Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's Belgian Waffles to go with your coffee or tea.  I wish ALL a blessed day.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Fair Warning

My creative mother enjoys doing crafts, such as making potpourri boxes decorated with ribbon and lace. Sometimes she gets so involved that she disappears into her upstairs workroom for hours, forgetting about more mundane things, like making dinner.

One evening, I arrived home to find the kitchen empty again. But this time, I found a note that said, "Warning! Small craft advisory. Buy yourself a pizza!"

Food For Thought

Merciful, Noble, Obedient
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 1:16-17; 3:1-13

May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.
Ruth 2:12
Why should Ruth obey Naomi and make herself available to Boaz? Why not make her own choices? The answer is straightforward. When she refused to go back home, Ruth “clung” to Naomi (Ruth 1:14). The same verb in Hebrew is used elsewhere to describe a husband and wife being united together (see Genesis 2:25).
As in marriage, Ruth left her home willingly to join herself to another. In this case, she willingly shared Naomi’s family situation, her God, her sorrow, her emptiness. Going to the threshing floor that night was a gesture requesting marriageâ€"for the purpose of filling a part of Naomi’s emptiness: her lack of a child and heir. When Ruth said to Boaz, “Spread . . . your garment over me,” it meant, “Take me under your wing to be your wife, by the terms of God’s covenant for our related families.”
In a way, this story is like Jesus’ parable of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Both stories teach God’s people what it means to love their neighbor. When Jesus asked which ¬traveler showed the love of God to the man who needed help, the response had to be “The one who had mercy on him.”
Ruth went to the threshing floor because she was a merciful, noble person who wanted to honor God. Let us also honor God by being merciful and noble to our neighbors.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for not passing us by when we were in need of your love. Help us to respond with your love and care for our hurting neighbors. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“Instead of comparing our lot with that of those who are more fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot of the great majority of our fellow men.  It then appears that we are among the privileged.”

~ Helen Keller

Good Morning Everyfriend and a special Good Morning to you, Joanie.

I'm going to try to go to church this morning.  My back feels much better this morning.  There is still a spot that hurts but it doesn't feel nearly as bad as it did.

I'll just mark my place for later since I need to get moving and make sure the car will start.  It's been sitting there idle since
Thursday when I picked up Kiran after school.

Make it a good day, Everyfriend!

Greetings from Israel! It is sunny but cool in Netanya, having survived two days of heavy rain and gale force winds. Bubble has recovered to the extent that we were able to venture out and do a major grocery shopping this morning which took almost 3 hours to complete. But it was great getting out together. I'm still adjusting to the time difference: it's 2pm here and 7am in eastern North America.

Hi everyone.  It is one of our colder mornings as it was 37 degrees but we are headed to the mid-50's today.  There is not a cloud in the sky.  I think Pat is going to go to Sunday School with me this morning.  This will be the first time in about 8 months.  She will have to see if she can tolerate the chairs we have in the classroom.  We will then attend Church and go out to eat and that will be our day.  She did pick up her new glasses yesterday while I got a few items at COSTCO.

Joy, we have quickly become great fans of the online ordering of groceries from Walmart and then all I have to do is go and pick them up and sign for them.  My wife can put together the order sitting in her easy chair.  I have a feeling that more and more grocery stores will begin to offer this service.  Here you need purchase only $30 worth to use the service without additional charge.  You can also get items from the pharmacy and I don't know what else in the orders.

Phyllis, I remember my grandfather and father having lumbago and you never hear of that anymore.

Jackie, I have not heard of that type of burial grounds either.  When Pat and I first got married I bought a cemetery plot out in the country in the area of where I grew up.  I paid $10 for it.  I really would like to have my ashes scattered in that cemetery but that is not going to happen since we live a long way from there and so we will probably do what I wrote about yesterday.

JaneS, you are making all of us wish we lived close to a Amish store.  Those are wonderful prices.  Hope you back is feeling better today.

Don, I watched the video you posted and it sure gave me a laugh for today.

Callie, isn't Monarch of the Glen a great series with wonderful kooky characters, especially the father and his friend.

Hal, I hadn't heard about the mumps situation.

Good morning, Larry.  It's chilly, dark and gloomy here, and it's lightly sprinkling.  That's great that Pat feels up to attending Sunday School.  I hope the chairs/seats are comfy.

LARRY HANNA...
...now that is sad that you cant, or wont be, following your original plans for when you and Pat's time come to its endings.....especially that it has also been paid for...sadly these things cost a whole lot more nowadays than the monies you paid back then...but the country plot does sound ideal..

Now I need to go back on what you wrote yesterday...

JOAN...
... guess similar weather here but without your heat, rain, dark, dull and gloomy...

DON...
..that is good news that Bubble is recovered enough to get out of her home again...

Good morning everyone looks like we might have a sunny morning at least.

LARRY  my oldest grandson sold his motorcycle. 3 years ago he slid in sand and fell with the bike on one of his legs. He had surgery on it and was out of work for almost a year. He has a great boss and is a good worker so he had no problems. It still gives him problems at times. Will check those links. I get Babamail, too. Some good things in there and some days I spend hours checking out what is included.

JOY  the wind finally calmed down here yesterday. For a change it did not keep me awake last night. Like you I am lost without my computer. I ordered groceries last night online and will be delivered Monday. I picked the delivery time for when my CNA will be here.

PHYLLIS   just heard on local news that by the end of the week nights might get down into the teens. That sounds more normal for here. Tuesday and Wednesday a chance of snow flurries. Have appointments both of those days. One with pain doctor and more shots in my back. Oh if only when  in high school we knew what an aching back was I wonder if that would have been a popular saying. I hate ticks, too. When my son told me about that one I thought we really need some freezing cold weather for a few weeks.

JOAN  I sure hope Tuesday's shots will work as good.

PATRICIA  like you when air pressure changes I can feel it.

JANE  gee, maybe in heaven I can knit or crochet again? I sure miss being able to do either one.

GLORIA de  no he did not get bit by that tick. His FIL had Lyme disease from those tiny ticks. He was lucky to have a doctor treat him that had it and knew how to treat it.

JANE  wow you got some great buys at the Amish store. Those ham slices you got are a steal.

JEANNE LEE  here the white/milky clam chowder is Maine chowder. Red is Manhattan chowder and then there is the clear which is RI chowder. Best chowder used to be at the 2 amusement parks we had  in their shore dinner halls. At Rocky Point they had the best clam cakes. Small ones and cooked through. Some places make them big and the centers are never cooked. Only potatoes were in the chowder with plenty of clams.

MARY ANN  to me I never drove miles away for groceries. Not really saving anything. I was lucky to live with 2 close to each other. I would get groceries in one and the other meat and produce.

SHIRLEY  glad your family is keeping a check on you. Hope each day finds you feeling much better.

JUNE  my ex was just brought up to think he was better than anyone else. I thank God my 3 turned out as good as they have. They learned what he was like early in their lives and not by anything I said.

PHYLLIS  thanks for another graphic and love the quote.

JOAN  love Belgian waffles with strawberries and cream. Yummy. Good Chuckles. Thank you for all today's goodies.

DON  glad Bubble is feeling much better. Wow 3 hours grocery shopping. Did you buy the stores out?

My date with the snow blower is over for now....but if it doesn't stop snowing I am sure we will be waltzing again. Had to stop for a bit when VON came but both front and back are now cleaned up.
A day of rest here....may head to the sewing room .

Jane, what great bargains you got at the Amish store and you know it is all good food too!!

Gloria, my friends had a bike but when his knees started to give him trouble they made it into a trike.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the cool,  but bright and sunny rocky coast of Maine.    I believe that we have a couple more warmish days before the real February Weather begins...   And that can be  miserable ....   But soon after the short month of February,  we can start wishing for warmer spring days,   ("March winds and April showers"  and all that  stuff!)

But for today I am enjoying the bright warmth and sun shinning in my Windows to the world...

All is well here!

Good morning, being lazy, still am not dressed :o the sun was out when I got up, but it is now cloudy, but no wind.

Patricia and Joan, I like N.England clam chowder the best, but my mother made good NY clam chowder. When I was a kid, we always had a bushel of clams and oysters in the garage aso a bushel of potatoes. My mother always told me after I got married to keep potatoes in the house, in case of bad storms and we could not get out. I could always make Fire Island Starve to death. (potato soup) :)

Callie, I always keep chicken broth in the freezer, I always boil up what is left of a roast chicken with Veg. I guess that is left over in me, from growing up in the depression. The first time we had Thanksgiving  dinner with our new DIL she was throwing the turkey carcass out I ask to take it home, she was shocked.

Hal, here on Long Island they are worried about measles, as a baby was in two hospital this week, before they found out what it had.

Don, glad to read you and Bubble were able to go out, and she is feeling better.

Gloria, would you believe I have foot doctor on Tuesday and Hematologic on Wed. for a shot, and they are saying possible snow. AS I wrote I have had Lymes disease. You do not hear of Rocky Mt. fever, as much. When I worked in the Hosp. we would always have a few cases in the summer.

MaryAnn, when I was first married, the grocery (Bohacks) was on our corner. One side was the meat dept. and the other groceries . I would stand at the counter and the clerk would reach for the things I wanted, then the butcher would cut the meat to order. Generally  I would have spent $15. when I walked out. That was for the week. Of course I did have a breadman and milkman.  I almost forgot I also had and iceman.
I guess I had better end this long walk back in time.

Linedancer--Good morning.  I like potato soup--haven't had any in eons.

Gloria D, the first grocery stores I remember were as you said.  My mother made a list and we (Dad, Mother and I) went to the grocery where they got the items for us.  I'm trying to think where my folks got the meat because the grocery did not sell meat.  I seem to remember a big barrel of pickles by the door.  Eventually either Kroger or A&P opened a larger market that did include meat.  We had two drug stores nearby.  Our first grocery store was owned by a man named Cooper.  Later John Joyce bought it and Norm worked for him for a few years while in high school.  Later when the big supermarkets came, the small groceries disappeared.

Dot and I did our usual, church, then OTB.  Today we both had hamburgers, in fact, we usually have burgers but last week we split a tuna melt.

Tom has gone to Holland to see a friend, so Kendrick and I are staying here.  I am sure a nap is on the agenda.

Good morning from the Interior where I am still trying to talk myself off the couch and onward to the many chores awaiting me!

When I was young in the fifties, we had many small neighborhood groceries. We went to Lindys for our groceries which they also fetched for us; Gordons for shoes, boots, and outdoor goods and clothing, Mode 'O Day for my mom's hats, handkerchiefs and gloves, and Hazel's for lunch.

We always got dressed for town. In fact, we had an entire wardrobe of dresses, hats, and gloves for church, shopping, and visiting. There was that, then school clothes and finally play clothes. And heaven help you if you wore the wrong clothes for the wrong activity back then because "we were ladies!"  ::)

That was certainly another time and place then and of course, once we hit our teens and the sixties, it completely and radically changed.

I forgot to mention that I got up early today,    made the bed,  took shower, washed hair and got dressed for the day to wait for Kelly to come pick me up so that I could go get my new teeth today a 1:30....

The I sat down to wait and put the tv on to watch a morning show while waiting for Kelly.     At that time I realized that today was SUNDAY  and not Monday,  when I have to pick up my teeth.      .....

Oh my goodness  ....    I got all my Monday Morning chores done before I realized that it was Sunday Morning...

Angelface--I am going to my couch shortly to see if I can find a few zzz's.  Like you, we had school clothes, play clothes, church clothes and "go to town" clothes.  The church clothes and "go to town clothes" were most often one in the same.  And then we had school shoes, play shoes and church shoes.  We were lucky to have several pair since my dad owned a fine shoe store.

Sandy--Well at least you got a day ahead on your work/chore schedule.:)  Thanks for the link.

Mention of special clothes for special activities reminded me of going downtown.  We lived a mile from the bus stop so Dad would take us there.  Buses ran quite often in those days.  My mother didn't wear gloves when going downtown, but many women did.

Of course, we had our Sunday clothes for church and special things.  I wore a hat to church well into the '50s but when I realized I was one of four women wearing hats and the other three were older than I was, I quit wearing hats to church. I don't know when I got my first pair of slacks and it could have been after I started working.  I wore skirts to work most of the time except when I broke my leg but when the cast came off, I went back to skirts.  I wore heels and at the last I had a job that took me all over the building.  I thought nothing of it at the time,  and I guess I'd think nothing of it now, only a reverse thought.

Phyllis, A perfect graphic for our group, in my estimation. This is exactly what I find here in our S.S.

Larry, I well remember the term Lumbago, another was Rheumatiz. Cancer was a term that was said in a whisper, as if it were "catching"

Sandy, I'll help you look for your mind if you will help me find mine. They are floating around out there somewhere.

