Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's breakfast burritos to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Dinner Guests” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Sociology Class

In my sociology class, we were instructed to write down answers to some questions the teacher was asking.

"Next question," announced the instructor. "How would you like to be seen by the opposite sex?"

I was thinking about my answer when the young woman next to me turned and asked, "How do you spell 'intellectual?'"

Food For Thought
Look to Jesus

By John Kuperus
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 45:22-25

Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:22
Growing up in a Christian family in which his father was a minister, Charles Spurgeon reported that he thought highly of his own good character, but he eventually realized that he wasn’t truly convicted of his sin until he reflected on all he had been taught about the Ten Commandments. Sometime later, one Sunday in the 1850s, when Spurgeon was on his way to church in a snowstorm, he was unable to reach his church and decided to attend a Methodist chapel along the way. Only twelve people were there. No minister was present. Eventually a poor man went up to the pulpit, opened the Bible to Isaiah 45:22, and read, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth.”
Then, describing Jesus, the man preached, “Look unto me; I am hanging on the cross. Look: I am dead and buried. Look unto me; I rise again. Look unto me; I ascend; I am sitting at the Father’s right hand.” He went on for a few minutes till he noticed Charles, a stranger in the audience, and said, “Young man, you look very miserable. And you will always be miserable . . . if you do not obey the text. . . . Look to Jesus Christ. Look!”
A cloud lifted for Charles. He looked to Jesus, his heart was transformed, and he went on to become a remarkable preacher for the rest of his life.
It sounds so simple. But what Jesus had to do for us was incredibly difficult. It’s all about God’s unfailing love and grace. Will you look to Jesus?
Lord, we look to you, for salvation is from you and you alone. We praise you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought of the Day

Hi everyone on a beautiful Sunday morning here in South Carolina.  According to the forecast it is suppose to get to only 88 degrees today but we usually exceed the prediction by two or three degrees.  This will be a typical Sunday for me as am ready to go to Sunday School and Church.  I will bring something home for our main meal of the day and spend the rest of the day resting and quietly.

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day.  I did make the trip down to the church to deliver something to the ladies making the pillows and then went down to the cafe to see if any of the guys came there on Saturday for coffee.  I asked the waitress and she said they did not so I didn't stay.

June, I asked Pat if she had ever heard of the self threading needles and she had not.

JaneS, are you suppose to sweep under the refrigerator?  :)  The refrigerator with wheels on them make it much easier to do that job although it is not something fun to do.

Patricia, interesting information on the disclaimer at the end of movies.

Shirley, we sing the old and familiar hymns in our Sunday School class and most often in church.

Joan, I hope this is a special day for you as you celebrate your Birthday.  Happy Birthday.

I didn't make many comments today as need to read over my Sunday School lesson.  Be back tomorrow.

Slept so good last night and woke up to a cloudy day.  I hope it will rain just as much as we need and it will lower the temperature a little, too.

Be back later.....I think.

"The Week That Was" is done.

Great-niece was a delight to have as a house guest and I enjoyed getting to know her better.

Miss Ellen's parents/other grandmother/I went to Tulsa on Friday to see her in "Will Rogers Follies" that night - stayed overnight - and saw her in "Oklahoma" Saturday afternoon.
Both grandmothers shared a hotel room with mutual granddaughter Emily and her friend, who had driven over from OSU in Stillwater.  We laughed so hard we expected Emily's parents in the room next door to be knocking on the wall!
Ellen met all of us for brunch on Saturday.

"Ah'm plum tuckered out"!!! and am now going to hibernate until further notice....or, at least, until Tuesday.  ;)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning, started out as such a pleasant day.  Tried to set on the porch and read my paper and have my coffee, but a yellow jack would not leave me alone. then I felt something on my arm, it was a tiny black musquito. I had just finished reading in the paper that tiger mousquitos are on LI and the bite is dangerous.

Lloyd, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, i AM SORRY i AM A LITTLE LATE, BUT THE THOUGHTS ARE THE SAME.

DON, I THOUGHT OF YOU THIS AM, WHEN I WAS WATCHING CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING, AS THEY SHOWED A SANTA CLAUSE CONVENTION IN BRANSON, IT WAS VERY INTERESTING.  ONE MAN HAD BEEN PLAYING SANTA FOR 47 YEARS.

LARRY, I STILL LIKE THE OLD HYMMS NOW THEY HAVE STARTED USEING THE NEW BOOK, BUT EVERY ONCE IN THE WHILE THE PASTER AS WHAT HYMM WOULD YOU LIKE TO SING, WHEN THE SING IN THE GARDEN, IT ALWAYS BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES, AS THAT WAS MY MARKS FAVORITE.

MY NEIGHBOR WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL YESTERDAY, HE PASSED OUT IN THE SHOWER, AND WAS HAVING CONVULSIONS. TO DAY THE DOGS SAY HE HAD TAKEN TO MUCH IBUPTOFEN, FOR HIS BACK PAIN.  HE AND HIS WIFE ARE TWO OF MY NEIGHBORS THAT TAKE SUCH GOOD CARE OF ME.

wE HAVE PATRICIA BACK, I WILL BE GLAD TO SEE GLORIA POSTING AGAIN.

i AM GOING TO TRY TO GO OUTSIDE AND FIMISH MY READING. HUG TO ALL IN NEED

Linedancer--Good morning and thank you.  Those bees and mosquitoes are real pests.  Hopefully you were able to return to your porch and resume reading the paper.  That's too bad about your neighbor.

Joy--Yes, there is a freezer in the hidey hole.  I'll put cake and ice cream in there.

Thank you, Sandy.

I wish all refridgerators would be about 5 inch up from the floor. Could then clean more. I had wood floors put down last year and what a mess under mine when they moved it. I think that my last one was on small Wheels or casters . it was heavy moving but it would.  this on doesn't seem to have any on it. Hard to get behind it also. They say should clean coils back there.
Only place gets clean on mine in the tray under the bottom.
Quite nice here today. It was the Corn Festival Th. Fri.Sat.  Got rained out Th. Fri. Sat. was O.K after about 11am. To bad not on today.
I will head for Japan house and gardens soon. A big Japanese Festival there today. Always a big crowd.

Janie, I was surprised to hear you were working on Sunday, is this a first for you ? I hope you have a nice quiet restful evening at home now.

I went to Chapel services, came home, plopped down for a short rest...fell sound asleep for a solid hour. Had to rush downstairs to catch the lunch time that was still available, then home to change into comfy close and have the rest of the day to myself.
So I have been reading for several hours. Eyes are tired now. I was hoping to get some snail mail taken care of, so I will give it a try now.

A good Sunday Night HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

Another busy day that flew by.... I just can not seem to get everything done that I want and need to.

I apologize for a late greeting to you, JOAN, but at least I did manage to get one done for you on FB before your day was over.

Belated wishes to you, LLOYD.  So happy you got to go to,the lake and enjoy time with your family, but sorry you did not catch any fish.

JUNE, I, too, loved the food for thought message that Joan shared with us on Saturday.  I truly believe that is the case with many....they are doing their best to show love, but it may not be as much as one wants.  How sweet of your Dori to bring you flowers.

LARRY, I am happy that Pat seems to be showing some improvement.  Glad you are enjoying the view to watch the home being built across the street.  I bet it is interesting.

JACKIE, Patti and I talked about you and told her that you always wish her the best.  😍

BTW, news to me that there are self threading needles...I must check that out and see what you all are talking about.

JUNE, I remember Gert and her hubby Berge very well.  When we were in New York City last year I really thought about them and so wished that they were still with us and I could have met her in person.

I, too, thought of you today DON as I watched Sunday Morning and the Santa Claus Convention in Branson, MO.  I am sad that your lady has returned home, but I know that you both had a wonderful time while she was there with you.

We spent the afternoon and a BBQ dinner with Dr. Dave and Family.  Always feel blessed to be with them and enjoy it so much.  We will see them tomorrow afternoon as we are going to baby sit the two youngest kiddos as mom, dad and Matt go to a concert tomorrow night.  We will not see Dave as Michele and Matt will meet him at work and they will then go to the concert.

It is very late and I must get to bed....I am sorry that I did not comment to all of you, but so want you to know that I enjoy all,of your posts so much.

Pleasant dreams to all, and good morning to you, JACKIE.

Doctor Visit

A doctor has come to see one of his patients in a hospital. The patient has had major surgery to both of his hands.

"Doctor," says the man excitedly and dramatically holds up his heavily bandaged hands. "The nurse told me that I will be able to play the piano when these bandages come off?"

"I don't see why not," replies the doctor.

"Hmmm, then I better start learning how to read music."

Food For Thought

Report Cards
(by Randy Walker)

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ." - Paul the Apostle (2 Corinthians 5:10)

Report cards are good for making students nervous. I, too, received one from one of my sons when he was 13. It read:

"Dad's Report Card:

Love A
Patience A
Understanding A
Intelligence A
Sense of humor A
Helpfulness A
Kindness A
Wisdom A
Allowances C- "

It was a birthday card, the inside of which read: "Let's see if we can't bring that last grade up a bit, Dad!"

Jokes aside, I wonder if we wouldn't be better if we were regularly graded!

Whenever there is accountability with responsibility the results are usually more effective. For example, in ancient Rome when the scaffolding was removed from a completed Roman arch, the law required the engineer who built it to test its strength by standing beneath it.

The engineer knew his life depended on the quality of his work. Thus, it is no accident that Roman arches have survived for hundreds of years!

Perhaps it would be wise to remind ourselves that each of us is accountable and eventually will stand before God to give an account of how we have lived and served God while here on earth. May each of us hear the Savior say, "Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord."

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, help me to choose and do my works in such a way that when they are tested they won't burn up as wood, hay and stubble, but will be, by your grace, as pure gold. Gratefully in Jesus' name, Amen."

Thought of the Day

"Sooner or later we must leave our dream world and face up to the facts of God, sin, and judgment. The Bible says, 'All have sinned and come short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23)."

- Billy Graham

Another muggy day in the making here. I am off to the city today, taking a friend in to her cardiologist for her check up. Then we will do a bit of shopping, I know two fabric places we will be sorely tempted!!

No word from Gloria yet?? My gosh this has to be so frustrating for her.

Joan, glad you had a happy birthday and thank you for breakfast. The smell of bacon should bring Jackie running

As I sit here typing I am listening to the lonesome call of the loon on the lake......soon they too will be gone south.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night than I have in months.  I went to bed a bit early and I woke up at 10 of 6 with no bad moments in between and I didn't dream.  I think it's the dreams that make me wake up tired.  Sometimes I wonder what a psychologist would make of them.  Other times, I think I don't want to know the answer to that.

It was down in the high 60s overnight and going up to 90 by 3 p.m. today.  What a range in temperature.  I don't remember such ranges in the past.  I remember it being so hot we couldn't sleep properly.  Then so hot that we needed the A/C on all night.

I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day full of the things you like best.  I know Amy will.  She's going to the fabric stores.  I'm calling a new groomer and hopefully, getting an appointment for the "shaggy dogs".

Make it a good one!

P.S. Jackie, Everyone can "run" on here!

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  Amy was right.  The smell of bacon had you hustling.

Good morning, Janie.  I am glad you slept so well.  Your darling dogs will be even more beautiful after their grooming.

Each year I am hired to go to Washington, DC, with the eighth grade class from Clinton, Wisconsin where I grew up, to videotape their trip.  I greatly enjoy visiting our nation's capitol, and each year I take some special memories back with me.  This fall's trip was especially memorable.

On the last night of our trip, we stopped at the Iwo Jima memorial.  This memorial is the largest bronze statue in the world and depicts one of the most famous photographs in history---that of the six brave soldiers raising the American Flag at the top of a rocky hill on the island of Iwo Jima, Japan, during WW II.

Over one hundred students and chaperones piled off the buses and headed towards the memorial.  I noticed a solitary figure at the base of the statue, and as I got closer he asked, 'Where are you guys from?'

I told him that we were from Wisconsin.  'Hey, I'm a cheese head, too!  Come gather around, Cheese heads, and I will tell you a story.'

It was James Bradley who just happened to be in Washington, DC, to speak at the memorial the following day.  He was there that night to say good night to his dad, who had passed away.  He was just about to leave when he saw the buses pull up.  I videotaped him as he spoke to us, and received his permission to share what he said from my videotape.  It is one thing to tour the incredible monuments filled with history in Washington, DC, but it is quite another to get the kind of insight we received that night.

When all had gathered around, he reverently began to speak.  (Here are his words that night.)

'My name is James Bradley and I'm from Antigo, Wisconsin.  My dad is on that statue, and I wrote a book called 'Flags of Our Fathers'. It is the story of the six boys you see behind me.

'Six boys raised the flag.  The first guy putting the pole in the ground is Harlon Block.  Harlon was an all-state football player.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps with all the senior members of his football team.  They were off to play another type of game.  A game called 'War.'  But it didn't turn out to be a game.  Harlon, at the age of 21, died with his intestines in his hands.  I don't say that to gross you out, I say that because there are people who stand in front of this statue and talk about the glory of war.  You guys need to know that most of the boys in Iwo Jima were 17, 18, and 19 years old---and it was so hard that the ones who did make it home never even would talk to their families about it.

(He pointed to the statue)  'You see this next guy?  That's Rene Gagnon from New Hampshire.  If you took Rene's helmet off at the moment this photo was taken and looked in the webbing of that helmet, you would find a photograph...a photograph of his girlfriend Rene put that in there for protection because he was scared.  He was 18 years old.  It was just boys who won the battle of Iwo Jima. Boys.  Not old men.

'The next guy here, the third guy in this tableau, was Sergeant Mike Strank.  Mike is my hero.  He was the hero of all these guys.  They called him the 'old man' because he was so old.  He was already 24.  When Mike would motivate his boys in training camp, he didn't say, 'Let's go kill some Japanese' or 'Let's die for our country'.  He knew he was talking to little boys...Instead he would say, 'You do what I say, and I'll get you home to your mothers.'

