Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

It's almost midnight in Central PA.  Beverly is in for the night with her book and I'm about to hit the hay, too.  I don't have to work tomorrow but we are going to a old-time concert at the Museum that used to be the old hospital in Lewisburg.  They are having all kinds of activities in honor of the Albright Care 100 year celebration.  Beverly was born in the old hospital and, while I wasn't born here, when I was in 8th grade, I won and essay contest titled "WHY WE NEED A NEW HOSPITAL".  And we now have one of the most up-to-date facilities in the area.

The concert is on the grounds of the museum and there will be a produce and craft market with it like they used to have in the 1800s.  I think it will be fun.

Now I think I'm sleepy enough to go to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful rest and May God bless us, every one!

I'll turn out the light again tonight~   Don, I am so pleased to hear Bubble is traveling to see you!  Too bad we can't all get together to visit!  Okay, guess that isn't what you had in mind?   :2funny:  Will be watching for the photos.

Hal, no matter what I get at TX Roadhouse, it is 2 meals for me.  I've been asking to substitute a plain sweet potato instead of TX fries.... since I get carry out... and put lots of real butter on it.  Supposed to be the healthiest veggie of all for us.  I like their smokehouse burger and the pulled pork sandwich.... both come with fries or sweet potato.  Hope after all the tests your doctor finds that "spot" turns out to be dust on the X-ray machine, not likely but hope it's one of those things that might disappear instead of grow.  Prayers continue.

I am half asleep so better get ready for bed, cats all fed & back outside for the night.  I've concluded that I am getting lazy, so much to do & I'm getting good about "thinking about it tomorrow".....  I did cut the wisteria out of my little flower bed today & took the loppers to an evergreen that needs to be taken out.  Filled the dumpster & that's all I'm doing this week!  Mowing crew coming tomorrow, convinced son he didn't have time this week, he grumbled but didn't protest too much.

Prayers & hugs for all, sweet dreams and God Bless....  Shirley

Food For Thought

Elusive Peace
(By Debbie Preuss)

Elusive peace in a busy day
Running, running, no time to pray
God wants to talk, to be your friend
For time and eternity without end
Talk to God, He's always there
His heart is filled with loving care
He wants a relationship with you
Not just religion that you say or do
But a friendship formed in the heart
One that will never be pulled apart
He gave His Son, take time to see
All He's done for you and me
The ransom is paid, by Jesus' blood
Be washed forever in His cleansing flood
He paid the price to set us free
Sins washed away for eternity
Take time away from your busy life
To give to God your cares and strife
For time and eternity without end
God wants to talk, to be your friend
Elusive peace in a busy day
Running, running, take time to pray

I'm up and attem but probably won't be in here much today.  Beverly needs much more help than I was prepared for and I'm finding the strength to do what she needs.  He sister comes by every day will be by later today to help her shower.  My daughter who works for the Agency on Aging is going to try to borrow a shower seat so she can sit to shower.  I've decided that I can't be responsible for that and Kay said she'll come over.  She can't stay with her sister because the bathroom is upstairs.

I think she came this summer because she knows it's her last chance to come "home".  I don't think I'm ever going to see her again after this.  We've been friends since we were 12 years old.  That's a long time.  And that was unusual back then because we didn't live in the same town or go to the same school.

She's resting right now and my coffee is ready so I think I'll just sit on the patio and dream a bit.

Don, enjoy your visit with Bubble.  You both deserve it!

Good morning, Amy.  GREAT that your husband got such good news.

Janie--Good morning.  Bless you for taking such good care of Beverly.  I wish you lived closer.  I have a shower chair that I'd be glad to loan you.  You've been friends for so many years, and I know you are sad to think you may never see her again.

Hi everyone.  We awoke to a cloud covered morning but almost 80 degrees.  Our high today is predicted for 85 with a 65% chance of rain by mid-afternoon.

