Callie--Tomorrow is supposed to be the day our temps drop 30° and that's to last through the weekend and then supposedly we'll be back in the 80s again.

JeanneP--Hope those packages are nothing that needs mailing right now.

angelface--Glad you are warm and safe.

Amy--Since your husband wanted to go out, I am glad the roads were OK.

Shirley--Probably as soon as you go for that driver's license, you will find where you put the mailed notice to renew.

June--I had a friend who had Mersa and know it's difficult to get rid of.  They tell you you're going back to your apartment, and then it's hurry up and wait.  I pray Gary and Dori have a safe and enjoyable trip to Idaho.

June, we miss ya, happy to see you posting and word of your returning home .
But I will continue praying for your good health and speedy recovery.

OK, Shirley, in your busy-ness today, please don't turn off the lights before Callie and I get out the door.  And if you must turn them off, please put your wagon away.  My knee is still sore from last night.

I'm still eating my New Year's sauerkraut and I'm thinking it will freeze well and taste just as good in February.

I hope you all had a good day, and that you, JUNE are able to get back to your apartment soon.  It's still raining in PA, thank you very much, PHYLLIS.  I thought you were blowing this rain down to JOANIE but obviously, you don't know your north from your south! :D

June - Wonderful news! I had also wondered if it was Mersa. Like Joan, I had a friend who had it, also on her leg. I know it's frustrating having to wait to get back into your apartment.  :(

This is a busy week! Last night we went to a farewell party for three of our neighbors from England, one couple and a single lady. We will miss them. They've been good friends for nearly 14 years.

Today was the first day of a new bocce season for "the girls". Most of the players are also in our golf group.  Tomorrow morning is golf and tomorrow night it's Triple Play for our card group. In between I'll squeeze in a nap.  :) Triple play lasts from 6 to 10 p.m.

Sleep well everyone!

Shirley

No lights turned out tonight, Jane & Callie..... I'm too tired to flip the switch :P

Last box "packed & stacked" in the storage part of the basement.  Don't know when I've been so tired, but am glad the job is done.  Tomorrow I plan to take a shower, wash my hair & see if I can pretty me up for those awful driver's license photos.  YUCK!  Then back to tackle the floors, I use tinsel so my floors glitter everywhere.

June, it is such a relief to know what the problem was and that they are fixing it.  You are fortunate that the doctors/nurses where you live take such good care to do something so early.  Give them my thanks and compliments for their wonderful service.

Beverly, so fun to hear about all your activities..... Where are your friends going?  If it weren't for these cats I would make a trip back to England just to see if they still sell fish & chips wrapped in newspaper.  I know the places where we lived are completely changed so maybe it would just be sad.  Can't go anyway~~

Joan, bet you are right, that darn letter will show up as soon as I don't need it.  What I need is sleep right now.

We have always kept 2 night lights on in this house because of the angles of the halls.  After 30 years I still don't go down the hall without turning on lights if a nightlight goes out.  Sweet dreams to all & to all a good night.  Shirley

halkel

June, just want to add my "thanks to God" for the recovery you are making and hopefully no recurrence.  I know you will be happy to get back into your own bed.

Amy, great minds think alike, I also got my ears lowered this morning, new barber and I wasn't really thrilled with his work nor price.

Ladies, Janie and Callie, do take care going to bed tonight.  Turn the light on beside your bed till you get in.

Nite all, God bless and sweet dreams.

JaneS

HAL, it was in the Soda Shoppe that Shirley turned the lights out before Callie and I got out.  And she left her little red wagon right in the doorway for us to trip over.

I ALWAYS turn on lights before entering a room.  When you have a little black doggie that "dogs" your footsteps, you don't take chances in the dark.  The white one I can see pretty well but Mickie is always at my feet and so black that she blends in.

And now...Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

A quick HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

JUNE, I join the others in being thankful that you got treatment right away and are getting to go back to your place.  Thank be to God that your caretakers were there to help you through this.