I have a tale of woe. I woke at two a.m. with hard leg pain, so put on my robe and slippers and went out to walk the hallways, and hopefully lose the pain out there. Coming back through the door a surprise was waiting for me. Half way through the door my cart collapsed, and me on top of it. lay there in shock for a bit, no one appeared as usual with the life line, so I poked at it several times, and then a nurse appeared, she called downstairs and here came another nurse, then a male nurse. The two girls got me back of my feet and into my recliner. The male took over the repair. Wouldn't you know…on my leg that they have been treating for two months, now has a relative just above the old wound. Fortunately the skin stayed in place, just a jagged cut in the skin which he taped in place and bandaged up. It really done me in though…too much shock I guess, so I spent the better part of the morning in bed, sleeping off and on due to the percocet they gave me for pain. Around 11 I stirred myself up and got dressed, had some coffee and a muffin. And now here. Whoopee.

June, you really don't need any more falls.  Actually, I guess it was your Rollator that caused the fall.  I imagine you will have another ache in your leg.

Being Sunday, I did go to church, but this afternoon I doubt I would have been able to tell anyone what day it was - I was just unaware of the day until I saw it on my computer.

Mary Ann, Nope I sure don't want any more falls. I have times like you described, I just can't rely on my brains any more. I look at the date in some of my prayer reading books, and have to recheck on my cell phone or the computer to make sure I have the day and date correspond. A weird feeling for sure. I try to explain to my son about my mind failures, and he reassures me that it is just a natural happening for a 92 year old human being. And it's always, "Don't worry about it Mom. It isn't that important". I had to skip Church, just too sore to do much of anything.

Gloria de…me too with the saddle shoes, and it was "the" thing that the more soiled look the shoe, the more "in" we were. About the same time in the winter we wore wool baby blanks on our heads..like a big kerchief, or as they called them in Polish, Babushka.

Hal, thank you for your good thoughts. I understand it was the door itself. It closes so quickly and so hard. It has a magnet to hold it open but you have to be sure it is secure. My son checked the door today and said I should report it as they can fix it to stay open by itself. And that is true, as I have seen some of the doors that do stay part way open and need to be manually closed. So I will take the problem to the main desk tomorrow and get it resolved.

Bis, I too hope the cut will not take as long to heal as the other one is. It is in God's hands, so what will be, will be.

Amy, thank you. I hope your winter will be a light one. You work so hard in so many things that need doing. Winter should be a time of staying inside and doing your quilting.

I went to our small dining room for supper tonight, and got really filled up, so it will be an early to bed tonight. May you all have a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers June

Food For Thought

Bread in Bethlehem
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 3:14-18

Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.
Ruth 3:17
Naomi and her family had left Bethlehem because of a famine, and she returned years later at the beginning of a harvest. Through Ruth, God had begun to alleviate Naomi’s food problems with regular visits to Boaz’s fields, but Naomi was still bereft of her husband and sons. Who would fill that emptiness?
When Ruth returned from the threshing floor, she poured out six measures of barley, telling Naomi that Boaz had said, “Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.” Naomi was ecstatic, because she recognized that with this food Boaz had put a down payment on her family’s future.
“Silver or gold I do not have,” said the apostle Peter. “But what I do have I give you.” And in Jesus’ name he told a lame man to walk, and the man was able to walkâ€"and to jump and to praise God too (Acts 3:6-10). In a similar way, Naomi was given renewed life. Ruth would bear a son. Naomi would have a family to take care of herâ€"and through that family Israel would receive a king who would bring an end to the emptiness of the time of the judges.
We too have received a down payment: “You were marked in [Christ] with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possessionâ€"to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14).
Help us, Lord, to live faithfully by your Spirit’s guidance as we look forward to the time when our redemption will be complete. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought of the Day

“The Earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship.  We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.”

~ Pope John Paul

Need to do some cleaning today as tomorrow we will be on the road....again.

Lloyd, good morning to you!!

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hope you are feeling better.

Amy--Good morning.  It's nice that you have a neighbor that will clean your chimney.  I didn't realize dogs had to have their nails clipped so often.  Hopefully your weather will be decent tomorrow when you again have to be on the road.

Good Morning Everyfriend. The temp here is 25º heading for a high of only 32 with snow predicted for tomorrow early a.m. into the time I should be heading to work.  I hope the prediction is wrong.  But I'm going to make sure the car in under roof for the night.

I slept very well last night without the assistance of any medicine.  My back seems to be at least 90% better.  However, I'm still planning to keep my chiropractor's appt. on the 6th.

JUNE, I'm so sorry to hear that you've fallen again.  Darn cart!  I hope this cut is faster to heal than the other one and I hope it doesn't hurt as much.

I hope you all have a day full of whatever pleases you most.

Good morning, Janie.  I am so glad that your back is so much better.  It's 50° presently at my house.  They say tonight we'll go down in the 30s.  Now that is darned cold for here.  Hope your vehicle continues to start with your cold temps.

Today the housekeepers come, so I'd better do a bit of picking up my messes.

I have been reminded that I haven't mentioned in here about the sad news about my daughter-in-law in Arizona.  This is the wife of my #2 son, and the grandmother of the two year old twin boys.

She was in remission for about 8 years from colon cancer, and then a couple of months ago it was discovered that she had developed pancreatic cancer, woth the liver was also involved.  She was given a choice - no chemo and six months or chemo and possibly 21/2 years.  She opted for the chemo but the results of that were so devastating that she has cancelled them.  So now she is home, with hospice in attendance, and the family prays and waits.

Any prayers you offer are, of course, very welcome.

Good morning everyone, Another gray one with 24° Just heard there will still be some light snow the next 2 days. Figures, I have appointments both days. At least I do not have a dentist appointment till April. Got those back to spring and fall.

AMY  one of the men here had a motorcycle with 3 wheels. He no longer has a car so he uses it to get around town. Hope we do not get the show you are getting. If there is a lot tomorrow I will cancel my appointment. My son will take me on Wednesday and I trust his driving. Do not know the driver I will have tomorrow and I am not a comfortable passenger with a stranger's driving.

GLORIA de  my Mom did the same with a turkey carcass. It was a case of waste not want not. Don't know if it was from the depression years or from having a big family. I really want to keep my appointment tomorrow, that is with the pain doctor. No more of the little neighborhood markets. I miss them. They would get to know their customers. Not like the big super markets now. I remember spending $15 a week for the 5 of us. My order that will be delivered today was well over $100 and that is just for me, more that a week supply though.

MARY ANN  we had a great meat market here in town but the owner was elderly and his son was not interested in the business so he finally closed up. Bakeries are another thing that have closed. Markets have all those things now.

PATRICIA  we sure never wore our school clothes out to play. Now we wear glove only on cold days, nothing fancy.

MARY ANN  if I put a pair of shoes with high heels now I would break something by falling.  I remember dancing in them, even the JitterBug. These days I would not attempt to try dancing like that.

JUNE  I am so worry you fell again. Wonder what made your rollator/cart collapse. About half the people living here have rollators and I never heard of any collapsing. I hope you do not get another infection in your leg.  Our doors shut fast, too. They can be fixed to stay open but the manager will not allow it. Says in case of fire the doors have to close that way. It is hard getting in and out. I have to back into the door to get in here.

JOAN  breakfast looks good this morning, have not had panini's in ages. Product Labels, some are really dumb aren't they? Great quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  glad you are still taking it easy. About time you think of yourself.

JANE  hopt the snow for tomorrow does not happen.

JEANNE LEE  so sad about your DIL. Prayers will be said for her.

Hi everyone.  I am getting a bit of a late start here in the discussions as didn't want to get out of bed this morning.  However, I have things in order and just waiting for Pat to get up and will quickly be able to prepare her breakfast. It is another beautiful morning with it currently being 40 degrees and headed only to 53 degrees.

Pat did go to Sunday School and Church with me yesterday and then we did eat out.  The only thing away from the house today is my Monday noon meeting and then getting the car filled with gas as the three hours of driving last week brought the gauge down alot.  The rest of the day I intend to take things slow and easy as need to recover from a busy week last week.

Jackie, we only paid $10 for the cemetery plot.  Had we continued to live in the area where we grew up it would have been feasible but not anymore.  It is a beautiful place out on a hill by itself and always very peaceful.

Gloria, I get one or two daily emails with only three items on each so don't spend much time on the Babamail site each day.

deAngel, I remember the first time we stocked up on food and spices, etc, was in Lincoln, Nebraska at a Piggly Wiggly store and we did the whole thing on $25.  At that time it seemed like a lot of money and we had several sacks of things when we left the store.   We never lived where we had a milkman (we were our own on the dairy farm as I grew up) nor a breadman.  I only vaguely remember the old ice boxes as the REA came in with electricity when I was probably six years old and then we had an electric refrigerator.

Mary Ann, you brought back a memory of my youth about the merchandise in the stores being behind counters and a clerk got the item off the shelf for you.

June, what a shocking turn of events and another wound to deal with on the same leg.  I wonder why your cart gave way but now see it was the door that caused the problem.

Gloria, we have some very delicious soup made from pat boiling the chicken bones from the baked chickens we get at COSTCO.

Jeanne Lee, of course you and your DIL and Son's family have my prayers.  It is a difficult time for all of you to go through but Hospice is a wonderful organization and they will make her as comfortable as they possibly can.

I didn't want to get up this morning either, Larry.  It was so nice and cozy under my quilt.

June, I'm so sorry that you had the accident with the cart/door.  I am crossing my fingers that this cut will heal more quickly than the last leg wound has.  But, since the nurse treated it very quickly it might not become infected and will close up much quicker.

Laundry is in and I am headed to the kitchen to do some puttering around.  As Callie says, CUL8r.   :hello:

Good morning, Gloria.  I hope the weather cooperates tomorrow so you can get out for your shot.  IK really enjoy panini's.

Lloyd--I never happened to hear that about asparagus.

Hi Janie and Amy.

Larry--Good morning.  Great that Pat made it through Sunday School and Church yesterday.  I never let me gas gauge get below 1/2.

Good morning, Phyllis.  What are you cooking today?

June, don't worry about memory losses, we all have them.  After all, think of all of the knowledge you have acquired in all those years.  There's only room for so much and something has to go.

Jeanne Lee, I'm sorry about your DIL.  One thing I know about pancreatic cancer is it is rapid, no hanging on like so many others.  Norm's former MIL had it and it was almost three months from the day of diagnosis that she died.

It was 14 degrees at 10:30 pm when I went to bed last night.  I forgot to look this morning, but it is about 21+ now at 11:20 am.  I got up late this morning and I still am not dressed.  I've had part of the breakfast Tom brings me from Mc D's and I'd better finish it for lunch.

Good Monday Morning - unfortunately, not so "merry" for several....

Lloyd,  good idea to be a couch potato until your cough goes away.   Several of my friends have been dealing with that respiratory "bug" and it seems to hang around for a very long time.

Jeanne Lee,  prayers for your dil.  I agree that Hospice provides wonderful care for the patient and the patient's family.

June,  prayers for you, also, dear friend.  I am so sorry you have another "owie".

Janie,  glad you were able to sleep well and hoping your back is "all better" very soon.

Larry,  haven't heard "Piggly Wiggly" in a long time.  My husband worked at a Piggly Wiggly when we were first married. He was finishing his college degree after a stint in the Army.

(I was teaching.  We used to say that wives who worked while their husbands went to school earned their "M.R.S. degree".)

Mary Ann, when I was very young, I often went to the small locally owned grocery store with my Mother.  When she agreed that I could have a treat, the owners would let me go behind the counter to weigh, measure and bag a small amount of candy.  I felt SO important!

Sunny and warmer in central Oklahoma.  Hope it's a Good Day for Everyfriend Everywhere.

Callie--There seems to be lots of respiratory illness going around here, too.

Joan, I baked a plain sweet bread.  Sort of like what we used to call a batter bread.  A new recipe from a friend and it was good.  I think it will be even better if it is browned under the broiler and with some butter and honey on top.  Makes a handy and relatively inexpensive snack to have with a cup of tea or for breakfast if I am not in the mood for my usual oatmeal.

Good Morning all, I can't seem to wake up today. My eyes and mind want to close and sleep, but I won't let them. Had my leg re-bandaged, vitals taken, pills delivered..some of them..I take so many they bring them up to me six times a day, starting at 6 a.m. ending at 9 p.m.

Bis, I had to look up Panini..sounds good, and hearty. I had a banana, and a container of Ensure, and plenty of coffee, of course.

Lloyd, you are finally getting wise..letting that body rule what you do, and I hope you continue to rest till you are really well enough to do the necessary tasks. Too often you are out there working too hard while you body  is really not healed. Be a wise man now and continue healing as you should.

Janie, thank you for your kind thoughts. I am staying home today to see the manner in which they will release the tension in the door closing.

Jeanne lee, I am truly sorry to hear of your DIL's severe illness. From what I have heard and read, the chemo treatments are pretty awful. I knew a man where I lived before that was having them. Hospice will surely keep her in comfort, they are Earth Angels from what I have been told about their care for the patient.I am praying that she will get all the love and reassurance from her care-taker, and that the family will be strong in accepting what is necessary. God be with all of you.

