Joan...
As I am unable to drive,  but can see well
enough to get around,  my goal when
coming into the city to live,  was to make
it easier for me to live alone, independently,
for a long as I possibly could.

The center of Portland Maine is ideal for
someone like me,  as there are two major
hospitals and many clinics,  an awesome
bus system that includes citys from this area
Portland, South Portland, Westbrook and Falmouth.
(think LLBEAN)...   plus Taxies,  and an
international airport and two major Bus Lines.
(Greyhound and Concord Bus lines)  with
connections to Boston New York and beyond.

Plus a train the runs through it!

But it is "City Living",  and we don't enjoy
the wide open spaces of other cities...  It is
the most convenient area for someone like me
that I could ever hope to locate to.

If I wanted to go up higher in this seven story
building,  I would be able to see Casco Bay and other
long views or our city.    But I chose to
settle into the first floor,  which puts me
right in the middle of  "city life"..    It works for
me but not, of course,  for everyone.

I am very grateful that I live where I do. And
can still function here,  by myself.

Sandy, for myself I too am in my ideal place. The only time I have to leave the property for a service is to the dentist or eye doctor, otherwise all my needs are taken care of right here on Rowntree Gardens property. We even have a building to go to for after a hospitalization. Our clinic is two floors down from me, everyone is loving and caring. We do have on property bus service for local places to shop or visit..Disney land is just a few miles away. I will stay here as long as I live.

Bis, I did go down for Music Bingo and won a handful of tickets. We have a little store on the property and once a month we can use our tickets there. They are good for a whole five cents each. WOW !
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

Sandy, the reasons to keep you in Portland are the same ones that keep me here.  I want to be in a city with a hospital, not that I've needed one often, but one never knows.  Our public transportation could be better, but I have Tom who is very willing to take me anywhere.  I love the country and small towns, but I know where I am best off.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

June--Don't spend all your winnings in one place.:)  You certainly do have a multitude of services there at Rowntree Gardens.

Mary Ann--It's nice to be content with where one lives for sure.

Another rainy day today. It started with a rumble of thunder at 6 am and rained off and on most of the day. I did a bit of running around with my sil today then he made muffins and I cleaned up after him. Tomorrow he's going to drop me at the outlet center for a couple of hours. I can shop til I drop and then call him for pickup. No matter how long I feel like staying he'll come get me.

Have a good rest of the day.

JOAN it is terrifying what happens with planes now. I only have one that has to fly at times, my grandson, for his job.

PATRICIA  I well remember how much you used to walk and all the wonderful photos you took and posted. Glad Farrah will eat when you leave the room. She must had had to fight for what she found when she was out on her own. There are a lot of those cats around here. The anial officers catch them in cages, take them in and spay/neuter them, give them shots. Some get adopted and those that aren't are brought back and released.

LARRY  today was gloomy once again, sun showed up at 5:30 for awhile. I had my last plane trip 20 years ago, no more for me.

HAL  wow were you messed up today. Better lay off those adult drinks. ::)

JUNE  CNA- certified nursing assistant. She is hired by an organization I joined and they sent her. While she was going to classes they sent me different ones all the time. Glad I have her back all the time now. Hard getting used to some one new 3 times a week.

JANE  will try to remember how to get to the gallery to see them.

Good night everyone

JOAN - I have a brief question RE the ID under my photo:  It currently says "Newbie," and I wondered if that just referred to joining this current group, since I'd participated in the previous one for many years?
Many thanks for the clarification.

I've spent most of the day focused on the World news RE the plane that was headed to Egypt and several calls from Mohamed.  Once again, many thanks to who Friends here who have kept him in prayers.  That kind of support means the World to him!

Jeanne Lee

Molly, I'm not Joan (obviously  ;D ).  When we had to restart and everyone had to reregister we were all designated as "newbie".  That stays until you have posted a minimum number - I don't remember what that number is without looking it up.  But everyone starts that way  :)

Jeanne Lee

Yes, Beverly.  I finally found it in Photos Then and Now HERE and fixed the thumbnail to full size.

I sure don't blame Jane for being proud of the lovely bride (or the handsome groom)!