'The last guy on this side of the statue is Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian from Arizona.  Ira Hayes was one of them who lived to walk off Iwo Jima.  He went into the White House with my dad.  President Truman told him, 'You're a hero'.  He told reporters, 'How can I feel like a hero when 250 of my buddies hit the island with me and only 27 of us walked off alive?'  So, you take your class at school, 250 of you spending a year together having fun, doing everything together.  Then all 250 of you hit the beach, but only 27 of your classmates walk off alive.  That was Ira Hayes.  He had images of horror in his mind.  Ira Hayes carried the pain home with him and eventually died dead drunk, face down, drowned in a very shallow puddle, at the age of 32 (ten years after this picture was taken).

'The next guy, going around the statue, is Franklin Sousley from Hilltop, Kentucky.  A fun-lovin' hillbilly boy.  His best friend, who is now 70, told me, 'Yeah, you know, we took two cows up on the porch of the Hilltop General Store.  Then we strung wire across the stairs so the cows couldn't get down.  Then we fed them Epsom salts.  Those cows crapped all night.'  Yes, he was a fun-lovin' hillbilly boy.  Franklin died on Iwo Jima at the age of 19.  When the telegram came to tell his mother that he was dead, it went to the Hilltop General Store.  A barefoot boy ran that telegram up to his mother's farm.  The neighbors could hear her scream all night and into the morning.  Those neighbors lived a quarter of a mile away.

'The next guy, as we continue to go around the statue, is my dad, John Bradley, from Antigo, Wisconsin, where I was raised.  My dad lived until 1994, but he would never give interviews.  When Walter Cronkite's producers or the New York Times would call, we were trained as little kids to say, 'No, I'm sorry, sir, my dad's not here.  He is in Canada fishing.  No, there is no phone there, sir.  No, we don't know when he is coming back.'  My dad never fished or even went to Canada.  Usually, he was sitting there right at the table eating his Campbell's soup.  But we had to tell the press that he was out fishing.  He didn't want to talk to the press.

'You see, like Ira Hayes, my dad didn't see himself as a hero.  Everyone thinks these guys are heroes, 'cause they are in a photo and on a monument.  My dad knew better.  He was a medic.  John Bradley from Wisconsin was a combat caregiver.  On Iwo Jima he probably held over 200 boys as they died.  And when boys died on Iwo Jima, they writhed and screamed, without any medication or help with the pain.

'When I was a little boy, my third grade teacher told me that my dad was a hero.  When I went home and told my dad that, he looked at me and said, 'I want you always to remember that the heroes of Iwo Jima are the guys who did not come back.  Did NOT Come Back.'
'So that's the story about six nice young boys.  Three died on Iwo Jima, and three came back as national heroes.  Overall, 7,000 boys died on Iwo Jima in the worst battle in the history of the Marine Corps.  My voice is giving out, so I will end here.  Thank you for your time.'

Suddenly, the monument wasn't just a big old piece of metal with a flag sticking out of the top.  It came to life before our eyes with the heartfelt words of a son who did indeed have a father who was a hero.  Maybe not a hero for the reasons most people would believe, but a hero nonetheless.

One thing I learned while on tour with my 8th grade students in DC that is not mentioned here is...that if you look at the statue very closely and count the number of 'hands' raising the flag, there are 13.  When the man who made the statue was asked why there were 13, he simply said the 13th hand was the hand of God.

Great story - worth your time - worth every American's time.  Please, pass it on.

Good Morning Everyone!

Kinda cloudy here this morning.   They say possible t=storms this afternoon, but they said they same yesterday.  Nada......

Amy where do you store all the fabric?  80 percent off, gosh do you wonder how much markup is on fabric?  Enjoy.  I know I love going to hardware stores, can buy everything I see, but boy I can dream.

PT this morning, going to be another busy week.

Lloyd, look at it this way, at least you didn't have to clean those nasty things.....

Janie, glad you had a good nights rest.

Joanie, hope your day goes well.

Jackie, I'll join you having some of that bacon.  I like mine just before it gets crisp, chewy, but no raw fat.

Coffee ready, who wants a cup.

Today will be back to the usual and that will be welcome after a busy last couple of weeks.  It is laundry day and I'll be waltzing with the washer and dryer.  I won't even have to cook.  I felt like cooking yesterday so fixed a nice beef roast with Yukon potatoes and stewed tomatoes and zucchini and salty caramel lava cupcakes for dessert.  There were leftovers and all I need to do is reheat.  Easy-Peasy.

Hope it will be a good day for everyone.

Gloria just called.  Her computer went back to HP last Thursday for them to put a new hard drive in it.  She expects it back Thurs. or Fri.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Thanks for the story.

halkel--Good morning.  We just had a shower--it last 5 minutes.:(

Good morning, Phyllis.  You sure did a lot of cooking yesterday.  If you have leftovers today, how about sticking them in the "hidey hole"?

Bubble and I met "Hank Williams" and "Patsy Cline" who, if you don't know, were famous Country Music singers in the fifties. It was a cabaret show and Bubble loved it.  Pics in the photo forum.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another hot and dry day here.

Yesterday was a very nice day.  Our minister gave a very good message on being humble.  Our advancing third graders were given Bibles during the church service.  Each was given a children Bible with the pictures and stories and a regular Bible for when they outgrow the children's Bible.

Today is going to be a full one.  I left a little before 8 am this morning to go to our GP's office to pick up another sample inhaler for Pat.  A prescription for the medicine has been submitted to the CVS/Caremart mail order pharmacy but it takes several days on a new prescription.  She has been without the inhaler for several days now and is really noticing the difference.  There is a Walmart across the road from the doctor's office so I went to the pharmacy there to get Pat some needed she items.  Then I have my noon meeting and finally Pat has a 4 pm chiropractor appointment.  I also have to get things ready for our dinner tonight.  I plan on having tilapia and a vegetable salad or or regular salad and I am not sure what else at this point.  I have already completed the morning chores and just now fixed Pat's breakfast.

deAngel, "In the Garden" was my mother's favorite hymn and it was sung at her funeral.

Lloyd, at least you had the enjoyment of fishing without the resulting work of cleaning the fish.

Joan, I really liked the "Food for Thought" for today and have copied it and may use it as a devotional in our Sunday School class. I am glad to hear that Gloria was finally able to send her computer back for a new hard drive.

Amy, hope you find (or will have found) some good bargains in the two fabric places.

Hal, in our other house Pat had fabric stored all over the house in different places.  I think here she has pretty much accumulated it in her sewing room walk-in-closet.

Well we all no now that bacon is the magic word.... ;)

Have some body aches and pains today, had some yesterday but today is worse....Its my right rib-cage side, and centre back....slightly hurts when I take deep breaths in, and when I bend in certain positions...I am sure it was caused by how I lay in bed, I am sure come tomorrow it will ease and clear as quick as it came....

Tomorrow it is back to reality, taking our Benji for his monthly vet appointment..we both know what to expect, the cancer to have grown as vet told us that one sign will be,  " depending on which way the lump is growing..." that Benjis toilet will take on a flat and curved shape....which is it doing now, so in time Benji wont be able to get his toilet out, then that will be near to his time....at the moment Benji is still Benji, oblivious to anything going on with his body...we of course are living life on a time-bomb....

Well its our last Bank Holiday weekend of the Summer year, and I haven't been anywhere outside the home.....our weather is pleasantly warm and sunny....Hoping someday this week we will take the dogs back to Lodmoor Country Park for another dog walk....I promised that to Benji....

Larry, I think you'll find that when you pick up Pat's inhaler you will be paying considerably more than it used to cost.  My doctor renewed my Rx for Proventil inhaler and when I went to pick it up from the pharmacy the cost was 90.00 for one inhaler.  And on top of that, my Rx insurance company had dropped it from their formulary (probably because the price had gone up so much) so the entire cost would be out of my pocket.  The druggist said, "Wait a minute before you pay that." Then he did some searching for another manufacturer's price and found the same albuterol inhaler made by another company for 50.00!  He saved me quite a bit of money out of pocket.  I was very grateful he went that extra step for me.

Don't get me started on what I think of these drug manufacturers and the insurance companies that are supposed to help us pay for these drugs.  :angry2:

Re drugs in UK, we are lucky as seniors as we get free prescriptions, but as other more important drugs go, that have been given the all clear, that becomes a " postcode Lottery " re, depending on where you live in UK, you will either be able to receive a particular " life saving " drug, or you wont.....it wont be available to everyone...

Vanilla-Jackie--Hope your pains ease and that Benji is comfortable.

Good Monday Morning dear friends,

I am surprised to find myself in here by nine o'clock. I woke at six, did all the usual readings and a hymn, then on to the body exercises and massage of legs and feet…my hands are growing very strong since they work so hard for me now. I was introduced to a doctor recently and shook his hand, and he commented that I had a good strong grip. So beware of greeting June Drabek….she's fierce.

Janie, I think dreams are very interesting. I read once upon a time that we need to dream to release our concerns and worries. I used to dream every single night, but rarely remember a dream now, darn, enjoyed analyzing those dreams I had.

Hal, I am on my second cup of coffee now. Had a sweet roll and a bowl of fresh fruit for breakfast. mid morning I will have my bottle of ensure..that gives me needed energy.

Bis,thanks for the news on Gloria. I think they should have sent her a brand new computer that works. That is what she paid for, not a repaired one.

Don, I am going to Photos as soon as I finish here. Thank you for the heads up.

Larry, I read years back from a statement by a fellow Christian, name of Watchman Nee, the following. "Humility is not so much looking down on ones self as it is not looking at Self at all." I like that.

Time to get my bed made, dressed in "walking" clothes, and go take a stroll outside. see you all later. June

Good morning!

I am hesitant to say this, but I do not think another new computer will help Gloria. I went through that with a lemon of a Gateway.

Each time they send a new computer, it is calibrated to the original one sent. So if you have an original error in the hard drive, each one they send you will also have that mistake.

They are not going to send you a newly redone computer, but one calibrated exactly as the original.

Dreams.....I had the best dream through last night I have ever had.....I hugged my late mother.....I spotted my mother walking with another lady, the place was outside somewhere and quite crowded, I walked up an escalator, moving stairs and called out mom, she never heard, carried on walking and talking to a lady who was with her....I called out to people..." stop that lady, she is my mom, and I haven't seen her for a long time..." she must of heard, then I hugged her and told her I hadn't seen her for a long time...think she just said.." I know "....think I also asked who the other lady was, asking if she was a a family member, only to be told, no she is a friend....Mom was easily recognisable as my mother, but she was dressing slightly more elegant and oozed more confidence, didn't seem the timid quiet mom I knew, but she was my mom and looked like my mom....

I lost my mother must be 38 - 39 years ago...my mother was 61, I was 26 -27....

Radioman Don:  When will you plan on seeing Bubble?  She looks so upbeat and writes the same way.  I wish you the best.

I am trying to use up a lot of my fabric stash and putting a binding (edge) on a flannel quilt.  Don is at the VA for an appointment and tomorrow I will have to drive him there - we detest the heavy traffic that is everywhere now.

Oh, one more thing that happened this week.  Some women walked topless in Denver - to protest there is no gender equality.

There is nothing more I can write.  It is beyond my thought process - my family is full of women making terrific salaries and great jobs - I don't know how going topless will change anything - it just makes me wonder about the guys watching the parade.  And, the parade was held in the tourist area that is always in the news for criminal activity.

Carol, does one ever catch up on using their stash???

Joan ,those women do not have any pride in themselves.

I'm tired. This has been a long day. Gary arranged with my clinic that I see the audiologist that will be here tomorrow. I went down today to have my B.P. taken, since my ears were both blocking up, where my voice would echo back to me....very, very annoying to say the least. It is not a constant problem but on and off for several years now. Thinking it may be just another side issue of my irregular B.P. I had it taken..it was fine. So that all developed between the clinic and Gary, that I would see this specialist tomorrow. Gary plans to be here and handle everything, but there is no definite appt. time. So I sit and ponder about what a dumb blob I have turned into. Believe me, I am ever grateful to have a son that cares so much for me that he takes up his valuable time from his Church, but I do feel like a useless blob. Gary does SO much for me. He has always been a good son, from the day he was born. Whew.......I am over whelmed.

Also, June, you are NOT dumb!  I sometimes wonder aloud if I'm dumb and my daughter hastens to tell me that compared to many of the old folks she calls on, I'm NOT dumb.  And my son still trusts me to cart his daughter around and look after her needs.  So, while technology still dumfounds me sometimes, I guess my brain is still working.

I'm only picking Kiran up at the bus stop 2 days a week (the two days that I don't work at WM).  Hopefully, that will make me less tired and less short with her and we can enjoy one another's company.  We're going through the books and toys that she has at my house and we have a give-away pile and a save-them pile.  I have to make another trip through the give-aways to make sure nothing special goes.  Then I'll take them to a young mother at work who has a three year old daughter who LOVES books.

I'm off to Dreamland!  I wish you all a peaceful night and may God bless us, Every One!

CHUCKLES

Frazzled Cashier

I was checking out at the busy super market, and the cashier was having problems. The register ran out of paper, the scanner malfunctioned, and finally the cashier spilled a handful of coins. When she totaled my order, it came to exactly $22.

Trying to soothe her nerves, I said, "That's a nice round figure."

Still frazzled, she glared at me and said, "You're no bean pole yourself."

Food For Thought

Christians in a Hostile World

By John Kuperus
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:9-12

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2:12
In the first century A.D. there were many persecutions of Christiansâ€"and persecution has continued to follow believers in Christ at many times and in many places ever since. Today we still hear of persecution, especially in societies where it is seen as unacceptable or even illegal to confess your faith in Jesus Christ.
The apostle Peter wrote a letter to persecuted believers in the Roman Empire around A.D. 60-64, and these words still ring true for us today: “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”
Christians march to a different beat than do people who do not follow Christ. In the first century, Christians confessed Jesus Christ as their Lord, not Caesar. Husbands treated their wives with dignity, respect, and faithfulness. Baby girls were not abandoned (as was the Roman custom), and Christians took in abandoned babies as their own. When epidemics struck, believers stayed in the cities to help care for their own families and others, at the risk of their own lives. God was glorified. Believers made God look good, and the world noticed.
The world needs this testimony today as well. Does your behavior make God look good?
Father, we want to reflect you in all we do. Thank you for sending your Son into this sin-broken world to give us life. Use our lives to continue to reflect your heart. Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend and a special Good Morning to you Joanie.  I got awake and couldn't go back to sleep so I'm up and attem a little early this morning.