SHIRLEY, I am one of those that manages to forget where that safe spot is that I have put something that needs care. So glad you will be able to get the renewal done with out the actual piece of paper.  Sure happy to read that you have your trip planned for Colorado.  You know we would love to see you and that new rig of yours.

Pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

Which One?

Brenda's five-year-old grandson Logan was spending the evening at his grandparents' home. He asked if he could watch the "Brer Rabbit" video and then made a second request to watercolor.

Brenda asked him which one of the two he wanted to do.

He looked up at Brenda and replied, "Grandma, I have two eyes. I can do two things at once."

Food For Thought

Hope Fulfilled
By Rebecca Heys
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:8-20

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:11
When Jesus was born, a great company of angels announced his birth. He was the Son of God, after allâ€"he deserved a grand entrance into the world. They sang a glorious song, and they must have looked amazing as they shone in the night sky.
But the angels announced the Savior’s birth to a group of peasant shepherds. They were not a very grand audience to receive the King of all nations, “the Messiah, the Lord.” Nevertheless, the birth of Jesus was announced to lowly shepherds.
It’s fitting that the birth of Jesus was announced to a lowly group of people. The purpose of the Messiah’s coming was to bring God’s love to lowly people like us and to fulfill the hopes and dreams of lowly people like us. The purpose of Jesus’ coming was to restore lowly people like us to relationship with God. So the shepherds were just the right kind of people to hear this news.
The world desperately needs God. We desperately need God. But no matter how hard we try, we cannot get to God on our own merit. The good news of Christmas is that God has come to us. The good news of Christmas is that in Jesus the hopes of the world are fulfilled.
Let’s make this good news the focus of our Christmas celebration today!
Dear God, with the angels, we give you glory and praise. With the shepherds, we thank you that by your grace you have come to lowly people like us in the birth of Jesus. Amen.

Lloyd Hammond

good Morning everyone.
enjoy

Patton staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy, Paddy.   He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Kathleen.

He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step.   As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump.   A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful.
Managing not to yell, Patton sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt
cheeks were cut and bleeding.   He managed to quietly find a full box of Band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each place he saw blood.

He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed..

In the morning, Patton woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Kathleen staring at him from across the room.

She said, 'You were drunk again last night weren't you?'

Patton said, 'Why would you say such a mean thing?'

'Well,' Kathleen said, 'it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly ....... it's all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special GOOD MORNING to you, Joanie and to to Lloyd.

The rain has stopped after continuing all day yesterday.  I think we needed it.  Today, I'll be off to WM at 9 to continue my "smile search".

Just wondering, do most of you have one of your children on your bank accounts?  We've decided that it would be a good idea to have Cathy on my accounts so that if something happens that I'm unable to take care of business, she'll do it for me.  We've all agreed that this is a good idea.  I've discussed it with all my kids and we all agree that Cathy is the logical one for doing this.  She's here and she pretty much looks after me anyway.  Business will continue as usual but if she's needed she'll do what's necessary.

I hope you all have a lovely day full of whatever pleases you most.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning everyone. My helper never showed up yesterday. I called the office after 2PM and her boss was surprised and I could hear the disgust in her voice. That kid called in sick on Tuesday and never called in yesterday. She told me she thought she was at work yesterday. Some young single workers really do not feel the responsibility of their jobs. My regular CNA  will be here this morning.Big difference, she will call into work if she is ill ands also calls me to let me know if she will not be here.

JOAN  I remember when my daughter first moved to San Diego and it was sunshine all the time and no rain. She said she never thought she would miss rain. Now after 43 years she is living where the get rain, they have had more in Arizona in 2 months than they had in San Diego in 2 years.

JOY  at my son's one Christmas with a Yankee Swap a joke of a fancy shower bonnet was picked by a woman who didn't want that but wanted what a balding man had and he ended with that shower cap and that got a lot of laughs.

HAL  I was Scrooge this year, did not put up any decorations

JUNE  glad the infection is now gone and you can go home. Thank God they found what it was before it got worse. I know you loved having 3 dogs visit you.

PATRICIA  so far this winter you have had more snow than we had here. Been pretty warm so far, too.

