Good morning, Sandy.  I saw on the National Weather news that the hot weather is hitting the northeast.

Joan,
Yes,  unfortunately!

I'm still hanging around.  It's up to 86º right now and they're saying cloudy.  I guess the rain passed us by.  We sure could have used some of that.  It's very dry here.

Guess I'll go see what's for lunch!  I'm being a real couch potato today.

Sandy--Good thing you have a/c.

Janie--The rain has passed us by for almost two months now.  Good that you can be a couch potato and get to feeling better.

Good morning from a still wet and soggy Interior with nothing new to report!

Joan and others take my rain....please!  :D

I have to say as someone who spent considerable time interviewing, hiring and attempting to train new and sometimes re-train older employees, that being homeschooled was a giant red flag on an employment application.

I worked in middle management in many states and cities as well as here during my times of work and a homeschooled person usually had issues. They might know their Bible or the wilderness, backward and forwards, but they couldn't spell, often had math difficulties and didn't work well with others and were hard to integrate among other staff.

They had a hard time taking direction and an even more difficult time admitting and or believing they could be wrong. As I said, often a huge red flag on an application. Now, of course, not every homeschooled person had these issues, but a significant amount had troubles enough to hinder their staying employed.

When it is often critical that both you and your spouse work, simply to feed and maintain your family and home, it doesn't make sense not to make an effort in your job.

Unless your "job" is scouting out the best public benefits for you and your family.

June Drabek

Janie, I'm glad you are feeling better, and even gladder that you are taking the day off. We have to give in now and then and baby ourselves in order to properly heal. I had my day off yesterday but feel the need for more rest, so I will take another day. I'm thankful I can do this, no little children needing care, no little animals that need food and exercise, so I can act my age and just enjoy the freedom to do so.

My house keeper was here earlier, changed my bed linen and bath linens, and will return to clean the bathroom. She gave me a nice big hug on her arrival, that warms the heart and soul.

Tisie, I am SO happy you are taking the necessary steps on all the problems and expense you have gone through with that lemon of a motor home. Not only are you are helping yourself, but also others that may buy from this company. You have certainly gone the long mile in patience and tolerance with this company, but enough is enough, right ?

I'm facing another hot, sunny day and the a.c. is busily pumping out cool air. And feeling the need right now, to go lay down and read for a bit. See you all later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Angelface--We'll take all the rain you can send.

June--I hear the couch calling, so after I do a couple more things, I'm going to rest for about half an hour.

Shirley.  You say you are having a cup of Coffee and toast and then back to bed to sleep.
Will coffee let you do that?

For the price you paid for that new Motor home and the troubles you have had with it.. Don't know how you have lasted so long not taken them to court.

Well I just got back from going the the Farm and Fleet store. Decided would shop early before 9:30am and glad I did as it is above 90 deg already.  I am in for the day. They say with the Humidity high will feel about 104.
They are saying that not seen such hot weather so early in the year or even in August. Lasting so long.  We do get a storm during the night it seems to be every other night. Was a good one last night but just makes the the temps higher.

Darn people on my phone. Had three already this morning. One about Credit cards, another from India wanting to fix a Windows problem. And yes, I won a trip to Bermuda. Aren't I a lucky one.  With all that has come out in the Technical field over the past 25 years looks like should be a way to stop this calling but there isn't they say. Will get as bad on our Mobile phones soon.
Think it is time to make lunch. Not eating as much but not loosing a lb. weight. Think it is all the water I drink.  Not getting my 4 mile a day walks in either.

Just to give you a quick heads up...

My daughter called yesterday to tell me about an IRS scam.  Someone calls to tell you that there is a problem with you last return and they leave a message to call them back if you don't answer.  She knows I don't answer calls when I don't recognize the callers name or if there isn't a name.  But she wanted to make sure I didn't call them back.  I told her "My momma didn't raise no dummies."  Just for the record...the IRS doesn't call you on the phone.  They only contact you by mail.

Interestingly enough, I received that call this morning.  And they did leave a message which I immediately deleted.

