Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend  There's a breakfast frittata to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Farmer’s Market” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Happily Ever After

I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror one evening admiring my reflection.

I posed a question to my wife of 30 years.

“Will you still love me when I’m old, fat, and balding?”

She answered, “I do.”

Food For Thought

Hanging in There

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Romans 5:3-4
Our wedding anniversary is in July. My wife and I have been married for nearly forty years, but we have a long way to go if we want to catch up with Eddie and Jessie Macon of Stockton, California, who just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Eddie was the first African American player of the Chicago Bears, my city’s football team.
Unlike many celebrities, Eddie and Jessie have remained together through a host of -changes. They survived the Great De¬pression, racial segregation, the loss of a child, and physical ailments. When asked about their secret to a long-lasting marriage, Eddie said, “It is because of the bad times, not despite them, that we have stayed together for so long.”
Nowadays people are too eager to give up in the face of ¬changes or hardships. People give up on their education, career, marriage, and friends all too easily when things do not go their way. Sadly, people treat spiritual matters similarly. People leave their church over a minor disagreement. Others give up on their faith because of peer pressure or feeling that God does not answer their prayers.
Let us not lose heart. “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17).
Lord Jesus, help us to follow your example of endurance as you walked ¬toward the cross. Fill us with courage to face changes head-on. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Joanie and Everyfriend!  I'm running a bit late this morning so I'll just mark my place for later.  We had another cool (good sleeping weather) night and it will be in the mid 90s later today.  My reason for running late is that I decided to nap after the doggies went out and now I have to go get ready for church.  See you all later!

Good morning.
Another cool morning, wish the temperature would stay at 52° but we are to fry again today. The weather guessers have been calling for rain and t storms for the past couple of day and nary a drop of rain we have had.Now I see they are calling for it tomorrow...and we have to drive to the city...

Yesterday I managed to get another scrappy quilt top done..not so sure I would do this pattern again but I did want to try it.

There must be beans to pick today and IF the birds have left me any raspberries I will pick them also plus a nice zucchini I saw peeking out from under a big leaf!

Phyllis, lovely big juicy peach in your graphic!I love going to farmers markets!

Joan thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  Good you got a bit more rest this morning after you let the sweet doggies out.

Amy--Good morning.  Here, even the weatherguessers are wishing for rain.  The county where I live on Florida's east coast hasn't had a drop of rain in 22 days, and none is forecast for this week.  What is a "scrappy" quilt?  Lucky you to have those fruits and vegetables to pick.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I don't eat breakfast when I first get up.  I prefer waiting until about 8 a.m.

Good morning,,  Joan and all.

Thank you for breakfast this morning.  I don't think I have ever had a frittata, so it will be something different for me.

Beautiful sunny morning, but supposed to get up in the high 90's today.  And, maybe 100 tomorrow.  I will probably stay in and enjoy the a/c.

I see where the old movie , "The White Cliffs of Dover" is on TCM this morning at 8,  so, I will get another cup of coffee and snuggle up in my recliner and watch.  It was always a favorite war movie.

So, have a great day.  Try to stay cool, and hopefully, the ones of you that need rain, will get at least a little shower to help the dryness.

Callie--Good morning.  You don't usually wake up before the sun. :)

Hi everyone on a beautiful Sunday  and very warm morning morning that is headed to hot.  We will go to Sunday School and Church this morning and then plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for a two for one big hamburger meal.  Plan to watch the PGA golf tourney later this afternoon.

Joan, I slept until 4:30 last night, which was better than the 3:30 the night before.  This is something new to me as have almost always slept well although have always been a fairly early riser.

Gloria, yesterday morning Pat's computer started with with a siren that kept sounding.  I was very concerned that she had picked up a virus or malware of some type as it had that message about calling a number for assistance.  Fortunately it didn't appear to cause any harm and when I closed the browser and reopened it all was fine.  She had clicked ona picture on Pinerest and the problem was apparently downloaded when the picture loaded from her click.

Hal, about 4 years ago I was called to come in to see the Urologist and at that time he told me the cancer was back but my PSA count was very low, as it still is, but now the platelets are going down apparently indicating the cancer is beginning to attack the bones.  Like you whatever the Lord wants for my life is my prayer along with asking for the wisdom to carry out that will.  I have been very specific that I don't want to be kept alive on machines.

Phyllis, Pat was recently diagnosed with asthma and now uses an inhaler twice a day.  She was finding just moving about was leaving her breathless and tired.

Jackie, for our last two homes I have insisted that we have a nice flat yard.

Callie, from what I remember about living in Oklahoma is that getting a breeze was never a problem as it seemed the wind was always blowing.  Of course, during summer that is a very hot breeze.  Taking care of medical appointments can be an almost full-time job, or it seems that way on occasion.

June, nice that your kitchen and wait staff was given a brief in their routine and it sounds like you all certainly didn't starve.  It sounds like they have a very caring employer, which helps create satisfied employees.

Good morning everyone. Once again I did not get here last night. Lot of thunderstorms around this state again yesterday/last night and missed here again. My son came yesterday afternoon and said they had a couple of storms Friday night. That is 15 miles from here.

JOAN  I get Thomas' thin bagels, half as thick and lightly toast them, that way they are crispy and not chewy.

HAL  read again, NO RAIN in this area. This town is the forgotten part of the state until they want to build a power plant and “those in charge” decide this would be the town and make plans to build it here. There is already one gas powered plant here and that polluted some waterways around it and started polluting the air. Now the rain is staying away. This once peaceful town is not like it was when I first moved here 66 years ago. I would not want to be kept alive as a vegetable so doctors and hospitals can make more $$$. Get me out of this continual pain and let me go.

PHYLLIS  my door has a peep hole so when someone knocks I can see who it is. I always keep the door locked so no one can knock and walk in. If someone comes into the foyer they have to buzz the apartment of the one they want to visit and we can let them in of not. We are not allowed to let anyone in if we are on the porch and someone we don't know wants us to let him/her in. I have no breathing problems but in this hot and humid weather I feel like I am trying to breathe under water.

JANE  one son rakes leaves in the spring, by then they are pretty much disintegrated.

JACKIE  like you I dislike taking meds especially if they make my mind fuzzy. I want my head to know what my body is doing.

CALLIE  I miss the cross windows. Only have 2 windows here and both face southwest but at an angle that does not get many breezes in. Those neck coolers sound like some thing everyone would love to have. Bet that Mom could make a fortune making and selling them.

JUNE  we are “family” here in the SS. Like all families we care and worry  about each other. Hope your energy returns soon.

JOAN  I could tell you stories about a Monsignor (spelling) wee had once. He turned many away from the Catholic church.

PHYLLIS  not many generous people around like your neighbors.

JANE  I stayed home in the AC yesterday instead of going to my great grandson's first birthday party. It was a cookout and I would not have survived an afternoon out in that heat and humidity. I had told my grandson I would not be there. I had given him some $$ to get something for him because I don't get out to shop. He sent me a video of what he got for him from me and I feel like I was there seeing him play with it.

JOAN  there is a couple that comes here on Mondays for the rosary and on Wednesday we have a Priest for mas and communion one week  and a Pastor the next for those who cannot get out.

SHIRLEY you sound like my son. When he asked me to take care of the stand at harvest time he insisted on paying me. I did not want anything, I enjoyed being there and I got all the apples I wanted. He always found a way to put some $$ in a bag of apples or someplace where I would find it later. Now his father always wanted to get paid for any little thing he did. I told Mike I was not doing it to get paid, I was not like his father.

HAL  when my time comes my family knows I want no wake or funeral, cremate me and be done with me. I have seen too many times when someone dies and people come out of the woodwork to go to the wake or funeral. If you cannot come and visit when I am alive I don't want you there when I die.

PHYLLIS  oh I would love a tree ripened peach. Big difference in taste from what we get in markets. You graphic for this week is the right season for it.

JOAN  will enjoy a frittata this morning. Hanging in There is what we do every day.  Good quote, I must be rich because I desire little. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LARRY  I dislike clicking on links. I rater copy and past them into the browser. Feels like the only times I get out is for a doctor or dentist appointment. I have not been in a store for about a year now. I liked going to the market now I order on line or my son or helper gets things at the store that I need.

Good morning, Larry.  It's hot here, too.  I haven't been to a Ruby Tuesday's in years, but always enjoyed going there when in Arkansas.  I've always been an early riser, too, but these last few years I'm up between 3 and 4 a.m. to use the nebulizer, and that makes a long day.  Gosh, it'd scare me if a siren sound emanated from my computer.

Gloria--Good morning.  I didn't even know you could buy thing bagels.  I'll have to check that out.
Unfortunately, some who have chosen the clergy for their lives are too impressed with themselves.

Good morning, Gloria.   Like Joan, I have never heard of the thin bagels. I will have to look for them.  And, I will try toasting them, as you suggested, and spread them with cream cheese.   If I had some lox, I would add that.  I like the smoked lox.  Don't ever think about buying it.  But, it would go good with the thin bagel.

Like you,  we have a secured building where you have to buzz the person you are visiting.  When I moved here, I could pay for an extra fob, which my son has.  Like you, we are not supposed to let anybody in that we don't know. But, I and others have done it before when we can see it is a workman from the phone or utility company or the UPS man.  The mailman has his own fob.   Most of us know different family members of some of the residents.

I still am able to get out to the store, but I really don't like going to Walmart anymore.  I am exhausted after walking that big store. But, I feel like I need to get some walking in, as I know I don't walk enough.  I don't have much problem just going to the regular grocery store.  I do like to go once in a while, as I tend to forget items when I just give my DIL or my son a list.

I just finished watching the movie,  The White Cliffs of Dover.  It was so good, but sad.   Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor played the younger children in it.  And, Irene Dunn had the starring role.  A really good war story.  It didn't show much of any fighting.  Beautiful love story.

Have a good day.

Joy

Good morning, halkel.

Joy--You can have my share of smoked lox.  Tried them--not for me.  Another "whatever floats your boat".  I don't go to Walmart anymore.  The one near me is a Super Store and just too big for me.  I can't walk that much without being breathless.  Glad you enjoyed the movie.

Happy Sunday morning dear hearts. I have been up since 3 a.m. so if you never hear from me again this day, you will now I have crapped out. Feeling really good today, but it won't last I'm sure. Three a.m. is an awful hour to wake up.

About Church rules. I feel most problems are caused by the Rector of the Church. Not the Denomination itself , but the guy that is running the particular building. The one who has felt a glorification of Self in the position. Plus the mean hearted few in the congregation that plants the seed in the Rectors mind or wallet. Very few bad guys in the Service of God, but some people are still sinful in mind body or spirit. I personally will be cremated and my ashes scattered is some remote area. If Gary wants to have a service in his Church out of "respect" or whatever you want to title it, he can do as he likes. For me, I plan to let God take over my Soul and  Spirit. It belongs to Him anyway.

Larry, I admire your attitude toward your illness. You have accepted it bravely and you have won the battle. You are at peace and that is a treasure in itself. God Bless you my friend.

Gloria, my son told me he would never let me suffer from a lingering painful illness. He would call in Hospice. They are legally allowed to give enough medication to keep the patient comfortable. That makes me extremely comfortable to know. You are living your life very similar to what I am doing. Shopping on line, Only going "out" to a dentist or eye doctor. And I am content. I am reading myself lazy though. It feels so good to lay down, or kick back in the recliner and just relax with a book.

Joy, we grew up in an age where the movies meant something. Now it is killing, yelling, nudity, noise. I can't imagine why people go to the theatre.

Bis, my shortness of breath seems to be increasing. Sometimes I feel I am going to pass out, so I bend over and take deep breaths. I practice deep breathing as part of my morning exercise too. Dr. blames the breathing problem on my blood pressure medications. I'm going to ask her about a chest xray they did when I moved here. How is asthma diagnosed ?

June--You sure are getting lots of reading done.  I believe there are numerous tests necessary to diagnose asthma, but since I am not a medical professional I can't elaborate.  Perhaps you should see a pulmonologist.

I went to church at 8 a.m.  I truly enjoy the early service.  Everyone who goes feels like family to me.  We all know names and we have a coffee hour after our service run by LeeAnn and Troy.  LeeAnn bakes and boy is she ever a good baker so we have a treat with our coffee every Sunday.  Then I swung by the Farmers Market and got some things I need and now that I've had my lunch, I'm going to start a cherry pitting party.

I also have one doggie bathed.  She doesn't "tink" any more and boy is she ever soft and fluffy!  After the Cherry Pitting Party, the other one will be in the tub and it will be nice to cuddle them again.

Stay cool...except for you Junee.  You stay warm.  We're supposed to get some rain overnight tonight.  I hope I remember to close my car windows.  I think my neighbor got tired of calling to tell me they're open.

Good afternoon, I set on the porch early to day and had my coffee and read the Sunday Paper. Then set another hour, just watching the birds, feeding and taking their baths. I had thrown bread out, have a robbin that likes bread, then our resident groundhog, came and ate his share, also took a picture of him, while he looked at me. It was just a peaceful Sunday morning in my backyard.

Larry and Hal, I carry in my wallet a State of NY Dept. of Health DNR in my wallet. My doctor had made it out a few years ago.

Gloria, they say we only have a 30 percent chance of rain to day. I see the movie ForeverAmber is playing to day on TV.  I remember discussing is a few months ago. The book and the movie were both banded by the church.  Now people would say: What for?

Joan, the last few years, my husband had COPD, and on oxagin 24-7 and all the breathing equipment you have.  So I understand what you are going through.  I have asthma, but the hiatis hernia is the main thing with my breathing,  I need surgery for it, but I am to old.  the only other thing lose more weight. It iis so high up, that it is closeing off my lungs.  The doctor has showed me the X Ray, of how bad it is.

Pleade just overlook spelling

Good afternoon, I took the dogs for a swim this morning, one took to it like a duck to water and the other one well like a boy trying to get out of having his face washed. The water was warm and we were the only ones there!! When we came home the one that didn't care for the water went outside and rolled thoroughly in the dirt..right to the tip of her nose!! Took her in the shower to get that off..lil  stinker.

Bis, I really don't want to introduce another medical professional into my life, like a pulmonologist. I feel like Gloria de..just too old to do anything serious about it. If I got to the point I couldn't breathe without help I may feel differently, but pretty hard-headed at this point.

Jane…..you have me left out there someplace…what is a cherry picking party, and how does it tie in with bathing a couple of dogs??  Penny just hated having a bath. I would have to risk a tooth attack just getting her into the tub. And cutting her nails was another nearly impossible chore. I would hold her while Ed cut and she screamed through the whole procedure. After Ed died I would take her to the Vet and he would always put a muzzle on her to do any kind of job. She was part chihuahua and part devil.

I still haven't fallen asleep or even dozed and I am not tired. I have been awake for 14 hours, and that is a rare event for me. lt will be interesting to find when and how I will crash. If I do.

I had an interesting afternoon. Son called and told me he would be here in 5 minutes and to be ready to go for ice cream.  Fine a chance to get out for a change.  Had a nice ride into Ct. for ice cream and on the way back we stopped at my grandson's and got a chance to see my great grandson. Gosh he is growing fast.  Ended up have burgers my grandson cooked on the grill. It was much cooler today and the humidity was down so enjoyed the afternoon out. They said it was terrible there yesterday afternoon, lot of people and all outside in that heat and humidity with hardly a breeze.

JOAN  I know the ones I get are Thomas's thin bagels. Don't know if any other company beside Thomas makes them. I like the thin bagels more than their English muffins. That Monsignor was at that church as a young priest and no one liked him then. By the time he came back he was an older version of the young one he was. When he finally left they got a good one in. He used to take a walk every evening and always had a group of kids with him. He just drew everyone to him. They even built a Catholic school and named it for him.

JOY  like I told Joan, I have only seen them made by Thomas. I would never be able to eat a bagel that was not toasted. Like you after awhile we get to know who the visitors belong to so we will let them in. With only 52 apartments by now I know everyone here and recognize their family members. But someone we don't know I would never let in. We cannot buy a second fob and if we lose the one we have will cost $50 to replace it.

JUNE  I don't read many books anymore. If I am not downstairs I am at the computer.

JANE  my son brought me some wonderful cherries yesterday. I would love to pit and freeze some  bit I don
t have a cherry pitter and without it is too much like work. Then these are so tasty they would ever make it to the freezer.

GLORIA de  I read and saw he movie Forever Amber years ago and never saw anything bad in it. People will be people.

AMY  we had a dog once that would go to the stream in back of the house and then find dirt to roll in. She would do that all summer. She would want to come inside then but we would her in her fenced area till she dried up and then brush her before letting her in.

JUNEE  I can take the cold much better than summer heat and humidity.

June, I bought Cherries yesterday to make Brandied Cherries for Christmas gifts.  Today, was the day I had planned to pit them.  It was a Cherry PITTING party, not PICKING.  And I was the only person there.  Washing the dogs was another thing that I had planned to do today.  And I finished everything that I had planned.

Tomorrow, I'm going to a Senior Fair.  Our Congressional Representative will be there and there is supposed to be a presentation about Social Security and Medicare.  There will also be representatives from several places that offer services to seniors.  I asked several of my friends to go with me but all of them already have things planned.  So I'm going all by myself.  I want to see what they have to say about Med. and SS.

Also, the rain they promised us overnight has transpired.  It's raining a soft drenching rain.  Thank you God.

And now I'm going to finish up a few things and head off to Dreamland.  Good Night Everyfriend and May God Bless and keep us one and all.

Sure am glad we start a new week tomorrow!  This last one has been the pits... Found the problem with the ceiling fan and outside dusk to dawn lights.  Somehow the breaker switch was turned off.  Absolute mystery how it happened since NOBODY had been down there that day.  Told my son this morning "somebody is living in my basement..."   but I know that isn't true.

We had a neighbor lady that kept calling the police because she thought somebody was living in her attic... never any sign of an intruder but she was convinced too many things happening unexplained.  I know they couldn't live in my attic in this heat... and the cats wouldn't go to the basement if anyone else was down there... they freak out when the doorbell rings.

But, the lights came on tonight & after pushing the breaker switch on, I could hear the fan running as I came up the steps.  Now to find the exact pump for the well so all goes right back without any more hitches.  AC works so life it good~   :snowball:    (Send on the snow, huh, Gloria?)

