much better than I did last night.  I slept well waking only once around 3:30 a.m. but was able to go right back to sleep.  Right now, it's 41º here and heading for a high of 71 later.  They are predicting rain to begin around 8 p.m. tonight.  That's perfect!  Nice weather and then rain when it gets dark.

I'll be off to another morning at Wally World today.  I had some really nice people through my line yesterday including a lady I met some years ago who reminds me or our own Pat Howe.  I found out since that she is acquainted with one of my classmates who is a good friend of mine.  The first time she came through my line, I did a double-take because she looked so much like Pat.

Doggies are both camped under my desk to remind that they are ready for breakfast.  I try to hold them off until about 7 and it usually works but promptly at 7 they will get up and remind me they're ready for breakfast.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

P.S. to June...I never end up on the sofa all night.  First, it's too crowded because both doggies have to join me and also it's either too cold (I forgot to get a blanket) or it's too hot (the blanket is too warm).

Hi Jackie
The drive by 'R' was a long one!

I bet he was tired.

When I travel from the South East of England to the Isle of Man, I have to either get the ferry or SeaCat from Liverpool or Heysham.

Liverpool is a 270 mile journey while Heysham is 305 mile journey.

Since I drive a modified car, my limit is an hour driving and then a break for an hour.  Usually I drive over one or two days to complete the journey.

And I have been known to stop overnight on two nights makeing it a three day journey.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  It's too bad you don't have a ramp so you could get past those concrete steps.  Rails will work well, but four weeks is a long time to wait.

Amy--Good morning.   I never heard that about frogs--learn something new each day.

Good morning, Kelly.  Gloria is not online because her computer is not working.

Janie--Good morning.  It's amazing the people you meet when you are a checker at WM.  Good to hear you slept so well last night.

Joan, once I get past those 3-4 concrete steps the pathway goes down in a slope, but I do have some trouble getting off from the pathway to the road curbing......I will also be glad when he fits railing bars to the back as I have a couple of decking steps, a decking boulder then a piece of ground with pebble before I reach the grass, which also is on a slope.....Yes I knew problems would arise from these, guess I just never expected this long a wait, well as my late father would often say..." it always sounds quicker when you say it...." or was that...." it always sounds sooner, when you say it quick...."

Kelly

Hi Joan
Thanks for the information about Gloria.

larryhanna

Hi everyone on a clear and beautiful morning.  Today will involve my normal Thursday morning activities except I will not be picking up the fellow to take to coffee as he told me last night he has other plans for today.  I have two or three small errands to take care of beside coffee and going to the Wisdom group at Church.  Scott joined us for dinner at Church and then came out but didn't stay more than an hour as he wasn't feeling good.  His doctor put him on some new medicine and he thinks it may explain why his muscles are aching.  He was going to stop by the pharmacy on his way home and talk witht he pharmacist about it.

Jeanne, you can be assured you won't be paying a speeding fine although it sounds like you have been safe from doing so for a long time.

Molly, did your embassy chauffer's have the diplomatic immunity that other staff enjoy?  Like you I have no great desire to eat again at Cracker Barrel although certainly expect I will as Pat likes it.

June, I taught my wife how to drive but it was over a span of 5 years as we kept moving or was expecting one of our two children.  However, she persisted.

Kelly, yes the allowances are related to Federal and State Income taxes. Since you are now residing in two places do you have to file both the UK and IOM forms.

Jenny, I wouldn't think it would be good to put paint on if there is water coming off the roof.  Maybe they will wait until the snow is off the roofs and the wood has an opportunity to dry out.  Are all the houses in your neighborhood being painted?

Don, what a positive experience you had with your Accura.  While I have not had the same experience I feel the same way about my Hyundai as have owned two of them with very little trouble.  If I ever buy another car it likely will be another Hyundai.

June, having the engine drop out of the car as you leave the dealership says a lot about the lack of quality of the car.  I do remember when the auto makers were turning out some less than good quality cars.

Sandy, I don't remember you ever telling us about your good experience with the car garage on your trip to the West in your van.  I firmly believe that most people are good but those that aren't give the good ones a bad rap as we tend to focus on the bad.

Mary Ann, the organ concert sounds like it was great.  Our current church is the only one I have ever attended with a pipe organ and we also have an outstanding pianist/organist who also directs the choir.

Patricia, does the coffee shop organ still exist or is it a thing of the past.  Some of my fondest memories of going to Arizona every winter while my folks were there was going to a pizza place that featured a big theater organ.  We went there several times and I really enjoyed it.  I also went to a similar place in the Denver area on a visit there.

