Explorers

Two intrepid explorers met in the heart of the Brazilian jungle.

"I'm here," declared one, "to commune with nature in the raw, to contemplate the eternal verities and to widen my horizons. And you, sir?"

"I," sighed the second explorer, "came because my young daughter has begun piano lessons."

Food For Thought

Start With Yourself
Author Unknown

The following words were written on the tomb of the Anglican Bishop in the Crypts of Westminster Abbey:

"When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered that the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country,

But it, too, seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If only I had changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.

From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world."

Thought of the Day

Good morning Joan, and all who are soon to follow.....I have no Idea why always wake up around 5.15am, same every morning.....same as at my last address, but I do....If I don't wake up first our Benji does the rounds and pops in to see me, then walks out again.....of course never happened at our old address as dogs kept downstairs through the night, now living on one level, the dogs have free access....

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Going to be a hot and sticky day today. We did have some rain yesterday so that was a blessing!!!

Today we are off to the city to meet up with son and wife for lunch then while the men visit (gab) we will check out a fabric sale..sure hope they the men have a LOT to talk aobut. :2funny:

Going to make this quick as we first have to run hubby's van into town then head back out to the city.

Good morning Jackie..

Joan thank you for breakfast..

Good Morning bis  Vanilla-Jackie and everyone else that makes it. well Jackie when we on our regular self the alarm clock in our heads seams to set itself to its taste. but since the last antecedent my alarm clock rings any time it sees fit and seams to have day and night mixed up bad. we also have the weather (rain Switch) stuck. we get rain every little bit hard or light its choice. a tornado yesterday afternoon went over warrensburg !* miles from us ,but did not get down tight on ground so no stretcher damage. so god is still having a watchful Eye on us.hope yoy all have a great day. oh yes our power went off last night and I had a hard time getting on line this AM.

Amy, I wonder if the men will be saying the same thing..... :chatter:

Shower hand-bar came an hour ago, surprising how large it is, I have placed it upwards rather than on its side, easier for me to grip.....Oh yes I see what Everyfriends mean, it is not something to rely on, re, the safety aspect....The one I have is long, thick and quite heavy, when you place the lever down the colour changes from red to a green....It did take some goes as one side went green the other side went a half and half, till I got it right till both ends turned green..... Now I am waiting on one shower non slip mat to arrive, I ordered three different ones for choice, but all three will be coming from different third party suppliers.......Well I seem to be getting there.....maybe a shower stall will be next....

Lloyd Hammond, no alarm clock needed in my bedroom, as regular as clockwork, that's the time I wake up.....Weather here is dry and sunny, but not hot, just pleasant..... No fun when we suddenly lose power...its how long is a piece of string as to how long it will take before its back on.....

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night and only woke up coughing one time and went right back to sleep.  I guess the antibiotic is beginning to work.

Shirley, I think you and I are kindred spirits when it comes to taking pills.  Even my dr. knows how I feel about them.  She asked me first if I'd be willing to try taking an antibiotic.  I think she was surprised when I said "yes"!  I try to pick and choose when and what I'll take and this time I was beginning to think I needed SOMETHING!

I hope Everyfriend is feeling well and happy today.  I wish you a lovely day.

Our weather has turned hot and humid.  Yesterday, it got up into the high 80s and today is to be the say but we are to have rain by early afternoon so maybe we won't mind it so much.

I'm off to feed the doggies!

Good morning to all.........love the Thought of the Day, Joan.  Always a treat to see what you come up with, thanks!

About these "body alarm clocks", I've decided when I check my Fitbit and had less than 5 hours sleep I just go back to bed and next time I wake up it shows a reasonable 6 to 7 hours.  Of course I eat breakfast twice this way, can't go back to sleep on an empty tummy.

