Food For Thought

The 7-Ups of Life
(Author Unknown)

1. Wake Up - Decide to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice & be glad in it." Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up - The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart." I Sam 16:7

3. Shut Up - Say loving things & learn to listen. God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. "He who guards his lips guards his soul." Proverbs 13:3 "Gossip betrays confidence, avoid men who talk too much." Proverbs 20:19 "Listen to advice, accept instruction and in the end, you will be wise." Proverbs 19:20

4. Stand Up - For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good..." Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up - To the Lord. "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up - For something higher. "...press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

7. Lift Up - Your Prayers. "Do not worry about anything; instead pray about everything." Philippians 4:6

Amy

Good morning everyone.

Well the cold weather has returned and we did have a light dusting of snow overnight.

A day of rest here...might bake some cookies for hubby but that is the extent of it lol.

Hard to believe that we only have two more days left in Feb after today. I hope March is an easy month for snow but we shall see.

Hope  everyone is feeling great today.

Hal, are you ok???

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi everyone on a rather cool morning for us as it is only 45 degrees.  However, we will get to the low 60's today with zero chance of rain.  Today will be our usual Sunday with Sunday School and Church and then getting something to eat.  I am not sure that Pat will attend today as she had a rather rough day yesterday.  We stayed home all day yesterday.  The man didn't make it to do the pressure washing but did call, which I much appreciated, to explain what had happened and he said he will be here tomorrow.

Joy, too bad your missed being able to have breakfast at Bob Evans.  We always enjoyed eating at one of their restaurants when we would go to Florida or find one somewhere else.  There is only one of their restaurants here in South Carolina and it is over on the coast and a long way from us.

Sandy, I think you have to be the most organizing person I know.  Good luck with the current efforts.

June, I have always left my laptop plugged in unless traveling or needing to bring it into my office.  The electronics in them will not let them overcharge so it should be safe.  If you wanted to just use it for a couple of hours (or up to how many hours it will work on battery) then you don't need to keep it plugged in.  Computers have a much longer battery life than they used to have.  I don't think I would last five minutes trying to pressure wash my house as it takes very little to exhaust me.  I suggested a glider to Pat but she wants an old-fashioned swing with the chains attached above.

Jenny, it is always a relief to know that long trips by our relatives have been completed without incident.

JaneS, glad you found some ZZZ's as you work too hard and I am sure can use the rest.  I also often ask myself "where have the years gone" as well.

Joan, I like "The 7-Ups of Life" and copied it out to use as devotional material sometime.  Thanks.  I also liked the graphic Phyllis prepared and you shared with us.

Amy, nice of you to bake some cookies for your husband.  We men do like home baked cookies.

Good morning, Larry.  I am sorry Pat had a rough day yesterday.  Here they say by mid-week we will be in the 90s--too hot too early IMHO.  I am glad you are able to use some of the things I post.

Good morning, Callie.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy I am fine, but like you our cold weather is back, for a few days anyhow.  Cold wind, cloudy and looks like it wants to rain.

I am up and ready to go to church, waiting on the better half to finish up her dressing.

Everyone have a great day.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone from the warmer but windier rocky coast of Maine.
Wind makes everything feel cooler,  so the increase in temps really doesn't help much.    But it still feels like Spring is just around the corner.     (Not necessarily true here in the North East!

Sandy, I think you have to be the most organizing person I know.  Good luck with the current efforts.

I talk a good game,  but unfortunately,  I am still overwhelmed with "stuff" that easily gets "our of order",  (my fault)  and requires my intervening every few weeks to get things straightened out again.

If I were seriously organized, (and kept things up daily),  I would be the most "organized person"  around.    :2funny:

In order not to become a hoarder (which I really fear),  requires my attention to details,  every couple of months.
The good news is I do try to thin out each time I tackle
"organizing"  so that one of these days,  this chore will kind of take care of itself.

I hope that everyone has a good day!

Good morning, halkel.  We're getting warm weather and had that one day of rain last week.

Sandy--Good morning.  At least you do intervene and straighten things out.:)

Good morning everyone, we had rain last night and it poured. Brought in a cold front. On TV it shows 37 but with the wind feels like the 20's. At least that is more normal now. Slept better last night and I feel awake now.

JOAN  my son said there will be no crop this year because the darn caterpillars ate all the forming buds and leaves off the trees last year. We were all infested with them, even here most of the trees were bare from them. There was no spraying to kill them because those in charge of the state said there weren't enough for the cost of spraying.

AMY  my son is hoping for a miracle for a crop but does not think it will happen.

LARRY  it surprised me how wool does not feel hot in the summer.

JOY  only time I really dislike waiting is when I go for bloodwork. All I can think of is how hungry I am and want them to hurry.

