CallieOK

Good Morning from a cold crisp sunny central Oklahoma,

Hal,  sorry about that Blue Norther.   You may know the old saying from the plains/prairies:  "There's nothing between here and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence - and it runs north and south."

Gloria,  There are several recipes for Martha Washington candy - usually chopped pecans, maraschino cherries and coconut mixed with Eagle Brand milk and powdered sugar - rolled into small balls and then dipped in chocolate.
Mine from my mother-in-law is different in that it calls for chopped dates and candied cherries with the pecans - no coconut.  My family likes it best.
(BTW,  In this area, it's "pe-KAHN"  not "pea-can".   ;D )

June,  I surely do hope that the antibiotic helps your leg situation.  That's worrisome.

Joy, how nice to have a really helpful tech with your computer issue.  We once had a Filipino exchange student for a year.  He spoke fluent English but didn't understand some of the colloquisms - particularly our southern ones.

Off to make and dip some more MW candy.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Sandy

Good Afternoon Everyone..

It is cold here and sunny,  but
gonna get colder and darker in the
next few day ..        :'(

Oh well...

Lloyd--Sorry you were having trouble getting online.  Dress warm to go outside and work.

Callie--Candy in the "hidey hole"?  I say "pee-can".

Sandy--You've got quite a long wait for Spring.:)

I say pe-kahn' kind of like Callie I guess but I've heard pee-can and pekun both around here so I can't say what "they" say around here.  I only know what I say!

I've got the box ready to go to my sister's family with the exception of something for my BIL.  He's on a very restricted diet so I can't give him candy and I don't have a clue what to get him.

I'm in the middle of packing the box for Texas and when that's on the way, I'll breathe a sigh of relief.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, cool, windy, cloudy day.

I had almost 5 days of reading, been so busy with 3 days of PT, I even forgot to go to the hemotolagist Monday. Wed. had PT, then went to Christmas luncheon at club house. To day I just plain tired. He told me yesterday, he thought I needed a hip replacement to help the pain in my leg. Forget that. I will live with the pain. To morrow he will tell me if I should keep up with the PT. I think I have had enough, see not much difference.

Joy I still have my old Kindle, thought about getting a new one. but I generally only use it when I am on the sunporch and watch TV on it. I tried reading books on it, but I like to hold a real book in my hands.

Hal, sorry you are getting a cold.

Joan, thanks for good breakfast, and readings.

To morrow, I have Pt, and Homemakers.  We are going to have a class in making potatoes pancakes.  Should be fun.

June, do not give up, it took almost all summer for the wound on my leg to get better. Seeing the doctor and antibiotics by month and on the sore. Finally boiled it out with proxide. (my mothers saying) Now adays they do not believe it useing it. I am told.

Gloria hope you find out whats going on, after all your appointments.

48 pieces of candy dipped. Look for some in the hidey-hole fridge. I could do more but am out of space in my FrIdge until they're hard enough to Stack in a container. When we lived in Leadville I could put them in the garage.  Might work here today-but not tomorrow.

Sandy, I'm ready for Spring at 12:01am. On December 26th! :)  Hope the pansies in my backyard pots make it through to brighten the winter days.

June Drabek

I am home, I am tired, and at home I will stay. Two and a half hours of being "out" has done me in. My beloved son Gary took care of all the paper work for a new patient, he just had me sign my name. What a blessing he is !!!!!! I can not be more thankful for what God has given me in my children.

Callie dear, I have ceased worrying about any of my medical problems. They are there, I do what I can to help them, by following the advice of those in charge.  Prayer helps ease the pains, thanks be to God.

Sandy, is that the latest picture of your new Grandaughter ??? She is changing so quickly now. I am so happy you keep us posted wtth here pictures, so we can enjoy, with you, the miracle of childhood.

Jane and Callie, I used to say Pe'-kahn, as years passed it switched to Pe-'Kahn, and I love those nuts !! but they are forbidden now…all nuts, seeds, heavy grains and used to be raisins were a NO NO, along with other dried fruits, but Hall told me raisins lost their seeds in drying, so I now do partake of those in baked goods.

