Hi everyone. We are in for a very hot day today in the upper 90's.  I have an appointment at 10:30 with the lung doctor.  This is the annual required visit related to my CPAP machine.  There have been no issues so this will be just a routine visit.  Yesterday evening I opened a new 10 pound bag of beautiful red delicious apples but the first two I took out had spoiled spots on them.  So I will be returning the whole bag to Costco later this morning.  They guarantee satisfaction and I am certainly not satisfied.  It is a 10 lb bag and I have bought them numerous times in the past without a problem.

I don't have much available time this morning so will try to be brief as want to catch up on yesterday and this morning postings before I leave the house.

Mary Ann, when I fix scrambled eggs with cheese for Pat I do put water in the skillet as the cheese has a tendency to stick as it dries and is hard to remove.  In the scheme of things a skillet left dry isn't worth commenting about as it is easily taken care of as you do.

Amy, it sounds like your DIL surprsied you with plants.   I need to get some hanging baskets for the back porch and a plant for my front porch.  Sorry to see you had to make the early morning ER visit and sure hope their isn't a new problem.

June does the Rowntree Gardens have a beauty shop or bank or other small shops?  Hopefully today is the day for Joan to leave the rehab facility.

Jenny, we did have a nice visit with Scott and Jennifer last night.  Saturday is Jennifer's Birthday.  We went ahead and gave her money for her birthday so, if she wanted to, she could perhaps get something nice to wear to Saturday as we are taking she, Scott and her boyfriend out to eat at a nice restaurant for the remainder of her birthday present.  It will be the first we have met her boyfriend.

Gloria, you are the first to mention the copper frying pans.  It sounds like you are happy with it.  We have some telfon coated frying pans that are easy to clean and the silicon muffin tins which I really love as nothing sticks to them.

Lloyd Hammond

well I will try again I had a post all but ready to post and the gremlin got it.
Hope everyone is having a great day it is cloudy here calling for possible t showers. sun is popping in and out. 63º mostly cloudy for high of 68º today.
I am going to shop and finish putting the new hose on bulldozer. a 1" inside diameter hose 28" long with one straight  fitting wit a captive flange on it and a 90º fitting on the other. cost $220.37. no tax farm exempt . now you all see why Nancy says sell out and quit. for the $$ part I agree with her but am afraid if i did I would set down and die. but also I enjoy most all you for most of the time. Have a great day everyone. hope you all are having a great day.

Lloyd

Lloyd Hammond

Larry well we have some of the  coated pans but I prefer the old stainless Pans  and cast iron skillet. if I mess up and burn something to death in them I can clean them up. a little oil and salt will re season the skillet. Have a great day i am off to shop now see you later.

Gloria, I have not seen a square frying pan.  I have some cast aluminum and an Ekco frying pan but Tom wanted to use his own cookware so recently we switched.  His is heavy black and since he does the cooking now, I am the cleanup person.  it is just the eggs that dry before I get to them that is hard to remove.  I did buy him a wok when he came to live here and that is easier to clean but his pans have a textured bottom and the eggs stick there.  Fortunately we don't have eggs every day.

Larry, Tom does put cheese in his scrambled eggs and that is part of the sticking problem.  I would use my cast aluminum pan but I'd put hot water and detergent in it right away.  I'm not a neat person but I do some things right!

We have the start of a nice day.  It lightly rained a bit last night but radar now shows no rain in our vicinity.

Mary Ann

June Drabek

Gloria, I really enjoyed the post you gave about the lady driver and her bad behavior. A good lesson for all of us who get impatient too quickly.

Larry. We have one "store". They stock snacks, greeting cards, nonprescription medical needs, gifts, etc. Then we have a "used" stuff store. Some clothing, and everything you would find in places like Good will or Salvation army. We can write a check for twenty dollars and get cash at the front desk. We have bus trips that take us to various shopping areas, or restaurants on other days. We have the clinic downstairs where we can get medical needs and our personal doctors come once a month. X-rays, blood tests, are from private organizations that come to our room and do the work. I have fallen, and sustained bleeding injuries, and the nurses here can treat those in our room or in the clinic. My bills are done through my visa automatically, so you can see, it is like a little city in itself. I could not ask for more.Dentists or eyes are the only reason I would have to leave the property.

I looking for our Bis, but that is foolish on my part. She will be exhausted by the time she gets home and settled in. Maybe tomorrow we will hear from her. God Willing.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June Drabek

Larry, I forgot to mention, we have 3 and maybe 4 beauty shops..they also do manicures and pedicures, but both men and women.