First off the bat in the morning is the call to Thor to see if the customer service person has any news of their admitting they made the tire switch.... and then the call to the gov agency that does recalls.  After checking with the gov I will decide if I should call the local TV "on your side" crew to see if they want something to chew on, after all, I know I didn't buy the ONLY RV that has a problem & it is not safe to keep taking a chance on flipping with a flat tire!

All this talk about cherries made me think of the cherry tree we had in our back yard growing up.  Dad rigged up a pole with 2 nails on the end & a little tin bucket right under to catch the cherries as we popped them off.  I didn't like anything with cherries but since my husband loved them & supposed to be good for gout, I know how expensive they are to buy.  The house we had after that was where we had the big patch of blackberries, raspberries & dew berries... along with wild strawberries & wild asparagus, apple, pear, persimmon & walnut trees, and Dad had the biggest gardens you ever saw. I think back about being the luckiest kid in the world, talk to my sister and you'd have thought we grew up in different worlds.  She was never outside, had no interest in any of what I remember...  she was the typical "girly-girl", sewed, cooked and always neat as a pin.  I drove her nuts.

I really wanted to plant some blackberrys in the berm here but need to kill out other stuff.... we have a problem with Bermuda grass taking over everything.  Nice thought but probably won't happen while I'm living here.  Ah, dream on, Shirley.... but that's what keeps me going, that carrot in front of my nose!

I'm not getting much sleep this past week & my "resting heart rate" is up in mid to upper 70s again.  Have to work on that.... and then clean house.  Got stuff from the RV filling every vacant spot because it's too hot to leave in the RV, need to organize.  Love to run away from home but can't find any place cool to go.  Quit whining, Shirley.... this is summer!  'Night all, sweet dreams and God Bless!

Good Sunday evening to EVERYFRIEND.

I can not believe I am finally getting in here to post.....it has been a very busy past few days.

Our oldest grandson stayed with us for an over night.  It was wonderful to have him here.  He is a good boy and is a pleasure to spend time with.  He went out and introduced himself to a neighbor and he no sooner came in and she called to tell me how much she enjoyed meeting him.

Yesterday Dr. Dave called to tell us to get ready as he and the three grand's would be over to pick us up.  We played putt putt golf at the cutest place....nice and shady and so much fun.  Then we went to lunch.  After that we drove through the neighborhood that we lived when Dave was a boy.  Then to a special well known ice cream shoppe.  Then we went to Dave's office and we saw his newest hyperbaric chamber.  He now has three.  The new one is bigger than the other two.  So interesting.

Today they called and we met them at the Denver Zoo.  We had a wonderful time as the clouds came over and made it bearable to walk around in the heat.

Mark left today for West Palm Beach to do his week at level 2 of the PGA Academy.  He was very excited to be there again.

SHIRLEY, I certainly wish you the best on your issue with Thor.  This whole thing with that coach has been a night mare for you.  Look forward to your up date.

LARRY, I am so sorry to read your news.  I never ever expected prostate cancer to return after so many years of being clear.  My Bob is six years out from having seeds and I just assumed it would be free sailing from here.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tomorrow Bob will go get his new crown put on and pay more $$$.

Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies today.  I enjoyed them as always.

Tuesday is my best friends colon surgery.  She is in good hands as she is having it done by the doctor that did my daughter-in-laws cancer surgery.  If you would hold good positive thoughts and say some prayers for Patti, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.
It is nearing mid-night so I must say goodnight.....oh and good morning to you, JACKIE.

Jenny, your mention of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy Chambers....is something my old MS Therapy Centre had and was used by many with MS.....as too, other MS Therapy Centres have one or two.....I never got to use it as you had to attend for, cant remember if one hour or two on a daily basis for either two or three consecutive weeks to get you started.....there is no evidence that they do work for MS sufferers but many said they feel the benefit after their session and keep going back for more, so there must be something positive in using them.....Jenny I am sure Dr' Dave would verify in that.....Now If only I could find a near Therapy Centre to me now, I would sure give it a try.....but I have to admit I would more likely panic being locked inside one of these chambers, although they say it is like being in an aeroplane........Link to MS Centre Hyperbaric machines.....Link....

Jenny, as always, Patti, will be in my thoughts and prayers as she deals with another medical issue - procedure....

"Ultimate Reasons You Might Be in the Wrong Church"
(Original version by Keith Todd)

You Might Be In The Wrong Church If............

- You have to pass through a metal detector to get inside.

- The scripture lesson is on "Jonah the Shepherd Boy and His Ark of Many Colors."

- The choir performs "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" - as a polka!

- It's over 100 degrees outside, and the trustees haven't approved turning on the air conditioning yet.

- Everyone drives a nicer car than the pastor.

- They believe that an elected official attending religious services is a violation of the separation of Church and state.

- The preacher is wearing a "David Koresh Rules!" t-shirt

- The sign out front says "First Church of the Gooey Death and Discount House of Worship." (In Del Rio, Texas?)

- .A week before Christmas the pastor announces the church will be "closed for the holidays."

..- Everyone agrees the temperature in the Sanctuary is absolutely perfect!

- You're on your way to a wedding and walk in on a funeral (or vice versa).

- The music director has you sing "Amazing Grace" in the round (a la "row row row your boat").

- Three words: Pastor Larry King.

- The pastor is out of town, but he leaves a video taped message to be shown during the worship service.

- The church picnic will be held at KFC this year.

- You are a member of AARP but they ask you to attend "Children's Church."

- There's no "Reserved For Minister" parking place, only a sign saying 'Visiting preachers can shelter their horses in the stable stall marked 'preacher'.

- The sign out front says "Church-Lite: Home of the original ten minute Sermonette, and the 7.5 Percent Tithe."

- Every illustration the preacher uses somehow refers to "those hilarious Budweiser frogs".

- The missions budget just got cut in half, but the church treasurer just bought a "kickin'" new Harley.

- Elders Council "prayer meetings" usually break up in a fight for the remote control.

- New "Purpose-Driven" mission statement includes vague reference to jello-wrestling.

- Most frequent complaint to worship committee: "Too much Charo, not enough Elvis."

- New head greeters: Mike Tyson and WWF President Vince McMahon.

- On your second Sunday as a visitor they ask you to be their pastor.

- The acolytes are roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the altar candles.

- You are told your offering is nice but the ushers want your wallet, watch, and wedding rings too.

- The usher that meets you at the door says "Hurry on in, the show is about ready to start."

- The announcements last 2 minutes and include the starting time of the afternoon's NASCAR Race, the sermon lasts 6 minutes, and the benediction is "Christians, start your engines ."

- The pastor wears his golf togs in the pulpit.

- The regular pastoral retreats almost always seem to be in either Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

- The organist is Boris Karloff or appears to be his stunt double.

- On the offering envelopes is printed "Please make checks payable directly to the pastor."

- A Hazmat team just sealed the doors and placed quarantine signs up.

- People in the last 10 pews are yelling for more pepperoni pizza with anchovies.

- Everyone is handcuffed together at the ankles before preaching starts.

- You are asked to fasten your seatbelt before the service begins moving.

- You are the only person in the sanctuary and it's 15 minutes after church is scheduled to start.

- The confessional has a coin slot and a hand lever.

- The pastor search committee never disbands.

- Bill Clinton is the speaker of the day and his topic is "Morality In America - How To Be A Shining Example."

- The pastor is introduced with a Johnny Carson style "Heeeeere's Sparky."

- The media refers to the church facilities as a "compound".

- Just before the sermon, cups of strong black coffee are distributed along the pews.

- The ushers passing around the offering basket are wearing ski masks.

- The band for the services has a tip jar on the loudspeaker and all the songs are about money.

- They have a volunteer blood drive in the morning service - that is to be used for some vague purpose in the evening service.

- The Bible they use is the Dr. Seuss version.

- The Choir wears black leather robes.

- The sanctuary has only entrances, no "exits"!

- The ushers look mysteriously like "Men in Black"! (Yes, with sunglasses)

- The offering plate has been passed three times and the sermon hasn't even begun yet.

- The people in the pew next to you brought a sack lunch.

- The acolyte is the youngest member of the congregation, and she is 76.

- The pastor's sermon begins: "Let me tell you about my book..."

- The music minister announces that the liturgy will be sung to the tune of "Wagner's Etude in F sharp minor" and raises his baton.

- When the choir sings, the dogs outside begin to howl, and are closer to being in tune.

- New member candidates are required to submit W-2's for the last 5 years.

- You discover the church refers to the 10 commandments as the 10 suggestions or offers to let you "pick any six."

- The Pastor preaches an eloquent sermon on ancient heresies and the elders want to make them part of the doctrinal statement.

- The New Member's kit includes a certificate of membership, a Bible, church-by-laws, and an assault rifle.

- You're the only person in the congregation who is carrying a Bible, including the preacher.

- The Ushers ask "Smoking or non-smoking?"

- The Church bus has a gun rack.

- There's an ATM machine in the vestibule.

- Members of the Women's quartet are all married to the pastor.

...and the number one sign you're in the wrong church...

- They have open Communion ...but there is a two-drink minimum.

Thought of the Day

"Let us rely on Him. Let us think and live on our knees;
Let us stop believing that we are wisdom, humility, light;
Let us not take one step without prayer,
Because our perfections will shine very little
After our death, before the star and the blue sky.
Only God can save us."

- Victor Hugo

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but not "attem" yet.  I've had my coffee and the doggies have been out.  Today is the day I'm going to the Senior Fair and I might make a stop enroute at the discount grocery to pick up some snacks for when my friend arrives on Saturday.  We'll see!

Prayers for all in need of them and special ones for Patti.

We had enough rain overnight to leave the ground a bit wet but not soggy.  Could use a bit more but, like Amy, we'll take what comes and be grateful.

Have a good day Everyfriend.

Good Monday lunchtime......

We had an early morning Benji vet appointment, his monthly monitoring session.....Benji at present looks and is behaving as normal, eats all his food, still wants to play, still looks to go out on his walks.....Vet done a check-over, lump has grown, vet can now see lump, but its possible lump could be growing up rather than wide, re, to block his toilet, so that was a first sign to look for as and when but may rule that out.......as for the kidneys, vet taken another blood sample, will phone through this afternoon with the numbers result...Vet has explained that if the numbers are higher, and his kidneys fail, ( we were both shocked to hear Benji is only now functioning on 25% of his kidneys ) that if the numbers are higher, it might be that his kidneys could end Benjis life before the cancer does.........On the positive side, we can now take Benji off his daily meds, as he didn't have a stroke and has as good as recovered from the Vestibular Syndrome ( stroke mimic ) but if after a week of being off we notice Benji becoming disorientated we will put him back on them...vet also told us-me, to try upping his half and half normal tinned food and his Hills prescription renal diet tinned food to more prescription diet as his kidneys need to get rid of built up wastage, also told to cut down on his treats as its extra that cant be gotten rid of.....Oh and another piece of positive news, Benjis weight has gone up quite a bit....Our today vet has told us not to put a number on his time....

As a Benji treat and a treat for myself, there is a lovely grassed piece of land at the back of the vets...the scenery is to die for, we are up high overlooking several fields, in the distance there is a lavender field, benches to sit and rest on, just so peaceful, relaxing and quiet, just other dog walkers in the distance, or the odd ones who pass to go through the style gate........

Good morning everyone, will get back to 90s again today, second heat wave on the way. Glad I had a chance to get out yesterday.

SHIRLEY  yes snow time of year is our time. Like you I could complain about summer heat every year but it will not make it go away. Gee if we had the $$$ we could head to Australia for their winters.

JOAN  apple fritters will be great this morning. Most anything with apples is good. Got some good chuckles with the Wrong Church. Good quote. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  I can well believe  Babe was thinking that. Telling you she will “clean up” in her own way. Safe travel.

JANE  we are about the only town here that did not get any rain from all the storms the past week.

LLOYD  no rain here.

JACKIE  looks like you will just have to keep an eye on how Benji acts.

Good Morning Everyone!

Looks most have checked in already, it is 7:30 here and weather guy had some good news, possibility 30 percent of rain for the next couple of days.  Finally the old Summer high is moving West and letting some of the lows come on in.  a good rain would be sooooooooo nice.

Shirley, since both my grandparents had farms we always had plenty of "good" stuff.  One had a peach orchard and grape arbor and grew melons, summer time was always a treat.  Think they would believe what a little old watermelon cost now days.  :o

Shirley I hope you find someone to help with the vehicle.  Also, circuit breakers as the age sometimes get weak or you can get a power surge and it will pop one of them, doing what they are suppose to do.  Or a good lightening strike in the area will pop on.  No biggie unless it happens again and again.  Believe it or not a light fixture in my master bedroom a few months ago developed a short and like to never have found it.  Luckily my SIL and Grandson in law and their friend figured it out and we replaced it and solved the problem.  Just another low cost fixture from our friends in far a way lands. Cheaply built.

Janie, hope you enjoy your seniors fair.

Joanie, you got lots planned today.  Nothing here, but have some (two) doctors appointments later this week and suppose to go down and look at a new car for my wife.  We are thinking about leasing, just makes sense since we are both in our 80's and by the time the lease runs out we more than likely want be driving or dead.

Jackie, good news about your pup.  My dog yesterday and this morning has been in such a loving mood.  She is starting to show her age, muzzle is getting white as snow and slow in getting up and down.  She is such a loving, gentle soul.  I swear she thinks all my kids are her puppies the way she gets all excited when they pull in the drive way and come to the door.  She wags her rear end and sometimes I think it is going to fall off.

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning.  It seems it will be another day of isolation.  It is supposed to go to upper 90s with "real feel" of 105-107 so I have all the blinds closed and do not plan to go out at all.  Closing the blinds helps to keep the house cool and the A/C running less but it does start to feel like I have been put in solitary confinement.  That's OK as long as the air conditioner and the ceiling fans are working.  If they stop we'll retire to the basement where it stays relatively cool all the time.

Shirley, when it is so hot sometimes there will be a dip in the power system and that will trip some breakers.  No fault of you or your house, and no one living in your basement.  Just this dratted heat and a power company system that is struggling to keep up with the demand.

I'm thinking that perhaps it would be better to do the laundry tonight when the power usage will be down a little.  Haven't made up my mind yet and we haven't had any brownouts but I know this area is using a lot of the available power.  We have a large nuclear power plant just about 15 miles from us so we usually don't have a problem with the supply.

I love sour cherries but they are hard to find.  My mother canned jar after jar of sour cherries from "Dad Martin's" Cherry orchard just a few miles outside of my home town.  We loved her sour cherry pies and she made really good ones.  I have always tried to make as good a pie as she did and never could get the hang of it.

Breakfast is calling and I am away to have a bowl of homemade granola.  I can't eat first thing when I get up but am ready for it after a couple of hours.

Hi everyone.  It was already 87 degrees at 8 am this morning when I went out to water my plants. Our high is predicted at 95 but do expect it to get hotter this afternoon as yesterday we were at 100 degrees.

I am having a big breakfast today with two delicious South Carolina peaches, a banana, a little glass of cranberry juice, my nutrition drink and the nutrition bar.  I shouldn't need much for lunch.  I did pick four ripe tomatoes but think that is about the end of the crop.  The yellow peppers (only three on the plant) are ready to pick but will leave that up to Pat to say when they are ready.  The only thing on my schedule for today is to attend my Monday noon meeting.

Yesterday after church we did go to Ruby Tuesdays and each had one of their delicious hamburgers with one side using the 2 for 1 coupon.

Gloria, I can't imagine living in one area for 66 years.  Pat and I have been nomads in comparison.  Many peaceful towns have changed drastically over the years.  I was happy to read your son was able to get you out for a little while yesterday and you got to see that great grandchild.

Joy, do people visiting your building have to stop at the front desk and get a badge to wear while in the building that has their picture on it?  This is what was required in the last building Stacey lived in.  We got to know the front desk folks very well.  I know what you mean about being exhausted when you do much walking in a store like Walmart.  I try to avoid them but do shop at Walmart fairly often and it seems I have to go from one side of the store to the other.  In the past I have used the electric carts, which helped a lot, but now trying to just walk slowly, stop often, and get some steps in for the day. One reason we really like Aldi's is it is small with relatively short aisles and one doesn't feel so exhausted when the shopping is done.

deAngel, I wish South Carolina had the DNR cards for the wallet.  I need to put on file at the University Hospital my final health care instructions. All of the doctor's I see are a part of the University medical system and would then have access to them.

Shirley, glad that a couple of your electrical problems were so simply solved.  Hope you can get more rest this week.

Jenny, you and Bob are so fortunate to have so many opportunities to spend such quality time with your children and grandchildren.  It is obvious from your writing how much you enjoy life.  I bet that scooter came in very handy at the zoo yesterday.

Joan, I read the story about the Fort Myers shooting, which was terrible.  I couldn't help question why a 12 year old would be allowed to go to such a party and be out so late.

Lloyd, I think most big cities are having homicides almost daily.  Glad you got some rain although 2 1/2 inches might be a bit much at one time.

Jackie, sounds like a good vet visit for Benji.

Hal, did they ever raise Black Diamond watermelons down your way?  I remember how delicious they were as they were a dark red and so juicy.  I have never seen them in the stores here in the South.

Good morning/lunchtime Vanilla-Jackie.  You are doing everything the Vet told you to do for Benji and that appears to be comforting to him.  The grassed land where you went after the vet sounds so very relaxing.

Gloria--Nice that you got out yesterday since the weather has turned very warm again.  I need to get some apple fritters at the store--haven't had any for ages.

halkel--Good morning.  Weather report here didn't include any possibility of rain. :(  Your dog sure does sound loving.   Sure wish I could have a dog.  What kind of car are you going to get your wife?

Lloyd--We haven't had 2 1/2" of rain total in a couple months.

Phyllis--Good morning.  I can empathize with you about the isolation.  Nobody here has cellars so if the a/c quit, I'd have to go to a hotel/motel.  Like you, I don't care to eat until I've been up a couple hours.

Good morning, Larry.  This intense heat is beginning to get me.  Your breakfast sure was nutritious.  IMO 12 y/o is way too young to be going to those clubs.

Larry, cant really give you an honest answer.  Seems like they used to grown them, Weatherford, Texas about 17 miles East of my hometown of Mineral Wells used to claim the watermelon capital of the world, but looking at the following link seems things have changed in my lifetime.  They and my area used to grown tons of Alberta peaches, big and juicy.