AMY  glad the roads were good when you went to town.

SHIRLEY  not many use tinsel anymore, too messy for them but I still love it. I love the way the least little airflow sets it moving and shining.

JOAN  anything Panera is tasty, especially their bear claws. Which One is a good answer for a 5 year old. Hope Fulfilled  is something to think about. Thank you for al today's goodies.

LLOYD  Patton was not a very smart man thinking he could fool his wife. Good joke.

JANE  I always have had one son on my bank account. Now that it is hard to get out I am glad I di because he does my banking for me.

Good morning everyone..

I have a date with the snow blower this morning, boy is he going to get a surprise come Spring ...I am going to stand him up!!!

Joan we have a panera in the city but we have yet to try  it.

Shirley, I have put things in a safe place for later on and it is MUCH later on when I find them. We could hid our own Easter eggs and still be surprised at finding them lol.

Gloria,I don't think that girl wants to work, if she wanted to hold her job she would have reported in...to both of you..I worked for one family  for over 20 years enjoying each and every day with them.

Joan, thank you for breakfast

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  I wish you smiles at WM today.  I have Linda and Joe on my bank accounts.  That works for us.

Gloria--Good morning.  That sure is maddening when an employee isn't going to come to work and doesn't even bother to call.

Good morning, Amy.  That snow blower is going to be worn out come Spring.:)

I am going out early to do errands.  I let some things to during the holidays, because I didn't want to contend with the crowds.

Jane, I finally realized that I was facing North toward you instead of South toward Joan.  I blew as hard as I could to send the rain clouds far away.  Finally it worked!  So sorry I was "directionally challenged"......as I am most of the time.     :crazy2:   Oh, by the way.....I have my son's name, who lives here with me, on my bank accounts.  It made sense that if the time should come that I could no longer handle my finances there should be someone who could do it for me.  I think you are making a smart move.

June, I am so glad that the people who take care of you got ahead of the MRSA and that you will...or already have...gone back to your apartment.  That is great news!

The weather people here still aren't sure whether we will have snow this weekend or not.  I don't trust them so I'll be sure the pantry and freezer are fed and the fuel tank on the car is full up, even though if it DOES snow, I have absolutely, unequivocally, emphatically NO plans to go anywhere!  No, siree bob!

I've never had a Panera breakfast sandwich, Joan.  Sounds good.  And, Gloria is right that their bear claws are really good.  I like Panera and it isn't far from me but it is always so busy and not really set up to make it easy for people who use Rollators so I don't go there often.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I am directionally challenged, too.  My cars GPS helps with that.  The Panera near me is difficult to get in and out of, too.  It's in a huge mall and hard to even find a parking place.

Hi everyone.  Today won't be as warm as it was yesterday here when we got to around 70 degrees and saw the sun for the most of the day.  Our high today is predicted to be 62 but a fair day with no rain.  Yesterday evening we met our granddaughter at Pizza Hut for our dinner meal and then she came out to the house for the first time for a little while.  Today's schedule should be fairly light.  Pat left me a note on the coffee pot not to fix her breakfast as she wants to go to the hospital lab to have blood drawn for the tests ordered in preparation for her next routine appointment with the GP, which is a week from today.  Then she mentioned stopping somewhere for breakfast. This evening our Wednesday night dinners at church resume and I will be joined there by Scott and granddaughter Jennifer and then they will come back out to the house for awhile.

I thought I posted here yesterday as know I prepared the post and wrote comments to others but as I look back I find I must not have hit the post button.  I will be more careful today but no promises about tomorrow.

Hal, like you when we were raising the family and years afterwards we had to watch our pennies.  It is nice now not to have to watch every penny and to be able to do things like take Jennifer shopping (and she came in with her purchases under the budget I had given her).  I am hoping we can now establish a strong relationship with her as that is something we have never had the opportunity to do.

Shirley, I don't remember my doctor's saying much about cold weather but I found from experience that I don't do well outside when it is much below 40 degrees and certainly when it is below freezing.  Fortunately, we don't have many days when in the daytime it is below freezing so not much of a problem down here.