I have decided to take the day off and just stay home. I am not going to dress, I'll stay in my nighty, and eat at home. I am not sick, I just don't feel good, so I will tell myself I need to take better care, and pretend I am sick. My mind is tired as well as my body, and I feel like a mean little kid. I will leave myself in
God's capable Hands.  Hopefully, He will Accept me.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

My sister and I had a good visit on the way to the chiropractor and back today.  We also stopped at an Amish farm that keeps a small store.  The wife makes cottage cheese and yogurt and they make butter and sell milk fresh from the farm.  They also sell eggs and some other organic products.  You go in and while you look around the store, someone will call from somewhere out of sight, "Do you need some help?" And then that person will appear almost before you can say "yes".

It's an experience not to be misses and so is the food.

I also made an appointment for Annie to have the non invasive surgery to have the biopsy of her liver.   And since the chiropractor is also a licensed herbalist and a good friend, she answered some questions about herbal liver treatments.

When we got home, my BIL wasn't here so we had lunch and waited until he called and then came back.  We fed him lunch and then talked for a bit more and they left to go home.

Last night, Natalie (my granddaughter in Texas who graduated today) sent me a website where they were live streaming her graduation and I was able to see her get her Master's degree!  I was so excited, I cheered, clapped and cried all at the same time. I probably saw her better this way than if I had been there in hall!

I'm off to bed.  it's been a very busy and productive day for this old lady.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

Amy

Good morning everyone.

Think we may get some liquid sunshine today..

Need to pick up some prescriptions today in town then home to coral those darn dust bunnies!

Larry, you ask the other day if hubby liked ice cream with his apple pie and kept forgetting to answer you. Sometimes he does, but with the type of chemo he is on anything cold, will cause electrical shocks in his mouth or hands and feet. So no ice cream until all this is over with.

Jane, you had a great time and your so lucky to be able to get the fresh milk! How I would love to get some good ol Jersey cream!!
One product that can be take for liver is Milk Thistle.check with your vet and /or chiropractor

http://canigivemydog.com/milk-thistle

Lloyd, hope you found some more zzz's too early to be up to stay.

Gloria, stewed rhubarb with crushed pineapple is in the hidey hole. Hubby doesn't like it too sweet so it may be too tart!

June ,everyone is entitled to take a day off and enjoy.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Amy, thanks for the suggestion about Milk Thistle but she's been taking in in medium doses since the last time her liver acted up.  Debra suggested upping the dosage for a while.  She said that the organic kind won't hurt her no matter how much she gets and she suggested adding 40 extra drops a day which I  am doing.

Don't you wish we could REALLY corral those dust bunnies so they'd quit multiplying.  They just seem to get free so often!

I'm about ready to go get ready for work.  So I'll check in when I get home to see what Everyfriend has been up to.  Have a wonderful day.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, JaneS, get yourself one of the Roomba's and let it chase them.  Our's take care of the problem everyday (except Sunday) at 12"45 and then goes back to it's dock till the next day.

Well, it is suppose to be a bright, sunshiny day.  But it is cool and cloudy like the last few days.  We never did get any rain.

Lloyd hope you finally got some sleep.

Coffee is ready, anyone want to join me for a cup?

Gloria

Good morning everyone, I think I need a new monitor. Have a blurred screen and this morning it is worse. This has been getting worse for a few months.

LARRY  my son gave me the deep square copper fry pan and my DIL for Christmas last year, he has since bought several different copper pans and they love them, they go into the oven and into the dishwasher.

MARY ANN  maybe you could ask Tom to use your fry pan for eggs or to put soap and water in the pan he uses when he cooks eggs. You have not seen commercials on TV about the copper pans?

JUNE  glad you liked that joke.

JENNY good ones, thanks.

JANE  wonderful that you see Natalie get her degree.

AMY  now I like lemon and rhubarb, too, (not together) both are tart and if I can nibble on raw rhubarb do you think I would find your stewed rhubarb too tart?

Screen getting more blurry, shutting down and starting later I will be able to see something again.

Hi everyone. We are expecting another hot day getting to 90 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday we got into the mid-90's and it was humid.  When I got to the doctor's office yesterday for my appointment they asked me hadn't I gotten the call that she wasn't going to be there.  I had not and when I got home I checked my call list back for three weeks and their number was not present.  Fortunately this was just across the river, probably about 6 miles away.  So I left and stopped at Costco to return the apples and replace them.  I ate a quick lunch there and came home and laid down for two hours plus.  All three doctor's appointments/tests were rescheduled this week.

