Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, give my best to your husband.  I do hope he doesn't have to many side affects from his chemo.  Lousy way to spend the Christmas season.  He will be in my prayers, along with you and your family.  Save me a dance, never mind I don't think you would like your toes assaulted.

Lloyd, the sausage sounds good.  I have been using the little gadget that Tisie told us about, bought it on Amazon and it is quick and does the trick.  I use a brown and serve sausage in it and it cooks in one minute along with the egg.  I don't use muffin, just a slice of toast and put the egg and sausage on it.

I had a fairly decent night, up several times, but no coughing and hacking, thank goodness.  I still feel weak as a kitten.  At any rate I hope Janie is doing okay.  You too Joanie, yesterday was the first time I ever had one of those breathing treatments.  It didn't take long.  Still trying to figure out where all the vapors come from, no electricity hooked up, just a long slim oxygen bottle and the breathing tube.

I'm off to get my coffee, would offer some to all of you, but I don't want to share the bug I have.

Vanilla-Jackie

LLOYD HAMMOND,
....seems like we are six hours ahead of you.....

Lloyd Hammond

Hall it sounds good. I see you are up. I left you a message on Skype. it seams to lie it said you were on line bot no answer.?have a good day. I need to fiend a good paying job or a good banker. my taxes will soon be due and i do not have the cash on hand and cattle are down so don't want to sell any of them right now. should have had the foresight to have sold a couple of them when the were high. and put the money on a short term intrastate bearing account. but I can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Have a great day.

Lloyd

Lloyd Hammond

Vanilla-Jackie Thanks . I seam to be a dollar short all the time. can't walk and chew gum at same time either.  you and peter must be in the same time zone that is what he is I think if i am thinking right. Have a great day

Hi everyone on a cold, for us, morning.  It is now up to 32 degrees after getting into the high 20's last night.  Not much on the schedule for today.  The housekeeper will be here this morning.  I have no plans to go anywhere today.  I have things ready to fix Pat's breakfast and have already made my sandwich for lunch and also for tomorrow.  I also fixed some celery sticks.  I think we will likely fix a pot of chili for our dinner tonight.  The BBQ was tasty yesterday. Rather than Pat having to get out and put on a shoe I picked up the dinner for us and we had it at home. Pat said the pain in her big toe worsened as the day went on.

Sandy, you are lucky to have the four generations of your family and that you can all do things together.  At the table where Scott and I sit at the Wednesday night dinners at church we often have 5 generations present, including the 85 year old great great grandmother.  We also have a lady that is 95 who sits at the same table.

JeanneP, you lost me with the E-M accounts.  Are you referring to email?

Jackie, that sounds like quite a lunch and it appears you really enjoyed it especially the Bucks Fizz.  I had to look that up to see what it was.

Callie, I don't care for Brussels sprouts either so Jackie could have had a triple portion.  I had enough BBQ in my order to share with you had you been here but since you weren't I just ate the whole thing.  :)

Hal, was glad to read that you had a better night last night without the cough.  It sounds like rest is in order for you and your wife for a few days to recover.

Amy, it sounds like you had a very caring nurse and doctor to see you quickly so you could get back home before the storm conditions got too bad.  Hope you got your snow blower fixed as winter is just beginning.   Tractors sure have changed a lot since my days on the farm with the old Farmall H tractor.  There was certainly no air conditioning or radio or GPS.

June, sure glad the Doppler test on your veins was OK.

Lloyd, I sure hope that light freezing drizzle doesn't develop.  I remember on the farm when the snow or ice would develop on the backs of the cows and I guess helped keep them warm.  It was always sort of fun to break off the formed ice and snow.  I am sure you know what I am talking about.  These taxes roll around whether we are ready or not.

JaneS, sure hope the rest will help restore you by tomorrow.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  Chili sounds good for a cold day like you're having.  I always make a BIG pot, have a couple days as leftovers and freeze the rest.  I am so sorry Pat has that terrible toe pain.  Is it gout?  I REALLY dislike brussels sprouts so Vanilla-Jackie can have mine too.

Good morning everyone. I think the weather guesser was way off. If I thought it was windy Wednesday night last night was worse. Finally stopped around 4 this morning and that is when I went to sleep. Some gusts sounded like a hurricane.  We did not get any snow either. From what I see on the TV it is 9° . Last night on the news the guesser said it would feel like 15 to 12 below zero with the wind chill.

JOAN  I could have had my coffee with you this morning. Sorry it was a real short visit with Linda. I have my cards ready to write but just does not feel like Christmas is that close.

LARRY  would have loved to see the finished quilt sewed while driving.

SANDY  I will get to see my 18 month old great grandson at Christmas. Last saw him a few months ago and he was teasing me then.

JACKIE  glad you had a wonderful time at the MS Christmas party.  It takes a long time for others to realize we cannot do things like we used to. My sons are just starting to know I just cannot do anything without my rollator and if they want to take me anywhere that has to go with me. They keep telling me I have to eat more and I keep telling them I would if I did't have to try cooking.

JUNE  this is the first year I am not even going to put my Christmas tree in the window. Anything out of the ordinary is getting to be too much work. I sure do not want Joan to give me demerits for work.

CALLIE  not getting out like I used to my address books are a real mess with crossed out names. Oh  boy, I am not the only one whose icons are rearranged after an update.  If I don't realize it at first I go to click on one and cannot find it.

HAL  hope those meds help you.

AMY  hope you get no more snow till your snow blower is working again. It does get a workout in your snowy winters.

