Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's a breakfast buffet to go with your coffee or tea.  I wish ALL a blessed day.

Thanks to Phyllis for her nice “The Beauty of Winter” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Reality TV

I realized that my five-year-old grandson had been watching too many reality TV shows the day we attended a relative's wedding.

As the four bridesmaids walked down the aisle toward the front of the church, he turned to me and asked, "Is this where the groom decides which one he wants to marry?"

Food For Thought

Livin' With the Fear No More
(By Chris Long)

Back before I truly gave my heart to Jesus and asked Him to be my Savior and Lord in July 1995, I had quite a number of fears. But there was one that stands out among all the others - the fear of death. The Lord was reminding me of this today as I pondered some songs I had written in that seemingly long-ago year of 1995 when I was 14-15 years old.

One of those songs was called "Livin' With the Fear" and its chorus went something like this:

"Livin' with the fear, every night, every night
Livin' with the fear
Livin' with the fear, every night, every night
Livin' with the fear
Cause you never know when the day will come,
the day when you will die.
Yes you never know when the day will come,
the day when you will die"

This was written in late January 1995. I can remember pondering death and feeling scared and hopeless about it. Not that these lyrics are anything stellar, but they certainly put that fear into clear and concise words, no? It honestly terrified me and I remember telling myself just not to think about it. The easiest thing to do was just to avoid thinking about it. I suspect this is the same approach that many people still take.

But you know, a funny thing happened. In early July of that same year, I truly surrendered to the Lord. In my case, it wasn't anything "showy" by human terms - it was just me and the Lord in my garage. But after working through some big questions I had about God ("why do bad things happen?" etc.) I came to the place where I made the choice to choose Jesus Christ. I realized I was a sinner and needed a Savior - and that God had provided such a Savior for me. I placed my faith in Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins and to make me right with God. I won't say that I instantly felt massively different, but I was different and knew it.

Once I surrendered to God, His peace came into my life and manifested itself by transforming several areas of my outward behavior. In literally only a few months, I was a very different person to most anybody that was looking.

Romans 5:1-2 says: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God." (NIV)

Besides transforming behavior, this peace transformed my thinking. One of the key things that changed was that I suddenly realized several months later that I didn't fear death any more!

Hebrews 2:14-15 says: "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." (NIV)

Just as this Scripture says, I had been set free.

I thought to myself, "you know Chris, you should change that song you wrote earlier." And so I did. I re-wrote the song in late November 1995 - the new chorus went like this:

"Livin' with the fear, no more, no more
Livin' without that fear
Livin' with the fear, no more, no more
Livin' without that fear
But you never know when the day will come,
the day when you will die.
just let the Lord into your life,
leave your worries behind"

Now, yes, I realize that at first glance these words might appear a little simplistic. We know that just because we accept Jesus, it doesn't mean that our life instantly goes perfectly here. But we ARE to leave our worries behind - as a child of God, we are to leave our worries at the cross. We are not to worry but instead to trust God.

And this is no more pertinent then with the issue of death.

See, I had good reason to fear death before I surrendered to God. Really, I did. We are held accountable for what we do with Jesus and if I were to have died knowing about Jesus and what He did for me, but unwilling to place my faith in, and surrender to, Him, I would have had a horrible eternal future to look forward to. No-one really told me all this - nobody told me much about hell. I was largely taught the opposite with my upbringing being in a Christian denomination who believes that all who are baptized as infants, as I was, are automatic "children of God" and going to Heaven. (sidenote because I know someone is thinking it: this is a separate issue from infants that die - I'm not addressing that in this article)

But no amounts of theology like this - no matter how great it sounded on paper - could keep me from what I innately knew - even as a 15-year-old. I feared death because I innately knew deep-down inside that I was not right with God because I had not chosen to admit my sin and put my faith in Christ. Even with my very limited knowledge at the time, I knew that the Scriptures didn't teach an "automatic salvation," but rather a salvation based on faith. I mean, even John 3:16 lays that one out pretty clearly. I certainly didn't understand any of this nearly like I do now, but I understood enough and in simple faith, humbled myself before God. And God met me in that simple faith and came to reside in me.

But before that happened, I defintely had reason to fear. It WAS terrifying. It would have been horrible. A future in darkness with "weeping and gnashing of teeth" doesn't sound so enticing, you know what I mean? Again, I don't think I consciously realized all this at the time - I was just thinking of fearing the process or method of dying, etc. But really I had good reason to fear - beyond what I could even comprehend at the time.

But what a difference 10 months makes!

You see, I wrote that first song on January 26, 1995 and I wrote the second song on November 20, 1995. Basically 10 months. And you know what event was right about in the middle? You guessed it - my surrendering and placing my faith in Jesus Christ. It was basically 5 months prior to that event that I wrote the first song and it was basically 5 months after that event that I wrote the second song. This little tidbit blew me away when the Lord showed me that today. It's funny how the Lord works, you know?

The Bible only tells us that there is one legitimate object of fear - and that could be considered more of a "reverential" type rather than a "cowering in the corner" type - and that is a "fear of the Lord". The Bible says in Psalm 111:10a that "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom". If you have an appropriate fear of the Lord and put God in His proper place in your heart and life, then all other fears in this life of other human beings and circumstances, and even death itself, are inconsequential to say the least.

Even as a believer though, there have been times when I've let fear get the better of me, even with this whole issue of death. But the truth is that as believers we have absolutely nothing to fear at all. If God is our Father (and He IS), and if this is the same God who made the universe and made us (and He IS), and if this is the God that has given us His promise that those who have faith in His Son will have everlasting life with Him, then we have NOTHING to fear.

In Romans 8:15-16, Paul tells us: "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." (NIV)

We are not to be slaves of fear - death or otherwise. If you've placed your faith in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins and have consciously chosen Christ, the Spirit Himself dwells in you and confirms to you that you are His and are sealed by Him.

Leave the worrying to those outside of Christ. They SHOULD worry. They SHOULD be afraid. Perhaps that fear and worry will, like me, help them to become more open to learning about how they can be set free from all that by humbling themselves before the very God that made them.

But as blood-bought, redeemed children of God that are abiding in Him, we have absolutely nothing to fear in this life - and worry should be a thing of the past. The King has set us free. The King has declared us righteous. No matter what the future may hold here on this planet and the exact methodology by which we will die, it matters not because this is all passing away anyway. This body is just our shell - how it goes is of little importance. Our spirit lives on. We're going to see the King and we will be with Him forever and ever. Hallelujah!!!! What else really matters?

"Livin' With the Fear No More!"

Is that your cry today? Can you say that you no longer are a slave to fear - fear of man or fear of circumstances you cannot control?

If not, you can change that right now:

"Dear Lord, Forgive me for my fear and worry. I know that everything is in Your hands, including my life. You are the Lord over all and that includes my body. Help me to live as the free and redeemed child that you have made me. Help me to live with no fear of others and of circumstances and to wholly trust You with everything that is happening or may happen in the future. Please remove all such fear now from my life and instead teach me how to appropriately fear You as I recognize that is where wisdom begins. Thank you for dying for me and paying my sin debt that I could never pay. I love you Jesus. Amen."

With Christ's love,
Chris Long
Thought of the Day

"Our lives are full of supposes. Suppose this should happen, or suppose that should happen; what could we do; how could we bear it? But, if we are living in the high tower of the dwelling place of God, all these supposes will drop out of our lives. We shall be quiet from the fear of evil, for no threatenings of evil can penetrate into the high tower of God."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning and Thank You to you Joanie for all you do for us and especially for today's offerings.  You are a special person for all the time you give to us!

I'll be back later.  I have to go feed the doggies and get ready for church.  I think I better try to start the car.  It's been sitting idle since I came from work Friday and with the cold weather and snow we've been having, that's not good.

Harry is with me but he is not settling today....at the moment he is by my feet in the office as I type at the computer but has done a lot of crying-whimpering, a tad quieter at the moment....R is out on his walk with Toby as I think it may have been Toby's playful barking that frightened Harry off to the front door where he was crying and whimpering, even after some time, after they had gone out.....He wouldn't come even when I tried to coax him....When R comes back I may have to send him down the slope to get Harry's temporary owner up to collect him...he will be in for the day....I have tried picking him up in my arms and carrying into the living room, stroking him, then placing him down in his bed but, he just gets out and back to the front door just waiting for someone to come and open it so he can shoot off back home...Poor Harry just doesn't seem a happy dog...but he did look eager off lead running up our path to our front door when he was brought here, that was until he heard Toby barking...It is quiet and calm in the home at the moment but, I know Harry just wants to leave......

Vanilla-Jackie--Awww, poor Harry.  He just doesn't know where he belongs.  Maybe if he stays a longer time at your house he will feel like he belongs there.

Where's Amy this morning?  I hope all is OK with them.

Good morning, Amy.   I guess you were just all worn out from all you have to regularly do and needed some extra rest.  When the VON removes the chemo bottle, is it replaced with another one?  Soup is perfect for that frigid weather you are having.

Good Morning Everyone!

Getting ready to leave for church.  Dry here this morning, don't know what prediction for weather is, they don't either, TV says one thing paper says another.

Jackie, a suggestion, keep Harry there for a couple of days, let him get adjusted to a new home, taking him back to his present home after just a few hours is not good, IMO.  Just as someone said, confuses him.  He is a beautiful little guy and needs some TLC.  Tender loving care.

Got to run....

Joan, that is the 3rd part of his chemo, 2 he gets in the hospital and this one to wear home in a fanny pack . Needless to say he isn't too keen on the fanny pack but the bottle is empty in 46 hours.

Hal, I agree, this little fellow is feeling so scared but Jackie has more than enough love to give this little one.She will bring him out of his shyness and in time he will also play with Toby.

Wood is in and yard cleaned up of land mines from the dogs...

Now for a cuppa tea.

Lloyd, thanks for the helpful information.  I did think (hope?) it could be repaired or replaced.  On Tuesday I intend to call the audiologist who originally provided my hearing aids.  They are 8 years old, 3 years past the warranty, so I'm holding my breath.  Of course, that also means the other one may give out at any moment - then I'm REALLY in trouble - or maybe not.  If I can't hear some things it might be good.  ;D

Amy--Thanks for explaining about your husband's chemo.

Good morning, Callie.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  I sure hope your hearing aid can be repaired (at little cost).

Jackie, I too hope that you will give Harry a few days to settle in. He needs tender loving care of which you have an abundance for God's little creatures.

Sunday Morning and the sun is bright. We have another new day to rejoice in.  I just noticed it is eight o'clock, so I must cut this short and go down for a bandage change.

Time is now 4.20pm, Harry is still here...thought he was never going to settle, kept whimpering at the front door....he hardly eats anything at all...he is now resting, dont think he sleeps, in his bed, is very astute to sounds, just pops his head up occasionally...Harry did jump onto the sofa, he is happy to sit beside one of us but, when you get up close to his face, perhaps for a kiss, he turns his head away, I also notice his head goes down as if he thinks you are going to hit him, so one has to be slow and careful when you bring your hand to stroke his head.....so seems to be slightly on the nervous side...I shall be feeding the dogs soon, will bring it slightly forward but, I have a sneaky feeling his appetite is almost non existent judging by the paltry amount he had this morning from his meat sachet that his temp owner brought round, probably not even a medium size spoonful....I have some tiny chicken strips and tiny pieces but he wasn't interested this morning when I offered him a piece but he did take a tiny piece of sausage from my fingers but the minutest pieces that if you blink you would miss it...

Vanilla-Jackie--It sure sounds like Harry has been abused.  At least he will now sit beside one of you.

Jackie, please keep him for a couple of days, overnight and see if he wont settle down and become more friendly.

I have a boxer and boxers are nervous dogs.  Or I should say used to be.  When you petted her head she would flinch and her ears would go down flat on her head.  Not any more, matter of fact she looks forward to her morning "rub down" from head to foot.  Like I have said before, she is spoiled rotten and I know it and wouldn't have it any mother way.  Isn't that the definition of "pets".  I am sure Harry is just uncertain what is going to happen from one minute to the next, based on past experience.  Like Amy and June said your love for animals will overcome any fear in good time.  Look at Patricia and her fearless hunter cat....it wouldn't even come out from under the bed and lay at the door checking the hallway....remember.

Good afternoon, the sun is shining. It did snow last night, but now that much. I feel a little stronger to day. I am trying to write, but Taffy is setting here in front of the PC looking at me.

Joan, I also 2nd but Jane said, you keep us informed and happy.
Phyllis, I love the graphic, thanks.

Jackie, I also agree it will take time with Harry. I know you have the patience. Look how Patricia;s kitty came around to her, after awhile, and is now a loving cat.

JeanneLee, I did have to get a new hearing aid, after I lost mine. my one for the right ear does not work with the new. I need another new one, but cannot afford two.

Gloria, so sorry to read you have had trouble with you PC again.

I have a nurse coming in for the next 3 weeks, I am not to leave the house, unless it it for a doctor's appointment. I can have someone come in and cook also, but I am able to make my own.

June, always good to see you posting. Last summer as I wrote, my wound took over 3 months to heal.

Don, I am glad to read you made it safe and sound, I am sure Bubble will get better, faster now that you are there.

Jackie, I'll bet he was concerned when R & Toby left he was afraid he would be next to be "walked out the door". He has probably become terrified that he will be left alone or with someone that won't be in his life tomorrow. I do hope you get full custody of him soon and think he will become the devoted furry friend you found in others.  You know that humans are afraid to love again if they have been "dumped" by someone they trusted...  I have been surprised how much LaurenKat watches what Tom & Tiger do and where they are, when Cas was alive HE was all she thought about.  I don't have time to sit & hold her all day like Cas did, so she has learned to include them in her circle of friends (meaning me).  Good luck.

Our ice storm hasn't done much damage so far, on my way to church at 7:00 am I only saw one tree branch down, not a big one.  We had a pretty good shower about half an hour ago & I thought that would wash the ice off the trees, but instead it got thicker because the temp dropped a degree.  I came home from church & grabbed the camera to go across the river & take pics... not as pretty as one taken when we first bought the house & had lots of snow on the ground & trees.  Then I drove through the park & took a few more, but the ice was starting to melt off fast.

When I was standing on the bike path across the river, taking photos of the back of my house... I heard a big bird's wings "swishing" & thought it was a Canada goose... & looked up to see the white head of the eagle!  I had the camera on zoom & couldn't get it widened out fast enough to get a good shot but got a couple & can tell by the shape it is an eagle... just can't see it's white head.  If I got any good photos I will resize & post some later, want to eat that donut I bought at the store when I took a slight detour.

Jeanne Lee, hope you can get all fixed up without a lot of expense.  My son looked at the nail still sticking out of my rear tire & said he thinks it just came through the tread & didn't go through the whole tire.  Will first call to see if it has any warranty & if not, he said he'd try pulling it out & put a plug in.... he did that to a tire of his & was fine until he had to replace all 4.  If that doesn't work it means a new matching tire so know that will not be cheap!  Did I mention that Sam's Club fixed the other tire & didn't charge a thing and wouldn't even let me go get them something to munch, said "they are not allowed".

Joan, don't know how you manage to find the goodies but had to smile at the wedding choices.  Thanks!