Larry, I've lived in Lewisburg 71 years this past March.  I was not quite 11 when we moved here.  But I've lived 4 different places in town.  Used to be we knew everyone in town and then even after the town qrew, we knew a lot people because of being in business here.  Now, I can walk down the main street and I don't even recognize most of the stores.

I went to the Senior Fair and it was a waste of time.  If you were interested in collecting business cards and pens for all the nursing homes and services in the valley, it would have been worthwhile.  There was no one there to talk about Medicare and Social Security and that's what I wanted.  They said the representative "would be in later" and I could talk directly to him if wanted to wait.  I didn't.

Now for some lunch and then the brandied cherries.

I forgot who it was that mentioned the sour cherries.  I have 11 pints of them in the cupboard.  They do make good pies but I like to just eat them right out of the jars.  They are good for a lot of things, including eyesight.

Our vet just phoned, R took the call, I listened.....Benjis numbers have gone up three digits from 11 to 14....Vet said if it had gone up to 20 he would now be very concerned....and more so if it goes up to 30 or 40, Benji's life would be over....Vet told us to give more ratio of Hills Prescription Diet Renal foods, and cut out the treats.....When asked if both kidneys are affected he couldn't give the answer without doing a biopsy, only that his kidneys are working on 25% only....so no telling whether one kidney is good and the other almost packing up.....Benji is fine as I type, best not to know how long we have with him, be it his kidney function or cancer....We have made our next follow up appointment for 30th next month....
Vet also couldn't answer as to whether the cancer is affecting his kidneys...he said there is that possibility...but at present it is not being treated as such...

As long as Benji is eating, still has an interest in playing with his soft toys, wagging his tail, enjoying his walks, looking pleased to see us, giving the odd kiss,...he wont be leaving us yet....

halkel--That's a nice looking vehicle.

Janie--Too bad you wasted your time going to the Fair.  I didn't know that cherries were good for eyesight.  I'll have to tell that to my sister.

Vanilla-Jackie--Best to enjoy Benji while you have him, follow the vet's directives and make good memories with him.

HAL and Larry - I just read your recent comments RE the delicious Water melons you enjoyed.  That brand is NOT available in our area of NC, but I recall cousins on my maternal side of the family sitting in their Texas farm fields when they took a break from working the huge fields to enjoy those melons.  Their Mom used to put the melons in a small Creek near their back field to keep them cool!

I watched my neighbor mow his lawn a while ago and every time I see him working so hard, I become even more grateful for the local fellows who tend to our yard.  Although I used to do it myself years ago, I sure couldn't do it anymore!

Hope all Friends had an enjoyable weekend and have plans for an interesting week ahead.

You know Molly, when I was physically able to care for my outside it was one of the most enjoyable jobs going, for me.  I worked in a confined area with no access to windows so you could not even look out.  So, being outside in fresh air and sunshine was great.  Especially after getting everything cut, trimmed and turning the sprinkler on and, then, getting myself an adult beverage just sitting on the patio in a nice easy chair and watching the grass being water......ahhhh, the life of a king.

About 15 years ago my oldest daughter got married in my backyard and we had the reception there.  It was absolutely gorgeous out there.  I then had three large trees, and numerous hanging baskets in full bloom or the foliage was healthy and green.  I guess I could say back in my glory days..... ;D  It still looks decent but the trees are all gone and mos of the hanging plants and now that the wife cant get up and down the flower beds around BBQ and bird bath remain full of weeds and grass and no flowers.  But we still have quite a few plants in containers.

I'm finished with the brandied cherries.  There are 13 half pint jars with green lids waiting to be distributed for Christmas.  There is also one very small jar holding 4 leftovers that didn't fit the jars sitting in the fridge for later.  I also had to regretfully dump one broken jar full in the garbage.  I considered picking out the cherries but decided that I didn't want to risk a tiny piece of glass going into my body.

Also managed to squeeze in a nap while they cooled and now we are having a lovely rain storm.  You can almost hear the ground slurping it up.  All in all, it's been a pretty good day.

Larry, I completely forgot about those Black Diamond water melons!  What memories.... at Grandma's house the men would cut the watermelons apart on a wooden bench under a big tree in the back yard.  Only a few cousins on that side but we sure enjoyed the juice dripping down out elbows  & seeing who could spit the seeds the farthest.  By the time I came along we were allowed to eat any of the grapes we wanted, would squeeze those big black one in our mouth (minus the skin) but the green & red ones we ate the skin.  They originally made wine & vinegar with the grapes.

Jenny, so sorry about your friend, so much sadness, but at least more hope that years ago, right?  Prayers & strong thoughts heading her way.

Jackie, I am amazed at the good care you give your pups..... know how much you & R love them but not many can afford those vet bills.  My sincere compliments for being such good care givers.

Hal, my husband felt like you.... the yard was his "therapy", being in an office or traveling all the time.  Much as I love the woods & mountains, I don't like the sun and lack of trees.  My river bed/bank is totally shaded, trees bumper to bumper along my side of the bank.  It is much cooler down there than at the house.  He wasn't much good about flowers.... used to grin & apologize for backing up over flowers that he missed on the first run.  I learned to put bricks or something metal around any bushes or plants!  We had neighbors at one time that came from Weatherford, TX.

Not sure if I got in here to say that "I took the bull by the horns" this morning, made the official complaint to the vehicle safety hotline, called all involved (including the dealer I bought from).  Not sure who I talked to, didn't recognize the voice, but I explained I had made the complaint and had called the local TV "on your side" so they might be contacted.  The smart mouth said, "and this affects me how?"  I just said, "you might want to check your inventory to see if you have other units that the tires have rubber valve stems, they are a hazard!" and I just hung up.  I do feel better just taking charge, Ford dealer will order the metal valve stems & they will mount them (at roughly $50-$60 per tire)... only 3 involved but may have that other tire damaged & that would be an additional $200+. The lemon is paid for & warranty gone except for Ford chassis. Not sure how long I will keep it but making plans for fall....

I agree with all of you that mentioned the power surges..... it happens & can trip a breaker... but in all the times I've dealt with that, it meant having to reset clocks, etc.  Just a fluke & probably never happen again, but something else unexpected will, for sure!   :crazy2:

Think I will treat myself to TX Roadhouse tonight....will get carry out, maybe a nap first. FitBit tells me I did some serious steps & 2+ miles and 7 floors so far today.  I yam weary.

Oh, Jane, sorry about the broken jar... I agree not worth the risk of a speck of glass.   :tissue:

Molly--I, too, am grateful for the lawn crews we have here.   Of course, we pay plenty for them, but I sure couldn't do it myself.

halkel--Working in the yard and with the flowers and vegetable garden was like therapy for my husband.

Janie--Glad you had a good day.

Shirley--Sure hope in some way you get everything fixed on that lemon RV.  It sure has been nothing but trouble.

Amy--Bet if you "google" you'll get several hits for chicken fried steak.  It's popular in the south.

No June today.  I sure hope she's OK.

Good Monday afternoon to EVERYFRIEND!

It is another scorcher today.....a bit of a cloud cover just came over, so just maybe it will help to cool down a little bit.

Found out today that my 50th class reunion over Labor Day may be cancelled due to lack of interest.  I have had anxiety about going...not really sure why, so it would make me feel better if they do cancel it rather than me have to renig on going!

SHIRLEY, I will be thinking about you and hoping you get a response to your calls today.  I sure did not like the response from your dealership.  Just thinking about chicken fried steak makes me so hungry. Hope you enjoy your dinner.

JACKIE, good to read some positive comments about Benji rather than everything being bad. I know you are thankful for every minute you have left with him.

Thank you for the comments and prayers for my dear friend Patti.  I know she is going to do well, but it sure makes me feel better knowing she has your thoughts and prayers.

Oh my, just found my post sitting here waiting to be posted.

Good night and pleasant dreams to all.

Well, first shower today fizzled before it got to my house, but I could smell the rain
and now we have a humm dinger just East of us.  Lots of thunder and streaky lightening, but nary a drop here at my house.  Looking at RADAR it shows some lite rain headed toward me, but I am not going to count on it getting here.

June, hope you are well.

Shutting down and headed to the sack.  Listening to Bernie run the country down
for the mess he helped create.

Nite, God Bless and Sweet Dreams.

CHUCKLES

Mars

On the way to spend the weekend with us, our grandchildren noticed a bright star in the sky. Our daughter, Nancy, told them that it was Mars, which was at its closest and brightest in many thousands of years. She went on to provide a simplified explanation of the solar system suitable for her young listeners in the back seat. Nancy ended her explanation with, "We live on a planet called Earth."

After a long pause, my four-year-old grandson asked, "What planet does Grandpa live on?"

Food For Thought

Not "Know it Alls", but "Know Some things"
(By Kerry Doyal, Christ Community Fellowship)

A coffee cup and a T-shirt snagged my imagination recently. My sister had on the shirt. The cup was from that chic coffee franchise we'll call "Stellar-dollars."

The T-shirt said on the front: "I know that I know that I know that I know." With this being my sister, I didn't know where that shirt was going. Did I dare ask?

Reading her back (the shirt, not a tattoo) I saw what she knew. It was a quote from a Nicole C. Mullins song: "...that my redeemer lives. I talked to Him this morning." A great song which quotes in part from Job.

I never doubted you Kara. Thanks for the reminder! Hallelujah, we can know our risen Savior lives - even if we neglected to talk with Him this morning. Even if we never talk to Him - He lives.

So that was the shirt. Now, the coffee cup was immediate preacher fodder (i.e. sermon supplement). I drained the cup Saturday PM (decaf, mind you) and used it Sunday AM. For the record: not that I was desperate for material - this time. It genuinely fit my sermon.

Despite my "cool-because-she's-college-aged" daughter's teasing, I feel very hip in getting such a great quote from Stellar-dollars. They are an international company that celebrates multiculturalism (all cultures and their "truths" are equal) and total tolerance (again, all truths are equal). Later, go Google "postmodernism."

The cup read in part: "This is what we know to be true: We opened our very first store in (insert city and state), in (insert year). We still roast our coffee ourselves... We served the best cup of coffee 37 years ago... "

Did you see what got me juiced? Read their simple, wonderful assertion again: "This is what we know to be true." Wow! Truth that can be known, verified, legally, historically documented and even printed on a 10% post-consumer recycled fiber cup!

They know that they know that they know. And they want us to know what can be known with certainty as well. They point us to a place, a time, a process, a history. They even tell us they make the best coffee - daring us to taste and see that they are good.

It thrills me to see in a day of doubt which questions all truth claims that someone still uses such language. Alas, some sensible sanity! Verifiable data and historical reliability exists!

They rightfully expect that most cup-readers will understand this narrative of their origins is a clear, sensible, provable statement. No deconstruction or cultural reinterpretation needed.

This perky little cup holds its truth claims to be more than self-evident. It gives us enough facts to investigate and see if it will stand-up under scrutiny.

Were we to research this truth claim without bias - say, a preference for someone else's coffee - we could prove or disprove their truth claims. We too could say: This is what WE now know to be true! We too would know that what they know that they know.

Assuming their claims are valid, they are true even if I do not believe them. It does not need my faith to make it true. It can hold its own truth-grounds even if we did not drink a cup this morning.

The Bible gives us truth-claims about our living Redeemer. It asks - almost dares us - to verify them. The Apostle Paul set forth 500 eyewitnesses to Jesus' resurrection. The Corinthians were invited to investigate if these multitudes had in fact seen Jesus alive again (1 Corinthians 15).

Dr. Luke tells us he investigated thoroughly what he wrote in his gospel account (see Luke 1:1-4, Acts 1). He spoke with eyewitnesses who heard Jesus teach, saw Him perform miracles, watched Him die a hideous death and then come back alive. Luke gives us names, places, times.

The Apostle John tells us he too was an eyewitness. He writes of what he heard, saw, touched and carefully observed (1 John 1). In an historical place, in a specific time, Jesus lived, died, rose again, ascended back to heaven and now offers salvation to all who obey Him by believing (John 1:1-18; 3:14-17; 21:24, 25).

Don't kid yourself: seeing ain't always believing. Many saw and did not believe. They had - as we do - heart issues, not intellectual difficulties.

Jesus graciously let Doubting Thomas see Him after His resurrection. He then blessed those who do not see yet still believe (John 20:24-31). Jesus left behind enough witnesses for us to be held responsible for making the right faith-choice concerning Him (John 1:12; 3:36; 5:24).

Jesus equates belief with obedience, not brain-deadness. We do not believe despite lacking facts. We believe because it is true, He is truth and the evidence is more than sufficient, reliable and compelling. Disbelief is disobedience.

Why will we take at face value what a hot beverage cup says? Simple: it makes no moral demands on my life, other than to recycle. Jesus, the Creator of the stars, is not one you should buck. You can talk to Him any part of the day. He lives and shall once again take His stand on the earth.

Some books for further investigation. First, the Bible! Then, mull over The Reason for God by Timothy Keller. Also is Choosing Your Faith by Mark Mittelberg, a unique approach that helps you see why you believe what you believe and if your faith-choice is solid.

I also recommended two classics by Josh McDowell: More than a Carpenter and Evidence that Demands a Verdict. Most importantly, I commend you to Jesus, who invites us to taste and see that He is good â€" truth that you can know.

Thought of the Day

"The moment you begin to ponder the essence of truth, you are brought face-to-face with the requirement of a universal absolute - the eternal reality of God."

Still no June??? Hope her computer is the problem and she is ok.

Jane, have a great day at work... maybe by the time you get back home the problem will be solved.

Lloyd, we must have gotten some rain last night, the patio is damp and chairs are wet and it hot and humid like your wouldn't believe.

Jackie is missing this morning.  Hope everything is okay with her.

Going down this morning to look at a car.  I think I told you that before.

Janie, hope your Granddaughter is okay and it is nothing serious wrong.

Coffee is calling me, I would invite you all over, and you are welcome, but no patio time, just too humid, but we can sit in breakfast area.

Hi everyone.  It is to be another really hot day here with no rain.  We plan on getting to COSTCO close to the time they open at 10 am so we can get back home and into the cool ASAP.  Pat likes the meat at COSTCO and our larder is about bare so sort of a necessary trip.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.

When I went to use the garden hose to water in front it sprang a leak and there wasn't even enough pressure to get a drop out of the end of the hose.  This is 3 hoses that have failed on me this season already.  Although I don't want to guess I will have to go with a heavy duty hose.  I am still awaiting the replacement hose for the back of the house but am confident I will get it any day now.  It can't be overuse as I use each only a few minutes a day and never leave pressure on the hose.  Certainly not life's biggest problem.

Hal, I enjoyed another South Carolina peach this morning with my breakfast.  A couple in our Sunday School class went to the orchard and bought two cases of peaches and shared with the class.  They said they got them for $12 a case.  They did this last year as well. The house we had when we moved back to Atlanta had a beautiful yard and lovely shaded screened in back porch.  Our son and DIL were married on it with just a judge and another couple besides us as witnesses.  It was late October so it wasn't hot on the porch.  In those days I was able to maintain my own yard.

JaneS, I know what you mean about not knowing the people in town.  I only know the neighbors right around me although met a few at a homeowner's association a year ago.  Sorry your senior fair was a waste of time.  I had a similar experience when I went to one at our Senior Center.

Molly, I had forgotten about cooling the watermelons in water.  We had a big milk cooler under an arbor and the water always stayed cool.  We also had a cellar that stayed very cool and could put the watermelons down there.  I think the melons we had were grown locally and it was the days before seedless melons, which I don't think have the flavor of seeded one.

Shirley, I remember the summer family reunions in the park every year and watermelon was always a staple and greatly enjoyed.  I never considered yard work therapy but really didn't mind it, especially after getting a riding lawn mower.  Hope your efforts in going public on your motor home problems bring some relief to you.  We love Texas Roadhouse but not been there for several months.

Jenny, your friend Patti is in my thoughts and prayers today as she goes through the surgery.

JaneS, I hope things will soon be back to normal with your granddaughter.

Good morning, halkel.  Still no rain here, but it sure is hot and humid.  I'll join you in the breakfast area for coffee.

Larry--Good morning.  Hoses sure aren't made like they used to be.  I've had heavy duty ones and they sprung leaks--so I gave up on hoses.  I had a couple peaches from Publix and they were tasteless.

Calling for extra prayers for my oldest grandson's wife/baby, Dr had her go in a day early for C-section, not sure why but she had been having problems with circulation in her legs and the baby a shortage of oxygen.  This is their 3rd but first by C-section, so a little un-nerved about it.

EDIT: Just got a call from my son & wife that are taking care of the other kids... "Kate Elizabeth" has arrived, healthy and all's well. 7 lbs. something.  Thank God for all of us, please!

Hal, we got humidity so I'll "raise you one".... bring on winter!

Extra prayer for June... and hope Jackie is just running a little late this morning.

Got some clothes in the washer, been holding off to do laundry at night because of the need of so much power with the temps this high..... hope to get this first load dry before it gets too hot..... will wait on more loads after it cools a bit tonight.

Gloria, with all my whining about summer, we need to think back when we didn't hate it so much.  Remember going peach or apple picking?  My kids thought that was the most fun, one orchard had big "hay wagon" types they pulled with tractors & would take people out to the trees they wanted picked that day.  They invited people to eat all they wanted (but not waste)... Took my sister & family out one time... 40+ years ago when our kids were early teens... they still talk about how fun.  So far no local grown produce.... didn't get to the Farmer's Market last Sat with the AC people coming.  Tell your son I am impressed that he came to take you out for ice cream!  What a good kid!  "You did something right along the way," right?    :smitten:

Larry, my husband bought those "lifetime" rubber hoses from Sears... have at least half a dozen connected to faucets all around the house.  They are heavy but as long as there is a Sears, they will replace them.  Actually, he has 3 50' ones on a rolling cart that he used for hosing down the AC & would reach a dry spot missed by the sprinkler system. I am mentally counting 4 more besides the cart.

Jane, when I go back to my home town I never see anyone I know except a niece that I call.  Quite a few of my classmates remained there but most are dead or could be we just don't recognize each other?  I am going for a luncheon in a few months & plan to buy some name tags to stick on everyone ... with their long ago nicknames!  Going from blue-black hair to glow in the dark white, can't blame people for not recognizing me.

