Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

We are off to the city for an appointment for dh then meet up with daughter in love to go to the chocolate factory and quilt shop.
Yesterday was a day of lovely rain, now the lawns are not as crispy and turning a beautiful green again,I don't know if this rain came in time to help the farmer or not.

Joan, thank you for breakfast

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Amy.  Yummy, a trip to the chocolate factory and of course, a stop at the quilt shop.  Enjoy your time with your daughter in love.

It's going to be another hot and humid day here.  I must get out and do some errands.  I'll go early to beat the worst heat of the day.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The rain has stopped here but not before the grass turned green and the ground has softened.  It's going to be cloudy today and therefore, not as hot as the weather we've been having.

Amy, take a bite of chocolate for me.  We have a small chocolate factory in this area that's been in business here for almost a hundred years.  They use to be located about a half block from the local high school and many of us found our way there on our lunch hour or on the way home after school.  They have since located the factory about 10 miles north of here but they still maintain a retail store on the main street in town.  I tend to avoid them because I spend too much money and I eat too much chocolate.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning.  Because of the Farmers Market, Wednesdays are always busy.  People shop the Farmers Market and then make a stop at WM.  I like the busy days the best....lots of people and time flys.

I hope you all have a lovely day filled with what you love best.

Joan, I will leave some chocolate and Chelsea buns in the hidey hole for everyone to enjoy.

Jane check the hidey hole.....have a great day at work.

Just checking in.  Have been so busy this week and another dental appt. this afternoon to go to.  Still hot here, too, but trying to just ignore it.

Congratulations to your grand daughter, Lloyd.  Wish her well.  And I would love to have some of your honey, too.  I love local honey and, thankfully, I can find it easily here at the Farmer's Markets.  We have a lot of local beekeepers in this area.

Jane, could you drop by and make some soup from these beautiful tomatoes that my neighbor shared with me this week?  Please?

Stopped by the French Bakery yesterday afternoon......big mistake!  But, I'm eating some delicious and decadent pastries, anyway!  So there, too!

Good morning everyone, had a nice surprise yesterday. My now retired son called and asked if I would like to take a ride to a farm. Of course I said yes. We went into Ct. to a place he knows, nice day for a ride. I got some great tomatoes and some just pick apples. Victoria apples, never heard of them  before. On the tart side and similar to the taste of a fresh picked Mac. First thing I did when I got home was eat a tomato, oh so good. Hope the weather guesser is right, supposed to get wind turning to the northwest and getting rid of the humidity

JACKIE  many do not like summer heat but how many rather have the cold and snow of winter? Shirley and I both like that, do you?

JOAN  we did not get the rain here like what was in the forecast. Not even a drop. I would not want a tornado either.

HAL  those are quite the pictures of fire waterfalls.

JANE  there is a team from here in RI at the LL games.

HAL  pretty bad when you fight with the blankets in your sleep. Glad I don't move much because every time I do my back wakes me up.

JOAN  I will enjoy a full breakfast this morning. Cute chuckle, the minds of children, right? Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  on local news this morning another town here is limiting outdoor watering. Have a good trip into town.

JOAN  hope you make it out and home before it gets too hot.

AMY  don't know what a Chelsea bun is but chocolate I sure will check the hidey hole.

LLOYD  lucky people who will get some of that honey. Wonderful news about your daughter.

PHYLLIS  wish there was a French bakery around here.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  We have another clear and warm morning and headed up to 95 degrees this afternoon.  I have a relatively quiet day planned with only Pat's chiropractic appointment in the late afternoon and then preparing dinner for Scott on his weekly visit with us.  Just two more weeks to go until we will start back with the Wednesday night dinners at church.