Phyll, love the "Beauty of Winter".... why I was out with a camera today, but wish we'd had some snow.  Your barn & out buildings made me think of last time I was at my gr-mother's house & still a few of family things around, there was a huge home made wooden cart like wheel barrow leaning up against the smoke house garage end.  How I wish we'd had a trailer to bring it home, would have been so neat to have out in the yard with potted plants on it.  They had a whole row of connected buildings so expect that cart had never been left outside.

Better go check on weather, still raining but the trees look like they are collecting ice more than when I was out.  Temps may not be going up as much as weather guessers thought.  The big damage was supposed to be last night, but as our old baseball buddy used to say, "It ain't over 'till it's over".....

Linedancer, glad you are feeling better... and that Taffy is being such good company.  Does insurance or Medicare take care of having a nurse come by?  I truly don't know what benefits come with Medicare but think that is great for those of us with nobody else around to help.

Hal, you mention Patricia's fearless hunter... yesterday when I was looking out the window at Mama Callie watching the snow birds at the feeder hanging from a shepherds' hook, she strolled over to right under the feeder, which is ceramic sunflower shape hanging from 3 chains.... sat under it a few minutes & watched those birds pop onto the feeder & back to the tree so another could come eat... Callie jumped straight into the air & hooked her paw around one of the birds & dropped back to the ground without touching the feeder.  I really didn't like her catching a bird but those little snow birds are SO dumb. Lauren used to catch them all the time when we had some low evergreen spreaders in the back yard.  She no more got that bird & the others were back at the feeder. If these cats weren't feral I would never let them out to hunt.... but more humane to put them to sleep than confine these.

Tisie, a hint.  If that nail has ruined the sidewall of your tire and cant be patched.  Check to see if they have an innertube that will fit the tire and put a new tube in it and make it a tube type tire vs tubeless.  Tubes "used" to be inexpensive and available for most tires.  a new tire will cost you an arm and leg.

I just got this in my email, very, very interesting.  Kinda long 13 minutes but it will keep you interest and be usre to watch the end, it explains something I was not aware of.

"it is happening all over the world, and more and more often, so you may as well learn about it.
The scientific explanation is at the end.

Jackie.  Looks like the two dogs accept each other. That is a good sign.  Good though that you get all the History on it along with Medical. Could be that it was given a diet of hand fed food from the owner. If not short on money could have been not the best for animals. Can't picture have those other animals in her house.

The choice of overnight was not down to us, I had suggested that for yesterday but, think temp owner was trying to wean Harry gradually, as conversation tonight was that he has some more work to do on him, which we agreed before he can and will be re-homed....Well I got dinner ready a tad earlier 4.45, as he was coming for him at 5.30 unless we got him to come collect Harry sooner, which we did as Harry had no interest on eating...I made up a small saucer of what owner had left with us plus I added a spoonful of Tobys sachet food, Xmas turkey dinner, but I just couldn't get him to touch it so sent for owner thinking he would have better luck but when he come there was no excitement from Harry so I personally think Harry is pining for his dead mistress, but I can only assume that as I never knew her....Harry eventually took some food from the saucer from his owner in front of me but nowhere near enough to eat for a day, and even that took some coaxing, as he kept shying away from it, which was just the tiniest piece of food, not even enough to fill the stomach of the tiny breed of dog that he is....Myself and owner chatted about what he knows of Harry's circumstances and know he has more work to do on him of which I told him I wish I could be the one to help him and work on him but I cant as I am still grieving over my Benji...Needless to say, I made it clear that as much as I loved Harry he is not what we are looking for, a playmate for our Toby, a dog that shows some form of happiness and excitement when they see me, and a dog that R can give a walk to...Harry also does not play even though owner brings his favourite soft toy, he has no interest....I feel so much for this little dog that I dont want to see him flit from home to home, that will only make him worse...Both myself and R have openly volunteered that we are here if he ever needs somewhere to drop Harry off for the day, I think under the circumstances this is the best way to leave it...

SHIRLEY...
...I got R to take Toby out from the backdoor entrance, so Harry didn't even know they had gone out rather than taking Toby out the front door where Harry could have run off...

halkel--All these animals have different personalities.  We have sinkholes all the time in FL.  Thanks for the link.

Linedancer--Glad you are feeling somewhat better.  It's good to know a nurse will be coming to check on you.

Shirley--You sure do get out and about.

Hi JeanneP.

Vanilla-Jackie--Only you and "R" can make the decision about whether to rehome Harry.

Good morning everyone. I was a sleepy one this morning. After the mention of filling pill boxes I forgot to fill mine yesterday. Something I have done on Saturday for years. I have a weekly one so Saturday is when I do that job. If I get anymore meds I will have to get a bigger box.

JACKIE  Toby looked like he did not know what to think of Harry.  Harry looks sad. Being hand fed is something I never knew of anyone doing for their pets.

JOAN  for the trust I have in HP I would not be surprised if the flash drive never gets here. The biggest inspection here is when the owners come to check things out. They do not go to all the apartments. They pick 17 or 18 to check and if you are not home they will go in and check anyway.

CALLIE  one DIL got a part Chihuahua dog from the PC tech we had. He was/is friendly but would growl at my other DIL. Must have been her scent that reminded him of someone who mistreated him. I often wondered if it was the tech's wife, she did not want the dog, said he barked too much. He is scared to get in a car, too. Shakes and cries like a baby the whole time.

JOAN  it is horrible when mean people just drop dogs and cats off because the do not want them.

JUNE  I am so very happy to be back with our “family”.  Those who say they do not want a computer and would not want one just cannot understand how a group of people who will never meet can be a family like ours. Just like they wonder what my daughter and I can find to talk about for an hour or more every day on Skype.  I ask them what do you and your daughter or son find to talk about when you see each other. They say -that is different. Not really we see each other as we talk.

GLORIA de  so sorry you were in the hospital again. I did notice when I was reading to catch up yesterday I did not see a post from you. Take care of yourself.

SHIRLEY  you are not as glad as I am to be back here. I sure will keep my grandson around. He really knows computers after all the years he has worked with them. I will have to call him again. My Cox email is messed up again. Happens every time I have problems. Sure glad I have Google and gmail. It was at his home where I had Christmas with my adorable great grandson. My 2 sons know how to cook. Younger one is the cook in his family. When his wife and daughter take over who knows what kind of garbage they come up with. Went there for Thanksgiving and the only thing I could eat was what my son cooked. My older son now that he is retired has taken over making supper at night so my DIL does not have to. He surprises me how inventive he can be. I taught my 3 how to cook the basics when they were young.  I think my SIL could make a sandwich if he tried. His Mom was a terrible cook and my daughter taught him how to eat a variety of food.

PATRICIA  amazing how some cashiers do not know how to figure money if the registers are not working.  They cannot even add 2+2 and come up with 4. I have seen that happen.

MARY ANN  hard to believe a lake that huge could have so much ice. I remember going to the shore in the winter and seeing the edge of the surf frozen. As the waves came in it would rise and fall. Until I saw that I did not know salt water could freeze. My last HP was a better one than this one is. My printer is an HP and I have had it for more years than I can remember.

HAL  if I liked having my name and face on TV I most likely would have called the TV station.  After I bought this machine I fould out that HP is getting away from computers and branching out to other things. Wish I had talked to my grandson first. Just heard the Pats won last night. Poor Texas team.

CALLIE  your weatherman sounds like the ones on our local channels.  Each one is different and none are right.

JOAN  I still like keeping my personal business to myself.

LLOYD  take care of yourself.

SHIRLEY  no do not ever shut up. Love your posts.

JEANNE LEE   hope that wire can be fixed.

JUNE  like you I am seldom hungry and eat because I know I have to.

LARRY  doubt you were hoping the Patriots would win last night. I am glad they did but only because they are a local team.

PHYLLIS  I agree with your graphic. Winter can be beautiful with fresh snow on the ground before people and traffic get it messed up and dirty.

JOAN  since it is now after noon  I am too late for the breakfast buffet. Cannot believe I have been reading and commenting over an hour already. Chuckles, if those Reality shows depended on me to stay on TV there would be none  of them. Food for Thought is a keeper and one to read often. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  I agree with you, Joan is a very special lady. I knew that years ago back in SN and the Nest.

DON  glad Bubble is starting to feel better. I have no idea the difference between c and °but it is 36° here now a1:30pm,sun is shining bright and beautiful.

JACKIE  sounds like Harry is not used to having another dog around. Dould be he is at the door wanting to go for a walk, too?

AMY  my goodness, sleeping till 7am, will not tell you what time I woke up. You did a day's chores before I woke up.  Soup is always good on a cold day.

HAL  I agree about keeping Harry for a week or so and staying there to get used to Jackie's home and herm R and Toby. Going back and forth is not helping the poor dog at all.

Good morning from a cold Alaskan Interior! It happened, temperatures dropped and we are now at minus 27 and will have lows of minus 35 to minus 44 until about January 24th. Since I really do not have to go anywhere until the 25th, this will hopefully work out. One of the many sometimes that being retired is a good thing!  :smitten:

Farrah is lying in the middle of the floor on her back with all four feet curled and resting on her stomach, out like a light.

Everyone enjoy your day!

Gloria--Thanks for your kindness.  If that flash drive shows up, you have no use for it now, right?

Angelface--That's how Farrah gets her ZZZs.:)

Good Afternoon,

It's cold, wet and gloomy in central Oklahoma and I'm "giving in" to my squeaks and creaks.   :surrender:

Angelface,  I do so enjoy your Farrah stories.

Gloria,  I've never quite understood the attraction to Chihuahuas.

Shirley,  isn't St. Elmo Colorado one of the places you've enjoyed?  A Facebook picture yesterday showed a building there literally buried in snow up to the roof line .  That area, including Leadville, has really been hit hard with a visibility reducing blizzard.

Don,  so glad Bubble is feeling better - and that it's balmy and sunny there.  I look forward to it being that way again here.

Re:  Harry.....    I've seen dog adoption ads that said the dog needed to be the only pet in the home and wonder if Harry might be one of those.   Bless his heart.

Lindancer,  even with the restrictions,  it's nice that you can be in your own home.   Good thoughts coming your way.
After I saw a national weather report of snow in NYC,  I texted Miss Ellen to see if she had been out in it.  She replied that she was for a bit - but hadn't known it was supposed to snow, so didn't stay long.

Back to the recliner for Netflix and e-books.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

GLORIA...
Harry hadnt long gotten here and his temporary owner had not long walked him although told he doesn't do walks but as he is living down the slope and on flat land away from any traffic, his owner lets him out of the front door to do his own thing, sniff around and come back when he is ready, we cant do that up here as we are at the top of the slope where any transport that comes in would be lethal as it passes our home...R took Harry for a short walk yesterday but said he was hard work as he literally wasn't interested on going far, stopping and wanting to come back...I feel so bad for Harry, seems such a sad dog...We, us, and his temp owner, says he belives harry hasn't been taught commands, so there is very little he responds to....He does show signs of some nervousness....

Gloria Z, my beef about computers and printers is that I will have a printer that works fine and if I get a new computer, the printer will not work on the new computer.  I don't think it is the computer that causes the problem but the program.  I recently bought a W-10 HP computer and Tom could not get the printer to work.  He has a Brothers printer and I can print from his printer.  The only troubles are that he is downstairs, he is out of paper and the toner is low.  If I want something bad enough, I e-mail it to myself and bring it up on my older computer and print from there.

Hal, that was an interesting article about sink holes.  There was one within the last month in Fraser, north of Detroit.  I didn't realize so many countries had them, but we just don't hear about them.

Callie, I don't care for small dogs, at least not smaller than a doxie.  We had a medium-to-large dog and Tom's family had a golden retriever.  Good sizes.

Jackie, strictly my opinion, but Harry has had several recent changes in his life and not much time to adjust when more keep coming his way. He may still be grieving. With a dog like this, he may need a strict routine and a settled life with any smaller changes happening slowly over time. He will not change overnight and his basic personality and behavior, as it is now, may never change.

Are you willing to put in the time and effort involved? Do you perhaps want a more active, more affectionate dog with fewer neuroses? One that is more social with you both and with Toby or more like Benji's personality? Do you want Harry and would like to see him be happier and in your life? Even when it may take a longer stretch of time and in increments?  Farrah took five months before she finally began enjoying and trusting, although the smaller signs were happening throughout.

Only you and Richard can answer these questions and if you prefer a different dog then it may be fairer to Harry and his interim caretaker to have him look elsewhere with less disruption to Harry. If you do decide to keep Harry, you will do him a great favor in a settled, more quiet home, even though he will probably prefer a less active existence.

Good luck to all of you.

Callie--Good thing to stay in when the weather is nasty.

Vanilla-Jackie--I really do feel sorry for Harry.

Mary Ann--Computers and printers often are not compatible.

Angelface--Good thoughts you directed to Vanilla-Jackie.

Usually, if a computer and printer are not compatible it is because the right driver is not installed.  You can sometime check the website and download the right driver.  And sometimes you can google and find a work around.  Some years back I did both.  But printers are so cheap now you can normally just buy an el cheapo and use it.

I didn't know there were so many sink holes.  Now I have something else to pray for.

All this discussion of dogs and cats reminded me of my frequent prayer that God will let me outlive both dogs so they don't need to be confused about why I didn't come back.  I know my family will take good care of them if I don't outlive them but I just don't want them to have to wonder.

My son was here to fix my DVD player (It only played in B&W) and when he was leaving, he asked if I was doing anything special.  I said "making dinner" is that special enough?  He laughed and asked If Kiran could come over and hang out with me.  She could and she did.  We had a good day and another tomorrow.  I'll go over there in the morning in time for them to go to work so she doesn't have to get up.  Then we'll come back here for lunch and the rest of the day.

My neighbor came over and cleaned off my driveway with a shovel this morning.  There wasn't enough to snowblow so he shoveled.  He's a good guy!

I hope you all had a day as good as mine was.

Jackie, it sure sounds like Harry is a troubled little boy. Only God knows what his background is, and he may be mourning for some one too...who knows. I'm so glad you are willing to keep trying Jackie, only God knows what would happen to him otherwise.

Bis, yes, the bandage is changed every day, but now I am confined to my room again. We have diarrhea going around the complex. Mine started shortly after lunch and have had 8 trips to the bathroom so far. They just delivered me a can of Gator Ade, have been told to drink lots of water, meals will be a special diet, delivered to my door. I am to stay put till tomorrow noon. Talk about good care...we have it !

Gloria de, I do remember your telling me it took three months for your leg wound to heal. If I have my dates proper, it has been about two months for me now, and it looks like it is starting to heal. Do you have poor circulation in your legs ? I do..my leg arteries are 90 percent closed in some areas, 40 percent in other areas, so healing takes a long time. Still have lots of pain. I'm praying you will get stronger with each passing day my dear friend.

Eleven trips to the bathroom now. I'm growing weary. I can see why they are keeping us isolated. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Gary and Dori stopped in earlier today. I hope and pray this did not jump into their lives. I told them what was happening to me, so there were no hugs as we usually exchange. I had plans for things to do tomorrow. Enough of my complaints....

Gloria, I am more than happy that you have such a handy Grandson to help you out with the computer. Please give him my thanks for getting you back on line with us.

Patricia, excellent advice to Jackie. You are a wise and kind animal lover.