Jackie, I would say you need some new friends as those you mentioned yesterday don't sound like the kind to be enjoyed.

Amy, I wouldn't even consider buying fabric for my wife's quilting projects.  She has boxes and boxes of fabric on her sewing room shelves but it seems she is constantly acquiring more.  While I am happy that doing so pleases her I have told her she is going to have to live to be 150 to use it all up but of course she would be acquiring more all along so guess it would never be used up.

Joy, nice that your Christmas celebration is continuing through Saturday and you will get to see family members who you don't get to see very often.  To me it is the little ones that really make Christmas gift giving fun.

Shirley, glad you found an easy solution to your lost driver's license renewal form.

June, you are fortunate that the Mersa was identified early on and treated.  Hope you are settled back in your apartment now.

Beverly, your social schedule is certainly full.  It is fun to do things with people we enjoy being around. I hope you had good luck yesterday.

Lloyd, that was a funny one.

JaneS, we haven't reached that stage yet where we have added our son to our bank account but would I expect Pat will do it when I am no longer around.  My folks did it and it sure was handy when Dad became to ill to even sign the checks.  I am sure your family would appreciate your doing this kind thing for them.

Lloyd Hammond

glad you enjoyed it I will try to do better as time goes on H ave a great day.
the sun is shinning bright here , but it is only 12º here now. i will put on a warm coat.

Joy

Good morning, Joan and all !

Another gray, cloudy and dreary morning here.  I must have really slept good last night as I didn't wake up until almost 9 a.m.

Yes, Jane, I do have my son's name on my bank accounts.  Only one time, have I had to have him write some checks for me and that was about 10 years ago, when I was in the hospital.

I do use my ATM card when I need cash, or I  will give it to my son or DIL to get it for me.  Luckily,  my bank has a place  in Walmart, which makes it very convenient.    Otherwise, I can transfer money over the phone,  when I need to put some money into my checking account. That woks well.

Nothing special going on today.  My oldest son and DIL are on their way to Calgary for a week of skiing.  They will be in Calgary for a couple days and then go to Lake Louise for the rest of the week.  My son travels a lot with his job, so they have lots of frequent flyer miles and can get really good upgrades.  The two places they are staying look beautiful.

I do want to try to get some straightening done today and get rid of some junk mail and catalogs.  I thought the catalogs would stop after Christmas, but they still keep coming.  So many of them, I have never heard of before.  And, a lot of them will have "This is your last catalog", but they all still keep coming, also.  Most of them I don't even look at.  I have a couple favorites ones, and the rest usually go into the recycling bin.

As I slept in a little later this morning,  I have not had anything to eat yet.

Joan, I am not a big fan of Panera's, so I will skip the breakfast sandwich this morning.  Will have my usual fruit and a piece of toast.  A friend gave me some flavored teas for Christmas, so I think I will have a cup of tea this morning.  And,  I am thinking about turning the heat up a little bit, as it feels chilly.

June, I am so happy to read that you will be (or already have) moving back to your own little nest.  So glad you are feeling better.  I know that MERSA isn't anything to fool around with.  I have a cousin, whose daughter has had several episodes with it.  You are so fortunate to get such good care where you live.  I know it really gives your family great peace of mind.

Joan, hope you have a productive day doing your errands.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Good Morning Everyone.

About bank accounts and putting children (or anyone) on the account "just in case" there is a provision in law that you may not be aware of and could cause problems when we pass.

Risks of joint bank accounts

.....snip....
Rights of survivorship

In addition, most joint accounts carry rights of survivorship.

"So, if one of the joint holders dies, there is nothing the surviving joint owner has to do to get that money," Radna says.

In fact, in most cases, a joint account holder's rights to the funds in the account supersedes what's written in a will, says Randall Kessler, a divorce attorney based in Atlanta and past chairman of the American Bar Association's Family Law Section."
....snip....

http://www.bankrate.com/finance/savings/risks-of-joint-bank-accounts-1.aspx

a solution may be create another account with you and your child on it and transfer funds from your main account into the joint account.
In short keep your main funds separate from the joint account.  I have known of two people who have passed away and family greed has come into play.  We don't like to think of our children in this manner, but........