Gloria, I did not open my door far enough for the magnet to hold it open. but my cart was halfway thru, when the door came back and hit the cart, causing it to collapse, with me on top of it..the result of all the cuts, scratches and bruises that followed. If they do not fix it as needed, I will follow what you do and try backing in.

Phyllis, thank you for your kind words. It is the bad arteries that cause the slow healing, and nothing can change that, so I am learning to be patient, and accept what cannot be healed.Every day is a gift, for sure..it took me a life time to fully realize that.

Hi, Hal, the prayers of others sure do help. Thank you my dear friend.

Callie, I thank you dear one. I am more fortunate than many others..just have to learn to be more cautious and not go plowing around like a bull in a china shop. Nice memories for you about the candy shop. We grew up in a beautiful era.

My eyes keep wanting to close, so since I am staying at home today, I may as well enjoy a nap. See you later. June :-*

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

I have been keeping up but not posting.....sorry to say.  Each time I plan to post, even start one then just never get it done!  Please know that it isn't that I do not care...because I do.. I jot down info that you have shared and make notes for prayer list.

SANDY, so happy to see your new avatar with that nice smile on your face.  Congrats on getting your new top dentures done.  I hope they fit you well and will make you comfortable for a good long time.

JEANNE LEE, I am so sad to read the news that you have shared with us about your DIL.  My thoughts and prayers for the entire family.  Just such devastating news.  I am so very sorry.  As you may remember just in the past year my DIL finished her chemo treatment for colon cancer, and as you well know it is a very hard thing to endure.  Forever life changes when someone you know/love has cancer.... we worry and pray that it won't return, but sadly, many times it does.  Hugs for you.

JUNE, like everyone else, I am sorry to read about your mishap over night.  Things like what happened to you happen so fast....it is easy to see why, but it is too late for THIS time.  I just hope this wound will not cause  the problems as badly as the last one did.  I know you are as careful as you can be....we all learn that we have to be!

ANGELFACE, I always enjoy reading the information that you share with us and thank you for taking the time to fill us in.  I had to chuckle at your commenting on Mode O Day.  I remember that store so well and have not thought about it in years.  Sure happy Farrah is doing so well and you and she are so happy with your life together.

LARRY, very pleased to read that Pat was able to go to Church and Sunday School with you.   My goodness, I had no idea it was 8 month since she was last there.  I am sorry that Jennifer has been under the weather...hope she is feeling much better by now.

JACKIE, thank you for taking the time to share the issues that you have to deal with as your MS progresses.  I personally do not know anyone other than you with this terrible debilitating disease, so it is eye opening what you are going through.  As you know, I am sorry you are in this situation and I do keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

PHYLLIS, you are sure ambious making a nice loaf of bread.  I keep seeing recipes and I copy them but just never seem to get around to getting it done!  I wish I had a better excuse other than just being too lazy to take on the task!  Enjoy.

Nice to see a post from you, ANNEA.  I just saw your question about an address for Ginger.  If you do find one and have contact with her please let us know.  I heard she had moved, and someone mentioned she was very confused the last time they saw her around Christmas, I believe it was.  Good luck in contacting her.

JOAN, as always I enjoy your daily offerings for us, and I thank you.  I hope by now your soreness and bruises are not bothering you as much.  These falls are just not a good thing...  when my dear late mom was moving around with the oxygen cord from her concentrator she always had to be so aware of it.  My sis-in-law is on oxygen from a concentrator and she has had a couple of nasty spills by tripping.  They really can be a hazard.

JANE, you are one active lady....  I know you have to be with all that is required of you!  I have to chuckle quite often when I read what all you are up to.  Just happy you are feeling better.  I have not seen an update about your brother...hope I did not miss one.  I know you were going to call as you had not heard from them.  The Amish Store sounds so interesting.  Love reading other's memories about little ma and pop grocery stores, etc.  Things are much easier now days.....or so they seem, but those Day were REALLY very good.

BIG delay.... I must post this before it is lost.

SHIRLEY, I do hope you are feeling much better also....take care.

Jenny

June--That was an unfortunate accident you had.  I hope they get the door so it operates properly.

Sandy--Your new smile is looking good.

Angelface--Chores?  Is that like work?:)

Denver--I've been wondering where you were.  That tubing from a tank or a concentrator is hazardous.  I am still sore, but not nearly as bad as last week.

My neighbor just called with the best news .... she lurks here but since last Thanksgiving has been dealing with a health nighmare.  I won't go into detail but as of today, she is cancer free..... it is in remission!!!  I am so thrilled for her and the good news I just had to share with y'all. Congratulations, Sylvia!  It is a wonderful moment!

Jeanne Lee, I am so sorry to read about your daughter-in-law.... My sincere sympathy and prayers for the whole family, nobody deals with this alone, the pain for the family lasts long after.

June, I am shocked they don't have a better method to hold those doors, having been squashed between doors more than once it easy to see how it could happen with a rollator.  Next time you give that door a dirty look and tell it to ... "make room for my Guardian Angel following!"

We broke a record with 73° today.  Winter returns with colder temps every day the rest of the week.

I better go check on cats, they are not appreciating the lack of routine lately and I do feel guilty, they are at my mercy, poor babies.  They always have dry food and water but not the care they are accustomed to expect.

Jeanne Lee,so sorry to read about your DIL, prays for her and family.

Joan, I have not heard from Ginger in a few months, she use to email me at lest once a week.

Sandy, just a beautiful smile

Jenny and Shirley, good to see you posting.

June prays going your way, that your wounds are not bad.

The doors here do not have knobs but handles and are always locked. To place something that interferes with that lock is both against safety regulations and a lease violation. The first time elicits a warning, and the second will get you a $25.00 charge added to your rent or before if you have it. The third time it is simply Bye! During a fire or security alarm, the doors between the elevators and both hallway wings also automatically close and lock.

We also do not have keys but an item similar to that which opens your car door. You hold it up to your apartment door, the laundry room door, or the mailroom, altho there is always someone in the mailroom or the security area of the mailroom if needed. Management, security, and maintenance have ones that open all the sectors. It acts by sending an electronic signal to the door you're trying to open.

The main entrance has two locks, the main opening has a button the regulars and public may operate, but inside the vestibule, is a computer system that the public can use to call an apartment to have them electronically open the door from inside their apartment. Then they meet a security officer, in the lobby.

Also, all the public areas have monitored cameras and security does afternoon and evening hallway patrols. This redo,  done in 2005 was due to a couple of incidences in the company's Anchorage buildings and even if you are "buzzed in" the security officer will meet you asking who you are going to see.

Since I have lived in complexes where brass knuckles were found on the lobby floor and drunks sleeping in the vestibules. As well as homeowners renting to students and never locking their outside doors, I find all of this reassuring. The doors do not rapidly close, but you can stop them by inserting one of the building's or your cart between.

Joan lets not look at it as chores....but as reassurance that you will be comfortable and not prone to germs. Will that work.....everyone sometimes needs reassurances ::)

Jenny, thank you for your good thoughts. I just have to learn to slow down and be more cautious.

Bis, I just got a notice in my mailbox today that there will be Construction in our building till Feb. 6, so I am not expecting a lot attention to my door till then. Also had to report the stopper in my bathroom sink is on the fritz. I called today to enquire about the door, and was told I am on the list for repairs, so I wait till they reach my name I guess. I will not complain, as we have so much here that is so good, and the construction they are doing may be more important work.

Tisie, our Thank you to God has been said for Sylvia's remission. It truly is a wonderful happening, and I am thankful for her and for you too.

Gloria de, I thank you for your prayers my dear one. I have not seen the wound itself since it happens. The original method of hold the skin together is done with a porous tape that they can medicate without removing the tape, then it is re-bandaged with gauze so it does get some oxygen. I am very fortunate in receiving such good care without having to be transported to a doctor and sit in a waiting room. God is so gracious.

Patricia, we are in a fenced four acres which is locked down at sunset and during the daylight anyone entering the building itself must register at the front desk, so we are as safe as possible in this world. We have keys that fit our doorknob, all are keyed differently, but all the staff has a magic key to enter when needed. When I was more or less bed-ridden at one time I left my door unlocked at all times and felt very safe. I will be getting a couple pills delivered in about an hour, and again at nine o'clock, and then I will lock up for the night.

I had a huge supper downstairs tonight..braised short ribs with a marsala wine sauce, noodles and southern fried greens, with a nice chocolate frosted dessert, so I will soon be tucked into bed, stuffed and content.

May you all have a peaceful night and a happy healthful tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June

GLORIAde, I forgot to comment to you that it sure is good that you have neighbors that check in AND take such good care of you.  Nice too that you have the long hall so Taffy can get her exercise. Glad that you are feeling better.

GLORIA, I have to ask, what is the difference between New York, New Jersey, etc. clam chowder? They all are milk based but have different ingredients?  With a son moving to the Boston area, I will hopefully be able to expierence some of that yummy sea food you all have there on the East Coast.  I guess Regina is getting a bit of different weather to expierence since moving to the Williams area of AZ, right?  Flagstaff has really had the snow this year, and of course the valley has had way more than their share of rain.  I hope they are enjoying their retirement.

SHIRLEY, I bet those kitties are a bit bent out of shape that you might not be spoiling them exactly in the fashion they are used to!  Hope you are feeling much better.  So good to read the good news about Sylvia....just wonderful.

Oh, JUNE. Your dinner does sound yummy. Love, hugs and prayers to you, too, dear friend.

Guess that is all for tonight.  Sleep well.

Jenny

Sleep well, EVERYFRIEND.

CHUCKLES

Hair Color

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

Food For Thought

The Emperor's Seed
(Author Unknown)

Once there was an emperor in the Far East who was growing old and knew it was coming time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or one of his own children, he decided to do something different.

He called all the young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, "It has come time for me to step down and to choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you." The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. "I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One seed. It is a very special seed. I want you to go home, plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring to me, and the one I choose will be the next emperor of the kingdom!"

There was one boy named Ling who was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the whole story. She helped him get a pot and some planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown.

After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept going home and checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by. Still nothing.

By now others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by, still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed! Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn't say anything to his friends, however. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she encouraged him to go, and to take his pot, and to be honest about what happened. Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace.

When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by all the other youths. They were beautiful, in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kids laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, "Hey nice try."

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!"

All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified. "The emperor knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!"

When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name. "My name is Ling," he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!" Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?

Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

"A good name is to be more desired than great riches."

Amy--Good morning.  Yikes!!  It sure is cold there.  Safe travel to and from your husband's eye appointment.

Good morning everyone, woke later than I wanted so this will be short.

LARRY  you never check out where the Baba mail shows all the different things when you click on one of the items in the email? There are so many to check on I do get lost  in checking many out. I only get 2 emails from there every day.

JOAN  just heard that by tomorrow morning we could have 4 inches of snow.  Tomorrow I have a 10am appointment and my son will take me to that one.

SANDY  beautiful smile.

JUNE  in a lot of places I have learned to go through doors backwards with my rollator.

SHIRLEY  glad your neighbor, Sylvia had such good news. About time the cats realize they are not the boss.

GLORIA de  I am thinking of cancelling tomorrow's appointment but have waited several months for it.

PATRICIA  we have fobs to get into the building and a key for the back door. We have keys to our apartments and that is all. Isame here about the elevator and hall doors, they will automatically close and lock. On the ground floor all those doors will close and lock.

JENNY  here in New England white chowder is Maine, Red chowder is manhattan /New York and clear (no tomatoes and no milk) chowder is Rhode Island chowder. Ingredients are all the same. My daughter still remembers winters here but it is a real change for my SIL. He is adapting good though.

JOAN  a lemeon DD is just what I need this  morning. Love Food for Thought. Honesty is still the best.Your quote goes with it. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  right now we have bright sunshine. Hard to believe is just a few hours it will be snowing. This area according to the weather report can get 5 inches of it.

AMY  safe travels.

Time to get my shower and get dressed. I am looking forward to another shot in my back. Hope it works as good as the last one did.

Good morning everyone!

Well it is plenty cool here this morning, actually cold outside.

Janie, better look again at Amy's temp, she is minus you are plus.  In her part of the world you would freeze a little quicker. ;D

Joanie, wonder if we sent your food for thought to some of our politicians they would get the point?

I have got to get with the program and start some of my actual taxes.  Need to print out some of my 1099's.  I still waiting on one tail end charlie, always late, every year and it is one of those that don't amount to a hill of beans but if I left it out old Uncle Sam would be all over me.

Any old how, I hope everyone is doing fine, Gloria hope you don't have any problems getting to your appointment.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful and sunny 44 degree morning.  We will likely get to 70 degrees this afternoon.  We noticed the first tulip tree bloomed out yesterday.  We have had such a mild winter that I guess the plants think it is Spring again. I have a light schedule for today. Between 10 and 11 am today I have to get to Walmart downtown to pick up a grocery order.  I also need to go to the other Walmart that is close to us here to pick up a prescription and get a birthday card for my sister's 73rd birthday next Monday.  After that I plan on a quiet day but can always find something to do.