I woke up around 4 am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep.  Pat also got up early for her.  The morning chores are over as have taken out the trash to the street, flowered the flowers, fixed breakfast for Pat and I and have a big load of wash going.  Pat had to tell me what to do to get the washing machine started.  It has way too many bells and whistles.  It was easy when I knew what to do.  I will take her to the chiropractor in a little bit and sure hope he can give her some relief.  This is a first visit, of probably many, so not expecting too much but anything would be worth it.  It is here in North Augusta so won't take long to get there.  If I am not too tired I want to attend a concert tonight at our church.  It is a group called Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass.

Scott was here late afternoon and finished up the supper by fixing the hamburgers and then he kindly cleaned up the kitchen.  I had about done myself in getting the salad ingredients fixed and a few other things.  My shopping at Aldi's yesterday morning really left me tired for the rest of the day.  I am going to try to have a quieter and less stressful day.  I haven't decided whether I will go to the Wisdom class at the church this morning or not as am not going to coffee today.

I am going to post this before we leave but know I won't get all of yesterday's postings read before we go.  So may second dip later this morning.

Patricia, I just saved the page as a shortcut on my desktop and then from the desktop dragged it down to the taskbar and from the menu selected pin to task bar.  I can then reopen the page from the task bar and copy the code, which I have to do each day although just leave the page open until I reboot the computer.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  Las night's weather news said there was a 65% chance of rain today, and this morning they said 15%.   We need it badly, but it seems to go all around us.  I pray Pat can get pain relief from the chiropractor.

We are at the chiropractor's office and she is filling out the paperwork. I read the messages that I hadn't read before we left home. I think the comments I would make have been made by others so will sign off for today.

Good Thursday afternoon.....

Just come off the phone after putting in a " formal " complaint of my supposedly MS team.....I was given the choice of either resolving, or formal, I had no hesitation in saying " formal..."

My MS Specialist Nurse phoned just before and informed me, after delving into what went wrong in yesterday fiasco, " that SOMEONE had cancelled my yesterday appointment.."....Of course straight away I jumped in and said, who, why, and when did this happen, it certainly never came from me..... The first I knew of this, what a nerve, what a cheek, who gave this person permission? I would like to know who this person was.....she said she didn't know,.....Didn't know or didn't want to divulge who it was?.......This just adds more to my complaints list....Anyway MS Nurse gave me the complaints telephone number, told me, if she was me, she would put in a complaint, so here I am, I've now got the ball rolling, (Patient Advise Liaison Service......)
........................................
While I was on the phone, knock at the front door, R took in my Goldhill organic box delivery...on inspecting the apricot sticking out on top of the open bag, the apricot has gone rotten, oh well, just another " fly in the ointment....."

In English, the phrase fly in the ointment is an idiomatic expression for a drawback, especially one that was not at first apparent, e.g.

Ie...we had a cookstove, beans, and plates; the fly in the ointment was the lack of a can opener.

JaneS

Jackie, my grandmother used that expression often.  She'd sigh and say "Well, that's the fly in the ointment!"

Click for Lewisburg,Pennsylvania Forecast

Vanilla-Jackie

Jane S, seems like so many of these sayings, expressions are universal....you-we, dont tend to hear them so much amongst our younger generation, but these are what we grew up hearing from our parents, grandparents....

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Don, so excited that Bubble is on her way!  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Jackie,  so sorry about your MS team difficulties.  I've heard  "fly in the ointment"   all my life to mean something that happens to make a situation difficult.

I don't get direct sun until afternoon so I have windows open to air out the house.  Even with ceiling fans and room spray, the "atmosphere" was getting very stale.   Probably won't have them open much longer because my eyes are beginning to itch and my nose is getting snuffly.  Grass pollen must be up.  :tissue:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Vanilla-Jackie

#168
Callie K, maybe I used the wrong expression, as I cant see that one bad apricot is going to make my life any more awkward, or my situation anymore difficult than it already is.... :roflBig:

Actually just double checked, there are two, that are rotten..." good money being thrown down the pan...."

