Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Welcome into seniors and friends.  I hope your friends in Australia enjoy the cloggers of my home town. I get into a forum there daily and enjoy seeing what goes on.

Vanilla-Jackie.  Finlay is getting so big--almost as tall as I am.  He loved the two week camp and wanted to stay longer, but school starts this week.  He says he wants to be a doctor. :)  He has a LONG time to decide.  Luckily he's a good student--all A's so far.

Well darn,  Joan....   You were so looking
forward to seeing your family,  and the sky fell in!

But,  the good news is that they were there to help
you through this,  and Joe will be helping you
with the car and be back in a month.

I presume that the AC is fixed now so that you
can be comfortable all over your home.
(at least I hope so) ...

I remember the hot and humid Summers
when I lived in Bradenton,  FL,  and I
would have had to leave home if the AC
failed August.

The closet "project" is way over due ..  The
hardest part was going through all those clothes,
trying them on, packing them up and
taking them downstairs to the thrift shop.

As I had already replaced one closet door,
taking this door off and putting up the
curtains was easy.    I happen to have  a
small closet where I can store the folding
doors..   so that project is done.

It is so nice to have a nice clean organized
closet!!   (Wish it would stay that way!)

Good afternoon, I had to come in here and tell you the good news, Jess stood up to day on his own for the first time.  I just got the call a little while ago. Last week he had another kidney infection, so he recieved no Rehab. I know it is not much, but after all these months it is great news.

JeanneLee, was also so happy to see your post. Recovery can take a long time, I know when I had my Heart attack and renal failuer.  I was a couple of months.

Joan, at lest it is a good tired.  Glad your family was there when your A/C went. I am sure you got it fixed much faster.

June, The doctor did find that the wound was still infected, and I am back on meds for that.  I know I take a long time to heal, like you I have very poor circulation in my legs.

Gloria, I do not think I have ever seen a bad movie with those two.

Welcome back, JeanneLee!

Welcome to North America, Bubble!

To those of you who are telling me to say "No"...I wonder what you would do if you were faced with a similar situation.  It's harder to say now than one can imagine!

First of all..... what a great way to start the reads with a photo of our Happy Hearts!  Thanks for sharing you moment today, Bubble & Don, truly, thank you for the smile.  I never saw 16 year olds look any happier!

Janie, we are our brothers keepers when they come to the door hungry, but we can't make their decisions and we can't even judge if they are right or dumb or what...... Give yourself a break.... those pups are your responsibility, and YOU!  Hugs while you make the transition.   ;)

Oops... phone call so must go.

JoanFL

Sandy--If the a/c took more than a better part of one day to fix, I would have to go to a neighbor's or a hotel.  Much harder for me because I have to have the oxygen, the nebulizer etc.  I have so may clothes that are too big, and must get rid of them.

Radioman--Wonderful picture of you and Bubble.  I am so very happy for you both.

Linedancer--Wonderful news that Jessie stood up on his own.  Every little progress is GOOD news.

Janie--Unless we've walked in your shoes, we wouldn't know what we'd do.

Hi Shirley.

Vanilla-Jackie--I think it's good for all to have goals.

Jane,  it is so easy for people to tell you what to do.  Only you know in your heart if you are doing the right thing.  And, nobody knows what they would do until they are faced with a similar problem.  YOU do what you think you have to do.  And,  try not to worry what
somebody else "thinks".  It may not be what they would do, but you have to do what you think.   I learned a long time ago, that you don't have to agree with something, to accept it.  And, believe me, that gets me through many, many difficult situations.

(((((((((hugs))))))))))) to you.

I 2nd what Joy said (she is so wise)...... I wouldn't be feeding the cat world if I listened to myself!   :crazy2:

Linedancer.... didn't have time to cheer with you about "standing alone".... that is progress for sure.

I'm off to feed my world.... if I can get it all in the car..... Joan, sorry the AC went out... that is a panic, isn't it?  Mine cost me $300 for the labor to put in a little "compaceter? sp?  that was under warranty & probably from China.....he warned it would only continue the length of the original warranty (maybe another year?)  Took him just a few minutes to install, had the part with him so probably almost routine for this hot weather.....my son had already ruled out any other problems.  Made son realize just how much he's been saving me & all his friends.... I pay him but not that much!   ::)

Time to go.  Hold the fort, cats haven't made it for supper so they will eat late tonight..

Hi everyone.  I don't usually post twice a day but have a commitment in the morning so will have limited time. We had a brief but very heavy downpour a little after 4:30.  Fortunately, it had stopped by the time we left to get Pat to her 5 pm chiropractor appointment.

