If you have feed store close that handles cattle feed go there and buy a bag of stock salt it is crushed fine.cheep ice melt and better than what you buy in wall mart or what ever. it is also good to have on hand if you ever make ice cream in a electric or hand freezer.

 Merry Monday!

I've been working on tax stuff.  My brain is  :crazy2:

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

June Drabek

Good Afternoon all, my day started out well. Had a good nights sleep, and free from staying home…dining rooms are open for service. Went down stairs for bandage change and happiness from the staff, the on to the accounting office to enquire about a billing from the new drug company we are ordering from. I have a Dec. bill for over two hundred dollars. I did not get satisfaction from our accounting so my dear good Gary will take on the payments for me…from my account which he is part of. Bill is not due to be paid till next month and I will see Gary this coming Wed. at Bible study. What a blessing this son is !! When I thank him for something or ask for a favor his reply is always, "No problem". My other son is the same kind person, but too distant to be of immediate help, and I think his wife takes care of all their small business. He handles my stock portfolio, and what a genius he has been there.

You all sound cheerful and happy and optimistic this morning…another blessing. As far as lighting in a storm is concerned, I keep flash lights all over the place just in case of a power failure. One large one by my night stand, one in the kitchen, one small one here by my desk, and another that is in my cart. The desk one has an odd looking battery that has gone dead, so I will have to investigate a replacement…if there is one.

Time to eat a late lunch…a nice bowl of soup for a change from the heavy meals that we have had in delivery…I am glad that is no longer necessary, but it was a needed blessing at the time.

We have had flash flood warning for our area today, but nary a drop of rain since I woke at 7 a.m.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Joan, Anchorage, four hundred miles south of the interior, lies in the same geographical and climatic zone as Oregon and Washington. It is situated on a narrow strip of below sea level land and lies between the narrow inlet off of the Gulf of Alaska and the Alaska Range.

Warm winters and cool summers are the norms with earthquakes, high winds, and storms common. The entire S. E. of Alaska is scenically beautiful, and the offshore seas and oceans are full of life. However, that land also has not only mountains and an abundance of inlets and estuaries; it also includes many volcanos which place it inside the world's "ring of fire," that punctuates the globe. Thus the many eruptions, earthquakes and many storms in the region.

That same storm, which I in my ignorance, discounted when I went to collect the laundry room monies, also took off roofs and blew small planes and watercraft off their moorings and damaged them. This was my first year living in Anchorage, and the term high winds didn't mean much to a woman from an area that knew little about winds of any sort. After four years and multiple earthquakes, winds, and storms, along with rainy summers in the low sixties, I was fervent to move back to Fairbanks!

I just read something interesting in an article about blue eyed people and that gene. Scientists discovered years ago that while the gene for brown eyes has many variations, such as hazel, the gene for blue eyes which shuts off the brown, is the only actual mutation of the eye color causing gene. It seems that six thousand to ten thousand years ago, about the time our ancestors began to populate the northern climes, a single ancestor developed that mutation. Thus all blue eyed people can trace their ancestry back to that single individual.

JoanFL

Callie--Tax stuff-- I  dread that.

June--Your sons sure take good care of you.

Angelface--Thanks for explaining some of the geography of Alaska to me.

Hal, all this marvelous technology, and we still catch the flu and the common cold.

My day turned out very well. no rain in sight for a whlle now but it is still quite cold outside..brisk winds. They said, in the olden days, "We are going to have weather, whether or not."

I had a good supper...cleaned up some left-overs, and now it is time for a last walk before bedtime. I pray you all have a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. Prayers, Hugs and Love, as always. June

angelface555

Thanks Lloyd!  :)

Hal, I saw those!

I read in Science, Inc. that the reason we can't as yet cure the common cold is that it is made up of several strains and variations that continually morph into new ones.

JaneS

I'm a little late going to bed tonight but I did have a short nap this afternoon while Kiran was on the computer.  I told her that if i fell asleep and she needed me she should wake me.

It's been raining all day and now they are saying it is going to snow all night.  It did look a little like tiny snowflakes when I took the doggies out for the last time a bit ago.  Now Im off to bed.  Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one.

