Since 2006, there have been more than 200 mass killings in the United States. The same day as the Florida shootings, a man killed his wife and four daughters and simply drove away. We only hear about the larger shootings now as it has become a way of life and therefore common.

It is a sad commentary on our way of life.

Denver

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Beautiful morning here in the Mile High City.  We are to have storms roll through later in the day, but right now it is perfect out.

We enjoyed going to Matt's Lacrosse game very much.  They won first place in the two day event and sure we're proud of them.

I agree that the media just gives far too much coverage of these awful tragedies.  Watching the same clips over and over and over..... These awful terrorist do not deserve to have so much attention.  The only good that came out of this one is that the gunman is dead and we do not have to go through a trial!

ANGELFACE, it is the same here....terrible shootings and car accidents daily due to speed and road rage....  I pray for our country, and sadly, it is true it is just going to happen more and more.  Sadly it is becoming like the OLD West.... Packing heat on your hip and shooting when ever you take a notions to do so.  Frightening.

JACKIE, I was hoping for a better report today regarding your workmen.  As stated by others, soon all will be done and you can sit back and enjoy your home.

JOAN, thank you for our goodies....the cricket is a good one.

Bo big plans for the day, however there are things I need to accomplish, so bet get with it.

Enjoy your day.

It turns out humans aren't the only species that can hear sounds before birth. New studies from Australia find that some mother fairywrens call softly to their eggs. The chicks not only hear their mothers, they actually begin learning parts of her calls while still inside the egg. The calls may later serve as a sort of family password once the birds hatch. Read the story and listen to the calls.

Merry Monday!

It's a cloudy, muggy day in central Oklahoma.  Weather gurus are saying we in the OKC area should be "alert" for storms tonight.

The family trip to Tulsa yesterday went well - even though the storm clouds we could see to the southwest as we left caught up with us and we drove in pounding, blinding rain for quite a distance. Fortunately, we drove out of it and the weather was nice for the rest of the time.

"Shrek..." is not my kind of musical, but the actors did well with the humor and Miss Ellen was good in the four featured numbers in which she participated - each one with a different style of dance.

I really slept in this morning and am glad there's nothing I must do or anywhere I must go today.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

JoanFL

angelface--Sad indeed.  Interesting about the fairwrens.

Jenny--As I said earlier, I had to change the channel, because now they are just repeating what they've been saying the last 36 hours.  Nice that you can attend Matt's lacrosse game.  Finlay called early yesterday morning while he and Joe were waiting in Atlanta for their connecting flight back home.  They had been to NY to attend Molly's high school graduation.  Kate couldn't go--she's on vacation in France visiting a friend.

Callie--You have weather similar to ours only no storms in our forecast.  Great that your trip to Tulsa was without incident and that Miss Ellen did well in the four numbers in which she participated.

Good morning dear hearts. We are shrouded in clouds again, but the end of the week is supposed to bring un-wanted heat. eek.

Jackie. Thank you. This message held so much beauty and love, it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much.

Hal, I had the same thought of our gal Sun. She uses her wheel chair most all the time so I'm praying the surgery heals very soon. She needs her hands to operate the controls. And the older we are, the slower the recovery from any illness or surgery.

Larry, you may be correct in not having Martial Law. I have heard others say they are against it also. I must look into it and see just what it contains that would be detrimental to our daily living.

Gloria, I am so sorry you  are having trouble with the installation of 10. Hopefully your Grandson can be of help. I don't want you losing sleep over it !!

Today I will be going to see my doctor, rather than my doctor coming here. For a price, I will be picked up at the clinic and transported both ways. Another perk. Of course I will pay for the transportation, but how nice to have it all arranged for me.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I have to share this beautiful video clip with you of....." Dance With My father Again....." I wonder if this young child relises what a wonderful talent they have with their singing voice...the best rendition of this song I ever have heard, sings this with such pure emotions.....it will leave a tear in your eye...Link....

Gloria I was going to upgrade my desktop to W-10, but after reading about your tribulations I changed my mind.