JUNE  you are right, my son has threatened to cut his apple trees down with another year of no crop. He enjoys working out there and I know he would miss it. Now that he is retired he will have more time to spend in it. His customers miss him the years he had no crop. Yes I did enjoy helping him but doubt I would be able to do it again. The last time I did I was worn out. You are so right, we never think of what we do with our bodies when we were younger. Now with all that can go wrong we appreciate those younger years.  I keep scolding my daughter about all the heavy lifting she does.

JENNY  on son has a dog who is scared in a car. He shakes and cries like a baby the whole time. So sad to see.

PHYLLIS  like your graphic. Tells me we should all read more. Thanks.

JOAN  will enjoy breakfast this morning. Oh boy the sun just appeared. Love the Bumper Stickers. I like the Hang up and Drive, too many of those dumb people on the roads these days. The 7-Ups of Life is a keeper and I have copied it to share. Good quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  like you the cold has returned here along with wind. More normal but after the very warm days last week we will feel the cold when we go outside. Back to winter jacket.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a gorgeous, cold, sunshiny day and when I was coming home from Church and breakfast with friends, there were some of those teeny little white things flying around.  I understand from certain reports that there will be more of them but not a large accumulation.  I can take that but it was enough that I had to take my winter coat out of the closet and wear it to church.  I don't need any "white stuff".

I keep telling myself that "Spring is just around the corner".  The question is "which corner?"

I'm ready for my call from Texas to ask question about Seniors and senior living.  I don't think it will be until around 2 my time...1 her time.  I forgot to ask her the subject this time.  I guess I'll be surprised.

I think I'll just loaf until she calls.  I'm getting very good at loafing.  Of course, I don't want to get too good at it or I'll never do anything.

Make today a good one!

Good morning, Gloria.  That's too bad that your son will have no crop this year.  I'm sure he must get discouraged.  I'm happy that you share some of the things I post.

Amy--I love oatmeal cookies.  Thanks for putting some in the hidey hole.

Good morning, Janie.  I think it will be a few weeks until Spring arrives up there.  Nice that you are participating in your granddaughter's project.

Good Morning all, I am fed, cleaned up, but need to put on "walking clothes" then I will be off to Church. We are having a variety of weather, woke to light rain, then sun, then clouds, then sun, then clouds…ad infinitum. No plans for this day other than Church and dinner at noon and of course, the computer. Plus reading and more naps. Life is Good.

Phyllis, todays graphic is similar to my bedside table. A stack of at least four books to read, none of which are as educational as yours I fear. I use my reading as recreation more than education. I do have 3 devotional books and hymnal by my recliner which I use early in the morning, just to get the day started properly. My two favorites are Jesus Calling and Grace, by Max Lucado…I read them from beginning to end, then start over to page one again.

Larry, thank you for the info on the computer. My main concern is that if I were shuffled off to the hospital or care facility my lap top will be prepared to travel with me. My son said I am the only person he knows of who goes to the hospital with a cell phone adapter in her purse…now he can add the laptop computer to that.

Janie, enjoy your day of loafing. We go to visit God on Sunday morning in His house, then we come home and enjoy the day of "rest" that He gives us. I love it.

Must "git along" or be late…..
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

June--Your weather sounds fickle.:)   The times I've gone to the hospital I have taken both my cell phone and iPad and a charger for each.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

Joanie and June, nothing wrong with being prepared if you have to go to the hospital.  Cell phone and puter are really necessities now days if you want to stay in touch and not feel like you have dropped off the face of the earth.

June I liked your description
QuoteWe go to visit God on Sunday morning in His house, then we come home and enjoy the day of "rest" that He gives us. I love it.
Except, I have to go back to his house to help count his treasure that folks give for his use.  But I am normally home by 2PM and then I can loaf with you.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday afternoon.

JoanFL

halkel--You are very generous with your time and treasures to go back to count the offering.

June and Larry, I also keep my laptop plugged in all of the time.  I have read suggestions as to both ways, but there have been more to keep it plugged in than there were to not have it plugged in.  I do turn it off at night and there are pros and cons about that.  My cell phone is a TracFone and I try to keep it charged for the few times I use it.  When I was in the hospital many years ago, my nephews brought my laptop for me to use and I was ever so thankful.  Otherwise it would have been very boring as I was not much of a TV watcher.

I also copied The 7-Ups of Life and put it in my Potpourri.

This morning at 6:45 our temperature was 19 degrees and it isn’t too much warmer than that now â€" maybe a degree or two.  Last Sunday it was not necessary to wear a coat to church, today I wore my winter down jacket again.  I do wish the weather would make up its mind.  The sun is shining, but it still is not warm.  I understand by the end of the week, things will be warmer.