Food For Thought

A Time to Speak
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 3:1-5; 4:9-10; Deuteronomy 25:5-6

Naomi said to her, “My daughter, I must find a home for you, where you will be well provided for.”
Ruth 3:1
Ruth’s decision to leave Moab has made her a wanderer, with no place to call home. She has put her time into helping Naomi by doing the tiring work of gleaning in the harvest fields of Boaz, who happens to be a relative of Naomi’s deceased husband. The time is ripe for Naomi to find a home for Ruth and put an end to her wandering.
Boaz is a guardian-redeemer, someone who can buy back Elimelek’s fields and so return prosperity to the family of Elimelek. Earlier Boaz had shown a willingness to help by instructing his workers to leave behind extra grain stalks for Ruth. Naomi, banking on Boaz as an honest and caring person, hopes he will further fulfill his obligation as a member of the extended family. Because she is childless and has no other sons for Ruth to marry, Naomi sees an opportunity in Boaz as her guardian-redeemer. Through this righteous Israelite, Ruth will not only find rest from her own wandering but also keep alive the name of her husband’s family. Naomi speaks, and Ruth follows her instructions. And Boaz does what he is called to do.
When the time was right, God sent his only Son, who willingly became our Redeemer. He made this earth his home, suffered, and died for all who believe in him, so that we might be adopted into God’s family and receive full rights as his children (Galatians 4:4-7).
Thank you, heavenly Father, for bringing us to our Redeemer to find our restful home in Christ. In his name we pray. Amen.

Good Morning everyone!

Remembering Mum's Clothesline
There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push

the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.

You have to be a "certain age" to appreciate this one....

(But you YOUNGER ones can read about "The GOOD ol' days"!!)

I can hear my mother now.....
THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES

(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)

1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.

2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.

3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes - walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.

4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.

5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbours think?

6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend, or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!

7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y'know!)

8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... clothes would "freeze-dry."

9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pegs when taking down dry clothes! Pegs left on the lines were "tacky"!

10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pegs, but shared one of the clothes pegs with

the next washed item.

11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.

12. IRONED???!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!

June Drabek

I woke up at 1a.m. for a bathroom call, and stayed up to just figure things out. Ever have one of those mornings ? Didn't solve a thing, but got some odds and ends taken care of.

I lost the paper work to my Lynx vacuum cleaner during my move, so don't know while charging if the light is supposed to blink, or if it starts blinking when fully charged. I should look it up on the computer. Lost all the paper work on my appliances. I kept it all together in one enveloped when I lived at Sunwest..and now it has evaporated into thin air. The story of my life at age 92.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Good morning, Lloyd.  I sure do remember the clothesline.

June--Good morning.  Sorry you are confused about your vacuum.  Don't the housekeepers vacuum for you?

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!

JUNE, all that "stuff" hides!  And it stays hidden until you no longer need it.  You either dispose of the item or find what you need on line and then the booklet miraculously appears just where it should have been in the first place.

We're having snow showers most of the day today but I don't think anything will lay.  The temps are to be above freezing.

I did a lot of cooking yesterday and HAL, it did smell pretty good in the house and I had quite a choice for supper.  I've got two complete dinners frozen and will freeze more after supper tonight.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning to greet my public.  This week I start my new schedule.  I'm going to be working one evening instead of all mornings.  This will give me a longer period between shifts and also a free Wednesday to go to the Farmers Market in the summer if I want to or to rest if I have to.  I hope it works the way I want it to.

I wish you all a lovely day full of whatever pleases you most.

Bis, yes our housekeepers do major vacuuming, but I had purchased this little Lynx cordless vac and I keep it just for occasional spills of the carpet. like yesterday a dropped a cookie and it crumbled a mess on the carpet,so I grabbed my lynx and went to work. I also have a dust buster, but it is not as thorough as my Lynx.

Janie, you are an early bird too. Your new work schedule sounds great, as long as you don't mind night driving. Having that Wed. off would be great. Can you revert back to your old schedule if this one is not comfortable for you ?

I am getting the yawns, so I'll crawl back into bed and see if sleep returns. See you later..........

Good morning, Phyllis.  Of course I'll celebrate peanut butter day.  I, too, miss Soultwin.

Good morning, Joan and all.

An Egg McMuffin will taste really good this morning.   Love them!