Lloyd Hammond

Good morning everyone.
looks like you all are up and busy today. I slept in and am still tired this AM. full day yesterday, with Nancy's test at HP. and hauling ans selling junk. when I was in salvage (demolation busness) I acumalated

Lloyd

sure wish spell ck worked you all know what i look like so learning how to get my picture back can wight.

JoanFL

Jackie-Vanilla--You do have quite a few barriers/slopes to contend with.   I'm sure it'll be better when you get railings.

Good morning, Larry.  I hope Scott gets his medicine situation taken care of so he doesn't ache so much.  Enjoy today's activities.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Working on your machinery sure keeps you busy.

Hi Larry
No I only pay taxes on the Isle of Man as that is where I am a resident.

And my time will see me as much here as the South East of England.

Kelly

Mary Ann

A friend of Tom’s played a Wurlitzer theater organ at the Roaring 20s Plaza in the south end of town.  I was there with family once and heard him perform.  Theater organs have a different sound than pipe organs.  I like both.

My dad had a Conn organ at the time he died and it went to Norm’s.  Dad liked the sound but Norm did not so he traded it in for a Hammond organ.  That was fine as long as the organ was in the living room, but when he and Dot moved to my condo complex, there was not enough room for the organ so it went to the family room.  After that the organ was played very seldom.  I don’t know if James has it yet, but plans are that he will pick it up from Dot’s and take it to Holland.

LARRY - Sorry, but I really don't recall whether the Embassy Chauffer had Diplomatic Immunity or not.  I assume that he did, since he also was the Chauffer quite often for the Ambassador.

When I turned on my computer this morning, there was a message with the name of a couple from my Church.  When I clicked on the screen to read the message, nothing happened.  I repeated that a couple of times and a CAUTION notice came up on the screen.  I called the friends whose name was on the screen and the fellow told me "don't feel around with that!!!!"  It is NOT from us and we had so much trouble with our computer, we had to replace it TOTALLY.  Cost was over $85.00.  He had no idea what caused the problem - his wife is quite Computer savvy, but finally gave up and they got the brand new machine!  I immediately omitted the message and sure hope I don't receive anymore!

One of the chair rails popped out of its slot this morning, so I set it aside and will not use it any more.  I tried to push the rail back into the slow, it would NOT move at all.  I recall a few years ago when
we invited a friend to join us for lunch at the same table.  I brought the luncheon to the table and everyone sat down.  As I sat down on the chair, the entire chair collapsed as the lower chair rail popped out of its slot. I fell to the hardwood floor on my back and it took a couple of minutes for me to catch my breath and be able to sit up.  The folks at the table all jumped up to help me and I was sure glad I was not alone.  And this morning I am very grateful that I noticed the disconnected chair rail BEFORE I sat down.  Perhaps "Luck of the Irish!"

MaryTX

Molly, did your friends have a "gmail" email account?  My sister mentioned that she and several friends who have gmail accounts have been hacked recently.    She was okay but the hackers got into Ginny's account and raised havoc with her computer.

Mary Ann--We never had an organ, but always had pianos.  My twin brother and I started taking lessons when we were 5 y/o.  When I moved here from AR I left my piano behind, and I times I regret it.

Molly--Once in a while I get one of those spam messages, but recognize from the subject line that it isn't legit and delete it immediately without clicking on it.  I think I'd put the chair aside until it can be properly repaired.

MaryTX--My daughter had her gmail account hacked a few weeks ago.

Bis, thank you for Silent Witness…..words from a 12 year old girl…there is hope for our world.

Janie, so your sofa "lay me down" is just a preview of the bed to come…I can understand the discomfort in shaing with two sweet doggies.

Jackie, don't take any chances with going down steps. In an emergency you could go down on your butt, then there is the problem of getting back up.

Larry, I was very devious..if I were driving and should do something wrong, I would just smile at my husband and say, "You were the one who taught me to drive, so the error is not mine." As I recall Ed was buying Chevrolets at the time, and it was in the 50's when the designs were changing radically. At one time the Chevy body was built more like a boat, with the big fins.

I too had my gmail messed with.  It is Google that runs gmail, correct ?

Just nine thirty here in Ca. I have had breakfast while you folks on the East Coast are having lunch. My weather person says it is 77 degrees, but it feels hotter than that to me. But this room is filled with the morning sun.

We are having our program soon of Music Bingo, and I love to play that, but I am feeling a bit dizzy this morning so I had best just stay home, and hopefully go down for lunch. My pantry shelves are well stocked, but I don't keep fresh veggies on hand, and I do love salads.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Morning from another sunfilled day in the Interior!

Well, my knees are protesting yesterday's walk but I feel good and want to do more but perhaps not as much at a time.

