Good Afternoon Everyone...

It is warmer here on the rocky coast of Maine  today.     But "overcast" ..

Hal ...  Congratulations on balancing your check book.

I don't even own a check book,  (but I do have a checking account)  ....  I never liked the process of "balancing one"  and was tickled when I could go online and check out my account,  daily.     This has made paying my bills and checking my checking account so very much easier then it use to be.

Have a good day,  EVERYONE!

Sandy

Janie, thank you for the info on the "Readers". So far the "glare" is not noticeable on my iMac. I use a dark gray background, and other things, like the page I am typing on, and page of your message are of a very pale grey rather than white. I just ordered and received from Amazon two more pair of plain reading glasses, now I have glasses in every room and two purses and on several different desks and tables, so I no longer have to hunt them down.

Larry, with just your son to leave things with, I'm sure your Will is more than adequate. My husband made our Trust very simple. Everything goes equally to the two boys, then to their wives if sons are deceased. Nothing to the Grands and Great Grands… we feel that's up to the parents. After Ed died Gary went with me to my lawyer and had it all revised as needed. Each boy has a copy as well as I have. I am very content.

Callie, Your menu sounds scrumptious. Everyone should be very pleased.

While I was down the hall to a little lobby of sorts I sent a message here on my lap top, but I do not see it, so I did something wrong. Wish I knew what.

Hal, it will be interesting to see if the Oncologist will have some advice to avoid all those trips to the bathroom. You certainly need to have a good nights sleep, every night.

I am sure not a "lasting" human being now. Seems like once lunch is eaten, I am all worn out. Had another two hour nap this afternoon, and still tired. I should not complain…for shame on me…at least I have pretty good mornings.

Sandy, I no longer balance my check book. I do like our Bis/Joan, and let the bank take care of it and just put down the new balance after it arrives.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

June, I read a message from you where you were in the lobby using your laptop.  Might you have written it in Norm's B&T?

Today is laundry and shhh cleaning..

Callie, I too loved the sound of your dinner..any chance of you posting your fruit salad please?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a beautiful day in Central Pa.  The sun is shining and the birds are chirping!  Of course, the temperature refuses to be part of the "Spring Fling".  It's only 34 but it's supposed to get up into the high 50s this afternoon.  So I'm going to play Pollyanna and say, "I'm GLAD to welcome Spring!

I have no real plans for today but I'm sure something will come up.  I'll just take it as it comes.

I hope you all have a lovely day filled with exactly what you wish for.

Good morning everyone, well yesterday turned out to be sunny in the early morning and then clouds moved in and last night we had more rain. It is down into the 30's again this morning but the sun is shining..

LARRY  I have a friend who sends me some funny emails so thought I would share them. No one can replace JOAN for the great things she finds every day but we can all post some humor or a good story to try and keep her goodies going. I sure do miss her after about 15 years of not seeing her every day except for the time she was fighting for her life at the time S&F opened.

HAL  hooray, now if you pay attention with every transaction and get it into your checkbook you should have no more problems keeping it balanced.

JUNE  thanks for posting your  reading from yesterday.  I just copied it to read often.

CALLIE  doing something with love for family is not work, it is love shining through. I wish we would get news about how JOAN is doing. Nothing since she was being transferred to a different hospital.

AMY  guess I should not complain about all the rain we had this past week, it was not snow like you had. Been years since I have been without power. It has gone out for a couple off minutes here but that is about it. Thanks, glad you liked what I posted.

LLOYD  it is about time you started enjoying life doing nothing but something you enjoy, like the wood work you do.

JANE  like you it would be great to have some spring weather here. Seems like every time it is warm enough to open windows at last it starts raining.

Grandma's Take on Modern Life

Some time ago, a loving grandson was talking to his dear, old grandmother about modern life. He asked for her opinion on everything that had been going on in recent years. His grandmother gave him a long look and said: "Well now, sonny. Let me see...

I was born before:
Television
Frozen foods
Xerox
Contact lenses
Frisbees
The pill
There were no:
Credit cards
Laser beams
Ball-point pens

Clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air.
Man hadn't walked on the moon.

Your grandfather and I didn't live together 'til we got married. There were very few single mothers.

I called every man older than me 'sir' until I was 25. After I turned 25, I still kept calling every man with a title 'sir'.

We were before gay rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.
Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege.

We thought fast food was what people ate during
Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends, not purchasing condominiums.
We'd never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan' on it, it was junk.
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of. We had 5 & 10-cent (5 and dime) stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.  Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.
And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail one letter and two postcards.

You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could afford one? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

'Grass' was mowed.
'Coke' was a cold drink.
'Pot' was something your mother cooked in.
'Rock music' was your grandmother's lullaby.
'Aids' were helpers in the Principal's office.
'Chip' meant a piece of wood.
'Hardware' was found in a hardware store.
'Software' wasn't even a word.