Better get rolling, that load of clothes won't pop itself into the dryer.   :dogrunning:    5 gr-grands so far.....

Good Morning,

Beauty operator had a business "thing" this morning so my standing appointment was moved to this afternoon.  That means I'm here while the housecleaner is - so I'm "helping" by staying out of the way.

Shirley,  Congratulations on the new Great-Grand.  I love the name Kate Elizabeth.

We had heavy rain with some lightning and thunder overnight.   Everything looks bright and green this morning but, of course, it's now not only hot - it's "sticky-humid".  More rain predicted off and on for the rest of the week.  We need it.

My high school class always had more fun than anyone else at our reunions.  Maybe that's because we were such an ornery bunch that the tales we had to tell were fun to remember. ;D
At our 50th, the very young newspaper reporter (small town - just one!) was so enthralled by all these "oldsters" romping around that he followed us at every event.
Even though there are very few "locals" and the others aren't able to travel much any more,  quite a few of us still keep in touch.

Now that I can't go for walks around the neighborhood,  I haven't met most of the ones who have moved in over the past couple of years.  I miss that.

Just had a call that the study books for my church Circle are in.  I'll add to my "staying out of the way" help by going to get mine now.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Shirley--I thank God that Kate Elizabeth arrived and all is well.  I've never been to one of my high school or college reunions--always too far to travel--around 2,000 miles.

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for the links to your trip today.  That place looks lovely, and I am sure Benji enjoyed it.

halkel--I have no greats and doubt I will in my lifetime.  My two oldest grands are 27 and 28 but too busy with their careers to marry.

Callie--Sure wish we'd get some of the heavy rain.

I sent June's "daughter in love" an email, but haven't heard back yet.

Photopeach clip to Cogden Beach but more for hikers as also the sea looks near it is quite a far walk away, too far for me to do.....Guess from the car-park I made a short walk to a turnoff where there was a bench that I rested on, in-fact that bench done me a favour as a couple were walking back and I stopped to chat to them and asked of a beach cafe sign we passed a few miles before we reached here if dogs were allowed, only to be told no but, a short distance further we come to a nearer beach that will allow dogs, although we have to walk up a way where dogs are allowed away from the main front of beach.....I shall post that beach entrance as soon as I sort my photos out and dwindle them down....Link......

I am running hard to get in here and apologize. I was SURE I had posted yesterday morning..must have been in another world. I am not ill, at least no more that the usual which is acceptable, as most of us do. I did really get just to tired to post last night Had a long letter to write, and was rejoicing knowing that my Dori would be here on Thursday performing a skit for us, while at the same time my Gary will be doing something with the gentlemen in another area. We are having what they titled a Womens and Mens Retreat....separately. Some of us feel it is unfair as many men want to see Dori and some of our ladies are interested in what Gary has planned. But we were not consulted, darn. My morning was taken up with signing up for what is called Camp Week at Rowntree Gardens. We are having special games and programs every day of this week.

I have joined the Community Members Association here at Rowntree, and there monthly meeting is at two P.M., so I have to cancel my writing class, which occurs at the same time, and depending how long this meeting lasts, I may have to cancel the Balance and Mobility class. The C.M.A. only meets once a month so I feel obligated to be there. I'm interested to find what it all entails too.

Now I have to scoot and get ready for a ten a.m. jewelry making class. Puff...Puff...rush...rush... June

Good morning.

Having a quiet morning and waiting to hear about how things are going with Patti.

Anxious to hear any news about June, JOAN. Thank you for today's goodies.  I have been reading a book...THE RAINBOW COMES and GOES.  Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt.

JACKIE, nice to read about your outing with Benji... So happy to know you can mark that off of your list.

SHIRLEY, congrats on the safe arrival of GGranddaughter, Kate Eluzabeth.  My best to the entire family.

We made airline reservation to fly to Phoenix next week.l to see my dad.  It was a window of opportunity, and we all know we must take advantage of things when we can.  I have not told him yet... Tried to this morning, but Diane's 16 year old granddaughter is getting her tonsils out today and she was talking to her daughter.  Will call them later.

Just talked to our Austin son and they finally had rain yesterday after a very long and dry spell.  He said it poured and they got over 2 1/2 inches.

My best to you ALL today, and again I thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Patti.

Good afternoon, not even gone to mention the weather.  Which stays the same.  We did get a little rain last night, but nothing like the warnings they kept send on the TV.

Jackie, I know Benji enjoyed his outing. He is a lucky dog to have such a careing person, as his owner.

June, glad to see you posting.  We do worry about you.  Remember when your breathing gets bad  Smell the garden and blow out the candle.  thats what they kept telling me in the hospital.

Thanks, Jackie, for the welcome to Kate Elizabeth.... and I am happy for you that you got to keep your promise to get those paws (and yours) in the sand.  Beautiful place.  We never got to a beach during out time in England, amazing and sorry I missed that spot!

I bow to your numbers, Hal, I also have "one due in Nov".....but don't think I can catch up with you.  I have 4 grands not married yet so "watch my smoke"~

Callie, I love hearing about your old classmates, y'all have really done a good job of keeping up with each other.  I think we had 300 & some in our graduating class, 7 grade schools combined in one Jr Hi-Hi School so made big classes.  Most of the ones I knew from first grade on have died or don't go anywhere any more.  I miss "catching up" with them now & then.  I also like the old fashioned names.

Joan, sorry you never got to one of your class reunions, my husband didn't either, until his 49th or 50th... and discovered it was nice to see them.  He went to more as years past... about a thousand miles one way.  I think it gave him satisfaction that he made the choices he did, about leaving and finding a new life.  I enjoy going back and finding how loving and caring my class was.  Like Callie, we have so many wild tales to tell and delight in reminding each other.

AhHa!  There's our social butterfly, MS June!   Just keeping busy, huh?

Thanks, Jenny & Linedancer....  I agree with you about taking advantage of any chance to visit loved ones. Safe trip.  Hope Patti and Diane's gr-daughter are okay.  Is the book good?  I think he is a neat person & both had lives I wouldn't envy.  Money doesn't hold a candle to love.
**********
Okay, got this today & was giggling to myself... don't suppose ANY of you have had those "non-speaking" arguments during our long married lives... I never would have thought of this come-back but wish I had.

The Silent Treatment

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.
Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:0 0 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM."   He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed.

The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.' (Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.)

Shirley, your new baby has been named for my grandmother.  She was actually Catherine Elizabeth but no one ever called her anything but Kate.  My daughter Cathy is actually named for her also.  And my granddaughter is Frances Elizabeth (called Frankie).  In effect, Gramma was Kate Elizabeth and I actually heard my great aunt (her sister, call her that when she was staying with us.  I'll save a special place in my heart for your Kate Elizabeth.

Cogden Beach and restaurant and loos......

At last I found some sand, a tad on the pebbly side, had pebbles inside my sandals which hurt like crazy, but heaven when I took them off.....The dogs did not go in the sea, the sea was a tad on the choppy side but R also said the tide was washing up tiny fish, he was worried the dogs might try to eat them.....as if.... ;D....Link to Photopeach clip.....Oh and that's me scoffing my face at the end...although saying that I am a slow eater compared to R, he had finished way before me...the salad and crab sandwiches were brought out on a wooden platter, not a plate....All in all quite a bit of walking between the two separate beaches, I did have a lot of trouble, kept stopping and starting, got quite disorientated, took my walking very slowly, wobbly and with my usual dizziness, but as often, I tend to force myself....Link......

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for the links and slideshows.  Lovely place to go.

June--So good to see your post.  We were afraid either your computer or you were sick.  Glad to know it was just your activities that were keeping you busy.

Jenny--I continue to pray for Patti.  How nice that you can go visit your Dad next week.

Linedancer--Seems many the age of our grands are waiting until they are older to marry.

Shirley--I won't get to go to any reunions now.  I have too much medical "gear" to even consider traveling.

Janie--I can understand why you are fond of the names Kate and Elizabeth.

Jane, my son didn't know if Kate was spelled with a C or K.... we are guessing so far.  My daughter is named for my father & mother with a hyphen and middle name of Beth that we planned to call her.  Not sure if this Mom & Dad realized but it doesn't make any difference, C or K and Elizabeth or Beth.... I will always think of your gr-mother now.... and I do like the name!  Thanks!

Joan, I gave up on my dream of spending months seeing the wilderness of Alaska, know it won't happen now.  A little sad about it but I find other things to enjoy instead, as I'm sure you have done.  You have a good life, that move worked out for you, seemed like you did that pretty fast.

Jackie, loved seeing your latest venture... never thought about the coast when we lived in England but think you have found a wonderful place to live with so many nice areas to have day visits.  Both pups looked like they were enjoying the day as did you & Richard.  As I meant to say on the site, "thanks for taking us along".. a typo in there & no way to correct.   :booboo:

Got to get out in the heat & get me a loaf of bread.... the white/buttery kind.  I always eat oatnut as well as white & am so set in my ways some things just call for white & I ran out!  Gives me an excuse to pick up something for "lupper", as my neighbor calls my mid-afternoon meals.

Where's Mary Ann?  Have I just missed her posts?  My brain has not been working on in full mode this week, too many different things to think about at once.  Hope she is okay.

Shirley, I've been mostly lurking, but I have posted, just don't know when.  I haven't been doing much.

It's been warm here, too, maybe not so hot as Kansas, but we've had the a/c on almost daily.  I hate to think of my electric bills.  I did just get one for $66 but that started before the a/c/ was necessary.

I think I'm over my nose-bleed problem, but I treat the right nostril very gingerly.  It could happen again and I don't want a repeat.

Jackie.  That beach looks nice but doesn't the hot sand bother you. You were looking quite hot and feet swollen. It is good that you are trying so hard to do things that I would think are hard for you to do.
Having two friends close to me with MS . I see how things are and what they feel more comfy doing. Water retention and swelling is one thing that their Dr. watches very  close. One has to go in the hospital these days for a couple days at a time because we are having such hot weather. Bothering both of them

We all admire how you are keeping up . Try not to over do.

Shirley, one more thing we have in common...

When I was camping with my kids one time the meals were often off schedule.  One afternoon, my son sat down at the picnic table and said "OK, is this dunch or lupper?"  We've used those two words for a late meal ever since.

Jackie, I loved the beach.  I remember the pebbles at Brighton.  We took the train down there from London when we were in England.  I loved the shore and the village but I don't think I'd like to sunbathe on that beach.  It was pretty but very difficult to walk on.  It was too cold for swimming but we took off our shoes and waded just so we could say we did.

I'm going to take Frankie to the phone store.  Her phone died and I want mine back.  Not looking forward to being out in the sun again.

Jeanne P, two or three things I suffer with very bad is swollen feet, tightness, ( oedema - edema, not sure of correct spelling, ) painful burning toes, which absolutley drive me crazy and my everyday bloated stomach, ( not food related. ) Don't know whether bloated stomach is to do with my urinary bleed or my MS......Our today weather wasn't hot, just right for me and the dogs....it even clouded over a tad dark while we were eating, thought we was due a shower but it brightened up as we reached home.....Yes my MS and balance gives me problems, I have to hang onto Rs shirtsleeves, my legs become heavy yet weak, my lower stomach, waist, hips give me so much trouble, a heaviness....and my head plays up....I am due my GP appointment Thursday, re, my urinary bleed SCAN, for some strange reason I have been fearing the worst, just hope I am completely wrong but I know something has been going on..and for some time.....Again the top of my right leg - groin area I have always assumed it was linked to my MS, at least when my leg comes alive I know it is but my top of leg groin also has another sensation that I am sure is linked to my bleed......

Oh almost forgot, the sand wasn't hot.... ;)

Jackie.  Glad my post did not upset you. Just that I feel that you need some help now making things easy for you. With all the help my friends get I know it is still hard for them to try to do things they always enjoyed.
Your little dog seems to be getting along just fine. That is great. I know that was a big worry for you also.
Hope your testing goes well on the bleeding problem. They sure let it go on to long over there. Again surprised as I had a little one last time over and they really went all out and it only lasted 24 hours. But I never thought was suppose to do any there after a certain age. (49 for me)  Just insist they find the problem soon and not keep making you appointments.  It may cost us more over here for health but I just have to know things right away as to what causes what. My Doctors  of the past 30 years seem to be dying off now and some of the young taking their place are different. Think they can explain things in a 15 min. Appt. I just keep talking and guess they can't just push me out the door.  But they love my accent. Guess they think we are a little more pushy.Which I am...

Shirley--The move worked out fairly well.  However, now that Linda and Ed sold their house here and moved to Fairhope, AL (where Joe etc. live) I am feeling a bit abandoned.

Mary Ann--I don't blame you for not wanting another nosebleed.  My a/c bill runs about $150/mo. but we have weather that requires it running continually for months, as you know.

Janie--I like the words "dunch and lupper".  Hope Frankie was able to get a phone.

JeanneP--MS doesn't affect any two people in exactly the same way.  I have a dear friend who has had it since she was 25 and she is now 75.  She has to wear braces on her legs.  She just finished painting their entire house all by herself.  She cares for her husband who has Alzheimers.

Vanilla-Jackie--I hope you can get some relief from the things you suffer with.

Jeanne P, all I have ever gotten when being diagnosed with something, when I have asked, " what can be done about it... " is, a flick of the hand, and that word of..." nothing..."...I am not referring to my MS as I know no cure for that, but, my supposedly Raynauds, my Meralgia Pareasthetica, my good leg Osteoartritis, think the knee, which have as good as all been ruled out by me now as misdiagnoses....

We know Benjis kidneys are deteriorating and we know his anal lump is growing but, so far so good, he doesn't seem to be aware of this yet....As for our youngest, well Toby is Toby....and we have promised him to Joan.. ;D

Yep, Jane, we do seem to have a lot in common!  Think you are way more organized than I am, my excuse is I spent 59 years doing what I was told... :crazy2:   (and if you believe that, I've got a bridge..........)

Good to see you, Mary Ann.  Those awful bloody noses is one of the side effects of anemia that runs through my family.  I remember going into a hospital room to visit my father's brother & the nurse was telling him that "if you had been taking your iron and calcium you wouldn't be in here with your nose packed".  That was the first time I realized it was serious.  My youngest son would get them "out of the blue" but a few iron & bone meal pills and he would go for months without any trouble.  I was always afraid of giving or taking too much iron.  The doctor discovered the problem when I was pregnant with my oldest son... tried 8 types of iron before finding one that didn't double me over in pain.  I take them off & on, can tell by my eyes being weaker when in need.  Hope you figure yours out.

Joan, did you have to "buy" into your place (like some here)?  No reason you can't move if you want to, may find something you like even better.... do they have better weather?  You know the saying... "you can do what you want, you're not married to that place!"  Might be worth a visit to have a look around.  I know we can't follow our kids around but nice when they are close enough to stop by for a cup of coffee.... or when they have something special (like parties for that little red head).  Make yourself happy... Your choice!

I don't do the average monthly gas or electric & am pleased when my electric is no more than $150 during the summer months.  My AC has been running non-stop (okay, except for that 36 hours) since spring.  I hate being closed in, but hate the heat even more.  A few years ago the electric bills were over $200 & usually a month or so of $300+ during the summer.  Not sure why it's less, maybe partly because I've been putting in LED lights when one goes out.  The ones used most are LEDs now.

Jackie, my poor little old LaurenKat feels like a cotton ball she is so tiny.  I feed her whatever she wants (and she lets me know what she doesn't want, will turn up her nose & walk off).  I quit trying to make her eat what she should.... and give her what she wants.  I won't put her through the nightmare of going to a vet, at her age & still be so terrified of everyone but me, I'll only take her when I think she is in pain, to end the pain. I am so glad your Benji is having good days and making happy memories for you.

Haven't been down to the river yet, really humid tonight.  Fed all the cats & would love a nap but afraid I'd sleep until dark... the fish were so happy to see my bread last night they nearly popped out of the water!  They come right to my feet so no chance of tossing bread & having time to get the camera ready, they catch it as it falls & give a flap of their tails in appreciation.  Big wide mouth catfish, whiskers & all.  If I could just convince those mosquitoes my body is not for eating.... they are wicked!!!  Good night, all..........Shirley

Shirley, I think my nose bleed was caused by taking a blood thinner.  I have not been told I am anemic.  I think I started things by blowing my nose, then sticking my finger in that nostril and hitting a "bump"  and dislodging it.  I try to leave that nostril alone if possible.  I lost a lot of blood and was quite weak when I got home.

Did you read where the cat was left outside overnight?  Tom left the hospital at midnight and let the cat out on the deck when he got home.  Then forgot about the cat.  Terry's wife brought me home about 2:30 am or so and I did not notice him on the deck.  I am sure he was at the window meowing but the slider was closed.  Tom turned on his light when he got up that morning and evidently the cat jumped from the deck (upper level) to the ground to under Tom's window where Tom heard him.  Tom said Kendrick was one very unhappy cat!  He's none the worse for wear.

Kendrick has just come in here to let me know it's bed time (10 pm +-) so I'll put this to bed and go to bed myself.

I have had another too busy day, so very weary tonight, but content. I was able to attend all three of my programs, even though they over-lapped. I dropped into the writing class just as they were wrapping it up, only to find that my post was a winner. We were to chose a word and write sentences on that word. Sentences could be lengthy if needed. Our Instructor urged me to post it in our monthly magazine.

Gloria de, thank you for you kind words dear, I appreciate you. I do smell the rose and blow out the Pollen every morning. It is part of my physical exercisesl. I am not always feeling breathless, it just comes on suddenly some times during the day, just like the feeling of fainting… out of the blue I am hanging on to something, and taking deep breaths. Probably due to my 56 years of smoking. Have finished with that addiction for15 years now, but the damage must still be there.

Mycheal, you are kind, and I so appreciate you post. You should come in and gab with us more often, but I am glad you do keep up with us by reading. I pray all is going well with you my friend. It seems that Iowa has missed a lot of the bad weather other states are having. You are fortunate indeed.

Tomorrow is going to be another busy day, as is Thursday. My son will be teaching Bible class at 10 a.m. in our Chapel and I intend to be there. He is so well liked here....everywhere for that matter.

Bis, I was thinking the same thing about you Sis moving near your son. I am sure you do not want to go through that chore again, but it will be rather distant for them to travel frequently. I am so glad I made the move to be near Dori and Gary, and if they left the area, I would not leave here. I am too well cared for here and far to old to make changes. Gary assured  me  that they would not move. He has his Church here and they just did a big remodel on their home. But I would not try to keep them here if they eventually wanted to move on. I could not ask for more than what I have right here.