Hal, 2 weeks down on life expectancy? No more pizza for us!

Larry, the Episcopal organ and the one from the Theater are similar but not the same. Both buildings are on the Historical Register, however the old Empress Theater has been sectioned off into shops and the coffee shop there now has the pipe organ and a few other items from the old theater or display.

The theater outside movie display, (Marque?); now shows dates for various happenings for the shops inside. The Empress Theater and the Co-Op building across the street and down both are said to have ghosts with the usual tales of mayhem , suicides and murder attached but I have never noticed anything so I might be lacking in proper imagination although my mother who worked in the basement of the old Co-Op said quite a few employees never stayed late and others quit over various happenings.

There was another organ I recalled from reading your post. Uncle's Pizza from long ago had an organ but as they were going for a nineteen twenties vibe, I  think the organ may have been a reproduction and don't know what happened to it when the shop closed. That entire area where the pizza shop was located fell victim to urban renewal long ago.

Vanilla-Jackie

Junedrabek, you are so right, that is exactly what I fear...so easy, so quick to go down, so slow, so hard to have to get up, if at all I can.....

JaneS

I'm home and it was another good morning.  I'm tired and the sofa is calling so I think I'll go squeeze in a nep before I have to pick up TLH!

Larry with all these trips you are making to "Wisdom Group" you must be the wisest man I know!

June--Yes, gmail is part of Google.  Sorry you have to miss the musical Bingo, but if you're dizzy it's wise to take precautions.

angelface--I guess you overdid the physical activities yesterday, and are suffering from that today.

We haven't heard from Callie since Sunday.  I hope she is OK.

My couch us calling to tell me it's nearly nap time.

Janie--Your couch and mine must call about the same time.:)

CallieOK

Callie is fine - just doesn't have anything pertinent to say.

Until today, the weather has been gloomy and wet.  I almost didn't recognize the bright shiny object peeking over the trees this morning - and had about forgotten that the sky is blue.

I have gotten quite a few projects done at home (nothing worthy of a demerit, though).

Yesterday,  Miss Emily e-mailed to say she is working a softball tournament at the Softball Hall of Fame Stadium Friday night and Saturday morning - would I be "up for a 'snack'" if she stopped by on her way to the game?   I translated that as "feed me before I go".  :smitten:

Then a new modem/router combination arrived from Cox and #2 son is coming after work today to hook it up.  I plan to "cook once, serve twice" for tonight/tomorrow.

And THEN, just a little while ago, Miss Ellen called to see if I would be home for her to come and chat this afternoon.  She has two trips to tell me about - and, from the way she sounded, maybe a few other "developments" (my imagination is going wild!!) The peanut butter cookies that she can eat on her gluten/dairy free diet are in the oven!

Sounds as if Everyfriend is doing pretty well with their usual activities.  Me, too.

JoanFL

Callie--I am glad to hear you are OK.  You're lucky that both Miss Ellen and Miss Emily live close enough to stop by for a visit (and a bite to eat :).  You're also lucky that your son is there to do things for you.  Enjoy your family.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
It's just little old me.  I have been in a couple of times to read the post but forgot to post, well, not really, like Callie not much of interest to anyone to post about.

Went to men's bible study and breakfast this morning and while there a big tstorm came up and we lost power there for a while, about 3 minutes.  But it didn't really cause a problem.  They are predicting more late this afternoon and heard awhile ago that Houston is getting more rain, which they need like a hole in the head, and that there are two damns that are in danger of collapsing.  When it rains it pours, no pun intended, it is in no way a joking matter.

Anyhow Angel, wonder if any of those Monarchs came through San Antonio.  We are on their migratory route.  Normally see more in the Fall than in the Spring.

Hope you all have a great day.

Molly

Evidently email hacking seems to be much more common than I realized.  I think today was the first time I recall this happening to my computer.  When I called my Church friend a second time to double-check what he told me, it was the same message from him.  I sure don't want to get caught up in that kind of nonsense!

Sure wish I could figure out why I continue to receive so many calls on my cell phone which are from numbers I do not recognize.  Quite often they are from the same number!  Sure is annoying!

Hope folks are getting ready for an enjoyable weekend!

Sandy

They could be political "robo calls",  Molly!

Hi Molly
I had a road gully (drain) cleaner back into me last year.  Only scratches and a tiny deny. It was repaired and paid for  me.

But I have had numerous phone calls on my house and mobile phones.  Asking if the collision was not my fault, they would look into the matter for me to see probably if I Should be compensated.  Of course they would want a huge fee for that.

Every time I say no thank you and ask they do not call again, then days later, they do.
