Carol

When it is hot, the slow cooker is usually making one dish for dinner - outside on the deck.  Otherwise, I tend to make a lot of large meals and freeze portions for the really hot days.  Lived through years without A/C and a person just keeps the early morning or late night cooking/cleaning habits.  Not so much late night now.  We set the A/C at 75.

Once, just before back surgery, a lady cleaned my house - our oldest son has just been in a truck rollover and was achingly stiff and hurting, husband was starting a new job on Monday - my back surgery was scheduled for Monday - and my squeaky cleaning SIL Doris thankfully flew to our house for a week to tend to me.  Before she arrived, I hired a lady to clean the two floors - that woman complained about the work and I wanted to tell her that I do it free all the time.
The word got out to neighbors and unknown people to us of our dire predicament and strangers brought entire dinner meals daily for about ten days - it was so awesome I will never forget their kindness (happened in Texas).

Now, it takes me almost three days to keep up this place and you can see I take long breaks.

June:  Can you do the Hula!

Callie:  Understand you completely about your g-daughter moving.  Now I also understand why my mother was depressed when I moved from Seattle to Washington D.C.  Do you have SKYPE on your computer?  It is a great way to speak to someone and also see their face.

JoanFL

Carol--I don't do much cooking when it's so hot, but when I do I use the crockpot.  You sure had wonderful neighbors in Texas.

I'm home and I'm "all in but my shoestrings" and if I had any of them, they'd be in too.  I'm definitely going to check out the zzzs on the sofa in a little bit.

June, the dogs both sleep on the bed with me and when one of them jumps down it either means there's a thunder storm or someone has to out.  I always know when one of them gets down.  And, yes, they really are good about going out.  They'll wait for me to get warm clothes on the winger or to use my own facility before I take them.   And they come right back when they finish.  Of course, they know they will get a treat when they come in.  That might have something to do with their coming back.

Nice people shopping at WM today.

And I have to apologize to someone about the WM credit card.  It's not WM/Discover.  It's WM/Master Charge.  But they are keeping the WM Store card and I couldn't find anyone who knew anything about dropping Visa.  I'll keep asking.

Enjoy your afternoon, Everyfriend!

Good afternoon, I to am home and happy to sit still.for the moment. My vehicle wasn't too kind to me, the a/c line sprung a leak and the part has to come from the US. they will phone me to set up a time for this to be done.Plus there is a recall on the ignition and that will also be done at the same time. My  wallet will be on a starvation diet for a while  :'( I have always said that if all our problems are outside the home then we can handle them...so this will be handled.
The best part of the day was meeting up with daughter in love and heading off to the choclate factory, bakery and quilt shop..we all helped with the economy in the town  :smitten:

Now to unwind and relax..

Well I'm home, spent over an hour in the chair.  Had a young dentist doing the cleaning and she found the front filling that she had done last year most of it had come out at the top and she had to re-do it and of course it is bigger and she said it is the last time it could be filled.  It had decayed up above the gum line and hopefully she got the filling up to the top, the first time she tried it didn't stick, bleeding too bad, so she had to re-clean everything and changed to something else to fill things.  The she informed me not to eat anything that puts lots of pressure on that tooth, that because of the size of the filling, it would more than likely fracture.....oh whoopee.  Then she said dry mouth could be part of the problem, did you know that dry mouth increases decay.  So we talked about Biotene and using it, said that it was the only really product on the market but made no specific recommendation.

June, did you figure out how to use that "wiggle" in your Hawaii dance.... ;)

Anyhow, I am off to the den and the couch.

angelface555

Good morning from a bright and sunny Interior with just a small bit of wind! We are expecting to be in the early to mid-eighties for the last part of June and dearly want to believe "Them."

Gloria D, they came in manager and head of housekeeping soon after my posting that. It was a quick in and out, but I'm always concerned for some reason. The company inspects all the buildings in both Anchorage and Fairbanks twice yearly in June and then again in December.