JoanFL

Bubble & Don--Am sure you are both excited.

Good morning, Gloria.  I sure would like some blueberries fresh from the farm, but have to be satisfied with those from Publix.  Glad you slept so good last night.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning/afternoon.  Gee, you sure are have a fiasco with your MS specialists.  And then to have a couple rotten apricots.  We've used that "fly in the ointment" saying for years.

Good morning, Callie.  I wish it would be cool enough to open doors/windows, but that won't happen.  Weatherguesser this morning said we'd broken several records--32 days in a row with temps over 92° and 31 days in my county without rain--just for starters.

Jackie,  I read too fast and thought you were referring to the cancellation of your appointment by someone else as a "fly in the ointment" of the arrangements to see your MS team.

Re: the apricots.....   I remember some comedian who used the line  "What a rotten development this is...."    ;)

Joan,  one tv channel's weather chart for the next 10 days showed 99 for a high temperature on all but two of them.  Humidity level will make it seem much higher than that.  :(

angelface555

Good Morning from the Interior! Weather is to be consistantly rainy through Tuesday so no news there.

Farrah has discovered jumping in and out of boxes is fun and educational, as is dropping into the tub and attacking through the shower curtain, those unwary enough to get close.

She naps inside her paper bag in between dragging toys in or out with a fierce growl. When Farrah hears a loud or unexpected noise, she investigates instead of running for under the bed.

In the morning she comes at the first sign of movement and verbally explains to me about how sad it is to see an empty food dish. This is the important news, and Farrah is an entirely different animal than she was in early May!

I received my new space heater yesterday which resulted in those boxes and seven new audio books as well. I've already read two of those books. I have received invitations to join three new committees here and an invitation to enter nominations as either secretary or treasurer of the building council and numerous bits and pieces of paperwork and telephoning per medical and dental issues so this next week or two will be busy.

The state fair is due to begin here on August 11th, but I don't plan to attend in rain or crowds, so that's the last of our summer festivities here.

Larry, thank you for your reply. Dragging or attempting to drag a page from Notebook was not working, so will just continue to code as I go.

We seem to hog everyone's rain; I am sorrier than you know...please come and take your portion with you!

June Drabek

Bis, I really enjoyed "words not yet in the dictionary. Very clever indeed. I particularly enjoyed Aquadextrous. I actually tried that one time…in the day when I could still get in and out of the bathtub that is.

Janie, You are truly an Angel disguised as a human. Friendship runs two ways, or at least it should. You are entertaining in a normal home, not a care facility. God be with you.

Larry, you are doing like Janie and taking on too much. If Pat does not improve greatly in a short period of time, you will have a problem my friend. I will tell you what my husband told me. "What will happen if you get sick and cannot care for your mother ?" You are not well either Larry, and Pat may need increasing care. It may be wise for you to seek "care-giver" help. A strong nursing woman to come in once or twice a week. Please seriously consider this Larry. Ask friends or your doctor how you would find this person.

I have got to scoot, running late for a meeting.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Callie--We have the humidity to go with those high temps, too.

angelface--Farrah sure is a different cat from when you first got her.  I'd be more than happy to take some of that rain.

June--There will be more of those words tomorrow. :)  Enjoy your meeting.

We made it to ARIZONA safe and sound.  It was a pretty rough flight.  I have never seen so many huge white billowing clouds... I took some beautiful pictures, but they are really only something I would enjoy due to seeing what it looked like at the time.  It is so good to be here with my dad.  He is thinner and a bit gaunt looking.  He says he is not feeling all that good.

JACKIE, I am so angry after reading the mess you encountered yesterday at your appointment! Sounds like the left hand does not know what the right one is doing.  How ridiculous ! Of course they can lie and say "someone" cancelled your appointment.  And people in this country think we should go to socialized medicine!

DON, I am so excited for you and Bubble.  I hope she has a safe flight and you two will be together soon.  Happy, Happy.

I did not get this posted....I am getting really bad about this....better post it now!

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.