Hal, I take a dim view of having to buy a new printer to replace a perfectly good printer just because printers are cheap.  I have one working printer that I can't use because of incompatibility and my present printer won't work on my W-10 computer.  At the rate I seem to be going with printers is I'll have a storeroom full of printers that work, only not on the computer I am using.

I think Tom checked the driver problem but could not get the printer to work.  I can still use the printer with my combo W10/W7 computer.  Thank goodness for flash drives!

Mary Ann

Food For Thought

"A Pack of Seeds"
(Written by Charles G. Ramsey)

I bought myself a pack of seeds,
To grace my garden fair,
And stuck them in my pocket.
For months they waited there.

And when the time had come to see
The flower's lovely face,
I thought it strange that only weeds
Were growing in their place.

How foolish then, oh Christian man,
God's Word, you have indeed.
You carry it or hide it
But do not plant the seed.

No fruit there grows in garden fair,
Unless the seed you sow.
For you the Word of God must plant,

Thought of the Day

"When wicked persons have gone on in a course of sin and find they have reason to fear the just judgement of God for their sins, they begin at first to wish that there were no God to punish them; then by degrees they persuade themselves that there is none; and they set themselves to study for arguments to back their opinion."

- Author Unknown; often ascribed to John Bunyan

June, yes I do have very bad circulations, at times I have no feeling in my left foot. Oh! isn't old age fun. ???

Also yes, Shirley Medicare does pay for 3 weeks of nursing care. I can also have someone come in and cook. This I still can handle very slowly. Thank havens for the microwave.  happy birthday shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm a bit pressed for time this morning.  I have to leave in about a half hour to go to my son's so he and Kiran's mom can get to work on time.  I try to let her sleep in on holidays if possible because I remember how nice it was to have a sleep-in day when I was young.

Have a great day Everyfriend.  It's only 16º here today and not supposed to get above freezing.

Hi everyone on what is to be another beautiful day and get into the mid-70's. When I got up this morning I decided to fix Pat some sausage muffins for her breakfast.  I got everything out and then went to get the sausage out of the meat tray so I could fry it up and I couldn't find it.  I searched for the package in the freezer and the refrigerator without success.  So I decided I would fix her scrambled eggs with bacon bits, cheese, green onions and yellow peppers.  I got everything in the skillet for it would be ready to cook when she arose.  I had to go back to the refrigerator and in a little container I found the sausage that Pat had fried up and crumbled last night after I went to bed.  So I quickly put together the muffins and baked them.  When she got up I did fix the scrambled eggs for her breakfast and she can have the sausage muffins for her breakfast tomorrow.

I am not sure I will try to attend my Monday noon meeting as am feeling pretty tired.  However, maybe by noon I will feel refreshed.  I do plan on attending the monthly men's dinner at the Church this evening.  Pat did feel up to attending Church with me yesterday.  I went to Sunday School and came home and got her for Church.  We went out for lunch following Church.

Phyllis, your graphic that Joan shared with us yesterday sure brought back memories of growing up on the farm and a cold and snowy winter day.

Jackie, it sounds like Harry may not be the type of dog you are needing at this time.  Nice of you and R to volunteer to watch Harry when needed.

Amy, glad you could enjoy a "lazy" day yesterday as it appears you don't have many of those.  I can understand your husband not enjoying the fanny pack for such a long period.

deAngel, I bet Taffy is keeping a close eye on your since your week away in the hospital.  Nice to see that the nurse is coming to you rather than you having to try to get out to be checked.

Shirley, Happy Birthday.

Gloria, I agree with you about our computer family.  Doing a video chat is a very nice way to visit and I do that all the time with my best friend over where we lived.  Sometimes we don't have a lot of talk about but seem to be able to keep chatting for quite awhile.  It was fine with me that the Patriots won their game.  I was sorry to see this morning that Kansas City had lost to Pittsburgh last night.  The game was too late for me to watch it.

Hal, the Epson printer I bought for my wife a couple of days go seems to be a much better built one that some of the others I have had.  It was originally a $150 printer that was on sale for $80.  I did get it wirelessly installed for her yesterday afternoon.

June, sorry that you have some new problems but know you get good care.  I hope you don't get dehydrated.

Good morning on a gray day here.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the graphic.

I'm feeling sad....my brother, Jack, in Wichita, died last evening.  I hadn't seen him for a long time and he had been very ill for some time but, still, I'm sad to have the last of my birth family gone.  Now, I am the only one left.  It is not always easy to accept what Life has in store for us.

Good morning everyone, yep I'm late again. That is what happens when I stay up too late at night. The governor of this state is the only one from New England that will not attend Trump's inauguration.  So much for her, not much liked in this area of the state.

PATRICIA  another plus for being retired, no set time to wake in the mornings and get ready for work.

JOAN  if that flash drive gets here I will save it. I really dread having to install everything again. I have done it too often in this PC. I'm getting too old to waste time doing that again.

CALLIE me neither, I like a bigger dog myself.  The 2 in the family are not pure Chihuahuas and bigger than the purebred ones. Still they like to bark. Remember the bamd leader Xavier Cougat and the tiny one he kept in his pocket? I saw him in person once at the end of the pier in Old Orchard beach, Maine. He was playing there and after a set he would take the tiny dog out of his pocket and hold it in his hand. Weird.

JACKIE  I feel so bad about Harry. He sounds like he has problems that no one knows about.

MARY ANN  I bought this HP printer when I had the last Dell, it has worked with 3 different computers. It was on sale when I bought it at Staples, so far no problems. Smallest dog we ever had was part Beagle and bigger that a pure Beagle. I was shocked looking at all those sinkholes and seeing the cars and houses just sinking into those sudden holes. Frightening.

HAL  the HP printer I have came with a disk to install it and I used that with a new PC and that was all I did.

JUNE  hope you are feeling better today. I agree, I do have a wonderful grandson, my son and DIL did a good job raising him.

JOAN  since I do not care for tacos I will stick to my usual breakfast this morning. Love those Bloopers. I copied A Pack of Seeds. So true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

GLORIA de  cooking is the one thing I do have trouble doing. Standing and me are just about impossible.

HAL  that link is perfect for Shirley.

AMY  hope you can enjoy a lazy day.

LARRY  with my computer down my daughter and I used Face time  but too small to really enjoy.

PHYLLIS  so sorry about your brother. I know that feeling of being the last of your siblings. I am the last from a big family.

Good morning again, sun shinning. I went to bed at 6 and got up at 8:30I will not be doing to much to day so here I am.

Phyllis, so sorry to read about your brother passing. My prays are with you and family.

Gloria, our last dog was a Great Dane, we had her for 12 years. We had to have her put to sleep, as her back legs gave out. If you set on the couch, she backed up and set with you, her two front feet would be on the floor.

Larry, yes Taffy is hanging on me, when I went back to bed this morning, I woke up to her sleeping on my legs.

Larry--Sounds like you had a bit of confusion getting Pat's breakfast fixed today.  I still think you are becoming a good cook.

Phyllis--Please accept my condolences on the death of your brother, Jack.  I know it's difficult for you.

Gloria--Does your CNA do some cooking for you?

deAngel--Good that you were able to sleep so long.  Taffy is sure a good companion for you.

Hello again. I'm on my iPad and Kiran is on the computer. I wanted to tell Phyllis how sorry I am about jack. Even when we don't see our siblings or close cousins often. We miss them them when they are gone.

I also need to ask for your prayers for my grandniece, Bethany. She is in the hospital with a urinary tract infection and a very high fever (spikes to 104 and once to 105. They have ruled out a kidney infection (thank you God) but still have not determined the cause. She is 16 years old and a real sweetheart. I know God will hear all prayers on her behalf. Please pray! Thank you!

Wishing you a VERY Happy Birthday dear Tisie. Any parties in the offing ? I can picture the kitties meowing you a Birthday song.

Gloria de, it is this darn circulation problem that can cause so many disturbances in our bodies. We need the oxygen that the blood carries through our veins, and when there is a blockage in the veins, there is not enough oxygen to help in the healing. My leg gets very painful too, so I have to use a medication for pain plus all the other meds that are recommended for our various ills. But, it keeps us going, so I should not complain.

Gramma Janie, have a fun day with your dear Kiran.

Hal, I loved your kitties singing Happy Birthday to our Tisie. They fit right in with her life style.

Larry, we get excellent care here, and I never cease to be thankful. They have been plying us with Gator Ade.. it supposedly supplies you with the triglycerides ???? one loses with this ailment. Proper meals are delivered to our door, so though I am incarcerated for another day, it is not unpleasant.

Phyllis, I can share in your feeling of loneliness. I too am the only one left in my birth family..some cousins up north that I don't really now, and the cousins I did know are now all deceased. But we go forward to live for those in our present family, right ? Hugs, girl.

Gloria, your Governor is not alone in her dislike of Trump. He is a different personality from some of our past presidents for sure. But I think many of us are hoping for a renewal of our United States through him. God is still in Charge, so I don't feel concern.

Gloria de, I am happy that you got a few hours of sleep. Every little bit helps, and sleep is so healing. I wish you could have some of  the TLC they give us here.

Janie, I am so sorry that your Bethany is suffering from this infection. It can be very painful, plus a dangerous type of infection. I pray God is watching over her, healing her, and loving this young girl that he created before she was born.

Excuse me. I need to make a correction in one of my statements. I was talking about Gatorade and used the terminology "triglycerides".  the proper word is electrolyte. I am a DUH..but then..when the lion went roaring through the jungle saying, "I AM KING OF THE JUNGLE !" The little monkey looked down from the branches and said, "Well I been sick !" ::)

Phyllis, I am sorry to read about your brother.  I know what you mean about being the only one left.  Of course, in Norm's and my case, there were only the two of us anyway.

Joan, on my screen, the last sentence of the  poem was lost but I am sure it ended with "grow".

Hal, I have a P1102W HP printer, HP Pavilion Notebook.  I went to Devices and Printers to see what I could do and was interrupted while we went to help Annie celebrate her 21st birthday and I came back to find this still waiting for me.

It seems we may be on the north edge of any ice storm, but I'm not sure.  Tom thought our sidewalk seemed a bit icy so I went to the car through the garage, but driving as a whole was OK (says me, the passenger).

I was gone for nearly two hours so had a few messages to read.

Jane, I am sorry to hear about Bethany and I hope she recovers soon.

Shirley, I am not sure if I wished you a Happy Birthday elsewhere, so if this is a duplicate, it's much better than if I missed it entirely.  I wish I could send you the greeting I had for Annie last year - Kendrick is sitting on top of chair back and I made up a note that read "Happy Birthday, Mother.  Love, Kendrick" (he is really Annie's cat).

Lloyd, I don't know what we're going to do with you - if you're not in the hospital with two infections, you're there because you overdid something on your heavy equipment and hurt yourself.

All I can say is "GET WELL QUICK!"

June--They sure do take excellent care of you there at Rowntree.

Mary Ann--Somehow the word "grow" got left off my original--sorry about that.

Lloyd--I am  so sorry to read you are in the hospital with two infections.  I pray the medical personnel will get them under control.

JaneS,  prayers and good thoughts going out for Bethany.  She is very young to be dealing that kind of infection.

Lloyd -   :shakehead:   In the hospital....again?    :dontknow: to do with you!
Seriously - I do hope the infections will be taken care of ASAP.

Phyllis, I was so sorry to read about your brother Jack. I know you had mentioned him a number of times but it always comes at a shock doesn't it?

Janie, I was also sorry to read about Bethany. I sincerely hope she has good doctors who are able to think outside the box and good medical care in and out of the hospital.

Lloyd, All of this medical bits and pieces are trying to tell you something, aren't they?

Larry, I need someone of your caliber to make my meals ahead! Think Pat can spare you for a daily morning quick trip?

Farrah has a rub down morning expectation similar to Hal's lady. She will stretch out on her side after sticking her butt in the air and stretching her morning kinks out. When she is fully stretched out on her side and looking at you as if you missed an obivously clue, you approach, bend down and with your hand spread, you rub up and down her side. You place your right hand's thumb against her stomach and the remaning fingers against her back. Then you press in just firm enough and swipe your hand back and forth. After spending a few moments at this, you are then free to go and get your first cup of coffee.

Gloria de. Taffy is showing she missed you and wants to keep a better eye and paw on you!

Good afternoon to everyone I've missed.

Just had a text from Bridget (that's Bethany's older sister.  These are the kids that used to visit me every summer for a couple weeks.  Bridget says that the Drs have not found a sign of infection in Bethany's kidneys nor has it gotten into her bloodstream.  Thanks be to God!  She has a Urinary Tract infection and they are dealing with that with very strong antibiotics.  These kids are very special to me a is their mother.  And my sister is very worried while she is still caring for my brother who is improving from his bout.  It's been a bad winter for this family and I hope the rest of the year gives them some relief.  Please pray for recovery for Bethany while she fights this infection.  And for her parents and grandparents, too.

I've had a lovely  (and tiring day) with Kiran.  We did a lot of things together and I missed my nap this afternoon.  So I think I'll go to bed early and get a good start tomorrow.  Thanks to all who prayed for Bethany.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

JaneS, it is hard when bad illnesses hit one family.  I hope your family will soon be well.

Patricia, Kendrick is much like Farrah in that he likes that morning rub.  He usually comes in my bedroom to help me make the bed (also helps me unmake it at night), does his stretch, the goes on his side so I can massage him.  I do that a few times, then tell him "I'll be back" and I get ready for the day.  Sometimes he is still on my bed but not always.

I think, I hope, I am on the mend. I had 24 hours of problems, and now fine since noon today.

Jane, I am very thankful to hear that Bethany has no kidney infection. The urinary tract can be painful all by itself, she didn't need additional problems.

I am going to get ready for an early bed, so I can enjoy a full day tomorrow. Have a good night my dear ones. Do keep well and happy. I send you Prayers, Hugs and Love. June

Thank you for the birthday greetings, Joan, GloriaD, Joy, Janie, Amy, Jackie, Phyllis, oh, Hal, what a hoot! Thank you, Callie, Larry, Gloria, Mary Ann (funny note from Kendrick) & June. It has been a special birthday starting with the oldest grandson inviting me out for breakfast since he had the day off to take care of his 6 year old (school out for the holiday).  When I arrived at the breakfast place my son & wife and their daughter & her 2 month old joined us.

GloriaD, "if you set on the couch, she backed up and set with you, her two front feet would be on the floor", that is exactly what my son's Great Dane does & I couldn't believe my eyes first time I saw him do it.

Phyllis, I am so sorry to read about Jack's passing. It is a lot further for you to get back here to visit than what I have to drive (to MO) to visit my siblings.  It doesn't matter how long since we have seen them, the fact that we know we can't ever see them again leaves a big empty hole in our heart.  Hugs to you.

Jane, since I started this about noon you already had better news about Bethany, will still include her in my prayers, and hope 2017 is a better year for all of them, including you!

I have an eye appointment in the morning so better get to bed, it has been a long day (no nap) and my eyes are bleary.  This is my 3rd visit with this opthamologist & I'm not going to do the eye exam for glasses this year.  He's done it twice & the glasses are not fitting too good.  I can wear them for highway driving but have to take them off to walk or talk. They are too strong, the ones I had from more than 30 years ago fit better & I have been wearing them more than the new ones.  I've had lots of glasses since but none fit as well as those with the big old frames, but they don't do as well on the highway.  None of the doctors (or glasses) work as well as ones from the doctor that retired back in 1985.