Gloria De, I am a peroxide user for sure. I keep a bottle in my medicine cabinet. I use it on cuts, and as a mouthwash occasionally. I'm not giving up Gloria dear..never, never. never. Each day, to me, is a gift that I will treasure, and thank God for. We here are ALL so fortunate.

Time to scrounge up some lunch and then off for a book and nap.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Callie--I'll check the "hidey hole".  Thanks.

June--I am sure you are tired after being out for that time.

Joy, the Stouffer French Bread pizzas come in two pieces and they're about 8-10 inches long.  I usually get the Supreme because I don't care for pepperoni that most store-bought pizzas have.

There was a bad accident on I-96 near Fowlerville MI because of snow.  I saw pictures of the accident on the Weather Channel so it made national news.  When Terry and Jan lived near Detroit, I used to drive that way.

Joan, I think Papa Murphy is more than a local brand, but I don't know because I've never had to buy a pizza away from home.  If I were in Indiana, someone else would buy one.

We may get up to three inches of the white stuff - lake effect snow, caused by Lake Michigan water being warmer than the air.  The lake effect snow may go as far east as Lansing.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Mary Ann--I "googled" and there is a place to get Papa Murphy's Piazza about 10 miles from me.  Thanks for mentioning it.  I hope you don't have to go out in that snow.

I'm doing a bit of on line Christmas shopping today.  And trying to decide what they will like best.  I think I'm going to finish up this weekend and then I'll take all the packages to UPS on Monday.  After that's done, I'll drag out some of the decorations and hopefully, Kiran will help me when she's here after school on Monday.

Now I'm going to go watch a Christmas movie through my eyelids.  I didn't get a nap today and I'm draggin'.

I hope everyone who is well stays that way and everyone who is ailing stops.

Maybe I'll roast the peanuts tonight and tomorrow.  I'd sure liek to taste those Martha Washingtons that Callies doing.  They sound delicious.

A trick for getting done fast....I put my dipped chocolates on small cookie sheets and pop them in the freezer for about 5 minutes.  It sets the chocolate faster and I get more done in a shorter time.  Might work for Marthas.

So cold here today. I wanted to just stay in my PJs again. But as usual. Out of Milk. Going to stock up on canned milk again as I can get bye with it for a day. So got all dressed. Decided to just go to Aldi. Across the Highway. As usual got a lot more than just milk. Saw snow flurries coming down. Good time to prepare to stay indoors for days.
Have lots of letters to write and put into the few cards I send out. Mostly New Year Cards.
Got lots of movies and books from the library. Started on one with 5 discs covering the whole Series. So good. I had never heard of it. Its Australian. (A place to call Home). the name of it. One disc last for 4 hours.

CallieOK

JaneS, not sure how well the MW candy would mail but I'd surely share if I could.
I mix the filling and keep it in a big Tupperware salad bowl in the fridge.  When that Round Tuit shows up  :),  I fill a cookie sheet with balls.  .
My freezer is too small for even a small cookie sheet - but I can get one large enough to hold 48 candy balls in the fridge. They're firm enough to dip by the time the chocolate is melted in a double boiler
I turn either the Tupperware Cake--tainer or the Pie-tainer upside down and stack them in the lid with wax paper in between the layers.  The bottom of the "....tainer" then becomes the lid.

One time, I took a lot of cookies to some event that were packed that way.  A day or so later, one of my friends called and asked what Tupperware piece I'd used.  She had looked all through the catalog and couldn't find it.  Before I told her what I'd done, I suggested she turn the catalog upside down and look again.  ;D

JaneS

I don't have a crock like my mother did so my fruit cake is "aging" in my tupperware cake taker (or whatever they called it way back when).  And right now my pie taker is upside down and full of peanut butter cups.  (My catalog must have been upside down, too.

I have all the peanuts roasted and ready to pack in bags.  One more chore out of the way.

Maybe I'll just stop by for a visit and you'll serve me a Martha Washington candy.  I did look up the recipe on the internet but I think I'd rather you made them than I.  I'm all candied out right now.

Never did get my nap today so I think I'll go pack the peanuts and hit the hay!  I finally have an idea for Kiran and I want to explore that tomorrow.  She has a birthday on the 18th and then Christmas right after that.

I will bid you all Good Night and may God bless us, every one!