You can smell the paint, but it is not that bad. The new carpet laying in early July will be more of a hassle I believe. So far no one from that painting company has returned to move all the furniture back against the walls in the joint areas, and housekeeping and maintenance are not happy with that as there are seven local buildings and multiple floors to fix. I don't think they will be accepting more bids from the painting crew.

Farrah was watching the shadows beneath the doors on Tuesday and listening to all the chatter in the halls, but spent yesterday under the bed while most of the activity went on. Today, as it's quieter, she remains out. She is laying on my bed for a few moments longer as well but doesn't stay very long. She's trying new things.

I have noticed that she sleeps through the midday and is active in the morning and late afternoon. While I am up early and to bed early. She is vocal and seems to be as Sarah was in that she looks at me and will go to the closet if she wants a refill and to the front room fitness mat when she wants treats. If Farrah starts bringing me her food or water dishes as Sarah had, I will be surprised! She still tries to herd me and vocally encourage me when we do her morning and evening routines, especially preparing her wet food.

JeanneP

Molly.  I would like to think that I could keep my Honda for ever. Only thing is the family can't see me doing it if I want to still drive long distance.  I would trust it . They don't.

Now will you both be taking a trip anyplace nice once he gets his Medical physical over with? Find some cooler area to visit.  I would sure like to go someplace as not been out of town all year. Just to hot now.  Need to visit a friend in Montreal. They have a lake cottage in nice cook area for summer but it is just having to go through this heat getting there.

June. It still surprised me that where you now live they have this habit of knocking on you door at 6am. Think I would be getting myself later down on the list.   Like 9am.  Just not a morning person. Once retiring I found that to be the best thing. No early rising.
JeanneP

CallieOK

Larry,  3 is the number of miniature chocolate chips the recipe recommends but I often use 5.  The cookie isn't really big enough for any more than that.

Larry, With rehearsals for two shows and working, Ellen probably won't have/take time to make the 1 hour and 40 minute trip very often between now and September 4.   When she does, she'll probably go to her parents' home, which is another 40 minutes from here.
During the two Tulsa shows she's already been in, she's made some good friends there - and I suspect she'll find some fun/mischief to get into with them.
It's o.k.   I'm delighted that she's spreading her wings and working toward bigger goals.

Carol,  I don't have Skype and doubt I'd use it with anybody - family or not.   I just started texting earlier this year and still don't keep my GoPhone on very much.
I'm just not the type who needs to talk to family - or anybody else - every single day.
Plus, I live "on the way home" for my college granddaughter and she occasionally stops in on her way to or from school.

Two months after I graduated from college, I moved 365 miles away from my parents for my first teaching job.  Since I['m an only child, it may seem surprising that they encouraged me to do this.  However, they had raised me to be independent and really couldn't fuss when that's what I became.    :)  Not sure they realized it would be 20 years before I moved back to Oklahoma, though!  ;)

There aren't many cookies left from the Bridge party but I've worked some Soda Shoppe Magic  and there are plenty in the Hidey Hole.  Help yourself!

Denver

Just stopping in to say HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I am not sure when I posted last, but found my last screen was a posting screen, but it was blank, so who knows?

We finished our taking care of Colorado Grand's last Sunday.  Now it is Thursday and the Chicago Grandson's and two Royal Standard Poodles are in our care until noon on next Sunday.  First day not even half over and I am not doing that well. Just stressed and tired.  Bob made me stay home and he took the boys to the pool to swim.

It has been hot here....like everywhere else!  This afternoon it has clouded over and it looks like rain......I pray for NO hail,as I have just replanted for the third time, my flowers that were ruined by the hail.

Yesterday I found a nearly brand new mobility scooter for sale and decided to go and take a look at it.  It is in great shape and we decided to buy it.  I have a hard time walking long distances, so this will give me a chance to go and enjoy myself at places like the zoo and the like.  It barely fits in the back of our SUV, and only because it comes apart.  Even so, it is a bit heavy for even Bob to put it in on his own.