My only plan so far for the day is to be behind the counter at WM by 9 a.m.  Other than that, I'll just see what transpires.

The temp. was 68º when I got up and it's only supposed to get up to 80 today.  I checked ahead and summer isn't over yet.  This time next week we'll be back into the 90s.  In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the break.

Have a good day, Everyfriend.

Good Tuesday, almost mid day here.....

I am awaiting dog food delivery, I have a tracker that show me exactly where the driver is, what number customer he is at, what number customer I am, tracker also tells me how long or soon, in time, delivery driver should be in reaching me, driver has often turned up sooner or somewhere in the middle of my delivery time slot.....Must be terrible for these drivers knowing their every move is being monitored by their customers, as I can see on the map just where driver is at...

Today is Benji vet monitoring day, we have 2 & a half hours before appointment, I will need to leave a note on the door incase dogfood delivery comes when we are out, letting him know where to leave it.......R is out doing a shop for himself, then he will take dogs for their walk, a tad later than usual...Oh R has just walked in the front door.....

Other than this nothing else on my today's agenda....just as well really as my body is still not up to much, re, my right ribcage and back, not forgetting my walking, its as if nerves are doing a dance in my top of leg...

I just have to put in my thoughts, June.  I sometimes feel the way that you do when the modern world seems to overwhelm me.  Everyone "out there" thinks too fast, moves and talks too fast, and all of this technology comes along that I just can't seem to figure out sometimes.  I feel dumb and left behind.  But you and I (all of us of comparable age) are definitely NOT dumb.  What we are is experienced and wise.  We've seen a lot in our lifetime and dealt with all of it and survived.  For many years we have raised families and made decisions and lived decent lives just doing the best we can.  Now, at this stage it is all right to let our children help us.  It's their turn to take care of us when we need help and even though they lead busy lives you know that they do it lovingly.  And, all of us here have come to know what a valuable human being you are and we love you.

Good Morning  from the sunny and warm,
rocky coast of Maine.

I spent most of yesterday getting my phone set up...
Actually,  getting everything but the phone set up,
as the phone part I will get started after the first of
the month.

But using Wifi,  I can use just about everything
phone and text.

The camera is going to be great once I
get the hang of how to use it!

Here is a picture of the Orchids that I wintered over
this year.     (This is the second time that they bloomed)

Have a good day,  Everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!

PHYLLIS, yesterday was a prime day to illustrate of what you spoke of.  I came back from PT and was informed that the kitchen sink was stopped up on the disposal side of the sink.  Wife had put a bag of old salad makings down it.  It shouldn't have stopped it up, but it did.  I got the plunger out and I couldn't move it.  Told the wife I would call Steve, my son-in-law, who lives close by.  Upset my wife cause seems to be prone to stopped up sinks.  Steve came right away and within two minutes had it clear and running.  It is enough to make you feel useless not being able to unstop a sink and dumb for causing the stoppage to begin with.

But we will make it up to them with a nice dinner when we go out to eat in the near future.  Like you said, we have made thousands of decisions, nursed many
bruises and sicknesses.  And guess what, we are still learning from each other and our young folk.

Boy, that is a lot of words to just say "I agree".

Sandy, beautiful picture and flowers.  Takes sharp pictures.

Who wants coffee, it's ready.  See I can still turn to pot on.... ;D

Hi everyone.  It looks like it will be a nice day and not quite as hot, although will be in the low 90's this afternoon.  We had just a brief sprinkle yesterday afternoon at the time I took Pat for her chiropractic appointment.  Of course, it all dried up completely.

Yesterday really got to me and by evening I was really tired.  Then when I started to make dinner I discovered that when Pat had moved her hummingbird feeder over from the island in the kitchen to the sink some remaining sugar water had spilled out on the floor.  What a mess and by the time I got that cleaned up I had to put dinner off for awhile so I could recover from all the bending over.  For some reason bending over really gets to me.  I went to bed shortly after dinner and had 10 hours of sleep and rest and feel refreshed to begin the new day.

Today I plan a quieter day.  I have a 10:15 appointment with my cardiologist as a followup to changing the medicine.  Of course with the mix-up with the mail order pharmacy I haven't been taking the medicine for the last 9 days.  On the way back home I will go by Aldi's for some vegetables and fruit and a couple of other things we need.  Then we plan on going to lunch at Ruby Tuesday's.  We got another of the buy one and get one free coupons that is good only today but you have to dine in.  I am not sure Pat is going to feel up to going out to eat so I may have to  cook after all. I already fixed her scrambled eggs with bacon bits, green onion and cheese breakfast.

Phyllis, I checked and it is cheaper to have Pat's inhaler prescription filled by the mail order pharmacy than at Walmart, where we get most of our prescriptions filled.  She has only been using the inhaler for a couple of months. So far our insurance covers some of the cost.

Joan, these huge increases on medicines already being marketed is highway robbery and when they find they can get away with it I am sure more huge increases will be on the way.

Jackie, nice dream and glad it was pleasant for your.

Amy, I just told Pat your story about your fabric insulating your house and she had a good laugh and agrees with you.

June, I am sure your son is happy to be able to help you when he can and as much as he can.  As Hal said we love you and you contribute a lot to these discussions.

Vanilla-Jackie--It's nice when deliveries arrive as promised.

Good morning, Sandy.  Beautiful orchids.

halkel--Good morning. Some days things just don't go right.  Lucky you to have a SIL nearby who can fix things.  I'll have some of that coffee.

Good morning, Callie.  I hope you have a lovely day.

Larry--Good morning.  That hummingbird mixture sure is sticky.  Guess your cardiologist won't be able to make an accurate assessment since you haven't had the new medicine for the last 9 days.  I'm fearful that these huge increases in the cost of prescriptions will make me have to decide whether to buy them or buy food.

To those who feel inadequate at times (and I am one of them) - I had a friend whose greatest talent was making friends.  There wasn't a person she didn't like - or who didn't like her.  I used to help her with her income tax and she would tell me, "you're so smart, you know how to use a computer".  I'd tell her that we all have talents and hers was making friends.  I wished and wish I had that ability.  Different talents!

My friend passed away in 2012 and I still miss her.  We knew each other from the time we were four years old.

SANDY....
....I have never had any luck with Orchids......I remember a holiday many years ago, Devon, visiting an Orchid Nursery......we purchased a couple of Orchids, not in flower, and watered them as we were told by the experts...sadly neither flowered or ever opened up.....
..............................
Back from the vets, at least we get to take Benji to the vast greenery at the back, even I enjoy sitting on the bench and admiring the faraway view.......Benji was let off lead and seemed in his element, at one point I could see he was looking for me, then came running towards where I was sitting....I find it so very peaceful at this place, other dog walkers are around but their is quite a vast place to dog walk.....When we were leaving to come back to the car, I spoke to an elderly lady in a motorised buggy, she had two small Jack Russell - terrier type dogs with her running along side of her..... she was in her buggy which had  basket on the front....I spoke to her and made conversation, then she gathered up her two dogs, one was a tad on the stubborn side but it was funny how she scooped up dog number one and placed it on her lap, dog number two it took it a bit longer but dog two she scooped into her basket and off they went....this must have been an everyday thing......I did find out from this lady that she was in her buggy because she suffered with arthritis....

As expected Benjis lump has grown, he flinched a little as vet checked his anal gland, but never yelped, he is so good at the vets, such a good boy who allows vet to do what he needs to do.......Vet also took another blood test, re, his kidneys.....vet will phone the result through later today, our app, was 2pm, it is now 4.55pm....depending on this result, if it hasn't changed much since last month, we can give Benji some treats...I had broached on this subject with vet at how hard it was to deny Benji treats, he said he fully understood but its for his own good....but if his kidney result will allow, vet said we can give him some treats, as it may now be that the cancer will take Benji before his kidneys pack up......Oh and strangely we put Benji on the scales to be weighed but their scales fluctuate so much so cant get an accurate weight but...I explained this to vet so he took us all back out and put him on the scales himself....his weight has gone UP, but this is the specialised prescription diet he has been put on, it is to bulk him up...of course I said, " oh, should I now cut his food down.." vet laughed and said NO, continue.... giving us the full reason as to why.... followed by, " it is not often I tell my patients to do that, it is rather the opposite, to cut their food down, " well I laughed too...... I told vet Benji eats all his food but is getting a tad bored with the same old flavour so vet came to reception desk with us, went out the back, then came back, spoke to reception desk with another suggestion of suitable food for his purpose, ( Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal, ) as well as his Hills Prescription Diet....R is to go back tomorrow to pick the food tins up, they have to get it in stock, if its not already in stock....

Good Morining all. A new day, and with all the loving support I get from you dear friends, I feel like a new woman today. Ready to trust my own judgement. Thank you, to Beverly and Jackie..I just now read your messages from last night. God Bless you both for your kindness.

Phyllis, you bring tears to my eyes. I am sorry that I treated myself so meanly, you and the others have given me good reason to be appreciative of what I have, and thankful that God puts up with my foolishness at times. We all have so much value, we cannot deny or deride what God has given us as individuals, and the support I received from all of you here, is proof of your goodness and kindness and love. Thank you.

Sandy, beautiful photography and very beautiful and unusual orchids. Congratulations girl !!

Hal, it is so beautiful to read the kindness and goodness of our friends here. So much shared wisdom, it is a real gift. My eyes are getting a good wash this morning.

Larry, I feel you are doing too much my friend. You are not well yourself, so you must accept the fact that at your condition of health, you are taking serious chances of ending up sick in bed.
Please give serious thought of having a care giver come in daily to help you cope with the duties. Home Instead is a good reliable place to start.

Mary Ann, we are never to old to learn our own values and appreciate what we CAN do, and accept the fact that there are many things we cannot do. You have been such a good family oriented lady. Now it is time for you and I to sit back and enjoy those things we can do.

Jackie, I am so happy to hear that your Benji is still doing o.k. and can enjoy the outings. I hope that you too will feel better physically, so you can enjoy your life with the doggies.

Mary Ann--We all have differing special talents.  What a boring world it would be if we were all exactly alike.

Vanilla-Jackie--I'd say things were going well with Benji.  Now he can have treats and some special food he may like better and is specific to his  problem.

June--Any special events on your agenda today?

JOAN....we are just going month to month, we - I have no clue as to whether we shall make it to next month....R, or I, will book his next app tomorrow, once vet phones through his kidney blood test result this evening, we only have half hour surgery time left....R will ask him if thats what he wants us to do, or whether to see him earlier, or anything else he might have in mind.....

Wow!  Sandy, is that photo taken with your phone cam????  It is gorgeous!  Beautiful way you captured it, shows so many colors & even the veins.... the flower is beautiful but your photo is spectacular!

June, hope your trip to the audiologist turned out making you feel a lot better about life.  My brother (be 91 in Sept) was all out of sorts last year when we were together, was dreading a trip to the ear doctor.  Turned out his ears were just plugged up with wax, has been a different person since because he actually hears everything going on & not guessing!!!  He had not realized how bad they had gotten so was feeling very "out of touch".  Since the ear doctor wasn't selling hearing aids, he wasn't pushed into buying one he didn't want.  As all in here have said, "we love you & think you are one sharp lady!"

And now MY good news.  Maybe I told you but didn't find a post from me that I did..... #1 son came over with the door to the frig (RV) yesterday, he found a site on the internet where a guy from CA was ranting about the door to his new unit falling off (like mine) on his FIRST trip out.  Man online is a machinist so when he got home he came up with a bracket that should have been part of the frig when made by Norcold.  He gave dimensions & even a video on uTube showing how to.  My son had the blank metal on hand & all the tools to make the bracket... and it fit like a glove when he mounted the door back on the frig hinge.  I am SO pleased I am just giddy.  Got the tires taken care of & now the frig, gassed up and waiting to go.  Have all the family to be here over the holiday so will bide my time.  Patience is not one of my strong points.

Mary Ann, I know how you feel about your friend being gone.  I had one I met in first grade and another that I met my in high school, miss them so much.   Sometimes we only caught up with each other once a year but we could pick up the conversation like it was yesterday.  Both are gone & nobody knows the past that we shared.  Maybe we need to write a children's book in hopes they will understand just how special friends can be for the rest of your life.  Make a short story about one fun day, one happy moment shared and being connected forever.

Jackie, glad you are doing okay after the fall, and that Benji is still enjoying life.  You get out & about more than anyone I know... with dogs & doctor visits.  I am a basket case just getting my car across town to the dealer for an oil change & then meeting a friend to go through the new Small Oil Painting Show.  I'm such a stick in the mud my trips are for groceries or to get the cats a rotisserie chicken, & don't do much of anything else.  Love hearing about all your walks on the beach & parks.

Lloyd, Larry & Hal, your wives are lucky you are so handy around the house.  I know Don is a wonderful cook so will be a fun "side-kick" for Bubble.... My husband's claim to fame was he loved to eat!  I do a lot of drive thru & carry out, rather eat at home than alone in a restaurant. Life is constantly changing, might as well be happy with what each day offers.

Better get moving, noon means lunch time & do something right.... tried to trim with the weed whip & it quit so, so far my day has been a bust!

Good afternoon, so far a beautiful day, and do not need the A/C going

First I am going to say, I am looking foreward to hearing from Gloria again.  I join everyone in saying she should have got a new PC

Phyllis, We all agree with you. One of my big problems is hearing, when the person talks so fast. That is one reason, I have to take someone with me when i go to the doctors.

Sandy, those flowers are beautiul

MaryAnn, I use to call my old friends MudPie friends.

Jackie, glad to read that Benji can still enjoy his life

June, as i always say, you make people feel good, with your words

Joan, glad you got one day, with what you call cool weather

Bis, my special event of the day was the visit with the audiologist. A very nice young lady, that did a lot of special testing. I was with her close to two hours. Of course she sells hearing aids, and of course she said I needed them, and of course I told her NO.  So for 75 dollars I learned that I am getting hard of hearing. To my own estimation, I hear everything very well with the exception of being in a crowded dining room, then it seems everyones voice is too soft. So I will live with that. I will depend on friends and family that tell me I need help.