June, looks like this cold has found a home in my head and with a cough to boot.  I am fixing to go to bed and see if I can sleep some of the thing away.

Sadly, the young man. that got hit by the train, they are now saying may have committed suicide.  Evidently they now have TV cameras on trains and it showed him jumping in front of the train as it approached.
His mother was on the five oclock news and says he did.

Off to bed.  Cold, cold and I am getting chills.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams

Stopping in to say GOOD NIGHT to EVERYFRIEND!

Nothing new to talk about here....have been in the house for two days now.....way too cold to get out.  We officially hit -10 last night.  Have some snow on the ground none of which melted as it was too cold.

Sorry to read about your coming down with a cold and cough, HAL.  I hope it does not get you too down...take care.

Pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

Hunting Doctors

Five doctors went duck hunting one day. Included in the group were a GP, a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, a surgeon and a pathologist. After a time, a bird came winging overhead. The first to react was the GP who raised his shotgun, but then hesitated.

"I'm not quite sure it's a duck," he said, "I think that I will have to get a second opinion." And of course by that time, the bird was long gone.

Another bird appeared in the sky thereafter. This time, the pediatrician drew a bead on it. He too, however, was unsure if it was really a duck in his sights and besides, it might have babies. "I'll have to do some more investigations," he muttered, as the creature made good its escape.

Next to spy a bird flying was the sharp-eyed psychiatrist. Shotgun shouldered, he was more certain of his intended prey's identity.

"Now, I know it's a duck, but does it know it's a duck?" The fortunate bird disappeared while the fellow wrestled with this dilemma.

Finally, a fourth fowl sped past and this time the surgeon's weapon pointed skywards. BOOM!! The surgeon lowered his smoking gun and turned nonchalantly to the pathologist beside him.

Food For Thought

Let It Die
(By Steve Troxel)

During the three short years of Jesus' earthly ministry, He performed many miracles and preached to crowds large and small. But the moment of greatest acceptance came the week before Jesus was crucified as He entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. A large number had gathered from all over Israel in preparation of the Passover: "They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!'" (John 12:13).

Many would view this as the high point of Jesus' ministry. He had gained a great following and the people even hailed Him as the new King of Israel. But Jesus knew this was not His Father's will. Jesus came for a much greater purpose than to be a temporary king; He came for an eternal glory which required His death.

John 12:24 "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds."

Jesus spoke these words in reference to His sacrifice on the cross which would occur in a few short days, but His message of death was also intended for us today. Obviously He's not saying we should all be physically crucified, but Jesus IS saying we must experience a death; "whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it" (Matthew 16:25). Paul explains this even more directly; "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature" (Colossians 3:5).

Our earthly nature is home to all our sinful desires, but it is also the source of all the ambitions and dreams not formed by God. When we tightly hold to our dreams and are driven (or drive others) by our own ambitions, we choke what God desires to accomplish and never see the full potential of Christ - never see the abundant life God desires us to live.

We have a tendency to dream and make plans, and then spend our time and energy pursuing the dream rather than truly pursuing Christ. Our dream may even appear very Godly - we may strive for a dynamic ministry or children who love and follow God - but until we allow EVERYTHING within us to die and be replaced by the love of God, we will never experience His very best or witness His most beautiful fruit; "and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20).

Let's allow the plans of Christ to reign absolutely supreme. We were created for so much more than we can imagine! Let's cast off all sin and leave ALL we hold dear at His feet. He will raise up what He desires to use for the glory of His name, but first we must resolve to let it die.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's now 28º in Central PA.  I fear that winter is upon us!  Geemogotchies are the uniform of the day and we all walk around smoking like chimneys able to see our breath with every one we take.  I know, other areas have colder temps and so will we in Jan and Feb. but the first full week of it is always a shock!

Today I'll be greeting my public from behind the counter at Wally World.  It becomes more difficult to make myself get ready for that activity each day.  Once I'm there, I'm fine and I truly like the people .... those I work with and those in my line.  The people are what make the job good!

I might stick around and get my ears lowered today if my favorite girl is there.  She brings such joy to her job that it's contagious.  And I love the way she cuts my hair.