The swimmers are back so I had best help get them settled on.

Hugs to all.

Angelface--They sure are giving your complex a renovation.  Farrah apparently hasn't decided if she likes all that extra activity.

JeanneP--My Cadillac has 47,000 miles on it, and  I am thinking it's about time to trade.

Callie--Thanks for putting those cookies in the hidey hole.

Jenny--I was wondering where you were.  It seems like you have worn yourself out babysitting.  How nice that you were able to purchase that mobility scooter.

Hope Sun doesn't object to me posting this....Sun it is sure good to hear from you, I-we have been concerned over your absence....

JoanFL.  Now you are what I am looking for. Someone who I know is a one owner. Taken good care of the car and buying a new one. Only 45000 miles on  I just do not trust used cars on the Lots. Many from the Auction Houses or from the Lease companies.
What are you thinking of buying?
JeanneP

JaneS

I had an email from Sun also.  She says she's thinking about the voice-activated programs.  I hope she decides that it's a good idea.

I never found the zzzs in the sofa.  That can sure be elusive sometimes.  Maybe I'll sleep better tonight if I don't nap during the day.  I've been taking an inventory of canned goods left from last year and making a list of what I want to do this summer.  I don't need as much as I thought.  What I have will keep and will serve this winter and I can do what I like most to do this summer.

Callie, everyone up here loves the Cinnamon pickles and I'm down to my last3 jars so that's on the agenda.  I'm off to peruse the Ball Blue Book.  It's my canning bible.

Thanks Bis, this has been a super day. Nice and cool, a delicious Hawaiian meal..good company at a table outside. Then on to the program in the Courtyard. It was packed. They brought over all the wheel chair patients from the extra care facility. The Hawaiian dancers that really were from the various islands were superb, and how they could keep up the pace of the movements was almost unbelievable. They had those of us that could stand do the various hulas with them, directing us, and of course yours truly joined in with one hand holding onto my cart.

Carol, yes I can wiggle my hips, and I did. I may be sore tomorrow, but I had a ball today.

Janie, You surely do have well mannered doggies, and good friends as well. I'm glad your day at WM went so well. I think your work keeps you feeling young.

Hal, I think going to the dentist is one of the most unwelcome things I have to face in life. I have saved some teeth by suffering through root canals, the this last one was a doosey..four hours in the chair. You bet my wiggle worked Hal..overtime for one really fast movement, but I loved it, and to watch the dancers was a real thrill. with the grass skirts every movement is intensified of course but so well done. And the slow music always tells a story with the arms and hands..beautiful.

JeanneP. I think I have them well trained now that they no longer bother me in the early hours of the morning. Having tests done early, I will accept, as they may have good reason for it. Those doing the testing are not employees of Rowntree, they are contracted in, so we follow what they need. I'm not a morning person either Jeanne. I wake about six, but I have a prayer time, and exercise and massage time, then on to coffee and the computer, and by nine o'clock I tell myself it is time to make the bed and get dressed for the day.

Jenny, there is a lift for scooters or wheel chairs that fasten to the back of your car. You can drive the scooter onto the lift then it raises to the proper height for driving the car. I have seen them in operation where I used to live. You may want to look into it. We don't want Bob to ruin his back handling the scooter.

Oh...I am SO glad some of you have heard from our Sun. I will be praying that her healing speeds up so we can have her back with us again.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JOAN - I really smiled when I read your message about selling your car.  Mohamed would love to have that brand and to him the mileage is a very small amount!  What color is it?

HAL - You are certainly a brave Lad to deal with your Dentist in the way you described.  I've told my Dentist several times that I would like to "go to Dreamland" while he (or one of his Assistants) works on my teeth.  He just smiles and tells me to behave myself and he will do the best he can for me.  My response is usually along the lines of "Irish Lassies my age REALLY do not worry about behaving themselves any more!"  Then he starts humming or singing!