Oh, NO, Lloyd.... another hospital stay!!! Do hope you get to go home soon.  You need a good rest to let your body heal and build up your immune system.  Prayers for you, too.

This has been an all day message so hate to see how long it will be.
Thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes.... it has been a good year and a great day!

CHUCKLES

He Who Is Without Sin

Jesus saw a crowd chasing down a woman to stone her and approached them. "What's going on here, anyway?" he asked.

"This woman was found committing adultery, and the law says we should stone her!" one of the crowd responded.

"Wait," yelled Jesus. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Suddenly, a stone was thrown from out of the sky, and knocked the woman on the side of her head.

"Aw, c'mon, Dad..." Jesus cried, "I'm trying to make a point here!"

Food For Thought

God NEVER Gives Up!
(by Max Lucado)

Throughout time, though God's people often forgot their God, God didn't forget them. He kept his word.

God didn't give up. He never gives up. When Joseph was dropped into a pit by his own brothers, God didn't give up.

When Moses said, "Here I am, send Aaron," God didn't give up.

When the delivered Israelites wanted Egyptian slavery instead of milk and honey, God didn't give up.

When Aaron was making a false god at the very moment Moses was with the true God, God didn't give up.

When only two of the ten spies thought the Creator was powerful enough to deliver the created, God didn't give up.

When Samson whispered to Delilah, when Saul roared after David, when David schemed against Uriah, God didn't give up.

When God's word lay forgotten and man's idols stood glistening, God didn't give up.

When the children of Israel were taken into captivity, God didn't give up.

He could have given up. He could have turned his back. He could have walked away from the wretched mess, but he didn't.

He didn't give up.

When he became flesh and was the victim of an assassination attempt before he was two years old, he didn't give up.

When the people from his own home town tried to push him over a cliff; he didn't give up.

When his brothers ridiculed him, he didn't give up.

When he was accused of blaspheming God by people who didn't fear God, he didn't give up.

When Peter worshiped him at the supper and cursed him at the fire, he didn't give up.

When people spat in his face, he didn't spit back. When the bystanders slapped him, he didn't slap them. When a whip ripped his sides, he didn't turn and command the awaiting angels to stuff that whip down that soldier's throat.

And when human hands fastened the divine hands to a cross with spikes, it wasn't the soldiers who held the hands of Jesus steady. It was God who held them steady. For those wounded hands were the same invisible hands that had carried the firepot and the torch two thousand years earlier. They were the same hands that had brought light into Abram's thick and dreadful darkness. They had come to do it again.

So, the next time doubt walks in, escort him out. Out to the hill. Out to Calvary. Out to the cross where, with holy blood, the hand that carried the flame wrote the promise, "God would give up his only son before he'd give up on you."

Good morning Joan, it is half past midnight here and I've just finished some PSP lessons and turned them in. A Cinnabon sounds interesting but probably wouldn't help me sleep!

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you Shirley when you arrive. I'm sorry to have missed your birthday but it sounds as if you enjoyed it even without my input!

It is minus fifteen here headed to a possible low of minus 26, but I'm warm and toasty and unfortunately wide awake.

I'm hoping that all who are healthy remain so and that all who are ailing, cease and get better, quick!

Have a great day, today.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning.  Wish me smiles because the weather isn't going to smile.  The temps are just slightly above freezing and it's supposed to rain all day.

Make today a good one!

Good morning to all.  Joan, I saved your Thought of the Day to put on my long time friend's birthday card.  We have known each other close to 50 years. I'm 10 days older than she is so every year we search all year for the funniest old lady birthday card we can find to send each other.  I bought one for her before Christmas, a sweet one this year for the first time, and the card I received from her on Sat (mailed early because of the holiday)... was also sweet, but she had typed a separate list of all the reasons we were good friends to the end... you know, that one where we will be friends until all the body parts have failed.....   I'm going to turn the other cheek with your quote.  ;)

Amy, hope the freezing rain fizzles out like ours did.  I haven't heard of any damage right here but know other areas got hit hard.  I'm sure you don't need suggestions for bad weather driving, but we actually did use my own idea one time & it worked. We slipped off the road in snow/ice and I put the beach towels kept in the trunk  under the driving tires (right over the snow/ice... and really worked, just walked right out of that muck.  Need to keep a huge trash bag to save them in to wash when you get home.  Now I carry sheets or blankets to use under those wheels & expect them to work on anything except water, if mud is thick enough it should work for that.  Faster than waiting for a tow truck (even tho I do have "auto club").  Stay safe.  I've got to go wash my little car, it is so covered with the brine they use to treat the streets that I can't get in without getting dirty.

Thanks, Patricia, kind of glad we don't have your temps right now.  Last winter we didn't have enough cold weather to get rid of some of the bugs so had a bumper crop for the summer.  Don't think we have been cold long enough to do the job yet this year.  The ice on the pool hasn't gotten thick enough for the cats to play on. They like to chase leaves that blow in on the ice & worries me when it isn't hard enough all the way around. The thought of them under the ice scares me but they are happy in their freedom, hard choice for me.

Gloria, I'm so glad your computer is working now & hope it doesn't give you any more trouble.  Sure takes the joy out of the day when we can't come here or like you do, skype the "kid"..... Also hope the new Dr keeps finding ways to make your moving parts hurt less.

I'm tempted to crawl back in bed for more zzzzzzzzzs.... my eye appointment isn't until 10:00 & is across he street from the church I go to so know how long it will take to get there.  Trouble is, I'm hungry.  I forgot to eat lunch until late afternoon and nothing sounded good when it was supper time, so I ate salad & that doesn't stick to the ribs like meat & potatoes~~ Guess I'll go fix me an egg & of course, will have 3 hungry kitties parked in front of the furnace vent below the sink so I trip over them until they get fed first.  Have a great day, Everyfriend!

Good morning, Janie, along with prayers for your sister and you, I'll add to the prayer for "comfort from worrying", think we do worry more during the dark days of winter.  Hard to keep "up" when everyone we love has problems at the same time.  :hugs:

Good Morning Everyone!

Joanie thank you for the food for the soul and tummy.  You are quite the Mom to all of us.

I have an early doctors appointment this morning.  So I better get in and shave and get to stinking pretty or he may throw me out.

Oh, June's low (weather) is passing by and will be on up to visit Callie, Shirley and Lloyd.  Hope you don't get any really bad weather out of it.  The one that just passed left some baseball size hail just North and West of us.  Or could we call that Texas sleet.  We did get two inches of rain out of it.

Good morning everyone. Woke to the beep beep of a truck backing up and then a thump. Wondered if it had snowed overnight but it was the trash truck. They sure get here early the day after a holiday to empty the trash bins. A gray day here, might have some light snow tonight. I had a call from HP last night asking if the flash drive worked. Told them I had not received it yet. Was told it was delivered Saturday. Seems like they sent it by post office and I did not check my mail Saturday. I told the woman who called I was told it would come by Fedex.  Will go down and check the mail later.

GLORIA de  we never had a dog as big as a Great Dane. Our biggest was a Collie/Shepherd mix.

JOAN  my CNA thinks she is a good cook but what she had cooked for me is not too good. When you can cook bacon and burn it that is not good. I have given her a recipe to make something and she looks at it and does it her way. Not good and even she couldn't eat it. How hard is it to make American chop suey? She used a pound of macaroni and it was too much. I told her about 1 cup of it. I have a Schwan order coming tomorrow with some dinners for 1. One I like they have is turkey with mixed veggies and even the gravy on the turkey almost tastes homemade. When it comes to put it in the microwave she will cook one of those too long. If she talked less and paid attention to what she is doing she might do better.

JANE  so sorry to read about Bethany. My prayers will be said for her.

JUNE  the governor here is not well liked. In her way of thinking only Democrats are any good. It is seldom a republican gets nominated but a couple have made it.

LLOYD  so sorry to read you are in the hospital again.  You work too much and too hard and neglect taking care of yourself. I pray you go home soon feeling much better. Past time for you to start taking life easy.

SHIRLEY  the eye doctor I had for years- I never had a problem with the glasses. Since he retired I had a problem with glasses till one day I compared the new ones with an old pair. I wear bifocals and I saw on the new ones -they check on machines now-the line was higher. I brought the old pair with me to the eye doctor I have now and showed them the difference. Since then I have had no problems.

JOAN  a Cinnabon will be so good with my coffee this morning. Like Chuckles and that last line. Thank you for all today's goodies.

PATRICIA  bing warm and comfy is a good thing to be in frigid temperatures.

AMY  hope you get home from the dentist before roads get icy.

SHIRLEY  I look forward to the day I no longer need pain pills to get me going and keep moving.

Good morning, Gloria.  Here the trash trucks always come very early.  Those HP people at least called--but apparently forgot which shipper they used.  How can you burn bacon?  I like mine so well done that it snaps apart.  Apparently nobody ever taught your CNA how to cook.

HI everyone.  It is an overcast morning but little chance of rain and we are to get into the mid-70's once again today so certainly no complaints.  Yesterday turned out to be a sort of wasted day and was feeling so tired by 11 am I went and laid down until after 2 pm.  I did go to the men's meeting since I had committed to be there.  The steak and salad were delicious and the vegetables were OK.  The program was information about the Project Warm that had been done by the men and women of the church last Friday and Saturday.  I came home and went to bed a little after 8:30.  Unfortunately I am feeling the same exhaustion again this morning.  However, I have to take Pat for the first appointment with the physical therapy group this morning and that will likely be it for today.

Phyllis, so sorry to read of the loss of your brother.  My condolences to you.

JaneS, I sure hope your grandniece is on the road to recovery by today.  A temperature of 105 is very serious.  I have said a prayer for Bethany this morning.

June, sure hope today finds you feeling much better and that you can now leave your apartment if you want to do so.

Lloyd, do all the nurses know you by first name now?  You are certainly keeping the hospital in business.  I hope this will only need to be a short stay for you.

Patricia, I wish I had the energy to go anywhere and would be happy to make you some of the muffins.  It is a no failure recipe and the Teflon muffin pans make dealing with them very easy. However, my recipe book is limited to just a few recipes at this point.  :)

Back from the dentist and just in time! I had thought if weather was good we would head on into the city . When I came out of the dentist the rain had just started so needless to say we came right home. I saw on the  news where Toronto is having problems, roads are one sheet of ice!! I am sure other areas will follow but I am so happy to home tucked in safe.
Shirley ,thank you, always welcome others ideas and use them too!
Lloyd, ok enough is enough...we need you here and Nancy needs you home. Please take better care of yourself..you have a LOT of people that depend on you here and at home!

Gloria D that is one of the dogs I would love to have, that and a greyhound.

Better go see what mischief I can get into....

Good afternoon, it is lightly raining, and on the warm side for Jan. I am now waiting for my nurse. Slept about 3 hours last night

Joan, I am spending a lot of time here, also playing games, keeps me out of trouble.

Gloria, I am having trouble  with Yahoo. It keeps asking me to change my password, I have, but I try to print the new one in the box and nothing happens. I go to NEXT and the box comes in in  red saying I must type it in, but it will not except even one letter? Computers have a mind of there own.  So now I cannot get into Yahoo mail

Amy, glad you got home before ice storm. Ice is something you cannot drive on.

Lloyd, so sorry you are back in the hospital. Prays going your way.

June, hope you keep feeling better. My stomach is almost one big bruise, where they gave me shots in it every day.

Have to go nurse is at the door.

Amy--I sure am glad you were able to get home before the roads became a sheet of ice.

Linedancer--I wish you could get more than 3 hours sleep.  At least you can use your computer and spend time playing games.  Can the nurse give you some suggestions to help you sleep better?

Joan, the nurse just left. She said tell my doctor when I see him Friday. She was very hard to understand, and with my hearing that did not help also. the first few visits were a male nurse and I could understand him.  She tool me to day, he is supervisor.

Good Morning my beloved friends. I am FREE.....I walked all three floors of hallways this morning and feel GREAT ! (just found out the words free and great can all be typed with the left hand) I found there are 25 sick people in our building,so it is keeping the employees on the run for sure.

Had an email from Gary, his Dori has arrived safely in Colorado, where she will spend a week with her dear friend who is to be married at the end of the week. My Gary has a slight chest cold...darn...

Gloria de, I hope you will get a better sleep tonight, three hours is not enough. I too am spending more time on the computer. and even watching a little t.v. which I do not enjoy. I am glad you have your dear kitty to keep you company. Did neighbors take care of her while you were hospitalized ? Your poor tummy !!!!!!! Why do they give shots in the stomach ???????

Larry, I am concerned about this exhaustion you are feeling. Your body must be telling you to slow down. You really do push yourself at times my friend, you must learn to think of yourself as well as you do of others.

Gloria, I am so glad you can have Schwan deliver food that you really like to your door. Your housekeeper doesn't do very well if she doesn't follow your personal recipe. Is she slow in mind, or just stubborn ?

Hal, YAY ! you got some rain of that low. We are to have another low come in over this weekend, so hopefully it will visit Texas as well. I am giggling over your "Texas sleet". Baseball sized hail could do a lot of damage, I sure wouldn't want to be struck by one of those.

I think I will take another stroll in the hallways. It feels SO good to be free to walk out my door.

Linedancer--Perhaps when you see your doctor on Friday,  he will tell you what you can do to get more sleep.   After I was in Rehab three or four years ago, I had to have a Visiting Nurse for a month.  The supervising nurse came a few times--it was a male.

June--I am so glad you are well enough now that you can be "sprung" from your apartment.  How nice that Dori can spend time in Colorado with her friend.

Good morning from the Interior! Well, the last time I looked at the clock, it was 2:37 and I didn't wake until after nine AM! And here everyone is into their afternoon already!

No change here, still minus 16.

Shirley, I emailed you at your yahoo address, another art tutor youtube video on how to draw a detailed eye. I hope she may find some use in these.

Larry, I'll be sorry to have missed you and will stick to my bimonthly cooking up a storm method and will just keep that freezer full! Now I certainly don't know why you couldn't have flown up here and back home a couple of times daily. It's not as if it was inconvenient or expensive or anything like that?   ::)  ;D

Gloria, I learned a handful of this and a splash of that homestyle cooking from my parents. They were both veterans of large farm families and used what I call meat and potatoes cooking. Both of my sisters took classes in Italy and France, so they both measure exactly and follow their recipes. I'm always wanting to try something else or a little extra! However it worked, we were all three accounted for good cooks and only took different routes.

Good Afternoon Everyone,  from the cold,
but very pleasant,  rocky coast of Maine.

I got a lot done today:
I got my INR checked at the Lab,  and picked up some groceries for the week,   and finally got in to see about
getting me some new dentures.

Things went very swiftly ....
I told them that I had been sick,  but they all wore face masks and gloves and told me not to worry.  The good news I got through all of the exams, including Xrays,  and impressions....
By the end of this month my top teeth will be completed.

The bottoms are to be determined at a later date,  because of the possibility of surgery   and the fact that taking Warfaren makes surgery a very troubling option.
So I may just do what I have planned on doing,  and that is only get the top dentures and wait to see how things are going for the bottom ones.

All in all I am very pleased with the facility that I chose to use
(Aspen Dental)  because they basically made me feel comfortable with no pressure,  and I really liked their service.