Phyllis, I used to arise so easily but am finding now that I have trouble getting going.

Callie, I just looked up Piggly Wiggly and see they have 750 stores now in 18 States.  What a nice memory from childhood in getting to bag your own candy.

June, backing into your apartment sounds like a good idea.  Aren't you glad you decided to have the nursing staff attend to your medicines as having  to remember to take something six times a day would be quite a burden especially if you are tired or not feeling up to par.

Jenny, Pat had gone to the Church service 4 or 5 times but not Sunday School.  I would go to Sunday School and then come home and get her for the Church service.

Shirley, cancer remission is certainly something to celebrate.

I must leave to pick up the groceries.  I will have to come back and finish reading the postings when I get back.

Good morning, Larry.  Your weather is about like ours.  When you go to Walmart to get the groceries you ordered, do the load them in the car for you?  I just looked up Piggly Wiggly, too.  There are only three in FL and they are in the very northwestern part of the state.

I have a friend coming for lunch, so I need to start preparations.  I am slow.

Goodmorning???! It is snowing.

Joan, I will also have one of those lemon DD, thanks. The joke was cute about the white hair, as I am all white also.

Gloria, I might have to canelle my doctors appointment, as I wrote it is snowing,  the women who is driving me is only 10 years younger then me.  The funny thing is I had a 11AM appointment and she changed it to 1:15. If I had kept the 11, we would be on our way home by now.

Last night my neighbor brought over lentil  soup, while it was hot, it tasted so good, as I was having chills.  Have enough for dinner to day.

Larry, I am so glad to read that Pat was able to get out to both services and have dinner out.

June take care, thinking about you. I know what bad circulation can do to the legs.

Jane and Amy be so careful driving in the snow.

Patricia, good system of security in your building.  Stacey had something similar but not quite as sophisticated and a visitor had to sign in at the security desk.

Gloria, I will sometimes click on the link for one or more of the featured items but don't go beyond that.  I am sure I miss a lot of good stuff.

Hal, you sounds like me in having to wait for one 1099 that relates to some Government Housing Bonds.  I am sure I could probably figure it up from the statements I have and the website but always wait to be sure I have the document in hand.

Joan, yes the person at Walmart brings out the items, most of which will be in separate bags and places them in the truck or back seat or where ever you want them to go.  You then just use your finger to sign on a little screen and be on your way.  You don't have to get out of your car if you don't want to.  Pat said as she prepared the last order that it is just too easy.  There was one item they were out of and the young man told me which one.  I was able to get it at the other Walmart to went to last for the prescriptions.  I hope the shopping is done for awhile.

Good morning, we are still warming up, but the snowing has stopped. Farrah is now staying in the bedroom again. I purchased a new pillow, and she discovered it soon after. So she isn't staying under the bed but upon it.

Gloria thank you for reminding me of the right word. I couldn't remember key fobs. Larry, something happened in one of their Anchorage buildings that caused them to rewire all of their buildings, and the fobs are so handy, especially if your arms are full!

We have that home ordering here for Fred Meyers and Safeway, but it is expensive and not worth it for small singles ordering. Walmart doesn't offer it except for bush orders.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND.

JOAN, I see there is a Piggly Wiggly in Fairhope near your family.  I knew there were a few in the Panama City area of Florida.  I am not sure if they were ever out west....just do not remember.  I have been reading about the start of P W stores and it is quite interesting.  Amazing what all one can find out with just on click of a key stroke.

GLORIA de....sorry you might have to cancel your appointment....sure would have been nice if it had been at 11 and you had been and back home.  Lentil soup....yumm!

GLORIA, I sure hope you do not have to cancel your appointment...I, too, hope the shot will do good for you like the last one did.  Thx for the explanation about the chowders.

JACKIE, we are still at home.....will still be going but things are a bit confusing right at the molment.  Seems when we have too many options it muddies the water and I don't deal well with it!  Hubby does not want to be gone as long as I thought we were going for, so we are on hold!

I am off to get something accomplished.  ENJOY this last day of January!

Hi Jenny!  Nice to see your post - now one of your sons will move to Boston?  Which one?  The boys sure keep moving.  --- you would like today in AZ.

Amy:  I have to bring the quilt home in May because I cannot figure it out for sewing without putting in on a flannel cloth on my wall at home.  Here, there is no room.  Unless, company stops coming.  Thinking of you and your hubby.  Relax and take a deep breath whenever possible.

I hope everyone who is ailing will recover quickly.  The new flu sounds terrible and we are all wondering where that bug began.  There are now cases of tuberculosis in the US which has not been seen in years.

Don bought the ALEXA and we do enjoy listening to music on demand.  ALEXA is always listening though - spooky.  So, we unplug it at times.  It plays radio stations we listen to from afar and song selections - for instance, I can listen to John Denver, Il Divo, classical or ABBA and it will play until you tell it to stop.  There is no monthly fee for that gadget so that is a plus.

A few quick notes, we had a Piggly Wiggly in Fairbanks for most of the fifties and sixties.

My neighbor has Alexa and tends to turn it off because she says it interrupts when she is talking on the landline or to her parrot. The parrot talks to Alexa all the time and the device minds the parrot!  ;D

After all that snow we had here, there is only three inches now on the ground.

I have had my busiest day since I was in the care facility. First I had to go down for fresh bandage on my leg, then went to hear one of our Missionaries speak about his upcoming trip to Africa. He has been there before and showed some movies about what they do. I liked to hear that they daily feed hard boiled eggs to the children. One egg daily gives them the extra nutrition they need. They eat mostly starchy things. then on to lunch, then to the Food program I belong too, then directly to our balance and mobility class. Now I am through for the day,and glad for it. I feel like getting into my sleeping clothes and just sack out,but I may decide to go down for a light supper, or maybe not. Home has a lovely flavor about it.

We had another nice sunny day. High of 74, and down to 47 during the night. What a great life it is !!!!!!

Hello Everyone,  I'm afraid I've been a couch potato most of the the day...or maybe part of the day I was a recliner radish.   I alternated between the two.  I did get to work.  The snow wasn't as bad as they thought it was going to be.  My neighbor across the street came and shoveled my driveway while I was gone.  Nice to come home to a clean driveway.

I'm going to go to bed early tonight because I have to be up and attem early tomorrow.  The guy is coming to take down a tree that has to go before it goes on it's own and I have to be dressed and ready for work before he gets here.  I don't go to work until 3 tomorrow but that's about when he expects to finish.  And I don't want to have to be in the shower while he's out there and have him finish early.  So...

I will bid you all a pleasant Good Night and may God bless us, every one.

Twin Beds

An older couple was asking for a room with a king, queen or double bed. The clerk apologized and said that the only rooms available had twin beds.

Disappointed, the man remarked, "I don't know. We've been sharing the same bed for 44 years."

"Could you possibly put them close together?" the wife asked.

Several people nearby smiled, and someone commented, "How romantic."

Then the woman finished her request with, "Because if he snores, I want him close enough to be able to punch him."

Food For Thought

No Plunder in Persia
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Esther 9:1-17

But they did not lay their hands on the plunder.
Esther 9:10, 15, 16
One of war’s tragic consequences in times past was that the victors plundered their enemies. This enriched some generals and the war industry; it also helped to pay soldiers, provide food and drink, and build weapons of war. Most of all, however, despoiling the enemy bled their economy dry and reduced their community to servitude.
But the Jews in Persia did not plunder the enemies who tried to destroy them. No one could stand against the Jews, in part because fear of Mordecai moved many government administrators to help them. The Jews’ main goal was relief from their enemies, not plunder.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the ¬forces of evil in the spiritual realms. Christians take up the armor that God has decreed for them, as described in Ephesians 6:10-18. Christians are also urged to let God’s Word judge “the thoughts and attitudes of the heart,” for that Word is “alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow” (Hebrews 4:12).
May God bring into his kingdom the people from all nations whom he favors through Jesus Christ. Then they too will celebrate “relief from their enemies.”
We praise you, O God, and we look forward to the time when every knee will bow before you and every tongue will confess that you are Lord. Amen.

Good morning everyone, I sure am awake early this morning. Yesterday went good with those shots. It was starting to snow when I got there. Of course I was half hour early but when I was done and came out of the room to the desk it was really snowing and hard.  By the time the ride got there, late as usual, we had 2 inches of snow. The doctor spent a lot of time checking just where to put the shots, he hit 1 spot and my left leg came up off the table.  That surprised him, too. He said my spine is a mess. Odd it never really bothered me till arthritis set in. I never knew I had scoliosis till 6 years ago when I got the first Xray of my back.  I did Laid on the couch when I got home and fell asleep for 2 hours. Missed my Skype time.  Was in bed by 9 last night and slept great. Back feels much better this morning.

JOAN  your DD's yesterday sure got me through the day.

HAL  no problem getting to the appointment but is was  a little scary getting home with that heavy snow coming down.  Visibility was bad, the lady that was driving was a careful one and I was glad for that, she did not speed on the slippery roads. The man who took me talked the whole way. Have fun with your taxes, glad mine is very simple.

SANDY  you are right about February, we have have years with a 14 to 17 inch snow storm on Valentine's day. I sure remember 1 year with a 20 inch snowfall on St. Patrick's day. Never can tell what will happen here in New England.

LARRY   yesterday started with bright sunshine but we ended with snow a little after 1pm.

GLORIA de  when I saw it just starting to snow when I got to my appointment I thought it would not be too bad an hour later but it fell fast and piled up. Took longer to get home than it did to get there but I am glad the driver was careful.

LARRY  there are many different interesting items in those links in Babamail. I do not check all of them, only the ones that interest me. I have saved some of the recipes they have at times. When I order online they bring the groceries up and put the bags where I want them. This week my CNA was here at the right time and helped put everything away. That was a big help. Sometimes they would be out of an item and would tell me but most times I get every thing on my list.

PATRICIA  since I moved here they have changed the fobs. Some lost theirs so she had to get them a new one. Then found out one man gave the one he lost to a son who had been banned from here. Now the new fobs are all numbered and if lost will be cancelled and no good. They also had to change the box for the fob to work. They also changed the call box where guests call our rooms, easier now.

JENNY  back felt much better this morning. I think the laying down and falling asleep yesterday helped it relax and a good night sleep did the rest. I told him how much that first shot helped and he was happy to hear that.

AMY  would be great if the glasses and your appointment are on the same day. You need a break from all that driving.

CAROL  I see the ad for Alexa on TV and it looks great. Glad to know someone who has it and enjoys it.

JUNE  I am getting to the stage I dislike going out, rather just stay home.

JANE  good idea to get that tree down before it falls and causes damage.

JOAN  an omelet will hit the spot this morning. Need something nourishing after not eating much yesterday. Twin Beds made me laugh, good one. Thank you for today's goodies.

Good Morning Everyone!

Gloria, that was good news that your shots helped.  Hope mine does later on this month.

You folks are talking snow and I have the a/c folks coming today to put in my new unit. Don't know how long that will take but I suspect a good portion of the day. And my checkbook.

Amy keep an eye on old charlie, he can be nasty.

Better get my coffee and get cleaned up before the a/c people show up.

Temp here is 43 with a forecast of high of 80 today and lots of sun.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another beautiful in the low 70's day with no rain.  Not much to write about today.  Pat has a PT appointment at 11 am and then I will have dinner this evening at the Church with Scott and hopefully Jennifer.  Then they will come out to the house for a time of visiting.

June, I agree it would be nice if there was a helper to get the groceries into the house.  We do have a utility cart in the kitchen that we can bring to the garage door into the house and put the groceries on it so they can all go into the kitchen at one time.  So I just have to get them from the truck of the car to the garage door into the house.  We have a fairly long hallway into the kitchen so that helps.

Patricia, I read yesterday that Walmart is lowering its free 2-day shipping delivery amount to $35 dollars with no annual fee such as Amazon has for the Prime service and that they now have this service in 600 stores with plans to expand to many other stores this year.

Carol, it sounds like you will have to go back home to Colorado to get any rest from your visitors.

June, you were quite the social bee yesterday with all of your activities.  Glad you felt up to doing all of that.

Gloria, glad you were able to get the shots yesterday and that you feel much better today.  We have had good luck of having only a couple of items out of stock or needing a substitution.

Hal, will you be like Jack Benny and have to open the vault to get to your checkbook?  :)  I sure do miss the old comedians.  You are going to be about 10 degrees warmer than we will be today.

Lloyd, it sounds like you are getting better and I bet your got a good nights sleep with the CPAP machine.

Larry, the way things have been going lately I will have no need for any vault, wallet or checkbook.  And the wife still has one more project, though small, and that is new tile in the bath where we put the new shower.