Mary Ann

JeanneP, I am with you as far as buying new cars rather than used, but it isn't that I don't trust the used cars; it's that I don't know enough about cars to buy a used car.  With a new one, I can go back to the dealer.  Not every one can afford a new car.  Tom just bought a used 2006 Toyota Camry and loves it.  It has a lot of miles on it.  He bought it from a used car dealer, not from an  individual.  When he got that car, I sold my car to my great-niece in Indy.

June - and Jenny - when Norm had "old Blue" in Florida, he had a platform for his scooter.  It worked very well for him and he was able to go more places in Florida because of the rack.  Eventually he sold that car and bought a van that already had a setup for his scooter.

I'm glad Sun was heard from - welcome home.

Hello everyone. HP sent recovery disks and a tech to install . Brought the pc back to nothing like it was brand new. . Lost every thing except what is on the external, and here in my gmail. He left me with no email in Windows.
At least I got in here. This and Skype are what I  really missed this week. Hope I remember how to invite others in there. Just sent an email to my grandson explaining what happened and telling him I need his help once again.

I know I really should go back and read what has been happening this week but right now I am not feeling much like being at the pc. I spent almost 4 hours looking for things and only managed to get in here. Take care everyone and I hope I see you all tomorrow.

Good evening from Florida! It's still 85 outside at 10:45 but the new A/C is humming away.

Jenny - Sounds like you need a vacation.  :) You will enjoy that scooter and the suggestion for the lift on the back of the car is a good one. I see them down here a lot, especially at the grocery store.

June - Must have been fun to have the Hawaiian dancers perform. I love Hawaiian music.

Angel - The new carpet and paint will make it seem like you have a new apartment. What are your plans for Farrah while they lay the carpet?

Hal - I have been using Biotene for a long time. Mostly at night because I am a mouth breather, (can't breathe well through my nose) so whenever I wake up during the night I use it. Be sure to get the one that says Dry Mouth Oral Rinse with a drawing of a tooth on the front. I made the mistake of getting the other one once and didn't like it. We also use the Biotene toothpaste. It's milder.

I'm happy to hear that Sun has checked in with some of you. I hope she'll get the voice software. Speaking of that, it would be nice to hear some word about Kelly.

Molly - I hope Mohammed will be able to spend some time with you soon. Hope he's had good news from all of his medical check-ups.

Jane - I missed something here........What are cinnamon pickles?

Callie - We want our children and grandchildren to be independent, don't we?  I found a nice graphic and if I ever figure out how to post it, I will!  ;)

Gloria - Good to see you are back on your computer.

Carol - When I had my lung surgery (2009) many of my wonderful neighbors got together and provided us with meals for a couple of weeks. I don't think they knew just how much it was appreciated, in spite of my thanks. Our neighborhood is like that. I am very fortunate.

Larry - We have Florida's homestead exemption and it's a big help.

Our car will be 5 years old in November and we have no plans to trade. It's a Lincoln MKZ hybrid and we love it. Very comfortable and good on gas.

Amy - Chocolate factory? Hmmmmm!  :)

Jackie - Are you enjoying the new outdoor furniture? I've been wanting a couple of wicker chairs for my little front "porch".

Sandy - Did you get to see the new great-grandbaby again?

Phyllis - What would we do without plumbers?  ::)

Jeanne P. - We've reached that point where life goes into reverse and our children worry about US!

Haven't seen Lloyd today.......

Beverly, yes...I have been making the most of our dry and sunny weather, it is very comfortable and relaxing,....all I need now is to take up knitting, well I would if my numb right hand would allow me.......

Jenny, good on you buying a mobility scooter...we dont like to admit we are now at that stage but...we have to do what is going to make our life simpler, comfort, and simplicity are our new words......I can see that day approaching for me very soon, the way my walking is going...my walking can diminish in seconds, which affects my whole body to my head...then right leg relaxes itself just as quick....I have to be honest...I really do hate this Illness...I am the same alert person, just my body movements have changed, and are ruling me....