Dot and I went to church this morning, then to Mr Burger (The Cholesterol Pit) for breakfast/brunch/lunch and as usual solved the world’s problems.

Lots of whitecaps on Lake Michigan (Grand Haven).

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Mary Ann--You're having quite changeable weather, too.  It was very warm here this morning and this afternoon the temperature is gradually dropping.

Bis, I am back from Church, turned on the computer and got involved in a political message that I needed to share..Then apologized to God for letting politics take the place of a quiet, loving Sunday. Any how…that is done, and I will revert back to being the 92 year old gentle Great Grandmother that needs God in her life, that most of you seem to feel I am.

Hal, Counting God's dollars is a very important duty and I am glad you are doing that work. I did it for a few years when I went to Ascension Church in Sierra Madre, and enjoyed being with the lady that was in charge. May God Bless you greatly for doing this job.

Mary Ann, I've said it before, but it deserves repeating..it warms my heart to know that you and Dot have this warm and sharing relationship that you can share. Norm gave the two of you a gift when he was called away to a better place. The two of you know him better and can share memories that no one else can do. God Blessed you both.

Bis, our weather is still giving us little surprises…rain drops, sunshine, more clouds and rain drops, then again sunshine. Makes life very interesting.

Time for me to go down for dinner, then it will be home to relax, read and snooze. Hopefully returning later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Carol

I read all your notes.  What a great group of friends!

We have returned from a border town where we showed the ropes to oldest son and wife.  They are world travelers in their work but had never been to  Mexican town.  Now they know where to park and which vendors we know and trust.  Some very good people on the other side of the border and some not good at all.  Heavy police and national guards on their side and we can really tell the difference upon coming back into the USA with the stricter presence again.  Bought meds and I found and had fun bargaining with one vendor for a leather purse.  Two mornings of that was enough plus all the visiting with a cousin too so we were just so tired from the drive too.

Our favorite wildlife is back.  A quail family has returned.  They were late this year.  Otherwise, the ugly Javelinas are here nightly moving a block of seeds for quail or moving a couple of solar lights.  Even their babies are NOT cute.  Mean things.

Lindancer

Good Afternoon, very windy, beautiful blue sky, but back to Feb temp. Had rain last night.  Yesterday,  the second day, I was able to set on the sun porch, and read.  As soon as the sun went down I had to come in, as it cooled off so fast.

Joan, I also enjoyed those bumper stickers, so true about people driving and on phones or texting.   Phyllis Thanks also for the graphic,

Jenny, happy to see your son made it safe and sound to Boston with the doggies.  Did he hear Gloria yelling Hello, when he drove through RI :)

Larry, I have lovely memories of a porch swing. Cyriel proposed to Aug.  1945 after being in the the Pacific for 2 years. He was stationed in the Charleston Navy Yard, we were married in Oct., Went to Savannah for  our Honeymoon on a 3 day pass. aweek later he was shipped back to the Pacific, 6 months later he was discharged from the Navy. I guess I just wrote more then you wanted to know, but once I started writing it brought back more memories.

June, when I was in rehab for 3 weeks, I was glad I had my lap top.

June, thank you for the kind words about Dot's and my friendship/relationship.  We probably knew Norm better than anyone else.  Other than to say the Norm online people knew was not the Norm we knew, I won't say more.

It's been very windy in West Michigan and at times it sounded as if it was raining but the sun was shining and I could not see rain.  But you should see the waves at Grand Haven; they're not whitecaps.

Joan, it hasn't worked for me in a couple of days. I use font and font size of 14pt.

I can not find the link to leave a message for Michael?

Beverly

After not posting here for so long  I thought a new week would be a good place to start. I've been on S& F very little lately. Usually, by the time I finish reading the messages something else "calls".

I've been trying to get some projects done that I've been putting off for so long. One of them is sorting pictures. When my son was here he suggested that instead of the usual Christmas presents I should scan photos from the old albums and the many boxes I have of family pictures taken in the past 60 years and put them on CDs. With four children (and different pictures of interest to each one) this will be quite a task. Not to mention all the files I have of digital photos!   I also have many tapes taken with movie cameras and camcorders. There are places I can send these to be recorded as the tapes deteriorate with age.    I've decided this is the best gift I could give my kids.

We've had some beautiful weather lately......cool overnight and then warms up during the day.  The shrubs think it's Spring and need trimming again. I went to Lowe's today and the lines were so long I decided to wait till a better time. Beautiful flowers for planting now.

Hope everyone is staying well. So many colds, etc. around here. So far I've avoided them.

Almost time for Antiques Road Show!