Now I'm gonna check out the couch, too.

JeanneP--It's VERY  hot here, too.   I am seeing reports from all over the country that they are having unusually high temperatures.

Janie--Just recently there was a segment on local TV about that IRS scam.  Those people are scum.

Good afternoon, I think we all have gotten that call about from the IRS.

Jane, I also do not pick up the phone if I do not recognize the number or name.  My friends know , that, so they will say Gloria pick up  the phone, and say their name.  Well to day got a call, and the man said my name twice, so I did answer.  He was collecting money for Vets.

Gosh it is hot hot there, thankfully we do have a lovely breeze blowing. Hung laundry on the line and it dried in no time!! Mowed the lawn so that job is done for a week, will whipper snip it tomorrow..enough for one day in the heat.

Lindance,I do give to the Vets and the Sally Ann too.they were there for the vets when they needed them.

Jane, I love to turn things around on the scammers or telemarkters..they end up hanging up on me!!!

Tomorrow is to be another hot one..

I only answer my phone
if I know who is calling and I wish to talk
to them.

If it is a person I know but not a convenient
to talk,   I will let it go to the answering
machine, and get back to them later or
I can reach over and shut it down with
out letting it go to the answering machine.

Calls from doctors and hospitals show
their name  so I will answer..
I have done this for years and I get
very few "odd calls" daily..
(maybe one or two) ...

I refuse to  be a victim of phone
harassment so I control very
carefully, who gets through to me
and who does not.

I try to maintain control as I age,
because as I know,  some things
will get out of control that
I can not manage.

So I selfishly hang on to
the control that I still have left
(giggle).

Sandy, I have Caller ID and I also do not pick up the phone if I do not recognize the number or name.  Some messages are left, but very few of those unrecognizable numbers.  I pay $10 a month for Caller ID and it is worth every penny to me.  With a presidential election coming, I know I will be inundated with calls and I don't have to answer them.  It is very easy to delete the messages that are left.

I have never been one to spend time on the phone, computer chats or lengthy email back and forths. Before cell phones, over 98% went to the answering machine and I would either delete or call back from the message. With my cell phone, it goes to messages and I decide from there.

I do the same with my door, reasoning that it's my door and my choice to answer it. Most people who know me, know to call out, and I still remember my father yelling at me to answer the "GD" door! :D I am not antisocial as some have attested. I only value my privacy and would like to pick and choose my activities.

I have some retired friends who have the TV going nonstop 24/7 for "company," and who play cards or go OTL or shopping several times a week. That isn't me or my budget altho a round, or two of poker playing with chips is always enjoyed.

Sometimes I'm reading an engrossing book or on the computer, playing with PSP when my door knocks. When I answer, it is usually someone who wants to gossip about people or celebrities or politics in a way that I do not agree with or find offensive. That is the purpose, to me, of the public rooms.

Someone had the nerve to break our no lobbying rules among others, by having her church group allowed in as "company" and then going with them door to door!!! There was a petition begun, with almost the entire building's signatures, asking for her eviction!

Ruth Ann, I just took a few index cards and used magic tape on both side to cover the touch pad.  I have also used a credit or gift card or a piece of cardboard.  Glad you are back in business with your computer and certainly that you are doing better.  Keep up the good work.

I did see my primary doctor this morning and he is referring me to a hematologist as he thinks the platelets going lower is related to the prostate cancer that has returned and is destroying the bone marrow as the cancer has moved to the bones.  So I will see the hematologist as soon as I can get an appointment to see what the treatment needs to be at this time, if any.   Just another bump in the road and I am not going to worry about it as know I will have good care.

Lloyd, sorry about the bee stings.  I know those hurt.  It has been a long time since I had a sting.  We do have some bees flying around our flowers but so far they haven't been aggressive.

Joan, that must have been very frightening when your husband reacted so badly to the bee sting.

JaneS, nice to be a couch potato occasionally.  Glad you weren't scheduled to work today.