We are stuck in the same rain & storms, Lloyd, and seems like almost constant radar on TV.  Lots of street flooding because wind breaks tree branches off that choke the storm drains.  Sitting on the bank of the Arkansas River, our soil is basically sand so I can walk down to the river as soon as the rain stops & feet not get too muddy.  I keep a long pole (taller than I am) by the back door in the garage & never go down the hill without it, saves me from slipping if the grass & weeds still wet. My husband carved it (smoothed off) on one of the trips he made to Colorado years ago.... handy on those creek banks to keep from slipping. I carved a face in the wood just above where my hand fits.

Jackie, only one of the cats has the run of the house but at night I close the folding door between "her" end and where I sleep because she chooses to sleep in the lower level & hears if I get up to let one of the others in or out & decides it is time to get up & won't let me go back to sleep.  She is at least 17 years old so no changing her ... just have to outsmart her!  I usually check weather to see if storms near so take time to do that before letting the other "kids" out.  No end in sight for rainy spell but know we will be wishing for rain before long.  Right now Kansas is out of the severe drought pattern.  EDIT: Gorgeous lamps in your link.  R is sure generous with the decorating funds. Most of my furniture moved from house to house 4 times & fit like made for each.  Actually, we bought the houses to fit the furniture & now & then have added pieces. I made a deal with myself that "anything new that comes in I have to get rid of same size"... house is full.

Amy, love to hear about your shopping trips, my husband used to laugh that "my eyes glowed when I saw a sale sign".  I used to sew a lot & love to look at fabric, still have one big box of all kinds in the basement.  I loved making slacks & shorts out of double-knit, always fit so comfy.  I have one large piece of it that got used to cover flowers one early spring frost... got snags from the rose bush but doesn't hurt for that purpose.  It got it's start as a very long table cloth when I put 4 leaves in the table for holidays.  I've since bought beautiful Lenox table cloths at "after holiday" sales & have a whole closet full, hanging on padded hangers.  A few of the earlier ones are too much trouble to iron, some day must get rid of them, but they improved fabric & some don't even need a touch up ironing after washing.

Better go let Tiger out, she's been in all night but Tom was out during the rain & just got home.  I need a couple hours sleep so .... wishing y'all a good day!  Shirley

Jane, my doctor ordered me a "Z-pac?", broad antibiotic that will cure most anything.... says to take 2 as a super kick first day & one for 5 more days.  My daughter called last night to see what was ordered & said she has had this before but because her tummy doesn't tolerate lots of meds, she only took 1 first day & cut in half the rest so gave her a longer span to take worked for her.  I took just one but if doesn't mess with my tummy, I will still take the full dose for the next 5 days.  Good luck to you.

Lloyd Hammond

Good morning Jane don't do to much of that interrupted sleep, that has been my rutheniuen lately No fun.the worste thing is when I lay my head down in the pillow it wants to spin like a top for a few min.

Jackie I was referring to the built in mealtime alarm clock,. Have a great day. Hope the sun makes it out today Here.

I am going to shop today some and work on making some Bee Hives. I bought enough clear lumber to build six hives. My money got short so I only bought enough frames to set up one, will get more as I need the hives. I am going to split the swarms off as they get large enough to do so.

Lloyd

JoanFL

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  Now that you're have a one level home, those dogs make good alarm clocks.  I hope the bar and mats work for you.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Last night on the National news, I saw a segment about the tornadoes.

Good morning, Amy.  Enjoy your time with you son and DIL and don't "break the bank" at the fabric store.

Janie--Good morning.  Glad to hear you didn't have much coughing last night and that you got medicine to help chase the bug.

Good morning, Shirley.  Nice that you liked the "Thought of the Day".  So you had to get an antibiotic, too.  Hopefully that will kill the bug you've had.  Years ago when I did so much sewing, I had drawers filled with fabric, too.

Lloyd, the next time you see your doctor, ask him to check your ears.  A few years back, I had that same dizzy feeling when I would put my head on the pillow.  It turned out, I had a middle ear infection.  Please ask the dr to check that out.