We volunteered to protect our precious country... No wonder people call us 'old and confused' and say there is a generation gap."

This woman is 76 years old.

She was born in 1941.

Gives you something to think about, doesn't it? It just goes to show you how much life can change in one lifetime.

HI everyone.  It looks like it will be a beautiful day with little wind after two very windy days.  I am sure the golfers are delighted.  It is chilly this morning but suppose to get up to 70 this afternoon.

I had a wonderful time visiting with 5 of my friends who met me for lunch in Madison.  I had no trouble with the drive but was really glad to get back home so I could rest.  Rest is also my goal for today although there are a few chores I need to do but can take them slowly. I need to grate another pound of cheddar cheese, fry up a pound of sausage and also mix up and bake Pat's breakfast sausage muffins.  I have no intention of going anywhere today.

Hal, always a good feeling when it is balanced. At least that gave you something to occupy your time.  Hope you like your newly tiled bathroom floor.  Speith is only 4 shots back so he is still in contention.  I plan to watch it this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.  They have much better playing conditions now and the birdies should increase with less wind to content with.

Callie, I bet whatever you fix for your son and DIL will be greatly appreciated.  I know we certainly appreciated the meals brought to us when Pat had surgery.

Sandy, I sometimes wonder why I keep a checkbook program on my computer and reconcile each month.  Usually the problem is that I have missed entering something in the program.  However, old habits are hard to break.

Amy, glad you are not one of the places without power.

Lloyd, it sounds like your weather is about like ours today.

JaneS, I hope you can have a quiet and restful day today.  You deserve it as you are a hard worker.

Gloria, I agree about not replacing Joan but sharing a few things that have humor or deeper meaning frome time to time.  I also wish we could get an update on Joan but expect it will be a slow recovery process for her.  I just hope she will be able to go back to her home.  There have been a lot of new things in our lifetime and the piece you shared highlights some of them that we now take for granted.

Gloria, I enjoyed the piece about Grandma, especially the fact that she was born in 1941 and is 76 years old.  I graduated from high school in 1941 and in June that will be 76 years ago!

The sun is shining at Grand Haven (here too) and it looks beautiful.

Good Morning Everyone!

About the Oncologist, they are still trying to figure out if I have cancer or not.  They wont do a biopsy and are trying to figure it out using ultrasound studies.  Either way I am not too worried, so far I have had 84 years on this earth and life has been awful good to me so let come what may.  Hopefully I have something better coming.

Yep Larry, read an article in the sports page this morning about the Masters and how they are jammed up on the leader board.  Mickelson will be making a move today, I feel certain and also Speith.  Even Garcia is up there in the running.  There ought to be some good golf the next two days.

Man is about thru with the floor and wife is happy as a lark with the way it came out.
Soooooo, if she is happy i am ecstatic.  ;)

Everyone have a great day.  I intend to.

Good Morning dear hearts, big day at Rowntree Gardens…the EGGSTRAVAGANZA. This is a yearly egg hunt put on for the employees children and grandchildren..some older folks may decide to enter into all the fun, but there are dozens of chairs placed around our big garden area for us to sit on. I can see it all from my apartment. I don't know if neighborhood children are allowed in or how that is handled. But the little ones will have a great time, I know. There is face painting, printing, about a dozen various things that can be for the older children. Snacks are free for all.

Unfortunately, we had some drizzles during the night, but the gardens were out to sweep and blow the chairs and walkways free of puddles. Still cloudy but no rain, Thank You God. The work that goes into all this and the expense, we need sunshine today.

Program has started....I'll be back later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Larry we have a very clear Sunni sky but you must have sen't the
wind to us . it is traveling at 25 and gusting to 30 mph or better.
have a great day. i am in to eat and maybe take a nap and go to shop.

  Lloyd

Shirley

Gloria, here's another  for Grandma's remembering... We can all relate, huh?  Thanks.

Larry, every time I read about you shredding the cheese I wonder why you do it & don't buy the already shredded.  I used to shred as well & found I can enjoy the Kraft or Kroger brand just fine, especially since Kroger came out with the Mexican shred.  That really hits the spot on those eggs cooked in the little microwave thingies.  Add a tad of salsa & I have to have salt (bad me).... yummy.  I do get one brand of bar cheese at Sam's Club that is very good, not good enough to go back to the job of shredding again.  You are so good to Pat to fix her breakfast, I'm sure she appreciates it, too.

Hal, I'm planning to research ultrasound & Doppler before I ever have another heart cath.... I know a cath is a must if a stent in needed but sure not willing to gamble with a cath if ultra sound or doppler will tell.   Hope "they" don't find cancer but so many new cures that really work, it isn't the death sentence it was a few years ago.  Extra prayers for you when I'm on my knees in the morning.