Patricia, I never encountered any applicants who had been home schooled.  Of course, except for support people, the professionals had to have college degrees.  I do know that my best friends children received scholarships and were outstanding college students.  Of course, their parents were teachers and had degrees, which I expect is the exception. To bad one of your residents broke the lobbying rules.

June, it sounds like you have a very loving and caring housekeeper.  Hugs are special.

deAngel, I do not ever participate in phone solicitations as have no idea of who is really calling and a lot of these calling organizations remit very little of what they collect to the designated group.

Amy

Our phone company called when caller ID first came out wanting me to get it. Told them no I didn't need it,she said but if you don't want to talk to someone you just look and don't answer the phone, I told her if I don't wish to talk to someone I just hang up,like this :))) Why should I pay them for a service I could do for free?

Linedancer--I am one who hasn't yet got the IRS call.

Amy--No breeze here.  Not even a blade of grass moving.

Sandy--My phone system displays the name of the caller on the handset and also orally announces who is calling--so I can pretty well monitor my calls.

Angelface--I explained how I monitor my calls above.  My cell phone also displays the name of the caller.  I do answer the door if the doorbell rings at a reasonable hour.

Larry--I don't believe you meant to post that paragraph to Ruth Ann here.  As you know, she doesn't post here.  I will increase my prayers for you that treatment for the low platelets be whatever you and your hematologist deem best.  The times Ray got stung by a bee were very scary.

Larry, I join everyone in wishing you a good result concerning your low platelets.

I worked in either, hospitality, hotels,  apartment management or realtors. Or retail industries,(store, malls, etc); and I was speaking of the support employees dealing with the public such as maids, desk staff, wait staff or concierge, or clerks and cleaning staff.

When we hired professionals, I was only one of a group doing first and second interviews before passing them up along the line for final review.

Good evening, everyone A/C still going.

Amy, I am not sure that was somone calling from  a Vet. group, not when he used my first name to get me to answer the phone,  My husband belong to the American Legion, for years. I only give to groups that I know like the amb., FD, and police. They are in here right away when we call. The police arrive before the amb.

Thanks for the back up about the RV, I need all the "atta girls" I can get.  I really hate to get pushed into a fight but something has to be done about those bullies.

Last I heard it was 107° today & humidity runs it a few degrees higher. How about having the AC go out mid afternoon?  Yikes!  I thought at first the unit just couldn't keep up with the heat until house kept getting warmer.. up to 84°  in the house before I caught on. I've checked all I can so will call the AC people in the morning, they didn't answer while ago.  The lower level is reasonably cool, I don't want to spend the night with any of the kids (they are horrified)....

And the latest problem was the pool water level dropped with the heat & wind so I came down to put a few inches back in, I've done it dozens of times.  BUT, the water isn't coming out of the big hose so either well is bad or something..  I hear the switch kick on but don't hear rushing water.  Not sure what this means but got a feeling this is going to be an expensive week end.  Checked breaker box & everything I can (for AC as well as the well pump).... son that usually comes to my aid is out of town help a friend's son move.  That family has him on speed dial, I think, and they never do a "pay back" for all he does for them.  At least I insist on paying for what he does for me.

Do hope the rest of you have had a better day.  By the way, Linedancer.... coffee works opposite for me, instead of keeping me awake it slows me down & sleep comes fast. My AC is not working. :'(

Larry, my problems are not important compared with yours.... I'll keep you in my prayers.

JaneS

Larry, and anyone else who needs them has my prayers daily.  Extras for Larry while he waits.

I'm off to Dreamland.  Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

CHUCKLES

The Blind Pilot

In these days when flying has become humorless, here's a short tale that may make you smile.

A plane was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly the plane stopped in Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft, the plane would reboard in 30 minutes. Everybody got off the plane except one gentleman who was blind. You could tell the man was blind because his Seeing Eye dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of him throughout the entire flight. It was obvious he had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached him, and calling him by name, said, "Keith, we're in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind guy replied, "No thanks, but maybe the dog would like to stretch his legs."

Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a complete quiet standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with the Seeing Eye Dog! The pilot was even wearing sunglasses. People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!