Tsie my note to Bis, tells of my hearing problem. I did have clear ears…no wax build up. What a great son you have, to have found what the door problem was and was able to repair it !!! We are both blessed with great sons.

Bis, I have 3  more things on my to-do list, but I'm going to skip the writing class this week, but will go to the Food Committee class that I joined at two p.m. and on to balance and mobility exercises at 2:45. And that's enough for this day. I just finished my daily bottle of Ensure, so hopefully have replaced some of the energy I used with the audiologist. Right now I need a short lay down before I travel down for lunch.

Gloria de......big Hugs to you girl. Life is good !!

I made it through another morning behind the counter.  It started slow but got busy in a hurry.  I started on an express lane but after break, I had a longer lane and it's very tiring when you never stop and there are all big orders.

Oh well, I'm going to pursue a few zzzs since I don't pick up TLH on the days I work.  I think I'm going to like this system.  And if someone is ill, my schedule will allow me to fill in if necessary.

Sandy, gorgeous photo!  I've taken lots of pics with my smart phone but I can't figure out how to get them off the phone and somewhere that anyone but me will see them.  Maybe your phone is smarter than mine.  (Or maybe it's the bug behind the shutter.)

I wasn't home very long when my neighbor called to ask me if I like sausage.  When I said "yes", he told me he was bringing me some.  It seems his brother (the one that grew the corn he brought me) butchered and he helped so he came home with a pile of sausage.  He brought me enough to have for several meals.  And he offered me a package of ponhaus, if you've heard of it at all, you probably know it as scrapple but my grandfather was German and it was always ponhaus when we were growing up.  At first I turned him down and then I decided it's time to try it again.  I don't think I've had any of it since my uncle stopped butchering on my grandparents farm and that was probably 50 years ago.  I wonder if I'll like it now.  I'll report back after I try it!

Good morning everyone! It is another bright, shiny sunny day in the Interior and Farrah is busy attacking her paper bag, so all is well here.

Jane, we used to have scrapple all the time growing up, and it was always on Diner restaurant menus here along with either bacon or ham. My dad was an old Missouri farm boy, and mom was from Kansas and then Colorado farms, so it was often served. I haven't had any probably since I left home but there are several farms around here, so I suspect it is still popular.

June, we all have those days when we think of what was and not what we can offer today. Sometimes we need time to mourn what was and then we realize what we have now is good and can be happy with ourselves again.

There is still more time just to be and hopefully still learning from ourselves and being with others who need us too. Life is precious, and now we can set back and accept from others that we can no longer do ourselves.

Thanks for the "Hurrah!", Joan... maybe I can quit whining for a while, you think?

Oh, Jane.... I am SO happy to find someone else that can't get their photos off the phone!  That doesn't sound right.... I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't get photos off the phone.    I keep telling myself that I will work on it but somehow, that time doesn't come.

June, nice to know what we deal with, for sure, and glad you are strong enough to do what YOU want!  I read about my tinnitus & decided not to question, it is what it is & I've handled it for years, I don't want a lot of tests or pills.  Now & then I listen, sounds like a whole tree full of those fall "katy-dids" as we used to call them.  I can live with that & when I want to listen to something else, I just put the ear buds in my ears & listen to the old '40s & '50s music, works for me.  Some cases lead to hearing loss but will deal with that if & when!

You are an inspiration, all of you in your early 90s... to all of us in our early 80s!  You give us hope. Steamy outside here... a good day to sleep. Guess I will put off cleaning house till fall.  :-\

Patricia, I forgot to mention to Jane that I'm sure my German gr-father served up that "stuff" but I didn't like to eat when growing up so don't think I ever tasted it.  I am wanting to get to MO to taste some of that old time food when they serve it during October Fests.  One of my cousins helps his men's group make the German sausage that they serve & sell as fund raiser.  I need to call him to see which week end his little town will have their street party, & where I can park an elephant.

As Jane S is talking about foods...it has just brought to mind some foods I grew up with, or foods that were my fathers favourites...such foods as black pudding and chitterlings....My father would slice, then fry black pudding, I loved it, yes even after he told me what it was....( pork, dried blood and suet ) chitterlings, ( small intestines of a pig, ) again my father would fry them to a crisp, I loved them, but then I didn't know what they were like I did the black pudding.....Faggots was another one, ( " meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork. A faggot is traditionally made from pig's heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes bread crumbs....) You can still buy all these today, but how many would eat them if they knew what they were eating...

That festival sounds great, and tasty, Shirley! We have October festival here as well, but I haven't been in years. I remember one time as a teenager and going with my folks. Some young men, sitting a few feet up from us were discussing my mother and her "attributes."

This went on for a bit, with them probably not realizing she was there with family. Suddenly my dad stood up, all six foot four of him and started towards the guys. We began laughing, my sisters and I, as they fumbled, stumbled knocked their bench over and ran!

In the late fall, we have a terrific art, national clothing, and food festival called Heritage week. The highlight for me is where they showcase food of their native countries, and it is so good and reasonably priced. Most of those represented are East European and Asian along of course with our Native various Indian and Eskimo foods. There are Western European and American foods there as well as hot dogs and chili competitions, but I like to try foods new to me.

Jackie, I have a friend of long standing who paints and is  incurably curious. She once posted a photo of her full British breakfast and of course a British tea. One of her photos pictured blood pudding and no I wouldn't want to try it.  She regularly has exhibitions and I know she lives in a beach resort area and there is the requisite castle on a hill above the beach but I do not remember where.

Angelface, I don't think the ponhaus/scrapple that you can buy in the stores around here would be the same as that made by my grandparents and uncles (and yours too)  I haven't tried this and I probably won't try it until Thursday when I'm not rushed to get to work.  But I was so delighted by the good food that Steve gave me!  I know I'll enjoy the sausage.

Caught some zzzs on the sofa and I feel ready to go!

I also made an appointment with a new groomer for the doggies.  They will go Thursday at noon.  I'm sure they will enjoy getting rid of some of they scraggly hair they've been carrying around.  And the young lady who answered the phone sounded very nice.

Maybe I'll get my ears lowered a bit this week.  And the grass is going to get mowed and the rose of Sharon bushes trimmed.  Everything is going to be shorter around here....including the days pretty soon.

Shirley, one of these times when my granddaughter Courtney visits Lewisburg, I'm going to corral her and have her show me how to get the pictures off the phone...if I'm not too dumb to learn.  (Don't tell June I said that).

Time to start scrounging around for supper.  I think I'll make it easy and eat one of home made TV dinners.  Enjoy the rest of your day Everyfriend.

Janie, Ed taught me how to eat scrapple, and I really liked it. We never had it in Mn. that I heard of. Ed bought Hormels Philadelphia canned scrapple. I would dip the slices in flour and fry it up. My Mom made something called "head cheese" and that was really icky.

Patricia, thank you for your kind message. I am all straightened out now, and so thankful to be here. You are so correct, we have so very much to be thankful for.

Tisie, my husband suffered with Tintinitus, and he had the radio playing softly all night long so he could sleep. He was told by our medical doctor to do what I tried, and it works. Lie in bed on your back, with your head hanging over the edge of the bed. Slowly turn your head to one side then back to the other side. I tried that this morning and it did clear up my ears. It is not a cure, but surely a big help.

Janie, I read that girl, and with all you do, dumb does not belong on you Calendar…not be a long shot !

Bis and Beverly, how I would love to hear the sounds of rain and storms, and the scent of rain…. I hope yours lasts long enough to help.

June, my mother talked about making head cheese when they grew up.... and it sure sounded "icky" to me, too.  Back in the day when my folks would buy a calf to be butchered they sometimes would share with the person that took the other half or with the meat locker people, all those organs & tongue, brains & yucky stuff 'cause none of us kids would even taste it.  We didn't grow up eating it so when it was offered, we were not pushed to try it.  I'll try your suggestion to clear my ears.... allergies have been SO bad this year.  My little Sony Walkman uses only 1 AA battery & it lasts forever so I plug the buds into my ears & listen to the oldies music any time I am awake.  My FitBit tells me that my average time to fall asleep is ONE minute.  Crazy, huh?  Doesn't matter how many times I wake up during the night... but if I am hungry I may as well get up & fix an egg or toast, I won't go back to sleep until I do.  When Cas was alive I never got up, if he woke up he couldn't go back to sleep.  The last few years he did more sleeping during the day than he did at night.

None of us kids were very good eaters & Mother was a fantastic cook.  Because she grew up without a mother, she spoiled us and tried to be the perfect mother to each of our demands.  I think we took advantage of her.  My sister & I sure did not cater to OUR kids like she did but we both appreciated the fact that she would fix each of us what we wanted to eat ... we all like fried chicken & roast, etc., but when it was an unusual meal, (Dad loved liver & onions or cooked cabbage & some kind of meat...)  she would fix us kids something different.

War years we ate whatever was put on the table and we knew every Sunday it would be special because when the 2 oldest boys went into the service, Mom made a practice of calling the local Red Cross & have them send over a couple "boys" (didn't matter the service) for Sunday dinner.  She always hoped that "some other mother would feed her boys".... they never talked about it if it happened.  We had our own chickens for eggs & to fry & always had a farmer to raise beef for us.  During the week we would have fish, squirrel or what ever Mom & Dad could come up with to have rations to share on the week ends. We had a victory garden & did whatever it took to stretch the rations out, there was a package of goodies in the mail every week to both brothers.  Dad worked for the railroad so we didn't have a lot of money.  We thought everyone was in the same boat, but our parents were always ready to share with neighbors or even strangers, so we never felt sorry for ourselves.  Somehow, those were "the good ole days"..... right?

Hugs to all, I'm going to check on cats.  Tom came in & hid under the couch but the girls, Tiger & Lauren, just lay out by the pool & looked at me without moving when I called them to come in.  We've had thunder & a few sprinkles but most of the rain has slipped around Wichita.  Miss Callie is sitting on my car in the garage.... going to get oil changed & have them wash it tomorrow so will see if she has scratched it. I don't have the heart to lock her out of the garage, she gets her feelings hurt so easily.   :tissue:

Good night to all, God Bless.  Shirley

I will say a good morning to all my Everyfriends but, I hope by now you are all nicely tucked up inside your beds, if that makes any sense...

I am on the tearful side this morning, the reality of what is to soon come to our Benji, the fact he is such a happy dog, oblivious as to what is to come, yet soon he is going to be in pain and trouble and I cant do anything to stop this happening, yet I have known for some time this will come, I am feeling so helpless....add together the getting up in the morning to no Benji around, just fills me with dread as I truly feel I will have nothing to get out of bed for, he is the one who makes it worthwhile...with no happy dog to greet me, no kisses, no cuddles, the genuine love and affection from him.....As for Tobypup, he does not like me, if I go sit on the sofa where he is laying, give him a cuddle, he is off and straight onto Rs bed, sidles up to him, and that's about it.....he never comes onto my bed, or into my bedroom to see me....All I know is my life wont be the same once Benji is gone, he will then be the last of my original three, after my losing my two beloved girls, Petra and my darling Megan, both very close to me....It will be a large chapter of my life over....I will just be left with Toby and R......Yes I know, life goes on...and yes I am still young enough to have other dogs but, at age 65 and with Primary Progressive MS and not being able to walk them myself, I am not sure that will be feasible, although I shant be ruling it out....I just need dogs in my life to look after, love, and be loved...Dogs are the genuine article...what you see is what you get.... I just know I am due a heartbreaking time......

Good Wednesday morning, Everyfriend, on this last day of August.  There's pecan glazed coffee cake to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

Special Needs

After booking my 80-year-old grandmother on a flight from Florida to Nevada, I called the airline to go over her special needs. The representative listened patiently as I requested a wheelchair and an attendant for my mother because of her arthritis and impaired vision to the point of near blindness. My apprehension lightened a bit when the woman assured me that everything would be taken care of. I thanked her profusely.

"Oh, you're welcome," she replied.

I was about to hang up when she cheerfully asked, "And will your grandmother need a rental car?"

Food For Thought

Daring to Dream

By John Kuperus
Scripture Reading: Genesis 37

Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.
Genesis 37:5
Great outcomes often begin with dreams. Immigrants dream of a better life in another country. Martin Luther King, Jr., dreamed of a world without racial discrimination. Joseph had dreams that suggested he would be a powerful leader.
But dreams can be dangerous. Joseph’s dreams stirred the hatred of his brothers. They did not like the idea of bowing down to Joseph. His dreams resulted in the brothers saying, “Here comes that dreamer! . . . Come now, let’s kill him. . . .” Joseph’s dreams brought him to a pit and then into slavery. Later he was put in prison on false charges (Genesis 39).
Sometimes our dreams too may be crushed. When that happens, we have a choice. We can become bitter and angry about being treated unjustly, or we can forgive those who hurt us.
Joseph saw God’s hand at work in his life. After many years, when he was reunited with his brothers, he said, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish . . . the saving of many lives” (Genesis 50:20). Even in the midst of evil, God worked behind the scenes to protect Joseph and make him into a great leader.
Joseph’s dreams brought deliverance for many lives.
His life pointed to the great deliverer who was to come, Jesus Christ. God is at work in our dreams also. Do you trust him to see you through?
Father, thank you for the dreams you give. And when we cannot make sense out of our lives, help us to trust that you are working all things for good. In Jesus, Amen.

Thought of the Day

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal.  It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Good Morning Everyfriend and a special GOOD MORNING to you JOANIE!  You always take such good care of us.

Jackie, I can feel your pain and I know you will miss Benji when he is gone but he's not gone yet so enjoy him while you can.  Try not to think of what is going to be and enjoy the moment.  I know that's easier said than done but for his sake you have to try.

I'll be off to Wally World at 9 and when I come home, my grass will be a lot shorter.  Sam is coming around 9 to mow and he will probably be gone by the time I get home.  He's going to assess the bushes that have to be trimmed and let me know an approximate cost and then we'll decide when he will do that.

It's been good sleeping weather around here the past few nights...down in the high 60s and with the window open it's lovely!  I hope you all have a good day.  Make it what you want it to be!