I'm off to get ready for work!  My public awaits!  The weather guesser says it's supposed to start raining just about the time I leave work.  Guess I'll have to run between the drops to get to my car dry.  Later friends!

best be careful with those extra meals you will get as fat as I am around the middle. I am on a sea food diet see food and eat it. I am feeling better to day but not up to par yet. I set in recliner OK but when I put my head on pillow in bed it still wants to spin like a top for a min or two. guess I am going to have to get a helmet and slow down on the four wheeler.
May see if I can TRADE IT FOR A GARTER.

Shirley, it breaks my heart, we have a large fridge-freezer, plus a, as good as new washing machine sitting outside in the shed....we have fitted integrated white goods in our new parkhome, I would much prefer free standing....The only free standing item I got R to fetch from shed is our brand new dryer as the one fitted is not up to much, takes far too long to dry, plus it doesn't heat up, whereas my one we both think, tend to overheat, but dries in no time.....We have half and half, new cream modern furniture but brought a fare bit of our old G Plan ( Brand )  brown furniture with us, just got rid of the scratched or damaged furniture.......

Shirley we do get ourselves into a routine with our fur friends, or rather our fur friends have gotten us, too well-trained..... :kitten: :dog3:

Lloyd Hammond, I agree on the meals and sleep pattern ( the dozing off during the daytime ) alarm clock, our bodies sure do get these mixed up.....our body clocks are a strange thing...

Yes a helmet is long overdue....

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Well storms all around us but so far none in our local area.  But the weather guessers keep saying our day will come, they say we have a "cap" right on top of us that wont allow the weather to build.  One weather guy went so far as to shake a bottle of coke and then loosen the cap to demonstrate..... :crazy2:

Lloyd sorry we keep missing each other.  I have been spending time on the couch, my old tummy has been acting up.  That shot I got started an old problem I had in the past.  But it feels better this morning.

Seems we all have our problems, like the nurse said the other morning, old age ain't for sissies (and they ain't golden).  I shouldn't fuss, the good Lord gave us these extra years for some purpose.

Shirley, hope you watch for snakes when you head to the river.  But I am sure they cats watch for them.

Coffee ready, who wants a cup, I'm pouring.

JoanFL

Janie--Would you like an umbrella?:)

Lloyd--Be VERY careful when you go outside to work.

Vanilla-Jackie--It takes some time to get a new home just the way you want it, I think.

Good morning, halkel.  Sorry you aren't feeling up to par.  I'd like some coffee, please.

Hi everyone.  We are expecting another dry day with the temperature getting up to around 87 degrees this afternoon.  I have a quiet day at home planned for today but may make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription for Pat.

Just this morning I watched a very touching video called "Soaring Valor" which deals with WWII Veterans and the work of Gary Sinise and other to honor our WW Veterans.  Here is the link and I found it very worthwhile to view:  Just this morning I watched a very touching video called "Soaring Valor" which deals with WWII Veterans and the work of Gary Sinise and other to honor our WW Veterans.  Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/embed/l3P15s4zWNQ

Sandy, I am with you in feeling that grab bars should be bolted into the walls.  We had them installed in our last house when we had the doorway to the master bath widened.  We wanted a grab bar put into the showers but where it would need to go didn't seem to have any support beams to which to fasten it so we just had them outside the shower.  We do have them in our current master bathroom shower.  We don't have a tub in our master bathroom and glad of it as it would never be used.

Molly, what did you do to your toe and leg?

Linedancer, is a ribbon snake a non-poisonous snake?  Let someone know that you need help and don't risk doing what you know you should not do while your friend is away for four days.

Jackie, very nice looking outdoor furniture.

JeanneP, I don't mind seeing English words spelled in a different way than we do here in America.  I think your postings are always well constructed with correct spelling.  Speaking of spelling I wonder if anyone saw on the news the little six year old boy that made it to the third rounds of the National Spelling Bee.  They interviewed him and asked what his favorite word was and he told them and spelled it.  It was many letters long and a word I had never heard before or probably will ever hear again.