Jane,
Walmart Canada is going to stop accepting Visa credit cards; are there plans to do the same in the USA?

angelface555

Walmart is coming out with their own store card.

phyllis

Don, as far as I know Walmart (U.S.) isn't going the same way but who knows about these major corporations when they start twisting each other's arms?  It could happen but since that would be a major change and a real hassle I doubt it will come to that here.  I expect both parties will negotiate something before it comes to that.  Merchants have been complaining for years that Visa's percentage of volume fees have been too high.

It has been a beautiful day here.  Bright sun, clear, deep blue sky, low humidity and temps. in the low 80's.  I would love to have that for the rest of the summer!

Amy

Oh my the pot luck lunch was delicious!!Thank goodness all the food including the cream puffs are calorie free..........well that is what they said ... :2funny:

Walmart has their own credit card here...as for the Visa the costs were too high and it is also being let go in No Frills grocery store too.

Don, I have W10 and it hasn't given me any grief in fact it surprised me as I was expecting a lot of :tickedoff: but tis fine.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Radioman--I "googled" and there were many hits about Walmart's stopping accepting VISA cards in Canada but nothing about the US.  Of course, that could be coming.

Phyllis--Not so nice here today--in the 90s and VERY humid.

Amy--Well, of course everything is calorie free at a pot luck.:)

I really like W10 but if you have been using Windows Seven or earlier, there will be a learning curve. I had a computer that still had W7 on it and it lasted for about four days before I upgraded to W10 and haven't looked back. There is a W10 discussion here in the forum and there are numerous sites on the web with explanations and answers. However, if you only do emails and one or two sites then why change?

Denver

LARRY, I believe your Face Book account has been hacked...
Larry, NOT YOU, and I had a nice chat then I figured out it was not you.  I reported it and I friended you.  FYI

Gloria

Well my problems with 10 are over. After the whole week end trying to understand it and trying to get things where I am used to I uninstalled it with the help of my CNA this morning. That is what she has on her PC and she said mine looked a lot different from what she has. She couldn't understand mine either. I am back to 7pro and already had that blue screen show up already.  I will be calling HP again tomorrow. I thank Larry and Donklan for trying to help me. Now I should be able to sleep tonight at last.

JOAN  like you I am tired of all the news from Orlando. Too much of it.

CALLIE  Shrek was not my idea of a good movie. I have long past the fairy tale stories.

JOAN  wow hard to believe Molly is now out of high school. I bet Finlay has grown a lot since we last saw a photo of him.

JUNE  my daughter always refers to this moth as June gloom. Not much sun showing all month. I sure did lose sleep over the week end. I am worn out right now and will head to bed early. It was not the installation, that went fast, it was trying to understand it. I never in 85 years had so much trouble learning something new.

DON  some people seem to like 10 but I never had such a hard time trying to figure things out. It is nothing like we are used to with the other windows that we have used over the years. I started with 98 then XP. I still liked that one best.

PHYLLIS  it was cool and cloudy here all day. Sun came out when I started typing here but is gone again. Humidity is low and that I do like. Should be good sleeping tonight.

AMY  my CNA  said my version of 10 was different than hers. Instead of a back massage she helped me uninstall 10. Glad you enjoyed the potluck lunch.

PATRICIA  no graphics at all showed up in my email. I love making stationery and nothing showed except the text.

Good night everyone. One more forum and I will head to dreamland hopefully.

Amy I found out the hard way that No Frills did not accept Visa. It was at the checkout when the cashier informed me. I had a cart load of groceries at the time and just walked away a left them.  There were no notices anywhere to advise shoppers of this policy and after pointing this out I left.

JaneS

WalMart has had their own store card ever since before we opened our first store here in Lewisburg.  I think what you are hearing is that it is going to be a Wal-Mart Discover.  You can actually have it either way...just the store card or the WM Discover that can be used in other stores also.

I think that might be a trend.  About a year ago, my Macy's card became a Macy's/American Express.  I do not like this trend.  Macy's didn't give me a choice.  So far, one has a choice at WM.  And so far, we are still accepting Visa.