My good neighbor across the street is having computer problems and he asked if he could have a few minutes with mine this morning to do a couple of financial things so I'm going to get ready for work early so he can have whatever he needs on the computer.  I'm off to feed the doggies and then to the shower.  Make it a good day filled with whatever strikes your fancy.

Joanie, I'm sitting here with baited breath waiting for you to notice that the punch line is missing from your joke.  I'll check later to see if you've added it!

Five
Doctors
Go
Hunting

Five doctors - a general practitioner, a paediatrician, an internist, a surgeon, and a pathologist - decided to take a weekend trip and go duck hunting.

Soon after they were in their duck blind, a bird flew over and the general practitioner said, “I think that is a duck,” and so he took aim and slowly squeezed the trigger…but then he lowered his rifle and said, “I better get a second opinion.” “Back of the line,” said the group.

Another bird flew overhead and the paediatrician said, “I think this one is a duck too,” and he took aim…only to lower his rifle and say “but that duck might be a mother have baby ducks somewhere.” “Back of the line,” said the group.

A third bird flew overhead and the internist shouted, “That looked like a duck, etiologically classified as Animalia, Chordata, Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, based on the size, I am judging it to be a male, with an estimated weight of…” Before he could finish his thorough assessment or raise his rifle, the bird was gone. “We do not need to hear all that gibberish. Leave it to me,” said the surgeon.

Then a fourth bird flew overhead and the surgeon immediately raised his rifle and with no hesitation shot the bird out of the sky. He then turned to the pathologist standing next to him and said, “now go find out if that was a duck.”

Gloria

Good morning everyone, just heard on local weather that we might have snow later today. Glad I do not have anywhere to go today.  How I have changed. Snow never kept me home and I enjoyed going out in it. I always said when I started not being our in the snow I would know I was old. Guess I am OLD now. Saw a huge pile up of cars and trucks in a snow accident, did not catch where it happened.

HAL  smart man staying home when you feel that cold coming on. I worked once with a woman who would come to work with a cold and cough and sneeze without ever covering mouth or nose.  I tried staying far away from her. I hope yours leaves you fast. No fun at any time. I did sleep good last night and I was in bed a little after 8.

MARY ANN  I used to get the pepperoni Stouffer's French bread pizza, love it and I have not bought it in a year or more now. Think I had enough of it for awhile because I used to buy it almost every week. I have an eye doctor appointment in a couple of weeks. My eyes feel dry lately, maybe I need some eye drops.

JOAN  that GERC is no fun. I remember before I was prescribed the med for it how I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I could spit fire. That was the one thing the doctor I had for 10 years or more did for me, sent me for that scope down my throat and that doctor prescribed it for me. That dr. bedside manner couldn't even say it right.

JOY  I remember the first time the tech I used to have got into my computer from his home and every thing started moving around with me just sitting and watching. I was surprised to say the least and is still fascinates me when I see that. I tried those no cook noodles for lasagna but like the ones you boil first much better.

JUNE  I often think now about how little we appreciated our good health when we were young. We just lived out lives in the present never thinking about the future.

LLOYD  now we know those cantankerous computers are MALE.  If they were female they would cause no problems and would work right all the time.

CALLIE  when my sister lived in Oklahoma she gave me lessons on how to say pecan. Wish I had heard of the Martha Washington candy when I was making candy. I would love the filling and the way you make it, too. I love dates. My family would have loved them, too.

GLORIA de  I was first told about 6 years ago by an orthopedic doctor that I was too old for surgery and that hip is where most of my pain is.

MARY ANN  I saw that accident on TV but did not catch the name of where it happened.  Never saw so many vehicles in a pile up before.

CALLIE  glad I am not the only one who has used the pie/cake Tupperware containers upside down.  When I packed the chocolate dipped balls to Ca. I would put wax paper between the layers. What I worked at Tupperware the pie keeper was one of the gifts they gave us. Most of the Tupperware I have was a gift from them. Once a month they would give us something and at Thanksgiving they gave us a turkey and Christmas they gave us many things and for Easter we got an 8 pound canned ham.

JOAN  a sticky bun will be finger licking good this morning. Hunting Doctors, hmm wonder if we should trust surgeons after that one. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  I'll be there for those coconut macaroons. I never get enough of those.

JANE  from what I see on the TV now it is 30° here.