And now it is time to close down and get ready for an early bedtime.

June, what a relief to see you in here posting.  We were all concerned not having you post, for that matter any of our cyber friends not posting is cause for concern.

Well, my wife now has a new car.  Boy what an ordeal.  We had a 11:30 appointment and the salesman was late, about 30 minutes.  And it was hurry up and wait all afternoon.  We got out of there about 6. But wife got the color and interior she wanted and I got the lease payments I wanted.  Meant standing firm on some things and it worked.  But it is going to be learning project learning all the new features.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvqk88X6vow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvqk88X6vow)

Anyhow, I am worn out so Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Food For Thought

Embracing Life Changes

Scripture Reading: CHANGE AGENT

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7
This is an election year in the United States. The presidential campaign has been interesting because the fight to become the top candidate has been intense in both major parties.
No matter what country we live in, there are always high hopes when a new person enters public office, because there is the possibility for change. During a campaign, voters try to judge which candidate is more qualified and promising because they pin their hopes on electing a change agent.
The prophet Samuel had the same attitude. He thought that Jesse’s big, tall son Eliab would be the one chosen as the next king of Israel. But he was totally off the mark, because having a willingness to follow the Lord was much more important than any other qualities.
As Christian voters, do we consider whether a candidate is a person seeking after the Lord’s heart? Do we vote only with regard to whether a candidate is likable, or can make our economy stronger, or can make our lives safer? These may be important considerations, but they are not the most important. As Proverbs 21:1 puts it, “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.” The agent can bring change for the better only if the agent is being changed by the Lord.
Heavenly Father, help us to look beyond the super¬ficial, both in ourselves and in others, to see the qualities that are important to you. In your Son’s name, Amen.

Thought of the Day

We have our tasks to carry out today, and we plan to do them to the best of our ability.  As you go through your own day, focus on what has to be done today, do it well, and do not worry about what tomorrow may bring.”

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and also to you Junee but I bet it's not morning where you are.

Good sleeping weather again last night.  It was 71 when I went to bed and 64 when I got up.  We're heading for a high of 90 by mid-afternoon.  It will get into the 80s this morning.  This isn't too bad.

I'll be off to Wally World later today and I'd like to do a bit of "hunting and gathering" on the way home but we'll see how busy the store is and how tired I am at the end of my shift.  Today is senior citizen day at the Farm Stand and I'd really like to go over there.  But they are open until 5 so I can come home and rest a bit and then go over there.  We'll see.  More and more these days I just take the day as it opens up.

Make it a good one Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone..

53° at the moment but I am sure we will soon fry once the sun takes hold.

Not a lot on the agenda today, will pick up peppers and onions to make zucchini pickles and start that.

Hi Junne,

Hal, that is one nice looking vehicle!!

Jane, have a great day at work.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  You're having some nice weather for sleeping.  Wish there was a Farmer's Market around here where I could get some really fresh items.

Amy--Good morning.  The only time we have 53° is in the winter.  I've never had zucchini pickles.  I am sure the ones you make are yummy.

halkel--I meant to tell you that vehicle sure is nice looking.  That color in the video is about the color of my car.

I'm going to get out early and do some errands.  It won't be cool, but at least it won't be the heat of the day.

Hi everyone.  Today will be a repeat of yesterday and the last several days.  The daily chores are done.  As of this moment Pat is planning on attending her crafts group this morning.  I will drive her, take care of errands at the Credit Union and the Post Office and then go have coffee with my friends at the cafe.  Scott's schedule changed because his boss is on vacation so he has to work until 4 pm but plans on coming out to have dinner with us.  That will be out day.  We did get to COSTCO yesterday morning.

Shirley, congratulations on the new Great Granddaughter. Glad all went well.  I sounds like I need to get my garden hose from Sears.  I remember my Dad always tried to buy Craftsmen tools.  I only have two outside water spigots but the 50 feet hose is all I need.

Jackie, I enjoyed your pictures and glad you could have an enjoyable day out and let the dogs walk on the beach and it looks like they enjoyed it.

Joan, I think I didn't remember that Linda and Ed had moved away from you.

Shirley, I just about fell out of my chair when I read your sentence about "doing what you were told for 59 years".  That image just doesn't compute.  :)  Currently our electric bill is on the budget plan at $219/month.  Considering this is an all electric home I feel that is very reasonable.

June, congratulations on your writing.  You are a very articulate writer so I am not surprised.

Hal, that was a long ordeal at the car dealership and expect you are relieved that it is over.  I hope you will be sitting down when you call the insurance company.

It's about 70 degrees now at nearly 9 am and supposed to go to the upper 80s today.  I can take that as long as I can stay inside!

Hal, I like the color of your car.  One of my favorite cars was that color - my 1985 Plymouth Duster.  I like red cars but had to settle for Royal Blue with my 2003 Chevy Cavalier - my last car.  I liked that color too.

Tom has a silver 2006 Camry (Norm has probably turned over in his grave) and when parked, doesn't look any different than any other white, silver or light color car.  At least with my cars you could look for a definite color.  Norm was adamant about family buying cars with American names; the fact that most parts were foreign made didn't both him, he wanted us to have Ford, Chevy or Chrysler brands.

Tom has left for breakfast, then this afternoon the family (seven of us) will go to The Score again for lunch.  I loved their Fish and Chips so may have that again.  The fish are breaded then deep fried and the last time were hot when I was served.  I loved them.

JOAN  That son surprised me, he lives closer but I do not see him often. The other one come here every week.

SHIRLEY  glad things worked out good for you granddaughter in law  and great-granddaughter. Like you I say 'BRING ON WINTER”. I have not been doing the walking I usually do and boy I think my back knows it. Yes but for me apple picking is in September and by then it is cooling off.

JUNE  glad you are OK.

GLORIA de  this area got not a drop of rain.

JOAN  I will enjoy that bear claw. Have not had one in ages. Love the chuckles. Good quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Have to get moving. My CNA will be here soon so I better get my breakfast.

Mary Ann, the new car is not red but a lite brown, and not really a brown, I couldn't find a picture of one the same color.  But the wife wanted a light colored interior and that was the only one with it.  I like to color and she does too.

Larry, I just got off phone with insurance company and surprisingly the cost is only 195 dollars more a year for the new car.  And my present policy expires tomorrow, she didn't tell me what they were going to charge for the two days (today and tomorrow).  But AAA is quite reasonable here in Texas.  And they write for the year not six months like a lot of insurance companies.

Gloria, I am unhappy with my computer too.  I got a W-7 because when I downloaded W-10, it goofed up my other W-7.  The font goes up and/or down, I'll be ready to sign off on a post and it disappears into thin air.  I told Tom that computing is no longer fun.  I am considering going to Best Buy and buy a W-10 computer.  I need another computer like I need another hole in my head, but enough is enough.  I keep getting a message about downloading W-10 and I think as it already goofed up two computers, I'm not going to mess this one up any further.  I'm just rattling off at the top of my head, but I think I've had it!

At 10:45 its over 80 degrees already.  I showered and washed my hair earlier so it is about time I get dressed before we go OTL.

Hal, even though that is not the color of your new car, it sure is pretty.  I see many cars that color, in fact, it is the color of Dot's car and I think it is the same model only she bought hers used, so is an older model; I don't remember the year, but it's recent.

Good morning from another sunny Interior, rare these days. Farrah is up on the table, watching out the window, guarding against all attempted intrusions, which she prefers to mastermind while stationed under the bed!

Jackie, I too enjoyed these and had enjoyed your other views of your area. England, or at least your portion of it, looks to be an inviting place to live and enjoy.

MaryAnn, Michigan is another place I'd like to see. Unfortunately while traveling with my then husband, he had a practice of setting a prescribed daily mileage and wasn't one for side trips.

Hal, a very nice looking car, whatever color it is. Both of my husbands were from Kentucky, different parts of it and both preferred trucks, the bigger, the better. I think it's a Southern boy ideal or was.

Joan, I enjoyed your morning chuckles. I have such odd feet, with a very high arch, that I tend to buy one of each color when I find a shoe that fits!

I have one addition that I frequently used back in the day, "I shaved my legs for this?" My boss at Sears had another about the "circus coming to town," on trying days.

Today is a difficult day for me as I must pay bills and other irksome duties.

Everyone, have a good day!

Another Good Morning from Stanton, Ca. Our high temp for today is to be 90 degrees. Too warm for my liking but better than Hemet where I came from..105 for them. My Eastern blinds are tightly closed, and I hear my neighbors A/C running already.

Today is Bible Class led by my beloved son, there will be games at 1 p.m. followed by root beer floats, so in between times I hope to catch up on paper work at home. I have too many scraps of to-do papers scattered around my desk, and four days of meds to box up. I don't like to let too many days of that pile up as it gets to be mind-boggling for this ancient brain. For a small fee I could have it done for me, but I want to be in control of some things as long as possible.

Hal, that's a mighty snazzy looking car your wife is getting. With all the new bells and whistles they have now, I'm thankful I no longer drive. I had trouble with my Oldsmobile years back. Driving along and also something would go "ding, ding, ding." Telling me I had not turned off my turn signal light.

Junee, I wish you a Goodnight as we start another day. I hope you have good sleeping weather down there. Hugs and prayers for you.

Larry, thank you for the compliment on my writing, I really enjoy doing it, and words have a fascination for me in my later years.  With the computer it is so easy to just type away and let the thoughts pour out.

Gloria, my computer is getting more and more slow in filling, but then so am I, so I will keep it till it dies. I don't have the patience or intelligence to learn anything new.

Time to get the day started, so will see you all later. June

Hal.  I have been looking at that same car. Also thinking about just leasing. Can get it here for $194. If I thought the bank were going to put the interest on our money up. I would go that way.  Hate signing a big cheque.   Also I called my insurance. Price they want . Unbelievable. Because of age I suppose . I don't put many miles on cars . If I figure it out I could rent a car in the times I need to go out of State. Keep mine that I only pay $297 a month insurance now. Be money ahead.  Just my kids keep on me for keeping the car I have for so long. These Honda Accords are good cars.

Hal, I have driven an Escape for nearly 6 years and it has been a good car for me.  Hope you and your wife have good luck with yours, too.  It is big enough to carry my walker and many bags of groceries in the back but still small enough to maneuver easily in traffic.

Mary Ann, if our temps were in the 80's today I would be doing a happy dance.  I guess weather is just what you are used to in your area.  80s in North Carolina would be heaven.  We are in upper 90's today with humidity in upper 50's near 60%.  That will give us a "real feel" of 112 today.  I'm not going anywhere!

Cabin Fever got to me yesterday so we went out to a new restaurant near us.  It wasn't good so I can't imagine it will stick around too long.  There are too many restaurants of good quality and less expensive around our town now.  Competition is stiff.

Lunch time, but I'm not hungry.  Think I'll have a half of a tomato and mayo sandwich and a glass of ice water and then a nice nap in the recliner.  Life is so exciting.

Good day to EVERYFRIEND.

Talked to Patti....she was surprised when she talked to her surgeon to find out he needed t do a lot more while he was in there than he expected....but everything turned out well.  She will stay at the hospital until Friday.  She has been nausus and had a bad headache so doc took her off of Diludid and put her
on Morphine. I told her the thought of
Morphine scares me to death as I have heard some really bad reaction associated with morphine.

Diane's granddaughter is doing ok, just the normal issues dealing with a tonsillectomy and adnoids.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Lost the rest of my post so will be back when I have more time.

I just checked our temperature on the computer (Weather Channel icon) and we are at 87 degrees at 345 pm.  I don't know how humid it is, but because we're only 35 miles from Lake Michigan, we often do have high humidity.  Phyllis, you may have similar conditions because of the ocean.

Four of our family group had lunch at The Score, a sports bar.  We sat outside on beach sand with palm trees all around.  I understand the restaurant sends the palm trees to Meijer Gardens and they probably put them in their tropical garden.  I don't know if they get new trees each year or not but I think they get new beach sand yearly.  I had their Fish and Chips which were good but not as good as a couple of weeks ago.  Dot had Soup and Sandwich which I had last week and I enjoyed that too.  Soup was Broccoli Cheese.

Larry, better warn you that those rubber Sears/Craftsman hoses are heavy, VERY heavy.  My husband bought one of the light weight ones on TV that scrunches up to nothing when he got weaker, but didn't like it at all, gave it away.  Gr-son bought one since & said they are great!  Don't want to recommend something more trouble than it's worth.

Hal, my little Escape... don't remember the year... I picked out online & drove to the dealer & asked for that particular one, got a salesman that thought I should look at others first.  Asked if "he had that stock number because that was the only one I was interested in".  They were jumping all over the place to get my little Subaru Outback Limited & all the extras you could think of (turbo eng)... with less than 7,000 miles on it.  Almost 3 years old & I had taken it back a couple times to Subaru for loud noise on start up.  They insisted it was normal, that ended my dealings with Subaru.

Sadly, the Escape had a known flaw in it... would pause or fell like it died when power was needed.  First time I took it in the crew knew about the computer glitch & "fixed it".  Trouble was, it happened again in the middle of an intersection with cars flying off the overhead by-pass & 4 lanes of traffic each way as I took my turn entering that busy spot....world stopped & so did my heart, but lucky everyone managed to get around me without hitting.  When my husband died I decided I didn't want to keep his big Enclave & sure didn't need 2 vehicles since I already had the Rialta.... and knew my best chance of getting a good price for the Enclave (just rolled over 8,000 miles) was to take it back to the salesman we bought from.  Never been sorry, they gave me a big wad of money & this new little red Buick Encore for the Enclave & Escape.  My little Encore has never given me a single problem in the 3 years I've had it, has the turbo engine so quick as a cat and great gas mileage, & this turbo does not call for premium gas.  My sister, can't count how many nieces & nephews drive the Escapes... love them.  I was following a new one this week, admiring the style & had to look to see what it was, complete re-design since mine. Pretty cars... my father was a Ford man, don't think he ever owned anything else.   I was a Daddy's Girl so stuck with Fords except for a Cadillac Sedan deVille & Cas ordered a DTS shortly after Dad died. That deVille was comfy when the kids were little & we made those long trips to the east coast to visit Cas's family.

Oh, Joan, I came in here to get a nap & got on the computer instead... now it's time for a shower & wash hair, finish that big pot of spaghetti for Kate Elizabeth's daddy, brother & sister.  The kids were at day care camp all day and daddy went to work until time for the baby to come home, tomorrow, I think he gets a week off then.  Her mother is coming for a week and then my daughter will be with them for a week.  Boy, I never had such care!  Will be plenty of left overs if they need for tomorrow night, until the other Grammy shows up.  Got to get this body in gear.  Be back tonight........temp of 93 with "real feel" of 109... miserable.

Jenny--Glad Patti is doing OK.  Morphine makes me VERY nauseous.  Glad Diane's GD is OK after the T & A.

Mary Ann--I think it great that your family gets together for nice lunches.  I'll check the Grand Haven link when I am done here.

Shirley--How nice of you to make spaghetti for the new baby's family.  You're right about not having any help when I bought my babies home.  In all fairness, I'll say Ray was a great help, but neither of our families came to help.

When my second child was born, my sister happened to be in town and she took Cathy home with her while I was in the hospital recovering from a C-Section.  She brought her home the day after Cindy and I came home from the hospital.  Cathy ran in the house with a package shouting, "I made this for Cindy Lou!"  It was a little hand made nightgown and when we asked if she made it herself she said "Well, Aunt Margie helped me."

When I brought the twins home from the hospital, my grandmother was sitting in the living room waiting to hold the baby.  It sure made feeding time easier.  She fed one and I fed the other.  She also washed dishes and made beds and that was nice, too.

By the time the twins were two, my grandmother was gone but my father had retired and he appeared without warning a few times a week to "help".  I said he came to "play".  Either way, it helped.  he was my most dependable babysitter and there were many years when there were little sneaker prints all over my ceiling.  The kids admitted they did it by walking on the ceiling (with Daddy Wright's help)  Thanks to him, they had a fun childhood.  And I had so relaxing times.

It's almost time for JAG and then bedtime.  Tomorrow is another work day.  Hope you all had a good day!

Mycheal, thanks, my wife really likes it.
Shirley, my wife fell in love with the car when she saw it, just didn't like the dark interior of the one she drove.  The bargaining turn out okay but to begin with they didn't want to give me very much for my trade-in  He offered 500 dollars, yeah, that isn't a typo.  And the monthly lease was way out of line, I told him no way was I trading like that.  He went to his sales manager and he came up and I told him in no uncertain times I wasn't even going to discuss his figures.  I then told him let me give you a little background.  I explained the age of myself and wife and that I had no intention of leaving her a lease payment she couldn't handle if something happen to me.  He ask what I was looking for and I gave him what I wanted to pay monthly and zippo, changeo my trade-in suddenly became worth much more and the payment magically became exactly what I wanted.  I told him when he came back the first time with the salesguy that I was going to walk and in fact got up and started toward the door.  My wife was in panicville.  My Son-in-law had a big smile and afterward told me, he thought no way could they meet my terms on the car in question.  But they did,
then this morning I was going through my paperwork and found the title to my old car.  They forgot to keep it, so I called the salesguy and left him a message I had it and would bring it down on Thursday, but he called back and said he would come to the house a pick it up, which he did.

Any old how, I am still tired from yesterday and fixing to hit the sack.  I have bible study in the morning, looking forward to it.  I watched a video today of my Grandson if anyone cares to watch it click on the following link:

Look what the cat dragged in....me. I am weary, again, but it was a good day. Had my monthly visit with Dr. Le. I really like her, and she treats me like I have a brain in my head. Showed me the results of last months blood tests, said to keep doing what I am doing. I have lost three more lbs. down to 109. Lowest I have ever been in my adult life. She was not alarmed so I am not either.

Tomorrow is going to be a special day for me. My d.i.l is going to perform one of her skits for us after she joins us for lunch. I can hardly wait to see her perform. I am so proud of her. When I first met her she was so shy, but how she has developed as she grew in assurance. She travels all over putting on these religious comical skits, always ending in a good biblical lesson. Her husband, my son Gary, was here today giving us a blble lesson. He too is very popular in his teaching. I feel extremely blessed to have them in my life.