LLOYD  you still work too hard.

JACKIE  like you I like brussel sprouts. Do not like kale. My granddaughter does things with brussel sprouts that I  look at and pass on. I like my vegetables to taste like they should.

JOAN  as long as there is bacon in your breakfast this morning I will have some. Chuckles could fit many places these days, love it. Audacious Hope, where would we be if we did not have hope?  Some things we hope for will happen and others we are still waiting for. Good quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  hope today goes well for your DH and travels. Bacon has to be crisp to be really cooked.

HAL  glad you finally had a better night's sleep.

JEANNE LEE  that blanket cocoon is the best place to be when it is that cold.

JANE  rest is what you need. You have been working way too hard.

I am really getting  :tickedoff:  about these discombobulated days!

Woke up this morning with no electric power.  According to clock that works on batteries and one electric one, it had been out for about an hour.  Fortunately, the house hadn't gotten cold.
It came back on about 30 minutes later.

Then my security system began beeping.  Finally found the booklet and it looks like a new battery is needed.
Landscaper son is out on a site but the other son has the day off and can come ......this afternoon.  Beeping isn't loud but surely is annoying.

Last night, the weather service issued a freeze warning for bridges and overpasses and there were lots of wrecks on the "black ice".
It actually warmed up during the night and today is supposed to get near 70º.
However, it's very damp and misty outside - so I don't dare get out to finish Christmas shopping.

Tomorrow, we're supposed to go into the deep freeze again for about 3 days.

I've done some on-line shopping; otherwise, I'd probably be giving IOUs!!!

"Other than that....."  ::)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

JoanFL

Gloria--Your gusting winds sound like what we get in a hurricane.  Sorry they kept you awake.

Callie--Things didn't start out very well for you today.  The beeping from my security system is similar to the beeping of a smoke alarm when it needs a new battery--drives me crazy.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I know it's not morning where I am anymore but at least it feels like a "good morning".  I feel somewhat better and I've had some soup for my lunch (or whatever meal I'm due to be eating).  Still coughing and still have a runny nose but my headache is gone and my throat isn't sore any more (except for the soreness when I cough).  I've decided that I'll feel better when I take a shower and I'm going to go do that as soon as I finish here.

Callie, I won't have to give IOUs for Christmas but I'm afraid that all my gifts will be wrapped in "Wal-Mart Christmas Wrap".  In case you don't know what that is, it's gray plastic bags from WM.  I have a ton of them and they're handy.  I hope that doesn't happen but I sure could use those 4 kids that used to do all my wrapping back in the old days.

We're supposed to get up to 16 inches of s**w beginning around midnight tonight.  It looks like a good time to stay in and get some rest and other stuff done.  I've avoided wrapping the candy and fruit cake because I don't want to infect anyone else.  And I'm going to continue to avoid those chores for the same reason.

I hope everyone is staying warm and feeling better.

Thanks to my dr's office, I called at 9 a.m. and they saw me at 3 p.m.

Good Freezing Morning Everyone!  I woke up this AM and the temperature inside my apartment was 52.

But I expected it,  so I have dressed accordingly,  and have my own little heater underneath my work area...
Kelly has been in touch with me
and offered to bring me over to her
house this afternoon,   but I am
very comfortable now  and few more hours of this intense cold,  won't hurt me.

I am well prepared for a couple of icy cold days and they are predicting a warmer Winter here on the rocky coast of Maine.   So we shall see.

What kind of an egg cooker are you all talking about?   Somehow I missed the link to it.

Wishing everyone a warmer day..

Good morning from the Interior!

We are warming up this week, and I am busy trying to do all the little things before the house cleaner arrives on the twenty-second. I am trying to give away or throw out as much as possible, but it is hard. I have so many good office outfits, many in black, navy or gray that I haven't worn since retirement in 2014.

However, with no one locally accepting clothes donations, I cannot bring myself to throw them out. I have wool pants, nice blazers, and sweaters in excellent condition, so back in the closet they go.

I am not having such a hard time with 21 vials of hand lotion, facial moisturizers, and scented shampoos, (I'm sensing a magpie attitude here). I'm too susceptible to "on the shelf, in my basket" wants. I don't wear makeup, but I have always loved scents.  The trick is to use them sparingly, and not so it is overt.

Farrah has been amusingly cute today. She has been running, hither, and yon, growling in a brass Profundo voice and chasing ghosts and her common unseen enemies. In between, she will come up for a back scratch and then she is off again.

I am also enjoying one of the benefits of being a senior. Almost every couple of days, you find left in front of your door or attached to your knob, small sacks of chocolate, candy canes, hot chocolate packets and tea, along with Christmasy pencils, mini notebooks, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Along with more mini hand cremes and mini magnets. Never anything sharp or pointy, however, and scissors given have been in a child's style.  ::)  Most of these sacks end up redistributed before the doors of male tenants, always with the chocolate removed.

Jackie, your Buck's Fizz is called a Mimosa here.

Sandy, stay safe and warm and I was also wondering about the egg cooker.

Everyone stay safe and warm, sometimes IOUs are better than something else unwelcomed

JoanFL

Janie--I am happy you are feeling somewhat better.  Rest all you can so you won't be sick for Christmas.

Vanilla-Jackie--We call that drink a mimosa.

Sandy--Isn't your furnace working.  The egg cooker we are talking about is a Nordicware Microwave eggs and muffin pan.  I ordered mine from Amazon.

angelface--What a nice gesture to find little bags etc. from other residents.
