Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Callie, our two "eagles" did that trip in reverse.  Natalie and Clint arrived from Houston yesterday!  I just took a quick trip over there for hugs and brought a cookie half way home.  Unfortunately, it disappeared on the way home.  Gonna catch a few zzzs before supper.

Hello all, I woke at 3 a.m. with big pain, so walked and walked and then back to my bed and I slept the whole morning through. Did not accomplish much today. Had leg checked. Got medications boxed, received new bunch of meds, and now it is time to doll up and go down for our Festive Dinner. They do this each Christmas but it is a first for me. Gary and his Church Choir will be over to entertain us at 7 P.m. so I am looking forward to that.

We have had a beautiful light rain all afternoon and more is expected tonight. What a treat.

Time for me to dress...so off I go.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Janie--Glad Natalie and Clint arrived safely.  I hope you are able to get some zz's.

June--Sorry you are having so much pain.  Enjoy your Festive Dinner and Gary and his church choir.

You will recall I posted about the little girl and her mum who tracked me down in the grocery store and asked to have a picture taken with me. It didn't matter that I wasn't in my Santa costume.  The picture is posted here:  http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=11.new#new

June, wishing we could help with those leg aches.... :christmastree:

Gloria, YOU FIXED MY PSP!!!   :nanadance:   :cheer:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Prayers for all of our young (and not so young) traveling.  My youngest gr-son will be heading to New York for "overseas" right after Christmas, for some type of computer gaming contest.  Big honor for him to be chosen & I really don't understand anything about it.   :-[  But can't help be concerned with the crazy killings all over the world.

I couldn't see the penguins.   :tissue:

Tom & Tiger are out, was fairly nice today, most of the snow melted, but turning cold again.

Good sleeping and sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

HI to everyone.  The first of my clan arrived tonight.  He has already turned in and I am on the way.  My cold is still with me, but seems to be improving.

June, I do hope your leg starts to improve.  Pain is the most hideous thing, it is persistent and unrelenting without some intervention, or so it seems.  I watched a football game from San Diego tonight and it was pouring there.  Hope you continue to get your much needed rain.

Good night, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

Food For Thought

IF HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS
(By Debbie Preuss)

If home is where your heart is, then heaven is my home
For one I loved is gone, I'm left here all alone
Memories flood my mind, now Christmas time is here
I'm longing for my loved one, I want to hold them near
How can life go on, when there's a void within my soul
An emptiness that feels, like I'll never be made whole
I know they're up in heaven, we'll meet again one day
But I am so lonely, ever since they went away
There will be no tears in heaven, but my heart weeps here
How I miss my precious one, to me you were so dear
God reached down and called you home, now you're gone from me
I look forward to the day, when we're together for eternity
Enjoy your first Christmas in heaven, sing God's praises strong
For it won't be too long now, until I come along
But I have work here to do, as I sing God's praise
You are in my heart, all throughout my days
My time is not yet finished here, so I carry on
Memories flood my mind and heart, as for you I long
Dear Lord this request I make, as to You I pray
Be my source of hope and strength, each and every day
For one I loved has gone, I'm left here all alone
If home is where your heart is, then heaven is my home

Thought of the Day

Trade God your pieces for His peace.

Hi everyone.  It looks like it will be a nice day starting out about 42 but suppose to go up to around 66 degrees this afternoon with no chance of rain.  I only got about 3 hours of sleep last night as could never go back to sleep after Pat came to bed.  This is going to be a busy morning as will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I will take him back home and then go back downtown for our Wisdom Group.  When that is over I will go to Aldi's for a few items and then go to Walmart to pick up another small online order.  Finally I have one other stop planned before coming home to get the air checked in my tires as the gauge shows a low tire.  Scott really enjoyed his meal with us at Tin Lizzy's late yesterday afternoon.  He had been called into work for a short time at the lunch period and then went home and fell asleep.  When we got home we visited for a couple of hours and then he headed back home as was tired.

Gloria, I also don't enjoy getting drops put in my eyes but it is usually just to dilate them.  Since my Dad had glaucoma I get my eyes checked every year and that involves dilating them and that is usually the only time I have to have drops put in my eyes. Glad to read the new medicine didn't cause a sting in your eyes.

This is a nice time of the year when family members from far away can return home for a few days to celebrate the holidays.

June, I hope you enjoyed your Festive Dinner and that the leg pain wasn't as bad last night as the last few nights.  Nice of Gary's church Choir to come and entertain you all.