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday I hit the floor running. Had to take hubby for an ultrasound then into the city to get his hearing aids checked out.

We had a lovely rain last night along with a bit of thunder too! Doggies weren't impressed with that part but the rain was lovely!

Going to help a friend this morning , deliver a cancer quilt then home to take apart some quilting, I am just not happy with the way the rows are coming together .

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  You're going to be off to WM, and I am going out to do a few errands.  The HOA lawn crew was around here yesterday trimming, mowing and pruning, so things look neat again.

Amy--Good morning.  Imagine you're glad you don't have medical appointments today.

It's not too warm yet...76° on my deck thermometer...but it is humid.  We're not getting the rain from the storm off the Carolina coast but we are getting some of the humidity.  Perhaps we will get some needed rain when the next storm comes by later this week.  Hope so!  Meanwhile, it is my watering day so probably will turn the sprinkler on the newly re-seeded lawn.  It doesn't seem to be growing yet....maybe too soon to see those new little grass blades.

Chitterlings.....here in the South they are called "chitlins" and are a favorite of native Southerners.  I've never acquired the taste.  And, don't intend to try.   :P

At last, my son, David, and I finished the last of the doctor/dental/eye doctor's appointments for awhile.  Hopefully the only scheduled medical appointment I have is with the dermatologist next January.  They are all nice people but I really would like to not see any of them for awhile.

Today is a "free day" and I can do whatever I want to do.  I don't have anything in mind so will probably just putter around home and idle my day away.  Unless I think up some mischief to get in to.

Good Morning Everyone!

I see the three J's are up and about.  I too got my lawn done yesterday and afterwards the Good Lord saw fit to send down a quick downpour of about 15 minutes and then shut it off.  Looking out this morning patio is damp so maybe we got a shower sometime during the night.

Jackie, ditto on Janies comment.  Remember this old world isn't our (or Benji's) home, we are just passing through.  Enjoy what God has provided.  And I know you will.

PT this morning.  Sometimes I think it is helping and other times I am not so sure.  I got a phone call yesterday to schedule another ultra sound.  That makes three, but the one consolation is that after this one I will see the doctor to go over it.  One thing about it, my innards are not secret anymore.  I just wonder what the doctors are going to want to do.

Joanie, you gonna by yourself a pretty while you are out.  I am happy to hear you are finally getting some rain.  Looks like the old Gulf is finally decided to make a few waves, pun intended.

Coffee is ready........

Hi everyone.  Another clear sky this morning but it was already 80 degrees when I got to the kitchen this morning.  So it will be another hot day.

My doctor's appointment yesterday went well.  She took me off of the diuretic (Lasik) I had been taking and told me I needed to limit my fluid intake to no less than 32 or more than 64 ounces a day.  Since I have always consumed a lot of liquid each day this will require a retraining process for me.  She gave me a different statin drug until I can finally get the Entresto approved by Blue Cross & Blue Shield.  She wants me to get my blood pressure up to a minimum of 65 as she feels the diastolic is just too low.  I will see her again in two months.

I plan a light day today with our only time away from the house the chiropractic appointment for Pat late this afternoon.  Scott will be with us this evening and will help get the dinner ready. I have several tasks to do here in my office this morning.  My regular morning chores are completed except to fix Pat's breakfast when she gets up and that is easy this morning as just have to pop the sausage muffins in the microwave.  The strawberries are already out and thawing.

Joan, yesterday while I waited my turn at the Walmart Pharmacy the saw on the readout on the counter that the prescription she was picking up was right at $2,000 dollar (that's thousands).  She mentioned it was just for 30 tablets.

Mary Ann, what better thing could be said about a person's life that she considered everyone her friend.  It is so sad when we lose these people out of our lives.

Jackie, nice you could let Benji run off the leash at such a peaceful place.  You are seeing that Benji has the best health care possible.  That black pudding and chitterlings are something I plan to exit this earth without ever having eaten.

Joan, great "Thought for the Day" and so true.

Phyllis, I join you in getting very tired of the endless doctor appointments.  I have another appointment Friday for an ultrasound on my liver and then will see the Hematologist/Oncologist doctor next Tuesday.

Shirley, what a talented son you have and sure glad you will be able to "hit the road" again after the holiday weekend.  All schools should be back in session which will make the traveling easier and more enjoyable.  Saying I am handy around the house is probably and overstatement.  I just try to do my best and that seems to get the job done.

Jane, I had to Google Scrapple to see what it was.  I have never eaten it as it wasn't a popular item in the Missouri where I grew up.  We always butchered beef and pork on the farm and rather than cured bacon the meat was cooked as side-meat, which I never like but often ate it for breakfast.  It was mainly fat.  Of course, the same thing is true of bacon.  However, the homemade sausage sounds delicious.

Patricia, maybe it was just my family that didn't have the Scrapple but I don't remember seeing it in the supermarkets either.  I looked it up to see how it is prepared.

June, thanks for your concern.  Fortunately my wife is very supportive and never pushes me when I find I need to sit down for a little while and rest.  I am feeling much better today than yesterday so am expecting a good day.  I took my blood pressure a few minutes ago and the bottom number was 65 so off to a good start.

Shirley and Jane, I did a quick Google search and found a very good video showing how to get your photos off of your smart Android phone.  I am sure similar instructions are available by searching for the iPhone.  I use the Google Photos and it works very well.  Here is a link to the video:  http://www.digitaltrends.com/photography/best-ways-get-photos-android/

Bit of a palaver this afternoon...had to take the dog food tins back to vets as they had a different label on them, saying Kidney not Renal, as after yesterday asking vet what the difference was, as both foods are to do with kidneys, he told us the kidney foods are probably to do with kidney stones which kindof satisfied us with his answer, so only after we got home and unpacked did we find that the kidney food had been given to us...so I made a phonecall telling them wrong tins had been given to us and we will bring them back in when we come tomorrow ( today ) We waited till afternoon on vet phonecall, re, his yesterday blood test, never came through, guess we weren't expecting yesterday as our vet app, was late in the afternoon, so guessed the result hadn't of come through by the close of the day....Well confusion arose over these returned tins of dog food, took in receipt, picked up the new tins vet said we can also put Benji on for choice, receptionist couldn't understand what we were returning them for, we told her they weren't for the kidney ailment that  Benji is being treated for...she called in our vet who came out of his office, called us into his surgery room, muttering, " did you get my telephone message, we both uttered back, no, assuming his blood test result..," and whilst going in, both myself and R came to a disagreement on why we were being called in...R said its to sort out this mess of dog foods, I said dont be daft, its to be told the result of Benjis blood test, he wouldn't be calling us in to talk about dogfood, well wrong when I saw the packed tins on his desk.....I said to vet, couldn't reception deal with this, instead of wasting your time, while you deal with more serious matters, I thought we was coming in to talk about Benjis result....Anyway after vet explained that these two tins are the same foods just with old and new labels, I reminded him of yesterday conversation, my question to him....What a mix up, he assumed I was referring to the new brand of dogfood, well at that point yesterday we hadn't even broached on this subject of trying Benji on any different brands....Then we did get on the subject of Benjis blood kidney result, only vets computer was playing up so back out to receptions computer, I of course ummed and arred, surely we haven't gone into vet room to discuss dog food, then come out into waiting room to discuss Benjis blood test for all to hear, so vet said we can go back into his room, so back we went.....what a right mess of a palaver....

Some good news, Benjis kidneys of course are still working on 25% but his kidney numbers have gone down from 14 or 15 from last month to 10, which means what we are feeding him is doing its work....Vet has kindof gone back on his word, re, yesterday of allowing him some treats, just told us to keep on doing what we have been doing, as it it working....As for making next months monitoring app when I mentioned it, followed by, " am I jumping the gun.." I can only go by his expression when he said possibly.....Well vets answer to us was, if it was just his kidney problem and no cancer, he would be asking for us to go see him in three months time, but of course that is not Benjis situation, so vet is not asking us to go see him next month, which only tells me that Benji might not get to see next month....Of course he did follow this with we could always pop Benji in if we have any concerns...other than that, I told him I will phone through any concerns, and would I be able to get hold of him, he said yes....

When we got indoors, R checked for telephone messages, no messages...so vet either told us a porkie pie, knowing fully he hadn't phoned through his test result this morning, trying to cover himself,.... or, maybe he did, but unknowingly phoned a wrong number and left a message on someone else's phone, we will never know....

Oh boy, I am writing another book again.... :o

Good Morning,

Stopping in to say "Howdy" before trying to find the top of my work table that has to be there somewhere under all the "stuff" I've tossed on it during The Week That Was!

I think my hibernation time is working because this is the first morning since TWTW that I haven't gotten up feeling like I was fighting my way through a fog.

Have read all the posts and said a little prayer for each Friend with health or life challenges - and chuckled at the comments on scrapple, chitterlings , etc.   I  tasted chitlins once during my first visit to hubby's Mississippi relatives and I wanted to be polite.

Out here in the Wild West,  you might come across Rocky Mountain Oysters.     As soon as I can come up with a polite way to describe what they are,  I'll be back.   :2funny:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Re, chitterlings....when my father done them he fried them to a crisp, I remember how they looked very long and wrinkled, but I do remember I ate them, and enjoyed them.....Now R has recently found an online company who sell chitterlings, I mentioned to him before they arrived how I remember liking them many many years ago, but never eating them since....Well when they arrived, and R was ready to eat them, he said go ahead they are ready...I took one look at them and said..." your not going to eat them like that, they are raw, they feel soft and raw..my father used to fry them, when he done them they were lovely and crisp...R said " they are already cooked, " I argued, " no they are not.." anyway we left it at that, I stayed well clear, and I left them all for him to eat, which he did, he has even ordered more since.......

Yay GLORIA'S back.. :happydance:   :dancingdog:

Hello Everyfriend!  Even though it was a good day at work, I was really tired when I got home.  Sam was still mowing so while he finished, I got the doggies a snack and had my lunch and after he left, I collapsed on the sofa.  I must have slept for at least an hour and a half and I feel wiped out.  Maybe the rested feeling will come later.

I don't work tomorrow and it will be a time to take it slow and easy.  I have to have the doggies to the groomer by noon and then pick up TLH at the bus at 3:45 but those are my only obligations.

I hope Everyfriend has had a good day...all tests proved health and all health problems have disappeared.

Good Morning dear friends. we are looking for a little higher temps today, 89, but that i still acceptable. This morning is Bible Study with our Chaplain. One thirty is Current topics,  two thirty is root beer floats, two fortyfive is Edgars' Variety show and that is my schedule for the day. Then I can concentrate on "at home" duties and reading and possible naps.

Jackie, you must be brave for your beloved dogs sake. I truly feel our animals can sense our joys, our sadness, many of our emotions, and it reflects on them. Your Benji needs to feel assurance from you, and joy, so he will feel the same. I pray God grants you the strength and wisdom needed to see both you and Benji through this most difficult time.

Time for me to scoot downstairs..see you all later. June

As you may have guessed, I forgot to post this message that was still waiting for me in the message box. DUH !!!!!!!!!!! This is not a good day for me, for sure. I went to Bible Study, loved the guest speaker, he was so enthusiastic in his teaching. He reminded me of my Gary with his mannerisms. I came home, feeling all worn out so lay down and took a short snooze. Went downstairs and had lunch, came right home changed into lounging clothes and too another nap. So I canceled out the whole afternoon. Just have to obey the body at times. No other choice. The celebrated a Birthday at Noon lunch...Bob is 103 years young. He does his own laundry, presses his own clothing, even puts a crease in his pants when he irons. What an inspiration...makes me feel like a real Dud, but hopeful that i can keep going too. So that is my day so far. Home is the place to be. I am content.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

I have been reading your posts but not commenting as I have been passing myself coming and going!

So good to see you managed to get in to say HELLO, GLORIA.  We all miss and feel so badly for you not being able to join in.  I hope the lemon will work after their next attempt to fix it.  GURRR!

A trip to my endiocronoligist yesterday brought on yet another new expensive drug....so discouraged.  We will be leaving tomorrow to drive to my 50th class reunion gathering, so I will not be starting this new med as it is going to be one that will be hard for me to tolerate it.

Continued thoughts and prayers for you and Benji today, JACKIE.  I was pleased to read that the blood test showed improvement for Benji's kidneys.

Today is my brother's 70th Birthday....Hard to believe.  Worse part is I am only 15 months younger!  Yikes!

I wish you all pleasant dreams tonigh.  Sleep well.  I hope your day will be a good one, Jackie.

We are off to the Dr for hubby in a bit, then onto the city. My supply of quilts is low so I am picking up some more.

I am listening to the loons call across the lake, enjoying the sound .
Leaves are starting to turn colour here now....fall is sneaking in :(

Jakie, just enjoy each day you have with your furbaby.I know it is not easy to not think of what is to be but cherish the good times.

Ok, did Joan sleep in??She sure deserves to sleep in as I think she wakes the roosters up too! I hope she is ok..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm a bit worried about Joanie this morning, too.  I hope she overslept.  She needs to do that sometimes.  But I don't think she ever does.  I'll be checking back regularly to see if she has arrived yet.

Amy, have a safe trip to the city.  I don't see how it's possible that your quilt supply is low but since you use them for insulation and winter is coming, I guess you have a good reason to stock up.

Jenny, it's always nice to see you come by.  When you come late at night, I sometimes forget to greet you when I get up in the morning.  So....Good night and good morning to you.

I have some things to see to this morning so I'll be back.

I'm so hoping that Joan is all right.  Perhaps the storm moving across Florida has interrupted their power.  I'm praying that she stays safe.

I thought I was all through with doctors for awhile.  Apparently, I'm not.  I will be seeing the cardiologist soon.  It seems that the heart monitor has shown a little problem with my heart.  Whatever will be, will be.

The first tropical storm moved away from the NC coast and all they had was a little rain.  Here, about 90 miles inland, we had nothing.  We could sure use some, too.  The next storm, the one that FLA is dealing with, may give us a little moisture and, hopefully, no wind.  We'll see what happens in the next couple days.

Please make it a good day, All my Friends.