When talking with the a/c guy he ask if I wanted to replace the heater at the same time and I ask for price and after he gave me the price I told him: no.  I had no desire to put in the whole system for someone else to enjoy in future years.  If I live long enough and need to replace it, then I will, otherwise the kids or whoever can handle the job.

Earl's out there taking my old, dead pine tree down and I'm already casting around as to what to put in it's place.  I'm think of some kind of evergreen that will be big enough to be decorated for Christmas.  There's an outlet just a short distance from where it would be.  I could even put a string of white lights on and leave there there for a sort of night light year round.  Tell me what your REALLY think of this idea or give me some of your own.  I'm open for suggestion and I have until Spring to make up my mind.

Happy FEBRUARY to EVERYFRIEND!  WOW, January sure did fly by quickly.

Again, I stared a post late yesterday afternoon.... the post page was up when I came in and not a word written on it....  I looked, and NO, there is not a post from me!  I really am beginning to question things that I am doing, or not doing!

GLORIA, I am glad to read that you did get there for the shot and that you got back home safe and sound.  Happy, happy for you that once again it seems the shot is a success!  That is wonderful.  I was surprised though, as I thought your son was driving you?

CAROL, it is always good to see a post from you and know what you and Dan have been up to.  Yes, my kids do keep address books a bit messy with all their moving.  The oldest Son, Kurt, is the one that lived in Denver Country Club area that moved to Chicago just over a year ago.  His wife was offered her dream job, so after much consideration they agreed another move, to Boston, is indeed warranted for the family.  Everything has gone so smoothly since the decision was made...a neighbor even came to them and offered to buy their home, with an open end closing date that will work out best for them.  They have checked out schools and are in the process of doing home searches right now.  Heidi will start her new position the first of March. Sorry, I got carried away with way too much info.  We hope and pray they can get as good of living situation in Boston as they did in Chicago, as it was perfect in so many ways.  You two take care and enjoy the rest of your time down there.

JACKIE, those are very nice words you have written regarding our indiciseveness regarding our trip.  I just know that we are so very blessed to have choices, and I should just stop stressing over the small stuff....and as the saying goes, "and it is ALL small stuff"!

Enjoyed the offerings today, JOAN, as always.  Thank you.  Glad you listen to your body and give it the rest it requires after your shopping trip.

JANIE, I do hope the tree removal is all over and done and all is well.  Things like that are a bit stressful.  You just want it done and no one to be hurt.  Glad you think you know what you want to plant in the spot.

LARRY, I  do hope Jennifer will join you for dinner and a visit.  Enjoy the time together.

Sorry all.....I have been way too long winded.  Hope those that are feeling under the weather will feel much better SOON.

Jenny

Bis, Thought of the Day, is what I call one of the best. I am saving that one on my desktop. Reminds me of Bible Study this morning when we discussed death. I had the thought that Death is really a part of Life, as normal an occurrence as we can have. Like the sun setting and rising..you can't have one without the other. Right ?

I am about to go down to the small dining room for lunch. A vegetable omelet sounds good to me. Haven't had "eggs" for a long while now.

We have a program this afternoon, but I think after lunch I will be ready for a nap.

We are having a mild day today..high is to be 69 with some cloudiness. Good napping weather. So off I go to eat and visit with friends.

Janie, my BIL in England has an evergreen in his backyard that was quite small when we went over there for Christmas many years ago and he decorated with lights for the occasion. And he never removed them.  It looks a little strange to see the lights that covered the tree then now only show on the interior of the tree.  But then, it is colorful.  Lights on different things now days are not that unusual.

June, the only part of death that bothers me.....my curiosity of what I wont be around to see.  But then I don't think it will matter cause if what I studied in the bible occurs, I will be a little busy and really wont care.

halkel--I've seen trees that have lights on them year around.

I use the ALEXA to listen to a favorite radio station in Denver - and Don loves to just ask for a special singer's name & it will play a medley of those tunes.  We could and probably should change the name to something really different but so far it is behaving.  It was a super sale and now a bit more expensive.  Just plug it in and ask questions - it isn't good at asking mileage and only does "as the crow flies" - not real road time.

We are so happy with the treatment Don gets at the VA - another call today and they will coordinate with his primary care doctor in another state.

No one can have lights on their trees here year around - it is really dark without street lights except those on main thoroughfares.  That is for sky watching at the observatory on the hill.  I have downloaded a program to pick out the stars and intend to do that one of these cloudless nights when it isn't freezing outside.

Other than that - a gal at the local quilt shop (Cactus...) helped me with a couple of questions - she invented the pattern and I need to get around to it.... so, why am I dawdling here?

Jenny:  The move sounds wonderful - we wish all the best for the family.  Hugs

Hal, it will be a real "trip" to finally find out what awaits us. I thought Heaven would give us the chance to find out all we didn't know before. How can it be Heaven if we have an unsolved question ?

I was locked out of my computer, and my gal fixer upper was gone but another gal came up and between the two of us we got it operating. What they did not tell me was that at the beginning of the year they change ones Password and User name, and this is my move-in year. Now I will know that a year from now I will be given a new password and user name.

Bis, I'm not into joining ALEXA or any other new gadget. This old mind has enough problems just keeping up with what I have. And I am thankful for that.

I am going to have supper at home..lunch really filled me up so I will use some left overs to snack on. My mind is tired tonight.

Poker Dog

A guy walks into a bar and sees a dog playing poker. The guy is amazed that the dog is playing poker.

"Bartender, is that a real dog playing poker?" the guy asks.

"Yep, real as can be." the bartender replies.

"Well is he any good?" the guy asks.

"Na, every time he has a good hand he wags his tail."

Food For Thought

Boaz at the Gate
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 4:1-10; Psalm 15

Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelek, Kilion and Mahlon. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite . . . as my wife . . . .
Ruth 4:9-10
Like the good Samaritan in Jesus’ parable, Boaz goes out of his way to help. At Bethlehem’s gate, where legal decisions are made, Boaz lets the closer relative know of Naomi’s situation. The man is ready to do what is right. But when Boaz points out that Ruth is part of the package, the closer relative steps back; he does not want to endanger his own estate. He knows that if Ruth has only one son by him, then that son, as his only heir, will inherit his property, but another family name will be on the deed.
Boaz doesn’t bat an eye. The elders and people at the gate witness Boaz’s costly kindness. This good Israelite will keep his oath, even when it hurts: he will father a child for Mahlon in order to secure his property and name. Thus Boaz risks his own property and name. What generous humility; what a citizen of the kingdom of God!
The good Israelite Jesus, born in Bethlehem, did not consider equality with God something to hold on to. So outside Jerusalem, in the presence of all the people and elders, he humbled himself and paid the highest price to fill the emptiness of all who yearn for a Redeemer. “Therefore God . . . gave him the name that is above every name . . . to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).
Father God, may we confidently entrust our name and all our property to Jesus Christ, in whose name we have all that we need forever. Amen.

Good morning everyone, wonder what Mr. Groundhog will say about winter ending today.

JOAN  I cannot believe how much better my back feels. Went out and walked  one trip around the parking lot yesterday, had not done that in months. I saw one of the ladies when I got back inside and she told me she thought I had moved because she had not seen me in almost 2 months.  By late afternoon though my back lets me know it. So much better than not being able to stand up straight.

HAL  that is 2 times I got shots in my back in January and I see the pain doctor at the end of this month again. I sure like the new doctor I have. She is the one who set up the appointments where the one I had did nothing no matter how many times I asked him about a pain clinic. His reply was always -I'll check into it and he did nothing. It will be some months yet before we think about AC here.

LLOYD  glad you finally had a good night's sleep. That is something everyone needs.

JEANNE LEE  great graphic for this month. Been a long time since we have seen anything by Ginny Ann.  Thanks for the link.

AMY  you did a weeks worth of dancing with your snow blower yesterday. You sure do a lot of heavy work.

LARRY  we have 2 shopping cars downstairs that we can take out to the porch to unload groceries from car to and bring upstairs to unload and then bring back down for someone else. Really handy to have.  I get free shipping on grocery orders for a $100 order. Since I do not order every week it is so easy to spend $100. That service is from the market I used to go to all the time. Like you I miss the old comedians. Today's so called ones turn me off.

JEANNE LEE  thanks for another link.  Will check it out later.

JANE  I love pine trees and there are different varieties of them.

JOAN  going out on errands or any kind of shopping tires me out so I sure know how you felt when you got home.  That couch looks very inviting then.

JENNY  my son will take me to a different doctor. That was yesterday but I cancelled that and will go on the 10th instead. He will take me to that one. No   way could I go out 2 days in a row anymore.

JUNE  it will be a few months before we see 69° here.

CAROL  no way of seeing the stars here with all the lights around.

JOAN  love those mini muffins. I can have 2 different ones instead on 1 big one. Cute Chuckles. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thank you once again, Joanie for your efforts on our behalf.

Amy, we also had a dusting of snow last night.  There's ne enough to even worry about.  it's what I call "drive over snow".  It's 32º right now with a high of 35 expected.  I think the snow will be gone before long.

I don't have to hurry about something to plant where the tree was taken out.  Earl says I have to pour lime on that area and that nothing will grow there for a year.  Darn!  Maybe I'll get a potted tree for Christmas and keep it for next Spring.

I just sent out my second birthday wishes for this month.  We're all jammed up with birthday in February.  I have a nephew, my DIL, 2 grandnieces, 2 granddaughters, my Son-in-Law, and a former Fresh Air Kid who is still in our family.  If I counted right, that's 8 birthdays to celebrate.  If they weren't so widely scattered and the weather wasn't so uncooperative, I'd suggest a family gathering to celebrate them all at once.

Guess I better get moving and at least get dressed and tame my hair.  It gets so "all anyhow" when I sleep.

Make today a good one, Everyfriend!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well I am up early, got to go have a CT scan with contrast this morning, kinda gives you a warm feeling........ :o ;)
My SIL is picking me up and I suspect that I will take him and myself to the Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast or early lunch.
I will get this done and then see the Urologist in a week or so and that will be the round for him done for a while, well except for the shot in the tummy.  But still have appointments with the eye doc and cardiologist.  And a shot in the back this month.  Ah, don't you just love old age.

Angel, I thought it was a stand alone thingy, but I could be wrong I have not really checked into it.  I knew that Amazon was pushing the 49.99 model cause everything I signed on I had a pop up about it.

Everyone have a good day.

Janie--Good morning.  August for me is like your February with lots of birthdays.  Getting a potted tree is a good idea--you won't have to plant it until next year.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another day like yesterday weather wise with the temperature getting into the low 70's this afternoon.

Scott was able to get my laser printer working again last night while he was here.  It was just he and I at dinner at the Church as Jennifer didn't attend again.  I took her off the permanent list of attendees and if she wants to go she can make the reservation on a weekly basis.  Today will likely be my typical Thursday with coffee and, if I feel up to it, attending the Wisdom class.  I will just have to see how tired I feel when I get my friend back to the assisted living facility where he resides. I also have to make a stop at Walmart to return something Pat ordered that was the wrong item.  The only other thing on my list to do at this point is to make an appointment with a podiatrist and also one with the car dealer for an oil change.

Gloria, I just not a notification on my phone that the Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow  and predicts 6 more weeks of winter.  I had forgotten that today was ground hog day.  Glad your shots are giving you relief from the back pain.

I have read all of the postings but decided to limit my comments as I couldn't think of anything to say that others have no already commented on or didn't need comment.  No promises about a short posting for tomorrow.

Good morning.  Cold here.  We had a very unusual happening here yesterday afternoon/evening.....an ice storm.  It sure did mess up the evening commute and they were asking people to please stay home as there were so many accidents...three with fatalities!

Thinking about you this morning, HAL, with all the medical issues you are dealing with today.  Enjoy the well deserved meal at Cracker Barrel.

JANIE, I had to chuckle at your comment, "all anyhow" regarding your hair!  Sorry to read Karin is home sick today.  One of my grands was sick Tuesday night and missed getting his Tender Foot Award at Scouts.  He sure felt bad.  He insisted he could get there, but upchucked upon arrival and mom had to take him right back home.  He missed school yesterday but was feeling a bit better last night, so it might be a short one.  Last week he missed a couple of days also with something different. Bad time of the year for passing around these bugs.  I hope she feels much better soon. So glad you are able to help out.

AMY, sure hope you do not over do it as you wash your walls.....I have not heard anyone say that for a good long time, and of course you got JOAN'S attention!

LLOYD, sure happy Nancy was able to get out to make the house payment.....hope you both can get to feeling much better soon...a cough like you have wears one down!  Sure happy you have friends able to help out with the cattle.

LARRY, sorry to read Jennifer did not join you and Scott for dinner.  Hope you can rest up after the planned activities you have for today.

JOAN, thank you for the kind words about my family's move.  They are looking right in the area where your family lived when they were there.  Enjoyed your daily offerings, as always.  Thank you.  I could just see the doggies tail wagging... cute joke.