We have some beautiful weather promised for this week, can't decide if I will just mosey on down to see dogwood or not.  Nice to think about.  Hope every Friend has a Wonderful Easter Week.

I don't want to hear about wind in Missouri, Lloyd!  I just got through telling someone "we don't have wind in MO like we have in Kansas!"  Shirley

CallieOK

Good Morning/Afternoon - depending on your Time Zone....

Food basket is packed and ready to be delivered "about" 1:00 p.m., as requested.  I "taste tested" the two casseroles for dinner last night and am not too sure about the ham/noodles one.  Think I'll suggest they mix a can of cream of "something" soup with it before reheating.

Amy,  I'll be glad to share the pie filling salad recipe. I'm sure it isn't as inexpensive now as when my Mother used it but it's so easy.  (She was an expert at "easy"!)

1 can Apricot or Peach Pie Filling
1 can pineapple tidbits, drained
1 can Mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup diced white grapes
2 or 3 bananas, sliced
1 small bottle maraschino cherries, drained
1 cup miniature marshmallows
Mix together, chill and serve.   No salad dressing needed.

The Jello/Cool Whip salad is also one of her "easies".
1 12 oz carton cottage cheese, drained
1 can crushed pineapple, drained.
1 3 oz. package Jello  powder   (your choice of flavor - Mother used lime; I used strawberry)
1 8 oz. carton Whipped Topping
Mix cottage cheese, fruit and dry Jello together.  Fold in Topping.  Place in a flat container (not a bowl) and chill.

Hal,  I like your attitude!  I'm glad that doctors seem to be more conservative about putting us over-80 folks through a bunch of invasive tests and treatments.

June,  Your balcony sounds like the "best seat in the house" for watching the Eggstravaganza .

I should probably water the pot garden - but the wind is so strong that I suspect I'd be watering the neighbors' yards....as well as giving myself a shower!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

June Drabek

I thought I posted a message some hours ago, but I don't see it. Perhaps I deleted it..I wouldn't be surprised.

Our Eggstravaganza was a great success. I did go down for two hours and enjoyed every minute of it. The little children were so much fun to watch picking up the plastic eggs. The luncheon they served was scrumptious. We had a young man making balloon animals, flowers, etc. and he made me a dog..even put a leash on it. Very artistic.

Of course I needed a nap this afternoon, and I feel I am "in" for the rest of the day. Maybe another walk this evening...maybe not. It is very quiet in here today, I hope and pray everyone is feeling fine.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

CALLIE, your jello, cool whip thing is in my file.  I got it from my daughter's MIL about a hundred years ago.  Her name was "Helen" and since the recipe is written on an envelope that was in my purse and has no title.  I just call it "Helen's Green Stuff".  And since she's gone, every time I make it, I have to make enough for Craig to have some.  He loves that I call it "Helen's Green Stuff"

I made it for the Christmas gathering at my daughter's this year and Craig's sister was there and when she took a bite she exclaimed, "This is exactly what Mom used to make."  My SIL answered, "Yep!  It's Helen's Green Stuff".  Cathy's mom makes it."

I did accomplish two major moves today.  I cleaned the fridge and rearranged the living room.  I finally figured out why I'd originally had it arranged the way I did and I changed it back to the original.  The girls changed it to accommodate the recliner but I never really liked it that way.  Now, I figured it's been that way long enough that no one will be insulted that I changed it.  I like it a lot better!  We'll see what Cathy says when she stops by tomorrow.

I hope you all have a good rest of the day.  I'm going to go get some kind of drink and sit on the sofa and enjoy the "new" look.

Jane,  the dil who had the hip replacement calls it "Pink Stuff" because her grandmother made it!  I guess it depends on what kind (color) Jello you use.  Mother called it "Dry Jello Salad. She sometimes used orange Jello and Mandarin Oranges instead of pineapple.
I've wondered if fresh strawberries would work with strawberry Jello.

June Drabek

Ummmmm, the jello salads sound delicious. I wish, in a way, I still cooked. Nah......I'll eat downstairs or defrost something. I have retired.

And so I intend to retire to bed with my book and then to sleep. Sleep well dear hearts,  I love you all. God give you Peace, Joy, Love, Hugs and Prayers. June

Good morning everyone..

Callie thank you so much for both those recipes, just in time for Easter dinner next Sunday. Just need to pick up a few ingredients and I am good to go!!

Did a few things yesterday, laundry, washed floors and even squeaked  in a nap!!

A day of rest here today,I still have some hand sewing to do so that may happen after the VON leaves.

Jane, I tried a new look in the bedroom, moved the bed to a new place and we just couldn't get used to it so back it went.

June ,sounds like a fun time for all at the Eggstravaganza, do you still have your balloon dog?

Hal, bet the new flooring looks great!

Gloria, Mr Crow decided that I had been in bed long enough and stood outside my window hollering for his breakfast..animals sure are smart!

Enjoy your day everyone..