I just had a phone call from our Joan.  She is fine but her internet is dead.  She has someone coming around noon to check it out and hopefully she will again be with us this afternoon.  Thank God it was the internet and not Joan herself!

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful morning for South Carolina.  My quiet day yesterday didn't turn out that way as seemed there was something that needed to be done all day, except when I laid down to rest in the afternoon for a couple of hours.  I spent the morning with chores and then clearing up a bunch of paperwork that had accumulated for several days.  Then the afternoon hours were devoted to doing a load of laundry and fixing things for last night's dinner and getting Pat to her Chiropractic appointment (which we do again this afternoon).

Today I don't have to pick up my friend to go to coffee as he has a doctor's appointment.  I do plan on going to coffee and then to the Wisdom Class at the church.  Hopefully Pat will feel up to going to out eat our main meal today and if not I will go out and bring something back. I have to get some monthly bills paid this morning as well.  So there is plenty to do today but I will be taking it at a slow pace.

Jackie, sounds like you all had quite a mixup with your Vet.  Communication isn't easy and often the ball is dropped.  I have never heard that term "porkie pie" used in reference to a lie.

Callie, I know very well what Rocky Mountain Oysters are.  As I was growing up there would usually be an annual Rocky Mountain Oyster community dinner.  Of course there was always another meat on the menu.

Gloria, may I suggest you consider getting a blue tooth small and light weight keyboard to use with your iPhone.  I think I paid only about $10 for the one I have and it works very well.  They are easy to use simply by turning on the blue tooth function in the menu setting of the phone and turning on the keyboard.  The phone will discover the keyboard and you will be linked and don't have to fool with the little onscreen keyboard of the phone.  If you are interested I can probably locate the one I have and send you a link.  I don't use it often but it was very handy when needed.

Joan, glad you had some personal time with your friends at breakfast.  Also was relieved to read Jane's posting that you were OK and it was just an internet problem.  Do hope you, Beverly and all the folks in Florida come through the storm well.

JaneS, glad you have today off so you can have a day of recovery.

June, where are your priorities in passing up the root beer floats!  :)  Glad you were up to attending the Bible study.

Jenny, I relate to your situation with the expensive drugs.  It seems our out-of-pocket medical expenses keep rising at a steady pace.  Pat is now using and inhaler that is expensive, although we had a 1/3rd savings by getting it from the mail order pharmacy rather than Walmart.  If I ever get the new heart medication approved by BC/BS I will have two expensive drugs and Pat has one.

Amy, I haven't really seen much sign of fall in our area and we are still having very warm nights.

Phyllis, I am convinced that as we age our number of doctor visit increases right along with our age.  Do hope you miss any bad effects from the storm.

Everyone Has a Story in Life.....

A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted…

“ Dad, look the trees are going behind! ”

Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed…

“ Dad, look the clouds are running with us! ”

The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man…

“ Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor? ” The old man smiled and said…“ I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today..."

Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you......

Bubble was telling me that when talking to her grandson Aviv about Benni, her late husband, telling him that he was his grandfather, Aviv told her "Don is my grandfather." I felt honoured, but also sorry that I had replaced Benni in his memory of his true grandfather.

Good Morning all. I spent an hour today cleaning up my emails. I am so very thankful that our Bis is O.K. I checked out the Fl. storm and my computer showed it going through the north west arm and missing the rest of the state. I do hope so.

I had a very good nights sleep, but feel like if I crawled back into bed, I would be asleep in seconds, so I will instead go make the bed and get ready to face the outside world. It is overcast this morning....perfect sleeping weather. sigh..... ;)

Good Morning,

So happy to see Gloria back - and Joan all repaired and ready to go.

Don,  I firmly believe that no child can ever have too many people loving him.   I'm sure you and Aviv will build many happy memories together.
My husband died just 6 weeks before our first grandchild (Miss Ellen) was born.  Although all three Grands know a lot about him from stories and an album I made of his life,  she will occasionally say,  "Grampa David knew about me."  True - although we did not know she would be a tiny premature girl with bright red hair.

Yesterday was a very productive day doing desk work.  Just as I was ready to take things to the mailbox,  the skies opened and we had about 3 inches of torrential rain in less than an hour.
There was also lightning and thunder.  According to the news, there were a couple of house fires due to lightning strikes.  My lights flickered once but nothing was knocked out - thank goodness.

Still cloudy this morning and radar shows showers approaching the metro area - although that doesn't mean they'll come over my house.

#2 son is "bringing lunch" today.   I have no idea what it will be.
With football and hunting seasons starting,  family times will be few and far between for quite some time. I need to get visiting time in while I can.
At least, I'll know where they'll be.  Oklahoma State has home games on three of the four September weekends.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Thanks halkel and Janie.

Callie--Thanks.  It sure is nice to have your family so close that they can drop by for lunch.  I sure wish that was so with me.  We had rain for about 30 min. yesterday.   Not nearly enough, but every little bit helps the terrible dryness we've had.

Hi everyone. Decided to post late this evening rather than in the morning as have an early appointment at the hospital for an ultrasound on my liver. It shouldn't take too long but one never knows. This area is now expecting some impact from the hurricane.  Most of the schools and government offices are going to be closed tomorrow. The last report I saw expects the rain to start about 11 am.

Today turned out to be quiet. I was just too weary to go to coffee and the Wisdom group at the church. After resting and sleeping some this afternoon I felt better. After Pat's appointment late this afternoon we went to Ruby Tuesday's for a good dinner. I am watching the South Carolina and Vanderbilt football game in bed and writing on my iPad.

Gloria, I will try to remember to look up where I got mine and email the info to you. I think it was from Amazon.

I am coming in to say a very thankful Good Night to all of  you dear friends. I really don't know how the hours of this day have just disappeared. I know I went down to have lunch, and before that I went down to play music bingo, and this afternoon I went to balance and mobility class, and then I get lost. I know I had supper at home, and did the dishes, then lay down to read a bit, and all of a sudden it is eight o'clock and my eyes are closing. weird.

So I will say a thankful Good night to you all and get ready for bed. I am so happy that our Bis is back on line !!!! God Bless you all and sleep well. Love and Hugs and Prayers. June

Larry, I did check out the link you posted for Jane and me.... and bookmarked it to watch again since not much soaked in the first time.  I think I have a mental block about wanting/NOT wanting to learn how to operate this smart phone. Son showed me that mine will turn "voice to text" but I can't remember how to do it.  Thanks~   Wondered if you would be in the range of bad weather.  Stay safe & keep the flashlights handy!

Callie, I had my first introduction to Rocky Mountain Oysters when friends invited us to a local bar/eating place where farmers gathered.  After explaining the "event" I declined.  The place was noted for it's good steaks & baked potatoes, good hardy food the farmers & friends appreciated.  The place is long gone & I never had the pleasure of tasting any of their food.  :sealedlips:

Jenny, Happy Birthday to your brother (You do look very young but I didn't know you are such a youngster!!!)   Sorry to see you are having to try new meds.   :shakehead:

Phyll, hope the heart problem is just a fluke and nothing serious.  We watched my progress for about 20 years before it became a problem... that was taken care of, thank you very much!

Thanks for the news about Joan, Jane.... I have been missing myself since it was mowing day.  My new weed eater/trimmer didn't arrive (what would we do without Amazon?) until nearly 8:00 this evening so I've had my, "Oh, NO!" evening.

I've thought of you, Joan, and hope you & your kids are out of harm.   :cloud:

June, it was a struggle to get the blasted thing out of the box & caused me to remember it was the same struggle not long before Cas died, when we worked to get the one he bought me out of the box.  Only HE put it together & I am faced with the dumb-dumb feeling that I don't have a clue how to put it together.  I looked at the old one but son has taken it apart so no help there.  No directions because, I guess, men are expected to just know how to do these things.  I really hate to admit I can't do anything but since I've used this old one for 3 years +.... you'd think I would have noticed how it goes together.  Won't take son a nano second to do, but it makes me so mad at myself~~!!   :withstupid:  :uglystupid2:

Don, wise advice from everyone in here... and I know you & Bubble will tell him about his blood gr-father's interesting life when he is ready to hear.  He's getting a delightful person to share his life from now on.   :music:

I am half asleep so will quit rambling on.  Sweet dreams and God Bless all.........   Shirley

Food For Thought

First Class Apology
(By Pastor Fred Rabinovitz, Olympia, WA)

A Pastor and his wife needed to fly to several cities, so to make the itinerary easy, they chose to fly with the same airline. This turned several
50 minute flights into 4 hour flights because of the layovers due to infrequent connecting flights.

In the midst of one of these layovers, the wife went up to the counter to get their boarding passes. After reaching the counter, she turned to her husband and said, "Honey, they need to see our ID's."

"Why," he responded "they checked them when we entered the terminal." When she called back to him that it was the regulations, he barked, "Well, that's dumb!" Right then he heard the Lord say to him, "Now, that was dumb."

After this, the Pastor argued with God about apologizing for about 15 minutes. Finally he went up to the counter and asked for forgiveness before boarding the airplane. "We get yelled at a lot, but no one's ever come up and asked for forgiveness before," said the surprised woman behind the counter.

After boarding the plane and taking their seats toward the rear of the plane, a stewardess came up to the Pastor and his wife and informed them that they were in the wrong seats. She brought them up and seated them in First Class. The woman behind the counter had moved their seats because of the heartfelt apology.

God wants to take us First Class, but how many times have we settled for coach because of our own actions and responses to trials?

Good morning Everyfriend!  It was a lovely sleeping weather night...temps in the mid 50s and it's only supposed to be in the mid to high 70s today.  I can't say (as Amy did) that Fall is on the way because I know from experience that the temps can go up in September.  I remember days before A/C when I sat in a school room with all the windows open and was so hot I couldn't think.  And even after we have the first frost, there's always Indian Summer.

Not much on the agenda today except my 4 hours at WM.  We'll see what transpires this afternoon.  Have a lovely day everyone.

Almost forgot to mention that, as in the inspirational reading, I've found that sometimes an apology does a lot more good than we think it's going to do.  For example, yesterday, I felt very bad when Kiran wanted something that I'm not financially able to give her right now.  She got very upset with me and in the car on the way home, she apologized for her actions and told me she understands.  She made me cry!  She's only 9.  I don't want her to have to understand.  I want to give her the world but I'm glad she understands.

Good morning everyone..

Great sleeping weather here and no humidity!!

I have laundry on the go with one to hang out on the line in a bit. Then take my van in for an oil change ,then home to stay!

Jane our leaves are starting to turn colour in some areas and the birds are starting to flock up. When I took my friend to the city I mentioned a flock of birds sitting on the wire. Said to her look at all the mug rumps but she didn't understand till I said the birds on the wire with their mugs on one side and their rumps on the other.....hence mugrumps.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good MOrning Everyone!

I am up and getting cleaned up, got to go see the vampire this morning.  Hope the traffic is not to heavy, maybe some will want to start the long weekend early.

Joanie, Larry, hope you are doing okay with all the bad weather.  Seems most of the East coast is in for some rough weather this weekend.  Wonder why all the news people think they have to wade out into the weather to do their weathercast.
Guess they haven't got enough sense to come in out of the rain..... ::)

Janie, kids are a lot smarter than we sometime give them credit for.  I can relate about hoping they don't know how broke we were/are sometimes.  Talking to my kids now days and about those times I once explained to my oldest I hope she didn't realize how broke I was in their younger years.

Catch you guys on the backside.

Good morning!  Just waiting on Hermine to get here later today.  Dark and cloudy right now but no rain and no wind.  Glad you are doing OK down there, Joan.  Looks like the worst of it came ashore west and north of you.

Thanks, Shirley.  I'll just wait and see what the cardiologist has to say after I go through whatever tests he/she wants to do.  So far, I haven't heard from them setting an appointment.  My internist prescribed a low dose of Metaprolol and that has helped calm things down a lot.  Tom used to take that for high BP.  I don't have that problem but apparently it is good for other things, too.  Early diagnosis indicates SVT (supraventricular tachycardia).  Finally got a very good sleep last night so feel much better today.

Jane, Kiran is a little girl with a big heart to offer her apology to you.  And she has learned a very valuable lesson....we can't always have everything we want.

Since I posted last evening I will just do a quick check in today.  At least it is going to be nice day temperature wise only getting up to 76 degrees.

I went for my ultrasound test but had goofed and ate breakfast so they had to reschedule it for 2 pm this afternoon.  We are getting the rain from the Tropical Storm and have already had over 1 inch.  It is suppose to be heavier this afternoon with more wind.  Of all the days to goof up this wasn't the one but I won't melt and need to have the test today as will see the doctor who ordered it on Tuesday.

Pat is showing some signs of beginning to get better.  The chiropractor re-evaluated her yesterday and was very satisfied with the progress she has made although she is still having the muscle spasm but perhaps less often.

Jackie, you mention dozing in your computer chair.  Is there danger of your falling out of the chair while asleep?

Gloria, as I am now reading back through the messages I see you have an iPhone so the link I posted should work well or you will find others for the iPhone by searching bluetooth keyboard for iPhone (whatever version you have).  You probably could get one at Staples but expect they would want a much higher price for it.

Shirley, I bet your son won't mind putting it together as it is something he can do for his mother.

Joan, I liked the Chuckle for today.

Hal, I have always questioned why the weather people, especially in hurricanes, think they need to stand out.  I feel the same way about reporters standing along side the road where some accident happened long after the situation has been resolved and the cars moved away.

Larry--Oops!!  Guess they forgot to tell you fasting was required for the ultrasound.  We've had storms several times this morning, but each one only lasts about 15 min.  It does remain very windy however.  Glad Pat is doing better.

June:  Glad you are feeling better about everything.

Radioman:  January should be nice in Israel.  Have some Blood Oranges!  They are terrific.

Phyllis:  Loved your message.

Almond Biscotti is baked - it takes an extra step so the timer has to be set twice - nice to have a desk in my kitchen.

I search many electronic problems and look at Youtube as well. Don is my go-to guy in the house.

Lloyd--Of course we missed you.  We thought you were very busy with the water line etc.  Amy said it well. Glad you liked the hospital food.  Will you have to use the oxygen 24/7?

Carol--Yummy--almond biscotti.