I was checking on the cost of the new medicine my cardiologist prescribed called Entresto, which is now being advertised heavily on TV.  I was shocked to find that the Walmart cost was about $425 dollar for a 30 day supply.  Fortunately I can get it through the mail order pharmacy that Blue Cross/Blue Shield uses and it is $107 for a three month supply.  Needless to say I wrote my doctor's office yesterday to call the prescription in to the mail order pharmacy as I will not buy the medicine at Walmart.  This takes the cost from $5.99 per day down to $1.17 per day.  That is quite a significant difference.

Joan, so far Pat seems a little better this morning as I haven't heard her cry out in pain.  So hopefully she is on the right track with these treatments.  We could use some more rain also.  However, I did remember to turn on the watering system so it will water the yard early tomorrow morning.

Hal, glad you finally got some rain and a very nice day temperature wise.  I sure would welcome a cool day, like in the 70's and low humidity.

Patricia, blow a little harder as that cooler weather hasn't reached South Carolina yet.

JaneS, those days when I was working but the work was light it always made the day drag.  I must preferred to stay busy and still do, although not too busy anymore.

Lloyd, a very nice accomplishment for your granddaughter.  If I recall, biology is usually a higher level class that is more an elective than a requirement for all students.  So it is likely she will have students who want to learn.

Phyllis, I have heard that honey produced in our own areas is much more beneficial to us than the store bought type.  You are fortunate to have a French Bakery close to you. I have always liked the French bread as well as the pastries.

Gloria, now that your son is retired perhaps you will be able to enjoy more outings with him.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Awoke to a very cloudy, dark and damp day.  No rain, just very high humidity and a threat of rain in the air.  The threat of rain is suppose to start to diminish tomorrow, down to 20 percent.  But linger for the four or five days.

Lloyd congratulations are in order for your Granddaughter.  She has a long hard job ahead of her.  And also on your honey raid.  That's lots of honey.  Now where did you say that butter and hot biscuits were at?   Or if you want a real treat then make yourself some  Sopapilla's, puch a hole in the top and fill with fresh honey and EAT......you can't stop with just one.  Or a dozen.  http://whatscookingamerica.net/CynthiaPineda/Sopapillas/Sopapillas.htm  They are a real treat on a cold day and served hot.

Larry, medicine prices are completely out of control, it seems.  I really don't know what happen to business ethics.  Profit is necessary to stay in business but trying to gouge, like so many business do now days, is just plain wrong.  I know most of my medicines I wouldn't be able to afford without my benefits from the military.

Gloria, I know you enjoyed the trip with your son.  I used to love it when just me and my Dad would do something together, especially after I was a grown man and he would tell me lots of family history and "gossip" that I never dreamed would have happened.  Funny, not ha-ha funny, how the small things you never thought about can be such joys as we grow older.

Janie, hope you day does fly and you get lots of smiles.

Amy, happy to hear you are getting some much needed rain.  My wife was talking to a friend in Boston last night and she was complaining about how dry it is there.  Surprised me, I thought the East coast was getting plenty of moisture.
Buy me a treat, pretty please, at the chocolate shop.

Joanie, thanks for the big breakfast.  You had to get up early to fix all that.

Jackie, hope you got a front row seat for the aid display.

Vanilla-Jackie

Halkel....
....no such luck, too far away in the distance.... yet could hear the sound in the distance as it made its journey towards there....Oh I did capture one photo of a plane, part circling, part dive bombing, but on camera you wouldn't be able to distinguish it from a plane to a bird, or even a fly....

JoanFL

I did my errands and then decided to take some time for myself.  I called a friend and we went out for a nice breakfast.

poor little GGD will be entering her first year in kindergarten next week with a broken arm.
They were here for two weeks but on Saturday left fly home to  Connecticut making a stop in Indianapolis to stay with friends over night. Had one of the jumping things in their yard. Side gave way and she fell out.spent night and a day in hospital but flew home Monday.
The twins were being separated in school as not to be so noticed but now little brother wants to be with her to take care .

Bis, Thought of the Day, is very inspiring. The world and all that it contains is a beautiful place. We make of it what we hope to see, a creation of God. The Master Builder, for sure.