I am also feeling better now and hopefully the cold or what ever it was is on its way out,  for good.

Sandy

I came home from work and took care of the doggies, had some lunch, checked up on Bethany, checked up on you all and now I'm going to take a nap.  I feel exhausted with all that is going on and all the worrying.

Bethany is still in hospital and the drs. said today that the outer lining of her kidney is infected.  This seems to be what is causing her temp to spike in the morning.  This morning it 104+ and they are all concerned.  Please continue to pray for her.  We need all the prayers we can get.

Angelface--My mother was a terrible cook, and she knew it.  I taught myself to cook, and in my day, was a good cook, if I say so myself.

Sandy--Good you got started on the new dentures.  I know surgery is risky when one is on blood thinner.

Janie--Hope you can catch a few ZZZs. I certainly will continue praying for Bethany.

Sandy, our situations are not the same but about a year ago, I had a tooth removed.  I am on Eliquis, another blood thinner, and when I told the dentist about it, she called my cardiologist who told her with a tooth extraction it often was not necessary to discontinue the blood thinner but she did suggest I not take my Eliquis that morning, then resume taking it at night (I take two daily).  I had no bleeding problem.  Your surgery obviously will be different.

I had an acquaintance over for a moment while I was taking care of some small jobs in the apartment. She remarked on what I was using and said it, i.e. natural cleaners, didn't do the job like commercial ones did. I didn't say anything back, but I have been using these since I was at my mother's knee and my dad had made himself scarce. I also recently saw similar ideas at a site I enjoy called Apartment Therapy.

First, as a finishing disinfectant and as a nightly closeout, I use peroxide and white vinegar to spray my kitchen and bathroom countertops, cell phones and anything else that might need it. You do not want to mix them together as they can make breathing hard but you put the vinegar in one spray bottle and with the peroxide, just exchange the cap for a spray top, leaving it in its original bottle.

Stronger peroxide, like 20% can be used to clean and lighten older plastics and disinfect kids toys. Or spray it on bathroom mold or mildew, wait ten minutes and wipe.

First, spray with the white vinegar, wait five minutes and wipe. Then spray with the peroxide, wait the five minutes and then wipe. You use only a small amount and this kills staph germs, cold and flu germs, E Coli and 99% of any bacteria as well as most stains. The only exception to this is marble surfaces because it may stain. This doesn't have to be nightly, it can be anytime you feel a need or feel a cold coming on. And it doesn't leave behind chemicals or harmful residues as commercial products do.

And if you don't mind your house smelling like a pickle, here are some ideas using apple cider vinegar.

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/13-ways-to-clean-your-whole-home-with-apple-cider-vinegar-235579

I'm sure you know and use all of these as they have been around, like baking soda for generations. But I was surprised at how many didn't know of them or spent inordinate amounts of money on commercial products loaded with chemicals and dangerous warnings.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program!

Angelface--Thanks for the tips.  Because of my breathing, I have to be VERY careful with sprays and cleaners I use or that my housekeepers use.

Mary Ann,
Thank you for sharing that information.

My new dentists have all of my prescription information and will contact my cardiologist when and if the time comes
that I would need to have work done.

I am hoping that my new upper dentures will satisfy
my need to "smile" and show some teeth,  with out having
to go through the process to get lower dentures.

If I were a younger woman  (40's/50's etc)  I would take on the challange   and extra cost of getting the lower dentures...
but I am very pragmatic and for me now at this age,  they are not high on my need to have list.

Thanks for that information regarding "Eliquis"...

Most commercial sprays and cleaners have the same warnings and cautions that prescription medications have. Rubbing alcohol will also clean and disinfect, and the higher percentages, 70% or more does even better.

Joan, I do not know anything about cleaners used around people with breathing problems or needing to use oxygen. You would know best.

You can also use just a drop of the old blue Dawn dishwashing liquid with 8 ounces water to clean ceramic tile and no-wax/linoleum floors.  I use it as a floorboard slash baseboard  cleaner as well. I have issues with skin allergies and stress such as psoriasis, so I try to stay far, far away from industrial chemicals!

Isolation continues in my building, now that I have had permission to walk the hallways, I noted 25 different signs denoting sick people. I don't know about the other complexes as I am not allowed to leave the building. Our meals and medications are brought to our door. They are keeping the ill folks on a BRAT diet. I am tired of it already. We have a clear broth, then comes the Banana, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Plus we get a very tender slice of chicken or salmon. And sometimes mashed potatoes instead of rice, and a vegetable. plus jello, plain yogurt, or another canned fruit for dessert. I am over loaded with huge bananas, and turned down a can of Gatorade, as they push that for replacement of our electolytes. So though it is bland, it is tasty. The staff is really knocking themselves out for us. I will be so glad when this is over with and we get back to normal. I'm missing some good programs I wanted to attend, but so be it. Sounds here like I'm getting a bit crabby too. Shame on me.

I pray you have a peaceful, restful, healthful sleep my friends. Prayer to all, with Love and Hugs too. June

CHUCKLES

See the President

We were having a discussion around our supper table about getting to see the President.

Our 7 and 5 year old were suggesting that we do this on our next family night. We tried to tell them that he lives in District of Columbia which is about 4 hours away. But that didn't quiet them. They still wanted to go see him and since it is so far they now wanted it to be a family day.

Because we're short on funds we made another attempt to squelch the demands and said, "Listen, if he took the time to see everyone who wanted to see him then he would never get anything else done."

Our 7 year old slouched back in his chair and put his hands behind his head posing the way he imagined the President and said, "Well, Dad he just relaxes in his chair and the Congress does all the work for him â€" Right?”

Food For Thought

The World We Live In
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Esther 1:10-22

He sent dispatches to all parts of the kingdom . . . that every man should be ruler over his own household.
Esther 1:22
The advice of the king’s counselors is ironic. The search process would bring Esther, a Jewish woman who shows great integrity, into the most important house of the empire. She would wisely influence the two most important men in the kingdom, intervening to protect God’s people.
We like to believe that we’re competent managers of our world, especially if we find ourselves in leadership positions. Xerxes had total confidence in his counselors’ search for a new queen. They were surprisingly successful.
As the story develops, Esther impresses the king and becomes his favorite. But no one knows she is a Jew. As it turns out, following Mordecai’s advice not to reveal her nationality at first is wise (Esther 2:10, 20). Eventually Esther’s actions and words would bring triumph for the Jews. Good Persian leadership brought this woman to the right place at the right time. Or was it God’s intervention?
Laughable advice, corrupt search objectives, bad influence from inherited wealth, and threats against the faith are commonplace in our world. When we, as Christ’s disciples, stand before rulers and leaders, let us be “as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16). That’s good advice: “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord” (Proverbs 16:20).
Help us gain wisdom, Lord, that in this world we may speak and behave with integrity in every aspect of our lives. Amen

Good sunny and dry afternoon....

.....Been ages since I got my Le Creuset crock - pot out, it is now full up with chopped leeks, cauliflower florets and carrots....and it is smelling good, well it will smell better once veg has softened and I add the sachet of ready made chicken stock to flavour it...as I dont tend to add meat....It might be a bit of a pot luck stew but when it is cooked, I shan't blitz it, I do prefer my veg on the chunky side but unlike R he prefers his soups smooth....Oh well, I shall make it to my preference... : :P

Hi everyone. We have another mid-70's day ahead of us with no rain.  Pat's physical therapy appointment yesterday went well and she will have 5 more once a week appointment.  It was after noon before she was finished so we decided to have our big meal of the day while we were out.  Today we are going to go to COSTCO about the time it opens so Pat can select new frames and get her new glasses made.  I will pick up a couple of items for our son while she is at the optical department.  That will be it until this evening when I will meet Scott and Jennifer at the church for the Wednesday night dinner and they will come out and visit for awhile.

Amy, glad you missed the brunt of the ice storm.  Enjoy your sewing today.

June, glad you were able to get out and walk yesterday. Please don't worry about me as I have had these period of extreme tiredness for several years.  I also must expect more of them as my heart continues to weaken. Usually my mornings are my best as most often I sleep very well at night.  I can't imagine you ever being "crabby".  This too will pass.

Lloyd, glad you got a good nights sleep and hope you are doing better today.  A bit unusual to get good food in a hospital.  The last few times I have been in the hospital that wasn't the case.

Patricia, I am afraid I can't help you out on the cooking front and you will have to fend for yourself.  Some of the stuff I see prepared on cooking shows I wouldn't want to put in my mouth.

JaneS, I have never heard of a situation like Bethany is facing.  I hope they can get a handle on it.  She must really be miserable with such a high temp.

Amy, last night I watched a program on our PBS (public TV) about winter places to visit in Michigan.  And one place they showed was Owen Sound in Ontario.  I had pictured your home in the area south of Owen Sound - until I finally looked at a map.  You are nowhere near where I thought you were.

We had some rain yesterday, but our temperature was 33 degrees (F) and it is only 37 F now.  We have lost most of the snow we've had.  January thaw!

Good morning everyone. Raining here but in the upper 30's so not ice. This is the kind of day for sleeping, dark and dreary.

JOAN my CNA thinks she is a good cook, her problem is she never stops talking.

LARRY  glad you are smart and rest when you need it. You know your limitations. For a man who never cooked you are doing great. A few recipes you can make is great.

AMY  one son and DIL had a part greyhound and she was an escape artist. When walking her with the leash she would manage to get out of her collar and take off.

GLORIA de  I have trouble getting into my Yahoo, too at times. I do not know how many times I had to come up with a new password for it.

JUNE  glad you are no longer keeping to your home and get get out and walk and meet others again. MY CNA  is far from dumb, she just likes to talk too much. As long as I have room in my freezer I can order from Schwan because everything they have is frozen.

PATRICIA  my Mom never measured anything and was a wonderful cook and could bake the best pies. I have to measure every thing. My daughter is like my Mom. She will follow a recipe the first time and after that she does it her way and uses he hands to measure. I used to make some of the food my Mom did but now I hardly can do any cooking.

JANE  I have been thinking and praying for Bethany, too young to be that sick.

PATRICIA  I use vinegar for a lot of cleaning and disinfecting, have used it for years. Too many chemicals in cleaners and in the prepared foods we eat these days.  I will check that link later and most likely send it to my daughter, too. I also use a lot of baking soda.

JUNE  if Gatorade was all I had to drink I would die of thirst. I cannot drink it, upsets my stomach.

JOAN  love waffles so will enjoy breakfast this morning. Love Chuckles. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  continue getting better.

A good Wednesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

We had quite the snow....over 7 inches and it has been too cold for much of it to melt.

Thank you, JOAN, for all of our nice goodies you provide us with.  Everything you post is very special and appreciated.

SHIRLEY, I am sorry to say, I do not see the Birthday wishes I thought I left here for you.  Not sure what I did, but want you to know I was thinking about you and hoping you were enjoying YOUR special day.

PHYLLIS,  I, too, send my sincere condolences to you for the passing of your brother.  Sadly, I know many that are feeling like you do now, having lost all of their siblings, and being the only one left.  Special hugs to you.

JANE, I have been saying very special prayers for Brittany.  This issue she is dealing with is of course extremely serious and I sure hope they can get her infection under control.

JUNE, happy that you are feeling better and now can get out of your place and move around.  Those "bugs" sure can spread fast!  I hope Dori and Gary are enjoying their time in Colorado.  Hope Gary's cold will not hamper his ability to enjoy his visit here.  Are they in the Denver Area?

LLOYD, as sad as I am to read you are back in the hospital again....at l sat we know you are being cared for and are not out over doing it on your farm!  Take care my friend, and feel better soon.

JACKIE, I appreciated you sharing the news about Harry spending time with you.  My heart just aches for him... he seemed so unhappy and looked it too, in the pictures.  I know this has to be stressful for you.

LARRY, enjoy your time with Scott and Jennifer tonight.

We have just made all of our reservations to go to Austin and care for our grand puppy while his parents go to Australia.  From there we are going to my Bob's hometown of Panama City Beach, Florida to join Dr. Dave and Family for a week of beach fun and seeing relatives.  It will be fun for the 3 grands to see where their GrandBob grew up and where their daddy spent summers when he was growing up.  Sadly, it will be the first time that we all will see the empty lot where our cottage used to stand.  😩

I wish you all a good Wednesday.

Vanilla-Jackie--Your crockpot meal sounds yummy.  Would you put some in the hidey hole?

Larry--You are going to be fairly busy today.  Enjoy your family time tonight.

Mary Ann--We STILL haven't had any rain.

Gloria--It seems everyone but us is having rain.  Maybe you should come right out and tell your CNA you aren't a conversationalist.

halkel--Wow--those workmen sure are fast.

roley--Nice you were able to make contact with Lloyd in the hospital.

Jenny--Thanks for the nice comment.  Snow--ugh!!  How nice that you're going to be in Florida with Dave's family.

Where's our Janie?

Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening Everyfriend!  I'm home from work, had my lunch, loved up the doggies and now I'm ready for a good cup of coffee.

Today was an easier day for me since I had 2 different registers both of them express.  I don't know why it's so but I don't get as weary on the express registers as I do on the ones with the moving belt.  I see more customers on the short ones but they don't have the large orders that others have.

GOOD NEWS! Bethany is coming home today!  She can't go back to school until sometime next week but she is sufficiently on the mend that she can continue to mend at home.  She'll still be taking the strong antibiotics and she has to see the dr Friday and again Monday but "HOORAY" she's getting better!

Larry, I agree with you that her problems were unique and that's probably why it took so long to get to the source.

Sorry I didn't check in this morning.  I was running a bit late.  It sounds like everyone is on the mend and that all's well with the world.  I need eye drops and coffee so I'll leave you to your own past times.  Make it a good day!

Jane AMEN for the good news!!

I just finished off another quilt to take with me on Fri. one is a regular one and the other I think can go for a camp quilt for the kids as it is all bright colours.

Do you ever get one of those days where you just don't know what to have for supper.? I am really ashamed when I go to the freezer and see the variety in there but nothing tweeks my appetite and others would love even a scarp of food!!

Still have time to start on another quilt, maybe I can think of something tasty to have for supper??

Good morning to a cold and foggy morning as many drivers and newcomers are feeling. Presently at 10:06 AM it is 50 below with extremely dense ice fog. The eighties have returned to the Interior! Ice fog is made up of frozen particles of car emissions that hang about just like the dense fog Shirley and Jackie spoke about in England.

Farrah is at the balcony doors watching the ravens surf the wind currents and I am on the couch with that first cup of coffee and visiting you.

Janie, I am so glad to just hear Bethany is home, thanks to her strength and youth and her doctors! If you are like me, when I was on a register, the fast moving, busy ones made the time go by and you weren't as tired. It's the slow moving, boring, need to "make work" type of registers and days that really tire you out!

Larry, oh well, it was a thought. It probably wouldn't have worked out anyway as I am set in my ways the way I cook and prepare my food. Also, I'm about three thousands miles away and that would have been quite a back to back daily flight!   ;D  My two sisters are the family chefs, I'm a "meat and potatoes" cook with numerous food allergies.

I have never seen a cooking show or house hunting or "reality" show as my last TV was in 1997. I'm like my Mom and never could just sit down and watch a show and would find myself doing something else or picking up a book or magazine. When I realized I hadn't turned the television on in over a month, I got rid of it. I've tried those computer trials of Netflix or Hulu and find myself watching perhaps one show? Unfortunately, these actors have invaded the regular news or conversations so you can't help but be aware of some of the major players.