CAROL, appreciate your kind thoughts for our son's move.  Son Dave has Alexa also, and the kids love to ask her all kind of questions...they ask her to tell them a joke, and she does.....she will set a timer for you as well....love the way she will play any music you ask her to.  She never seems to talk unless they say ALEXA...then the blue ring light comes on.  She is pretty special for sure.

Guess I best away.  Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Janie--I sure hope you don't catch what Kiran has.

Good morning Jenny.  I saw on the National Weather about that ice storm.  My family loved their house in the Boston suburbs.  What they didn't like was the snow and cold weather......so they packed up and moved to Alabama.  Of course, your family is used to that kind of weather.

Google greeted me this morning with a Happy Ground Hogs day…hmmmmm. The sun is shining happily and the temp is to be 66 for a high, 53 for tonights low. I am content.

A nice repair man came and adjusted the tension on my door this morning. I now close it manually, so I should not have any more problems with it knocking me down.

Lloyd, I hope the cold weather is keeping you inside so you can heal up that over-worked body of yours. And I hope this will be a nice healing day for you. Sleep is SO healing.

Janie, I'm sorry Kiran is ill, and I hope it is not "catching". You are the bestest Grandma, and need to keep your health.

Jenny, I too chuckled over our Jane's "all anywhere" hair. I can readily associate with that.

I have got the yawns this morning. Already had a short nap while reading a book, then the repairman arrived so I had to come alive. I'll go downstairs for lunch then home to snooze, and hopefully to go to balance and mobility class at 2:45. I also hope to go to a prayer meeting at 6:30 this evening. Went last week and enjoyed it very much. However, the Body rules, and I obey…or try to.

Good morning from the Interior, we're at minus 9 and our lows will be between minus 21-23 until 2/11. Our highs will remain about minus nine. I slept in again today, waking up finally at 8:56 AM. I need to get back to waking up at six or seven, but so far I just turn off the alarm and the next time I'm aware is two or more hours later!  :-[

Hal, I will look up Alexa. What I had heard was that it basically was a hub that interacted and controlled all of the other "smart" devices in your home. I Googled and found this information.

https://www.cnet.com/news/appliance-science-alexa-how-does-alexa-work-the-science-of-amazons-echo/

"There are plenty of things in my house that I yell at. Some of them answer back these days, though, and even do what I ask. My dog is still a work in progress as far as that goes, but my Amazon Echo has just about nailed it. The Echo is a device that uses speech recognition to perform an ever-growing range of tasks on command. Amazon calls the built-in brains of this device "Alexa," and she* is the thing that makes it work.

Alexa is a smart cookie: if I say "Alexa, play some Pink Floyd", she will find some Floyd and start playing it over the built-in speaker of the Echo. If I say "Alexa, what's the weather?" she will calmly tell me that it is too damn hot in Boston. How does she do this? The answer is that Alexa is a bit of a cheat: take the Echo apart and you'll find little more than a few speakers, microphones and a small computer. That isn't enough to do all of the clever stuff that she can do. Her real smarts are on the Internet, in the cloud-computing service run by Amazon.

The small computer in the Echo isn't completely dumb. It has enough built-in smarts to do a number of tasks, like playing back music and making lights blink. It can also recognize the Alexa name: when you say the word "Alexa", it recognizes the word (Amazon calls this the wake word) and starts recording your voice. When you have finished speaking, it sends this recording over the Internet to Amazon.

The service that processes this recording is called Alexa Voice Services (AVS). Run by Amazon, this converts the recording into commands that it interprets. It's more than a simple voice-to-text service: it is a fully programmable service that can work with other online services to do a surprising range of things. Once authorized by Amazon, anyone can use this service for free to build a home-made Echo: Amazon offers sample code for building one using a Raspberry Pi, a simple $30 computer.

It might sound extremely selfless of Amazon to provide this service for free, but as always, they have their reasons: Amazon wants others to build this service into their products so they can sell you stuff. Every product that has Alexa built in is a device that can be used to buy stuff from Amazon.

These commands that Alexa interprets can be very simple: if you ask for the time, the AVS sends back an audio file of Alexa telling you the time, which the Echo plays back. They can also be more complex: if you ask Alexa to play Pink Floyd, the AVS will search the music service you have set up for Pink Floyd, then send a command back to the Echo that sets it playing the requested music.

Alexa can also work with other technologies in your home and beyond. If you have set up any Philips Hue smart light bulbs, for instance, it can control these. Ask Alexa to turn on the living room lights, and Alexa will send a command to the Echo that sends a command to these light bulbs to turn on. It can also work with online services. Link Alexa to Uber, for instance, and you can request an Uber by simply asking Alexa. Link it to Domino's, and you can order a pizza with your voice.

This approach means that the Echo and Alexa can do a lot of things, and the list is getting longer: Amazon is adding more features (called skills) to Alexa, and a smart programmer can build their own. This means that you can use Alexa to control things that aren't on the supported list, and hackers have been hard at work doing things like adding support for controlling the media-center program Kodi and figuring out when the next bus will be arriving at your local bus stop.

However, this approach is also the Achilles' heel of Alexa: it needs internet connectivity and AVS to work. If your internet connection is slow or isn't working, Alexa won't be available, and your Echo will be useless. If Amazon decides to charge for the service (or just close it down), you'll be left with a useless device.

Amazon isn't the only game in town for this sort of thing: Google, Apple and Microsoft offer services that can perform tasks by voice command in the form of OK Google, Siri and Cortana. These use the same approach: voice commands that are processed in a cloud service (although the specifics vary), but most aren't as flexible or as integrated with other services as Alexa is.

Whichever one of these services ends up being the one we all use, hopefully, they will be as polite as Alexa. When I asked her how she works, she replied, "Lots of people have worked hard to teach me, and I'm still learning more." Wouldn't it be nice if all of our appliances were that modest and polite?

*I struggled with the best pronoun to use for Alexa: "it" sounds rather impersonal, but I am also not sure if "she" is appropriate for a disembodied voice from a computer network. However, it seemed like the best one to use. When I asked her, she responded, "I am female in character." Fair enough."

June--I am glad they fixed your door so it won't knock you down again.  Enjoy your lunch and whatever activities you choose to participate in today.

Angelface--All I can say is that it is darned cold there.  After reading all about ALEXA I have decided it's something I don't want/need.

Angel:  It is interesting - re:  our electronics.  We are aware of finding more ads pertaining to our searches so we do know ALEXA is tracking.  Still careful.  We paid $39.59 when it came on sale and must say that the sound is really clear.  Don can understand all the words in songs - as he cannot always have the same results with radio.  I  like to keep up with a special radio show in Denver - that announcer is very well read and his memory is superb - It like the speed we can have it off or on immediately by calling across the room.  ----Our cell phone is a Stupid Phone.  Never going to be Smart.

Gloria:  How nice you were able to get out and walk around in the fresh air.

Jenny:  We talked with granddaughter in Fort Collins last night and she mentioned ice on the streets too.  then, heard about the multi-crashes.  The fools of speed.  Ice is rare there - cannot remember ice on the streets.

Sandy:  Nice picture!  You need a winter hat right now but it is almost March so you are thinking ahead of us.  :)

Just back from lunch...scalloped potatoes and ham, buttered carrots, a small glass of prune juice, another of V-8 juice, coffee and a butterscotch cookie/cake. Plus a nice fat egg salad sandwich that will be supper..so I can stay home and veg-out.

I still plan to go to 2:45 exercise, and 6:30 prayer meeting. Have to keep the mind and body still operating.

Right now though it is book and you know what...a few ZZZZZZZ's.

Kiran seems somewhat better but she spent a lot of time upstairs sleeping.  I tiptoed up to see is she was on the computer twice and she wasn't.  If she sleeps during the day, she isn't feeling well.  But she wasn't coughing as much when I left.

Now I'm going to scrounge some supper and watch a bit of TV through my eyelids (I didn't get a nap this afternoon).  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!

Hal, I read that and found it interesting. But there are already cameras everywhere, along with those on traffic lights and near intersections. In my building, all public areas are on camera and being physically monitored 24/7.  I wear a lifeline around my neck so that if I fall, the "box," will call and ask me if I am okay and do I need help? Are we ever alone?

A strange addition to that is the case of a parrot, previously owned by a murder victim, several years ago. The parrot resides in the evidence room of the police department. It faithfully recalled all sounds of the murder, the police know who did the murder, yet a parrot's "testimony," is not allowed in court.

Carol, it sounds nice and the price is right, but I am in the process of removing possessions and trying to do with less. My new policy is anything coming in means two things must go out.

CHUCKLES

Resumania

"Resumania" is a term coined by Mr. Robert Half, founder of RHI Consulting's parent company, to describe the unintentional bloopers that often appear on job candidates' resumes, job applications and cover letters. Here's some
examples:

"I perform my job with effortless efficiency, effectiveness, efficacy, and expertise."
(And an eye on the "e" section of the dictionary, evidently.)

"Insufficient writing skills...thought processes have slowed down some. If I am not one of the best, I will look for another opportunity."
(No problem ...)

"Seek challenges that test my mind and body, since the two are usually inseparable."
(Glad to hear it.)

"My compensation should be at least equal to my age."
(And bonuses "tied to" his shoe size?)

"I am very detail-oreinted."
(With the possible exception of spelling)

"I can play well with others."
(We'll be sure to tell your mommy.)

"Married, eight children. Prefer frequent travel."
(A new twist on work-family balance.)

"Objection: To utilize my skills in sales."
(Have you considered law school?)

"My salary requirement is $34 per year."
(They say money isn't everything.)

"Served as assistant sore manager."
(Ouch.)

"Work history: Bum. Abandoned belongings and led nomadic lifestyle."
(So you're willing to travel?)

"Previous experience: Self-employed - a fiasco."
(Definitely to the point.)

"I vow to fulfill the goals of the company as long as I live."
(And they say loyalty is hard to come by.)

"Reason for leaving last job: Pushed aside so the vice president's girlfriend could steal my job."
(We're glad you're not bitter.)

Food For Thought

The Boundary Line
(By Steve Troxel, God's Daily Word Ministries)

The devil began his deception by causing Eve to doubt what God said; "Did God really say, 'You must not eat...'?" (Genesis 3:1). He then said God had lied and was actually keeping Eve from something beneficial; "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:5).

The devil convinced Eve that disobeying God (in just this one instance) would be the right thing to do. After all, she would become more like God...and that MUST be the proper path to follow.

Genesis 3:6 "When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it."

Eve had seen the fruit before this encounter with the devil, and she already knew it looked good. But God had established a boundary line which, until now, she had never crossed. However, when the devil presented his twisted version of the truth, this line began to shift. Eve became unsure about absolute right and wrong and saw the line as something she could control.
She adjusted God's path to align with her own desires and, in the process, she violated God's command.

God has shown each of us the boundary line between right and wrong - we KNOW the truth. God's line is not subject to our control, and we are not given the freedom to cross the line depending on our circumstances or perceived benefit.

We are often deceived by simple justifications: "I know this is wrong, but my increased wisdom from this experience will eventually be used to help others." Or, "I know this is wrong, but what else can I do? God surely wants me to eat and pay my bills." Or, "I know this is wrong, but at least it's not as bad as ...." Or the common sexual deception; "I know this is wrong, but we really love each other."

It's God's desire that we trust Him with all our heart and follow His path each and every day, without ANY shortcuts or deviations. As we follow His leading, we will face many decisions - many places where the path divides - and we must decide which direction to turn. Fortunately, we can depend on God to NEVER direct us into sin. If a path contains sin, we can be sure it is NOT God's path - not the path we ought to follow!

Let's trust Him to absolutely direct our every step. Let's draw so close to our Heavenly Father that all deception is exposed. Let's walk His path without compromise and refuse to shift, or cross over, His boundary line of truth.

There may be a wrong way to do the right thing, but never a right way to do a wrong thing.

I managed to get all but 7 quilt blocks done yesterday and will try and finish them up today.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Good morning, Joan and all the other early friends.

Joan, the pancakes and bacon sounds good today.  Haven't had pancakes for a while.  And, of course,  always room for bacon.

Nothing new in my little corner of the world.  Been really tricky weather.  Some warm days and then some colder ones  So far, we have been lucky with the snow. Hardly any of all yet. Sure hope it will stay away.

I have been busy trying to get rid of some clutter.  Did get my walk-in closet cleaned out and got rid of some clothes I no longer wear. That was a long overdue job.  Been trying to get some paper work cleared up and organize my bills.

Joan, I am sure you are anxious to have your daughter visit you for a couple days.  Enjoy a little relaxation with her.  I know you  will enjoy her visit.

Hope  everyone will have a wonderful week end.

Good morning everyone. A cold one today, I just turned the thermostat up.

JOAN  I have never seen mini muffins in a market. Of course I have not been into a market for more than a year now. That I do miss doing.