There is nothing on the schedule that I must do today. I did make a tripr to Walmart to pick up a prescription for Pat and get a few other items.  I was able to get the electric cart and that helped as seem to be dragging today.  Yesterday afternoon Pat made a gallon of chili so we will be having some of that for our dinner tonight so no more cooking needed for today other than to fix my lunch.  I did fix Pat's breakfast and unloaded the dishwasher.

Lloyd, there is nothing cheap about farming.  Will your grandson be buying all the equipment along with the farm?  I bet you would always find projects to keep you busy since you will still be living on the farm.

June, it sounds like you have the stores and services you need right where you live.  I thought you would probably have a beauty shop available as ladies like to have their hair done.  My sister assured my mother had her hair styled each week in the beauty shop that was in the care home.  I don't think most men worry much about their hair particularly as we get older as there is usually less of it to be concerned about.  Hope you were able to rest well yesterday and the "mean little kid" has now left your apartment.  :)

Jenny, I liked the AARP humor and shared it with my wife, sister and SIL as we are all over 70.

JaneS, I am surprised the Amish farm is allowed to sell whole milk since with wouldn't be pasteurized. I am a little stumped at how the vet can do a biopsy and not have it be invasive.  The biopsies I have had involved the insertion of a long needle.  How neat that you were able to see Natalie get her Master's degree.  Isn't modern technology great.  I bet you did have a much better view than those lost in the audience.

Amy, that is terrible that your husband has such a reaction to cold things.  I bet he is looking forward to having some ice cream in the future.

Gloria, I may have to invest in a copper pan.  That sounds like my kind of cooking pan.  We can't put our telfon skillets in the dishwasher but can put the Cusinart stainless steal ones in the dishwasher and they come out sparkling clean.

Amy

Goodness, the day isn't  going as planned but gosh it is going fast!!! I did pick up the script along with milk and came home only to have the hospital leave a message. Had to take hubby back up so a Dr could increase his digoxin..let's pray that this is the answer to his problems..
Better go get  some wood in and I see the sun if finally saying good morning..might cut the grass and get that job done.

Hal, I do have a Roomba but with 2 long haird dogs the dust bunnies multiply fast!!.

Lunch is over, better get at it..

Amy, the soldier must have been from New England (sorry, Gloria).

Gloria, we have so many pots that I hate to add any more.  I am putting my pots and pans in a lower cupboard in case either of us wants to use them, but I'll leave other spots for Tom's pots and pans.  Either Tom has to learn to put soap and hot water in his pan or I've got to make it to the kitchen sooner than I do so I can put the hot water and soap in the pan.  I have mentioned it to him, but I don't say anything now because he is so helpful in other ways.  I have an eye infection and Tom picked up an antibiotic for me but before he gave it to me, he took off the childproof top and inverted it so it would be easy for me to take off.  That's why I don't say more about egg left in the pan.

Mary Ann

June Drabek

Jenny, lots of laughs in your arrps. jokes, but it should have been for much older people. When I was 70 I had no problems about aging. Not till my late 80's did I have similar problems, and the 90's have only increased the problems. I don't worry about them though. I'm just thankful to be alive and bumbling my way along.

Jane…ooh…how I wish I could be transported to that Amish farm. We have nothing like that in my section of the U.S.Their yogurt is the kind that is recommended for a lot of our ills. So much food in our super markets has been altered for longer shelf life, that we have lost many of the necessary nutrients. I'm glad you had such a productive day girl.

Amy, what a horrible circumstance that your hubby encounters when eating ice cream. does anything cold affect him like that. I pray he will graduate from treatments very quickly. And I am happy for him that he has such a sweet and helpful wife taking care of him.

Sandy, I never see a mistake in you left handed typing. You do very well my dear. I pray you will heal quickly so you can get back to normal living again.

Larry, the beauty shops would go broke if they depended on me. I wear my hair stick straight now, trim it myself and shampoo it myself. Looking "pretty", would take more that a beauty shop, but I am content with the package God enclosed me in.

My house keeper is shining up my bathroom now. My regular one is off to the Philippines, visiting her family, so this girl is here doing her job. All the employees are so nice..just like close family.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann, Tom sounds like a very thoughtful person (without being reminded).... but agree that eggs + cheese is the worst to have harden in the pan.  I've been using small skillets (teflon) that I can throw away when the teflon starts wearing off.... Right now am using Circulon pots & pans & love them, but since I eat an egg every day, will wear out the little one long before the others. I do use cast iron for meats & gravy.