Micheal, I am glad to see you again today. You are a special friend and always an asset to our group.

Hal, I'm glad you got your way with the car arrangements, and I pray your wife enjoys it for years to come.

Time for me to close down and put this person to bed. I am tired. May God grant you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers, always. June

CHUCKLES

The Bacon Tree

A group of early settlers heading West got off the Oregon Trail and found themselves lost and running out of supplies. One evening, they camped near a stream, and as it became darker, they saw a campfire a little way up the hill on the same stream.

The next morning, they headed out to see who was there. They found a small cave and an old Rabi had made his home there.

"We're lost and hungry, can you help us?"

He thought a moment, then said, "I have very little and can only share the water in this stream, and I know only that there's a Bacon Tree about a mile West of here along the stream."

They couldn't pack up and roll out fast enough, the thought of BACON filled their minds. As they went through a small narrow gorge, they were accosted by a band of Walla Walla Indians who were not happy to see them and would have robbed them if they had anything of value.

Beaten up and nursing a few wounds, they got out, but the leader of the group went back to the old Rabi with several men, all of them angry. "You said there was a Bacon Tree, and all we found was an Ambush by angry Indians!"

The Rabi thought a moment, adjusted his little round glasses, looked up and said. "Oy Vey! Ham Bush, Bacon Tree, who knew?"

Food For Thought

Only Jesus Saves
(by Patricia Clement)

I am no great writer or pastor, but I felt that I needed to share with you about how the Lord Jesus ministered to me about my brother.

I went to Michigan to visit my brother who had just had his voice box removed; he has cancer of the lungs. My brother and I have always been the best of friends. We drank together, smoked together and did drugs together. If you messed with him, you had to fight me, and vice-versa. But when I accepted Jesus into my heart, my brother could not stand the sight of me for more than two minutes without trying to start a fight. He finally stopped talking to me for about two years, but I never stopped praying for him because I love him so.

When I was in Michigan I wanted so bad for my brother to turn to the Lord, but God in His wisdom stopped me from pushing any further. When I was praying one morning I was given John 4:42:

"They said to the woman, 'We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.'" - John 4:42 (NIV)

As many times as I had read the story of the woman at the well, I had missed that truth. My brother knew the life I had lived and he also had witnessed the "new creature" that I had become. I did not need to continue to push Jesus at him. The Lord told me to just love him and He would take care of the rest. The woman at the well had testified to the people about who Jesus was, but it was what Jesus said to them and how He touched their hearts that made the difference.

Love your family and keep praying for them, but please remember: only Jesus saves.

Thought of the Day

"We can't save ourselves by pulling on our bootstraps, even when the bootstraps are made of the finest religious leather."

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another 100 degree day here with no rain in sight.  I woke up at 4 am and could never go back to sleep.  The normal morning chores are done and the trash bin is at the street.

Today I will pick up my friend at his new living place, which is an assisted living home very close by to go to coffee.  Our Minister is on a well earned weeks vacation.  His wife insisted they go out of the country and she planned the trip for St. Croix. After coffee I will stop at Chick-Fil-A to pick up a good meal.  I placed the order online last evening and when I get there I just have to click on "I'm Here" and the order will be filled.  After I get my friend back to his apartment I will stop at a Dollar Store and pick up some cards that Pat needs for the Sunday School card ministry.  If I am not too tired I may make a quick stop for a couple of items at Walmart.  That will be my exciting day, at least that I know of now.

Hal, that seems very reasonable increase for your new car.  Our insurance rates here in South Carolina are very high and I pay over $300/year for my 2004 PT Cruiser.

Mary Ann and Gloria, sorry to read that you are having more computing problems.  I believe tomorrow is the last day to download Windows 10 for free.

JeanneP, I thought my car insurance was high until I read what you pay for yours on only one older car.

Shirley, thanks for the heads up on the weight of the Sears garden hoses.  I don't want a really heavy one so will pass on Sears.  I liked the scrunchy hose but now have had two of them fail just this year.

Good morning, Larry.  Sorry you had one of those nights when you woke up too early.  I didn't know you could place a Chick-Fil-A order online and pick it up like that.  I'll have to try it.  You have several things on your schedule today.

I have a doctor's appointment later this morning to get the report on last week's lab work.  I really don't relish going out in this heat--but have no choice.

Been home quite some time now, picked up my BP meds from chemist across the road, stopped off at dairy farm shop, bought a cappuccino, sat outside but drizzled with fine rain, R doesn't like water in any shape or form so reluctantly went back and sat inside the small seating area which was quite busy with others ordering foods....this is not your picturesque tea room but we have popped in here before, it is almost on our doorstep and handy for picking up pint of milk....

Female doctor done a swab test for Vaginal Vaginosis if I have got that name right,..... I must phone Monday for the swab result, she has also referred me back to Dorchester Hospital, this time to see the Gynaecologist, her intentions are for me to have a CT Scan so that they can find what is going on, seeings this bleed has been going on for so long....this appointment should come through in a fortnight....We have now ruled out a tiny lump in lower stomach, right groin side is harmless and nothing of concern....a tiny skin lump I have pointed out to others, but no one in the past has taken me as serious.....anyway GP has settled my worries and ruled that out...

We are only given a ten minute GP slot, so I mentioned at the last minute about my MS Consultant and his recommendations of one of two choices of med's..... that was as far as I could get, we had run out of time but I just had time to tell her I was declining these two med's, I need and want to keep a clear head...she said that's ok, its my choice, my preference.....Ha ha, end of conversation, time was up..... ;D

Good morning everyone, once again I had to call HP and they took the computer back to original. Now everything has to be installed again. I am so tired of this and being here now is like torture. NO not at S&F but the PC in general. I am wondering if I should use the disks I made of the hard drive when it was running good. Lost my Cox email and contacts again. Glad I still have Gmail. Then I might make it worse if I did that. Today I have a dentist appointment and that I look forward to. Hope she can fix the partial so I can eat with it in again. 2 sharp places that hurt.

MARY ANN  I am having enough problems without downloading 10. Tried it once and got rid of it.

JUNE  the reason I bought this PC was the other one was so slow. Wish I had it back now. Wonder if I should ask my son if he is using it.

PHYLLIS  the humidity here has been up in the low 70% and that is not normal here.

JOAN  I have told you before, never say you are sorry when you are away from your PC longer than intended. You have a life away fro it like we all have. It is short so enjoy it when you can.  I was here at the PC but fighting with it once again.

SHIRLEY  when my daughter was born I was home in 3 days and had 2 little sons and her to take care of. No help from anyone.

HAL  will watch later. Have it up on new page.

JOAN  sticky buns is just what I need, something sweet and yummy to make me forget this ^(*^(&( PC.  Good chuckle. Only Jesus Saves is so true. No one likes to be preached to unless ready. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JACKIE  hope the news is good for a change.

JANE  wish it it would get down to the 60's at night. That is when the humidity really seeps in through walls.

AMY  glad the AC in the car that I will be in for a short ride has a good AC in it.

LARRY  I wonder is downloading 10 would take away most of the problems I have with this PC then I think too many new things to learn. Trying to learn the iPhone and that would be too much.

JOAN  hope you have good news on that lab work.

HAL  your grandson is a smart young man.

Good morning, Gloria.  I am really sorry you are having so much trouble with that darned PC.  I'd ask for a replacement.  Hope the dentist can fix your partial so it doesn't hurt.

halkel--Good morning.

Hal, I started to watch your grandson's video so I saw him and heard him.  Fine young man.  But when I saw the video was 38 minutes long, I clicked off it; I just don't have the patience to watch at 38 minute video - from anyone.

Gloria, my main problems with this computer involve replying on S&F and writing something in Word.  I did remove MS Word and that did not help.  To replace Word, I downloaded Open Office and what little I use it, it is OK - so far.

It is getting warm enough outside that I will turn on the a/c.

Jackie, it looks as if you may have a doctor who is interested in your problem; I hope so.

Good Morning all, I had a good nights sleep, did all my readings, exercises and massages of of legs and feet, now wondering how to find more hours in the morning. I can look out my window at 7 a.m. and see folks already gathering for breakfast at the small dining room down below. I'm lucky to come awake at that time. I did wake at six and took my thyroid pill, but then just dosed for another half hour.

Time to eat some breakfast now and get the day started. It is going to be a special day. My Dori will be doing a skit for all we ladies after lunch today. Wheeeeeee.

Good morning everyone,  Phyllis I agree with you about the weather, this is the 2nd week of 90's.  Last years here on Estern LI, we never made 90.

I have another doctor's appointment to morrow, to have stitches out of leg wound.  I went in Monday, and he could take them out, as the cut was infected.  Then yesterday went to the hematologist.  the blood count went down again, so need the Precrite shot. New rule after 3 months, Medicare has to approve it again.  So back I go on Monday for the shot.
The doctor did suggest I sign up for the Chronic Care Management. My husband had it.  Medicare has to be primary ins. You have 2 diagnoses. At my age he thought it a good idea and liveing alone.
A RN will call me once a month to discuss my health and answer any questions   It is suppose to make better communication between all   my doctors. I will try it for a few months.

Gloria, sorry about PC troubles.  I think they should just give you a new one.

Now do you have full ins. Coverage on your 2004 car? Never heard oggetting I for 25 dollars a month. $300 A year.  I just now have liability on mine because of it value.
They talk about $11 hundred on a new one.

Joan and Everyfriends...I now think our time has come that we grab what outside life and fun activities that we get a chance of, that are NOT connected to Vets, GP Surgeries and Hospital Tests and Consultations.....which just seem to be our norm nowadays....

Joan, running behind schedule is just what we need to raise our BP levels, not....

Hal, before I forget, I got to watch most of your gr-son's video & I was impressed with his sincere tone of voice.  Appreciated him not having that "accusing" tone like so many do when preaching.  Nice looking kid, does he look like you did at that age?     I stayed up doing laundry during the night so videos came in at that time.

Linedancer, scary when a sore gets infected... I don't recall hearing about Precrite shot before, so I Googled. When my daughter's SED rate was so low & the doctor finally agreed to try the iron & B-12 shot, she snapped back immediately.  She got those shots every month until the baby was born but then another doctor took over & she became anemic again.  This time she took 40mg iron tabs plus calcium that worked.  When her son was diagnosed with Crohn's disease & looked like a 6'4" starved POW... she convinced him to take the vitamins & worked for him, too. Glad you found what worked for you.

My little Encore insurance was outrageous (I thought) for a 3 year old car that gets minimum miles.... so I dropped the collision, have all the rest, still costs nearly $600 for a year (kept the comp) because I don't have multi car discount.  Do have the house with them but they don't do RVs.  It should not be so much difference when only one car. I will save in the years I don't have a claim (don't recall when I ever did) .... better make sure any accident is the other person's fault.... I've been whining about having to pay several hundred dollars more for this one car than my bill was for the 2 that I traded in since they paid me more than 12 thousand plus the new Encore to make the deal. Those 2 vehicles were much more expensive cars to repair or replace..... but insurance companies can do what they please~ I'm just a born complainer but "fair is fair".

Got to go face the heat.... several stops with the last at the grocery store for a box of ice cream bars.... I've been hitting them pretty hard lately, my comfort food. ;)  They don't have much milk in them compared with a bowl of ice cream. Chance of storms this evening, not much chance but I'll stand out in rain if we get any.

Oh, Joan, hate that "running late" excuse!  I know when they work me in it means everyone gets bumped down the line so appreciate their time but not hours.

Jackie, I've decided it is time to enjoy every day left, try for something to smile about.  Trouble with that is so much that needs to be done every day I'm running out of hours for fun.  "Worry about it tomorrow"...........

Joan, have all the vegetables cut up,onions zucchini, red and green peppers and now it sits for 6 hours. Had it judged just right that there was enough zucchini left over to make a zucchini bundt cake which is in the oven now. Will put some in the hidey hole for everyone when it is done.

Jackie, if it weren't for Dr/vet appointments we wouldn't go any where!! Already hubby has the first 3 Wed for Dr appointment and a trip to the hospital on the 22 .

Jackie and anyone else, I'd also like to eliminate car repair shops as an outing.  They always seem to hit the pocketbook pretty hard around here.  I had my car in for inspection thinking it might not cost an arm and a leg this time.  Unfortunately, I needed to replace a tire.  "Ching ching there go  the $$$.  Oh well, at least I have my wheels back and I don't feel abandoned.

Call these appointments our new " social life..."

Well I must be a glutton for punishment as I have been looking up on Youtube the sounds I can expect from a CT scan compared to the sound of the MRI scanner,...... well the sounds of the MRI scanner sure brought back horrified memories of when I went under it, two times within a few weeks........At least the sound of the CT doesn't sound as bad, nor do I suspect it is as claustrophobic.....Well the various sounds have sure frightened R off.....only now do I think he believes me when I told him the noises from the MRI were loud, very LOUD....I recognised only too well, half a dozen of those sounds, including the pneumatic drill, ( jackhammer )........ ::)

Vanilla-Jackie--Running late DOES raise my BP.  A CT scan is MUCH easier than a MRI.

Shirley--I pay a little over $600 a year to insure my car.  When I had the two cars it wasn't much more than that.

Amy--I will check the hidey hole.  Thanks!!

Janie--We don't have car inspections here, but when we lived whey they did, they always found something wrong to get more $$ from me.  Maybe this intense heat rots the tire rubber?

Good morning folks!

Gloria, I cannot repeat enough...back up and keep the back up unplugged and away from the computer and then all you do after it is fixed or you have a new computer, just plug in and click everything back within 20 minutes or less.

I have my first Medicaid or Medicare, can never remember the proper name, doctor's visit Tuesday about my lack of balance happening so randomly. I'll see who pays what on that bill.

Farrah is a happy camper now that her wet food and treats have been restored, she doesn't know those treats will be severely rationed.

I went back on Facebook so if anyone needs a friend, I am taking limited applications. I have Ardith and Adrienne, Judy Laird and Pat Scott so I'm doing well.

Jackie, I have had a few cat scans, with no issues, apprehension or anything else other than removing earrings and remembering where I stuck them afterwards.

Good morning, Joan

Well I am back home and just finished a sandwich and a glass of milk.  Took the new vehicle back to dealer to have it detailed and all the stickers removed and ask a few questions.

Shirley, good thing I remembered what you said about the engine shutting off, cause mine does to, but as soon as you push on the foot feed it is off and running, I noticed it at first traffic signal this morning and again while waiting to pick up a taco in the window lane.  I also noticed it restarted on it's own when the car begin to heat up to bring a/c on. Shirley, Brandon is a studious individual and actually has a really good sense of humor.  He gets up very early every morning and studies/reads for about 2-3 hours, most times going to a Starbucks.  His wife is a great Lady, she is the handyman of the family and can do just about anything in or around the house.  And loves doing it.  She is a real fun person to be around.  You ought to see one project she did, taking a table lamp and making a ceiling light out of it.  You know she loves working with her hands when she wants hand/power tools as gifts.  :)

Had to laugh, dealership wanted a copy of my SOC card for something, they couldn't explain why, just that the needed it for ID, I told them tough luck, I don't have a SOC in my possession and one ask couldn't I go to SOC and get a duplicate, and I said nope, I have no intention of fighting the mob at SOC office. Also told them I had furnished all kinds of ID, including copy of my retirement ID from military which showed my ID and copies of my DD 214 (needed for military discount).  Also explained to salesman that nothing requires people to carry their SOC for any purpose except employment and I hadn't seen mine for at least 40 years.  I did ask them you want a copy of my MEDICARE card it has my SOC.  Otherwise they were just out of luck.   Boy business is getting as bad as the government about paperwork.  Being ornery I am just not going to play their game.

Jackie the MRI's always remind me of a rock and roll band and I am sitting next to the drummer.  It is boring and noisy.  But at one place they talk to me while the test was going on and kept giving me how much longer and what was going on and it made things much better.

Those of you talking about car insurance and house insurance, check with your local AAA, I think you will be surprised at how inexpensive they are.

I have written a book so I will shut up.  I think I heard the couch saying something.......

No one has ever asked me for my SS card.
(But I do happen to have one handy,

My Medicare card is all I need these days
for ID, that and a drivers license or "State ID".

It is moderately hot here today on the

is not too high...  so it is comfortable.

Have a great day everyone !

I do not carry my social security card or voter's registration because it is recommended not to in case of theft. I am lucky that a polling place is in our first floor common room, and my new Medicare card is all I carry besides my state ID.

Now, many years ago, my purse was stolen in Knoxville, Tennessee. Someone attempted to use my state ID but was apprehended as they apparently didn't look even close to the redhead I was back in the day.  They never tell you more or about how these things occurred do they? Inquiring mind want to know!

Vanilla, thank you, Dori was SO special. She made us laugh so hard at the character she portrayed, and ended the skit with Christian recognition in our lives. I was so proud of her, then after lunch was served she gave another speech which was so well received. For the shy little person that married my son, she has turned into a professional actress-entertainer. And she says it is all due to God. Wow..I am SO proud of her.

Gloria de, I think it is very interesting to learn about the Chronic Care Management. Especially since you live alone. It would be a big help to have someone come to the house each month rather than you having to go to a doctor. And you are familiar with the plan since your husband had it. I wish you the very best dear, and I'm sorry you got the infection in your leg wound. We heal so slowly when we age, you surely didn't need that added problem.

Bis, it can be very frustrating when you have an appt. and the doctor turns up an hour late. They should pay you rather that you paying them. I hope you had a good rest this afternoon.

Janie, you sound a bit stressed dear one. You take on too many problems of others methinks. It is time to take care of Jane. O.Kl ?

I am worn out tonight having been so stressed up with joy at our big party today. I even won a prize of a small box of See's candies, just by having the right ticket, plus the greatest thrill of seeing my Dori perform. She really makes herself the character she portrays, in out fits as well as personality. She was Zelda Zamboni today…a really great character. She started her skit with "Are any of you ladies pregnant?" So she had us all laughing before she had even begun. I am so very glad my Gary married this sweet girl.

Saw my friendly dentist today. No new cavities. Now how many of you get a hug from your dentist.  I was one of her first patients when she started working here in town. Her daughter was in elementary school then and now she is in college. She fixed y partial and now I can eat with it in. Great, now bring on the sweet corn.