Janie, I would be worried about Bethany's fever spikes. They can do a number on the body. I hope the doctors are taking special care and I'm sure they are. It is the waiting that is so hard on families.

Lloyd, stay in the hospital and rest up a bit.

Gloria, I have a redhead's pale and very dry skin so I've learned that commercial chemicals don't really clean that well and can poison you to boot. Vinegar, rubbing alcohol and baking soda are all natural byproducts with little to no chemical processing and they clean well and without chemical odors or residues, (And no fake flowery scents!).

Jackie, your soup does sound wonderful and I bet your home smelled wonderful as well!

Janie--Glad you had an easier day at work.  Hooray--wonderful news about Bethany.  I pray she continues to heal.

Lloyd--Glad you checked in again.  Now go visit with Nancy.

Amy--I'm sure you'll come up with something tasty for supper.

Angelface--I can't even imagine what -50° would be like.  I read and "compute" but also watch TV.  Another "whatever floats your boat".

Lloyd, I am happy to read that you are enjoying your vacation in the hospital. Do take this time to examine your life, and how it is time for you to retire. You have really used or mis-used your body with hard work and accidents. Now it is time to join the rest of us in just loving life itself.

Gloria, I had a little set back in the wee hours of the morning. My leg was really giving me pain, so I had to get up and walk the floors till the time came when I could dose with some more extra strength tylenol. Then the diarrhea started again, so I am just taking it real easy today. No temperature like others have, so that is a blessing, and I guess that is why I am allowed in the hallways. And they still have me on this BRAT diet and Gatorade, and lots of water. I don't care for the gaterade either Gloria, but it does replace essentials in the body that are lost with all the bathroom trips. So, I drink it. I have had orange, lemon lime and fruit punch flavors.

Hal, I do hope you have more than one bathroom. ::)

Roley , thank you for your input on Lloyd. He is able to talk with us on the computer, but it is nice to have you here  too.

Jenny, do enjoy your trips that you and Bob will be taking. I'm so happy for you that you can do these things. The Fl. trip sound especially inviting. Enjoy ! Oh..Gary did not go to Colorado with Dori, after their two weeks in Idaho,he had to stay home and take care of his Church duties. It was more Dories friend anyway.

Gloria de, I sure wouldn't worry about the dust...it will wait for you. Better you get rested and healed. This life of leisure suits me just fine...I can sleep both night and day, and I do.

Carol, how nice that you had five days with your daughter, I just know you enjoyed every minute of her visit.

Janie girl, I'm glad you had an easier day at work, you deserve the very best of all you do. And I am SO delighted to hear that Bethany was able to go home. I'm sure she will heal much faster with her own family around her.

Just had my temperature taken and it is normal, so I'm sure I can walk the hallways again.

We are having a cloudy day with rain expected later this evening till who knows when...I just hope if happens. I love to see the rain falling and cleaning the air and everything else it touches.

June--You had a little set back, but at least you can leave your apartment.  Haven't they prescribed something stronger than Tylenol for the leg pain?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of January 15
Post by: June Drabek on January 18, 2017, 07:19:18 PM
Bis, yes, they do have something a bit stronger, but I have to call down for it. With the tylenol I can dose it myself, as it is over the counter. It is about the same strength, and like their med, it can only be taken every six hours, so I'm sure it gives the same amount of relief. I keep a written record of when I take it, so I am still fairly responsible. Thanks be to God.

I counted six people on my side of the the third floor that are ill, so it is evidently a virus easily spread. I keep our care givers in prayer..they are so needed and so encouraging in every way.

It is still very cloudy here, so I expect to see rain drops coming ere long.

No rain yet, nothing happening anywhere, and I am not missing any programs, because I found out that everything is canceled till they get this bug under control. We really are in isolation.  My friend over in D building said she went down to the first floor, she is well, and said it is like a grave yard. The tables are all bare of everything and it was very barren. Meals are delivered to all buildings..big dining room is closed.

And I hear raindrops falling...loverly......

It is very quiet in here too, so I think I will clean up, go to bed and start a new book. See you all tomorrow. God Bless you and keep you safe and well and happy. I love you. June

June, yep do have another bathroom.  But they set the new commode and will finish up tomorrow on everything.  These guys don't stop they put in a full 9 hours today.

June, sorry to hear you had a set back.  Do take it easy and let your body rest.  Those hallways will do very well without you walking them

I don't know why I am so tired tonight, didn't do anything but set on my duff and watch TV or listen to the radio.  Wife went to the movie while I babysat the workmen.  I will be gone tomorrow morning and wife is playing cards with her group.

Nite everyone, God bless and sweet dreams

I've read all the posts & sounds like everyone has life under control for the moment so I will take me to bed.  My brain is already asleep.  I fell asleep about 6:30 pm & woke up a little after 9:00.  Cats had been fed at 6:00 but they are used to coming in again so felt neglected.  Busy, busy, busy, busy day..... Naming Twins

A woman had twins and gave them up for adoption at birth. One of the twins went to a family in Egypt and was named "Amal." The other twin went to a family in Spain, and they named him "Juan."

Years later, Juan sent a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she told her husband that she wished she also had a picture of Amal.

Her husband responded, "But they are twins. If you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal."

Food For Thought

Good Citizen Mordecai
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Esther 2:17-3:6

Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate . . . .
Esther 2:19
In the days of Ruth and Esther people went to the city gate for advice, for legal decisions, for wisdom. All the worthwhile news and gossip were available there also. Mordecai spent time sitting at the king’s gate, and while he was there, he overheard plans to assassinate the king. Because he let the right people know about this plot, Mordecai saved the king’s life. Good citizen Mordecai.
At this gate Mordecai also refused to kneel to Haman, the newly elevated, second most powerful official in Persia. Haman, we learn, was a descendant of Agag, an Amalekite king, and God had declared the Amalekites his enemy long ago because they had attacked his people when they were weak and vulnerable in the desert (Exodus 17:8-16; Deuteronomy 25:19). We also know that Mordecai was from the same clan as Saul, Israel’s first king. Mordecai refused to honor God’s ancient enemy.
The apostle Peter teaches us to honor human authorities for the Lord’s sake (1 Peter 2:13-17). Servants of the Lord who live by these instructions are good citizens. But Peter also warns against God’s ancient enemy, the devil, who seeks to destroy us. Servants of God who resist the devil, along with others around the world who undergo suffering for Christ, are good citizens of the kingdom of God. And God promises that he will strengthen us and give us courage to face what lies ahead (1 Peter 5:8-10).
Strengthen me, Lord, to be a good citizen of heaven as I seek to live wisely here on earth. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The weather is supposed to be in the low to high 40s all week.  It's our winter reprieve!  I have nothing more to report this morning.  We'll see what transpires as the day evolves.  I do have two plans but they both involve trash and I'm sure that's not an interesting subject to report.  I really have no other plans for the day.  Make it a good one, my friends.

Finally a sunny morning!  So nice to see and it will make the hunting/gathering chore go more smoothly.

Gloria, because of your posts I am trying Schwan's delivery today.  I'll see if it is suited to my needs as to whether I continue or not.  My body is still able to do the cooking.....my desire to do it is not.  If I have a few easy to prepare meals in the freezer then I can always add healthy vegetables/fruit to it and feel that I am doing the right thing by David and myself and not just neglecting to fulfill one of my homemaker "duties".  Gosh, I get lazier by the day!

I hope that those of you that are ill will feel much better and that All of us will have a good day.

Good morning everyone, have not woke this early in quite awhile. Still dark out and here I am with my first cup of coffee. This I like better than waking at 8:30  or later.

HAL  when workers know what they are doing it does not take long for them to get going and do a good job. Hope they clean up after themselves when they are done.

JENNY  it is sad to see the home where you grew up gone. I remember going by where places I lived to see the house gone or the neighborhood change so much I would not want to live there anymore.

JOAN  when I pulled up the shade in the bedroom and looked out it is still misting. I have repeatedly told her I do not like all the talking she does.  I have been telling her that for more than a year but it is her personality. She knows me by now and how fussy I am about housework. She is from a big family and like most families they talk a lot.

GLORIA de  like you I cannot do much anymore and the microwave sure helps. I am lost when my computer is not working. This last time I went downstairs to try getting here on a computer in the library. 4 computers and only 1 works only cannot get  online anymore with it. Has XP on  it and you can only play games on it  now. The company that owns this building is too cheap to even get the computers in the office working right.

JANE  so happy that Bethany is going home. Prayers continue for a full recovery. I know when I was working a day keeping busy was better than a slow day, that tired me more.

LLOYD  glad you can keep in touch with us while you are in the hospital.

AMY I have a freezer full of food and some days none of it looks appetizing to me. Wish I could get my appetite back.

PATRICIA  I have used vinegar for cleaning for years. Good for keeping ants out too. My CNA has started using it at her home. Some that I have had just want to use those chemical sprays especially around the sink and counters.  I do not have any of those cleaners.

JUNE  I do not care what flavor Gatorade I have tried it has upset my tummy. Just does not agree with me.

HAL  looks like you have a crew of good workers doing that bathroom. Now let's hope they clean up good before they leave.

SHIRLEY  hope you slept good last night.

JOAN  yummy breakfast this morning. Good one about the twins. Thank you for today's goodies.

JANE  we all have trash to get rid of.

PHYLLIS  today I will have some of Schwan's chicken noodle soup. I had a delivery yesterday. At first they wanted me to order every 2 weeks and the first delivery was between 6-8 pm. I had seen the truck go by in the afternoon and called and told them I did not want evening delivery and would order when I wanted to. Now that is what I do and my delivery is between 10 am and 2 pm. Those are hours I can handle better. So far I have liked what I have ordered.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I'm glad for you that you finally have some sun.  I'll be interested in your opinion about Schwinn.

Gloria--I think your CNA is just "dense" about the talking.  Does the chicken noodle soup come in single serving size?

I am going to go stretch out on the couch.  When I was coming to my computer to check posts, I slipped on my oxygen tubing and went crashing to my knees on the tile kitchen floor.  I flipped over and sat there--knocked what little wind I have out of me.  I finally scooched over to a chair and pulled myself up.  My knees are scraped and hurting.

Hi everyone.  We will only be in the mid-60's today with no chance of rain.  The sky is clear and the sun is bright this morning.  Today will be my typical Thursday with coffee with friends, the Wisdom group at church, and then I will pick up an online grocery order from Walmart before coming home with a brief stop at Aldi's.  We did go to COSTCO yesterday and Pat picked out new glasses while I did the shopping.  Fortunately, we each were able to use the riding carts.  However, yesterday was another day where I experienced a lot of weariness and as soon as I got home I skipped lunch and laid down for about 3 hours to rest.  I did get to the Wednesday night dinner at church with Scott. My granddaughter wasn't feeling well so he took her dinner home to her in a box after we finished and then he came out and spent a couple of hours with us.

I did read in the newspaper yesterday that our little town will have a Dairy Queen open by the end of April.  It is to be on an out parcel where our closest Walmart is located.  I am delighted but realize it will be a great temptation as I do like those Dairy Queen Blizzards.

Jenny, what a nice trip you all have planned.  Are you driving on this trip so you can take your scooter?  It is sad to see where we have grown up or often visited and find it just an empty lot or a new structure on it.

JaneS, glad to see that Bethany has improved and was able to go home.  Glad you had a less tiring day at Walmart by working on the express registers.  Do the cashiers get to take turns working on them?

Lloyd, good to see your posting.  I hope your stay in the hospital won't be too long.

Patricia, several years ago I flew from Atlanta to San Francisco to attend a SeniorNet meeting and that trip convinced me to never make such a long flight again.

June, sorry to read of your setback and hope you are again feeling better today.

Hal, it sounds like you found very good workmen to do your remodeling.

Phyllis, enjoy your hunting and gathering.  It is a beautiful day to the South of you as well.

Gloria, glad you are happy with the Schwan's foods.  As I remember we were also happy with what we ordered from them.

Joan, falls are so frightening and I hope you were not hurt too badly with your fall although your knees will probably not feel good for awhile.  Sure glad you didn't break a bone.

Good morning, Joan.  Oh, I am so disappointed that I didn't get in here and see what you were offering for breakfast. I would have preferred that to what I had.  But, at least it was nourishing. LOL  I just love croissants and will be sure to check first before I decide what to have.

Phyllis, I hope you will be happy with your Schwan's order.   I have really not had anything that I didn't like.  There are some things that I like better than others, but I have mostly been pleased.

Gloria,  I have never had anyone tell me that they would like me to order every 2 weeks.  I order when I want something.  I have not gotten anything since before Christmas. I will probably order something next time.  And, my delivery man never calls me when he comes just to see if I need anything.  I usually order online and will go down to the lobby when it is about time for him to come.  They give a time-frame from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

He did leave some new order books down in the lobby and I see where they have the tilapia loins .  There are 4 nice size pieces for 10.99
You fix them frozen.  I spread both sides of the fish with mayonnaise and sprinkle different kinds of seasoning , Old Bay, dill, and whatever else I want, and wrap them in foil and bake them in my toaster oven.  They are really good.  But, then, again, I do like most any kind of fish. I also want to get some more chicken pot pies.  I like to have them on hand.  Yes, a lot of their things are high in salt, but I use them all in moderation.  I never add anymore salt to anything.

I need to get a shower and go down to get my mail, which I haven't gotten for a couple days.  I have just been so sleepy for the past 3 days. Just couldn't seem to be able to stay awake.  I would  start to read and almost fall immediately asleep.  And, I did still sleep at night.  I feel a little more awake this morning.

Hope everyone who is ailing will have a better day today.  The sun is shining today, so that should help me feel better.

Have a good day.

Joy

Oh, Joan, I am so sorry to read about your fall.  You were posting while I was writing and didn't see your message till after I finished.

I sure hope that you won't have any serious after=effects from the fall.  I have often wondered about people who have to drag that long oxygen tube around with them. I would be terrified of falling over it.  Sure hope you will be ok.

I know how scary it is when you fall.  I am so afraid of falling all the time.   I have trouble with my right foot that doesn't want to go where I want it to go.  And, I am so conscious of making sure I place that foot where it is supposed to be.  I have gotten so slow getting around.

Please be careful.

Oh My! Joanie!  I'm so sorry to hear that you fell.  I hope you don't have any leftover jars to make tomorrow a sore one.  Sometimes the jar of the fall doesn't show until  the next day.  I hope that's no so with you!

I finished less than half of one of my necessary chores and I had to rest my back a bit.  I suppose it's time to get back at it.  I'm afraid I'm just goofing off because i really don't want to do it.  I love the doggies but there was a lot hidden by the snow for a few weeks.  Now I need to deal with it.

I guess I should play Pollyanna and say "I'm glad it's outside and not inside."

Those of you who have sunshine, enjoy it!  Those of you who have rain and need it, enjoy it!  Those of you who have whatever you want, enjoy it!

Good morning, Larry.  I am going to make my comments short.  I'm not whining, but knees, right foot and right arm are hurting.

Good morning, Joy.  I've had to have oxygen for several years, and this is this first time I got tangled up in it.

Sandy--Good morning. My across the street neighbor checks on me.  If I really needed help I'd press my LifeLine.