My 10 am appointment with the doctor this morning turned out to be a longer delay than the one last week.  I didn't get to see the doctor until about 12:30.  However, I really liked the doctor and it appears we won't be doing much now other than an ultrasound of the liver and some additional blood tests, which can be done in his office on the day I will see him again in a month.  I stopped and had a chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A and then went to Walmart to pick up prescriptions that Pat needed.  When I got home I was more than ready to rest and was able to get a brief nap.

Only brief comments tonight as am very weary.  I loved the picture of Don and Bubble.  JaneS, I also agree totally with the words that Joy shared regarding doing what we think is right and disregard what others say.  Joan, sure glad you got the A/C fixed and had a nice time with your family.  DeAngel, sorry to hear the infection is still active in your leg.  Hope everyone has a good evening and rests well tonight.

CallieOK

Don,  what a joyous happy picture of your and your angel.  She looks so pretty!   :couple:

Janie,  you are the one who knows what you must do - and we are the ones who will be here to support you - and....as a friend of mine says,  "Awfulize" with you.    :hugs:   :smitten:  and wishing you :calm:

I've made Amish potato salad for my son's day-after-birthday lunch tomorrow.  Might have to taste-test with my dinner.   :)

JaneS

Thanks Callie for the hugs and for the awfulizing!  Today was a pretty good day.  Beverly spent it with her sister and they just now brought her back.  I've had time to gather my wits and that's good.  They were off in all corners of the house and I was beginning to think some of them had escaped into outer space, never to return.  But they're back!

Jane, you know best, no one else.

Having said that, may I make a suggestion? Sometimes breathing exercises work to calm and relax, Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, slowly and quietly and it should help to relax you.

Just wanted to tell you that we made it home safe and sound.  The Phoenix area had some terrible storms, but we managed to travel to the airport safely and my dad made it back home safely.  Thank God.

The flight was a bit rough also and the seat belt sign stayed illuminated through out the flight.  We arrived to very dark skies here upon our arrival.  Mark and Megan picked us up so we got home in a short time.

JOAN, sorry to read about your A/C problems.  So glad Kate and Joe were there to help, you out.

CALLIE, I appreciate your comment regarding feeling just like my dad....that was sweet of you and I truly do understand.  The last thing my dad said to me is, "thank you so much for being understanding"!

JANIE....HUGS to you!

I am bushed, so will say good night to EVERYFRIEND.

Good morning, JACKIE.  I wish you a wonderful Wednesday.

CHUCKLES
At the Post Office

Working at the post office, I'm used to dealing with a moody public.

So when one irate customer stormed my desk, I responded in my calmest voice, "What's the trouble?"

"I went out this morning," she began, "and when I came home I found a card saying the mailman tried to deliver a package but no one was home. I'll have you know, my husband was in all morning! He never heard a thing!"

After apologizing, I got her parcel.

"Oh good!" she gushed. "We've been waiting for this for ages!"

"What is it?" I asked.

"My husband's new hearing aid."

Food For Thought

Burn The Ships
By M. Moneypenny)

Over the years, I have found that there are two "never fail" places where I can have an uninterrupted conversation with the Lord - on the treadmill and in the shower. Why the treadmill is anyone's guess but I have always thought the shower was a natural (no pun intended) place to let my thoughts wander. For me, it's a great place to unwind and allow myself to think about things beyond schedules, appointments, etc. And as for the treadmill, I guess that walking on the treadmill is so monotonous that my mind is available in ways that it isn't during the rest of the day!?!?!? So with that said, picture this.

Treadmill torture at the gym - hair pulled back in a ponytail, water bottle within reaching distance and headphones turned up far beyond a safe listening level as I play a Steven Curtis Chapman tape. All at once, my ears do a double take - "What did he just say?" - feet off the treadmill, grab the safety bar with one hand and rewind the tape with the other... "Did he say burn the ships? What in the world does that mean?" I must have stood at that silly treadmill machine for ten minutes rewinding that tape back and forth trying to catch a glimpse of what he was really saying. I finally gave up, turned off my headphones and went to the locker room in frustration. Burn the ships...burn the ships...

A portion of "Burn the Ships" by Steven Curtis Chapman -
Written by Steven Curtis Chapman and James Isaac Elliott. Copyright 1994 Sparrow Song.

"In the spring of 1519 a Spanish fleet set sail

Cortez told his sailors this mission must not fail

On the eastern shore of Mexico they landed with great dreams

But the hardships of the new world made them restless and weak

Quietly they whispered, "Let's sail back to the life we knew"

But the one who led them there was saying:

Burn the ships, we're here to stay

There's no way we could go back

Now that we've come this far by faith

Burn the ships, we've passed the point of no return

Our life is here

So let the ships burn..."

Ah ha! "So let the ships burn..." In other words, deny the impulse to go back to what we depended on before...I get it!