JOAN  my partial is fixed and feels good now. She told me if it gives me any problems to call. I sent my grandson an SOS last night. When I got home today I had a reply. He will be here tomorrow morning. That means he will have enough time to check it out, get my Cox email back.

MARY ANN  I have been using Open Office since I got my first new computer. My grandson installed it and I set it for the way I use it and saved the settings.

PHYLLIS  today was more of the same here. Weather guessers are all saying rain tomorrow, between 2 -4 inches. Going to have some hard rain but the soft sinking in rain is what we really need. We have one lady here who wears a sweater or light jacket all summer. Was surprised a couple of days ago to see her without one. She is always cold and loves summer heat.

JUNE  so glad you got to see Dori doing one of her skits. Wish I was there to see her.

JACKIE  I would love to see Dori performing, too.

GLORIA de  this 4 day heat wave is the second heatwave this month. Usually gets that hot in August. That Chronic Care sounds like it would be great for you. Every time I have called HP I tell them this computer is no good and should be replaced. Wish my grandson was here when I called. He could explain the problems better than me.

JOAN  I have had to wait in a little cubicle at the office of the doctor I had. I could hear staff leaving for lunch and it got very quiet. OK I got my purse and walked toward the desk and there he was having a conversation with one of the female staff members. I asked if he forgot about me He said no was just going there. I said fine go there I am leaving and never went back there.

JACKIE  I guess I am lucky I only have 1 medical doctor, 1 eye doctor and 1 dentist.

SHIRLEY  these days I am glad I no longer have a car. Would not be able to afford the upkeep and insurance.

AMY  hope there is still some of that cake in the hidey hole. You know me and my sweet tooth would be happy. Wow my next appointments are with doctor in October, eye doctor In December and the dental hygienist in April. If anything comes up I can always call for an appointment to lose years of

JANE  when y 20 year old car finally died I didn't know what I would do but my son gave me he spare key for his van so I could go for groceries or the doctor. I always kept the tank full and when he needed tires I paid for 2 of them. Then when I had him go with me to see how I was doing after I had my shoulder done and could not make a sharp left turn, when we got back to the house I took the van key off my key ring and gave it back to him.

PATRICIA  before HP called yesterday I copied every thing I could to a new folder on the external and unplugged it. I sure would hate to lose all the PSP things I have collected over the years. I usually only plug it in if I a going to save something or do some PSP. My grandson set Facebook up on this PC. Only wanted to see the pictures he posts of the baby. All of a sudden I kept getting wanna be friends coming from all over. Not interested. I don't have time for that stuff.

HAL  when I went into my first apartment on my own my younger son got me tools. Nothing big or powerful. Just some things to help me do some things. Still have them but they no longer get used. The SS card was supposed to be a private thing not to be shown. Now seems everyone wants that number. One time I got a call, forget who he said he was , and he wanted my SS number, Told him you called me I did not call you so you do not get it. This was years ago before we started hearing about all the scams today. I had my car insured with the Hartford through AARP and it was not bad there either.

PATRICIA  I used to carry my SS card and copy of my birth certificate in my wallet. Then they started telling everyone not to carry it any more.

JUNE  glad you enjoyed seeing Dori perform today and some Sees chocolates on top of it. Now that was a good day for you. Glad I kept the paper in the last box of Sees my daughter sent me. Once she is living in Arizona she will not get to any of the Sees stores and I will have to order my own.

Have a good night everyone.

Wow, we have a storm coming through like gangbusters!  I just went down to the river with the cats & not even serious looking clouds.  Cats stayed down & hope they got to their hidey hole before the wind hit.  Heard on radio that already an 85 mph gust just a few miles away.  Lighting & hear a groan in the house, sounds like between walls & roof.... wood rubbing together.  Guess I should get off here, you think?    Haha, maybe it's that person hiding in here getting spooked!   :2funny:

Hal, my Escape would stall like that but when I "tromped" it expecting sort of passing gear.... it felt like the wind got knocked out & you know that empty feeling when that happens.  Especially with cars coming at you from every side. None of my extended family with Escapes ever had that problem.  I didn't realize how much bigger they are than this little Encore.  Have to put stuff on the back seat 'cause the trunk is so small.  But I just needed it for town driving, maybe a trip to KC a couple times a year at most.

Guess I'll grab a camera & look out the front door to see if trees are going down.  Really sounds nasty.  I'm on that west side of Wichita with all the bright reds....http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/wichita-ks/67202/weather-radar/348426

Gloria, I opened my See's candies the bulk of them are with lots of nuts,  so I will save those for Gary..he loves them too, but I'm enjoying the few creams.

I am fading fast, so will close now and get ready for bed. My housekeeper will be coming in tomorrow early to change my bed and linens, then later fo do what she calls "deep" cleaning. So I will be out of the apt. part of the day tomorrow. I'll just go to our lobby down the hall and read and relax. Life is good.

Sleep well dear hearts. I love you all, and so does God !

CHUCKLES

Car Trouble

Jill's car was unreliable and she kept telling her husband John about it, but when he would drive it, it would always seem fine. So he dismissed it thinking that she was exaggerating. Then he got a call:

John: "Hi honey."

Jill: "My brakes went out. Can you come get me?"

John: "What!? Where are you?"

Jill: "I'm in the drugstore."

John: "And where's the car?"

Jill: "It's in here with me..."

Food For Thought

The Spirit and a Dime
(Written by Alan Johnson)

Several years ago a pastor moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him ten cents too much change.

As he considered what to do, there alternately appeared to him little angelic figures sitting on his shoulders and whispering instructions into his ears. One said, "You better give the dime back. It would be wrong to keep it." On the other shoulder a voice said, "Oh forget it. It's just ten cents. Who would worry about this little amount. Anyway the bus company already gets too much fare. With their millions everyday they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from God and keep quiet."

When his stop came he paused momentarily at the front door, and handing the driver the dime he said, "Here. You handed me too much change." The driver replied, "Aren't you the new pastor in town? I have been thinking lately about going to church somewhere. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you ten cents too much change."

When the pastor stepped off the bus he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, and held on, and said, "O God, I almost sold your Son for ten cents."

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit." (Romans 8:5)

After a good night's sleep, a nice gentle rain and a good talk with Frankie and her mother, I feel somewhat better today.  Right now, the temp is 68º and heading for a high of 88 later today.  That's not too bad.  And I have a plan for today and some help to carry it out.  Frankie is going to do some of the cleaning to get ready for Beverly's visit and then on Saturday, she will move to my son's house for the time that Beverly is with me.  Sounds like a workable plan to me.

Amy, if you come in here soon, I wonder if you'd email me your recipe for zucchini pickles.  My neighbor gave me a gigantic zucchini yesterday and I have to do some things with it.  I think there might be enough for bread, too.  Gonna be a busy two days around here.

I think I'm over the hump.  Feel much better today!  I wish you all a wonderful day full of the love of God.

Jane I sent you the recipe and here is where I got the recipe for the yummy cake, I don't add the orange peel in it.

I thought maybe others would like to make it too, so easy to make and a nice moist cake.

Glad your feeling better and life seems to have a new out look on it for you and others.

Shirley, I hope you are safe!!!

Gloria, this recipe makes a big bundt cake and I did put some in the hidey hole for you.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Good morning everyone. Well it is raining but the heavy rain is due later. My grandson will be here is a little over an hour so will see if he can fix this machine. I think those HP techs (I question how much they know) have a one track mind. Restore to original when the original is flawed.

SHIRLEY  hope you post and let us know you and yours are OK after that storm.

JUNE  you have my mouth watering telling me about those
sees with the nuts. Yum.

JOAN  oh I used to love Frosted Flakes so will have that with a banana. Today's chuckles made me think of my daughter. She kept telling my SIL there was something wrong. Nothing happened till the day he drove it. It got fixed fast after that. The Spirit of a Dime is a keeper and a good one to share and I have copied it.

JANE  my daughter makes  zucchini relish and it is good. She sent me a jar of it.

AMY  that link with the cake looks like it would taste great. I will have the piece I got from the hidey hole with my coffee.

Guess I should bet a move on and do a few things before grson gets here.

All's well except someone in KS feels like she had a "knock down drag out" last night.  Think after feeding cats & moi, pushing the dumpster back to the street, I will get some more zzzzzzzzzzzs.   I had the dumpster out when my son called to warn about the wind & he agreed I'd better snug it up by the garage unless I wanted to pick all up after it blew over.  Rained off & on and haven't heard any news except from son, a house hit by lightning in his neighborhood & "have all the fire equipment from town".  The houses are large & lots small in that area so when fire & wind mix, no time to waste.

I seem to remember posting photos of my grands over in "Photos".... took me a while to remember how to put them in the Gallery to have the link to it.... and my fuzzy brain didn't think about bringing a link here so....( at least I think I posted photos.)   :crazy2:

Good morning, Gloria.  I hope your grandson is able to get your computer fixed.  I think your computer is a "lemon".

Shirley--Good morning.  Happy to see your post and know you are OK.  You had quite a night, and I hope you can get a good nap today.  Jace, Amelia, Kate Elizabeth, and their Dad and Hadley and Cole are a wonderful looking family.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

Hi everyone.  Another copycat day of the rest of this month.  I have completed my outside chores so hope to pretty much stay inside today unless we decide to go out for lunch as this is the morning for the Housekeeper to be here.

I had a very good nights sleep last night, over 8 hours and woke up with my hips joints not aching, which they had all day yesterday and evening.  When I went to bed last night I applied some Aspercream to each hip where it was hurting.  I will certainly try that again.

Joan, I found yesterday that you need to pick up your order on the day it is placed or it is cancelled out.  You would want to check to see if you could pick up the order in the drive thru land.  At the one we frequent you can but apparently all stores do not allow that.

Jackie, glad at least one of your worries was satisfied and hopefully these additional test and appointments will provide answer for you on the other problem.  I bet the doctors just hate the 10 minute rule.

Gloria, perhaps it is time to ask for a supervisor or manager with HP.  There must be something really wrong with that new computer and it unreasonable that you have to continually start with a fresh install.  Hopefully your calls to HP have been logged and thus they have a record of your frustrations.

deAngel, hope the infection is gone and the stitches removed.  Too bad you have to make another trip because of the red tape involved now in health care. It sounds like the Chronic Care Management would be a helpful thing to have.

JeanneP, I do not carry collision on my older car.

Hal, your grandson's wife sounds quite exceptional.

June, it sounds like Dori's performance was something not to be missed.

There are so many fine postings each day and I would like to respond to almost all of them but try to constrain myself here.  So I will just say bye for today.

I am up, and I think I am awake, but the brain is still in bed. My housekeeper was here, changed the linens and will return later this morning for the thorough cleaning. That's when I disappear down the hall to the lobby and let her take over the job.

I had a weird night, restless, filled with weird dreams of the previous day. It was such a great day, I guess I couldn't erase it from my mind. So I will make no plans at all for today. Hopefully I will get some snail mail taken care of.

Time to have some breakfast and get ready for the day. Back later.

Larry--We've had repeat after repeat with the weather for the last month.  Thanks for the tip about Chick-Fil-A.

halkel--Hope you get a good report from your doctor.

Lloyd--Don't get overheated working outside.

June--I've been doing snail mail all week and will do so next week, too.  Finlay is at a two week boy's camp in North Carolina and the only thing they can receive is mail.  I've tried to send a card or letter every day.

Joan, as always thanks for the goodies.

June, I know you have a reason to be proud of your son and daughter in law.

Gloria, that is nice that your grandson, can help you with your computer.

About my grandson, he is going to be moved to assit. living.  His ins. is running out at the hospital.  they say it is going to be a long hall, before he can walk, I thought he was waliking a little now, but it is with a lift.  I do not understand the whole thing,

Good morning everyone from another wet and soggy day here in the Interior.

Gloria de., I am glad that your grandson is getting out of the hospital, assisted living is still a step up. It will take a very long time for him to recovery. I remember my first husband broke his back in Vietnam, and it was a couple of years before he was physically able to return to duty and Vietnam. Afterwards, unfortunately, the war left him mentally scarred.

I give up, made a new avatar of Tom & Tiger sleeping on MY cuddle blankie (they know they weren't supposed to be on it)... sleeping so innocently side by side.  Tried everything, got it resized and loaded into My Gallery but none of the links puts it into my profile.  I hated looking at the selfie I updated to at one time so thought it would be nice to see the kids.  Just isn't working & I'm through for this day!  Got the photos of the great grands posted last night & posted over in Photos & thought "while on a roll....."  Was a one time fluke. I need a nap~

GloriaD, so sorry your gr-son's problems are lingering so long, at least there is hope he will walk again.  He will be in my prayers as long as needed.

Joan, when my best friend's son went to camp she would call to read his letters to me.  She didn't know if to laugh or go get him with his dangling mentions of daily activities, never finished what happened after...... She had no brothers and sent her older son to visit his grandmother & aunts that lived on farms, instead of summer camp, so really didn't know about boys and their adventures.  I'm sure F is pleased & proud to get your mail every day.  During WWII my mother wrote both of my brothers every day & they thanked her many times when they got home.  Unlike some of the guys, they had lots of mail at every mail call.

I'll check the link, Chia, thanks!

Good Afternoon,

Shirley,  Loved the pix of your darling gr-grands over in Photos.  Your red-haired ballerina reminds me of mine at that age.  I have pictures of her and her sister dressed for their first recital in similar tutus and with their hair in the ballerina's bun surrounded by flowers.    Miss Ellen is in perfect position but Miss Emily looks like a sumo wrestler.  Not surprising that one turned out to be a dancer and the other an athlete!!

Heavy rain overnight lowered the temperatures so much that the a/c hasn't run as much today.  I probably won't have to water the "pot" garden for several more days.  Nice for the water bill!!!!

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere has had a lovely day.

My daughter Kelly had the four girls,  Maddie,  Maggie,  Maeve and Maren and I do not recall them ever having
a baby sitter that was not a family member...

But at 16 Maddie went to Europe to be an Au Pair for
friends of the family ....   She traveled around pretty
much on her own ....    Kids are amazing and they tend
to preform exceptionally when in the care of others,
or themselves.   (Or at least these four have)...

I hope that Finley has a great time and a great
experience.

Bis, I have failed so far to do a bit of snail mail. I just seem to be wiped out after that wonderful day yesterday. So I have spent the day reading and napping. I feel like a real slug. I'm sure Finlay will have so much to report on his camp experience, and it must be heart warming to hear from you each day at mail call. You are a good Grandma.

Gloria de, I am glad you had the stitches removed without any problems. Now we can hope the infection clears up more quickly.

Gloria, there is so much in the medical field now that we do not understand, so we have to take the word of those in charge. Patricia made it reassuring as to the assisted living phase so we can have hope that they do a good job.

Chia, thanks for the post re: the Arizona. It was a welcome message, knowing this action can be done.

Well, I had my appointment with Dr. today and he is starting me on PT and gave me some pads for my back.  And ordered an xray for my back.

My two daughters came in from Del Rio this afternoon and they along with my daughter here along with other family members went to a Greek restaurant for dinner.  It was pretty good, but did like the belly dancer they had performing.
I ask my wife if she was remembering all the moves.   ;D

I am off to bed, Nite, Sweet Dreams and God Bless.

Before I forget..... I've got a brain teaser for all of you that used to sing songs when we were kids.... remember the alphabet one, remember "Mickey Mouse's Birthday Party.... and another one that my neighbor just brought up laughing about her sister who is in a rehab place right now, got everyone singing along.  It goes like... "Playmate, come out & play with me, slide down my cellar door, .... dee dee dum dum... can't remember the words, a rain barrel in there somewhere... but "I can't come out & play, my dolly's got the flu ... boo hoo, boo hoo, boo hoo".. and so on.  My sister would sing all day long & would perform for everyone that came to the house.  I sometimes would sing with her when we were alone but I didn't perform for anyone... for any reason.  She was the bashful one ... I never met a stranger & wasn't afraid of anything... and now she doesn't remember every doing it.  I just called her.  She has very selective memories.... can always remember things I did wrong.   :knuppel2:  Anybody recall those songs of the early '40s?

Sandy, girls are way more cautious and careful than boys.  I really believe that.  Your girls were raised to be independent and so was I.... but my brothers could find trouble no matter where they went.  Boys tend to want to "one up" the other kids, dare each other or just want to explore.  I was surprised how different they think & react after having a girl & then 2 boys.  I realized my brothers had a lot more fun than my sister.... she was catered to & pampered but they had more chance to do what they wanted.  At least that's what I thought growing up & raising my own kids.

Thanks, Callie, I sure know the difference in kids.... my sister & I were as different as possible and our mother let us all "just be us".  Mom was a "prissy" little girl and her younger twin sisters were terrible tomboys. Since her mother died when she was 7, she felt a lot of responsibility for her younger sisters, including a third sister  a few years younger than the twins.  They had 3 older brothers & an older sister, had plenty of help, but their father was hands on all the way and they adored him.  He remarried a few years later, his wife's cousin whose husband died and left her with 2 sons about the same age as my mother.  The twins were identical but if you looked at their photos through out their lives, one was serious & the other always gazing off... a dreamer. Mom always thought my sister was like her and I was like the twins.  I like to think I let my kids be free to be themselves as well...  and I still think my boys are more naive than my daughter, and can still miss judge people more than she does.  One son is "bluster" and the other quiet.  I enjoy tales about your grands & their adventures.

Time for midnight snacks for the cats.... none of them wanted their usual foods... maybe they need to go a little hungry, no question they are getting spoiled.  God Bless & sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

Haha, Hal, I had a neighbor many years ago that taught belly dancing... and no, I didn't take lessons!  Did you not try the exercises I told you about?  :knuppel2:   Seriously, hope the PT works.

Hal, If you ended up with a black eye for suggesting your wife do the belly dance, you deserved a good whack. I'm sorry about the back problem, but it sounds like you have a very good doctor.

Tisie, as I recall it goes.

Playmate. come out and play with me
And bring your dollies three.
Climb up the apple tree,
Look down my rain barrel,
slide down the cellar door
And we'll be jollly friends
Forever more.
I'm sorry playmate, I cannot play with you,
My dollies have the flu,
Boo Hoo, boo hoo , hoo, hoo.
Ain't got no rain barrel,
Ain't got no cellar door,
But we'll be jolly friends, forever more.