Shirley, hope the medication makes you feel much better quickly.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, woke late this AM and my CNA will be here shortly. No time to chat so will read. My 2¢ I would not trust suction grab bars.

SHIRLEY  for the way you don't trust meds and their effect on you, you sure do not abuse them.

Good Morning from the Interior, and another foggy rainy day it is too. However, we are told it will be sunny but cool until June 3rd and 4th where it will rain again. We are about ten to twenty degrees cooler than average but some prefer this to the normal eighties and higher. Our last two "normal," temperature wise summers, 2004 and 2015. burned 8,689,389 acres and 10,125,149 acres respectively.

Our drought, since 2000, won't end until we get heavy snows in the mountains, we are told by weather folks and old timers. however, that is increasingly unlikely as the years go by. And this area of arboreal forests is classified as a fire ecology normally.

Farrah has established very certain routines and she watches me constantly, perhaps to see I'm keeping up. Mornings are spent hopping from the bed to table a few times if I'm late and after a brief bathroom stop, it's off to herding me to the kitchen for breakfast. But first waiting until I put the coffee on and leave before chowing down.

Days are spent playing with a few toys, vigilantly watching the door for enemies, watching the balcony door for outside birds or the odd flying bug and sleeping. Sometimes she will pace back and forth, back and forth from bedroom to living room until I know she must be bored.

She is very keen on exploring the apartment's nooks and crannies but five rooms and halls don't hold that many nooks and crannies. She is still watchful and skittish and really fears any other people, but she is far and away another cat from the one who came in May second.

As to staying awake, I'm up at 4 to 5am and yawning ferociously at ten. It is a large difference from my working days of one to nine pm or later and getting up at ten am and to bed at midnight or one am. I really prefer this schedule to that! And I really don't miss catching those two buses going each way that added an hour or often two to my daily schedule!

Here's to another peaceful and happy day and a good morning to all who come after!

June Drabek

We are having another overcast morning. I wish it could develop into rain, but that is not in the present forecast.

I woke at six this morning, which I was hoping to do...since i have another early pill to take now. The first one of the day is Levothyroxine a thyroid pill. This must be taken first of all with nothing following for an hour. Then comes the new pill..
hydrochlorithyzide.....or something like that, and it must be taken early in the day, followed by four more pills. Most of which are for high blood pressure. One of the great benefits is the fact that the brain must be active enough to do what is essential in taking what, and when. whew.........

I have a free day. My cleaning lady has been in with clean sheets and towels, and will come back later to clean the bathroom. I tried to tell her to forget it, as it is still sparkling, but she has to follow the rules.

There is a travel movie tonight, on the panama canal, so I may go down to watch that. Enjoy the day my dear ones.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

Sandy and June, thanks for your advice regarding my suction grab bar but I will continue to use it as I have.  It stays on the tub for several months.  I have learned to work with the one bolted grab bar and I won’t say nothing will happen, but I’ll try to see that nothing goes wrong.

Trash day today so I just took that out.  Tom may have some to add to the collection as the trash is not picked up until about 12:30 pm.

Shirley, I did not keep count of the rice thing, but got all right as far as I went.  The site was unhappy that I use an ad blocker to block its sponsors, but I’m not going to change that.

JeanneP, did you not know the power in Europe is 220 volts and in the US 120 volts (for most everything)?  No wonder things blew up.  That’s why they have adapters to use in other countries.  I think even the plugs are different.

Jackie, I would have had a hard time picking a lamp from those shown, but I do like your choice; it is beautiful.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

angelface--I enjoy hearing how your weather differs from ours.  Farrah certainly is changing quickly and fast becoming a "friend".

June--I take a thyroid pill, too, and BP pills but no diuretic.  That travel movie about the Panama Canal sounds interesting.