Janie--The soreness has shown up already--hope that's all there is to it.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  When at home my tubing is hooked to a large canister which resides in my bedroom.  The only time I fill and use the hand held canister is when I am going out.

Phyllis--Don't worry about me, please.  I'll be OK.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Glad you checked in.

Good Morning,

Joan,  I'm so sorry you took a tumble over the oxygen hose and hope you don't have any after effects.

Lloyd - so glad you're being fed well and hope you get the "all clear" to go home soon.

Janie,  your "trash pickup" is probably the main reason I don't want a dog.  Do you have a long-handled "pooper scooper"?

Hal,  so happy your bathroom remodel didn't take very long.  I'd like to do something with mine but it's between my bedroom and closet and I can't wrap my mind around having to move things out and back in again.

Phyllis, Joy and Gloria,  before she retired and the kids were all gone, my son/dil used Schwann's for their family of 5. They particularly like the breakfasts and "quick fix" items.

Joy,  sometimes I get tilapia filets at the butcher counter.  On a whim, I decided to marinate one in Balsamic Vinagrette salad dressing while the oven was heating - then baked it.  Yum- O,  as Rachael Ray would say.

Oops - that reminds me:   Miss Ellen and friends went to a taping of the Rachael Ray show and it's supposed to air today.  I have the tv set to record the show but it's almost time for it to start so I think I'll watch it live.
One of her friends should be easy to spot if there's a shot panning the audience; she's dyed her hair "Crayola red"!   I know Miss Ellen, who is a natural redhead, had on her blue-framed glasses.

Away I go......

My 10 miles of tubing does get wrapped around an ankle now and then, but so far I've felt it and been able to step out of the loop.  However, my lifeline fall detector keeps telling me I did fall, even when I've been just sitting still. :-)  Guess it gets bored and wants to see some action.  No problem, though.  As long as I hear the announcement "a fall is detected" I can cancel the alarm easily.  It's embarrassing, though, when I'm in another room (bathroom, for instance) and don't hear it.  Then next thing I have three or four men at my door with the ambulance in the driveway.   :o  Good to know though, what would happen if (when?) I do fall and need their help.

Good morning.....bright and sunny here this morning.  Snow should do a good bit of melting today, but the next one is due.  Just got my car washed, (AGAIN) yesterday.  They warn you to get the stuff they spray on the roads off as soon as possible after a storm, but when they keep happening it sure seems wasteful.  Washed it last Saturday and immediately it was dirty again.

JOAN, I am sorry to read of your fall.  It can happen so easily, especially with the oxygen cord that our are dealing with.  I am so thankful you did not hit your head!  You will be sore for sure and probably a lot more than you can feel right now.  HUGS.

LARRY, I wanted to drive the car on our trip so I could take my scooter, however, just the thought of LONG drives makes me stressed out.... it should not, but it does.  I can take my scooter on the plane, but it is a bit of a issue, so won't do it this time. I am sorry that Jennifer was not able to join you last night.

JEANNE LEE, having the ability to detect a fall is very good....if you were knocked out, it would be a blessing for sure.

CALLIE, I hope you get to SEE Miss Ellen in her blue glasses.  EDIT... I see you saw her 5 times.  The show was over here by the time I read she was to be on there today... I need more advanced warning next time please!

JOY, it is nice that you can order Schwann's anytime you like and you enjoy the meals.  Even though they seem a bit pricey, if they are quality it is worth it.

JANE, I do hope Brittany continues to improve and will be able to return to her normal life soon.  What a scare that issue caused.

LLOYD, so happy to read there is no evidence of a clot in your leg.....hope you are able to go home soon.

I guess I had best get moving or it will be noon before I do.

Have a good day, EVERYFRIEND,

Jenny

Apparently, she's there again today.  I've only read a couple of Facebook hints at the reason  - but it sounds exciting.  When I find out more, I'll certainly let it be known!

EDIT:  Now I know "why" but not "when".  Miss Ellen just posted a picture of herself with Rachael Ray - having her ears pierced on tv!   She didn't know what the air date is.

Hal, you were tired last night from doing nothing. Come join me in walking the hallways, and you will feel better grin. i find it is almost essential to walk the halls, my apt. it too small to really get enough exercise, and I must keep this blood flowing to my legs so they will remain fairly useful.

Bis, I am really groaning over todays chuckles.

Janie, no plans for me either..just more hall walking. We are still in "lock down", but fortunately for me, I am pronounced well enough to walk the hall ways. For the sake of the workers here, I pray everything will soon be open again. The staff has been delivering three meals a day to about 300 residents, plus all the other work involved in caring for the sick. They are superb, just as you are at WM. Always a smile for us.

Amy, thank you dear friend. I am feeling great, and very thankful for it.

Gloria,I found that wiping all things down with vinegar was a sure way to get rid of the ants. I even had them coming through the light switch at one time. Determined little buggers.

Oh, BIS !! I am so very sorry to read of your fall. That tubing can really be a problem at times. I used to worry so much about my mom using it. They should have the tubing on a retractable gadget so there isn't so much laying around. Are you able to doctor your scraped knees…if not I would pray you get some help.

Larry, thank you, I am feeling very good today. We can't give up "hope" can we ? What seems like a "down day" turns out to be only a lull in getting better.

Oops..my lunch has been delivered so I had better go eat...

Since I live alone and don't necessarily see anyone for two or three days at a time, I thought it was well worth the extra cost to add the fall detection to my life line.  What I didn't add is the mobile, since if I'm away fron the house I'm always with someone.  I just haven't been able to figure out why the fall detector goes off when I'm not even moving.   :)

JeanneLee.  Now are you wearing the button around your neck all the time?

They do say that just the least little thing could touch against the button and that would alert them like maybe you fell.  They are suppose to call on the answer machine before they send anything out to the house.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of January 15
Post by: Jeanne Lee on January 19, 2017, 05:22:23 PM
Yes, I do wear it all the time.  No sense paying to have it if I don't wear it.   :D

They do call on the machine:  "A fall is detected.  To cancel press and hold the button".  that will continue until I press the button and then it says "Alarm cancelled" and shuts off.  If I dont press the button they call on the phone.  Then if I don't answer the phone they send the ambulance.  The false alarms so far have been when I was sitting perfectly still, either reading or watching TV.   I don't realy mind, it gives me a sense of protection.  ;)

I have a lifeline service that is active on all five floors of this building. However, since I got the service, I haven't fallen once. I did stop wearing it while I slept as it seems I turned over on it in bed. The service here has an intercom where they asked you if you need help and if they do not get a response, they come out.

The personnel was originally based in Fall River, Minnesota when I first received the lifeline, but it was soon connected to the hospital locally. Now the hospital collection of buildings and grounds has been purchased from a national company by a local collective. So, since I haven't fallen, I don't know how that will proceed other than the letter I received from them.

It is still frigid here and expected to remain so until the 24th or 25th.

Joan, I was sorry to read about your fall and hope you are feeling better soon. I can never seem to remember if it is ice or heat to use on these injuries.

Jeanne Lee--I think I will call and have "fall detected" added to my Lifeline.

Angelface--I believe you are supposed to alternate cold and hot with these injuries.

JOAN
So sorry about your fall and hope you are feeling better now. Be sure to get "fall"
I have vita call and having had two falls previously it does give me confidence to be alone.
If I press the button and they don't hear my voice, they come. My voice can be heard from other rooms or if I am in the garden. I wear it always.     Junee

Bis, since my last post I have been told I could go outside to walk, but just a short walk. I feel they don't want us doing any close associations for a while. There is always a lot of hugging going on. I do hope you get the Fall thing for your instrument.

Jeanne lee. I have Life Line and was told to wear it all the time, even in the shower. Mine has a recessed button so you have to actually get your finger in there to make it work. I too have the fall detector and it has worked beautifully. I do not have the call back advantage.Mine only works inside our buildings also, but like you, I know if I leave the property, it is with someone else

Hi, Junee dear, so good to "see" you here. I am glad your fall detector works outside as well as inside. Mine if just for inside the building. We can't be too careful as our years pile up, so I am thankful for these wondrous things.

I have been watching the Inauguration   parties almost all afternoon. Lots of encouragement from lots of people. Our new first lady seems quite withdrawn, but she may be too ladylike to be an outgoing personality. We shall see. Mrs. Truman was not very gregarious either. Eleanor Roosevelt was a real attribute to her husbands Presidency. I enjoy trying to "read" people.

Thank you for the information, Joan.

My lifeline does have the recessed button, but in twisting and turning in my sleep, it has been set off twice so I have it close by. It only works inside of my building and not outside on the grounds.

Joanie, I hope you didn't seriously injure yourself.  Kneecaps are so sensitive.  You might want to put some ice cubes on them to take some of the hurt out.

The workmen finished up about 12 noon.  The left everything spic and span and show us how everything worked in the shower, we can use it until tomorrow.  We were happy to see them leave, especially my pup.  She worried about them the whole time they were here.

Watched Trump today, boy what a crowd at the mall for him.  We definitely picked a winner this time.

I've been here at least 3 or 4 times today, read all the posts each time & sure thought I left one, but it's not here.  I did go to the Dr about my cough.. sounds like I growl before the cough.  Heard on the news that one of the symptoms is being so totally wiped out-tired.  That's what convinced me this isn't something to mess with.  It was dark by the time I got of of the office so I didn't pick up the Z-pac he prescribed, will do that tomorrow & spread my germs.   :-[   Can't be helped, but I will make an effort to wipe my cart handles after I use, not just before.

Sorry to read about your fall, Joan, hope the jolt doesn't spread all the way up your spine, can do that.  I would suggest soaking all the sore parts.... but you (& nobody else) wants to hear that again, huh?   ;)

Going to bed, God Bless Every Friend!  Shirley

CHUCKLES

Tornado

A Kansas tornado hit a farmhouse just before dawn one morning. It lifted the roof off, picked up the beds, on which the farmer and his wife slept, and set them down gently in the next county.

Suddenly the wife began to cry. "Don't be scared, Mary," her husband said. "We're not hurt."

Mary continued to cry. "I'm not scared," she responded between sobs. "I'm happy 'cause this is the first time in 14 years we've been out together."

Food For Thought

Guidance
(Author Unknown)

When I thought about the word guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person relaxes and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word guidance. When I saw "G," I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i." God, "u" and "I" dance.

God, you and I dance. This statement is what guidance means to me. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

Thought of the Day

Too often are we so preoccupied with the destination, we forget the journey.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'll be off to Wally World at 9.  And that' exactly when it's supposed to start raining again.  It's supposed to do that for the rest of the day.

I haven't heard anything about Bethany but I'm assuming that she went home and they are all busy trying to keep up with hospital type care at home.  I'm expecting a message sometime today.  If I don't hear by my break time today, I'm asking!

Make today a good one!

The Schwan's order came yesterday just as it was supposed to.  The driver left it in a huge Schwan's cold bag on my side porch.  Very convenient.  Everything looks in good order but I haven't tried any of it yet so don't know if it will suit us or not.  Of course, after ordering all that and filling up the freezer with it we decided to go out to the diner last night.   ::)  We had a lot of errands to do yesterday that involved a lot of walking so last night I was just too tired to cook.  I think we will try the beef pot pie tonight.

Sorry you are sore and hurting today, Joan.  Hope that will pass soon.

Glad you are feeling better, Lloyd.  Take it very easy when you finally get to go home.

Hi everyone on a cloudy but warm morning.  I expect to watch a lot of TV today as this is a historic day, as all inaugurations are.  The only thing I may due today is make a trip to our County Seat, about 20 miles away, to finally be able to file my Homeowner's Exemption Form.  I plan on taking the rest of the day restfully.  This is the longest down exhausted period I have probably ever had after I recovered from my first heart surgery 30 years ago.

Scott did take our Granddaughter to the ER after he left here Wednesday night afraid she might have appendicitis but they felt it was something else and so sent her home with some medicine.

Joan, sure glad you have that Lifeline and the fall feature would be valuable were you to pass out and fall or pass out because of the fall.

Callie, we have a big bag of tilapia filets we got at COSTCO last week and the marinating idea is a good one.  I hope I can remember to mention it to Pat. Did they film two Rachael Ray shows on the same day or did Miss Ellen and her friends have to go back for another show?

Hal, glad you are happy with your quick remodeling project and hope you enjoy your shower today.

Time to hit the road so I can get this task completed.  It has been pending for two years now because of the way the law here in South Carolina is written.

Good morning everyone, back to sleeping in again.Phone woke me, I am getting a delivery oinf a presrotiom. Glad she calls before she leaves the pharmacy.

JOAN  the chicken soup comes in 1 frozen container and is supposed to be 3 servings. I did have some of it yesterday and it was good. Of course the rest of it is in the fridge now and I will most likely finish it today. It is tasty but more spicy than I am used to in chicken soup. They do have some meals that are single serve.. I have had the coconut shrimp, in onne paskage but can cook as many as you want, same with the popcorn shrimp. They are coated but need cooking. I hope your knees are feeling better today. Please be careful, None of us wants you to hurt to end up in the hospital again. HUGS

LARRY  I used to love the DQ blueberry sundaes. I don't know where any are around here anymore.

JOY  I told the driver and also called Schwan to tell them I will order when I want something. I told the man this time I cannot eat all I bought in 2 weeks or maybe a month either. I only do not like anything thay have that has pasta. At first they gave me delivery time of 6-8 pm. Too late for me. I have seen the truck go by in the afternoon and told them that. Now I get delivery between 11 am -3pm works better for me. I would not be able to wait that long down in the lobby, he calls from the box in the entry and I buzz him in. I have a new book of what they have. I was looking online at all the breakfast foods they have. For me they would be more like my supper than breakfast. I did order a fish dinner this time. I know I should eat fish but I really do not like it. I do find most are salty and I do not use much salt at all.

JANE  we all need to learn to enjoy whatever the day is or what it brings.

LLOYD  glad they are feeding you good in the hospital.

CALLIE   next time I order I think I will get some of the breakfast items. Have to be careful I do not order too much because not much room in the freezer of the rotten fridges they have here. I still miss the one I left at my son's house.

Just heard on local news that some high school seniors are planning a walk out today to oppose Trump being sworn in as President. Goodness give the man a chance to prove what he can and will do.

JEANNE LEE  my lifeline is only good for here in my apartment. Even going into the hall and closing the door it will not work. There are 2 pull cords in here so really do not see where this will help.

PATRICIA  my lifeline is supplied by ny insurance and costs me nothing so I cannot complain about it.

JUNEE  so good to see you pop in this morning.

HAL  I sure hope and pray we now have a good president. Glad your bathroom is done already. Hope it works great for you now.

SHIRLEY  hope that Z pac works for you. Glad you finally broke down and went to the doctor.

JACKIE  5 hours sleep is not enough. Hope you get a good nap in the afternoons.

JOAN  I will enjoy a Danish this morning, either a lemon or cheese one. Tornado, good one. Guidance is a different way of looking at it. Another keeper.  Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  if they let you go home today you better not get out there with those machines.

AMY  if it wasn't for doctors appointments I would not be going anywhere.

PHYLLIS  my Schwan delivery comes up with a huge plastic bag. I am always here so do not need the cold bag. He always has me sign for it, too. Hope you enjoy what you bought.

