Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Hi Kelly.  It is now 80° at my house--going to 90°.

Hi everyone.  It is an overcast but warm Tuesday morning with no rain in the forecast.  My doctor's appointment yesterday went very well.  It started off with a breathing test, which I apparently handled very well as the doctor said there was no problems with the test.  She also advised me that the CPAP machine is really helping in that my score went from 13 before I started using it to 2.2 during the last four months averaged out.  I think that is the number of Apnea's per night.  I have a completely clear schedule for today so will just work on little projects here in my office and have a quiet day.

Jackie, want is a G-Plan sofa?  I am not familiar with the term.  It does sound nice and comfortable by your description.

Phyllis, those "pay back" gifts are fun and is just a part of parenthood.

Joan, I did get my money back yesterday and will replace the plant when I find the right thing.

Hal, on the news last night they reported that 100,000 people had been evacuated from those Canadian fires.

Kelly, I just heard them talking about the city that was burned being there for the oil production.  I don't think it impacted Alberta but may be wrong and if someone knows the correct answer please let us know.

Shirley, glad you discovered the cause of your headache.  I only use a very thin pillow and have since I had a stiff and painful neck for months many years ago.  Certainly nice honors your daughter and grandson received and you have a reason to be proud and happy. Very observant little three year old noticing there was no gravy.  What a meal you fixed.  It is good to see you posting again.  We have purchased locally grown strawberries a couple of times this year and they are very, very good.  Too bad the season is so short.

Joy, I often find making the decision to do something that requires a lot of work is harder than actually doing the job.  As you say if we don't get it all done it most often will still be there when we get back to it.  Those playrooms for the little ones at McDonald's and other similar places have to draw in a lot of family business and it is nice the kids have a place to play while others enjoy their meals.

Hal, I agree with you about our exceptional ladies and we are fortunate to know them through these boards and in a few cases in person.

Jackie, just keep in mind that you did the best you could at the time you were raising your daughter.  I expect most of us can look back and say we wish we had done some things differently.  However, we didn't have the benefit of hindsight.  Be kind and gentle with yourself and stay in today.  At least that is what I try to do each day.

Callie, I thought of you when I heard the reports of really bad weather near Oklahoma City.  Glad you came through the experience well.

MaryTX, I sure hope all of your family escaped the tornado but that is certainly frightening for you.

Larry Hanna, G Plan furniture is a well respected brand....The sofa I have coming tomorrow is a creamish silver fabric 3 seater with high backs and headrest....We paid extra to have it treated so it doesn't get stained.....

Glad to hear you got your doctors approval re, your tests...
..........................
I am making the most of my walking at present, while there is no activity going on.....I done a downhill - uphill slope walk with Benji, then an hour or two later I done the same with Toby....the walks got me out of the home for just about 5 minutes each session but I never needed the help of R, nor my walker, just my stick....of course this might not last, but I best make the most while I can....plus it was refreshing to get out in that sunshine.....
........................
Edited, this evening I have my MS Centre's monthly meet-up, have no Idea what will be taking place tonight but I shall be there from 7 - 9.15pm, will will include a cuppa, biscuits and a chat....

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  That's terrific that your breathing has improved so much with the use of the CPAP machine.  One of these days you'll find just the right plant.  Enjoy your clear schedule today.

Vanilla-Jackie--That's terrific that you're able to get out for a couple of short walks with your dogs.

Joan, believe you me they are only very short walks but to me it feels like old times.....Ha ha, I even made Toby sit and sit and wait as he has a habit of jumping up on his lead, it worked, then on the way back uphill to home, I told Toby to "heel" now that really did bring back some memories, memories from when we took him to outdoor training sessions....been a mighty long time since I last told Toby to heel when out walking....

JoanFL

Vanilla-Jackie--And that's a GOOD thing.

Hi Larry
Thanks for the information regarding the town we were talking about.

Good Morning Everyone!

As usual, of late, I am dragging in late. Had one of those nights we all have on occasion.  Woke up about 4 and like to have never got back to sleep.

Larry and Jackie, yes raising kids can and is a task.  I was raised in the old school. Parents were parents and not buddies.  I had a Father who I did lots of hunting and fishing but I was well aware of who was in charge.  I was always afraid my girls would do something that would scar them the rest of their life.  And Lord only knows I made my share of mistakes.  My first child was born when I was just barely 21 and unfortunately raising children is on the job training so number 1 child gets to be the object of that training.

Nothing on tap here. Need to pay a bill or two and that is about it.

Janie, don't do so much that you are tired out so you don't enjoy the wedding.  How dirty can the place be with just you in the house.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Vanilla-Jackie

Halkel, I was 18 and a single mom, my daughter was like a sister I didn't have....but she was wanted as a baby......I did discipline her but she made bad choices with some of her friends, my daughter would always tell me that if I didnt like one of her friends I would show it in my face, the expression said it all....