The birthday party was fun and the visit with my sister and BIL and their family was fun, too.  The trip down...not so much fun.  I missed a sign saying that the last section of the road I was on was closed due to construction.  It meant backtracking and driving in Harrisburg city traffic further congested by the detour.  It also meant another hour in the car...a total of 2 and a half which should have been an hour and 15 minutes.  Needless to say, I was exhausted when I got there and to complicate matters further, the car's A/C quit working.  A harrowing drive to say the least.  My BIL helped me to find an back road bypass of the construction so I didn't have to go into Harrisburg on the way home.  THANK YOU, JIM!

I'm going to go to bed early tonight so I'm going to say....

Good Night Everyfriend!  Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed.  God Bless Us Every One!

Gloria and Janie, I am sure both of you will have really good sleeping tonight. Stress can be SO tiring. I will be off to an earlier bed too, as my day was just a little too much. I met  the man at our clinic that drove me to Anaheim where my Drs. office is. He is a jewel. Has two sons in their mid teens, and he is an employee of Rowntree gardens. His main job is taking we old people to our doctors or dentists or where ever. I was out and home again in a little over an hour.

The sun has finally appeared, and I had forgotten the term June Gloom. Jose reminded me of that, and now our Gloria mentioned it too. The end of the week is supposed to turn uncomfortably Hot..eek !!

Time to eat and then take a one floor hall walk, and so to bed.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

GLORIA....

In your June 11th post you mentioned it only took an hour to load Widows 10.
I don't believe that is normal for the conversion from 7 to 10.
That may be why you had so many problems and why your CNA said it didn't look like her version.

Beverly

Beverly here, checking in from the slow-cooker! I am about medium well done now.  ::) Our A/C died and it was 100 this afternoon. We are trying to keep things a little cooler with fans and tonight have the doors open. It's down to a cool   :hot: 83 outside at 10:30 p.m. We went out to dinner and had a nice cool ride in the car to a nice cool restaurant. Then I went to Publix for a few things, which is always on the chilly side. We had planned to stay in a hotel tonight but neither of us really wanted to and Chape is watching the NBA Finals. There may not be much sleeping going on tonight. They are supposed to be here with our new A/C ($$$$) at 10:30 a.m.

I am another who isn't a fan of Windows 10. I can deal with most of it but can't have the e-mail I like and I have a terrible time with my photos. I'm sure I'll get used to it after awhile.

Wishing you all a good night!

June Drabek

Beverly, I do hope you and your fella' can manage to sleep at 83 degrees. And you have humidity too, correct ? A cold shower or two may help get you through the night. We are to be 59 for our low.

I had my supper and a walk in the hallways and now I am off to bed and book.. God bless you all with a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June

CHUCKLES

It was Palm Sunday, and Sue's three year old son had to stay home from church because of strep throat. When the family returned home carrying palm branches, he asked what they were for.

His mother explained, "People held them over Jesus' head as he walked by."

"Wouldn't you know it," the boy fumed. "The one Sunday I don't go, Jesus shows up!"

Death Notice

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition!

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Good morning Joan, am I the first of the J's to show up?

Weather dry so far and showing a little glimmer of sun, think tomorrows forcast will be pretty bad....
.....................................
Our outside workman is here, tuned up around 8.20 am this morning, minus his other work partner...I haven't been out to say good morning to him yet, nor take him a cup of tea, I am leaving that to R....Workman says he is painting the fiddly bits, cleaning the fascias ( think that's the correct term ) around top of outside house, roof....as he done the back last Friday....but he will be back as and when, depending on our weather to roller paint the centre of our home.....just as well we didn't go with a completely different colour paint....
Such a shame as yesterday turned out to be a glorious, quite hot and sunny day, just perfect for an outside paint job....

Good morning everyone.

Mrs Robin sitting on a branch outside my  window woke me with her singing . I didn't want to get up this early but bless her heart she thought I should rise and shine. We are putting up the gazebo that we bought on Sat. the wind has died down now so it should be safe to put it together.

Don, don't blame you for leaving the groceries, they should have had signs on the entrance door way  or radio announcements in the store telling people of the change.

Gloria, the pot luck was a happy /sad day. One of our ladies is moving away after being in sewing 11 years.  Temp here this morning is 30 ° but they said it will get much hotter towards the weekend.

Good morning Jackie

Joan thank you for the DD's...yummy breakfast!!