I had a good nights sleep. Didn't want to get up this morning. But I did it anyway. Took a luke warm shower and felt more human again. Have had a light breakfast, made the bed, and ready to fall asleep again.

Hal, I would love to have a camera automatically take a movie of me some night, so I could view my sleep pattern. I must be very active, because I am sleepy again when I wake up. The mind is a strange organism, and seems to grow stranger with age.

Bis, I'm so glad I no longer have go "out". I do need a trip to the eye doctor, but Gary will do all the arrangements for that and transport me. I still find it very tiring though. Our day started out cloudy which I like but the sun is breaking through now.

I am impatiently awaiting my grocery delivery order. It is so handy to have easy to prepare food on hand for these very frequent days now that I just want, or need, to stay home.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

JeanneP--That's too bad that your great granddaughter broke her arm--guessing it was on a trampoline.  How sweet that twin brother now doesn't want to be in a different class--so he can take care of her.

June--I still do like to get out, even if it's a hassle.  Since I live alone, I don't see many people unless I venture out.  Now I hear my couch calling--will try to rest for about half an hour.

Phyllis, hold on!  Don't eat all those pastries until I get there to make the tomato soup.  I'll be right over!

As you can see, I'm home from work and it was a pretty good day.  Lots of nice people and the Freshman are coming into Bucknell University.  I do a sort of poll when they come through my line to see how far they've come.  I had a bunch of New Jerseys, a couple of NYCs, some NY State's and a few western and southern PAs.  Also had a Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia.  But my winner for today was Colorado.  My all time winner is Ethiopia!

Larry, I've heard that about the honey made closest to where you live is the best for you.  Our Farmers Market has a guy who has honey from about 8 miles away almost all year.  And it's from all different kinds of plants.  I've tried a couple but my favorite is still from clover.

Had my lunch, gave the doggies a snack and chased them out, and now I have to call Beverly.  I'll try to be back later.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

When I worked at the Alaska Bowl Company before retirement, we sold several different types of local honey. It has many health benefits, health, hair and cosmetically, but the best one, to me, was talking a daily tablespoon to help lessen or stop plant and tree allergies.

This would only work if you used honey that was produced ten miles or less of your location. It makes sense because who would need allergy protection from something not in your area?

I'm going downstairs in a half hour as someone from the University will be here at 11 am to discuss free senior classes available to us. You do not get college credit, just a certificate saying you attended and passed. I may take another class or two. I am only three credits short of a business Masters, but do not want to get back into that particular expensive rat race now!

I had a bit more luck with The Red Arrows...managed to take a couple of good photos as they flew overhead our back garden.....Links......

"Weeks like this, when walking outside feels like swimming through a wall of hot smells and airborne sweat, present a mystery for the 21st-century mind: How, in the days of yore â€" before refrigeration, before electric fans, before air-conditioning â€" did people make it through summer in New York?

The short answer is: A lot of them didn’t. Nearly 1,500 New Yorkers died during a heat wave in 1896, and nearly 700 fell victim to another one in 1901. Hot stretches are still a health hazard, particularly for the elderly and residents of poorer neighborhoods â€" there were roughly 600 heat deaths in the city each year between 2000 and 2006, and experts predict climate change will cause that number to soar in the coming decades â€" but the conveniences of modern life mean they’re not as dangerous as they used to be. Air conditioners became fixtures in public spaces in the 1930s and spread to private homes throughout the middle part of the 20th century. The risk of heat death has steadily dropped in conjunction with AC’s rise"

Jackie, you got some very sharp pictures of the Red Arrow planes.

I remember reading more than once about the many deaths in Chicago because of the heat - to people who were too poor to have fans or were afraid to go to shelters because of the fact someone might steal their meager possessions.  And I guess those types of people still exist in large cities where they are unnoticed until they die.  Probably also in smaller towns but more people know each other in smaller towns.