JoanFL

Good morning, halkel.  Sorry your sleep was interrupted last night.  I was 24 when my first child was born and didn't know a thing about babies or raising children, but somehow we bungled through with the three.

Vanilla-Jackie--We do the best we know how to do at any given time so don't beat yourself up about it.

Sandy

I was 20 when first married
and 22 when I had my first baby (18 months
later I had my second.

I also knew nothing about caring for
a baby...  I was the youngest and only girl
with two much older brothers..

So I just brought my kids up as I felt
I should.   Sometimes conventionally and
sometimes not.

We all seemed to survive it..  But as always,
hind sight is 20/20  so I am sure that my
kids feel differently then I do.

But they remain loving and respectful today,
(as do I)....     And really I think that is the
best that I can hope for.      As I was a Mother
two times,  10 years a part...    I got to do
everything over again..   (and made just as
many good decisions and bad decisions) ...

Today I believe in living in the present  and let
"by gones be by gones" .. and that seems to
work best for all of us.

Good Morning Dear Ones...Being a parent is not inborn, we learn along with the child. The first one is the hardest, and even though I did a lot of baby sitting...starting when I was still in grade school..when I had my own it was a different story. The total responsibility was tough. But I think we all agree, we did our best at the time. I think  big families turned out to be more dependable..the older kids had to learn early on that they were not the most important person on earth. And parents of a large family depended on help from older children.

We are having a cool cloudy morning, with sun expected about noon time. When I got ready for bed last night, I discovered I was still in my shortie night gown..It is like a l knee length T-shirt and very comfortable. So I did not leave the apartment all day. Did a lot of napping, stayed up till 11 p.m. Decided to order groceries late in the evening only to find my grocer would not accept my visa information. So I called for help..waited for 26 minutes of irritating minutes till a nice lady came on line. She asked me the expiration  date on my card. It was April of 2016. I know the bank sent me a new card, and I must have cut it up, instead of the old one. Don't laugh.....I am very embarrassed...so called my Gary, humbly, and that dear soul said not to chastise myself, others have done the same thing. He said call the bank, they are open for calls all night, so I did and the nice lady took down the necessary information and said I should receive my new card by Wed. I don't know how that is possible, it is already Tuesday, but I will hope.

You younger folks here can have a good laugh, but perhaps you of my years will be more cautious than I was. Another lesson learned. I did have an extremely good sleep last night, had a good 7 hours of no wake ups.So today I will live a more normal life..as normal, that is, as my declining humanity allows. I am laughing at myself...it helps.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Sandy--For sure we can't change our past, so we go forward.

June--You're right about large families.  We had a family a few houses from us in NY that had eight children.  It amazed us how they children looked out for one another.  When I had that trouble a bit ago with my cards being hacked,  the bank said they'd send me new cards in 2 days--and sure enough they came--signature required.  It's good when we can laugh at ourselves.

A good Tuesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

I am rushing around this morning as always, but did want to check in and see how everyone is doing.

I have been watching the terrible weather conditions and have certainly been saying prayers for the safety of our SS family and friends.

We are so glad that we are not driving through Nebraska and into Iowa today as planned.  I can't help but feel sad that we are not getting to Chicago to see our family, however we will get there ASAP, but not at the risk of being in harms way.

We had a call from Son Mark last night and he will be returning to the USA in the next couple of weeks.  It is always a shock when your job situations changes, but in this case everything about this is good, so he is just going to roll with the punches and we will do the same.  I am most concerned about his safety as he makes his way all the way from the tip of Baja back to the US. I ask for prayers for his well being if you could please.

SHIRLEY, I enjoyed your nice post, catching us up on things and will be in touch.  I hope those terrible storms stay away from you!

JACKIE, it sure is good to read that you are having less pain and issues that is allowing you to do some walking with your little furry children.  I know that is a big thing for you so I am really happy to read this.  Regarding your daughter.....I agree that you should hold your head up high and realize that you can not feel responsibility for her attitude about anything that is associated to you.  She is the big looser here and I am sorry that she has abanded you.  HUGS!

MARY, I have certainly been praying for your families safety.

I must run, but I do want you all to be safe and joy your day.

Keep cool today, JOAN, and thank you for our goodies.

SANDY, your little Fe, is precious!  Love the pictures of her.

I'm home!  And I'm going to be ready to go on Thursday.

Sandy, I don't think I've ooohed and aaaahed over Ophelia yet.  At least I didn't tell you about it.  I did do it over the photos thought.  She's a doll baby...just beautiful!

Now, I do have something to do before I pick up Kiran and I've managed to feed my face and have a cup of coffee while visiting with my friends.  Have a lovely day!  Avoid the storms and please, take the rain away.  I really think they need some plumbing lessons. It's been raining all day!

Jenny--Glad you decided not to travel to Chicago in such bad weather.  I certainly will  pray for Mark's safety as he travels back to the US.

Janie--I just knew you'd be ready to go on Thursday.  I wish you could some rain down here.