My Mom taught me that song when I was just a little girl, and I loved it. My two sons are exact opposites Tisie, and both are so valuable to me, and I too wanted my boys to have the freedom to live their own lives, and I still do, that's why at my age I can live here and be cared for day and night if needed. Sleep well dear friend.

And love, hugs and prayers to all of you. June

Posting much too late....but wanted to stop in and say HELLO.

Patti had some issues but did get released from the hospital late this afternoon. She is at her son's home recouping....and will head back to Wyoming on Sunday.  I wanted her to come here but she didn't want to hurt her son and dil's feelings.  They cared so much that they both went out tonight and left her and her husband there.  They never mentioned that they would not be there.  Oh well, what can one do?  BTW, he could not be bothered to get to the hospital to visit her either.  I just feel bad for her.  See JACKIE, just another issue that you and Patti share!

We took it easy today...Bob took me out to breakfast... we did a bit of shopping then came home to enjoy our 49th wedding day in peace and quiet.   We just can not believe we have been married and together so many years.  How blessed we are.  If we are in town we normally go to the chapel where we were married.  It was just too hot today so we will go and visit it soon.  Believe it or not I fixed a meatloaf for dinner and it sure tasted yummy.  We will go out to dinner tomorrow night before we head to the Willie Nelson Concert.  We have to pick up Mark from the airport early afternoon....he is flying home after completing level 2 of his PGA training.  He had to admit the heat and humidity in Florida was worse than any hot day when he lived in Cabo!  His best news for is is h got a call about a job he was hoping for and will start the 1st of August.  It is a teaching position as a pro at a exculisive course here.  Sadly, it is temporary as golf courses are seasonal here in Colorado.

I must get to bed.....goodnight EVERYFRIEND!

Good Saturday morning, Everyfriend.   There's a breakfast buffet to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

:smitten:

CHUCKLES

You Know It's Summer in Florida When...

- When your car is overheating before you drive it.

- Your computer won't work unless it has it's own AC blowing on it.

- Hot air balloons can't go up, because the air outside is hotter than the heated air in the balloon

- Airplanes can't land because the asphalt runways are too soft.

- You discover that you can drive the car using only two fingers on the hot steering wheel.

- The ducks in the park are designated "original recipe" and "extra crispy."

-More hot water comes from the cold water tap than the hot one.

- Your pool water boils so much in the sun that you can boil potatoes in ten minutes in it.

- You burn the grass by watering it with the hose.

- The hotdogs sold outside the Home Depot are actually hot.

- A hot shower cools you off.

- The politicians have to take their hands out of your pockets to fan themselves.

- You cover the leather seats in the car with cloth or sit on towels.

- At noon in July, the kids are on summer vacation, and no one is moving on the streets.

- Sunscreen is sold at the front of the checkout counter, a formula less than 30 SPF is a joke, and you wear it just to go shopping.

- You burn your hand opening the car door and your rear end wearing shorts on the hot seats.

- You notice the best parking place is determined by the shade under trees instead of the distance to the door.

- Your dog refuses to go outside so you are forced to build and inside a/c toilet facility for it.

- All picnics feature hot food like it or not.

- There is no such thing as "Cool Aid."

- The beaches are over populated with natives instead of tourists.

Food For Thought

The Pastor's Worst Enemy: PRIDE
(Author Unknown)

*The Particular Causes of Pride*

Public gifts: As your gifts are exercised in public (unlike those with more private and unseen gifts and ministries), they are more likely to be recognized, admired, and praised.

Official status: As many of God's people respect and honor the "office" of pastor (sometimes regardless of who fills it), you may be inclined to think it is you they respect and honor.

Man-centeredness: When people are blessed under your ministry, they will often attribute it to you rather than to God.
Worldly ideas of leadership. You see yourself as "in charge of all these people," rather than their servant.

Inexperience: The Church is quite unique in how it places untested and inexperienced young men into positions of the highest responsibility without going through the "humbling school of hard knocks." Having never been led, they sometimes do not know how to lead.

Misunderstanding of call to the ministry: Paul did not see the pastoral ministry as a prize he had earned. For Paul, it was as much a grace, an unearned gift, as salvation (Eph. 3:8).

*The Pastoral Consequences of Pride*

If you fall into pride there will be serious consequences in your ministry.

- You will start depending on your gifts rather than on God.
- You will become impatient with your less gifted brethren in the ministry or eldership.
- You will become thoughtlessly insensitive to the traditions and customs of the past.
- You will resist personal criticism and mature counsel.
- You will become discouraged and discontented because "I deserve better than this crowd!"
- You will regard yourself as above the small/dirty jobs in the congregation.
- You will stop learning because you know more than everyone else anyway.
- You may fall into the "condemnation of the devil" (1 Tim.3:6).

*The Personal Cure of Pride*

Let these two phrases be the double heartbeat of our ministries.

1. I am a sinner

- Remember what I was (think on the sins you've been delivered from)
- Remember what I could be now (if God had not stopped you)
- Remember what I still am (research your own heart )
- Remember what I could yet be (if God removed His restraining grace)

2. I am a servant

- A servant of God (not independent but dependent on God for commission, authority, blessing)
- A servant of God's people (not their lord or sovereign)
- A servant of sinners (do not look down on the unsaved but get down on your knees for them)
- A servant of servants (don't compete with other pastors but serve them)
- A servant of the Servant (who said, "I am among you as one who serves," and, "the servant is not greater than his Master.")

Thought of the Day

"All we want in Christ, we shall find in Christ. If we want little, we shall find little. If we want much, we shall find much; but if, in utter helplessness, we cast our all on Christ, he will be to us the whole treasury of God."

- Henry Benjamin Whipple

Good morning everyone..

Going to be another hot one here but I don't think the humidity will be as bad. While picking the beans yesterday I heard a sound above my head only to find out it was a wild goose flying low and the sound was the wind going through its wings. Then when in bed last night a group flew so low and honking by the house . Usually when they start the flying like that they are getting ready to head south.Hope not for a while!!
Will go to town to pick up a few groceries this morning before it gets to be like an ant hill with people. Then home to do laundry  and cleaning up.

Joan, thank you for breakfast, love buffets as one can take just a wee bit and try new things.

Enjoy your day everyone

Good morning, Amy.  You were lucky that sound was the wind going through the wild goose's wings and NOT the sound of it dropping a "present" for you. :)  I have to get some groceries, too, and find early in the morning is the best time to go.

Oh, Amy, I love the sound that the wind makes as geese go flying by.  We have not seen many geese this year, guess the ones that stop during the winter talked our locals into going north with them.  Smart birds, they only spend winters here that are mild & go on south when it's really going to be cold.  So sad the "highway improvement" (new off ramp) took the rookery of the egrets & herons, they were hilarious to watch the young practice formation flying..... I have a series of photos taken one year, of a whole V of young learning, as one lost formation it was like a bunch of kids collapsing & giggling.... the whole V fell apart.

June!!! Thank you, thank you! You made my day with your wonderful memory!  I copied and will send to my sister & brag about my 90 year old friend!  She (sister) always "Lords it over me" being 5 years older when it suits her & 4 other times.  She is 4 years & 1 month but since that month is from Dec.25 to my Jan 16.... the birth years were 1930 to '35 so I narrowed it down to 5.  Sometimes it gets her goat.  ;)

Good morning, Joan.  So has Finlay had any adventures you can share?  His parents are so smart, giving him the chance to be on his own at this stage.  They are making him a well rounded person.

I'm at the opposite end of the house & can see the cats waiting for me to call them in at the family room door.  Better get a move on, another hot-hot day.

Glad your friend is home but sorry she has such an indifferent husband, Jenny.  Poor Cas made it to visit me once & had to stop & rest on every bench along the way.  I begged & threatened him to NOT try it again.  The nurses showed him a shorter way out but he agreed to let the kids come & report to him. It was such an effort for him that it still means the world to me that he tried.

Hi everyone.  It looks like we might get a little break in the weather in that it is forecast for a high of 94 today and a 30% chance of an afternoon rain.  As far as I know neither Pat nor I have any plans to leave the house today and I have the outside watering done for today.

I had high hopes for yesterday but the weariness and hip joint pain changed that.  As a result I spent a large part of the day in bed or in my easy chair with heat on my hips.  I did sleep OK last night.

Hal, there would be something amiss if you were not biased concerning your Granddaughter.  Hope that PT helps the pain.  I don't think I have ever eaten in a Greek restaurant although have had a few Greek dishes.

Jenny, it sounds like you had a nice 49th Anniversary Day.  Hope you enjoy the concert tonight and are able to breathe during the performance.  Is there another level of the PGA that Mark will have to accomplish.  Nice he is getting the pro job there in your area.  I bet he was glad to get back to Denver.

Joan, being away from his parents or family for the first time will probably be a bit tough for Finlay but a good learning experience.  I hope he really enjoys the camp.  Two weeks is a long time and I bet those letters and cards are greatly appreciated.

deAngel, I hope your grandson does well in the assisted living.  He must be better if he is able to do a lot of things for himself.  How long has he been in the hospital?  Glad you got your stitches out and hope that infection is soon cleared away.

Shirley, I can relate to the experience that Cas had coming to visit you in the hospital.  I used to have to do the same thing in the big hospitals where Stacey was often admitted.  Pat was in the same hospital and it was a long way from the parking garage to her room.  A time or two I had to ask for a wheelchair and volunteer to help me.  When Pat was in the hospital here last year it wasn't such a long walk from the parking garage to her room so made it OK without having to rest on the way.

Good morning everyone. My grson spent 3 hours working on this lemon yesterday. Things seem to be working OK for now. Wonder how long it will be before something else goes wrong. Would be shocked if every thing goes good from now on. The up to 4 inches of rain predicted here sure was not even an inch here. They said it would be worse in the afternoon but by noon the sun was shining.

SHIRLEY  glad you are OK from the wild weather you had. Will have to go to photos and look for the ones you posted.

LARRY  I have asked to talk to a manager at HP but the ones I have talked do not know anything either.

JOAN  thank you for today's goodies.

Cannot sit here longer. Will turn on the TV and look for something to enjoy and just lay on the couch.

Good morning, Shirley.  I got a letter from Finlay yesterday.  He said he was having lots of fun and the food was good. :)

Larry--Good morning.  Sorry you're having all that hip pain.  I hope Finlay is REALLY happy at camp.

Good morning, Gloria.  Sure hope this is the end of your PC troubles.  Hope your back feels better if you lie down on the couch.

Good Morning Everyone!

Late getting in here this morning.  Had coffee with my middle daughter and wife on the patio and then came in and gabbed for awhile before she took off to go to a meeting.  My youngest daughter gave her a life and will return shortly to get her Mom and head out shopping.  I will hold down the fort.

Joanie, had to laugh at you grandson liking the food.  At his age and eating away from home everything taste good.  I would bet he doesn't slow down from the time he is up till his head hits the pillow.  I know about redheads, I used to be one, now I am a blonde.

No Janie this morning.  Hope she is okay.

Jenny, congrats to your son on the new job.  It must be hard getting established as a pro.  Takes a lot of "other" talents, other than skill, to do that job.  And some of the folks they teach....wow.  Hello, patience.

Larry, Tisie, I can relate to the have to stop and rest.  That is why I dislike going to Wilford Hall Hospital at Lackland.  Parking lot is a long way from entrance and inside you have to walk, it seems, miles to get to the clinic you are going to.  Between shortness of breath and my back it seems almost impossible.  One problem is no place to stop and sit to catch your breath.

Amy, you speaking of the Geese on the move, you know it really isn't that long till the fall will be there.  August on Monday.  Our best weather here is in the later part of September and October.

Better get off here.......

Good morning, halkel.  There's lots of activity at your house this morning.  Finlay has always been a good eater willing to try anything new.  He's a very active boy.

Amy--Maybe Janie and her friend are "getting pickled".  If I remember correctly, her friend was coming to visit.

Amy, what a delight to have heard the sound of wind in the wings of the Goose. I envy you.  The skies seem too busy here to hear the sounds of nature. Right now, with my windows open it seems I hear the sound of someones' air conditioner running. Nothing pleasant in that.

Tisie, I must admit there were a couple of lines of the ditty I had mixed up, so I googled it, and sure enough dear old google had the words. My brain will be 92 years of age come Dec, so it surprises me at times what is still available back there.

Larry, you are still called upon to  be active in shopping and driving, etc. Maybe it is time for you to look into getting an elec. scooter. We have several of them here at Rowntree. They are small enough to take anyplace, and there are "lifts" you can buy to tote it on the back of your car. It can be pretty stressful having to walk any distance when our physical body is tired.

Gloria, may God Bless your Grandson for being able to sweeten up your lemon of a computer. Is there anything you could add to the computer to keep it in good operating order ? I still think the company owes you a refund or a replacement.

Bis, that must have been a pleasant jolt to have heard from Finlay. Surprising to have someone his age take the time out to write. He must be very happy with the daily missives from Grandmother.

Hal, you are sure Blessed to have those good daughters that are there for you and your wife. You both did a good job in raising them.

Amy, I love your great sense of humor..keep it coming.

None of us are "pickled".  Only the zucchini is pickled!  And it looks gorgeous!  My only complaint was that it made exactly 5 pints and there's none left over for me to try.

I'm now waiting to take Frankie to the bus so she can meet a friend.  My friend arrives tonight around 10:30.  As soon as Frankie is gone, I'm going in there and clean that room.  She says she'll be back in time to do and not to touch her stuff but she's visited this friend before and spent the night.  I'm not going to wait and if she doesn't like it she can "whatever"!

I have some beans and ham and potatoes in the crock pot and that's going to be dinner tomorrow

June--I know when I was at camp at Finlay's age I sure looked forward to "mail call".

Janie--Too bad there were no pickles for you to "taste test".  Enjoy your friend's visit.

Good morning.....well it still is here in the Mile High City.

Mark made it out of FL and arrived in Atlanta.  The same plane was to bring him to Denver...that did not happen...they set on it for 40 minutes waiting for a repair....the got everyone off and are waiting for them to bring in another plane.  EVERYTIME he flies Delta through ATL he has problems.  He was just thankful he got to ATL safely.

Excited to read about Finlay and him being at a camp for two weeks, JOAN.  Did I miss a post about the family and maybe even Linda visiting you?

I am sorry my post was confusing last night, but in this case it was Patti's son and DIL that went out and left Patti and hubby to fend for themselves...so the comparison l was making to you, JACKIE, is she also has issues with her only child.  DIL is a RN, and that is why she was to go to their home to re-coop.  DIL and son are at work today so she is still struggling with getting food and meds.  She is in the basement of the home and can hardly do stairs normally let alone after stomach being sore from surgery.

I hope you all enjoy your Saturdat.

Jenny

Jenny--Flying sure isn't what it used to be.  I saw on Faceback that Linda got stuck in Dallas overnight this week because of plane problems.  Joe & Family and Linda are going to try to come for a visit before Finlay starts school again.

Not sure how this post box showed up, maybe 'cause I've been thinking about not feeling at home because I still haven't mastered getting an avatar in (that pleases me so can't be me) and the temp thingy.  That reminded me that I don't recall when Jeanne Lee checked in, she always helps everyone.... did I just miss her posts or is she missing in action?

June, my neighbor that was singing the song last night called her sister to tell her about you getting all the words to the song and "singing around the world"....  delighted her sister.  My neighbor reads but doesn't post in here.  She is a character... you'd love her.  (Sylvia, I'm telling on you!")   Besides, don't know why I thought you were 90, my brother, neighbor's husband and dear friend's husband are all 90 & think they are special, so they will have to bow to your years!  I think Mary Ann is also about the same vintage, right?  Really proud of your showing the young pups up using computers like y'all do.  :bravo:

Shirley--I was thinking about Jeanne Lee earlier today and am worried about her.  She hasn't posted here in the SS in about a week.  Hi to your friend, Sylvia.

Shirley, Gloria D, June and I all are 92.  Gloria's birthday is in either January or February, mine in April and I think June's is in November.  Both of them are much more active than I am.  We all have our individual ailments.

Mary Ann, I will officially be 92 in Nov. but it is close enough. Isn't our friend Junee from Australia also in our early 90's bracket ? I never dreamed I would reach this age and still going on. It has been a great life, and I guess my "inner" person doesn't want to leave it. I would miss you all too much. It is still hard for me accept the absence of your brother Norm and his "buddy", Papa John. I wonder if the "Papa" is till around ? I have a picture on my computer of him and his beautiful wife Corneiia.

I need to grab a bite to eat...not hungry, but we have one more program downstairs that I want to attend, the last of our "Camp Week". It has been fun with various progams throughout the week. We will have a sing-along which I will enjoy. So...off I go. See you later.

I'm all cleaned up and ready for Beverly.  Her sister and BIL have picked her up at Baltimore/Washington airport by now and must be on the way north.  They are supposed to be here by 11 and it's a good 2 1/2 hour drive from Baltimore.  She's going to be one tired lady when she gets here.  But I bet we won't sleep right away.

I'm going to bid you all "Good Night" now just in case I don't get back to say it later.  I was worrying about JeanneLee also today.  I hope it's her computer that's ailing and she's not having a relapse.

We've had a rainy day today.  It started around 1:30 and has been raining off and on all day.  It's supposed to continue until around midnight and then start again tomorrow early afternoon and continue into early evening.  It feels much cooler now and the a/c hasn't been running for a couple of hours.

I wish you all a restful night.  Good Night Everyfriend!

June D, yes you are right, I see 94 coming up,soon, ..know you 92s are trying to catch me. I am not very good at posting but keep track of you all.
So pleased you are near family now and know you are being well looked after.

Papa John is no longer with us, so guess he and Norm are still playing games.   Junee

Junee, thank you for the information on Papa John. I knew he was ailing but I didn't know he was back with his Cornelia, and surely having a great time up there with Norm. They were a very enjoyable pair.

We had a great program tonight to finish off our "Camp Rowntree" games . It was a young man and I'm sure, his wife, and they had us all singing along with them and doing hand games and it was a good crowd that participated. I think this is the first time the entertainment committee did this sort of thing, and it certainly was a success.

I finally got one snail mail answered today.Four more to go. Right now I am ready for bed. This week has sure disappeared into thin air......seems like yesterday it was going to be Sunday, and it is here again tomorrow..I pray you all have a very good night and a happy tomorrow. More Prayers, hugs and love to all. June