Food For Thought

Deep Inner-Bleeding
(Author Unknown)

One morning last week I heard Chuck Swindoll say that repeated sexual sin is related to deep inner-bleeding. The phrase "deep inner-bleeding" caught my attention. I had just been referred for a colonoscopy.

I called Debbie, my nurse/friend, and asked what happens if deep bleeding inside the body is found. She explained that the unhealthy part of the colon may be cauterized, and then the healthy parts are attached to each other. Any existing polyps, or growths, are surgically removed.

When I received my instructions from the gastroenterologist, preparation for the colonoscopy sounded . . . well, disgusting! The day before the procedure, after breakfast and a light lunch, I would need to drink large glasses of electrolyte solution every ten minutes to induce catharsis of my system.

The next morning, I would be sedated prior to the procedure, so I would need a friend or family member to drive me to the medical office, wait with me, and drive me home. Although I might feel up to driving, my judgment and reflexes would not be normal, and I would not be allowed to drive for the rest of the day.

As I was contemplating this physical complication, I thought of the spiritual parallels. I am a counselor, and the phrase "deep inner-bleeding" reminded me of an attractive young single friend who, I knew, was struggling with a pattern of repeated sexual sin. "Deep inner-bleeding" had resulted from that person's being touched inappropriately, when just a child, by a parent figure.

Not surprisingly, my dear friend experienced feelings of anger toward the parent figure. Secular counseling said anger was simply the flip side of the powerlessness felt as a child. That anger was also being felt against God for allowing it all to happen.

Are those emotions "cauterized" or numbed, as victims of abuse are gradually "desensitized" through repeated discussion of the memories? Is it really the memories that cause pain and deep inner-bleeding - or a "polyp," a growth?

Dr. Ed Smith, founder of TheoPhostic counseling, suggests that the pain . . . and resulting behavior . . . are caused by lies wrapped tightly in the memories. Lies from the father of lies that repeat, over and over, "You're shameful, you're dirty. There must be something wrong with you for a parent to do something like that.... If you can't trust a parent, how can you trust a Father God?"

Yes, the "catharsis" of confession of sin was needed. But this person had also been greatly sinned against, betrayed by a fellow-human. This confused, angry person needed the healing of the Holy Spirit...

As it turned out, "surgery" took place in my living room . . . unsterile but holy . . . sanctified and set apart as a place in which the Holy Spirit could operate unheeded.

As we prayed, God gave my friend a mental image of Jesus. Not a pretty picture, this abused, backstabbed, and humiliated Jesus hanging on a cross. Maybe God was scary, not to be trusted, but how could you fear a suffering, bleeding Jesus? A Jesus who, in the midst of His own terrible pain, was reaching out in love to you?

After a time of agonizing hesitancy, my friend walked the last mile and knelt at the foot of the cross. "Jesus is trying to tell me something," came the whisper. "He said He understands my feelings of shame and confusion, my feelings of betrayal and abandonment. And . . . He said I was just an innocent child."

Head knowledge had become heart assurance.

Minutes later, there was another whisper. "My parent is kneeling beside me, and it feels . . . so . . . so calm."

Later, my friend admitted, "At first I didn't want Jesus to die for my parents' sins - just my own. But now... I'm glad He did. I wonder... did the same thing happen to my parent as a child?"

The anger was gone. The Wonderful Counselor had done His work, and I had been privileged to witness the Great Physician's surgical removal of the malignant growths called lies.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)

Good morning everyone..
Cooler this morning, have the doors and windows open to let the cooler air in. Sleep was playing hide and go seek with me last night and I am sure a nap will be in order later in the day if need be. Will finish doing the lawn ,just the trimming needs to be done . Going to be another hot humid day here so not much else is going on.

Larry, prayers going your way , you can get over this bump in the road.

Shirley, I think you have had more than your fair share of problems, that's enough now!!!

Joan,thank you for breakfast.

Amy, I slept like a log until 3:45 this morning and then I dozed wakefully off and on until I finally got up at 5:30.  The zzzs were a bit elusive here, too.