Mary Ann--We make do with what we have to keep us safe.

Mary Ann, thank you, yes I chose that particular lamp as I thought it would give a nice warm glow, being the warm colour it is, and it does..... :) now for those ceiling lights.....

Carol

Larry:  Thanks for the video.

We can thank our vets for giving us the right to speak our peace, form our own opinions and ask questions - something not available to quite a few places in the world right now.

angelface555

Joan, I think Farrah is realizing that I am never going to move quickly, with all my aches and creaks and just getting mobile. She knows she has lots and lots of time to take any needed defensive maneuvers before I am even out of my chair, bed or couch! She would probably be better off with a companion cat to play with, but we are only allowed one small pet.

Jackie, Rome wasn't built in a day to be trite and you will find that the time you take in searching for what you need, will make your home better. I am still redoing, rearranging and giving away almost weekly and I have been here since 12/13.

JoanFL

Vanilla-Jackie--I agree.  That lamp is very attractive.

Carol--How true!!

angelface--Cats usually are mighty quick.  I'm sure you're not as slow as you think.:)

JeanneP

Jackie.  Now I am back in the UK almost every 2 years. Have been back 18 times now. so always bring things.  Now when it comes to like my hairdriers things like that I have a thing to build up the Electric from the US one to the 220 UK.  Our DVD or CDs still will not work over there or theirs over here.

Now my Aunts Cottage had all the modern inside.  Up in that area (family still live there) Cant burn wood or coal, coke fireplaces. It has all modern heater also. I like the radiator heating systems better than our furnaces here.  I would love to have a Aga.  Cousin has them in his in UK. 5000 pounds a little to stiff for me. They are on the market here now.
I am surprised that the other people could take down the Chandelier. Can't take anything that is attached here when selling. Unless you replace with something else.  Now if you are putting up a ceiling light. Think of the ones with the Ceiling Fans. Some really nice one. I have in each bedroom and dining room has one like a Chandelier. I don't like the A/C on and these a great.  Bet you are enjoying doing the place up. I love doing things like that.
JeanneP

JeanneP

MaryAnn.  Now why don't you just use the "Gorilla Glue" and attach that bath bar.  You will never want to be moving it anyway.  Boy! once you use that stuff nothing moves.  Once with the suctions start moving they will keep doing it. Your don't want to be caught stark naked in the shower.  A friend of mine did and called HELP on her neck thing. Here come 2 men to get to her.  Says she was wishing she was dead.  She had slipped on the Conditioner that was under her feet. Now puts a towel down. We laugh about it but not funny.
JeanneP

JOAN  this CNA is great, got a good back rub/massage and almost feels like it should. Wish I had her here every day just for that. One thing about her and all the others I had while she was taking classes., she gets me laughing and we know that is the best thing we can do. Oh boy, chuckles, that daughter must have been really bad at the piano. Good quote. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  my AC has been running all morning and soon I will pull the shades down against the sun.

JANE  glad you slept better last night. Went to 89° here yesterday, maybe a few degrees cooler today.

HAL  I agree God gave us these extra years but pain and sickness came with those years. Why? So we get a taste of where we will go for not believing in him and Jesus. Well I do believe and do not want to go to the devil. So will put up with the pains while here. I would love a cup of coffee is you have any left.

LARRY  I love those spelling bees. So many words they have I never heard of but those kids sure are great at spelling them. My daughter had one for the kids she has been teaching to read. She used words like there they’re and their. The ones that get spelled wrong. She taught them how they were used and to listen to the sentence before spelling the word.  She was happy with the results. Even the principal watched it and took a picture of here and the kids. Of course my daughter had a prize for all of them.

JACKIE  those lamps are beautiful. I kept looking and it would be hard to pick one above the others.

PATRICIA  glad Farrah is doing better.

CAROL  we can thank all our veterans past and present that we are still free to voice our opinions.