LARRY  I plan to watch the inauguration later.

Good Afternoon,

Inauguration seems to be in between "events" so I'm checking in.

Larry,  I learned more about Ellen's experience in a text exchange last night.   During the audience warm-up at the taping she and her friends attended, the announcer asked if anybody had never had their ears pierced.
Ellen said she was the only one who put up her hand.
She was asked if she would be willing to have it done on the show (yes, she would) and could she come back the next week to film the segment (yes, she could).
She went back yesterday to do that but the show will be aired at some time in the future.

The show she/friends watched was aired a week after it was filmed/taped - but I don't know it that will hold for the one she's on.

I need to scoot to the grocery store before the school traffic starts.......

Hope Everyone Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Good Morning all..I just slipped in before noon. Have been watching the Inauguration all day along with any others that happen to come by my Apt. Did take time out to go down for a bandage change. During the night I had a vein leak in my lower left leg so I have a huge bruise there. With the bandage on the right leg, I look more like a mess, but the spirit remains strong and content.

I was impressed with the new Presidents address to us, particularly at the end where he brought God into his speech. HIs wife was lovely in a blue outfit.

Janie,  woke to rain and it has been nicely soaking us since. I love it. The forecast calls for strong winds this afternoon..we will accept what we get, as we have no choice.

Bis, "God leading the Dance" makes the dance so easy, and if we slip and fall, he graciously lifts us up, as He did you in your fall to your knees. It always comforts me to think of how God formed our frame before we were ever born, and when we are in pain, we can call on him to help us bear the pain of the parts that He gave us. May our loving Father heal you quickly….you are so needed by so many of us.

Phyllis, I have three pot pies, Marie Calendar, plus three big frozen dinners in the huge refrigerator down the hall from my apt. My little kitchenette has such a small fridge they would not fit. I am thankful that we have an alternate, just a few steps away.

Larry, if you are still this exhausted you have no business worrying about a Home Owners exemption that makes you go out and drive for twenty miles. You should not be driving two miles my friend, and I am scolding you !!!!!! Is Scott's daughter going to be a permanent arrangement in your lives now ? I can't thnk of a nicer place for her to finish growing up in.

Gloria, they are still bringing three meals a day to our rooms, and I found today that we do NOT have 300 residents..it is more like 150, and I heard they have an almost one to one in employees. I KNOW from personal care that the employees are all devoted Christians. Caring, loving, interested, kind people. I agree with you about the protestors to the Presidential choice. Their behavior is costing us increased expense for one thing, and their reasons for protest are not going to change anything. People are harmed, jailed, shamed, so what have they gained ?

I'm going back to the Inauguration hoo-rah…the Press is have a real ball. See you later…….

June--I am  a mess of black and blue, but they'll heal in their own time.  I've had to take some pain killers so I could walk around--can't lie on the couch until this is over.  Nice you have an alternate fridge down the hall for things that won't fit in yours.

it is almost time now for  the sun to go away for the night.

It just reminds me of how much I really hate January and February,  until the Sun starts hanging  around longer.   The good news about this time of the year?  Each day it is passing and getting further behind us!!

Good noontimes everyone! The Interior is slowly coming out of the deep freeze and it is only minus 24 instead of minus 44! I find it hard to believe that we will be warming further with eight to ten inches of snow expected next week. The reason for this is that the skies have cleared and are now a pale blue/white. In the winter, warmth comes with a cloud cover to hold the warmer air in. A clear sky signals colder weather, so we shall see.

Farrah isn't playing with her toys and follows me about each time I get up to go anywhere. She would, I think, enjoy having a buddy cat to pal around with but unfortunately that isn't allowed.

With all the political posts here from several posters, I must have missed the new political label for the Soda Shoppe?

Otherwise, we remain the same. I hope everyone, recovers from whatever ails them and those healthy, stay that way. Enjoy your day!

Point taken, Patricia.....   :-[     And about Farrah, these cats are starting to act like spring fever... and same with the Canada geese.  Geese are roaming the front yards and that doesn't happen except in spring (we aren't pleased about the mess on the driveways, either).  Cats are all "fixed" but something in the air, I guess.

I'm going to try to sleep this away.... wonder how many days it will take.

Bis, I bruise as easily as you do. I can get a bruise without even bumping anything. They can just appear. I hope yours heal up soon, they can be very painful.

Tisie, I do hope you are feeling better soon. You do so much, your body doesn't get a chance to mend.

Lloyd, best thing you can do is to do nothing…you just got out of the hospital, so give that body a chance to adjust.

I just came back from a walk, but feel I should do some more…all that t.v. watching has my eyes tired and the body slouchy, so off I go.

CHUCKLES

The Accident

My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.

"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable."

Food For Thought

A Righteous Israelite
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 2:1-16

Pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke her.
Ruth 2:16
Righteous Israelites were scarce in the time of the judges, for people generally did as they pleased. What would the ¬owner of the field where Ruth was gleaning be like? Would he be upright and honest, or would he take advantage of a poor foreign widow?
Boaz turns out to be righteous: he respects his workers and ¬acknowledges Ruth’s kindness in staying with Naomi and gleaning grain for her. Further, Boaz tells his workers to go beyond the letter of the law as stated in God’s Word; he gives willingly from his abundance without being asked to help Ruth and Naomi. Boaz also encourages Ruth to glean until the harvesting is finished. Boaz does what is right in God’s eyes.
Boaz and Ruth’s righteousness proceeds from letting God’s Word shape their lives. Righteous living is the key to a life of blessing for God’s people.
Jesus therefore tells his disciples to glean their “harvest” from among “the lost sheep of Israel” (Matthew 10:6), and Jesus himself brought his good news and healing to people outside Israel (Mark 7:24-37).
Today we, who are Gentiles like Ruth, are also temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13). May each of us also let God’s Word shape our lives.
Wherever our eyes look and our feet take us, Lord, let us be righteous neighbors by the power of your Spirit. In Jesus, Amen.

Thought of the Day

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.  So if you’re feeling uncomfortable right now, know that the change taking place in your life is a beginning, not an ending.”

~ Neale Donald Walsch

Hi everyone on a cloudy with according to what the radar shows rain on the way for today and definitely for tomorrow.  I did get to the County Courthouse yesterday morning and filed the documents needed for the Homestead Exemptions so that item is off my list of things needing to be done at this time.  The rest of the day I watched the Inaugural activities. I enjoyed watching his young son, who didn't seem to be very impressed with everything, and the littlest grandson who, at the signing of documents, was obviously very tired and wanted to go home.  The little girl also wanted to play with the pens, which I thought was cute.  I have nothing planned for today so will be able to just rest.

Gloria, Dairy Queen seemed to sort of go down hill a few years ago but now they are beginning to build new ones.  There is another one opening in a part of Augusta plus they already have one in a suburb of Augusta.  Glad you are getting your Schwan's delivery when you want it.  I wonder how many teachers were encouraging their students to walk out yesterday.

Callie, thanks for the info on Miss Ellen's appearance on the show.

June, you sure don't need another leg problem.   That was a beautiful outfit the new First Lady was wearing.  I am sure money is no object when she picks clothing.  At least for now Scott's daughter is going to be permanent but with her one never knows.  It was very easy driving yesterday as all but 8 miles of the way was on Interstate 20 and the other was like a little traveled country highway.  Like you I don't intend to give up what I need to do as long as I can do it.

Joan, I hope the pain killers are giving you moments of comfort from the soreness and pain.

Sandy, I was noting last evening that it was still daylight at around 6 pm so the daylight is lasting longer each day and most welcome.  I hope my comments about yesterday are not political but just observations about the people.

Thanks for your concern and that expressed by others.

Patricia, I sure hope you were able to stand that "heat wave" you experienced.  Your forecast sounds like winter is trying to make up for the years you didn't get much cold weather or snow.

Lloyd, glad you got home and now rest up before tackling any big jobs.

Good morning, another dark gloomy morning here,  the sun sure is taking a vacation  from this area.

JOAN  glad your fall did not result in any thing more that hurting and bruises, if could have been much worse.

CALLIE  if you ever learn when the program with Ellen getting her ears pierced let us know so we can watch.

JUNE  I liked the speech President Trump said. I just hope he can do all that. Time will tell.

SHIRLEY  I am with you. All those demonstrations are started by troublemakers.

LLOYD  glad you are home. Now take care of yourself and stop working so hard.

JOAN  point taken. Breakfast sound great this morning, both things I enjoy. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  always laundry to do. Like cooking and cleaning it will always be there.

LARRY  it was on local news that any teachers encouraging or walking out with the students would have actions taken against them. They also asked parents to discourage the kids from walking out.

Good Morning Everyone!

Sun out shining brightly this morning and will warm up to temps that are springtime.  Weather guessers say Sunday is going to be warm but very windy, with gust over 40 MPH.

Larry, I got so blasted aggravated yesterday while "trying" to watch the parade, I wanted to hear the bands and they wouldn't shut up talking.  I switched over the CSpan but the picture was lousy, no HD, just SD.  When they shut up I would switch back to the regular channel and I did enjoy the music.  I'll bet everyone was worn to a frazzle.

My twin Gr Grandson are having birthday party this morning, but I am staying home.  It is at one of the party places and I have no desire to just eat pizza and sit in a booth while they run all over the place.  I know I will NOT be missed and the gift will be there, the important thing.

Gloria, wont comment on your comments.  Go over to politics for my comments.

Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning Everyone....

Nice day today ... the weather is warm and dry and there is on HUGE GIGANTOIC  PARADE  going by out side my
Windows to the World here in the Arts District of Portland Maine.

This is the biggest parade that I have ever seen in Portland,  and I have seen some really big parades!

All is well in this world...

Lloyd--Can you get a tester at the drug store?

Larry--Good that you can just rest today.  My soreness is not as bad today.  Here they say our temp will drop 15° before tomorrow and then there's a 90% chance of rain.

Gloria--Today it is sunny here.  I know I could have broken some bones when I fell, but thank God I didn't.

halkel--Sounds like your weather is going to be the opposite of ours tomorrow.

Sandy--Nice that you can view the parade from your windows.

Good Afternoon,

If I hadn't kept reading "just one more chapter" last night, I might have gotten up much earlier this morning!

Joan,  I hope your "owies" are getting better.  Didn't realize you had injured yourself so badly until I read your more recent posts.

Sandy,  love your comments on what you see from your "window on the world"!

Lloyd,  I think any pharmacy will have testers and everything that goes with them.  Glad you're home.....now Behave Yourself!    ;D

Gloria,  I just found the schedule on-line for the Rachael shows this coming week.  Nothing was said about ear piercing.  There was also a form to fill out if you were interested in that and/or other "makeovers" used on the show.  Makes me wonder if her segment could be placed in a file - and never used.

Rather gloomy weather today - rain predicted for later on and overnight.   I hated to read about the tornado in Mississippi.  That may mean an earlier and longer tornado season for Oklahoma.  <sigh>

The envelope from my accountant containing tax information is glaring at me - probably because I keep stuffing it with 1099's and other things I'll need to fill in the blanks.  I suppose I should "lighten the load".  <double sigh>

Hope Everybody Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Dear Ones, it seems like it has been a very busy morning. Started with a wakeup call with my thyroid medication, followed by a delivered breakfast, followed later by more meds. A shower, a trip downstairs for a clean leg bandage, another trip downstairs, as I forgot to get something for constipation. Honest…after all the diarrhea we have all been treated for, I felt like a fool, asking for help for constipation. But we do what is needed.

Larry, you are correct, in doing what you are able to do when you want to do it. If we all live long enough we may not have that choice, so why quit ahead of time. What age is your Grandaughter Larry ? It would be so easy to take advantage of her father after all the years of separation. He is still the father, and must use the word "NO" when it is called for. I hope I am not sticking my nose in where it does  not belong, but you and your wife are so kind hearted, I do not want you hurt.

Hal, I would have enjoyed the parade more also if they had quit the chatter and let us hear the music. I am a Fox news fan ordinarily, but disappointed in their talking.

We are having a beautiful sun shiny day, so I think that calls for a walk outside, and a return of a book to our library. It is such a treat to have the freedom back again. We received a lovely letter of apology from the administration for an inconvenience we have had, and a thank you for our patience. Very gracious of them in my estimation, as they have gone the long mile in keeping us fed and comfortable.

Off I go to walk. See you all a bit later. June

Callie--I dread getting all the stuff together for my income taxes.  I hope we get to see the segment of the Rachel show that Miss Ellen is on.  I really did a number on myself when I got tangled up and fell.

June--The certainly take good care of you who live at Rowntree.  I am sure the staff will be glad when the current "epidemic" is over.

It has been stormy and raining in Arizona - the flowers will bloom in the desert later.  Don is listening to classical music because (and doesn't this sound strange?) with his hearing problem, the classical music is easier for him to understand.  That and his favorite songs that he played when he had the trumpet.

Jane:  I hope Bethany is feeling better now.  We do go through the self-serve part at Wally Mart but too often there is a glitch and someone has to help.  Slows us down.  :)

Amy:  I have quilt by your name so trying to think of what I was going to say.  I re-checked my blocks for a quilt and found I had mislabeled one stack so thankful to find that mistake before beginning.  It will have to be sewn on an angle beginning at top right and that will be a new thing for me.  Wish me luck.  Hoping you and hubby are doing well.

Joan:  Sorry about your fall.  That is such a scare.  Thanks for all you do here - I have a lot of thoughts about the future of this country and pray for everyone to have patience and compassion when thinking of our future.

Lloyd:  Very glad that you do not have a blood clot in your let.  Best to you!

Our daughter has taught her dog to chase away the geese - in Colorado.  The geese are beautiful but they leave droppings right on the open space walkway - the dog (Coco) scares the birds away then returns instantly for a cookie.  Bribery gets you anywhere.

Listening to an audio book from the library - a Maeve Binchy Irish tale.  Love the Irish lilt.

Joan, I know it will take a few days for your hurts to go away.  You are lucky that nothing broke.

I've been busy reading the news on the computer.  A few months ago, I bought a laptop with Windows 10 and while I don't use a lot of W-10 features, I do like their news.  Actually what I read most are Opinions.  Right now most of the opinions are about Trump, pro and con.  But they have a lot of human interest stories that always interest me.

Joan's temperature showed 81 F a few minutes ago and ours is 57 F which is unheard of for mid-January.  No sun though.

I'm trying to gather my tax info too but I'll have to print some of them out because I opted for that method - e-mail instead of snail mail.

While we've warmed up a bit, Lake Michigan is still frozen near shore.  People are walking out on the ice, too far out on the ice to suit me, but I haven't heard of any rescues taking place.

Carol--It's good that Don enjoys classical music if that's what he hears best with his hearing problem.  I've never fallen before, but now I am going to fear doing it again.

Mary Ann--I sure am very lucky that no bones were broken.  Our temperature is supposed to plummet tomorrow.

Well I am up and about a tad earlier than usual, before 5.am...

JOAN....
....all it takes is that one fall to put the frighteners on us, I know that too well, been there done that...my illness is prone to falls, touch wood, haven't had one since I spilled my bowl of porridge...My main fear is that I will go down, bang my head, and knock myself out...

I know " Witch Hazel " is an old fashioned remedy of bringing out bruises, but I guess by now, yours are already out...Hope today your body is feeling less bruised and sore...