Gloria, a warm welcome back to our fold....we now have two absent members making an appearance yesterday - today...Gloria and Sun...the only one still missing is Kelly, and he hasn't answered my PM yet....
...........................
Well its now 5.40 am, been up 50 minutes already, had my first cup of tea of many.....

Edited...its now 6.25 am...R got up to hear our referendum results.....I - we are pleased with the outcome....R of course has now gone back to bed, me I am up for the day...

Beverly, it is the outside halls and other public areas that are getting new paint and carpet. The only time they redo an inside apartment is when it's ready to be rented out again.

Good early morning, I have never been in here so early 3:45AM, just, cannot sleep, tried reading also, thought I would check in with the early birds.

I am so worried about my grandson, he now has kidney problems, my DIL called last night, I feel so bad I can not go down to Fla. to see him.

The poor cat is confused, she is not use to me getting up this early

Carol, I keep saying Thank God, for my wonderful neighbors, or I never could stay here anymore, they check on me all the time.

June, your party sounded like a lot of fun.  I can picture you leading the dance.

Joan, I think I beat you here.

Jenny, I think you need to take some time and go back gambling.

Maybe I will try to go back to bed again. I just heard the paperman deliver the paper.

Seals

Some people are extremely impressed when you tell them you're a Navy SEAL.

Case in point: My grandson's Kindergarten class on Career Day. I regaled them with stories of my exploits in the military. After I finished, hands shot up into the air all over the classroom. The kids were eager to ask questions.

One little girl asked, "Can you balance a ball on the end of your nose?"

Food For Thought

How Can God Not Seem to See?
(Debbie Preuss)

How can God not seem to see
This wicked World of depravity
Stabbings, killings in this life
A man beating his own wife
What have we come to? I often ask
On this earth so small, yet vast
People turning their backs on God
With a logic that is flawed
They don't believe He is alive
As they live their lives from nine to five
Then they ask why God turns away
As they ignore Him day after day
God sees the sin and He has a cure
That will forever more endure
But those who still turn their back
His salvation, they do lack
For our Father had a plan
To redeem the sinful man
Give up the life they now live
Everything now, to Him give
He will cleanse and make us whole
When we give to Him control
His only Son died on a cross
So that man need not be lost
His blood covers all our sin
So that believing, we would win
Eternal life from heaven above
Surrounded by His perfect love
But those who don't accept the gift
Will not be able to span the rift
Between heaven and this mortal sod
For they are not children of God
They have no claim on heaven above
For they don't know God's gift of love
Soon will be the judgment day
When God will turn His face away
Then to hell, they will go
When offered salvation, they said no
God's children He will gather in
Those forgiven of their sin
The rest will go to Satan's domain
For they did not call God's name
They're not His children, life is done
They turned their backs on God's own Son
Know now that God does see
This wicked world of depravity
He made the cure available to all
If they would only answer His call
Those who don't know Him on that day
For the last time, God will turn away
And with their mortal, dying breath
They enter the hell after death
Listen here and listen well
God has NO children in hell

I love it.

If you are a Senior
you will understand this one.
If you deal with Seniors,
this should help you understand them
a little better,
And if you are not a Senior yet........
God willing, someday you will be.

The 2.99 Special

We went to breakfast at a restaurant
where the 'Seniors Special' was
two eggs, bacon, hash browns
and toast for $2.99.
'Sounds good,' my wife said,
'But I don't want the eggs.'

'Then, I'll have to charge you $3.49
because you're ordering a la carte,'
the waitress warned her.

'You mean I'd have to pay for
not taking the eggs?'
my wife asked incredulously.

'Yes!' stated the waitress.
'I'll take the special then,' my wife said.

'How do you want your eggs?'
the waitress asked.

'Raw and in the shell,' my wife replied.

She took the two eggs home
and baked a cake.

DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!!
We've been around
the block more than once!

Even Non-Seniors will appreciate it!

Always laugh when you can -