Shirley, your grandson must be quite a gamer to go overseas for a computer gaming contest.  I have never gotten into the action games as don't want to be pushed when I play a game so limit them to puzzles and card games.

Joan, I liked the humor you have for us today.

Amy, hope your roads are OK for your trip to the city today and that you didn't have to do too much shoveling.

June Drabek

Don, what an adorable little girl, and what a nice note she wrote to you.  It is so heartwarming to know there are still little ones out there that believe and love Santa Claus. You are to be congratulated for sure !

Tisie and Hal, I am going to quit complaining about my ills. They cannot be changed, so why do I dwell on them. However your caring concerns are greatly appreciated. Hugs.

We had a truly festive dinner last evening. The staff really out-did themselves in pleasing us. And they had four carolers walling around singing to us A cappella, and they were perfect. They wore costumes from the 18 hundreds..very enjoyable.then later Gary and Dori brought their Church Choir through to do more songs...a wonderful evening all total.

Janie, I'm so glad you are still able to run in place and be so active and so happy. You are inspiring girl. Keep it up.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Boy am I having a problem getting those drops in my eyes. Get them every place but my eyes. I bet my eye doctor knew that would be a problem for me.
My older son was here yesterday afternoon. My DIL had a week vacation last week and they took a trip to Maine. Gor to LLBean and bought some Christmas presents there. They stopped in Kittery Maine on the way back and yesterday he brought me some candy from there. Block of soft centers covered in chocolate. I had a small slice of one with a green center-mint flavor, yummy. Now I am anxious to try the other ones.

JOAN  sorry about you problem with the pharmacy yesterday. That is the main reason I did not want to change. CVS messed me up before but that was not the one here, the delivery here is what made me change. One thing less my younger son has to do for me.

AMY  beautiful. Thanks for the link.

JOAN  nah, you did not enjoy seeing all those penguins.  I thought of you as soon as I saw them.  :smitten:

CALLIE  glad Ellen landed safe and on time. I know you are in a hurry to see her. Have some cookies ready for her?

JANE  always wonderful to see family members you do not get to see often.

JUNE  sorry you woke in pain, not nice at all. My daughter and SIL are in Can Diego for Christmas at their older son's home. They also had some business to wind up. They went by their old home and the man who bought it was there and showed them around to see what they had done. They had stucco put on the outside and tore apart the inside. Does not look like the same house at all. They have been having rain, there, too. I know you enjoyed Gary and the church choir last evening.

DON  that is so heartwarming and I know it made you feel wonderful.

LLOYD  I can see where a commercial heater would cost a lot more.

SHIRLEY  How could I fix you PSP from so far away? I do know I set my tool bar with what I use by going to view and clicking o customize and saving those settings in my preferences. Once in awhile it messes up and I have to reset it. Looks like Amy's link did not work for you.  More penguins than we could count.

JOAN  never had Eggs Florentine, something new to try. Food for Thought is how many feel on Christmas, sad but true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  safe travels to the city and home. No snow here but is supposed to rain today.

LARRY  this time the eye doctor wanted to look at the cataract things from that surgery to see if there was something there. As bad as I am with getting drops in my eyes, these little vials are hard to squeeze. I do not have much strength in my hands, never did. Then my aim is way off. He always dilates my eyes and checks then more drops to dilate further.  Must have got some in yesterday because when I woke this morning my eyes were not a gritty as they have been. No sting from the drops. Like you I like making puzzles  and thanks to you mentioning it I have BrainsBreaker and a few different MahJong games. I do not want any timing on what I do for entertainment.

JUNE  the festivities last night sound wonderful.

Good morning, Janie.  I hope one of these days you can slow down.

Larry--Good morning.  You sure have been busy.  Glad you liked the humor.

Good morning June.  GREAT that you had such a nice evening yesterday.

Gloria--Good morning.  I have trouble with the eye drops, too.  How nice that your son and DIL brought you some yummy candy.  I used CVS when I first moved here for prescriptions and switched to Walgreens after CVS messed up several times.   It seems now Walgreens is going to do the same.  Of course I loved seeing all those penguins.:)

Good morning from the Interior. Yesterday was the Solstice, our shortest day and nothing happened other than private parties as "Those" looking to commercialize a simple moment to see daylight return, arranged everything on the 17th. When you live in the arctic and when your winter daylight is from 10 am to 3 pm and an hour and half of that is twilight, you grow to appreciate daylight. The winter Solstice celebrates the return of daylight, and the summer Solstice celebrates twenty-four hours of summer daylight before we begin to lose minutes again. I am not a fan of commercializing everything for profit or to advertise a company.