Carol, this quilt shop was run by a lady that is now in a nursing home.. Her daughter is selling off the fabric at 80% off and I think tomorrow is the last day. I bought a bit and it worked out to less that $3.00 a metre!! Nice Northcott fabric too!!

Lloyd, now that you will be in the hospital you will have more time to post to us  we shall be expecting to hear form you too!

Just finished up trying to tidy my sewing table....seems to be a never ending job!.

Lloyd--You don't want to go home until they are sure you are ready.  You said the food was good--so enjoy that, use your computer, watch TV and rest.  The nose piece hurt me, too, at first, but once it gets settled you hardly realize it's there.

Hi Janie and Amy.

June--I hope you can get rested.

The nose piece isn't what bothers me the most.  For me, it's where the canula tube goes over and behind my ears and adds to the pressure from my glasses and my hearing aids.  And when my "tail" gets a little snagged on something the first thing is pressure on my ears.  :(

well  looks like I am in for another learning curve. It is very certain that i am going home today with machines and tanks.
the fellow just was here to see me and left a tank on wheels for me to go home with and said he would be by the house
with several more tanks and a machine to use in the house that would have a adapter to hook up to my by pap machine.
that is good i am homesick.
Home sweet home.

I know you are glad to be going home, Lloyd, even if the hospital food is good.  Take care of yourself and do what the doctors tell you to do and don't go out on those big machines that you like to play with.  Rest and eat good home cooked food.

The storm is not bothering us much but is giving the NC coast some trouble.  Right now here inland we have a nice gentle rain...just like we really needed...and hardly any wind.  Hope the storm moves on by tomorrow so I can get to the grocery store otherwise we might starve.   :o

Winter before last when I was in the hospital for emergency surgery, I couldn't vouch for or against the food.  They never fed me!  All I got was a lot of liquid in my arm and then they took it all out through a hose in the nose.  I did have a cup of coffee the last day I was there and some crachers and broth.  Not much you can do to ruin crackers and broth.

Enjoy the food, Lloyd!  At least they're feeding you.

When my then-5-year-old son had to have his appendix removed, he said they fed him "chicken flavored hot water" at the hospital.

Lloyd,  so sorry you're having more health issues.  Please "behave yourself" and do as you're told.  We want you around for a long time to come.

I'm on the run but want to warn Lloyd that they are not kidding about being careful with that "rat poison" in you to dissolve the blood clot.... Tell Nancy I hope she doesn't let you peel potatoes or do anything until that stuff gets through your system.... you can bleed internally if you fall or cut yourself!  I don't know anything about oxygen but looks like you can get plenty of advice in here if you need it over the holidays.  You were missed but like the others, figured you were busy with all the jobs you have lined up.  Take care!

Phyllis, I don't know anything about that medicine, when I need to "take the edge off" I just take a 325mg of Bayer or Bufferin.  Works as a blood thinner for me.

Joan, I guess my A-fib was fixed with the valve surgery.  When commercials talk about some pill they are selling they always say "not for A-fib cause by heart valve".

Got a big pot of spaghetti sauce cooked in case I need to feed the army.  Baby Kate's Baptism is Sunday so will be a lot of people gathered (not at my house!!!)  We have a church picnic on Labor Day, catered & always   lots of good food plus a "petting zoo" and the blow up play houses for kids.  Huge tents for shade & at the end, they get the fire department to come "spray" from the tallest ladder so kids & parents can play under if they want.  They have baskets of chalk for kids to write on the sidewalks & parking lot plus baskets of other toys and bubbles....  It is a new parish but lots of people, I'll take a camera.

Larry, hope the ultrasound finds nothing wrong.... know it is necessary to see how some of the meds works.  Extra prayers that you & Pat have a better tomorrow.

Hal, I've had that conversation with my kids about money & they insist they had a great life.... and I feel the same way about growing up during WWII.  Love was thick enough to hide any lack of money.

I decided I am home for the day. I have changed into leisure clothing and just laying down and reading. My cleaning girl was in early to give me fresh linen and change the bed, then she came back this afternoon and cleaned my bathroom. She told me I keep a very clean bathroom. Force of habit, I guess. We had so much out of town company, year after year, with just one bathroom it was essential to keep it nice and clean.

I have nothing of interest to report.

Lloyd I do hope you will be able to go home today. I agree, there is no place like home.

Time to go lay down again and just enjoy my books. June

Stopping in to say hello......I'm sorry to hear so many are having health problems.

Phyllis -  I also have supraventicular tachycardia and have taken metaprolol for several years. There are two types of tachycardia and I was told that this one is not life threatening. I have a friend who has been in the hospital a couple of times with the other one. (Can't remember the name). With my first episode, my heart rate went up to 200. Very scary! (edit) Just Googled it. The other one is ventricular tachycardia.)

Lloyd - This is a good place to come when you need cheering up.  :) Hope the meds take care of the blood clot. The oxygen may also make you feel better.

We've had a bit of an ordeal today. My husband had three teeth extracted (after taking halcion as prescribed). I wish he'd gone to an oral surgeon as they had problems with the extractions. Something about the bones in his upper jaw. He was in the dentist chair for more than two hours. Right now he's sitting in his recliner sleeping. He's not even distracted by noises!

Except for some wind and a lot of rain Hurricane Hermine missed us. There were several tornado warnings last night.

Jane S. - I've enjoyed reading about your canning. I used to do a lot of it but gave up when I didn't have a garden anymore. My granddaughter in Vermont just canned dilly beans and pickled beets. She's the one who canned the fiddleheads last spring. Also, I was very touched by your granddaughter's apology. So sweet! I have a 9 yr. old g-granddaughter.

Joan - Hope you at least got some rain out of this storm.

Well Lloyd just like you, we leave you alone for a little while and you get yourself in trouble.  And it seems the hospital cant make up their mind if they want to keep you or send you home.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are progressing.

Well my youngest came by along with her husband, they had been to the doctors to get a checkup on her operation.  He pronounced her doing well and didn't need to see her until her six week checkup.

We took them to dinner and they left directly to Del Rio.  I fear they had to fight bad weather all the way.  We have had heavy rain here this afternoon.  And we almost had a very bad accident coming home from lunch.  Some idiot took a turn into the road we were on while we were setting there waiting for traffic to clear and he lost it on the wet road and stopped just short of a headon collision.
Wife was driving and in her new car.  It was close.

Anyhow, it appears the rain is here for the weekend.

Jeanne Lee--When I have to attach a new nose piece,  it hurts until it adjusts to my structure.  I don't wear glasses or have hearing aids, but when the canula is new, it hurts--again until it adjusts.

Lloyd--I am sure you are glad to be going home.  Take things very easy until you get used to the new equipment and medicine.

Janie--Guess you had to be very careful what you ate until you healed.

Callie--Chicken flavored hot water isn't very filling.:)

June--Glad you were up and about today.

Shirley--You sure have an activity filled weekend coming up.

Beverly--I guess Metaprolol is used for a variety of heart problems.  Too bad Chape didn't to to an oral surgeon for his extractions.  We did get a couple rain showers.

Hi angelface.

halkel--That would be terrible if there had been an accident with a brand new car.

Beverly, I can associate with how your good husband is feeling about now.  I too went through a siege similar to his in the dental chair. It can be very, very draining, and leave many dreaded memories behind. I hope he keeps resting so he can properly recover.

Hal, I'm thanking God that the idiot that could have caused a serious accident for you and your wife did not manage to do so. I just can't figure why some people can be so ignorant as to take chances driving on wet roads and be so  careless.

Patricia, now that is one BIG pumpkin.I wonder how many pies that would make.

Bis, I wonder if it would help to heat the canula with hot water before it is insertered, that may soften the plastic ? a bit before it is inserted and adjust to the individual nose channel ? Yes, Bis, I don't want to just lay around like a lump so i try to do something more active..like participating here.

To all of you who commented on Kiran's apology...it's more important to me than anyone knows.  This little gal lacks for nothing.  She is an only child and a long awaited one by my son.  He wanted nothing more than to be a "DADDY" for a long long time and he is a very good one but also an indulgent one.  She is also the only girl grandchild on the one side of her mother's family and the only grandchild on the other side of her mother's family.  All of her cousins on this side were pretty well grown up when she came along.  I think I might be the only one who doesn't indulge her because I simply can't afford it.  She is made to mind and to do chores at home and she does them without comment most of the time although like most kids this age she strikes bargains.  Apologizing was a major step forward.  She had apologized before but mostly after being told to do so.  This time was totally her own!  I think we are beginning to really know one another!

Now I'm also off to bed!  I wish you all a peaceful rest and a happy awakening.  May God bless us every one!

I received an email from Kelly, asking me to please copy and post the following message on Norm's B&T, Soda Shoppe and the Games Board.

Dear S&F members

It is over four months since I posted on seniors and friends, because of health issues.  When I am able to return I cannot say, but in time I will post again if on a much reduced basis than I used to.

I now live in the United Kingdom in a community helping with health matters.  Replying to members by emails is not possible at the moment for me because of these health matters and my inability to use voice recognition.

I am unable to access S&F as I have lost my username and password.  If anyone has asked about me, I thank you.

Regards

CHUCKLES

This House

"This house," said the real estate salesman, "has both its good points and its bad points. To show you I'm honest, I'm going to tell you about both.
The disadvantages are that there is a chemical plant one block south and a stockyard one block north."

"What are the advantages?" inquired the prospective buyer.

"The advantage is that you can always tell which way the wind is blowing."

Food For Thought

Purity

By John Kuperus
Scripture Reading: Judges 16:1-22

[Samson] did not know that the Lord had left him.
Judges 16:20
The story of Samson in the book of Judges is full of intrigue. Looking at Samson’s story can give us great insights into how his private life affected his public life as a leader of God’s people.
Samson had a specific calling, to lead in the deliverance of Israel from the enemy Philistines. He was also to be a Nazirite, which meant he was not to touch alcohol, his hair was never to be cut, and he was not to do anything unclean. All of this meant he was specially set apart to serve the Lord. (See Judges 13:1-5.)
But Samson did not lead a pure life. He ate honey from the carcass of a lion, making him unclean. He slept with a prostitute. Then he fell in love with a Philistine woman, and she tried to learn the secret of his great strength. Eventually she wore him down, and he revealed that his hair had never been cut. When she cut his hair, “his strength left him.” The Philistines then blinded him and made him a slave, for “the Lord had left him.”
What we do in private makes an impact on all the areas of our life. We need to come clean before the Lord, asking for forgiveness and resolving to live in a way that shows we are God’s people.
Is God at the center of your private life as well as your public life?
Father, nothing is hidden from you. Help us to learn from Samson’s story that we need to be faithful to you. Give us a discerning heart to follow you in all areas of our life. In Jesus, Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Lots of people "beat me up" this morning!  Funny!  I don't feel "beat up"!  :)

So happy to hear from Kelly!  Just as with the rest of you, I was very worried about him and like Jackie, I was fearing the worst.

Lloyd, might you be able to rent part of your farm to someone who wants to farm and that would generate some income for you so you could relax and enjoy life a bit.  I'm sure you have always enjoyed being outside and doing the work you did but you could still do some of it on a smaller scale.  It's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

All I have on my agenda today is to ride along with my daughter Cathy to Williamsport (about a half hour) to my cousin's house.  She has inherited an antique settee that used to belong to my Great Aunt Dolly and is picking it up today.  A time to spend with my daughter and a visit with a favorite cousin.  Always a special event to spend time with family...especially a cousin I hardly ever get to see.

I hope you all have a day as special as mine will be.

The storm has moved on past us.  I'm pretty tired of non-stop rain.  The wind wasn't too high but did bring down a couple of limbs that hit the deck and made me jump.

Beverly, thank you very much for that information.  It is very reassuring and I'll find out more about it on Wed. when I see the cardiologist.

Glad to get news of Kelly but sorry to hear that he is having even more health issues.  I hope that he will improve and be able to get back here soon.

Amy--Good morning.  Yikes--39°.  We very seldom get that low here.  If it goes below 60° I switch from a/c to heat.  I'd guess you have your winter clothes out.

Good morning, Janie.  Glad you don't feel "beat up".:)  Enjoy your time with family today.

Phyllis--Good morning.  You are getting too much rain, and we are not getting enough.  Weather is sure fickle.  I hope those limbs that hit the deck didn't do any damage.

Good Morning,

If I have to be awakened at 7:08 a.m.,  I'd rather be "stirred not shaken" (to paraphrase James Bond).
A 5.6 earthquake hit northern Oklahoma at that time and rattled things all over Oklahoma and in surrounding states.
Shirley probably felt it as much or more than I did.
The two Grands at Oklahoma State in Stillwater are pretty close to the epi-center but I haven't seen a Facebook comment from either of them.

Marilyne,  thanks for the message from Kelly.  I wish the best for him in his new circumstances.

Lloyd,  so glad to see you posting again.  I also wish you the best and hope this is just a temporary set-back.

Guess I'll get the day started - although I don't yet know what I'm going to do with it.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Well I have no Idea what is happening here....Another hospital referral letter has dropped though my door, not exactly been expecting any....This is another Diagnostic Imaging Department....stating an appointment has been made for this Thursday to have US Pelvis TA and Transvaginal at the same hospital I had my last set just a month or two ago....Of course being a Saturday, I cant get in touch with either the phone number on my letter, nor my GP surgery to find out if this was sent out by mistake or whether my local doctor had ordered it, if so, she never mentioned it....Now I have to wait till Monday, three days before app, date....I can only assume this has been sent out as part of my November Urology appointment...Why cant previous notes be forwarded on? so that they are made aware of what if anything has already been done, and of course its results......

LARRY HANNA....my office chair is on a swivel back, as long as I am laying back I feel safe but, I have fallen asleep when perched forwards, my head has at times pinged forwards towards the desk, and at a force, so just missing hitting it....and I have just stopped short of falling off my chair...

Joanie, you are exactly right!  Cathy is kind and considerate and thoughtful, too.  That's why she's so good at her job!  All the Seniors love her!

Hi everyone from a soggy but cool South Carolina.  We had 3 inches of rain yesterday as it rained without stopping for about 12 hours.  Today we have blue skies and a temperature of 67 with a high of only 84 predicted for this afternoon.