JoanFL

Larry--I missed your post yesterday.  It's wonderful that with your granddaughter now living with Scott you are getting to know her.

Lloyd--That's darned cold.  Stay warm.

Joy--And the BIG news here is that while I was out doing errands it started to rain.  It only lasted about an hour, but every little bit helps.  How nice that your son and DIL can go to Calgary to ski.

halkel--I want the two children who are on my bank accounts to empty them when I pass on.

Denver

A good Wednesday morning HELLO.

It is cold and dreary looking out my window this morning....it looks like Germany weather to me!  We are going in to a cold snap with the potential of a foot of snow.....  I knew I should have escaped this place as soon as the holidays were over.

Thank you, Joan, for all the goodies this morning. Happy to read you have received some rain....hope you get some more.

LARRY, I am smiling and feeling so delighted that Jennifer is in your life now.  It is hear warming to read what you have been doing for her.  I do not know if I missed you telling what her age is....I hope you will not mind me asking?

JACKIE, I sure wish you could hang out with a totally different group of friends.....the ones you spend time with are just no fun!   All kidding aside....I do wish you had something that you could hope and pray for to get better.....  HUGS.

GLORIA, it is had to find people these days that care about their jobs.  People are demanding higher wages and yet many do not want to work period!  It sounds like Regina is enjoying the new life of retirement in AZ?  They have been having a lot of rain there.  My friend lives in Cortes Junction and her back yard has been a big lake this past week with all the rain they have received.

Thank you, HAL, for sharing the info about checking accounts.  Many people think they have things covered, and find out later that they do not.

The snow has started and I must get out to the market to pick up a few things, so will wish you all a good day.

JUNE, I hope you are back in your place and feeling much better.

Good afternoon, it is still cloudy but warm, it has rained for two days,if this had been snow!!?????

Jenny hope you go out and did your shopping, before snow got too bad.
Joan, wish I could send you some of this rain, my yard looks like a flood zone.
Larry please to see you are enjoying your g.daughter

Jane, I will add that I have my DIL from Mass on my bank account. My other DIL is in Fla. so I do not have much choice. I found out when I had that stay in the hospital and nursing home 2 years ago. It was hard to get my hands on cash.

June, I hope the next time we hear from you. it will be from your nest.

Gloria, I am sorry your girl did not show up, I hear that from other people from here that still work.  They do not even call in to say they are not coming. Year ago you would not have kept the job.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
from the cool, but mostly clear,  rocky coast of Maine. We have quite a bit of rain last night so the surface is mostly clear with just a bit of snow here and there.
No big problem.

So good to hear that June is going to be coming
back to her apartment soon.   And that they have
that "MRSA"  infection under control.

Congratulations June!

For the next couple of weeks it is going to be
on the warmer side of Winter Weather
(3 0's and 40's  days and 20's at night)..
This is so much better then when it gets really cold
here.. (in the teens and below zero)...  that I
am hoping that this will last 'til Spring.

(Hope springs eternal?
1. proverb "it is human nature to always find fresh cause for optimism")

Well..  The "Holidays" are not mostly over
(even as the decorations still go on and on!)
I took down my lights the day before  2017...
But I do miss them.

All is well here...
Have a great day, Everyone!

Good morning from a snowy Interior! While the last three years saw us clearing driveways with a tablespoon, that is not the way now. And that long drought we have been in since 2004, well, folks are saying this will go a long way towards ending that. It would be even better if we received some heavy snow in the mountains towards ending that drought.

Farrah has been standoffish most of the last couple of days and has been doing lots of bird watching and not much snuggling.

I have errands to run that should have been done last week so I will be busy today.

Larry, I'm glad you are establishing a relationship with Jennifer and June, it will be nice to be home again with your leg better.

Here's to us all having that great day and that everything goes as good as it gets!

JoanFL

Sandy--Good that you find the weather you are having acceptable.  To me, it would be COLD.

Angelface--Today was errand day for me, too.