Check Your Bill

A corporate executive received a monthly bill from the law firm that was handling a big case for his company. It included hourly billing for conferences, research, phone calls, fax, photocopying, and everything but lunch hours.

Unhappy as he was, the executive knew that the company would have to pay for each of these services.

Then he noticed one item buried in the middle of the list:

"For crossing the street to talk to you, then discovering it wasn't you at all - $125."

Food For Thought

God is Busy... Can I Help You?
(By Kirk Cameron)

Shortly after speaking with Ray at a Christian Worldview Weekend seminar in Washington D.C., a few friends and I stopped at a diner to grab something to eat. It was 11:30 p.m. We were tired and hungry. Our day was done. As we sat down, I noticed that my friend Larry was no longer with us. I got concerned, so I searched the restaurant. No Larry. I went outside and found him a hundred yards away in the parking lot, witnessing to seven or eight very rough looking guys with pierced body parts and tattoos (they were assembling for a midnight drag race with their modified sports cars. Larry's no tough-guy. He looks like me. All by himself and in the dark, surrounded by cigarette sucking guys much bigger than him.

My friend Mark Spence and I moved closer to the pack just in case they decided to pounce, when Larry dropped the "G" bomb. He did. Larry deliberately swung the conversation to the subject of God, their sin, and the fact that they could die at any moment and have to face the Judge of the Universe to give an account of their lives. Honestly, Larry looked like a lamb about to get eaten by a pack of wolves. Without flinching, he asked one guy named "Nate-Dog" if he had kept God's Ten Commandments. He hadn't. Larry then told the gang about the reality of Judgment Day and Hell. This attracted more teenagers and the pack of wolves got bigger. There were now 23 of them surrounding Larry the Lamb. One of the baddest looking guys in the bunch (named "Simon") had full arm tattoos, a giant circle disk inserted into his stretched out earlobe, and a black shirt with the face of Satan and the caption "God's busy... can I help you?" written on it. Finally, Larry told them of how God, 2000 years ago, demonstrated His love for them by sending his Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross and pay the price for their sin. I could see that Larry was in the "witnessing zone." As he continued to tell them about repentance and faith, fear had left him. He was running on adrenaline and his knowledge of how to share the gospel biblically, trusting the Holy Spirit to work through him.

After forty five minutes, Larry was still standing. No slaughtering of the lamb. Just twenty three teenagers asking honest questions and listening to God's Word. I stayed back, not wanting any of them to notice "the guy from Growing Pains" and distract from what was happening. Every one of those young men took a gospel booklet called "Save Yourself Some Pain--Ten Steps for New and Growing Christians." We overheard one say to his friend, "I'll tell you one thing for sure--I'm reading this before I go to sleep tonight!" Another one prayed for God to reveal himself and help him understand the truth.

As we drove to our hotel rooms at 3:00 a.m., we all agreed that we had witnessed something supernatural, and that if the average Christian had witnessed what we saw, it would completely fire them up and alter their view of sharing their faith.

Alone in my hotel room, reflecting on the night's events, I remembered Simon's T-shirt with the face of Satan and the written words "God's busy... can I help you?" I couldn't help but think of how many professing Christians hardly ever share their faith. They are either too busy, too afraid, or not equipped to witness to someone. Meanwhile, Satan is always available, and extends his hand to the lost, 24/7. Think about it. If unbelievers feel that God and those who claim to know Him are too busy for them, no wonder they gravitate towards Satan's offer of the pleasures of premarital sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, and rebellion against God.

Question: Is it okay for Christians to be so busy with legitimate acts of worship (like praying, Bible study, and serving at church functions) that we don't have time to seek and save those who are lost and on the brink of eternal Hell? When's the last time you went out as a sheep among wolves and shared your faith with a non-Christian? I made a new commitment that night--not only to love the Lord, but also to love the lost.

So the next time you see someone who is not saved (a friend, a family member, or even a stranger) who is not saved, what message will you send them? "I'm too busy" or "Can I help you?"

Good morning......It is dry, part sunny, think the sun is fighting the clouds, not sure which one will win, but at least its dry.....