AMY  not completely pain free but so much better. Feels great to walk up straight and not all bent over and leaning on my rollator. Wow you are ambitious washing walls. Late for fall cleaning and too early for spring cleaning.

JANE  I have 1 birthday this month, My DIL on the 26th. My Dad's was yesterday. He was called home the day the Russians sent up their first Sputnik.

HAL    I thought I was going to the doctors too much lately but you have me beat. Oh those golden years sure aren't much are they.

LARRY  I had the TV on yesterday when they got Punxsutawney Phil out of his burrow yesterday. I just have to laugh at those men all dressed with their hats and all and making a big thing of holing up Phil. From what I hear on local weather we are in for some winter weather/temperatures. We did have a very mild January.

LLOYD  you have good friends to help you while you are ill. Then you help everyone all the time and are a good friend.

JANE  hope Kiran feels better today.

JENNY  those ice storms are really the worse. We have had them here some years and the best is to stay home and off the roads. At least your son and DIL know what winter can be like so the Boston area will not be a surprise. Not like Joan's son and DIL who did not care for the cold and snow.

JUNE  glad your door was fixed. The maintenance man had adjusted mine once but then there was a big inspection and he had to put it back. I am used  to it now and just back into the door. With wood floors it is easy to turn my rollator around when I get in.

PATRICIA   I know I do not need Alexa. If I was confined to bed and had no one to talk to I might consider it then.

CAROL  I love getting outside every day and have been doing it since I moved here. For awhile it was too much trouble but now I can get back to it unless the weather is too cold or snowing/raining. I enjoyed walking in the snow but do not know how my rollator would be in it.

HAL  looks like Echo is Big Brother keeping tags on us.

JOAN  hope your computer will work the way you want after the tech has control of it. That always fascinated me when the tech I used to have would do that. I will enjoy your breakfast this morning. With resumes like those  they must still be looking for jobs. Too bad some people cross that Boundary Line. The world would be a wonderful and peaceful place then. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  take it easy if you go out today.

JOAN  enjoy the time with your daughter.

Good morning Joy.  I need to get busy and clean out my walk-in closet, too.  My daughter's visit are always so short, and I'll enjoy the time she's here.

Gloria--Good morning.  Publix has a big bakery section, and they have many kinds of mini muffins.  My computer seems to be OK today.  I'm going to enjoy Linda's visit.

Hi everyone on an overcast and what will be cooler day here in South Carolina with 60 being our high today.  I did go to coffee yesterday but was just too tired to go back downtown for the Wisdom Group at Church.  By late afternoon I was feeling better and this morning got up a little less tired.  I have nothing on the calendar for today although we do plan on eating our big meal out later this afternoon or evening and I need to pick up just a few things at Aldi's if we eat down that way.

Jenny, glad you were home when the ice storm hit.  Did it damage your trees?  Often when I talk with my good friend who has Alexa he will ask Alexa to tell us a joke and sometimes while we are talking it will start to talk even though it hadn't been addressed.

Patricia, thanks for all of that explanation about Alexa as I learned a lot.  I had a general idea of how it worked but it was far from complete.  I do use SIRI on my iPhone for similar purposes.

Joan, I hope the remote help was able to fix your computer problems.  Hope you have a nice visit with Linda today.

Amy, I often ask my wife if she isn't just making scraps as it seems that often that is the source of her supplies for the next quilt.  The last 8 months or more she hasn't felt like doing much in the way of quilting.

Joy, I hope you and all who stop by here today will have a great day and a nice weekend.

JaneS, glad to see that Kiran was feeling better when you left.  Sure hope you don't catch whatever she was suffering with.  I hope you have had a good day with happy customers and staff to help the hours you work go by quickly.

Bis, I am glad, so glad, you have two good happenings, Linda's visit and a quick computer fix. Wonderful.

My plans for the rest of yesterday were canceled. The last two salt tablets made me sick to the stomach. I called downstairs and told them what happened, they called the doctor, and she said to keep taking the blasted things...they are needed. I am to keep a record of how often it happens. Phooey. So today is turning in to a day of feeling out of sorts and not too physically happy either. I hope and pray the rest of you have a really happy healthy day, and me too !! We are having sprinkles.

Finally got myself in gear and went down for a bandage change.Old wound is looking good..healing is noticeable. New wound is still bleeding a bit and looks terrible. But I get the best of care..no complaints. Nice soft drizzle still coming down, thank you God.

We have a program at 2p.m. that I hope to attend, The Singing Good Timers..all older folks, but very young at heart, and fun. At 6:30 p.m. is a documentary Can we make it to Mars. I am "iffing" that one. It is up to the body, of course.  I hope Lloyd is behaving himself, I feel he is pushing too soon again. And hopefully Hal is surviving his tests. That shot in the tummy sounds dreadful. Don't know if that is today or later.

Sandy, I hope your shopping goes well. I am happy you are celebrating the Super bowl with some goodies.

Sun is coming out this morning, so we will warm up a bit... not too much though.

LARRY, no damage to trees or the like from the ice storm.....just lot's of black ice on roads and build up on cars.  I have only witnessed in person one terrible ice storm in my life.....it was December 1983 in Birmingham.  We were at Bob's Dads funeral... it stopped the city dead in it's track.  It scared me to death as I witnessed people trying to walk or drive a car.  The cars would just slide side ways.... it was impossible to stand let alone walk!  Now tha was an ice storm!  It was much worse up North here in our are.  There were 6 fatalities in six different accidents.  If that doesn't tell you folks are driving much too fast, nothing does.  I have never heard Dave's Alexa say a word unless she is addressed by her name!  Maybe it is because with a family there is so much talking going on, where if out of the blue she hears talking she might assume it is for her!  I, too, use Siri for the same purpose.

JOAN, I hope by now Linda is there and you are enjoying a nice visit.

JUNE, I am sorry you are feeling out of sorts again this fine day. Sorry you must be forced to continue the salt tablets....that sound terrible.  Wish there were another way they could get it into your system. Take care dear lady.

Getting a bit of laundry done this morning...got to keep the clothes clean just in case we decide to pack up and head to AZ.

Have a good day, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

GLORIA, I am so thankful that for the most part we do not have to get out and about when we have the bad weather days....  I feel for those that do, but then we did it when we had to also.  I just smile to think that you are able to stand up now rather than being hummed over.  I hope and pray this shot will continue to work for you.  This new doctor of your is a blessing for you...the last one you had sure didn't give a hoot about your pain or he would have helped you out just as she has.  Very sad... but there are many out there like that.  Sure is nice that you feel like and are able to get outside and enjoy a bit more now.

Jenny dear heart, we all have days when we just do not feel "up", so I will take it as it comes and be grateful. I have to remember to keep God in the picture of this day, and focus on Him, rather than on ME. We are having a nice cool, drippy day, no snow down here, but my Grandkids in Idaho are enjoying freezing weather...honest..they enjoy the winter. And they were both born in So. Ca. McCall is a lovely place to live. I will enjoy the pictures.  :)

I went down for lunch, had a pastrami and swiss cheese sandwich, cup of potato and bacon soup, cole slaw and v8 juice. The sandwich had no taste. Either my taste buds have aged along with the rest of me, or foods have gone downhill in flavor. The dill pickle and cole slaw were delicious. Came home for a bit, then down to hear the Singing Good Timers sing and act up a bit. They are a fun group, some are in their late eighties, but their voices are great. Unless I lose my energy, I do plan to take in the Can we make it to Mars trip, just to keep myself moving along. :walking:

Bis, build some happy memories of Linda's visit to hold you over till the next time. I dug out an album today that Dori made of the 89th Birthday party they had for me. All the Grand kids  and Great Grands (minus one that was still  a gleam in my Grandson's eye) were included in the party at Sunwest Village. Nice memories, for sure.

Janie, those four legged helpers are a blessing for sure. How I miss having my own. They are a big chunk of love covered with fur.

I am trying to keep up with everyone and am so sorry I didn't get back right away to thank all of you that rejoiced with me about my neighbor's great news.  None of us dared to hope for "no cancer found anywhere"... and since she is having trouble getting over 5 weeks of radiation and I am still battling whatever has hold of my body, we are not going to mingle any germs.  Thank you for cheering with us.

Last night I put an eye of round roast in the Dutch oven, browned & let it bake in the oven a few hours so plenty of flavor & tender.  Just got it ground up & boiled some eggs to chop up, with a couple stalks of fine chopped celery, pickle relish & jar of Miracle Whip.... will take a new box of Keebler's club crackers to let all eat along with what everyone else brings.... and I'm picking up the biggest ice cream cake Dairy Queen makes.... "they" tell me I am not contagious so hope nobody catches this & blames me!!!  This bug is all over town, my good friend said she heard of 2 people that had the cough for 4 weeks.

Kansas is cold but to warm up a few days & then more winter.  Stay healthy, sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

I did go down and watch the documentary, "Can we make it to Mars". It was fascinating and I would recommend it to all.The men and women that are working at this are all devoted to the work, and our Government must spend Jillions of dollars supplying them with needed material. I don't understand why we need to go to Mars...but there are many things in this life I don't understand, but I find interesting. There are great brains at work.

Now I am all medicated, cleaned up and ready for bed and book.

Sleep well dear friends, I love you. Hugs, Prayers, and more love. June

CHUCKLES

Get Supplies

At the end of my factory shift, I was asked to purchase some supplies. The machines' conveyor belts needed talcum powder to prevent them from sticking, and we had run out of aspirin for workers with noise-induced tension headaches.

I drove to the nearest store and loaded a shopping cart with four cases of baby powder and several boxes of aspirin. As the man behind me in the checkout line peered at my purchases, he laughed and exclaimed, "Must be one big kid!"

Food For Thought

Parrots and Priorities
(By Alan Smith)

The story is told of a woman who bought a parrot to keep her company, but she returned it the next day. "This bird doesn't talk," she told the owner.

"Does he have a mirror in his cage?" he asked. "Parrots love mirrors. They see their reflection and start a conversation." The woman bought a mirror and left.

The next day she returned; the bird still wasn't talking. "How about a ladder? Parrots love ladders. A happy parrot is a talkative parrot." The woman bought a ladder and left.

But the next day, she was back. "Does your parrot have a swing? No? Well, that's the problem. Once he starts swinging, he'll talk up a storm." The woman reluctantly bought a swing and left.

When she walked into the store the next day, her countenance had changed. "The parrot died," she said. The pet store owner was shocked.

"I'm so sorry. Tell me, did he ever say anything?" he asked.

"Yes, right before he died," the woman replied. "In a weak voice, he asked me, 'Don't they sell any food at that pet store?' "

Sometimes we forget what's really important in life. We get so caught up in things that are good while neglecting the things that are truly necessary. We've got to provide the family with a nice house. And of course, we've got to have at least two cars. And to make everybody truly happy, we need the latest smart phone. But, if we're not careful, we'll make the mistake of thinking those (and many other such "things") are the things that bring us satisfaction and meaning.

The prophet Haggai had a lot to say about priorities. The Jews were spending plenty of time and energy taking care of our own needs, building their own houses, planting their own fields, but they were neglecting the things of God. They were too "busy" for God, but the things that were keeping them busy were not things which should have been of highest priority. "Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?" (Haggai 1:4).

We can easily determine what our true priorities are by looking at (1) what we spend our money on, (2) what we spend our time doing, and (3) what we talk about.

Jesus said, "The thing you should want most is God's kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you." (Matthew 6:33, NCV).

Take a moment to do a "priority check", and strive for what is *most* important today. Don't wait for the parrot to die!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've got to get on the move today because my daughter is coming up here from Maryland when she finishes work today.  It will be a nice visit but her primary objective is to help me clean the carpet in the living room and hall as a part of my Christmas present.  It's been needing it and I was just about to call a professional but we have a Bissell Carpet Cleaner and she is very good with it.  So I'll be making a quick trip to the store for a few items (including Bissell carpet cleaning solution) and then beginning to move small items out of the living room into the dining room.  I can take my time and getting that done because she won't be arriving until around 9 tonight.  We'll get an early start after church tomorrow.

Right now, the dogs are breathing down my back for their breakfast.  Make today a good one!

Snow is lightly falling adding to the bit we got overnight.

Laundry is first on the agenda then maybe a sash shay with the shovel. Looks as if there is snow for most of next week too!!!

Better get a move on here

Joan, thank you for breakfast

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a sunny cold one here at 21° but more normal for this time of year. My son and DIL were here yesterday. She brought her scissors and clippers and at last I have a good haircut again. When he was here last time hew must have told her how terrible my hair was. She is what I call the second daughter I always wanted.

JOAN  glad that you can have a visit with Linda even if it is a short visit. It has been too long since my daughter was here.

LARRY  I do not have your heart problems but every time I go anywhere t takes me a day or 2 to feel rested again.

JUNE  it is a pain when we have to keep records of how meds affect us. I have a form now for how my back feels from the shots the other day.