Lloyd.....  your list of "Closeline" etiquette sounds exactly like the way my mother always hung up the wet clothes.  I  can picture her now doing all those things that were listed.  Had forgotten that you had to wipe the clotheslines first before you started hanging the clothes.  We had a long yard, and she would walk "many miles"  on wash day.  A nice memory from years ago .   When I got married and hung out the wash, I wasn't quite as precise about it as she was.  She had a regular system.

Nice to see the message from Sun.  Sure hope she will come around more.

Have a good day.

Good morning, Joy.  I,  too, remember how precise my mother was about how she hung out the clothes.  I hung mine out until I got a dryer, and then that was the end of hanging wash out to dry.

I am pretty sure that the light blinks when hooked up with low battery and comes on steady when fully charged. that is the way my cordless tools work any way.
I feel pretty good today if i could get rid of this terrible cough.

Hi everyone on a beautiful, sunny 44 degree morning.  We are headed up to 65 degrees this afternoon. Pat has an appointment this morning at the sleep doctor's office for her annual evaluation and that is all that is on the schedule for today. She tried to get her new printer to print a color copy without success so I will have to work with that a little later today.  Guess I will have to read the book--Drat!!  Nothing seems simple anymore.

Joan, I had another good day yesterday and feel OK today so think that spell is over for now.

Gloria, the weather up your way doesn't sound good again for today.  I guess it is good that it isn't snow.

Lloyd, I remember my dad buying big blocks of salt for the cattle and bags of rock salt to make ice cream with and deal with ice underfoot.  Hope you are feeling better today.

Hal, I saw a report on the news last evening of the new weather satellite images and what it will do for weather forecasting.

Jackie, thanks for relaying the email info on Sun.  It is easy to understand why it would be slow and difficult to type.  It sounds like she is doing OK.  I haven't heard from Molly yet.

Joan, your humor for today is a "groaner" but it sure made me chuckle as didn't see that coming.

Lloyd, your list of clothesline procedures is exactly how it was done as I was growing up and there was lots of ironing.

June, fortunately most appliance manuals are online and often they do not even come in a printed form with the item when purchased.

JaneS, I hope you will enjoy your new shift.  Will driving home at night in the dark be a problem during the winter months?

Phyllis, yesterday was national pie day and I did celebrate at dinner last night with a piece of key lime pie that Mrs. Edwards had made for me and put in our freezer.  It was very tasty.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Watching the news about the Nor'easter and some of the damage around. Another time I am glad to be living inland away from the shore. They had it worse than here. Still raining but not as windy. Should have realised that the wind would not be howling in this corner, the winds hit the back side of this building this time. There is a light covering of snow on the grassy areas but every thing else is wet.

JOAN  it is sad when one of out group drops out with no word. Makes me wonder what happened. I know I have told my daughter if anything happens to me to get in touch here or with you to let you know about it.

GLORIA de  not as bad here as I thought it would be. Just glad it was too warm for it to be snow. I rather storms hit in the daylight so we can at least see what is going on. I have a small hassock under my desk that I put my feet up on. Get too comfortable like that at times.

PATRICIA  you must have been terrified almost getting sucked out of that building. I have been through hurricanes and that is bad enough.

LLOYD  hope you are still taking it easy.

JUNE  great that things are opening up again where you live. Must mean that whatever attacked all of you has run it's course. Like you I have flashlights handy wherever I am.

PATRICIA  my Mom had beautiful blue eyes and so did some of my siblings. I got my Dad's dark brown eyes.

HAL  will check out your link later. Looks interesting.

JACKIE  glad you heard from Sun.  It is hard typing with one hand and I did that after the carpal tunnel surgery. I got pretty good with the left hand after awhile.

JOAN  an Egg McMuffin will be great this morning. I was looking through the breakfast items in Schwans and they have something that looks like them I might order them next time. For me that would be lunch or supper. Fancy Bar, no one left out except the Thia? Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  love the Clotheslines. I sure remember those days.

JANE  I used to do a lot of cooking on week ends when I was working. I had a freezer with dinners I made and sure were appreciated.

PHYLLIS  I sure remember the days of making peanut butter cookies and my 3 waiting for them to cool enough to eat. Those were good days.

JOY  next order from Schwans I will order what looks and sounds like the Egg McMuffin.