For those of you having problems with eyedrops, I had that issue until I was shown how to make a small "cup" from your lower eyelid and place the drop there. It is simple, easy, and you don't lose the drops. I have recently had the issue of not being able to squeeze the bottle and think they should make bottles for those of us who have problems.

It is now 6:47 and I have the cleaner showing up at nine to do a deep clean so I will be busy again today.

JoanFL

Angelface--Thanks for the tip on how to put eye drops in.  I'll try it.

Shirley

My eyes are closing, nap time!  But I have to stop & talk or will forget when I come back.

Patricia, that is the best tip I've ever read/heard to get drops in the eyes!  I don't use but did help put drops in for Cas over the years.  Really a super idea, thanks!  Hope I can remember if ever I need, but will certainly pass the advice on.

Larry, I've always been against all the gaming my grands did but this kid has been a whiz all his life, even was put on time limits when it came to getting homework done.  He has a good job dealing with tech stuff (one of his degrees) & his company gave him time off to travel (all expenses paid), so one of those times when it rings true, "you never have to work a day in your life if you love your job".

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Permanent crown firmly attached to tooth - quick stop at the dairy store on the way home - finally In For The Duration....I hope!

Yesterday afternoon, I moved the lightweight worktable from my office to my bedroom so I could wrap packages.
Just as I was getting organized, the doorbell rang.  It was my next-door-neighbor bringing me a small loaf of holiday bread.  "Yes, she would come in and visit" - and did so for about 45 minutes.

A few minutes after she left, the phone rang.  It was the "other side" next door neighbor.  She brought me a small tin of home made candy and,  "Yes, she could come in and visit".

I never got back to the package wrapping!!

Should get that done this afternoon because son wants to take them all home after the party here tomorrow night instead of on the "midnight ride" of Christmas Eve.

Of course, the way this month has gone,  I expect "the best laid plans of mice, men and Callie to go astray".....again!

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

JoanFL

Shirley--Your mention of gaming brought to mind most recent activity.  Last weekend he went to Nashville, TN to compete in a chess tournament. It was expensive to enter, and his parents told him of he wanted to go he had to pay the entry fee with his own money and they would take him.  He was the youngest competing and only won two games, but had a good attitude.  He told his Dad he'd practice more and next year go back and wow them.:)

Callie--I'd say you had your gift wrapping interrupted yesterday.  However, how nice that your neighbors bring you goodies at Christmas time.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

Mary Ann

Gloria, the puzzles that show timing do not have it to time you â€" one just gives an average, then my time and one other does give my time, but I am not in contest with anyone, or the computer.  I do kind of like to know how long the puzzles took me.

Patricia, I try to use the “cup” of the lower eyelid and most times it works, but there are many times the drops go down my cheek, even my finger.  I do have an eye cup but I have a hard time with that.  When I have used it, it works fine.  It’s just too much work to get it in place and to work.

Mary Ann

Shirley

Joan, how nice that F likes to play chess.... my oldest son did as well.... but he had trouble finding anyone to play with.  I did call a retirement village near the school, to see if any of the "retired professional people" there knew of any members that played chess... nary a one.  He finally quit looking for a partner.  Hope F doesn't give it up, winning 2 games is very good, especially being the youngest!  Congratulations for his trying and attitude.

Callie, everything I start this week ends up like your day.  I feel like those little vehicles that the kids had that would bump against something, turn & keep on going.  Trouble is I'm not getting anything to a complete stage, I came to nap an hour ago.

JoanFL

Mary Ann--It seems they could develop an easier way to get eye drops in properly.

Shirley--They have a chess club at school, so Finlay gets to play with school mates, plus his mom and dad are good chess players.

For crossword lovers or cruciverbalists, a cruciverbalists is someone that constructs or enjoys solving crosswords puzzles. Arthur Wynne was a Liverpool journalist that invented the first crossword puzzle. It was published in The New York World on December 21, 1913. His puzzle was first called a “Word-Cross Puzzle” and was designed as a diamond shape. Although Wynne’s invention was initially greeted with skepticism, by the 1920s it had established itself as a popular pastime, entertaining and frustrating generations of cruciverbalists.