I did go back yesterday afternoon and had the ultrasound done, which took all of maybe 10 minutes.  I had attended to do some cooking when I got home but just wasn't feeling up to it and so we settled for a scrambled eggs, green onions, bacon bits and cheese for dinner with some fresh cantaloupe.  It actually made a very good meal and I am sure we will have it that way again.

Today I will go to COSTCO for more items, including a big block of cheddar cheese that I need to make the sausage muffins for Pat's breakfast and a few other items.  Then I plan to get some cooking done and get things in order for our dinner tonight.  I will watch some college football this afternoon and then this evening Georgia plays so may watch a little of that game.  I was shocked to find yesterday morning that South Carolina had come back with 55 seconds left to beat Vanderbilt as didn't have a good first half and I had turned it off then.  The pro football season starts next week.

If you haven't seen Pat's posting on Facebook I will share with you all that she spent 8 hours in the ER Thursday night.  Fortunately Paul was there with her.  She did not say the reason for the trip to the ER.

Joan, it was my fault about the fasting as had just forgotten which appointment that I was to fast for as have another appointment with the doctor on Tuesday where they will do blood testing before and I was thinking I needed to fast for that test.  Glad your property wasn't damaged by the storm.  I wonder how ShirleyN survived the storm as apparently Tallahassee was hit.  We have friends from our Sunday School class who moved to Pensacola about two weeks ago.  I sure hope they and their families there are OK.

Lloyd, glad you are home and were able to survive another scare with the blood clot.  That is serious business.  You were not forgotten but time passes so quickly anymore that several days can pass before I realize someone is missing.  Glad you have the laptop to use. Glad you didn't have to spend the holiday weekend in the hospital.

Amy, another 80% off sale on fabric.  How can you stand it?  :)

Shirley, I really don't know what the doctor is expecting to see on the ultrasound.  At least it will be another part of me checked out.

Beverly, I think my wife takes the Metaprolol for her fast heart beat and can really tell the difference if she misses a dose.  I do hope Chape hasn't been in too much pain with the teeth extractions.  Also glad you missed any damage from the Hurricane.

Hal, the almost accident must have really scared you all.  That would not have been a nice thing to happen to your wife's new car much less any damage to the passengers.

Callie, you all are having way too many earthquakes.  When I lived there in the 60's for two years I don't remember ever having an earthquake.

Good morning, Callie.  Glad you had no damage from the earthquake and sorry you were shaken awake.  I hope your grands near the epi-center are OK.

Vanilla-Jackie--Seems your medical caregivers are not in sync with you and your appointments.

Janie--How lucky the folks are at your daughter's workplace to have her.

Good morning, Larry.  I saw on the National news that your are had lots of rain.  You are becoming a great meal planner and cook!!  I saw Pat's post on Facebook and wondered why she had to go to the ER.

Have had a report from the Dad of the two OSU Grands.

The house where Miss Emily lives shook a lot.

Grandson (Carson) "thought" he'd slept through it.  ;D

The mother of one of his roommates is a friend of the family and had texted them to ask Carson to have her son call because he wasn't responding to texts and phone calls.
Carson said,  "Right now??  He's snoring really loud!"   Mom laughed when she got the report.

Miss Ellen had posted on Facebook that it woke her up in Tulsa.

Reports are that it was felt in surrounding states.

I've already mentioned that Shirley (in Kansas) may have felt something.

Lloyd,  Your town in Missouri isn't that far from the Oklahoma border. Did you feel anything?

I hope Hurricane Hermine isn't bothering any of the Soda Shoppers -or other S&F friends.

Onward and Upward.

Janie, I am so happy for you, and the incident that occurred with our sweet Hooligan. She needs you in her life of many induigences. She is learning early that there are more than one side of things in all of life, and that is a wonderful lesson. My Susie was an only child on all sides of the family, with a rather wealthy Auntie, till her little brother was born, and she found the world did not circulate around her only. There was competition between the two of the little ones, till the third one came into the picture, then the first two joined hands. I wish I could have had three more.

Patricia, thanks for the info. I thought it would be much more than forty pies, but when you consider there are also seeds, membrane and heavy rind, I guess it would take much more that a standard Halloween pumpkin to make a pie. Mine always came in a can.

Marilyne , thank you  so much for the report on Kevin Kelly. I am sorry his conditioned has worsened, but we can always hope for improvement.

Bis, I can associate with "The House". I lived behind the stock yards in Chicago for four years, and there were days when the stench was horrible. We were SO delighted to be transported back to sunny, smoggy, So. Ca.  And now even the smog has cleared to a great degree.

Lloyd, My Mom had an oxygen machine like yours with the long cord. You do have to be very cautious as to where you step, but it at least gives you the freedom to move from one area of the house to others. Do watch your step on the stairs. Too back they don't have an automatic retractable cord on those things, or do they now ?

Callie, 5.6 is a strong quake, I am sure there was a great deal of "shake, rattle and roll" going on. I do hope there was no great damage.

I am so sorry to hear our Pat had to go to the E.R. Thank God that Paul was with her. Does Paul ever post in here ? I am seriously thinking of joining Facebook, even though my son Dan advised against it. What do those of you who belong think of my joining..yes or no ??

I wasn't going to take notes to write a book this morning but so much going on I want to
comment about ....

Just read your message about Pat, Larry, and so grateful you mentioned it since I do not do Facebook.  We do worry about this family almost as much as the blood kin, don't we?  I know you take care of yourself and your Pat, and hopefully she will be better soon and can do more to share the daily "to-dos".

Callie, I slept with the sliding door in my bedroom wide open all night, was awake when the quake hit but at first thought it was a big wind gust ... it didn't stop.  This house sits on sand and it carries sound and motion more than clay, so the shaking went on for quite a bit, gave me time for lots to run through my mind.  The wall of folding wooden doors to the closet were slightly ajar (so one cat can slip in to sleep), (but all cats were out at the time) the doors kept shimmying, same time sounded like hail on the roof (I don't know what that was~).  When I have the door open I can hear a train over a mile away during the night, and can feel the movement as it rolls through town about 4:00 am.  Went through my mind it might have been a train derailment.  When all was still I grabbed my Ruger & went through the house in case it was someone popping one of the sliding doors off (how burglars got in the other time).  I was pretty sure it was a quake but "better safe than sorry".  All's well but will have to check for foundation damage with as hard as it shook.  Had a phone call from my brother in Overland Park, they also felt it big time.  I've already straightened some paintings & photos as I passed by going through the house.   EDIT: Another call from Independence (east of KC on MO side) that felt the quake, too.

I did get my weed whip put together but could not figure how to adjust the length, it just does not have directions with it, silly, right?

Lloyd, I know keeping busy is what keeps you going so will only warn you that rat poison you are taking right now is dangerous.  Any fall can bring on internal bleeding so do a lot of sitting or walking where you can hang onto something while taking that stuff.  Most of us in here have had experience with just about anything others go through so good place to learn from them.  Take care & keep in touch.

Thank you, Marilyne, for the message from Kevin, sorry he can't keep in touch but hopefully he will be able to read that we have all missed him and wish him better health!  I know it is possible to read without being able to post so maybe if you send a link to Senior & Friends he will be able to copy & paste it to be able to read.  I would guess if he's using a community computer he won't be able to bookmark the site but if it comes in e-mail he can always go to the e-mail to copy & paste in Google & find us to read.  While waiting for my oil change this week I used a computer (whole bank of them) at the dealership... I did Google for the link but did not want to login & have it left on their computer, so just read what y'all had to say.

Jackie, I would be just as frustrated as you are with incompetency, so sorry you have to face it every day.

Have had several phone calls to see if I had damage from the quake.... better go have a look around.  Can't believe the whole morning is shot & I've been sitting at the computer & talking on the phone the entire time.  Shame on me!!!  Be back later..... Shirley

June--So far as I know there is no oxygen delivery system with retractable tubing.  I have liquid oxygen (pure oxygen and no electricity required).  Lloyd and Jeanne Lee have the concentrator which takes oxygen from the air and requires electricity.  You, yourself, must make the decision about facebook.  I like it because I find out what my kids, grandchildren, cousins etc. are doing.

Shirley--You must have had a mostly sleepless night and a busy day with family contacts so far today.

Amy--I'd say that fabric purchase was a HUGE bargain.  Thanks for the link.

I like some aspects of Facebook but I've never really been happy with and now I've dropped entirely because I got hacked.

There you have 2 opinions, June.  As Joanie said, you have to make up your own mind.

I'll give you my opinion about Facebook too, June.  I joined for the same reason that Joan did....so I could find the news about my family back in KS.  But, I didn't like it, thought it was too intrusive, so dropped it.  I don't go there or hear from it at all now.  It is your decision to try it.

Hello everyone. My grandson just left and I am on the PC once again. Have things to install again. Of course the contact list was wiped out.  All they did was set this lemon back to the original, no mew hard drive. Real cheap company.  Time to start saving again, don't know how long this will last this time.  Got Skype in so will be able to see my daughter today. If anyone wants to email me please use the address in my profile. Still do not have the Cox ready and might not bother with it. Have to download Open Office again but that is an easy one. I wonder if I will bother installing PSP again. After all the trouble I had getting every thing installed twice this lemon quit.

The PC came back yesterday and I called my Grandson. He called this morning and said he would be here soon and he die just that. I have 3 different mouses (mice) and all three do not want to work the way they should. He suggested I get a new one. Like I can get out. I know I can call or go online ti Staples and order one and they deliver. The 2 wireless ones are worse than the wired one but the darn wire is always in my way.

Read some posts but too many to go back a week or more.

LARRY  I did not see a link you posted for Shirley and Jane. Could you do it again or sent it to me please?

LLOYD  I did not know you were in the hospital until I get in here today. My computer went back to HP to be fixed. What they did I could have done, too. Take care of yourself.

JOAN  hope there are some lemon DD's in the hidey hole. I sure miss your goodies every morning but like what you posted this morning. Thank you.

AMY  JON  left me some lemon DD's on the hidey hole. She is very thoughtful like that. Hope Gloria de had a couple, too.

PHYLLIS  the clouds from Hermine started showing up here late yesterday. The weather guessers here still do not know what will get here. I wonder how they know it will stall, but that is what all local ones are saying. Last I heard rain sill start late Sunday and into Monday. They are expecting strong rip currents and telling everyone not to go into the water this week end. With a lot of shoreline so many head there on this weekend every year.

CALLIE  no fun being shaken awake by an earthquake. Happened once when I was visiting my daughter in San Diego. Woke in the middle of the night with the bed shaking.

JUNE  I have Facebook but only to see family. Do not check out anything else. Not interested in people I do not know who is a friend of this one or that one.

AMY  great link, thanks.

June,  I am on Facebook and have enjoyed keeping up with my family and a few friends/relatives whom I know in real life.  I've also begun using the Message program (if that what it's called) for  quick contact between those friends/relatives.

I do NOT like all the recipes/patriotic/inspirational/political, etc. etc."shares" and the "click if you agree/disagree" things that many of my "friends" post, so my settings are such that I do not automatically see all that stuff.  I'm notified if one of them has posted something and then it's my choice to read it or not.  (Usually not!)
(Sorry if this hits at some of my S&L friends - but, there it is.)

Shirley,  you're in more of a direct line from the earthquake epi-center than I am (and, maybe, a bit closer).  I stopped reading the stories.....too many to keep up with.

Glad to see you back, Gloria.

I expect to hear from Hal any time now - since the Houston (TX) University football team trounced my Oklahoma Sooners.   :tissue:

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are trouncing their opponents.
Back to see if anyone in my family appears in a crowd shot.  Except for Miss Ellen, who is in performance, they're all there.

Gloria, I've said this before since my lemon experience with Gateway. When you send a computer back to the company, they like each and every computer company, does not do any diagnostics at all, ever. What you will receive back is a new computer that has been set to the original modifications and then sent back to you.

What that means is, if the error was in the initial configuration of your computer then each and every new one sent will continue to have that same mistake and will crash or stop working again.

You would be better off returning the PC and asking for your money back.

Welcome back Gloria.  There's plenty of the lemon DDs in the hidey hole.  I think you're right that the computer company is cheap.  All they do is restore to the way it was originally--which was corrupt.

Callie--I don't like all those recipes, political stuff etc. on Facebook either.  For sure halkel will be in to remind you who won.:)

Angelface--I think you exactly right about the computer.

Bis, Jane and Phyllis, thank you all for your opinions of Facebook. Since Dan knows me pretty well, and advised against it, I think I will forget about it. My days are disappearing so quickly lately, either because I am slowing up, or spending more time reclining and reading, I would probably not have use for another program.

Gloria, it is always a joy to read your messages and know you are doing o.k., with the exception of that lousy computer. I hope you can get a different brand completely, and I wish it could be an Apple brand. Those that I know that have them never seem to have a problem, and mine is seven years old now…getting a bit slow in start-up, but then so am I, so we make a good team..me and my iMac.

I was looking forward to going down at 6:30 to enjoy the music of George Rossi, but I am already in my "at home" clothes, so I'll forget it. Too tired to do my dancing anyhow. I keep telling myself I'm still just 91 years young, but something inside grins at me says, "keep kidding yourself, but stay home and behave."

Tomorrow is Chuch, otherwise it will be another day of rest. I think I'll put in my monthly grocery order, that will keep me occupied for a couple of hours.

I decided that I'd had enough of someone else's problems a while back and I had some young fellows build me a computer with just what I wanted on it.  They added a few things I hadn't thought about but that I do use.  And since they are right here in town, upgrades and cleanups are easy, fast and don't cost me an arm and a leg.  Most things they can do remotely and I don't even have to take it in.  I have been very happy with it and with the guys who are very patient with this old lady.  In fact, I get the impression that they like me.  If they roll their eyes behind my back, I never see it.  I would never go back to a purchased computer complete.  They have even advised me against some things that I thought I might like and I found they were right.  That was 6 years ago that I bought this one and i'm still happy with it.

And now, I'm off to Dreamland!  I wish you all a peaceful rest and a happy day tomorrow.  May God bless us, every one!

Gloria, hope the computer holds up.  You certainly have had your share of problems.