SANDY  I have 2 grandsons who will be watching the superbowl. I will find out who won on Monday on the news.

JENNY  you do not have to drive fast to slip and slide on icy roads, It is frightening to drive along and suddenly hit a patch of black ice and start sliding. Even chains on tires cannot stop a skid like that. Been there. I am happy I changed doctor. I had asked the last one about pain clinics and all he said was he would look into it but did nothing. First time I have a lady doctor and she takes time to listen and she got all these other doctors lined up for me.

JANE  I am with you, nothing special to enjoy those snacks.

SHIRLEY  wish I had some of your energy. How you can be fighting that bug and still cook for your family is something I would not attempt anymore.

Just heard on the news that some state senators want those on welfare to submit to random drug tests. Might be a good idea, some abuse what they get to buy drugs and they will loose the welfare. They have arrested some who sold food stamps to buy drugs.

JOAN  hot cereal with blueberries please. Good chuckles, cannot picture a baby that big. Food for thought is true of some people. Have to have the best and forget about what is important. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  you make me glad I have no carpeting in here. Much easier with the tile and wood floors I have here.

AMY  no snow here today. You have had more than enough for both of us.

Hi everyone.  It is a clear sky and one of the colder morning we have had all winter as when I arose the weather report said it was 34 degrees.  However, my outside thermometer now says it is over 40 degrees.  I really didn't accomplish much yesterday.  We did go to Ruby Tuesday's late yesterday afternoon after Pat stopped at the Dollar Tree store to get more cards for the Sunday School card ministry and I waited for her in the car.  We had a very good meal and they have improved their salad bar a lot but have also increased their prices by a dollar on most items.  We did get home before dark.  I have nothing on the schedule for today and glad as got up tired again this morning after plenty of sleep.  So I will just take things easy again today.

Joan, glad you were happy with the work the guru did remotely on your comptuer.

June, I do hope today finds you feeling much better and hope today's salt tablets don't make you sick again.  I was glad to see that you  attended the afternoon event yesterday as you must have been feeling better.

Jenny, I have been though numerous ice storms like you describe.  When Pat was working as a nurse on the night shift I had to drive her the probably 5 miles to the hospital and the roads were glare ice.  It was not a fun experience.  Atlanta sometimes has ice storms and one while I was still working was memorable.  Fortunately I carpooling that day with one of my bosses, who lived across the street from me, and he had a front wheel drive vehicle.  The one hour trip ended up taking 5 hours.  We were in no accidents but saw plenty and road blockages from cars sliding hither and yon

Sandy, nice of you to prepare to celebrate Atlanta's win in the Superbowl.  :)  I certainly will be watching.  I was glad to see it is starting fairly early in the evening although that may not be the actual kickoff time.  Now I read your posting that you are only going to watch a few minutes of the game.  Shame on you!  :) I hope your cold, snowy and icy weather won't be too bad up your way.

deAngel, callers at the same time at your back and front door.  You must really be popular.

Shirley, your meal sure sounds good and so doess the Dairy Queen ice cream cake.

JaneS, glad your daughter will clean the carpet for you as that is hard work just like running the vacuum sweeper only more so.

Gloria, these last couple of weeks I don't seem to be able to get rested up.  I am as tired this morning as I was when I went to bed last night and that is after having a long sleep.  Just glad I can stay home today.

I have experienced some ice storms, making my way to work over winding roads across a mountain.  One morning I drove most of the way with my drive wheel on the shoulder where the rough surface provided some traction.  Another time the county road maintenance truck kept driving up and down a curving hill backwards to release the salt/sand mixture for him to drive on. as the light drizzle kept freezing the surface as fast as he could deliver.  Cars were lined up at the top of that hill, waiting a turn every few minutes for three or four of them to progress.  A couple of other times I never got beyond the corner about 300 feet from my house when a 45o right turn became a 360o.  I inched my way home from those spins and called in to work.

Good Morning Everyone!

I didn't make it in yesterday, I was, it seems, messing with something all day long, nothing important, just things that needed to be done.  Like balancing the checkbook and fixing a el cheapo calculator (put in a new battery, which requires taking the thing apart).

June, I don't have a date yet for me shot in the tummy.  I have to see the doctor first so he can review my CT scan and blood work.  It is painful but only for a short period of time.  The nurse (male) is quick and the last one I got wasn't to bad.  He doesn't mess around, he gets it in, plants the seed and he's out of there.

We have to go to a funeral this morning.  So we are up and about and I have to get in a shave when the wife goes to put on her makeup.  She has a special place by a window to do that.  She likes the light, I guess.

Weather here is raw, not really really cold, just miserable,
Jenny, the first time I encountered ice like you were speaking about was in Fort Worth and I was a young guy, working, and my Mother gave me a great hint.  Put socks on over my shoes.  And she gave me an old pair and you could at least walk on the ice, you could still slip if you weren't cautious.

Larry, I saw in todays sports page that Super Bowl was coming on a 5 or 5:30.  But I had read previously that kickoff was around 7, but I could be wrong.

Got to go, being paged to get in there and get shaved.

In March 1976 we had a bad ice storm.  I worked for the electric utility and my boss asked if I could be there to take care of phones and other things that needed attention.  I have no idea how I got to the building which was about 15 miles from home.  I may have ridden with the tree trimming supervisor or I could have driven.  We would drive on the expressway which was kept clear by road crews.  Anyway, we had crews from out-of-state to help.  One of my jobs was to order sandwiches from a local restaurant and I had to order in bulk.  Lots of sandwiches.  I don't know if I had to make coffee or not.  I wasn't the only one there, but most of the office force for the entire division was not there.

Good morning from the Interior, I didn't sleep well, tossed and turned, finally getting up at 10:51; after sleeping in. Farrah had been coming and going on the bed, reminding me of breakfast but I never fully awoke.

Joan, MaryAnn said what I was going to about family visiting. I had hosted a friend from work for two weeks. She had given up her apartment because in two weeks she was moving back to Nashville and was fretting about paying an extra month for the apartment or a hotel. So I invited her to stay at my place and loved the company, we got along great, and I was sad to see her leave.

I have seen only two ice storms here in sixty-five years, one terrible one in 2006 that brought this city to its knees and one almost as bad in 2008. Those were enough and schools and all unnecessary employment was closed. Luckily there were no fatalities in either of those events. But electricity was out and for some up to three weeks due to falling trees.

I was working, at both times, for the state employment office and our department issued licenses such as trucking and other kinds and dealt with military returning to civilian work and that sort of activities. So we closed up and went home. It was quite a trip, walking ten miles on ridged ice to get home. The department manager called each morning for a week, both times, to tell each of us to stay home.

Good afternoon dear friends. I woke up early and had a two hour nap later, so my timing is really weird today.

Gloria, it is an added chore keeping check on "stuff" affecting our bodies, but I prefer that to having some one else interrupt my day by doing the job. I have decided on my own to take a bite of some food following the ingesting of all these chemicals that we need to keep us alive. so far, so good. I'm sure glad you have such a great doctor now Gloria, it makes a big difference having someone who listens and acts, rather than just shuffle us off.

Larry, I think both you and I have learned to listen to our bodies, rather that our "will". We spend our youth pushing ourselves to do more, to do it more quickly, then feel great for what we have accomplished. Then the day arrives when the body says "enough", and we have wised up to obey.

Jeanne Lee, good thinking..using the shoulder of the road for traction.

Larry, I had a male nurse take care of my last leg wound, and he did an excellent job. Now I find the female nurses following the same pattern of bandaging that he used, and I prefer it. Rather than a plastic backed single bandage they are using gauze that is more porous, and I feel oxygen is essential to healing…I don't know why, just one of those things. And I am a happy camper.

Bis, I can associate with your feeling with the short visit. Gary is in and out, although he did spend about two hours installing my new t.v., and last delivery of my Ensure, he took the time to open boxes and arrange half of each flavor with the other half. Dori again is never in a rush, even though she has more programs that she belongs to..even an un-wed mothers organization.

Today is a leisure day for me. Nothing at all scheduled unless I go down at 6:30 to hear George Rossi play and sing for us. I do love his music. When he plays "Pretty Woman", my body can't stay still, that rhythm makes me move. Sigh………

That was sure nice of you to let your friend stay at your place to avoid paying extra  rent, and it was also company for you.

June--Gary and Dori are wonderful.  They are busy folks, but find time to spend with you.  The only kind of Ensure I buy is chocolate.  I don't like the other flavors.

Hello Everyfriend!  Two good things happened or or happening today...

My daughter will be arriving soon from Maryland.  She's staying until Monday and we're going to clean the carpet in the living room and hall.  And we're going to do some heavy-duty visiting while we do that.

Second, My granddaughter, Natalie, who is in grad school in Texas, sent me a text asking me if I would be willing to participate with her in a class project.  She is supposed to enlist the aid of a sage/senior to discuss the topics that they discuss in her class.  I told her to call me and we'll see what happens.  She did and we talked for about an hour about her class and lots of other life facts.  I hope you all don't mind and I hope your ears weren't ringing but I used a lot of you as examples.  And the upshot of this call was that she will be calling me once a week after her class and we'll talk about whatever they discuss in class.  And I suspect that we'll talk about lots of other things, too.  And I suspect that I'll use you all as examples more than once.  You are such a unique gathering of people and this class is all about Seniors and how they deal with the aging process.  I know there are people out there who deal badly but you are all such good examples of people dealing with aging.

She said she is supposed to ask about people who live in Elderly and Care facilities and I was able to tell her about June, and a little about Joy and Patricia and that deAngel is 90+ and still living in her home alone and that MaryAnn is also 90+ and still in her home but her nephew also lives there.  I told her about Shirley and Joan and the "boys" in our group.  She said you are all a group of great people and she's glad I have you for friends.  I am too.

And I'm sure more examples of Senior Living will be forthcoming.  So if anyone's ears ring, it's probably me talking about you.

Jane, I am happy to be part of Natalie's project along with you.  I'll have to watch what I write so I don't do something to downgrade the project!

Today Tom and I met his son, James, and wife, Alicia, at Butterworth Hospital for lunch.  Alicia's parents from Milwaukee were there too.  I think I've written here about Alicia expecting twin girls and she's had blood pressure problems, causing the doctors at the Holland MI Hospital (they live in Holland) to send her to Butterworth in Grand Rapids.  The babies are doing fine so far and weigh about 2.5 pounds each.  If her blood pressure holds steady for two more weeks, they will send her home so the babies can be born in Holland.  She looks good and feels good.  Another great-nephew, Geoff, and his wife, Charissa, are expecting a boy in early March.  The babies would be great-grandchildren of Norm's.  One great-granddaughter was a year old last week.  It's taken a while, but here they come!

Geoff's father, Terry (brother of Tom) put up a metal grab bar in my bathroom today.  I know Sandy will be happy.

We are at 25 degrees now, but we had 2 degrees early this morning.

Jane,  What a great project for you and your grand daughter to be able to share in.   I think that was a really good idea of using some of the friends in this special group.  Thank you for including me.

My niece had to do something like that one time when she was in college.  I think it is good that that age gets to learn a little bit about how "older people" live out their lives.

It will be interesting to hear about some of the other conversations you have with her.

You know when there is such a varied group of personalities, you will get a lot of different ideas about so many things.  I think this group here all seem to really get along so well and nice that everyone feels good about voicing their different opinions about so many things.  That is what makes the world go round !!!!!  What a dull life this would be if we all thought alike.

Hope we all will keep up "our good work".

MaryAnn, so happy that Alicia is doing well and hope things will continue  going in the right direction.

Jane,  what part of Maryland does your daughter live?  I think you probably have mentioned it before, but I have forgotten.  Nice that she is spending a couple days with you, (even tho you will be working part of the time.  Just don't let Joan know about it. lol ) I know you will enjoy spending time with her.

Have a good evening.

Joy

Mary Ann,
I am glad that you have a good strong bar in your bathtub (or shower)....    That and a good mat can make a big difference in your safety .....   (At least mine does in my bath room...   My shower has four bars  ... one on each end and two the length of the tub...   For these,  I am very grateful.

Joy, my daughter lives in Frederick, MD.

Thanks to those of you who answered about the sharing of information with Natalie.  There are no names involved but they've heard me talk about all of you for so long.  Natalie is working on her Master's Degree and wants to be a personal counselor for people with problems when she finishes.

The people that I named were not the only ones referred to and I'll share anything that I can with all of you.  Thanks for not minding.

Good night Everyfriend! May God bless us, every one!

Jane,  yes, I do remember now.  That is a good ride for her, isn't it?   Glad that you have the week end together.

I came to the realisation a couple of days ago that in the four weeks that I have been in Israel I have not seen a single hockey game, football or soccer match and haven't even checked the scores.  And today I won't see the super bowl. The point I want to make is that I am not in the least troubled by this and completely at peace with it. This definitely proves that that there is life beyond sports and life will go on. :D