Our family doctor delivered our first two.  The third was born in Canada.  Our good doctor must of had the patience of Job.  It seemed we were calling him for every little thing in some cases in sheer panic.  My Mom also played her part in advising us.

Jackie, like someone said don't beat yourself up.  Life is life.  Sometimes good and sometimes bad.  Like our Minister said in one of his sermons: bad things happen to good people and that is fact.

June Drabek

Jenny, I am so happy to hear that Mark will be returning to the U.S. I just do not trust anything anymore that other countries are doing.  Fame and fortune are small gains when it comes to ones safety and freedom. Prayers are being said for Marks safe return.

Bis, did they hand deliver your cards ? I just looked in my wallet and found my new card…I had not destroyed it, I had moved it to another area. I think I should call the bank and let them know. Right now.

O.K., I spoke to the nicest man. He was so patient and kind. I told him my tale of woe, and he listened, then said, "first of all take a deep breath and relax, and we will take care of it.". I loved him at that moment. He said, "you will receive your new card on Wed., hand delivered by UPS, and you will sign for it. Then you take your two other cards and destroy them, O.K?" I said YES, and thanked him profusely.

Then I went downstairs and had lunch with a good friend and lots of laughs. Now I have to scoot back downstairs, because they like to know at the desk when something like this occurs so they can guide him to find my apartment. There is only one main entrance to this complex and the front desk is the first place one comes to. Whew. Then I will come home to read and nap. Amen
As long as we are here, let's dance.

MaryTX

Thanks everyone for your prayers.  I was finally to get in touch with my niece.  She said everyone is fine.  There is a lot of damage in the area, but things can be replaced but not people.  I can relax now and get on with my day.

The day is finally drawing to a close..the men delivered the next load of wood and now all 4 cords are piled. I am glad that job is done....for now :))

Geese have their babies here, thought it was rather early but I guess not. We had frost this morning ,hope they snuggled down under Mom!

halkel--All three of my children were delivered by obstetricians--a different one for each child.

June--The bank sent the card via Fed Ex and I had to sign for it upon delivery.  It sounds like your new card will be sent in a similar manner.

MaryTX--Thank the good Lord that you got in touch with family, and they are OK.

Amy--That's a hard job--piling wood.  Sure hope the geese's babies are warm under their Mom.

Shirley, my A-fib was not caused by a valve.  I really don’t know what it was caused by.  I have seen my cardiologist once, the other times Physicians Assistants and Nurse Practitioner.  I’m really rather disgusted with him but he was assigned to me and I’ll leave it as is.  I am getting along OK and that is what matters.

MaryTX, I’m early into reading the posts so you may have heard from your OK relatives by now, but I hope they are all right.

We’ve had some overcast skies of late and a meteorologist wrote that much of that is due to the Canada fires.  He also said we should have some beautiful sunsets as a result of the fires

Reading later â€" Mary TX I am happy you are in contact with your family.

Kiran has gone home and I'm taking a minute to myself...but not for long.  Both dogs are in the doorway and Annie is shifting from foot to foot while Mickie has begun her pathetic "I'm starving" mini whines.  So when I stop typing, I'll expect an all out "FEED US" effort.

Guess I better see to that.  It is a bit past time.  Enjoy your evening!

JOAN  nothing new with today's visit. It was just right here today for a light sweater.  My kind of weather. Needless to say I am worn out tonight. I cannot go for fairly long rides anymore, even a half hour feels like hours of sitting for me. Does not do my back much good.
Think I will head to dreamland and hope I sleep better tonight. Seems I never can the night before I have to go out for anything.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Amy, did you have any help with that last cord of wood, or did you stack it all by yourself? If so, you should be doing a whole lot of nothing.

Bis, I talked to the lady at the desk about the card delivery, and she said not to worry. They bring all things from mail or otherwise to her and she signs for it and then calls me to say it is there. She grinned and said, "I do not sign your name….I sign mine, as I am authorized to do that." They are so great here, they would even hang my pictures for me, but that takes my own decision. So Gary will do some for me tomorrow after his Bible teaching.

Janie, the way you have been going lately you are going to need that time off in Texas. I hope you don't wear out before you get there girl. So Slow Down, O.K. ?

I forgot to take my morning meds ! Just thought about it, so did it now. Some of my night time meds are the same as in the morning, so I will just not take those. First time I have ever forgotten like that. I hope I will not be added to the group that have to have their meds delivered to them. This makes me feel "old".

So, I will just put "me" in God's hands and have a good sleep so there will be a happy tomorrow, and I wish the same for ALL of you. I love you much. Health, and Happiness and Hugs for every day to come. June.

MaryAnn, agree, I wish they got real when they show these tv adds, or, video clips....same applies to when I was looking up on buying my rollator...you could always guarantee it was a young , fit and healthy looking lady using one, almost like she was pushing a baby in a pram....and really had no need for a rollator in the first place...