As Christians we are not supposed to depend on our flesh (our thoughts, ways, desires, methods, etc.) anymore. We have Christ. But the impulse, the desire to depend upon our flesh to meet our needs rather than depending on Christ is a very real and strong urge.

We are not alone. Think about the sons of Israel. In the second chapter of Exodus, we see that the sons of Israel have cried out to God for deliverance from their bondage in Egypt (Exodus 2:23). They are clearly looking to God for His provision. Well, you know the story - God answers their cries through His servant, Moses. But you know what? If we look throughout the book of Exodus and even over into Numbers, we will find that when the children of Israel found themselves in difficult circumstances, their immediate reaction was relatively predictable. Even when they were sitting on the edge of the Promised Land, they responded this way. Numbers 14:3 tells us, "And why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?'" They had forgotten again how desperate they had been to leave Egypt and how miserable their lives had been there. So, could we say that their first impulse or reaction was similar to Cortez's men as depicted in Stephen Curtis Chapman's song..."let's sail back to the life we once knew"? Can we also say that very often our first reaction to difficult times or unfamiliar territory is to turn back to what was familiar to us?

In Christ, we have been given the very resource for living and He lives inside each one of us. We now have a choice that we never had before we became Children of the Living God. We can choose to walk after the flesh or we can live by the Spirit. In other words, we can either "sail back to the life we once knew" or we can "burn the ships"!

So, I have just one question. Anyone got a match?

I think I am picking up your habit of getting up very early, Joan.  I woke up during the night, read a little, stared at the ceiling a little, and then got up just before 4 o'clock.  I'll probably do some recliner time this afternoon and catch up.  I don't have any appointments so I'll just spend some time to rest.  I hope you have managed to rest and recuperate from the AC troubles and the excitement of seeing the kids again for awhile.  It was so lucky that they were there to deal with the AC repairs for you.

Glad you got a little quiet time yesterday, Jane, to gather all those wits that had scurried away.  I hope that a solution to your problem will present itself soon.

I'm glad you are back home, Jenny.  I know you are disappointed that your Dad decided to not make the trip with you but I understand his feelings.  I used to love to go anywhere at anytime but when the body decides it is time to take it easy, then we just have to listen.

I sincerely hope that this will be a very good day for all of the friends here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUNEE!

HAPPY   :party2:  BIRTHDAY   :party2:  JUNEE....

Jane S, once your head is cleared, a solution will come....and you know it will be the right solution....In the meantime, do look after number one....
.....................................

I was feeling a tad tearful early this morning.....I thought of those older than me who are still lucky and privileged to still have their parents...when it dawned on me what a young age I was when I became an " orphan..." I lost my mom when I was 26 - 27, my father at age 36 - 37.....I wonder if my father was still alive, what he would make of my life today, I am sure he would have a few words to say......In five days time my father left me ( not intentionally ) 29 years ago......1987......

JoanFL

Good morning, Phyllis.  Sorry your sleep pattern has changed.  Good you can catch a nap during the day.  I was sure glad the kids were here to help with the problems.  I always check my two big liquid oxygen tanks when I get up in the morning to see how much is left in each.  You press a button and lights come on--from 1 to 8.  The oxygen guy was here Monday and the tank that was empty he supposedly filled.  Well, this morning's check shows that one is bone dry--so either he didn't fill it correctly or the tank is defective.  I'll have to call for service when they open.  GRRRR.....

Good morning, Janie.  I, too, hope you and your WM customers are smiling today.

Amy--Good morning.  Sure glad the van's a/c works.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  I know these special dates are difficult.

I have to get out and do some errands this morning.  It's going to be another HOT one.

Good MOrning Everyone!

A Happy Birthday to you Junee.  Hope you get all the cake you want.

Ah, Janie, good old Wally World.  I went down yesterday to our local one and got a haircut.  They call it "Sports Cut".  a Football theme, but they didn't make look like a dashing quarterback I was hoping for.  Just the over the hill water boy with a fresh haircut...... ::)

Got the trash out, coffee on (its about ready) but it is awful humid out so think I will pass on the patio.

Everyone have a good day.

Mary Ann

Phyllis, I got up about 4 am too, computed for about an hour, went back to bed and went back to sleep.  I hate waking up in the middle of the night and being wide awake.  I even had a cup of my flavored coffee with a cookie.

Junee, I want to add my birthday wishes to those of the others.  As long as we're "able" I think we're fortunate to live this long; you have a couple years on me, I think.

Jane, good luck to you in gathering in all of your wits to make your days better.

To everyone else, I hope you all have a good day.  We are to be in the 90s and we have a family lunch today at a restaurant across town, one I've never heard of.  Tom will use his smart-phone GPS to get us there.