By the way, a long time ago my neighbor told me her doctor said to NOT use aluminum for cooking, that her aluminum coffee pot was ruining her kidneys.  I've quit using it except for one pan that I kept to make the pimento cheese spread... it is the top of a double boiler & works perfect with the potato masher I use to "mush-up" the Velvetta cheese before adding the pimentos & Miracle Whip. Has anyone else ever heard this?

I am off to the grocery store & pick up fast food for lunch.  I'm hungry and don't know what for.  Saw so many good looking steaks walking around those Flint Hills last week end, but know they don't ever get "grain fed for the summer" like my parents had a farmer do for them every year.  Never get a piece of meat like that, my understanding is the feed lot "food" is some kind of artificial pellets to make them gain weight but sure don't bring out any flavor.  If I go east I see miles & miles of cattle on the Flint Hills and if I go west I see (and smell) lots of cattle pens.  Even one of the places here that advertises their "farm raised beef" do not pretend they are given extra grain/corn before being butchered.  I don't know anything about farming or raising cattle, but I do know what good beef USED to taste like.   :tissue:

Good ones, Gloria & Amy.....thanks!

I typed a message, lost it and then found it but it won't let me post it.  I copied it to word pad and then tried again to re post and all that posts is my name and the date stuff.  There's nothing under it.  I've tried 5 times now and I'm going to try one more time and then give up.  I even closed it out and came back in and it wouldn't post.  O where oh where is Jeanne Lee when we need her.

JaneS

Shirley, I stopped using any aluminum cook ware at least 30 years ago when I heard that it is bad for our internal organs.  I use nothing but stainless steel now and I do not us anything with teflon,  Once the teflon is damaged, it can flake off in the food and that's also not good for us.

Larry, the milk is inspected and passes state specs.  I don't know what that means but I know a lot of people who buy it and I don't know anyone who ever got sick on it.  My sister often freezes it and she says it's just as good when you thaw it to use as it is the day you buy it.

Also, what they refer to as "non invasive surgery for the biopsy is done microscopically as opposed to an incision which poses a bigger threat of infection.  That's what they said and that's all I know about it.

I'm off to rest a bit!  I'm really tired and I think it's the extra stress that's making me so tired.  If I'm not back later it's because I'm still resting.

I had said my pans were cast aluminum and maybe they are - and maybe they're not.  They are not stainless steel but are heavy metal, just not shiny.  I do have a 2 quart sauce pan and a 7" fry pan, Ekco, that share a cover and I like and use much.  I will say I've used the unshiny metal pans for years and I'm still here.

I don't know the make of Tom's pans but they have straight sides and are black.  The covers are glass.  I have my mother's cast iron skillet and I was making Swiss steak one time and heard a loud crack when I put some water in the pan.  I haven't used it for a long time.  I would bring it upstairs but we have so little room for the pots and pans we use that I hesitate to bring it out of storage.  I asked Tom one time if he wanted to use it and he said he did not.  I doubt he's ever cooked with cast iron.  His black utensils are not heavy enough to be cast iron.

June, thank you so much for the bold post; it is so much easier for me to read.

Mary Ann, it is easier for me to read too, I'll try to remember to keep using it.We had a nice Mothers' Day program after lunch today. We were asked to submit a statement about Mothers' Day, our motherhood, or our Mothers' mothering. So this is what I wrote, and it was read aloud to the crowd by our activity director. Afterwards we were all given a long stemmed Rose, and lemonade and mini cupcakes were served. I came home from the program and fell sound asleep.

This is the message I wrote. "God gifted me with three of His little Souls, to love and to raise. My husband helped, of course, but I delighted in being a Mother. I have learned that our children truly are a gift; to love, to care for, and to release when the time comes. Then as they become adults, more gifts are given in form of our grand children and then Great grandchildren. Now my son's are talking care of their mother, as happens in so many of our lives. The time will come when they will need to release me, which they will do with care, and I hope with happy memories of our life together. Our Gracious Father in Heaven has planned out all the details and I am so grateful. We are Blessed !!!"
As long as we are here, let's dance.

What you wrote, June, is beautiful.  I'm so sorry my own mother didn't live long enough to meet and enjoy her grandsons and eventually great grandsons and -daughters.  I will substitute the word "aunt" for "mother" in my case because I have been blessed to have three wonderful nephews and later their families.  Two of my families will celebrate Mother's Day for the first time this year and another will be enjoying a second Mother's Day.