I found out the genuine reason MS Specialist Nurse let me down yesterday......It was a safety precaution thing, that if a home maybe abusive or unsafe, they must come with someone else....She couldn't get through to cancel on the phone as she only had our old telephone number.....I was quick to fathom out the true reason, ( so, she didn't have my phone number but, she did have my address ) so when she phoned again this morning I asked her to be straight with me, and to tell me if I was right....that the not having my up to date phone number as she stated yesterday wasn't the full reason, and that I wasn't being fobbed off....I thanked her when she admitted this to be correct, I told her I appreciate her honesty and thanked her for it....She has made another home appointment for next week, this time bringing someone along with her.....I know I will get along with her, she came across very warm, friendly and caring over the phone....

R has gone to his eye hospital app....he will then go and do a shop at a superstore nearby....He knows Insurance assessor will be here between 12 noon and 2pm, it is now 11.50 am....

Yesterday evenings AGM meeting went well, we touched on several issues....and of course R left the hand raising voting's down to me....The chairman speaker publicly welcomed us by name as the newest arrivals...and everyone turned to welcome us.....The only dissapointment at the end, was that there were no refreshments to follow..... ;D

JoanFL

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  At least you found out why the Nurse didn't show up yesterday.  I had to giggle when you wrote the AGM meeting went well EXCEPT there were no refreshments at the end.:)

Good Morning,

Big day for family!  My grandson is graduating from high school. He is the brother of Misses Ellen and Emily.
Carson's Mom will present him with his diploma, as she is on the faculty - at least, until next week, when she will be retiring after 32 years of teaching.

JaneS,  what a beautiful picture of a beautiful couple.
They and Miss Ellen may become actual neighbors.   She is currently in rehearsals for a production at a Tulsa theater in June and learned this week that she has been cast in two more productions for August/September. Right now, she's commuting several times a week but, if the store where she works here can transfer her to the one in Tulsa, she will probably move there - at least for the summer.

Some of you may have heard about the bridge/overpass collapse in OKC yesterday.  It will affect two major thoroughfares for months and months but I'm not sure why it made the national news.   Only one vehicle was involved and no one was injured.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

JoanFL

Good morning, Janie.  I put a note in Photos, but will tell you again--your granddaughter is beautiful and her husband is very handsome.  I know you'll be sad to have time with your TX family come to an end.

Gloria--Good morning. I am sure you're glad to have a day without rain.

Good morning, Callie.  I did see that collapsed bridge on TV.  Folks who use those two affected thoroughfares will have to seek another route.  Congratulations to Carson on his HS graduation.  It's great that Miss Ellen is getting the opportunity to work in her chosen field.

Hi everyone on another overcast and a bit cool Friday morning here in South Carolina.  Pat has a doctor's appointment in a little while, just a routine matter related to her CPAP machine.  This will be the first time she has driven herself to this doctor's office but she shouldn't have any problems with it as have been there several times and not many turns after she gets off the Interstate.  I will stay home as the housekeeper is due this morning.  I expect we will go out to a late lunch and then Pat can have the evening off.  This is our usual practice when the housekeeper has been here.  They mowed the front yard here yesterday and just now came and mowed the back yard and then trimmed.  They used a push mower on the back yard rather than the weed eater they have been using.  It has just started raining.

Joan, glad to read you are finally getting rain down your way.  What we are having now is some of that low percentage chance of rain.  However, it is a nice gentle rain.

Sandy, that plane that crashed yesterday is a model that they have produced over 6,600 of them that are in service.  Glad you had a good bus trip and found a watch that is easier for you to read.  I also like having a watch on my wrist.  The area in which you live sounds ideal for your situation with everything convenient and accessible to you.

Jane, you do indeed have a lovely granddaughter.  Glad you were able to attend the wedding and now spend some quality time with family there in Texas.

Jackie, glad you finally heard from the MS Specialist Nurse and hope she keeps the new appointment next week.

Callie, congratulations to your grandson on his graduation. I saw the news report on the collapse of that bridge.  At least it wasn't caused by structural failure in the bridge.
